The mafia au returns!

Charlie was pissed.

There was one too many near misses, and now Optimus wanted to visit.

Of course, having him ultimately foot the bill for Dani and Blades's nearly 200k wedding didn't win him any favors, but Optimus was the one who insisted on bringing some government booklickers he hadn't fully made worship him yet to what was supposed to be a small, intimate affair, but at least the other bots that crashed the wedding with Bumblebee had the sense to ditch once Dani and Blades left.

It still irked him that Dani let Bumblebee in, but she was an adult, and if she was fine with her new husband's ex railing him while she tangled herself with Blades's holoform, that's her thing.

But, at least Cody was good at making the old bot melt. Optimus treated him like his own grandson, and Cody was more than happy to play along if it kept the family business running.

But of course, despite Cody's best efforts, Optimus insisted on inspecting the Rescue Bots quarters. Of course, it was the day after he and Chase had to get rid of a problem, and Boulder forgot to clean the floor. He was lucky that Optimus assumed it was from one of his paintings.

Boulder and Graham were under strict orders to hide in the tunnels at all cost, Boulder's almost permanently foggy green optics being a dead giveaway on the science projects he was known to do on the weekends. Graham, at least, sobered up, helped by yesterday's hangover that he kicked just before last night's family dinner. At least he wouldn't sound like a total idiot if he had to play smart over the phone.

Kade was busy bashing some heads, the regular fire engine sitting in Heatwave's old spot.

Chase was on a quick patrol, and the helicopter couple were on their honeymoon in China. It was a not so subtle attempt for Optimus to poach them overseas. Charlie hated it but respected the underhandedness of it all.

It's almost something he would have come up with.

That wasn't a great sign for the future of the family business

i found out yesterday that some of my art that i post on reddit was used by a popular youtuber in that space in her videos. that art was something i did for my own enjoyment, i didn’t receive any money from it and didn’t care because i like doing it, but the fact that a youtuber with almost 200k subs is just farming mine and others’ art for content is so shitty to me. like making ad revenue off of my work that takes me hours to do when i can’t even get my depression meds on time. technically she does “commentary” so it falls under fair use, but it’s literally just reading out the dialogue in my comic strips or just reading out comments from the original post. it simply doesn’t seem derivative enough that it counts as a whole new work idk.

Anyway getting on the fic reading grind. I have two things (adding up to almost 200k) that I’ll read tomorrow, since my schedule is mostly free. There’s still a chance that I’ll have to do stuff though so I don’t know if I’ll be able to get to 200k or leave it at 150k. Planning it out is helping me figure out what to do instead of staring at the 250+ large hoard.

yesterday, as i was scrolling through my facebook feed, i saw my blockmate posting her acceptance letters as a inspiration for upcoming grade 12 shs students. to be enough, at first i thought she was plainly bragging, mainly because this has been my mindset na mapanglait HAHAHA. kidding aside, today i realized that maybe it does pay off to post all those acceptance letters, so today i do the same but on tumblr kasi medj may hiya pa naman ako HAHAHHA.

during 11th grade, i came to a conclusion that i was going to study of psychology as it fit my line of interest, and i was heavily inspired my adviser who is an actual psychometrician and psychologist. this was mostly influenced from what i was going through; the loss of my dad during the pandemic. his sickness brought me into curiosity and i had this mindset that if i could help people in my own way for them not to lose their loved ones this day, i could help people avoid the feeling of pain and grief that i went through. and also because of my brother who actually has a medical illness.

this then led me to applying to the courses psychology & behavioral sciences with communications as my back-up course. requesting for documents was a long ride since of course it was not only me who was requesting for the documents needed. remembering this, i’d like to thank my previous school’ registrar, my adviser, classmates and mom for helping me in the best ways they can. as we were working hard to finish our last year of highschool, we were working our way as well to basically get out of there HAHAHHAAHH. i mainly applied only to the named big four universities with my friends and families influence. all except ADMU which i canceled because of laziness, which i really regret. time flew so fast that as we continued doing requirements throughout the school year, then came the time of the results.

