To no one’s surprise (except MC), Leona kept the little paper flower because he is a silly tsundere lion with a crush.
When someone shows you a smidgen of genuine kindness not based around your rank or holdings for the first time in your life -> Instantly Imprint Like A Fucking Angry Duckling

KACY
I know we've talked about it before but never in depth really so I wanna know -- I think at least for me there's THOSE TWO BIG MOMENTS right:
the one where we instantly and impossibly imprinted on our VC faves like lost little ducklings
and then whatever followed that cemented that love for all eternity like- "oh yeah this is it, I don't even need to see or talk to anyone else, we're good"
so what were your Marius Moments? 🥹
!!!!! oh wow what a question!
I know for sure without a doubt that when Marius DEBUTS in TVL is when I was DONE FOR. Like the slow burn leading up to it with Lestat trying to find him and then when he finally shows up he's this like nurturing, comforting force that is so gentle with him!!!!!!!!
Like idk how everyone else feels but my first time reading VC I was just going in cold, like there was fandom on LJ and stuff but I wasn't really lurking (bc spoilers lol) so I was just going into each book completely fresh and ready for an adventure, so I remember feeling like TVL was this MYSTERY to me the first time and I was just so excited to even see what it was about. But TVL (even to this day) really takes off for me when Armand shows up and then like, Armand already intrigued me so much and I was like WHAT WHO * MADE * THIS GUY OH MY GOD and I was just mega excited to meet him.
And as for the second question, I'm not sure I really have an answer! Coming out of TVL he was my favorite character so any time he showed up I was so excited to see him. Again, to this day I think I kinda rank my enjoyment of the VCs depending how much Marius is in them. 😂 But when I first read VC, Merrick was the most current book and it took me a couple years to read and catch up (with the Mayfair detour bc Merrick was supposed to be a crossover lol) so B&G was my first VC that I got to like go out and buy when it came out and it was like THE NEW BOOK MORE VAMPIRES! And just wow like how exciting that I caught up in time for a WHOLE BOOK about my fav. 🥹🥹🥹
But reading B&G maybe cemented it? tbh it was such a long time ago it's hard to say. It's just kinda always been there. Like this all happened when I was 12-13 and it was my first like deep dive into adult books and like coming from reading kids's series and YA it was so weighty to me and gave me so much to think about. But like I vivdly remember the first time I read B&G I was in my room and I kept putting it down to cry because it made me so emotional. Like getting to really get that deep dive into his POV and understand how lonely he was and how conflicted he was about his beliefs.
As a 13 year old I think I connected to it with my own point of reference that's evolved over the years; I revisit the entire series every few years and get different things out of it each time, not just from getting older but also just being more educated as time goes on. And sometimes I wonder if he'd be my fav if I read it for the first time at 25, or even if I'd been born at a different time; like would I have felt the same way if I was 13 but it was 2017 and Tumblr was in full swing with radfem rheotric poisoning the well? idk. But I do know that every time I feel the same way, I still love him just as much, even when I pick apart more flaws I just appreciate this character so deeply.
Like yknow to read VC as a 13 year old who is severely bullied you connect with it as being about "outsiders". The year B&G came out a bully put me in the hospital by bashing my head open on a locker. Teachers at my school thought I was going to be a school shooter because I was goth and I liked horror films. So it's comforting to see someone who is an outsider and struggles with Christofascism but who is surviving. And reading B&G and hearing how much he struggled was so like grounding for me. I'm not sure I can explain it now without it sounding trite (and maybe it was trite bc I was 13). And like him being a savior & mentor to Lestat was so comforting to me like I think at that age my biggest fantasy was that a vampire could come steal me away from my difficult life LOL. I wanted someone to come save me!!!!!!!!!
And then you know, growing up, being in an abusive relationship, having people around me die, trying to understand how I identify as queer, how I navigate my relationship to my own creativity and what it means to me, growing as a person and trying to be the most mindful and empathetic version of myself that I can be; all of this stuff is all over VC and in that book in particular.
It just means a lot to me man!
And I love that VC asks us to empathize with bad people, it asks us to forgive people, it asks us if we're are only our worst deed and if we deserve love even when we've fucked up. Lestat and Marius have so much in common so I think these themes just permeate both of their stories so much in every book, but. Idk for whatever reason Marius is the one that stuck out to me and I've never been able to shake it!!!!!

Jungkook: trophic level ¹
Tumblr media
He's a former idol, one of the people sheltered and saved from the inevitable collapse of humanity- probably thinking that his eye was some huge sacrifice he'd made to survive. Well, welcome to reality; where you can count yourself lucky if you only loose your eye, and nothing else.
Tags/Warnings: Zombie apocalypse, Violence, blood and descriptive gore, enemies to lovers, former idol!Jungkook, jungkook is half blind in this, near death experiences

