“Told you it would work~”

“Yeah, we took like no damage... I don’t think any of our Pokémon even fainted once!”

“How’d you even come up with this set anyway?”

“I’m glad you asked...”

“First you have to consider Blissey’s stats. She has high Special Defense and the highest HP stat in the game, so she’s perfect for just tanking Charizard’s Special attacks. Couple that with a Calm nature and max HP and Special Defense EVs to those stats even further, and you have a big, fluffy pink sponge that just absorbs Special attacks like they’re nothing.”

“Then, I noticed that these particular Charizard only have Special attacks, so I put Light Screen on Blissey to protect the team and boost my own resistance even further. Next came Charizard’s moves: I wanted to be able to to get rid of Sunny Day’s Fire-boosting effect without also boosting Hurricane’s accuracy, so I used Snowscape instead of Rain Dance. Add Life Dew to provide heals for the team and Thunder Wave to hinder Charizard even more, and you have a recipe for success!”

“Wow! I didn’t understand a word of that!”

“Of course, good support is nothing without good DPS to support. And you guys’ Calm-Minding, Hyper-Beaming, Pixilate Sylveon were perfect for the job, since these Charizard are all Dragon Tera-type!.”

“Genius! Fucking genius!!”

I've been a Pokémon fan since the very beginning and recently a friend asked me who my favourite character was. I couldn't answer with just one character. So instead I gave her my top 3 favourites from each generation - and then turned it into this. lol

A little bit more info under the cut if you're interested.

Gen 1:

Blue: The original rival, you loved to hate him. :D

Erika: I loved her design as a kid, even though I had no idea what a kimono was back then lol

Bill: No idea tbh lol. I like his hair and that he's a nerd, I guess? Honestly, Gen 1 did not have that many memorable and fleshed out characters, so I kinda struggled here.

Gen 2:

Lance: Honestly, he was my fave in Gen 1 already. I love his strength, his design, his virtuousness, his bravery, his code of honour, his everything. To me he's like a knight in shiny armour from old fairytales. lol I could spend a whole day describing all the things I love about him, but I don't wanna bore you.

Eusine: Probably a weird pick for many because he is kinda obnoxious in the game lol I've always had a soft spot for him though and I really wanted him to get Suicune in the end, after he'd changed.

Morty: I love his design and colours and that he's Eusine's bff and voice of reason.

Gen 3:

Steven: He is classy, wears a really awesome suit, has very cool Pokémon and is still a huge nerd. I love it!

Archie: (I see you, @chipsncookies) Big hunk with a big smile and a cool outfit. Beard. Not a bad guy, actually. Learns that he was wrong and does everything to make things right again. Frienemies with Maxie.

Maxie: Scrawny beanpole with a silly (but very cozy looking) outfit. Secretly a dork. Not a bad guy either. Learns from his mistakes and wants to make them right again. Frienemies with Archie.

Gen 4:

Riley: I was a huge fan of Sir Aaron in the movie and Riley is just as awesome. I love his hat too. His personality is also similar to Lance's, so that's a huge plus.

Cynthia: I really, really like her. She is so cool and strong and her theme is amazing. Just like Charizard she's become too popular and that gets a bit tiresome sometimes.

Looker: Okay, I admit, it took me a while to get used to Looker. But now I like his quirky, funny Inspector Gadget shenanigans. What changed my mind was the aftergame of XY. ;__;

Gen 5:

Ingo & Emmet: I couldn't do it. I couldn't choose who of them I like more. So they share the first place.They're a duo anyway. And absolutely inseparable. R-Right?

Elesa: I like her mainly because of the fanon that she's bffs with the subway twins. But she's also not the bitchy supermodel that I first thought she was. She's actually kind and supportive.

Alder: Funny grandpa with awful hair, but a big heart and a great theme song.

Gen 6:

Lysandre: His design always gave me Ganondorf-vibes. That's pretty much it. His goal is stupid.

Emma: Her storyline in the post-game was by far the best thing in XY. And her theme is so beautiful!

Sycamore: I still wish he had actually turned out to be evil. I still like him.

Gen 7:

Kukui: What is not to love about him? He's a hunk, he loves his wife, he takes in Lillie, he punches Pokémon with his bare hands.