UST results came out first, and after taking the second screening exam i was deemed as qualified. i remember mentioning on my 18th birthday that i will be pursuing my studies there since i guess it was my shs totga ?? and mostly because of ulolquack. about a month later DLSU results came out and after realizing that my course at UST won’t get me to the career i hoped for, i decided to forfeit my slot and now continue at DLSU. oh and by the way, it doesn’t end here yet HAHAHAHAH. the last of all universities, UP. sadly, i didn’t get accepted nor waitlisted in any of the campuses or courses. I thought it would be the end of it, after not being able to pass in the scholarship of DLSU i just couldn’t bear the thought of my mother paying almost 200k for 4 years just to finish my education. until, one morning in july appeals opened for UP and as a very impulse decision just to test my luck in hopes of getting in my dream school.

after days of waiting, i was informed by diwa that my appeal has been approved for organizational communication, which was the course i decided to take at the last minute. i was contemplating to take it since i preferred taking behavioral science, making me almost refuse this offer. but as i’m writing this, after just receiving my UP mail i did accept the offer and i’ve never been more happier.

the people here were so welcoming and kind, unlike in DLSU where there weren’t really assigned students to guide us and just heavily relied on the other students. despite having to go through the long process of introducing, rebranding and getting to know new people once more, it was all worth it to go through. and, i hope its not too early to say this, but i think i’ve finally found my home.

It is liberating at times to feel the weight of choice lifted from me as I surrender to the inevitable, like a fish ready for the gaff. It’s remarkable how that degree of freedom is the highest constraint, which makes no sense as I type it but I can see there’s something in there that needs picking, which means identification.

It fascinates me to see ideas like the Leech lattice come to life in gs terms. What this literally says is that you have almost 200k pair choices to any grid square. And these are grid squares because the covering radius is root2, so D24 is the highest packing together of grid squares to make a pair. Pick one and you have 196,500 neighbors to make 2 with.

And D24 is IC of SBE2. And it’s 8*3, which is fascinating because 8SBE invokes a D3 of 2^3, which makes an SBEcube. Those obviously fit together: the SBEcube has to contain the IC of SBE2. What does IC of SBE2 mean? That is the identity process we’ve described twice now, that this counts SBE2 from the center of the D24 identity. As in, count to the middle, count 2,3,4 from there to make the quadrant. As in, if you switch from f1-3, which is what that was, to another form, you end up starting from the middle and counting all four directions as if at the exact same time.

It was very difficult to accept the translation of IC as the organizing principle of identity counted by SBE. Think about that: IC now arranges counts of SBE2

Look at a count of SBE instead. That’s 12. So you see how that identity differs: it is single checked identity, a string of Ends, and it meets the other thread in 12, which is 2*6. That 2 expresses the count of End and End, but also the segments. That is, a complete count of 2 is End-1Segment-End-1Segment, which is 1-0-1-0, because that allows the string to continue by adding an End. If you start with the 1Segment, then it is 0-1-0 because you count 1Segment-End-1Segment. This is important because, like above, there are a lot of next door neighbor grid squares in D24. In other words, you’re identifying 2Ends over SBE2. This can map as two spins around a Hexagon, which is important because then you can count the spins so they identify the edges which connect the identity together and to others.

And that’s an important part of larger identity: a D24 has a central End. So we’ve mapped these ideas to stuff like centralizers and involutions. Why? Because we’ve placed SBE connected Ends in pairs. This is why we can have groups over a lattice like the Leech. I need to understand what I just typed.

I just realized the tetrahedron discussion yesterday not only generated a Hexagonal layer but it’s a honeycomb lattice because you can represent the exterior Ends of the connected but not overlapping Hexagons in 2 colors, in pairs, and that leaves the other Hexagonal layer’s center Ends as the Ends that count in, like, a different color. In other words, the layers coincide and you can call that a third color relative to the 2 colors that would pair where? Around the bT centers, meaning the Hexagon centers which are the ‘tips’ of tetrahedrons. So, it is these tips which pair. A pair of tips.

I think one reason I said there are groups within the lattice is that we now see pairs from the center to the edges. And that means you can order and arrange pairs, which means you count.

That was an extremely hard won realization. It’s very basic. I mean, in terms of groups and the like, it barely qualifies as a thought in importance, but it connects the SBE process to the Leech and other lattices.

