episode 209 spoilers below
I'm so late today but here it is
I love EJ, he's finally learning to be happy. I'm so proud.
Ms Jenn = every boomer during zoom calls, like jeez yes we can hear you stop shouting at me.
LOVE THE SUBTLE JOKE ABOUT QUARANTINE "these dark times" "you mean spring break?"
ah yes, remember when we thought covid was just gonna give us a longer spring break? good times
SEBLOS
damn the passive aggressiveness from Carlos and the absolutely over it tone from seb✋
CASWELL COUSINS!!!!! THEY'RE THE BEST!!!!
we needed more if this kind of goofiness for the first part of season 2 that only such an iconic duo can provide.
old old movies-
is it even that old, or is Nini being a gen alpha rn-
i choose to imagine EJ being scared of the movie and hiding in Ashlyn's shoulder while she keeps a straight face and then EJ pretending to be tough afterwards
aww redlyn are soulmates.... yknow, if gingers had souls
(please ignore me)
y'all saw how EJ's face *lit up* when Gina logged on? how dare you tell me he doesn't like her
ofc she's no damsel in distress, she's Gina porter, she's amazing.
so do we think she'd be the type to just glare at suspicious people? or bark at them
do they not know that Rini broke up? or is Ms Jenn just wanting Nini to suffer through her heartbreak to make her a better actress....
speaking of, why is Nini in the call? she's not in the show anymore. Unless she is, even after the rose and the song got cut, which would be so unfair to all those that auditioned properly before she even came back but whatever, she's the main character I get it 🙄
big red is a hero honestly, Nini better thank him for changing the subject like that
I can't-
i won't work you over the break-
this woman would 100% work her kids 24/7 if it was legal and idk how to feel about it.
YES GINA USE THAT CHARM
QUEEN
FRENCH QUEEN
SHE LEARNT FROM THE BEST (antoine obvi)
smh the airport lady, eavesdropping on Gina's call.
The way she was so happy to answer EJ's call, "eej"
I love them your honour.
EJ WITH PAINTED NAILS YES PLEASE
great now we need to see Gina, Ashlyn and EJ having a complete spa day and EJ getting really into it and Gina and Ashlyn take pictures of him when he's laying down in a robe with a mask and cucumbers on his eyes.
finally we get to see Gina's side of portwell
the way she considered it as flirting, this is the sign she asked for in episode 6 come onnnnn
no is Asher/jack really doing tiktok dances in an airport-
Ricky is me. I am burrito.
oh Lynne, sweetie, I'm sorry but the blonde hair is not it
is that even the same lady or-
THE BEAN
THE CHICAGO BEAN
THE BIG OLD METAL BEAN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY 😭
jetlag is my go to excuse for anything... I haven't travelled in 2 years.
"welcome to the Lynne and Mike gossip show. where we talk about our depressed son that we both neglect in certain ways! And now a word from our sponsor, Nord VPN..."
SO MANY CANDLES
WHAT DEMON IS LYNNE TRYING TO SUMMON IN HIS ROOM-
is Nina becoming social media obsessed EJ from season 1? AND SHE LIED ABOUT HAVING SONGS TOO PLEASE WHY ARW THEY RECYCLING THE SAME PLOT-
Gina smiling at the picture of her family on Instagram makes me so happy, idek why.
EJ's nails are so pretty, we needed to see it more (unless he had it on for the rest of the episode and I just.... didn't notice🧍🏽‍♀️)
oh not the tiktok kid✋
yes ma'am end this strange mans whole tiktok career
sir take a hint and leave
GINA NO DONT SAY YOUR LAST NAME HE COULD BE A HUMAN TRAFFICKER
Ricky, walking in style✨
weird kid, ok then Lynne, can't you see he's this close to the edge?
not all your fault baby Ricky, Nini sucks a bit more
RICKY YOU DIDN'T COME DOWN HARD ON THE SONG-
YOU ASKED WHAT IT WAS ABOUT AND SHE SHUT YOU DOWN-
PLEASE DO NOT BLAME YOURSELF
ok but the deleting comment thing was very bad
still don't know if I like Jack honestly
hmmm so Nini's calling herself Nini instead of Nina in her little egg seat, while trying to write a song without inspiration.... Nini, honey, Ricky was your muse, he inspired you to write all those songs, even if it wasn't good for the relationship.
that doesn't mean you gotta get back with him, or that you can't write a song that not about him butttt it'll take some time
the rainbow sticker in her box and her rainbow shirt-
anyways wbk she's not totally straight
Jack are you a criminal?
quick, Gina, check his ankle for a tracker
THE YES AND PRACTICE STRIKES AGAIN
the way Gina wasn't into it in episode 6 but she's used the technique twice now
stole her grandma's Pomeranian-
Jack where the hell did you pull that out from-
the fake crying killed me, that looks like so much fun though
anyone wanna raid a first class lounge with me?
wait so is jack not gonna go in with her?
wouldn't he go in too? help look for the credit card? SO CONFUSED
the first class lounge guy was so into the drama though, watch his face when they start arguing 😭
sorry to break this to you Kourtney, but you haven't even blocked the second act yet soooo...
take that as you will
I love how all of them are totally dissing the dance off
that's the most realistic part of this show tbh
shouldn't Nini have asked how she knew....since the start? why is the fact that her best friend has knowledge of a North high secret now dawning on her...
Howie is sweet honestly, at least he's trying to help. but I stand with Kourtney, don't take him back just because he sang an amazing song, and is giving you a heads up on what's gonna happen...
KOURTNEY IS ME TRYING TO LEAVE AN ONLINE CLASS
I hate school
ooo Nini's writing a song about bad internet connection 🤩🤩🤩
I never lie, except when I do-
son that is the creepiest thing you could say to a stranger that you've been "helping"
2 truths and a lie👀
he's an Ariana fan 100%
called it.
OLDER BROTHER-
WHAT-
free spirit? damn so brother porter was in that horse movie
so has she been kissed or not?????????
I feel like she's moved more than 15 times though so possibly
but then if she's moved so much, and before east high she never opened up to anyone, she's never been kissed then?? damn
same though Gina so let's be besties please
heartbreak president is a great song title idea, give Nini a call rn
but wait
is the no strings attached feeling thing about her telling Ricky she liked him? she thought she was moving away so she thought it'd be no strings attached???
guys I think I figured it out insert the "I've connected two dots" meme
THE DUKE SWEATSHIRT
IS THAT YOUR BOYFRIEND'S
OMG I LOVE I LOVE
NOT THAT I KNOW OF???
ma'am did you just kill me
yes you did
Lynne and Ricky have such a weird relationship
YES IT DID SUCK
TODD SUCKS
LYNNE SUCKS
yeah I get that you wanted Ricky to like Todd BUT THAT WASN'T THE TIME
right so we already know that Ricky was so desperate to keep Nini cuz he didn't want to be like his parents, and now Lynne's talking about this-
Richard needs a long hug
yes Lynne, it is your fault. thank you for finally admitting it.
YES DYE YOUR HAIR
BLOND HIGHLIGHTS RICKY WILL RISE AGAIN
"sometimes the best, last thing you can do for someone you love, is let them go."
gotta admit I teared up at that point
not me thinking big red was calling ms Jenn cupcake for a hot second-
Carlos please omg, you're at the "beach" and they're leaving for the pool?
also, why not just do the call from the hotel room please omg
"don't ask me"
"Carlos"
OMG WHAT HAPPENED
big red wants the tea
O M G
SEB IS JEALOUS
JEALOUS SEBBY IS MY FAVOURITE THING IDC
I'm surprised ms Jenn knew how to give Nini permission to screenshare tbh
So lily's been stalking the East high kids and spending time editing this video while she's supposedly in an immersion trip.... right
EJ and Ashlyn's picture is so chaotic, what even is happening there
"slacking off" bestie its spring break, obviously they're confident enough that they'll get it done in time so why not focus on your own musical.
jealous seb = sassy seb
please what if those guys Carlos is posing with are his cousins or something and that's why he's so confused about Seb
6 YEAR OLD EJ I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM
Nini saying she's obsessed with her ex, that's not weird at all 👍
I can just tell Matt had a blast harassing Julia with those puppets.
Jack please dont be like that, "yet"
chances are you'll never see eachother again 🥰
(honestly sometimes I really miss those friends I made on trips and stuff when we'd spend the day or week together, only to never see them again....those were the good days though)
Ashlyn and Nini should write more songs..... something better than this one at least
Nini: "im good"
cue the Tia Mowry (please I can't spell) crying gif
oh I forgot Ricky was in the show for a hot second
1. where did Gina get to film this without people being around
2. did she just... randomly change her clothes???
ok but the transition between Carlos and EJ
*chefs kiss*
now everyone shut up, EJ's singing
oh i think I'm pregnant
HIS MUSCLES
YES KOURTNEY
I love how big red and Kourtney went from being "the best friends™" to the couple in season 1, to kinda close themselves and having their own plots
sebby makes me so happy
props to biggies editing skills honestly
PORTWELL BEING SIDE TO SIDE I CANT
AND SEBLOS OMG
big red lives for the drama
"wow" so true Ricky
no he is not cute, stop it
"holding" ok that's kinda cute
yeah EJ's a lucky guy😌
jokes aside, it's not that hard to exchange numbers-
keep in touch if you want
ok I really like Jack now
if he comes back in season 3, maybe have him be LGBTQ+ ?
like the only out characters they have rn are Seb and Carlos and they're like the sterotypes, yk?
I'd love to see jack kinda break the mold
Ricky's breaking my heart
that song just hurts
the only thing
now I don't hate Lynne????????
HOW DARE THEY WRITE IN A PROPER REDEMPTION ARC FOR HER
UGH IM SUPPOSED TO HATE HER FOREVER
I mean I don't live her now but she's good
but honestly
"mom can I show you something"
IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL
THE PICTURE AND EVERYTHING OMG
I'm sobbing please help
Gina saying she's just waiting for the right guy and then EJ coming to the airport to pick her up late at night without her asking, offering to bring her back in the morning so she won't have to Uber, bringing her a granola bar (WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT SHE FORGOT TO PACK) and without expecting anything in return???
ms ma'am you've got a keeper right there
her smile at the end was so heartwarming I really can't.
this episode was great.
it felt really short but I liked it, great character development for Ricky, Lynne and Gina.
Cant wait for next episode to see more of EJ being the ideal boyfriend /hj

(gif it’s not mine! let me know if you’re the owner!)
pairing: tom holland x reader / tom holland x brazilian reader (she’s from brazil here, but you can picture her being of any place that you want! Since the story wouldn’t change bc of that)
warnings: swear words, underage drinking (not much tho, nothing like “Skins” lmao), suggestive scenes in some chapters, not smut, but minors be aware. Fluff/angst/drama/ Y/n and Tom being stupid teenagers with feelings.
words: 2.4 k
Summary: Y/n has always been best friends with Harrison and Tom. Since childhood they've always been close, but what happens if after a break up with her first boyfriend, she starts to feel something more about Tom?
A conflict of feelings, the non-acceptance of falling in love and the fear of losing her best friend, all in the head of an 17-year-old teenager. And on top of that, still having to fear of not being accepted for college.
a/n:

It was 2 minutes to 7am and I was late for school. Running to put on my warm sweatshirt and getting ready psychologically to go out in a cold weather, I grabbed my keys and tried to lock the door almost dropping my backpack on the floor. It was almost summer, but my town wasn't disappointed in having very cold mornings and hot afternoons.
"Shit," I murmured as I kicked the door, insisting that didn't want to close it. "Why hasn't my mom called someone to fix this thing yet?" I spoke to myself and finally managed to close it hearing a click. Coming down the stairs practically running, I closed the small gate and strode down the street.
I lived with my parents in a town called Kingston-upon-Thames, in a tiny two-bedroom house, very close to the school. You just need to walk about 4 blocks and voilá, I could already see the entrance gate and the familiar faces of the gringos. I was in the last year of high school, just turned 17 and I was born in Brazil, but grew up in London, when my father had to move because of his work, when I was only 6 years old. Obviously we weren't rich, my father worked with woodwork, and my mother currently worked in a small flower shop in the city center. But when my father received an offer to move to another country, he didn't think twice. Learn another culture, a new language and still earn some good money?An offer that cannot be refused.
The first time we arrived it was very strange, only my father knew intermediate English and my mother and I obviously did not know a single word. But we quickly befriended a family that lived on our street: the Osterfields. Jenna and Carter were the parents of two children: Harrison, the same age as me and little Charlotte (newborn at the time). Harrison and I immediately became inseparable, and he became like a brother to me and our families became one.
Obviously with him, also came nothing more and nothing less than: the Holland family. Nikki and Dom had 4 male children, one my age: Tom, Harry and Sam twins, 3 years younger and Paddy who was born 2 years later. So the family just grew, our parents became best friends, and me, Harrison and Tom became an unbeatable trio. There was no Y/n, without Tom and Harrison and vice versa, we're always together.
We went to the same school since always. As Haz lived only a few houses below mine, we meet and go together and Tom, who lived on the other side of the school, met us at the gate every day.
I went down the street and saw Haz sitting on the wall in front of his house, fiddling with his cell phone with a earphone, as soon as I approached he raised his head and smiled.
- Finally, I thought you aren’t going to class today. - He said getting up and giving me a kiss on the cheek.
- Good morning to you too Haz. - I said laughing and hooking my arm on him, while we went down the street. - You know that now that my mom is working on the other side of town she leaves early and then I have to wake up by myself, which is clearly a problem.
- Sleepyhead, - he said and I playfully tapped his arm while he laughed.
- Well, i'm, what can I say? Sleeping is the best thing in the world. - I said. - Did you do the history homework?
- Wich history homework? - He stopped suddenly looking at me in shock.
- Harrison Osterfield, you are not going to tell me that you forgot the work that I talked about it every day for almost a month. - I said putting my hand on my waist scolding him.
- Well ... I completely forgot. - Haz said scratching the back of his head with the face of a stray dog. -I was busy decorating the lines from the play.
- Wow Harrison, that way you will fail and then you'll  came crying to me.
- Ok mom, sorry! But was it for today? Can I copy it and give it to you later?
- Ok, but just this time, and do me a favor to exchange practically all the words I used or i'll be in trouble. - I said taking out my briefcase, while he held my backpack and I handed him my work.
- I love you... - he said giving me back my backpack and hugging me, kissing my head afterwards.
- And I don't love you at all, bummer. - I giggled and we rounded the corner of the school.
Tom was already leaning against the side of the gate with his backpack between his legs, talking to a guy who was doing theater with him and Harrison. He was laughing at something, wearing a black hoodie, his hair was a little messy under his hood and his nose was slightly red from the cold. For some reason my stomach did some flips as we approached.
Harrison and Tom were very handsome, there was no denying it, they were half nerds, half bad boys (in the sense of forgetting to study for the exam or not doing their homework once in a while), they did theater, they were nice and got along very well with girls since they started puberty. As for me, I was the nerd who was always concerned about grades and getting into the journalism college, I didn't always have excellent grades, but they were enough to pass or impress the professors when I felt inspired. I wasn't popular, but not a completely ghost too, because being best friends with the boys ended up calling attention in some way.
The only boyfriend I had was a guy named Steven, and also my first kiss, to at age 15, but we broke up last year. Steven was cool, but we had different views on things and use to think about completely different futures, so we thought it was best to broke up. And since then I'm alone and very well, thank you.
But since I broke up with Stev, for some reason I've started to have some weird feelings for Tom. Weird in the meaning of being shy around him, with whatever he does, or whatever words he exchanges with me. Which is ridiculous, because he's my childhood friend, and I never felt any of that with Haz, so why with him I feel? I always saw Haz as my brother, but with Tom it's different, and I never understood why.
Anyway, here I was with my heart beating faster and faster as we approached. As soon as we got close, Tom waved goodbye to the guy he was talking. He grabbed his backpack off the floor and patted Haz on the back, kissing my forehead afterwards, which I immediately feel my cheeks burning with embarrassing, but no one realized.
- Hey mates! Finally! I thought you weren't coming anymore.- he said as the three of us went through the gate towards the school.
- The madam here, was the one who ended up sleeping too much, I was also waiting a long time.- Haz said and I rolled my eyes, making Tom smile.
- I understand Y/n, I also love sleeping... By the way, I said I was waiting a long time, but actually I just arrived. - He laughed - Your mother started working on that flower shop, right?
- Yeah! She started today, so I'm still getting used to waking up just with the alarm without my mom pulling me from under the covers by my hair.- I replied and they both laughed.
- Which class do you guys have now? - Tom asked as we went up the stairs to the first floor where the class rooms were.
-Math- Haz said, rolling his eyes. - Actually, I really have to go, because if I show up a second late again Mr. Jones will kill me. - he said giving us a brief wave and running to the opposite side.
- I have philosophy, thank God, one of my favorite subjects.- I said raising my hands to the sky as a joke and Tom laughed.
- Wow y/n, I thought your favorite subject was biology and English.- he said and I stuck out my tongue, but feeling a little warm inside, these subjects were the ones we had together.
- Anyway, see you later? I have physics now unfortunately.
- Yeah, I'll be at our new favorite place. - I giggle, it had been a week since me, Haz and Tom found a perfect place to stay during the break, which was on the back of the school, on a hill next to a tree, where we had a full view of the students down there. It was perfect, because the warm morning sun was shining and we'd be left on the ground gossiping and watching what others were doing.
- See you there shortie. -Tom said kissing the top of my head, giving me a wink and leaving towards his class room.
- Look who's talking. - I said loudly for him to hear and he showed me his middle finger from a distance, laughing at my face.
I turned around smiling and headed towards my class. The first two classes were normal, nothing new, I was still a little sleepy, so I ended up almost sleeping in the second geography class, where I was almost kicked out by Mr Wilson, who let It pass this time. The alarm hit indicating it was break time and I thanked God, practically running to stay out in the sun.
I grabbed my phone from my pocket and my headphones, hitting play on Radiohead's Subterranean Homesick Alien song and walking outside. I saw Steven with his new girlfriend Lily right on the way out, they were talking, hugging each other and looked very happy, he saw me and gave a smile from a distance where I reciprocated. Our break up went very well, without resentment, which made me happy.
I walked up the small hill and saw Haz and Tom already at our meeting place. Tom was lying down looking at the sky while Haz was sitting propped up in the tree.
- Did you guys miss me? - I said sitting next to Haz.
- Yeah, we were even thinking about how we could handle living without you y/n- Haz said and Tom chuckled.
- I know you two love me. - I said shrugging.
- In fact, we were arguing when you're going to have a new boyfriend. - Tom said and I froze.
- And who said I want a new boyfriend? I asked raising my eyebrow.
- We know you y/n, you starting to have your head in the clouds lately, always retweeting couple things and posting romantic songs, I can see that you're falling in love again.- Tom said, still looking at the sky.
- I agree. - Haz said taking the side of my earphone and putting into his ear. - She's even listening to Radiohead! And you always listen to Radiohead when you're in love. - I gave them a sarcastic laugh and pulled the earphone of his ear turning off the music making Haz laugh.
- You guys are idiots, I'm fine alone thank you, I just want to focus on my studies from now on. - I said and they both made a "hmm" in unison, making me roll my eyes.
- Actually, we were discussing where we're going to celebrate my 17th birthday tomorrow.- Tom said changing the subject, turning his head and covering the sun with his hand to look at me.
-Tomorrow is your birthday?- I asked pretending to be surprise and Tom rolled his eyes playfully.
- I know you two always look forward to my birthday, because you love me and want to surprise me.- he said and Haz and I laughed ironically. - But Marcos offered his house, because his parents are traveling, so we could make a cool party there! So I was thinking about calling the theater people and some of our friends like Julian, Tuwaine and etc, maybe getting some drinks too... - Tom said sitting down and cleaning some leaves that were stuck on his hoodie.
- I think it's a good idea, I'm not much of partying or drinking, but with you both I always have fun.- I said and Haz rested his head on my shoulder.
- Good to know we make you happy Y/n. - Haz said and I giggle patting his head.
- So we meet tomorrow? You guys want to stop by my house so we could go together?
- Actually, I have to go to my granny first, so I'll go from there.- Haz said and Tom gave him a thumbs up.
- Y/n you can go? Around 7pm it's ok?
-Of course Tommy. - I said and he smiled at the nickname.
- Okay, I'll wait for you at 7pm and I'll send you the address, mate.- he said to Haz as we got up listening to the bell ringing indicating the break was over.
- Deal!- Haz said.
- Deal. - I also said as we went down back to class.
The last classes were history, the subject I had with Haz and he returned my homework, assuring me that he had changed the words. We spend the whole class sending notes talking about nonsense and making jokes. Haz and I were pretty good at sending notes without the professor seeing.
But I confess I was puzzled by what the boys had said earlier, how did they have the impression that I was in love? I wasn't, was I? Was I showing too much that i had feelings for Tom? I don't know, I just know that the whole story had left me with immense anxiety.
The class was over and I said goodbye to Haz, because he had theater with Tom and I didn't have any extra activities that day. The only days that i had something was on monday, tuesday and thursday, when I have a school reinforcement to improve my notes to enter college. Which was a relief, since I had to run to the mall to look for a gift to give Tom for his birthday. I had been looking for weeks and I didn't find anything interesting to give to my best friend. Best friend isn't it? Nothing more than this...

Broken Hearted (Yoon Jeonghan)
HELLO ONTO ANOTHER REQUEST I hope you all enjoy it! 💛
Requested by @shra-vasti
2 - “You made your choice.”
53 - “Are you hurt?” “No.” “Then why are there bruises all over your face?”
54 - “If you don’t hug me right now, I might fall apart.”
