I need some kind of a photoshop lesson for this aesthetic of yours

okay i’m gonna do a tutorial real time for a picspam type aesthetic that will look like this ⇣ a photo i will put here once i make it.

step one. open ps : )

okay so dimensions r a thing tumblr compresses photos like hella so i do all my still img aesthetics 900x900 is you’re trying to do this for say insta i would actually recommend jumping up to 1080x1080. pixels, obviously. idk if i have to clarify that.

so click ctrl+n or create new i’ll be doing 900x900

these r the rest of my settings i personally do not think they matter my resolution stays at 72 the only thing i’ve detected this affecting is font size. (side note notice how this pic looks all fuzzy? that’s bc it’s a ss with a boatload of pixels. and if there’s one thing tumblr hates. it’s pixels. and then it’s users. but who’s counting? tumblr is. i recommend keeping ur still images 900x900♥)

step two is collecting ur images i personally use pinterest for these bc quite frankly it’s really nice & easy to find these types of photos esp if you’re looking for a canon character bc if you type in [character name] aesthetic you’ll get stuff if you don’t quite frankly even just type in aesthetic you can scroll until you find an image you like click on that and go through like images underneath it and keep burning thru. like u probably know how to work pinterest. but i am being thorough and covering my bases. searching [color] aesthetic is also nice or even searching a character that isn’t the character you’re doing this for but who’s kind of similar that also works. i recommend esp for charmed bc their pinterest gets bogged down with screencaps and then like. charms like jewelry searching “charmed aesthetic” or “phoebe halliwell aesthetic” really just doesn’t cut it so what i’d recommend is instead of going through pins, go through boards.

bc like. big difference. other pro tips if you see a board you like, go to the person’s profile and check out their other boards bc odds are you’ll find more you like. another protip if you’re specifically doing ocs typing in oc aesthetic will get you a lot even going to the boards on that as well. yields.

so. you’ve gathered ur images. u need five. open em. i’m making an aesthetic 4 myself which you’ve probably already guessed from the fact i’m putting the finished piece at the top, but it’s not ready yet so it’s still a surprise for me. 

cropping. if ur doing a 900x900, use these setting exactly. 1080x1080 use 1080/2 x 1080/3. i’m not doing the math 4 u ♥

most important part? Delete Cropped Pixels. otherwise ur not really doing anything. crop all five images.

but them in ur document. document? psd? ur thing ♥ place them places. u do not have to commit now. leave one middle one blank. it does not matter which one. i personally like to alternate my text pieces if i’m doing a long post like what i did on my ncwotng set. some people keep them all on the same side. this lowkey bugs me i feel like it throws off the Balance but i imagine some people like The Consistency. i don’t. but w/e. it’s up to u as this is gonna be ur set. also like. as you’ve cropped these to x/2,x/3 settings they should fit nice like puzzle pieces : )

the next step i personally like doing is creating by text box with The Color™ do this bc simply duplicating one of ur images, shoving it in the empty slot, and converting into a sharp object. edit contents.

now. obvi i selected these images w a color scheme in mid. i recommend u do the same. even if it’s just vague. they don’t all have 2 fit. this is my example of my sheridan piece b4 or after. tweaking is possible. layers w masks r ur friend. i can talk about them more if need be.

But. back 2 the smart object. brush tool. paint it.

the text i used was times new roman all caps 40pt font 0 spacing for the title and times new roman 14pt font 0 spacing italics for the subheading. here’s my dency b4 and after for comparison

next step is after you have your text in alright, shove everything into groups. mode on “normal”

then you can start editing. the groups let you edit things like lighting and color without touching any of the layers below it 👍

i’m not gonna do a Major coloring tutorial, for lighting i’ll usually tinker with exposure, levels, sometimes brightness/contrast. for colors, color balance + hue/saturation. i rarely touch anything else.

i’ll bring u along 4 the coloring of this one bc i’m gonna add a layer mask.

