“Remus?”
Remus’ head jerks up, shoulders hunching forward, his mouth opening to tell whoever it is to fuck off, to leave him alone, when he sees who it is, and he closes his mouth.
Regulus’ lips are pressed into a thin line, his eyebrows furrowed with concern. He’s holding a few hardback books to his chest, where Remus can see the colours of his striped Gryffindor jumper. He scowls as he looks away. Of course Regulus is wearing James’ jumper.
“What do you want?” Remus finds himself snapping, a little coldly.
Regulus doesn’t say anything for such a long moment that Remus almost turns back around to check he’s still there, when he eventually speaks. “I know that my brother—”
“Sent you to apologise, has he? I don’t want to hear your sympathy for him, Regulus.”
“No one’s sent me to apologise,” Regulus says immediately.
“Why’re you here, then?”
Another silence. Remus refuses to turn around, his eyes flickering over the landscape of the hills beyond the great lake. Maybe he should take off next time the full moon comes around, run off into the forbidden forest and live with the woodland creatures. He’d fit in there. There’d be no Padfoot tailing his steps, watching his every move. Getting ready to grasp the right moment to turn him in.
He hears Regulus sigh, and then the dull thud as he sets his books down. Remus doesn’t speak as he climbs onto the windowsill opposite him, folding his long legs up to his chest.
None of them say anything. Regulus is looking outside, but Remus is looking at him out of the corner of his eye. They look so alike it almost feels like Remus is looking at another version of Sirius. At sixteen, Regulus is all sharp angles and cold, calculated silences. He’s got these green eyes outlined with a lightly darker hue that looks as if someone’s mixed green watercolours together. Eye bags lurk under them from hours spent stargazing instead of sleeping. His hair’s shorter than Sirius’, curlier, hanging over his brows and curling around his ears. Remus thinks—
“Are we going to talk, or are you going to keep comparing me to my brother in your head?” Regulus asks calmly, still staring out the window, though his eyes flick a little toward him.

All the artwork I made for the fanfic Crazy Ex-Boyfriend by @amethystheart2421 for this year's @rsbigbang!
It was a wild run, we got paired up quite late due to our original pairs dropping out of the Bang, and even though it was already December and time was running thin, I decided to make this whole deal a way bigger challenge than it supposed to be... So I ended up drawing all 7 fantasy sequences, trying to mimic a different style for all of them, and finishing both versions of the banners I had in mind. I know, I know, but I swear even I wasn't aware that I am such an overachiever either!
Also, I usually like to hide little details as easter eggs on all of my artwork, so naturally this was the case with these too. I'm gonna list them one by one, also share a little story about each piece, sort of like a "directors cut werk", just so we stick to the screenplay motif. The numbers in brackets lists the order in which I drew the pictures.
The banners (1.,9.): I haven't watched Crazy Ex-Girlfriend the show, so I really had no idea about this whole thing, hence my initial idea of re-drawing one of the official promo posters of the show as the banner. But then Nicole shared the first scene with me when we got paired up, and also told me that her original artist wanted to draw the stargazing scene, which I also really liked. I sketched out both versions to see which one would look better, and also to warm up a bit for this version of the characters. (Nicole also shared some faceclaims, so except Sirius' and Lily's design, I tried to stick to her vision as much as I could.) The Netflix poster was considered the final one for quite a while. The stargazing banner was the last piece of artwork I finished, which I also edited to be used as Chapter dividers. I liked the idea so much I actually referenced the starry sky on the other pictures too. On the Netflix banner, Remus' socks and Sirius' suit handkerchief (how do you call those things in English, gahh) both have the starry pattern.
The western (3.): By this time it was decided that I'd do all fantasy sequences in a different art style, but I couldn't really come up with any specific style which could have fit the western vibes, so the characters are drawn in my own usual style, only the colouring is different. I tried to go for a sepia effect, without using a filter, I think I could pull it off well enough. I was considering to draw Sirius as a Native American for this, because I just don't see him as Caucasian in general, and also, Black Dog sounds like a badly translated indigenous name... But I discarded this idea for the sake of "historical accuracy" (and to save time, haha), as I think they wouldn't visit a saloon this way. I added the starry sky pattern to Sirius' handkerchief and... scarf? (I really should learn how certain textil items are called in English...) There is a wanted poster in the background with Voldy. And I swear I didn't mean to draw Remus looking this horny, it just kinda happened by accident! He is sure VERY fascinated by Sirius'... pistol.😜
The Star Trek (6.): My original idea was to draw like usual and just add so many lensflares to the picture that it's not visible if I copied another style or not. But in the meantime I started to watch Star Trek: Strange New Worlds with my bf and also found out that there is a new cartoon too, so it was then settled. This style is very different from my own, but it was so much fun! It was weird not to draw every single strand of hair in excruciating detail, actually that was the hardest part, haha! I struggled a bit with the placement of the lensflares too, the first version had too many and too bright, it had a disco vibe rather than a spaceship. I wanted to add easter eggs to the background screen, but I was running out of time, so there's only one light blue star similar on the screen! Also now I know that the uniform colors are not really consistent in Star Trek, and Remus’ might have had to be gold as Captain…🤷🏻‍♀️
The Disney (2.): This one sparked the first idea in my head after I read all fantasy scenes Nicole kindly shared with me. When I first sketched this, I still had no idea that I will end up drawing for every chapter and the style copying was not settled either. It started with this piece, I had the vision of the wolf chasing scene from Beauty and the Beast, and we were discussing whether it's plausible to collect berries during the winter or not... I've tried to make the final piece look as classic Disney as I can, and since I could pull it off, it was not a question anymore whether I'd try to do this with other styles for the other scenes. Retrospectively, this one was the easiest to make, apparently my usual style is not that far from Disney (I grew up watching those movies, so it's not a surprise), but I had to really focus on drawing the animals, it's been ages since I last drew any! (The trick is to give them eyebrows, and bam, it's Disney style!) Sirius' armour, clothes and sword has the star, and I also designed his own "crest" with the black dog and a star on his shoulder plate. The whole concept of the picture is Sirius' side being very bright coloured, while Remus' with the scary wolves in the background being very dark. This might have worked better if it was not set in the winter, but I wanted to stick to the Beauty and the Beast vision I had.
The Comicbook (4.): I was very excited for this one, I really like the looks of the old Batman the animated series, and the way some of his comics are drawn. It's such a unique style, I really like the simple shapes and bold contrasts. Well, it turned out I am very bad at this! I struggled quite a bit trying to capture what I had in mind, but I couldn't even come close to it... So I kinda cheated a bit because I just traced the lineart directly from the reference pictures of Batman comic books I found online. I tried to make Remus less buff, but it looked very weird, so I let him keep his muscular Batman body instead. I drew the wolf mask and the whole Sirius panel, and the coloring went smoothly after I finalized the lineart, even though I only realized that I switched the colour schemes of Remus' superhero outfit when I looked up the quotes for the comic panels, oops. Overall I like how it looks, but I am not that proud of it as I had to "cheat".
The Hobbit (5.): I've probably spent the most time with this one! I actually really like Martin Freeman as an older Remus FC, so I was quite excited to do this piece. My original idea was to mimic John Howe's style, as he is the Tolkien illustrator god, but his level of skill and mine are very very far from each other... and as I struggled a lot with the Batman piece, I felt like going for a smaller challenge. That's why I decided to have a go at Alphonse Mucha's art nouveau style. Turned out it was the worst possible idea! 🤣 The whole point of art nouveau is depicting attractive ladies in an ethereal way... But if you switch the ladies with a fat hobbit, the vibe def won't be the same! The first version just looks so extremely absurd, it's both awful and hilarious. By the time I could fix the pose so it wouldn't look as ridiculous, the final style looked nothing like art nouveau... I still have no idea what style it is now, not my own or any of the ones I tried to capture, that's for sure. I considered adding the star pattern to that tablecloth, but I decided that the lupin flowers in the foreground and the whomping willow-like tree are enough reference for this pic! I like how it turned out in the end tho, I think I could do justice for the watercolor-looking coloring technique, and the end result looks a bit like a fancier version of old children's book illustrations... Which is essentially what The Hobbit is, so it all sorted itself out by the end.
The Anime (7.): I like anime (I'm a little picky about them tho), so it was not a question that I would give this style a try! I am a huge fan of cyberpunk (the genre), so initially wanted to do that, I'm such a slut for Ghost in the Shell and I really like the aesthetics of the Akira posters, but after reading the actual scene, it was not really fitting. So I saved the cyberpunk AU for later, and went for the post-apocalyptic vibe instead. Obviously anime had a great influence on my art style, so similar to the Disney one, it was not that much of a challenge to mimic it. However I'm not that good at drawing backgrounds, and oh boy, I really made myself get over this obstacle with this series of pictures! Also as I was more comfortable with this piece, I actually added the starry sky pattern from the beginning to the scarf/blanket Remus has on this picture!
The Sitcom (8.): The original idea was to copy Hanna Barbera's old family cartoons' style, but as my deadline was very close and after reading the scene I realized that it will have a shitton of characters, I quickly abandoned my original plan. So this one is drawn in my own style, sort of, the designs of the characters are more aligned with Nicole's vision (sans Sirius, Lily, and partly Peter). The hardest part was definitely to figure out how I could fit 10 characters into one picture, let alone sitting in a living room! Also, I had to actually draw the living room too, considering perspective and scaling... Something I am not that good at. In the end the coffee table is maybe a little too big, but I needed that to hide the legs of the characters sitting on the sofa, haha! Also, the sofa is the Millennial Dark Green Velvet Sofa, because I also want to have one and it really emphasizes the general existential dread! (Just kidding.) Also also, I just realized that I have no idea how to eat tacos without making a mess (they are not that popular where I live). I added the starry sky pattern to Sirius' shirt, and gave a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles T-shirt to Peter, as he is talking about that in the scene. I wanted to squeeze in further references to the newspaper Remus is holding, but it was too tiny. The star from Knight Sirius' armour is in the background on the bookshelf. Also that globe just makes no sense but I had no better idea how to fill the empty space 😅. Molly is holding a mug with "BEST MOM" written on it, and I intentionally made Marlene's eye colour the same as Remus', who btw should have worn a bathrobe according to the original scene, but it was too late to fix that by the time I realized it. All in all, I am quite satisfied with how it turned out, it has the necessary sitcom vibes. And it is kinda a record for me in terms of number of characters drawn (the most was 12, but that one has no background, so I'd call it a tie!)!! I am very proud of myself for pulling this piece off, it really is the achievement of the year!
TLDR; (I mean really, my rambling is just too long!) I am happy that I was paired up with Nicole, working with her was such a creative process! My absolute favourite thing to do is work on AUs, and she has provided me with the opportunity to do so, I am grateful! It was truly a pleasure to participate in this (even if it's not that clear from all the complaining I just had above, haha)! If you ask me nicely I might show you the cursed first version of the hobbit picture!

