#may marigold #rwby #my art #alternatively : mermaid marian #i can't BELIEVE i didn't think of this sooner #there are few things i love drawing more than mermaids #i (loosely) based may's tail on the chinese trumpetfish #(Aulostomus chinensis) #bc they can change color a bit #(though i like to think in a mermaid au may would still be able to fully turn invisible) #the 'loosely' of the inspiration is important because if you look at pictures of these fish. uh. #they're HILARIOUS #look at their face #anyway i was like 'oh i'm gonna do something simple for the tail i think. a fuzzy brush for the lighter part maybe.' #and THEN obviously 'but what if i complicated things by drawing dozens of tiny scales??' #(it was worth it. that was a lot of fun and i like the result)
