She would warm up some hot chocolate, turn up her Christmas playlist, and snuggle down in some blankets to wrap all of her Christmas presents. But not this year. This year she was stuck with Jon Snow and his broken ankle.

Welp,,, I did it,,,,

I started working on a project several months ago after years of telling myself I wasn't good enough or talented enough.

I'm sitting here and realizing none of it would have happened if it wasn't for the Jonsa fandom. This ship made me write, and then the fandom helped me keep going.

How many works do you have on Ao3?

On Ao3? 91 But add to that, older fics on ffnet and other independent sites (oh Rolo Realm, my beloved), I think it's 102.

2. What's your total Ao3 word count?

1,020,258

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Game of Thrones/ASOIAF, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Naruto, X-Men, Star Trek, Record of Lodoss War, Sailor Moon, Harry Potter and several unpublished ones

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Almost all Jonsa, lol. - From Instep to Heel - A Violence Done Most Kindly - Wool and Tallow - Shepard Sees the Sky - Hallowed

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Always, but it takes me time. I used to be very secluded, still am sometimes, and it took me effort to reply to comments and build relationships and community. I don't want to lose that. It's also important to me that readers understand how meaningful even a single comment is. So yeah, every comment, I try.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Alright, so there's a lot of contenders for this one. I'm not even gonna try to list them off.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably either Interlocking or What Grows in Winter? I don't write a lot of 'happy' endings, I would say. Mostly I write endings that have either hope or closure, and that can come in a multitude of emotions, but those two fics are probably the most light-hearted of my works so I'm going with that.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Sure, but honestly, not nearly as much as I expected. I've never really gotten someone trying to get into an argument with me. It's really just those one-line trolls that mass comment on a fic out of nowhere with stuff like 'Die parasite' or whatever.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do! I can actually say that now, lol. It's semi-recent for me, I guess. Considering how long I've been writing, at least. At the moment it's just het smut, but who knows what the future will bring!

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Nope. Dislike crossovers, actually.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Several, actually.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, and I don't plan to. Don't think it would work well.

14. What's your all time favorite ship?

I honestly can't answer this. Like... honestly. But the two couples I've spent the most time actively writing for would be Jon/Sansa (Game of Thrones/ASOIAF) and Storm/Wolverine.(X-Men), so there's that.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

It'd be between Rocks and Shoals and Sheparding Men, but I'm more hopeful that I'd return to Rocks and Shoals. Both are Mass Effect fic.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Characterization and emotive language.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Setting and exposition, for sure. Also, paring down a scene, lol.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've thrown in a commonly known phrase or two, but I don't like it being used regularly. There's too much variance on how to show translation in fic, and I find it often breaks the pace of the piece trying to do so, anyway.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Oh geez, thinking back, probably Xena? Though that was unpublished. First published fandom would be X-Men.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Damn, that's hard. But I'm probably going to have to go with Reckoned from One Midnight to the Next for the way it changed my writing style going forward. Perhaps the most formative of my pieces. Close runner up would be A Violence Done Most Kindly though, since it's also pretty formative for me in how I tackle plot now, and I'm really proud of the intricacies in that one.

I know you and Amymel are both publishing your OG stuff now. How is that going for you both? And do you have any tips for someone who might want to do that sort of thing?

Thanks so much for the ask, Anon. I mentioned it to @amymel86 and, while we're keeping our pen names relatively private, we truly appreciate you checking in with us :)

How's it going? It's going great! We're both thrilled to making money off writing smutty romance 🤣. To quote Amy, 'Sex sells, girlies.' But I'll add that the swoony, romantic, buttery goodness is what keeps readers coming back for more.

Tips? You got it! I'm going to put them under the cut for those who are interested but I'll preface this with the following - we are writing romance novels (primarily as eBooks) that we're self-publishing on Amazon. If you want to be the next Hemingway or Virginia Woolf, that's awesome but our route might not be your route...

Tips for self-publishing romance on the Zon and making BANK:

First off, research. Read, read, read a genre that interests you. What's killing it in the rankings? What's not? What are readers looking for?

