while i love how both versions portrayed hisoka's true bloodlust finally shining through, 1999's portrayal strikes me as much more visceral.

gon, the brave and quick-witted kid that we've been following throughout the exams, is faced with mortal fear for the first time during the exam. and for once, he is scared. terrified, even. he instinctively curls into a ball, shaking and pleading to be somewhere, ANYWHERE else than here, and the audience is reminded that despite being leagues above most of the other candidates, he's still a 12 year old boy looking for his father. and yet, despite feeling this terror; despite learning what fear really entailed, he continues on. he takes a few uncertain steps, and he's running forward once again.

meanwhile, 2011's take strikes me as very matter of fact; hisoka is scary, and gon is scared, but he quickly gets over it and moves on. it's still a very, VERY well done scene, and it gets the message across well (i actually do not know which hisoka i prefer between the two, they're both so unnerving), but 1999 is so good at humanizing its characters that i can't help but praise it for making me feel like i was there. like i could feel the exact same horror that gon felt, down to the last frame. it's difficult to achieve that sensation, but they ABSOLUTELY succeeded.

#can i also just talk about the scene in 1999 where gon is running after just stealing hisoka's badge #and you can hear his heartbeat while calm music plays in the background #only for the colors to distort when geretta tranquilizes him and the ost falls silent?? Rodolfo would somewhat vibe with your music. Whenever he’s especially pissed, he likes to listen to some aggressive music, like metal or some hard rock, to let out some of the anger. It doesn’t help in calming him down, but he feels better afterwards anyway. Outside of that, Alejandro sometimes listens to some classic bands, like AC/DC, The Rolling Stones or W.A.S.P. Aside from that, neither of them really listen to any of your music. It’s good to vibe to, has a great tune, but they usually leave some pop music on in the background, something they can just have on and ignore for the most part. Alejandro does like some classic Mexican music as well, though. So, neither of them would be too familiar with what you’re listening to. However, they think it’s really cool that you can enjoy such rough and fast paced music, many people shy away from it, after all. You could probably somewhat get them into it if you start out with either the classical songs or just some more mellow ones that aren’t too rough just yet. They love your little vest, though, since it looks awesome and really shows your dedication to those bands you like or have seen. If you slowly introduce them to your music, then you can slowly get them to have a vest of their own as well. It won’t be as magnificent as yours is, but they’ll try to add some patches of bands they’ve seen with you, which they liked. It’d be a small incentive for them to go to a concert with you, if they have the time.

You’d actually have an easier time dragging Rodolfo along than Alejandro. Don’t get me wrong, neither of them really mind going to concerts with you, but Rodolfo has found some bands he likes already. Because many of the classic bands don’t really play anymore, and because he doesn’t really know that many modern bands, Alejandro won’t know what he should listen to . Plus he prefers listening to the music he already knows. He may be open to something new if it’s really good, but he just sticks to the classics if he can. While neither of them may be familiar with the etiquette and customs of a concert, they’ll try for you. However, both of them will grow concerned when there’s suddenly a circle starting to form, one that you want to be part of. Rodolfo has heard about moshing before, but doesn’t really know what to think of it. It seems unnecessarily violent and crude, so he doesn’t want you to be part of such a thing. Alejandro is also hesitant, even if he has no idea in the slightest what’s going on. Both of them would try to convince you to not take part in it. With enough persuasion and asking them to get off your case, you could come to the agreement that Alejandro would go with you so you wouldn’t get hurt. You can tell him all you want that that’s just par for the course, he will come with you. Watches over you like a mother hen the entire time. Rodolfo does too, but he stands on the side and watches it all go down from there. It would take a few kind strangers helping you up to show them that moshing actually isn’t as bad as it might seem at first. However, one of them will always come with you and run alongside you whenever you wanna go moshing.

Once they’ve gotten accustomed to the idea of a mosh pit, you could partake in a wall of death as well. But that time both of them would be by your side. He wouldn’t admit it, but the idea of just ramming into someone does seem kind of fun to Alejandro, who, in turn, would convince Rodolfo to join as well. He would mention your safety being the highest priority, but in reality he just wants to goof around a bit with Rodolfo.

