ive been seeing a lot of posts re: side effects of stimulants and while i do appreciate seeing people encouraging each other to try out different meds and/or dosages, it is also important to acknowledge the fact that a lot of these substances DO have considerable side effects that can be stronger or weaker for different individuals.
something may work better for one person, maybe even so well that they don't experience any negative effects at all, but that doesn't make it a universal experience. the mere presence of side effects doesnt necessarily mean that you're taking the wrong thing, or too much of it. sometimes it can be worthwhile to try a new medication but any psychiatrist will confirm that this kind of treatment boils down to a simple cost-benefit analysis. if you feel like the cons outweigh the pros, talk to your doc. but don't set yourself up for a disappointment. in the treatment of adhd, meds are just one of many tools. and this way of talking about them makes it seem as if people simply have to keep looking for the right pill that will solve all of their problems
