So wait, wait, wait. When I first read this long ago I thought he was being metaphorical bc the translation I read kinda implied it was a single set of armor/sword and it was a metaphor his new task and it tied in w how he later was like “I don't like being stuffy like warriors are.” and so I thought it was a metaphor on him sensing a pain in the ass task approaching him. But now with this (official, I think?) translation I'm now confused bc... is that armed men behind the curtain? Guards? Were they gonna kill him or something if he refused?????? Help, I'm confused now.
He had a point with these, being loyal to tyrannical lords just spells trouble for everybody else, in a way it's like betraying your own class. (That's why Araya's story in Wolfpack could be interpreted as a metaphor for a lesson: Don't be blindly loyal to a murder-happy tyrannical lord without questioning their and your moral position— rebelling will be hard, yes, but doing good is always worth it. Okay Wolfpack intermission over for now) I can appreciate his callouts here. Maybe this is also a hint of his deeply-buried romanticism.
Dramatic much, Hilmes?
Y'know what this reminded me of? This:
D:
Man... The sheer scope of this...
Kharlan really wanted to convince Saam to their side, and he's rapidly losing his chance here and— look, even his eyes look worried. Yes, I am a Saam/Kharlan shipper, what of it?
Surely, Hilmes must've known of Kharlan's desire to recruit Saam? If that's the case then I wonder why he threw that spearhead through his chest— maybe he expected that the Zahhak mages would be able to patch Saam up just fine. Can't imagine what Kharlan must've been feeling the moment that happened, though. Did he know of the mages?? I think not...
This could be a potentially interesting moment to explore in fic, hmm.
Assumptions, assumptions! And they're being overturned. Remember Kubard thinking “I thought [Arslan] was just a weakling prince but...”? Remember Shaghad assuming Arslan was a puppet prince?
I don't know where I'm going with this, except maybe how it's incredibly satisfying for me to see Arslan overturning these assumptions and proving everybody wrong!
[His brother begs the baby to live every night.
“Make it through this night,” he would say. “And every night after. Live. You're their son, their son and mine. You must live.”
Isfan is right there by their side and prays too.
And with every coming dawn Areyan proves everybody wrong.] — what would become part of Wolfpack chapter 2!
Puppy!
Sorry, I just. This chapter hurt so much and I needed something not depressing to focus on, okay? I don't have much to say except that I fucking hate Lusitanians and especially Bodin.
Aaaaaand Gieve is back to being a fucking bastard. There's a reason I disliked him, dammit.
- is the second fic I wrote for the reverse minibang 2022 by @grishaversebigbang :) read it [here]

“The goats are evil”, Jesper declared out of breath as he rounded the corner of the worn down farmhouse. He was followed by a slightly ruffled looking Wylan who was holding a bucket that had previously been filled with goat-food.
Kaz looked up from his rather comfortable place on one of the chairs they had dragged outside to sit in the afternoon-sun.
“You are the one who has been gushing over their kids the whole time”, Mathias answered drowsily from the bench next to Kaz’ chair, where he sat wrapped in Nina scarf.
Jesper pushed to sit next to him and Wylan chugged the bucket in a corner. Before taking the other chair, no longer occupied by Kuwei. Who had been dozing away on a patch of grass a few steps away and now sat up, his hair a ruffled bed-head.
“The babies are obviously not the problem man,” Jesper brushed dirt from his pants: “- but I am telling you, there is something corrupting them when they grow up.”
Kaz didn’t hide his snort: “Hunger?”
“This coming from an expert in corruption”, Mathias groaned and rolled his eyes.
Random Thought: El needs an emotional support dog. But I only want her to get one at the very end of the series finale, because otherwise I would be in a constant state of anxiety wondering if the Duffers are gonna kill it...
not to sound old fashioned or whatever but getting rid of payphones is a mistake, and the only reason we should do it is if we're replacing them with free, public use phones. Having the ability to reach out to others in every place of public congress and transit is an important safety feature and the advent and adoption of smartphones does not negate their utility.
I know i've already lost this battle, so it's somewhat pointless to say, but smartphones die. chargers aren't always there. smartphones break. some people don't have them. Being able to call someone and ask for help, to get in touch with friends and family, without relying on something you yourself own, is a societal good.
Furthermore, expecting everybody to have a single piece of fragile technology on them at all times to the point that critical services are not available without them is truly mind-boggling to me. This goes for things like restaurant menus and transit maps as well. you should be able to navigate the world without a brick made by Apple or Samsung, and if you can't, then something is fundamentally broken. It's one thing for new technology to augment an existing real-world experience, it's another thing to usurp it entirely.
An archivist found a long forgotten 8mm film reel in an old metal box, marked "Philippines 1942". Thinking it was lost WWII footage, he sent it in to be restored/digitized. When he got the footage back, he found puppies instead