Lillie: Sweet little girl who deserves all the love from her friends and her adoptive parents instead of all the shit her psycho bio mother put her through.

Burnet: She's sweet and smart and kind and I wish she had a much bigger role in the game. Her anime part was great though <3

Gen 8:

Piers, Sonia and Raihan: Honestly... These are pretty much the only characters that I remember lol Gen 8 was very underwhelming for me.

Gen 9:

Arven: Just a poor neglected boy who wants to save his sick dog. In contrast to his shitty parents he's got a big heart, is caring, nurturing and supportive.

Clavell: The twist about this character was that there was no twist. He is just a very kind grandpa who genuinely cares for the well-being of his students. I also LOVE his battle theme.

Hassel: This game really is full of wholesome boomers. Hassel's got a huge heart for art and his students and Pokémon. He's also not afraid of showing his emotions.

aaaa im 6 episodes in and i LOVE POKEMON HORIZONS SO MUCH ITS SO GOOOOOOD

ive watched the pokemon anime all my life and honestly i was nervous but excited about the change!! i adore ash pikachu and team rocket, but i have to admit as much as i didnt wanna let them go, i think the series needed the change and it's a lot better off, even if it is a drastic major difference.

and now to go into some parts i love about the anime!:

-liko is AWESOMEEE and i find her really relatable and well written! im also so thrilled sprigatito gets to have such a big role!! i loveee sprigatito so much and seeing it basically be the new pikachu of the animes wonderful!!

-the generation balance is so nice! this anime feels like it takes journeys ideas and makes them THRIVE. journeys had great ideas, but being set in kanto as the hub base was a fatal flaw, dooming the anime to be overshadowed by gen 1.. not to mention that the anime hardly bothers to put spotlight on gen 8. horizons handles this fantastically in two ways! first, the airship is SUCHH a great idea! a fun nice cozy flying hub area for our cast! they can go wherever and tons of different gen pokemon live on the ship and its wonderful!!! secondly, the MUCH better focus on paldea by having liko have sprigatito, roy have fuecoco, and i assume that quaxly on the airships gonna be pretty important soon! you can easily tell this is an anime about scarlet and violet!! whereas journeys.... is hardly an anime about sword and shield. they did so well with this and i love it!!

-also, by having lots of different pokemon owned by the rising volt tacklers and living on the airship, or even things like ann having oshawott, it makes gen 1 feel natural and not forced! like when friede was revealed, i was kinda like.... "oh greattt (sarcasm) a guy with a charizard and pikachu. more gen 1...." BUT NO FRIEDES AWESOME I LOVE HIM!!! by having such a great balance of other generations + a focus on gen 9, charizard and captain pikachu fit in wonderfully and dont feel forced, rather just a nice reminder of the series' roots!

-i really appreciate when a show aimed at kids still has a cast of adult characters with their own depth and stories, making the show connectible and enjoyable for all ages! the owl house and gravity falls come to mind, and pokemon horizons does this wonderfully with the rising volt tacklers! friede, mollie, orla, murdock, and ludlow are all reallyyy great! the rising volt tacklers just have a really nice and cozy atmosphere to them i really like!

-the writing is wonderful!!! all the characters feel so full of life and interesting and i really enjoy seeing them interact and talk and anything really!! the entire cast is just really wonderful!

-the animations great! a big issue i had with journeys is i feel like its animation Reallyyyy lacked in comparison to other pokemon animes. not even xy, but sun/moon or even diamond/pearl and black/white. the animation was really sluggish and lacked impact and the battle choregraphy was really boring, even in scenes as important as ash fighting literal champions. pokemon horizons really stepped it up though! i mean, im not expecting a pokemon anime to ever look like xy again, but the animation and battle choregraphy and everything is MUCHHHH better this time around

-i like how it takes itself seriously at times! i mean i dont want pokemon to be like dark intense and all that. but i think many agree pokemon thrives when it takes itself a Bit seriously, like with black/white, sun/moon, and scarlet/violet. i really felt the emotion from scenes like liko and roy being scared of the explorers but their pokemon calmed them down. i mean, when has ash ever been geniunely worried cause of team rocket? i think it (and the scene later on showing the explorers are much bigger than we initially saw) really gave a lot of impact to the explorers and made them feel much more threatening but made me wanna root for the rising volt tacklers all the more! all in all theres a ton of heart and emotion in the show and i love it!!