I need to post this because this feels like what I’ve been reaching for. It seems to unify the ideas. I’m running through them and they’re spooling in seamless order. That has never happened.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Life In Reverse tops the list (11066), aka my 200k Loki-centric post-Thor AU fic that I wrote between 2012 and 2018 and with which I have a decidedly complex relationship at this point. I love it but also I no longer think it’s my best work but also I credit it with teaching me a fuck of a lot about writing and writing longer projects in general.

With Absolute Splendor is rapidly catching up, to my astonishment (6559), despite having been posted for less than half as long. Aka the wedding planning fic that’s really just me mucking about in my Jiang Cheng and my Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian feelings, at length.

some good mistakes (4618) was my first foray into the Untamed version of “characters who hate each other going on resentful roadtrips together, feat. Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng.” I have gone on to write others and will continue to write more.

Unraveling (3069) is a little bit of a surprise but also not - it was originally just sort of WWP stuff for my ‘what if people remembered that blunt force trauma is a really bad thing actually’ problem that pops up sometimes, re: Loki at the end of The Avengers, and then it kind of turned into a whole thing. I personally think it’s the weakest of the installments of the series it belongs to, but it is the first one and also the one that gets least into the broader family dysfunction and depression stuff that probably is less everyone’s thing (but is what came out this fic that mattered more to me, personally).

I am a little surprised to see Steve Rogers’ Halfway House for Notorious Supervillains (3068) here too! I was expecting one of the more...idk, mainstream concepts from the MCU to win out? But I also wasn’t expecting two Untamed fics to make it here, either. But I am stupid proud of this fic even if it is very extraordinarily unfinished. This is one of those unfinished fics that will nag at me unless and until I finish it, at least a little, because the concept - if I do say so myself - is so goddamn good and I think I was executing it pretty well, too.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Pretty much never. I was never very good at it and now I’d feel like I had to go back and reply to all of them and I just. I can’t do that. and when I do try to just start at the beginning I get overwhelmed very fast and start avoiding it.

Basically I decided that if it’s a decision between wrestling with myself to reply to comments versus actually doing more writing I’m going to end up landing on the latter as feeling both more doable and more productive.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

probably it’s The Worlds Forgotten, the Words Forbidden for sheer level of “so then what was the point” of it all. but like. I’ve definitely written a few extraordinarily miserable fics, and by “a few” I kind of mean “a lot.” Other nominees I’d put down might be nor autumn falter (for currently personally making me suffer most), once there was a way to get back home (for I think having the ouchiest summary), and Waiting for the Summer Rain (which remains one of my personal favorite Supernatural fics I wrote).

but like. there are 43 fics I have marked with Major Character Death warnings and every single one of those, pretty much, has a downer ending.

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I have written several though not in a long time! My craziest probably remains the Morgoth/Cthulhu short I wrote that actually got sporked because someone took it seriously (???) enough to do that. But the craziest that actually has any merit, (I’d argue) is probably the Maeglin/Viserys one.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yeah, a few times on a few different things. More if you count “people who seem to like the fic but love telling you how much they hate the female characters you’re writing about in it” as ‘hate’ which I would but isn’t, you know, quite as straightforward. If I had a nickel for every time someone bitched about Jane in Life in Reverse, though...lots of nickels.

Do you write smut? if so what kind?

Sure do! But what does ‘what kind’ mean, I don’t know how to answer that question. I feel tempted to just put in my “Mike’s Hard Kinks” image edit in this space.

I guess usually I tend to write smut that at least involves a little bit of a kink? I don’t think I’d feel comfortable writing entirely kinkless smut. I think I’d feel weird about it, the same way I do when I write really nice fic, generally.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I think I did back when but I don’t remember anything about it. I feel like it was one of those mass data scraping things where my fic happened to be among those caught up in it.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I have! several actually, mostly into Russian and Chinese. every time it happens I’m immensely flattered that someone wants to put in that kind of work on something I wrote.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I think I’d be very, very bad at it.

What’s your all time favorite ship?