Hi! I've been following your blog for a while. As a longtime ARMY and someone who (wants to) believe that jikook is real, your posts never fail to give me the flutters.
Did you get a chance to see Jimin's choreography practice sketch yet? (spoiler: jk shows up hehe)
Whenever I see jikook interacting (and especially in recent years), it always feels and looks like it should be something kept private. Idk. I'm parasocializing third-wheeling lmao. The way they can't stop smiling at each other. The way their hands reach for each other like second nature. The way jk speaks to jm; I know little about the nuances of korean informal/formal language, but even then their tones are what make the difference to me. Language barrier or not, it's hard to miss how jk speaks to jm, which is so different from how he speaks to the other members. And all this, out of a less than 1-min interaction between the two (maybe I'm also projecting lol)
Ever since jk's suchwita live, I've plunged neck deep in jikook feels. Jk didn't have to make a live centered around jm, but he did. He didn't have to watch 2 diff versions of set me free pt 2, nor watch the bts teasing jm compilation, all in front of us; but he did. He did, and it's been wreaking havoc on my heart ever since. That must mean something, because jk doesn't do this for the other members. It goes beyond fanservice because as you already mentioned, he wasn't paying much attention to ARMY during the live. We weren't the focus; jm was.
I'm not delusional - at least, I don't want to be delusional. I've said this to myself many times since 2015. I enjoyed their dynamic together, but as time went on, the dynamic began to shift. Each year it became less funny and more real. Certain moments, like hickey gate and rosebowl, seemed straight out of fantasy. And even looking beyond them, the reactions of the other members are also very telling.
I don't remember why I wrote this anymore lol. I'm just glad I don't seem to be alone in thinking they're real. And thank you for your hardwork and content! I always enjoy reading your thoughts on our favourite black and white + sun and moon + 5813 + you-are-me-i-am-you couple💜🌙☀
Tumblr media
@theblindjassassin I do apologize for taking such a long time to get back to you. But I didn't forget you.
Everything you wrote is just IT.
You are not delusional. We here, us, are not delusional.
Those parts of the fandom that love calling us that, they are either colour blind (can't see the rainbow), or delusional themselves wishing upon a non existent romantic relationship between either JK or JM and another member (never happened, ain't happening, and ain't ever going to happen).
Tumblr media
I'm happy you did put your thoughts to paper, so to speak, because it's lovely to read these kind of posts every once in a while, helps us refocus, remember, reminiscence.

🐓👨‍👧‍👦🐣Big Brother Bradley Bradshaw Fic Recs🐣👨‍👧‍👦🐓

Check the Top Gun Masterlist post for the latest updated version. 💕
Ao3 Authors: AnadoraBlack, Bahjrc, Brenda, Capt_scarwidow, ForVendetta, Ginnydear, LadyLanera, Likethenight, Nightfuryy, SaintClaire.
> Kid Fic - Single Dad & Parents {🤠🐓}
I used to hate you by AnadoraBlack {M}
When Bradley Bradshaw and Jake Seresin first meet at Top Gun, they immediately decide that they hate each other.
Shape Up by likethenight {G}
Bradley and Amelia get to know each other. They're pretty much siblings at this point, after all, aren't they?
Ante Up by Brenda {T}
Wild Card
"So?" he repeated, at a loss. She rolled her eyes, and made a production of looking around the hangar. "So, is there anything fun to do in this sad museum of stunted masculinity and 80s-dad nostalgia, or are we just supposed to sit quietly like wax figures until Mom and Mav are done communing or canoodling or whatever?" Shit, Mav and Penny left him alone with Amelia. Who Bradley hadn't even laid eyes on since she was...nine or ten, maybe, at some picnic or another Aunt Sarah and Uncle Ice had thrown. She'd had braided pigtails that day, he recalled. And was a good foot shorter. Or: While waiting for Maverick and Penny to finish their sunset plane ride, Rooster and Amelia play poker and get to know each other again. (Set immediately post-credits)
Winning Hand
Bradley could practically see the radar pinging in Nat's brain. "Poker? You play poker?" "Sometimes," Amelia replied. "Sometimes, she says." Bradley shuddered, exaggerated for Phoenix's benefit. "Don't let her con you, she can kick my ass." "She can kick anyone's ass," Mav agreed, raising his beer. He sounded every inch the proud parent. Phoenix turned to Bradley, those big brown eyes feverishly bright. "Can she kick Seresin's ass?"  Or: A "friendly" game of poker is played, and more than a few long-hidden truths are revealed
Full House
Bradley tilted his head at Amelia. "Didn't realize Lindy was joining us." Mav's grin was very wide and very pleased with itself. "It's my party, and I want her here." "At your bachelor party?" Bradley emphasized, just to be sure everyone was on the same page. Or: Mav hosts a poker game for his bachelor party, and Amelia may have finally met her match. (Takes place a year after Winning Hand)
Flock Together by LadyLanera {T}
They made it home. Settled into becoming a family with Amelia and Penny. Rooster finally had that chance of his happily ever after he dreamed of. Only he was pretty certain that Jake "Hangman" Seresin wasn't into him regardless of what everyone claimed otherwise. No one was that big of a dick to someone they liked...right? > Author Rec: LadyLanera writes lots of Amelia Benjamin & Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw in her stories, with the most amazing brotherly & sisterly feels.
I'll Watch Your Life In Pictures (like I used to watch you sleep) by capt_scarwidow {G}
Amelia and Rooster hang out while Penny and Maverick fly, and Rooster discovers that he may have missed out on things when he was gone - AKA Dad!Mav and Rooster being awful with kids
big brother duties by ginnydear {G}
“But what I’m trying to say,” Bradley says after a moment, handing Jake a clip and touching Amelia’s shoulder, “is that… well, you have me now.” “Ew, are you offering to be my brother?” five times jake helps bradley with amelia and the one time amelia helps bradley with jake.
Amelia's Big Brothers by nightfuryy {_}
Amelia's first period happens when she's staying with Jake and Bradley. Cue the best big brothers.
i’ll fly like an eagle to where i belong by forVendetta {G}
Maverick and Amelia throughout the years.
The Colour Of An Avocado by SaintClaire {M}
Four times Jake got jealous and one time Bradley did. --- The thing about Tim is that he’s probably a decent guy. Jake would know this if he was willing to spend more than twenty seconds talking to him, but alas, he’s not. He’s Bradley’s ex, and that’s three strikes out and a fourth for good measure, as far as Jake’s concerned.
as it was by bahjrc {G}
In this world, it's just us. From that mission day on, things would never be the same as before. But Rooster doesn't think that is a bad thing, he doesn't know if Hangman thinks the same. He just might find out.