Tumblr media
You sat on your bed, hugging your pillow into your chest as tightly as you could. You just wanted your heartbreak to go away, but you sadly knew it wouldn’t go away. At least not today.
You had recently gotten into a relationship with quite a popular guy at your school. You couldn’t quite believe it when he asked you to go to dinner, thinking it had to be a joke. But he managed to swoon you quickly and sweep you off your feet, much to the displeasure of your friend Jeonghan. You two had a massive argument about it, both saying things you regretted now. You had been swooned enough to stick to your new guy, Jeonghan officially saying the final word and leaving you alone.
“Fine. You made your choice. Don’t come crying to me when he breaks your heart.”
At the time, you were just so mad at him. What did he know? How on earth could he be such an ass about your first real relationship and do this to you? Your new boyfriend seemed unfazed by this tragic loss in your life, simply saying that now you had more time to be with him. The puppy love in your heart believed him.
Then you got to this morning, when you wanted to go surprise him after his basketball practice. You had gotten all dressed up, gotten two coffees and treats, and headed to your school to watch the last little bit of practice. You saw the end of practice, getting up to meet your guy, only to watch as he instead walked to another girl in the stands, grinning at her as she cheered for him. You felt your heart drop as you saw them embrace, tossing your treats in the trash as you fled the gym.
You waited outside the gym for him to come out, only to fully feel your heartbreak as he acted like he didn’t even know you, even calling you some crazy underclassman. That was enough to get you to run away, embarrassed this happened in front of so many people in your class.
Once you got home, you saw you had a text from him saying no hard feelings, but your relationship was really just to make his ex jealous. Apparently, it had worked better than expected, therefore this little fling you had was over. You angrily deleted his number from your phone, beginning to cry.
That was a couple hours ago, and you were starting to feel like your tears had run out. Your dad brought you a water bottle and some dinner a while ago, not entirely sure what happened but figured you’d talk it out later. You weren’t sure how to explain that not only had you lost your best friend, but now you lost him over someone who wasn’t actually into you.
You got up to wash your face, hoping to get some of the stains off. As you walked back into your room, your phone was going off on your floor. Once you picked it up, you raised an eyebrow seeing that Jeonghan was calling you. You let out a sigh, hitting the reject call button. You knew he was just calling to tell you he told you so, and you really weren’t ready to hear that. He was right, but that didn’t mean you wanted to hear it right now. Maybe tomorrow. You curled up on your bed, opening up your computer. It was pretty late, so maybe you could find some drama to help you fall asleep. Watching another romance might make you forget your almost romance.
Except your phone started to go off again, Jeonghan calling you again. You once again rejected him, hoping this time he would get the message. You picked a drama, started to watch as you settled back in your bed, letting out a groan as your phone went off again. This time, you answered the call.
“Look, I know what you’re going to say so just-”
“Can you please let me in?” Jeonghan said on the other end, causing you to furrow your eyebrows. You pulled the phone away from your face, confirming it was actually Jeonghan calling you before putting it back to your ear.
“You know you called Y/N, right?” You asked, confused. He must have meant to call one of his parents.
“Yes, please come open the door.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Your front door, the thing that keeps people from wandering into your hourse.” He let out a sigh. “Look, I’m outside, I need you to come let me in.” Your eyebrows shot up, causing you to pause your show and sitting up, looking out the window. You didn’t see anyone, but you also couldn’t clearly see your front door.
“Why are you here?” You asked, sitting back.
“I uh… I’ll explain once you let me in, okay?!”
“Why didn’t you just ring the doorbell?” You asked, getting up and pulling a sweatshirt on. You slowly opened your door, walking down the hallway.
“I didn’t want your parents to see me.” He admitted, you stopping. Your parents loved Jeonghan. Why wouldn’t he want them to see him? I mean, it’s not the first time he showed up late at night, they practically had a bed set ready for him.
“...Why?”
“I swear I will explain once you let me in!” He said, you staying frozen for a couple seconds before making your way to the door. You quietly opened it, half expecting this to be some prank.
But alas, Jeonghan was standing on your doorstep, hood pulled over his head as he hung up his phone.
“Thanks.” He said quietly, walking into your house.
“Look, Jeonghan, if you’re here to give me a lecture I’m really not…” You started to quietly say, falling silent as Jeonghan pulled his hood down. A bright, red bruise sat on his cheek, causing your eyes to widen. “What…”
“Do um… Do you have an ice pack, by any chance?” He asked, smiling a little bit only to wince.
“Yeah just… Just go up to the bathroom, I’ll be there in a second.” You said, still trying to process that Jeonghan was here in the middle of the night with a giant bruise. He nodded, quietly turning and walking down your hall, leaving you frozen. You quickly shook your head, going to grab the ice pack and heading to the bathroom.
Jeonghan was leaning on your counter, looking down at his feet.
“Why did you come here? I thought we weren’t friends anymore.” You muttered, Jeonghan shrugging.
“You’re always gonna be my friend, Y/N. You know that.” He said, looking back at the mirror. “My mom would have freaked if I went home like this.”
“And my mom won’t?” You said, Jeonghan shrugging.
“I weighed my options and I’m a little less scared of your mom. Not much, but a little.” That managed to make you chuckle, Jeonghan looking at you.
“What happened.” You asked, handing him the ice pack. He nodded at you, taking it and holding it to his face.
“Nothing.” Jeonghan muttered, causing you to sigh and lean next to him on the counter.
“Are you hurt?”
“No.”
“Then why are there bruises all over your face?” You asked, looking at him more now. He had bruises all over, though the one under the ice pack was by far the worst.
“...I tripped.” When you didn’t respond, Jeonghan looked over at you, seeing you stare at him with an unamused look on your face. “Fine, I might have gotten in a fight.”
“A FIGHT?” Jeonghan’s eyes widened, a hand going over your mouth. You both listened for a second, not hearing your parents waking up. “Who did you get into a fight with?” You asked, moving Jeonghan’s hand.
“That’s not important.” He said, looking away from you.
“Jeonghan-”
“Y/N, it’s not important who it was, it’s over now.” He sighed, adjusting the ice pack. You looked at him for a second longer before looking away yourself, letting out a sigh.
“You were right.” You admitted, Jeonghan glancing at you.
“About what?”
“My uh… He was just using me.” You sighed, Jeonghan nodding.
“I heard.” He muttered, both of you looking at each other. “Hoshi and Mingyu came by the store after practice. Told me everything.” He said, you nodding. You forgot Mingyu was on the team and that Hoshi would have been there today for support. You completely blocked out that you saw them this morning before practice.
“Oh.” You said in a small voice, Jeonghan lowering his ice pack and letting out a sigh.
“Y/N, you don’t deserve this. He wasn’t even close to deserving you. You shouldn’t even be giving the guy a second thought. He’s an ass and-”
“And he’s the first guy that showed actual interest in me.” You said, wiping your eye. “And that was all fake.”
“Look, eventually some guy, once he proves himself worthy of course, is going to fall so ridiculously in love with you that you’re not even going to begin to remember what this feels like. Someone who is going to treat you so well, that you will only know what it feels like to be happy, okay?”
“Sure.” You said, Jeonghan sighing.
“Okay, come here.” You looked at him again. “Give me a hug.”
“I don’t want a hug Jeonghan.”
“Who said it’s for you?” He said, looking at you offended. “I’m the physically injured one here. Who knows, if you don’t hug me right now, I might fall apart.” He pouted at you, making you chuckle a bit. “Come on, don’t let me fall apart.” He reached up and put a hand on your shoulder, pulling you into his side.
“You’re a baby, you know that.” You said as he winced when you put an arm around his back. “Does that hurt?”
“No, no. It’s fine.” He said, letting out a breath. “Y/N, you know that I’m always here for you, right? Even when we’re fighting, you can come to me. With anything.”
“I know. Thank you.” You said, looking up as he put the ice pack back on his face. “So who did you fight?”
“You don’t need to know.”
“Was it someone we go to school with?”
“You don’t need to know.”
“You know if it was someone at school, I’ll know on Monday.” You said, Jeonghan thinking for a minute.
“Then you’ll know on Monday.” He grinned, squeezing your arm a bit.
“Fine.” You said, blinking a bit. “Do you want to stay tonight? I can get your stuff.”
“Yeah, I already told my mom I was staying at Cheol’s… So…” He chuckled.
“My parents are going to flip out when they see you tomorrow morning.”
“So we better get some sleep so we’re ready for it.” He grinned, resting his cheek on your head. “You’re gonna be okay, Y/N. I promise.” You let out a sigh, nodding your head.
“I know. I have you, don’t I?” You said, smiling at each other for a minute before nodding, leaving the bathroom.
“Yeah, you do.”

Between the Two of Us ~ Chapter 2
Masterlist || Previous Chapter || Next Chapter
Summary: Jurdan High school AU. Rivals Jude and Cardan are forced to partner up for a history project, and drama ensues. (I know, I know, I suck at descriptions)
Trigger Warnings: I don’t think there’s anything so far, but please let me know if there’s anything I missed!
Jude stepped out her warm shower and into her bath robe, humming softly to herself. She’d gotten up early and went for a run, so she still had half an hour before Cardan was supposed to come over. Maybe she’d make herself a nice comforting breakfast to mentally prepare herself. She’d definitely need the extra dose of comfort food before dealing with Cardan. And to think she would have to do this for the rest of the semester.
Happy thoughts, she reminded herself. Think happy thoughts.
She opened her bathroom door, drying her hair off with her towel, and immediately jumped back in surprise, her towel slipping from her fingers.
Cardan Greenbriar was in her room. He was in her room, lounging on her chair, completely at ease as if he wasn’t in her bedroom. She blinked to make sure she wasn’t hallucinating.
Cardan looked up at her from where he sat on her chair, smirking. “Forget about our meeting?”
Jude’s mouth hung open in shock. She quickly closed it, her brain scrambling to catch up with the situation. “I didn’t forget. But it seems you forgot we were supposed to meet at 11:30, not 11:00, Cardan.”
“I’m nearly positive I said 11:00, Jude.” He leaned back in her chair, amused. “But maybe I’ll make a habit of coming early.” His eyes lowered from her dripping hair and landed on her bathrobe, and Jude felt herself blush.
“Shut up.” She marched over to her closet, grabbed the first outfit she could find, and walked back to her bathroom. “Give me a second, and then we’ll get this over with,” she growled, and tried not to slam the door behind her.
She looked up into the mirror, and realized she looked worse than she thought. Her brown hair hung down the side of her face in wet strands, and her cheeks were flushed, a side effect of dealing with Cardan.
Something about the way Cardan always seemed so in control of the situation got on her nerves, and she wanted to, for once, have the upper hand with him. He never seemed fazed, and Jude both envied and hated him for it.
She combed out her hair and changed into a casual shirt and mom jeans, doing her best to make sure it didn’t look like she tried in any way for him.
When she walked back in the room, Cardan was looking at his phone, his brow furrowed. Jude had to admit that it was jarring to see him against the messy clutter of her room, and she felt somewhat exposed at him seeing the space she had made her own.
With his attention on his phone, Jude gave him a quick once over. He wore faded skinny jeans that were ripped at the knees and a soft black sweatshirt. Her eyes were immediately drawn to the faded scar just above his sharp jawline, and a small part of her wondered how he had gotten it.
Cardan caught her gaze. “Like what you see?”
She made a gagging sound. “You wish. Come on, let’s go downstairs. I need food before dealing with you.”
“What, haven’t had coffee yet?”
She threw her folder at him and walked towards the door. “I hate you.”
“Do you?” He raised his eyebrows as he deftly caught the folder and got up to follow her. “Besides, I was just getting you back for changing my locker combination. How the hell did you do that? It took me three days to figure it out.”
She smiled. She was particularly proud of that. It seemed her hour of practice and watching Youtube videos had been worth it. “I am a woman of many talents.”
He snorted. “Well, I’m sure you can include lock-picking on your resume, right under thief.”
She walked into the kitchen and grabbed eggs from the fridge. “I didn’t steal your car keys. I just conveniently misplaced them. Do you want some?” she asked as she cracked an egg into a bowl.
“No thanks. How will I know you didn’t ‘accidentally’ poison them?”
Jude’s thoughts flashed back to her plans to poison him and she choked back a laugh. That was a little too close to the truth.
Their conversation was interrupted by Jude’s older sister Vivi, who came rushing down the stairs, shoes on and car-keys in hand.
She paused when she saw Cardan leaning against the kitchen counter. “I see Jude’s finally brought home a b- Cardan?”
Jude ignored the fact that Vivi had just exposed her nonexistent love life and asked, “You two know each other?”
Vivi smiled. “I went to high school with his sister. How do you know Cardan?” She wagged her eyebrows playfully.
Jude shot her a glare.
“We have classes together,” Cardan responded. “But Jude clearly wanted to get to know me better, if you know what I mean, and so she generously invited me over to ‘work’ on our history project together.”
Jude scowled. “I didn’t invite you. You invited yourself.”
“If you say so. But I know you wanted me to come over.”
Jude fumed and looked at Vivi. “He’s delusional.”
But Vivi just looked between them with a knowing smile.
“What?” Jude snapped.
Before Vivi could say anything, Cardan pointed to the stove behind her. “Uh, Jude, I think your eggs are burning.”
“Crap.” She ran and lifted the pan from the stove, but it was too late. The eggs were already black around the edges. She opened the trash can and dumped the eggs inside angrily.
She turned back around, and both Cardan and Vivi were trying to keep a straight face.
“I hate you guys.”
“Ah, so it’s not just me she hates,” Cardan responded wryly.
Vivi examined the remains of her scrambled egg that were still stuck on the pan. “I don’t know how you managed to mess up scrambled eggs.”
“She did tell me she was a woman of many talents,” Cardan said solemnly, before both of them broke into laughter.
 ~~~
 After Vivi left on a mysterious date she wouldn’t say anything about and Jude remade her eggs, they were actually able to get some work done. Jude tried not to let her surprise show when Cardan actually gave helpful input and took the project seriously, instead of sitting back and letting her do all the work like she had expected.
When Jude had suggested women’s rights as their topic, instead of dismissing the idea like a jerk, he suggested doing something more specific, and together they decided to do their project on the gender wage gap in the United States. She’d thought Cardan was just another dumb rich kid with too much time on his hands, and maybe he was, but she realized he was smarter than she gave him credit for.
By the time they were finished, Jude was actually proud of their outline. She looked up at the time and realized it was already half past one. She had to be at work for her first shift at two.
Jude had applied for a job at Courtside Coffee, a small coffee shop that was not too far from their school. She hoped to have a decent amount of savings before college. Jude didn’t want to depend on her sort-of father any more than she already had to. Madoc had taken them in when her parents had died despite the fact that they weren’t his biological children, but that didn’t mean she was going to keep taking his charity money throughout college.
Jude cleared her throat. “Um, I have work at two so I have to go. I think we did enough so far.”
Cardan got up and started picking up their papers. “Yeah, we’re pretty much done anyways.”
Jude went to grab her keys from the key holder on the wall, except they weren’t there. Frustration prickled up her neck. She’d told Taryn she needed the car today.
She picked up her phone and called her. After a couple of rings, Taryn answered, her voice lowered. “Hey, Jude. I’m kind of busy right now.”
“Taryn, I need the car. I told you I had my first shift at work today.”
“Oh, shoot. I forgot, sorry.”
Jude clenched her fists. This wasn’t the first time Taryn had conveniently forgotten Jude needed the car. “Well, where are you? How am I supposed to get to work?” Her voice raised in frustration.
“Uhhh… I’m kind of on a date?”
“You’re on a date? With who?” Of course both of her sisters were on dates today and she was stuck here with Cardan, she thought bitterly.
“I’ll tell you later. Can’t you just get a ride with Cardan? He’s still there right?”
Jude realized she must have let Cardan in this morning before she left. “Are you serious?”
“Come on Jude. I’m too far anyways to get back in time for your shift.”
“Fine,” Jude responded, her voice clipped, and hung up. Another reason she had wanted this job was to save up for her own car. Sharing with Taryn clearly wasn’t working.
She felt Cardan’s gaze on her. Heat prickled up her neck when she realized Cardan had probably heard the whole conversation.
“Is there something you need to ask me?” Cardan asked, playing with his keys innocently.
She gritted her teeth. “Can you give me a ride to work, Cardan?”
“I thought you hated me,” he said coyly, crossing his arms and leaning back against the doorway.
“Cardan, come on,” her eyes flicked to the clock. She had to be there in fifteen minutes.
“Wait, let me just savor this a little bit. Jude Duarte, begging for my help.”
“Cardan, I’m going to be late. Is it a yes or a no?”
“I’ll take you, but only if you come to one of my parties.”
Jude blinked. This had to be some sort of trick. “You want me to come to one of your parties?”
Cardan and his group of friends were notorious around the school for the parties they threw. From what she’d heard, they were typical high school parties, filled with bored kids that wanted to get drunk. Her first and only experience at a high school party had involved her awkwardly hiding out in the kitchen eating snacks while a couple made out against the fridge, and it was safe to say she wasn’t looking for a repeat of that incident. But she was desperate.
“Fine, I’ll go to your dumb party. Let’s go already.”
Jude grabbed her phone and wallet before walking to the door.
Cardan held it open for her, grinning a little too wide. “After you, my lady.”
Something told her this would come back to haunt her in the future.
Here’s chapter two!! crush (knj)
Pairing: knj x reader (f)
Genre: Fluff, eventual smut
Word count: 1.7k
Synopsis: You’ve been best friends with Namjoon for a long time now, and hiding your feelings for him keeps getting harder every day.
(author’s note: i am not sure how many parts will be in this, definitely more than two, thats for sure, but i will keep you guys updated!)
It was a very sunny day right after classes ended, almost the end of the semester (thank the lord), and you decided to go spend some time in a coffee shop right off campus with your best friend, Kim Namjoon. You both met in middle school, and through all the middle and high school drama, you all still stuck through it all. It was surprising actually, since you’ve had a crush on him since about the ninth grade. Keeping it hidden was getting harder and harder since you both spent almost every day together.
“What are you going to order? The usual?” Namjoon asked.
“Uh... yeah that’s fine. I was gonna change it up today, but nothing seems that appealing anymore.” You went into a haze and didn’t even notice that he was trying to get your attention until the barista called your name.
“Y/N! Hello? Anyone home?” He laughed at your dazed face.
“What? Did you say anything? I’m sorry, I’m just so tired.” You gave a tired smile back to him.
“I asked you if you wanted to start studying for Professor Kim’s final. You know how crazy he is about his tests, kinda don’t wanna fail.” He trailed off.
“Oh heaven forbid the Kim Namjoon fail a test. But yes, I do want to study. I don’t wanna fail either.” You joked.
You all both grabbed your binders, highlighters, and pens and opened his textbook. The way Professor Kim’s tests were laid out, made no since, and would almost surely drive a crazy person crazy. It is completely unjust, that one person can make a test so possibly hard. At this rate, you’ll need a 115% to at least get a C for the semester (which is passing), and there is a very good chance that you would not get that 115%.
“This is impossible. I’m gonna bomb this test. I’m just gonna drop out already, it’s not like my parents aren’t disappointed in me already.” You laid your head down on your binder and pretended to sob. Your know parents were undoubtedly so proud of you, but just for dramatic affect, okay.
“You’re not gonna fail the test, Y/N, you just need to refocus. What are you confused on?” He was always your go to study-buddy and tutor, ever since middle school.
“All of it! How is this fair, Joon. Can we just wrap this up today, please? I’m so tired.” You pleaded.
“Of course. Don't prematurely stress yourself out. We’ll work some more on it this tomorrow.” You both started to pack your things up, chatting while doing so.
“Are you going to Jackson’s party this weekend?” Joon asked.
“I wasn’t planning on it. Why?”
“Well... I was hoping that maybe you’d want to go. The boys and I are going. Jimin wanted me to ask you to go. If I’m being honest, I think he has a crush on you.” He laughed.
“He probably does. But i don’t know, Joon. I need to study.” You whined. You all pushed your chairs in and walked out of the cafe and started walking towards your dorms.
“We can study on Sunday. I need to destress, you need to destress, we all need a break Y/N. Please? We can stay for a few hours then we can leave and get like, Taco Bell, or something.” He had convinced you.
“Okay fine. Four hours tops, then Taco Bell.” You both chatted some more, talking about all the other finals that were coming up, what you both would wear, the latest Jackson drama, the usual topics.
-
You got back to your dorm and decided to take a shower (sitting in two hour lecture really can make you sweaty) and let the hot water run over your tense shoulder muscles. You never really realized how tense you had been until you finally try to relax and can’t.
Changing into some shorts and an oversized tee, you climbed into your bed and fell asleep almost instantly.
You woke up around two in the morning, your roommate, Jennie, sleeping across the room.
hey, are you awake? 2:05AM
yeah why? 2:06AM
can i come over? jennie is sleeping. 2:06AM
yep. door is unlocked 2:07AM
You made your way four doors down to Namjoon’s and Hobi’s room, hoping that Hobi wouldn’t be there. You opened the door to a studying Joon and Hobi. “What’s up, losers.” You yawned.
“Why are you awake this late? You’re usually asleep right now.” Hobi commented.
“I fell asleep like, right after I took a shower and just woke up like five minutes ago. What about you guys?” You took a seat on Joon’s bed.
“We’ve been studying. Too much.” Joon yawned. “Yeah, way too much. Please never take music theory, because I promise you, you’ll hate it.” Hobi added.
“Duly noted. Wasn't planning on it.” You laughed.
“Do you wanna put on a movie? I really want popcorn...” Namjoon pouted.
“It’s your room, that’s up to you fam. But popcorn sounds really good right now.” You agreed. Hobi got up to grab the Roku remote to start up Netflix and Hulu. Joon got up to put the popcorn in the microwave, and you got up farther in his bed to snuggle the blankets.
