What if Petyr was Jon Arryn’s son?

So House Arryn's words are "As High as Honor" and that is what started this ``what if.

I'm aging Petyr down a bit for this. Jon Arryn met Alayne Baelish, who was the daughter of a small lord in the Vale. He married her, his second wife, and she birthed a son, Petyr. When Robert and Ned are fostered in the Eyrie, he is about eight years old. The war breaks out, Robert wins and claims the throne. He releases Jaime from the King's Guard and he marries Lysa. Jon Arryn already has a son so he need not marry Lysa- who also never met Petyr since he was not fostered at Riverrun. However, Jaime and Cersei still have their affair.

Ned finds Lyanna in Dorne and she gives birth to Jon Snow. On his way North, he stops in the Eyrie to rest. Jon Arryn is in KL with Robert, so it is just Ned, Howland Reed and Petyr who are in the Eyrie. Ned is not sure what he is to do with this infant child just yet, only that he promised Lyanna that he would protect him. Petyr, who is still a very young boy but is way too smart for his age, peers at the boy and tells Ned to lie.

Ned says it is not the honorable thing, and Petyr replies Where there is honor, dishonesty follows.

Petyr, at the age of eight, is the one who devises the secret of Jon Snow, and promises never to tell a soul- and he never does.

Fast forward about twenty years. Jon Arryn, who is the hand of the king, dies. Petyr, who is now about twenty-eight, had been acting as Lord Protector of the Vale in his father’s stead. He goes South for the funeral and there is a darkness that surrounds him in his grief. However, King Robert trusts Petyr because he remembered him as a child and Petyr is the one who is responsible for the death and murder of Deanrys Targaryen and her brother. He mentions that he is going to Winterfell to ask Ned to be Hand of the King. Petyr requests to come along since Ned is an old friend.

When they arrive, Ned is a bit uneasy with Petyr but quickly realizes that Petyr will keep his promise, especially when he barely acknowledges Jon (at least that Ned notices). Petyr tells Ned that Jon Arryn was murdered and he beleives that he knows who did it and why. He also knows that Robert wants to marry Sansa to Joffrey. Sansa, who is about seventeen at this point, is over the moon. Petyr cautions her, stating that nothing good comes from lying in bed with Lannisters. He tells her to get close to Joffrey but be weary of him, and if he ever touches her or hurts her, to tell him immediately. This warning sticks in Sansa’s mind from the beginning.

Bran still falls from the tower.

When they arrive in King’s Landing, the game begins. Ned is searching for the truth of who murdered Jon Arryn and Petyr, who has taken up the positon of Master of Coin because the other one has simply “vanished”. Petyr knows that the Lanniser’s are responsible for the death of his father and why. He also is leaning on Sansa to discover what it is that she is learning from Joffrey. All the while, an attraction is brewing between the two of them. Petyr is not sure if Robert would believe him, and he needs to convince Ned of the truth in order to ensure that there are no Lannisters left.

In the end, Petyr and Ned approach Robert together before Cersei can kill him. Sansa would have overheard the plot and told Petyr. In the end, it is Sansa who reveals everything she learned to all three men. Cersei, Jaime and all the Lannisters are executed, with the exception of Lysa who was just enjoying her life at Casterly Rock with the few children she had with Jaime. She becomes Wardeness of the West in her son’s stead after the rest of the Lannisters are dead.

Robert mentions that he will have to remarry and Ned can sense that he is thinking of taking Sansa as his bride, which makes him uneasy because he knows his daughter would be unhappy. Petyr approaches him and states that Ned owes him a great favor for keeping his lips sealed all those years ago and protecting Jon Snow. He mentions that Robert had him ensure that there were no Targaryens left but he left one alive. In exchange, he asks for Sansa’s hand. Reluctantly, Ned agrees when he sees that Sansa would be accepting of the match. They approach Robert with the engagement who reluctantly agrees, then eventually marrying Margaery Tyrell like his brother Renly proposed.

Petyr and Sansa marry, becoming Lord and Lady of the Vale. When they return to the Eyrie, Ned taking Arya North, Petyr breaks his promise to Ned- confessing the truth behind Jon Snow.

Sansa never speaks of it outside of her chambers shared with her husband.

It will become the secret that dies in the Vale.

I just went to the theater to see Shock Horror. It was amazing! Didn't necesseraly scare me, although it certainly intrigued me and caught me off guard many times.

And my heart may have been beating too fast, but we won't talk about that :)