Rain is nice.
It helps to cover tracks, distract the noise-sensitive undead from you a bit, let's nature heal around you. But right now, it's kindly working against you; hands slippery as you try and keep a good hold on the undead person's torso- keeping their snapping jaws from getting a taste of your flesh.
You're not easy prey.
At least you like to believe you're not- fighting back hard to at least try and get out of this. Your leg hurts, scratch from the wood that you'd fallen into burning with the dirt that's probably found it's way into the wound- but you can't concentrate on that.
Until suddenly, the sound of a metal pipe colliding with something is heard- harsh slam throwing the body off of you, before another hit is thrown; finalizing the Zombie's end with a hit to the head.
And when you look up at your savior, you instantly recognize him.
Jeon Jungkook no doubt, though one of his eyes seems now to be blinded and scarred. His face is still angelic as ever, skin and features of a former Idol, flawless almost- though his clothes are dirty, and damaged.
He holds a hand out, bandage wrapped around it.
You take it to get up onto your feet again, eyes instantly searching for your bag- one you eagerly take with a side glance towards him.
You don't trust him one bit.
You don't even know why he's now following you like a lost dog, as if he was a duckling imprinted on you. You don't like it at all- sure, he'd saved you, in a way, but that's no reason to stick to you like that.
But you let him, because for now, he's quiet and he's not holding you back. You almost trip, slipping on a wet stone- and he reaches out, a hand against your backpack, steadying you. You look back for a second, spotting his wide open eyes; He's handsome, even while scruffy like this- but that's normal, considering who he was in the past.
Does he think he still needs to uphold his image? Is he attempting to swoon you, so you'll protect him? What's his motive?
"This could be a good shelter-" He starts, but you walk straight past the abandoned truck, not even looking back to see if he walks after you. "..or not, I guess." He mumbles to himself, jogging to catch up to you, trying not to make too much noise. You're quiet, he's noticed- probably wary of him, which is understandable to him. He's a stranger, face disfigured, you probably think he's some creep who's trying to rob you in your sleep. He doesn't know yet how to gain your trust, but he knows he can't leave you alone like this.
Safety in numbers, or so they say.
"I- you should rest your leg-" he starts, as you turn around, making him take a step back in surprise.
"why are you following me?" you ask, and he swallows for a second, before he answers.
"I was taught to try and stick with other survivors." he explains. "we should stay together to have a better chance at surviving-" he offers, while you scoff, walking away.
"yeah no, thanks." you say grimly, almost slipping again as your leg gives out. "you go back to wherever you came from." you say, while he tries to keep up with you.
"why?" he asks. "you seem to hate me or something, what's wrong?" he wonders, attempting to ask something else, when you shake your head, walking further.
"I don't hate you. I could care less about you." you tell him, slipping yet again- this time, he catches you, hands securely steadying your back. "I just dont trust you." you mumble, thanking him under your breath however.
"I'm not with any groups." he says, letting go of you, though he stays close. "we should maybe see if we can get to one of the old shelters-" he tries, though you roll your eyes.
"what? You ready to go back home?" you joke without humor, and this time, he stops.
"you know who I was." he says with a dark tone.
You turn around. "Yeah I know who you are." you say, as if it's self-explanatory.
"was." he corrects.
"whatever." you say. "doesn't matter anyways. Its not like money is worth anything anymore anyways." you mumble, finally moving again as he continues to follow.
"it didn't help me years back either." he counters, though you're quick to conquer his words.
"it was enough to get you into a cozy shelter while the rest of us were thrown to the wolves." you say, turning around when there's silence from him.
"you won't believe me when I say I didn't know, so I won't even try and explain myself." he mumbles more or less to himself, as he now walks past you with a grim look on his face.
You dont know why, but suddenly, you feel a sour taste in your heart.
"are you following me now?" he asks as he looks back to see you behind him, his working eye twinkling with a bit of mischief.
"no." you say, making him chuckle a but at the obvious lie. "but I've been told that staying with other survivors increases the chances of survival." you say, and he smiles at that- letting you catch up to him.
"oh really?" he asks, making sure you're not falling behind again. "guess we will have go stick together then." he says, laughing a bit when you just grumpily hold onto his backpack as to not slip over the wet stones on the ground.
He already has a feeling that you'll be a good team.

For wild packs, Toto knowing Jos since he was a pup. They’re not friends but just acquaintances, but Toto hears about Jos’ son presenting as omega so he immediately asks to bring the young omega into his pack. Jos doesn’t think twice about it, he’s not interested in raising an omega child in his pack. Max having presented quite late too so he was a bit of an outcast already. He’s a shy little thing when he joins Toto’s pack but he gets integrates very well. Toto is super protective of him as well. And because I’m a sucker for 4433, what if Max and Lewis don’t get along super well at the beginning. They just manage to push each other’s buttons the wrong way, but they eventually realise that they both like each other. And Lewis is super proper about it, asking Toto’s permission to court Max, giving him flowers and food and it’s really sweet
Toto being familiar with Jos because they grew up in neighbouring packs. He isnt friends with the other Alpha, especially not when they both become pack alphas themselves and Toto disapproves quite a bit of the views Jos has of Omegas. Toto meets Max a few times as the youngster is growing up and is instinctively very certain the timid little thing will present as Omega even though Jos always boasts he will make a strong Alpha out of Max. Max presenting really late, maybe when he is 18 or 19 only and always thought that he would be analpha and stay with his dad's pack a while longer.
But he presents as Omega instead and Jos makes it very clear Max better find an alpha real soon because he isnt useful anymore. Toto instantly offers to take Max in and Max arrives barely two days later with a little backpack of belongings and nothing else.
Poor thing is clearly just touch deprived and imprints on Toto like he is a little duckling and not an young adult Omega skks. Max fits well into the pack, always snuggling up to Toto or cuddling in omega nests but he just doesnt quite vibe with Lewis. The two clashing for literal years before finally they realise they like each other lmaooo!
And plss ofcourse Lewis would be super proper and ask Toto for permission to court Max! And Toto is fine with it, but makes it very clear Max is still his too

okay but. how eddie had little nicknames for everyone. how much he loved being a DM, how devoted he was to the hellfire club. how he sacrificed his life for a group of people he just befriended the other day simply because they let him in, and in his final moments, told dustin with complete sincerity that he loved him.
let's talk about a boy whose father is a career criminal and presumably behind bars, who has spent his entire life afraid of traveling that same path while recklessly ambling ever-closer to it, who's been held back twice, who both bitterly resented and proudly owned the label of freak in equal measure.
now lets talk about how that boy came alive the moment he made a connection with someone. eddie was perhaps hungrier for love and belonging than any character I have ever known. that's really what it all came back to. radical by nature and an outcast by consequence, he instantly imprinted on the handful of people that cared about him like a goddamn baby duckling. he was wonderful. and he was loved.