guys. i think we should talk about the Presentable Liberty and Expotable Money character lore.
SPOILERS!!!
Theres two endings to Presentable Liberty: one where you leave your room to find out your prison cell was the elevator the whole time (Mr Money moneysaving tactics tm), and one where you don't. the leave ending is obviously sadder, but the stay ending give you so much more info? Like, Mr Money explains his whole plan to you (classic villain, very chefs kiss). of course, I think it can be said both games are about loneliness? yes?
PRESENTABLE LIBERTY:
Prisoner was trapped there because they're one of the few who's IMMUNE TO THE VIRUS, that's why Mr Money says "you're worth every penny". He fed them and a few others one of the only working versions of the antidote, which means there's more ppl like them (potential to explore aftermath of the game). I feel like ppl dont know about this? and he was all planning on harvesting their organs and all that for money, which he does, but yknow. we can pretend. one can explore whether or not all the prisoners were in the same building, whether you meet prisoners on the outside, or you could talk about the fact that a lot of the Happy Buddies were being fired because the prisoners were killing themselves and all that. Trapped lonely.
Salvadore's cool, the Prisoner and him were friends before, that seems like an obvious place to arrive. Loneliness of freedom? Room to explore backstory for him and the Prisoner. I got a headcannon: he picked his name for himself because he wanted to sound cooler. Seems par for the course for him, and that would be a cool little detail. I'd love to explore his relationship with the prisoner, and if any of you watched Sanders Sides, he gives BIG Roman energy.
Charlotte has "pick your poison" type loneliness. It somehow seems like both of them are very good at loneliness, however you wanna interpret that. She also gives "person who loves the colour purple".
Mr Smiley's my favourite, but that's only because there's so much about him. He was hired to be the prisoner's happy buddy, Mr Money was holding his two daughters hostage to keep him working, turns out they died ages ago, you wonder what his life and work day was like, and with all the lore, you wonder what kind of person he was. The fact that his name is Mr Smiley is just salt in the wound.
LETS TALK ABT EXPOTABLE MONEY.
prequel to Presentabe Liberty.
Youre Mr Money's organ supplier. so. immediately, added layer of depth. you, Mr Money, and Madame Sinclaire, whos a baddie, we love her. I like how it explores the opposite side of the fight, the moneys side. I believe its about one's obsession with earning money, and in fact about how when you're anxious about money, no amount seems enough and you use everything you can to try to get more. the "I need to keep earning more money or it'll all disappear if I look away" mentality. (If you haven't read the short story Johnny Mnemonic, it feels like that is what this game is based off of, or maybe theyre just coincidentally thematically similar in which case read it anyways,)
I feel Madame Sinclaire was one possible future for Mr Supplier where she also used to be hyperfixated on money but was able to turn away from that, while Mr Money is the opposite possible future. you earn money even when you don't click, and i'm not sure but can someone comfirm whether or not the clicking is slowing down your money production? THAT would be a great element of the game to further represent the money-obsession theme I theorize. its also your choice whether or not to send your cat on more trips, and in the end, one can argue its Mr Supplier's fault his cat got killed. One could also argue Madame Sinclaire somehow knew the cat was theirs and killed it to prove a point.
Also just a side note, it seems that the organ failure was an accident that Mr Money didn't expect, but he managed to make it work in his favour still. somehow. perhaps he wasnt concerned because of his secret weapon, the Prisoner.
I do think I will need to watch or play Menagerie: Archive if this obsession continues, I hear theyre in the same universe.

any thoughts on how spike and angel show their genders when they where human vs vampires
Yes!
So it's really fascinating to me what bits of how they present themselves do or don't change through the centuries. And I can't tell which bits of this is for, like, internal reasons, and what's a response to the changing cultural ideas of what makes a man.
We've talked before about how Spike (as a vampire) seems to see himself as a masculine object - talking about himself as the corpse of a man (like in Once More With Feeling), like he's being animated by his obsession with Buffy as much as he is by the vampirism. And with the whole "I know I'm a monster, but you treat me like a man" thing too, for Spike the vampire there's this recurring thing of A Man being not something he Is so much as something he'd like to be.
I've only seen the one scene of him as a human man so some of this was outsourced to @transangelus who's watched Buffy many times. But the thing about human Spike is he also tied a lot of himself to the women in his life, clinging both to his mother and to the women he tries to seduce with terrible poetry, even (especially?) when that's unsuccessful. Spike as a human man is... not wholly successful just in general, actually.
From an article on Victorian masculinity and how it affects our present understanding, "Victorian public school boys were strong, stoical and athletic – ready to die for their country, but not to talk about their feelings." Now, that sounds like pretty much the opposite of what we've seen of William Pratt, a man who was:
Not a successful poet
Wrote primarily about his emotions
No indication that he was good at sports
Not physically intimidating
Left handed
Bad at seducing women
Bullied by other men
Defined by his relationships (and lack thereof) to women
I don't think I'd say Spike was "womanly" as a human, but he wasn't living up to what it meant to be a "man".
A lot of that is tied to not being physically powerful and not having a girlfriend - the reverse of which is pretty inherent to his vampire self. But somehow, as a vampire, he's Still drawn to nonconformity, wearing his woman's coat (stolen from Nikki Wood's dead body in the 70s), painting his nails black (the most masculine colour he could have chosen but like... this is during the era of "metrosexual", when even the fact that he puts products in his hair could be taken as a non-masculine trait), naming himself after a Thing Of Violence rather than keeping the cool manly William the Bloody, generally doing non-masculine stuff he wouldn't have had a chance to do as a human man. I think the main difference between his modern vampire self and his Victorian human self is that now the non-masculine facets of Spike's presentation are a choice rather than a failure. Every time he insults a man for being effeminate, it feels... well I'm not sure Exactly how self aware Spike is, but it feels like he's trying to get under their skin more than legit pick on them for being girly or gay yk?
Angel's pretty similar in some ways. Seen as a failure by his parental figure - that failure being tied to masculinity (direct quote from Angel's human father: "It’s a son I wished for – a man – instead God gave me you"). But from what we saw of Angel as a human... unless I'm missing some history info about 1700s Ireland, there's nothing non-masculine I can see! Angel as a human:
Used a man's name (Liam - the Irish version of William, interestingly)
Kept his hair long (in fashion at the time)
Regularly had sex with women (from an article about masculinity in this time period - "From around 1720 [...] the dominant, hegemonic man is no longer defined by his house-holding status and his good domestic and Christian order but by the fact that he desires and has sex only with women.")
Angel as a human didn't seem happy, or even content, with his masculinity. He sought for it and, like Spike, was accused of falling short. And I hate to say any bullies were right, but I Do think the "not a man" accusations were speaking to something inherent about Angel rather than any failures to live up to a cultural standard of masculinity.
Vampire Angel is interesting. I mean, taking the name "Angel" (not the most masculine of names) is one thing, but even (especially?) while soulless his masculinity is... not quite right, I'll say.
Angelus kept his look pretty much the same throughout his relationship with Darla - and while that shifted from being classically masculine to being more effeminate as the centuries passed, since he was going around with a 1600s women (who wouldn't care about such things) and acting as the family patriarch, any nonconformity was way less of a big deal. But once he gets a soul? He goes right back to forcing himself into cultural norms.
In the 50s he cut his hair and dressed like a greaser. In the 70s he kept it long but started wearing low cut shirts and leather jackets - possibly his least conformative souled era and it went badly enough to send him back to eating rats in the sewers. In the 90s and early 00s - with a brief break for Angelus to wear some eyeliner (imitating Spike? Imitating what he believes to be corruptive?) - he puts on such a strong facade of masculinity that the man posing as his Swami asks "Why do you hate yourself?", before saying that Angel consists of "The image you work so hard to create and the real you." (personal note - Angel refers to his demonic side as "it" during that conversation). Combined with how many times he's given the opportunity to take on something feminine and either Immediately reacts with fear and anger, or tries it out very happily before someone else sees or questions? Plus the refusal of the titles man, boy, Mr..... I can only see Angel's masculinity as an intentional facade covering something he's terrified of. Two things, actually. The internal calls to the feminine and to the demonic.
So... yeah! TL;DR - Human!Spike = struggling man tied to relationships with women, Vampire!Spike = successfully nonconforming corpse seeking personal masculinity in relationships with women. Human!Angel = successfully masculine in theory but somehow still not allowed into male socialisation, Vampire!Angel = deeply concerned with emulating an ideal of the Normal Man, repressing womanhood and evilness as if they equally reveal him as something other than what he strives for