Drill it down to a specific niche and find the tropes that work best with it. Unlike with fanfic, you will not make a killing as a newbie writer switching widely between genres and niches. Your Sweet and Clean Christian Western Romance might be fantastic but your fans won't be delighted if you follow it up with an Erotic Dark Mafia Romance. There is so much out there! Sports Romance, Regency, Paranormal, Small-Town, Billionaire, Bikers, Mountain Man... go find yourself a new book boyfriend. Choose the heat level you're comfortable with. There are readers for all levels.

But, find something that appeals to you and stick with it for the time being, learn the ins and outs but make sure it's something you can see yourself writing. Don't choose Reverse Harem or Shifter Romance simply because they're popular if you can't stand reading them. You're setting yourself up for failure that way.

Second, do a little light craft book reading. For romance, I highly recommend Romancing the Beat by Gwen Hayes and 7 Figure Fiction by T. Taylor as a starting point.

Join an indie author's discord group for important tips and stuff that you might wind up paying to learn from others. It's free and you can choose what's worth retaining and what's not. The one Amy lured me to last year is AMAZING and I've picked up so much information/resources that I never would've known about stumbling around on my own.

Pick a pen name. Do not write under your actual name. You do not want your grandma reading your book. Or maybe you do but you might not want your boss or ex or neighbor reading it. Make sure it's not a claimed pen name. Google it, check Amazon, etc.

Next one is the hard part... write a book. Dream up your story, write down those 'moments' that come to mind (you won't remember them all otherwise) and outline that sucker. Then, WRITE IT. Which sounds impossible but it's not. Most full-length romance novels fall between 60 to 85k words. There are soooooo many fanfics that are longer than that. Take a deep breath. It's doable.

The must-dos for your first book:

Think it up, write down what tropes you're looking at using, outline (at least a little) and write it. I made that sound so easy, didn't I?

2. Edit, edit, edit. You don't have to pay an editor or copywriter - I have not so far - but, for the love of God, don't release something riddled with typos or full of purple prose. Streamline it, make it page-turning goodness readers have a hard time putting down. Throw it in grammarly and spellcheck the bejesus out of it.

3. Format it using a free site like Reedsy or Kindle Create from Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). All that lovely spacing we enjoy doing on Ao3? That will not fly here. It's going to look like an actual book... because it is!

4. Make a cover or get one made. Look at what sells in your niche and copy it. You want to be an outlier? Wait until you're bringing in 50k a month to set the trends. Otherwise, you'll just be passed up. How much work it is can be niche dependent. Fantasy or Sci-Fi Romance might require a lot of talent to get the right look. Contemporary? Easy by comparison. GIMP or Photo Shop work great but there's a learning curve. Also, I recommend Deposit Photos or similar sites for photos/model shots. Don't steal photos off the internet for something you're selling. That will get you in hot water. Remember your cover is the first thing readers see and it needs to sell what you're offering.

5. Write the blurb. Some writers do this first but I am not one of them. It's HARD. However, I cannot stress how important this is to get someone to give your book a look, second only to the cover. It's 100 to 200 words to tell people why they absolutely have to read it! Don't do a summary of the book either. Feed them tropes, give it a hooky intro, draw them in like flies with honey.

6. Get ARCs (Advanced Reader Copy reviews) through a site like Booksprout or SM like Author Facebook groups. It'll get your book in front of eyes and it's lovely having a bit of feedback and some shiny 4 and 5 star reviews queued and ready when you publish.

7. PUBLISH IT. Flip that pancake as we say in the discord group I'm in. Serve it up, see who's biting and keep that griddle hot to make the next one. It will be even better.

And remember, this book will probably not be THE BOOK. And your first pen name will probably not be the one you retire on. It's okay. Every book will teach you something new about who you are as a writer. You'll grow, you'll get better. I'd rather publish a dozen books that are okay if I'm improving than talk about the ONE I'm going to write someday. It's totally worth giving it a whirl.

