random vaguely prideshipping-but-mostly-dsod thoughts part 2
part 1 here
kaiba's kneepads in dsod?!?!? they're so ridiculous i love them so much (he is prepared to see atem again. in all sense of the word.)
eras tour at kaibacorp stadium!!!! kaiba would fucking love mastermind. mokuba is a you're on your own kid girlie. atem is all about karma.
"we should have known [ai atem] was designed by kaiba as soon as we saw the extra-dramatic coat" and his perfectly-coiffed hair
where is the kc space station anyway? the iguanas are endemic to the galapagos?? how would kaiba have gotten a permit to build there in the first place??
ishizu must have been so pissed off when she hears about kaiba digging up atem's tomb again
she's gonna hit him with the big hammer (millennium rod) if he ever comes back from the damn afterlife
kaiba is So Obsessed, i can't believe this is all canon?? we'd call it ooc if it was in fanon tbh
sometimes i think about atem and kaiba breaking into kaibacorp in the orichalchos arc. "i think you're nuts. but this isn't the time or place to argue." "i trusted you, now you have to trust me." and then atem is the only person to ever ride in the blue-eyes jet besides mokuba??
YOU HAVE YOUR BOND WITH HIM AND I HAVE MINE
poor yugi is realizing a few things
kaiba and his dragons are just so much. pandemic dragon??????
being a regular non-dueling citizen in domino must be so confusing. who is this pharaoh they keep talking about?!
yugi tries to walk kaiba through the five stages of grief in the span of one duel
i like to imagine that kaiba's dislike of the dark magician is a remnant of seto and mahad's ancient rivalry
"oooof. he's looked better." seto kaiba, my big bitch <3
how many times has kaiba died to save the world or his dueling partner (or both)
palladium oracle mahad is the coolest version of him tbh
the ending is always so good. not just for the reunion, but for how open-ended it is?? lots of great ways for fanon to expand the story yay we love that

given all the commotion lately around AI and programs that, on their face, "act" and "speak" in human ways, as well as the looming threat of AI replacing artists and writers, i was thinking again about Kaiba's Atem hologram in DSOD... and how despite his detailed recreation, and his ability to control every aspect of the hologram, the hologram is ultimately less satisfying than the real Atem.
on one level, it points to a change in Kaiba's character - a character who finds it extremely difficult to trust anyone, who has been taught it's safer to be alone and keep other people out, abandons a version of Atem he can control from top to bottom, from algorithms to pixels - in other words, a "safe" version of Atem - in search of the real Atem - the Atem who is human like him, an Atem who is Other in relation to Kaiba's Self, and therefore ineffable, mysterious, unknowable, and "unsafe." An AI chatbot/digital avatar is safe; it will never hurt you. Your best friend is a full person with thoughts and feelings of their own; they might or might not hurt you someday, on purpose or on accident. Kaiba choosing the dangerous and the mysterious over the safe and controllable - for a relationship - is a step forward for him, a step that takes him further down the path he started on at the end of battle city, when he chose to put his faith in #friendship to help Yami win against Yami Malik. DSOD kaiba is deliberately and purposefully exposing himself to the possible pain of the Others - by pursuing a meeting with the real Atem, instead of a fake Atem.
in addition, "actually, technology isn't good enough to replace the real" is SUCH an interesting direction for a character who's made his mark on the world via science fiction tech genius inventions like lifelike holograms and neural networks and such. like. what other "tech"-y character! none lol!

thinking abt (rivalship) isekai plots and I just think DSOD ending is a good place to start the isekai plot for Kaiba lol 😂 I want Kaiba to travel thru dimensions with his (supposedly) Travel Guide Atem. They're supposed to get Kaiba back home to the Living Realm but they crashed to another dimension entirely 😂 They're going to meet Yugi (ofc) but in this world, he /Hates/ their guts. But in this world Kaiba is best buddies with JOUNOUCHI. 😂😂
it is also a nice thing for Kaiba & Atem to bond Normally like Kaiba will finally see Atem as just A Boy Like Him and not some mighty immortal pharaoh that he needs to beat.
But what I will be focusing abt is the rivalship part lol. maybe I just want Yugi to get Angry at Kaiba?? I keep making them fight 😂

