Happy birthday to Malcolm Little/ Malcolm X/ El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz

A great man, a great leader, a great speaker, a great revolutionary. From studying him when I was a teen and still on into adulthood, I have become better at mind control (controlling your own mind by thinking and acting for yourself). My father also played a huge part in me developing mind control at a young age. And from studying how he did things, as well as how my father taught me from childhood, I have become an autodidact in many things. My art being one of those things. In regards to this blog & Dragon Ball, I apply Malcolm X's teachings in just about all that I do.

I don't let my enemy/opponent control my thoughts and I do not let them control the narrative of hating Earthlings (specifically Krillin) as they please. I do not need to engage and debate them at every turn because my enemy has made up their mind. I speak to people like me and to those who seek truth. And I do my utmost to speak in a way that is undeniable and based in facts as opposed to the majority who base their thoughts off of lies. I know my enemy's talking points and how to counter them. I know the subject matter better than my enemy in order to shut down the lies they spread. I learn how the mind works in order to dismantle their flawed logic. I speak with "an open hand" or "a closed fist" when needed. I create my own narritive without relying on those who are popular who have power over the simple-minded people of the fandom. I take my time with my research to make sure my logic has no holes in it in order to combat whatever misinformation is out there. The majority of the DB fandom aren't against us. Only certain ones who hold influence and some others. Many just go along with lies that are constantly repeated by influential people (those with a big following and those with small followings who repeat lies ppl enjoy hearing). I want to continue to be a positive influence of truthfulness against those hateful lies that have poisoned the fandom. And to do so, what I do must stick in your head. Which is why I choose to associate my content with truth and comedy as well as other ranges of emotional responses. Truth is knowing & can be understood by all. Laughing is feeling & can be felt by all. If I can make you have those two things, then I have succeeded. Those unlike us who enjoy lies can only make a person have a raw uneducated emotional response. They cause others to know less so that they can be easier to control. I do not require control of your mind. I only intend to nudge you in the direction you seek & are already on. I cannot nudge those who enjoy lies in the same direction you want to head to. Their mind is already made up. No reason to change the mind of a purposeful fool. Let fools be who they are. Their ideas are rooted in opinion, made up facts that they themselves control. Mine and yours are rooted in fact. They have rudimentary knowledge. We have deep knowledge rooted in truth.

The one thing I am still practicing is how to be more outgoing and more outspoken. I don't like to over speak another person because I like to show respect. But I have to train myself that ppl in present day speak with less respect more and more. So I must speak with more power. I also need to schedule things I have planned in a better way so I can interact more with those in my circle. Follow our code of respect & build more mutural respect for each other in order to stand together against those who hate Krillin & other Earthlings. And once I am more organized, I will be able to produce more content in many forms. I do my best to make sure I am not overconfident. That means that I have overlooked something due to arrogance. So, I keep a calm level of confidence. And if I do not know something, I will admit such and will seek correction when necessary.

And the content I make is fashioned to reach the root truth in the mind of those who seek it. Because a smart man does not rely on his enemy to speak for him or do for him. His enemy will tell him & others like him that there is no fight. His enemy will create a narrative to sabotage him. However, a mentally strong man does not sway from the truth. He stands firmly in it regardless of what comes his way & what opposition he faces. He does not accept payouts to do what he disagrees with and speaks against. He is courageous. He does not back down. He strategizes. He puts plans into action. He inspires others just as others inspired him. He makes it so that others can take what he says and use their knowledge in a similar manner he does in different aspects of life (the fandom or in real life).

I cannot be "defeated" by anyone. No enemy is on my intellectual level in terms of truth nor is any enemy on the level of some of my peers. Only I can defeat myself by turning against what I promote. And that... I will never do.

If not tubes its phono cartridges

The science people strike back!

The people at https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?reviews/ are at it again. They have added phono cartridges to testable things. Kinda tricky as you need a test record and some digital stuff, but that is not at all what I want to discuss first.

One of the people there found a old article in a Canadian Magazine of all places about blind testing of phono cartridges. A cardinal rule of audio reviewing is to NEVER do blind testing. You cannot use cost, brand, and exclusivity to rank products. It was a blind test where Bob Carver won his bet to make his cheap amplifier sound like a super high end unit.