OK let me rephrase that
Basically I wanted to know your opinions on the secondary characters that were big focuses from each show
Rebecca from Part 4
Ami From Part 5
And Sherlock Holmes from 6
Does that help clear things up?
Sorry for the time this took! I've had a lot of stuff going on lately.
Rebecca: I think she's a very fun and refreshing character, the fact that she's a thief and goes toe-to-toe with Lupin on some heists is really cool. It's nice to see a different method of thieving too. I like the fact that she's both an ally and an antagonist at the same time; she's friendly but she does pose challenges. Kind of like Fujiko but in a different way. On that topic, it's also refreshing to have another long-term female character other than Fujiko; because Fujiko's been The Woman of the series and this tends to be a restrictive role.
Ami: She deserved so much better from the writers. Her character had a lot of potential, even if she was very steeped in the emo hacker cliché; but that crush on Lupin was just... yikes. That was completely unnecessary and added literally nothing to the plot or to her character. She could have admired him like a big brother, or hell! like a father figure, that would have made a lot of sense with her character arc. Oh well. I guess it's up to fic writers to do her justice.
Sherlock Holmes: Eh. An interesting take on this character but he had way too much screentime. I really didn't like the first arc of Part 6 so I don't really have much to say on it or on Holmes himself.
Bonus that no one asked for:
Sebastian Moran: Do you have any idea how LOUD I yelled when he showed up? Sebastian Moran (BBC Sherlock MorMor fandom version) is the very reason I got into Lupin III in the first place. He's the reason I instantly imprinted on Jigen like a baby duckling. I told my best friend about it and her reaction was "Jigen and Moran in the same episode?? Your house is still standing? You didn't spontaneously combust?" Only good element of Part 6 arc 1 imo (that and Jigen Accidentally Adopts A Middle-Schooler).

OKAY FOLLOW UP QUESTION:
how do you bias? are you like an "imprint on my bias like a baby duckling" person? are you a "this bias was carefully thought out and chosen"? something else?
jeonghan and our offspring that he gave birth to.
i never thought about it honestly… I like happy funny sweeties so when they give off those vibes it’s like an invisible thread i am instantly pulled. Also i love a pretty face i can’t lie i think i have very peculiar taste but all of the people i like my friends are always like “ofc that’s such a teo pick” but 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t think about it too much i am honestly big on energy and lots of people just don’t sit right with me (and that stays consistent) (will not share the names but A Lot men and women i don’t discriminate when i’m being a hater) so yeah. Does this mean i imprint on them like a duckling? What about you please share with the class!

I wish the great Konrad Lorenz was still with us. He was an Austrian zoologist; the founder of a branch of biology dedicated to the study of animal behaviour, called Ethology. His work brought him a Nobel Prize, yet his books, or at least the one I read, are comprehensible (and delightful) to a scientific ignoramous like me.
One of his best known theories - which he called ‘imprinting’ was that newly born creatures are instantly attached to the first creature they see; which often was Lorenz himself. He often had a trail of ducklings or goslings waddling along behind him.
If I could meet him today I would demonstrate that I have taught my cat (Haggis … a ‘domesticus felinus’) to believe that he is physically stronger than me. Over a period of months I have given him the message that he is the stronger when we push against each other, and I feign defeat when we have our little wrestling matches. This has inculcated in him, a wonderful self-confidence and he views me with a generous, even magnanimous friendliness.
I am sure Mr Lorenz would have been interested.

“He was stubborn to the very end --- Though I can understand and respect wanting to face one’s end head on instead of wasting away on a deathbed. I still don’t know how or why his physical form stuck around long after he was technically rendered ‘dead’. Most other nations completely fade away after suffering a ‘true death’ but not him.
I suppose it doesn’t matter so much now. They may share the same body but Karl and Ludwig are two completely different people. How that came to be is another mystery in and of itself.”

