im so excited for invincible s2b now that it has an official release date… and that release date is march 14th

Let me talk about why that has me worried for the future of the show

‼️also no hate to any other shows mentioned‼️

I want to start with these two images :

invincible compared to the boys and now hazbin hotel has BARELY gotten any offical advertising on this level. The boys also got ads in times square for the promotion of s3 and the spin-off gen v im pretty sure but I could be wrong.

Don’t get me wrong I am rly happy to see an animated show get promotion at that level and I think more streaming services should do the same but why is it that invincible, a show on its SECOND SEASON gets nothing? The official invincible accounts have to do most of the heavy lifting themselves with generating hype on their twt,insta and tiktok. People complain that the accounts often make “an announcement for the announcement” but they have too! They literally have no other option! It sucks to see invincible show signs of a show thats clearly being tampered with by executive fuckery that has led so many other animated shows to an early grave.

Also I NEED people to realize that invincible’s release schedule NOT THE FAULT OF THE CREW

I see people regularly being rude and borderline aggressive to crew members online (which ive seen happen in other fandoms too) but the amount of people that were bitching and whining about the hiatus saying things like “this is why we shouldn’t let animators have good working conditions” and people agreeing with those takes were INSANE. The crew have no control over when the show drops or not, that is a decision left up to executives.

Now why could this delay be happening ?

a little bit ago amazon made this announcement to its customers:

this very well lines up with what many people began to speculate online as to why invincible had such a weird release schedule for season 2. They release the first half and get people hooked on the first 4 episodes ending on a massive cliffhanger and then release the second half after ads are introduced in hopes of making more money bc ppl don’t want ads in the middle of their shows.

Even then many people (myself included) think that it would’ve ultimately been better for the sake of the shows own hype to just wait to release them in March back to back all 8 episodes. Because the midseason break just kneecapped the hype the show had built up so hard and now many people are reasonably frustrated.

Because there was no clarity on when the show would be back. Most people assumed it would be a month long break for the holidays which shows have done for a long time. And then fake leaks came out that the show would come back in early January, and then the invincible accounts were virtually silent, and people were saying the break was intentional for fans to (recover) for ep 4. It was all over the place

What should fans do going forward?

Best thing you can do is stream the show legally if you can! TALK about invincible, don’t let the hype die out. Get this shit on trending ! Boost any official posts online showing that there is still a demand for this show! If you can, buy merch! Read the comics legally ! LET AMAZON KNOW WE STILL CARE ABOUT THIS SHOW!

✦ Lost in Limbo Devlog #10 | 04.01.24

And just like that, March is over! We are heading into a very busy April, but as nervous as we are about it, we are also pretty excited. This month has been full of newly accomplished goals, new challenges, and wonderful milestones! Let's jump into it, shall we?

<<There’s not much information about the figure that greets you in a mysterious occult shop. The only known thing is that they were the beginning of everything…and also the ending.>>

This month we finished the rework and the sprite of the first character you'll meet in the demo! They're as mysterious as they're charming, which makes them specially dangerous...

Also, we finished March with a boom! We opened a casting call to add some voiced lines and soundbites to the demo. We have received a lot of wonderful auditions, more than we expected! It has been overwhelming (in a good way) and so exciting to finally get to this stage of the demo's production! ; v ; Also, as always, Raquel has outdone herself with the artwork—just look at these two! 💜

Another background finished by our wonderful Airyn! 💜 This is one of my favorite ones (I'm afraid I'll say this about every background Airyn works on, but oh well), so now the only step left is to animate it! There's three backgrounds left (all of them in progress), so we hope this month we can make good progress on them!

Coding-wise, the script is almost fully coded. Almost. Ten pages left. Then, I'll start polishing everything—transitions, animations, sprites, some finishing touches on some screens...But honestly, seeing everything finally come together is quite moving. Being super positive, we'll start looking for beta testers at the end of the month for windows and mac. Sadly, I'm not sure if we'll be able to test mobile at the same time, but we'll see! I'm going to work so hard to achieve it!

We are soon starting the legal process to make Ravenstar Games official. We have been looking for information and professional advice these past months to make sure we do the whole process right, as it's a huge (and scary) leap for all of us. As you may or not remember, we started this as a passion project to be able to work the job of our dreams. Everything we have is either made by ourselves or paid with our personal savings, as only one of us has a steady job. It's terrifying to think we are going to do this, to invest what little we have in something we are passionate about but that could sadly not bear any fruit. Of course, we are staying positive and will work as hard as we have been working to make it happen, but doubts and fears arise every now and then! 💜

Also, our masterpost has been updated! Now it matches our itch.io page. There's more info I'd like to tweak here and there, but the important stuff (the premise, duh) has successfully been updated!

We have also started to think about the Kickstarter, as we are getting very very close to the demo release and we want to take as much advantage as possible of the momentum the release may give us. I don't dare to give a date yet, but we are very, very close ; v ;!!!

