listened to an interview with david tennant today and he mentioned a fun fact about good omens I didn’t know about.. apparently when neil gaiman first wrote it as a short story, there was only one character. only when terry pratchett came in, he suggested they split the character into two - an angel and a demon.

so it completely makes sense they are two halves of one, two sides of the same coin. and I thought that was beautiful

OC question: what is Delclis's breakfast like? Does he eat alone or is he required to eat with other people? What kind of food and drink is for breakfast in Corege? Where does he eat? And of course, how does he feel about it?

Oh, good question!

What Delclis's breakfast is like depends on what point of his life you're talking about--before or after he becomes king.

He has not typically eaten alone at any time in his life. When he lived at Endean House with Elystan, he usually ate breakfast with his tutor Mr. Davell. They ate together and looked at the morning papers and talked about them (logic was one of Mr. Davell's special subjects, and he taught Delclis to look at the why behind events and opinion pieces--it was like a puzzle for them) before starting on the day's lessons. When Delclis's mother and stepfather came to visit, he would be expected to eat with them, which he enjoyed much less since both of them would always ask him awkward, intrusive questions (i.e. normal small talk).

Delclis and Elystan very seldom ate breakfast together, despite living in the same house, mostly since their schedules were completely different. Delclis usually slept like a log and got up early to tend his plants; Elystan's asthma frequently kept him up all night, so he wasn't often awake while Delclis was eating. Delclis was perfectly fine with this arrangement--Elystan...maybe not as much.

As king, Delclis typically eats breakfast with his secretary/whatever the correct title is for this sort of person, who fills him in on the day's schedule and what's required of him and all the paperwork he has to do and decisions he has to make. He's expected to multitask over breakfast--maybe answer some letters, read reports, etc.

Coregean breakfast foods are the ordinary ones: eggs, bacon, toast, fruit, etc. Depending on the occasion, they can be quite extravagant; if Delclis is entertaining guests, it'll probably be multi-course. If he's eating more informally, he prefers porridge, which is what he would have had when he was younger. He likes tea for breakfast too, although the longer he's king and the more frazzled he gets, the more he turns to coffee.

At Endean, he and Mr. Davell would eat their breakfast in the small dining room of the wing they lived in. Delclis would have preferred eating in the library where they did lessons and argued multiple times that it would be more efficient, but Mr. Davell was adamant about the importance of keeping food away from valuable books. At the palace, Delclis usually breakfasts in a private room in his suite, although on other occasions he might go elsewhere, such as the time his mother insists on their eating in a favorite room of his father's.

And how does he feel about it? Well, he used to love breakfast because he was a normal, healthy, hungry child ready to start another day of learning interesting things, and he really enjoyed the time with his beloved tutor. As king, he's less enthusiastic. Just one more chore to get through every day, especially because it has come to be associated with working. There's a whole short story about Delclis feeling things over breakfast (and generally being a jerk, mainly because he misses Mr. Davell, who isn't allowed to be around him as often, and his dog, who was recently killed), if you're interested.