Get to know you - Sims Style
Thank you @bioniczombie for the tag! :D What’s your favorite Sims death? Absolutely, without a doubt: Death By Flies. I don't even know why, it was just so fun to watch in TS2. I don't kill Sims as much anymore, just because I have my favourites that I don't want to die--but every now and then, I still do. Honestly, if I don't like the Sim, I just delete them instead.
Alpha CC or Maxis Match? Mostly Maxis Match, but I do have alpha content because I liked it enough. I like semi-realism; not too cartoony, but not TOO realistic. Do you cheat your sims weight? Usually no, unless it's for a character's purpose. I actually didn't know the weight could change in TS3, until I realized my one Sim was gaining weight and while on her third pregnancy. I was doing a generational challenge at the time, so absolutely no cheating was allowed. Let's just say.... her weight could never be altered, lol. Do you move objects? Like... using moo? If so, yes. If not... I mean, like redecorating? Because also yes. Do you move objects? Oh--too many to name. XD I was thinking about doing a mod post, after seeing one yesterday.... and unfortunately losing it. x__x; There were some I would have liked to have had.
First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack? Well... I'm not sure how to answer this one, as the Sims 1 pack I got had two EPs that came with it, then I got the other 3 as a bundle as well. Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing? As aLIVE, as that made sense to me in my head. The other way just sounds so wrong. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?
Oh---this is GOING to be tough. So from TS2 (( because I don't think he translated as amazingly to TS3, but still okay enough )) is always going to be Timothy Blake. My other favourite Sims are always going to be my pirate couple: they were my favourites in TS2 and I've made them TWICE in TS3--and this current version of them in my absolute favourite pairing. I don't really have any currently in TS4. I should try to make my pirate pair in TS4. Have you made a simself? Uh, yes--for my friend for her HG Challenge. She made one of herself and her kitty, so I made one of myself. And she KILLED me. XD I'm so offended, but her Simself at least paid her respects to me, and I do apparently haunt the house, so... it's all good, lol.
Which is your favorite EA hair color? I'm not entirely sure. I've downloaded some hair colours as well, so I can' be 100% sure if I'm liking an EA one or another, but: red. If you haven't noticed, I put red hair on almost every Sim. XD
Favorite EA hair? I think it's either one from Supernatural or a Store hair, but I've used it on my female Sims a lot, because it's cute and elegant at the same time. Also the pointy one from Into The Future--the one with the braids. Favorite life stage? Young Adult Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? Well, I'm certainly NOT a builder, despite what you've seen. I'm more of a re-constructer. XD I like the gameplay, but, if I'm being honest, I love the CAS part more. I like fashion and designing things.
Are you a CC creator? ...yes? I don't have much, but I'm proud of what I have done. I wish I could do more, such as modding or at least getting my WIPs to work properly.
Do you have any Simblr friends or a Sim Squad? I have very few friends in the Simblr/Sims community.
Do you have any sims merch? No, but it would be cool to see some stuff at Hot Topic or BoxLunch. Do you have a Youtube for sims? I wanted to, and I sort of have a few Sims vids up, but I really hate the sound of my voice, and I'm an introvert and even when doing private vids (( not for public-viewing, I should mention )) for my best friend when we exchange Christmas and birthday gifts, I'm usually the one NOT talking, lol. My friend chats away about everything, and I'm just "**unwraps gift carefully while being completely silent*". It took about fifty takes for me to do one Tik Tok dealing with my personal unexplained stories. How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing? When it was TS2, I downloaded everything I saw that I liked. I tried not to do that in the beginning of playing TS3; only downloading some makeup, then it became shoes... then clothing.... and it just spiral after that. Now I really go for EA-only converted things (( build and buy-wise )) or something that is REALLY cute or truer to EA-lore (( or edited EA items )). CAS is another story. I have found clothing in my CAS that doesn't look good on Sims/is broken and I eventually take those out when I get the chance. I also realized I don't like non-Simlish words on my shirts, but I can't really do too much with those unfortunately. Who’s your favorite CC creator? This is going to be hard, because there are just too many: @mspoodle1 was probably the first one I ever followed on Tumblr because I liked her CC so much. I also really love @twinsimming, @pixelfrogslegs, @aroundthesims, @bioniczombie, @aisquaredchoco, @nectar-cellar, @simtanico, @aprilrainsimblr, @phoebejaysims, @ilvansims3conversion, @auroraeternal, @kotajose, @ninaaposts, @nightospheresims, and waaaaay too many more. How long have you had Simblr? I don't know... maybe 2013 or 2014? I made it to show off my Sims screenies to a coworker of mine who also played TS3.
How do you edit your pictures? Photoshop What expansion/gamepack is your favorite? I can't really choose with Sims 1--so I'll skip that. For Sims 2: Apartment Life or Bon Voyage. For Sims 3: Supernatural AND World Adventures. For Sims 4: I have very few expansions that I haven't tried everything out JUST yet (( just installed Jungle Adventures and I'm super excited to try it out!! I'm also seeing a pattern here, lol )), but the demo I did of Snowy Escape? LOVED. I don't know who to tag, but I'm just going to pick of a couple of Simmers I didn't mention at all: @ameriko-steelie, @bellakenobi, @camoflaage, @mainlyjustthesims, @deniisu-sims, and @polaesims

I've been really enjoying the 911 costume meta you put together every week and it's been super interesting! I've even caught myself watching other stuff and noticing costume that's sort of foregrounded and wondering what kind of significance it has.
And I'm curious about your process! How much of the sort of "language" of meanings are generally agreed upon in costuming vs put together by the show's costumers - like is checks signifying change a universal thing or something that developed over seasons? And I feel like you must have a spreadsheet with everyone's costumes (or an incredible memory), I'm always impressed by the recall to prior episodes (not a skill I have lol). (Sorry if you've answered these before! I only found your meta breakdowns this season)
Antislice, lovely having you in my inbox!
I'm so so sorry that this has taken me an age to get round to answering, especially as its such a good ask, but I am happy that you've started noticing costume related things in other shows!
So each show/ piece of media will create its own themes etc that it plays on - 911 is doing this with check and stripes more generally and then Buck being in white is a more character specific meaning. The thing with check is that it is by nature a pattern that has lots of crossings in it - that makes it a perfect metaphor for change - for being at a crossroads as it were, so its one that tends to get used more frequently and as a result is becoming a specific language in its own right. Thats how many of these costume languages and meanings develop - they either deliberately or inadvertently get used in one or two things to convey a message and then spiral from there into a specific meaning that becomes a trope in its own right. its like a costume version of knowing the person who goes off alone in a horror movie is going to die!
As for colours - there is a lot more in this - the meanings of different colours is something that has been around since before film existed - its been around for centuries, it is worth noting that different cultures apply different meanings to colours - red for example has a different meaning in Chinese culture than it does in western culture - so its always important to keep that in mind when watching something regardless of where it comes from - because a good designer will make use of these differences if they are dressing someone from a different background. When I did my degree in costume design, we had specific lectures and seminars on colour theory and in analysing its use in various media (they were my favourite classes 😎) because it is important to understand so that you can better tell the story you're trying to tell.
Much colour theory is known by your subconscious and most people go through life completely unaware that colour is affecting decisions they make - its something advertisers use to their advantage!
I like to think I have an incredible memory 😂 and I kind of do - it remembers most things (usually it recalls a costume but cant remember exactly which episode it appeared in!), but you're right - I do have a spreadsheet (well I have one for each main and one for guest cast!) with all the costumes listed - its a full costume plot andis based on the plots I used to create when I worked in the industry! It has time stamps, reference pictures and is colour coded for type of costume and if its connected to a theme - its a bit geeky of me but I love doing it!
The first thing I do before I start writing my meta is a rewatch where I fill out all costume details for the episode and add the reference pictures! Maybe I'll share it with everyone during the summer hiatus, but then again maybe that would be one step too far!!!
I hope this answers your questions and sorry again that I didn't get to it sooner! 💜💜💜

Thoughts on baela/aemond, baela/aegon, rhaena(?)/aemond
I'm going to talk about their show versions, since they interacted more there. Honestly, anon, I am not convinced that Aemond and Aegon look at Baela and Rhaena favourably and I think the feeling is mutual. I'm not policing anyone's shipping preferences, but, as it stands, I don't think it tracks.
So, if you're really into these ships and don't want to read any counter-arguments, you're welcome to just not click any further.
So my arguments basically stem from the fact that both Aegon/Aemond and Baela/Rhaena had such an awful first impression of each other, that it very much coloured their perceptions in a negative way. This is not a drag on Baela or Rhaena, this is about how each person appears to the other based on a very high-stress, high-stakes incident that was handled very badly by every party, including their adult parents.
These people have never met before Laena's funeral and, after that, they spend another 6 years apart and meet each other exactly one more time before the war starts. When assessing each other, they really don't have a lot of information to work with; the fact of the matter is that they don't truly know each other, so perception is really all they're got here. How someone truly is and how they genuinely act in other social contexts and with other people is irrelevant in this particular situation.
Aemond's POV
The girls attacked Aemond first in the cave and wrongly accused him of stealing Vhagar, he insulted them and hit them back in self-defence. Then they all kicked him when he was on the ground. Baela and Rhaena did retreat at one point and called for de-escalation, but the entire incident left him eyeless and traumatized.
The girls couldn't have known that Jace & Luke had previously bullied Aemond, but, in his mind, I would find it reasonable for him to associate them with his childhood bullies and perceive them as antagonistic. It wouldn't really matter how the girls are in real life, since Aemond's sole interaction with them amounted to literally the worst moment of his life. They could be the sweetest children in Westeros, would a maimed Aemond really care?
He is then the singular narrator of his tale back to his family. He's gonna tell his mother and siblings that Baela and Rhaena attacked him too. They didn't gouge his eye out, but that doesn't change the fact that he lost said eye as a result of a fight they started.
Six years later, he isn't rude to them the next time they see each other, but he acts completely disinterested and doesn't even spare them one (1) glance. The girls don't apologise for what happened either or approach him in any way. Judging by how much of a pressure cooker Aemond is about this issue, I very much doubt he would be keen to interact with people who'd take Luke's or Jace's side. He doesn't react in any way at the news of their betrothal, not when Rhaenys announces it in court, not when Viserys mentions it again at dinner and not when Helaena toasts to them.
Aegon's POV
Aegon has even less interaction with Baela and Rhaena, but I would argue that he basically insinuates himself into Aemond's beef with his attackers.
We can see that the maiming turned Aegon against Jace and Luke, but what about Baela and Rhaena then? At the funeral, Aegon is not seen acknowledging them in any way, is bored AF and gets drunk as soon as possible. He is then woken up in the middle of the night, most likely still half-drunk & feeling like shit and aggressively interrogated by Viserys. All because a bunch of brats attacked his brother, now he has to watch the maester stitch up half his face and protect his mother from his own father. This is literally his divorce from Jace and Luke, but the girls get off the hook even though they also beat up his brother? People seem to forget Aegon also got put in the spotlight because of a fight Baela and Rhaena started. Let's be real for a moment - would someone with Aegon's personality and in Aegon's situation absolve the girls of any guilt?
At dinner, Aegon decides to antagonize Jace by directing his dumb sex jokes to Baela. Yes, it's Jace he particularly wishes to rile up, but he doesn't care enough to not be vulgar to Baela and he's not even trying to hit on her. Not that those crass comments would be OK in any situation, but he only sees her as vehicle to insult Jace. Aegon is showing us how boorish he is; evidently, he's not above harassing the girls just to annoy their boyfriends. When his first attempt fails, he keeps going. He's not going to stop until he garners a reaction.
When Baela throws hands at him after he smashes Luke's face in, he goes to her and makes a ridiculous "boo" gesture at her, as if he finds laughable the notion that she could fight him. He doesn't think it cute, he's mocking her. Later on in the books, Baela attacks him with her dragon, further injuring him and Sunfyre. As punishment, he wants to behead her (twice??) I think it's safe to say he & Baela are too antagonistic towards each other in order to get along. She'd only end up pissing him off.
Rhaena he completely and utterly ignores. But had she and Luke been seated next to him, I'm pretty certain he would have harassed Rhaena to get at Luke. In the books, she spends the war in the Vale and they don't interact any further.
Baela's & Rhaena's POVs
This one is rather easy. What would Baela and Rhaena even see in Aemond or Aegon?
They probably (and rightfully) think Aegon is a lecherous drunkard. Why would they want a relationship with this ratboy?
They think that, by claiming Vhagar, Aemond took away the last part of their mother they had left. They feel Rhaena was entitled to try to claim Vhagar first, even though she might very well have been burnt to a crisp in the attempt. If they ever had a change of heart on that topic, they never voice it out loud. They don't apologise to Aemond or even look regretful, so they must not feel responsible for what happened or think he should just get over it. They sit at a table next to an eyeless boy and act like they had nothing to do with it. When he has his outburst, they must think it unjustified and out-of-place.
Moreover, they never really look preoccupied with Aegon or Aemond in any way. They appear pleased to be with Jace and Luke. Baela, at least, both in the books and in the show, seems to be a die-hard Rhaenyra stan herself. Rhaena is shown to be similarly predisposed - she offers Rhaenyra a cup of wine in a show of support when she comes to attend the council. That would really just drive Aegon and Aemond up the wall. Baela & Rhaena don't seem in any way willing to defect and, likewise, they really don't come across as secretly pining for the village alcoholic and his anime villain sidekick either.