“You like my blankets, do you?” He smiled. You just nodded and snuggled them even further. He got up next to you and got under the blankets.
“Yo, turn the lights off.” You said towards Hobi, who was about to make his way to his bed. He groaned, but got up to turn them off.
where are you??? are you okay?? 2:25AM
i'm over at joon’s and hobi’s 2:25AM
ahhh okay 2:26AM
yeah im okay b 2:26AM
“Who was that?” Joon asked. “Jennie. She wanted to know where I was and if I was okay.” You smiled. Ever since you and her met at the beginning of the year, you and her had been best friends. You also made good friends with her friends, Rose, Lisa, and Jisoo. Lisa is dating Yoongi, and Rose is dating Jackson, and Jennie is dating Hobi. Your friend group was very close.
“What do you want to watch?” Just as soon as Hobi asked you and Joon, a knock was on the door. “It’s open!” He yelled.
Jennie walked in Hoseok’s sweatshirt and your shorts. “I’ve been looking for those! You took them!” You accused. “Yeah, I know. I’m sorry. I needed shorts on laundry day and forgot to give them back.”
“It’s okay. They look better on you anyways. Keep them.” You smiled.
“What are we watching?” She asked. You all shrugged. “We just opened Netflix when you knocked.” Hoseok said. She got up on his bed and got close next to him.
“Ah. After is out, you know the movie based on that like, Harry Styles fic a while back!” “Yeah! I’ve been wanting to watch that. Can we watch it? Can we?” You asked excitedly.
“I don't care. I’m probably going to end up falling asleep shortly. I’m so tired.” Joon yawned again.
“Yeah, me too. But that’s fine with me.” Hoseok agreed. “Yay!” You and Jennie said in unison.
Thirty minutes in and Joon was snoring away in his own dreamland. You could feel yourself drifting off as well. “How many times has she fallen asleep in your all’s room this week? She’s like always here, babe.” Jennie laughed.
“I don’t even know. Maybe like eight times, now nine. I think she’s just less stressed being near him. They’ve been friends for a very long time.” He explained.
-
You woke up around eleven in the morning with Namjoon’s arms around your torso, and Hoseok and Jennie not in the room.
where are you? 11:05AM
i’m in our room. we didn’t wanna wake you all up :) 11:05AM
oh okay 11:05AM
You put your phone back down and try to attempt to get out of his arms. “Moveeee. I have to pee.” You pry his arm off of you and make your way to their shared bathroom. Hopefully no guy walks in on you peeing.
“Oh shit! You scared me,” Yoongi laughed, “Sorry. I’ll get out.” He left the bathroom and shut the door. You ducked your head down and laughed. You finished your business, washed your hands and grabbed a pen and paper to let Joon know that you went to get breakfast and you’ll get back soon.
Long story short, in the span of an hour of you being gone, he still hadn't gotten up yet. You made many useless attempts to wake him, finally resulting in putting his breakfast right in his face. He mumbled something under his breath and rolled towards you.
“Good morning, sleepyhead.” You lightly tapped him on his head, but nothing.
“5 more minutes... I don’t wanna get up just yet.” He rolled back towards his mountain of soft pillows and threw his head under the blankets.
“Joon, it’s like twelve in the afternoon, hun. Get up. We have to study, then go get ready for Jackson’s party.” You grabbed a pillow and threw it at his head.
“Ugh. Fine,” he rolled back over towards you and checked his phone, “Why did you text me so many times?” He asked groggily.
“I went to Taco Bell to get breakfast burritos, you didn't answer so I got you the same as me.” You explained.
He nodded and sat up in his bed and grabbed his food. “So are you sure you want to actually study today? We could always go- wait! Where’s Hobi and Jennie?” He said looking around the room.
“They went to our room. They didn’t want to wake us up. But what were you saying?” You explained.
“We could always pre-party. Yoongi and Jimin are having a little get together in their room in like, three hours. That’s enough time to shower and change don’t you think?” It sounded fun, knowing Yoongi and Jimin, there would inevitably be alcohol and weed.
“Yeah! That sounds fun. I’ll finish eating then I’ll go back to my room to shower and change. I’ll meet you over there later.” You finished eating and said your goodbyes, and then made your way back to your room.
Ntdp masterlist
A/N: Spencer’s new insta post got me inspired! And also this is similar to Cali boy... and I wrote this really fast 😳
Song
Let me know your thoughts if you have any!
You watched the kids run up to the water embracing the cold water, the kids playing in the sand building castles, the adults enjoying a refreshment tanning, and the many girls and boys your age just trying to get any kind of sun on their skin before school started. You laid beside your friend watching the waves hit against the slime enjoying the sounds, “lets go for a walk.” Your friend suggested and you nodded your head and you both got up grabbing your phones and the travel tervis cups that may or may not have been full with alcohol that your mother let you both sneak down.
You walked the shoreline together taking pictures of each other, pointing out the sea shells and talking about the latest things going on Snapchat, your small friend circle, and such, it felt nice for you both to be away from the drama going on.
You were down taking pictures of each other about to look through them when a guy came up to you both, “this is a weird question, but can you take a picture of me and my friends?” You agreed taking his phone and the group of, hot, shirtless boys piled around each other on the shoreline and you started taking pictures of them all, “the lighting isn’t that good do you want to move?” You yelled over the waves crashing against the shore and they all agreed and you started taking pictures of them all again.
“Thanks, we were wondering if you both wanted to hang out with us? We get it if you say no.” The one grabbed his phone and just as you were about to decline your friend smiled, “yeah we would love to.”
“Knighter! You missed pictures!” One of the boys shouted and you looked over your shoulder seeing the boy they were all talking to, and you felt breathless just looking at him. His blonde curls were everything to pull you in, not only that his body had you almost off your feet.
“Shoot your shot,” your friend whispered in your ear and you laughed turning your attention to her, you hadn’t dated anybody in such a long time, you almost wanted to push yourself to do this, but you wanted to wait for college, you didn’t want to fall in love with someone you would never see again.
“I won’t.”
“Who are these lovely ladies?” He asked in front of you both and you lost all words just looking at him this close in front of you. You almost forgot how to speak which caused your friend to shove your tervis into your chest, if you couldn’t speak sober the only thing that could get you to do it was what was in your cup.
“I’m y/f/n, and this is y/n.” She introduced you and you took a long swig of what was in your drink and he smiled at you, he felt it too, he didn’t know how to act in front of you as well, “cool I’m Spencer.” his smile could barely be wiped off his face walking away towards his friends now, “thank you for bringing them.” Spencer could hardly make it over to his friends saying that and they looked at you both talking together sitting on one of the boys towels.
“You want her? Shoot your shot.” He nudged his head in your direction and he could barely even look over at you knowing if he looked over at you he wouldn’t want to take his eyes off of you.
Spencer laughed, “yeah like she’d like me.”
Some more of the boys went to get more to drink from their beach house while you stayed back and your friend volunteered to go with so now it was you, a few of the boys, some girls, and Spencer.
“Just go talk to her, she’s alone around strangers be a man.” His friend shoved him across the beach practically and Spencer made his way over to you, you were looking out at the water bored out of your mind waiting for your friend to get back since none of the girls here were really your type of girls to hang with.
“Hey,” He said sitting down next to you and you smiled, “hi,” you looked over at him and butterflies were in your stomach now just by looking at him.
“You live in Massachusetts?” He asked and you nodded your head, “I can tell you don’t.” You laughed, he didn’t have a noticeable Massachusetts accent like you didn’t, but you knew he was from up the coast.
“No, no I’m from Connecticut.”
“Lacrosse player?”
“Surprisingly no.” He replied and you nodded your head, “then what are you, Connecticut boy?” You smirked running your hand through your hair, “hockey player, well goalie to be specific.”
“You like it?” You asked and he nodded his head smiling looking out at the water, “I played national development for the past two years with some of my best friends.” He sighed and you could see the sadness in his eyes thinking about those memories, “you’re not ready to let go are you?” You asked and now he looked at you, “how do you know?”
“It’s in your eyes, why are you sad to let it go?” You asked leaning back and he could barely find words as to why he wasn’t ready. He would be far away from all his friends again, some close by and some with him, but not all of them would join him.
“They were my best friends, and I never imagined two years with them would go by so fast.”
“Friends are forever, Spencer, they are just like the waves always in consent, yeah you’ll lose some, but some will stay with you, and that’s what’s important. People fade like the tide but they will come back. what’s important is the memories and lessons they’ve taught you.”
“I think that’s the most valuable thing someone has ever told me.” He replied getting up off the towel, “you want to come walk with me?”
“Yeah I’d love too.”
It was night time and you were invited to hang out with the boys after dinner at their place and now you were making your way from your beach house to theirs, it was only a couple blocks down which wouldn’t be a bad walk, except you both decided to drive around and get ice cream before heading over to their beach house. You were pulling up to their house with music blasting out your Jeep windows and all the boys playing basketball in the front stopped playing once you put your car in park.
“I think they know we are here.” Your friend laughed getting out of your car and you hopped out locking the car seeing them all go back to playing, “play your music any louder?” Spencer asked deciding to take a break from playing and your friend went over to the group of girls, she got along with them a lot more than you did.
“It’s called having a good time.” You said and he pulled something out of your hair, “yeah you’re going to have to take a shower again you have bugs in your hair, that’s what wind will do to you.” He smirked and now all the boys stopped playing basketball, “boys! It’s fishing time!” One of them clapped their hands and they all went inside, “are we allowed in?” You asked mainly to your friend, you weren’t sure if you were comfortable going inside some random guys beach house that you didn’t know, but you didn’t want to be the only ones not going in.
“You coming?!” One of the guys called out and you both walked inside seeing there were no parents at the house. not a single adult in sight which freaked you out even more, “if we die—“
“We won’t.” Your friend cut you off and you followed the boys getting their fishing poles and you all went back down to the beach seeing their set up was still there from earlier and you sat on Spencer’s towel, “hey,” he fake frowned and you shrugged blushing a little bit, “you can sit there—unless you want to fish with me?” He asked and you looked at your friend who nodded you along, “sure,” you stood up handing her your phone and you followed him out to the shoreline.
“You ever done fishing by the shore?” He asked starting to get his things around and you tied your hair back, “no.” You replied ane he smiling up at you, “today’s your lucky day.” He handed you the pole putting everything together and you looked over at your friend sitting there, she gave you a thumbs up and you turned back to Spencer.
“Alright, ready?” He asked and you nodded your head and he grabbed a hold of the pole from behind you throwing the line out, “there you go.”
“You’re just going to let me do it?” You asked nervously turning to him and he laughed nodding his head, “come on, Massachusetts girl, show me what you got.”
You laughed feeling the line tug and you reeled it in quickly to see you caught a big one, “nice catch,” Spencer went to the fish pulling it off the line, “I don’t know if I should say thank you or you’re welcome?”
“I mean thank you because you caught it and you’re welcome because you caught it for me.”
You watched Spencer with the girls for hours fish, it was boring because you decided you didn’t want to fish anymore, but Spencer every now and then would show you the fish he caught.
“Aye, Knight! You catch a big one next you got to ask the girl out!” One of his friends called out and he looked down the shoreline seeing the devilish smirk on his face, “deal!” He called back feeling the line tug pretty hard and Spencer reeled it in seeing it was no other than quite a large fish. It was like God was on his side or something giving him a sign.
He heard cheers from his buddies and that’s when he realized he had to ask you out, there was nothing bad about it, he just was afraid of rejection.
“Ask her out, man!” The same friend called out and Spencer let the fish go now heading over to you with his pole, you were sitting there by yourself since all the girls had gone back to get sweatshirts getting ready for sunset pictures.
“Do you want to go out to dinner tomorrow?”
“Sure, say seven o’clock?”
“I’ll see you then.”
They were like the waves, connected in a way the ocean told him something he never thought he could imagine. Always in consent. Some summers were just better than others and Spencer could agree with that.
You were the good girl. Friday nights consisted of doing AP homework instead of getting drunk with your friends. Your grades were stellar. You held numerous leadership positions, and you were on the varsity tennis team. Any of the Ivies would drop on their knees to accept you. Of course, you weren’t thinking about school all the time. God, it would be social suicide to be a nerd. Those kids…were weird. You lived in Beverly Hills after all. Shopping at Louis Vuitton with your girlfriends. Eating at Nobu and Katsuya every other week. It was the norm. You had even had your fair share of hooking up with a few boys, but most of them sucked. You would think the boys at Harvard Westlake would be pretty decent, but your experiences proved otherwise. They would kiss you, and the next second wanted you to be their girlfriend. You just wanted the pleasure, you didn’t need all the boyfriend shit. And honestly their kissing wasn’t stellar either. But, all that changed on the first night of summer.
♡~♡~♡
“You coming to Jungkook’s party tonight?” Adrianna asks me as she begins to reapply her vibrant red lipstick. I look up from my AP U.S. History textbook, bewildered.
“You know my parents would kill me,” I reply. “And Jungkook Jeon? What an ass.”
“It’s the first day of summer! What the hell do you even have to study tonight?!” Naomi exclaims, continuing to text her boyfriend, Ethan, on her phone.  “And Jungkook? Damn, if I didn’t have Ethan, I would sooo hook up with him.” She looks up from her phone glancing at her girl friends. “You so did not hear me say that,” she quickly says and then looks back down at her phone. Everyone laughs, including me.
“I don’t know…I mean I would go, but my parents…” I trail off. “I’ll ask I guess,” I mumble. The girls cheer, and I smile. I mean…it’s the first day of summer. Would my parents really make me stay in?
♡~♡~♡
“Absolutely not!” my father exclaims, incredulously.
“Why not?” I ask. “It’s Jungkook’s party. You like him, don’t you?” I reply. His parents are super close friends with my parents, but whenever Jungkook would come over I would just lock myself in my room saying I had way too much homework to do.
“Yes, but --”
“Soooo, you can trust me not to do anything bad. Jungkook’s sooo nice, too. Please, it’s the first day of summer,” I beg.
“No. You have to start writing college admissions essays, don’t you?” “I have five months, Dad! Please!”
“If your father says no, then the answer is no,” my mother replies. I bite my lip from uttering something that I would regret. God, they sicken me. I do every damn thing they want, yet they won’t let me do one little thing. “Fine. Can I at least go to the library to write the essays? Mom, you can even drop me off,” I ask, a plan forming in my head.
She looks at my dad, but he just scowls and walks away. Typical. “Fine, but I’ll pick you up at 11:30 PM.”
“Thank you,” I reply. I walk to my room and immediately enter my walk-in closet. What to wear, what to wear? I pull open a drawer and look through the vast collection of lingerie I had secretly bought with my friends. I decide to wear a beautiful strapless black lace bra with matching underwear. Why not? I think. It’s not every damn day I dress up. I throw on a navy blue crewneck I had bought during a college campus visit at Columbia and put some leggings on. I then go through all my dresses and pick a strappy lace-y black romper. Searching through my shoes I finally find my dazzling black Gucci heels adorned with diamonds and grab a silver necklace with a single pearl. It was a gift Jungkook’s parents had actually given me for my sixteenth birthday, and it happened to be my favorite necklace. I hook the necklace around my neck and hide it beneath my sweater. I put the romper and heels at the bottom of my backpack and fill a small makeup bag with the essentials I need. I am going to that damn party.
I text Adrianna quickly: Ade, pick me up from the library at 6 please?
Adrianna: sure whatever ly ❤
I smirk to myself as I walk out of my room. I look plain. No makeup on my face. Hair in a messy bun. Leggings and a crewneck sweatshirt. No one would suspect I was planning to go to the hottest party of the summer. It is 4:30. I had a lot of time to kill at the library. “Mother! I’m ready!” I call, annoyed.
Moments later, I am in my mother’s Porsche, and she silently drives me to the Beverly Hills Public Library. It was a fifteen minute drive, and I wave goodbye to her as soon as she pulls up in front of the library. At that moment, I feel the slightest bit of guilt. I tried to not break the rules too often, but this party…it was calling me. AP Exams were done. I know I got all 5s. All my SATs and Subject Tests were done. 1500+ of course. All my finals went well. I deserve this party. “Hey mom? I love you,” I say, and that makes me feel a little bit better for my lying. She gives a soft smile. I turn away walking towards the library before it becomes a sappy moment.
I open my laptop and go to Netflix to turn on my favorite TV show at the moment, Beverly Hills, 90210. I immerse myself within the characters’ drama, and as I watch Kelly kiss another boy, I somehow wish my life is as interesting as theirs. Naomi has her boyfriend, Ethan. Adrianna, a growing actress, gets to be practically anyone else she wanted with all the roles she is receiving. Silver is constantly making films and blogging. Even Annie’s, the principal’s daughter, life seems more interesting than mine. I sit there sulking at this fact while watching the show for a while when a text pops up.
Jimin: u comin to the party 2nite
I sit up suddenly interested. Jimin has no reason to text me…unless maybe he wanted to…do some things. I quickly type back a yes.
Jimin: cant wait ;)
I ponder over his texts. He is the typical fuckboy material. Hooking up with girls and leaving them when they least expect it. Do I want that? Whatever, it doesn’t matter. But I think back to the time we had made out at his beach house a few summers ago…he wasn’t as bad as the rest of the boys either when it came to all that. Maybe he could be the perfect summer fling, and when school started we could break it off. Being alone is good enough for me. Adrianna finally arrives at the library at 6:13 PM, and I jump into the passenger seat as she begins to drive home.
“Damn, that outfit is definitely going to impress the boys,” she says, looking at my lazy outfit.
“Yep, this bitch is definitely getting it tonight.” I point at myself making a weird face. We laugh, and it feels good. Good to be away from my parents. From school.
Soon we are in her house, and within fifteen minutes our friends are all here. Annie and Silver lie on Adrianna’s bed gossipping while Naomi applies makeup. Adrianna straightens her hair, and I strip myself of my boring clothes. She glances at me and a devilish smile appears on her face. “Now that’s going to impress some boys,” she says, admiring my lingerie set.
“Thanks,” I say while putting on the romper. It hugs me in all the right places. Just the right amount of cleavage and legs. I turn around in the mirror, realizing people would be able to see my bra. Dammit, I forgot this was a backless romper.
“Oh, honey, you should definitely take the bra off.” Naomi says. I expertly unclasp the bra and throw it at her. “Hey!” she squeals. What seems like just seconds is a couple of hours. By the time we are all done gossipping, giggling, and getting ready it is 10 PM. I walk out of the bathroom and twirl around for the girls.
“What do you think?” I ask, winking.
“Hot, hot, hot,” Silver exclaims. Along with the low-cut black romper I paired it with the sparkling Gucci heels and pearl necklace. I kept my makeup to a minimal. A bit of foundation. A little blush. Some mascara and eyeliner. My lips painted with a glittery gloss. My perfectly curled hair is pulled back into a high ponytail, and overall, I portray the typical rich Beverly Hills girl.
Because Jungkook’s house is just a few houses down from Adrianna’s, we walk to the big mansion. My eyes widen as I absorb the beauty of his house. God, he really has it all. He has it all except for a nice personality.
We enter the home, and everyone separates to different aspects of the party. Naomi to Ethan. Silver and Annie towards the food. And Adrianna towards the party games. So that leaves me. Alone. At a party. A waiter passes by, holding a few different cocktails, and I take a pink-colored one. I want to explore every inch of this grand palace. Jungkook is lucky. He is lucky as hell. Something told me I would be coming back to his house, so I know I will have a lot of other opportunities to see his mansion. I decide to go out to the backyard. This was not a typical backyard though with some uneven grass and a little pool. This is Beverly Hills after all. An infinity pool is placed on the edge, looking out towards the sparkling lights of Los Angeles. Downtown is clearly in view. People are swimming in the pool and seem content. There are a few outdoor couches spread out, and a little mini bar station serving a plethora of alcoholic drinks and sophisticated appetizers.
I spot Jimin with Jungkook, who happen to be best friends, and his eye catches mine. His lips begin to smile, and I can see his eyes rake over my body. I remember how he did that last time; my cheeks grow warm, and I head back inside. Jungkook does not turn around to see what his friend is staring so intently at.
Practically every room is filled with people. In such a big home, I expected there would be an empty room, but no. After ten minutes of searching, I am finally able to find an isolated living room. A half empty bottle of champagne sits on the glass table, and I pour myself the remnants into my glass. Maybe I was bored, or maybe I unconsciously wanted to get drunk, either way, I just could not stop drinking. I fish my iPhone out of my pocket and see a few text messages from my parents asking how my essays are coming along. Fuck them. A bunch of snapchat notifications are on my phone, and I see Jimin had sent me one. Seven minutes ago. It is a blurry selfie of himself, and he had captioned it “where r u”. I don’t reply.
Suddenly, a voice says, “So, she finally decided to show up,” My head whips around, and I see Jungkook standing there looking down at me, an empty champagne glass in his right hand, and another bottle in the other. He sports a classic dark suit, and he has a single black stud in his ear. Typical bad boy look. “What are you doing all alone?” he teases, as he takes a seat right next to me on the plush couch. I don’t say anything. The side of his body presses against mine, and I tense up. “I was looking for you.” he says, and I look at him, a mixture of disgust and curiosity on my face.
“Go away, Jungkook,” I say, turning away from him. I did not want to see his face. I hate him.
“C’mon. You don’t talk to me anymore, and I don’t even know why.”
“You know exactly why,” I snap, and I turn to look at him. I am unable to read his expression.
“I don’t know,” he protests, and he pours a glass of champagne for himself. He tips the bottle towards me, and I hold out my glass to have him fill it up.
“Why does it matter anyway?” I ask.
“Because every time I go to your house you shut me out. I’m stuck sitting with your and my parents listening to them talk about whatever shit they always talk about. You just did it for no reason, and all I want to know is why.”