What a wonderful month! I'll never get tired of saying that. Everything is going great for us and the success of the casting call has given us the little confidence boost we were lacking. Well, at least when it comes to me—blame it on the OCD! As the director and the one who manages all social medias, I'm always worried of my performance, but the team has been there for me whenever I have doubted my abilities. I can only hope April proves to be as fantastic as March has!

AHH thank you so much!!! it’s going to be called If You’ll Have Me, and it’s currently slated for fall 2023! we originally planned for a spring release but had to push things back because of industry-wide supply chain issues, printing delays, etc... for a more in-depth explanation i found this twitter thread very helpful!

general life update

i wanted to make this post three months ago but in a tragic turn of events, the one day i set aside to accomplish some personal tasks made a terrible mess of my plans 😔 the deadline i mentioned back then was for inks, so i’ve since moved on to color! i’ve been working in the morning, then coloring in the evening and through the night. it’s pretty grueling, but i’m trying to be good about stretching and resting because if my body disintegrates i can’t draw more gay shit and what then?

i feel like i’m doing okay, all things considered! i’m just tired mostly. god, i’m so tired...

this book has been my life for all of 2022 which is why i don’t have much else to talk about 😂 i have a big deadline coming up so i’m really hustling right now. i actually have to deal with packing and moving as soon as i’m done, so i’m not sure when i’ll pop up again! maybe late september, maybe october... we’ll have to see!

I am going to assume you noticed this years ago and have already written 15 essays on it and I am very not smart for only realizing this now, but in addition to Crowley's noted interest in Pomefiore over other dorms (and in the novel, Pomefiore's dorm is described as having a similar aura to that of the main campus), there...there is a crow. Raven?

There is a black fluff-bird. In the scene in 1937's Snow White, with the evil queen and the poison apple. I can't. That has GOT to mean something?

Thank you for the ask- please don’t worry about “not being smart!” Σ੧(❛□❛✿) Im happy to answer any questions. And this is a very good ask, because the thing is- the role of the bird in Snow White is very unclear!

There is indeed a black bird in the Snow White. It’s interesting how Wikipedia pages refer to the bird as “the Raven,” but in the Twisted Wonderland fandom, he’s commonly referred to as “the Crow,” with people thinking Dire Crowley is based off him. If anyone can clear this up with official Disney information, I’d greatly appreciate it because I’m uncertain of what the bird from Snow White is supposed to be! Haha I like the “black fluff-bird” though, what a cute name.

Funnily enough, neither Diablo or the Crow resemble the bird they’re supposed to be. They both look a lot more like blackbirds, as crows and ravens tend to be entirely black. Diaval from the live action Maleficent movie, however, is entirely black like a raven.

The Crow from Snow White seems more like a pet than the sidekick that Diablo was. The Crow mostly serves as an audience stand-in, scared and horrified by the Evil Queen’s plans. He seems to be very afraid of her, but his fate in Snow White is unknown. Snow White was released in 1937, and Crowley actually makes a reference to this date in one of his exam voicelines. Because of Crowley’s obsession with Pomefiore and the Fairest Queen, some fans assume he’s based on the Crow.

Diablo, on the other hand, was far more capable than Maleficent’s little army. He elevated her appearance and relished in her evil schemes. At the end of the Sleeping Beauty movie, he was turned to stone by the fairies.

In the live action Maleficent movie, Diaval is an interpretation of Diablo. He becomes even more significant because Maleficent turns Diaval into a human, and he serves under her as thanks for her rescuing him. Since he can switch between raven and human form at will, his fighting prowess is even better. Interesting how similar Crowley’s hairstyle is to Diaval’s, isn’t it? Because if his shape shifting ability (it’s implied Crowley can transform into a bird in the animations), connection with ravens, and foreshadowing of potentially evil schemes, some fans assume Crowley is based on Diablo. It doesn’t help that Yana Toboso, creator of Twisted Wonderland, says that Dire Crowley is pronounced as DIA Crowley, not Dire. In Japanese, this sounds like the English word “Dear,” as in “beloved.” Interesting how Dia sounds similar to Diablo or Diaval, yes?

In Japanese, “karasu” is a word that doesn’t specify the difference between crows and ravens- both birds as essentially the same thing. Interestingly enough, there may be a translation error in the English server…OR it’s done on purpose.

In the chats, Rook reference the Fairest Queen’s bird as a crow. Like I said, he’s described as a pet.

But MALLEUS describes Diablo, who is EXPLICITLY a raven in Sleeping Beauty, as a crow. Hm?? Did the TWST translators not know about this- which is very odd considering how well known Diablo’s lore is- or is this done purposefully? Crowley=Revan? 🤪🐦‍⬛ But here, Diablo is a scout, fought against armies, and was Maleficent’s right hand man. It’s interesting how Malleus says it would be a marvel to meet someone like this “maybe someday.” Seems like foreshadowing for Levan in the dreamworld or Crowley, doesn’t it?

Sorry, this got very long! I hope I was able to clear some things up 🧐 I personally think that Crowley is inspired by both Diablo and the Crow, but only time can tell what he truly is. Thank you for the ask! 💞🐦‍⬛

Okay YES this is great, but as a stupid FeMC fan, I have some things to say:

*assuming the leaks and rumors are true, and based on how they got “ReLOAD” correct, let’s just roll with it.