hii quick question what was your reaction when you saw dosd ?:))
Oh, that's a quick question to make not to answer because you have activated my trap card >:3 Favorite movie question, where I answer all the ways that I can to that question and I choose to not notice if I'm being annoying while explaining my love (*lying*, that's why I made a short version to answer this, to avoid annoying).
Short version:
Amazed to find out its existence, still amazed from start to finish.
Got obsessed with Seto Kaiba's obsession to get his bf back to life and marrying him💕
All this time yu gi oh! was teaching us, about heart, about dedication, and about how gay love can pierce through the veil of death and save the day. (I thought this twice in the movie)
for some unknown reason to me some people think or thought at the moment that at the end Kaiba time traveled, but I'm on team dimension traveled (come on, it's on the name of the movie)
And I've analyzed this movie so many times and I'll keep doing it, I love DSOD so much, fav movie, my shipper heart can't and won't let it go💕
Tumblr media
Long Version:
warning I can and will explain why I loved this movie divided on scenes (mostly in order) on this version and feel free to picture me like the image below
Tumblr media
So I was away of the fandom, then re entered around when the movie came out, I didn't re join for the movie, I had just rejoined and was searching the tags when found out a screenshot or gifset from the hologram duel in the movie, and I was like "this is so beautiful! where is this from?!" then found the movie.
The reaction to the actual movie was me squeeing, loving the style, I found my love for Takahiro Kagami way to draw the characters and love that Kazuki Takahashi himself had worked on the movie directly, also love the palette colors, the plot. everything in that movie is a work of art and I've and will continue analyzing it forever.
replaced the bbt movie as the best ygo movie, and also replaced whichever I had on 1st place in general as my favorite movie (still is)
I love so much the plot and how they took it as continuation for the manga, because it was so unfair for Seto to be negated the last moments of seeing Atem on earth then.
and as I said in my short answer, I got obsessed with Seto's steps of grief.
how the duel with the I.A Atem was in a church scenery, he is so in love with him and wanted to marry him the faster he could.
I know now that it can also be read as in "Is in a church so it can also be the part of him giving a funeral to Atem" but fuck it, this is about my 1st reaction and also I can prove that can also means what I 1st thought and was that Kaiba was practicing for his wedding duel.
we'll go back to this a bit later.
squeed again when Seto talked about how much he worked on the I.A to be a good copy.
loved that the I.A got gold arm bracelets, so lovely, and oh boy (gn), when the scene of Jonouchi is saved by Atem I was like "!!!! ATEM HAS THE GOLD ARM BRACELETS! HE'S BEEN WATCHING SETO AND APPROVES THE CLOTHES!!!" (or maybe he was just using the I.A to save Jonouchi or was the I.A itself? however my first thought and the one I keep thinking is the real answer is the one on Caps)
now let's talk about finding the puzzle pieces scene and Diva using his dimension powers to banish people and how Seto avoided it with tech, I went 🥰 "yeah! boy you got this!" and also yelled because that moment pointed Seto's plan to bring back Atem.
the miracle! oh god, I cried, the battle city tournament memories of their souls crossing, oh boi (gn), their souls crossed again 😭💕 they were so connected.
"Gay love can pierce through the veil of death and save the day." (ghost facers, supernatural 03x13)
let's continue, loved the tournament to get the puzzle complete again, I was alone watching this but I pointed to the duel disks and I was like holy shit is a wedding ring! is a ring for Atem!
allow me to explain myself, he made just 2 duel disks and they're themed with their colors combined (the black of Atem and the blue of Kaiba for his own disk, the white of Kaiba and the pink of Atem for the other), he gives it to Yugi because that's the vessel, but the disks as shown in the getting the puzzle pieces scene has the power to stabilize the person to the dimension that currently is. Seto planed to bring Atem with the puzzle but keep him on earth with the duel disk! the guy is so in love and I love him for it.
in love with self sacrifice Seto for Atem to be back again in the duel vs Diva, I cried there too, and specially because he was right.
again we're reminded that "Gay love can pierce through the veil of death and save the day." (ghost facers, supernatural 03x13)
and the end using the dimension canon and arriving to his bf resting place was *chef kiss* 🥰💕✨ go for him and bring his ass back!
later found transcend game manga and just made me love the movie even more 😭💕
I have seen this movie in 3 languages:
1st on Eng dub, didn't grow with it but they did a good job, I loved it :)
2ndly on Jap with subs, loved it more, Atem's voice in the "will see about that" phrase 🥰💕💕💕💕💕💕💕, Seto's voice in the is not a monster is a God , uff hot.
3rdly in Lat. Spanish, sadly not with all the original voice actors, since the ones that were in charge to dub it didn't ask correctly the voice actors for their help 😭, still did a good job to dub
now I wait for a possibly 30 year anniversary movie and see how they talk about Yugi's or Atem's hair, haha 2 years to see if it happens (bbt is for the 10, dsod for 20... is too delusional to hope for a 30 anniversary movie? imo it's fine)
and that's all, in conclusion:
I love this movie so much and I won't stop loving it. 100/10! 💕💕💕💕💕💕✨✨✨✨✨

@devildukem / @shacchou Sent: A Themed Headcanon Prompt (Accepting!)
hc + 👗 for a clothes-themed headcanon for Mokuba hc + 💯 for an achievement-themed headcanon (for Mokuba!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clothing-Themed Headcanon
Tumblr media
Mokuba's change in clothing in DSOD was done as a way to show everyone just how seriously he takes his position as Kaiba Corp's VP, a sign of maturity if you will. Everyone was shocked the moment he walked into the building with it on, some even wanting to take pictures with him cause he was 'so cute'.
The type of clothing was a bit more restrictive than he had been used to wearing before (AKA the outfits he had in DK and BC), but he got used to it after a while. In addition, he still wears his locket which is just under his shirt (he wanted to really look professional), and is something he brings out into the open after Seto leaves at the end of the film, a way to remind him of hs brother.
Achievement-Themed Headcanon
Tumblr media
Mokuba likes to often visit local arcades to play games and get out of the stuffiness of the Kaiba Corp offices if he's feeling stressed out. While he's there, he always does his best to be at the top of the leaderboards on any game he plays, and he is at the top for pretty much all of them. Whenever he gets the number one spot in a game, he takes a picture of it to show his big brother so he can be proud of his achievement.
The same goes for any high scores on any exams at school. He's the type of kid who wants all his achievements to be pinned on the fridge for all to see at home, and I can see him even bragging it about them to other Kaiba Corp employees (when he's younger, I think he'd mature up about it by DSOD/Post Canon era and just keep to sharing them with his brother).

