solving counting sheep prompt thing: three and joe trying to work on some project together
Three squints critically at a post in the ground.
“Your measurement is off,” it says.
“Why, thank you. Your eyesight is far greater than mine, so I very much appreciate you correcting the marks I’m using to decide how big and close the moon is getting!” Joe smiles at Three. Back when Three had first met her, Joe had smiled big quite often. These days, even that goofy, meant-to-be-a-gesture smile is drawn and exhausted. Joe is not designed to run on minimal sleep the way Three is; Joe is hardly the only Hermit staying up until the middle of the night these days.
Blocks rise around them.
Three has better vision than Joe. Blocks rise everywhere.
“I still think we should try Mumbo’s missile again. Or we should try a bigger missile.”
“I am afraid that didn’t work the first time!” Joe says, finishing their sign adjustments.
“That’s stupid,” Three says.
“That’s just how it is. Besides, big problems like that are for big problem havers! We’re out here, collecting data for the people who might actually be able to do something about it.” Joe pauses, shrugs. “I mean, if they exist. They probably don’t.”
“I could torture a Watcher into fixing it,” Three says glibly.
“No, you said that wouldn’t work,” Joe says. “Also, that’s morally questionable.”
Three does not fidget. It trains its eyes on the threat it can do nothing about. It lets out a trill that, for most mortals, is terrifying.
Nothing happens.
“I can make everyone leave,” Three says, quieter this time. “With better plans than—”
“The season’s hardly over. Iskall hasn’t given me my badge yet. I’m not leaving until I get that,” Joe says.
“That is a stupid plan. Don’t be stupid,” Three says.
“Are you leaving?”
“Not until Mumbo does. Especially not until—Pearl should know better. She did not leave last time. She was—was sad. She should know that—I won’t leave until she does,” Three says, halting as it trips over emotions it doesn’t understand.
“Then let’s not have this argument again.”
“Will comply,” Three grumbles.
“Besides, this new moon data is fascinating. Why, at this rate—oh no! I might not even finish my castle! I think I’m going to go work on the walls again, just in case,” Joe says.
“Affirmative,” Three says.
“See you around! If you happen to See any solutions with those big eyes of yours”—and here Joe winks, incredibly unsubtly—“please, by all means, let us all know!”
He leaves.
Three looks at a line of signs across the ground, scattered markers of how small the problem was a month ago. It’s grown so big so fast, and Three has still yet to figure out how to neutralize it.
No one has any orders to stay. No one has any reason to. Three doesn’t understand why they’re still staying.
Three won’t leave alone.
Three, Three doesn’t want—
It would be sad if Zedaph’s sheep experiment had to end early. It should not be buried under moon rocks and rubble. It should be remembered.
That’s all.

(Read on AO3)
“My King,” Bdubs greeted, taking a bow.
Where once he lounged, Ren the King now sat completely straight on his netherite throne with a frown on his face. His eyes were set deep, his hair coming loose from a once perfectly manicured braid, and his ears were pinned back.
“Sir Bdubs,” he greeted. “Bring ye any news?”
“Well…” Bdubs trailed off. To be the bearer of bad news once was not pleasant. To be forced to tell his King the same bad news for the third time in only so many days was tedious and infuriating, not to mention the personal embarrassment.
“Well? You promised me that your own personal attempt at making the prisoner talk would succeed, where Sir Scar and Sir Iskall’s failed,” Ren demanded.
Bdubs shuffled his feet, taking a sudden interest in the carpet. Well, who could blame him? The Royal Architect. He built this place, he had every reason to want to look at that carpet, thank you very much!
“Imayhavestruggledtomaketheprisonertalk,” he said under his breath.
“What was that? Speak up, my man,” the King ordered.
“I said I failed to make the prisoner talk, alright?!” He said at a perfectly normal, level, and reasonable volume.
The King rose from his throne and began to pace, crown bouncing on his head.
“Is he still sticking to his lie?” Ren asked.
“Says he knows nothing of any kind of resistance,” Bdubs grumbled.
Ren shook his head, stroking his chin as he considered the situation.
“...And we are certain he is not telling the truth?”
“My King!” Bdubs gasped. “The man is a trickster! It was you yourself who discovered that the… the… tha slippery robot Grumbot had been used as a tool to orchestrate the rebellion. And who is the brain behind it? Who did it mention itself when questioned? That’s right! It’s very own father!”
“Hmm,” Ren hummed, taking a moment to consider Bdubs’ wisdom. “You are right, Sir BdoubleO, as you so often are. And for standing by your King in his moment of weakness, I too shall forgive you yours. I cannot blame you for failing to make that snake in the grass talk.”
“What?! Blame me?! But I didn’t- I mean , thank you, my King! You are most gracious.”
“I am, yes,” Ren agreed. “Now, what other methods of persuasion do we have left? there must be some resources we have not yet employed.”
“Well, there’s always the…” Bdubs paused, trailing off as he pondered. “What celestial body did we name it after in the end?”
Ren paused. “I’m… not certain. But I know of what you speak: The Drop.”
“Ooh, I like that,” Bdubs acknowledged. “A little less pizzazz, but much more ominous. Fitting of this dark time in our reign.”
“Perhaps,” Ren said, merely raising an eyebrow at Bdubs’ slip of the tongue. “But I do not want him dead, I want him talking. I have a better idea, something far scarier.”
Bdubs had seen people go instantly pale in the past and knew without a doubt that he had just done so himself.
“You don’t mean…”
“I am afraid so,” the King said direly. “Send for Lady Cleo. Let her know that her services are needed post haste.”
A severe punishment indeed. Cleo was scary!
“Very well, my King.”
“And in the meantime, have Cub do his netherite magic trick in view of the prisoner. That should freak his bean.”
For the first time, Bdubs paused to question whether or not they may be the villains of this story, but quickly dismissed the thought. After all, he had been the one to put Ren in charge, and Bdubs had never been wrong before… at least not very much.
“All will be as you will it, my King,” Bdubs said, taking another deep bow before he made his exit and set to work.
Somewhere in the belly of the Crastle, in an uncomfortably damp cell, was Mumbo Jumbo, bean already thoroughly freaked.
There he had been, just returned from a well-deserved holiday, when his good friends Iskall and Scar had come to say hello to him. How very kind of them!
Except they hadn’t come to say hello at all! They had dragged him away, and now he was here! Locked away in some castle, accused of high treason against the King, saying something about ‘father 1.’
Since when was there even a king for him to commit treason against?!
Mumbo groaned, wishing he had prolonged his holiday for another month.
He had a distinct feeling that all of this was somehow Grian’s fault.

What are all the confirmed/mentioned pantheons and who/what kind of people follow each one? I love that all the religions(?) are true at the same time. It's my favourite. :)
I also wanted to ask how you felt about people using your world of Midnight, but writing in their own characters? I want to, but felt I should ask first. (With credits given, of course.)
