I don't think anyone cares about this, but Damian's appearance in this weeks Wildcats issue (well it wasn't exactly him, it was a different universe version of him) was...kind of lame.
I'm not sure why Rosenberg included him in the first place because Damian didn't actually contribute anything important to the plot.
Grifter says he hates him in his inner monologue:
Tumblr media
For some reason Grifter treats Damian's comment about Raven being impressive as something sexual:
Tumblr media
Why??? Just....ugh. Damian praising Raven isn't creepy. Grifter interpreting it that way for no reason is.
Then Damian offers to buy them time by fighting Zealot and he dies:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But it doesn't really matter all that much. They are a a bit shocked and then go back to business:
Tumblr media
Am I truly mad? No. Did I enjoy this? Also no.
I just don't understand what the point of Damian showing up in this was. Also I'm very over Damian sacrificing his life just so other characters finally acknowledge that he's actually a good kid.
Other DC characters can just walk into room and the writers will have everyone bend over backwards to praise this character without them even doing anything and Damian often has to die first for someone to say something remotely nice about him. It's really depressing.

Tbf to Dorothea's hypocrisy on CF, couldn't that be blamed more on the fact that the vast majority of the optional recruits in that route are written heavily out-of-character so they can side with Edelgard, including Dorothea herself?
It doesn't fix 3H not realizing that she's much more priviliged than an average commoner, but i feel like Dorothea being hypocritical on CF is is more an example of that route's generally clownish character writing than something specifically wrong with her imo.
character hate under the cut it goes
If it weren't for Ferdinand I'd say sure, but that specific aspect of her hypocrisy stays with her no matter the route. She's never angry at Edelgard. Ever. She's only ever regretful that they have to fight each other, and never shows off that she feels betrayed by Edelgard's actions. She can stay pissed at Ferdinand for what he did as a fuckin' NINE YEAR OLD CHILD put into AN INSANELY FLUSTERING SITUATION for a child to be randomly put into out of nowhere - and stay mad at him FOR OVER A DECADE - because it hurt her feelings, but she had a chill year with Edelgard (that gets revealed to her to be built on a foundation of lies and blood) so that means she's chill with Edelgard's
ATTEMPTED
MURDER
and will NEVER bring that event up, and will NEVER get pissed at her for doing it. Even though HER LIFE WAS NEARLY ENDED because of it.
And also, she still does explicitly hate nobility on all routes - she will lambast them for crawling back to the player's army once Edelgard is defeated out of self-interest. She'll praise and cry for Bergliez for giving up his life to spare his men, and that and hating nobles would all be just fine... except she does all this without ever acknowledging who exactly it was that caused Bergliez's sacrifice to be a necessity in the first place. You know, the one who threw everyone into war? For her own benefit? That thing Dorothea literally just got finished showing off she didn't like nobles doing? But it's fine if her bestie does it!
So, not really - while CF certainly does exacerbate these issues in Dorothea, they are always there to some degree regardless of where she's at

To the post that you posted about someone saying that F1 never posted about the Abuse Lewis gets lives under a rock I swear.
I had a argument with someone saying that the Abuse Yuki, Zhou and Alex got should get the same attention as Lewis since those 3 are POCs, I remember seeing that Mattia called Yuki, Yuki Tsunami where was that Anger 🤨, what about when people mistook Alex for GP and they was giving him death threats and racist abuse, and Nicholas Latifi he had to have security at Winter Wonderland because of LH fans after 21 like I’m sorry where are the statements.
The Abuse Carlos gets from Charles fans, Max with Checo fans, Max with Lewis fans, I’m sorry but it’s time F1 start making statements for each driver because I can see it getting worse, I mean the Checo fans threatening max saying wait till you come to Mexico, like I’m sorry but this is over 1 race and Checo said he didn’t want to pass Max on team orders and even if max let him by Checo wouldn’t be second last year he’d still be 3rd.
It’s Ridiculous that these drivers get Abuse, Racist threats, Death threats and only one driver they say something out against.
Max called out his fans for burning the Mercedes’ Merch and the threats, yet Lewis never called his fans for the death threats against Latifi or even the racist abuse thrown at Alex for no reason, remember when last year in Zandvoort was it when Yuki went back out and he had to stop which brought out the safety car and people was sending hate to Hannah saying she told Alpha Tauri to send him out and she got a load of hate and one of Lewis fans on twitter came out with a statement saying they don’t condone it all Lewis did was Retweet it and then the rest of his fans bullied that person so they took it down like Wtf if you know what your fan base is like call them out it’s not hard
Sorry for the rant but it needs to be said
SPEAKING FACTS FACTS FACTS !!!!!!
F1 is full of double standards and it pisses me off so bad. ”Racism Lewis bad!!” Yes, I agree. But keep that same fucking energy to EVERYONE.
I firmly believe that if you are going waste your energy on HATING someone, at least do it the right way. I literally can’t take anyone serious when they talk about the racist abuse Lewis gets because they’re usually the same people who sent death threats to Masi and Latifi.
F1 is literally racing in countries that don’t give a fuck about these things. It’s all performative. ”We race as one” my ass bruh.
This is not only in F1. Racism against Asians is so normalized it’s disgusting. When covid started, I saw so much RACISM against Asians. But then George Floyd happened and suddenly everyone is AGAINST racism??? What the actual fuck bruh. You can’t even call these people out without being accused yourself
When Red Bull boycotted Sky Sports everyone just laughed and said Max is soft and whatever, but if it was any of the brits people would be shitting on Sky.
Also last year in Zandvoort the MISOGYNY against Hannah is fucking disgusting??? ”Praise women in motorsports!” but when a woman does her job right in a team you don’t like, it excuses blatant misogyny???
Red bull team and fans receive so much bullshit just for existing because British media has painted them as the villain and people will let their hatred blind them. Fuckin sheep i swear.
This is the exact reason why i stay out of the core community. I enjoy the sport. I love it, even. But i’m not gonna be a hypocrite. I give money every month to pay for F1TV, so technically I am part of the problem - just like everyone else. If you’re gonna speak on these issues, acknowledge your (and your favourite’s) hypocrisy because if you don’t you just show you lack braincells

⚠tw: sexual assault⚠
Since no one is calling the rape scene in episode six of Bridgerton what it is - rape - I have a few things to say.
Simon very clearly tells Daphne to “wait” but she continues. That makes it rape, point blank. Consent can be revoked at any time during the act and if the other person continues, it is rape. It does not matter the genders of the participants, if you have had sexual relations before, or if you are married to your rapist. IF SOMEONE SAYS STOP AND YOU KEEP GOING, YOU ARE RAPING THEM. There is no “gray area” here. She knew what she was doing.
I keep seeing people trying to justify Daphne’s actions and it is disgusting and inexcusable. Yes, Simon was wrong for lying to her about his ability to father children, but THAT DOES NOT MAKE WHAT SHE DID ANY LESS HORRIFYING. Yes, Simon was wrong but that doesn’t mean he deserved to be raped. The show never has Daphne even apologize for raping him.  Absolutely gross. And I’m supposed to root for them as a couple after this? Fuck that.
(Also, Daphne’s complete lack of knowledge about how babies are made is historically inaccurate. Regency era young women did by-and-large know where babies came from. But I’m digressing from the point. Regardless, lack of awareness is not an excuse for committing rape.)
Then, I keep seeing people say that the rape was not a rape because “Simon could’ve fought her off if he really wanted to” or “he consented to sex before and seemed into it in the beginning.” NONE OF THIS CHANGES THE FACT THAT IT IS RAPE. Some people are frozen in situations of trauma. They panic. And you can see in his eyes after the rape that he is upset and shocked. Would you ever ask a woman who says she was raped why she didn’t fight her attacker harder, or tell her she must’ve been enjoying it because she didn’t fight him off?
Also, I repeat, CONSENT CAN BE WITHDRAWN AT ANY TIME DURING THE ACT. He tells her to “wait.” She doesn’t listen. It is rape. If the roles were reversed, and a woman told a man to "wait” during sex and he didn’t, would you still have the same response? Simon has the right to determine whether he reproduces or not. The show could’ve had the two of them discuss their opinions on children and Daphne help Simon put his trauma behind him through communication and support. Or - considering the pull-out method is not the most effective - perhaps she could have thought she was pregnant and this could have started a dialogue, with the end result being Simon decided he wanted children after all. This did not need to happen.
There is also the added element that Daphne is white and Simon is Black, which makes her rape of him even more atrocious than it already was. Why should a Black man have to forgive his white wife for raping him? She is not entitled to his body. Fuck that.
And then we have showrunner Chris Van Dusen JUSTIFYING the rape by saying it was “part of Daphne’s journey.” I am disgusted. Every one who took part in writing this scene should be ashamed of themselves.
Reminder that men can be raped. Women can be rapists. Men have the same right to say ‘no’. Everyone needs to listen to and respect their sexual partner. Daphne and Simon’s relationship is not “swoon-worthy” or “romantic.” It is toxic. There is no “gray area” here.

“It must be so nice to have such a good daughter to take care of you,” Mr. Ksaver comments without a second thought, as you head towards the kitchen to get two cups of coffee for Zeke and his friend. Your lips turn up into a pleased smile as soon as you hear the words, delighted with the praise from someone so close to your step-father.
Zeke makes an effort to hide the smirk that comes to him so naturally, because if only Mr. Ksaver knew just how good of a daughter you were for him. But that’s a conversation for another day, he finally decides, turning back to his guest with a smile.
“Step-daughter,” he corrects with the most genuine look he can muster. He could fool a priest with that aura of ingenuity that he gives off without any effort, because after all, that’s how he had gotten you into this position in the first place.
Mr. Ksaver beams back at him, his close friend still completely in the dark.
“Oh, of course, but you two could fool anyone. Say, where’s your wife? I haven’t seen her in a while..” Tom trails off, and Zeke is glad for it. He doesn’t like talking about your mother, his new wife, if he can help it. Business trips and commitments at the salon kept much of her time occupied, leaving only brief interactions with you two, her so-called family. It didn’t take long for him to realize she had been this way most of your life, an absent parental figure since the departure of your father. As cruel as it was, he could easily see why you were the way you were.
Zeke thought you were a lot of things. Pretty was at the top of the list, along with innocent and insecure, but the biggest quality he could see in you, the one that just screamed out at him ever since that first time he had laid eyes on you, was people-pleaser.
It was so apparent in everything you did, from the modest way you dressed to the try-hard behavior you exhibited with teachers and your friends’ parents. He recognized quickly it was because your mother didn’t acknowledge any of it, not the dinners you made for the three of you or the sweet, thoughtful gifts and flowers on special occasions.
It was actually on Mother’s Day the previous year when he had been able to get you alone for the first time. The then-new Mrs. Yeager had booked a full day at the spa as a treat for herself, even though she barely had an ounce of motherly qualities in her body. She had tossed aside the bouquet you had gifted her with, skimmed the card with your sweet, handwritten note, and rolled her eyes at your own watery ones after seeing just how little she cared about this holiday that was meant for you both to celebrate.
After she had left, Zeke had knocked on your door tentatively. It was wrong of him to be as gleeful as he was on the inside, but he’d been waiting for a moment like this for the last several months. He even let twenty minutes pass before coming up to your room to make sure he would get you teary-eyed and upset, just how he wanted.
Any other girl might have told her new step-father to fuck right off, given that he had done nothing to defend you or ask your mother to be kinder towards you, but not you. Ever the people-pleaser, you wiped away your tears with the sleeves of the cardigan you’d been wearing all day, fixed yourself from the position you had been in while weeping on your bed, and told him to come in.
Zeke was fucked the minute he saw you sitting there, dressed purely like an angel in a sundress that had ridden up in your distress and with tear-lidden eyelashes blinking slowly at him. The redness of your nose and cheeks, mixed with how your hair was just a little messed up and your hiccuping whimpers painted an entirely different picture for him. At first, it had just been a game, just to see how long it would take him to seduce his new wife’s daughter, but now it was something else altogether.
But it’s the first sentence you say to him, alone in the house without your wretched mother for the first time, that breaks him.
“S-Sorry Zeke. I didn’t want to eat after that, but I can go get everything ready again for you.” For him. Your mother’s cold behavior had you crying your eyes out before noon, and yet you were still concerned about the lunch you had prepared and if he wanted to eat.
It made his heart burn in a lecherous way, with thoughts in his head about why he hadn’t married you instead of her.
“That’s okay, honey, don’t worry about me. I came to check up on you.” He’s holding up the facade well, he thinks, closing the door gently behind him and hearing the click of the latch. He’s only been in your room a handful of times, and for most of those occasions, you hadn’t been there, so he couldn’t act too comfortable. His eyes roamed around the space, taking in the sweet scent of your perfume that lingered on every object and shoving his hands into his pockets to seem as unassuming as possible.
You wipe away a stray tear, blinking quickly and looking back at him with big eyes. Damn your eyes, honestly, because he knows he doesn’t stand a chance against them, especially when they’re so watery like that.
“Check up on me?” you let out in a soft voice. It’s adorable, honestly, how you think your new step-father would be just like your mother and not care about you at all. You’re not used to this kind of affection from anyone besides your friends from school, and even they don’t know about the reality of your home life. You don’t know what it’s like to have a parent check up on you, to have them want to make sure you’re okay, and suddenly you can feel your face burning with heat at the realization that you and Zeke are all alone in your bedroom.
Zeke is handsome according to anyone’s standards, but for some reason, you can never tear your eyes away from him when he doesn’t know you’re looking. He’s old enough to be your father—your real father, that is—but that doesn’t stop you. You always find yourself staring at his golden locks that shine especially bright when he’s in the sun after his daily run, when you’re watering your garden and your mother isn’t home from work yet. Or when he’s just left the shower and every part of his body is dripping wet, walking back to his bedroom and you catch a glimpse through your open door.
It’s easy to think of him as off-limits, though, since you would never hurt your mother like that. She doesn’t show you affection, or care about you like how your friends’ mothers care for them, but she’s still your mom. Nothing would ever justify betraying her like this, by having these illicit thoughts about your step-father. So you make sure you stop staring, avoid being alone with him as much as you can and create excuses to get out of spending time with him, but you don’t think any of that is really working.
Because now, with Zeke in your bedroom and the sleeves of your cardigan wet with far too many tears, you don’t really care if this is wrong. All you care about is how Zeke is inching closer to your bed with every step.
“Yeah, sweetheart, I wanted to make sure you were okay after all that. It’s not easy, I know,” he says in such a soothing tone that you feel yourself getting lost in the daze of it.
“You know?” you question again, wondering if Zeke could really relate to you. You had always felt like such an outcast, the poor girl nobody loved or wanted, without any love in her life at all.
“Uh-huh, I know. I really hate that your mother won’t treat you better, but you know her, she’s not gonna change,” he watches your nodding face and resigned expression. “Can I-?” he motions to the space next to you on the bed.
“Oh, sure, please,” you say quickly, moving yourself over a bit and making room for him, dress exposing even more of the soft skin of your legs now. He tries not to stare, and every part of him wants to put a hand on your thigh and stroke softly, but he doesn’t want to scare you off. Not yet. He’ll take his time.
“Thank you for saying that.” Your voice is so quiet he almost doesn’t hear it.
“Of course. I mean, you are my daughter now, aren’t you?” He’s pushing his luck, but oh well. “I guess… it’s sort of my responsibility to take care of you, right?”
He sees your eyes widen a little, probably a million thoughts running through your little head. You’re so used to being alone, not having anyone’s affection, that a few simple words from Zeke have you fucked. Probably feeling the same way he is in this moment, eager and affectionate and ready. You find yourself nodding at his sweet words.
Any other day, you might have doubted the sincerity of what he was feeding you, but your mind was already a little fuzzy from the interaction with your mother. You still don’t know why you had gotten your hopes up so much, when it always led to disappointment in the end. You wish you could go back and warn yourself not to expect so much from your mother, who was almost as absent a parental figure as your father.
In that moment, Zeke’s kind words and welcoming arms didn’t seem so bad. You could only imagine that he felt the same way you did, as you doubted your mother was being a good wife to him from the interactions you observed.
“I…” you begin, but trail off when you notice the way Zeke’s eyes are looking at you. You almost instinctively lean back and away from him, like a lamb avoiding a predator, when you focus on how he’s much too close to you.
You’re entirely overwhelmed by his piercing, concerned gaze and the uncomfortable heat you feel between your thighs—your throat runs dry and you know it’s not from the crying. You think he must notice it too, with the way he leans forward, one more movement from him and you’d be trapped between Zeke’s broad figure and your bed.
He supposes that was the make-or-break moment in this little dalliance between you two. In that moment, had you been uncertain or asked him to leave, he would have listened to you and likely never bothered you again. All the same, he knew you wouldn’t.
You look back fondly on that Mother’s Day, the day you gave yourself over to Zeke without the slightest bit of regret. Your mother had returned home later that night, with nails and hair freshly done, acting as though there could have been no better way to spend Mother’s Day. She walked right past you sitting on the couch with Zeke, ignoring his tousled hair and your swollen lips.
Since then, it had been a fun sort of game. You felt guilty, of course, but nothing could compare to the thrill of the secret you had with Zeke, just for you two and no one else. He was more adventurous than you, always sneaking kisses and lingering touches when your mother was just a room away, fucking you roughly with a hand clasped over your mouth while she was on a conference call in her office down the hall.
Over time, you felt yourself becoming adventurous too. You had never done anything like this before, anything remotely bad or wrong, and it was safe to say that you were sinking further and further into the pit of corruption that Zeke had created.
Which is how you ended up here today.
You brought back two steaming cups of coffee on a platter to the living room, setting them down and mixing in cream and sugar for Zeke’s. You hand the cup to him with a sweet smile, and he takes a sip contentedly.
“Just perfect, like always.” The praise makes you smile widely, cheeks feeling warm despite the fact that you had a guest.
“How do you take your coffee, Mr. Ksaver?” you ask politely, as the elderly man laughs and takes the cup into his hand.
“Just plain black, thank you. I never had a taste for sweet things, like Zeke does.” If only he knew.
You smile again and bid goodbye, taking the tray with you as you leave and heading back to your room. You knew Zeke would be up as soon as he was done, since your mother was still out and you had precious time together, all alone.
As soon as you heard the front door close, and the sound of ignition starting from outside your window, you were alert. You could hear Zeke’s footsteps coming up the staircase, eagerly anticipating him this time.
He doesn’t knock anymore, letting himself in and closing the door gently behind him, as always. You hear the lock click quietly.
“Daddy,” you mumble from your place on your bed. You’re lying against the pillows now, fully on display for him in his favorite dress and already wet at the thought of what he would do to you once he got you alone.
“Yes, honey?” He says, in a tone that’s sincere and mocking at the same time. He’s still by the door, not coming in further like you want him to. He wants you to use your words.
“You said once we were alone..”
“Once we were alone, what? That I’d play with you?” You nod dumbly at his words. He inches closer to you, but still entirely too far away for your liking.
“I want you, Daddy. We only have a little bit before she gets back,” and you know you’re in for it now.
“Oh, is that so? We only have a little time?” Before you can process it, Zeke is hovering above you, a firm hand on your wetness teasing you and making you cry out at the sudden pressure. His hand moves slowly, just barely grazing your clothed clit and you whimper. “Let me tell you something, baby,” he whispers right next to your ear. “I’ll take as much time with you as I want, no matter who else is in this house. You got that?”
You let out a strangled moan at his words, knowing the effect they have on you and the uncomfortable wetness between your legs becoming even more prominent. You could swear that he can see how wet you are, even with your panties still on, and you desperately jerk up onto his hand to get some, any, contact.
“D-daddy, please! I-” you break off into another moan as he rubs your clit firmly. You’re not even sure when he took your panties off, but you can feel two of his fingers prodding at your slit, just waiting as he continues his work.
“Does that feel good, baby? Use your words,” he says, teasing you despite how badly you want him to stop and just be inside you already. Another strange feeling bubbles in your chest, knowing that your mother would be home soon and could be pulling into the driveway right now. You can hardly focus on those thoughts though, letting out a loud squeal when Zeke pushes two fingers into your soaking wetness, stopping at his knuckles.
“Oh god, Daddy, that feels so good, please, please keep going-” the rest of your words disappear as he pushes his thick fingers completely in, marveling at the way you’re so stretched out around them.
“Good girl, baby, you’re doing so well.” You keen at the praise, moaning loudly as he continues fingering you, scissoring his digits inside you and getting you prepared for his cock. He knows he’s on a time limit too, but he’ll be damned if he lets that rush him. No, he needs to take his time with you.
Every time he feels the tightness of your hole, it takes him back to that first time, and he refuses to hurry up.
His thumb rubbing circles on your clit as he pumps his fingers in and out quickly, filling the room with a lewd squelching noise, have you seeing stars before long. Every time Zeke touches you, you wonder how you went so long without it. Your own actions when you touch yourself are nothing compared to his anymore. He’s got you so dependent on him, so reliant that you barely want to cum by yourself anymore.
He slows his actions just for a second, just to pull down the front of your sundress and reveal your tits to him. Zeke increases his speed as he latches his mouth around your hardening nipple, flicking with his tongue and taking the pebbled bud between his teeth, tugging slightly and making you cry out as it suddenly becomes too much to handle.
You’re succumbing to the orgasm before you even know it, waves of pleasure washing over your body as the knot in your stomach finally releases and fills your core with heat.
“Good girl, baby, cum for Daddy now,” he says from his place on your chest.
“Daddy! Daddy, I-! Oh!” You know how pathetic you must sound, screaming and moaning helplessly as Zeke doesn’t let up on his actions. You finally put your hand on top of his and make him look up, into your eyes, and press his lips to yours.
A sloppy, hot kiss in the aftermath of your orgasm has you shaking under his grip, entire body feeling hot and sweaty. He pushes his fingers, slick with your wetness, to your lips and you open without any request for him, sucking and rolling your tongue over the digits until they’re all clean.
“Good girl,” he breathes into your neck, whether he places more sloppy kisses. “You ready for Daddy to fuck you?”
You nod meekly, moaning loudly as you feel Zeke align himself with your slit, and letting out a high-pitched squeal when he pushes himself into you entirely. You choke on your breath at the sudden feeling of fullness, completely ignoring the way Zeke’s focus seems to be on something else.
Perfect timing, he thinks to himself, hearing the car pull into the driveway and knowing his dear wife had arrived home. He was too deep inside of you to care, though.
Zeke pulled his hips back slowly, wanting you to feel every inch of him, and then slammed them down harshly. For every motion of his hips, you released a loud, obscene moan, babbling on without making any sense at all as Zeke fucked you.
All you could process were Zeke’s reassuring praises, calling you a good girl as he continued at a brutal pace, fucking you so hard you couldn’t figure out where you stopped and he began.
He picked up the pace and the angle of his cock stretched you out so perfectly, he was hitting against your clit with every thrust and you could swear you were seeing stars again, so close to the edge and screaming out for him, when he clasps a hand over your mouth quickly.
You reacted with a jolt, unsure of why he suddenly silenced you when he placed a kiss right next to your ear, whispering quietly.
“Looks like she’s home. Be quiet for Daddy, okay, baby?” Your eyes widen in panic, flustered with shame and another feeling you can’t put together when Zeke goes back to his quick pace, fucking you rapidly and giving your clit the contact you so desperately needed. You cum again with a stifled, broken noise leaving your mouth and your body jerking up against his, the hand that wasn’t covering your mouth holding you down in place. You feel yourself clench down on his cock, as he rides you through it, thrusting in and out and doing nothing to stop the vulgar noises that fill the room.
You can hear it now—the steps of your mother coming into the house, and probably up the stairs to her office soon enough. Your heavy breathing coupled with Zeke’s grunts are the only sound left as his hips stutter and you feel hot ropes of cum shoot inside you, filling you up. Zeke finally comes to a halt, pressing a kiss to your lips as you hear your mother walk right outside your door, talking to someone on the phone.
Your panicked eyes meet his perfectly calm ones, a devilish smirk playing at his lips as you hear the steps halt and then continue again, walking by your room as though you didn’t even exist.
You release a sigh, Zeke pressing another kiss to you that you return eagerly.
“Good girl. Now clean up while Daddy goes and deals with her.”
You feel suddenly emptier, lighter as Zeke lifts his weight off of you and adjusts his clothes. You sit back up slowly, careful to not make an even bigger mess and ruin your dress, as Zeke grabs your panties off the floor and hands them to you with a smile. You pull them up, fixing your dress and realizing that you need to run a brush through your hair before you see your mother again.
Zeke unlocks the door and leaves with one last smile gracing his face, as you sit up and feel remnants of your encounter inside you.
Moments later, your mother walks by and glances at your open door, which was locked before. She pushes it open, taking a look at you on the bed. You’re certain you look like a mess, hair disheveled and sweat on your body, with limbs feeling like jelly.
“Hi, mom,” you greet, with the most false enthusiasm you can muster. “What is it?” She looks at you coldly, almost as if she knew something was going on and couldn’t quite place it.
“Clean yourself up, honey, Uncle Eren is coming over for the weekend.”

