Secret Ancient Rune Message
Oh my god! Guys!!! I'm fluent in ancient runes now!!!
Basically, I noticed that in the Feldcroft catacomb there are several walls with some runic writings on them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sorry for the weird lighting, I used lumos to try to make the runes more readable. (Also you can notice that the first wall is actually upside-down 😂)
I had also found in the game files, this texture that had the same runes on it:
Tumblr media
The runes on the texture image were much easier to read than the ones on the walls in Feldcroft catacomb so I used that as my Rosetta stone, if you will, in order to crack the code!
I wrote down all the different types of runes that I could see then I counted how frequently they appeared and, assuming that the secret message was written in english, I compared the frequency of the runes to the frequency of letters in the english language. (I also noticed other little characteristic, like letters that appear together often, letters that are repeated, etc.) Anyway! I was able to piece it all together and a message appeared!!
____TOMB ENCAS__A__MARD OF THE MOST CURIOUS KIND. ONE WHO __ USED THEIR LIFE ON THE PURSUIT _ MASTERY OF ONE SPELL : TO SOME THIS BREEDS MADNESS TO OTHERS IT BRINGS A MEASURE OF PECULIAR ACCOMPLISHMENT . TO UNLOCK THE SECRET OF THIS PLACE ONE MUST FEARLESSLY STEP INTO THE DARKNESS WHERE THEY SUCCEED OR DIE_
I used "_" for the places where there are some runes I cannot read. The beginning of the message is hard to see. I'm not sure of the letters "MARD" for instance. There is also a strange symbol after 'used their life on the pursuit', a cross inside a diamond. I'm not sure what it means. It could be a punctuation.
But appart from that, here is how each rune translates as an english letter:
Tumblr media
(Sorry, I had to handwrite this and then scan it. I don't have a fancy tablet to draw this digitally). I have not encountered the letters J, Q, V, X and Z so those are left empty.
Anyway, after that I went back to the runes on the walls of the Feldcroft Catacomb and from the runes that I could read I can tell that it's actually the same message, repeated over and over on the walls.
The secret message is probably about the relic. It says you must master one spell in order to use the relic and it warns anyone that Dark Magic like that can make you mad or lead you to your death.
But beyond that I feel so vindicated that the runes actually mean something! Like, guys, I'm not crazy!! The devs have hidden some secret messages in the game!
(Oh my, this is gonna make my obsession even worse, isn't it? 🤣)

