I think Freminet has some of the most interesting dissonance in his self perception of any Genshin character.

Like, of the Hearthlings we know, he's one of the most emotionally mature and intelligent. Lynette might still have him beat, but after playing her hangout... I dunno. I think they're tied. Lyney is Crumbling, Alrecchino is. Well. Arlecchino. Everyone else is a deeply traumatized child or adult and Freminet seems to pretty regularly be people's emotional support. His character stories talk about getting his vision by saving a bunch of other kids on a dive that went bad. The Selkie event literally had him being a therapist for a grownass woman, citing his past experiences with all the other Hearthlings that have died or killed themselves. And he handled that situation WELL. Yeah, he seems to live in a fantasy, but goddamn he's alive and a lot of people in his position aren't so clearly something is working.

Either his or Lyney's character story talks about the time Freminet had reached out to Lyney to try to ease his burdens, which resulted in Lyney blowing up at him. That probably contributed to Freminet thinking he's not good at it, but I think the reason Lyney reacted so badly was BECAUSE Freminet is actually a good support. He can't allow himself that from the little brother he's supposed to protect.

Freminet seems to both cry and dissociate often, but like... Kiddo you are in fact the only person in this family actually processing your emotions. Lynette dissociates 24/7. Arlecchino. Lyney lies and tells everyone he's fine and would literally rather die than admit otherwise. In comparison, Freminet is doing FANTASTIC

Freminet also gets a lot out of helping people! Like anyone, he needs to feel useful and needed. He seems to be an excellent mentor to the younger Hearthlings and perfectly competent on his own, but when you put him in a room with Lyney and Lynette who baby him and insist that THEY take care of HIM, he withdraws into himself.

Like, Freminet by himself feels like a young man and Freminet with the magician twins feels like a teenager. I have no idea how old he actually is. Logically, he would be OLDER than them! He's been with the House much, much longer and his experience shows. I think it's fascinating that they love him SO MUCH and yet, they just Cannot let him help them. Which is hurting him.

(Lynette is much better about not babying him and that is probably why their relationship is so much better than Freminet and Lyney's. Also why she keeps having to mediate between them. Because Lyney charges off trying to Fix Everything and that just makes Freminet feel useless and he doesn't want to get in the way and- you get the point)

Idk. It's hard to tell what things the previous director said to him vs what Arlecchino has said to him. I'm inclined to think our Arlecchino was the one that said he cries too much, but in a "crying in front of your enemies will get you killed" way and she herself is too fucked up to realize how "you cry too much" could be damaging.

Also I try not to consider gameplay stuff when it comes to story, but Freminet also has some of the most BRUTAL animations. He SMASHES HIS EMOTIONAL SUPPORT METAL PENGUIN INTO HIS ENEMY'S FACE. He doesn't think he's the most amazing fighter, and by Fatui standards he probably isn't, but he is winning fights against most grown men.

it’s only 10 o’clock but here they are, drunk in steve’s living room. steve’s laying on the floor, staring up at the ceiling with glossy eyes and an amused smile on his lips.

robin is sitting upside down on the couch, head dangling over the cushion and legs tossed over the back. she makes the move to sit up slowly, giving her brain a chance to re-center. she blinks slowly at him. “what’s your secret?” she yawns and stretches her arms over her head.

steve seems to contemplate speaking any further. another swig from the bottle of, honestly, cheap vodka they picked up loosens his lips enough.

“i keep…keep watchin’ indiana jones. th’ second one,” he mumbles, turning his face to squish his cheek into the carpet.

it surprises a laugh out of her and she’s quick to slap a hand over her mouth at the wounded expression that takes over her face. “sorry, sorry. um…why’s that like…a problem? it’s a good movie.”