so the first thing i’m going to do bc the paper itself is already close to the vibe is i’m going to color it normal and just ignore the background

something like that. then i’m going to add a layer mask (square button w the plus sign)

and then i’m going to eye dropper a color off from somewhere else

now i was talking about the “normal” blend mode stops ur color settings from bleeding over onto other images? does not apply to painting on layers but you’re already masking this bad boy, so it doesn’t matter. just don’t say i didn’t warn u

i’d recommend using a really ridiculous blend mode to clean up ur thing at first, i’m using darken which isn’t that wild but like whatevs.

okay so now that you’ve kinda gotten everything figured out. change ur text box color again. i’m introducing u to ye ol trick that is not the paint brush. but. hue/saturation on colorize more yeah babyyyyy

Now. Trick To Make Everything Super Cohesive™. put things above All of your groups.

reorganize ur thing bc u don’t like how it looks.

leave out the text box tho. the sharpened text can look weird. it’s ur choice, but with these settings,, cronch.

A la Dency taking Chris’ place ask, what if Dency got stranded there… because like her timeline got destroyed or something idk like imagine her getting to live in the main timeline 👀 IMAGINE her meeting Cole in the seven year witch

i love just like. the logistics of her meeting cole. bc let’s say that they’re linked bc they both still have echoes of the source and therefore are tied to each other so she can see him. but she still can’t see piper bc for some reason no one could see piper in this episode. so everyone’s all running around the house trying to save piper trying to save leo when dency just sees this whole grown ass man in her living room in conversation with something she can’t see and she’s like who the hell are you who are you talking to what are you doing in my house and phoebe and paige are like sweetie,, who are you talking to and piper’s like cool cole time to pay penance and act as the messenger so i can explain exactly what’s going on and coles like wait give me a minute who are you and why can you see me and piper’s like wait you don’t know who she is and cole’s like why should i know who she is and dency’s like who are you talking to is that piper can you communicate with piper and phoebe and paige are only getting 1/3 of this conversation like what.. the fuck. what is going on and piper’s like i’ll explain to you who that is if you get my message through to my sisters and cole’s like why should i care who that is and piper’s like i’m sorry i thought you were here to make up for all the evil you’ve done not just be a dick and get on my nerves, now tell her that it’s me piper and cole’s like fine that’s piper and dency’s repeating out loud for phoebe and paige okay piper’s here and piper’s like i’m stuck with cole he’s trying to save my marriage for some reason and cole’s like she’s here with me because i’m trying to save her marriage and make up for the wrong i’ve done and dency’s like this dude is trying to save piper and leo to make up for the wrong he’s done?? and paige and phoebe are like What Guy. and piper’s like don’t answer that tell her what you told me about the psychic shock and cole’s like so if piper moves out of the void between life and death and crosses over, the leo should be able to feel it and it’ll break whatever spell the elders cast on him and dency’s like but then won’t piper be dead and phoebe and paige are like why will piper be dead Who Are You Talking To Right Now and cole’s like look leo will be able to feel her death and he’ll come save her that’s the best option and piper’s like or you guys could find a better alternative and cole’s you can try to find another way but this is your best option and piper’s like that’s not remotely what i said and dency’s like okay so if piper dies it’ll cosmically shock leo and give him back his memories all that, and then he can save piper. unless we come up with a better option and phoebe’s like okay i vote we come up with a better option i’m gonna call darryl and see if he can help us track leo down and cole’s like okay i passed along your message why should i care about that girl and piper’s like bc she’s your daughter and cole almost short circuits and he’s looking at dency and now of course the resemblance is obvious but it still doesn’t make any sense how is she here alive not the source what and dency did not get any of piper’s half of the conversation and now cole’s just looking at her like 😦 and dency’s like hey. i don’t know why you should care about me either. what did piper say. and cole looks like he might actually start crying and the words are getting caught in his throat and dency’s looking at paige whattt the fuck is going on and paige is like what the fuck is going on? and dency’s like i don’t know you!! but now the gears are turning in her head bc clearly she should know this man and piper’s like she might have some issues, yeah, but wouldn’t you want her to know and dency’s like paige help me out skinny white guy, six foot something, late thirties early forties dark hair green eyes and cole’s just like my name is cole right as paige goes cole??!?!? and phoebe from the kitchen is like COLE!?!?!? and dency just straight up doesn’t react bc like. that’s her dad. that’s her dad and the former source of all evil and a man she swore she hated just like in front of her trapped in the cosmic plane between life and death crying because he met her and also trying to save piper and leo’s marriage like what. what. what is she supposed to do with that. what is she supposed to say. hi dad. i hate you for making me who i am and i hate you for everything you did to mom it’s nice to meet you sorry you’re crying i turned out pretty okay thanks for trying to save piper and leo. does that cover everything? and meanwhile paige and phoebe are having a mini breakdown in the corner like where are you! we don’t trust you you’re trying to kill piper again leave us alone! and cole’s sitting on the couch crying and piper’s like okay i gotta deal with this so she just goes up to phoebe and places her hand on her hand and phoebe starts and we hear empath chimes and paige is like what what’s going on and phoebe’s like it’s piper. i can feel piper. and piper looks at cole and cole’s just like 😢 and piper nods her head at him like get up here and cole like stands up and moves to piper like uhhhhhh what do you want me to do and dency’s looking at him like What Is He Going To Do and piper’s like take her hand, cole and so cole like gently touches phoebe and phoebe starts and she’s like cole and paige balls up another piece of paper ready to throw it again and tears sorta prick at phoebe’s eyes and she just smiles and nods a little and dency sees cole back away and then like fade into the great cosmic void and piper’s like hey what about spirit guiding me and no one can here her but phoebe just looks pointedly like don’t worry piper. we’ll get leo back. and piper’s watching phoebe stare dramatically in the wrong direction and she’s like thanks. also i’m over here.

