like yes yes eddie needs to choose and buck needs to be chosen but also
Eddie needs to get over the very big trauma of losing his wife. Last time he dated someone he had literal panic attacks at the thought of her being mistaken for Chris’s mother and as much as we saw him work through in therapy we never?? really?? talked?? about?? that?? So, yeah, Eddie needs to realize that he’s at a point where he’s ready to risk his heart and give love a second chance
(and maybe realize he already did becase there already is a partner in his life who gets consistently confused for Chris’s guardian and it feels natural to him?? but he still needs to realize he’s ready for love)
And Buck needs to be ready to be in a relationship where he’s loved for who he is, where he doesn’t bend and twist to fit someone else’s expectations. And for that Buck needed to die, and needed to come back, and now he needs to process that trauma and steady himself.
(and Buck loves so quickly, so openly, so loudly, and he gives so much of himself and he wants to be loved that way, and maybe he’ll realize that he already?? is?? loved?? but he needs to let himself accept it)
so basically, it’s not only a matter of choice... eddie needs to be ready to love and buck needs to accept that he is loved if they are ever going to find each other properly together
and that, my funny little friends, is the point of their arcs were we are at right now

making more progress on alive shannon yaaay! this fic is gonna be such a mix of angst and fluff, and I hope i'll get the angst part right bc I'm not good at it, and so far a lot of after-accident stuff is turning out too cute lol (gonna fix it soon with the bombing lol)
here's a lil buddie moment finally haha (they're not in love here yet but obvi there's always been something - and it's so hard to write them not in love and pining bc in my fics they're always in love already haha)

___
“So, it’s weird, isn’t it?” he asks, then takes a huge gulp of his beer.
“What is?” Buck asks carefully, grabbing the second bottle and opening it.
“This whole thing.” Eddie shrugs. “Shan being here. Was it weird?” he nods towards the living room, indicating Buck hanging out with her before Eddie came home. Buck thinks for a moment, not really sure how to answer.
“I mean, I guess a little bit? Not as much as I expected, we just watched TV.” It’s Buck’s turn to shrug. “It was fine. It is fine. A little awkward, but we literally just met, so hopefully that changes. Since, you know, she’s here to stay, and I’m- I’m, uh- I guess I’m here often enough, so I don’t want it to be awkward and stuff-” he stumbles over his words, suddenly not sure why it’s even important for him and her to get along. It would be so easy for them to just not see each other. It’s not like Eddie and Shannon are gonna hang out all the time now, after she’s better and gets back to her own life. All that’s gonna connect them after the divorce is Chris. So, really, Buck has no reason to want to get along with her beyond her staying here for now. They don’t have to be friends, and if it’s weird for a couple weeks, so what?
“Buck.” Eddie interrupts his rambling, his eyes softening. “I know what you mean. I- I kinda hoped you guys would get along, is that stupid?” he chuckles. And, well, it’s settled now, Buck has to make friends with her, doesn’t he? “Since you’re, you know, Christopher’s best friend.” he adds with amusement, and Buck beams. But then Eddie sighs and shakes his head. “And he’s so happy to have her around.”
“I noticed.” Buck smiles.
“Yeah. He loves being able to just go into another room and hug her, talk to her, have her help him with his homework, play games with him. Just have a relationship with her again. He’s actually-” he laughs. “He’s teaching her to play his favorite video games, and she sucks at it. So bad. He’s determined, though.” Eddie gets that look on his face he always gets when talking about Chris, so much love and fondness and adoration. It might be one of Buck’s favorite expressions of his. Not that he has any favorites, of course, that’d be weird. He’s not analyzing his best friend’s face and looks and smiles, and he’s definitely not making sure to remember every single one, mentally filing them carefully in the rapidly growing drawer with Eddie’s name on it in his mind.

I don’t necessarily know how I would want this to go - or even if I want it to happen, but I do wonder if 9-1-1 is going to address the fact that biphobia exists and how often biphobia is related to the idea that bisexuals ‘can’t pick a side’ or the fact that bisexuals are often indirectly just slut shamed.
I am bisexual, and those comments definitely exist and can be said unthinkingly. And often they are said as a passing joke but for the person they do hit and it’s not fun.
With Buck now officially starting his discovery of his sexuality - it would be a good time to open up that narrative.
It’s not like I’ll be angry if they steer clear of that because if Buck can have a smooth coming out and self discovery then I’m absolutely down for that - and I love that for him and the show. But I just feel it could be addressed if they felt like adding a bit of angst. And it’s been in my head all day as a thing that could happen.

okay okay so watching baby daddy and umm the way riley tells danny she loves him?? like he's supposedly unconscious after an accident and she doesn't think he can hear her finally admitting it?
yeah so anyways eddie coming to the realisation that he's in love with buck and actually telling him whilst he's in his coma except buck's just woken up and hears every damn word. that. i want that.

honestly still feral about that post wondering how many times eddie thought of telling buck he made him chris’ legal guardian in the year following the well almost-disaster. because the sole image of eddie holding back (in the name of shame? fear? desperation?) claws at my insides but. but. i wouldn’t rule out the possibility of eddie never allowing himself to even think about the will. going on with his days vaguely aware that he’s secured a future for his kid in the warmest and safest of places - buck’s arms - but never stopping for a moment to feel anything more about it. never shame and definitely never fear. a safe heaven where chris and buck have a serene future without him, where he’s dead but death eventually happens to everyone so it’s okay, a sub-reality where everything is organic and none of the things he’s decided to do with his heart has to be analyzed or questioned. not even by eddie himself.
and isn’t that equally telling about his motives? this fierce protection - even from himself - of the most precious thing he has?