The "reprint" is a series of images of the pages from the old rag. If the magazine still exists there may be copyright issues. I read through it all. Is it not wonderful when you have your own opinions confirmed by honest studies?

Basically the story boiled down is the only difference between good cartridges is very small to almost statistically insignificant factors. And those differences may be due to small frequency response deviations that can be removed by using a multiband equalizer. Scandal!

They do note that moving coil types have high frequency resonances. Those are appreciated as detail and air in many descriptions. Those are the very things that the Sound Smith guru Peter Ledermann dislikes about MC types.

My take on that is if it is not on the record you should not be hearing it.

One thing hinted at is how well the auditors can hear. Do they like rising treble to compensate for old person's hearing? I can only hear to 12 kHz so 18 or 20 kHz means damn little to me. Do golden ears have their ears calibrated? I bet not.

The MCs in the test were an Ortofon and a Denon. The Denon is still made and is the popular 103. The MM noted is actually an MI type being the venerable Shure V15 IV. Once you are at a certain level of quality it does not get better, only different. Sounds like my favorite tune don't it?

More generally I looked at some of the plots they have. Almost all have a rising top end over 10 kHz. Often that is an impedance artifact from capacitive loading. My AT440 Mla was very nasty in the treble with any more than 100pf. They do not have it in the list.

Crosstalk is generally not great. I have only one of the current results, it is an AT7V. I do not run the tracking force they show as 2.0g. I have it at 1.6g and it is fine. Cross talk falls from the bass and is respectable. Rising is distortion in 2nd and 3rd harmonics. There is also a noticeable rise in the bass.

My Grado Opus 3 lists the channel separation as 30 db average from 10 Hz to 30 kHz on the Grado site. I wonder how it would test here?

Generally the plots show remarkably linear response for most examples. Cross talk in the Bass is expected if they actually mix it together to almost mono there.

They list that they have tested a Signet Tk7e. Could not find the results plot. I like that one a lot. I should pull it out of the box and into the phazer for fun. I have a newer stylus for it. It is a compatible not the actual proper one. Those have not been made for decades.

I can roll phono pickups. I think that is more legitimate that rolling tubes.

STUDY OF OPIOID MISUSE AND DEVELOPMENT OF MAJOR DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY

Introduction:

I became interested in opioid use problems after reading the NESARC codebook and hearing about opioid abuse in the news.  The US is in the midst of an opioid overdose epidemic, and I wanted to see if overprescription of opioids is contributing to additional mental disorders in our society by looking at opioid usage and recent diagnoses of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. 

Research Question:

Is there a relationship between developing a major depressive illness or a generalized anxiety condition after using opioids?

Hypothesis:

I wanted to learn if opioid over prescription and abuse can lead to mental diseases besides dependence/abuse.  Even though opioids are used to treat anxiety when used within specified guidelines, my belief is overuse and abuse of opioids can also contribute to mental illnesses such as major depression and generalized anxiety.

NESARC Codebook Sections and Variables:

Looking through NESARC codebook, I decided to take into consideration the unique identification number (IDNUM) and the variable (AGE) from the background information (SECTION 1). For the first question topic I chose, from the drug / medicine use section (SECTION 3B), to include the percentage of people who ever used opioids (S3BQ1A3), as well as the period of this use [last 12 months / prior to last 12 months / both periods] (S3BD3Q2B) and the frequency when used the most (S3BD3Q2E).  For the second topic, I selected the variable of non-hierarchical major depression diagnoses, in last 12 months (MAJORDEP12) and the variable of non-hierarchical generalized anxiety diagnoses, in last 12 months (GENAXDX12), which are included in the diagnoses section (SECTION 14).