(Part I) (Part II) (Part III) ---
Wen Ning spends ten minutes, or maybe ninety years, trying to make them all tea because difficult conversations (with feelings) always go better with tea, but he can't concentrate on anything other than the way it felt when Lan Zhan's fingers slid away from his head, the ultimate devastation on Wei Ying's face. First he forgets to turn the kettle on. Then he forgets to notice when the little electric button has clicked. Then he forgets to check if there's a tea Wei Ying will actually drink and then he realizes that he never put water in the kettle in the first place, and by then he's on the verge of tears. Curled in on himself in defeat, he sits down across from Wei Ying at the table. It puts him beside Lan Zhan, and Wen Ning instantly knows he's made the wrong choice-- now they look like a united front, against Wei Ying, when in reality they're--
But wasn't that what happened? Wen Ning has ruined his best friends' epic romance. He is the worst person in the entire world. That's probably not true, his therapist's voice says, in his head. Shut up, Wen Ning tells her. I deserve to feel awful about this.
Positive thought requires practice, pipes in Ten Habits Of Sustainable Self-Care. Shut UP! There's pressure on his wrist. Warm: Lan Zhan's fingers. Wen Ning opens his eyes and realizes he's got his fists pressed to his forehead, hunched over. He forces himself to drop them to his lap. There's probably red marks from his knuckles on his face. Lan Zhan is going to be so embarrassed he ever kissed him. What a thing to think, now. He's the worst.
He stares at Wei Ying's hands, fidgeting with each other and the woven string bracelet he wears, so he doesn't have to look either one of them in the eye. Lan Zhan's phone makes an appearance on the table. There's a corner of the phone case, over the power button, that's come up; Lan Zhan thumbs over it, and over it, and clicks at the app on the screen. "Wei Ying," he says, through the auto-toned female voice. The screech of the metal legs of Wei Ying's chair against the tile punches a hole in the heavy mood, leaving it to sink like yeasted bread-dough around their feet. "No," Wei Ying says. He stuffs his hands in his pockets. Through the pattern of cartoon sweetshop candies Wen Ning can see them bunched into fists. "I can't do this. I'm too-- I'm-- not right now. I'm going to go on a run, and then-- we can."
If shame were a river, Wen Ning would drown. (Lan Zhan had been wearing strawberry lip gloss. He can still taste it, artificial, sticking whenever parts his mouth.) The door slamming on Wei Ying's heels seems to take all the stuff in Wen Ning's body with it, scooping him hollow, just skin and a little bit of conscience to hate himself with. Lan Zhan sighs, perpetually-squared shoulders shorn into round misery. When he crosses back over to the couch Wen Ning follows him; as he'd thought he might, Lan Zhan tugs on the edge of Wen Ning's sleeve, and Wen Ning crawls gratefully into his lap.
It makes Wen Ning think about the first time Lan Zhan did this for him, back as freshmen in undergrad. They had been friends, by then, for months-- proper friends, not just Wen Ning trying to squash down all his jealousy and resentment that now Wei Ying wanted everything they did to include Lan Zhan, as well-- but they hadn't hugged; Lan Zhan didn't, and unlike some people Wen Ning wasn't going to drape himself all over someone without permission.
He doesn't remember what brought him knocking on the door to Wei Ying and Lan Zhan's dorm room, trailing his coat and backpack like a sorry lost duckling. Something about assignments and a burgeoning migraine and feeling like a war-monument-sized failure. The hitching little sob he gave when he saw Wei Ying was out must have communicated how desperately close to crumbling he was, because Lan Zhan put down his textbook and climbed up onto his lofted bed, patting the blanket beside him.
Wen Ning had been just achy and homesick enough not to question it. Lan Zhan had held him and rubbed his back and let Wen Ning stare blankly at the peeling-up corners of Wei Ying's posters until Wen Ning had felt like a person again and not a lump of phlegm in the throat of wider academia. Then he had fetched Wen Ning a glass of water and waited patiently while he drank it, all without saying a word. It had been the nicest Wen Ning had felt in a long time.
Now he tips his cheek against the softness of Lan Zhan's shirt (Lan Zhan's clothes are always softer than anything Wen Ning owns, even when he uses fabric softener). He feels Lan Zhan's chin settle on the top of his head, right over where every one of his baby pictures shows a cowlick. Lan Zhan smells like his body wash (coordinated with the rest of his toiletries, to both Wen Ning and Wei Ying’s amusement), a good clean soapy smell. Breathing it in makes Wen Ning feel calmer, no matter how often: it’s imprinted somewhere behind his ribs as a safe thing, a harbor for his soul.
The TV is still showing the frame they paused the movie on, the main character opening his mouth in comic blurry emotion. Wen Ning can relate, to that. Without Wei Ying, it's like his entire world stops, too. They both jump when Wei Ying comes back, the sound of his feet and harsh post-run panting cutting through the waiting hush that's fallen over the apartment. He is sweaty, flushed, picking his hair up off the back of his neck. Wen Ning hurts from wanting him, but more from wanting him to be okay. At least he looks less unraveled. He usually does, after he's worked out some of his endless frantic energy. "Okay," he says. Quieter than normal. “You were going to tell me things?”

What are some of your thoughts on nature vs nurture when it comes to the purple tiefling?
Now that I'm home from work and can think properly!!
Okay, let's look at what I'm gonna call the three "default traits" that all three of them have, because each of these traits manifests differently in all three of them, but just because Kingsley hasn't been shown enough, the analysis won't be in depth, because we'd just be getting into my personal headcanon for him. How the Mighty Nein are going to shape those traits in King remains to be seen, but we can already see they exist.
So the three key traits are passion, arrogance, and fast-talk.
In all three cases what they're passionate about is entirely built from their environment. Lucien is passionate about his ambitions and dreams of becoming something grander than his station. Molly is passionate about everything because circus folk are passionate people. Kingsley became INSTANTLY passionate about being a pirate, which tells me POINT-BLANK that the lingering reminder of Lucien's insane passion is just baby duck imprinting on the first thing that looks interesting. Molly and Kingsley don't immediately feel passionate towards some great goal or scheme because they're new souls who haven't had time to develop the all-consuming zeal Lucien's had going on between the Somnovem and whatever else occupied his mind before them, but the passion is there and without context, the other two are left to have it nurtured by whatever strikes their fancy in their immediate surroundings. The soul wants passion and they have the option to decide, immediately, what it is they're going to be passionate about. And they do!
The arrogance is, again, straight up pointed out by Kingsley- he remembered feeling regal and that was... mainly the trait he recalled most strongly. Once again, the arrogance manifests in different ways- Lucien has a clear superiority complex nurtured by his less than stellar childhood and how he's had to combat it; Molly's arrogance seems to be a... kinder interpretation of Lucien's superiority complex where the goal isn't so much "I'm superior to you" as it is "I have superior INSIGHT to you and it would serve you better and make you happier if you listen to me."; Kingsley's arrogance seems to be treated more playfully, and I think a lot of it is gonna end up "spoiled baby of the family" arrogance. The Nein wrapped Kingsley in love and immediately spoiled him and gave him room to bloom and made him feel special, but they're also the Nein and they'll gently humble him when they need to.
And finally- fast talk. Molly is a carnie. Molly bullshits like it's going out of style, because that's how he gets his coin and how he gets in and out of situations. Kingsley seems to talk quickly to throw people off- note that most of his reflexive fast talk is ALSO bullshit, but it comes from a different direction than Molly's. Kingsley bullshits like he absolutely knows everyone is going to call him on it, and he just thinks it's funny (see: the bit about wanting to be a pirate). Lucien, on the other hand, is just 100% theater all the time because he wants people to take him seriously as a credible and intelligent person. He's not talking fast and pretty for survival or for fun, he's doing it because he wants people to see him the way he thinks he ought to be seen.
And it's really easy to see how Molly and Kingsley's versions of those traits were nurtured. Had either of them been folded into horrible situations, you'd probably see traits that leaned closer to Lucien and skewed darker, but because Molly and Kingsley were both embraced immediately by a group who loved them during their formative duckling moments, those traits became positive, and if Lucien had had more positive formative experiences, those traits could be positive on his end too.