By then Rodolfo will likely have understood that metalheads really aren’t as scary as they may seem at first. He’ll just let you stagedive to your heart’s content, as long as you meet up again by the time the concert is over. It would actually be Alejandro who would fuss over you a bit since he’ll lose you out of his sight. Just convince him that you’ll be fine, that you won’t get hurt, and he’ll begrudgingly let you. He may not be too happy since he doesn’t want to lose you in a crowd this big, but he’ll let you if you really want it. Both of them will try to grab you and move you along, if you’re within reach, though. Again, as long as you find each other again once the concert is over, all is good. However, Alejandro won’t stop bugging Rodolfo about how you might be doing. It’s rare for Alejandro to be the uptight one this entire time and for Rodolfo to be so relaxed, but it can happen. The latter just really wants to enjoy the music. You’ll be fine, he trusts you.

So yeah, drag them along to a festival or a concert, they’ll have fun. Both of them have tinnitus from shooting guns anyway, so a concert won’t hurt them. They get to spend time with each other and with you, all the while listening to some good music.

i was telling my mom how the little girls have been obsessed with rite of spring, giselle, and wuthering heights, and one even mentioned wuthering heights to her kindergarten teacher, i was so embarassed. like the teacher must think im insane to tell kids about these things. and my mom says my own kindergarten teacher set up a serious meeting with them because she found it abnormal that i kept talking about stories of monsters and creatures who eat people (i was obsessed with beetlejuice) (arrested for being a gloomy child)

Kevin Day listens to classical music to fall asleep when he can’t (or to chase away nightmares)

Hey, may I know what headphones you use? I've been trying to find a good pair for a while now, but the ones I've read about are always slightly out of my price range. It's hell out here!

Oh god, it really is hell. Headphones can get so, so pricey, especially if you're looking for something good and not just 'uh yeah it... works???' That's why I loved mine so much!

My beloved headphone set, may it rest in peace, was a wired Hyperx Cloudx! There was a wireless version iirc but since I mostly write or game at my PC or on my laptop, I didn't need to worry about not being able to plug in.

I've tried headphone set after headphone set over the years, and all of them were either too painful for me to wear for long periods (whether it was gaming or writing), or prohibitively expensive looking at you bose.

These are literally the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. I cannot understate that. It's the first set I ever found that didn't bother my skin (chronic pain + nerve condition means rough fabric or plastic = ouch), didn't give me a headache from too much pressure, blocked out the majority of sound despite not technically being 'noise canceling', and they were affordable (got them on sale for 40$). They lasted me six years of almost daily use, carried me through 4 or 5 hour writing or gaming or show binging sessions, and only just started failing a few months ago. The insides are buttery soft with thick padding around the ears and band, my mic never had a problem picking up my voice when I was gaming with friends, and music quality is decent. Obviously they're a bit clunky if you want to wear them to the store, but for home or a cafe? They're amazing, and the mic is detachable so if you hate it, just pull it off.

If you're looking for a newer version, I ordered the Hyperx Cloud II, which is basically the same model, but with slightly more modern hardware for full surround sound. Much like when I bought the first set of headphones, these are currently on sale at Walmart for only $50 bucks, and it has all the same features and qualities (and comfort) that I loved in the first pair!

Basically if I'm looking for headphones at home, I'll always go Hyperx. The comfort is absolutely unmatched, especially at a relatively low price (sales happen fairly often), with decent sound.

#headphones #not enough people know how comfortable these are and that needs to change #i have literally never been able to wear headphones as long as i can wear the hyperx cloud series #they're not exercise headphones but if you're sitting and writing or listening to music or watching movies or binging a series #then they're AMAZING #ALSO THEY DON'T SCRATCH YOUR HEAD #AND THEY CRADLE YOUR EARS IN BUTTERY SOFT GOODNESS #AND THEY'RE NOT TOO HEAVY #sensory wise these are an absolute fucking delight #and granted i'm not an audiophile but the sound quality has always seemed quite nice to me #the fact that they're big and have all that padding around your ears also means they block out a LOT of other sounds #i can't use full noise cancelling because of some chronic pain issues and the pressure on my head when i put them on hurts #but these are as close as i can get and when i'm playing white or brown noise or just slightly louder music i can't hear anything else