tattoo, sender gives receiver a tattoo. (let’s give Delphi runes that match mama’s!!!)
It’s incredibly dangerous.
Stitching magic into one's skin, something so permanent. If it’s not done with complete accuracy, not a line out of place, the results can be disastrous. Many a witch and wizard have died, accidentally calling upon the wrong magic, sowing in the wrong rune.
Of course, there are always ways to make it worse.
Using blood as ink was made illegal centuries ago. A rare form of dark magic, it’s history tied up within the ancient houses, some more than others.
Of course, Delphini is far too small to understand this. Not that it matters. There’s no one in the world she trusts more than her parents. So when mama sits her down and explains to her that this is necessary, that it’s for her safety, Delphini doesn’t bat an eye.
Mummy shows her the 'ink'. Explains that it belongs to them, mama and father, that once this is over their protection will be with Delphini always. She doesn’t recognize the magic as dark, instead it feels like home.
“It's critical that you stay absolutely still, darling.” Mama reminds her. Delphini nods, clearing her throat before her mother moves to start. She flinches at the first cut, body involuntarily tensing. Before Delphini even registers what's happening her whole body goes slack, all she can do is gasp, her own limbs suddenly refusing to respond to her. She feels her mother's hands along her sides catching her before she were to fall. Gently, Bellatrix is repositioning the little witch she just stunned. “I know it hurts but I can't have you move, okay? I need to use magic to keep you still. It’ll be over soon. You’re a brave girl, aren’t you?” She is.
It is a strange kind of pain, it stings worse than a snake bite but the magic in it somehow soothes at the same time. Bellatrix is extremely precise.
Not only is the entire act illegal but tattooing this kind of magic onto a child - it’s borderline unthinkable.
Only it’s not, nothing is for this family.
Mama seems calm and her calm makes Delphini calm despite her inability to even lift a finger. It was entirely the opposite just days ago when all those strange wizards - those bad men - broke down the doors to Lestrange Estates. They came after mama, they came after Delphini too! She remembers how horrible their hands felt on her. Mummy was certainly not calm then and neither was Delphi.
“Almost done.” Bella reassures her again. Delphini is trying to think of anything else, she hates this very much, eyes welling with tears that she can't even attempt to keep at bay. It’s a handful of deep breaths later and her mother’s steady hands finally turns gentle.
Her wand is still on the back of Delphini’s neck, only this time she whispers a quiet healing spell. The angry red that was wrapping around the runes slowly begins to fade.
Cosmic Protection. Guidance. Intuition. Love.
The runes run red along the little witch’s pale neck.
“You did so well.” Autonomy finally returns to her, Delphini is quick to turn at her mother’s encouragement, her throat too heavy to allow her words. She buries her face into mama's neck instead. A few tears escape, if mummy notices she doesn’t say anything. Comforting hands surround Delphini, slowly coaxing her out of hiding.
She pulls back, tiny fist swiping at her eyes before she looks up at her mother.
“It feels funny.” She doesn’t know how to explain it. There’s magic humming at the base of her skull, it’s not unfamiliar nor is it unsettling, the feeling is just new. "It tickles!" the mother smiles, lifting her daughter carefully, balancing her on one hip as she walks them to the large mirror.
“Look.” Delphini does, glancing back as her mother pushes her braid just over her shoulder so that the little witch can see. The red is pretty, it looks just like daddy’s eyes. Delphini grins at the thought, glancing away briefly to catch her mother’s gaze, the older witch shares the same expression.
“We match!” The pain that consumed her mere moments ago now all but forgotten.
"We do." Bella agrees, fingers tucking a stray curl behind Delphini's ear.
She can feel them - through the runes - their magic surrounding her.
She straightens the moment she notices, eyes wide before she lifts her hand to touch.
“Careful.” Her mother reminds her. The magic hovers slightly, she can feel it without even touching her skin. Delphini reaches down, little fingers pulling back her mothers wide sleeve, her hand hovering over the dark mark there just the same. She looks up at her mother, surprise spreading across her features. It takes everything in Bellatrix not to laugh at Delphini making the connection.
"All to keep you safe, love."

The idiom “let the chips fall where they may” is said to have originated with American wood choppers in the 1800s — the idea being that woodcutters had to focus on larger logs and not worry about the small pieces (“chips”) as they fell. A version of “don’t sweat the small stuff”, if you will.
HOWEVER, an Icelandic poem from 1225 CE uses the same expression referencing a type of rune casting — i.e. throwing marked chips in the air, seeing how they land and using the placement to divine how best to proceed. In this instance the expression “let the chips fall where they may” meant more along the lines of “whatever will be, will be.”
I’d bet the idiom survived long enough to be completely divorced from the original practice of rune casting that humans forgot and unknowingly came up for a new origin story for the idiom — as though the generations in between were unwittingly playing an ancient version of the telephone game.

