Reunited

Okay so this can be read as a part 2 to The end of our chapter, but also on it’s own. Feedback is always appreciated!

January 14th 2020

“So have the next article ready by next week, okay?” Susie took another sip of her coffee. “Yes, and about my latest one-“ Y/n started but was soon hushed by her boss. “No. Don’t live in the past. Carpe diem!” She said and turned on her heels, leaving y/n with a confused look on her face. But she only shook her head and went back to work. Y/n had last year managed to get a job as a writer for a famous magazine and she loved it, it was a good pay and she sometimes she had to travel to different countries to write, which of course only made her fall more in love with her work. She was currently writing an article about famous people’s influences on their fans and platforms and how that affects the younger generation. She chewed lightly on her pencil as she got stuck in her thoughts. Looking out over the city from her office she could see the snow falling from the sky, the small white flakes glistened in the bright sunlight. She saw the people on the streetsc, all the cars moving in a speed that left them looking like colored shadows. And then, just outside her building, a huge crowd of people. She wrinkled her brows at the sight, celebrities coming in for an interview always took the back entrance, so that this would not happen. Y/n got out of her office, ready to fo find somewhere to have lunch. As she made her way to the elevator she felt someone grab her arm, and by reflex she pulled it back. “Y/n!” Sienna whined. Y/n’a face softened at the sight of her coworker, but she felt her cheeks getting hot at her earlier behavior. “I’m so sorry Si!” Sienna shook her head, causing her light pink curls to cover the most part of her face. “Always so paranoid. Anyways-“ She started “There is a celebrity outside, and I know you don’t like crowds and stalking the people you stan and bla bla bla” Y/n rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. “But please will you come with me? I’ll buy you lunch” She pretended to think for a moment before she nodded her head. “Free lunch is something I cannot resist” Sienna laughed and dragged her into an elevator, pressing the button to send them to the lobby. “So who is it?” Y/n asked, meeting Siennas confused eyes. “The celebrity?” “Oh, I don’t know” She shrugged her shoulders. “But I’m still getting a picture just in case it’s someone cool” Y/n let out a laugh at the tall girl standing next to her. Sienna was one of the people in the office that she liked the most. She was easy to talk to, and always had the latest gossip about everyone and everything. Somehow she knew that Kylie Jenner was pregnant before the rumor even surfaced, and she was also the one who told everyone about Susie’s affair. Sienna really was the opposite of herself. An extrovert, an open book. The elevator soon reached its destination and they both stepped out into the lobby only to be met by a bunch of paparazzi and almost everyone from the photo department. “Holy shit who is this person? Obama?” Sienna said, as they made their way through the crowd to get outside. “Yeah, it sure looks like it” Y/n replied as she felt Sienna grab her hand. “Hold on tight darling” She smirked before starting to run through the masses, leaving traces of swearing people behind. “Sorry! I’m so sorry! Was that your foot? Oh christ” was some of the things falling out of y/n mouth as she followed her crazy friend. Suddenly Sienna stopped and y/n stood confused next to her. “What?” Sienna didn’t answer, instead she just lifted her hand and pointed to the tall brunette surrounded by a bunch of screaming girls. Shawn. It was the first time in over a year that she had seen him. His name still burned in her throat every time she said it. She knew that he was a big celebrity, but not that he was this big. Y/n stood frozen for a while, just trying to concentrate on breathing. But even that seemed like an impossible task at the moment. Suddenly the boy started moving, and he slowly made his way towards her. She tried to hide behind a tall dad in hope that he would not notice her. “Thank you honey” Shawn smiled to a girl as he handed her back her phone before hugging another. A familiar scent filled his nostrils and he stopped for a moment, looking out over the crowd.