-the ancient pokeball reminds me of the gs ball and i love that! if i recall, the gs ball was outright scrapped due to celebi being the focus of its own movie and the creators hoped fans would forget about it. so its super cool they have a similar plotline to one we never got!

-i really love the theme of finding yourself, and the theme song having "i'm becoming me" as a prominent lyric. i mean, i still dont know who i am or what i wanna be, so seeing characters on that same kind of journey is really inspiring and makes me feel.. i dunno, like i can really connect with the show and find myself a bit more by watching it!

anyways even if ive just started it i REALLYYYY love pokemon horizons! i honestly wouldnt be surprised if this became my complete and total favorite pokemon anime, its really just resonated with me in so many ways and i love it!! im super excited to watch more but ill try to space it out so i dont spend all my excitement at once!

Got one. Trainer reader x FNF Poképasta trainers where reader is a jolly cook that owns their own bakery that makes delicious pastries. There’s rumors that the reader kills and uses other Pokémon/people in their cooking as ingredients which may or may not (definitely is) true. The reader is currently on a journey to improve their cooking (while still using Pokémon and people as ingredients). They don’t chop up the Poképasta trainers but they do offer them their cooking. The reader’s main Pokémon are Scizor and Decidueye. It’s all platonic, of course.

Grey

The poor kid doesn’t suspect a thing, especially when he gets out of the game, meets you, and begins experiencing hunger again.

Of course he’d try your cooking! He’d give anything to have a sweet treat again..and boy were you delighted to make one for him (a simple apple pie) especially when you see his eyes light up.

“Wow..this tastes pretty awesome! And uh..it’s got some tartness to it, too. If I-I could ask..what’s in it?”

“Oh, just a lot of love and care......and parts of a Flapple and Appletun.”

“Cool---wait..” He stops, confused for a moment, before smiling nervously. “Haha, y-you mean uh..those sweet and tart apples that make ‘em evolve..r-right?”

“No.” You smile innocently before going into great detail about how your Decidueye shot a Flapple out of the sky, and your Scizor severed an Appletun’s back for its nectar and pie crust during a trip to Galar.

To say he’s shocked that you killed those Pokémon so brutally was an understatement. He's horrified.

Yet...he likes the food and feels somewhat guilty for eating it.

What truly made him lose his appetite is when you casually mentioned making a witness to both hunts “disappear”.

Shinto, on the other hand, could care less about your crimes and is a frequent customer of yours. She'll forcibly drag Grey to your bakery.

Glitchy Red

Like Grey, when he's out of his game he starts feeling hunger.

So when you meet him on one of your journeys (you dress like a vendor NPC but certainly don't act like one, thank god), you invite him to your bakery.

He notices a lot of the pastries are named after Pokémon (ie Flapple Pie, Banana Alcremie Pie, etc.) and initially thinks nothing of it. It seems like a normal innocent bakery...

Until he sees your Decidueye cleaning blood off the floor that trails to the back kitchen and turns to you saying “you kill people"--not posing it as a question, but as a statement

“...nah, folks are just trying to slander my bakery's good name.” You wave him off even though it’s in fact true.

Earlier today, you had a dissatisfied customer and decided to give them a “tour” of your kitchen to see how things are prepped.

In the end, they and their Pokémon proved to be excellent ingredients for today’s special.

Glitchy wasn’t fazed by the blood nor your dark secrets.

You teasingly reassure him that you won’t chop him up, but he doesn’t seem to get the joke as he glares at you and says “if you come near me with that knife, I’ll kill you.”

Despite that, he’ll visit you from time to time, just to see what’s new on the menu or hang out with your Pokémon while he eats.

He never really saw any outside of Kanto because his game was so broken, so he’s intrigued by your Decidueye the most, especially when he witness it shoot a distant Fearow with a single arrow.

Steven

Steven and Mike were frequent customers when you opened up a shop in Kanto.

Miki especially loved the Pokepuffs you sold, as did the rest of their Pokemon. They stopped around so often you knew all of their names!