Literature review:

I did a literature review using Google Scholar, and found several studies on the relationship between opioid use, depression and anxiety.   There was a rather strong correlation between opioid use in the past 12 months and the development of major depression (1).  However, onset of depression was associated with longer duration use of opioids and not dose (2).  Opioid use also was found to increase development of anxiety and depressive disorders (3).  Finally, it was found that opioid use disorder and anxiety disorders co-occur at strikingly high rates, and this comorbidity is marked by a more severe clinical presentation and poorer prognosis for treatment. Given the substantial morbidity and mortality associated with these disorders, it is important to understand factors related to the high rates of co-occurrence in order to develop specialized treatments for this population (4).

Non-Controversial Loki Headcanons for These Trying Times

1.) Loki has had dozens of Midgard-based aliases over the years, for no other reason than the fact that he was bored and it was funny. DB Cooper was one of them. Hank Williams was another. He may or may not have even pretended to be a vampire at some point.

2.) Loki can definitely sing. Not just in a funny ironic way, but like.. he actually enjoys singing. It shouldn’t even come as a surprise considering he’s such a fine arts nerd, but yeah. He plays the guitar too. Surprisingly folksy.

3.) Loki’s rooms in Asgard literally look like a witch’s lair. I mean straight up spooky. All dark earth tones, spellbooks strewn everywhere, runes drawn on the walls to keep certain big brothers from messing with things they have no business messing with, vials of poisonous stuff sitting on every available surface, shelves full of strange little trinkets and talismans, a dramatic ass medieval-looking bed, a whole ass cauldron… and then in the corner on a stand there’s his Hank Williams Guitar aasdfghhjkl-

4.) When people call Loki a witch, they’re not joking. He’s. Like. An actual stereotypical, like.. witch. He doesn’t just do finger wavy magic- he mixes potions, he does rune work, he recites spells, he has a cauldron.

5.) He also used to dress super witchy. Used to. Past tense. I’m talking black nail polish, lots of necklaces, rings, eyes makeup (ok maybe I wouldn’t go that far, but Loki in eyeliner would be pretty hot, right?), clothes that were like.. 15% scarier yet more fashionable than the ones he wears in canon. The only reason he toned it down was because someone whose opinion he cared about (it was Thor) made a joking comment about his appearance looking “wicked” or “evil” and it made him feel self conscious, so he changed how he dressed. :(

6.) He was rocking the whole short hair look years before Thor in Ragnarok. In fact, by pre-canon Loki’s standards, his hair in Thor 1 was even a bit too long. He did this because a.) he hates how his natural curls soften him and will do anything to get rid of them and b.) in Asgard short hair wasn’t really worn by noblemen because it symbolised servitude, so this was Loki’s subtle way of being defiant and deviating from the norm.

7.) As Frigga said in Endgame, Loki is very good at sneaking. Even when he’s not trying to. There have been many-an-accident in the Palace of Asgard because he unintentionally almost gave Thor a heart attack.

8.) Loki and Thor weren’t always at each other’s throats. They actually got along pretty well up until Odin started planning for the coronation. Loki was still jealous of the way Thor was treated compared to the way he was treated, but he knew that wasn’t Thor’s fault- not really. And Thor was still arrogant and entitled, but that was mostly directed at other people and not his own family, so while Loki knew about Thor’s character flaws, it didn’t really effect him personally. When the planning started, though, Thor gradually became even more superior and insufferable than normal, and Loki became even more bitter and unsettled, and their relationship just kind of went downhill from there.

9.) Loki absolutely joined the Mile High Club with that flight attendant from the first episode of the show. Her name was Florence and she was adorable, Loki thought so too.

10.) Loki’s the only person on Asgard who can beat Volstagg at an eating competition. He has a giant’s metabolism, after all. And, contrary to his elegant and refined tastes in most other areas, he’s actually a straight-up carnivore. I mean he eats other foods too, obviously, but meats are by far his favourites. Boar, fish, poultry, steak. Just meats. He doesn’t know it, but this is because frost giants are mostly carnivorous.

11.) His relationship with the Warriors 4 was always split down the middle. He and Sif always hated each other. Hogun never trusted him and Loki never had any interest in spending time with Hogun. Fandral and Volstagg, on the other hand, were always much nicer and Loki always sort of considered them his friends as well as Thor’s. This is why they were more reluctant to believe that he’d let the frost giants in in Thor 1.

