it’s also baffling to me that tumblr, home of the ‘why are white men Still being cast as the doctor’ for So many years now (For you know, like over a decade.) is somehow not appalled that they hired a white dude to be the next Doctor because look okay it’s okay if it’s This white man.
I mean, I do not consent to acknowledge that they’ve shoved him in there under any circumstance, but my Only need for the casting of the next person was that it was Not a white man, otherwise i didn’t care who it was, so when they “announced” Gatwa I was satisfied (i am hesitant to say they announced it bc it was more like a tiny footnote than an announcement, oh the disrespect) and it took a whole seven days (it was literally seven days. Yes i counted. it was easy since it was only seven days) it was ‘actually sorry no it’s this white dude we’ve already had before did we forget to mention that???’ and it’s steadily gotten worse and worse.
That This site of all places is not up in arms about both the situation and how it specifically played out is depressing, but also massively and darkly hilarious.
Especially since i Also remember nobody on this site thought casting Whittaker was good enough but literally going backward to a previous white man is?? This is not even a metaphor about diversity getting worse, they literally looked backwards.
But, yeah, tenn/ant with the ‘what the future looks like’ headline is uh... Good???? Not super worrying and ominous?
I feel like i’ve been dumped in some weird parallel universe by reactions to all of this on here like??? the whole way this was done was appalling, the situation is appalling, but i guess the bbc/disney should get a rousing round of applause for accurately judging that nobody would care about their poor actions if the specific white guy they cast was popular enough that next to nobody would care.
( and to the ‘it’s an anniversary ep’ thing, they legit could have just set a couple of eps in the past. i don’t mean they travel to the past. i mean just say ‘hey this ep is set during s4!’ and nobody would care. this show does weirder stuff than this every second episode. and it would still be bad, but how they did it is so much Worse.)

Hey bunnies! It’s been a minute. 🩷
I have spent the summer getting chubby. 😀 But it’s been worth every alcoholic beverage and vacation calorie.
I decided to spend as much of the 90 days of summer saying YES to new experiences. I had to not let my weight hold me back from all the things on my bucket list. It HAS for many many years. “So sorry, but I’m too fat to go and do this and that. Sorry! But I have nothing to wear, it’s all too tight and I’m too self conscious!” I’ve known this my whole like, but I’m trying to live it “people who love you do not see your weight as a barrier to loving you”. They invite you because they want to spend time with you. Stop saying NO. You DO want to go.
Summer 2023: It’s had some ups and downs.
I went to Lido Beach Sarasota FL. Beautiful beach. 2 days in I had COVID: took 13 days to recover. That birthday vacation ended quickly.
Tried to make it up in Vegas end of June with 108 F temperatures. So hot you couldn’t even sit by the pool. Stayed at the spa most days.
Went to my first Grateful Dead concert. Perks: I already had COVID so no mask. The Free Contact high was amazing!
I did archery for the first time! Love it .
I learned to play CRAPS.
I went white water rafting at the American River.
Camp and made s’mores.
Watched the fireworks! 🩷🩷
Taught my self to make my favorite drink: Paloma.
Went to a Fiesta party and a Disco party. YES! Dressed up: wig and all!! Salsa and 70’s music and dancing.
46 days left of SUMMA! Go get it!!! ☀️☀️☀️
BTW: I’m back on my exercise and diet plan. I Do have a threshold. 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️🏃🏼♀️
💋

What did you think of red white & royal blue?
I really enjoyed it! I think it's often fairly clear when directors are adapting material that they love, and I thought that really came through which always makes me more forgiving of a movie's flaws.
But yes! Overall, I thought it was really charming, and that the romance was a lot of fun. I have a bit of a softspot for romance stories where conflict comes in the form of a sense of duty (probably why I enjoyed s2 of Bridgerton so much more than s1, haha), and I liked the way it played around with that to find moments of narrative tension that felt authentic to the world the characters lived in.
That storyworld though in itself though was - - y'know, a little bit of a mess, haha, but I think a lot of that was because of how hamstrung they were by the amount of minutes they had to work with. Overall with romance I do think storyworld can be something compromised (not should ideally, of course, but can be) for the sake of chemistry and connection, which is the choice I think they made. In particular, having more time to deepen that storyworld with the fun array of supporting characters we got to meet too briefly would've been good, I think.
I also think it would've benefitted from being a tv series though, but then again, most novel adaptions could. There's a reason it's usually so much better to adapt short stories for features!