Keigo cared.
You could tell, so easily. It radiated around him when you were together, this aura that he never carried publicly. It was saved for you, a different type of adoration and tenderness that solely belonged between the two of your souls.
It was never acknowledged, but felt, and that quiet recognition was enough.
There were things you couldn’t tell him, not yet and fuck, maybe you never would. Everyone has their demons, and you knew Keigo had plenty of secrets he kept to him.
(How many times did you help him pluck and preen feathers still wet with blood? He assured you it was never his, but that didn’t ease the knot in your gut.)
It was just boundaries, maybe. Maybe. The things you couldn’t, wouldn’t tell each other. Little lines drawn to keep the two of you safe from your pains. Better to lock them up than share them, right?
Except, things are never that simple and ills hate staying hidden for too long.
...
He’d been gone for a while. A mission far off and secret.
By proxy, Keigo had come home haggard and hungry.
For you.
He entered your home and without pause, he was on you.
He tossed you into bed. His wings flared out wide and ruffled. It made him look bigger than he was, and the light in his eyes had a starved gleam that sent your heart racing.
You tried to ignore his new, plentiful bruises and bumps. The colors bloomed over his skin, even in the near dark of the bedroom.
What does he do when he’s away?
It was better to not ask questions.
He ravaged you, naturally. How could he not? He’d been gone for weeks, sending you the nastiest, most yearning texts. Nothing too long, but little notes that communicated how much he missed you, how much he fucking needed you.
And he was certainly showing you.
His lips were over yours, nipping and sucking and devouring you in every sense of the word. Hands tugged and ripped your clothes off, his nails long and unmanicured with his mission. They weren’t quite pointed, but they were still too sharp to be scratching down your ribs.
It was all a bit too much, a bit too fast, but you tried to catch up the best you could.
“Keigo—” You sputtered as he bit his way down to your breasts, tugging on a nipple with his teeth.
“Hush,” His voice sounded far too low and it made your stomach flip (in the worst way oh my god). “I’ll take care of you. Doesn’t that sound nice, dove?”
The pet name should’ve soothed you.
(‘Should’ve’.)
Your inside did flips as he trailed lower.
Your mind was going lower too.
Mentally, you scrambled, clawing for a ledge to ground yourself on. Sensation whirled, pleasure and fear mixing into some fucked up cocktail in the front of your psyche.
Why are you so scared?
Your heart pounded, nearly ached in your chest as Keigo played with your clit over your panties.
It should’ve felt good.
His tousled hair was so fucking pretty. Keigo was gorgeous in every way, the wings were just a part of his visage. You were so lucky, so privileged to have him looking at your cunt so hungrily.
You’re so scared.
Why are you scared?
(You knew why, you just didn’t want to remember any more than you needed to. But that wasn’t really in your control, was it?)
You felt like you were falling as Keigo cleanly licks your cunt through your panties, soaking the cotton with his drool.
No, no, no.
Tears pricked your eyes as he pulled aside your panties, just enough to get a look, going in for a taste—
NO, NO, NO—
“N-no. Stop.” You gasped the words, cringing at how they broke in your throat. “Keigo, s-stop.”
Keigo froze immediatly, gaze flickering up to your face before his expression fell hard and fast.
No, no, no, you made him upset.
Dumbass.
He shot up, wings folding tight to his back. You scrambled up on the bed, arms wrapping around your shoulders. They shook in your grasp, you shook in your own hold as you tried to comfort yourself. Your breath was coming too fast and hard, but that was another issue entirely. You tucked into yourself tighter and let your vision go blurry in the ripples of the sheets.
Keigo sat in front of you, eyes wide and lips parted in terror and unsure words.
“I’m so s-sorry,” His hands folded in his lap. So tense they looked painful.
You shook your head, laughing, “It’s not your fault. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
You just couldn’t do this right now.
“Can I help?”
You didn’t reply for a moment, trying to reign in your racing mind.
Truly, Keigo didn’t do anything wrong. Maybe moved a bit too fast, but nothing out of the ordinary. You’d done this song and dance so many times, you loved it. Most of the time.
Sometimes, someone with your secrets had bad days that made you scared of the people that love you the most.
A thick sludge burrowed in the back of your throat as you shook your head.
Thinking felt too hard.
“Not yet,” you choked out rubbing at your cheeks. The tears smeared over your cheeks, turning them hot and angry as the rabbit’s heart buried in your chest. .
Keigo hovered, unsure.
It wasn’t like him not to know what to do. He was intuitive and saw through people easily, even if he didn’t say it. And he knew you particularly well. Very well. Little details about you and your being were tucked away in his mind, always brought out in key moments.
“Dovey?” He asked softly, like trying not to startle a terrified animal (isn’t that what you were?) “Do you want me to go?”
“N-no,” The words burst from your lips as your chest squeezed so tight, you could’ve checked. “No, no, no, please don’t go.”
You gagged on air and slammed back into the headboard.
Sure, the odd mix of emotions and very unwelcome memories was rawing your mind and body from the inside out. Sure, Keigo knew nothing of what you were experiencing. This was private, all of this part of you held far away from him. This was your burden. You had therapy, and self-help books, and deep breathing.
But, none of that was working. Instead, you were staring down your lover, helpless.
Your eyes flickered to the nightstand.
“Water?”
Keigo was already sending off a flurry of feathers to freshen up the liquid in the glass.
Good start.
Keigo’s hands twitched, wings restless as he regarded you. His breaths were even and solid, counted and practiced to keep himself calm in the face of your panic.
A chilled glass was delivered to you by a bundle of feathers. You snatched it, holding it to your cheeks before taking a few fat gulps.
Slow down.
You’re going too fast.
“Little sips,” Keigo reminded you, voice soft.
You pulled back, looking at him in your hazy vision, “Little sips?”
You tried again, taking a smaller sip, swishing the water in your mouth before swallowing.
“Was that good?” You looked at him, inching closer to him
He nodded, golden and glowing, “Very good.”
The praise was a little bit of salve for a much larger wound, but it felt wonderful nonetheless.
Keigo wasn’t the issue.
He wasn’t, truly. You knew that, despite all the swirling fear.
The only issue with Keigo was that he suddenly felt too far away.
You gave him a desperate little look, hands itching across the covers.
He noticed because of course he fucking did.
(Thank fucking god.)
“I’m here.”
It was a reminder, a needed one.
Keigo, your kind, sweet partner was not the memories swirling his mind. He didn’t hurt you, he didn’t harm you.
“... Yeah?” You sniffled.
“I am.” His face was soft, softer than you’d ever seen. The pre-mature wrinkles looked too deep in the moonlight. His eyes looked too old, too worn, as he silently acknowledged those goddamn demons without a word. A little, rumbling coo broke from the back of his throat and felt yourself relax with the sound.
And, fuck, bless him—
Keigo gave you a soft smile that felt like warm honey in spiced tea that seeps into the cracks between your ribs.
“Hold me?” You finally asked, words shaking but not hesitant.
He nodded, and before you could comprehend, he was tugging you down into the sheets, pulling you to his chest and squeezing. It wasn’t rough treatment, but it was firm, grounding at the very fucking least. His arm wrapped around your middle, pulling you to his chest and holding you there. Your cheek squished against the chill of the cooling sweat over his sternum, a shaking breath finally coming slow enough to give you a bit of ease.
“Is this okay?” Keigo asked, one of his wings adjusted to barely ghost over your bodies.
You pressed closer, greedy and scared, “More. Tighter. Please.”
Keigo wasn’t one to deny you.
His grip got firmer, fingers stroking up and down your spine in time with his own slow breathing. The wing over you relaxed, bearing down just enough to be comfortable. It was maybe a little too much. You dealt with it, let the weight of Keigo be next to you and over you because he was good. You were good or going to be. You clung to the thought.
“You’re safe, I promise.”
You clung to that thought too. Keigo was good and safe. You believed him if only a little bit.
You hoped Keigo knew that this wasn’t about him. That the poisonous memories and awful thoughts weren’t about him, rather than he’d caught their thin, nearly invisible tripwire.
You’re safe, why are you panicking?
Because sometimes this just happens.
You pressed your nose between his pecs, tucking a hand between the roots of his wings. It made him startle; the area was sensitive. He quickly relaxed and went back to petting your back and taking deep breaths.
The two of you laid for a long time, surrounded by each other's breathing and grounding in the heat of the sheets and the white noise of the world. You remained in some sort of a daze for most of it, the memories fading, but just leaving you numb and out of it.
“More water?” Keigo asked, tentatively kissing your clammy forehead.
You nodded, sitting up slowly and rubbing a hand over your cheeks. The air felt less suffocating, your mind calmer, but you still felt like shit—
“Drink,” Keigo brought the glass to your lips with a combination of his hands and feathers.
You gulped down half of the freshened water, letting a bit dribble past the corner of your lips. The leftovers were swept away by your thumb and rubbed in your hot cheeks. The cold was a grounding, and the world was finally stilling as you needed it to.
“You didn’t do anything wrong,” You met Keigo’s gaze from where he sat across from you. He sat upright and on his knees, hands and wings folded to his center. The posture made him look smaller as he watched you. His bright eyes took you in as well as they could, but you could sense he was still a little on edge.
Your words made his brows shoot up.
“I should be telling you that, not the other way around,” Keigo bit his lip and frowned.
You snatched his hands in yours, “We both need it. I need you to know I’m not upset.”
“You... should be. At least a little.”
You gave a little shake of your head, thick in your resolve.
Keigo stayed silent before taking a deep breath, wings readjusting with thought, “I suppose you don’t want to talk about it?”
“I... I don’t,” Maybe sometime, but not now. “But, I still need you to know you didn’t do anything wrong. It just moved too fast for me and I got...”
You lost your words and your vision went hazy at the bedsheets once more.
“Overwhelmed?” He finished your sentence with a squeeze of your hands.
“Yeah, fuck, that’s the word,” You shook your head. “I’m still not feeling great.”
“That’s okay, “ Keigo assured you with another squeeze. “Can I help at all?”
You shook your head once more.
Not right now, not more than you’ve already done.
“Just be here, if that’s okay? Like you have been.” You fully intertwined your fingers, noticing the remnants of something dark under his fingernails. More than likely dirt, but it was still a reminder. “It’s just nice to have you close.”
Everyone has their demons.
“Can I still kiss you?” Keigo asked as you dragged him under the covers.
You mussed on it, wondering if it would bring back the thick fog and panic.
“Only a little,” You told him, once again burying yourself in him. “I’ll let you know if it’s too much.”
It was more than enough for the two of you.
Keigo tilted your jaw up with his palm, giving you the gentlest kiss he could. His touch remained firm everywhere else, but he was tentative in giving you the space you needed.
He pulled away and you tuck yourself under his chin.
“Thank you.”
Keigo’s wing stretched over you, blocking out whatever thoughts and ills clawed toward you. In a wordless squeeze, he said all that needed to.
‘Of course.’