But after a certain series of tragic incidents, the Charizard had a crazed appetite for meat..and so you’d feed her strips of Lechonk or Swinub bacon. You had plenty to spare...along with ham not made from any Pokémon.

When Steven eventually explains why Mike stopped visiting, you just had this gentle smile on your face, reassuring him it’s okay..because you’ve killed people, too.

He’s in utter disbelief. But only because he went crazy after killing just one person, yet you’ve murdered for your business?? Even training your own Pokémon to carry out the dirty work??? And yet somehow...you seem perfectly guilt-free.

He assumed Missingno influenced you somehow. Maybe during the time he was gone, your business was failing and you struck up a deal with it like he did.

But..you just look at him like “what are you talking about? I’ve been doing this for years.”

“...so you were always this way, and..we never knew?”

“Don’t worry, it’s not like I’m gonna chop you or Miki up. I can see you two share a good bond, like I do with Decidueye and Scizor.”

Lost Silver

You meet him in some dark cavern, along with AWAY, and think ‘wow, both of them look like fresh meat.’

Of course, you won’t say that to this kid since he looked like a corpse who was frozen and then thawed out. Neither of them would be appetizing anyway; not to mention he obviously had supernatural powers beyond using Pokémon.

So you do befriend him, learning his name and inviting him to your bakery in the nearby town.

At first Gold was reluctant, but one night while you’re closing, he pops in unexpectedly. He would’ve startled you (though not on purpose) if it weren’t for Scizor noticing him right away and trying to scare him off.

“Hey, don’t worry, Sy! He’s welcomed here.”

It turns out he just wanted some company and try your desserts, but was nervous about going with you in broad daylight.

Despite knowing you actually hunt Pokémon (and maybe people) for ingredients, him and his own team like the food!

It reminds him of what his mom used to make and...he kinda has a meltdown about it. You worry that you've upset him somehow.

But he’s okay! You just indirectly brought back one of his good memories.

Since then, you made sure he was welcomed back to your bakery any time of day.

omg I need to. Write you guys about this

So recently my life took couple of mf flips and eventually I ended up back in my home city (which is in fact, awesome)

And I struggled to get a job anywhere until I visited my old elementary school which is the purest place on the whole earth. I love this school. I love how they teach. I love the teachers. They all remember me and love me back.

The principal, who is absolutely my second mother like fr (they even share the same name), asked if I knew that one of my old classmates works there as daycare room attendant. I said that I do know and I actually came to also visit her! The talk went on and she asked if maybe one day I’d work for them as well

And I just stood there like 🧍🏽well actually

And WELL HERE I AM, they made me a whole ass arts and crafts teacher

I got 3 classes to teach so far and they’re pretty sweet kids! Willing to work if the subject interests them enough, very talkative, they’re awesome, honestly.

And just the funniest things keep happening

Y know how kids are very much present in social media these days and as much as we would love parents to control their screen time a bit more, it happens either way

Like on TikTok? You keep seeing literal kids on TikTok, 7-10 year olds n stuff

these guys. Know. Memes.

And they keep referencing to them. They dance. They quote. One of my students dabbed at me today because I praised the flower she drew for a reference for the class.

AND I KEEP FORGETTING THEY ALL PLAY GAMES WHICH IS SUPER OBVIOUS THEY DO BUT THEY TALK ABOUT IT SO OPENLY!!

you guys have no idea how it feels to walk into the classroom and spot those gremlins wearing shirts with Amongus or Fortnite and every second one of them has a Minecraft themed backpack next to their desk

Today one of my students had a pencil case with Minecraft Story Mode characters and I bawled internally

AND ALL THAT??? I mean it in the nicest possible way

Cause just as much as those games are usually kinda cringe or memes to us, to them??? They’re interests! And it’s honestly, genuinely so cool to see they’re not worried to show them off☺️

The funniest thing to me so far is actually talking to them about the games, when you’re a teacher. Cause from what I observed, to them, it feels like something absolutely out of this world. Teacher? Knowing THEIR interests??

