hmmm I discovered women’s barbershop quartets and I have some thoughts that no one wants to hear....

#I don't understand why the parts are still baritone tenor and bass it's so confusing #and also more women on average are sopranos than altos so why are there essentially 3 alto parts and only one soprano #another reason I think they should redo the parts because even really good altos can't be that loud so the sopranos have to be so so quiet #and restrained the whole time #it makes sense in men's barbershop because there are some pretty loud basses and a lot of tenor stuff is falsetto so it's a bit quieter #but put that in women's range and now the alto is strained from trying to sing loudly and the soprano is strained from singing quietly and #everyone's a bit out of key by the end of the song #and I also don't like the matching prom dresses and hairdos and false eyelashes #it looks really awkward compared to the men's in cute vests for some reason #it'd be like the men all wearing black tails or something #surely there's a closer analogue in women's clothing that feels more...barbershopy? #anyway I don't think there's any pleasing me because I don't really want it to be barbershop I want it to be choral pieces a cappella with #one voice per part and that's apparently very different