:)
God I am so fascinated by religions and their effects on society, but all the war and fighting that comes with it is so exhausting. So coexisting simultaneously-true religions was just like "yeah!! Whoo! Best of all worlds!" bc I get to explore the differences in the religions and beliefs and all that without being like "religion is bs" or "only one religion is true." I lowkey always worry that someone might think I'm actually promoting religion (hi guys atheist/nonreligious here I am just super interested in the cultural aspects of religions thank you) so I'm glad people have been receiving the Pantheons thing positively <3
As for the confirmed Pantheons we have, there's Fate (which is The Big Pantheon), the Fae Pantheon, the Death Pantheon, the Watcher's Pantheon, the Old Pantheon, and I think??? I may have mentioned it but I don't know if I deleted it but there's also Creation and Destruction (which is The First and The Last, The Beginning and The End). Nobody follows the Fate Pantheon because every living thing- including gods- is bound from the moment of birth to it, and no one follows Creation and Destruction as they are Already Gone and Inevitable. I swear if I forgot to at least mention Creation in passing... but Creation was like THE first Pantheon at the beginning of time itself, the only Pantheon older than it is Fate (as the Creation god is also bound to Fate). The Old Pantheon is a mostly-defunct Pantheon now, but it was the Pantheon that came after the fall of the Ancients and when they first started rebuilding. Can't wait to talk about what happens when a Pantheon fully dies out... cue me glancing at Grian's dream from Midnight Flux... Oh! And I mentioned before when talking about the Werewolves' evolution story but the Sun and Moon also have their own associated gods and Pantheons. There's no Life Pantheon, that one will be explained later :)
Of course there are also Listeners, but I haven't really mentioned them. There's a lot of very small and minor Pantheons as well, but the ones mentioned above are The Big Ones.
You'll notice there's no Pantheon of Time mentioned here :)
As for who follows what, we have;
Death Pantheon: Mumbo, Cleo, BDubs, Cub, Doc, all Vampires in general, Phil, Tommy, Wilbur, Fundy; in general it's followed by Vampires and Undead Mob hybrids (for example, if Cleo wasn't a Vampire she'd still follow this Pantheon as a Zombie) and lower deities (such as Angels of Death and Harbingers and Reapers)
Watcher Pantheon: Grian, Jimmy, Scott (kind of- his is a little... complicated), Pearl; in general it's followed mostly by people born into it. There's casual and extremist groups, and it's considerably exclusive, the only way to join as an outsider is to be brought in by an existing member.
Fae Pantheon: Scar, Tubbo, Lizzie, Cub, BDubs, all Fae in general (with the exception of Joel); it's a Pantheon only available to the Fae and the Natural children they claim. Grian and Mumbo would not have access to it even if they marry Scar.
Old Pantheon: None of the main characters, but Mumbo and Tubbo were both born into this Pantheon. They've both since left it behind. Less than a thousand members are left of this Pantheon. This was one people were just born into, a sort of Default™ until people began (re)discovering other gods.
Moon's Pantheon: Ren, Werewolves in general; anyone can convert to worshiping the Moon God
Listener's Pantheon: Martyn; you HAVE to be born into the Listener's Pantheon, no exceptions.
No Pantheon/Unknown Pantheon: Joel, Gem, Etho, Iskall, Scar's Father; To have no Pantheon at all means to just never swear yourself to any one Pantheon. Changelings are the only Fae who aren't inherently tied to the Fae Pantheon, being a group of Fae who often never find out they're Fae.
BONUS ROUND- The Void, which was worshiped by Boatem's founders. While the Void's Pantheon is mostly dead now, the Void itself has found its way into most other Pantheons. Some Pantheons, such as the Fae, have nothing to do whatsoever with the Void.
I've spent way too long on this so if you have any questions about anyone else/anyone specific, feel free to ask <3 I have just spent wayyy too much thinking about this XD
As for writing within the world of Midnight, I absolutely don't mind at all! It's like having fic written about your world :o I think that'd be so cool~ And also now you got me wondering where my little character would fit in all this... hmm 👀

Semi-scientific theory: the Hermit Chaos Hierarchy
Based on my observations (aka watching way too much Hermitcraft), there is an inherent hierarchy of chaos within the Boatem crew. I have no idea if this holds true for the rest of the server, but here's my very incomplete hierarchy:
Scar
Grian
Mumbo
Iskall
The theory goes that those at the top of the list are the most likely to be actively chaotic. When a high-ranking hermit is present, shenanigans will ensue. The lowest-ranking hermit in the group is the designated adult who will either enable or discourage the chaos.
Example 1: when Grian and Scar are together, Grian is forced to be the adult in that situation. Since Scar's the only hermit who ranks higher than him, he's the only one Grian has to do this for. Sometimes Grian will try to discourage the shenanigans, but sometimes he'll join in.
Example 2: When Grian and Scar are together, Grian is a chaotic pesky bird while Mumbo tries to corral him. It doesn't really go the other way
Example 3: When Mumbo, Grian, and Scar are together, Mumbo is the adult while Grian and Scar do their best to be active nuisances. When Mumbo decides to enable or join the chaos, that's when we get Hermitcraft S9 | Episode 1: Scar vs the Boatem Hole 2.0
Example 4: When Grian, Mumbo, and Iskall are together (eg in a Sahara meeting), Iskall tries to corral the chaos of both Grian and Mumbo, suggesting that middle-ranking hermits like Mumbo are exempt from chaos-discouraging duties when a lower-ranking hermit is present.
This does not mean that lower-ranking hermits cannot cause chaos! They can cause as much chaos as they want, because there are fewer people with even lower rankings to tell them no. They are simply less likely to be active nuisances.
Thank you and goodnight

Hello, hi, I have just finished reading "i see the wolves at bay coming after me" and I have some Thoughts.
First of all: I love sea fruits Mumbo already?? He's trying his best and doing such a bad job <3 Running late, completely missing the fact he is being flirted with by the man he has been tasked to capture. Love that for him. But actually getting that little intro from his POV really enriched the rest of the story. And we get so many little hints at his backstory. I am very excited to see more of him!
So I had somehow managed to miss that this was a steampunk au until I started reading, so I got so excited when it was revealed in-text. Aaah I'm so excited to see how else it's going to be used (perhaps something to do with those cool abilities you mentioned Mumbo having in your response to Stitch's ask? 👀)
The introduction of the crew was amazing! So well written, and I loved how every character got to shine at least a little bit. You can really tell they've lived and worked together for a while, they were clearly very comfortable together. The whole beer thing made me laugh, even more so the payoff with Grian/Ren running away with the cups of rum. It worked so well within the scene.
The little Grian and Iskall moment with the eye contact? Hello? Waaah I am having an emotion. It's not a ship I've read a whole lot of fic for but I am already 100% on board with how you are writing them ❤️
Your characterisation of Grian is so good. The cockiness, the fondness for his friends, and the intensity of how much he loves to do the things he does. His personality and his voice are just so on point! And I loved him flirting with Mumbo, it was great! I loved every bit of it. And the line "Shame, we lost a real nice looking one to the blue jackets" is just.. ajkahdkjsahkjdsa. I have been spinning it in my head all day.
I was already very interested in Sea Fruits AU before this fic, and now I am hooked. Have subscribed and am very excited for more!
I LOVE SEA FRUITS MUMBO SM..... my biggest gripe with writing mumbo in Any au is making him seem cool(ish) while keeping him in character. so while he may be a lieutenant in the marines, he is going to be the Soppiest Man you will Ever see. I'm already developing a lot of things with stellar and mojo for mumbo's full backstory and I'm loving what we've got so far :D I'm excited to write more of him!