“Dammit, Jungkook. You slept with one of my best friends after telling me you loved me. Gee, I definitely don’t have ANY reason to be mad at you right?”
He looks hurt, but he knows it is true. “You didn’t say anything to me! You just looked at me and left! I…I didn’t know what to do. Did you think I would just wait for you forever?”
“I liked you, and you couldn’t even wait. I had to think things through!” My words are faltering. Why did I reject him? I was probably scared. Scared to get into a relationship. Scared of the emotional attachment that comes with dating. “It doesn’t matter anymore. Clearly, we have different people in our lives anyway.” I justify, thinking about how Jimin had smiled at me earlier. And I know Jungkook probably has someone else too. I shift my body towards him, and his gaze makes me want him. I want him even though I despise him. The tension between us heightens as we both look at each other. I avert my eyes away from him and quickly change the topic. “So. What’s the point of throwing these big parties anyway?” I ask, taking a sip of the champagne.
“To let go. To feel less alone,” he curtly replies, downing his glass of champagne and pouring another. How many glasses had he already drank? He pushes his hair back and exhales. “What about you?”
“Same reason, I guess.”
“How are your parents doing…?” he asks tentatively.
“They’re pretending as if nothing is wrong. He fucking cheated on her, and she doesn’t do anything.” I don’t know why I’m telling him about my personal problems, but it’s not like any of my friends would listen. We had to portray ourselves as perfect girls who did not have any worries. We were supposed to be who everyone looked up to. It feels invigorating telling him my problems.
He sighs. “I’m sorry,” I can tell he means it. Maybe he is different from every other rich Californian boy here. So maybe he screwed up once…but he still seemed like the sweet boy I knew. “Obviously, you can tell from all this that my parents still don’t give a shit about what the hell I do,” he mutters taking another swig of the champagne.
“Can’t be that bad to have parents who don’t care, can it?”
“Well, think about it this way. If my parents actually cared, do you think I would throw these parties? Would I be hooking up with girls in hopes to have them stop me? God, you would think me having done drugs a few times would have made them notice.”
I sit up, having never thought about it that way.
“Is it some sort of requirement for the rich kids to have shitty parents?”
He scoffs. “Guess so.”
We sit in silence for a heartbeat, leaning into each other both of us afraid to do or say anything.
“I miss you.” he says suddenly. I know he is thinking about the times we had laughed in the basement of his beach house while watching movies. The times he would help me with my math homework. They were good memories, but that didn’t change anything now. I shift away.
“Jungkook, just stop. Nothing changes between us just because we both have shitty parents. It can’t take away what you did to me.”
“What was I supposed to do? I waited for you, and you made it pretty clear you didn’t feel the same way.”
“You didn’t give me enough time -– you know what, we’re not talking about this again. I’m done.” I stand up to leave. “I thought you were different, but you’re just as bad as every other boy here.”
“I thought you were different too, but you’re here drinking champagne on my couch, so obviously you aren’t who I thought you were either.” He pauses, taking another sip of his champagne. He smirks up at me. “You’re exactly like me.”
My jaw drops. “Fuck you, Jungkook. I’m nothing like you.”
As I walk away, I hear him faintly say, “Wait…” I ignore him and storm away. Hoping to find my friends, I climb up the flight of stairs angrily, when I bump into none other than Jimin. The perfect distraction. “Hey,” I coolly initiate.
He smiles. “Hi.”
“Soo…where were you heading?” I ask. A couple scooches past us to go down the stairs.
“Oh, y’know. I was going to see where Jungkook was, but, I suppose that could wait.”
I smile feeling satisfaction. He is exactly what I need. A distraction.
We climb up the rest of the stairs together, and when we reach the main floor I spot a pool table. Adrianna and Carter, an attractive brown-haired boy, are playing, and I lead Jimin over. “Wanna play in teams?” I ask, and they agree. Adrianna eyes Jimin and mouths ‘nice.’ I mouth back ‘same to you.’ We all play for awhile, and I completely forget about the argument I had with Jungkook. Jimin’s hand is on my waist as he guides me on how to properly hit the ball.
Soon, more people arrive at the table, and Jimin whispers in my ear, “Let’s get out of here.” I oblige, and he leads me to a gorgeous room. The walls are painted a beautiful black and the ceiling a light grey color. From the ceiling hangs a small black chandelier. A plush black carpet is placed on top of the dark wooden floor. The bed is pushed up against the wall, a white silk bedspread on top of it along with a few burgundy and black throw pillows. It is absolutely insane how beautiful the bedroom is. I take a guess that this must be Jungkook’s parents’ bedroom. And I do not give a shit that we were about to ruin it. Jimin pulls me onto the bed, and his lips brush against mine. We both sit there for a while, kissing slowly.
As his kissing gets more intense, Jimin slowly begins to push me into a lying position on the bed, when suddenly the door bursts open. Thinking it is one of my friends or some drunk guy, I continue to kiss Jimin hoping the person will realize the room is clearly occupied and will leave.
“What the actual fucking hell,” a voice hisses. Jimin pulls away, and we both sit up. Jungkook’s eyes are fixed on me. Jimin looks like he couldn’t give less of a shit.
Jimin stands up, clearing his throat. “Sorry bro. I thought you wouldn’t mind me using your room. Clearly not,” he remarks. His voice indicates no empathy. No shame. I realize I should have known this was Jungkook’s room. Who else would want a completely black room? I bite my lip from laughing at Jimin’s comment. Jungkook deserves to be hurt. Without any more words being said, Jungkook forces a smile, indicating Jimin should leave. He figures and begins walking out the door when he questioningly looks back at me still sitting on the bed.
“I’ll be out in a few…” I say. He nods.
I wanted to oh-so-badly make a few witty remarks. Make him hurt more than he already is. The second Jimin leaves the room, Jungkook closes the door quietly and locks it.
“Are you fucking serious? Jimin Park?” Jungkook exclaims.
“Just call it getting even,” I retort. His eyes are set ablaze by anger. His hand clenching into a fist. Although I don’t want to admit it, it’s hot. Hot as hell to see him getting angry. Getting jealous.
“With Jimin? That’s some serious class you got there,” he replies. I stop smiling.
“Are you saying you have class? Because damn, that’s clearly shown when you fucked my best friend.” I stand up from his bed, and heels clicking on the wooden floor, I brush past him, but he grabs my wrist, holding it tightly.
He steps closer until his body is right behind mine. “I am not like every other boy here,” he breathes into my ear, and I close my eyes, my mind begging to taste his lips. Leave him. Go find Jimin. Now. Leave him, leave him, leave him. Why am I not leaving?
“Jungkook…you’re drunk,” I whisper. We’re both drunk. Drunk on the idea of a possible romance. A possible rekindling of the fire we had almost once had.
“Are you telling me you don’t like this?” His hand glazes up the side of my body. His finger playing with the black strap of my romper. He pulls away all contact, and I am left wanting more. I want to turn around and kiss him. But I am too prideful to give in.
I don’t answer him. I hate him. God, he is the epitome of high confidence. Goddamn, why did he have to be so fucking attractive? I hate him so so so much. He is just like every other rich Californian boy. Just wanting to hook up and nothing more. Right? Right? Right?! Maybe it was because I drank too much champagne or the fact I just wanted to let go, but I shake my head no. No, I don’t like this. I love this. He is ruining me, and he loves it. And I love it too. It is the first night of summer. I want to be someone else. Not the person who is expected to study all the time. God, I need him.
I turn to face him, and he has a smirk on his face. “You think you can break me, but you can’t.”
“Oh, yeah?” he whispers lowly, looking down at my lips.  “Well, you can’t break me either.” Why do we both have to be so proud? Goddammit, I want him, but I won’t give in. I won’t give in. Maybe if I keep telling that to myself I wouldn’t give into his temptations. My heels click away from him, and I open the door.
“Bye, Jungkook,” I wink at him. He looks pissed. Pissed as fuck.
By this point I do not know where Jimin had gone off to. He probably had gone off with some other girl after witnessing the rising tension between Jungkook and I. It doesn’t matter though because Jungkook and I were the sealed fate for tonight. Whether he knew it or not, one of us would eventually give in. And that would be him. I check what time it is on my phone, and it is 12:17 AM. Some people are leaving, but c’mon, the party had only started 2 hours ago.
Adrianna, Annie, and Naomi are lying back on a couch outside, their long, slender legs placed on top of the glass table. They look like they are the queens of the party. Annie and Naomi shift over to give me room in the middle.
“Heard you hooked up with Jimin,” Naomi comments.
“We just made out. Jungkook kind of interrupted us before anything could really happen.” I reply. Should I tell them about what happened after Jimin left?
“And?” Naomi presses.
“I don’t know. Jimin left, so…yeah.” My mind wanders back to thinking about Jungkook’s touch. His cold fingers grazing up my arm. His breathing next to my ear driving me insane. Stop thinking about it. Annie studies me carefully. She understands me better than Naomi and Adrianna. She rarely spread rumors nor liked being in the center of attention.
“Let’s go get some drinks,” she finally says. “We’ll be back in a few,” she says to the girls. We stand up, heading inside. The air is cold inside making me shiver.
“Please spill.”
I give her the general details, nothing…too graphic.
“Ohmygod. Why are you not with him right now?!”
“Because…we’re in a competition,” I mumble sheepishly, realizing how stupid it is. We are seventeen year olds playing little kid games.
“What…?”
“We’retryingtoseehowlongwecanstayawayfromeachother,” I say really fast, embarrassed.
“I swear to God. You are this close to getting with the hottest guy in the grade, and you’re…avoiding him? For a little competition? You’re literally crazy!” she exclaims incredulously.
“Annnnnnnie, you don’t get it,” I insist.
“All I’m hearing is that both of you are too damn proud to be the first one to admit you like each other.”
“I don’t like him.” But I do.
“You keep telling yourself that, but c’moooon. It is so obvious. Seriously, I’m telling you. Just go to him now, tell him you love him, and there’s your happily ever after.”
“Fine, fine. I’ll text him.”
“You better tell me everything tomorrow!” she squeals, and she walks back to Naomi and Adrianna.
I shake my head, smiling. I know exactly how to do it. A waiter passes by, and I quickly grab a cocktail. I take it to Jungkook’s room, and I down the sweet alcoholic drink within mere seconds. I would need it. Unlocking my phone, I text Jungkook: your room. 15 minutes. My fingers shake as I type each letter out. My heartbeat quickening. What if you’re too late just like last time? What if he’s with another girl already? What if you’re not good enough for him? What if, what if, what if? These questions run through my mind, and I become a growing time bomb. I stand up to dim the lights in his room to a point where he would be able to see me, but not super clearly. You should just leave. He doesn’t love you, I lie down on the silky bedspread, the cool fabric touching my almost bare back. Every second feels like a minute. Every minute feels like an hour. Why did it even matter to me if he comes or not? I could have any boy I want, right? I unlock my phone again to find he had still not read the text. It had been thirteen minutes. Two minutes pass, and he’s still not here. It doesn’t matter. I stand up beginning to leave, completely done with him. I’m done with him. That is the moment he finally walks in, closing the door behind him. He glides toward me until my body is pressed against the black wall, having no place to go, “Where do you think you’re going?”
“I thought you wouldn’t come,” I mutter, tilting my head down. His fingers tips my chin up. He is looking me directly in the eyes.
“Clearly, you were wrong,”
My breath stops for just a second. His lips inch towards mine and connect. They taste of mint and move against mine slowly. He seems…unsure. His hands grip my waist gently, and my hand cups his cheek. I want more. I pull away, and he looks surprised. “Kiss me like you fucking mean it. God, I thought you were good at this. Hmm, maybe I should go back to Jimin.” I egg him on, knowing he will get pissed. And he does.
“Don’t say his name,” he mutters, and his lips reconnect with mine with more need. More hunger. This time I could feel the confidence. The cockiness. It is way different than Jimin’s kisses. Jimin was absolutely emotionless, but Jungkook…He has everything. Anger. Jealousy. Love. Lust. All of it is there. I am so lost in him. He slides his jacket off, and he roughly bites my lip, needing more. He does not care how rough he is. He needs me, and I need him. I notice the hints of alcohol as our tongues fight for dominance. Putting his hand on my ponytail, Jungkook takes the hairtie out. My hair cascades down, and he runs his fingers through my hair. I eventually win control. I push him away from the wall and lead our bodies towards the bed. Suddenly, Jungkook pulls away this time. He grabs me by the waist and pushes me onto the bed so I fall into a lying position. I let out a small yell, and he smiles devilishly. All the control I thought I had is gone. He pushes up against me, his clothed hips rolling down on mine. His face buries into my neck, and I let out a small moan.
“I win,” he mumbles into my neck. I can feel him growing restless as he leaves soft kisses everywhere. His teeth work at gently tugging on the sensitive skin. I don’t care that I would go home with so many damn love bites on my neck. Jungkook is mine, and that is all that matters right now. He continues to leave bites everywhere, and no amount of makeup would be able to cover them. Moans continuously leave my lips, and God, I can feel him smiling.
“I fucking hate you, Jungkook,”
“I’m sure you do,” he breathes against my now sensitive skin. I let out a sigh of pleasure. He finally sits up to look down at me. He appears smug seeing all the bites he has left. Pure art.
I sit up and climb onto his lap, my arms hooking around his neck. “Time for payback,” I press my lips against his softly. As our lips move together, I work to throw his tie off and unbutton his shirt. My hands roam down his chest to his abs to his thigh. I grip his clothed thigh knowing it would drive him absolutely crazy. He groans lowly.
“Fuck,”
I scatter bites across his neck. The upper part of his chest. He is a mess. An absolute fucking mess. I can not believe I completely have him under my spell. He throws his head back moaning.
It is as if there is no party going on outside the almost dark bedroom. It is just me and Jungkook. In that moment, we do not give a shit about what problems we have in our lives. We just need each other.
♡~♡~♡
“I…I should go. My parents…” I groan against him. He plays with the strap of my romper.
“Just a little bit longer?” he asks. With all the will I have remaining, I remove myself from him. I shake my head no, and he looks disappointed. I glance at his clock. 1:57 AM. How had more than an hour passed of us just making out?
“So, whens round two gonna be?” I whisper. I sit on the edge of his bed leaning over to put my heels back on. I would probably get someone who is still at the party to drive me home or something.
“How about now?” he asks, putting his chin on my shoulder. I glance at him. He looks like an innocent puppy. I do not understand how he could change his personality so fast.
“Jungkook…” I trail off.
He begins to kiss my neck again. Fuck.
“C’mon. You can deal with your parents later…” he whispers. I think about it as he continues to kiss over the hickies he had left earlier. Either way, leaving now or in the morning, my parents would kill me. I kick off my shoes as quickly as I had put them back on.
He pushes me back down, and he smirks. “And just so you know…I won. I knew you couldn’t resist me,” he remarks, his lips so close to mine.
He gives that irresistible smile and without me realizing it, he begins to slowly push the straps of my romper down. But I won’t say anything more. Because what happened in Beverly Hills stayed in Beverly Hills.
Rufus and Luke ch.1 The premier
Note: I DO NOT SHIP THESE PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE. I just had this idea and had to get it out of my head. it’s just for fun. You can also find this story on Archieve of Our Own, my username is Brandon_p.
Tumblr media
Luke Deacon was out of place. He didn't know anyone there except for Brian, Roger, and Freddie of course. He also had met Joe Mazzello a few times but he didn't really know him. Luke had felt out of place his entire life, at school and in the real world. Being too weird, or people not understanding his jokes.
The one person he did know was Delilah Mercury (Freddie Mercury and Jim Hutton's daughter) and she isn't here yet, running late. So the only thing left to do was find a place to sit and wait. He was at the after-party at the premiere of Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biopic. It was loud and there was a lot of lights, everything Luke hated. So he pulled out his phone.
The Gay brother (Cameron Deacon)
Luke: Cam
Luke: Cam
Luke: CAMMMMM
Cameron: what
Luke:I’m bored
Cameron: How's the premier?
Luke: BORRIINNGGG
Cameron: How can it be boring??
Luke: I don't know anyone
Cameron: where’s delilah?
Luke: She’s late
Luke: Wait she’s texting me, hold on
Girl who’s named after a cat (Delilah Mercury)
Delilah: I’m coming
Luke: HURRRYYYY
Delilah: okay chill bro
Luke: no chill, never chill, i’m never chilly
Delilah: I’m outside
Luke: YAY
Luke started walking outside to see Delilah, but first, he had to get through the crowd. He was almost there when he bumped into Luke started walking outside to see Delilah, but first, he had to get through the crowd. He was almost there when he bumped into someone. “Sorry” He had long blond hair, and big blue eyes, probably one of the Taylor kids but he was too focused on getting to Delilah that he ignored him.
“Get yo ass over here” Luke yelled as he saw Delilah’s car pull up.
“Sup long legs,” Delilah said before pulling Luke into a hug. She was wearing a long floral dress and her long brown hair was pulled into a braid.
“Why you leave me” Luke complained like a child as Delilah pulled him inside.
“I left something at home” and that was all the explanation she gave him.
“Can we ditch the party?”.
“No, my dad wants us to be here and you need to make new friends” and they entered the building.
“Okay Mom” and they started walking through the crowd.
“RUFUS” Delilah practically yelled, almost bursting Luke’s eardrums.
“DELI,” The guy, named Rufus said and pulled Delilah into a hug.
“Oh, I forgot to introduce you two,” Delilah said pointing to Luke and Rufus.” Luke this is Rufus Taylor” Luke recognized the man, it was the same pretty boy who bumped into him. “Rufus this is Luke Deacon”.
“We know each other,” both boys said in unison and they both let out a little giggle.
“Really how?” Delilah asked.
“He punched me,” Luke said innocently.
“I did not,” rufes said.
“Rufus why did you do that to your brother” aka mother Delilah.
“Get him, mom,” Luke said and Rufus laughed, Usually people would just stare at Luke funny if he made a joke like that but he seemed to get it.
“Is there a bar?” Delilah asked.
“Can you even drink?” Luke asked and received a punch in the shoulder.
“I’m 22, I’m not that short” and they all made their way over to the bar.
“I’m gonna go find my dad but Luke orders me a beer” and she hurried off, leaving Luke and Rufus. Luke made a mental note to punch her cause she knew he was bad with meeting new people.
“I’ll have a sprite” Luke ordered.
“I’ll have whiskey” Rufus ordered. Luke made a note of that ့ Likes Whiskey.
“Whiskey, wow” Luke commented.
“Being a good boy and ordering a soda I see”.
“Keep it pure for Jesus” Rufus shot him a million dollar smile. Luke pulled open twitter. Writing “This bitch ordered whiskey while I’m over here drinking my apple juice” and pressed tweet.
“What are you doing?” and he looked over at Luke’s phone.
“Tweeting about you,” He said smiling at his phone.
“Let me see” and Luke handed over his phone and went into laughing.”Your twitter is weird” he commented as he gave Luke back his phone.
“I just write what I think, I think a lot of weird things” and he nodded his head.
“Your honest, I like that” Holy shit was Rufus fucking Taylor flirting with him.
“You wanna bitch this place?” he asked.
“Yep,” He said instantly without thought and downed his whiskey. They didn't even think of Delilah, who was probably gonna be pissed tomorrow. They were close to the exit but Rufus ran into his sister.
“Where are you going?” asked Tiger Lily Taylor as she almost blocked the exit.
“Ditching” Rufus replied, trying to get around her.
“I’m telling dad” she sounded like she was 5.
“I’ll pay you 20$”.
“Fine, also who’s your friend” and she pointed straight at Luke.
“Luke Deacon this is my” and he wrapped his arms around Lily “My lovely sister Tiger Lily” and Luke gave a little wave before they left.
As they left Luke snapped a quick pic of the back of Rufus's head, which was now free of the tight bun he had before. He posted it on his Instagram story and captioned it “Blondie Bitch”.
“Where you wanna go?” Rufus asked as they headed towards his car.
“I Don’t know” Luke replied as they approached a car that was probably worth more than his life.
“Wanna get pizza?” he suggested.
“I could eat” and they drove to just a casual pizza place down the road. They were dressed up but they didn't really care.
“Pineapple on pizza?” going straight in with the good questions.
“Hell yeah,” and they got one large pizza and ate in the restaurant.
“This is the best pizza I’ve ever had” Rufus was the kind of person to make a pizza taco, Luke noted that.
“Same here, and I eat a lot of pizza”. It doesn't seem real, going to a movie premiere and then hanging out with your uncle's attractive son. Eating pizza with Rufus Taylor. “I want avocado's” Luke blurted out.
“I love avocados” They looked at each other like they had just found their soul mates.
“I almost chopped my finger off while chopping one” him and Rufus both laughed. “Wouldn’t have been good seeing I play the guitar”.
“You're a musician?” Rufus asked, Luke never mentioned it.
“Yeah, I majored in drama in college but I play guitar and bass” and he grabbed another piece of pizza.
“I play drums, I play with Queen and my other band” Rufus replied.
“I do some solo music but I’m part of a band, I play and also sing”.
“Can I hear something?” and Luke pulled up his band's music (young limbs) on SoundCloud while they shared a pair of earbuds. Rufus was swaying back and forth while he listened. “You have a calming voice, it’s relaxing”.
“You like it?” he was surprised.
“Yah, I love it, it has a nice vibe” he sounded like such a hippie.
“What band do you play in?” Luke asked.
“It's called The Darkness, I play drums, I can’t sing” and they both chuckled.
They stayed in that pizza parlor for about 2 hours talking about anything and everything. It didn’t feel like two hours for Luke or Rufus. They finally snapped out of it when the parlor was closing. It was at 1 AM.