Gorya—the iceberg is melting
Tumblr media
When Gorya made the decision to run to Thyme at the end of episode three, everyone was expecting THE iconic hug. Me too BTW.
Interestingly enough, we never got it. Not yet. But the internal conflict that she had to go through, to abandon her friend, decide not to repair her phone — hello gen Z and millennials — would you leave ALL of these important things / people behind to check if the person who’s been bullying you… might be waiting for you in the rain? I’m never going anywhere without my phone. You have to appreciate the monumental weight of her actions, and considering their past and how she perceived him.
Tumblr media
Did something shift, when she heard him talk about how he would NEVER wait for anyone? Or when his sister said he never chased after a girl before? Or the sleazy man telling her in the escort bar that she should take interest in someone who likes her? (I hate that logic, BTW but for someone like Gorya stepping outside of her MO to bridge the gap between them is essential to the story.)
Being the first is intoxicating.
Lemme explain.
Once you know you’re becoming someone’s first love, that something inside you / about you evoked their romantic feelings ABOVE anyone else and this boi rich— you’re likely not going to ignore it.
Especially since Thyme broke so many boundaries to get to her in the most childish— bordering on obsessive behaviour. He cute tho excuse doesn’t cover the fact he nearly had her shave her hair off. I will never forgive him for that lol since I mention it in every post.
So she runs to check. But in her head she’s calculating. He won’t be there. Not for me. I’m not that important. I’m not special. He won’t be there.
Right? And then she sees him standing there, soaking wet and her heart extends and olive branch in the form of an umbrella and…
*Crickets*
Tumblr media
Thyme thrusts the umbrella away. Legit slaps it out of her hand.
Tumblr media
I died.
Thank you show writers for not underestimating her feelings and the characters sticking to their true selves.
Thyme: anger (misplaced. What he really wanted was that hug obviously!)
Gorya: sympathy / confusion / shock / shit shit shit / puppy look cute all wet *scratch that*
Tumblr media
Which he rejected, right? By getting angry. He’s glad she’s there but wants to grasp why she made him wait and it’s him being scared that he actually waited and she showed up. Now what?! Like for real. She came???
For a boi who’s sitting alone in his mansion waiting for his family to show up and they rarely do and when they do barely acknowledge him and if they do it’s to fight… I mean you can see how easily he’d interpret her fighting as invitation to love. Innit?
Their feelings are respected so thank you writers 💋
What does happen though during the episode is that they become vulnerable with each other and start relating to e/o like two teenagers, sharing the trails of tribulations, learning things about e/o, getting curious and gently & slowly peeling layers.
Gorya is staring to see that he’s more than just
- a posh gangster
- Dummy
- Tiger print
- Pretty face
- Rich spoiled brat with mommy issues
She sees that
- he cares enough to bring her medicine
- Meets the parents wearing actual good boi clothes outfit ™️
- Is polite ??? at dinner
- He’s an abandoned puppy
- Wants his friends to treat her with respect
- He reads her when she’s uncomfortable
- He isn’t a complete cesspool person because he cancels her red card
- Likes her
- Offers to help with the fallen gate (my favourite moment)
- He is willing to be open even in front of her family
- He doesn’t get jealous 🥰 and instead ends up foreshadowing the romance while shitting on himself and praising Ren I mean Gorya’s iceberg is melting and we are here to witness it ladies and gents and non binary friends.
Tumblr media
Things I’ll never get over:
Gorya standing up against the gate at her house when Thyme drops her off.
She says she wants expecting the (they dropped calling it non date so it’s a date MFs) date to be like *points to disaster*
He stands closer to her.
Gorya realises she’s outnumbered.
I can hear her internal panic when he leans in to remove the piece of fluff from her hair…
Wow. I think she realises he’s pretty good looking…
Only for Thyme to sneeze.
Bless.