Stuck in Another Dimension (Part 1)
Word Count: 1,413 words Post Duel Monsters anime. This takes place a few years after the end of the show. Dub continuity plus a version of DSoD. Female reader. Summary: The reader and Kaiba have been accidentally tossed into another dimension. After a series of adventures, they’ve landed in the possession of this dimension’s version of a man Kaiba was hoping to never see again. *** This version of Gozaburo wore a snow white suit. He seemed more at ease than the ones you had met in the past, but even a child could read the predatory gleam in his eyes. “So you two are accidental travelers from another dimension, hmm? It sounds like you might be of some use to me, Seto.”
“I’ll never help you.”
“Do I allow you to talk to me this way back in your home dimension?”
“You don’t allow anything, old man. Where I come from, you’re gone.”
“Gone? I’m surprised you can function without a strong hand to guide you, Seto.”
It had been a very long day, and your frustration overcame Kaiba’s instructions to leave the talking to him, “Kaiba’s stronger than you ever were—he outmaneuvered you back when he was just a teenager! All you managed to do was mess up a good kid and then off yourself when he bested you and took over Kaiba Corp.” You avoided looking over at Kaiba as you took a deep breath, “So quit acting so superior and deal with him as your equal.”
“Seto, are you in the habit of permitting your woman to interrupt important negotiations?”
“No.”
You bristled at the phrase “your woman,” but already regretted your outburst enough to keep quiet and avoid a second one.
“Which is one of the reasons” Kaiba continued coldly, “I requested you leave her with the petty criminals in Satellite until the conclusion of our business.”
“And here I thought you were nobly trying to protect your lover.”
“I’ve never been a fool who wasted my time with romance. She’s my assistant.”
“Then you no longer have any use for her. My Seto will be able to provide you with any assistance you may require.”
“I told you, I won’t—”
“Roland?” Gozaburo interrupted, “Take the young woman out to the courtyard and have her shot.”
“What?!”
“Now now, Seto, giving yourself away when faced with an obvious ploy like this? You do have an emotional investment in the girl.” Gozaburo turned to you, “What are you to him? Be honest.”
“We’re friends.”
“Lovers always say they’re friends.”
You glared. “Yes, well, if you know Kaiba at all then I think you know we’re not. But thanks to you, what should have been a simple friendship took years to acknowledge.”
“Nevertheless, tell me about your relationship without trite words like ‘friends.’”
“I’m…He trusts me.”
“Go on.”
“Uh. We’ve been through a lot. We’ve worked well together. And we’ve…”
“Yes?”
“At this point Kaiba’s realized I may be the only person who will neither fall in love with him nor leave him behind. Frankly, it’s a quality I appreciate in him as well.”
“Anything else?”
You hated this, “He gives me freedom, and I give him…whatever the heck it is that makes people like being friends with me.” You shrugged.
“You’re friends?” Gozaburo asked.
You glared and nodded.
“Now that is interesting; friendship is a relationship of equals—souls standing shoulder-to-shoulder and facing life together. It’s a powerful force.” Kaiba looked surprised to hear Gozaburo talking like this. “That being said, I don’t tolerate anyone acting above their station. And however Seto may view you, you’re not at my level, and I do not allow underlings emotional outbursts during business dealings.”
“But—”
“Don’t worry. Pawns are useful, and I’m not in the habit of destroying what I can use.” Gozaburo looked past you. “Roland, fit them with a pair of collars.”
“Very good sir. And shall I have them sent Underground?”
You could hear a man walking up behind you as Gozaburo said, “ Not yet.” You flinched as the man pulled aside your hair and clamped a metal band around your neck. Raising your manacled hands, you tugged at the item experimentally. Immediately, a shock of pain coursed through you. A moment later, when the pain ended, you were panting on your knees, glad to have stopped screaming, disoriented, afraid.
Kaiba was still on his feet, barely. “Whatever you did, don’t do it again.”
“Right.” You mentally kicked yourself for tugging on the stupid thing, of course it would be designed to prevent removal. And although your memory of the moment was hazy, you were pretty sure your actions had triggered Kaiba’s collar as well.
“Is there anything I can invent you won’t steal and misuse?” asked Kaiba as you shakily stood.
“How perceptive, Seto. These shock collars are an invention of your counterpart.”
“So you’ve got access to a contactless neural interface. What do you need us for again?” You suspected you wouldn’t like the answer.
Gozaburo appeared to see you in a new light, “You could recognize the technology after only one use?”
You kept quiet.
“I asked you a question!”
“Yeah, of course. It’s the primitive version of the neural interface we use in our Adventure System.”
“Which is?”
You wanted to be out of the spotlight, “An escape game system which combines Solid Vision with a neural interface to create an immersive experience for the player. Obviously our technology is much more advanced than yours, but I remember the earlier prototype stages well enough to recognize the sensation.”
“I’ve always assumed Seto’s obsession with games developed as a coping mechanism to deal with his separation from Mokuba. But perhaps you’re simply fated to waste your potential on frivolity.”
“Mokuba?” You could hear the change in Kaiba’s voice.
“Oh, don’t worry, you’ll be spending a great deal of time with your brother’s counterpart.” Gozaburo walked back to his desk and pushed a button on his intercom, “Seto, come to my study.”
You raised your manacled hands.
Gozaburo smiled, “Ask your question.”
“What exactly are you planning to do with us?”
“She’s rather direct, Seto. But then, you’ve never had much subtlety either.” Gozaburo turned back to you, “Seto will be sent underground, where he will work in a labor facility until I send for him.”
“I’m not working for you,” Kaiba interjected.
“Oh, Seto, I think breaking your spirit will be much more fun this time around.” Gozaburo smiled and placed his hand over his wristwatch.
Your eyes widened in realization, and then you were yelling in pain, dropping to one knee, yanking desperately at your collar in a mindless effort to remove it. When it was over, you could see Kaiba in a similar pose. For a moment, it was all you could do to fight off a wave of dizziness, “What about me?”
“My Seto has his birthday in a few days. You will be my gift to him. A reward well earned.”
“Oh?” You weren’t in the right frame of mind to respond intelligently.
“He’s never had a slave of his own before. I wonder how he’ll put you to use?”
“Wait,” Your mind finally cleared, “you’re splitting us up?”
“Indeed, although with these collars your lives will continue to affect one another. I find it rather poetic.”
“I hate you.”
“No doubt you do. But if you want to say your goodbyes, you should reorder your priorities.”
Kaiba sneered, “If you think you can hold either of us for long, you’re delusional.”
“You have spirit, Seto. But how long can it last?”
“Kaiba…” You weren’t sure what to say.
“Same rules as always?” he asked.
“Yeah. Of course. Do what needs to be done. But…if we could limit your rebellion to the bare minimum, that would be good.” You forced a small smile, “The pain settings on these collars are really high.”
“You can take it.”
“Yeah, but I’d prefer not to.”
“Hmh.”
“You're rather different than I expected,” observed Gozaburo.
“Shut up, old man.” Kaiba turned back to you, and his eyes softened a smidge, “I forgot; this is your greatest—”
“Don’t,” you tilted your head towards Gozaburo.
Large men grabbed Kaiba and pulled him to his feet. “If my duplicate gives you any trouble, don’t hesitate to make him suffer.”
“Sure.”
“You’ll pay for this, Gozaburo!” Kaiba shouted his last words before the men dragged him out of the room.
“Now,” Gozaburo loomed over you, “I believe we still have the small matter of your outburst to settle.”
“You’ve made your point abundantly clear, there’s no need to make it again.” You tried not to sound panicked.
“Without consistency, rules are useless.”
You tried to keep from crying out when the pain came, but couldn’t. You could hear Gozaburo chuckling over your anguish, and then your vision blurred, narrowed, and faded to darkness as you passed out. Part 2