12.) I refuse to believe Loki doesn’t have at least one tattoo somewhere. Probably more. Probably of a snake. The only parts of his body we didn’t see naked in Episode 1 were his thighs, lower back, knee area, pelvic region, and the back of his neck. So it’s gotta be in one of those places. (Might I suggest: snake thigh tattoo, tiny nape tat, goth tramp stamp lol, rune tat behind his ear, Norse mythos leg tat, badass above-dick tattoo).

13.) Loki’s prickly and insecure and has layers like an onion, but once you get to the point of actually being friends with him, he’s a total sweetheart. I mean a literal smol dork. A bit hyperactive and excitable, but still very very soft. It’s because he’s had so few actual friends in his life.

14.) Sometimes Loki only goes a few days before his gender changes, sometimes he stays one gender for years at a time. And he tends to shapeshift his body to match. That being said, one of his biggest pet peeves is how his other-gendered clothes get all dusty and musty when they have to stay in the closet for long stretches of time. So he’s taken to wearing luxurious gowns around the house when he’s in his male form. You know, just to air them out.

15.) Loki hates sleeping with people. Sex is fine, but he’s just so solitary and paranoid that he’s never been comfortable sleeping in a bed with another person. This may or may not have gotten him in trouble a few times when his partners woke up and found him gone lol.

16.) Laufey is actually incredibly similar to Loki, the way Odin is very similar to Thor. He prefers smaller blades (ice daggers), he’s very analytical and calculating, he’s very calm and non-confrontational even when he’s in a stressful situation, and tbh he seems like a better king than Odin- much like Loki probably would’ve been a better kind than Thor. (Whoopsie this one’s a bit controversial)

17.) Loki adores animals! …But he’s also a bit obsessive about keeping his environment clean. Not organised, per se, just clean. And animals tend to be hairy and slobbery and feathery and slimy and poopy and dirty, so he’s never been able to have a pet. He just takes a lot of nature walks to compensate :)

18.) All jotuns are naturally intersex, including Loki. This is a bit unusual for Asgardians, but because Loki is genderfluid and a natural-born shapeshifter- and has always had a tendency to change his body parts around as his gender changes (male, female, both, neither)- he’s never had a reason to find it very odd. In hindsight, that was one of the many eccentricities that should have made him realise something was a little fishy with his “asgardian” genetics.

19.) The snake + stabbing story from Ragnarok was nowhere near as nefarious as Thor made it seem. What actually happened was: Someone accidentally mixed a real knife in with the blunted practice knives. Thor and Loki didn’t know this, of course, and when they were playing a battle game, Loki ended up with the real knife. When Loki “won” and went to “vanquish his enemy” he ended up actually stabbing Thor for real. They were both hysterical and it took longer to calm Loki down than his brother. It ended up just being a flesh wound, though, so everything turned out fine.

20.) A lot of people think Loki discovered his “secret passageways between worlds” from TDW through some sort of inter-realm questing or magical study or something, but in reality, he discovered them when he was like 16 and desperately trying to find a way to sneak out of Asgard without Heimdall telling his parents.

5. Is Luke a soft boy or feral?

I think he’s typically too kind and polite to be considered feral. He loves sweaters and teddy bears which is much more of a baby move. That being said, DB/PB Luke doesn’t care and goes bonkers.

9. Does Desmond teach (as opposed to just studying)? If so what’s he like as a teacher!

I never imagined him as a teacher honestly. The Professor title has to come from somewhere, but I can’t picture him teaching an actual class. His passion for archeology is pretty personal, so I’d imagine he’d keep it more to himself. But if he did teach, I’d imagine him as the type of teacher who thinks really niche archeologist facts are common knowledge and is confused when his students don’t know this stuff yet even though they have no experience. He’s probably a bit of a hardass when it comes to rules and deadlines, but at least he doesn’t run off on crazy adventures as often as Layton.

11. What hobbies does Flora have?

Flora needs hobbies. She probably has a ton. As everyone has said, she obviously likes cooking and murder mystery books. I bet she’s trying to follow in Bruno’s steps by studying robots and trying to make lifelike bodies and AIs. Maybe she starts with little animals like the robot dog instead of going straight for humans.