His honey eyes met hers just for a second before she looked away again. His mouth opened slightly and it seemed like the world around them stopped. Y/n felt the anger pump throughout her body as he turned around, and made her way out of the crowd. Shawn quickly handed the girl her phone back before he ran after her. He could hear everyone yelling his name, and Jake swearing at him, but he didn’t care. Yelling a bunch of sorry’s and I really have to go’s he ran after her into the prestigious building. “Y/N!�� He yelled as he tried not to swear at the tens of paparazzis taking pictures of him. Suddenly she stopped, causing him to finally reach her. “Hey we-“ He started, but was soon interrupted by y/n who dragged him into a storage closet. When she turned on the lights he was finally able to take in her features again after so long. Her cheeks were crimson and her eyes glossy from anger. “Y/n I-“ “You what?” She spat out. Her voice was harsh and her tone was sarcastic. “Please tell me what the fuck you have to say Shawn” The anger in her voice took him by surprise and he was stunned for a moment. “What? Come on then” She said, crossing her arms over her chest and giving him a small nod. “I’m so sorry” was all he got out and she just snorted. “You’re pathetic” she mumbled as she went to unlock the door and walk out. “I’m pathetic? You’re the one that won’t even listen to me” he yelled through the room. Her frame froze and she slowly turned around to face him. “Because I know that everything that comes out of that mouth is fucking bullshit” she yelled back “I did what was best for the both of us!” “That’s the thing!” She screamed. “You never even asked me what I thought would be the best, no you just gave up like you always do. As soon as something doesn’t go exactly like you want it you just give up” Shawn looked down on the cement floor. He knew that the things she said was true, but he didn’t want to believe it. “I’m sorry okay? I don’t know what to do to prove it to you!” She shook her head as she sat down on a desk. “There is nothing you can do!” Tears were streaming down her face. “Don’t you get it?”

“You left me Shawn. I opened up to you and you left. Not only did you break my fucking heart into a billion pieces, you didn’t have the decency to even apologize. No, you uploaded a fucking picture on instagram instead” He looked at her where she was sitting. She was broken, and it killed him knowing that he was the reason to all her pain. Shawn tried his best to keep himself from crying. “I know. I fucked up, I fucked up big time. But y/n please” His voice was on the verge of breaking. “I need you, and you love me” “Loved. Past tense” She said, trying mostly to convince herself. “I stopped loving you when you left, and I’m not going to lie. I missed you. I missed you like hell” She looked up and connected her eyes with his. “Everyday I missed you. And I started thinking, blaming myself for the things you did. I told myself that I wasn’t good enough, pretty enough. That I wasn’t what you wanted” Small teardrops made their way down his face at her words. “You are perfect” he whispered and she only shook her head. “This isn’t fair” “I’m finally happy, I have finally moved on from you. I do not longer wake up in the middle of the night thinking about calling you because I saw something that reminded me of you” Shawn let out a soft sniffle. “Do you think it was easy for me?” “Not a day passes where I don’t think about you, hell you’re the only thing on my mind. I’ve tried anything to get rid of the pain, I’ve been drinking too much, sleeping with girls who I don’t give a fuck about. And I hate myself for letting you go, for causing you the kind of pain I would normally be there to support you through” He ran a tattooed hand through his hair. “But why did you leave then? If you didn’t want to hurt me, why do it the cruelest way possible?” She said, voice almost a whisper. His heart dropped at the question he knew was coming. “I was scared” he watched her roll her eyes at the lame excuse. “I was so fucking scared y/n. You are so fragile and I didn’t know what do. All I knew was that I never wanted to be the one to hurt you like that” She stood up and walked up to him. Their bodies so close to each other, but yet too far. Her lips ghosted over his ear, sending shivers down his spine. “But you still did. You hurt me more than anyone has ever done”

Shawn didn’t dare to even breathe.

“And it’s doesn’t matter how sorry you say you are, it’s too late” She whispered slowly backing away from him.

“It’s too fucking late”

Without thinking Shawn grabbed her wrist, stopping her from leaving the room. She looked at him with disgust as the tears flooded his cheeks.

He quickly turned her around, pressing her body against the cold wall, causing a whimper to escape her blood red lips. His eyes wandered over her face before they found hers. They were a shade darker than usually, and he could not tell if it was the anger or something else.

Slowly he leaned closer, their noses almost touching. She felt his hot breath on her forehead and her stomach could not help but turn at what would come next.