My ideal Kaiba/Aigami dynamic is that in the interim between the end of DSoD and the stinger (because I assume converting his space elevator into a dimension-spaceship took some time) Aigami just. keeps showing back up to bother him. All “the only reason you won is because you summoned Obelisk” and “btw your calculations are off you’re not accounting for time dilation properly” and “you should duel me and give me my cube back” and “is being an evil dictator fun?” and “it’s soooo cute how you think you know anything about quantum mechanics ;)” and Kaiba is like “how many times do I have to call security”

Here's a random thought I had rewatching Yu-Gi-Oh DM in the English dub and Japanese Dub. What if Yugi Muto was summoned as a Pretender class servant in FGO? I mean it makes sense and fits SUPER well within the context of his character in the anime/manga and the DSOD movie.
Small spoiler for the Dark Side of Dimension Movie. Won't spoil Yami Yugi's true name.
Yugi most of the time in the anime was helping Yami Yugi behind the scenes to help find Yami Yugi's lost memories and teaching him how to get around rival duelists with strategies. Most people would mistake Yami Yugi for Yugi only because Yami Yugi takes a turn in control in most of the duels which leads us into number 2.
2. Yugi switches out with Yami Yugi because Yugi at the beginning of the show was not confident in himself deep down. Yami Yugi is the opposite, he's confident, something that Yugi has a hard time reaching out of his comfort zone but despite all that he proves time and time again that he jumps great leaps to help his friends. Yugi just needed to believe in himself.
3. In the DSOD movie, Kaiba only saw Yugi as a vessel for Yami Yugi and NOT a true king of games. Keep in mind this movie takes place in the manga's canon, not the anime's canon. HOWEVER- I could see this conflict fit both cannons- because Kaiba in the anime canon comments on Yugi's abilities in the final duel, which leads to Kaiba acknowledging Yugi as the true King of Games so it can apply to the movie story as well but in reverse.
4. Finally, the description of a Pretender class servant is a heroic spirit who misleads and deceives those around them with a false identity to achieve strength and power from the original person. Now, Yugi is a kind person, dang near humble and supportive, and does not deceive anyone in life. He may not fit the description of a pretender class, but when you think about it, the title of king of games would go to him originally and not yami yugi. Although both characters are titled King of Games Yami Yugi was identified as Yugi in the public and duelist circles.
(I would also like to add that Yami Yugi would have the potential to be an Alter Ego servant too.)
Anyways that's the end of my ted talk. My head hurts now from thinking so much. There is more I want to talk about this topic but.. again.. my head hurts. Let me know your thoughts.