I'm really excited about the steampunk aspect of the au!!! steampunk has always been something I've wanted to play around with in a fic, so I'm looking forward to the chance to do that with this au
I LOVE THE CREW SO MUCH MAN :((( I wanted to give them all a chance to have their personality shine through. the beer bit is one of my absolute favorite bit of the fic, the ren moment and all <333
grian and iskall my LOVES... you've found my special ability: making you feel Emotions for ships you aren't fully familiar with >:3 welcome to my griskall propaganda
but WAHHHHHH TY :((( grian is so much fun to write here (I mean he always is, but this is like enjoyment to the Max). he's so cocky and confident and that really shines through in the way he interacts with his opponents and how he carries himself. him flirting with mumbo was so enjoyable to write, and the line at the end... I love it all so much. my ultimate goal with this au is to have grian flirt with mumbo at Any Possible Opportunity :3
but thank you for reading!!!! :D I'm so happy I've finally been able to write something for it, and I'm brain rotting so bad about it. I've been planning things all day <3

Are you planning on writing fic for the vessel of the moon au? <- *kicking my feet and twirling my hair*
In the meantime though, i love that soup group are here, and I'm wondering if you have plans for any other hermits and what roles they might play in the story? And I'd love to hear more about the worldbuilding you've done, especially the religion/deities, I always find that stuff really neat. Are there other gods or goddesses besides the moon and magma gods? And do you have any thoughts on how people worship the different gods?
i’m not sure if i’ll turn this into a fic- i do want to, and i’ve outlined it as if i’m going to, but motivation’s been running a little thin lately and i’m a little worried i wouldn’t have enough to write the whole thing. that’s the hope, though, and talking about it on tumblr is a way i hope to flesh out some of the bits between points a and b!
i’m hoping to include all of the hermits if i can- i don’t have everyone’s voice down, so i don’t know how well that’ll work. so far, i have specific ideas for impulse, skizz, tango, zed, and doc, some ideas for iskall, stress, mumbo, ren, and hypno (they hunt monsters!), and i’m thinking grian has Some sort of obsessive love/hate situtionship with the sea deity.
(i want to draw a lot of what the hermits are doing from season 9, and then translate that to this au. if that means grian’s started a murder fishing cult, then oh well that’s kind of funny and a good plot hook)
the gods work a little abstractly, partially because i think abstractly and partially because when you’re at that magnitude there isn’t much else to be. the gods are highly powerful beings, whose power is given an extra oomph because they are also a Concept and a Domain. these gods power and run nature, and abide by certain rules in their dealings with mortals and each other.
beyond the moon and magma gods, the ones i currently have written out are the sea deity, wind gods, land spirits, and the storm god. there is no known sun deity.
the land spirits are also different from an earth god. each land spirit is essentially a tiny god that rules This Chunk Of Land In Particular. there is no one earth god, nor will there ever be (mostly for balancing reasons).
every town or settlement has at least one shrine, for people to burn offerings and pray to the gods for aid or protection or whatnot.
different groups of people are also more likely to follow certain gods. for instance, Drifters like gem usually burn offerings to the sea and wind gods as thanks for their protection (after their homeland was destroyed, the ocean and wind offered the dragonish peoples sanctuary at sea), and gem in particular would likely also burn offerings to the moon goddess and any other gods she might meet along the way (because i haven’t figured out the entire pantheon yet)
there’s also the matter of demigods. while it’s possible for a mortal to ascend to godhood, it’s also rare- the gods tend to offer demigodhood to people who look like they might get too close, which is a lot less powerful, but still semi-immortal and deeply cool. none of the hermits are gods, but several are demigods of some sort.
the gods of this world don’t really need worship or belief to function, so they don’t actively encourage it as much

Summary of This Blog
Introduction:
Gwen here, they/them. This is a secondary blog that dedicates to MCYT, and I am also fairly new to Tumblr (in a way), so forgive me if I am being weird! I am a very awkward and very emotion driven person; this means I am either laughing my head off or crying my eyes out, so keep that in mind when you interact with me :D Yeah I am exaggerating, but you get the idea. I am also very talkative when I am talking, but not when I interact with others. Overly Introverted. Or social anxiety. I can’t figure out how social clues work, basically.
Also, English is not my first language, and I would appreciate some advice on phrasing and grammar problems!
What do I do here though? Well, I speak gibberish, I rant, I write fanfics. For now I mainly write platonic fanfics, but I feel like my head want something else, so we will see about that.
Currently on my Ethubs brain-rot era.
List (It’s a small list ngl)
📍Here’s a list of my fanfics on this blog:
[Explosive Invention]: Alchemist Grian and Vampire Mumbo, platonic.
[Tiny Problem]: Somehow if the hermits die they become parents (of mini hermits). P4 is now out!
[With Your Eyes Closed]: Ren centric. Doc is also there. It’s a very strange fic, with Ren being a little depressed and Doc being somewhat oblivious. The first chapter can be read as a stand-alone, but I have plans for future chapters. Only P1 is finished. Gets shippy in the future,
[Falling]: Grian has a nightmare, and Mumbo helps him. This is going to be multi-chaptered, but only P1 is finished. Not so platonic.
[The Chamber]: Ponk makes a decision in the chamber that leads to a different outcome.
[Distant Thunder]: Ethubs HP AU where Etho is a pureblood in Slytherin and Bdubs is a muggleborn in Gryffindor. Supposedly is a platonic story. [P1]
-
📍Random one-shots:
Stories about Grumbot and Jrumbot: P1, P2, P3
Grian and Mumbo talks about sadness: Here
Quality time for Scar and Jellie: Here, Here
Drabbles about Grian, Ren, Bdubs and the night: Here
Ethubs has an argument: Here
Ethubs HP AU: Here
Iskall and Stress having a conversation about Grian: Here
Moss Etho and Arctic Fox Bdubs (Fanon Swap): Here
My rant
Wow you read all that?
Anyway, thank you! I know my writing is not the best, but you guys still read them anyway, and that means A LOT to me. It boosts my self-esteem not gonna lie, and I actually really need that right now! So thank you! If you want to, you can send me some ask, though I won’t promise to respond to every one of them. However, I promise I will read every single one! (Just- not the ones with creepy content or suspicious link :D)

not sure if season 3 is confirmed or not but any thoughts 3L/LL? something you want to see or who should pair up??
Ohohoho >:3c a 3rd season??
I really think there will be a 3rd season, it will just take a little while! Probably around the same time as 3rd life to last life.
Pairs I'd like to see:
I do have my favorite teams from past seasons, but I think they will probably try and pair up with different people each time! So here are some I'd like to see :3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2 teams here have new players! This is more for fun, but since they added more players for LL ya never know! Haha.
Etho and Scott would be a very funny and dangerous team. Etho goes with familiar people or solo, so being with someone a bit new would be cool! Scott giving Etho a hard time would be so funny. The mad strats tho!!
Impulse and Pearl would be GREAT. Pearl's chaotic energy with Impulses 'rise and grind' style would work well. She could push him to be a bit more daring and mischievous too.
Joel and Scott...I mean...I'd be hilarious and nothing would get done...
Tango and either Ren or Mumbo! I think Mumbo would be a very fun and silly team up for Tango, at the same time, Ren is a great ally and loves to roleplay. If he could get Tango into character that would be so fun!
Scar and Bdubs!! THIS HAS TO HAPPEN! They have such a good friendship, Bdubs listens to him and could give him advice on situations. Scar needs a friend man. Tho... I feel they would be super wild and either win the game or die ep 1 NSSJSJ XD
Etho and Beef (if Beef was added to the server) we love Team Canada and Beef has been playing a lot of UHC lately! He'd be a bit overpowered...especially with Etho... but, it would be very fun!
Iskall and Ren (if Iskall was added to the server) Iskall and Ren are great together and he could go bug Mumbo and Grian.
Etho and Bdubs I wanted to draw them sjsjs
More for Bdubs and Scar team:
Tumblr media
Scar is a con man that sells shoddy tonics. Claiming that they give you great powers or make you live longer, ect. (He'd rename potions so that all the names would be mixed up. You could want a health potion, but you turn invisible instead. He'd also sell normal ones that work as intended, tho the longer lasting ones would be a random guess)
Since he is a stream punky tycoon in hc s8 i totally thought he was going to do this in LL!