Signs You Met Someone Of Your Soul Family
Pile 1 - Two Friends
I get a lot of ´death´ energy here, speaking, letting something or someone go.
Either this person will meet you while you are going through a loss of some kind or they will actually help you let go of something that does not serve you any longer.
You might meet them during a journey or for some of you they might be a long-distance friendship/relationship at first.
I sense something spiritual about them, they might be gifted in some kind, maybe they can interact with ghosts, call themselves a witch... e.t.c.
They will strengthen your personality and encourage your good traits, they will be very supportive but also strict with you. For example, they will kick your ass if you don´t take good enough care of yourself because they love you deeply and worry for you.
Pile 2 - Camera
That person has gone through a lot and it shows, they´ve got a long path behind them.
You might see them as a mentor or they might actually be a mentor of some kind to you.
They are sharp, quick-witted, and knowledgeable and they love to share their knowledge with others, especially with you.
I see the possibility that you both went through similar hardships or that they want to protect you from the hardship they went through, which will establish this connection furthermore.
They will be very just and fair and might teach you to be more objective towards certain situations as you might become easily emotional.
Pile 3 - Marriage
Your person does not act their age, either they are acting older than they actually are or act younger. Whatever way it is, they are not what you expect when you look at them.
They know what they want but they also know when to take a step backward, they really are a mixed back and this might confuse you at first, maybe you will even be wary of this person at first.
Yet I can assure you that they only mean the best for you and they will soon show it, maybe off the wrong foot though.
They might be financially very stable and might tend to spoil you, but not to buy your friendship/love but because it´s simply their love language and they have enough to give.
Pile 4 - Drink
You will meet them when you will feel completely lost and abandoned, helpless even but they will bring new hope into your life.
They will be able to lift your spirits like no one has done before and be able to take the burden you carry off your shoulders, even if just for a little while.
They are very cheerful and some may describe them as naive but they really aren´t, they are just full of positivity and still can offer you a lot of stability.
They will be very loyal to you and will literally go through hell and back with you because you mean so very much to them.

Unlocking the Ancient Wisdom: Exploring the Mystical World of Runes
Shaina Tranquilino
August 30, 2023
Tumblr media
If you take the time to observe and look around, we are surrounded by ancient symbols and mystical practices. Runes stand out as one of the most fascinating forms of divination and communication. Originating from ancient Germanic and Norse cultures, these enigmatic characters have captivated scholars, historians, and enthusiasts alike for centuries. In this blog post, we will embark on a journey to uncover the secrets behind runes and explore their significance in contemporary society.
What are Runes?
Runes are a system of ancient alphabets used by various Germanic tribes such as the Vikings during the early Middle Ages. These characters were typically inscribed onto stones, wood, or metal objects and carried deep symbolic meanings. Each rune represents a specific sound, but they also hold broader associations with natural elements, gods/goddesses, and various aspects of life.
The Origins of Runes:
The exact origins of runes remain shrouded in mystery. However, many scholars believe that they evolved from older writing systems like Etruscan or Anglo-Saxon scripts. The earliest known runic inscriptions date back to around 150 AD and can be found across Northern Europe.
The Rune Alphabet:
The runic alphabet is known as "Futhark," derived from its first six letters: Fehu (wealth), Uruz (strength), Thurisaz (thorn), Ansuz (divine breath), Raido (journey), and Kaunan (torch). Over time, different versions emerged within different regions, resulting in variations such as Elder Futhark, Younger Futhark, and Anglo-Saxon Futhorc.
Divination with Runes:
One of the primary purposes of runes was divination – seeking insight into future events or guidance in decision-making processes. To perform a rune reading or casting, practitioners would traditionally draw runes from a bag or scatter them on a cloth, interpreting their meanings based on their positions and interactions.
Each rune carries its own unique symbolism, allowing for nuanced interpretations. Some common interpretations include Fehu representing wealth and abundance, Thurisaz symbolizing protection or defense, and Raido signifying journeys or travel.
Runes in Contemporary Society:
Despite being rooted in ancient cultures, runes have not lost their relevance in modern times. Many individuals find solace in exploring the wisdom embedded within these symbols and seek to incorporate them into their spiritual practices. Runes are often utilized for meditation, personal growth, intention-setting rituals, and even as decorative elements in jewelry or artwork.
In popular culture, runes have made appearances in various forms of media such as books, movies (e.g., "The Lord of the Rings"), and video games (e.g., "The Elder Scrolls" series). These depictions have further fueled curiosity about runes among enthusiasts worldwide.
Runes continue to captivate our collective imagination as powerful symbols of ancient wisdom and divination. Whether you approach them from an academic perspective or seek personal connection through spirituality, exploring the world of runes can be a transformative experience. As we unravel the secrets behind these enigmatic characters, let us honour the knowledge they carry by embracing their lessons with reverence and respect.