“Crap, it’s late I have to go,” Luke said, getting up
“Me too,” Luke said and was silent for a second “Can I have your phone?” he asked and Luke handed it over. “This is my number, call or text me okay” Luke nodded.
“Bye Rufus” Luke said leaving.
“Bye Luke,” he said with a smile as he left too and saw Luke step into a cab before he could even offer a ride home.
Luke woke up to about 20 different text messages, mostly from Delilah and Cameron.
Girl who’s named after a cat (Delilah Mercury)
Delilah: GET THAT DICK HOE
Luke: FUCK OFF
Luke buried his face in his pillow, he flirted with Rufus Taylor . FUCK. Then he remembered his dad and breakfast and quickly got up.
He wore his favorite comfy sweatshirt and jeans and headed off to his mother and father's house that was a little bit down the road. “Lukey” His mother greeted him with a smile, she was always a great mother.
“Hi, mommy” and he gave his mother a big bear hug and went into the house he grew up in. Same couch he threw up on when he got food poisoning and same carpet when he spilled noodles all over himself. Good times. “Hi Dad” he saw his father reading the paper at the dining table and gave him a hug.
“Morning Luke,” His father said giving him a big hug, he was a really good hugger. His father seemed to be in a good mood. Luke took his seat next to his father where breakfast was already set out in front of him.
“Dad I’m sorry I forgot to call you last night, I was so tired when I got home, I completely forgot”. His dad just nodded and gave a smile.
“It's fine Luke, did you have a good time?” his father asked.
“Yah, I saw uncle Brian, Roger, and Freddie, they said to say hi and that they miss you and you should give them a call”. His father said nothing to that. Freddie was still alive but John still retired in the ’90s and hasn't been in contact with any of them in a while. “I also met Joe, the guy who’s playing you, he’s really nice and looks a lot like you” and Luke took a sip of his tea.
“Meet anyone else?” he asked setting down his paper.
“I mostly hang out with Delilah (Lie) and Rufus (truth)” and his father's ears perked up when he mentioned Rufus.
“Rufus Taylor?” he asked and moved a little closer to Luke.
“Yah” he replied taking a bite of his eggs and his dad let out a little chuckle.
“The Taylor children are crazy, I wouldn’t hang around them if I were you” what the fuck was that supposed to mean? Luke didn't say anything. They talked for the next hour about anything, life and weird things that happened at bingo. Luke enjoyed spending time with his father, he came over every Sunday for dinner and his dad came over to his place often. He had a very close relationship with his father. Luke didn't know why his father had something against the Taylor children.
Luke left when he had band practice and gave his father a big hug before he left. Band practice was going well, they were writing music for the album they wanted to release next year. When they went for lunch Luke pulled out his phone.
Blondie Bitch (Rufus Taylor)
Luke: I don't have anything on Sunday
Luke: I can make it
Rufus: YAY, Delilah and me will pick you up around 7
Luke: Can’t wait
Rufus: Me neither :)
Holy shit this Taylor child was going to be the death of him.
Hope you liked this chapter. If you guys like it i’ll keep posting here on tumblr but I will be updating on Archieve of Our Own. Thank you for reading :)
Every year my hometown had a big block party in the center of town. It was a free all day event consisting of barbeques, swimming, live music, and at the end a huge firework show. And thats where I met Grayson.
Grayson was the love of my life. We met at the block party five years ago after his family moved to town. It was my sophomore year of high school and I was more than ready to find a nice boy in town to go out with but no one in my school really appealed to me. Then Grayson and his twin brother Ethan came to town. They were by far the hottest boys me and my friends had ever seen. I had heard the whispers about them around school and seen the pictures but I hadn’t seen them in person yet. But that year’s block party changed everything.
My friends and I had a tradition of paying the kids who came home to visit from college, to get us a bottle of Malibu rum so we could make mixed drinks for the block party (without our parents knowledge of course). As I was sipping my third Malibu Bay Breeze strolling around the block party looking for my friends, I ran into a solid wall of muscle. As I did, I spilled my entire drink down the front of the person’s shirt. When I looked up I realized it was him. The infamous Grayson Dolan. I was already pretty tipsy but I was sure it was him. “It’s you. Fuck. It’s really you! God damn you’re WAY hotter than Rachel let me believe. Nice work Mr. and Mrs. Dolan!” I said. Grayson let out a deep laugh that seemed to last forever. “Fuck! I said that out loud didn’t I?! Oh I’m really sorry about the shirt. You can take it off if you want. I mean-jesus christ what am I doing?!” I rambled, quickly slapping my hand over my mouth.
By this point Grayson was doubled over with laughter and all I could do was join him. Once we both caught our breath, he slipped his shirt over his head and threw it in the nearest garbage can. His whole body was so beautifully tanned and muscles rippled beneath his skin. When he turned back to me I quickly turned my head and he swiped my cup and chugged the rest of my drink. “Hey!” I shouted. He grinned down at my pouting face. “Mmm. Tastes like coconut. I like coconut. And I think I like you.” He said. I blushed and tried not to grin. Grayson and I made a plan to meet back up at the park later that night for the firework show, and thats exactly what we did.
That night we watched the fireworks and Grayson kissed me for the first time. After that we were together and deeply in love for the rest of high school. Toward the end of our senior year our plans of going to California for college together, were crushed. Grayson’s father got diagnosed with cancer and Gray decided he couldn’t leave. I understood his decision but I tried so hard to convince him that a long distance relationship could work. But he didn’t want that. He claimed he would only hold me back and he didn’t want me to miss out on the college experience. I told him he was a coward for not even trying to make this work. I regretted my words but they were out there. Grayson lashed out and said the worst thing he could have in that moment. His words haunted me every day after that. “Y/N I never really even loved you. At least not how you love me. I kept you around to pass the time. Thats it. You don’t mean as much to me as you think you do. Get out.”  After that I ran from his house and never looked back. I threw everything that reminded me of him in a box and shoved it into my closet. In a few short weeks I had packed up my entire life and was on a plane to California to begin my new life, and I left Grayson and his horrible words behind.
But now I find myself back in my hometown. I had finished college and I was back in town to move back in with my parents until my new house was move-in ready. I was loading the last box into the house when I realized, tonight was the annual block party. I knew my parents would try to guilt me into going but I really didn’t want to. I decided to not even bring the topic up, and take a shower and get ready for a night of drinking wine and watching Harry Potter until I passed out. I grabbed a towel from the hall closet and went to take a shower.
When I went to my room to change I realized that all my clothes were still being shipped from california and wouldn’t arrive until tomorrow. “Shit!” I shouted. “Honey? You okay?” My mom asked from the doorway. “Yeah I’m okay. I just forgot I have no clothes until tomorrow.” I said rummaging through my carry on bag from the plane, finding a pair of leggings but no shirt. “Oh sweetie there's a box in your closet of stuff you left when you left for college. Maybe theres something in there? Hurry up now. I expect to see you at the block party in an hour. No excuses missy.” My mom said with a smile before leaving my room. I went to the closet and pulled out the box. I pulled off the lid and it felt like a punch in the chest. It was my Grayson box and right on top was his sweatshirt I used to wear. Tears pricked at my eyes as I lifted the hoodie and brought it to my nose. It still smelled like him. Unfortunately it was the only piece of clothing in there so it would have to do. I slipped it on and immediately started to cry. It felt like coming home.
If I was going to get through this block party I was going to need some help. I went to the liquor cabinet downstairs and found my mom’s bottle of Malibu rum. Just like old times. I poured it straight with no mixers into a cup with a lid and a reusable straw. I slipped on my nikes and started walking to the block party, cup in hand.
After a few hours of chatting with old friends, it started to get dark and I decided to head home. I couldn’t stay for the fireworks. Fireworks were our thing and even thinking about watching them without Grayson made my heart hurt. I turned to leave and ran into someone’s chest and knocked my glasses off. I bent down to grab them,an apology already spilling from my lips. “Oh! I’m so sorry! I normally am more observ-” My apology was cut short as I looked up. It was Grayson. He was just as beautiful as I remembered. “At least it wasn’t the drink this time.” He said with a soft laugh. I stood there like a deer in headlights. “I-I I think I’m gonna be sick. I gotta go.” I stuttered before I broke off into a sprint in the opposite direction. I didn’t know where I was going, all I knew was I had to get the fuck out of there. The rum in my cup sloshed against the lid and I mentally patted myself on the back for the smart cup choice. I skidded to a stop in the middle of the woods off the edge of the park, taking a big sip of my drink. I heard footsteps behind me and I whirled around to see Grayson walking through the woods right behind me. “Y/N you know you could never outrun me. I don’t even know why you tried.” He chuckled.
“You want to know why I ran?! Because I can’t stand the thought of being near you! I decided to stop breaking my heart over you a long time ago Grayson! You have no idea what the hell it’s like being near the person who told you they never loved you! You destroyed me Grayson and I’ll be damned if I EVER let you do it again!” I screamed, tears running down my face. I launched my cup at the nearest tree and it shattered and fell to the ground. “Jesus! Relax Y/N! You’re acting insane!” Grayson’s voice boomed through the woods. “NO! You don’t get to tell me what to do or how to feel anymore! You did this to me and you’re just mad you have to see what you’ve done! How does it feel seeing the aftermath of what you did? Does it sting? I hope it does but it will never compare to the pain I carry around every day! And you know what the worst part is? I never stopped loving you! Not once! You said you wanted me to have “the full college experience” and guess what? I didn’t even get that because even the thought of someone touching me the way you used to, made me fucking sick! And I know this might seem like me flying off the handle but this is everything I never got to tell you! I never got my chance to speak because you hurled the worst words at me and told me to get out and this is every fucking thing I’ve ever wanted to say to you spilling out at once! I hate you for what you said and I hate you for pushing me away! But the sickest part of it all is I loved you and cared for you so much that I let your words ruin my life! And I hate myself more than I could EVER hate you!” I screamed until my voice was more of a growl than anything. All the angry energy drained out of me and crumpled to my knees in the dirt.
After what felt like hours Grayson finally spoke. “Y/N I want you to know that I’m sorry.” I scoffed at him before he continued. “No I’m serious. Just please hear me out. I never meant what I said to you that night. I just didn’t know what else to do to push you to go to California. It was always your dream and I knew that. But I also knew you loved me so much that you would give it up to stay here with me and I could never live with myself if you did that. So I said some awful things to you so you would leave. It hurt so much to lie to you like that. And it hurt even more that I knew I would never be with you again. But when you left my Dad just kept telling me “Son, you loved her so you let her go. If it’s meant to be, she’ll come back to you.” and I believed that. I had to or I would go insane. So when I saw you tonight I figured this was it, you were coming back to me and I could finally fix everything. And then you ran from me. Thats when I knew I really fucked up. But I swear to you I never meant any of those horrible things. I love you so much.” In the time that Grayson was speaking he had made his way over to me and sat down next to me.
I turned to look at him and I could see it in his eyes that he meant every word. “I love you too Gray. I always have.” I whispered. I rested my head on his shoulder. “I never would have said those things if I knew you would always be hurting like this.” He said in a hushed voice. “Will you give me another chance? I swear I will spend every day for the rest of my life making up for the pain I caused you.” Grayson asked, taking my hand in his. Overhead the fireworks had just begun. “Fireworks were always our thing. I think thats the universe telling me to take a chance on you.” I said, looking into his eyes. “Is that a yes?” He whispered. “Yes Grayson. I’ll give you a second chance.” I murmured.
Grayson’s face lit up and he smiled wider than I had ever seen. He leaned forward and kissed me. After the kiss he rested his forehead on mine and smiled as he said “Tastes like coconut. I like coconut. And I love you.”
I’m Back Like Herpes
Let me start off by saying how deeply and sincerely apologetic I am for leaving you all so suddenly without so much as a "brb." I'm sure you've thought of me, summoning my witty repartee during your longest of mid-day work shits. Where have I been you may ask? Well back in Mid-September a former West Coast co-worker approached me about joining her team as a remote part time video producer  – which I obviously jumped on faster than a 47-year-old bottle blonde divorcee clad in Victoria's Secret PINK at a Thunder Down Under show that just asked for participants to join them on stage. Between my full-time marketing gig, and the additional 15-hours a week pumping out viral unicorn/millennial pink/glitter hair parts/J. Law and Emma Stone is our spirit animal BFF goals content, I barely have time for my CSI marathon Wednesdays on Oxygen, let alone time to complain about men and old people, young people, and everything else in-between.
Professional progress aside, my BFF and I are living in a 2nd story suite owned by a kind older couple that only watches period dramas on BBC with full volume because they can't understand the accents, but instead of turning on closed captioning they just jack up the sound. AKA still living at my parents' house with my cat, and I purchased a truly life changing Amazon Fire Stick to combat the sound of Harry Potter rejects going on walks in the rain. Apparently every road in the UK in unpaved and the kitten heel trend is alive and well.
Oh, and I have a boyfriend. No assholes, it's not "too soon." I didn’t try to nail down the first dude I met back home for some guaranteed trips to Olive Garden so I could slink back into my comfort zone of wearing oversized sweatshirts as lingerie. Prior to my darling PharmD I went on an alarming number of first dates, and a truly surprising number of second dates. I'm not a fan of Yankees fans, or people whose advice on being single is, "fall back in love with yourself first, you know, really figure out what you want, focus on you, stay busy, pick up a hobby." Sweet strangers, I love me. I never stopped loving me. My relationship with myself has always been, and probably will always be, my priority. How I feel about myself sets the stage for how I feel about everyone, and everything else. Plus I have no free time and more blank adult coloring books than connections on LinkedIn, and I accept everybody. Oh the joys of being annoyingly self-aware.
I wholeheartedly believe when it comes to dating the only way to figure out what you want in a partner is to figure out what you don't want. Process of elimination. How do I know I don't want a boyfriend who wears a handmade necklace made from the teeth of his dead dog? Because I went out with him. Live and learn. I also dated a divorced firefighter, a Jewish Repblicanish lawyer, a classic rock loving lamp-builder, the older brother of a girl I went to high school with whom I had to bail out of jail (him, not her - she's a lawyer, ironically enough), a guy who called me "aggressive and not flirty" to my face but still kissed me, a baseball coach with a New York? accent despite having never been there, and a carless cat owner– just to name a few. Throw enough shit at the wall and eventually something's gonna stick. If this boyfriend happens to be the one that sticks, that’s awesome. If it doesn't, I'll be okay then too.
To the men of 2017, the shit you put me through - the shit I put you through - each and every one of you deserve your own posts. I learned a lot about what I want, what I deserve in a relationship, and a hell of a lot about what I don't want. Unfortunately my insane work schedule does not allow much time for creative writing aside from captioning videos about thicc AF puppys. I In fact the only reason I have time to write this longer than intended update is because I'm on an Amtrak on my way to Chicago for my sister's 25th birthday and I forgot to download the iTunes "Girls Trip" rental I purchased before hopping aboard. Won't make that mistake again on my way home Sunday. That's all for now hot dogs and tacos. Until next time.
PS. I'll try not to ghost you again, I know how shitty that feels. ISN'T THAT RIGHT, ADAM.
Renji’s all impressed that the prep-school skinny-jeans guy very successfully punched a dude, and Byakuya’s all “yes, I too am honestly shocked that went so well” Rukia: I hit a guy in the throat with a wrench! Be impressed! Renji: yes but I EXPECT it from YOU Canary06/15/2020 Although in modern AU none of them are actually much good at fighting. Renji thinks he is, but it’s “teenager who keeps telling you how he’s totally been in a bunch of street fights you guys” good Rukia’s the best since, not being v physically intimidating, she already had a “run up while they’re not looking and stab real hard” approach to fighting, which is their best shot at success when up against actual trained shinigami sword-people BRG06/15/2020 Yes, incredibly good. What's Ichigo like? Canary06/15/2020 I picture this in the “Rukia is a regular teenager and Ichigo is the shinigami who crashes into her life” swap AU so he’s presumably yelling How To Use Your Magic Sword instructions from the sidelines Sleeping in the coat closet Wearing skinny jeans and a Karakura University sweatshirt which Byakuya does not want back, thanks Eventually his fellow shinigami show up to fetch him; Kurosaki-papa’s much less fatalistic and depressed than Byakuya was so I imagine his approach is more “come on, kid, you gotta come back so I can start talking everyone down over here”, genuinely thinking he has enough pull in Soul Society that he could put a stop to the whole ‘execution’ thing BRG06/15/2020 Aww. That's really cute and disastrous and I'm much happier for them as a family. Canary06/15/2020 ...ofc it’s gonna hit Kurosaki-papa pretty hard as he realizes that he badly overestimated his ability to put the brakes on this situation. and he’s the one who dragged Ichigo back, telling him everything would be fine! Fortunately the plot proceeds as before and Rukia will be along shortly Ichigo: aw, you guys came to rescue me? Rukia: Yes! Renji: For sure! Byakuya: I’m really more here to rescue the two of them. Also you owe me coat-closet rent and I want that sweatshirt back after all
Lol, possibly someday, but it doesn’t really have any story or plot or ending to it yet. it barely even has scenes, it’s more of an explanatory “here’s how characters so-and-so would work” post in nature [4:04 PM] For instance I have worked out the Kuchiki situation in some detail (they’re half-siblings about five years apart; Byakuya’s mom was grudgingly willing to look after her husband’s illegitimate daughter but was unenthusiastic enough about it that when Byakuya moved out at 18, everyone was happy for Rukia to slide on out the door with him) [4:05 PM] But I don’t have any actual, like, story to write about that, I just know how it happened [4:07 PM] (I figure they met when Rukia’s mom died - Rukia was 7-8 and Byakuya was 11-12 at the time, and he was instantly like “Family responsibility! That’s my favorite thing!” and latched on to the idea of being an older brother- dude was kind of a lonely kid- while Rukia instantly clocked him as her best potential ally in the scary new rich-people world, and also as a kid who clearly just needed someone to hang out with. And so it went)
BRG06/15/2020 (I haven't seen much JoJo. Isn't that exactly how it didn't begin?)
Canary06/15/2020 Lmao, it’s not unlike now you mention it! Although Dio Brando got adopted in as a result of a family debt, and was not actually an illegitimate connection [4:10 PM] Also Rukia’s less, you know, supervillain
BRG06/15/2020 As far as we know, yeah.
Canary06/15/2020 Also most of Ichigo’s friends from canon wind up being shinigami in the AU. Not everyone corresponds neatly to one other character, but for instance AU-Chad is basically a very chill Kenpachi. Staring down at teeny-tiny Rukia with her comically enormous sword like “......hm. ......so you wanna fight or what” Rukia absolutely wants to fight I’m turning most of Ichigo’s friends into captains but I’m pretty sure Ichigo himself was only like a lieutenant. Vice-captain. Whatever Renji is BRG06/15/2020 Excellent, goodgood What if What if Kenpachi isn't Chad What if Kenpachi is Orihime What if Kenpachi is Ichigo's sister Karin Canary06/15/2020 Orihime is already more or less Renji! But I guess she could also be Kenpachi Definitely one of the sisters is a captain - if they let Hitsugaya do it, why not, right Probably Karin is a captain and the other one, Yuzu? is her lieutenant I don’t think Ishida is anybody specific, but he’s also there, with some kind of bow-and-arrow-themed sword. Possibly he’s an undercover Quincy who hasn’t reported back to Quincy HQ in so long that he has actually just kind of defected? I’d work it out if I were more interested in the political drama side I say Orihime is Renji, but she’s def captain-rank herself, but she’s also the one who tags along with his dad to come pick him up, and is the first shinigami to join Team Let’s Not Get Anybody Executed
Canary06/21/2020 Also forgot to mention Renji’s background in the modern AU: I imagine he and Rukia were childhood buddies, who lost touch in elementary school when Rukia got scooped up by the Kuchikis, and when Byakuya and Rukia got out of their parents’ house and moved halfway across the city, she ran into Renji again. And now they are pals again! Also his home life is terrible in some unspecified way so he basically lives on their fold-out couch and nobody says anything about it. He probably has a crush on one of them, but I’m not sure which. Possibly Renji isn’t sure which
North Dakota- a tale of unreasonable plot and bad jokes by two seventh graders
Prologue
Once upon a time there was a leprechaun named Dakota. He ruled the land of Dakota. But, sadly enough, he was lonely. So, one day he went out in search for a wife. In all the land he searched, he could not find a leprechaun suitable for a wife. So he thought to himself “what shall i do?” Then he realized the perfect explanation- find a human. This would take time because all of the humans lived in Indiana, which was miles away. So, he hopped onto his pet pegasus, poopsie, and flew to Indiana. When he arrived, there were many fair maidens, but they were not attracted to the short and stubby red headed freak! But then came Sydney. She had brown hair, brown eyes, and wore sweatpants and sweatshirts (even when it was 200 degrees outside). He knew this had to be her, so he asked her to ride back with him to the land of Dakota and live with him. She said “Sure.” No other human had ever been in the land of Dakota, they weren’t allowed, unless given permission by the royal court, which consisted of the goblin king’s (Kayli and Angelina), the giant king (Zander), the wizard king (Julian), the Fairy queen (Xayla) , and ,of course, the emperor of them all, The leprechaun Dakota. So, when Sydney saw everything she was amazed. So when she flew over the goblin territory she almost peed her pants. She saw condos and apartments and just plain regular houses. Then she saw the most beautiful mansion she had ever seen! Then Dakota said ”this is the goblins territory. I would steer clear of the gremlins that slave there if I were you. They are kind of sassy and the gremlin slaves will eat just about anything, including you, because the goblins don’t feed them, they won a territory war long ago.” Sydney looked down in shock, she couldn’t believe that a place that looked as fine as that could consist of such imbecilic creatures like the gremlins. The gremlin king, who lost the war, was named blake. He used to eat his boogers and and gross stuff like that, until he was killed by a brave goblin warrior durring the war. Now, they live off of boogers and the occasional rat or mouse that scurries by. Now She was in the emperor’s territory, were all the leprechauns lived. Far and wide, all she saw was green. Green green green green. Then they went into Dakota’s Castle to be married right away. The had a great marriage for 5 years, and then Dakota decided that his wife needed her own space. So, he split the land in half and called his half North Dakota and her half South Dakota. On Dakota’s side was the giant kingdom in the clouds and the wizard kingdom. On Sydney’s side was the fairy kingdom and the goblin kingdom. They lived happily for another 5 years, and when they had their 10 year anniversary is when this story takes place.
