That person's attempt to smear the roleplayer's rules is astonishing, sheesh. I wanted to thank you for dispelling it, and say I agree with your reply! Because I had similar rules once upon a time.

Basically, I did collaborative writing for over 15 years. In the end, I had a rules page that was fairly no-nonsense too. Mainly because over that time, I met hundreds of people with various quirks. Some partners were very incompatible with me, and I quickly learned the reasons why, but others stuck around and we hit it off really well, and I learned the reasons for that, too. Over time, those bits and pieces of knowledge made it into my rules. Specifically... I block people if they expose me to dumb drama. I don't do public url shaming because of the dirty laundry aspect. And I don't do purity culture bullshit. I avoid people with DNI lists in general, because those lists are usually just performative bullshit. And I only write with people who tend to be descriptive, because I love description and hate one-liners; it doesn't feed my imagination or fulfill me as a writer or reader. It's also pretty soul-sucking if I write 3,000 words and someone gives me a single line that isn't even 10 words back, haha. I also tried to write with multiple partners who'd only ever written one-liners and tiny paras, and they expected me to teach them how to write novellas on the fly. I was like, how on earth would I have the time or energy for that?! Am I getting paid?! I just want to write, without also feeling like I had to keep tabs on someone else's writing, too. It wasn't long before that became a rule - I couldn't teach people how to write longform stuff. I just didn't have the capacity. And that's just how these rules are born. It's not malicious, it just happens with experience and knowing your own limits, and being responsible enough to articulate them for others.

Anyways, informing a possible roleplay partner about these things is not a fucking "friendship contract" like OP implied. It's a courtesy. A heads-up along the lines of, "we're doing collaborative writing, and investing a lot of time into this. The least we can do is ensure things go smoothly, and ensure we're on the same page about our preferences, our overall sensibilities, and what we want to achieve with our characters and our writing." Because some of these collabs last years. OP wants to talk about something being a contract? I've seen rules that were super nasty, demanding, and micromanaging to the point of making you wonder how the person even functioned. The OOP doesn't come close to that. I've even seen a rules page that was 15,000 words, and it took me a whole damn evening to read through it. But even that wasn't a contract, or nasty. The person had memory issues due to a disability, and most of the page was explaining their complex tagging system, and telling people what to expect when they were writing together. Could they have chopped it in half? Maybe. But it, like OOP, isn't worthy of ridicule.

My own rules page never became overbearing, but it did become more informative for possible partners, and that was helpful for everyone in the end. It saved us so much time, and it helped me find so many amazing partners - people who had very similar mindsets to my own! Knowing that, the person in the screen cap is definitely not alone; I could pull up ten names who have the same kind of rules page right now, and who made it that way for precisely the same reasons I did. And I'm sure I could find ten more within minutes, because any roleplayer who's been around for long enough will have boundaries like the above ones, or more. Of course, sometimes even other roleplayers (usually ones who are very green to the scene) will balk at these rules, but it's essentially because they're uninformed (like OP and the other commenters in that post), and they haven't experienced what the more seasoned roleplayers have. They act like it's overkill but as time goes on, most of them will ultimately adopt the same stuff, lol. I've seen it happen.

As for the other stuff, yeah, it's all just basic blog and follower maintenance. Most roleplayers dislike having mutuals they don't actively interact and roleplay with, because it's inefficient, and they especially don't like following someone who isn't even following them back, because most of the time, it means they won't be able to write with that person.

Of course, I don't roleplay any more because of all the anti bullshit, but yeah. People like OP submitter can meet me in the damn pit, I'm old and I have zero fucks to give when it comes to defending sensible communication in the RPC. Which is all OOP is doing. There should be more of that.

Thanking him, you sling your legs over his lap as Steve comes to sit beside you so you can lean against him. Halfway through the movie, the metalhead lays down and hugs your legs to his chest as you play with his hair. Laughing when you hear soft snores, you turn to Steve so you both could tease him only to find he had fallen asleep to. His arm was draped over your chest as his head hung back over the sofa.