“So…” He started, his voice was raspy and low.

“You can honestly tell me that this is nothing you want anymore?”

Shawn leaned in just a little bit closer, enough for their lips to barely touch one another.

As she took in his features, she tried to resist the urge to press her lips against his perfectly pink ones.

“What’s it going to be, darling?” He said with a smirk. That damn smirk.

And with that she gave in and connecter her lips with his, and he tasted just like she’s imagined.

Because sometimes, no matter how hard you try to hide them, suppress them, and suffocate them. Some feelings never fade.

Support for authoritarian ideas in America is closely tied to the countrys long-running racial conflicts.

This chart, from a September 2020 paper by Vanderbilt professor Larry Bartels, shows a statistical analysis of a survey of Republican voters, analyzing the link between respondents score on a measure of ethnic antagonism and their support for four anti-democratic statements .

The graphic shows a clear finding: The higher a voter scores on the ethnic antagonism scale, the more likely they are tosupport anti-democratic ideas. This held true even when Bartels used regression analyses to compare racial attitudes to other predictors, like support for Trump. The strongest predictor by far of these antidemocratic attitudes is ethnic antagonism, he writes.

For students of American history, this shouldnt be a surprise.

I cannot even wrap my mind around any reason they would be good for this country.

Similarly, a 53-year-old Republican from Virginia said, I honestly cannot even pretend to be a Democrat and try to come up with anything positive at all, but, I guess they would vote Democrat because they are illegal immigrants and they are promised many benefits to voting for that party. Also, just to follow what others are doing. And third would be just because they hate Trump so much. The picture she paints of the typical Democratic voter being an immigrant, who goes along with their party or simply hates Trump will seem like a strange caricature to most Democratic voters. But her answer seems to lack the animus of many.

Democrats struggled just as much as Republicans. A 33-year-old woman from California told said, i really am going to have a hard time doing this but then offered that Republicans are morally right as in values, going to protect us from terrorest and immigrants, going to create jobs.

Reality Check 3: The Democrats Legislative Fix Will Never Happenand Doesnt Even Touch The Real Threats

Its understandable why Democrats have ascribed a life-or-death quality to S. 1, the For the People bill that would impose a wide range of requirements on state voting procedures. The dozensor hundredsof provisions enacted by Republican state legislatures and governors represent a determination to ensure that the GOP thumb will be on the scale at every step of the voting process. The proposed law would roll that back on a national level by imposing a raft of requirements on statesno excuse absentee voting, more days and hours to votebut would also include public financing of campaigns, independent redistricting commissions and compulsory release of presidential candidates’ tax returns.

There are all sorts of Constitutional questions posed by these ideas. But theres a more fundamental issue here: The Constitutional clause on which the Democrats are relyingArticle I, Section 4, Clause 1gives Congress significant power over Congressional elections, but none over elections for state offices or the choosing of Presidential electors.

Vaccine Advocacy From Hannity And Mcconnell Gets The Media Off Republicans’ Backs But Won’t Shift Public Sentiment

Amid a rising media furor over the steady stream of vaccine disparagement from GOP politicians and Fox News talking heads, a number of prominent Republicans spoke up in favor of vaccines early this week.

On Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters, “shots need to get in everybody’s arm as rapidly as possible” and asked that people “ignore all of these other voices that are giving demonstrably bad advice.” House Minority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, got the vaccine after months of delay and then publicly said, “there shouldn’t be any hesitancy over whether or not it’s safe and effective.” And Fox News host Sean Hannity, in a widely shared video, declared, it “absolutely makes sense for many Americans to get vaccinated.” This was treated in the press as an unequivocal endorsement, even though the use of the word “many” was clearly meant to let the Fox News viewers feel like he’s talking about other people getting vaccinated.

Is this an exciting pivot among the GOP elites? Are they abandoning the sociopathic strategy of sabotaging President Joe Biden’s anti-pandemic plan by encouraging their own followers to get sick? Are the millions of Republicans who keep telling pollsters they will never get that Democrat shot going to change their minds now?