Depends on when you ask me! I could probably give you a top five but then I’d remember six that I forgot to mention five minutes later. I guess if I were to think about ships that feel like they hold very special particular places in my heart... Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen, Steve Rogers/Loki, and Min/Rand come to mind.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

oh god do you want the whole list cause honestly I could just like. screencap the entirety of my “in progress” folder with a crying emoji watermarked over it. and that’s not getting into the fics that are like...half formed babies in my consciousness but not anywhere on paper.

and also I just hate to admit that I might not finish something.

you know what? the Lucifer/Good Omens crossover I started would’ve been a lot of fun. I’m probably never going to finish it, but it would’ve been great if I had. I know other people did it too but my contribution could’ve been amazing.

I can say this very boldly with the near certainty that I’m not going to finish the fic so no one will be able to disagree.

(...also the Last Herald-Mage fix it. that was going to be a good fic too, and also will probably languish unfinished forever.)

What are your writing strengths?

I’m pretty sure dialogue is my strongest point. Dialogue and emotions, which is why I always end up just wanting to write about characters talking and having feelings at each other.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing action sequences throws me into conniptions every time I have to do it and I will take drastic actions sometimes to avoid doing it at all, which probably weakens the work as a whole.

Also, I don’t plan ahead and this means I write myself into corners kind of a lot. If I wasn’t writing long, dense fic it wouldn’t be a problem but here we are.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I tend to avoid it unless it’s in the context of, as in CQL/MDZS fic, leaving certain terminology untranslated. I’m pretty sure I almost never write full exchanges of dialogue in a different language than I’m using for the narration within a fic, and generally speaking my reaction to other people doing it is at least mildly negative.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter was technically the first fandom I wrote for, but it was a crack fic I wrote to make my friends laugh more than anything; I tend to count Wheel of Time as my first actual fandom for which I wrote my first actual fic.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

some days the answer is “all of them” and some day the answer is “I don’t like anything I’ve written in my entire life” and I never like giving this a definitive answer. yesterday I reread efforts in a common cause (the bound copy!! thanks @spockandawe) and you know what, that was a good fic and I’m proud of it, so I’m going with that one, for this meme, today.

1. Do you have a word-count goal for the upcoming year?

Since I actually did manage to hit 200k this year I want to at least hit that again, if not surpass it.

5. Which WIP is first on your list to complete this year? Will you post a snippet?

You already know this answer and I posted a snippet on Monday, but I will post a little bit more I guess (it’s from the middle because I wrote it yesterday know you haven’t seen it yet)

When TK arrived at Carlos’s house at the end of his shift, the lights were on.

He frowned at the illuminated windows. It was well past 4 in the morning and Carlos’s shift hadn’t ended until midnight. TK had figured he’d be asleep by now. He let himself in quietly, dropping his keys on the table by the door with care. He slipped off his shoes and headed towards the bedroom. Carlos must just have left the lights on before he went to bed. TK only hoped he hadn’t waited too long for him - a massive apartment fire had caused their shift to go longer than expected, his own mandatory trip to the ER (at his dad’s insistence) notwithstanding.

Really after the night he had had all TK wanted was to scrub the soot off of him, let the heat of the shower soothe his aching muscles, and fall into bed next to Carlos for a long and peaceful sleep.

His journey to the bathroom was interrupted when he turned the corner and noticed a figure in the kitchen. He jumped and when his heart rate went back to normal he shot an accusatory look at Carlos, who was seated at the counter.

“Carlos! You almost gave me a heart attack! What are you still doing up? I figured you’d be in bed by now.”

“I was waiting for you.”

TK was about to tell Carlos he shouldn’t have, that sleep was important. He was combing through flirty comebacks when something clicked in his mind. Carlos’s voice didn’t sound right. He frowned and stepped closer to the counter and Carlos, “Are you okay Carlos? You sound weird.”

6. Which yet-to-be-started fic is first on your list?

There are so many. You have heard about some of them, but I have so many more. I guess I’ll list an idea I had while talking to Jamie the other day. We were talking about Gwen and I had the idea to do a story I got a feeling it’s time to let go but from Gwen’s perspective

9. Short term goals… what do you hope to complete this week or in January?

There are two fics I am going to complete in January, but I’d like to get at least one more done plus some ficlets. But really who knows what I’ll be inspired to write after the premiere!