Tangled Salt Marathon - Be Very Afraid
Tumblr media
This is the best story arc episode in season three and arguably the best written episode since The Great Tree, but it’s still season three so there are still issues with it.
Summary: When Zhan Tiri tells Cassandra she must destroy Rapunzel in order to wield the Moonstone's true power, Cassandra discovers that she can create, with fear, red rock spikes that cause fear and freeze their victims. Varian discovers the red rocks and teams up with Rapunzel to use his amber solution on them. Meanwhile, Eugene and Lance decide to throw a talent show to distract everyone from their fears.
Why Can’t Cassandra Control The Rocks?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The series never gives an actual explanation for this. She could control them just fine in Rapunzel’s Return, so what’s changed?
There is No Destiny!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s no prophecy, no oracle, no grand design nor master of fate to fight back against; the characters literally have no reason to do what they do. If you want destiny to be a goal then you have to establish what that destiny is first.
What does Cassandra want? How does this connect back to Gothel, Rapunzel, and the Moonstone? Why she just failing about like an idiot here? Did she not have a plan when she threw her life away for this stupid rock?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course Zhan Tiri is lying here, but why should Cassandra believe her? What does she gain by listening to a creepy ghost girl? This ‘destiny’ has not been established, so therefore there’s no hook nor bait for Zhan Tiri to trap her with.
Tumblr media
Leading directly into “you should kill your bestie’ should logically put Cassandra off of Zhan Tiri’s advice for good because Zhan Tiri isn’t actually offering anything. Temptation requires the person to be, you know, tempted by what they want, but Cassandra doesn’t know what she wants so none of this makes sense.
The writing is desperately trying to make Cass sympathetic here, but all it winds up doing is making her look like a moron instead.
This Isn’t Consistent
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not only does this fail to explain why Cass could control the rocks previously but no longer can, but it’s also contradicted just a couple of episodes later with the incantation bullshit.
You need an established magic system in place in order for the character’s actions to make sense show!
This Ultimately Goes Nowhere
Tumblr media
Ignoring how Varian should have been in season two and how translating the scroll should have led to freeing his father, which we’ve talked about previously; this subplot should have had more impact on the narrative than it actually did. Yes, Varian’s translation winds up driving the plot of Cassandra’s Revenge, but 90% of that episode winds up being utterly pointless, including the incantations themselves, so....
Tumblr media
I Like This Sequence; Shame It Winds Up Being Undermined Later
Tumblr media
Unlike the majority of dream sequences in this show, this nightmare has an actual point. It more firmly establishes Varian’s fears and gives the audience some insight into what happened to him back in season one. Something we were sorely lacking. It also becomes the core conflict and drive of Varian’s character development through out the episode.
Only for the episode to ignore Varian’s real issues and fail to adequately address anything. By series end this plot point will be completely forgotten. The show acts like bringing it up once and then never acknowledging it ever again just magically revolves Varian’s character arc. It doesn’t.
So How Come Quirin Isn’t Affected By the Rocks?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He’s right there next to them and he shows no reaction to them at all. You’re telling me the man who lost his home twice to these things, almost died to them, and nearly lost his only child because of them, is just not going to respond to new creepy red ones popping up?
Quirin would have a treasure trove of trauma to explore in his own right, that undoubtedly would connect back to Varian’s own issues, but we’re just going to ignore it and have Quirin off screen for the majority of the episode?
Tumblr media
Are These New Character Models?
Tumblr media
Are you shitting me!?
They built five new models just for a short two minute scene, one where none of the new characters are named nor given lines, only to never appear ever again!
What the fuck? Why did you waste time and money on this? What happened to all of the other background characters you already built? Did a bunch of season one models just get lost or deleted or something?
Also why are they all wearing green? Is it St. Paddy’s Day?
This Plot Point Wasn’t Established Enough Beforehand
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look, I’ll buy that there are people in Corona who still blame Varian for what happened in season one and for the Sapoiran take over. I mean they’re only getting half the story and were directly effected by his actions whether or not he intended harm to them. But we needed to see more of it beyond just this one scene.
No one was bullying him in Lost Treasure or The King and Queen of Hearts, so for all purposes he appeared to be integrated back into society, and now you’re telling me he’s not and that Rapunzel risked his well being by forcing him to interact with people who were hostile to him back in Lost Treasure?
And yeah you can’t really move Lost Treasure back any further than it already is cause that’d leave a giant hole in the wall of the throne room for over a year. Which also makes no sense either.
Or hey, maybe it’s just Feldspar being an asshole. In which case why should Varian or the audience care?
Eugene is Wasted
Tumblr media
Look I understand that there’s only twenty five minutes to tell this story and that Eugene isn’t the focus of the episode. I also understand that the B-plot is meant to be comedic in order to relive tension from the A plot, but this wasn’t the best way to go about it.
The B plot swings too far wide in the other direction that it dilutes the tension too much. The A plot now has to work over time to keep the urgency going. I could understand it, if the show wanted start off with small fears first, but it needed to ramp up the drama as it got closer to the climax, not under cut it.
We never see Eugene freak out over anything other this this cowlick. In fact we never see him scared of anything else beyond this one scene, which undermines Rapunzel’s arc this episode as she’s suppose to be the only one bottling things in. What makes Eugene so special that he can keep a lid on it with out consequences, or are you telling me that a dumb cowlick is his only fear?
Either answer is stupid.
I Hope You Have Copies of the Map
Tumblr media
You went through all that trouble to steal the journal for this very reason and now here you are prancing around without it like it’s not that big of deal. Way to undermined past story arcs.
It’s like the writers know that season one was their most successful season, and therefore try to make callbacks to it whenever they can, to make up for ignoring it in season two completely, but they still don’t want to actually acknowledge anything that happened during that season so they just refer to it in the laziest way possible, rendering the previous events pointless.
So Close and Yet So Far
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m mainly posting this whole conversation so that you dear readers will have context for what I talk about next.
For you see, this scene starts out okay and it looks like we’re finally going to address the elephant in the room regarding Rapunzel’s involvement in Varian’s past trauma, only for the scene to immediately side step the issue all together and not resolve the conflict at all.
No! Don’t Interrupt; Listen!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or at least go all the way and accept some of the blame yourself.
It may look like Rapunzel is comforting Varian here on a superficial level, but without her verballing acknowledging what she did wrong, this action just winds up taking the focus off of Varian and what he needs and places it upon Rapunzel, both narratively and physically.
So what happens is that, in universe, it comes across like she’s just consoling Varian for her own personal comfort rather than genuinely trying to help.
Why Would Varian Ever Think This?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, first off this has nothing to do with what Varian was talking about previously. Why would he jump from discussing his trauma to praising Rapunzel? You know the woman who is responsible for said trauma?
Secondly, this switches the focus of the conflict off of Varian’s specific trauma and makes it about a generic “over coming fear” lesson mixed with an out of place validation issue. Which is not what’s actually needed for his character development; nor for Rapunzel’s for that matter.
Third, being the sundrop has nothing to do with Rapunzel as a person. Her being born with magical powers was an accident of fate, same as her being royalty. She’s not innately better than anybody else because of this and nobody has any narrative reason to assume otherwise. Especially since her powers are utterly disconnected from her actual personality, choices, and actions. All three of which have become unbearably unpleasant by the last season.
Finally, Varian, of all people should be the last person on earth to ever think so highly of Rapunzel. Them being friends again is already pushing believability. Him suddenly kissing her ass the same as everyone else this season is just flat out bad writing.
Varian knows better than anybody what an awful person Rapunzel is. He’s seen her at her worse. He’s seen her not live up to her hypocritical ideals. He knows the larger problems that steam from placing people in power on pedestals. As her former victim, Varian by all accounts should be the one person who can bring Rapunzel down to earth and poke holes into her ego, even while still being her friend. Especially while still being her friend. She needs that! Writing Varian as another blind Rapunzel stan is not only writing him out of character, but it also damages Rapunzel’s own development.
Also Varian hates magic. Why would he now worship someone just for having magic?
THIS AIN’T ABOUT YOU BITCH!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I literally yelled that at my tv screen when I first saw this scene. Those were my exact words upon the episode’s first airing. And believe it or not, I’m not one to usually scream obscenities at inanimate objects.
I understand what the writers were trying to accomplish here. They wanted Rapunzel to ease the tension by saying something funny and to make Varian laugh to distract him from his woes; thereby defusing the situation. But it doesn’t work because of season three’s tendency to make Rapunzel the most egotistical, smug, self-centered, abusive, self-righteous twat in the show.
It really boggles the mind just how unaware the writing is. Like, surely no one makes their protagonist this unlikable on accident. Clearly they meant for Rapunzel to be an ass on purpose right?  They wanted Cass to have a reason to hate her so they decided to make her insufferable to the viewer in a misguided attempt to make Cass more sympathetic? Right?
Then where is the bloody comeuppance?
I genuinely thought this was all going to lead somewhere. That Rapunzel was going to learn to be a better person and I would have been fine by that. I would have applauded the show if they had turned her into an asshole intentionally so that they could teach a mature and nuanced lesson about morality.
But they didn’t, and here I am; still shaking my head in confusion over a year later.
Seriously what the fuck happened behind the scenes to cause this? How can processionals paid by the largest animation company in the world be so incompetent?
Having Trauma is Not the Same Thing as Having a Phobia
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is where Varian’s arc falls apart. Not only does the episode fail to have Rapunzel acknowledge her past wrongs for a second time, but it also completely mishandles Varian’s trauma because it equates it to being an irrational fear. One that can be overcome through pure force of will at that, same as Lance and everyone else’s fears in the episode.
Ok first off Varian’s fear isn’t irrational. He even just said so at the start of the conversation. Varian’s trauma is very real, it’s not a hypothetical unlike clown-spiders and cowlicks. Also has been given very little reassurance that it won't happen again. Varian has no reason to trust Rapunzel or anybody else in the show. They never owned up to abandoning him previously, and both he and the audience have little reason to believe that Rapunzel wouldn’t just neglect him again if it was convenient for her.
Secondly one does not simply ‘overcome’ trauma. Oh you can deal with trauma, you can manage it and learn to live with it. But it never goes away. It doesn’t magically disappear just because you ‘faced it’.
In fact confronting it head on is actually the opposite of what your suppose to do when going through something traumatic. Studies have shown that distracting your mind after a car crash or what have you actually helps with PTSD later on. And ‘dealing with it” doesn’t mean ignoring the problem out right, but rather learning how to function despite the pain.
But as the show acts like Varian’s trauma never even existed after this episode.
This Doesn’t Resolve Anything!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What does “being special” have to with fear? How does this help Varian with his trauma? Empty validation has nothing to with what we were just discussing.
Everyone gets afraid. Everyone has trauma of some sort. Are you telling me that my need for therapy some 20 years after being physically assaulted is just because I’m not special enough? Fuck you show!
Moreover, this doesn’t resolve the story arc from season one. Varian and Rapunzel’s conflict with each other has nothing to do with self esteem. It was about personal responsibility, conflicting needs, and abuse. Yes, self image and acceptance was a small factor in their motivations, but it was never the driving goal behind their decisions.
This is yet another broken narrative promise to the audience. There’s no closure to be had from this and leaves the viewer wanting, if not outright frustrated.
In order to justify this exchange fans have to ‘read between the lines’ and make shit up in order for any of this to make any sense. People who still defend season three do by doing all the heavy lifting that writers themselves should be doing.
If it’s not on screen, it doesn’t count.
If Rapunzel never apologizes on screen, then she never apologized. If Rapunzel never checked up on Varian on screen, then she neglected him outright. If Rapunzel never acknowledges her wrong doings on screen, then she’s never learned anything. The characters pretending like she has doesn’t make it so.
Why Does Cassandra Even Want a Destiny?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, Zhan Tiri is lying, there is no destiny, but Zhan Tiri being a liar doesn’t absolve Cassandra of her own actions.
Cassandra herself believes in destiny and is looking for her’s, but why?
Why does she want a destiny? What is this destiny she’s after? Why does she believe such a thing exists? What does she believe it’ll gain her? Why is she willing to risk so much for such a vague goal? What does any of this have to do with the moonstone or her mother? How does this destiny connect back with her personal feud with Rapunzel?
It’s all disjointed and confused. Nothing lines up. It’s like the writers just had this dart board full of ideas for Cassandra’s villain arc, but couldn’t decide on which one to go with, so they just threw darts randomly each episode and went with whatever stuck for any given scene.
“Oh she want’s revenge for her mother during this scene, or wait no, she’s actually looking for destiny this episode?” “What destiny?” “Who knows. Now for this scene we need her to be sad because reasons...” “What reason?” “I don't care, make something up... Uuuuh, she’s sad cause she’s not a royal guard still” “But she became a guard during season one.” “Ignore that. Kids won’t remember. Now she needs to be angry and threating here” “Why?” “Because it’ll look cool.” “But why is she angry?” “Cause it looks cool Bob! Geez! Oh but she still needs to be sympathetic so give her a frowny face afterwards. Just have Zhan Tiri remind her how much she hates Rapunzel later, so as to egg her on and keep her doing stupid shit?”  “But why does she hate Rapunzel?”  “Do I have to think of everything BOB!!!???”
There, there’s my non-so-accurate behind the scene’s glimpse into the Tangled writer’s room when discussing Cassandra’s arc. I could be wrong. There could have been some intricate and complex plan thought out that just didn’t make it onto the screen for whatever reason, or maybe everyone involved was so far up their own ass that they just forgot to give their main villain an actual reason for being the villain. But regardless the over all effect is that Cassandra is handed the idiot ball for a whole freaken season in order to even have a conflict and that is never good writing; or rather she’s hit in the head with it repeatedly.
This Actually Goes Against Zhan Tiri’s Plan
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zhan Tiri’s short term goal is to be released from her dimensional prison and apparently she needs Cass and Raps to fight into order to do this. This was never established before hand and goes against her disciples pervious plans, but whatever. One could argue that this is just a lie in order to get them to fight later...
However, this lie jeopardizes her long term goal. She eventually wants to wield both the moonstone and the sundrop herself in order to destroy Corona, but Rapunzel is the sundrop and you can only take her power during an ellipse, supposedly, which means if Cass actually succeeds in killing Rapunzel before then, then Zhan Tiri is up a creek without a paddle. Also if Cassandra did manage to steal Raps’ power with or without an ellipse then Zhan Tiri would still be out of luck.
This was wholly unnecessary; you didn’t have to go from zero to sixty in one fell swoop. Have Zhan Tiri claim that fighting Rapunzel will award the power to the winner or something. There’s no need to bring up the ‘kill her’ option. That should logically just drive Cassandra away and puts Zhan Tiri’s plan at risk.
The series wants to act like Zhan Tiri is this master manipulator, a chess master like Zantos or Palpatine, but she couldn’t even tie their shoes. Her plans make no sense and often contradict one another. They only work because the rest of the cast are reduced to imbeciles in order for them to work.
This Plot Point Contradicts Season Two
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His fear of spiders was establish early on, and I’ll accept the clown thing as there’s nothing to contradict it, but Lance has preformed numerous times before now and has never show stage fright. He’s a huge ham and back in Return of Quaid he mentioned how much loved acting and preforming and apparently been on stage before, so where does this fear of singing in public come from? Heck he sung in public just a few episodes ago in Rapunzel’s Return.
If you have to sacrifice established character into order to make your plot work then you need a new plot.
This Song is Nice; It Just Needed to Be in a Different Episode
Tumblr media
I’m glad Lance got a solo. He deserved one and the song is good. However it breaks the tension of the climax and gives the episode tonal whiplash.
More than a song, Lance needed an actual focus episode in season three. One that was fully his. If anyone else shared it with him it needed to be Red and Angry, not Varian and Cass.
Just imagine if this song came during an episode where he had to watch the girls. Imagine if he was singing it just for them. How much more impactful would that have been?
Now imagine that we had a Rapunzel and Varian duet in it’s place here. That would have tied the episode together better and helped to further their own stories. Glenn Slater can write lyrics far better than Chris can write dialogue. I bet you a thousand to one Tangled the Series would have solved like half of it’s problems had Menken and Slater been allowed write and actual apology duet between Raps and Varian.
Such a duet was proposed during Rapunzel’s Return but it could have worked here too, and you could have placed Lance’s solo in Day of the Animals or something, just leave Rapunzel out of that episode all together.
Nothing honestly needed to be cut music wise, yet for some reason season three has less songs than the other seasons, even when counting the reprises, and they’re mostly shorter too.
That’s mismanagement right there. Plain and simple. Someone at the top didn’t know how to balance the budget or resources and didn’t know where to the throw the money at.
You Have a 70 Foot Shield Made of Magic Hair, Rapunzel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You couldn’t think to just block those rocks instead?
Giving your protagonist a big hero moment doesn’t work if they placed the person the have to save in jeopardy to begin with show.
I Do Not Care About Rapunzel Right Now, Show
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, she’s the main character. Yes, her feud with Cass is the main conflict of the season and kicked off the episode. That does not mean that I automatically care about her personal feelings at this moment in time.
Rapunzel has kept such a tight lid on her real feelings for the whole episode that this just comes out of nowhere. I was never waiting with baited breath for her to confess her deep dark secrets or whatever.
It’s not even an interesting reveal. It’s just “Oh, see Rapunzel’s human too. She’s gets scared just like everybody else.”. I already fucking knew that, thanks. And what she’s afraid of isn’t even that compelling either; it’s a just a rip off of the prophecy dreams she had back in season one. The same ones that had no explanation and never furthered the story, so why should I care about this one?
You have to earn the audience’s investment in your conflict. The character’s likability, as little as that may be currently, will only carry you so far, you have to establish shit first.
Varian’s conflict has been the focus of the entire episode so far, and it’s a conflict that was set all the way back in season one, so of course that is what I’m invested in seeing get resolved. Rapunzel is once again just butting in and making it all about her when it’s not actually her story.
And if you wanted it to be her story then you should have made her the actual focus to begin with and had her learn something by the end of it.
This is Poor Choice of Words, Writers
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I could be generous here and pass this off as Rapunzel not fully believing in this prophecy. After all Corona’s destruction is still a hypothetical at this point and Cassandra really has left already. Since the episode is about fear, Rapunzel is of course more afraid of losing Cassandra’s friendship as it’s real tangible possibility.
More than a possibility even, Rapunzel’s been dumped. Season three is a classic break up story, right down to the poor plotting and tunnel vision, hence why it’s so gay baity.
However, this reading only carries so far. For starters this is Rapunzel’s what, fourth prophecy dream so far? Haven’t the past three already came true, so why would she think this one wouldn’t?
Secondly, all that good grace goes right out the window once it becomes clear that, yes, Cassandra is indeed a threat; a threat that Rapunzel refuses to take seriously because she cares more about her own personal validation than her kingdom.
Even as Cassandra does succeed in destroying Corona, and no doubt harms other people while at it, Rapunzel still is obsessed with ‘winning Cassandra back’. Oh and make no mistake, this is not because she actually cares about Cassandra as a person and her needs or feelings. Nope. Rapunzel just doesn’t like being dumped.
Why Does Varian Need to Shove His Feelings Aside for Rapunzel’s Bullshit?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rapunzel’s ‘confession’ has fuck all to do with Varian’s current issues. They do not connect in any way.
Varian is dealing with real trauma, trauma that she helped cause, while Rapunzel is only dealing with a hypothetical prophecy and one very shallow, self-centered fear. There’s nothing to relate to here. Neither for Varian himself nor the audience.
Yet for some undefined reason this is what gets Varian to ignore his PTSD flashbacks? What?
Tumblr media
This is once again break the narrative promise. I was promised closure for Varian’s story arc and instead of that the writers just brush it up under the rug.
From the outside looking in this doesn’t come across as Varian ‘overcoming’ his ‘fear’. It looks like an abuse victim using learned helplessness to placate his abusers.
And yes, for the last time Rapunzel is Varian’s abuser.
NEGLECT IS ABUSE!!!
And and even though he is no longer her ‘responsibility’, she is still neglecting him emotionally as his supposed friend.
Varian’s and Cassandra’s Stories Undermined Each Other’s
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Varian stopped the rocks. Rapunzel had nothing to do with it. Zhan Tiri blaming Rapunzel for it steals agency away from both her and Cassandra.
However, if Rapunzel had used the hurt incantation to stop the rocks and Cassandra had felt it rom the other side, then you’d have something to back up Zhan Tiri’s claim and an actual point of real conflict to carry the rest of the season. Not to mention an actual tangible goal for Cassandra to work towards, survival.
Cassandra’s conflict with Rapunzel not only prevents the resolution to Varian’s arc from being satisfying, but Varian fulfilling his arc in turn winds up cutting off Cass’s story at the knees.
It didn’t have to be this way. Varian’s and Cassandra’s arcs should have complimented each other, but instead the creator decided to make them complete for screen time and relevance.
It is such an gratingly stupid and petty decision that winds up being a disservice for all the characters involved.
Cassandra’s motivation and goal should have been revealed back in season two. Varian should have been the sole focus of Rapunzel’s Return and gotten his big hero moment there along; with an actual ending to his conflict with Rapunzel that didn’t feel so lopsided and half assed. Then Rapunzel and Cassandra could have both been held accountable for their conflict in season three, instead of pretending like their shit smelled of roses the whole damn time.
Lance Got a Whole Crowd Cheering Him On For Singing a Song, Varian Just Gets One Asshole Giving Him a Single Line of Congratulations
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did I mention this show has an odd anti-Varian bias? Cause it does. For whatever reasons his own creators hate him and that’s just utterly baffling to me. Like why create a main character that you don’t like?
I look down on professional writers who treat characters they didn’t create poorly within their works, like with James Gunn and Scrappy Doo in the Scooby Doo Movie, Adric in the Doctor Who spin offs, or even the treatment of Doofus in Ducktales 2017. I don't care how much a character is liked or disliked by fandom, that shit is just tasteless and often unfunny. But at least I understand where they are coming from when they do it.
But I’ll never understand what compels a writer to sabotage their own work; one that they are getting paid to write no less. Especially when said character is super popular with their fans. And Chris knows this. He knows the ratings plummeted without Varian in season two. He knows the merch didn’t sell because there wasn’t enough Varian products. That’s why he hyped up Varian’s return a whole week before Season Three’s airing with a massive online campaign, but he wasn’t smart enough to treat the character decently afterwards?
I mean congrats, you convinced a just enough viewers to come back to season three to keep the show on the air I guess, but you left them all pissed off and have nothing to show for it to the higher ups a Disney.
And Chris wonders why he wasn’t asked back to work on new Disney princesses shows that are currently in the works.
Tumblr media
That is Not Quirin. That is a Plank of Wood Pretending to be Quirin.
Tumblr media
*Beep* *Boop*...*Dad Bot Is Proud. exe*
Quirin is such a pale shadow of his season one self that he might as well not exist. I genuinely don't know why the writers released from the amber so early if they weren’t actually going to use him until the season finale.
For the longest time I honestly thought that Rapunzel sucked out his soul with that decay incantation; what with that lyric about “setting the spirit free”. I genuinely thought that would be a later plot point, but nope, it’s just bad writing
Him just saying hi to son once and smiling blankly isn’t compelling and it’s isn’t fulfilling. It doesn’t actually resolve his arc. I mean he’s at least shown spending time with his son, but that’s not enough. We need to see him acknowledge past, we need to see him acknowledge his own flaws, and we need to see him being more attentive when Varian is in need. .
Season one Quirin would be trying to stop Varian from going near the red rocks, a post season one Quirin should logically go after his son to make sure he’s alright, even if he’s know longer trying to actively stop Varian like he once did.
There’s also that damn note and it’s secrets!
You know what? That’s it. That’s the problem. The focus is all wrong in season three. Episodes get pulled into to many directions trying to juggle too many characters rather than dedicating the needed time to each individual arc.
Season two’s finale should have been a three parter with Cass’s full motivation and goal laid bare before leaving.
Rapunzel’s Return should have been solely about Rapunzel and Varian’s conflict and resolving that arc fully
Either Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf or Day of the Animals should have been a Lance episode about him and the girl’s, no Rapunzel.
And this episode should have been about Quirin and Varian resolving their issues, with the Rapunzel and Cass stuff as the B plot not the stupid talent show
There, all fixed. You don't even have to cut much, just rework the focus and leave Rapunzel and Cassandra out of conflicts they have no business being in.
This Does Not Excuse Rapunzel’s Later Negligence Regarding Cassandra
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just because the red rocks was an accident doesn’t mean Cassandra should get a free pass for all the awful things she does later. Rapunzel uses this one interaction to excuse everything else Cassandra does in season three, as if she was just some poor lost baby and not a grown ass woman out to kill them.
In fact Cass showing hesitancy here actually makes her later actions even worse. This means that she fully acknowledges that what she’s about to do is wrong, but goes ahead and does anyway, even gleefully so at times. Then she has to gall to act baffled when people see her as a threat? 0.o
When fans say Cass isn’t redeemable or shouldn’t be redeemed, it’s not because he actions are so much worse than everybody else’s (even though they are), It’s because she doesn’t act like she wants to be redeemed half the time. The show doesn’t properly set up her ‘redemption’, instead it just lazily has Rapunzel yell at us how she’s ‘not lost’.
Like below for instance.
What Does Cass Need Saving From?
Tumblr media
Cassandra is not in danger. She is the danger.
She made the conscious decision to leave taking a world endangering artifact with her, and she later makes the conscious decision to come back and be an asshole for no adequately defined reason.
She’s never shown to be in any physical danger from the rocks, the moonstone, or even Zhan Tiri herself. She apparently can take care of herself in the wild for over a year. She also has the capability of getting a job else where and just living out her life if she wanted to. Nothing is forcing her to listen to Zhan Tiri.
Heck, even her hurt arm, the one thing Rapunzel is responsible for and could potentially be a continued threat to Cass’s well being, is just completely forgotten about.
And no, mental illness and past trauma are not excuses as well. In fact it’s rather insulting to both people with mental heath problems and abusive survivors to suggest otherwise. We don't need ‘saving from ourselves’ and we aren’t automatically dangers to anybody. Nor do we get free passes if we hurt someone. A jerk who happens to have a mental illness is just a jerk who so happens to have a mental illness; coloration is not causation.
Conclusion
It’s better than Rapunzel’s Return, but this episode was still a disappointment. A small part of me whishes this was a two parter because it has so much untapped potential, but I know it’s just be wasted in Chris’s hands.
Anyways, I consider this to be the true mid-season finale of S3. Not only did the hiatus kick in after this episode, but it also clearly divides the season between the first half filler and the later Cass conflict. As such the next entry will be the mid-season recap. See ya, then.

I’ve got to get this off my chest.
Full disclosure: I’ve watched New Amsterdam from the beginning and I love this show! The medical/societal issues that they tackle on a regular basis are so relevant and the storylines are very compelling. I’m a fan of all the characters and particularly of the Max and Helen relationship. I’ve been rooting for them from Day 1 and I’m loving where the writers are taking them in season 4. You can’t get full joy without tackling trauma these characters (Helen) have gone through. It’s a journey, so let’s enjoy that. Fans are reducing Helen’s character to just a love interest for Max and that’s really frustrating. She is so much more than that and is her own person. Unfortunately, in order to be a Sharpwin fan these days, that means you have to:
1. Attack other actors for not tagging Freema in social media posts. I have to say, this is laughable. Judging the cast’s relationship with each other solely based on IG interactions is eight year old behavior. The fact that grown adult fans are doing this on Twitter is pathetic.
2. Complain incessantly if you don’t get a Max/Helen scene in an episode and then lash out at the other actors and producers. Whattttt ?!?!
3. Be upset and hateful if actors praise people other than Ryan and Freema. Again, eight year old behavior. I actually feel so much second hand embarrassment here.
4. Bully the other cast members and pit them against each other. Especially the two women. If one is getting praise in one episode, let’s drag her instead of acknowledging she did a good job and also praise the other. But no, let’s please bully.
For the record, Freema is my favorite on the show. I think she does an excellent job depicting Helen and is a terrific actress. I’ve admired her for a long time and she kills it in every episode.
However, the fandom has become so toxic that I’m afraid this is going to create unnecessary drama between the cast (it has happened on other shows before). Luckily, I believe this cast is intelligent enough to realize that this is fans just stirring up drama. I wish people wouldn’t get so riled up (over stupid IG post tagging) and stop lashing out at this cast. Everyone seems to get along really well and just because they don’t post about their lives every minute doesn’t mean they don’t all like each other. Let’s enjoy the show, characters without spewing hatred. Let’s be kind to one another instead of attacking the cast. It’s getting ridiculous. This show is excellent. It’s a medical drama and of course, the medicine is going to come first. The fact that people think an episode is horrible because of no Sharpwin interaction and don’t even care about the societal issues they are writing about makes me sad. That’s what New Amsterdam is about. That’s what it has always been about. Yes, the relationships and character growths are a huge part of the show too but attacking cast members on Twitter because they praised one cast member and not your favorite one is juvenile behavior. Let’s rise above that and enjoy the show for what it is. If you don’t like it because your favorite couple doesn’t have a scene together in one episode and that makes you start bullying people on Twitter/IG, then stop watching. But let’s please stop the attacks, hateful/negative behavior and the bullying. End of the day, it’s just a TV show. These are fictional characters. Let’s try to remember that.