i really like the idea of luke having known, vaguely, that ben existed on the peripherals of his life, maybe even interacted with him a couple times as a kid but it’s even funnier if he’s only known ben for a few days and just instantly imprints on him like a duckling

Grid pack idea i am a little obssessed with:
Often when the rookies come in they imprint on someone older, making them a sorta parent for a while they get used to the f1 and everything about it. Just imagine like little penguins following their momma when they need help or advice!
Seb has got used to it since he does it the most, he's the grid mom! And he probably likes it, even when some are really tiring (like Charles' troublemaking). But he has trouble with Max sometimes since he seems very aggressive, especially when Seb had a bad race because of Max where they both crashed out
But Seb goes to apologise and Max is all aggressive and pushes him away which is very confusing and hurting since a lot of people go to Seb when they are hurting and now he cant help.
And maybe he talks to someone when Kimi just goes past and Max slots right into his side and starts purring when Kimi says something quiet to him which surprised everyone.
And then eventually Max comes to apologise to Seb and starts opening up :)
Just... the dynamic between Kimi and Max being just as soft as Seb, Charles and Mick but they show it different
Okay but rookies not being called rookies anymore and the older drivers just call them 'ducklings' or even 'duckies' jsjfsjsf.
Almost all the ducklings imprint on Omega momma seb cos he is just motherly and snuggly so most youngsters do that. Charles is his most chaotic duckling but here are a ton that want Omega momma Seb snuggles!
Seb kinda assumes Max is just another one of his ducklings because he does come to talk to Seb quite a lot. But Seb doesnt realise that Max is just shyly trying to befriend everyone and Kimi told him Seb was the least intimidatng sks
Max being angry and hissy after a race and snapping at Seb because he is overwhelmed and confused and Seb is getting too close. Seb being confused because he thinks this is his little duckling! But then he sees Max jogging over to Kimi and whining a bit and Kimi just hugs him and strokes his hair and Max just noses into him and instantly seems more calm. Seb realising Max imprinted on Kimi and just looks at them with a tender smile because Kimi is really sweet, although he looks a little confused lol. Pls just sweet overwhelmed Max nosing into Kimi and purring nervously but he knows Kimi will keep him safe from what is worrying him.