“catholic middle school will leave the funniest long term effects on people”

Truer words have never been spoken! Also Dency and Penn going to a Catholic middle school is hilarious to me? Catholic High school is also equally as wacky in a repressed sort of way.

Is there any reason why the girls decided to send them there? Bc they are wiccans…?

i mean like you really don’t need to be of any religious affiliation to go to a catholic school i toured a catholic high school once and they had a nice little infographic in the brochure like no! you don’t need to be catholic to go here! you can be any religion! & a lil pie chart of all the different religious affiliations within the student body and while some people might pick a catholic school for it’s catholicism, i feel like most people just pick it because it’s a private school and most private schools just like are catholic schools. i actually have a friend who is jewish who went to catholic middle school because you know like public school kinda dicey mom and dad wanted her at a middle school that like. didn’t have a high pregnancy rate. and maybe gang activity?? idk they stopped letting us wear red for a year. it was a little weird. it was public school. so yeah i think you pick a private and in turn catholic middle school just because you want kinda a better education for your child i mean it’s middle school so all you’re really paying for is a smaller class size & the fact that you’re kid’s gonna kill it at biblical allegories in their english 101 class.

but yeah in regards to the girls being wiccan i mean well a) you’re not really gonna find a wiccan school the way your find catholic schools you know and then b) they already attend magic school which really i guess what wiccan school would be and then like c) i don’t think the girls are particularly devout. like it’s implied they practice the sabbaths in the day magic died and that they id as wiccan from like piper’s line in the importance of being phoebe little wiccans have very big ears!! and also you know like. prue’s funeral. has a very wiccan slant to it. but at the same time you know you have with with the church in i’ve got you under my skin & also her abundance of cross necklaces i also think phoebe is somewhat of a practicing buddhist so i don’t think the girls strictly follow the religious aspects of wicca so much as they like. keep with the traditions and practices.