Baby HC
Akitaru Obi
Obi cheered when Y/N told him the news and hugged her tight
Too tight, he was worried he’d squished the baby
He wouldn’t let Y/N do anything for the first few months
Y/N appreciated the gesture but told him firmly that she was pregnant, not dying
When Y/N got bad morning sickness he sent her to bed and made her something to help calm her stomach
Cleaned up the vomit without complaint
He brought his work to their room so he could stay with her
Will go out on ‘cravings’ trips at a moment’s notice
He loves to talk to the bump
Obi was there for the birth to give his support
He nearly ran out to show everyone his newborn… the baby was still attached to Y/N
Hinawa Takehisa
Went very quiet at the news, sat down and removed his glasses
He wasn’t crying, there was something in his eye
Made a strict list of what activities could be dangerous for Y/N and the baby
Y/N was fine with this and requested Shinra and Arthur to be her lackeys; this was agreed
Hinawa made teas, got cool flannels and rubbed Y/N’s back when she got morning sickness
Had no issue cleaning up vomit but that’s what recruits are for
Hinawa continued working as usual but checked in on Y/N often
Will try to negotiate whether a ‘cravings’ trip was absolutely needed – sent Vulcan to get it
Will be touching the bump every chance he got
Hinawa was present at the birth to go through breathing excercises
He got something in his eye when he saw his baby, he wasn’t crying…
Leonard Burns
Was shocked at the news and needed to sit and process it for a second
Grinned like an idiot and kissed Y/N until she was breathless
He tried to be around more so Y/N took care of herself, tried to help wherever he could
Y/N knows he’s busy and tries to play off her tiredness
When he was there and morning sickness hit, he sat with her and held her until she felt better
Had to force Y/N to bed because she insisted on cleaning up – not on his watch
Burns calls several times a day to check on Y/N
Will buy her anything she wants and have it delivered, this includes things she looked at for more than 2 seconds
Burns likes to sit her in his lap and stroke the bump, he feels bad that it got so big while he was away
He missed the birth but he tried his hardest to get there, Burns praises Y/N and presses kisses to her temple over and over
Ignores calls all day to marvel at his tiny baby
Karim Flam
Made a high pitched sound and nearly choked on air
He hugged Y/N close and couldn’t get a proper sentence out
Y/N wasn’t allowed to do anything, Karim always appeared out of nowhere to help
She threatened to beat him to death if he didn’t calm down, Foien played mediator
Karim moved his work around so that he could be with her when she got morning sickness, he was good at cooling her down when she was too hot
Cleaning up vomit is easy if you freeze it first
When he couldn’t check in on Y/N he sent Foien… he’s the Sol Father afterall.
Karim tries to swap out her ‘cravings’ for healthier options – the main word being, ‘tries’
He loves the bump, he’d likes the way Y/N looks with it and he loves to play music to it
Birth traumatised him. He wasn’t sure what to do, Y/N may have been possessed and he nearly got a concussion
Karim was really nervous of holding his baby but when a tiny hand wrapped around his finger… mjeigfh!!!
Charon
Y/N’s what? Really? Are you sure? A baby? Like a real baby? Did I do that?!
The man grinned from ear to ear all day and carried Y/N around like a trophy
Charon has lackeys for his lackeys and he’s ordered them to do everything for Y/N
Y/N insisted that that was an overreaction and threatened to burn him and his lackeys if they didn’t back off
Providing he’s not doing something he can’t ignore, Charon would help Y/N with her morning sickness
He’s very gentle when he helps her clean-up, a little vomit doesn’t bother him
Charon has taken to secretly checking on Y/N because she said he’s too much
He joins in on the ‘cravings’ even the weird ones
Constantly touching the bump. Asking the bump questions until Y/N makes him stop
The man hates when Y/N is in pain, he hates that he did that to them and helps throughout the birth
He holds Y/N and his baby close all day, telling them both how perfect they are
Joker/52
You’re kidding right…? Right? Oh… Oh. Joker has a small crisis but manages to keep it to internal screaming
Once he’s over the shock of it, Joker cries and he’s not sure why because he’s so happy
He’s ridiculously cautious. He won’t let Y/N lift a finger and worries constantly
Y/N has to sit him down and explain she’s not going to break
Joker thought she was dying, she looked terribly and she was throwing up and she was definitely broken
When Y/N gets upset that she made a mess he takes the time to help her change and comforts her
Duvet days, he stays in bed with her and rubs her stomach to help her nausea
He will literally steal from children if they have something Y/N is ‘craving’. If she wants it then she’s getting it
It’s so round! Joker likes to gently poke it and wait for the baby to move
!!!!!
He’s crying. He’s emotional and tired and looks worse than Y/N after giving birth – he loves them so much
Shinmon Benimaru
He nodded his head slowly in acknowledgment when Y/N told him, giving him a moment to absorb it
Beni’s eyes are little watery because of allergies and he hugs Y/N close for a long moment
Beni is stubborn and scolds Y/N anytime she does something vaguely labour intensive
Y/N is just as stubborn and carrying paperwork isn’t going to kill her
His boots were the first casualty of morning sickness, he wasn’t happy about being thrown up on but Beni pat her back and helped her through the worst
Cleaning up vomit is beneath him… however he’s happy to help Y/N clean up herself
He can’t force Y/N to go back to bed but he can declare naptime, using her lap as a pillow and forcing her to stay put
Refuses to get her weird ‘cravings’ but that’s what the twins and Konro are for
The bump takes up all the room on Y/N’s lap so Beni has no choice but to use the bump as a pillow, Y/N complains it tickles when her traces patterns on it
Beni was upset that he missed the birth, he had wanted to be there for Y/N but he had needed to protect the town from an attack.
He won’t let go of his baby, if you want to hold his baby you better be willing to fight him – or be Y/N
Sagamiya Konro
He wasn’t surprised but he was so happy. Konro lifted Y/N into a hug and grinned like a fool before announcing it to anyone near by
Konro had been trying to get Y/N pregnant since she had said she wouldn’t mind it
He helps out with everything he can but Konro doesn’t treat Y/N like glass, he is a little more protective
Y/N thinks he over reacted when one of the Hikeshi let her carry a heavy box - poor guy thought he was going to die
The amount of times she had cleaned up after him and looked after him when he was sick, he didn’t even think to complain when she threw up
Konro makes Y/N tea to settle her stomach and helps her relax
Her ‘cravings’ are strong and he is very concerned… however, he’ll get her anything she wants
Konro feels immense pride when he sees her bump, he’d like to keep her like that forever
Konro stayed with Y/N during the birth, helping them breathe and acting as a pillow when they needed the support
His baby is the most perfect thing in the world, he can’t want to have another…and another.

Note
I really liked the idea of the brothers having chronic pain/image problems/general bad feelings due to falling so if it’s ok I’d like a little headcanon of MC helping them when they’re feeling down with these issues
Thank you for the request luv, I like this head cannon too, the boys need some love
This took me two days to write and I'm now so tired ngl but I love this one 🥺💕
gn M/C helping brothers with pain after the fall
under the cut v
Chronic pain
Lucifer
After the fall he always struggled with his wings
They seemed to weigh him down more after they were burned, the ash making them heavy as a constant reminder
He used his demon form a lot to intimidate others but was always somewhat ashamed of it
His pride was bruised from this form he had taken
On some days you would have to calm him down as he would constantly shift between forms, restless the entire day
Whisper words of praise to him as he's half asleep in your arms
He would fight you for a but denying anything was wrong but would give up if you pressed
Please press the issue, nothing will come of it if you don't.
Massage his back, his wings hurt and cramp up his muscles and he's always so tense
Just sit in silence and hold him
Be careful around his scars, be gentle, he doesn't like to acknowledge them
Just let him hold onto you, he needs something to ground him
Leviathan
When Leviathan fell his one wing had already been torn off, his other having broken when he hit the ground
He has little scars still on his back
Like Lucifer hates them, please be gentle around them
Stroke lines down his back
They still hurt sometimes when he's reminded of it, he loved his wings and is jealous of his brothers most days
When he goes into demon form, he most likely is shifted off-balance really easily, is used to having wings and suddenly has a tail??
This man is so insecure about his form
Praise him and don't let him insult back, just keep saying nice things until he gets too tired to respond
His back aches already from sitting over his computer constantly
Give him back massages and play with his hair
Put your hand on his lower back while walking around, he gets all flustered the first time but it really does help
Make him tea when he's in pain, and help him stand first thing in the morning
Image issues
Asmodeus
Asmodeus used to be the jewel of the Celestial, he was beautiful and knew it
When he feel he felt a piece of his shiny beauty fall apart
He did not handle the fall well at all, like Levi praise him
Do little things while complimenting him, make him tea, braid his hair, hold him
Ask him to show you demon form, it might take a bit of convincing but when he does lay him back and just shower him with praise
Kiss his wings and tell him how beautiful they are, kids his hand, his eyes, him
He needs reassurance, please promise him that you're telling the truth
He feels the need to prove to everyone his beauty, but let him know that you already are aware of it.
Mammon
He dealt with his demon form by trying to ignore it
Yes it's flashy and a lot, just like his personality, but he's never really paid attention to it
Some days he will wake up and without the weight of his wings will feel broken
He tried not to show it but you know
hold him, cradle his face in your hands and just hold him
Let him cry, he's already tearing up and grabbing onto your arms
Lay back down with him and let him fall back asleep
Lucifer isn't going to be very happy you're missing school but text him why and he’ll leave you alone
Mammon will also scare himself sometimes seeing his form in a mirror can make him flinch, he doesn't hate the form he just hates what it means and represents
He doesn't want praise or anything, that feels too forced, so just wrap your arms around his wait and stay there
Stay with him and hum something to calm him down
He's never actually dealt with these emotions before you so let him talk for hours
Bad Thoughts / Mentality
Beelzebub
Beel barely remembered the fall
He only knew that he grabbed Belphie and sudden was in the Devildom
He didn't even realise for a while just kind of sat there until someone guided him
He's going to need tight cuddles
He doesn't really care about his own demon form he just hates what his brother have to go through
Still believe most of it was his fault
Please reassure him it's not
Hold him and lay his head in your lap
He wants to just hold you in his arms or constantly have an arm on you shoulder when your around his brothers
He has to know you're still there and won't leave him like Lilith
He will become very quiet and try to make himself as small as possible
Try and distract him with sleepy hugs and cuddles
He won't let you go and that's alright
Talk him through it
Let him cry with you
Satan
He wasn't actually there for the fall
He feels as if he could have done more and blames himself
Maybe if he had been there he could have saved Lilith, maybe Levi would still have his wings if he hadn't had to fight alone
He would never admit it to his brothers but one night he told you everything
He doesn't cry he just spaces out and can't focus
The days where he can't even read, and get frustrated, read to him
Have him lay down with you beside him petting his hair and read his favourite mystery novels
He already knows all the ending but loves to hear your little gasps of surprise
Ask him questions about the books, rambling about his interests will get his mind off it and he will eventually fall asleep in your arms
Belphegor
Belphie also feels responsible
Why hadn't Beel chosen Lilith?
He doesn't blame Beel but instead blames himself
If he could have only fought better and paid more attention this wouldn't have happened
He would try to play it off as being tired but you can see the tears in his eyes
Tuck his face into your neck and whisper that it isn't his fault
On other days he will either sleep for a week or being up all the time which makes him incredibly angry
He gets into fights with his brother constantly like this
You've had to drag him out of multiple rooms before it could get worse
Pet his hair and let him sleep
Trap him by laying on top of him and not letting him get up until he falls asleep
He likes the sound of your voice so maybe talk about your day while he relaxes
His brothers are thankful you can calm him down because they getting worried about him
He's not good with emotions so you’ll have to coach him through everything
Have little talks sessions every week for each other

