as someone who used to be huge bts fan and biased jimin and jk to now really only caring and being excited about jimin and his art feels so horrible to me tbh but i cant help it jungkook especially made me so dissapointed in this second chapter and i lost so much affection for him. i feel like he lost his appeal to me. Jimin however blew me away smf was just beyond amazing and then face and lc with all the art and heart in it ppl making all kinds of theories connecting him to poems, movies, queer ppl and writting essays about his work. I miss that i miss feeling of excitement and love like that with all 7 of them but jimin just seems to have stolen all my affection. i dont wanna be a solo stan tbh but i feel like i will never like bts as i used to.

Your line of thinking is so categorical, which is something very common when we're operating within a fandom. You mentioned lost affection, which indicates why you're feeling like this. It's the emotional involvement that makes us so involved and to feel so strongly about everything they do. And it can be something positive, like you said about Jimin, or something more negative, like your feelings towards Jungkook right now. I think it's easier for us to navigate these conversations once we acknowledge our position and we understand and admit were we're coming from. For example, I know that almost everything of Jimin's work is elevated and given extra importance in my mind because I like him. It doesn't mean that it's false or I made it all in my head, but if I only heard of him vaguely and looked through some of his work, I'd probably say at first "cool dude, he's interesting". And maybe if I was in the mood, I'd look it up more. It's the same as Jungkook fans now defending/celebrating every step of his career in Chapter 2 and they do that just like any other fan of an artist who is deep into a parasocial relationship. (Also, let's no hide or say only a category of fans are like that. Most of us are and we manifest in various ways).

If you want to label yourself as a solo stan, fine by me. Categories can make life easier, but they also limit not just us, but also those we are interested in or we don't really like. To me, this position is not one I would choose and I see the damage. Being so much involved in fandom, from the position of a solo stan, or a particular shipper/supporter or ot7/whatever else there is, can make us obtuse sometimes and more often than not, really mean in an environment in which online bullying is now acceptable. I see what JK solos say about Jimin and I see what Jimin solos say about Jungkook. It's horrible. Not only that, it's predictable because what they say is what is being transmitted throughout their own communities. It's like learning a script, especially when it comes to insults. And one has to be categorical and hateful. Not critical, because that would imply nuance and we know how no one cares about that.

I'm not enjoying the music Jungkook has been putting out in Chapter 2. I'm not enjoying how it's promoted. But to go from there and change my entire opinion seems too dramatic for me. He's not this horrible guy that he's being painted at. Just listen to him talk, watch his wlives. He's still a dork and he seems genuinely nice. I can live with all these thoughts in my head. Like I said, emotional involvement makes us go crazy, but in my case, previous experience with other creative people and celebrities is influencing the way I see things. I have favorite directors/actors that have some films that I consider really bad and so far from some of their earlier good stuff. But the world doesn't end there. It's ok. It's either a phase or they'll go down the hill, but there's still films that I like or I enjoy their way of looking at the world through their art. I like stuff from people I find displeasing, but I can put that aside and only look at the object.

It's the same with Jungkook for me. And if I don't like something, I will not waste my time trying to find excuses for it or defend it just because I like the person.

Just now I saw that clip of Bang PD talking about JK and it confirmed what others and I've been saying since Seven was released. This was Scooter's work, just as 3D and the other songs that will be released on the album. Jungkook in Chapter 2 musically and Golden are now the result of the partnership between Hybe and Hybe America. And it seems that the strategy is to focus on collabs to bring more attention to it, let Scooter gather all the songs and basically set the tone for everything and deliver a recipe for success. Do I wish Jungkook would let himself be convinced to put out a music album by other sort of people and not Bang & Scooter? Yes. But it was his decision and I can only look at the results and say that it's not for me. But I'm talking about it because I have an interest in Jungkook and because I have the right to say it, just like everyone on the internet.