More for Etho and Beef team:
Tumblr media
If you watched hc s7 you'll remember Llama Dad. If Beef brought that role over to LL It'd be so funny XD I could see him with his right hand man Etho threatening people with their 'protection'. Then they could get goods and resources as payment! Haha.
Other thoughts:
I really liked the random life mechanic they added in LL as well as the Boogeyman. The Boogeyman role did add A LOT of drama and put strains on teams like crazy, but it was all for fun.
My brother and I were talking and he thought of a "bounty" type mechanic, where a certain person would have a hit put on them and whoever filled the bounty would receive a valuable resource. Or even points to receiving an additional life?
Premade structures could be cool too. Like abandoned places that have some important resources?
ANYWAY that's all! I probably had more ideas but forgot them! XD thank you for listening to my talking hahah who are teams you'd like to see???

Hello there! Would you possibly give us some details on Xisuma parenting the chaos of Tommy + Grian? Please and thank you!
I believe it was mentioned in the very first fic I wrote for hermit!Tommy that the hermits found out that Tommy has a sense of humor under all that trauma when he started a massive prank war and then framed Grian for it.
The prank is a simple masterpiece, really: Tommy chooses his targets well. When a tall man with a redstone-dusted suit comes sprinting across your front lawn, stealing your front door and leaving lit campfires behind, your first thought is that Mumbo’s doing a Hermit Challenge, even if the man who zooms across your property is wearing an identity-concealing cardboard box on his head.
Obviously, since “Mumbo” is stealing doors, Grian’s at fault for this. Zedaph is content to let this lie; after all, he prefers to use his unnecessarily complicated redstone roof-door. However, Tango ropes him into pranking Grian and Mumbo back, since Impulse isn’t there to tell them not to. Together, they place doors on every single inch of square space in Grian’s barge, only to get caught by Impulse, who only sees them because he’s restocking his Impulse Buys raft.
Zedaph and Tango hang their heads, having been caught red-handed. Tango immediately points his finger at Zedaph and says that Zedaph coerced him; Zedaph then goes on to spin a yarn about space aliens zapping his brain with a laser that makes him go into a possessed state and commit mild acts of inconvenience against his fellow hermits.
Impulse sighs, running a hand down his face. “Really? You wanted to get back at Grian, and this was the best you could do? Doors in his barge?”
Tango opens his mouth to protest, but Impulse cuts him off. “Obviously you two need some help. I’ve got just the idea; let’s go to my wither farm.”
Three identically evil little smiles disappear from the shopping district and into the Nether.
-------
Xisuma sighs heavily. He tries to facepalm in exasperation, but he’s wearing his helmet so his hand just bonks off his visor, making him look like a fool.
“Care to explain to me,” he says to his gathered hermits, “why Shad-E E’s, the town hall, and Toon Towers are on fire?"
Iskall shifts guiltily.
Xisuma continues, "Or perhaps you would like to explain why there are thousands of invisible chickens lagging out the shopping district?"
Grian stuffs his hands in his pockets, looking off into the distance (he's staring at the sun now, but he's already committed to looking in this direction) and repressing the urge to whistle innocently. No one who is actually innocent ever whistles.
"Maybe, someone might even be so kind as to explain why you dummies thought it'd be a swell idea to start a prank war during the week I was away from the server!" Xisuma exclaims in a faux-cheery tone. "I mean, really! Even the Hermitcraft Civil War from last season took more than one week."
Etho shrugs. "In my defense, it was funny."
Xisuma's visor tilts toward the sky, as though he looking at some higher power and asking, why?
"...You're all morons," Xisuma says, then remembers the newest of their group, a young man named Tommy who happens to have some Trauma with a capital t regarding admins. Xisuma amends, "Except you, Tommy; you're an angel and we're glad you're here."
"...I only pranked Iskall because he pranked me first," Impulse pouts with crossed arms.
"I never even pranked you!" Iskall protests. "That was Mumbo!"
"Guilty as charged," Mumbo says.
Grian pipes up, "Alright, who was it that superglued Mumbo's moustache to my face while I was asleep?! I know it was either Cleo or Joe."
"I reckon it must have been a ghost," Joe says innocently.
"More like a Jhost," Cleo snorts.
Zedaph raises his hand meekly among the bickering. Xisuma, taking pity on him, loudly asks, "Yes, Zedaph?"
"Er, I can tell you how it started... My door was yoinked in the dead of night-- well, eleven thirty A.M., but close enough-- by Mumbo, 'cept he had a box on his head."
"Wha-- Lies and slander!" Mumbo squawks.
As Zedaph rebuts that he knows what he saw, False watches Tommy, who is standing near the back of the crowd, pull an item from his inventory. "Uh, guys?" she says, but gets talked over.
"--And furthermore, even if I had, I wouldn't have hid my face!" Mumbo finishes triumphantly.
"Guys!" False says. This time, people turn to look. She gestures toward quiet, shy Tommy, who is now wearing a cardboard box on his head.
Zedaph gasps. "It was you!"
Murmurs run theough the crowd. As usual, Mumbo is one of the last to grasp the implications.
"Wait," he says. "Did you frame me?!"
There is a smile evident in Tommy's voice as he nods to Etho and says, "In my defense... It was funny."

I hear you're a hermitcraft fan, and sorry if this is a dumb question but I've been considering watching them and don't know where to start because it seems like there's a lot going on. any suggestions? thank you ^^
Oh my friend!! Absolutely not a dumb question! Thanks for popping by. <3
There IS a lot going on, but you have two things going for you right now:
a) season 8 just started, so you don't have a lot you'll necessarily want to catch up on and
b) everyone is using a proximity chat mod this season, and living very close together (ironic for a server called Hermitcraft lol) so they all appear in each other's vids a lot -- which means you don't have to watch everyone or even most of them to have a good idea of what's going on.
Now -- that said, where you start and which hermit you watch is a personal preference thing, and I highly rec clicking through a bunch of them just for a few minutes to see who you like best. There is no "best" hermit! They're ALL delightful, and they all do amazing content.
A quick breakdown of some of MY personal faves:
Grian: everyone is going to recommend Grian to you, lol. He's definitely the most popular hermit, and for good reason: the guy makes quality content and he's a fun chaos gremlin to watch. If you like a good variety of hijinks and fun builds, Grian is a good go-to. This season, he's interacting a lot with Mumbo Jumbo, ImpulseSV, PearlescentMoon, and GoodTimesWithScar, so that gets you practically half the server right there XD
ImpulseSV: Impulse is currently one of my top-5 hermits. Major dad vibes, cool redstone projects (he's one of the more technical players, lots of massive farms usually), and he JUST went to full-time content creator (or...well, he's going to. He's 95% of the way committed, but it's a big leap to take for a guy with kids) so I definitely want to send support his way.
If you want good story stuff, check out DocM77 and/or Renthedog this season. I am so not sure where this is all going, but between Doc's incredible technical skills (he's the Doc who's being referenced in the Minecraft menu splash text "What's up, Doc?" He's an actual legend and lost an arm [in character lol] PvP fighting Dinnerbone. THE Dinnerbone. No, I'm not making that up) and Ren's amazing storytelling ability, whatever this mystery is they're working on will be A Real Trip, Baby.