Fic Rec: Our Time
@lcdrarry has been on hiatus for a few days and will be back and then reveals coming up on the 15th. I hope during this time you'll get a chance to read and be in awe of Our Time. It's inspiration is the movie Arrival (2016). Now, I haven't seen the movie so I'll say up front that you needn't have seen it to enjoy this fic.
It's written from Draco's POV and when we find him initially he's a Professor in Ancient Runes at Oxford University’s College of Advanced Magical Studies. A Powerful Magical Anomaly is discovered in a cave and Unspeakables come to him as Time is at issue. He's partnered with Chief Cursebreaker Harry and their lifelong adventure begins, ends, and in-between.
What I love about this fic is not only the wonderful constructed and fascinating plot but also how we're placed in Draco's head and soul on this journey that is full of joy and pain because Draco chooses love, even though it might break his heart.
Oh, and one last comment...the writing...flawless
So go enjoy: Our Time on AO3
Remember to give Kudos and Comments

I have been recreating meanings of the runes for my own purposes based on nothing else than original and scholarly sources… and I’d like to propose a case for the ᛉ rune (in addition to ᛒ) to be associated with Frigg/Frig/Frija based on the Anglo-Saxon rune poem.
Tumblr media
Elk-sedge keeps its home most often in the swamps,
it grows in the water, and grimly wounds,
it burns the blood of any man who grasps it.
———
This portion of the poem is something I have yet to see in “modernized” sources. Many say it means Elk based on the Proto-Germanic word of Algiz. But the Anglo-Saxon poem is the oldest that we know of, followed by the Norwegian and Icelandic poems. Or which, they read that this rune actually means “man.”
For me, I rather like the idea of the elk-sedge. Not only does it grow in the marshlands, the fens, it also feels very familiar to the story of the mistletoe.
(To be continued)