I'm perfectly fine with all of these contradictions, while still expressing some of my frustrations. I won't expect from Jungkook something similar to what Jimin does because artistically they seem to not have that much in common right now, separately. It doesn't mean that I don't consider Jimin's work to have more artistic value. It has and it's something that I'm interested in and to which I pay attention to.

And sometimes, pop music is just pop music and we can simply enjoy it. Theoretically, that's Jungkook's path right now, but given how it came to fruition, the message it sends, knowing what Jungkook is capable of in terms of producing/writing lyrics, then it is disappointing to me. And so be it.

10 Fandoms, 10 Characters

I wasn't tagged by anyone but I saw @timotey do this...and I kind of wanted to do it as well, so here I am. 

Here we go, 10 fandoms and 10 characters that I love within those fandoms. These are in no particular order, I'm just listing them as they come to mind. I hate when people ask, "what's your favorite book, what's your favorite song, who's your favorite character". Like bitch please, I don't even know who I am most of the time and you're asking me these meta-physical kinds of questions? My favorites depend on my mood really. But anyway, I'm done rambling, in case you were wondering, that's the reason why I'm not ranking these characters. 

1. Ryotarou Nogami from Kamen Rider Den-O

Played by the wonderful Sato Takeru. You all know me, I have this weird kind of fetish I guess when it comes to stories that incorporate multiple beings sharing one body. I can’t tell you why, but I just love these kinds of stories. And this show has it in spades. Plus, Ryotarou is such a cinnamon roll, he’s so wonderful, so strong, so upbeat despite life’s hurdles that are constantly thrown at him. He’s great and Sato Takeru is wonderful in this role. 

2. Joxer The Mighty from Xena: Warrior Princess

We love and appreciate complete dorks with hearts of gold in this house. For me, Joxer was the heart of this show and his fate at the end ultimately left a wound that has never completely healed. To this day, I cannot re-watch season 6 of Xena. I refuse to go through that pain of losing this wonderful man again. 

3. Jiang Yanli from The Untamed series

Don’t let her looks fool you. She may seem like this delicate fragile flower but housed within that delicate skin lies the strongest spirit I have ever known character wise. She is definitely one of those characters that is absolutely beautiful inside and out and it’s such a shame her son never got the chance to really know how wonderful and extraordinary his mother truly was. 

4. Piper Halliwell from Charmed

She’s fierce and she gives everything she has for those she loves, and loves just as fiercely. What’s not to love about Piper Halliwell? Don’t answer that, it’s rhetorical. I’m not here for any Piper bashing. 

5. Max Thunderman from The Thundermans

There is just so much dichotomy and nuance with his character and I just love him and his arc so much. Him being the son of heroes and desiring to be a villain but ultimately failing at it because he’s a genuinely good person and a genuine hero. It was so interesting and definitely the stand-out character for me in this show. 

6. Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver from the FOX X-Men Movie Franchise

I love a dork with daddy issues, what can I say?

7. Gohan from Dragonball Z

And I’m not one of those fans who only likes him when he’s displaying power fantasies. No, I love that part of him but I also love the dork in him, I love the nerd in him, I love that he gets in a super hero costume and acts all dorky and uses his saiyan powers to fight crime. I love that as an adult, he’s still trying to figure out where he stands as a human and where he stands as a saiyan. He loves peace but also feels the need to fight as well and I just love watching him trying to essentially navigate between those two personas as well. 

8. Shawn Spencer from Psych

I got to say this is probably the first and only character I’ve encountered where I thought to myself, if this man truly does exist somewhere in this world, I want to marry him, I want to be his Juliet. He’s kind of dumb but also so smart, kind of insensitive but so sensitive in moments where it counts, and he makes me laugh. I don’t know if this person will ever exist in real life within my periphery and ever be available to me, but this is the partner I’m looking for in my life; I’m accepting applications.  

9. Eliot Spencer from Leverage

I’m a shallow girl and sometime I just love a good-looking texan man who can kick some ass. Plus, he also loves and protects children and old people. 