What It's Like (Morgan & Hotch)
Read on ao3 here
Summary: Everything was supposed to be over.
Everything was over.
Right until state troopers had cuffed him, read him his rights and left him in a cell to be interrogated by a snarky son-of-a-bitch detective. Right until the team just had to get involved. Right until Buford insisted it was his help which had made Derek into himself now. Right until Hotch and Gideon stood there and heard and knew.
OR: Buford is arrested; Hotch and Morgan have a conversation.
Warnings: implied/referenced childhood sexual abuse + domestic abuse, internalized victim-blaming (not actively blaming himself for abuse, but 'I should be over it' type thinking)
Words: 2.6k
Written as platonic, could be pre-slash if you want
It shouldn’t affect him.
He shouldn’t even be here. Derek had laid it to rest the last time he’d spoken to Buford, and though it took him a couple of years to work through the overwhelmingly intense emotions he’d never let himself feel, he had reached a state he’s content with. When it crosses his mind every now and then – much more frequently when they have a similar case – the memories aren’t so sharp and stay in their box most of the time. He’s accepted he’ll never live without it but as far as things go, he’s living with it as well as he can.
Everything was supposed to be over.
Derek paces outside the rec centre, awash in flickering red and blue from the car they’d stuffed Buford into. It shouldn’t affect him but here he is, a tight knot of dread in his chest and a bitter anger burning hot in his face. His clenched jaw aches and it takes a conscious effort to stop. He’s a teenager again in the worst way – furious at the world, at Buford, at himself for caring about it.
And Buford is under arrest, his personable father figure persona falling through at last, but the smallest, most selfish part of him asks if it’s worth it. For him to be dragged out here and accused of murder and stripped of dignity and secrets.
(It is. Derek would do it again in a heartbeat if it stopped more boys getting hurt, but that doesn’t mean he can’t hate every last second.)
He’ll have to tell Mom and his sisters, but Mom—it’s going to destroy her. She will blame herself for letting it happen, for not noticing, hate herself for every late shift and early start and no amount of arguing will ever truly make her understand it’s not her fault. Derek just hopes she doesn’t find out before he can tell her himself, soften the blow a little; his mind conjures up the same cop who’d arrested him, exhausted and apathetic in the eyes, spitting it out with no regard to the damage it can do.
Better than winding up in jail for a murder he didn’t commit, Derek reasons. The victory rings hollow when the prize is stripping back his skin and muscle and laying his insides bare for everyone to see, his blood as ink spelling out the ugly story. Breaking his family’s hearts.
The worst part is he’s not supposed to be angry. All the team ever did was their jobs and if Hotch had listened to him, had backed off, Derek wouldn’t be here now to be pissed at him. But that does little to soothe the sting. His secret on display just like that.
He paces and he breathes and he swallows down the anger but it’s too much to store away for later, his next trip to one of his properties and a sledgehammer in hand. Too raw. Too real.
Because he thought he was over it.
(It’s not fair. Why was it him? Why was it the boy before? Why was it the boy after? What unfortunate string of experiences led to Carl Buford deciding he’s got the right to manipulate them and befriend them and abuse them? None of it is fair and nothing will change that.
Why isn’t he over it?)
Behind him, the footsteps aren’t the stomping gait of police standard boots. Derek doesn’t turn around. He doesn’t want to see how pity looks on Hotch. It’s one thing to tolerate it from well-intentioned acquaintances but another entirely from people he cares about.
He leans against the low fence running the perimeter of the parking lot. It is scabbed over with rough rust. He lets his vision soften, blur around the edges, content with the occasional car coming past.
“Morgan.”
“What gave it away?” Derek asks. “I bet it was real satisfying to figure out what was wrong with me. So what was it?”
“I’m sorry—”
Sorry doesn’t help. Derek’s sorry too that this ever happened but saying it doesn’t make a difference. He turns, and is momentarily relieved when Hotch just looks at him the same as ever, because it’s easier to handle pity if it doesn’t really show. “Don’t. Just don’t. I’m serious, though: what was it?”
“That isn’t what I meant,” Hotch says. Infuriatingly calm. An irritating mix of gratitude and anger just fuels the fire. He wants to feel one way or the other about it, not both.
“It doesn’t matter,” Derek protests. Uniforms glance in their direction. “You had no right to – no right!”
No, he had no right but it’s only because he ignored that they’re having this argument. It’s rational and irrational to be mad and he can’t settle on which is the right thing to feel.
“I know,” Hotch admits.
That strikes a nerve.
Because no, he doesn’t. None of them do. They can’t understand the raw humiliation from the type of abuse alone, let alone having his life picked apart and examined for cracks. And yet they did it all the same, without so much as the decency to include him.
“Do you?” Derek says, his voice cold steel. “Do you really? Have you got any idea what it’s like to go through that? To have his hands on you? And then just when you think it’s over, someone comes along and brings it up again! Don’t tell me you know that!”
Blood buzzes in his ears and a spark of pain in his palms come from his fingernails pressing deep into his skin. Derek breathes, feels the tension ease a fraction, the headache and stomachache and dizziness starting to melt away. He’s not good, but he’s not close-to-a-panic-attack bad.
They stand there for a time, just breathing and occasionally making brief eye contact, and Derek is beginning to think he’s completely screwed until Hotch joins him, hands on the railing as the low rumble of distant traffic ebbs and flows.
“You were right that I don’t know what sexual abuse is like,” Hotch says. It’s how he says it unflinchingly that sets him on edge; he’s used to euphemisms and avoidance and nobody ever wants to come right out and acknowledge what it really was. At the same time, it hits like a punch to the gut. “I should have worded it better. That’s on me. What I was trying to say is that nothing you did gave it away.”
His anger has mellowed out, not as sharp as earlier but there just the same, a heaviness in his stomach and an irritability he can’t shake and doesn’t much care to try.
“So what did?”
“I know how it felt to keep secrets like that,” Hotch says. He speaks slowly. Deliberately. “I know what it’s like to have spent half the time wishing someone would notice and the other half being terrified that they’d figure it out.”
Derek swallows but says nothing. He can recognise an olive branch when he sees one.
“I know what it’s like to have to listen to everyone praise him and know even if you told someone, they’d never believe it.”
That hangs in the air until he’s pretty sure Hotch isn’t going to say anything else. “It’s always the ‘upstanding members of the community’ and you’d think someone might realise.”
“That was why I suspected Buford,” Hotch says. “Aside from the initial accusation, the image he presented of himself was too clean.”
“He needed – hell, still needs – people to think he was good,” he says. “That what you meant?”
“Good people – genuinely good people – don’t work so hard to convince everyone that they are,” Hotch says. “They aren’t perfect. They have disagreements and make mistakes. They’ve got faults because they are real people, but we never heard a bad word against Buford.”
(For some reason he’s thinking of Garcia: her bright smile and the light in her eyes and driving away the darkness that threatens to drown them. Genuinely good people indeed.)
“Me neither,” Derek says, laughs without humour. Without the burning anger he’s cold and a little empty. Mellowed-out. “I used to think people did suspect something, you know? Because someone must have. All of us, the same ages, all boys…”
“People see what they want to,” Hotch says, more than a touch cynical. “They wanted Buford to have no ill intent, so they didn’t see it. They created justifications for almost anything.”
“How did you get from ‘something’s up with this guy' to the real thing?” Derek asks.
“Process of elimination. Nothing showed up on your records and nothing indicated something removed. If he killed those boys in a fit of rage, he’d have shown a history of violence and there would be evidence of previous domestic abuse. He went to lengths to maintain a reputation, and that gave him access to children and teenagers. He favoured a specific demographic but his status kept people from questioning it.”
It’s laid out bare and clinical. Just the same as an average profile: nothing personal to him or to Buford. Derek appreciates it, a good middle ground between avoiding the issue and being painfully, painfully open. He’d just rather not have to have this conversation at all. “The team’s gotta have some idea,” he says.
Because Gideon and Hotch did, and they’re all profilers as well. The more they think about it, the more likely they are to come to the correct conclusion, and Derek is equally as apprehensive about facing their reactions. A sick guilt sets in when he thinks too much about it: the response he’s afraid of is concern, pity, kindness – a luxury many aren’t afforded.
(Does he even deserve it if he doesn’t want it?)
“They knew Gideon and I were leaving but not what we thought,” Hotch says. “If they guess, it’s their own.”
Derek looks over his shoulder. Buford’s silhouette sits in the back of a car, its chin held high, commanding a respect it had never deserved. “Yeah, well, if they haven’t figured it out by now, they’re going to once they book him in.”
“They don’t have to know more than what they hear.”
“Good to know I can choose now,” Derek mutters. “It doesn’t matter. Either they know or they don’t.”
“I’m sorry—”
“Just don’t. Please.”
“No, not that it happened,” Hotch says. A beat later: “That wasn’t what – I wish you weren’t in that position, but I’m sorry that I had to bring it up.”
“I’d be in jail,” Derek says. More than any emotion, he is plain tired. What he’d give to be at home with Clooney and his own bed. “I don’t think I’m allowed to be mad.”
“You are,” Hotch says firmly. Perhaps more than a mediocre attempt at a joke necessitates. “It was an awful situation. You’re allowed to feel however you feel about it.”
It’s not that he needs someone to tell him that, but hearing it is – he’ll admit it’s nice, to know that someone else agrees and it’s not just his own head. Derek shrugs. “I moved on. It shouldn’t be – it was fine.”
Fine before Buford dragged him into this mess—god knows how many people are going to hear his name in connection to him tonight. And how many after that? They’ll think of him and see what a sick old man did to him. Not the work he puts in. Not who he fought – fights – to be. Not a profiler and a brother and a son.
Not Derek Morgan.
Just a victim or a survivor or whichever label they thrust upon him for their own comfort, easier to digest, easier to square him away in a neat box and tell themselves it won’t affect them because it’s only ever those children. Neighbours and friends and acquaintances but never their kids.
“It doesn’t mean you haven’t,” Hotch says. “I’d be more surprised if it didn’t affect you at all.”
“It doesn’t ‘affect’ me,” Derek says. Maybe he’s spoken too soon about the pity thing. “Look, just leave it.”
“Moving on doesn’t necessarily mean feeling nothing,” Hotch says. “If you wanted to tell someone, if or when you wanted, and how much to share – that was your choice and it shouldn’t have been taken.”
“Yeah, I know. Thanks for that, by the way,” he says, more bitterly than he’d intended. His thoughts return to his family. “The team are gonna know, who else?”
“Other than the officers making the arrest, nobody yet.”
Derek nods. He can work with that, has to. At the very least he’ll be the first one to tell his mom and sisters – silver linings, he supposes, no matter how thin – and it’s certainly better news to give than they’re taking him to trial for a murder he didn’t commit. This isn’t the type of thing he can just drop on them and walk away. “I’m gonna take a couple days to, uh, let things settle down around here.”
It’s not a question.
“It won’t come out of your personal time off.”
He lets go of the fence and brushes flecks of rust from his palms. Behind them the area is quieting down again, and in an hour or two there won’t be any sign of what happened beyond a handful of collective, awful memories. Well, Derek’s just glad there aren’t going to be any more kids knowing the place as somewhere bad—that it’ll never be more than a sports hall and cramped changing rooms and a stuffy old storage closet. That when they think of it, the memories are nostalgic, not thrown together into a nightmare steeped in fear.
Derek makes a move to go. It’s a short walk back to his mom’s and it’ll do him good to clear his head. Give him time to find not the right words – for there can’t be – but the most comforting.
“Morgan.”
“Yeah?”
“You know if you need to talk—”
“I know,” he says. “And no offense, but you have to say that, right? ‘Cause I don’t think either of us really want that.”
Hotch tilts his head. “I’m not saying it because I’m obligated to.”
“Yeah, I know,” Derek says. “And I’ll keep it in mind.”
He doesn’t intend to mention it. Just like how they aren’t going to mention what Hotch had told him. That’s never how they handle it. But the sentiment is there, and the team are reliable like a second family: they’d be there if he wanted to and until then, they’re not going to press it.
He’s not okay – he’ll admit that to himself if nobody else – but he’ll get there. Knowing their luck, they’ll have been thrown headfirst into a case so chaotic by next week that it’s all they can think of. Such is the job. It's crazy but he loves it.
“Thanks,” Derek says. “For not giving up.”
Hotch gives him a solemn nod.
“And sorry for the paperwork they’re gonna give you for me getting arrested,” he jokes. “Ever had to do that before?”
“Fortunately not.”
“Well,” Derek says, “there’s an early Christmas present. You’re welcome.”
That elicits something that’s almost a smile. “Take care.”
“I will. See you back home,” he says, and he walks away from Buford and the memories and this long, miserable day. Back to his mom's place with nicer reminders of childhood, the height marks pencilled on the kitchen door frame and the shower with a leaking faucet and home-cooked meals.
Back to his family.