Popular opinion, but she’s into fashion so she likes shopping and even sewing her own designs from scratch. I hc that she plays acoustic guitar in her free time, too. I also think she takes her fascination with murder mysteries a step further by actually solving real cases.

ESSENTIAL PIECES OF EQUIPMENT FOR YOUR HOME GYM

The real question is, "What do you require?" Obviously, it depends on your situation and what you want to achieve – if you live on a farm with a running track outside, you probably don't need a treadmill – but there are some items we would consider "essential" if you're building a home gym. So here are the top ten essential pieces of equipment for your home gym; if you think we missed something, please contact us and let us know why!

Dumbbells (DBs) – Dumbbells (DBs) are extremely versatile. There is an almost limitless variety of exercises available, ranging from bodybusting thrusters to muscle pumping shoulder accessory lifts like side raises. A minimum of three pairs of DBs would be ideal, with a heavy set, a medium set, and a light set. I would always recommend erring on the heavy side for your heavy and medium sets because you can always use only one of them to cut weight. I would choose rubber HEX dumbbells over any other type.

Kettlebells – When used properly, the kettlebell can function as a full-fledged gym in its own right. The kettlebell is best known for the kettlebell swing, but it can also be used for a variety of exercises ranging from goblet squats to get ups and snatches. The kettlebell must be used correctly, which is why it did not take the top spot. Get a coach or follow accounts like @kettlebellqatar to learn how to use them. Choose unpainted, no-rubber, powder-coated cast iron.

Pull up bars – Because pull ups and other gymnastic movements (knee raises, L sits) are so beneficial, a pull up bar should be included in any top home gym. However, they take up a lot of space and require a strong attachment – door frame pull up bars work, but make sure they are properly secured. Pulling exercises that use the back of the body are likely to be the first to go missing in home workouts, which can result in body imbalance. We are always tempted to train the part of the body we see in the mirror (i.e. the front), but pushing is also a lot easier to train than pulling.

TRX or RIngs – I mentioned the importance of pulling exercises in #3, and the TRX provides that and so much more. A close contender for position 3, the TRX (or rings or another brand) can help you with single leg squats and squatting in general, as well as provide a killer core workout. They can be attached to a wall or even a door, making them extremely versatile. For me, this is a must-have item that can easily be substituted for the pull-up bar.

Skipping rope – Cardio, agility, coordination, and balance in a low-cost, ultra-compact piece of equipment. The list's most efficient piece of equipment. Can't avoid it? Then study!

Medicine ball – Choose a soft, leather style. 35cm balls are ideal for core exercises, power exercises, and even assisted squats. They are not cheap, but they last forever and take up very little space – Rage Flooring – Depending on where you live, some rubber tiled flooring can please your neighbors while also keeping your deposit safe. Many exercises become more comfortable and have a lower impact as a result. 15mm interlocking rubber tiles are the best and easiest to install.

Sandbag – Sandbags are excellent for use in home gyms. Weight adjustment at a low cost

Barbell setup – The barbell and weights are at 9 because, while great, they are not always required for many people and take up a lot of space. Don't bother with 15kg plates; 10s and 5s will suffice. If you are an Olympic lifter, choose a bar with good bushings or spend the extra money on bearings. A bearing bar is not required for standard strength exercises such as squats and deadlifts. Where to buy a barbell – Eleiko if you have the money, but this is a luxury and you can get by with many others. Just make sure it doesn't have a bolt on the end.

Cardio machines – Coming in at number ten, a cardio machine is unquestionably necessary for a 5-star home gym setup. Which one, though? Your first choices are the rower or the bike, in my opinion. Rowers and bikes are 5-10 times less expensive than treadmills, take up less space when in use, and even take up less space when not in use. Rowers, especially the Concept 2, are also very simple in design, so you can't go wrong. Rowers from Concept 2 (no compromises) and bikes from Xebex fitness or Rogue for the airbike style, or Wattbike (premium) or Concept 2 for the more steady state bike. Treadmills are the ultimate luxury if you can't get outside – we prefer natural running machines like the curved Wooster.