@fat-butch-dyke
I'm making this its own post because I need everyone to know how much i love euroshipping, but like
Ryou finding Seto attractive throughout the entirety of up to DSOD and he thinks seto is cool and intelligent and maybe a bit of a jerk but he's still better than everyone gives him credit, but he never says anything and plays it cool because obviously Seto is so COMPLETELY out of his league, he's just some dude who regularly gets possessed by an evil spirit and nowhere NEAR on the same level as yugi and atem who seto literally has a fixation on
so he keeps quiet and minds his own business, but he's always the first to know about kaiba corp news and whatever new thing seto has invented and secretly dreams about getting to work with seto creating models for his games or something, because ryou has absolutely fallen into tabletop figure sculpting and 3D modeling, and no of course he hasn't made several highly detailed BEWD figures that will never see the light of day, of course not, and his crush on seto just keeps getting worse and worse, but it doesn't matter because he's a NOBODY, he's just some hobbyist who can't even keep control of his own body
until one day yugi ends up showing seto some of ryou's models with a lot of typical yugi hype and seto makes a proposal to ryou to show off some of his best 3D models to him for maybe a shot at a job, and ryou is now very clearly in a gay panic and trying to keep it cool in front of seto but he's hot and sweating and stumbling over his words and seto is like "i'm 90% certain this kid wasn't like this when hanging out with yugi all those years ago" but shrugs it off because hey, shit happens, maybe ryou caught some ptsd or something, he wouldn't blame the kid after being repeatedly possessed by darkness incarnate
anyway ryou's dream does come true, in seto's office at the KC headquarters no less, and it's even better than he thought it would be, but i have my own little canon-divergent headcanons for ryou that i would have to explain before getting into anymore of this

I write something !
unquired past prideshipping / violetshipping
Post-canon / post DSOD
please note : english is not my native language, i didn’t write outside of RP since a really long time and never directly in english + i have dyslexia so, it not strange for me to forget how to write stuffs correctly, be indulgent and correct me kindly
Have a good read !
While Seto continue to be a good CEO for Kaibacorp, Jounouchi start his dream to be a pro duelist, that how they start to hang together more frequently, they have the same place to work, the same subject in head, the same event to go.
Their story start out of nowhere, it’s not like they were know to be in good term, always going to find bugs in other hair but time pass like a rocket after their graduation and help to ease the tensions.
Events that speak about duel monster but also money, where you get bored easily wearing your best clothes, start to drink a glass to much and to speak with your old classmate and rival just to realise how much you have in common, how much you love his humor finally and maybe the end of the day what not so bad and it will be the start of something new for both of you.
Jounouchi didn’t believe it will be almost 3 years since he is in couple with Seto and it’s been a hell of a roller coaster, at first because they have to ajust to each others, then because they have obligations and travel a lot, reducing their time together.
He discover multiple faces of his boyfriend during those years but one in particular always worry him when he was so far away, that part of Kaiba that was so obsess about things and paralysis him into the past, it was hard to pass by something, to not think about it.
Kaiba was so obsess about winning to the pharaoh in the past, he didn’t feel like Atem acknowledge him like he wanted, it’s almost make him crazy just to think about it, it make him construct a whole system to go in the after life, he didn’t even remember how he come back in the real world but that was the end, that was when he finally decide to turn the page about him, he understand now that his love was to much for himself and the both of them maybe, since Atem didn’t even look at him this way but something, something when he was alone at night in their house, the one he choose with Jounouchi, he think about it, he think about all the time he had and lost in this story and it make him depressed and lost in his own head.
But Jounouchi always come back with the sun, he know how to keep him outside of his own head, that what he loved the most about him, always bright and ready to bring positivity into his live, after all this time he know he can be loved at the end of the day.
***
He just come back from an other travel, get in America to play in championship for two weeks and have Isono to pick him up at the airport, the flight always wash him off but what he wanted to most was to see Kaiba’s face before to take a good shower and sleeping in his arms.
He turn the light on and can see Kaiba’s back on the couch, it was a bad sign to see, surely the loneliness start to eat him up again.
“hey, what happen ?” he say while closing the front door, manifesting his presence, standing in the entry, he can see Kaiba in the livingroom looking at him over his shoulder, even with the low light he can see shiny spots on his cheeks where the tears was not so long ago.
“Kat i just” closing his eyes one second to no break down again “you know, thinking about him” admitted it in a tiny voice before putting down his head
A softly “oh” emanate of him and he took off this shoes, let hi bag lie on the floor, before crossing the entry way to sit next to Kaiba, putting this arm around his shoulders and he lift his head with a soft hand “that ok Seto, we all miss him”
“yeah but” he don’t look Jounouchi in the eyes, too raw, too ashamed to always go back at the same place in his brain “i loved him so much and i hate the fact he still haunt me when i have you” he put his hand over his face in despair, just wanted to stop, stop all of it, stop to think, then strong arms encercle him and he feel the warm of Jounouchi body, listening to his heart make him feel instantly better
“shh ok, you have just a rough time here, time to think about other stuffs” Jounouchi start to play in his hair and they just stay like this for a moment, it could be a minute, a hour, more important is to be together again, far way from his spiraling mind, Jounouchi stop to take his hand and start to kiss his no-so-wet-anymore cheek “and you know, it's not because you loved him back, that you don't love me as much today” he give him is big sunny smile, the one that can melt any ice and Kaiba manage to give him a little smile back, feeling a lot better.
“Let’s stop that “ Kaiba say after some silence
“stop what ?”
“To travel i mean”
“oh yeah” say Jounouchi in a little sigh, “that a good idea, i m tired anyway and want to be home with you” finally he get his welcome home kiss.