Alright boys, girls, and nonbinary folks of the world. It’s 5:36am (1/30 when I first started) as I decide to give up on my attempt to continue to focus on learning statistics, avoid studying for my two upcoming midterms, and put off my two actual essays for two different classes.
Instead we’re going into a dive about ✨ KazuFuuma ✨ . Is this me telling you you gotta ship it? No of course not, you’re entitled to your own ships! You don’t really gotta care about it as a ship. But I do want people to recognize it’s THERE canonically, and how disregarding it is extremely unfair to Kazuki as a character particularly. Also, I’m working on the assumption anyone clicking this at least knows the bare bones about what KazuFuuma (ex. You know they are a ship of Kazuki/Fuuma from Dolce, you know they are childhood friends, you know who Dolce is, you know about Honeyworks, etc.) I’ll be making references to specific things, but I won’t always go into heavy detail. Might just hope you know it or take my word for what it is, and go into analyzing it. Some I’ll put direct references to find, but some I’ll trust you can find it yourself. If you somehow read this MAMMOTH and want reference to a specific thing mentioned, hmu I can help you find it!!
Also I hate tumblr formatting sm if you legit wanna read this 7 page essay but hate tumblr format lmk I'll add it as a google doc link instead too. anYWHO
Before actually getting into the meat of things lemme preface some stuff.
Again it’s like almost 6am so this will be disorganized and very train of thought (and likely long due to the fact when I fly by the seat of my pants I’m known to get unnecessarily extensive). It’s definitely gonna be in large part why it’s important to recognize as a romantic relationship foundation and what about it shapes Kazuki’s character in particular. Maybe a bit of how it’s been built up and its general focus and implications. Dunno yet. We’ll see LMAOO
I say f*ck. Not a lot, just a handful of times. This ain’t something scholarly this is for my own enjoyment so if you don’t like that might not wanna read. And it’s not like spitefully I just curse a lot if you haven’t...read my tags before lol
Again this is through the lens of a Kazuki stan. Of COURSE I’m going to have some level of bias, but if anything that bias may help more than hurt because that means I become FIXATED and think a lot about Kazuki. Which plays into establishing just how important it is that Kazufuuma’s relationship is recognized, especially in a romantic light at this point. Lmfao.
I’ll have a few more prefaces about the actual content below but to keep this from getting too long if you wanna read come below the cut owo
I have extremely limited knowledge of Japanese just taking a few classes in highschool (so like 3 yrs ago) and live in America. This means a lot of my knowledge is gathered through the english translations of the super duper incredible and lovely people in the Honeyworks fandom who provide translations (delaix and takanenene esp have provided so much for me being able to understand Dolce) and my own limited Japanese paired with Google Translate for things that remain untranslated.
This only will be drawing on information I have come in contact with and have access to and making assumptions based on that, most (if not all) of which is in the public domain. So things like the Dolce Manga Volumes released via Animate, exclusive 4komas, and Light Novels are out of my area for the most part (apart from again snippets of translations thanks to this fandom’s godlike and generous translators).
I will not be drawing on anything from the first Dolce album with the exception of Nade Nade. From a meta standpoint, I consider those songs as songs made as performance media as opposed to character explorations. Nade Nade is the exception because (1) it was released a whole year before the album and (2) you can tell it’s explicitly an exploration of Fuuma and Kazuki’s interpersonal relationship even if it’s in a slightly more performance based context than the songs that came out with the Dolce LNs. Easiest parallel I can make to show this is if you held Non-Fantasy, Yume Fanfare, and Samishigariya up against each other, you could tell the difference in intended audience and intended purpose the same way the Dolce 1st album, Nade Nade, and the songs of the LNs do respectively. Even if there is some basis to ground Kazufuuma, for the purposes of this essay I’ll be acting under the assumption the 1st album falls under the Non-Fantasy equivalent category.
THAT WAS A LOT OF PREFACING CONSIDERING LIKE 2 PPL WILL PROBABLY READ IT I just have a tendency to anytime I do anything analytical lay down ground acknowledgements for myself to work on just...cuz it makes me feel less guilty for any accidental misinformation even if I’m writing towards my future self to read lolll IM SORRY WITHOUT FURTHER TO DO HERE’S THE BRAIN DUMP
First let’s go ahead and establish why it needs to be recognized as an important relationship. Again, I’m a Kazuki stan. He’s my favorite character not only of Dolce but also of the entire Honeyworks series, and as much as I love him for reasons outside the ship, whether you like it or not Kazufuuma is an essential aspect of his character and narrative. Of course there’s the fact that him and Fuuma are childhood friends, so that’s going to in part define their characters and interactions with each other and those around them. They’re both going to be relevant to one another and important to one another’s stories to an even greater extent than the rest of the members of Dolce. But on Kazuki’s side at least, it’s an EXTREME amount. A running plotpoint in Dolce Diary is the sheer amount of dedication Kazuki has to Fuuma and how much his thoughts and decisions are influenced by Fuuma, whether it be how he feels happiest spending time with Fuuma, how he decided to get his piercing to represent he wanted to protect Fuuma, how he doesn’t want to dislike food so he can eat what Fuuma dislikes, etc. Not to mention running jokes about his borderline overprotectiveness and downright possessiveness of Fuuma, how proud he is when Fuuma gets praised, or that one 4koma that literally explicitly states he can read Fuuma’s mind when he thinks motherfucking ‘dirty thoughts’ about his childhood friend (Fuuma). I still don’t know what the fuck to make of that last bit. Genuinely. Or the fact it’s a fucking running joke. As in it’s not a one off. It’s been brought up multiple times. Kazuki what the fuck.
That’s not to say that he doesn’t have character outside of Fuuma or he doesn’t interact with people other than Fuuma. He’s great friends with Sara, Girisha, and Kippei and is shown time and time again to have fun interactions with all of them, generally acting as the best support friend for every member of the group, not Fuuma alone. For instance how he helps Kippei with his self confidence issues or stays over at Sara’s to protect him from a cockroach (which he fails at lol). Nor is that to say all his interactions involving Fuuma focus solely on his devotion to Fuuma, especially in instances where the manga focuses on Dolce as a group dynamic (though even in that setting there are times where jokes about his devotion are thrown in). He’s kind, he’s stupid, he’s friendly, he’s an amazing character in his own right, and I love him for all those reasons. But that doesn’t change the fact a major part of his character and his character interactions are rooted in Fuuma, and arguably some of his most interesting, eccentric, and notable behaviors and traits revolve around Fuuma (again the mind reading for example).
Hell let’s take it one step further. If you look at the character bios of the Dolce members, you get everyone’s motives for being an idol and interests. Of them, Kazuki is the only one to have another character mentioned directly, not to mention that supporting Fuuma is explicitly stated to be his primary motive as to why he became an idol. Not even Fuuma’s sister is mentioned, though two arguments can be made for this. The first would be that Fuuma’s backstory about wanting to fulfill his dream for himself and his sister was decided later to explain Fuuma’s choice to crossdress though it can be argued it was intentionally done to leave it as a reveal at a later date, to which I would argue I don’t think this backstory was a choice in post. While Fuuma’s dedicated Dolce Diary extra exploring that backstory was released a little less than a year after Dolce was revealed, the preview to set up Fuuma’s backstory was actually the first thing released after the character bios on the Dolce Official Twitter page if you exclude a drawing of Dolce from Yamako. The second argument could be that information about his sister was intentionally withheld to set up the reveal when Fuuma’s extra released to explore it. However, going by that logic (which I do agree with), that would also mean that Fuuma’s inclusion and importance in Kazuki’s character bio also set up his dedicated extra, which I don’t think would be incorrect to assume considering what his actual extra turned out being.
Which brings me to the thing that makes it inexplicable to write off the romantic implications behind Kazufuuma: Kazuki’s dedicated Dolce Diary extra, Suki. I shipped Kazufuuma before even knowing of Suki, sure. But the fact that Suki even exists is a shock to me and drove into me the fact that Kazufuuma wasn’t just my own projection. Again, it’s not a surprise that Fuuma shapes Kazuki’s life. They’re childhood friends, of course they’re going to be important to each other. But this extra explicitly brought Kazuki’s feelings towards Fuuma under a direct spotlight. At first I was thinking oh, this extra was just to acknowledge the fact that Kazuki and Fuuma’s relationship can have romantic implications, but the end of it the conclusion that we got was that it didn’t matter what type of “like” he felt for Fuuma. Originally, I thought it wasn’t anything more than saying there are all types of like, and it doesn’t always need to be explicitly defined, but I appreciated the fact they were aware that they were writing Kazuki in a way that conveyed romantic implications.
Then I thought about it because, again, I love Kazuki of course I’m going to think about his character extra, and realized...that’s not how these character extras have worked. There are only three character extras out as far as I know and have read: Fuuma, Kippei, and Kazuki. If we look at Fuuma and Kippei’s, each extra had a conclusion, sure, but they didn’t have a resolution. Rather, they were simply setting up explicitly what each character’s primary character arc and conflict were. Fuuma’s extra brought attention to the fact that he’s particularly a crossdressing idol by exploring the motives behind it. His choice to be a crossdressing idol is constantly under fire both by himself and the world around him. He’s not immune to those who consider his crossdressing strange, and a part of his story is both finding people who accept his decision to crossdress and to succeed for himself as a crossdressing idol. It’s an essential part of how we understand and define him as a character and it’s a central part of how he interacts with the world around him. For Kippei, it lays the severity of his insecurity under the spotlight and his journey and motives for improving himself. Again, this isn’t something isolated and resolved in the extra; his extreme insecurity and negativity is constantly affecting how he interacts with practically everyone from his fellow Dolce members to his fans despite the fact in all honesty? He’s fucking insanely talented in his own right, his own brother mentioning how smart he is and how he has amazing reflexes. For Kippei, his negativity is an essential part of how we understand and define him and central to how he interacts with the world as much as Fuuma’s decision to crossdress is to him.
Which brings us back to Kazuki, of course. In his dedicated extra, in the chapter that’s supposed to explore and establish and bring attention to an essential part of his character, the aspect of himself under investigation is how he feels about Fuuma. It’s not just how he behaves around Fuuma, it’s explicitly an exploration of his feelings, on top of the fact it’s explicitly an exploration about whether or not he likes Fuuma r o m a n t i c a l l y. Literally the conflict is spurred on by someone outright asking “Do you like him?” and having to clarify “I mean romantically.” What they decided to focus on for Kazuki’s character and emphasize and establish is that Kazuki’s like towards Fuuma toes the line between friendship and romance. His ambiguous feelings towards Fuuma (if we leave them inconclusive as Suki did) are just like Fuuma’s crossdressing and Kippei’s insecurity in the sense the weight of whatever those feelings may be are seen in how he interacts with the world around him and influences his behaviors. It would be another story if they introduced the potential and shut it down all within the extra, because then his central conflict would to me be less directly open to romantic potential and more simply about how his arc was meant to explore the dynamic of the behavior of an extremely dedicated best friend. The fact that he may be romantically attracted to Fuuma or may be only platonically dedicated to Fuuma is instead something that looms over Kazuki in the same way Fuuma’s decision to crossdress constantly looms over him. It’s what Dolce wanted to point to and say this is Kazuki’s central character conflict and central arc: exploring what type of feelings he has towards Fuuma.
Sure, it can be argued that there’s only three Dolce Diary character extras, there’s not enough to be sure about that being the purpose of the extras unless we get the other two’s extras. First, at this point I honestly don’t know if or when they’re going to release an extra revolving around Sara and Girisha just because not only has it been over a year and a half since the latest Dolce Diary Character Extra (Kazuki’s) was released despite the gap between the first and latest Dolce Diary Character Extra (Fuuma’s and Kazuki’s) were within a year of release but also because the Dolce 4komas and comics they’ve been posting to Twitter have decreased (last one being over half a year ago) potentially due to them deciding to focus on releasing Dolce manga content through the purchasable volumes instead. (This is not particularly related to the Kazufuuma argument, just wanted to put out there my two cents on what Sara and Girisha’s extra/focal arc would be. Based on a large part of the Dolce Diary in conjuncture with Can’t an Idol Fall in Love, I’d argue Sara’s would be his journey to regain his passion for performing, and if it’s not that I’d say it’d be coming out of his self-imposed isolation and opening up to people again. As for Girisha, I have less of a concrete idea but I’m assuming it’d be something pertaining to how people often misconceive him whether it be in tandem with his determination, his optimism and sociability, or his stupidity/ability to ignore those misconceptions and work past them. But Girisha is treated like the comedic relief 90% of the time so I’m not entirely sure, but his primary conflict is definitely rooted in misconceptions of him being his roadblock imo. #MoreGirishaContentPlz) That being said, I personally feel like the three are already enough evidence, especially considering it would be honestly even more cruel for Kazuki’s character-centric extra to be focusing on something that wasn’t essential to his character and character arc, anyway. And though it’s not explicitly stated that these chapters are extras exploring a central character, you can kind of tell based on how they are (to my knowledge) the only Dolce Diary updates with cover/title cards each which include their focal character front and center. So working off that fact, the Kazuki-centric chapter established that a pillar to his narrative was his feelings towards Fuuma and that those feelings are still open to romantic potential.
But if you follow me, this is why up until Can’t an Idol Fall in Love With Another Idol’s release, I was terrified of them writing that off. I would have been ok if it was just an arc that was given attention then continued to actively work in the background, as all the character arcs have been over all of Dolce’s content. The fact that they might be giving Fuuma a love interest and giving Fuuma a love arc while Kazuki’s feelings were still up in the air and were still the primary highlighted narrative for him would have been fucking scuffed. To me, it would be like… why would they make him so Fuuma-centric to the point that even his dedicated chapter was not just focused on Fuuma but focused on the ambiguity and potential of him having romantic feelings for Fuuma, yet reduce him to being Fuuma's designated right-hand man. Don’t get me wrong, friendships are just as important as romantic relationships. But again, rather than conclude Kazuki’s answer in Suki to be that his feelings were of friendship, they left it open ended and allow audience members to be actively aware that Kazuki’s feelings towards Fuuma still had potential to be romantically coded. It would just be so weird to quickly close off that narrative by giving Fuuma a love interest as opposed to letting Kazuki conclude it himself. It would be fucking beyond frustrating for me, at least Eventually, I kept trying to drive my hopes that they would explore Kazuki’s narrative at all down to the ground because it was a Fuuma-centric novel; maybe if anything they’d explore those feelings in his own novel after the fact. But then they kept having little drops here and there of Kazuki being even the slightest bit relevant and I’d go back to questioning “Are??? They??? Is this on purpose??? Do they know what they’re doing or are they just doing this because Kazuki’s just so important to Fuuma as his best friend that he’s there as his right-hand I genuinely can’t tell???” And um. Welp.
Safe to say Can’t An Idol Fall in Love sold me on the fact that they know what they’re doing LOL. And to anyone who thinks that Kazuki’s feelings can still be read as ambiguous in CAIFILWAI as opposed to explicitly romantic - whether it be due to a fear they may pull the “I like him as a friend” card or due to the disbelief that they have an explicit mlm main character in the Honeyworks series - I’d like to cover any bases that may make you think this way. If you think it’s just Kazuki acting like a protective friend, why do you think he calls Yui a rival? If you’ve only seen the MV and think it’s ambiguous or can be taken as the "likfe" for friend, then does that mean you think Yui’s feelings toward Fuuma are also ambiguous or as a friend? With the way Yui responds, she is trying to rival Kazuki’s feelings towards Fuuma. She and Kazuki recognize whatever feeling it is that they hold towards Fuuma, both of their feelings are the same type. I don’t think most people would argue that Yui’s confession about Fuuma was one of pure respect and friendship. Plus, if anything I’d argue of the three characters in the MV, Fuuma is the one whose feelings are left the most ambiguous despite him being the central character. It’s heavily implied that he may be forming feelings for Yui, but nowhere is it established either in the song or in the MV, especially if you compare it to Kazuki and Yui’s declarations or if you compare it to Sara’s feelings for Uru in Can’t An Idol Fall in Love. Fuuma’s romantic narrative here is trying to figure out how he feels for Yui, while for Kazuki and Yui they’ve established a rivalry because they both have mutually established they like Fuuma romantically.
If the MV isn’t enough for you and Suki isn’t enough for you for...some reason…??? You can check out the snippets of the light novel which the wonderful takanenene translated: one which revisits the conflict set up in Suki and one that covers the confession scene in the MV in more detail. If the fact that the conflict set up in Suki (aka the lurking feeling of not knowing if all he felt for Fuuma was only platonic or more than platonic) was specifically reestablished in the LN for anyone who didn’t keep up with Dolce Diary didn’t tip you off that it was something important, his behavior in the confession scene as depicted by the LN definitely should have. He’s possessive about his spot by Fuuma’s side. He doesn’t want that spot to be taken by anyone else. Even if he knows that they can help Fuuma, he wants it to be him. And this line: “Kazuki then trails off his words, quietly saying ‘That’s why…’ and then gave Yui a slightly painful smile, his cheeks turning red,” before he declares Yui a rival and states he likes Fuuma. If you can tell me you read that line and are still on the fence about Kazuki’s “like” towards Fuuma being romantic, please message me and I will see how I can get through to you. Like it wasn’t even just a romantically coded confession. It’s just a romantic confession. That “like” is romantic. And I’m so proud that he’s not only come to understand for himself how he feels, but that he’s confident enough to ask the person he sees as a romantic rival to speak in private and not only clarify her feelings for Fuuma but before she can even do that firmly establishes that he loves Fuuma with conviction. Kazuki my boy I’m so proud of you. *sniffs*
And that’s it for establishing Kazufuuma as at least canonically one-sidedly canon and why there’s not only no reason to deny it but also why denying it is a fucking disrespectful move towards Kazuki. He’s a character, sure, but that doesn’t change the fact you shouldn’t write off his struggle to come to be convicted enough to say it out loud. This has been something weighing on him at least a year, if not more (all I know is it started when both he and Fuuma were in some year in middle school). And as a character in a piece of media, I’ve been saying this the entire time, but brushing it off as non-romantic is literally chucking a fucking pillar of his character’s story into the gutter. And to those who may be saying Kazuki’s confession came out of nowhere and is pandering reread this entire fucking essay again I dare you to do it and tell me to my face it’s pandering. Again. Writing off the buildup as pandering is disrespectful to him, disrespectful to his character and narrative, and disrespectful to the wonderful people who have been creating Dolce so diligently and have crafted this narrative for us. Saying his “supposed feelings” and “ambiguous confession” is pandering is like saying Fuuma’s crossdressing is pandering which. If you say either of those I will find you and I will shank you in the fucking gut. Even if you’re not fully into Dolce, recognize these characters are actually very well developed and executed amazingly, as per every Honeyworks character that has come to exist. I don’t blame you if you weren’t aware of the weight of Kazufuuma, but now that you read this I hope you are. That’s mainly what I needed to get out there, but as follows will be me more exploring how Kazufuuma has been built up and generally waving my hand off at where it may be going. If you want you can dip, thanks for reading up to here because I know I repeated a lot because it’s just. So important to drill into your head and has been something I’ve been hung up about constantly. LOL
As for where exactly they’re taking it from this point on, I honestly don’t know. In all honesty, I didn’t even expect them to take it the direction they did. But honestly, I think the direction they went with it is really interesting and better than I could have imagined, in my opinion at least. Honeyworks never ceases to amaze me with their storytelling and narrative choices, and I don’t think there’s any that stand out to me as being severely questionable that they haven’t reapproached at some point down the line. And, again, I think they’re treating this with a lot of care and deserved respect. So I’m just gonna be gushing about how smart they set it up and how smart they’ve been executing it and maybe my own hopes on the direction it could go.
Whether they make Kazufuuma reciprocated I have no real clue or bearings, but to me my gut reaction is they will. Of course, I’m biased, but again if you trace things all the way back to 2018 and step through Dolce’s content and growth from there, I’d say even if they didn’t know if they could execute it like this and see it to fruition, I’d argue that Kazufuuma has been at least heavily implied since the beginning as a relationship they wanted to explore from both sides of the relationship. Obviously I brought up Kazuki’s character bio already, but if you look at the *goes to count* 5th Dolce Diary update already has a joke jabbing at the fact that Kazuki is technically Fuuma’s type (and the way Kippei and Kazuki excitedly react is so cute). The fifth update. And as stated before there are tons of Kazufuuma moments in Dolce Diary, whether it’s played for comedic effect or played straight (and this is post Suki but oh my god I’ve said it before I’ll say it again get yourself someone who looks at you the way Kazuki looks at Fuuma oh my jesus). But song-wise, I mentioned the one Dolce album song I would bring up is Nade Nade and this is where it comes!
Not only is Nade Nade specifically focused on Kazuki and Fuuma’s relationship as opposed to the whole of Dolce despite being the first song, it included the setup/preview of the Fuuma-centric extra prior to the full release of the Fuuma-centric extra itself and was released early as fuck. Literally between the 6th and 7th update to Dolce Diary. Sure, it could be to isolate them as a duo for marketing purposes (they’re very often the two promoted idols together if the whole of the group aren’t included), but the way it’s established as a perspective song as opposed to a general idol duet is what fascinates me. Anyone who didn’t know about Dolce prior and only followed Honeyworks for music would be first introduced to these characters through this song alone, and maybe this is where my Kazufuuma bias comes from but I was one of those people LOL. I thought it was just a cute one-off relationship that they had set up for the purpose of a song and that it was an implied friends-to-lovers story that would never get a conclusion. Also I mistakenly thought Fuuma was a girl oop-. In the full context of Dolce, this song in part helped establish Fuuma and Kazuki more solidly as a unique duo out of all of Dolce, but it also specifically explored through Fuuma’s eyes just how much Fuuma recognizes and appreciates the unwavering support Kazuki gives him to follow his dreams as he wishes. For Fuuma, he loves Kazuki too, though whether it holds any romantic potential in the same way Kazuki loves him has never been explored to nearly the same extent. But Fuuma appreciates how Kazuki’s remained by his side and does everything he can to support him, so Nade Nade explores how his way of expressing his love and thankfulness to Kazuki is by never saying that he needs Kazuki by his side. He’s glad Kazuki’s always been there for him, and his reciprocation takes on the form of being ready to unwaveringly support Kazuki and not ask for more than he already has, even if it meant Kazuki would be leaving his side, despite the fact that he really does wish they could remain together forever just as Kazuki does. The one point he lets himself say something vaguely close to always wanting to stay together, he gets a surprised expression out of Kazuki and says an ambiguous “suki dayo.” Of course, this it much less romantically coded than what we get from Kazuki in Suki and CAIFILWAI, but there is an interesting emphasis put on it nonetheless. Keep in mind, this is all established through the song, which released long before not only Fuuma’s character-centric extra released but also Kazuki’s character-centric extra released, so there is at least a substantial setup for Fuuma’s feelings towards Kazuki’s being strong as well and possibly grow to be reciprocated one day.
I think for me the most fascinating part about Nade Nade is how they tied it back around to Can’t An Idol Fall In Love with Another Idol. Again, without remembering Nade Nade, I still thought CAIFILWAI was brilliantly explored and executed, even if some people would have preferred no love triangle. But honestly, revisiting Nade Nade makes me trust even more the direction they’re taking with this. Whether or not they make Kazufuuma canon mutually (which. Even if they for some inexplicable reason didn’t I’m going down with this ship.), I’m sure they’re putting a lot of thought into the story, because the last bit of Nade Nade directly parallels the misunderstanding that arose from Fuuma mishearing the Kazuki and Yui. Fuuma is resolved to support Kazuki in any area he’s given the chance, and that explicitly includes if Kazuki had some girl he liked, which is what he assumes is going on. The fact that they tied this back around in the form of a misunderstanding was really really smart and Honeyworks is always so good at parallels and references back to their older songs, but for some reason I didn’t expect this. I don’t know how to say why, but the fact that the song that started it all, kicked off both Dolce and Kazufuuma, was directly referenced both visually in the MV with a cameo at the start and narratively despite the central dynamic being predominantly explored in this story in particular was that of Fuuma and another potential love interest and involves said potential love interest for some reason makes me think that (sorry Yui) this is all planned out for Kazufuuma in the grand scheme of things. That being said, I don’t know if me thinking it was planned all along is just me with shipper goggles, but the idea it’s come full circle nearly 3 years later is not shipper goggles and a very very well done parallel in my opinion, whether this trajectory was their plan for Kazufuuma from the beginning or not. Just wanted to gush about that some more.
There’s more I could go into especially if I went into specific details about interactions or specific implications established in Honeyworks' Dolce content about different characters that would be fascinating to explore in relation to and under the lens of Kazufuuma, but I think this is uh...plenty long enough. Plus, I doubt you'll stop seeing Kazufuuma posts from me so those ideas will probably just be miniposts or somethin.
Back to the overarching point of this segment, idk what they’ll do with this story in the end, but do I think Kazufuuma will canon? I’m used to looking at ships that aren’t explicitly apparent with a sliver of skepticism, but all things considered (as I stated before) yeah. I don’t see reason why they wouldn’t now that they’ve explicitly identified there is a romantic dimension to it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Like to me, the setup isn’t something that would be written off as unrequited? And this doesn’t have to play into why I don’t think it will canon, my personal opinion on the Fuuyui relationship (again albeit through the lens of a hard Kazufuuma shipper lmao) has it’s own merits and is really cute, I find it cute in the way I found Koyuhina cute. I personally never really shipped Koyuhina, and especially since they slipped Kotarou into Ima Suki Ni Naru I was more curious about who this kid was and how he played into things I didn’t really see Koyuhina as something that would come to fruition. Similarly, there’s more importance in the overall sense on Kazuki than there is Yui (considering he’s one of the 5 original and focal members of this generation of idols, this would be natural), as well as the fact there’s just way more foundation and exploration in Fuuma and Kazuki’s relationship than there is Fuuma and Yui. As for how much of a balance there is inside the LN itself, the fact that they seem to have spent a substantial amount relaying the foundation of Fuuma and Kazuki’s relationship and re-exploring it (at least in Kazuki’s perspective) at all on top of how much content there is covering their relationship prior to the LN ever since Dolce’s origin just feels like that relationship holds more weight. Pretty much Kazufuuma feels more established as a priority in general. The way I personally hope Fuuyui plays out is whether they wind up holding mutual feelings or not or whether Fuuma doesn’t feel that way towards Yui is they get a relationship akin to Kotarou and Arisa. Albeit, Kotarou and Arisa never viewed each other in a romantic light, but they had mutual respect and solidarity. That’s the type of friendship I hope comes out of Fuyui. And considering there hasn’t been a break-up in any Honeyworks’ canon relationships (nor do I expect there to be… they’re all perfect for each other LMAO) it would actually be interesting if Fuuyui get together but don’t endgame and Kazufuuma is established as the inseparable endgame after some realization or another, though I don’t expect them to go that route nor do I know if that’d be the best way to go about it anyway. Also final point, Honeyworks seems to have a thing for childhood friends trope anyway soooooo owo All in all, don’t know where they’re taking it, just excited to see where it goes.
TL;DR of this *counts* 7 page essay, stan Kazufuuma. Not gonna proof this. Maybe I’ll edit and repost but yall are getting a confusing clusterfuck of ramblings over 2-3 hr periods of me writing across 3 different days at around 5am each day. Uh. If you got this far like and subscribe and-- jk plz reply to this mammoth anywhere you see fit or tell me if you have stuffs to add or counter or whatnot I like hearing people talk about Kazufuuma ;w; I am Kazuki and Kazufuuma brainrot can you tell after reading this? No? Lemme just remind you I’m K--

