POWER

SUPERHUMAN SPEED: The ability to move at a rate much greater than the average person. The mutant’s acceleration and velocity are increased. As such, the body of the mutant has also evolved to handle great speeds without fear of damage to the skin or internal organs such as the lungs. The rate at which one can accelerate or the maximum velocity at which one can reach is less control-based and slightly more genetics-based, but training can increase these factors over time.

AESTHETIC

They are the vibrant sunrise, bright orange and yellow greeting the darkness of the night sky, blanketing it in the promise of something new, something great. They are achievement after achievement, medal after medal, but the shining gold is tarnished by the darkness in which they were achieved. They are lemonade on a hot summer day, the thing people look to, expecting sweetness yet caring not how sour this particular pitcher had been made. They are that feeling of weightlessness looking up to the highest of heights, but the higher the pedestal they stand upon grows, the less stable it becomes. They are life passing them by faster than they can run.

CONNECTIONS

DAMIEN MATTHEWS, Father: Chance isn’t sure they could ask for a different life than the one their father gifted them. They have a life where they’re looked up to, a golden child of the Jem Family of sorts, and they’d always shone with that gold tint to their father. It gave them confidence, it invigorated them towards the belief they grew up under, but gold was also heavy. If this is the fate laid out before them, they’d hope their father would give them more answers than he is right now.

ANASTASIA AHN, Almost: While most placed value their mind and their ability, Anastasia seemed to place value on their heart. So many things Chance confessed to Anastasia as a teen just wanting to feel wanted for who they were and not who everyone expected them to be or made them out to be, but looking back, Chance only sees it as so much breath wasted. The feelings they’d gotten lost in with another only showed them that Anastasia wanted the same value Chance’s name brought like everyone else, but had approached it from a different angle. They can’t see why things would be otherwise.

LENOX SYED, Avoidance: From the moment they laid eyes on Lenox, Chance knew they would move mountains for them, and that is precisely why they’ve spent most of their time trying to avoid Lenox. A whirlwind adventure of passion and chemistry brought them a closeness and intimacy they never believe they’d find in their lifetime. But their devotion to the Jem Family must come before all, for reasons Chance could not confess to Lenox. Deep down, no matter how much they try to distance themself, they know they would risk it all for Lenox; but with everything to lose, they fear they can’t even stand to take such a risk.

MINKA NICHOLS, Mother: Chance never grew up hearing about the person who brought them into this world. They only knew of their father’s stern refusal every time they asked about it, as any curious child without memory of a parent might. Curiosity died down in time, when Chance finally submitted to the booming voice and demands to never ask him such questions again. It still creeps back every once and again, only Chance knows better than to ask their father. Perhaps they were only imagining it, but sometimes it feels like their father doesn’t tell them because of the pain it brought him, not what it might bring them. Little do they know to know their mother, they must know their enemy.