Enigma part two
james potter x reader, Sirius Black x reader platonic
Enigma Masterlist
a/n just a short little thing to bring James’s perspective. I promise more backstory moving forward
James is frustrated easily by transfiguration.
especially by transfiguration, especially when someone is better at it than he is. Usually, it’s lily. This was always a sore point in their relationship, even when he was completely infatuated with her.
Not to say he isn’t now.
But the new girl got the nonverbal spellwork faster than anyone in the class, even Evans, and then taught her how to spell.
Mcgonagall seems to notice James’s wandering eyes, and follows it to the two giggling birds in the front row, pushing their converted beetle-buttons around on the desk. The new girl makes hers turn back into a beetle and then it blossoms shining gold butterfly wings.
James watches as it flits up into the skylight.
“Miss (y/l/n), see me after class.” Mcgonagall’s voice is stern, but not unkind. the butterfly turns back into a button and plummets onto the desk.
He doesn’t hear your reply, but he sees your ears turn bright red as you tuck your hair behind them.
He’s out of his seat as soon as mcgonagall’s attention is diverted, hurrying over to your desk.
“How did you do that?”
Evans glares at him. Dammit, he has to get her alone. (no, not to snog - to talk. To apologize). You raise both eyebrows and flick the button back into a beetle absentmindedly.
“It’s nonverbal. At Ilvermorny we learn from sixth grade.”
James has no idea what that means. Aren’t they in sixth year now?
“that’s the same as first year here,” You explain. “Verbal spells are difficult to think of on the go, but if you know the building blocks and basics… well,”
You flick your wand and the scurrying beetle grows wheel and an engine and turns into a model car. it zooms around on your desk, hitting James’s hand repeatedly.
“It takes practice, James.” smiling you gesture at lily’s button. “lily’s just on another level.”
james scowls and walks away, pausing to help peter find the beetle he lost.
—————
the first four classes of his penultimate first day back at Hogwarts are pretty boring, but he knows they will speed up.
What puzzles him is the enigma that is y/n. she’s american, and very advanced in her magic and all around education, so why would she come to hogwarts?
Maybe the rumors of her being part hippogriff are true - god, that’s a disturbing image.
the lunchtime paper drops in his lap and
remus grabs it, immediately flipping to the obituaries, his brow furrowing.
“Anyone we know?” James asks, somewhat crudely.
“Look.”
The page is blank, minus the one obit for Patricia Belcourt, an elderly widow who passed of dragon pox the day prior.
No other deaths. No murders that had been mysteriously caused by random incidents.
No new news on the Voldemort front.
The paper is mundane, especially after the previous issues with pages and pages of obituaries, lists of names for miles.
Something has changed, but the daily prophet doesn’t say what
“That’s very strange.”
Sirius walks in, you following, lily having found a group of girls to talk to in the entrance hall. The two of are chatting idly, and your face breaks into a huge smile when he cracks a joke. Your laugh is contagious, and sirius cackles his barking laugh along with your higher, lighter one.
James drops the paper and waves at you two.
His dark hair, sticking up in his hand that he combs, somewhat agitatedly.
“Hey James,” you say, Sirius sitting on the other side of you. He whispers something in your ear and you cackle loudly. Some inside joke about a pair of socks, he thinks.
He pushes a plate to you.
“Lunch?”
you take the plate and load it up, eyes bright, you say something enthusiastic about your latest class - Ancient runes, a class that he would use to nap in in third year, when he was bright eyed and bushy tailed and willing to let Remus talk him into anything. Sirius, who had grown up reading ancient runic inscriptions for black family ceremonies, uses the class to learn swear words in different dialects, and as an easy pass. He watches you fondly, apparently having made a connection with you in the hour you two passed together learning old symbols in advanced dialects.
You close your eyes and sip your second coffee, the smell of which james can’t stand.
“Thanks,” you sigh, looking around. the few students who have their lunch period now whisper and point at you. One waves, and the other hits her hand down like pointing at you will give plague. You turn away, eyes cast down.
James glares at the girls, and they quickly scurry away.
“That was rude,” he tells you conversationally. “They were Slytherins.”
“What does that have to do with anything?” You ask him. He leans in, pointing at the four banners.
“Slytherins are snakes- and for good reason. No evil wizard has ever been from any other house.”
You tap your chin pensively. “Isn’t that stereotyping? and -“ you cut your eyes down to your plate. “I know plenty of evil witches and wizards who weren’t from Slytherin. Not even Horned Serpent.”
James sees the darkness in your eyes, a story you won’t tell him, so he pushes into conversation about the next classes.
Because, after all, James Potter is not that bad.

AI art is addictive. I was making a whole bunch of magical amulets, and they were all very nice, but none of them seemed like THE amulet from my story, so I kept tweaking the prompts. I finally got it after a lot of tries, then a lot of painstaking outpainting. Behold, the magical amulet that will appear several chapters in the future in one of my fanfics. I can’t tell you what it does because that would be a spoiler.

Does your wand have ancient ruins like your mothers?
No.
Mum and her former cousin Sirius only have (had?) Ancient Runes on their wands because the wands were confiscated when they were sentenced to Azkaban. I believe Great-Grandfather Pollux pulled some strings to ensure that their wands weren't destroyed when they were taken. Unfortunate, that the same cannot be said for many of the other death eaters - it pays to be a Black, darling.
The etching of Ancient Runes was a part of the Ministry's way of marking them into evidence and transcribing them as Ministry property.. Similar to the Runes they carved into my mothers neck, and what good that did them.
I'd like to take this time to point out that any witch or wizard who so much as touched my mother during her sentence is long dead - courtesy of father, of course. I think in the few weeks mum spent recovering He got to almost all of them. I'm sure she was peeved, it was her revenge after all, but I can only imagine how furious he must've been.