I had second graders today and they were making tiny Pokémon figurines with clay (ditching the task I gave them but it was pretty late and tbf we were all tired). I praised the small Pikachu and asked if they could put together a figurine of Bulbasaur, because we were having a spring lesson. THEY WERE OUT OF THEIR MIND, they proceed to ask HOW DO I KNOW THIS?? WHY DO I KNOW THIS?? WHAT IS THE ELEMENT OF A CHARIZARD AND WHAT DOES HE EVOLVE TO???

We continued to have small chats about either Fortnite or Minecraft, still to their surprise that a teacher knows of their interests.

After that long day, I sat down to my mom’s car, fastening my seatbelts and had a single tear running down my cheek

“You said playing games will never be useful in my life,” I started, looking at her.

“You were wrong.”

hi!!!, Can you please write something about how young Friede get his pikachu. I'm kinda obsessed with them.

Okay so initially I had an idea until they announced the summary for episode 18. After watching it, I decided to fill this prompt in a way by writing an in between scene of that episode featuring younger Friede and Cap. Hopefully it still fits within the prompt, and if not, my apologies for that! I hope it'd be an enjoyable read still!

Series: Pokemon Horizons

Characters: Friede, Captain Pikachu

While Orla did an awesome job in creating the Brave Asagi, they still needed to put in a lot of work before this airship could take to the skies. For starters, Friede needed to go through the proper hoops to legally operate an airship. Next they had to hash out details of important aspects like their supplies, means of earning funds to keep this ship running and the like.

It felt like every day he faced a new set of problems that gave him a headache but quite frankly, Friede didn’t mind it as much. This was all to make the Rising Volt Tacklers soar high in the sky. They’d want to make it as peaceful as possible, after all.

He spent the better part of the morning working out what they need to keep the engine room running. Friede offered Charizard to help with firepower if needed but obviously they couldn’t rely on just his starter. The pair decided to catch more Fire-types if they had the opportunity to help Orla out in there.

At some point, Cap probably found the talk too boring for his tastes so he left the meeting room early. Friede wondered about his partner’s whereabouts but figured he was somewhere on the ship at least. In the meantime, he made the short trip below deck towards his room.

When Friede pushed open the door, he paused mid step into the room. His eyes quickly zeroed in on Cap standing on top of his desk. He was staring at himself in the mirror, pawing at the captain’s hat on top of his head with his button nose all scrunched up.

Various thoughts immediately came to his mind. Friede genuinely forgot that Cap was a wild Pikachu until recently. The concept of accessories never once crossed his mind, nor was it something he’d naturally consider anyway. Pikachu typically communicate via squeaks and tail shakes. They also send messages to one another–or with other Electric-type species–by using electricity.

What kind of genius Pokemon Professor am I if I forgot something this simple? he mused, resisting the urge to rub the back of his head in mild frustration. Throughout the airship’s construction, he was dead set on having Pikachu be the captain. To commemorate it, he made the trip from Slateport City all the way to Lilycove, wanting to check out its large department store to find a small captain’s hat.

As to keep it a surprise, Friede had Cap stay with Ludlow that day. Finding one that fit Cap’s measurements didn’t take too long–it seemed that nautical themed accessories were pretty popular in Hoenn seeing that it was a landmass surrounded by the sea–but he wanted it to be extra special. He paid extra to have a custom emblem attached to it, feeling pretty pleased with the idea of fashioning the ‘F’ from his name (and freedom) to emulate wings. He thought it was fitting for them that will be flying high and free.

When Friede unveiled the hat and place it on Pikachu’s head, he seemed to like it, accepting his new role as captain with pride. Captain Pikachu had a nice ring to it, and he needed a clear tell for others to know that too. Friede honestly believed that it was a good idea.

Now, seeing Cap fiddle with the hat, his stomach churned slightly from guilt. Had Cap simply followed along with his whims, caught up in the heat of the Rising Volt Tackler’s formation? From what Friede knew of his personality from the weeks he spent researching on him, Cap was confident, self assured and would quickly show his displeasure if he didn’t like something (or someone. Ah, he could almost feel the phantom touch of Cap headbutting him in the stomach).

If Cap really didn’t like the hat, surely he would have shown it the moment Friede place it on his head right?

Then again, it was his lacking ability in understanding a Pokemon’s emotions that led him to stagnate. Friede theoretically knew a lot about them but he didn’t consider that Pokemon too had their personal wants and desires. There won’t always be a logical reasoning behind their behavior. He can’t just check off a list and claimed this was how all Pikachu would behave.

