ANTONY cry 'havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war
earlier in my script (which is not Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar), Antony refers to Dolabella as one of his ‘dogs of war’ when talking to Cassius (which IS a reference to Shakespeare’s JC), and it comes back around after Cicero writes to Cassius and informs him of Trebonius’ fate
While these things were taking place at Rome, Cassius and Brutus were collecting troops and money, and Trebonius, governor of the province of Asia, was fortifying his towns for them. [...] Trebonius, who was captured in bed, told his captors to lead the way to Dolabella, saying that he was willing to follow them. One of the centurions answered him facetiously, "Go where you please, but you must leave your head behind here, for we are ordered to bring your head, not yourself." With these words the centurion immediately cut off his head, and early in the morning Dolabella ordered it to be displayed on the praetor's chair where Trebonius was accustomed to transact public business. Since Trebonius had participated in the murder of Caesar by detaining Antony in conversation at the door of the Senate-house while the others killed him, the soldiers and camp-followers fell upon the rest of his body with fury and treated it with every kind of indignity. They rolled his head from one to another in sport along the city pavements like a ball till it was completely crushed. This was the first of the murderers who received the meed of his crime, and thus vengeance overtook him.
App. Civil Wars III. 26
For Dolabella is in Syria, and, as you have foreseen in your prophetic soul and have foretold, Cassius will crush him while they are on their way. For Dolabella has had the gates of Antioch shut in his face and got a good beating in trying to storm it. Not trusting in any other city, he has betaken himself to Laodicea, on the sea-coast of Syria. There I hope he will speedily pay the penalty of his crime: for he has no place of refuge, nor will he much longer be able there to stand out against an army as large as that of Cassius. I even hope that Dolabella has by this time been overpowered and crushed.
Cic. Fam. 12.14
Place then before your eyes, O conscript fathers, that spectacle, miserable indeed, and tearful, but still indispensable to rouse your minds properly: the nocturnal attack upon the most beautiful city in Asia; the irruption of armed men into Trebonius’s house, when that unhappy man saw the swords of the robbers before he heard what was the matter; the entrance of Dolabella, raging,—his ill-omened voice, and infamous countenance,—the chains, the scourges, the rack, the armourer who was both torturer and executioner; all which they say that the unhappy Trebonius endured with great fortitude. A great praise, and in my opinion indeed the greatest of all, for it is the part of a wise man to resolve beforehand that whatever can happen to a brave man is to be endured with patience if it should happen.

i went into stranger things already knowing about byler, and i expected it to be like most of the other ships i had seen in my time in fandoms. i expected everyone to be grasping onto moments where they were just next to each other for two seconds, or for there to be maybe three or four “moments” the fandom talks about with some sprinkles in between. and i was shocked at just the sheer amount of stuff we got with them. i didnt even have to look, it was just there and handed to us so out in the open, and grasping at straws for anything to be considered a “moment” wasnt necessary because they just kept giving us things

like guys come on barry just got out of a 2 year long relationship and he’s doing a movie with the world’s tallest man who won’t stop flirting with him for clout in public but who won’t return his texts or calls in private. both of them have been stars for a few years ish but their careers are taking off leaving them both to deal with fame in different ways. barry has a son. the daily mail article i read said that he and his partner broke up because of fights about late nights out partying. it would be so easy to imagine one such incident with jacob that irrevocably altered their relationship and the trajectory of their lives. the size difference is just unbelievable. it’s literally writing itself right now