Jeffersonian democracy was not a one-man operation. It was a large political party with many local and state leaders and various factions, and they did not always agree with Jefferson or with each other.

Jefferson was accused of inconsistencies by his opponents. The “Old Republicans” said that he abandoned the Principles of 1798. He believed the national security concerns were so urgent that it was necessary to purchase Louisiana without waiting for a Constitutional amendment. He enlarged federal power through the intrusively-enforced . He idealized the “yeoman farmer” despite being himself a gentleman plantation owner. The disparities between Jefferson’s philosophy and practice have been noted by numerous historians. Staaloff proposed that it was due to his being a proto-; claimed that it was a manifestation of pure hypocrisy, or “pliability of principle”; and Bailyn asserts it simply represented a contradiction with Jefferson, that he was “simultaneously a radical utopian idealist and a hardheaded, adroit, at times cunning politician”. However, Jenkinson argued that Jefferson’s personal failings ought not to influence present day thinkers to disregard Jeffersonian ideals.

, a European nobleman who opposed democracy, argues that “Jeffersonian democracy” is a misnomer because Jefferson was not a democrat, but in fact believed in rule by an elite: “Jefferson actually was an Agrarian Romantic who dreamt of a republic governed by an elite of character and intellect”.

Reality Check #4: The Electoral College And The Senate Are Profoundly Undemocraticand Were Stuck With Them

Because the Constitution set up a state-by-state system for picking presidents, the massive Democratic majorities we now see in California and New York often mislead us about the partys national electoral prospects. In 2016, Hillary Clintons 3-million-vote plurality came entirely from California. In 2020, Bidens 7-million-vote edge came entirely from California and New York. These are largely what election experts call wasted votesDemocratic votes that dont, ultimately, help the Democrat to win. That imbalance explains why Trump won the Electoral College in 2016 and came within a handful of votes in three states from doing the same last November, despite his decisive popular-vote losses.

The response from aggrieved Democrats? Abolish the Electoral College! In practice, theyd need to get two-thirds of the House and Senate, and three-fourths of the state legislatures, to ditch the process that gives Republicans their only plausible chance these days to win the White House. Shortly after the 2016 election, Gallup found that Republican support for abolishing the electoral college had dropped to 19 percent. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, a state-by-state scheme to effectively abolish the Electoral College without changing the Constitution, hasnt seen support from a single red or purple state.

History Of The Democratic And Republican Parties

The Democratic Party traces its origins to the anti-federalist factions around the time of Americas independence from British rule. These factions were organized into the Democrat Republican party by Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and other influential opponents of the Federalists in 1792.

The Republican party is the younger of the two parties. Founded in 1854 by anti-slavery expansion activists and modernizers, the Republican Party rose to prominence with the election of Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican president. The party presided over the American Civil War and Reconstruction and was harried by internal factions and scandals towards the end of the 19th century.

Since the division of the Republican Party in the election of 1912, the Democratic party has consistently positioned itself to the left of the Republican Party in economic as well as social matters. The economically left-leaning activist philosophy of Franklin D. Roosevelt, which has strongly influenced American liberalism, has shaped much of the party’s economic agenda since 1932. Roosevelt’s New Deal coalition usually controlled the national government until 1964.

The Republican Party today supports a pro-business platform, with foundations in economic libertarianism, and fiscal and social conservatism.

Adams And The Revolution Of 1800

Shortly after Adams took office, he dispatched a group of envoys to seek peaceful relations with France, which had begun attacking American shipping after the ratification of the Jay Treaty. The failure of talks, and the French demand for bribes in what became known as the XYZ Affair, outraged the American public and led to the Quasi-War, an undeclared naval war between France and the United States. The Federalist-controlled Congress passed measures to expand the army and navy and also pushed through the Alien and Sedition Acts. The Alien and Sedition Acts restricted speech that was critical of the government, while also implementing stricter naturalization requirements. Numerous journalists and other individuals aligned with the Democratic-Republicans were prosecuted under the Sedition Act, sparking a backlash against the Federalists. Meanwhile, Jefferson and Madison drafted the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions, which held that state legislatures could determine the constitutionality of federal laws.