If you're looking for something a little more chill, check out someone like Welsknight (I say "chill"... guy has chill vibes but he also went and got two full netherite suits in like, the first week of the season sooooo... #respectthegrind) or GeminiTay (suuuuuper sweet but also will cut you. Has two modes: preschool teacher and mafia boss. Building genius going hardcore into cottage core right now. Also one of the youngest members of the server) or VintageBeef (Beef is building a massive spaceship this season, which is a blast.)
For more goofy, funny players, check out Iskall (the man is brilliant but also deliberately a derp and his comedic timing is on point), GoodTimesWithScar (disabled gamer representation! also a derp, but this time With Story. And like... insanely beautiful builds), BdoubleO100 (feral cartoon chihuahua man in a midwestern dad's body, makes a lot of wild noises and builds mountains between episodes), or Tango Tek (Tango is also in my top five, I love him, and the man is an absolute redstone genius. Has been inventing iron farms since before iron farms existed, no exaggeration. He built a working (mostly) version of Among Us in survival last season. Insane.)
And last but not least, even if you decide Hermitcraft isn't for you, I highly encourage you to sub to Xisumavoid. He's the server's main admin, and also keeps up with Minecraft updates -- does a lot of snapshot preview testing vids, mythbusting about new update features, and generally is a great person to follow to keep up with Minecraft as a game.
...okay, that's probably WAY more info than you ever wanted, lol. And I left off sooooo many worthy hermits -- check out hermitcraft.com for a full list of all of them with links to their channels. Like I said, I definitely recommend clicking through to everyone for a few minutes, just to see who you kind of vibe with. There's no pressure to keep up with everyone, and if you really start liking what you see but don't want to try and watch a ton of vids every week? Check out the Hermitcraft Recap, run by Pixlriffs and ZloyXP. They're not hermits directly, but they do a weekly rundown of server shenanigans that can be an absolute lifesaver for those of us who like... actually have other things that have to be done. XD
Hope that helps!!

Hey Second! I've never played a trading card game before, but the online version of the Hermit TCG made me go 👀, and I couldn't help but try and make a deck using cards I thought sounded good. I might try and play if/when I have the time. (About how long do matches usually go for?)
I chose prankster Grian, Mumbo, and Stress, builder Scar, explorer Zed, farmer Iskall, rare miner TFC, PvPer Wels, and speedrunner Cub, and a bunch of x2 item cards plus 13 effect cards (but it feels unnecessary to list those out). I saw from some of your posts about the TCG that it seems like I made the right call with the pranksters and the x2 item cards, but is so much variety in the player cards bad? What do you recommend for someone who's never played a TCG before to do?
If you answer this, thanks in advance! :D
so okay; yes, so much variety in the player cards is bad, but i think it's more helpful if you understand the why of that, because that will help you deckbuild better in general in the future.
in general, the more different cards you have, the less consistent your deck will be. this is just a matter of probability, right - if i am playing the maximum number of copies of TNT, that means my base odds of drawing it is 3/42, whereas if my friend is playing one copy of TNT, their odds are 1/42. (this is not... exactly right but i don't feel like pulling out actual stats right now bear with me.) since my strategy wants me drawing TNT a lot, i play three copies, because it makes me more likely to draw it when i need it. if it were like... i normally only play either 1 or 2 composters, because those are situational, and i only want to draw them sometimes.
generally, if you can, you want to build your deck to give you the highest probability to draw the things you need. a deck that runs three copies of everything it wants (except items, which you want to be about a third of your deck, we'll get back to those) is going to be better than a deck that runs one copy of everything. (this is not true 100% of the time and there are strategies out there that play a lot of one-ofs but like, bear with me.) a deck with fewer cards will almost always be more consistent than a deck with more, in games where that matters. and a deck that plays mostly cards that work well together has a much higher chance of drawing what it needs turn one than a deck that plays a lot of disparate elements.
(this, for the record, is why playing at least a third of your deck as item cards is my current recommendation. like mana or energy, you NEED THEM in order to do any other attacks, and having extras in your hand isn't normally bad.)
so, re-emphasizing that "your goal while deckbuilding is to make a deck that is the most likely to give you the cards that you need", you can start to see why playing so many different types in your deck will cause problems - you have extremely low odds of drawing the items you need in order to be able to actually use any attacks! with six different item types, sheer probability means your deck wouldn't be very consistent, and you'll often draw dead.
generally, at the moment, stick to two or one types of hermit, so that you draw the items you need in order to use their attacks. (i can't in good conscious say there's a reason to run three types unless you have a VERY specific thing you're doing, not while there aren't any dual items or anything.)
anyway i hope that's helpful!

-Impulse: he/him and they/them, only one or the other depending on the day, and gendersatyr/man (zedaph introduced him to the term but he's not willing to let go of "man" yet or maybe ever,) -Iskall: they/them but doesn't care if you use anything else (encourages neos), nonbinary but specifically everything under that umbrella -Jevin: he/it/slime and boyflux/fluidflux -Joe: any/all and genderfluid, but literally because I headcanon her to also be like a shadow thing/cryptid and it,,,physically is just an illusion -Keralis: she/he/any and bigender/genderfluid (she is like at least 2 genders at once but it changes up a bit sometimes) -Mumbo: he/him and trans man, all of his complexity goes into his redstone but he just wants simple gender for now -Pearl: she/star/(sol/solar) and planetgender/spacegender, the moon-ness of her gender goes into her name entirely -Stress and Wels: she/her and he/him respectively but they're constantly having a gender crisis, stress is just (ironically) the one who's more chill about it -Tango: he/(fei/fire) and flamegender, he was born in fire and that Technically means he is fire if you think about it enough (he is no demon though, make no mistake)! -TFC: he/they/she and elder trans<3 teaches the young trans kids how to gender -Zedaph: he/they/cog and polygender! just all gender at once with some funky pronouns we love cog in this house (also they wear dresses in most outings unless they're being a scientist or in a cardigan [unless it's over the dress!]) (that's all of them I think and hope!! maybe!!) ((also you've eased my discomfort at the novelty of me sending things on here, I thank you for that))
Woah! There’s are great!!
(I’m glad I could help! I hope to see more of you :} )

Hermitopia AU Conclusion
The last ask has been answered, the masterposts are complete, and (although art, writing, and Discord discussion are still accepted and encouraged) it is finally time to officially wrap up the Hermitopia AU! Because this was such a massive event - and no small thing to moderate - there will be a pause in blog activity for a day or so before the inbox will open for regular headcanons again. I apologize in advance for the wait!
In the mean time, I would just like to say: I am so, so thankful to everyone who participated in the AU. Your ideas and your creativity have made this blog a better place, whether you sent in one headcanon or dozens, and I am constantly in awe of the energy and enthusiasm of this community. Thank you, all of you, for making this universe we’ve created as vast and as interesting as it turned out to be.
Below are a collection of my own ideas, for those of you who like a satisfying (but still not entirely closed-ended) ending. These events take place as many days, months, or years into the future as you need them to make your own ideas work, and none of them are set in stone. You can take all of them, some of them, or none of them as truth if you want to...but either way, it has been an honour to build on a project like this one alongside you all.
And with that...the Hermitopia AU concludes! Finished, or barely begun, like so many good projects are. Have a great day everyone, and happy headcanoning!
- Mod Shade
"People of Hermitopia."
The man on the screen shifts, running a nervous hand across his bald head and squaring his shoulders. The broadcast quality is unstable, but it's more than enough for every citizen in the city to recognize who's speaking.