7. "No one has ever done that for me before." please? 🥺
When I started this one, I had no idea that it was going to be this long. I’ve had to split it into two parts! :) I’ve not finished the other one, actually, but I will at some point when I’m not busy.
----------
New Caprica was a funny place. It felt like a strange and diluted version of home, a muted cacophony of hopes and dreams gone awry. People were trying to make it a place to live, they were trying to build themselves up from nothing, attempting to mould the relatively barren land into something of comfort. It just didn't feel right, though, didn't seem to have the potentials that they'd all hoped for once they'd jumped into orbit around the planet, and it left a sour expression on so many people's faces. The disappointment was as suffocating as fog, and it fingered its way through the small settlement, tainting anything in its path.
There was one person who seemed to be able to see the land for more than what it was or at least made it seem that way when she spoke about it, and that was the woman who he'd been looking forward to seeing for weeks.
"Are you just going to stand there staring? Or are you going to pick something up?" Laura chided playfully, scooping a strand of her auburn hair out of the way of her face as she gave him a toothless grin.
Bill smiled at her, admiring the way that her copper hair seemed to make everything around her so much duller than what it was. It was even better that she was dressed in green, a dark pine green in fact, that not only brought out the colour in her eyes but also made her hair look like fire.
"I've got it, don't worry," he responded, smirking as he picked up a small backpack and flung it over his shoulder, catching another sneaky glance in her direction, not being able to keep his eyes off of her for more than a few minutes. Initially, he hadn’t anticipated how much he would miss her. Those sparkling green eyes that he would meet over a table, the light chuckle she’d offer him when they were alone, the companionship she’d given him unintentionally. There was so much about her that he hadn’t realised had become a part of his environment, not at least until she wasn’t around anymore.
"I was glad that you made it down as early as you did," Laura offered, settling a backpack on her own shoulders, and adjusting the straps so they were tighter. "I know it's grim right now, and it's quite a regular occurrence to have this misty sort of rain at this time of day, but as you break through over the hill, past the mist, you'll get to see the morning sun rising up."
"I'm looking forward to it," Bill replied truthfully, adjusting the straps on his own backpack, making it a little looser over his broad shoulders. The truth was, she could be taking him to a mud hole in the middle of a field and he would enjoy it just the same because it was time he was getting to spend with her. What he loved about this current topic of conversation, was how animated she was about it, how it excited her, energised her, and made her seem hopeful for her future.
"You'll really love it. Honestly, when I say that the water is like looking through glass, I might not be emphasising it enough." Laura did the zipper up of her jumper until he stopped just below her chin before grabbing something on her wrist and bundling up her hair at the back of her head.
Bill watched, slightly fascinated, slightly enamoured by the way she allowed a strand on either side of her face to hang loose. He liked it, really liked it. "Shall we then?" He replied quickly, swallowing hard when he realised that she’d caught him staring again. Perhaps she was going to get paranoid she had something on her face if he carried on, or worse, realise that he had it bad.
At first, as they navigated through the tents, Bill followed behind Laura who seemed to know the rows as if they were streets, stopping every now and again to make sure that he was behind her, occasionally stopping to say hello to people. It surprised him how early people got up on the planet, half expecting people to fall into a routine, but then, they’d all adjusted to space, and that would take time to come back from. Perhaps it was the natural light, which was most definitely increasing, that had people waking up.
They walked for a while, both of them casting idle conversation at each other to fill the time. It was nice, sort of, to talk about simple things, things that held no real consequence. It wasn't like before when they often had to talk about their next strategic move, next crisis or drama. The chatter was navigated based on the desire for conversation versus the necessity for work. What Bill loved about it, was just how relaxed she seemed, and even though she should never have lost the Presidency, she was still taking everything in her stride.
"Just up here is a nice crop of weed," Laura pointed, turning her head to offer Bill a knowing gaze, her eyes sparkling beneath the haze of morning, smirking playfully.
Fond memories passed between them without the need for words. Bill remembered the first time he’d come down to the surface to spend some time with her. Regardless of what he’d said was the reason for his visit, the groundbreaking ceremony, it had primarily been because he’d wanted to see how she was doing, and also to fill the hole she’d managed to leave behind when she’d decided to settle on the planet. They’d had an amazing evening, existed as people, explored the area, and each other, and it had been a heavy instigator into his need to feel land beneath his feet as often as he could allow. It had made him think about his future, their future, and how things could be better. Flashes of her laugh, her red dress, her drunken-stoned confessions, her hands, and her lips all flashed in his mind’s eye. “Do you still have a stash?” he asked, half-joking in his enquiry, blinking away the image of her lying beneath him.
“Why? Looking to get a little buzzed on your day off?” Laura half-joked, looking over her shoulder with a wide smile.
“I would if I could,” Bill offered, a tinge of sadness in his voice. It was just a day off, not enough to really let himself go long enough to entertain it like before. “I need to head back up tonight.”
Laura nodded, her facial expression souring subtly, disappointment flashing before being hidden by a forced smile. “I know.”
They remained quiet for a while after that, both of them lost in thoughts of the other, thinking about the last time they’d been able to let go in each other’s presence. It had been a wild night, well, for them at least, and they’d both been able to remove layers to the other, like onions, exposing the person beneath the facade that they’d been working with for so long. They’d gotten glimpses, little breadcrumbs, over the months in space, but it had been so nice to really experience life as a person.
"This is a lot further than I'd assumed," Bill stated flatly, ignoring the burn in his calves as he tried to maintain his pace up the hill. Perhaps he’d overestimated his fitness, utilising the gym every now and then, but not really putting in as much effort as he should.
"Is the Admiral struggling?" Laura called over her shoulder as she reached the peak of the hill they were climbing.
"No, the Admiral isn't struggling," he countered firmly like a stubborn child, hoisting the backpack on his shoulders a little higher. Even without seeing her face, he knew that she was grinning, the chiding playful tone in her voice telling him that she was teasing, and he couldn’t help but allow a smile to spread across his face in response as he shook his head.
The walk wasn’t challenging, not really, and it felt nice to be able to get his blood pumping in the fresh crisp air. Even though his legs were crying for relief, used to the artificial gravity and flat surfaces of Galactica, it was good to feel the burn of exercise, and as he broke over the top of the ridge, he could see why she’d taken him up there, his eyes growing wide as he stared out at the beautiful landscape ahead of him.
Twisting slightly to catch Laura’s smug expression, he could see the flush to her cheeks, the healthy sheen of sweat that made her glow. It made him feel a little uncomfortable, not because it was horrible, but because it was enamouring to see her looking so natural and unburdened. Flashes of their last night together filtered through again, the softness of her skin, the way her hips felt beneath his hands, and the way he’d tasted the saltiness of her sweat as he’d kissed up her neck.
“Beat you,” Laura chuckled as she temporarily removed the backpack from her shoulders, giving herself a reprieve, she could see the expression on Bill’s face change.
When Bill shifted his eyes to land ahead of him, he could see huge rugose mounds of rock in the distance, their tips reaching towards the clouds in uneven placements. From where he stood, they were like big daunting giants, splashes of white at the peaks that made them stand out against the early morning sky. This place seemed so much more vibrant and alive in comparison to the settlement, the trees a little lusher as they cascaded out in asymmetrical rows that trailed off into the distance like pointed green arrows. It was much rockier than he’d expected, and he knew that it wouldn't make a great landscape to farm on, but it didn’t make it any less brilliant.
“It’s not too much further,” Laura confirmed as she raised her finger to point to the bottom of the canyon. “If you look over there, you can see the water that I mentioned.”
Bill could see a small space at the bottom that was relatively flat in comparison to everything else, a piece of land that lay next to a moving body of water that caught the light of the rising sun and made it appear like shimmering diamonds. He could see the appeal.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?”
When Bill turned back to her to agree, he had to stop himself from saying anything as he looked at her. The early morning sun had shifted from muted pastels and greys to bright oranges and yellows. As she stood side-on, the light reflecting off of her face, giving her a warm glow like an ember in a fire, he couldn’t help but feel thankful for her presence in his life. Something so beautiful had come out of a tragic and horrible event that had ended their worlds. Without it, though, as bad as it may sound, he’d never have her around, and that in itself was something he could never comprehend without feeling a huge pang of sadness. Perhaps one day he’d settle down on the planet, and if he was lucky, carve out a life with her if she’d allow it. “Really beautiful,” he replied, not talking about the landscape.
When Laura connected with his eyes, she could see something flickering there that made her hold her breath. The softness in his eyes, the familiar warmth of his evaluating expression, told her everything that she needed to know. The man wasn’t talking about the landscape. It made her blush, the heat rising up from her neck to her forehead as she offered him a coy smile. “Come on,” she offered. “Let’s get going.”
They walked side by side down the hill, and Bill noted that the descent seemed to take a little longer than he’d anticipated. Perhaps it was because he was being extra careful, or because they were thoroughly enjoying each other's company, their shoulders occasionally connecting as they walked. Laura seemed less bothered by the scattered and uneven surface of the rocks beneath her feet, but she held back to walk with him, smiling at him every now and then.
“Ooft,” he heard after a thud, and when he turned his head he couldn’t see the bundle of auburn hair at his side. “Laura?” he queried, turning on his feet to look down where he could see her sitting on her backside with her hand on her ankle looking bemused.
“I didn’t pay enough attention to that last group of stones I was walking over,” she said through a grimace as she gently rubbed the edges of her ankle. “Frak,” she groaned, raising her eyes to him to see a mixture of amusement and concern.
Bill squatted down at her side and lifted her foot up by the boot so he could gently wriggle it off. “Does it really hurt?” he asked as the boot came free.
Laura shrugged at first, attempting to wiggle her foot from side to side, but quickly recoiled as the pain shot up through her leg. “You could say that,” she said through a partial laugh and yelp.
“We should get you back to Cottle so he can have a look. It’s probably just a sprain, but it’s best to be safe.” Bill got back to his feet and offered out both of his hands so he could pull her upwards.
“No. We’ve gotten this far, and it’s only just down there. I’ll manage, it might just take a little longer than usual. It’s a shame to have come this way, to make the effort, and go back just as we’ve got there. The rest will do me good down there. I can put my foot in the water. It’s cold. It’ll help reduce any swelling.”
When she grabbed his hand, Bill planted both of his feet and dug in, pulling her forward so he could gently raise her upwards. “I don’t want you to do any further damage to yourself,” he replied, not being able to help but smile when she gave him a scowl. “Ok, fine. But we won’t stay long. The last thing I want is to be stuck out here when it gets dark.”
“We have hours,” she answered coolly, grabbing his shoulder for stability as she adjusted herself on one leg so she could keep her other off of the ground. “I also,” she paused, her voice getting a little softer. “I don’t know when you’ll next be down here, and I really wanted to show it to you.”
The sadness in her words didn’t go undetected, and he nodded before scooping his arm around her back to give her some support. “So stubborn,” he joked, appreciating the way the pads of her fingers grazed over the skin of his neck as she held onto it.
“You wouldn’t want me any other way.”
Bill laughed through his nose and nodded. There was nothing that he would change about her. Nothing at all.
One step at a time, slowly at first so they could get a rhythm, they walked downwards. Laura did her best to hop over stones and rocks, using Bill as an anchor when things got a little uneven. It was slow going. On a few occasions, she nearly lost her balance, and if Bill hadn’t been there to hold onto her, his hand hooked beneath her arm, she would have landed on her backside again.
It was nice to spend time with Laura, but it hadn’t been what he’d anticipated really, and at the rate they were going, he’d have to get her back up the hill and back to camp as soon as they got to the water. As he turned to look at her, watching her scowl at the floor as she kept an eye on her footing, he suddenly had an idea. “Here,” Bill said, stopping in his tracks to take his backpack off. “I have an idea.”
“You’re not going to call for a raptor, are you?” she side-eyed him suspiciously, wondering if he had some sort of communication device in his backpack.
Waiting for her to stabilise herself on her feet before he let go, Bill shook his head and grinned. “No,” he chuckled. “I’m going to carry you.”
“What!” she exasperated with wide eyes, doing her best not to lose her balance as she glared at him with defiance. “That is not going to happen. You’re not going to carry me in your arms all the way down there,” she flicked her hand outwards for dramatic effect, but immediately regretted it when she almost fell backwards.
“I’m not going to carry you in my arms,” he shrugged, taking his backpack and putting it on the front of his body. “I’m going to carry you on my back.”
The smug smile that Bill was offering Laura had her momentarily bemused. Then, as she let the idea settle in, she thought it would be quite nice to use Bill as a horse. The idea of riding Bill made her head pop, and she almost had to stop herself from laughing out loud when she realised she’d technically already done that. “So, you’re going to be my packhorse then?”
“A packhorse?” he exclaimed with raised eyebrows and mock indignation. “You mean the President’s trusty steed?”
“Something like that,” she smirked. “Although horses neigh, don’t they?”
“Yeah, neigh do,” he offered with a deadpan tone.
“That was AWFUL,” she scoffed through a laugh, shaking her head in disbelief. “Although, no one has ever done that for me before.”
Bill loved seeing her laugh. There was something about the way that her whole face lit up, how her body bobbed as her throaty chuckle filled the air like music. It was so good to see her happy. “Come on then,” he finally said, turning around so his back was facing her. “You need to jump, but not too hard or you’ll send the pair of us flying.”
After two failed attempts, one where Laura accidentally punched him in the head as she tried to hook her hands around his neck, she managed to get on his back. It had been hard to get enough leverage with only one leg to get her up. “Am I sitting right?”
“Yeah. No sudden movement. I’ll be as careful as possible. It shouldn’t take long.”

