ok but how is it even possible that cas would raise sam from perdition and just? forget his soul? it makes no sense. i've always thought of souls in the spn universe as like, people's essence. and when people go to hell what goes is their soul. the body is just a meatsuit powered by the soul. it's important, it's got the brain and the muscle and the memories, but without the soul it doesn't mean much. it's just a machine. and cas knows that, he literally can see souls. he wouldn't be fooled by an empty body.

plus if it was that easy for cas to go down to the cage and retrieve someone why didn't he also get adam? the obvious answer is it wasn't easy, and cas fought tooth and nail for sam but couldn't get adam. but if adam was too difficult to get but sam wasn't, then idk a part of me thinks it might not have been random. like maybe lucifer let cas take sam and snatched his soul back at the last second, just for fun. let soulless sam wreak havoc on earth, and as a nice bonus lucifer still got to play with sam's soul. win-win.

but also. what if. what if cas did fight and manage to get sam in spite of lucifer. but sam's soul made the decision to stay behind. out of guilt, stockholm syndrome, idk. it's just stuff i like to think about sometimes because i like pain a lot.