Chapter 1
Angelina, the goblin king, climbed the the tall golden staircase that led to the giant kingdom. She was going to see her boyfriend Zander, the giant king. And I also know what you are thinking- why is she referred to as a king if she is a girl? Well, the goblin royalties, two girl best friends, insisted upon being called kings, so Emperor Dakota let them be and declared them the kings of Goblandia.
As she climbed, it seemed like hours before she heard the booming voice of her boyfriend, Zander. “Where is Angelina! I told her to be here 30 minutes ago! Did you send that pegasus for her Spider Mc Spider?!” he yelled. “Oh, no. Sorry Zander.” replied Spider Mc Spider. She was a friend more than a maid. Then finally, Angelina reached the top of the stair case. “I’m right here,” she said, exasperated from the long walk up the stairs. “Finally you’re here. My maid was supposed to send one of the pegasus from the stable, but she forgot. You know how Spider Mc Spider gets sometimes,” he said reaching down his hand.
Zander picked Angelina up and held her to his eye level and said, “I have a present for you!” Angelina was excited to find out what it was. “Well, what is it.”She asked. “You’ll have to wait and find out,” Zander said. That made Angelina Furious! “I WANNA KNOW NOW!” she screamed. “Calm down” Zander said patiently. He loved even when she screamed. Plus he thought she was HOT when she was mad. She stomped her small little feet in defiance. She was enraged! How could he just tell her that he had a gift for her and then not give it to her? “Calm down it’s a long flight there”, he said softly. “you know I hate flying.”She stated.
Chapter 2
The wizard kingdom was constantly busy. There was always merchants on the streets, kids practicing their magic they had learnt at school, and small battles going on to test who was the better wizard. The ruler, Julian, was sitting in his tower watching over his bustling city. His servants Ashton the Walrus and Nate the Tom hovered in the room, like always, waiting to be addressed. Then He spoke,”Fetch me the necklace, they should be arriving anytime now.”
They were confused for a split second and then were gone. Three seconds later they arrived again. They were holding the most beautiful wooden box you had ever seen. The necklace had a row of four raindrop shaped light blue diamonds. Below that it had thin a row of dark blue diamonds. It had to be the most beautiful necklace in all of North Dakota. Julian knew the necklace wouldn’t fail to impress.
As Julian had predicted, Zander showed up with his girlfriend Angelina. Zander was wearing the ring Julian had made him 2 years prior. All it seemed at first sight was that it was an everyday gold band. But what it truly was, was a ring that made him the size of any human. Zander walked forward and reached out for the wood box. Julian quickly pulled it away and stated,“not until you fulfill your end off the deal.” Zander pulled out a bag full of all kinds of treasures and slings it on the table. “Now give me the necklace!” he exclaimed.
Julian handed him the wooden box. Zander put it in his pocket and said thank you. Then he walked out of the door.
Chapter 3
Zander and Angelina finally reached the giant kingdom. When they got to have time to themselves in zanders castle. Zander handed Angelina the necklace and said,“happy anniversary!” Her eyes widened as she asked, “what?”
Zander said, “Our anniversary!” he belched, “Don’t you remember?”
“No,” she confessed. “I forgot.”
Zander didn’t get angry with her. He sweetly put the necklace on her anyway. When the clip snapped shut Angelina began to grow. And she grew a lot! In a matter of 5 seconds she had gone from a little goblin to a giant goblin! She was in so much shock that she fell but right before she hit the ground Zander caught her. She looked at her hands, and then her feet… and then at zander. She was so scared that she quickly took off the necklace and ran back to the goblin kingdom. “SPIDER MC SPIDER” screeched zander. “YOU TOLD ME SHE WOULD LIKE THIS NECKLACE! ”
“She will zander just give her time to adjust to it”, said spider.
Angelina was already halfway home before she even began to think about what happened. She would just have to talk to Kayli about it.
When she arrived home Kayli was on her bed rolling. “What are you doing?” asked Angelina She then replied “I’m becoming a burrito!” Kayli was a weird goblin. That’s probably why she was one of the king’s friends, Dakota had a tendency to make weird friends.
Angelina told Kayli everything that happened. Kayli looked at her in shock, and then burst out with laughter. “All you ever wanted was to be tall so you could be with zander! And you ran out of there! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.” Angelina felt like a stupid gremlin for acting like that when Zander gave her that gift. After all, Kayli was right- that was all she had ever wanted. She had to make it up to Zander, but how?
Chapter 4
Xayla, the fairy queen, sat at her throne. She was waiting for a very good friend to arrive. Or should I say friends, i’m really not sure. But, she (or they) were taking forever. Then, finally, the doors to her palace opened. In stepped a beautiful white unicorn with two heads.
“Finally you’re here!” Xayla said.
“Well, someone decided it was a good idea to to take the long way around.” said the left head.
“Well sorry, but it’s not my fault you trusted me, you know i have a bad sense in direction!” said the right head
Paige was the left head and Wendy was the right. They were cursed by an evil witch and now they have to be together 24/7. They really never get tired of each other just a little frustrated.
“So, what’s the current drama?” Xayla asked. She was all about drama.
“So apparently the Giant King, Zander, got Angelina, one of the goblin King’s, a necklace for their 2 year anniversary and it made her as big as him when she put it on and she freaked out and ran away!”Paige said.
“And the Wizard King Julian, made it. And I guess Zander paid him a lot of money for it.” Said Wendy.
“OMG! Really? This is really big news!” Xayla said. “The emperor’s 10th annual anniversary ball is going to be so much fun with all of this drama going about! Speaking of which, I had better start getting ready, it starts in two hours!”
She started getting ready with the help of the other fairies she was done in an easy hour. She had on her favorite purple ball gown and. She just loved public gatherings, especially when there’s drama. She headed out of the palace doors with Emily, a small pixy who happens to be Sydney’s best friend. They rode on Xayla’s Unicorn to the goblin kingdom. There they picked up the goblin King’s Kayli and Angelina. Then they set off to the palace.
Right there is the Leprechaun Community and palace, were the ball was being held. He had a green castle, of course. And this was the only place where you could see a triple rainbow. It truly was a very pretty place if you could get past all of the tiny red headed grumps running around with their pots of gold. They entered the castle door. What they found was a hallway of pictures. All of them were of The past king’s-on the left- and the past queens- on the right. It was funny to look at the right side, because all of the past queens were leprechauns. And then you had Sydney. Sydney was the opposite of a leprechaun. She had brown hair and eyes-leprechauns have red hair and green eyes. Plus she was tall. She towered over her king because while she was five foot three, he was a lousy three foot five. Thats a big difference.
The ball itself was very fun. Xayla continued to gossip with Paige & Wendy, and with the goblin king’s. Kayli had some juicy gossip. Usually Angelina would join in on their antics, but she seemed to be in a whole nother world all together. She stared at the door and seemed to be awaiting somebody. But how could she be waiting for someone? Everyone’s already here Xayla thought Let’s see. Me, her and Kayli, Julian, Dakota and Sydney, and Zand- Wait a second! Zander was nowhere in sight. And he could go into the palace as long as he had on his ring! So, where was he? Maybe the rumors were true! “Angelina, where’s Zander?” Asked Xayla.
“I don’t know,” Said Angelina,“I just don’t know.”
Then, at the worst possible time, Zander bust through the door. He went straight to Angelina and said- “We need to talk.” All Angelina could say was, “Yes, we do.”
They went into the back room and started talking. When they came back out, Angelina was wearing a very beautiful necklace. She stated, “The necklace only makes me big when I want to be.” Then Dakota Made an announcement. “ Sydney and me are having a baby!” Everyone was quiet until Kayli threw up all over the floor. “Whyyyyyyyyy!?!?!” She yelled.
“ I’m not sure how, since she is a human.” Dakota stated.
Kayli passed out. Angelina fell again and this time Zander doesn’t catch her so she landed right on Kayli. How was she and Angelina supposed to overrule Dakota if there was a baby in the way? She would have to think of something fast. How about kill the baby she thought. They knew that was the only possible answer if they were going to be able to overthrow the Emperor.
Chapter 5
“How are we gonna kill that little gremlin?”
“ To be honest I don’t know!”
“How about shoving it off a cliff? We can make it look like an accident!”
“No, How about poison its bottle?”
“ Nah, that’s too cliche. Think of something that they’ll never see coming.”
“We could put a snake in its crib!”
“No, i’m afraid of snakes!”
“How about we kidnap it and put it in the dungeon until we can figure out what to do with it.”
“Oh yes!”
“They won’t be able to defend themselves with their precious baby missing.”
The goblin kings were discussing about what to do to Sydney’s and Dakotas baby, and they had decided the perfect plan.
Chapter 6 (8 Months Later)
“PUSH!!!” yelled Xayla. “You have to get that baby out of you!”
Sydney had been giving birth for 1 minute. Everyone was there, including the goblin king’s. Sydney gave one last push and the baby came out. It was a weird baby. But is was also a cute baby.
“Her name shall be Ella.” Sydney stated
“It’s a boy.” Stated Kayli.
“Then his name shall be Hudson.” said Dakota.
“I will put the baby in its crib,” said Angelina as she and Kayli rushed out of the door with the baby in their hands. They Ran out of the door of his castle and hijacked Xayla’s Unicorn. They rode all the way back to their Mansion without stopping. When they got there they put Hudson in the dungeon. “Wait!” Said kayli “The baby has to have nourishment or he will die and that will ruin our plans.” “Oh yes!” Angelina said, I forgot about that.” “Hmm we must feed Hudson somehow” Said kayli. There was no baby food powder in North and south Dakota, for the magical babies didn’t need nourishment. But since Hudson was half human he did. “How we gonna feed this gremlin?” Angelina asked angrily. “He isn’t a gremlin” said Kayli . “Don’t get attached” Angelina snapped. “I’M NOT” Kayli shot back.
Chapter 7
Zander sent a pegasus for Angelina. Once she was there his face lit up. “I have something to tell you.” She said. “What is it?” he asked She explained everything about stealing the baby and trying to overthrow Dakota. Dakota was his best friend so, he was torn between the two and told her he needed time to think.
Meanwhile back at the green castle Sydney and Dakota were devastated, but they blamed no one but themselves. They couldn’t believe on the flight home with the goblins, the baby had fell of the unicorn. They held a funeral and everyone attended, even the goblin kings. The next day Zander had made his decision he was going to help Angelina since he loved her so. He sent spider to get her and spider returned with a sickly looking goblin. “ What happened?” Asked zander. “She’s just a little sick doofus” said spider. “Angelina” said zander I’ve decided that I’m going to help you overthrow Dakota and Sydney. “Great” Angelina said quietly. “Why are you so quiet?” asked Zander. As soon as he finished his sentence she collapsed. Zander started to freak out. “Someone get her an ambulance” he began to cry, then he noticed that she was beginning to lose her green color. “Why?” He shouted. He knew there would only be one explanation for this.
The wizard poisoned the necklace.
Chapter 8
While the wizard Julian was making a spell, Zander barged in with Angelina in his arms she was unconscious. “You did this!” he yelled. “Wizards can see into the future, I wasn’t gonna let you guys overthrow Dakota.” Zanders face reddened. “Fix her now” he couldn’t help but cry. Julian gave Zander the antidote. Just then zander threw a potion of poison at Julian and killed him. “ I bet you didn’t see that coming” Zander snarked. As he gave Angelina the antidote she appeared no better so he took her to kayli.
But what they didn’t know was that walrus and the Tom knew he was going to die, and now walrus was going to follow through with his master’s evil plan.
Now, as Zander raced to Angelina’s mansion with her in his arms, Zander couldn’t help but cry. What if she doesn’t wake up? He thought to himself. I would wait my whole lifetime for her. When he arrived he noticed that two unicorns were in the front yard. He barged into the door and quickly ran downstairs were the cellar is kept. Down there he found Xayla and Kayli teaching the baby how to walk (leprechauns, believe it or not, grow at an increasingly fast rate until they reach the age of 4, which by then they are done growing). Xayla was making goofy faces and Kayli was saying something along the lines of, “Agoogooogabopoopogogaaahhgo.” It was sickening to Zander.
“ How can you do that when Angelina’s dying?!” Kayli looked over in shock and let out a horrible sounding gasp. She had tears filling her eyes. Xayla already had a tear rolling down her cheek. It was all so quiet now, even the baby had stopped gogoing. Zander laid Angelina down on on the cellar floor as everyone gathered around her. She was barely breathing and was still loosing her green tone. This couldn’t be happening!
“Do you think it’s…” Zander asked.
“That’s the only thing it could be,” Stated Xayla.
“This can’t be happening right now!” Kayli cried.
“I’m sorry Zander, but Angelina’s becoming human.” Xayla said.
“Does this mean she’s going to have to leave North and south dakota?” asked Zander.
“No, she won’t leave, because nobody is going to know about this. We will keep it a secret and everything will be alright! Right?”Asked Kayli.
“We can just paint her green” said Zander
“I’m afraid it doesn’t work like that. We will have to be on the lookout for Walrus and Tom. They will want to achieve vengeance for their king. Plus, now technically Walrus is king wizard. So we will have to watch out for his new dark magic.” Said Xayla.
“What little magic us goblins have, and the magic you have, xayla, we should be able to protect ourselves.” Said Kayli.
“I will put up a forcefield around the goblin and fairy kingdoms. I don’t want them messing with my pixie and fairy population. Plus they would probably kill some of my unicorns!” So she left with her unicorn to get some of the best fairies in the land to help her do this forcefield thing, it would be tough but worth it.
Chapter 9
As Xayla and her fairies built the forcefield, Angelina had lost all her green. Zander was still sitting there with kayli they were both crying. She barely looks the same. She was the most beautiful human you’ve even seen. Then she awoke. She looked at her hands then her feet. Her new green eyes widened in shock. Then she screamed, all of North and south Dakota heard it. Zander and Kayli jump to hug her. “WHY AM I HUMAN?” She asked as she began to cry, which made Zander begin to cry again because he cries when she cries.
“The wizard king put a spell on your necklace because he knew were were trying to overthrow Dakota. And when you put it on it poisoned you.” Zander weeped.
Angelina got up and looked in the mirror. “I don’t even know who I am anymore. Am I even allowed to stay here anymore? Does anyone even know about this? I have freckles, my hair is golden, my eyes are green, and…… her voice trailed off I’m not green.” She dropped to her knees.
“No one can know your human, or that you are still here” said Zander. “How could this happen to me?” . Kayli explained to her that Xayla was building a force field.
CHAPTER 10
Dakota and Sydney thought long and hard about this. They wanted it to be perfect.They were going to make North and South Dakota, just Dakota again. They were gonna put a big dome over it so no one could get in or out. They called everyone the the palace for a meeting. Once everyone was there,(but Angelina) They announced what was happening. Kayli threw up once again. “We want Dakota to be safer since the loss of our child” Sydney weeped.”You mean North and South Dakota right? Everything going to be Alright. Right” asked Kayli
Right then Angelina barged through the door with a box in her hand. She wasn’t even green! She was human! She threw the box at Sydney and yelled , “ Take your stupid child! I can’t stand this thing!” Kayli dropped to the floor and yelled,“NOOOOOOO! THAT’S MY CHILD!!!!! GIVE HUDSON BACK!!!! AHHHHHHHH!” Kayli then had a heart attack. Zander took his wring off he picked Angelina, Kayli, and Xayla up and ran off to his castle.
Just Visiting - Allison Argent
The flats of my shoes were silent on the concrete sidewalk, but every once in awhile the heel of the right shoe would slip slightly off my foot and make a soft pat on the ground as I walked.  But as soon as I stepped I was settled back into the blue shoe and would be silently walking again.
 The only noise came from the bouquet of white lilies wrapped in plastic that I was carrying with me.  I knew she’d love them, they were her favorite.  Oh, how she would smile when I surprised her with one every once in awhile.  I know that it made her happy, like a small glimmer of hope that her day would have something good in it.  A small ray of sunshine, a small smile that turned into a grin when I’d give it to her.
 When I reached her after the somewhat short walk, I smiled and set them down next to her.
 “I saw these in the store today and knew I had to get them for you.  A whole bouquet this time I know” I giggled and sat on my knees across from her.  It was a beautiful sunny day, and the grass was warm on my bare legs.  The perfect weather for shorts and a tee shirt.  Made me think of past summers.
“Come on, let’s go to the beach today” I prompted.  But she gave me a look from where she sat on the couch, a book in her lap.
“I much prefer the air conditioning and To Kill A Mockingbird” She said, already going back to her reading.
“Allison” I whined.  “Come on, we have to go outside at some point it’s so beautiful out” I begged.  I knew she couldn’t resist my pleading for long.  We stared each other down until I stuck out my lip and gave her puppy dog eyes.
 “Ugh… fine.  Go get your swimsuit” She groaned.  I threw my arms up in vistory and sprinted up the stairs as quickly as I could, already peeling off my shirt and unbuttoning my shorts.
 We spent the whole rest of the day in the sun, building crappy sandcastles and finding shells in the water.  Both of us in our bikinis and sunglasses, just enjoying our summer before junior year.  There was no supernatural troubles, no Scott troubles, no drama at all.  It was nice.  Everything with Allison was nice.
But she was my best friend.
“FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!” Lydia squealed as she ran up to me in the hall.  I groaned as she looked over my chosen outfit.  A simple white dress and blue cardigan paired with black converse.  I didn’t think she’d let it pass, seeing that it was somewhat simple.  But she grinned and clapped her hands together three times.  “You look great!”
“It’s… so… early” I said, wishing I could rub the sleepiness out of my eyes, but I had put on makeup this morning.  Lydia waved a dismissive hand.
 “Come on, come see Allison she looks absolutely amazing” I nodded, knowing she was definitely right, and I hadn’t even seen her yet.  Lydia guided me through the busy halls to Allison who was at her locker, organizing her books and folders.  I smiled instantly upon seeing her, carefully pulling the flower out of my bag.  Allison turned to me and grinned.  She did look gorgeous.  In a flower designed skirt and light denim buttoned up that was tied just above the skirt’s hem.
“y/n! Awe thanks, you look so cute!” She took the flower and gave me her angelic smile.
 “Me? You look amazing as always” I blushed as she laughed.
 We all got our group selfies taken, putting them on our stories and on insta, proud of what we’d pulled together.  Knowing that tomorrow, we’d be in jeans and a sweatshirt.  Well, Allison and I would.  Lydia would probably be in another elegant look.
When we’d finished our red carpet celebration, Allison linked her arm through mine and we went off to homeroom.  Lucky for me she didn’t have super hearing, so she couldn’t hear my heartbeat skyrocketing.
 Isaac Lahey.  She had to go and tell me she thought she was falling for Isaac Lahey.
I mean, Isaac!? Of all people? What has he done besides try to kill us? Ruin all of our plans? Wear scarfs in fucking seventy degrees weather I.  Mean.  Come.  ON.  What’s so great about him? He can’t even play lacrosse without losing it and trying to beat up an player who runs in front of him.
But when she asked if it was wrong, I shook my head.  When she asked if I thought Scott would be mad, I said no.  When she asked if I was okay with it…
I told her ‘of course’.
She was my best friend.
A month of her making heart eyes to Isaac passed and I couldn’t take it anymore.  I just couldn’t.  So, like the fool and reckless person I was, I walked myself to her apartment.  I don’t know why I didn’t drive, I had my own car.  But I was somewhat glad because it burnt off a lot of steam and anger for me to power walk halfway across town to her complex.  I didn’t even take the elevator, just ran up the stairs two at a time.  And when I stormed down the hallway and knocked rapidly at the door, I blanked.  IN the two seconds Allison opened it and stared at me.
“y/n? You look upset are you-”
 “No I’m not fucking okay!” In seconds all my emotions came back to me in a slam.  “I’m not okay! Allison God why- why are you so blind!?” Her brows raised.
“Blind?”
“Yes!” I ran my hands through my hair stressfully.  Allison seemed shocked, and confused, but I didn’t really care at the moment.  I just needed this weight off of my chest.  “Allison, I have been in love with you for the past year and a half! And I can’t stand to keep on watching you throw yourself into the wrong guy’s arms!”
If she wasn’t surprised before, she definitely was now.  Her eyes were big and wide, jaw slacked, hands fallen from where she’d set them on the doorway.
“y-y/n” She stumbled over my name as she stared at me.  I already knew what was coming next, so I don’t know why I bothered to stick around and wait for the pain of rejection.  “I-I’m not… I don’t…. y/n you’re my best friend” It shows just how foolish I truly am, since I stayed standing in front of her.  “I don’t like… I’m sorry I like guys, I’m sorry y/n you’re amazing, and I love you, and I love who you are just… just not like that”
I took a step backwards.
 “y/n I’m-”
“No, no don’t say you’re sorry” I shrugged off my backpack, unzipping it.
“But I am, I hurt you-” I yanked out a white lily, throwing it onto the ground at her feet.  Allison paused, staring down at it, then looking up at me again.