Patton knew individually both Virgil and Janus were very strong spirits, and he had learned over the past couple weeks that together they were.. well, chaotic, but surely
surely.
It wouldn’t be normal for them to do- well whatever they did, Patton could only guess as roman chased them, covered in a sparkly goop, and yelling a couple of nonsense phrases as well as what Patton could only make out as “undo it!”
He really hoped it wouldn’t be normal.
Patton pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing to himself, before taking pity on both poor Roman and the flooring which was ever so slowly being fully covered with the goop as well, he loudly coughed to get their attention, having the intended effect of having them all halt in there running, “did you two do this?” He asked in his practiced and patented dad voice, already pretty certain he knew the answer but still asking anyway.
Janus immediately piped up, taking the attention from Virgil who had actually not fully stopped and had kept slowly side-stepping away from roman “No!” He told him insistently, not wanting him or Virgil to get in trouble and have the invite of movie night be rescinded, it was the first time it was calm enough and no one was too busy for one, which meant it was his first movie night, he didn’t want to miss it! still despite his very best attempt it was very very, abundently clear to Patton that he was lying, which wasn’t as big a surprise as Janus wished it would be, after all, he was a very shifty character.
the effort made Patton make sure to be soft with his tone however before he was just about to reply Virgil spoke up to talk to Janus, “dee patt’s smart enough to know we did it- and even if he didn’t would you really wanna not take credit for the awesome prank?” He asked vaguely motioning to Roman who was halfway across the room from him now.
Janus pouted- actually pouted and Patton couldn’t help but silently chuckle to himself, thankfully unnoticed by all other parties, and once he had stopped pouting he just turned around to face patton and immediately looked down to fiddle with his sleeves as he quietly went “okay.. we did, ‘m sorry” he said, focusing his attention on Patton.
“You don’t need to apologize to me, Roman’s the one who’s affected and deserves an apology.” he told him, and speaking of Roman, “Roman when you’re ready the bathroom should be free why don’t you take a shower, it doesn’t appear that the goo was made with just a snap,” Roman sighed loudly before nodding and Patton smiled at him before turning his attention once again to the two chaos bringers “now, you two clean the mess from when he was chasing after you and later you’ll have to help me with movie night preparation, sound relatively Fair?”
Virgil, Janus, and Roman mumbled a chorus of yes’s, Romans more prominent as he was happy to get some retribution for their crimes. Patton nodded- mostly to himself, “good.”
It would be days before he ended up admitting to the two that he actually found the prank kind of funny, because by then Roman, while still acting offended by the pure mention of it, everyone could tell that it was purely lighthearted and he was in no way mad.
It would be only hours though until he admitted it was adorable and so very sweet how much Janus had latched and pretty much imprinted onto Virgil, following him around like a little duckling, (and when Virgil was truly busy Roman was a close second, however, it didn’t seem to save him.)
_______
“..Roman why are you sparkly?”
“I don’t wanna talk about it.” roman grumbled back.
Patton chuckled as he listened to the short-lived conversation of the two from the kitchen, Virgil and Janus had been helping him with prepping everything for the movie night but as making popcorn was the last thing they needed to do (and they and Roman had gotten banned from the kitchen because while one of them had tried to make pasta while waiting for the plain water to heat up it somehow caught on fire) so he let them go, to do what they wanted to do until everyone gathered for the movie.
After a bit he was finally done popping it so he then sifted popcorn into the two bowls, one for just melted butter and salt for Logan and Virgil and one bowl with sugar and melted butter for Roman and himself and maybe Remus if he joined them, and Janus was welcome to both as Patton hadn’t really been able to memorize his favorite yet.
He smiled as walked out, quickly setting the popcorn bowls down onto the coffee table, before happily sitting and leaning into Roman’s side, he hummed quietly to himself as he waited for Virgil to come back down before he noticed that Janus was just standing there, near the tv not really doing something, barely even moving.
He took worry-filled moment to take a breath before just going “hey dee? You wanna sit down kiddo?” And Patting the spot next to him, he didn’t want him to feel like the odd one out and feel too awkward to sit down, so he wanted to offer a clear invitation just incase, logan had said he occasionally needed that.
Janus glanced at Patton momentarily, before shaking his head insistently “no, waiting,” He explained, well it might’ve been explaining to him but it gave much more questions than answers, and honestly it was kind of scaring Patton especially as he immediately went back to staring at a specific spot, and a long while back Virgil had introduced him to what weeping angels were, so now he was scared to look away when his kiddos stared at either him or a very specific spot that didn’t ever vary for a prolonged time.
After a bit Virgil came down and sat right next to Logan, who had been silently reading a book against the armrest,
Then the moment Virgil sat down and everybody got situated- not even a second later, Janus ran full force at the couch and threw himself onto them, eliciting a variety of startled yelps and shrieks from them, and after a moment of him just happily using all of theirs legs as pillows as they remained completely stunned, Roman, Logan, and Paton just started to make noises of both bewilderment and dramatic alarm, however, the former was more of Romans doing, despite the only Part of Janus that was even touching him was his arms, extended like a stretching cat, though honestly despite the earlier prank Patton felt like if it had been anyone else and not Janus who had done that Roman would make much more fanfare about the throwing themself at them at all, Patton smiled to himself at the notion before grabbing the remote and stretching to hand it to Logan, absentmindedly starting to card his fingers through Janus’s hair.
Janus smiled contently as he got comfortable, happy with just being so close to his family.
_______
It had been maybe two and a half movies before Patton looked around, about to tell them another movie-based pun before he realized that They all had fallen fast asleep, Roman’s head lulled to the side and leaning on him much more than patton realized, Virgil cuddling Logan closely, and Janus holding patton’s arm captive, close to his chest, Patton barely suppressed an adoring coo with just how adorable the scene was before he realized that one of them wasn’t asleep, though he wasn’t that far away from it.
He looked over to focus more on Logan, who was trying so hard to watch the movie, blinking his eyes open after they started drooping more than three times in a single minute.
Patton smiled fondly before quietly going “lo, dear, you should go to sleep,”
Logan paused as he processed his words before he gave Patton a sheepish- and very groggy- smile, then he looked down to his lap, doing his best to avoid eye contact, and Patton realized a very important thing as Logan mumbled “‘mm don’ wanna move,” because while Virgil was very cuddly currently, Logan was equally cuddly, and he appeared very content to be so.
Patton chuckled softly as he understood, before going to shake his head lovingly, “lo-lo you don’t have to go upstairs to go to bed, you can just go to sleep in the cuddle pile with us, I was just saying if you're sleepy it’d be good to go to sleep.”
Logan made a small little “oh” sound, making it abundantly obvious even if it wasnt already that he was too tired to of even considered that, before grinning so brightly and so groggily and happily collapsing into Virgil’s chest.
And Patton couldn’t see exactly but he wouldn’t be surprised if Logan instantly fell asleep, he gave a small chuckle before doing his best to cover everybody with the blankets they had gradually grabbed and brought over to the couch to make sure no one got cold in the middle of the night.
After he was done he grabbed the remote from where Logan had put it and turned the tv off, soon continuing to card his fingers through Janus’s hair with his non-stolen hand.
And as Janus just melted even more at the contact Patton’s heart just melted once.
It didnt take long for patton to start getting drowsy now that he didnt have something to pay attention to and soon Janus and Patton started to Have incoherent conversations, Patton didn't even know if he had partially awoken or if it was just mid-sleep mumbles, but it didn't matter because he wasn’t even forming real or coherent words either, suddenly too tired to even realize it.
And not long after he could only yawn as he tried to keep his eyes open, before just collapsing against Roman’s shoulder and being the final one to quickly doze off.