"This is your Concorp Branch Director, Cub. As I'm sure you are aware, I am the head of Project VEX in this city. You all know the VEX initiative as groundbreaking, life-saving, a shining success and a step towards a new era for humanity...and some of you may even see me as a hero for creating it.”
He closes his eyes, a brief look of pained remorse crossing his face. For a moment, he looks utterly defeated, almost small in the face of his impromptu audience of thousands...but finally, he fixes the camera with a steady gaze once more and begins the great unravelling.
“Maybe it was all those things, in the beginning. Maybe *I* was, once. But today, after far too long, I have some confessions to make...."
~
- For years, Cub had been desperately scrambling to hold the tatters of his life’s work together. Project VEX had started so well, and he had poured so much of himself into it, that when the failed experiments and rebellions became more and more frequent he was unable to accept a change of course. He covered up the project’s failings to maintain funding and public image, but mostly to maintain his own image to himself - that he was still the hero he’d set out to be and create at the project’s start. However, his denial was wearing on him heavily, and eventually he had a breakdown and decided to go public rather than keep drowning the city in lies.
- This breakdown was prompted by xB, who after his own moral breakthrough, confronted Cub and urged him to stop withholding knowledge and truth. xB also informed Cub of his own unknown truth - that the unintended power of his presence was the thing that was keeping the experiments successful when Cub was around. This was the final straw in breaking through Cub’s denial
- Along with Cub’s broadcasted speech, files were released to the media containing proof against most if not all of Concorp’s falsehoods. Many names were cleared of crimes that had been pinned on them, including Beef, Impulse, Doc, Cleo, and the majority of the other Unrestrained and Unaffiliated former VEX trainees that the company had tried to cast away
- Understandably, it took a very long time for the chaos to die down and all that information to be processed by society and the justice system. It may be years before the community can see some of their heroes in the proper light again, but at least they are now free to begin rebuilding their reputation without being labeled as villains and traitors.
- Those who actually did commit villainous acts are given a fair trial, with consideration for their motives and the new Concorp information as extra evidence
- The VEX program is withdrawn by Cub’s superiors and put under a strict review. It is reborn after a massive restructuring, with a new director, new limitations on what experiments can and cannot be attempted, and a greatly extended screening and training program to reduce the chances of graduates becoming villains. The new project will produce far fewer heroes with much subtler powers at first...but if that is the cost for the safety and stability of the city, then most people would agree that it is a small price to pay.
- Cub is not permitted to work on the new Project VEX in a management role, ever again. It’s a harsh blow for him, to have to watch his dream from the sidelines...but he knows he gave up the right to guide it when he abused the control that it gave him. At least his superiors allowed him something to do while he awaits trial: he is present (although guarded) at every new VEX trainee’s first experiment, lending his power to increase their chances of success.
- Mayor Scar resigned willingly. Nobody had enough evidence to accuse him of anything, and he didn’t plan on giving them a reason to look by trying to stay in office. Instead he chose to make his exit from both Concorp and government matters complete, at last. Or so he thinks. Who knows? Maybe he’ll learn what most of the people he’s helped to manipulate have already found out: that connections and old grudges don’t easily lose their grip.
- Scar is replaced by TFC, voted in by almost unanimous community support and funded by donations from all the people he’s saved over the years
- The greater Convex company offers a choice to the survivors of the old program: Come to work under their new, more honorable system, or take a generously large settlement and be free to build new lives
- Team ZIT declines the job offer, pooling their payment and using it to buy a shiny new base together for their independent hero venture. There are still a handful of real villains to fight, after all, and there are bound to be more once people start successfully copying Concorp technology. Now that Impulse is back at their side, they wouldn’t give up their roles saving the community for anything - but they’re done with being used by some guy behind a desk. From now on, justice and bravery will be their only guides!
- ...justice, bravery, and TFC, that is. He isn’t their boss by any means, but the more experienced hero does drop by often between his mayoral duties to make sure the youngsters stay out of trouble and in one piece.
- The nHo, according to all official records, took their settlements and split up, leaving Hermitopia far behind. However, Team ZIT suspects that the vigilante life hasn’t left them so easily. They’d be the last ones to report the odd sighting of a whipping vine or a distant masked figure, though - unregulated as they are, the nHo’s shady methods for a good cause prove useful from time to time. (And their base has really good tea. Okay, maybe it’s a little bit more than “the occasional sighting”...)
- Ren settles back into his meadow cabin, but after that massive release of info and a long, LONG period of processing, he now has Iskall, Stress, and Cleo as regular visitors. Every morning he wakes up and forgets for a moment that it’s real, that they’re really alive and with him again...but they are, and he is happier than he ever thought he would be again.
- Jevin and Mumbo visit the cabin occasionally. It took a while for Mumbo to get his memory back, but he now remembers all of his friendship with Iskall and Grian, and they come together for fun and shenanigans regularly with the rest of the cabin crew.
- Grian still spends his time looking for his clones, but honestly, he doesn’t mind. The adventure always did hold more meaning than the conclusion for him, and now, he has friends to help out!
- False disappears into thin air to wait out the fallout of Concorp’s information release. She snags herself a quiet job and a small apartment on the outskirts of town, fully intending to return to her mercenary work just as soon as the dust has settled...next week, maybe. Or the week after that. Or maybe, once the garden has been fully planted. She’s really enjoying having time for stuff like that now...but she’ll get back to work, really, she will! Soon.
- Joe and Cleo tearfully reunite through xB, and Joe becomes another frequent visitor to the cabin. Cleo also visits Joe’s base in the time exclusion zone, but she really prefers the cabin. Time skips are disorienting, and they make her want to sneeze.
- Keralis and Void come to an agreement. Xisuma isn’t entirely clear on what that agreement is - something to do with an allowance of cookies from Biffa’s bakery in exchange for not killing anyone - but he’s more than happy to be less sore and tired all the time.
Hermitopia is making progress. Real progress, this time - not just the breaking of humanity’s limitations, but breaking them with true heroic care, with the good of everyone in mind. There are some hurts that will never fully heal, mistakes that can be learned from but not undone, and yet...now there is a path, a way forward. It won’t be easy, but a kind and gentle future waits for them, welcome and well deserved. They will figure it out, together.
And together, they will step forward, into the new world that each of them has helped to create.

I’m going to put some thoughts about MCCP Pink Parrots under the cut (not all are positive, so if you don’t want me to be a party pooper please don’t read)
I know people (*cough* Twitter) have issues with this team because they’re all Cis Het White Males and one made a “lesbiophobic joke” five years ago or something. I agree that it’s probably better to “split the clout” to uplift other creators, especially with three (3) Clout People in the same team (unlike the infamous Pink8 which only had Two Clout People), but I understand why Scott made this decision.
This team feels almost specifically made to hype people up, and the combination will attract people to watch and donate, thus raising more money. While representation is good, I think money raised to practically help people > representation this time. Because this is a charity Pride stream, not just a Pride stream. Raising money is the focus here. Famous cishet white male allies can raise a lot of money. Money can help people. These are all facts whether you like it or not. And if you want to see more LGBTQA+ creators in MCC, support them. If you don’t like a certain creator, don’t watch their team. The end.