You felt like you wanted to cry as ran your hands delicately over them both. You had spent most of your dating life in and out of awful relationships. How had you been so blinded to the two men right in front of you?

Smiling to yourself, you closed your eyes and fell asleep in their embrace wishing you could pause this moment so the three of you could stay like this forever.

(long post about purgatory and meta and rp)

sigh one thing ive been thinking is that it feels a bit unfair to see so many people complaining or doomposting over how purgatory affects the overarching qsmp rp story or how it ~interrupted arcs~ or is ~disturbing current storylines~ or ~narratively unsatisfying~ like. Sure. its a bit abrupt and most players were caught off guard because lore-wise it stems from the federation which means none of them were told about anything beforehand

but... its only been three days. maybe we could have a little faith? like idk ill be soooooo out there rn and say that maybe the admins did this now for a reason. maybe itll make sense later on. we already see lore repercussions with elquackity and his motives and all the nods to the eggs.

theres fair criticism to be made (when done respectfully) if youre mainly here for the roleplay but i feel like we sometimes need to remind ourselves that the qsmp storytelling is a VERY ambitious project. lmao. imagine being the writing team and trying to wrangle 20+ characters with distinct points of view and journeys on an ever-changing story because of the very nature of live rp. its practically IMPOSSIBLE to tie up every loose end neatly and at this point i dont think we should expect that. keeping up momentum with all plotlines must also be pretty hard, cc's schedules and outside factors like server programming and building and mod tweaking and all those meta elements considered and so on and so on

i DO also want the story to move forward and be cohesive and make sense in a satisfactory way. like i really do!!!!!!! but i try to understand that thats not ALL the qsmp is about. from the start quackity said the server wouldn't be exclusive to the rp aspect. it sure is that way right now, but thats because most of the active members are VERY passionate about roleplaying. thats a good thing! they have fun and its fun to watch and the experience is mostly good for everyone because it corresponds to their expectations to an extent

the thing about purgatory is that i feel like its a lot more meta than most people doomposting realize. it ties into the story, sure, but to me it feels like the sudden switch in environment and vibes and stakes isnt actually catered to the rp and thats FINE. like thats not what it exists for and thats fineeeeeee

pac for one has said he appreciates the event for the change of pace, though its very hard (lol), because regular qsmp was starting to feel a bit stale to him and he was kind of running out of things to do. THATS A GREAT THING! managing player engagement like that is awesome and sometimes necessary. YES, purgatory caters to a very different playstyle than what we're used to -- and thats one of its strenghts.

a lot of hispanic creators have also felt this!!!! roier, rivers and carre most prominently have been VERY excited about this event because its similar in format to a lot of spanish speaking events like mc extremo and such. a lot of these players are also not particularly interested in rp-ing and had not been logging on very often prior to purgatory.

even roleplay regulars like tubbo, fit and bbh have shown interest in purgatory for the competitive nature of the setting!!! thats cool too!!!! something different, new possibilities to play around with. thats what the events should be about. kudos to the admins and dev teams for attempting it in such a big scale. their effort shows and all the mechanics weve seen are really fucking cool

i love the roleplay!!!!!! its one of my favorite parts of the qsmp!!!!!! but its not ALL there is and it shouldnt be! non rp-oriented creators are also part of the project and deserve to have a little fun too -- not to mention a big chunk of the hispanic fan community that has blown up twitter with support bc what we have rn is similar to events they already love!!!!!!! im glad to see so many of them get excited again!!!!!!

at the end of the day, qsmp is a LONG long term project, and purgatory ends in two weeks. by the time its over, we can all choose to engage with it as we wish. it can be a big filler episode in your mind, if you want. it can be just for fun..... otherwise, if its not fun, your regularly scheduled qsmp will be back soon anyway :3 its fine to not like it, its fine to have something negative to say about it if properly tagged and not like. crazy entitled or blown out of proportion for what this situation is.

i just hope we can all manage our online experiences accordingly and avoid making things less enjoyable for each other. this is supposed to be fun

As someone who had been part of the creepypasta fandom since 2012, I agree with anon. I see SO much BS now that I never had to deal with until now. People apparently can't have head cannons anymore; you can't like so and so or the classic hate against AU's. As someone older, I do not care. This is supposed to be fun for everyone. I'm not letting some 12–15-year-old tell me how to enjoy myself. Also Gatekeeping is just cringe.