10. Saizo Kirigakure from the Samurai Love Ballad otome game

Hey, it counts, ok? I’ve been playing this game for well over a year now, I’ve played at least once all of the characters and I gotta say Saizo is definitely my favorite. I love his stories, the themes he grapples with and in the confines of the otome game, for me, this is the man the MC truly ends up with, he is who I would pick. Yeah, he comes with baggage but your life is always going to be interesting with him. Plus, he makes me feel some sort of way whenever he calls the MC “little lady”. 

And there you have it, 10 fandoms, 10 characters. This was fun and maybe you guys learned a little bit more about this blue phoenix.

I was wondering do you have any good fanfics to recommend ive been in a fanfic mood but can't find any, most of them stopped updating :(

god i’m honestly not the best person to ask for fics or fandom content in general. i literally don’t interact with the fandom much at all, like, sometimes i’ll go into the main tag and follow someone, but even then it’s very rare for me to follow someone. i like my dashboard small so i can catch up.

also, i only really read fic now once in a blue moon for emotional catharsis. sometimes i just want to feel bad and that’s ok. this also means most fics i read were years ago and i can barely remember anything, and don’t feel safe recommending in case i forget something bad about it. also, my old bookmarks were on a different computer, rip.

so honestly, i’m terrible for recommending fics. i’m only going to recommend one that i’ve reread some-what recently and some art based content. i actually recommend other people to reblog this post with their own recommendations! i just ask that non of them misgender the kids or are gross. just, putting that as a caution, i’m not assuming anyone is going to do that.

1) feeling bonely

the only fic on this list. a human au where sans is suicidal and meets toriel online anonymously through omgle. through the power of friendship and 38 chapters, sans learns how to put in the effort in having friends and making his life better.

this fic is such a comfort to me. it’s got My Brand of sadness that i crave in fics but it’s also so funny, lighthearted, thoughtful and inspiring. i love sans’ friendship with alphys, i love sans being a total dork baby over time travel, i love papyrus learning about depression and helping sans fight it, the salads and rubber bands for coping, i just,, akfjalsjdf its my favorite fic.

its soriel but i believe sans is ace so while romance is a element, sex isn’t which i greatly appericate lmao. since the fic does go into suicide and depression, parental abuse and ableism, ect., i do recommend keeping an eye on the content warnings. it’s also a really long fic but it’s finished.

2) Unexpected Guests

Papyrus summons a full bodied gaster blaster, chaos ensues. It’s a post pacfist comic that is beautifully drawn, is light on angst and has a lot of fun character interaction.

still a wip, but has a substantial amount of reading material you can go through. the story is getting really juicy by having sans finally fess wtf is UP with him. i’m dying to know what happens next!

3) Insomnia

a literal classic that hasn’t been updated in over a year, and it’s been that long since i read it but it’s a fandom classic! the art and it’s vibrant colors still stick to me even now. the story fits lore and real science together, it so detailed and beautiful.

i can’t recall if the author said this will be continued someday or not, i don’t want to spark rumors esp with my shoddy memory so idk! it’s such a fandom classic though, it’s defs worth reading!

ok i don’t THINK thats the title and i could just be oblivious and be misunderstanding here lmao. kan makes really, really good undertale content in general, like, their art is my favorite anything ever. kan covers heavy topics but does so with genuine care and thought. i luv their poncho and chara stuff. i could gush forever.

this comic in particular just started but it is ongoing! they also write fics!

5) EVERYTHING BY MEL

mel has a few askblogs, all of which are fantastic! i haven’t gotten the time to read all of their blogs but like, mel’s characterizations are so good and complex. mel handles the topic of trauma with nuance and it’s all vry good.

everything is on hiatus rn but there’s a big backlog.

