Martha, Alfred, Bruce and Clark, and John sitting in the kitchen and trying to have a peaceful conversation, when inhuman screeching from upstairs is followed by a stampede of footsteps, before Dick races down into the kitchen, running frantically, empty water gun in hand. 

"What is going on?" Bruce barks, with absolutely zero effect because Jason is there a second later and tackles him through the net door on the patio. 

Martha's utterly charmed watching Bruce drop the exceedingly polite guest act as he scrambled out to the cold patio to scold the gremlins.

Clark shook his head, as the drill sergeant Batman voice filtered into the house.

Both boys are grinning when they enter, still bickering, utterly unabashed. But they do apologize to Martha and John about the door.

"I'm very sorry about that. I will pay for the door." Bruce says, dropping back into his seat.

"You raised a good one, Alfred," Martha said, patting the butler's hand.

Clark grinned and Bruce frowned, confused.

i genuinely think that jason could and would be content with an ordinary life, especially if bruce were a civilian too. in another life i would have really enjoyed just being your son. a 10pm bedtime and slippers instead of pixie boots.

#needless to say he is a bleeding heart so he would probably dedicate much of his life helping others #but as a civilian #like. he did not ask to be robin. it was offered to him #and sure he would step up if it was needed but i think that compared with dick for example #there wasn’t really anything that would suggest that jay would go out of his way to hunt criminals on his own at night #he even skipped patrol to do his homework instead in comics come on #i adore jay as robin and jay loved robin more than anything too but ultimately #when in ‘a death in the family’ alfred said that he should be given time to heal when he was given a home first #instead of being put in this role #he was right. #because jay isn’t able to distance himself from pain of other people #which in his robin run causes him to grow more and more restless and slightly bitter #i’m not entirely sure if jay would stay a civilian if bruce never offered robin because having his loved ones so involved in this lifestyle #would make it a risk for him not to be trained at all #and once he was trained he would probably feel like it’s his duty to do the most he can. #but maybe there would be more balance #just thinking out loud don’t mind me #jason todd #dc comics #jay ramblings #jay meta

I will now be personally headcanoning that Bruce pulled Tim aside one day to ask his opinion on if Tim would ever consider changing or adding Alfred to his middle name(s). I've always interpreted Jack Drake as having been abusive towards Tim, due to some of the comics where he's been violent and such (Like the time he destroyed some of Tim's belongings and such when he was angry at him, or the straight up neglect when Jack and Janet went to explore the world regularly and leave Tim behind, forgot his birthday, etc), and so I feel like sometimes Tim would feel icky about keeping his middle name as 'Jackson' after his biological father (I'm surprised he ever kept 'Drake' and didn't just fully move to 'Wayne', but alas). I feel like Bruce would also be aware that Tim sometimes feels left out of the family, especially due to the early years of him and Damian's dynamic and constantly being told he was never Bruce's 'real son'. It doesn't take a lot of common sense to realise those kind of words will linger, even after the brothers have improved their relationship. I had originally thought to consider this with Damian, but he's already named after Thomas, so I feel as though Bruce would choose Tim so that he gets to both honour his second father, and let Tim know that he will always be Bruce's son and a part of the family, regardless of DNA. Tim accepts, and so his middle name becomes Alfred, instead of Jackson.

Alfred doesn't find out until he's going over some family legal documents and sees it. He cries when he does.

#I feel as though Bruce would have also considered Jason especially when Jason adores Alfred #And he knows Jason can also feel estranged from the family for obvious reasons #So I feel he would've discussed it with him too as well as Dick to let them know that he isn't trying to leave either of them out #Or make them feel like they're not his sons. But he thinks it would really help Tim's ongoing doubts whilst ensuring he wasn't named #After his abuser (Again I'm ignoring the Drake thing) #And I think Jason and Dick would be understand of it. Dick is named after his biological dad who he loves so he's all good. And Jason is #Aware that Bruce loves him after some therapy and family counselling sessions that Bruce took them to to improve their relationship #Which worked. So Jason knows Bruce is always going to cherish him as his son despite their history. And also both #Brothers are very aware of Tim's feelings (Jason and Tim have bonded over it. He knows how bad Tim can get mentally when he thinks about it #too much) so Jason is completely fine letting his baby brother have the name. Rereading old Batman comics has reignited my joy for just how much Alfred is loved. Yes, everyone in the Batfam is messy in their own right. Yes, they all have horrific trauma that they choose to either ignore or try to cope with/heal from. Yes, they get into very intense and emotionally fraught fights quite a lot. Yes, they've lost trust in each other and have been painstakingly trying to build that trust back up. Yes, more times than not the peace between them is extremely fragile and easy to break.

But one of the things that remains constant is that every single member of the Batfam loves Alfred and would willing drop everything just to be there for him. And by fucking god, does this man deserves all that love and more!