The Democratic Partys shocking emergence can be linked to the countrys anti-federalist factions. It was during that time the United States of America gained independence from British colonial masters.

The anti-federalist factions, which democrats originated from, were also grouped into the Democrat-Republican party. This was done in 1792 by James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and other federalists influential opponents.

On the other hand, the Republican Party is pretty much younger than the Democratic Party. It was formed in 1854 by anti-slavery modernizers and activists.

The republicans were against the expansion of slavery in Western territories. They fought hard to protect African Americans rights after the civil war.

The Republican Party is often known as GOP. The meaning is Grand Old Party. The first Republican President was Abraham Lincoln. From Lincolns emergence, Republican Party started gaining ground in America.

These findings still have some loopholes in them, of course. For instance, the data was collected over the last 40 years or so. Moreover, it is only based on the most recently collected information. As you know, demographics are constantly changing. These figures may have been affected as well. There is also a margin of error with every type of data collection like this. So, what do you think? The fact that he owned over 600 enslaved people during his life while forcefully advocating for human freedom and equality made Jefferson one of Americas most problematic and paradoxical heroes.

Thomas Jefferson, , draftsman of the Declaration of Independence of the United States and the nations first secretary of state and second vice president and, as the third president , the statesman responsible for the Louisiana Purchase. An early advocate of total separation of church and state, he also was the founder and architect of the University of Virginia and the most eloquent American proponent of individual freedom as the core meaning of the American Revolution.

What Republican And Democrats Believe

Lets start with this example. There are one or more reasons why you chose that person to be your friend. It could be because of how he or she talks, sense of humor, intelligence, educational background, ideology, or other factors.

The bottom line is you made the individual your friend because of one or more factors you discovered in that person that pleases you. This explains why most people would prefer joining republicans than Democrats and vice versa.

Republicans and Democrats have diverse ideologies and beliefs. These beliefs or ideology is part of what draws people to join either political party.

Lets start with Republicans. What do Republicans believe in?

Republicans boast libertarian and centrist factions. But they primarily believe in social conservative policies. They abide by laws that help conserve their traditional values. These include opposition to abortion, marijuana use, and same-sex marriage.

So the Republican Partys platform is generally centered on American conservatism. It comprises establishment conservatives, Freedom Caucus, or Tea Party members, described as right-wing, populist, and far-right.

The Republican Partys position has changed over time. They now transcend beyond traditional values, which often includes Christian background. The Republicans evolved position now includes fiscal conservatism and foreign policy.

Was The Donkey Originally A Jackass

Thomas Nast was an American cartoonist who joined the staff of Harpers Weekly in 1862. Nasts cartoons were very popular and his depiction of Santa Claus is still the most widely used version of the holiday icon we see today. During his career, Nast also drew many political cartoons that harshly criticized the policies of both parties.

Nast first used a donkey to represent the Democratic party as a whole in the 1870 cartoon A Live Jack-Ass Kicking a Lion in which Nast criticized the dominantly Democratic Southern newspaper industry as the Copperhead Press. While he did popularize the donkey, Nast wasnt the first person to use it in reference to the Democrats.

Over 40 years earlier during the presidential campaign of 1828, opponents of Democrat Andrew Jackson referred to him as a jackass. Jackson actually embraced the insult and used donkeys on several campaign posters. Nevertheless, cartoonist Anthony Imbert would use a Jackson-headed donkey to mock Jackson an 1833 political cartoon.

However, the donkey never really caught on after the end of Jacksons presidency, and Thomas Nast apparently had no knowledge that it ever was used to represent the Democrats.

Election Of 1796 And Vice Presidency

In the presidential campaign of 1796, Jefferson lost the electoral college vote to Federalist John Adams by 7168 and was thus elected vice president. As presiding officer of the Senate, he assumed a more passive role than his predecessor John Adams. He allowed the Senate to freely conduct debates and confined his participation to procedural issues, which he called an “honorable and easy” role. Jefferson had previously studied parliamentary law and procedure for 40 years, making him unusually well qualified to serve as presiding officer. In 1800, he published his assembled notes on Senate procedure as . Jefferson would cast only three in the Senate.