“You hurt me because you’re a fucking liar” I spat.  She flinched.  “You stay in the closet as long as you want Allison Argent, but I know you better than anybody.  I just didn’t think you’d lie to me of all people about it” Allison’s eyes watered and she stepped towards me, but I’d already closed up my bag and stepped further away.  “Thanks for your time” I said quietly, walking down the hall and to the elevator.
As the doors closed, I saw her come out, and pick up the flower.  She stared down at it, and looked up right as they shut, and I was descending.
She was my best friend.
“I wronged you in a lot of ways Allison” I said gently, not sure how to start my conversation.  I played with the grass in my fingers.  “And that’s not what you do to the people you love, you know?” I sighed.  “I just wanted to say I’m sorry.  I’m sorry I said what I said, and I’m sorry I was such a bitch about it”
I took in a deep breath as my eyes began to water.
“I’m just.. I’m sorry.  I’m sorry”
“y/n? y/n did you hear me?”
 The officer stood in front of me tonight kept saying my name, tapping his pencil impatiently on the pad of paper.
“I-I’m sorry can you repeat the question?” I asked, one arm wrapped around myself, the other hooked up so I could run my necklace between my fingers.
“I said, did you see who happened to have done this?” He repeated slowly.
“Uh-uh no” I stuttered.  “No, no I got here- I-I was too late” I was supposed to be crying, why wasn’t I crying? That’s what you’re supposed to do right? Sob uncontrollably? Let it all out? But I couldn’t.
I looked away from the man, eyes landing on Scott McCall.  He looked devastated, eyes bloodshot, tears all over him.  Blood all over him.  But at least he got a goodbye.  He got to hear he was loved, he got to hold on for just a few more moments.
But me? I showed up thirty seconds too late.  Holding Lydia and Stiles up.  Both of them had tried to hide the scene form me as Scott sobbed and begged for sewn shut eyes to open.  But it was too late, I’d already seen.
Why didn’t I get a goodbye? Why did Scott get a goodbye you may ask?
Well the answer is simple and painful.  I didn’t deserve one.  I didn’t deserve a goodbye.  I hurt her, the last time I saw her.  I hurt her and screamed at her.  I made her cry, I put my heart on the line and took it back instantly.  I made the biggest mistake of my life leaving that night.  Not speaking to her again.  Not even acknowledging her presence.
And now I’d never get to apologize to her.
She was my best friend.
 Tears fell onto my cheeks, finally letting out tears I hadn’t been able to until now.  It’s been a whole year, today marking the anniversary.  But every time I’d thought about it, I just froze, no tears, not even a frown.  Just a blank expression, and a dropping heart.
“Thank you for letting me visit you today” I whispered.  “Thank you for everything… I love you” I bowed down my heard, tears falling into the grass.  “I love you” I repeated.  “You, you are the greatest thing to ever happen to me, and I’ll never take you for granted again.
I stood up, and with a final goodbye, grazed my fingers over the words etched into the marble stone.
With the beginning of August, and Hamilton’s Broadway debut closing in, Lin wasted no time slaving away, spending time to perfect the show down to the very last detail.
When he wasn’t caught up in Hamilton, his efforts shifted to being a better father and whatever that may have entailed. This week, it was tireless research on immunodeficiency. After nearly a month of having Alexa as a part of their family, he seemed to know virtually nothing about her disease. Since Vanessa was usually at work for more than fifty hours a week (not including the time she spent working at home), he was the only guardian around her most of the time. If something went wrong, being as clueless as he was would not be helpful.
It was Saturday evening when he was particularly caught up in research, his understudy Javier Muñoz set to perform that night in his place. Sebastian was already asleep, Vanessa was at work in her office.
Alexa joined him silently in the living room, a sweatshirt and leggings on, wrapped in a blanket. Her phone was in one hand, a pair of headphones attached and keeping her attention, a small blue device with a large syringe on top in the other. There was a tube attached to the device that vanished underneath her sweatshirt. She sat on the far end of the couch, Lin across the room on the loveseat.
“What are you watching?” he asked, loud enough for her to hear through the headphones. She pulled one aside.
“Oh, um, I’m just going through my cue on Netflix. I found this show called The West Wing. It looks pretty good but I’m only about two episodes in—what?” Alexa paused when she saw Lin’s face change into an excited smile.
“You do know that’s my favorite show of all time, right?” he told her, setting his laptop aside in search of the remote for their smart TV. “What part are you at? We should watch it together.”
“Oh no, it’s fine.” she insisted. “Don’t let me stop you from… whatever you were doing.”
“I can multitask, I was just researching your immunodeficiency.”
“Why would you do that?” she demanded, glancing down at the machine attached to her, confused if not shocked by the gesture.
“Because I care.” he reminded her.
“You mean unlike every other foster parent I’ve ever had?”
“Exactly.” he smiled. “You can make fun of me all you want for being proud of that, but I am.”
Alexa couldn’t help but smile. “Just turn on the show so I don’t have to hear you brag about it.”
-
They had managed to make it through five more episodes of the show before Alexa’s treatment had finished, though a few unwanted side-effects had already kicked in.
“One more?” Lin asked as Netflix cued up the next episode to run in twenty seconds.
There was no response. He glanced over at his daughter to see that her eyes were still open though she chose not to respond. She was curled up in the blanket, shivering every so often.
“Lex?” he asked again, moving closer to her. “Are you okay?”
She groaned, squeezing her eyes shut as she shook her head in response.
“What’s wrong?”
“I fucked something up.” she finally said, pulling the device out from under the blanket. The syringe was empty and the device off, signaling that her treatment was complete. “I’m supposed to pause the treatment for like five minute intervals, but I forgot. I was distracted by the show.”
“That’s okay,” he attempted to reassure her. “Do you know that you’re shivering right now?”
“I’m so cold.” she managed back, shivering again. “Oh my god, am I gonna die?”
Lin put a hand against her forehead, feeling how warm she was in contrast.
“You’re not going to die, but I think you may have a little bit of a fever.” he warned. “We should probably pull that tube out—”
“Bandages.” she reminded him. “They’re in the bathroom.”
“I’ll just go grab a few—” As he stood up, Alexa reached out for his hand, pulling him back.
“Please don’t.” she begged, squeezing his hand.
Though Lin had no firsthand experience with anxiety disorder, he could tell his daughter was on the verge of a panic attack. Her occasional shivering had turned into constant shaking as she tried to hold herself together.
“I’m right here.” he assured her, squeezing her hand back. “You’re okay.”
Lin sat on the floor beside the couch, not letting go of her hand. Considering the strength of her grip, letting go didn’t seem to be an option even if he had wanted to do so.
“Hey Vanessa,” his voice projected down the hall to his wife’s office, where she pulled herself away from the desk and out to the living room.
“What’s going on?” She asked, catching sight of her daughter shaking on the couch. “Is she okay?”
“Everything is fine.” He hoped the calm presence that he was exhibiting would be enough to signal Vanessa to do the same. Thankfully, she caught on.
“Could you grab some bandages and bring them over here? In fact, just grab the box.”
“Yeah, sure.” She scurried off to the bathroom, grabbing the box from the cabinet underneath the sink and rushing it back to the living room.
There was a cry from the hallway catching everyone’s attention.
“Shit,” Lin whispered, taking the box from Vanessa. “He must’ve heard me call you.”
“I’ll take care of him.” she offered. “Stay here.”
While V left to take care of Sebastian, Lin stayed behind to be with his daughter. He slowly pulled the blanket aside, cautiously avoiding sudden movements, and pushed up the hem of her sweatshirt to reveal three small needles embedded underneath her outer layer of skin just above her hip bone. He pulled each of them out and replaced them with a bandage.
“Really weak…” Alexa managed through uneven breaths.
“Mija, you have to breathe evenly.” He reminded her, taking one of her hands and placing it against his chest. “Follow me, okay?”
The teen nodded slowly, eagerly trying to match her breathing rate with his. She did, feeling her skyrocketed heart rate drop ever so slightly.
“Do you think you can walk?”
“I-I don’t know.” she admitted.
Slowly but surely he helped her off the couch, supporting most of her weight as they relocated to her bedroom. When she was safely in bed Lin opted to stay with her, sitting beside the bed on the floor. She still insisted on holding his hand, though her constant shaking and uneven breathing had been reduced to occasional shivering and steady breathing.
He had every intention of staying beside her until she fell asleep, but when he was woken up by Vanessa a few hours later only to discover that he’d fallen asleep leaning against the side of Alexa’s bed, he debated if having done so was a step too far.
“At least she knows you’re there for her.” Vanessa said once they’d stepped out into the hallway, closing her bedroom door.
“I just don’t want her to become too dependent.”
They headed down the hall to their own bedroom, sliding into bed beside one another.
“What’s gonna happen when she starts school in September?” he prompted. “We can’t be there for her all the time. She’ll occasionally need to whether a storm on her own. I’m not sure she knows how to do that.”
“We could always ask you mother for advice.” Vanessa pointed out. “Before we discuss school though, we should probably settle on a school for her to attend.”
-
As July pressed on, Lin and Vanessa came face to face with a very serious decision and a very strict deadline to make it.
They had searched the city, desperately seeking the best possible school to send Alexa to. They knew it had to be private—though tuition would be steep, they would only have to pay it for two years—and that it had to have a good arts program. It was the only way her heavy interest in playwriting would be encouraged academically.
“Okay so, we’re down to two options.”
It was a week before Hamilton opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. The couple sat in Lin’s office, laptops out and coffee in hand to make a final decision. Both Sebastian and Alexa were asleep, giving them the space to put their heads together.
“Right. First is Brearley.” Vanessa announced, reopening the tab to the school’s website.
“All-girls, which you know I’m a fan of.” Lin offered. “The less shitty teenage boys around to hurt her, the better.”
“Yes, but it is all the way out on the Upper East Side which makes commute a huge hassle coming all the way from the Heights. I have enough trouble getting to court downtown. Especially during rush hour.”
Lin shrugged. Distance was another negative peg for Brearley. Travelling from so far uptown to the Upper East Side would mean a lot of buses and a lot of transfers that would make the morning commute inconvenient.
“Still,” she added. “It’s a top notch school. I think Tina Fey’s daughters go there. Not to mention, their college prep is really great too.”
“Right.” Lin nodded slowly. “But their arts program is kind of bleak. It mostly focuses on music. Which is great, but it’s not Alexa’s area of interest.”
“What are we up against?” Vanessa asked
“Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School.” Lin started, changing the tab on his own computer.
“Upper West Side, so commute is really simple.” he paused, wincing at the next thought. “But they’re co-ed. Which means shitty teenage boys.“
“They’re also a great school, and with a similar college prep system.” Vanessa added, taking a swig of her coffee.
“Their arts system also has a more profound Drama program. This has to be it, right?” Lin questioned.
“At $47,000, it’s two-thousand more expensive a year than Brearley.”
He sighed. “I mean at this price, what’s two-thousand more dollars?”
“Lin,” she grabbed his free hand, squeezing it. “We may have to cut corners to make this work.”
“Well if Hamilton does as well on Broadway as In The Heights did, we might be able to scrape by.”
“Sweetie,” she tried.
“We’ll be fine.” he insisted. “Hamilton will do fine. It did fine at the Public—.”
“You know I want nothing but success for you. But there’s always a rare chance that these things don’t work out like you thought they would.”
“But if they do—”
“Then we pay tuition for this year, set aside tuition for next year, and keep going. That’s great.”
He sighed again, groaning as he rubbed his eyes. “What do we do now?”
“We pay for this year and we budget until we see how Hamilton turns out. I’ll pull a few extra cases at the firm. We can make this work.”
As fortune would have it, their off-Broadway tickets sold out almost immediately. In time, Hamilton quickly became an overnight sensation. Ticket prices soared, seats for their Broadway shows sold out months in advance and, much like at the Public Theatre, notable names came out in droves to see the show.
With this popularity, Lin-Manuel Miranda very quickly became a household name. His once quiet days at home writing were now spent doing interviews, photo shoots, and and press for Hamilton’s upcoming opening on Broadway. Time typically spent at home with his kids now had to be split with his busy schedule.
Coming home from a Sunday afternoon matinee, Lin stepped into his living room only to find him a significant collection of shopping bags scattered about the room.
“What the…”
Alexa stumbled into the living room then, picking up a few bags before she noticed Lin in the doorway.
“Oh, you’re back.”
“What’s going on?”
“Your mom took me shopping.” she explained. “She’s in my room trying to figure out how we’re going to fit all of this in my closet. The woman has amazing taste… but it’s like the shopping was never ending. I left owning no bathing suits and came back owning five.”
“Wait, why did you go shopping with my mom?” Lin picked up a few bags, glancing in them before setting them down. “She goes way overboard when it comes to clothes shopping.”
“You weren’t here.” she reminded him. “Neither was Vanessa.”
He sighed. He couldn’t exactly argue that.
“You’re right. I’m sorry.”
Alexa opened her mouth to speak, hesitating for a moment as she placed the bags in her hand back down on the floor.
“I’m not…” she sighed, groaning in frustration as she struggled to get the right words out. “I’m not great at expressing feelings.”
Lin was silent, waiting for her to continue.
“I get that… I understand that you’ve created Hamilton and it’s this big, successful thing that a lot of people like, but I didn’t ask to have a famous parent and still I’m getting all of the negative repercussions of what that entails. I don’t see you anymore. You’re not here. You’re off doing interviews or photoshoots and I get it, that’s what you have to do, but you can’t just leave your family behind at the same time.”
“Lex I’m so sorry,” he tried. “This all kind of happened at once and I’m still trying to work on my time management skills—”
“Just be a father.” she interrupted him. “That’s all I want.” She picked the bags back up, turning to head back to her room. “Oh, and something else,”
He glanced at her curiously.
“I don’t know how long this public interest is going to last,”
“It should die down soon.” he suggested. “Usually people are pretty hyped in the beginning, but once you’ve been running for a while it dies down pretty quickly. Things will go back to normal soon.”
“Whatever it is or however long it lasts, just leave me out of it. I can’t stand the idea of being related to someone famous. People always befriend you because they want something. Money… attention… tickets to Hamilton. I’m not about to be taken advantage of just because you’re a good writer.”
He nodded slowly. “That’s fair. I’ll leave you out of it.”
“Okay,” she sighed, dropping the bags again to pull her hair back into a high bun with the hair tie on her wrist. “That sucked.”
“I’m proud of you.” he smiled. “You expressed how you were feeling in an appropriate matter.”
She rolled her eyes. “Rare, I know. Don’t expect that to happen all of the time.” She picked up the bags once more. “Since you’re actually home for more than five minutes, can you help out?”
He picked up bags as instructed, following her into her room.
-
Fall was approaching, the beginning of the school year soon to arrive as well. Once the decision had been made (and down payment sent), of where she would attend school that year, Alexa changed her facebook information to show the school she would be attending that fall, Columbia Prep.
It drew a lot of attention, mostly from other students at that school. She was a recognizable face, the girl who hangs out with the cast of Hamilton, the hottest show in New York. The girl who was the daughter of the creator. A big deal.
It was August sixth, the date circled on the calendar as opening night for Hamilton on Broadway.
That morning, as she was being briefed on her dreaded babysitting duties for the evening by Vanessa, an unexpected facebook message caught her attention.
[Hey, Are you Alexa? You’re going to Columbia Prep in the fall, right?]
Vanessa was delivering instructions to her daughter while feeding Sebastian at his high chair in the kitchen, Alexa alone with her macbook in the living room. Desperate to discuss anything else, she started typing back.
[I am… who are you?]
The stranger was quick to respond.
[Oh, I’m sorry. That was rude of me. I’m Eric Westley. I go to CP. I’m the varsity lacrosse captain. I don’t suppose you’re into sports?]
With that short description, Eric sounded exactly like the type of boy Lin had lectured her to avoid. Athletes. She remembered him saying. Especially with typical rich white boy names like Eric or Eric or Nathan… they only want to take advantage of you. Avoid them at all costs.
She was usually one to heed Lin’s warnings, but being exiled from the night’s events, she was feeling rather rebellious and chose to respond.
[Not unless you count University of Alabama college football… and only by force tbh. I’m sorry, but how do you know me?]
[Then I guess I should say Roll Tide. Aren’t you Lin-Manuel Miranda’s new daughter? The guy who wrote Hamilton?]
Reading that last line, her interest vanished.
[Whatever you’re trying to get out of me, I’m not interested. Thanks for wasting my time.]
Eric could tell he’d lost her faster than a dying patient’s pulse. He was quick to defend his actions.
[Woah hold on… I didn’t mean it like that. Listen, I get what that’s like. My dad’s an actor… it always feels like people are trying to get shit from me. I just figured you could relate.]
Alexa hesitated. The idea of knowing someone who had similar experiences was comforting at the very least.
[I guess it can’t hurt to meet new people if we have something in common.]
[Exactly. Hey speaking of meeting new people, do you have any plans tonight?]
“Lex, are you even listening to me?”
The teen glanced up from her computer, Vanessa standing over her, half dressed, a jar of baby food in one hand, her cell phone in the other.
“Sure,” she muttered back.
“What did I just say?”
Alexa rolled her eyes. “Could you put on a shirt while you’re talking to me, Vanessa? This isn’t a Victoria’s Secret fashion show.”
Vanessa scoffed, headed back to her bedroom to put a dress shirt on.
“Not like they’d ever invite you anyway.” the teen mumbled just loud enough for Vanessa to hear. Once she was gone, Alexa turned her attention back to the screen in front of her.
[No plans. Why?]
[A bunch of upperclassmen are having a party tonight. It’s just people from CP so you’ll meet plenty of people who go there.]
[Sounds like fun.]
[It’s kind of low-key though, so don’t tell anyone. The address is 2 E 61st St.]
A quick google search revealed a luxury hotel on the Upper East Side along Fifth Avenue.
[Can I take a wild guess and say you have your own suite there?]
[Didn’t I say it was lowkey? ;) Be there at midnight. I’ll meet you in the lobby.]
“Lex, I’m serious!” Vanessa was back, fully dressed for work this time.
“Could you not call me Lex?” she finally asked, breaking Vanessa’s stride.
“What do you mean?” she asked, putting on a pair of earrings. “Lin calls you that all the time.”
“I know. I’m asking you not to.”
There was a pause. Vanessa glanced at her daughter who seemed serious about the request.
“I don’t know what I’m still doing here.” she finally said, grabbing her briefcase and choking back tears. “I’m going to be late for work. I should go.”
Lex watched carefully as Vanessa made her way out without another word. Once the front door was closed, she briefly turned back to her laptop.
[I’ll be there.]
-
Lin had left for the night around four, Vanessa returning briefly around six to change and head to the theatre.
This gave Alexa plenty of time to prepare for the evening, all while putting Sebastian to sleep at a prompt seven-thirty.
She was out the door at eleven, wearing one of the many dresses her grandmother had bought for her on their recent shopping trip along with a pair of heels and a small bag to carry the essentials (phone, house keys, wallet, a tube of lip gloss). Before she left, she felt obligated to peek in on Sebastian. He was fast asleep as expected, though that didn’t keep the guilt she felt of leaving him alone at bay. He was only eight months old, after all.
“I’ll be back soon.” she whispered. “Just don’t freak out until then.”
On her way out the door, her phone buzzed alerting her of a text that had come through. As she headed to the elevator down the hall, she opened the message.
[Just finished an amazing show. Can’t wait for you to see the others. Thank you for coming through tonight. Grateful for you.
Love you
Lin]
She held her breath as the elevator made its way down to the first floor. The unholy “L word” had finally made it’s way into her life and it managed to hit her like a car hitting a brick wall.
She’d been with the Miranda’s for five weeks, and while her time had been enjoyable no doubt, using that word had never occurred to her.
Until now at least.
The night she was lying to them and sneaking out, leaving their infant at home alone.
“Did you have to love me right this second? She managed, closing the messenger app without drafting a response.
-
She took a cab to sixty-first street, carefully adjusting her hair before she entered the hotel.
Eric Westley was waiting in the lobby for her, dressed for a cocktail party. Eric was tall, at 6’2” compared to her 5’7”. He was also rather fit, although the lacrosse probably had something to do with that. He was blonde, his hair flipped back and styled meticulously. He was already smiling as she approached.
“Hey.” He greeted her with a kiss on the cheek, causing her to blush. “Are you ready?”
She nodded, glancing around at the other patrons in the lobby—employees and older guests.
“Are you sure we’re in the right place?”
Eric took her hand, leading her toward the suite’s private elevator on the far end of the lobby. “You’ll see.”
It was a short elevator ride to the top floor of the building. The largest suite was at the top. As they headed up, Alexa could hear the music blaring. The doors opened and they entered the space, a living room full of dozens of other teens. Everyone had a red cup in their hand, a table loaded with small bar in the kitchen being frequently populated. She spotted a few people snorting coke off of the tables using hundred dollar bills. While most were in groups of friends, there were couples scattered around, some likely hidden away in one of the bedrooms.
Suddenly, she felt very out of place. This was nothing like she’d experienced before.
“Can I get you anything?” Eric interrupted her thoughts, a smirk on his face. “A drink? Maybe something a little more exciting?” he gestured to the group of students snorting coke off of the dining room table. “If that’s your thing.”
“Just a drink.” she confirmed.
“What do you feel like swallowing?” he asked, a cocky grin on his face.
Her eyes widened in shock, though Eric seemed completely serious. Finally, she seceded. “Surprise me.”
“Oh, I will. Don’t go anywhere.”
Leaving her in the living room among the others, Eric headed over to to the bar, signaling a friend as he did so.
“Are you sure this is gonna work?” his friend, Braxton, asked, handing him a pill bottle.
“The guy said it would work. He said one, maybe two to really have an effect.”
“Then go with two. I don’t want to risk anything.“
Eric opened the bottle, shaking out two pills and placing them both into a red solo cup full of whiskey. He grabbed a cup of his own, untouched before turning back to Braxton.