obito's version of madara's life and konoha's foundation etc. is so funny like it just makes no fucking scents! lol. like .. i remember when i read this for the first time i was like um. huh?? like madara and his motives, it all seems so nebulous in there. the uchiha and senju, they want to make peace but madara is like ugh, no, i would rather keep fightinggg 😣 but then he's like alright man, whatever, we will make peace but THEN. hashirama wants to become hokage (which .. not true) and like madara, again, is like ummm no, EYE want to become hokage (also not true) lets fight to the death abt it. and also his clansmen, they hate him (that part is true i guess) but he also did tell them before that he'd rather keep fighting! so his brother's sacrifice would be worth it like obito is like "i told them WHERE is ur fighting spirit?? where has all ur hatred and willingness to keep killing each other gone" or smth and like "madara" in the memory is shown to like rant abt it to his clansmen who then do decide that they hate him (which. understandable?? LMFAO) and at some point he's like well they BETRAYED me :( so i left the village to come back later and fucking blow the shit out of it like it just doesnt make any sense? Madara makes no sense in this story. maybe the real madara was just fucking senile as fuck when he told obito all of this but like obviously he also wanted to hide some details. no details abt him and hashirama, no details abt the nature of their bond and his death etc. but i think he might also just not be a very good liar. asfsgdhds. like he just doesnt fill in the blanks very well. doesnt seem so concerned abt how all that makes HIM look either. he's just like yeah, i was obsessed with power and battle so i destroyed everything for myself ^_^ not MY fault tho. write this down. and obito is like alright alright .. ✍🤨 sure

me: i finished the latest trailblaze mission in hsr so i can look at what other people are posting now! oh boy i hope it's discussions and theories about the story. i can't wait to see what everyone thought about firefly (what was going on with you sweetie...) and A Child's Dream - that segment in particular really left a profound impact on me. like who is mikhail? the voice we hear throughout is obviously misha's - did he have a twin? does mikhail have something to do with clockie? and from what we heard and saw, misha or... mikhail. encountered the embodiment of Death that lurks beneath the dreamscape. what's... the full story there...? i can't wait to see other people's perspectives it'll help me piece a more coherent theory together-
other hsr fans: *thirstposting about aventurine and/or dr. ratio, trying to cancel sparkle even though the entire point of her character is that yes she's a horrible person because it's high time we see how DANGEROUS and CRUEL the masked fools can be - no more reducing them to the silly wacky hijinks sampo pulled on jarilo; you should be scared of these guys; the game's story never wanted you to make sparkle your next skrunkly blorbo babygirl lol, heated discussions about whether dr. ratio displayed the same racism towards aventurine that sparkle did and if that makes aventurine/ratio a bad thing to ship (??????????), more thirstposts about aventurine, 500 billion generic yaois of aventurine and ratio that don't even maintain either of their characters*

i think one of the boldest and best moves wolf 359 makes in its character development is that, in terms of the major defining events that led him to where he is, eiffel doesn't have a tragic backstory so much as he is responsible for the tragic backstory of someone else.
(the archetype of the everyman protagonist who copes with past trauma via humor does in many ways describe eiffel, but like with every character in wolf, it's the complexity of their circumstances that make them feel like real people with believable inner worlds. they don't subvert the archetypes they represent, exactly; they're just people, complex and contradictory, who ultimately can't be constrained by the expectations or defined lines of the narratives imposed on them.)
eiffel believes this is an intrinsic part of who he is, that he was "just those mistakes"; he externalizes his desire for redemption and that manifests as lenience towards people who lack his fundamental desire for growth. and in failing to recognize his own ability for growth, he presents himself as a doomed character archetype more than a person; he sidelines himself as an observer within his own story. his guilt and self-hatred allow him to in some way abdicate responsibility, to see his failings as inevitable, and it's only accepting his own complexity and capacity to be more, the human quality he recognizes so fervently in others, that frees him from those self-imposed conceptions.
(once my friend kit said that eiffel “defines the tone and the moral compass of wolf 359 so strongly that if you put him into any other series he would turn it into wolf 359 too” and i think about that a lot.)
doug eiffel is wolf 359, in all it believes, and despite his perception of himself as the weakest link, he is so interwoven with both the crew of the hephaestus and the themes of the show that he is inseparable from either. he doesn't always embody the show's values or its morals - in fact, he frequently fails to live up to them as much as he'd like - but he is the one who advocates for them. "it's not just about surviving; it's about being able to live with ourselves after we get off this tin can."
it's a show about communication; he is an intermediary, a vessel for communication - sometimes literally, and he's also just a guy who is still trying to learn how to communicate better himself. what eiffel represents is a flawed, contradictory, unpredictable, irrepressible humanity, singular, and so desperately in need of connection. the show's love of humanity is truer for that. he has genuinely done wrong, in ways he may not ever be forgiven for. he has very real flaws, some of which persist through the entire show, even as he's consciously trying to do better. and he is very much human, and very much loved.