During the Adams presidency, the Federalists rebuilt the military, levied new taxes, and enacted the . Jefferson believed that these laws were intended to suppress Democratic-Republicans, rather than prosecute enemy aliens, and considered them unconstitutional. To rally opposition, he and James Madison anonymously wrote the , declaring that the federal government had no right to exercise powers not specifically delegated to it by the states. The resolutions followed the “” approach of Madison, in which states may shield their citizens from federal laws that they deem unconstitutional. Jefferson advocated , allowing states to invalidate federal laws altogether. Jefferson warned that, “unless arrested at the threshold”, the Alien and Sedition Acts would “necessarily drive these states into revolution and blood”.

How Do You Write Like You're Running Out of Time: Hamilton and Me

I. Just You Wait

Hamilton was alright. Not the best opener is it? I’m not referring to the show, I meant the opener to this verbose verbal vomit. The musical was typical fare, all things considered. Lin Manuel Miranda is the farthest thing from a good singer. I believe anyone singing his praises should take a listen to his rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar’s Gethsamane. Talk about taking your shot… to the gut.

It still kinda baffles me how a show so unexpectedly and unremarkably unprovocative found such a huge cult following; the likes of which the musical world has yet to match since. Overlooking the novelty of a Founding Father finessing like the Fresh Prince, the musical fits the mold of presenting the concepts of rap and immigrants for the first time to the aristocratic white people (y’know the ones, they probably called it “hippity-hop” and are currently collecting their stimulus check amid the pandemic) who could actually afford it.

There’s a lot to be said when it comes to meta-textual analysis. Contrary to the marketing’s emphasis on “The Room Where It Happened” seemingly depicting a story meant to peek behind the curtain of politics, the eponymous song actually does present a better alternative to House of Bars (alternative jokes include: The West Side, Bars & Recreation, and The Fire).

II. The Room Where It Happens

There’s an element of mysticism that surrounds the number ‘The Room Where It Happens” thanks to the inconsistently charismatic narrator of the show: Aaron Burr (Sir--). With only the three gentlemen involved with that day’s events being in that room, much of the going-on’s details are shrouded in mystery. No servers, no stenographers, spies, nor sluts, to witness history in the making. It’s any wonder how history gets recorded at all! Question of the hour...

Hamilton’s downfall in the play, all leading up to his descent into the proverbial ‘Hurricane,’ would not be as impactful if not for his most precious desire. We’ve seen it first-hand, all politicians need to do during a scandal is to “talk less, smile more.” Although... $130,000 in hush money excluded from your tax returns should do the trick-- [President Obama complete remarks at 2015 White House Correspondents' Dinner (C-SPAN) 16:48 - 16:59] No, not if you want to protect your legacy.

III. Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story?

There are many perspectives on the subject of how one lives on well past their time on Earth, and Hamilton has its fair share. Aaron Burr references a fallen colleague of his being given a street named after him and how it makes his “legacy secure.” Making idols, commemorations, names on a parchment, the epitome of memorability. You may be gone, but your name remains physically engraved on plaques and local parks.

At first, it seemed like Alexander also subscribed to a similar outlook. By imprinting himself on literature, legislature, and ladies, he found a way to almost literally leave his mark on everything he’s had his hands on. Hell, the show left out the relevant factoid that his 2nd freaking son was his junior. He’d rather die than let the Hamilton name Burr away, and that’s exactly what he did.

That being said, it doesn’t take a keen eye to realize that the self-destructive behavior these men exhibit isn’t exemplary by any means. The play depicts the consequences of the paths these men take. Burr ends up being painted as an apolitical squirrel, Alexander a self-indulgent tomcat. While their legacies remain, they’re tarnished by shame. If these great men still strived and struggled to cement their legacies, then what chance do we have?

Many of us, if not most, will barely be but a footnote in history. We can’t all be president, the same book can’t be written twice, there is no solitary thought that has yet to be thought of. However, even with all this in mind, it never stops us from trying, does it?