(Since you sent 4 of those emojis I'm gonna go off but I'll stick to one in this answer and make seperate posts for the others aksnsns)
I can't give you anything Jonathan centric (that isn't Tommy/Jonathan, one of my fave rarepairs) but Jerome features in lots of my AUs.
This one is one of my faves that's entirely self-indulgent and if it ever gets written it's probably gonna be the longest fic I ever published (Again: If it ever gets written):
I gotta apologize in advance, it's just a fun little AU I haven't put too much thoughts into in terms of plotting so this is gonna be A. Long, B. Messy and C. A little chaotic
- First off, you gotta understand that @nsfwitchy2 Me had some fun with a pretty nonsensical and definitely not canon-compliant AU where Jerome and Jeremiah have three Mums (Tabby, Lee and Barbara, who all date) and live with them and Barbara Lee as their little sister.
- Ecco also lives with them, she sees herself as both the twins' gf more than a genuine part of the family tho (for now)
- (Meanwhile at Wayne Manor Alfred and Jim date and are very tired parents of Bruce and his clone 514A, in this AU - and pretty much every AU - nicknamed Brook)
- (Selina kinda goes back and forth between living at Wayne Manor or at Lee's place)
- Also, everyone dates. The twins. The clones. Eccomiah, Jecco, Batcat, Valeyne, Wayleska, they're all fucking
- Which isn't THAT important for this particular AU but I figured I'd give a warning xD
- This is mostly my attempt to give Tabitha some more backstory? Just...how I personally see her character and how I could see her end up if things would've went differently after S2
- The google docs file is called 'How Tabitha started being a Mum while disregarding canon completely' lmao
- Like her current life involves having 4 kids (if you count Selina) and two wives and that's a hell of an AU and I just like to overthink things and play with the way things would have needed to have gone in canon to have her 'end up' like this
- Also I can see her struggling with having a family all if a sudden (that isn't a manipulative brother or a weird cult)
-Especially if that involves Motherhood
- So on one hand it's a 'S2 until now' fic, explaining what happened to her in my canon
- But also - mostly because I find that easier to organize in my brain - it's interwoven with a 5+1-esque fic of all her children calling her 'Mum' (and her getting emotional over that)
- So it switches back and forth between the past and the present but for rambling's sake, I'll start with the past
- She still leaves Theo behind and flees with Silver but she keeps Silver close instead of immediately sending her away
- And her and Silver get taken in by Fish after they leave Theo because they have nowhere to go and Fish loves taking care of strays
- (Fish, who probably didn't end up in Indian Hill but rather lives in hiding until she is ready to strike against Penguin)
- She refers to herself as Liza's Mother in canon, you can't tell me she wouldn't instantly adopt Tabby and call her 'Honey' and give her motherly advice while Tabby tries to be all bite but actually enjoys somebody taking care of her for once
- Selina🤝Tabby
'Trying so very hard all the time to not show how soft and insecure they are'
- Actually, I'd start diverting from Canon even sooner aksnsjd
- Well not full on changing canon, but I'd...pepper in some stuff
- Like some scenes of her back with Theo and the Maniax
- Mostly her talking to Theo about Jerome's planned murder, which, yeah, she knows it's been set in stone from the beginning but that doesn't mean that she isn't talking about alternatives where he doesn't get killed off
- And Theo's like "Don't tell me you're going soft. No one will miss him. He was just a boy. Not worthy enough to be remembered."
- And later on she betrays him and goes 'I remember him'
- Anyway, they stay with Fish for a while but Tabby doesn't wanna keep Silver in Gotham
- So she sends her back to the school she went to before coming to Gotham with Theo (but makes sure their weird cult can't get their hands on her there)
- And Silver wants her to come with but Tabby says she has some unfinished business
- Aka she just doesn't wanna leave Barbara (who is in a coma atm, if Memory serves right)
- And Tabby's reasoning is that it's not safe in Gotham but really, she thinks she can't be responsible for another person
- "She needs a mother. A Family. I can't give her that." - "You are her family."
- So Silver's out of the picture and Tabby hangs with Fish until Barbara wakes up and they get together again (and never ever seperate)
- Also there's no Butch/Tabby because that was unnecessary as fuck
- And I gotta be honest, I haven't thought more about canon because Butch/Tabby alone makes my head hurt already but somehow they start dating Lee
- Who brings Jerome into the relationship because I sure am fond of Lee being Jerome's Mother (like as in, I have several wips with that concept alone not counting this one)
- Jerome probably came back to life after S3 and Lee fought to have him not be treated like a violent criminal but rather a child who was taken advantage of and after his release from Arkham (where she visited him and made sure he got some proper treatment) it seemed natural to have him live with her
- (But also he's still a criminal aksnsjs, you can see how much I thought about this)
- (Sue me for sticking to the heartfelt scenes and avoiding the mess that is plotting)
- Tabby and Barbara already had Selina and through Jerome, Jeremiah and Ecco were added et voila! Their Family is complete
- (Why exactly Barbara Lee exists if Tabby and Barbara have been non-stop dating since S2 I can't tell you, I simply think she is neat and I like the idea of big brother Jerome)
- (This AU? Self-indulgent? Why would you ever think that?)
- In the present however she is dealing with what is mostly referred to as 'feelings'
- Mostly panic at realizing that the bunch of weird children she's been living with are seeing her as some kind of parental figure
- Because suddenly they all call her 'Mum'
- Unsurprisingly the first one to call her Mum is Jerome at breakfast
- She's reading the newspaper and there's an article about a hostage situation the twins planned and he goes 'Mum, are you done with that? Can we see?'
- And they snatch it from her and argue about how they didn't even make the front page while Tabby nearly chokes on her coffee
- And of course she breaks down talks to her wives about it later while they get ready for bed because no one ever called her 'Mum' before
- Barbara's braiding her hair, while Lee's off to the side, getting ready for bed and it's very domestic and I am very gay
- But neither see it as a big deal because both of them have been called Mum before (by Jerome at least. Like. Immediately upon meeting them)
- So she's trying to be nonchalant about it because it's only a big deal if she makes it one
- While also not being able to deny the warm feeling that spreads throughout her body when Jerome keeps calling her 'Mum'
- Miah and Selina on the other hand are both hesitant to call anyone Mum
- Miah cause of Pride, Selina cause of her Mummy Issues
- But they both do at some point
- I think I have more notes on this SOMEWHERE but I kinda wanna have Miah call her Mum while he's ill (because we all know he'd be super fussy and want attention 24/7)
- So she humours him and while he's close to falling asleep - and she's totally not carding her fingers through his hair because she isn't soft or anything - he mumbles: "Thank you Mum" and she melts
- Selina would be more angsty
- Like, maybe it's her birthday and she disappears for a while (as she tends to do) but Tabby (who's closest to her) knows how hard this day is for her (since again her Mum isn't there with here and looks for her and brings her back home but doesn't make a big fuss out of her birthday
- Just...lets her be, gives her space but also lets her curl up close to her and maybe Selina doesn't call her Mum on that exact day
- But it's the day she realizes she wouldn't mind calling Tabitha her Mother, so she hesitantly tries it out a while later (maybe days, maybe weeks, however long it takes for her to feel comfortable with it) and they share a smile
- Then there's Barbara Lee, but she barely counts because she's a toddler and calls everyone 'Mummy'
- Even her father ajsnsnsn
- The last one would be Ecco because I have a very soft spot for Tabby and Ecco being close
- Ecco's rather formal with them for the longest time (she calls Barbara, Lee and Tabby 'Ma'am' for the most part because she may like them, but she doesn't think they see her as family. She's just the token girlfriend).
- So there's a scene where they connect, possibly over Tabby's hand and Ecco's head since I hc that Ecco gets headaches and migraines a lot (considering that she still gets shot in the head by Miah, like I said, this AU isn't necessarily the most bullet proof in terms of linear timelines)
- But so is Gotham so-
- So there's possibly a scene where Ecco's headache is getting super bad and no one's around (especially not Miah to dote on her) and Tabby awkwardly tries to bond by telling her about her hand and how she can't feel much (is a little clumsy with it) and Ecco immediately imprints on her like a duckling
- Maybe it's even the first time anyone reached out to Ecco in a way that feels genuine, especially without the twins or any of her (various) other partners being present so now she's willing to die for Tabby
- Which ends in her also calling her 'Mum' (while she keeps calling Lee and Barbara 'Ma'am' and Lee's so mad ajsnsjdj she was trying so hard to bond with this kid but couldn't quite get it right and you're telling her her socially pretty clumsy - but still wonderful of course - wife managed with just one conversation?? Slander
- And of course because I can't stop myself, there would be even more tidbits here and there of Tabby overcoming her previous way of living (as in, thinking caring or showing emotions is weakness) by having her reminisce a LOT about Theo
- For example by having Jerome climb into bed with her while Barbara's sleeping and Tabby is waiting for Lee to come home
- Lee works as a doc in the narrows which may be a little illegal, but the people didn't just stop needing help after her Queen of the Narrows arc was over, so I vote she keeps at it (and is held in very high regard for it by pretty much everyone)
- Tabby always stays up until everyone is home because she likes knowing where everyone is and that they're safe while Jerome has frequent nightmares and wanders around the house, so this isn't a rare occurrence
- And sometimes, they talk Theo
- "You miss him?" - "Don't know."
- "I wish he was still alive so I could kill him." - "....Me too." - "Which one?" - "...Both."
- (ajajsbssj this is all just copy pasted and cleaned up a lil', leave me and my pretentious way of writing dialogue alone)
- Tabby also has a lot of interludes where she thinks about what growing up with Theo was like/her childhood in general
- How she always protected him from other children bullying him and how they swore to have each other's back but how in hindsight, she was the one doing all the dirty work for him, helping him fulfill his dream and enact his revenge
- Realizing that he probably never cared for her, not like she cared for him
- There's also allusions to them having sex because you cannot tell me they did NOT have sex
- And it ends with Tabby realizing that she is quite happy with how she ended up, even if it's neither how she thought she would ever live nor what her old self would've even wanted, possibly seeing too many attachments as 'weak' judging by the way she canonly used Butch for convenience sake at first
- And yeah, maybe now she can provide the family - the Mother - somebody else desperately needs
- So she brings Silver home

