we really didn't get violent enough about roe v wade being overturned. but and also - you're one person. you donated money. you went to the protest. you did what you could, which felt like doing basically nothing.
recently some big paper published an op ed (why did you even read it? you knew you'd get upset) about how it's gross that men can't find a partner because women don't want to suffer bad dates - they'd rather go to yoga class. you actually laughed - well, yeah! and it was funny until it wasn't, because something about it made your stomach churn. this is the thing, you want to say, but you don't have the words for what the thing is. just that men being bad at dating is your fault.
the thing is also on instagram. you don't know if it's a setting or algorithm thing, but these days, the most hurtful comments always seem to skim the top. simple reaction is don't read the comments but - you're human, so you're curious. you want to respond to every weird, sanctimonious one with replaying something a million times to find evidence they're lying about their gender is literally sexual harassment you shouldn't be proud of this or maybe get a fucking life you absolute dickhead but you've gotten into enough of these battles as a kid. nothing ever resolves. it just makes you upset.
your father was radicalized. the thing is - you go to therapy about it and yet never find the words for exactly the way that one hurts.
the other day your sister predicted that a commercial that aired during the superbowl was going to cause trouble. you wanted her to be wrong about that. this morning, while scrolling, you saw someone post exactly that - he got so angry i had to leave. it was terrifying. it reminds you, however bleakly: there are entire swathes of people who do not worry about domestic violence. who have no idea why you would put keys into your fist. who do not understand "it's better to be rude than dead." who have never googled am i being gaslit.
the other day you found out there's a bill that would make it so if you have a uterus and are braindead, you could fulfil your cattle purpose and carry a fetus to term. you think about the fact that the leading cause of death for pregnant people is murder. you think about ongoing and informed consent. you think about how, out of fear, if your ex boyfriend had pressured you, you absolutely would have said yes to it. in the comments, you write there is no way that these documents wouldn't be immediately forged. this is going to be misused. and then just delete it, sighing. get up and go to work.
the other day they overturned roe v wade. we weren't nearly violent enough about it. somewhere, a clock is ticking. it's been ticking a long time. you want to say it's time, but it's been time for a while, hasn't it.

MDZS Disco Elysium AU part 2 - Psyche Skills
Part 1 - Part 3
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#disco elysium#MDZS disco elysium au#jiang cheng#jiang yanli#yu ziyuan#While it's more in vogue to draw a character's skill roster tailored to them -#One of the more subtle details I love in DE is how some of the skill portraits parallel character portraits of people hbd associates with.#Theres somethine rather poetic to be said about how other people shape out thoughts and sometimes act as a 'voice' in our head.#How we are in part a collection of impressions other people left behind on us.#I am a huge Skillhead (Those are my friends! My party members! They love me! They have their own agendas and alliances!)#so of course a healthy portion of this AU is dedicated to them <3#the Int skills go basically unchanged from DE. Psy as well (with changes to a few quirks in voice).#Fys skills though...well...wwx is in a different body! Those voices belong to Someone Else.#Esp electrochem (MXY in this AU also partied to near death. WWX is withdrawing and craving substances he's never even heard of before)#While I personally don't fully subscribe to Volition Jean I *do* see Volition Jiang Cheng. The voice of your Not Brother keeping you afloat#All three of these parallels make me unbelievably sad. They are also both purple. Art is like that sometimes.#Empathy Jiang Yanli...oh man do I have a lot of thoughts about her. Disco fans Who Know....you can probably see what I'm cooking.#Authority is a really interesting skill in DE because *yes* its about power and intimidation - but it's also about finesse and respect#Titus Hardie and YZY both abuse *and* finesse how they establish their authority - in a way that leaves quite an impression.#2 more mdzs disco posts that I *need* to create and then I'm off to working on raffles <3

.I’m tired of ‘implied’ or ‘left up to interpretation’ aromantic coded characters. .I’m tired of having to just hope that the characters I see myself in are actually like me, or hope that they’re not conveniently paired up or changed by the end of the media for the sake of whatever. .I’m tired of most aromantic representation we do have being nothing but a mentioned-once fact outside of the media, easily forgettable and able to be pushed to the side when wanted to. .I’m tired of us being left out of queer spaces - that even in media that includes all sorts of queer identities, characters like us are nowhere to be seen.
.I want aromantic characters. .I want explicitly stated to be-aromantic characters. .I want characters that say or mention they’re aromantic in the media they’re in itself. .I want characters that are unapologetically aromantic, aromantic characters of all kinds, throughout the spectrum. .I want aromantic characters like me: non-partnering, no romantic attraction at all, romance repulsed, and it’s not treated as a ‘flaw’ or something to be ‘fixed’. .I want aromantic characters, and I’m sick and tired of feeling left out when it comes to being represented in media. .We deserve better than that. .We shouldn’t have to settle for the little things, for lesser. .We deserve better.

getting tired of people being butthurt that Tolkien didn't include a token female dwarf in the Hobbit company or a girl member in the Fellowship or whatever. Tolkien fought in World War I okay, he fought alongside and in the company of other men and his stories are going to reflect that. The book wasn't written in a vacuum and it can be gender-unbalanced without being problematic or sexist, and I don't see why we have to "acknowledge" that it's sexist "by today's standards" because it's literally not even sexist by TODAY'S standards, it just so happens that not everything is about you all the time. "Today's standards" can and should include being intelligent enough to discern the difference between values dissonance and just having a justifiably different context for writing in