We still attempt to paint like Gogh, write like Tolkien, or waste human space like 6ix9ine (this was written in July of 2020 and it was dated then too), for life has little meaning or value without purpose; that’s exactly what’s been on my mind: Who will tell my story if I have nothing to leave behind?

IV. Palaces Out of Paragraphs

How do others do it? How do they just snap their fingers and… well-- do? Do what, you ask? Nothing in particular, it is the act of doing that I refer to. With hustle culture being the trend, many people like me have found that making the most out of their existence is a more daunting task than it’s cracked up to be. When others are so good at doing, are you doing nothing in comparison?

I’m not one to judge others so I’ll only be doing so for myself: I believe I have not been doing anything productive with the time I’ve been given. Every waking moment of mine has been spent either attempting to maximize my time and energy to do something worthwhile or bereaving on the lack of my drive to execute. This, however, is obviously an uphill battle for me.

When everything , your mind, your body, and even yourself, are against you, the last tool in the arsenal of human perseverance is the ability to do what one wills. The phrase shouldn’t be “if there’s a will there’s a way,” for many of us have found ourselves in no-win scenarios. Instead the phrase should be “if there’s a will, there’s a way out.” And there is a way out of the rut that is dissatisfaction.

Most conflict within one’s self is the disconnect between our ideal self, who we want to be, and our actual self, who we currently are. One may find themselves longing to become a strong-willed scribbler of scripts like Hamilton, it takes no more than a glance at your reflection to see that, when the rose tint decays, you’re a sniveling Burr. This is where the pain stems from, my pain.

Ambition and reality will always be at odds with one another. When one desires to leap over skyscrapers, actuality reminds you that you can barely skip over an anthill. That’s kind of what has been bothering me. For years I’ve seen those capable of what I could only dream of doing, and that has always bothered me. Not my pride, but my sense of who I really am.

I desire to leave a legacy that depicts me as larger than my life, what I leave behind being greater than what I have done; a kingdom left prospering after my reign. My lofty aspirations extend to being renowned, and contract to being remembered fondly. But the sad reality for I, and many others like me, presents itself: we can’t all make leaps and bounds that impress, most people aren’t so easily enamored.

Not having this in mind has resulted in my complete inability to create and finalize. For a person with each of their toes dipped into a different pool of expertise, I can barely muster up the strength to continue to submerge, much less immerse, myself into any of them. Looking into the dark Mariana Trench of inadequacy one sees as their skillset will induce aquaphobia in many.

Beyond all pretension and rhetoric, my issue is this: I can’t make anything because I fear I will make nothing worth making. This is already the 5th rewrite of this maligned monotribe, that in and of itself exemplifies how I’m not quite past that hurdle. That being said, I’m looking forward to and deciding on taking steps to amend that.

V. Taking Back The Narrative

This text marks the beginning of another attempt at reinvention. With limit tests spanning over the course of two years, involving stressing the definitions of human minimums and maximums, I am content with commencing continued coercion with my consciousness (translation: I’m letting the process of improving continue despite my fear of the absence of such). I took back to writing once more because I needed something to stare at that convinced me I’m capable of the things I want to do, but also that there’s no rushing or forcing things.

It is honestly kinda silly how someone like me, who has made it their life goal to show that passion and wit is enough to get someone through the typical things in life like work, school, and relationships, had to be reminded of that very mission.

I’m not blessed with any genius in particular, and I’m not nerdy Casey Neistat who runs at the speed they can create meaningful and worthwhile content. Holding myself to higher standards was supposed to be a healthy way of preventing stagnation, not a destructive process to kill my motivation.

After going through the Hurricane of my own inner turmoil, realizing that being ‘Lucky to be Alive Right Now’ doesn’t have to come with survivor’s guilt, and that there is no such thing as ‘Running Out of Time,’ for all time cannot be wasted, I’m once again going back into the swing of things. Just like my last relaunches, all beginning with varying degrees of premature declarations, I’ll be doing the same right now.