“Just make sure the guys are ready. When she’s out, I’m gonna bring her into the bedroom at the end of the hall. I’ll text you when it’s okay to come in. Then it’s time to put on a show for daddy.”
“Alright man, get out there.” Braxton gave his teammate a supportive pat on the shoulder as he headed back toward Alexa, drinks in hand.
“There you go.” he smiled, handing the correct one to her.
“Thanks.” she immediately took a sip, sucking down the hard liquor without hesitation.
“Hey did I ever mention that my dad has won four academy awards?”
Oh god… Alexa was already sighing internally. If she’d known Eric would brag about his family, she would’ve bailed before he got back. She took a long swig of her drink and waited for him to continue.
“… Then when I was six, my parents put me in a lacrosse league. I was the best one there. They kept moving me up to the next group early because my skill was so good.”
Every time he told an obvious lie, Alexa forced herself to take a sip. She’d started when he bragged about his IQ being over 200.
“Then in fourth grade…”
Alexa could feel her vision blurring. She would stumble once or twice, grabbing onto him for support. He didn’t seem to mind.
This whiskey is a lot stronger than I thought… she realized, feeling her senses fade. She struggled to stay up now, depending entirely on him to stay upright.
“Are you okay?” he asked, helping her stay up. “I think you’re a little drunk, Alexa.”
“S-strong drink.” she managed, her words heavily slurred.
“Let’s go somewhere to cool off.” he suggested, quickly helping to relocate her.
They stepped into the bedroom at the far end of the hall, devoid of other patrons. Alexa was confused by her surroundings, unable to process the new environment before Eric leaned in to kiss her. He slid his tongue between her lips, exploring the inside of her mouth.
“No—” she managed to push him away. “No I’m not okay with this.”
“Too bad there’s nothing you can do about it.” He smirked.
As if on command, the room started to spin. Alexa’s vision blurred to shapes and colors as she collapsed to the floor, barely coherent.
“That’s more like it.” He pulled her up onto the bed, unzipping the back of her dress and fumbling with her bra before he managed to pull it off. Her breasts were revealed, bare to the cold air in the room.
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a cell phone, opening the camera, and snapping photos of her.
“Aw shit… Your dad’s gonna love this.”
Alexa could hear him speaking, but wasn’t able to form a response. She felt her dress being completely pulled off, her underwear nearly torn apart. There was something inside of her.
She wanted to scream, to kick, to do anything to stop it. Still, she lied there. She felt weak, motionless. Like nothing could be done.
Eric made sure to get a photo with her face in frame, her motionless body and how he slid himself inside of her.
She managed a groan in protest, a tear sliding down her cheek.
“Yeah, that’s good, isn’t it?” Using one hand, he switched the format on the camera
“What do you say we take a little video?” he asked, hitting record. Carefully, he zoomed in on her face.
“I wonder what he’d think if he saw you know? His little bastard orphan making some awfully bad choices.”
Another protesting groan. Eric readjusted the camera, filming himself pulse in and out of her. He leaned over, using one hand to wrap around her neck, then refocused on penetration. He was quick, hungry for release. He finished inside of her with a sigh, squeezing her neck harder before pulling away from her.
Alexa felt a wave of relief. It was over. She wanted nothing more that to be left there to her own merit.
“Now,” Eric stopped recording. “We’re going to bring a few friends in.”
The fear quickly returned as three figures entered the room. They were all excited at the sight of her.
“Is she totally out?” one asked
“She’s awake enough to hear and see us… Not enough to fight back.” Eric confirmed as he began recording once again.
They each took turns then, going one by one. The penetration was short, a product of their age and lack of control. They would finish over her, an insult to injury, leaving their remains to stick to her skin.
Alexa could feel herself rolled over, pushed to lie on her stomach.
“Holy shit look at all those scars.” one of them said.
“We’re probably not the first ones to do this.” someone else quipped.
“Are you getting this?” She heard someone ask.
“Yeah. I’m gonna send it to Lin-Manuel Miranda on twitter.”
There was a chorus of laughter as a warm liquid made contact with her back. One stream, then two then three. She could feel the liquid seeping into the duvet she was stuck on. She sobbed, causing another chorus of laughter.
She was wasted. Numb.
The group managed to push her back onto the wooden floor for good measure, before leaving and shutting the door.
As soon as they returned to the living room, they wasted no time relocating the data to social media.
Each tweet had an incriminating attached photo or video. They had no shame, showed no regret. They were proud of themselves. They were hoping to solicit a response loud enough to get attention.
-
Downtown, the afterparty was in full swing. Lin was drunk, celebrating with his cast mates and family over Hamilton’s overwhelming success. Music was blaring from the stage as The Roots performed, among a ton of other celebrities.
Alongside his wife, Lin’s father, Luis, was actively retweeting things about Hamilton in support of his son. It was almost a ritual of his, to do anything he could to support his kids. Because of Hamilton’s literal overnight success, he’d been busy keeping up. There were thousands of tweets celebrating the success of opening night. While scrolling through tweets, he came across a group of them from one individual. All sent to Lin, all with a photo or video attached. Eager to see fanart or something more exciting, he negated reading the tweets and opened the first video.
An image appeared of his granddaughter, nude, on a bed in what appeared to be some kind of hotel room, barely conscious. She was being raped, laughed at, choked as she lay there, a victim of her situation.
Luis was shocked, disturbed, enraged by this. He glanced at the other tweets by the same account, all sent to his son, all including incredibly graphic photos or videos of Alexa being sexually assaulted. He closed twitter immediately, prompting his wife to find Vanessa as he went in search of his son.
Lin was on stage, freestyling for the crowd as The Roots played a beat to back him up. As he finished there was an eruption of applause, his father there to greet him as soon as he got off-stage.
“LIN! Have you seen what’s happening?”
Still plenty inebriated, Lin all smiles as he gestured to the room. “Yeah, Hamilton’s doing great!”
“No!” His father pulled him closer, an attempt to keep a secret even with the blaring music. “There’s someone on twitter sending you videos of him sexually assaulting Alexa!”
Lin’s face fell, almost in disbelief. “Wait, what?”
“It’s all over twitter!”
Frantic, Lin pulled out his own phone an opened twitter, desperate to find the evidence himself. There is was, dozens of tweets from teenage boys sent directly to him, filming as they (or others) violated his unconscious daughter.
His was furious, an emotion he rarely, if ever, felt. The rage matched his concern and fear.
“I’m going over to that address.” His father announced. “Come with me. We need to find her.”
“Wait! I have to find Vanessa first.”
There was a tap on his shoulder then, Vanessa behind him.
“Oh my god, V. We have to gowehavetofindher—” Lin was frantic, rushing through his words.
“Your mom and I are going home to find Sebastian.” she announced, cutting him off. “I never thought I’d say this, but I really hope she left him home alone.”
Lin pulled her face closer, kissing her forehead. “Go. I’ll get in touch with you as soon as we find her.”
It was a twenty minute drive from midtown to the Upper East Side. Lin and his father had begged the cab driver to drive faster, to run red lights, to do anything to get there as quickly as possible. Lin tried to mask the panic in his voice, but given the circumstances, it wasn’t easy.
When they arrived, the street outside was nearly silent. From the exterior, no one would know what was going on inside.
They rushed in, frantic, determined. There was one employee, a young man, behind the check-in desk when they walked in.
“Can I help you?” he asked as they approached him.
“We need to get to the Renaissance Suite.” Luis glanced at the tweet once more for confirmation.
“I’m sorry sir, that suite is currently occupied.”
Lin rolled his eyes. “Yeah, we know that. We need to get in there.”
“Unless you’re a guest of the person currently residing there I’m afraid I can’t let you—”
“Can we speak to your manager?” Lin interrupted him. “Now?”
The employee nodded slowly, heading to the back. Lin rolled the sleeves of his dress shirt up, realizing just then that he’d left his jacket in the cab. It was the furthest concern from his mind as he loosened his tie slightly, still fuming.
“Hello, my name is Geoffrey. I’m the manager of guest relations. Is there a problem here?”
“Hi Geoffrey,” Lin offered his hand to the older gentleman. “My name is Lin.”
“How can I assist you this evening, Lin?”
“Papá, ¿puedo ver tu celular?”
Luis handed his phone over as requested, prompting Lin to pull up one of the many videos before turning the phone to face Geoffrey.
“Do you know what this is, Geoff—may I call you Geoff? This is a video of my sixteen year old daughter being raped in your hotel. Now unless you want me and my wife—who is an attorney, by the way—to sue you out of business, you’ll take me to the Renaissance Suite immediately.”
Geoff nearly sprinted to the private elevator, Lin and Luis close behind. They made the slow climb to the top, a cesspool of bad decisions awaiting them. At first sight, both Lin and Luis came across mounds of illegal drugs alongside copious amounts of prescription pills and alcohol that were being ingested simultaneously Among them, the occasional used condom.
“She wouldn’t do this.” Lin whispered to himself.
“Geoff,” he said louder this time. “Call 911. Ask for the police.” he paused, another wave of fear washing over him as he remembered the state his daughter was left in. “And EMS.”
The manager pulled out his cell phone, wasting no time.
Lin and Luis went on a search then, carefully looking out for his daughter.
At the far end of the room, the group of boys responsible managed a sarcastic applause when they saw him approaching.
“You,” Lin approached Eric directly, recognizing his face from the photo on this twitter profile. He got uncomfortably close, right into the younger boy’s face.
“Where’s my daughter?”
“Isn’t it your job to know that, daddy?” he mocked, his friends chuckling behind him in response.
“Tell me where she is.” Lin could feel the rage coursing through every inch of his body. It took everything he had not to snap the sixteen year old in half like a twig.
“Or what?” Eric challenged. “You’re gonna write my death and put it in a fucking musical? Oh boy… I’m so scared.”
“Listen kid,” he started, immediately calling out their age difference. “I’m being nice and not kicking the shit out of you right now. If you don’t tell me where she is, I’m not gonna be as nice.”
“Is that supposed to be a threat?” he shot back. “You know I’m a 18 year old heir to a billion dollar company and you’re, what, a 40-something Mexican that practices a dead media? Who do you think the police are gonna go after?”
“Lin!” Luis attempted to pull his son aside, away from what was brewing. “We need to look for Alexa.”
“He’s right. You need to keep an eye out for your damaged goods.”
Lin was instinctive then, winding his arm back to punch the teen directly in the eye. He winced in pain, but was satisfied in watching his target go down.
“By the way,” he added, starting to follow his dad. “I’m Puerto Rican. Not Mexican.”
“You’re gonna pay for that!” he heard, walking away from the scene.
“Try me.” he responded, not even glancing over his shoulder.
There was a wailing of sirens approaching as Lin and Luis attempted every door in the room. All of them lead somewhere else, none of them to Alexa. Finally they approached the last door at the far end of the hall, locked. Frantically, Lin used his shoulder to slam against the door until it forced open. There, on the floor of the bedroom, was his daughter. Completely nude, her clothing scattered aside, bruises around her neck. She lay motionless, having lost consciousness.
“Oh my god…” Lin was choking back tears at the sight. He fell to her side, trying to shake her awake.
“Alexa, are you okay? Please say something, please. Anything.”
Luis left to grab towels from the bathroom, using them to cover her.
“NYPD! Everyone freeze!”
Outside the room, the police had arrived at the scene, taking anyone they could catch into custody. EMS was right behind them, Luis leading them to the room where Alexa was. They carefully pulled her onto the stretcher. Briefly, she regained consciousness.
“Alexa! Are you okay?”
“Can you tell us what you took, sweetie?” A female paramedic asked, making sure her body was covered. “And how much?”
“I… I didn’t.” She tried. “They put something in my drink—” was all she could manage before losing consciousness again.
“St. Luke’s is diverting, so we’re gonna take her to Roosevelt.” a male paramedic announced. “We can only take one of you in the back with us, though.”
“I’ll go.” Lin immediately volunteered. “She’s my daughter.”
They passed Eric, being interrogated by police, on the way out.
“Don’t let the door hit you on your way out of the country when Trump wins!” he managed, getting a stern look from the police while Lin ignored his harsh words.
[MS] Becoming the Monster
How do you kill a monster without becoming one, you ask? Well, it’s entirely impossible. Trust me, I should know. How? Well, here we go. I guess I have a story to tell, then.
It was a dark and stormy night. Sorry if this sounds a little cheesy, but it’s the truth. Anyway, I was walking home from work after a long day of school. By the way, I work at the local library. Not really important right now, but I thought I would add it. So anyway, I was exhausted from the day, and literally had no desire or motivation to do anything but sleep, so I was walking slow and dragging my feet, enjoying the rain. I wasn’t far from my house when I heard a noise in the bushes. Now, I lived in Florida at the time, so animals at night were not an uncommon thing, so naturally I ignored the noise. Yup, you guessed it. Big mistake. And not because I instantly got attacked by a roaming hostile alligator, but because what would happen later would haunt me forever.
I noticed nothing else until I arrived home about ten minutes later. My parents were watching TV like normal, and I got ready for bed and went to my room. It was a total pigsty. Everything was destroyed. My bed was in shambles, the sheets ripped into shreds, the bed frame bent and broken. My dresser and nightstand were cracked and the paint was scratched off, and the closet door was hanging from half of one hinge. I immediately rushed downstairs to tell my dad, and he stubbornly trudged up the stairs, convinced I was having a dream. But when he got to the top of the stairs and looked into my room, he stopped and sighed.
“Come on now, don’t play these games with me.”
When I looked into the room, it was completely clean and tidy, no mess to be seen. I know what you’re wondering. How in the history of the world? Yeah, me too. Well here’s what happened. The monster that I ended up killing did it, obviously. But it’s not really a monster. See, we humans believe it to be, but in reality it’s just like a weird sorcerer-witch mix thing that wants things it can’t necessarily have. Like maybe, something I already own. Possibly, I don’t know, my blood?
But none of that matters right now, what matters is how I got around to figuring out what was happening.
The next morning I decided to investigate. I called up a close friend, Kaede, to help me. When she got to my house, I explained everything. How I heard the noise in the bushes when I was walking home, and the weird thing with my dad and my room.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. You want me to like, help you hunt ghosts or something? You’re crazy if you think I’ll help you,” Kaede said, totally reluctant.
“Oh, come on,” I said. “It’s not a ghost, just something else, you know?”
“Uh, no, I actually don’t know, sorry.” She turned away to leave, but I wasn’t amused. I kept pushing her to help me and eventually she gave in with the bribe that I would help with her math homework. She was really bad at math so it was a good bribe.
Anyway, we started out by investigating my room. I looked around, examining practically everywhere. Other than a torn up piece of paper with--it seemed like--nothing written on it, I couldn’t find anything. I was getting pretty disappointed when Kaede snatched the piece of paper from my hand and unwrinkled it.
“I saw something, like an ink smudge,” she said. “Ooh, look! It says: ‘Rustle, rustle, whip and whistle, down at the shrub made of crinkled thistle.’”
“Hey, that might be the place where I heard the thing in the bush last night! This is a little creepy, but I do love a good scavenger hunt,” I replied. The thought of following notes placed by a potential serial killer sent a chill down my spine, but I was determined to figure out what was happening. Besides, this story is about me killing the guy, and nobody got anywhere heroic just by being careful.
“Are we really gonna run around getting progressively closer to death?” Kaede said. “I mean, what if this entire thing is a trap because a psychopath knew that you would like the chase?”
Not at all surprised by her cautiousness, I stood stony-eyed, determined to finish this thing through. “I’m gonna go, whether you want to come or not. So choose now because it’s likely you won’t get to change your mind,” I warned.
She jumped up, looking angrier than before. “Well I’m not gonna let you go alone, that’s for sure. We all know how well that’s going to end up.”
Rolling my eyes, I grabbed a backpack and stuffed a few water bottles and blankets. “Just in case,” I said, shrugging.
After Kaede was finished with her sarcastic comments, we headed out to the street. About a quarter-mile from my house I found the spot where I heard the rustling the night before. I ran into the underbrush and searched around for another slip of paper that could hold a clue to the next destination. And yes, now that I look back at it, I very well could have been murdered. Easily. Luckily, the tables turned and I killed the monster. Ahem, back to the story here. So after about ten minutes of frantic searching, I found a leaf with writing on it. How someone was able to write on leaf, I have no idea, but the next clue read: ‘This one is difficult, but don’t give up hope, a large building, the one where you mope.’
“Oh, this is easy. Your work. Whenever I come to the library you’re always bored out of your mind and moping around,” Kaede added. Of course. How was this one difficult?
So we ran to the local library, walked through the large sliding doors, and froze. We had absolutely no idea of where to go next. The library was so large that the chance of us finding the next clue today was practically impossible.
“Oh, so this is what it meant by difficult, huh?” I shuddered. “Well, let’s get to work.”
I decided to head to the mystery and crime section, thinking that this scavenger hunt would have something to do with a mystery of some sort. But no luck. Kaede ventured over to the fantasy and drama, again with no luck. After a few more hours of looking to no avail, I wandered over to the sorcery and magic section. Bored and uninterested, I picked up a book on the effects of sorcery on the caster. The pages fell to the sides revealing a note.
“Aww, yeah! Kaede, I got it! Here look, it says: ‘Sink deeper into sadness, look no further than your own madness.’” This one was a little harder, but we thought a little. After thinking for five minutes, our brains hurt so we stopped. And realized we knew all along. The school! Obviously everyone is sad at school, and just can’t stand being there, therefore they go mad! We were absolute idiots. Obviously we had to spend more time there.
Unfortunately, it was Saturday and the school was closed. But we had to get in, one way or the other, so we devised a plan. I would grab the crowbar, and pry open the window in the back of the school. Kaede would then slip through the window and open the door for me from the inside. She was naturally slimmer than me so this plan was bound to work. I ran home and grabbed the crowbar out of the garage. We ran to the school and began to look for a window that was hidden enough to begin our plan. But none of the windows were concealed enough for our liking. Determined to carry out our brilliant idea, we chose a random window and began.
“Hey, hey! What do you kids think you’re doing?” A voice called from behind us. Kaede looked at me in horror as we turned to face the voice. It was a police officer. And we were busted.
“Uhh, we forgot our homework, officer,” I tried to explain, totally making us look even more like total idiots.
“Uhuh, now come with me. You’re arrested for defacing and trying to break into a government owned property.”
After a nice ride in a police car, we reached the police station. I prayed we weren’t gonna go to jail. I wasn’t ready to be a criminal. The officer called our parents, but seeing that both of us were far too poor to pay bail, we had to stay one night at the holding cell in the police station.
I flopped down on the bench, next to a man with his face covered by a sweatshirt hood. Kaede stood at the bars, staring out into the almost empty police station. I slouched, bored already.
“Uh, so fella, what got you here?” I asked the man sitting next to me. I already felt like a full-time criminal, getting to know my fellow prison-mates.
He looked up slowly, a smirk shadowing his lips. “So you followed my notes, I see. You were wrong about one thing, though I know where you were coming from with thinking it was the school. The last clue led here, but you ended up here anyway, so it all turned out fine,” he said.
Ahh, yes. Madness and sadness would come from being in jail, but it still made more sense at the school. So this was the guy. The one that rummaged through my room and somehow put it back together in a matter of about 30 seconds. The one that led us on a scavenger hunt throughout the day and brought us to being arrested. The one I was going to kill.
“I’m going to tell you what I am now, don’t be too alarmed. Okay, i’m a sorcerer. That’s why I was able to get you so interested in this entire scheme from the beginning. You see, I have a craving. A craving for human blood. It all started after I killed a vampire, and I became that monster as well. I targeted you because, well, you looked weak. But now I may be mistaken. Anyway, prepare to die.”
Now at this point I was totally shaken and absolutely dazed with fear and anger, so I wasn’t prepared for death. I only snapped out of my daze when he jumped at me, hands outstretched and mouth open and snarling. Kaede turned around at my scream and jumped forward, trying to claw the man away from me. She grabbed his collar and choked him back before he turned on her. Still shaken, I jumped up and looked frantically around for a weapon. The bench was a little loose in the screws, so I tugged at it, to no avail. Determined, I slammed my body down on it, breaking it from the wall with the force of my weight. Picking it up, I staggered over to where the man and Kaede were wrestling, and slammed the bench on the top of the man’s head. I heard a crack, a groan, then silence.
I stepped back, horrified. Kaede looked stunned, and stepped towards me in a shock. I suddenly felt woozy and dizzy, and I swayed on my feet. I had to sit down on the dirty floor, placing my head on my knees. I closed my eyes, prompting the nauseous feeling to recede.
After what felt like hours I stood up, an unnatural craving for something plaguing my senses. I frantically looked around, and my crazed eyes fell upon Kaede, standing and shaking in the corner. I felt powerful and strong enough to easily take her down. She stared at me in terror, hugging herself, trying to melt into the wall behind her. My eyes widened and I smiled. Not a joyous smile, but an evil smirk. She whimpered, closing her eyes.
“You’re, you’re not yourself. Please, stay away from me,” she sobbed. “You killed that man, and now you’re acting like him, like you want to, I don’t know, eat me or something.”
Yes. The sorcerer was dead, and he had mentioned himself having a craving for human blood after he killed a vampire. The only reasonable explanation for my altered actions was that the same had happened to me. The craving for Kaede’s blood: the vampire. The unnatural feeling of power and control: the sorcerer. So it had happened. I had become the monster that I had killed.
So you see. It’s entirely impossible to kill a monster without becoming one. From personal experience, I know the horrors that become you once you kill something. The best way to avoid the worst is to stay away from tempting adventures and stay out of trouble. But sometimes the terrors are inevitable.
And I will never forget the things that I did that night; the things I did to Kaede. Let’s just say there was nothing for the police to find the next morning.