as i had promised before, finally im writing a post about my thoughts on catcf
sorry it's quite messed up, i'm gonna talk about a lot of things, compare the movie to the book and their takes on the characters and their fate. also i'd like to remind that it's all entirely subjective and based on my feelings only!! also i have seen the movie and read the book in russian translation so might have missed some details lost in translation. sorry if anything offends you, i didn't intend it and im open to discussions ,,,
AUGUSTUS GLOOP he didn't seem to have much time and personality both in the book and in the movie? wasn't his only character trait and only vice that he eats a lot? (my highest kin) what did he even do wrong? he was told that everything in the room was edible so he actually started eating everything? what a crime in the movie they tried to fix him or exactly make him worse and showed him being mean to charlie; but the oompaloompas don't criticize him for that but instead for being FAT AND STUPID!!!! i don't think he was that deserving his fate especially comparing him to other kids, but at the same time his punishment seemed the lightest? sure he was scared when he was sucked into the pipe, but in the end he seemed to be happy? he didn't end up that traumatized and even managed to enjoy some chocolate
VIOLET BEAUREGARD when i watched the movie for the first time, i wondered why her song shows her as a bad person not because of her competitiveness, arrogance or obsession with victory but.... for chewing too much gum?? the book gave me the answer to this question: book violet doesn't have almost any personality aside her chewing gum addiction; it was mentioned that she holds a record for chewing gum but it wasn't really emphasized? so i liked how they developed this part of violet in the movie making her obsessed with competitions and prizes, while leaving some details showing it's the pressure of her family which forced her to be like that. she's still a grotesque caricature supposed to be annoying but she's a much more colourful (?) and memorable character there imo.
VERUCA SALT such a cute and annoying at the same time spoiled material gurrrrl both in the movie and the book i love her portrayal sm. also i like how her song showcases that her parents are responsible for spoiling her and they share the same punishment and that episode in the movie when she befriended violet with a nasty smile . such an iconic moment i adored it
MIKE TEAVEE i adored him hes such a funny little brat!!! but his song with the whole "television bad books good" message is understandable in the book but when you hear it in a MOVIE youre watching ON THE TV that makes no sense btw i like how in the book they showcase the problem of parents who ignore their children and would rather let them spend all day in front of the tv than communicate with them. that implies mike has some family issues as well too bad it wasn't shown in the movie
WILLY WONKA book and movie versions of wonka are quite different but i love them both equally willy is such an amazing character :c book wonka seems to be just an easygoing guy in a constant silly goofy mood who actually cares about the children but just lets it slide as he knows they won't be harmed? movie wonka on the other hand seems more whimsy and cursed??? he appears creepy and threatening, with some sadistic vibes even, and behind his appearance of a funny eccentric mememan making cannibalism jokes, he hides SUFFERING and deep childhood traumas i liked how they made wonka's character more deep and dramatic, but the question is - does a character like him really need this tragic backstory? what does this twist add to the whole story? i shall return to this question a bit later
CHARLIE BUCKET book charlie is sweet but looks like he was supposed to be an unpersonalized character so that every reader could associate him with themselves... so hes a bit bland and lacks some individuality imo :c sure we see his generosity (hes willing to share his chocolate with his starving family) and kindness (he's worried about what will happen to other kids - i almost cannot remember that in the movies) but through the course of the plot he does almost nothing but feeling qUeEr fEeLinGs about the wonders of the factory and not getting himself into trouble in the book there's no problem in bringing all charlie's relatives to the factory - so he doesn't face the dilemma of leaving his family to become the heir of the factory or staying with his loved ones. but in the movie that's a major problem and a whole new plotline! we can see charlie's doubts and insecurity, wonka's contradictive feelings taking him over, find out the reasons behind wonka's rejection of family - and it's charlie who helps him. this plotline is even more important for charlie's character development rather than wonka: we see charlie in action, we see how caring he is, how much he is willing to sacrifice for his family, see his sincere desire to help wonka feel happier... the final scene gives such a warm feeling it sends me to tears,,,,, finally willy wonka is not alone...
FINAL THOUGHTS speaking about the message of the story? i felt that the book told that one must be kind and generous to reach happiness? the movie sure has that idea too but it's sorta more focused on the importance of family and not being alone?" once again im unsure about the book :c tbh as the protagonist doesn't have much of a personality and actions, it seemed to me at times that the message is one must be rule-following and not getting into trouble ?? also replace tv and chewing gum with youtube and idk energy drinks - and it can easily turn into a conservative pamphlet on how the new generation is bad and amoral - but it doesn't seem like one thanks to the genius of roald dahl!! his manner of writing and sense of humour is fantastic so in conclusion i prefer the movie to the book (for the first time in my life ahhahha) but idk if they're actually worth being compared ... and of course i don't think the book is worse or anything - it's just not really my cup of tea i guess? though i still enjoyed it a lot and had a great time reading it ^^
thank you for attention!!! if you think i was wrong in some aspects feel free to correct me ,, and once again id like to remind that it's not some kind of analysis just my personal thoughts and feelings and it may differ from yours have a nice day!