6) Askgasterfamily (ok this is me outright cheating here. it’s my askblog)

i have a 4 year old askblog and while i have a lot feelings about it and its not aged the super best in my eyes cause a good chunk of it was written when my mental health utter crap. these last few years have been hard as hell on me and i will not go into why rn cause.. obviously its personal and this ain’t a vent post lmao. i used agf to cope a lot with the shit i was going through, so a lot of is messy.

anyway, summary: the aster family runs a vlog, where people ask them questions about their private life. starts off as a fun slice of life comedy but descends into a sci-fi horror story about depression, morality, and family abuse.

i honestly would recommend just waiting for me to make the animatic film. it’s going to be the definitive version where the story is streamlined and more coherent. i storyboared over a hour of footage but it’s currently undergoing major rewrites as i was unhappy with it, so it’s still going to be a while for it to come out.

aaaaand that’s it for now! that’s all my recs that i can think of. i know the second i post this i’ll think up like, 5 things i could recommend but i’m just gonna leave it as is for now. pls don’t take it personal if i forgot or didn’t put ur fanwork on here.

It’s the mid season turn and we got a brand new OP and ED for Dr. Stone! Am I the only dork that gets excited about that sort of stuff? I liked the old OP better, partly because I’m really fond of Good Morning World as a song but the second ED is just so gawsh darn adorable.

In fact quite a few adorable moments this week. This is a good thing. My week was badly in need of some adorableness!

What I thought Would Happen

I must have gotten the match ups wrong last week. I thought that Kinro would somehow loose last minute but Chrome would win his match and Kohaku would come back in time and obviously win over Senku. Then Ginro would win as well and we would move on to semi-finals.

I figured Kohaku would win against Magma and sort of get revenge for his evil plans on her sister. However, I figured Chrome would win over Ginro and then Kohaku would let Chrome have the ultimate victory which would be super cute as love would have triumphed but Kohaku would also have played an important role in keeping her sister safe.

I don’t know, I just really wanted love to win in the end and I thought that was the most direct way to get to it. Of course this was all based on very flawed match up table so forget it…

What Did Happen

Kinro’s righteousness got the better of him and cost him the match but everyone knows who won in spirit. This said Magama won the match which I was expecting. Then Chrome won his own match but not through his own merit, too bad and they basically threw the match so that Kohaku wouldn’t make it back in time. Being mere seconds late, Kohaku still got disqualified making Senku the winner by default.Ginro did his usual comedic relief thing but managed to win his own match as well, even if just barely.

This meant that the semi finals started off between Magma and Chrome. The second half of the episode was pretty much entirely dedicated to this fight. Unexpectedly (at least to me) Asagiri also chose the middle of this battle to make his come back! cool.

What About the Characters

Last week I started this sections off with: “Have I mentioned how much I like Kohaku?” and I was legit about to do the exact same thing. Word for word. We only saw a bit of Kohaku but she showed that her kindness extends beyond her sister. In fact, she was o.k. with loosing the Grand Bout to save a friend. After all, as long as Ruri is alive, Kohaku would keep on fighting for her but if Suika drowned then there would be nothing left for it. I agree with this thinking but I didn’t expect it from Kohaku. She’s not exactly the single minded character we’ve been led to believe she is. She’s more nuanced and sentimental. Awesome!

Like I said, Ginro revert back to the manic comic relief character but I thought it worked better this week. Not because the character was better balanced or anything but because that type of over the top slapstick was better suited to this particular episode than any we’ve seen before. This said, there is much potential for this character to become very annoying very fast.

This being a almost entirely action driven episode, there really wasn’t that much time for character development and that’s fine. we’re at episode 14, we know all these guys pretty well. We don’t need to have a big revelation every week!

What I Liked

I hinted about this a lot but the moment between Kohaku and Suika was just lovely. I got teary eyed. It was just such a sweet display of tenderness between all this fighting that brought a sweet tonal contrast and balanced the episode out.

And you know what, it’s sappy and improbable but I also was pretty psyched that love triumphed. I root for Chrome and his love life. And his victories made me genuinely happy. I still liked my weird and impossible set up better but it was not possible. So this is the next best thing. Heck I even enjoyed the tear lens.