Don’t know too much about the other three, but I think Grian is good at hosting charity streams. I’ve watched his Love Tropics stream with Iskall (2019?), the first SOS Africa stream with Ren (2020), the MCC 9 stream (2020), and the second SOS Africa stream with Ren, Bdubs, and Scar (2021). Throughout the streams, Grian is consistently respectful and humble. He urges his viewers to donate by patiently talking about the cause in simple terms (since he knows a lot of kids watch him) but without being patronising. Grian also loves putting numbers into things people can measure (eg. How many hot meals can this sum of money buy, if everyone watching right now donated $1 we can reach our goal). Grian also knows his privilege and mentions he’s just a well off guy playing video games in a comfortable place. When Ren thanked him for supporting his fellow South Africans, Grian replied with “we’re all human”. So I believe Grian will spend a lot of his MCCP stream urging viewers to donate, reading out donations, appreciating donations, etc etc. Grian knows his influence and knows how to use it for good. Someone on Twitter mentioned Grian seemed like the type of person to skip this MCC to give more slots for other creators, and I agreed, but then Grian probably thought he could use his influence for good (considering he had MAJOR success for all his past charity streams).
So all in all, I do think this team can raise a lot of money for a good cause. I am okay with this team. But personally I still have some slight issues that probably don’t matter much, but I need to get them out because it’s been eating me alive. All of these so-called “issues” have to do with fanbases, not CCs. Just because I don’t like part of a CCs’ fanbase doesn’t mean I don’t like the CC.
1. This team will probably intensify the “Grian Is The Only Hermit” phenomenon.
A lot of famous CCs only seem to know Grian out of everybody in Hermitcraft (despite False being in every MCC since debut except the non canon ones). They are somewhat akin to the “Grian Only Hermitcraft Watchers”/ “Grumbo YouTube Stan Army”. There’s nothing wrong with knowing Grian only, or only watching Grian, but most of the times the gigantic population of “Grian Only Stans” will neglect Literally Every Other Hermit (except maybe Mumbo). Even when Grian teams with hermits. Hermitcraft fans are mostly used to this bullshit, and they just nicely try to introduce Grian Only Stans to other hermits (which works most of the time).
So to Techno and Wilbur’s fans (I assume Jimmy’s fans are quite familiar with Grian), they’ll go “omg Grian!! Builder!!! Hermitcrafter!!”. This will introduce a bunch of people to Grian/ Hermitcraft (which is great!) but it has a good chance of evolving into the good ole “Grian is the only hermit that matters” thing. Simply because of popularity.
I actually wanted False-Grian-Techno-Wilbur, because Techno and Wilbur actually know False. Techno of course acknowledged her in Dodgebolt, and False and Wilbur have a surprisingly long history of trolling/ annoying each other (from MCC5-9). Wilbur notably trolled Yellow8 and Blue9 by covering up the letters on their uniforms (both hermit teams WITHOUT GRIAN), and when Grian ignored Wilbur around MCC7 Battle Box, Wilbur chose to annoy False instead. False in return seems to notice Wilbur a tiny bit more than general MCC participants (another one she notices is Fundy), such as being amused/annoyed when he overtakes her in Ace Race and gleefully cheering when Wilbur falls.
False is probably the hermit/ hermit adjacent sans Mr Golden Boi Grian with the most “connections” to SBI, Techno and Wilbur know her (Techno forgot about her in MCC 11 but whatever), and she can deal with the three clout people. Which brings me to the next point.
2. Jimmy Solidarity my beloved…
Naturally, Jimmy has already been neglected because he’s the only one who doesn’t have a lot of “clout”. This is different from the last megaclout team Pink8, because Michael and Burren could “lack clout” together. This time, Jimmy doesn’t have anyone with a similar popularity with him. Red10 made me a little more concerned (viewers have pointed out he seems a little bit neglected by the rest of his teammates, especially during DB when they were shittalking Jimmy’s friends).
CCs wise, they will probably/ hopefully be nice and kind (I say hopefully because I cannot trust anyone from DSMP other than HBomb), everyone will get along, no one will be excluded, everyone is happy.
The toxic fans will probably be rabid towards Jimmy (by extension Grian) if they make even a slight mistake, which is why I’m worried about putting a small/medium sized creator with the BIG BIG creators. But, eh. Toxic people will be toxic no matter what. This isn’t an issue exclusive to Pink Parrots.
3. Clashing attitudes?
Hermits and their friends advocate arrow split. Techno does not. What will happen if this team gets to Dodgebolt? Previously, Grian has always been on “arrow split” teams and greatly enjoyed them. Scott has taken care to put people with similar attitudes together. Now what? I have hope that they’re all mature and can compromise, but eh. Grian is strongly against arrow funnelling and calls it not-gentlemanly. I feel Techno will probably let Grian have a few shots since this is a for fun MCC, but what if they get teamed again for some competitive MCC? They’ll probably work it out, but what might their fanbases think?
To conclude, big fanbases = big benefits + big problems. This is not exclusive to Pink Parrots. In fact, I think this is probably the best mix of builders and clout people for this scenario (I personally do not want to see False-Puffy or Ren-Dream). Techno and Wilbur’s fanbases are already the nicer part of the DSMP fanbase.
The most important part is raising money of course, and the silly “issues” I mentioned above don’t mean anything in comparison. Why care about online matters when the money can help people in the real world?
That being sad, I was just a tiny bit salty and I had to get this out. Nonetheless I’m happy about this team, will definitely be interesting (selfishly hope they don’t win because Twitter will be mad a team of cishets won). Anyways, if you’ve read up to here, thank you for reading my ramblings.

I'll be making this into a long fic, but for now I chose to keep it short. Hermitcraft x Dream SMP crossover
Title: button
Grian sat down at the oak wood table, brow furrowed. Another day, another failed attempt to reconnect to Hermitcraft. The strange glitch that had caused the border to fall in the first place must have been repaired, for the world border was back up and running. His communicator didn’t work outside of his home server, and Phil’s crows (who insisted on following the man everywhere, and who Phil had put up to the task of flying between the severs, trying to gather intel on the border glitch and if people were trying to find him) haven’t delivered any news.
The builder glanced out the window as the sun set over the horizon. Past that was Hermitcraft. His home. What was Mumbo doing? Scar? Iskall? Xisuma? How was the war progressing without him? Did anyone notice his absence? No, Grian, don’t get sad. Happy thoughts only...Happy thoughts.
    “Grain!”
Torn away from his thoughts, Grian looked up to see Philza, his dark grey wings fluffed up in distress. “Wil’s sent a letter.” The avian said, holding up a piece of paper.
“Well, that’s good!” Phil had been under extreme stress these past couple of days since Wilbur hadn’t sent a letter in weeks and the past few he had sent were...concerning, to say the least. “What’s it say?”
Another letter should have been a relief, but from the look on Phil’s face, Grian concluded that this letter was everything except relief.
“It’s just a date, time, and coordinates. November 16th, noon, with a set of coords in L’Manberg…” Phil’s voice trailed off as his dark emerald eyes scanned the page, over and over, as if he were looking for more writing than just a simple date.
“That’s tomorrow, innit?” Grian questioned, trying to distract the man from his distress. That’s how Grian ignored his. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. “I mean, you’ll be able to see your sons, check up on Wil?”
“Something doesn’t feel right about this, Grain.” Even after all this time together, Phil still called him Grain. Grian stifled a laugh, as it wasn’t the appropriate time to giggle. “His last few letters concerned me. He mentioned something in his last one about 11 and a half stacks of TNT.” Phil looked Grian dead in the eye and whispered, “Grain, I think Wilbur is going to blow L’Manberg!”
“But why?” Grian attempted to rationalize with the distraught Phil, who was now pacing across the room making stressed-out bird noises. “He won the election, shouldn’t he be content with that?” This type of stuff never happened on Hermitcraft. There were never serious talks of blowing up anyone’s builds, much less an entire country! The only time TNT is used is in pranks, and they always helped clean up after.