Sometimes I doubt Marrow's commitment to sparklemotion. 'They're just kids'. Dude the city's under attack and they're 19 or 20. It's immersion breaking. We're shown a brewing TPK. Only Ironwood and Winter though are acting like everyone genuinely could die. The heroes are so wrapped up in their individual plot lines, fear and direct personal connections it genuinely comes off as if RWBYJNR see a 'win' as RWBYJNR all living. Not saving the cities. And it's been this way since vol. 4 started.
I had to look up “Sometimes I doubt your commitment to sparklemotion” and now I’m very glad I have lol
I don’t hate the concept of our heroes being “kids” on its own. Yes, they’re technically adults by our real-world definition, but they’re still young and, crucially, still in school (or still at the age where they would have been in school if not for Salem). There’s something to be said here about very young adults being forced into combat before they’re fully trained and before they were able to cross that graduation threshold, the barrier between “semi-powerless student under the protection of others” and “culturally powerful expert with the responsibility to protect instead of being protected”... but that’s not the sort of nuance RWBY is grappling with. The problem, really, is that there’s no nuance at all. The characters are just “kids” or implied “not kids” depending on what most benefits Ruby’s side of the moral line. She’s an adult when turning on Argus, an adult when taking control from Ironwood... then she’s a child again when hiding away in the Schnee manor, her allies are just children when viewed through the eyes of a likely supporter. Instead of grappling with what it means to make the leader a teen two years younger than the already too-young-to-be-professionally-fighting heroes in this war and settling on a perspective  — 17 is old enough to be treated as a full-fledged adult and Ruby has proven her worth, making age a non-issue vs. 17 is too young and Ruby, as a still struggling teen, must rely on more experienced fighters to guide her, making age a major theme of the story  — RWBY keeps using age as a way of excusing Ruby’s very deadly decisions. Things are beyond bad now, the plot has proven what a lot of us said from the get-go  — Ruby was an arrogant fool to try and take Salem on without a plan  — but instead of getting her to wrestle with that, everyone around her re-contextualizes her actions as that of a praise-worthy child: May tells this kid she’s done her best, Marrow sees her friends as kids who are tragically forced to be here, Blake gives two speeches about how important Ruby is and how they’ll wait around until she figures out what to do. Ruby is an adult only up until things go wrong. Then she’s a minor that everyone reassures isn’t responsible for any of this tragedy.
All of which ties into our heroes’ priorities this volume. Ruby loves the idea of saving everyone, so she throws herself into securing a position where she thinks she can do that: I’ll try to turn Ironwood’s other allies against him, knock out the Ace Ops, steal access to Amity Tower, convince Penny to come with us, and tell the whole world not to trust him. She’s in charge and has the power now — success! But once Ruby realizes she doesn’t know what to do with all that power, once she acknowledges that the way to save both Mantle and Atlas hasn’t conveniently dropped in her lap now that she needs it... her goals narrow, which wouldn’t be so bad if she hadn’t done so much damage in an unfounded attempt to meet those massive goals first. At least YJR have the decency to combine their personal goal with the kingdom’s: let us secure information about the whale while we try to rescue Oscar. We can do both. In contrast, Ruby has thrown up her hands and decided that since she can’t save everyone, she’ll stop trying to save anyone. I’m personally inclined to criticize Ruby for focusing on Nora and Penny while there’s a literal war going on outside her window  — she doesn’t need to be there while both are unconscious and already being treated  — but even beyond that, even if we decide to overlook Ruby choosing an unnecessary way to “help” her friends that conveniently keeps herself and her in-group safe too  — we had that moment where May demanded that they finally do something to help... and Ruby still wouldn’t. Those few minutes before Penny crashed were Ruby’s time to decide how she would help outside of her “Everything is magically fine” fantasy and her answer was still to dither, putting off any action. Ruby’s heroism has become an all or nothing deal and that, more than anything, displays the problem with her age. For all that she’s lost, Ruby still makes decisions like our Episode One Ruby would: like life is a fairy tale and there’s some Perfect Happy Ending out there that she just needs to grab hold of. And when it’s not there? She’ll wait around until it shows up. Ruby doesn’t understand the concept of taking small steps and accepting small victories to eventually make the world better than it was before. She’s in the middle of a storm at sea, refusing to let anyone leave via the lifeboats because there aren’t enough for everyone, shouting passionately that she’ll just make the storm go away...somehow. And when she realizes she can’t change reality like that to suit her imagined Happy Ending? She hides away, crying because she doesn’t know what to do, ignoring the number of people who are straight up telling her this is what you could do to help. Because if it’s not an action that easily fixes everything, if it’s not an action without downsides, then Ruby doesn’t want it. If she can’t save Atlas, save Mantle, and defeat Salem in one fell swoop... then she freezes. Ruby is still functioning under a child’s fantasy that she’ll instantly fix the whole world by heroically cutting Salem in two with her scythe, while simultaneously placing herself in powerful positions that let her limit those trying to accomplish realistic goals that will hopefully lead to slow, imperfect, but long-term improvement. That’s one hell of a dangerous space to be in.
Which, to be frank, is really interesting! The concept of a hero who takes harmful actions because their view of what the world could be overwrites what the world actually is... that’s pretty intense. There’s a powerful story there. It’s just that RWBY doesn’t seem to realize this is the character Ruby has become, which means we’re unlikely to ever see the development of this flaw.

You know there are also many people who claim they love dark, complex and morally grey characters but then you actually scroll through their blog and it’s just a constant stream about how their complex fave is actually the most a misunderstood cinnamon roll. Bridgerton fandom does this so hard with Anthony. It’s just this constant insistence that Anthony has never done anything wrong or mistreated anyone. like I love him but he clearly took his sisters agency away with berbrooke, tossed a woman out into the street & pushed a servant once. But no!! Everything is evil violets fault for being a bad mom or stupid Daphne fault for kissing a guy, or evil Siena’s fault for not praising Anthony enough. Acknowledging that Anthony made these horrible choices by himself is more interesting than constantly claiming that bc Anthony has trauma cannot be held responsible for his actions. It’s also interesting how all his bad actions get blamed on a woman 🧐
I actually liked show!anthony but I couldn’t stand book!anthony. I think it’s because my one pet peeve in a character is self pity and book!anthony and fanon!anthony are just bathing in it. and the way fandom just plays into those character traits is boring as well. The hard truth is that even when trauma makes someone behave a certain way, they are responsible for it. Like characters who acknowledge that are always more interesting. Let him do bad shit and have to reckon with it. Without acting as if the whole world is against poor misunderstood cinnamon roll anthony who is a literal English lord in the 1800s.
Yeah, I personally don’t care about what people choose to like. You can love the baddies, you can enjoy the good guys only…. I guess my issue comes when you’re like, purposefully misinterpreting characters in order to justify liking them? Because the implication is that you’re in the *moral right* for liking those characters, when morality shouldn’t come into it at all. (This is why the dismissal of show!Penelope’s actions bugs me. Feel free to love her, but own that she isn’t like…. A strictly heroic character.)
With Anthony, I personally like book!Anthony and show!Anthony, but I think fanon!Anthony is trash lol. He seems boring. I personally like that Anthony is a fucking mess. I enjoy the fact that the show actually illustrates what a man fucking around would look like, and though I don’t like Siena, that has nothing to do with her fucking him and everything to do with her as a character. I don’t blame her for any of his actions, and I especially don’t blame Violet. The Violet backlash was funny to me. Local woman wants her 30 year old son who controls the family finances to get his shit together…. How evil of her!!! I did find that part where he pushed a servant extremely funny though.
I just think people focus a lot on the things that make Anthony pitiful to them, and I’m just not about that. I realize that my interests are different, because everyone is excited to see his dad flashbacks and I’m honestly very …. Whatever about it. Like cool, I love trauma, but it’s not my focus. I’m more about the shit Anthony is doing to ruin his own life now. I also see a big focus on people wanting the general audience to like Anthony and I don’t really care about that either lol. He’s gotten his season. It’s written and it’s been filmed. He doesn’t really need to be loved or sold to the audience; the deed is done. God knows I don’t give a shit if people I don’t know hate him.

Hot take: Bakugou's character wouldn't survive if not for the one he kept abusing all his life. 90% of his character revolves around his victim and yet the fandom paints him as this super developed, fleshed out character when in reality he'd never be anything bigger than a side character if not for Deku.
Also the concequences he supposedly received are just him being teased or not getting the win he wanted, no being kidnapped doesn't count, he literally got away with his shit while even been treated like a victim and the privilege to know something about Deku that isn't any of his business. And now because he sacrificed himself that one time the fandom acts like Izuku owes his ass anything. It's disgusting.
I have given up on him actually being half the decent character ppl make him out to be and the fandom reaction to him makes me hate him even more.
He's not complex, he's just a pretty boy, asshole archetype who gets nicer and has some more cooperative and ppl love to eat that shit up while making up stuff for him. He changes but he's doesn't change for what matters and definitely pales in comparison to other characters who are better written than him.
(holy shit, did they remove the character limit on asks?? omg a GODSEND)
Well yeah, if it weren’t for Izuku and how he treats Izuku he wouldn’t have anything to improve from; people only think he’s developed because he no longer outright bullies him and “””worries””” (I say in heavy quotes) about him, and “reflects” on how he treated him even though he.......... comes to the absolute wrongest, most idiotic conclusions imaginable, that put the brunt of the excuses on Izuku instead of himself, but Toshinori validates him because Horikoshi has made Toshi into Bakugou’s uwu stan and stan of the two boys’ “friendship” (completely ignoring the fact that THIS KID FOR TEN YEARS BULLIED HIS SON). He’s basically already been devolved to acting like a side character for a long time now, with his funny anger quirk pun partly intended that’s just treated like a joke at this point, just like everyone else’s character quirks, even though it would be far more interesting for him to, you know. actually get some therapy and learn to calm himself and become an actual pleasant person to be around. But that’s not what makes him “funny”, that’s not him, according to most people, so he’s always going to stay like this, a boring angry pomeranian who flies off the handle at everything for no reason, who has done the absolute bare minimum of “changing”, which makes him a perfect character in everyone’s eyes.
“He changes but doesn’t change for what matters” pretty much sums up the problem with him in a nutshell, and is the exact reason he frustrates me so much, that I’ve ranted about plenty before. Bakugou has never been viewed through the lens of a bully, an abuser, he was never set up to be that, at least not realistically, and so his development hasn’t happened in accordance with that setup either, and people don’t have a problem with it and actively praise it because the manga actively downplay(ed)s the severity of that origin story. People can ignore the reality of how seriously traumatic being bullied for ten years of your childhood, verbally and physically would be, and how seriously and with such sensitivity such a relationship and character arc must be handled, because aside from the very first chapter when Izuku and Bakugou are still in middle school, really, with the “take a swan dive off the roof” comment and others, it’s never focused on in that way ever again; ever since, it’s just been treated as a typical anime “rivalry”, that both of them need to better themselves to overcome. The story and teachers say “the two of them are so alike but they just keep missing each other; if they just made up for each others’ weaknesses and understood that they both want the same thing, they’d be stronger together!”, and Izuku HIMSELF tries so hard to reach through to Bakugou, always still considering him his friend, always feeling like he’s the one equally at fault for their relationship being as rocky as it is, when BAKUGOU!!! FUCKING!!! BULLIED HIM!!! FOR TEN YEARS. bullied a DISABLED CHILD, which again, as a disabled person who relates to Izuku and how he felt about his quirklessness, feelings that continue to affect him even long after he gets a quirk because of how he was treated when he was younger, is DEEPLY unsettling to me. You CANNOT read/watch MHA without the metaphor of quirklessness = disabled being very apparent, and so that makes Bakugou’s bullying and how it is so utterly glossed over and purposefully forgotten a hundred times more disturbing and aggravating than it already is! If this were any other shounen rivalry then yes, it could be resolved with effort from both parties, because both parties have their own personal reasons for why they have trouble getting along with the other, and the fun is watching to see how they will overcome those, but Izuku and Bakugou were never on an equal playing field to begin with; this is a bullying story, with its victim trying desperately to win over and befriend his abuser, when he owes him absolutely NOTHING and has a BOATLOAD of unresolved issues thanks to said bullying, with no outside help from adults for either of them because none of them are acknowledging it as fucking bullying. I guarantee you that if the manga went into much more painful, bleak detail and showed many more flashbacks of how Izuku was treated by Bakugou in the past, and then still continued with the “development” he’s had since, people would be unable to ignore it like they can now, and it would make all of them extremely uncomfortable like it does those of us now who already dislike him. Hori himself has said he doesn’t understand why Bakugou is so popular, but he’s able to just continue as he does with him because no one is complaining, and because he said he regrets making him so awful in the beginning, as if that magically makes it disappear as much as it already has in 90% of the fandom’s collective mind. You wanna know an actual good manga that also deals with a bully of a disabled child growing and improving himself and forming a close relationship with his former victim? A Silent Voice. Such a journey is long, and hard, and it is painful, with many ups and downs and many nasty, hateful, guilt-filled, depression-filled feelings from both sides, along with from other characters who either also partook in the bullying, were bystanders to it who did nothing, or were indirect victims as well. The bully is bullied himself after what he does, and then grows up nearly suicidal, closing himself off and struggling to be social and make new friends because he doesn’t know how and doesn’t entirely feel like he deserves it (and the story notably doesn’t go the route of “he was abused too at home and so that’s why he bullied”), and tries and fails many times to make amends with the person he hurt before he finally is at peace with himself and everyone; the victim, meanwhile, drowns in continued guilt and suicidal feelings over feeling like she’s a burden to others, both from her disability and from watching all the infighting and victim blaming and finger pointing that ensues between her old classmates when all of the nasty emotions are brought back to the surface, along with dealing with budding romantic feelings for her past bully when he genuinely starts being kind towards her and making an effort to connect with her. ASV is entirely about this complex narrative, it’s able to dedicate everything it has to telling this story tactfully and with all the time and attention it needs. MHA, meanwhile, is a shounen battle manga, and so it was never going to do this narrative and Bakugou’s arc justice, even though I honestly think it could have if Hori really wanted to, because Izuku and Toshinori’s relationship has such masterfully subtle and touching emotions and care, at least early on; Horikoshi knows how to write good, subtle character arcs. I’m not asking for something ASV level, of course not, when the series has so many other things it has to juggle. I just wanted Bakugou to be treated as exactly what he is: a former bully, who can be taught, and learn, and reflect, and change, and become a better, more humble, more interesting person, and actually become someone worthy of all the praise and love he gets, not only for Izuku’s sake, but for his own, as well. They don’t excuse his actions in the slightest, but it’s still undeniable that Bakugou himself is a victim of how the adults in his life have treated him and raised his own expectations of himself, giving him the crippling insecurity issues he has, and that they continue to harm him (and Izuku) by simply letting him continue to go on angrily the way he does, instead of getting him help and some therapy in order for him to change and heal from things like being kidnapped by villains (which is no small thing to go through!! on top of his guilt over Toshinori’s final battle!) and becoming a better person to the one he hurt in the past, and it all just makes me so sad, not because I’m all “uwu poor Bakugou”, but just cause his character deserves better, as a person he deserves better, just like Izuku deserves better than everything he’s gone through because of him. This is all just a very long-winded way of agreeing with you OP that yes, none of Bakugou’s “punishments” for his behavior mean anything because he’s punished as a rival student who needs to humble himself in order to get along with his friend he doesn’t like, not as a former(??) bully who needs to be separated from his victim. The bar is set so low, was never set where it should be, and so absolutely no progress to “better himself” Bakugou makes either will mean anything, as long as it’s never acknowledged that he needs to make amends as a bully and abuser.