“the problem, bobbie,” steve rolls onto his back again to look at her, “‘s that i don’t know if it’s actually a good movie. i’ll say i watch it f’r the…the plot, but i don’ have a clue what happens in it. all i know…is harris’n ford…loses like a chunk of his shirt at some point.”

that seems to catch her attention as robin’s suddenly leaning over him, her hair failing into his face. her eyes dart all over his face, searching for some kind of a joke. steve holds her gaze steady, but she can hear how his breathing has gone shaky. like he’s nervous. nervous? around her? that hurts a bit more than she wants to admit.

“so what you’re saying…is that the reason you’re rackin’ up late fees on the second indiana jones movie of all movies, is to stare at harrison ford’s tits?” robin’s smirking down at him and it makes his face burn even though he’s laughing in relief.

“you have zero room to judge me for my taste! the amount of times we have watched the breakfast club-“

“you never complained! now that i think, you were drooling over bender-“

their giggles die down and robin slips off the couch, landing herself right on top of him. steve groans as she knocks the wind out of him, earning another snort from her. she lays her head down on his chest, worming an arm underneath his back.

“so…boys too?” she says softly but it sounds so loud in the room. he hesitates, eyes trained on the ceiling.

“yeah…boys too…” steve ultimately says. it’s only when robin wipes her thumb on his cheek that he realizes he’s been crying. he chuckles dryly and grabs at her hand.

“thank you for telling me.” steve can hear the smile in her voice. she gives his hand a firm, reassuring squeeze. he returns it immediately.

“thank you for not making a big deal out of it.”

she hums in response before propping her chin up to look at him.

thinking about how josh always tries playing around WITH other teammates, but always interacts with diggs as if he is something extremely, extraordinarily precious to him. I'm not saying he doesn't care about everyone else, he cares about everyone, but when you're in love, the person you're in love with happens to cross your mind more times than a few.

Like. Josh throwing snow on Gabe Davis and not on stef (even tho he knows Gabe is very protective of his birkin !!) And just letting stef walk by snow-free while he and Gabe banter (in front of stef) (very important to note). Now, diggs was also wearing fancier things than Gabe in cost comparison. He had more than a birkin bag to protect.. Josh knows Stef loves living lavish, and his outfit was probably brand new bcs he also knows stef loves trying new things.. so Josh respects the boundaries that he knows and only plays around with Gabe, who's a little materialistic too but not as much as Stef.

Josh sees Stef coming, he stops talking to his teammates and does a little dance. He knows Stef finds his dancing funny, so he does some dancing!

Thinking about how they were paired during the pandemic, and had to bond literally over call of duty. Thinking about how Diggs was new to the game and how Josh never exploited him for it in the game, or complained about his skill level. Thinking about how Diggs recalls Josh always stopping to heal him as if the silly little call of duty game shenanigans were a honeymoon worthy of forever memory.

Stef keeps headbutting him in the middle of his pregame pep talk, instead of playing off that, Josh keeps his focus and doubles down on his leadership position by continuing his speech unphased. It's not ignoring, though, it's providing a stable foundation for Stef to bounce off of and keep him grounded. Stef's constant touches to allen during his speech let's him know he's doing good in what he's trying to accomplish: being inspiring while also being strong. Josh's strong composure let's Stef know that even with every headbutt, he's not budging, he'll always be right there for Stef to hold and remember who's there in his corner. There's someone stable in his corner, someone who isn't tired or intimidated by his energy, someone willing to observe the options and choose the best one without Stef having to even advise him on it

Although he's talking to everyone, he keeps his hand on STEF'S helmet to let him know He knows he's there, and He appreciates him being there. There's no joking about it. When stef pushes his way into the middle of the huddle just to be by Josh, it's not to hear how funny he can be or how serious, and while he can be either, it's just not the focus right now. The focus, the Need is simply to be By Josh.

And you don't get that kind of devotion from Diggs by playing around with his emotions, his wants, his needs. You don't get that kind of devotion by not being devoted yourself.

Josh Allen is 110% dedicated to loving his teammates, to loving football, and to loving Stefon Diggs.