They might have formed a bond but it was still new. Friede had a lot to learn about his partner, and it felt like he already missed the mark from the start.

Lost in his thoughts, Friede didn’t realize his hum caught Cap’s attention. He found himself face to face with the Pikachu who looked surprised to see him here.

Swallowing down his rising doubt, Friede plastered on a friendly smile as he properly entered his room. “Hey Cap! I was searching for you. Seems like you’re… checking out the hat, eh? I guess it’s not something that you’re used to, huh? You don’t have to wear it if makes you feel uncomfortable, yeah?”

Try as he might, Friede couldn’t fully mask the mild disappointment in himself for failing to understand his partner. He genuinely thought it was a good idea, one that Cap liked but he also won’t force Cap to do things he wasn’t comfortable with. Establishing that early on should show Cap that Friede saw him as equals, hopefully deepening their bond going forward.

Cap’s button nose scrunched up once more. For a moment, Friede thought he somehow messed things up again. Before he can say anything, Cap adjusted the hat till it settled nicely between his ears.

He then turned to the mirror, striking a confident pose with his arms crossed and head tilted upwards. After that, Cap turned to him to flash the same thumbs up that he did when they were higher than the sun. He maintained that pose for a few seconds before taking the hat off. If Friede didn’t know any better, it looked like Cap was embarrassed.

It took a few seconds for Friede to properly understand the meaning behind Cap’s actions. Warmth bubbled within his chest, his lips trembling from the effort to keep his smile from stretching ear to ear.

Cap was… assuring him that he liked the hat. He saw past his mask, showing Friede that he didn’t read him wrong. Perhaps it’d still take time for Cap to get used to wearing it but he didn’t hate it like he (secretly) feared. Cap could have just worn it but he went the extra mile of posing to really drive the point home.

Oh, he really does have an awesome partner.

Friede quickly closed the distance between them to scoop Cap up. The Pikachu squeaked in surprise, cheeks sparking in mild warning. He didn’t care about the potential electrocution in his near future. All Friede could think about was how kind, considerate and awesome Cap was.

Chuckles slipped past his lips before they settled into a goofy grin. “Aww, you look so cool Cap! That’s my partner! Anyone who sees you and not think you’re the epitome of awesome doesn’t know a Pikachu from a Plusle!”

The rush of compliments seemed to make Cap even more embarrassed. He tugged down the rim with his paws as a partial cover but Friede didn’t miss the tiny smile he sported.

Friede decided to hold off the rest lest he pushed Cap past the point of embarrassment and into the ‘you better shut up before I make you’ stage. He still had nothing to counter for electric shocks after all.

With one last chuckle, Friede brought Cap up so he could settle on his shoulder. He then looked at their reflection in the mirror.

Friede wore his usual Charizard themed shirt with a jacket on top while Cap was in his hat. Seeing that they were going to travel all over the world, he supposed he too should wear the part. Depending on parts of the ocean they’d cross and the high altitude, he certainly needed to dress warmer. Perhaps some aviator goggles too for the flights he’d likely do on Charizard.

Well, Friede had plenty of time to figure out his personal wardrobe. The Brave Asagi had yet to make its maiden voyage, and with the time they’d likely spend in various corners of the world, inspiration might strike when he least expected it to.

In the meantime, they were plenty of other things to figure out first. Orla handled the ship’s maintenance but they lacked manpower for other important aspects of running an airship. For the time being, they’d take turns making food for everyone on board. In the case of an emergency, Friede knew how to perform first aid but he lacked proper knowledge to treat anything serious.

So many things to consider that it left his head spinning after. Still, he wouldn’t have it any other way. Friede would take figuring out the logistical nightmare of keeping this airship running over researching in a lab any day of the week.

“We’re going to be super busy, huh Cap?” he murmured, raising a finger to lightly rub Cap underneath his chin. “There’s probably going to be a lot of problems but we won’t give up, yeah?”

Like the Pikachu who never gave up in flying to see the horizon, the Rising Volt Tacklers too would get past whatever problems they faced so they can fly towards a new horizon every day.
