Chapter summary: Luke moves in.

Fic summary: Luke Skywalker had hoped to have a nice evening out with friends, and hopefully not be too hungover to continue his Alliance duties in the morning. His father had other ideas.

Excerpt:

Luke paced the opulent rooms the Royal Guards had put him in. They were no different from the rooms he’d stayed in last time. Apparently Palpatine still didn’t think him much of a threat, even though he was no longer drugged to the gills. He wanted to be insulted, but he was fatigued just from stubbornly standing for so long.

He wouldn’t be escaping from this place for a while. Not without significant help.

The door clicked and hissed open, interrupting Luke’s thoughts.

Before he could even turn, a genial voice came from the doorway. “Young Skywalker, you are returned to me at last. And without the shackles your father put on you.”

Hey so I’ve mentioned this a lot of times on my main blog, but I wanted to put this out over here since it is Hallow’s Eve. I always give out little tchotchkes on Halloween along with candy. This year, I’ve completely switched over to 100% doohickeys and doodads— think mechanical pencils, shaped erasers, little notebooks, squishes, vampire teeth and spiders rings and all. It started years ago in college when I signed up for a dorm Halloween event where kids from an area that was too dangerous to really trick or treat through got bussed in to trick or treat at our dorm. I bought some candy and dollar store Halloween themed stuff with what i had. And you know what the kids went ape shit over?

Motherfucking. Mechanical. PENCILS!!

These kids could not get enough of them. They literally went “PENCILS??!” I had never seen kids get so hyped up for pencils lmao. They were the first things to go. Candy is fleeting; the little pencils you can bring to school to flex are eternal, until you inevitably lose one of the refill parts and then they aren’t but listen, in that one moment they are infinite. And its nice thinking that maybe some kids who don’t always have access to school supplies not only get them, but get them in fun shapes and designs.

Anyway. I recommend people to give out fun stuff like this not just because kids seem to genuinely enjoy them, but also because there’s this thing called the Teal Pumpkin Project here in America. You can put out a teal pumpkin to show that you are giving away non-candy items and sign your address up so parents of children with allergies know that there are houses their kids can safely and happily trick or treat at! It’s a win-win! Plus, if you accidentally bought too much, it’s not like candy— just pack it away, pencils and fidget spinners will be good next year, too! :)

#its such an easy and fun thing to do #and it helps make Halloween accessible for some kids who might otherwise not be able to participate #i always think about stuff like that #my step-grandparents had a ramp built at their house for them #but one great unintended side effect is that they always got a lot of children in wheelchairs to their house on Halloween #who were so so excited they could go up to the door and ring the bell for once :’) #so like i always try to think of ways to maybe include people who might have trouble otherwise when i can! #and this is such a little but easy to do change #i like to source my stuff from the dollar store targets dollar area and amazon #i bet party supply stores (think party favor bag stuff) would work great too #so. if you have time tomorrow maybe run on over to the dollar store during your lunch hour #grab some random little things. kids will go crazy. maybe you’ll brighten someone’s day

So it turns out that when ebenholz summons his magic goat bombs with his second skill, the game counts that as deploying a new unit. Which means if you get this item during a run with him things become very silly very quickly.

An Unintended Side Effect Update

okay....okay,,,, So I’ve been reading through my notes and adding more stuff this week, right? Right. And it’s been going great. I’ve got a couple of cool character arcs, I’ve got a bangin’ center for the finale, good stuff happening.

Well.

Turns out I didn’t finish rereading what I already had published before I started going ham with the paper notes. And my most bangin’ ideas don’t quite work with the end bits of what’s published.

Also the last few chapters of AUSE suck lmao. I’ve developed a lot as a writer in the last,,,year. Full year. Full year since I was publishing regularly. Fuckin wild.

So! I will not only plan new things, but I also want to scrap at least some of the old things and rewrite them to make more sense and just be better in general. Chapter lengths will remain roughly the same but idk I might make them a bit longer, they are so short and I do not wish to be publishing this fic forever lmao. Also I do not wish to be planning it forever and sitting on it forever, so like. I’m trying to get the ball rolling again asap so I can finish my second-ever fic and use all of these great ideas, even if it’s not perfect. I’ve got a binder of notes for this dang thing, I can’t just not use them XD

Anyways, so that’s what’s happening with AUSE! Big thanks to all my readers since 2020, I love y’all and I actually have some comments in my notes as ideas or things to keep in mind <3

A few medical headcanons.

The only known way to contain the Twins and their mayhem is to put them on a boat, as they both suffer from seasickness. They discovered this on an overseas deployment and are extremely annoyed about it. Robin feels it more intensely than Cherry, try as she might to push through it. [They must roll a con save upon boarding a water-going vessel. The DC varies according to roughness of water and weather conditions.]

All Skullduggans are surprisingly short on battle scars and war wounds. As nobles, they typically have access to a healer, and if they aren't able to reach one in time they're probably going to keep fighting to the death. With that said, the Marquis has two notable marks. Firstly, their nose was clearly broken at some point in the past -- it happened during a common brawl, when military healers weren't on hand, and by the time they realised they probably ought to get it looked at, the common healer's magic could only remove the pain.

The second is a scar on the little finger of their right hand. They like to tell people it was from an enemy's sword, or an assassin's dagger, or various other stories, but once again the truth is rather more mundane. They dropped a glass and, in an attempt to catch it, ended up slicing across the middle of the finger with the edge of a shard, nearly severing it. They no longer have much feeling in that finger. It doesn't bother them, they can still hold a sword, and it's been that way long enough that their brain has learned to compensate, so they no longer notice it in most situations. [They roll certain sleight-of-hand checks with disadvantage.]

My headcanon is that the chance of a scar after healing magic depends on time since the wound was inflicted and the skill of the healer. Injured on one turn, cleric casts Cure Wounds during the same round: no scar. Out of spell slots and have to wait until after a rest/no healer on hand during or after the fight: scar. There's also more chance of a scar if the healer is inexperienced or distracted (for example, in the middle of a hectic, busy battle). Basically, rule of cool.

No time, no body, perhaps not even a true death - but most importantly, someone to do the burying and the mourning; can you call a funeral 'complete' without all of these?

hc that While the Divine Beasts were left dormant until shortly before Link awakened, the SOS signals that the champions sent out continued to broadcast over the course of those 100 years. There's no tech left in Hyrule that's able to receive the signals in their entirety, even Purah and Robbie are only able to pick up snippets on rare occasions. The SOS's are left to only bounce back and forth between the 4 Beasts, an endless echo chamber for the champions of their calls for help.

As he journeys to each Beast, occasionally the SOS's will break through and be picked up by the Sheikah Slate. He can't recall what the pattern of beeping means exactly, but it fills him with dread every time he hears it. It's only once he stops the Beasts and frees the champions that the signals finally stop broadcasting.