Something I’ve thought about often is the Yugitachi’s lives and relationships after the story and DSOD end.
Of course they’re going to go on and meet new people and form new friendships.  They’ll still remain close, but it’d be out of character for them not to make more friends.  They’re friendshippy like that.
Except...
When Anzu goes to school in New York and the other girls ask her about what high school was like, what is she going to say?  I got involved in a complex love triangle involving my childhood friend and the ghost possessing him?  I went to multiple dueling tournaments and saw a surprising (for regular people) amount of murder attempts?  I traveled to Egypt and helped save the world from a god of darkness?
She can’t say anything about some of the most important things in her life.  No matter how much Anzu wants to make friends, there’s a distance between her and the other girls.  Because what if they don’t believe her?  Even if they did, how could she possibly begin to tell them everything?
Jonouchi becomes a professional duelist.  He attends tournaments around the world, becoming legendary and famous.  Every duelist who comes up to him wants to know more about how he started, about Duelist Kingdom and Battle City.  They ask what it was like.  Jonouchi doesn’t know how to answer.  We went to Duelist Kingdom to save my friend’s grandpa’s soul that had been stolen by Pegasus wielding an ancient Egyptian relic?  I was mind controlled in Battle City to try to kill my best friend, and we both nearly drowned over the God cards?  In the finals, up against Malik, I thought I had died when he attacked me with Ra?
These are not answers you can give to a wide-eyed fan looking up at you.  So Jonouchi tells them he wanted the prize money of Duelist Kingdom to save his sister’s eyesight, and Yugi and his grandpa helped him do it.  It’s not a lie, Jonouchi thinks.  They don’t need to know about everything else.
Honda goes to work at his father’s factory.  He tries to think about other things he could do, but while high school might have given other teens opportunities to explore their options, Honda had been trying to stay alive.  So the factory it is, and it’s as dull as Honda had expected.  He keeps in touch with Yugi and the others; seeing them is the highlight of his day.  But he tries to make friends with the other workers.  It’s what they would do, after all.  They ask him questions about his friends from outside of work, high school, what other job he had wanted.  He doesn’t know how to answer either.  In high school I was following my possessed friend along through a string of high-stakes Duel Monsters tournaments?  I had gone to the KaibaLand opening and ended up fighting off professional assassins and nearly getting crushed to death by giant falling blocks?  I played a role playing game with my friends and ended up getting my soul shoved into a plastic figurine where we had to win the game to be restored to normal?
Honda has always considered himself normal.  He’s never been particularly outstanding, always blending in with the crowd.  For the first time he considers he might be decidedly abnormal, and he gives non-answers to anyone who asks about him.  He didn’t pay attention in school.  He had better things to do.  He and his friends became close in high school and never fell apart like some friendships did upon going to college.  These are all true.  Honda still feels like he’s lying.
Then there’s Yugi.  He designs games.  He goes to college and learns the math and programming skills he needs.  He runs the game shop, especially when Grandpa’s health begins to falter.  Classmates, colleagues, and customers all ask him.  What was it like being the King of Games?  Yugi would tell them if he could, but even after his and Atem’s duel, the title still doesn’t feel like it belongs to him.  Without him, it wouldn’t feel right to call himself the Duel King or the King of Games or anything like that.  He doesn’t play in tournaments now, except when Kaiba calls him, and that’s mostly because Kaiba wouldn’t take no for an answer.  Besides, tournaments are more Jonouchi’s thing now, and he’s proud of him.  Yugi designs games now instead of winning them.
When they ask though, Yugi smiles and tells them those were some of the best times of his life as the King of Games.  It’s true, even if they don’t know why.
Ryou does not have the problem of people asking him too many questions.  He wishes he did.  His previous friends, restored to their bodies from their plastic figurines, avoid him now.  He doesn’t blame them.  He lives alone.  His occult decor drove off his last roommate.  He tries to understand this new ‘after,’ a future he never thought would happen.  He checks for the Millennium Ring every morning.  It never appears.  Ryou doesn’t know if he’s relieved or grieved about it.  He begins going to classes.  Trying to find a job he can hold down.  Living in the strange new future of being without the Ring that had always haunted his footsteps.
No one asks Ryou what Battle City was like.  Perhaps they’d forgotten he was involved alongside people like Seto Kaiba and Yugi Mutou, or perhaps they don’t recognize him without the spirit possessing him.  Ryou doesn’t care.  He wouldn’t want to be asked about ‘before.’  Ryou has his hobbies and his friends.  He invites them to a game of Monster World, and this time they all enjoy it, no curses, no spirits, no magic.  Ryou feels like he’s living again.
In other words, I like thinking about Post-Manga Yugitachi and how weird and off-kilter they feel after returning to normal life.  About how distanced they feel from other people as a result and just them relearning what it’s like to not be put in mortal danger all the time.