“You clearly don’t know Wilbur...He’s a force of chaos, I’ll tell you that. A creative little shit who always comes up with new ways to get what he wants. If he wants L’Manberg gone, then he’ll go to crazy lengths to achieve that goal.”
    Silence fell.
“We need to get to L’Manberg. Now. It’s about a day’s flight from here, and we need to leave now if we want to get there as fast as fucking possible.” Phil tucked the letter into the pocket of his dark green kimono and flexed his wings. Unlike Grian, who used the sleek and slim elytra to fly about, Philza had a pair of actual feathery wings. Upon arrival, Phil explained that he was a bird hybrid, also known as an avian. He had feathers on the sides of his face and neck with elfish ears. Back on Hermitcraft, every member of the server was human.
Grian and Phil started out on their journey north, towards the world border of Dream SMP. The sun had risen, and the world border was in sight. Phil stated that Dream, the apparent Admin of the server, had agreed to let up the border for a few seconds to let Phil and Grian inside. Phil took a rest on a tree, breathing heavily after hours of non-stop flight.
“You alright, Big P?” If Phil could nickname him Grain, Grian would nickname him as well. A smile twinged across Phil’s face.
“Ahh...You sound so much like my youngest, Tommy. He says that to people too. You remind me of him so much. Right down to your red shirt and the aura of pure, unbridled chaos you emit.”
Both men laughed. Grian really enjoyed Phil’s laugh, and despite how giggly and giddy the avian usually was, it had been a few days since he had last heard him laugh. Wilbur’s lack of letters had really spooked him.
“Will you stay?”
“Hmm?”
“In L’Manberg. I mean, it’s closer to your sons.”
Phil shrugged and drank a potion of strength, and stood.
“I might, depending on what happens. If my theory is correct, and Wilbur is going to blow the place up, then I’ll probably stay. Just to help him out and help clean up y’know? Maybe I’ll be able to convince him to come home. Before you got here, I was...really lonely.”
“Well, you won’t be lonely anymore! Since I can’t return home yet, I’ll be your friend so you don’t have to be lonely!”
“Thanks, Grain.”
“You’re welcome, Big P!”
The two rose and started to fly towards the world border. Maybe Grian could make a new home on Dream SMP. The builder already started making plans for an epic build, having a vague idea in his head. However, he would have to inspect the landscapes available to see what his block palette would be and what style his build would be. Grian thought of his mansion back home and wanted to build something similar to remember it.
“Oi! Grain! You there mate?”
Grian shook his head as he was, again, dragged from his daydreams by Phil. They had arrived at the world border. “I’ve sent word to Dream, he should be letting us in soon.”
“Alrighty! What kind of base do you want to build if you stay?”
Phil just shrugged. “Eh. Don’t know just yet. Don’t want to start anything too ambitious, like a Hardcore project.”
Grian kept forgetting that this man held the world record for the longest Hardcore run. Phil was only 5”4 and didn’t look that intimidating. He looked loving and fatherly, and Grian considered Phil to be like a father to him. But the man was a dedicated Hardcore player, and could easily take Grian down in a fight. It scared him, sometimes, about how little he actually knew about Phil.
“Alright, mate, let’s go.” The blue striped border had been removed by the mysterious admin, and the two flew into Dream SMP. Grian felt a buzz from his communicator and pulled it from his pocket.
<Grian joined the game>
<Ph1LzA joined the game>
Unlike in Hermitcraft, when a member joins the server (especially a new member), the entire chat would be flooded with ‘hello!’ messages. However, on the Dream SMP, there were one or two directed at Phil. How peculiar. Phil went silent as they flew over the woods and forest. In the distance, Grian could see what appeared to be a city. That must be L’Manberg. It wasn’t as big or as grand as some builds on Hermitcraft, heck his own base would have taken up over half of the area if he lived there. On a tall pole lay what Grian assumed was the flag of L’Manberg, inky black, with a fiery red arch and X. Interesting design. Phil didn’t go into the city, however, he flew towards the coordinates that Wilbur had written in his letter, his brow furrowed. Fireworks crackled and popped throughout L’Manberg.
Grian landed with Phil, in front of a small tunnel that bore deep into a hill that was just outside the country.
“It’s now or never. Grain, stay behind me.” Phil tucked the letter away and led Grian through the tunnel, and into a compact stone room. Carved into the wall were words. No, not just words. Lyrics.
I heard there was a special place,
where men could go and emancipate.
From the brutality and tyranny of their rulers.
Well, this place was real, you needn’t fret,
With Wilbur, Tommy, Tubbo, fuck Eret.
It’s a very big place, not blown up L’Manberg.
MY L’MANBERG
MY L’MANBERG
MY L’MANBERG…
Those lyrics were carved all over the stone walls, and in the middle, was a stone button. In front of that button, was Philza’s eldest son, Wilbur.
Grian had never actually seen Wilbur before, only in an old picture of when Phil, Wilbur, and Phil’s other two sons, Tommy and Technoblade, won MCC 4. In that picture, Wilbur wore a cute yellow sweater with a brown beanie, with a shimmering smile on his face.
The man that stood before them now was not that person. It couldn’t be. Wilbur stood, hunched over a stone button, whispering to himself. He donned a brown trenchcoat and ditched the beanie.
“What are you doing?” Phil asked.
Wilbur turned to face them. His eyes had no emotion in them, his smile no longer shimmered. Standing before them was an insane man.
“I will admit,” Wilbur said. His voice sent a chill down Grian’s spine, “Do you know what this is? What this button is?” Phil’s speculations appeared to be true. Wilbur was trying to destroy L’Manberg.
“Uh huh. I do.” How, how could Phil be so calm?
“Have you heard the song? The song on the walls?” Wilbur’s fingers gently ran over the words ‘MY L’MANBERG’. His eye twitched, “I was just making a big point you know? About how there was a special place, it was a special place. But that's not there anymore.” Wil’s voice lowered to a hush.
“It is there, Wil, it's out there.”
“PHIL I’M ALWAYS SO CLOSE TO PRESSING THIS BUTTON! I’VE BEEN HERE LIKE SEVEN OR EIGHT TIMES--” Voices from above cut Wilbur off. Grian could hear footsteps above them. Wilbur turned his eyes to the stone ceiling and lowered his voice. “Oh they're going to come…I need to block this off.” Wilbur hastily piled blackstone bricks in the doorway, which not only sealed whoever “they” were out, but also sealed Grian, Phil, and Wilbur in.
“Oh Phil...I’ve been here so many times.”
Numerous fireworks exploded outside.
<Tubbo_ went off with a bang due to a firework fired from [Rocket Launcher] by Technoblade>
“Oh they’re fighting, they’re fighting…” WIlbur whispered, sounding tired.
“And you just want to...to blow it all up? You fought so hard for this land, Wilbur, and you just want to...destroy it all?” Phil tried to reason.
“I don’t even know if the button works anymore, Phil, I could press it, and it might--”
“Do you want to risk it? There is a lot of TNT potentially connected to that button.”
Wilbur seemed to hear him. His breathing got heavier as he returned to that hunched over position over the stone button. What was this place? Nothing serious ever happened on Hermitcraft. There were no seriously high stakes, there were no serious threats, no serious danger. It was all in good fun.
“There...there was a saying, Phil...by, uh, by a traitor. Once part of L’Manberg, don’t know if you ever heard of Eret, but he had a saying.”
Wilbur looked up at Phil. Grian could see the familiar resemblance between the two, they shared emerald green eyes.
“It was never meant to be.” Wilbur whispered that phrase, and pressed the stone button.