A sharp look from the dowager queen swiftly reigns in her wolfish behavior. She clings to the fullness of Sansa’s skirts as Lord Mormont dismounts his steed before them and Lady Starks’ icy gaze settles to him.

“Where is the King?” Her tone is polite, but clipped—ever the commanding queen whether she sits the throne or not.

“He meets with his small council.” The voice behind them is equally commanding despite the stature of the woman who wields it.

She is of a stunning beauty, Sansa decides when first she sees her, and couldn’t possibly be much older than herself. Her hair like spun silver is intricately plaited with soft tendrils that frame a delicate oval face and her unusually striking violet eyes regard Sansa with an equal curiosity.

“Lady Daenerys,” Catelyn stiffens, then turns in a swish of Stark gray skirts to greet her.

It doesn't look like jonsa-creatives will be up and running any time soon, I'm afraid. I think both Elle and I are a bit too busy for it right now.

Whenever I occasionally log in, I will try to reblog any jonsa events to boost visibility. And in that vein, if anyone has a post you'd like jonsa-creatives or any of my other jonsa side-blogs (I've got a few event based ones) to reblog, just send me (@amymel86) a link via DM. I sometimes go a week or so without logging in, so I may not answer straight away. But no, we're not 'up and running' and answering asks/reblogging fandom content (I only published your ask because it was bugging me as to what that fic was called and I wanted to find out too! 😅)

That being said - I'm sure if you've still got fics you're searching for, just popping your own post in the jonsa tag will yield good results since jonsas have been, and always will be a helpful bunch 😁 Unless someone knows of a current fandom blog who regularly answers these kinds of asks?

Also to me non D bashing doesn't mean she's a saint she might still be somewhat of antagonist but that it's not written out of pure hatred. Mainly she's a minor character or there's minor conflict but it doesn't take center stage. But if you want her to be not at all be portray in a negative light I have a few more recs, but I'm running out of time because I have work so I'm just gonna throw these lovelies at you so get your mittens out and catch them gently please!!

I don’t mind Dany as the antagonist as long as it’s well written. I read a good Jonsa fic (can’t remember the name) where Dany falls for Robb & it was sooo good so I want some more of that lol. fandoms: Game of Thrones

two shots?: Jonsa Season 8 Song-fics (the goal is to make this more than a two-shot, and I have some stuff drafted, but I do have the PERFECT song for “The Bells” 8x05 episode! Any guesses as to what it is?)

most popular multi-chapter fic: Chapter 1 Excerpt - I have not technically published this yet, but the one I am working on by default will be the most popular one since it will be the only one lol

actual worst part of writing: getting in the head space for it and not procrastinating while I’m trying to write

how do you choose your titles: it’s cliche, but I do the song thing where you take two lines of lyrics and put the second line in parentheses. And yes, I plan on doing it for my non-song-fics too

do you outline?: yes, yes I do. I don’t follow it strictly though. Like this weekend, I finished writing an 800+ word scene that was not in the outline and purely to contextualize Sansa’s loneliness.

ideas that you probably won’t get to, but wouldn’t it be nice: I think I posted on here about it a longggg time ago, but I had started a Jonsa one-shot based off of the “The Cooler,” the episode from New Girl where Nick and Jess have their first kiss. I started it, but doubt I will ever finish it.

callouts @ me: stop procrastinating and write!

best writing traits: When I first started writing over a decade ago, my strength was descriptive narrative and my weakness was dialogue. Now it’s flipped and, especially with Jonsa writing, I think my best writing trait is my ability for dialogue.

spicy tangential position: I don’t think is particularly spicy amongst Jonsa fans, but I think book!Jon and first-few-GoT-seasons!Jon would have no issue killing D@ny by the end of the show, and he definitely wouldn’t be grieving it afterward. However, he would be feeling guilty and remorseful for enabling a mass murder, not heeding the advice of his siblings/cousins, and for thousands of people being burned alive. I think is part canon/part headcanon, given their family history, the Starks take issue with people being burned alive.