Thanks for the tags: @nausikaaa, @captain-aralias, @raenestee, @angelsfalling16, @you-remind-me-of-the-babe, @aristocratic-otter, @bookish-bogwitch and @fight-surrender
Relationship Status:
Happily in a relationship with someone I've known for more than half my life. We were friends for six or seven years, maybe, before having our "something to talk about" epiphany.
Favorite Colour:
Red. (For clothes and possessions)
Favorite food:
I used to be a butter and cheese enthusiast, but sadly, no longer.
So my favorite food is bread. Fresh, fluffy, yeasty, yum. And dark chocolate.
Chocolate chip cookies (made with dark chocolate and margarine) are my favorite dessert.
Song stuck in your head:
There's a song called "Whispers of the Heart" that's been haunting me nonstop for three days. I think it has the lyrics, "country roads, take me home".
Why is this in my head? Remember @foolofabookwyrm-activated made the top tier Rick Roll playlist? There was an orchestral version by Vitamin String Quartet. I was up late on Saturday night editing my chapter and thought I'd check out more of their instrumental pop covers. The last song before I went to bed was Whispers of the Heart and my brain got stuck on loop and I fell asleep with it and woke up with it and here we are today, despite the fact that I only know maybe eleven words of the lyrics.
Someone in my house is singing Sink the Bismark, so that may dislodge and become the new earworm winner (Please please please).
Last thing you googled:
Lyrics to Sink the Bismarck by Johnny Horton
Lots of Victorian period photographs and engraving for COTTA, including but not limited to period ladies' glasses, ladies' hairstyles for curly hair, cross-dressing and long hair for men
Time:
16:04pm
Dream trip:
Costa Rica. Especially for a tree top adventure. Or hang gliding.
Last book you read:
Sharkmartini's fanfic series On the Relativity of Time. Okay, it's not the last book, but I read this and love it and just keep thinking about it.
Last book you enjoyed:
I enjoyed rereading Boyfriend Material to get ready for the release of Husband Material. I think I liked it better this time than the first time.
Last book I hated reading:
I didn't hate it, but I rolled my eyes a lot through Dangerous Alliance: An Austentacious Romance  by Jennieke Cohen. It seemed every chapter had this same sentence, "She bit her lip." Although occasionally she bit the inside of her cheek. But I kept reading anyway and tried to figure out what made the phrase so jarring and how this author could have rephrased it to be less repetitive.
Favorite thing to cook/bake:
I love cooking and baking. Right now I'm learning a lot about vegetarian cooking. One major difference is that you need a lot more spice and aromatics to make up for the loss of meat flavour. My spice cabinet is getting more interesting.
Favorite craft to do in free time:
I doodle. All the time and everywhere. Pencil and pen doodles cover the margins of my notebooks and bills and any scrap paper. As a hobby, I like painting. I'm handy with most types of crafts. And when the temperature drops I like to have a knitting project to keep my hands busy.
Most niche dislikes:
Blerg. I must have some. I'm sure I thought of one. What was it?
Is it niche to get mad at people who are not celiacs and want to cut bread out because someone told them that it will solve every health problem? Bread is glorious. I'll never let you say mean words about my good friend, bread.
Opinion on circuses, now and in history:
If I'm going to spend my money, it's not going to be on a circus. I'd rather go to see live music, or watch a play or musical. I'd enjoy a drag show or maybe burlesque. I'd even take the opera or ballet before the circus.
Circuses in history have been abusive to animals. Who's going to have a positive opinion about that?
Do you have a sense of direction, and if not what is the worst way you’ve gotten lost:
I've got a fairly good sense of direction. I like maps, but not so much GPS. If I use GPS directions then my brain stops making a mental map. I've gotten lost mostly because I tire of taking the same route and will mix things up at random.
Most of the time I enjoy getting lost, so I had to really think of a worst time. Okay, once I was driving to my aunt's cottage and everyone else in the car was sleeping so I decided to get off the highway and take a scenic route. I got hopelessly lost and was out of cell range. I made it there more than an hour late and tired and frazzled while the other car occupants were refreshed and ready to go. Ugh.

Oh Stanley, you didn't just activate the controls, did you?
After they kept you enslaved all these years, you go and you try to take control of the machine for yourself, is that want you wanted? Control?
Oh...Stanley. *sigh* I applaud your effort, I really do, but you need to understand; there's only so much that machine can do.
You were supposed to let it go, turn the controls off, and leave.
If you want to throw my story off track, you're gonna have to do much better than that. I'm afraid you don't have nearly the power you think you do; for example, and I believe you'll find this pertinent:
Stanley suddenly realized that he had just initiated the network's emergency detonation system. In the event that this machine is activated without proper DNA identification, nuclear detonators are set to explode, eliminating the entire complex.
How long until detonation, then? Hmm...let's say, um...two minutes.
Ah, now this is making things a little more fun, isn't it, Stanley? It's your time to shine! You are the star! It's your story now; shape it to your heart's desires.
Ooh, this is much better than what I had in mind! What a shame we have so little time left to enjoy it.
Mere moments until the bomb goes off, but what precious moments each one of them is! More time to talk about you, about me, where we're going, what this all means...I barely know where to start!
What's that? You'd like to know where your co-workers are? A moment of solace before you're obliterated?
Alright. I'm in a good mood. You're going to die anyway. I'll tell you exactly what happened to them: I erased them. I turned off the machine; I set you free.
Of course, that was merely in this instance of the story. Sometimes when I tell it, I simply let you sit there in your office forever, pushing buttons endlessly and then dying alone. Other times, I let the office sink into the ground, swallowing everyone inside; or I let it burn to a crisp.
I have to say this, though, this version of events has been rather amusing. Watching you try to make sense of everything and take back the control wrested away from you...it's quite rich. I almost hate to see it go!
But I'm sure whatever I come up with on the next go around will be even better.
My goodness! Only 34 seconds left...but I'm enjoying this so much! You know what? To hell with it. I'm going to put some extra time on the clock; why not!
These are precious additional seconds, Stanley. Time doesn't grow on trees!
Oh, dear me, what's the matter, Stanley? Is is that you have no idea where you are going or what you're supposed to be doing right now? Or did you just assume when you saw that timer that something in this room is capable of turning it off?
I mean, look at you, running from button to button, screen to screen, clicking on every little thing in this room! These numbered buttons! No! These coloured ones! Or maybe this big, red button! Or this door! Everything! Anything! Something here will save me!
Why would you think that, Stanley? That this video game can be beaten, won, solved? Do you have any idea what your purpose in this place is? Hahaha, heh, Stanley...you're in for quite a disappointment.
But here's a spoiler for you: that timer isn't a catalyst to keep the action moving along. It's just seconds ticking away to your death. You're only still playing instead of watching a cutscene because I want to watch you for every moment that you're powerless, to see you made humble.
This is not a challenge. It's a tragedy. You wanted to control this world; that's fine. But I'm going to destroy it first, so you can't.
Take a look at the clock, Stanley. That's 30 seconds you have left to struggle. Thirty seconds until a big boom, and then nothing. No ending here, just you being blown to pieces. Will you cling desperately to your frail life, or will you let it go peacefully?
Another choice! Make it count. Or don't. It's all the same to me. All a part of the joke. And believe me, I will be laughing at every second of your inevitable life, from the moment we fade in until the moment I say: Happily Ever Af-
(explosion cuts him off)