Hi! I’ve recently fallen down the Charmed rabbit hole again and I fount your blog, which is amazing btw !! I LOVE YOUR CHARMED NEXT GEN FIC!!!! I also really enjoyed your thoughts about Phoebe's kid! I wish they would have lived in the actual show. How do you think Phoebe’s child living would have impacted her relationship with Coop? And the whole twice blessed prophecy?

as far as phoebe’s kid + the twice blessed prophecy, i have written on that au here, but i think if the baby really had been born it would not be the twice blessed but i do think they would still probably give that plotline to wyatt just bc. i also think that having a child and being a single mother would really further the need for coop bc dating as a single mom while still having a career is hard enough but dating while you’re a single mom with a full time job and a magical half demon baby who was lowkey the antichrist for the better part of the first trimester is a whole new can of worms. i think she still would have had a relationship with jason dean but i think it would be very short lived as i don’t think that he would be ready to commit to a family. and then by the time we hit season six and piper and leo have broken up and jason has left phoebe and yada yada yada phoebe would really be like huh. love isn’t real. we’re all gonna die alone.

and so she’s sitting at a cafe with paige at the end of love’s a witch and is completely ranting about how love is dead or whatever and paige is just like yeah. uh huh. yep. totally. yeah. yeah. i know what you mean. yeah. uh huh. bc it’s totally Not the time to bring up the fact that she has a date with richard on friday and phoebe’s just going on and on like “okay bc look at olivia! she was doing what she was doing out of love!! and she was killing people!!! just an evil, sad, lovesick, ghost. like me. you know cole was my longest relationship? that was like,,, the most successful relationship i had, and it wasn’t even remotely a success!! he turned me evil, paige. i became evil. because that’s what love does. it bring out the worst in people.” and paige is sitting there like jfc i think i need to bring in a shrink or something when all of a sudden the dude pulls up a chair at their table and is like “hi hate to interrupt but i couldn’t help but overhear and you’re wrong” and phoebe’s like who the hell are you and paige is like yeah fuck off buddy private conversation here and this guy’s like “look. love is the strongest magic we have” and paige is like “ehh i think other, stronger magic” and phoebe’s all like “okay, i don’t know who you are, but you don’t know me and you don’t know what i’ve been through okay so you don’t get to sit down here and try to talk to me about love. bitch.” and this guys just like “actually, i do. my name’s coop. it’s nice to meet you, officially.” and he holds out his hand for a handshake and phoebe’s looking at him like imma judo flip u motherfucker but then something catches her eye and she snatches his hand and flips it over, staring at his cupid ring and she’s like no. she grabs her coffee and storms out leaving coop and a Very Confused paige sitting at the cafe table. she turns around at the exit and gestures to paige like come on let’s go get out of here so paige grabs her croissant and purse awkwardly and leaves and coop’s like “i hope everything goes well with richard!” and paige is like????? so she pulls phoebe aside like Who Was That and phoebe’s like “that was the most annoying, pesky, interfering magical creature there is out there. that was a cupid.”

and later that night phoebe would be tucking her child asleep (who in this story is a little girl named prudence) when she hears “you love her, and it doesn’t seem to bring out the worst in you.” and she whips around to find coop leaning in the doorframe and she’s like “you better leave before i vanquish you” and coop sorta just laughs softly and he’s like “i get it. you’ve been burned before. but actively fighting love? it’s not you, phoebe.” and she’s like “tf do you think you know about me” and coop’s like “i know you believe in love. true love. the kind that takes your breath away, where it's the first thing that you think about when you wake up in the morning. you wanna know how i know that?” and phoebe just glares at him in a very defensive stance like yes i want to know but no i will not play into your stupid little monologue and coop’s like “i read your column. not many people could write like that. you help people find love every day, you help them reach out, take risks, open up their hearts-” “okay you know what i’ve had enough of your little sugar coated soap opera speech. go bug someone else.” and phoebe pushes her way past him and beelines for her bedroom, slamming the door and coop’s like :|