I keep thinking about like later post canon stuff like. years after DSoD and everything.
Yugi's always wanted things to calm down and to just live a nice, normal, quiet life and now he has it, and he's designing games for Kaiba Corp but when his grandpa dies he has to decide whether to stay there or quit to focus on running Kame full time. And the more time passes the more the days all start to blur together and the monotony starts to make him wonder if Atem is the only thing about his life before that he misses or. If a part of him misses the excitement and danger too
and like. Joey, sweet Joey. his dream of becoming a professional Duelist is so charming and ambitious and so like him but I saw someone else point out that it's neither a steady or reliable source of income and. yeahhhhhhh. especially when one of the game's biggest sponsors literally hates him. I don't think he'd ever actually end up like his dad but I bet there's times he feels like he is.
and like. assuming Kaiba does come back from the Afterlife and seeing Atem again, how the fuck do you top that ??????? he built a space elevator and space station, he's traveled across dimensions, he's seen the Pharaoh again and maybe even beat him. what else is there for him to even do??? build theme parks? there's no excitement, no adrenaline rush in that. how many dangerous hobbies can one man take up before he ends up getting himself killed??

4, 8, 15, 18, and 32 for the meme?
4. Favorite season/story arc?
Oh, this one is hard time narrow down! I absolutely love season 0, I think it's amazing and unhinged. But if we're talking about the series, it's going to be the battle city season. Manga, I would say it's harder to narrow down. It would be between death t, monster world or Otogi's story arc. I love each of those for different reasons, and its hard to choose between them.
8. Favorite antagonist/villain?
I had a whole thing typed about TKB/Bakura and how great he was until I remembered that technically, Seto Kaiba counts as an antagonist/villain. I have to go with him. His character is so interesting and amazing. From what he was like in the death t arc to the end of the series (or even dsod), it is such an amazing growth and shift. He doesn't become instantly "good." There's so many mixed emotions, him just really working through who he was and forging his own path towards the light. I just really love this character.
15. How did you get into YGO?
The first episode I ever watched was the dubbed episode "Evil Spirit of the Ring" when I was a kid and I was hooked. I stopped keeping up with it until I had a weird dream a few years ago about ygo and went, "huh, I used to love that show." I was curious if anything new was happening with it, found out that DSOD was coming out and got back into it and the Fandom. I absolutely love it and I'm glad I rediscovered it.
18. A random headcanon.
When at carnivals, Yugi always wins the prizes at all the games. He loves giving them to his friends, but if a carnival game has a scapegoat, he 100% goes for that one so he can give it to Jou. At this point, Jou is drowning in scapegoats but just can't tell Yugi to stop because of how excited he gets about it.
32. Favorite voice actor.
Oh! Either Eric Stuart or Wayne Grayson. I think Eric Stuart is hilarious, and I love that he has done extra stuff, but Wayne Grayson gave us Brooklyn Joey Wheeler.

Space Elevator – a romantic concept from the 19th century
Tumblr media
KC space station in DSoD
这篇最初发表在中国同人网站lofter上然而被屏蔽不可发出,因此决定翻译后发表在tumblr上(字数较多,多用机翻)
This article was originally published on the Chinese fan website lofter, but it was blocked and could not be sent, so I decided to translate and publish it on tumblr (Due to the large amount of words, most text is machine-turned)
Out of interest, I searched for information about space elevators and the following main reference sources:
(In fact, it is a pity here that I wanted to go to the official website of Obayashi Group Co., Ltd. to find information originally, but I can't understand Japanese, and the machine translation is not correct enough)
First explain the title: The space elevator was first proposed by Tsiolkovsky (the one who proposed the theory of multi-stage rockets) in 1895. Personally collected about the space elevator theory is mainly the following three (actually two) types, here is the most similar design to DSoD:
LiftPort's space elevator – the laser-powered system
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A new space transport system being developed could make travel to static earth orbit (GEO) more sparse and ordinary and could transform the global economy.
The counterweight is attached to the carbon nanotube composite cable to keep the cable in a tight state, and the automatic lift moves up and down the cable belt.
As for why I think the design of LiftPort is the closest to the design of KC space elevators, there are two main points:
1)Ground base station
The starting point of the space elevator will be set on a mobile platform in the equatorial Pacific Ocean, which will hold the cable straps to Earth
Tumblr media
2) Laser power system
The lifting chamber will be powered by a free electronic laser system located at or near a ground base station. According to the Institute of Scientific Research, the laser will emit 2.4 megawatts of energy to a photovoltaic cell made of gallium arsenide on the lifting chamber, and then the photovoltaic cell will convert the energy into electrical energy for use by conventional niobium magnetic DC motors.
Tumblr media
The "power-on" effect that appears at the moment of launch in the lifting chamber
The core component of LiftPort's design is carbon nanotube composite cable belt, taking into account the hardness and quality required for space elevator cable belts. All other components of the space elevator can be built using existing technology, including automatic lifting chambers, ground base stations, and laser-powered systems. If a long carbon nanotube cable strip can be made, it will be rolled into a spool and sent into orbit. (This is consistent with the design of the Obayashi Group)
When the spacecraft carrying the spool reaches a certain altitude, such as low Earth orbit, it will begin to untie the spool and lower one end of the cable back to Earth. At the same time, the spool will continue to move to higher heights. When the cable tape descends into the Earth's atmosphere, it is captured and then landed and anchored on a moving platform in the ocean. In the DSoD clip, Seto Kaiba is in a passage similar to the structure of the elevator shaft when ascending in the lift cabin. This is different from all three designs collected, and may be animated.
BTW: Search for the word "space elevator" to find a similar concept map of unknown image source (below)
Tumblr media
Earth Port, Obayashi Group Co., Ltd
Earth Port is designed on the same principle as LiftPort, using counterweights and carbon nanotube cables
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Offshore Base Stations & Cables & Lifts
The difference is that the Earth Port project of the Obayashi Group is powered by solar energy. This is different from the KC space station (mainly because the structure of solar panels is not seen)
Elevators carry solar power systems, so that the electricity generated not only supports the elevator itself, but also powers the earth.
Not only that, but the design purpose is also different. (But this is not important)
The space elevator cable designed by Japan's Obayashi is about a quarter of the distance from the Earth to the moon, which is equivalent to 96,000 kilometers, and the elevator can take 30 tourists to the satellite space station at the same time, giving them the opportunity to "stand" in space and enjoy the beauty of the universe.
Earth-Moon Ladder (also proposed by LiftPort)
Tumblr media
This design paves the way for LiftPort's space elevator.
In the lunar version, a base component–a space capsule, basically–would be attached to a rocket and sent toward the Moon. When it got close enough, a cable would eject from the capsule and attach to the surface of the moon, allowing for transport between the surface and the capsule. Since a full connection between the Earth and the Moon is still decades away, it would work as a checkpoint: A rocket could be sent to the orbiting station and people or objects could be lowered to the Moon, similar to how the robot in the test project would travel.
Briefly, LiftPort uses a space capsule hanging cable to connect to the moon for object/human transport. However, the delivery must be delivered to the space station by rocket first. The principle is still similar to that of the space elevator. (However, I didn't find the relevant track requirements)
Last but not least, thanks to the DSoD production team for creating such an excellent work.