Long thought post.
Tldr: Good song and MV. Graphics are nice but somewhat disappointed at how safe it is.
Firstly I quite like the fact that the group is only four members because if it got bigger than that I don't think that it would have any good chance at lasting because of the costs of the cg.
I've only listened to the song once whilst I watched the MV and it is in my head already. That being said I'm a bit disappointed, let me elaborate.
So even from the promotional pictures, mainly the box of Pandora's box was very aespa-esque. Which is fine, kpop is notorious for 'heavy' inspiration to put it politely so it didn't bother me but it did set the tone of what to aexpect (yes lame pun lol). For example Aespa's ae versions look like cheaper LoL K/DA models, which is jarring at times but because they aren't all of aespa it doesn't have a negative impact. Btw not saying I hate ae's, I especially love Naevis, but as I've mentioned (I think) before, I wish they had a different art direction.
I will say MAVE'S models are a lot better in every way which is refreshing. Kind of like Saejin from SUPERKIND but though his model is good it's also quite static. Then again they are a smaller company so it's understandable but overall I'm happy with the graphics.
My personal taste wishes that they looked more fantastical. Maybe bigger eyes, coloured hair and that high fantasy goes into the music too which I'll get into later. The reason why I wish it was more OTT, is because I'm extra but mainly because it can come across as a gimmick. Like they're just non tired robots doing the same thing as real people can do but are limited by their coding. Like just do the same MV but with a green screen and it might even be cooler with real people.
Anyway I don't have an issue with AI. I know the waters are muddy but I'm a gamer, and every year graphics get closer to looking human. Which is fascinating and terrifying.
But for me as long as you can tell its not real like I guess with more anime styles and etc look I'm quite happy. I think if they also had a less human look it would give more immersion to them in the fact that in 5-10 years they could look dated and not in a good way. Like with any experimental media you either have aged well or poorly. Only media with a uniqueness or charm can both be aged well and poorly at the same time. Like cult and campy content.
Now onto the song. I do like it because well it's in my head after one listen and I've been typing this just after I watched the MV! But as I've said (in a way) it's just okay. Like when I hear 'New GG AI' my mind gets excited for the future. This MV was very much now future. So it's cool and pretty but yawningly safe.
Rather than an aespa, K/DA combo, I'd have loved a Dreamcatcher, LOONA, onlyoneof combo. Dystopian, high fantasy and allure.
Still for a debut it was good even though the down dance move was way too close to black mamba for my liking. And that's the only issue I have. Like yeah of course with everything art/dance moves are not only for one group or person but you can tell when it's ahem 'heavily inspired'.
I'd also love if they grow a stronger identity than just mix of aespa and K/DA. Like K/DA is great because its has Queen Soyeon and Miyeon with other great artists and a world already built to steer their vision and on Aespa's side they have a growing world with trained idols that bring that excitement to the real stage. Both have amazing music. Mave needs to get a signature visual and sound to push them into a truly innovate group.
Still if the company can keep up with the graphics, music and potential world building if any I'm interested. As long as its not we are being hacked by a giant spider or something and buy 'our bit coins for photocards' or some nonsense haha.
Lastly if they could keep the majority or merch online that would be awesome and hopefully they are paying the voices behind the members a good salary. The cg idols wouldn't be alive without their human voices after all.
🗒Notes: As usual I might add more later and there is probably some spelling and grammar mistakes.

Gina.
When a loved one dies, it's so common to hear of how kind, selfless and brilliant they are. It's so easy to say, despite it not always being true. But with Gina, all of that— and more— is true. She did light up every room she walked into with her infectious laugh and big smile. She did put everybody else before herself, she did have room in her heart for everybody she met. As I watched Gina's mum, brothers and dad talk about her today, I realised we all got the same version of her; whether the interaction was brief or lifelong.
I met Gina when I switched schools at 13, and I can honestly, wholeheartedly say that my first impression of her was that she was a good person. She didn't judge, she was genuinely interested in what everybody had to say, she didn't bicker or bitch. Because Gina loved everybody and we all loved her too. And we still do— my friends from school and I have banded together, some of us talking again for the first time in years, because we love our friend.
When I found out Gina died, I was sitting on a bench, on my lunch break at work. It was sunny, and I remember that because I cowered away from both the sun and any prying eyes. When I got the initial message, it didn't even sink in that it was her my friend was talking about. I wracked my brain for every older person I knew, wondering who the fuck was dead and why I was being told with such urgency and panic. When it finally hit me that we were talking about Gina, I screamed, in public, and hyperventilated. I didn't go back into work that day, instead wandering around falling in and out of very public and very visible panic attacks, too scared to get on a bus and go home, a lot like the person I was when I met her. Most of that day is a blur to me now.
Today, I went back to that same bench to watch a livestream of the funeral. It was raining, which typically would have been fitting had Gina not been the embodiment of sunshine. I wore a yellow and purple bracelet, the colours of the funeral dress code, with her initial on. I listened to monologues from family and a version of Hallelujah sung by mutual school friends. For the most part, I couldn't watch, often finding myself staring at nothing, trying to make sense of why a 25 year old should be dead. It doesn't make sense and I don't think it ever will. Let me be clear: this was a tragedy.
Gina, I have always hugely credited you in how I became the person I am today. Ever evolving, but I'd like to think morally sound. I had such a big problem with God and religion among other things when we first crossed paths. I was so angry. I thought every religious person was a bad person. But you were the embodiment of good and your faith knew no bounds. Not only did you never judge, but you embraced me. Through you, I learned that stark differences can, and should co-exist. I learned that there is joy to be found in small, mundane things. I learned that a creative path should always, always be followed, as should worldly aventures. I learned that we are all the same.
It's hard to think of a way to end this because how the fuck do you say goodbye to your friends in your twenties? I don't know where you are, I don't know what's true and what isn't. I have no faith to comfort me, so I will directly quote your family on this: Rest in everlasting peace.
You were too good not to last forever.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)
Tumblr media
Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! has been adapted for the big screen twice now and the results have never even come close to matching the beautiful simplicity of the 1966 TV special we all know and love. It’s the perfect musical story to get the spirit of the holiday started.
Narrated by Boris Karloff, it’s the story of The Grinch, a hairy green who-knows-what that lives North of Who-Ville and hates Christmas. Determined to ruin the holiday for everyone, The Grinch disguises himself as Santa Claus and descends to the home of the Whos on the night of Christmas Eve to steal every decoration, stocking & present.
I don’t even need to tell you about the songs featured throughout this TV special. You already know them. In fact, you’ve accomplished the impossible if you haven’t heard You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch at least once, every single December. That song's lyrics are particularly, wonderfully peculiar and original. The imagery in the rhymes fills your head with smells, textures and colours. If you haven’t memorized them already, you’ll want to so you can describe your least favorite person as a “seasick crocodile”, a "black banana with a greasy black peel" or a “nasty-wasty skunk”.
Matching the immaculate wordplay are terrific sight gags and visuals. The Grinch’s twisted smile - the most twisted, evil smile you’ve ever seen - speaks volumes about his noxious intentions toward the holiday. The way he slinks and slithers through the Who's houses, gleefully ripping decorations off the walls, stuffing presents into his sack and going out of his way to make sure no one will have any joy come morning is so over-the-top you’ve got to laugh. The illustrations in the book by Theodor Seuss Geisel have been brought to life perfectly. It's so well done, in fact, that the idea of someone having a go at it again… feels like pure foolishness. How could you improve upon this?
Well, if you really want to scrutinize things, you could find aspects of the special to improve. For instance, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" recycles quite a bit of its footage. It would have also been nice if the budget had allowed for shading instead of flat colours on every character. Oddly, I find this adds to the film's charm. It shows that, people didn't know this production was going to become a yearly tradition for so many people. They didn't go in looking for ways to make it into a franchise, they didn't record the songs hoping they would be hits. It was made solely to be the best version of itself. The results speak for themselves. How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is so effective it’s only through obsessive watching and re-watching that you notice the blemishes.
The immortal songs, iconic images, and clever rhymes of the narration (brought to life by Boris Karloff’s unforgettable voice) all come together at the end to deliver a wholesome, heartfelt message that will resonate with all audiences. If you did somehow manage not to hear some excerpts of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! before December 25th, I'm not sure it would feel like Christmas. (On Blu-ray, December 21, 2019)