and the next morning phoebe’s eating cereal and by eating a i do mean just pushing wheaties around in a pool of milk while dency and wyatt play in the playpen and piper comes in with a mug of coffee like “good morning how are-” “am i a cold hearted cynic?” “...you doing this fine friday morning??” “i’ve got a cupid on my ass” “i’m going to hope you mean the magical kind and not some bad tattoo situation” “i mean, yesterday i was saying that love brings out the worst in people and now i’ve got this 6′2″ cupid with a square jawline following me around. but like,,, don’t i have the right to say that??? all love has done is hurt me. i’m allowed to bitch a little about it!! like! mind your own business??? goddamn! and you know-” “phoebe i just woke up save the onslaught until after 10am please” and phoebe just sorta pauses and goes back to pushing her cereal around and piper says “and i’m not calling you a cold hearted cynic but... you have changed” and phoebe’s completely ready to rant again like “pfft of course i’ve changed you think you can be married to the source of all-” “zp! not til after 10!” and phoebe slumps back and watches as dency draws a small pattern in frost on the tile floor and you can tell she’s sorta mulling over what coop said blah blah blah this episode is the vortex demon she gets knocked into a world based on her innermost desires and in it she’s happily married and in love in an apartment of her own raising her daughter and writing her column blah blah blah she takes one look at her finger that very much has a wedding band on it and is like “cupid!!!! cupid u fuckin bastard get down here!!! cupid!!!” and no response and she’s scowling like “coop??? coop!!!!!!!!” and he’s no where to be seen and she’s like wait shit i think this is the alternate whirlpool vortex things i gotta find my sister blah blah blah chris knocks paige into phoebe’s world and paige is like “okay what’s the catch” and phoebe’s like “what catch” and paige is like “you know, the catch! what makes this not reality. like in my world, magic was practiced openly, and everyone knew about it. come on, chris said the realities were shaped my like our fantasies or wants... is anything different here??” and phoebe’s like “oh you know uhh not really everything basically the same um but you know i have my own apartment here where i live with dency...” “oh my god wait where is she now who’s taking care of her?” “oh uh well that would be my husband.” “cole’s alive????” “no! not cole! i don’t know who he is actually but he seems nice :)” and there’s a beat where you can tell paige really wants to Get Into What This Means and phoebe really Doesn’t Want To Talk About It but then they both seem to agree that they’re being hunted by a demon so maybe this can take a back seat rn blah blah blah they kill the demon and the end of the episode paige is about to go on her date w richard and her and phoebe have a little heart to heart and paige is like i think you should talk to the cupid bc i think maybe your whole hating love thing might just be a front like i think you’re trying to convince urself of something blah blah blah and phoebe’s just like :/ maybe so.

alright blah blah blah next episode phoebe’s like “coop?” and coop, suddenly appearing behind her is like “yeah?” and phoebe’s like “i give up. so uh work your little cupid magic or whatever and i guess let’s do this thing.” and coop like lights up he’s like so happy and he’s all like “great! let’s get started!” and phoebe’s mentally preparing for a series of really boring dates but then coop surprises her by not doing that??? like he doesn’t set her up with anyone at all bc he’s all like you need time to heal and find urself again???? which honestly phoebe isn’t complaining about and like phoebe will be feeding baby dency in the kitchen and coop will pop in like “what are your thought on taking a pottery class?” and it’s happened before where she’s been so swamped with work that she doesn’t have time to pick up supplies for dency so coop will just go out and like buy diapers?? and gradually phoebe feels herself opening up more and more and one night she’s at p3 and this guy come up to talk to her and she doesn’t just scowl him away and she finds herself having a great conversation and she see coop wink at her from across the bar.

and you know things go well with this guy yada yada yada but one night she goes out on a date and her sisters weren’t able to watch lil dency for her so coop was babysitting and she comes back home to see coop sending out small pink glowing projections from his ring and her baby just laughing uncontrollably trying to catch them and phoebe gets why she has been ready to dive fully in to the guy she’s been going out with. coop says it’s just nerves bc of her past relationships and that it’s completely fine and understandable but phoebe knows better. or at least now she does. she’s in love with coop.