Prompt 241
Wing au? Wing Au. With perhaps a bit of a twist. Also a hint of eldritchness perhaps. For fun!
Ghosts have wings. Sure, they aren’t normally seen, not in the visible spectrum, but they do. Scanners pick them up, and sometimes a ghost might even reveal them, which was hypothesized to be some sort of animalistic intimidation attempt. (Something more than one Amity Parker rolled their eyes at)
Everyone had seen them at least once- the motorcycle-driving ghost’s mass of shadowy feathers, the green-haired girls matching shaggy ones, the rocker’s ones that looked like pages of music before bursting into flame. Even the box ghost’s had been spotted- feathers looking more like sheets of cardboard than anything else.
It wasn’t until the whole kidnapped to the ghost zone that anyone saw Phantom’s, but that was another tale unto itself really. Honestly the arrival of the GIW would have maybe been seen as positive before, but the fact that many of them had looked in the mirror or gone to the doctors only to find feathers beginning to sprout on their back soured it.
Especially as the GIW continues to prattle on and on about how all ecto-contaminated scum are less than human, less than bacteria. And well, what does that make them? Them, who have been to the realms of the dead and gods and back, touched by the swirling green energy in ways incomprehensible? Changed by that energy?
So the people silently brush hidden feathers together, quietly rebuff the white-wearing lunatics from the city as best they can, and hope to anything listening that they can stop anyone else from disappearing. That maybe they can find the few no one noticed had been taken before it’s too late, even if they have to tear down the entire government to do it.

If you’ve ever gone to a Mountain Goats show and waited in line outside for hours or gotten chummy with folks in the crowd, you know how deep the lore runs. It can make you feel small in the blink of an eye. Your undying love for “Cubs In Five” becomes instantly overshadowed by the guy with a tape recorder in his pocket who can recite setlists from 2004 gigs in states the Mountain Goats rarely make it out to anymore. But what’s beautiful about that scariness—even if you feel like your fandom is not enough—is that...there is such an undercurrent of love, affection and hope at every turn. At some point over the last 30 years, these people found Darnielle’s writing—be it via his boombox recordings or via the label-backed, concept-album concertos—and elected to devote a piece of themselves to loving these songs so much that, no matter what mix-and-matched setlist is thrown at them, they are ready to sing along with every note.
hey guys this tMG article is really fucking good and I think everyone should go read it

the webcomic can have one (1) funny "earnest moment interrupted by comedy" joke. as a treat. but also because it is so in character for them ajkshdjkas
yes they will say the most earnest shit to each other and then immediately try to cringe out of their own bodies. they are best friends but they would rather jump out of a window before admitting it. they are incredibly devoted and grateful to one another but you could not water board that out of either of them.
the only thing that can get either of them to admit how much they care for each other is if the other is in life threatening danger and not a second before aakjshdks

I don't know if I've seen this said yet, and maybe no one else other than me is thinking it, but here goes:
I can't wait to read Nora's The Sunshine Court. TSC is a lovely gift from an author ten years later, and she has every right to do with her characters as she wishes. They are hers, and we'll be lucky to see her vision of the characters she created a decade ago.
But it's also true that we have ten years of fandom making up for lost time. Ten years of running with the tiniest crumbs of canon to weave tales and art of Jean Moreau, Jeremy Knox, and the Trojans. So regardless if Nora makes Jerejean frenemies, platonic, romantic, or other - please don't remove your works just because they don't fit canon anymore.
There are tons of lovely fics, art pieces, podcasts and more out there about the romantic entanglements of Jerejean, Kevjean, Keremy, Kerejean, Laila/Dermott and more. There are multiple stories of growth and friendship and healing between Jean and Jeremy. Of reconciliation and forgiveness and discovery between Jean and Kevin. Of angst and loss and bittersweet dissonance between Kevin and Jean. Of found family and freedom and coming together despite your differences between Jean and the Trojans.
They are still good, they are still worthy, and they are still someone's favorite. Don't squash your creativity or become ashamed if your take on Jean, Jeremy, or the Trojans was different than what Nora pictured. You explored and created something wonderful in a time when there was no canon to follow. You should be proud of what you wrote (or drew or recorded). Just remember there were tons of folks out there that enjoyed them right along with you and would be greatly disappointed if you removed them just because you thought no one would appreciate them anymore.
Much love, AFTG fans ❤️ Let's all enjoy what Nora and TSC has to offer while still supporting each other. Promise we can do both 😉

The discussions of Elizabeth Gaskell always seem to focus on who she's not. She's not Dickens, she's not Austen, she's not Elliot, and she's definitely not one of the Brontes. At best, they'll say she has Dickens' social justice concerns and Austen's country houses, but who is she? What makes her perspective unique?
As I consider this, I keep coming back to, "She's kind."
She is so kind.
There is a compassion in her writing unlike anything I've seen from other authors. She wants to see people. Know them. Understand them. And when she does, she loves them, faults and all.
When she laughs at people, it's not the satire of Austen or the caricature of Dickens--it's a fond, loving laugh that likes these people in all their ridiculousness.
Even when she's pushing a very clear message about how people should or shouldn't act, you never get the sense that she's judging people who fail to live up to that standard--she's just trying to understand how they got to the place where they made the wrong decision.
In her world, people are kind and deserve to be treated kindly. But that doesn't mean that she ignores the darkness in life. She sees the darkness and sin and squalor and says that's why we need to be kinder to each other. Her kindness comes not from ignoring reality but by paying so much attention to reality that she comes to care deeply for everyone. And I just go crazy over it.