Really ?!? When I was 9-11 on qoutev reading fics/roleplaying, I remember people were really mean about anything that wasn’t “canon” (whatever that means at this point) and being really mean to “Mary sues” and self inserts .. Nowadays I feel like everyone I meet is like “yeah my AU is like this, but I like how your AU does this!” LOL

I think the biggest gatekeeping issue I see nowadays is “they’re killers!!! They’re cold hearted and this is supposed to be the SCARY FANDOM!!! If you make them anything other than horrifying monstrous creatures, you’re stupid and lame and boring and a child!” And the realism vs fanon vs canon etc debate.. but I literally couldn’t care less like this fandom was built on anime boy jeff the killer x readers you cannot convince me otherwise

I wish there was a better way to distinguish creepypasta (the scary stories) from the creepypasta fandom (the characters and relationships and comics and animations and cosplay etc etc)

Anyway that’s just my experience but I hope that u guys are able to find good healthy circles of people who embrace new interpretations and creative story telling and interesting designs and all! That’s the best part of this fandom and what makes it so much fun

Bdubs' typing style

saw a post that i felt did Not describe bdubs' typing habits correctly at all so i needed to make a post about it.

OLD typing style (like 2011 early years) bdubs kinda sucked at typing and grammar lol. He was a slow typer and spelled stuff wrong a lot (mostly big words. he would often voice how he didnt know how to spell sometimes as he did it. and then he'd spell it wrong lol). would type abbreviations too like bbl, brb, lol, np, etc. Sometimes he would type ones like "lol" in all caps. He would also shorten some words/spell them an alternate way like "gunna" instead of "gonna" or "lil" instead of "little"

He didn't really use emotes too much other than a basic :) or ;) usually. you could maybe throw in a :P or :D if you wanted but i mostly see the former.

He would not use other punctuation like apostrophes much if at all, sometimes use commas where needed, and not capitalize his sentences. would use periods if typing more than one sentence in the same message, and using question marks where needed, and sometimes exclamation marks if he felt the need (sometimes more than one if hes "mad"). he'd even use "..." in his sentences (usually without a space between words).

NEW typing style- Bdubs is technically better at typing (lol). One of the issues with new videos though in order to find chat messages is that people often cut out any kind of chatting in edited videos. But i will describe what i can based off what we do see- (its not much different tbh)

A bit faster of a typer now but if you watch him actually type in videos/streams, you'll see him get stuck sometimes as he tries to figure out his sentences. but he does spell things correctly now for the most part.

Interestingly I would sometimes see in old videos where id see him typing some sentences in a more ~proper~ manner. ex one being "i look forward to seeing such things as these" at guude when he said he was recording something. In hermitcraft charity stream last year he whispered to etho "of course! with our prefect prowess" (screenshot below). which is not at all his *usual* way of typing, its more exaggerated on purpose.

this is funny to me that i have noted it so long ago, and then we have a guy who seems very into settings that would lend that kind of speech (all his bwb kingdoms, the king arc with ren where its VERY apparently used). that said he doesnt do this much- dont go overboard on this one! i feel its mainly when bragging about himself, or a few times where he thinks it would be amusing- he can be pretty sarcastic sometimes (outside of the king arc roleplaying)

He still doesn't use emotes much (i cant think of many new videos where he does, but i dont have as much reference in these new videos. i would play it safe and stick to the simple ones mentioned above. While he still doesn't punctuate his sentences as much and still doesn't capitalize, I feel like he types a bit more how he talks? using exclamations more to finish his sentences, sometimes a "?!", maybe more than one exclamation even- and usually when sounding "mad" in chat he will use all caps. sometimes a multiple !! or ??