Math montage! I do not know why but montages of really mundane stuff where characters don’t actually do much like thinking, reading. or doing math are one of my fetishes. It’s the weirdest thing in the world. Anyways, there was a math montage. I cheered. I may have also taken a drink. This review is fun, weeeee.

I’m super excited to see Gen again. I honestly didn’t expect him to return so soon but I’m certainly not complaining. I think his presence in and of itself is a good source of conflict for our little group and the potential he brings with him is very promising.

Finally, and this may just be because I’m paranoid, but there was something unsettling about how the episode ended. Like it was too good to be true. If their victory is pretty much assured, then why not just take a few extra seconds to make it official. All they need are basically 3 stills. I think the fact that they didn’t means something. Moreover, Senku is still in the running and he’s the only one we didn’t see fight. methinks something is afoot and that’s interesting.

What I Liked Less

The Chrome Magma Fight may have gone on a touch too long?

Oh I know! Senku was basically just a narrator this week. As in he literally stood around an gave explanatory exposition. Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t in fact bother me much but it’s a touch lazy.

We also didn’t see Ginro at all after his own fight was over. I find his character has not been treated well by the show. He seems mostly utilitarian. It’s unfortunate since the little they did establish is quite different from every other character and if the show paid a bit more attention to him, he would bring something unique to the cast.

Closing Thoughts

So for you guys that have read the manga, does it stay at this level? Cause if so, I have no complaints. There were a few shots in the new OP that looked pretty intriguing too. And did we see Senku’s dad in the ED. I mean we’ve never seen him in the flashbacks and the mom was always with her back to the camera but the dad we saw. And we know he sparked Senku’s interest in science so he must be pretty important to him.

I wonder why Senku hasn’t set out to find him yet. Maybe they had a falling out? This isn’t closing thoughts at all, it’s just rambling. Again I had fun and again I want to see next week!

see this is hard because it really depends what kinda mood i’m in as to who is my number one. i have like a set of siennes who i love so i’m just gonna bullet point them and try to go into detail.

chigi. the woman brings immense depth to everything she does, give her a blank slate and she’ll make you cry. she has this skill to craft an incredible, nuanced character from nothing and that’s a skill i both adore and respect. role wise, haruoki from hoshiai hitoyo remains my favourite role of her’s to date, but also nijinsky, from nijinsky was another, she put 110% of herself into the role and it showed.

miyu. phenomenal, life changing, the best musumeyaku working right now tbh. her og career must be filled with incredible nuance and heartbreaking roles because she has the goddamn acting chops for them and her voice is like an angel sang and made a person. bless her and her everything. fave roles, satoko from spring snow aka holy shit this kid can act. literally everything she did in it was amazing, and somehow managed to convey a sense of aloofness and unlikability. also sen from hoshiai, she managed to grow and age and do it so well and so convincingly and showed the ache of never truly loving genta but never being able to have haruoki, and god catch me writing an essay about this show and miyu in it

kai. i love her she’s such a nerd, so ridiculous, has the kpop face yes but also manages to be a literal anime character. in all seriousness though, she’s a massive nerd and i can just see the depth just hiding under that outer layer of dork and i’m waiting for the era of beni to push it out into the light and make her the best she can be. role wise....does brilliant dreams + next count because if so dear god i have never laughed harder in my life girl is fantastic and just...let her write the shojo manga adaptation we all deserve

daimon. i don’t have words for why i love her because i can’t actually put it into  human terms becuase all i can hear is incoherant screaming and flailing she is so much and so ridiculous in every way, and so wonderfully. roles include genta from hoshiai, her ache and tiredness and exhaustion, especially when during the “duel”, and in her rejection of haruoki. i’ve never seen someone carry the weight of their world so clearly, and she gives that feeling of grief and exhaustion at the fact she never really had her wife so clearly. also, on the complete other end of the spectrum, terry from ocean’s 11 the biggest ham and so utterly hilarious