13 and 19, please!!!
Thanks @uneorange  for asking!
13. Is there one character that always fights you when you try writing them?
It took me a while to get comfortable writing Yugi.  It was a struggle to portray his basic decency without having him be boring, or even always right.  I think Yugi’s impulses are on track, especially considering his age, and I love the way he really tries to be a kind person. It's easy to believe that his believing in the best of people is a decision, rather than simple naivety.  At the same time though, and as blasphemous as it seems to suggest Yugi is anything less than perfect, I think that he often avoids dealing with uncomfortable emotions, and while he’ll confront people on behalf of his friends, he avoids anything resembling conflict or disagreement with them.  In DSoD, I think he was much sadder than he allowed himself to realize, he was so focused on not inconveniencing his friends with his grief that he never talked about Atem or what he was feeling.  Trying to do justice to all of this while still keeping the essence of Yugi as a kind and positive person is a struggle for me.
19.  What is one story idea you have in your head right now?
Right now, I’m taken up with my current WIP, “Life After Life.”  Kaiba arrives at the end of the Ceremonial Duel just in time to throw a monkey wrench into Atem's dignified exit, accidentally propelling them into a nexus between dimensions.  It’s an alternative worlds story where both Kaiba and Atem get to explore about the nature of choice and examine the ones they’ve made or rejected, and in the process, learn about themselves and each other.

Note
how do you think dsod jou and other jou differ? because of how fast duel monsters canonically evolves, i feel like jou gets some success on the pro level but ends up bowing out when the next generation emerges. he’s a little bit of a lost soul. honda’s got the factory and maybe anzu has to transition to teaching if she’s been dancing for years. where does he go from here? aside from kaiba’s bed
I guess a lot of that depends on when Jounouchi retires from pro-level Duel Monsters. Yeah, DM is constantly evolving, but unlike a lot of sports or even e-sports, you're not dependent on being in your physical prime to remain competitive. There's not necessarily an age where you're aged out of the game, compared to tennis or baseball (though that seems less of a concern these days with advances in sports medicine). So as long as Jounouchi keeps up with the game meta and has the capital to reinvest in himself, he could stay relevant for pretty long on the pro-circuit.
But capital is the keyword there. A lot of people write professional Duel Monsters based on a sponsorship model, which I agree is a logical model. So it is possible that Jounouchi has to wash out/quit at some point if he can't keep up with the evolving meta.
That might be the case for DSOD Jounouchi if we're keeping to the idea that DSOD verse is a little more downtrodden. (And if DSOD Kaiba is a weird tyrannical dick, probably makes it hard to thrive at the sport without some KC-level support which DSOD Jounouchi would not be getting.) Without post-secondary education, it's almost entirely impossible to get an office job in Japan, so that's likely out of the books for him even if he did want it (probably doesn't). Which leaves service/retail positions as the next major possibility. If Jounouchi can pick up a trade though, such as carpentry or plumbing, I think he could be content. He canonically likes building stuff in the manga.
But if Jounouchi retires within good standing of the sport as it were, He can easily parlay his minor celebrity status into doing promotional work. Modeling for street fashion brands, promo spotlights, CMs, and the sort. That would be the case for DM-verse Jounouchi. If he has enough savings, he could try to open a small business.
I think one of the interesting things about Jounouchi is that he has a sort of unlimited potential. You can give him any number of jobs and careers and they could all make sense and feel in-character. Kaiba will almost always be the president of the Kaiba Corporation, but Jounouchi can be almost anything from a part-time convenience store clerk to a celebrity of some sort, given the right plot setup.