i’m sure you’ve already talked about this, and if so then just ignore me! but if sm HAS to write a book about J/R then i wish she’d keep them platonic or in the brother/sister way that she tries to have imprinting also represent. bc right now the only representation for imprinting are romantic couples. (there’s no reason why sam had to of left leah). if imprinting has to be around, and if jacob has to imprint on R, then i’d like for their dynamic to be something new. tired of romance lol.
For real! I mean, there’s still the problem of the wolves having to give up their free will to be whatever their imprintee wants/needs (which just . . . instantly sets up a very unequal and unfair relationship whether it’s romantic or not) but it’s a lot better if there could at least be some variety involved.
I suppose, since we haven’t seen how Quil/Clarie and Jacob/Renesmee actually turn out, and the wolves don’t have any examples that we know of from history/legend either, it’s possible they’ll remain family/protectors and it never turns romantic. SM’s comments about Jacob/Nessie seem to imply it will end up romantic but let’s ignore that!!
She says she got the idea of imprinting from ducklings and Anne McCaffrey’s dragonriders series, where a human and dragon bond so deeply that if one dies the other basically can’t function. I read some of those books years ago but I don’t remember too much about the specific. But BOTH of her inspirations for imprinting are non-romantic. Which then makes you wonder why she went with a romantic route here. She said she wanted to explore that sort of ‘compulsory’ relationship but then doesn’t really get into it with much depth.
Maybe the imprints on children never become romantic; maybe imprints on contemporaries stay platonic if the imprintee is already involved romantically with someone else (he has to be what SHE wants/needs and maybe she’s already got a supportive, loving partner and so doesn’t want/need the wolf to be that). Maybe someone who lost a child is imprinted on, and what they want/need is . . . not a replacement son but you know someone to help them through it and do the things that a son might--help with chores, keep them company, etc. If there were examples of it not being romantic it would a) be more interesting!! Variety is good! and b) less problematic because there wouldn’t be the same implication that Quil and Jacob are going to be quasi-parental or at least influential adults in these girls’ developing years and then become romantic partners. There’s a whole lot about that that is unhealthy (grooming, the Westermarck effect, etc) about that situation--it would be better if they were not involved at all in raising these children.
The other thing that’s so very strange to me is that in BD, imprinting is framed as, in SM’s words “a glittery moment of fairy dust” that fixes things, like in a Midsummer Night’s Dream, where everyone ends up loving the “right” people. But the Leah/Sam/Emily imprinting fiasco very much did not make ANYTHING right. It blew everything up! It left Leah emotionally scarred, Emily physically scarred, Sam wracked with guilt and arguably it indirectly killed Harry Clearwater. Yikes! Why am I supposed to think this was a good thing, again?