This was Atlus’ opportunity to create a definitive version of Persona 3. Like THIS IS THE ONE TO PLAY, not FES, not P3P, THIS. Fresh with all the content, not a story beat missing, everything.

Visual upgrade? Of course. Everything looks stunning, on par with Persona 5, which was exactly what everyone was hoping for as far as the visual fidelity of the game goes.

So why, Atlus? Why would you choose not to include FeMC? (or are they?) ( potentially delusional rant incoming but tldr; it would be stupid of them to cut her )

Atlus admitted years ago during the pre-release period of Q2 that the inclusion of FeMC provided their biggest boom for pre-orders in that game. The devs openly stated in an interview that they did not expect her trailer to create so much hype around the game, which ultimately resulted in their sales marking at a higher number than anticipated.

Then there was Atlus’ decision to port P3P over FES to the next console generation. Some people speculated that such a decision was indicative of Atlus’ intentions not to include her in the remake, thus P3P being players’ only chance to play as her. Which I call BS. Why would Atlus make the dumb ass decision to tell on themselves and say "Hey, see this content here? Yeah fuck you, we’re cutting it from the remake!”

It’s especially suspect considering for some people, that port of P3P might’ve been their first EVER experience with P3. I know a lot of us have been fans for a long time, but for some people, that slew of ports was their first opportunity to dip their toes into the franchise. Imagine how shocked those people will be with they play the remake only to find a whole route of content cut.

And lastly, Atlus’ constant promotion of FeMC during the 25th anniversary, following their decision to wholly cut her from the 20th anniversary five years prior.

All of this feels like Atlus’ desperate attempt to remind people that FeMC exists (not that we needed their help) when they could’ve just as easily ported FES to next gen consoles, excluded her from the 25th anniversary, and focused fully on making sure the usual MC remained at the forefront of people’s minds.

Finally, I think its important to remember two points: Atlus hasn’t officially announced this game, and it’s slated release period is Q1 2024, leaving plenty of marketing time before the game comes out.

I think it’s perfectly reasonable for Atlus to throw all of their marketing into the original MC, showing him off, giving him all the bells and whistles to kick start the hype, and then reveal FeMC at a later date. Other ‘anime-esque’ game devs do exactly the same: Caligula, Honkai: Star Rail, etc.

Just because this initial trailer doesn’t include her doesn’t mean she’s been cut entirely. I truly think Atlus knows all too well how much she means to some fans (and how much money they could potentially lose by not including her) for them to completely exclude her from the remake.

With that being said, if all’s said and done and she still isn’t there, believe me, I won’t be playing ReLOAD on day one. Partially because I’m bitter, but also because I don’t have $60-70 USD to be spending on a game that excludes one of my most precious video game characters.

During Jump Festa, unfortunately there was no announcement regarding when they will release sxf season 3.

Maybe it's to give Endo more time to develop the manga. Or (I heard) that one of the studio (WIT) has to do other project first.

With the release of season 3 still being uncertain, will you not join us to binge read the manga???

I SHALL NOT BREAK NOR GIVE IN TO TEMPTATION!!

All joking aside, I doubt it'll take longer than a year to release season 3. Calculating by the rough number of manga chapters I know have been released, they have more than enough to do one 12-episode season while Endo develops the manga during 2024. And even if Endo takes a (well deserved) long break, they can still release season 3 in fall of 2024 and then see if they have enough manga content to adapt to another 12-episode season in fall of 2025. I mean, the content for season 3 is practically already there. What's stopping them from working on it now?

Considering the success of Spy x Family, I would be surprised if WIT Studios decided to work on another project. They practically have most of the script and storyboards ideas for season 3 ready in the form of the manga chapters, season 2 has been doing great, sxf in general is selling like crazy, why put it in the background when it's pretty much a guaranteed success?

Unless they want to put more work in animating it, which would be awesome. I would totally wait longer if that's the case (while kicking and screaming internally, but that's my business).

Since the movie is just about to come out, maybe they thought it would be better to announce season 3 after the movie is out? I mean, last season ended with just an announcement for the movie and a "2023" as a "release date" for season 2, with teases for the bullet-in-butt date and the cruise arc. We knew absolutely nothing before that (us mere mortals anime onlys who don't brave far into the internet, at least) so I'm not surprised they didn't say anything yet. I hope we get an official announcement as the last episode airs... and maybe a couple teases for the next season?? 👀👀

I want to hope my resolve won't break during the hiatus. Last time was difficult, and I did give in that one (1) time, but this time I've got a more fulfilling job, more things to spend time on, and more ideas for crack recaps. Maybe doing one crack recap per week will help fill the void, lol! So I think I will manage. Besides, I'm not really a binge enjoyer (the fact that I binge-watched the first cour of first season in about six hours notwithstanding) so it will feel super weird now if I binge all those chapters and then have to wait two weeks for what I've been used to seeing as half an episode. Even though the anime comes in small packs of episodes and not as often as I'd like, I like the pace of it.

HEY GAMERS it's really early in the morning when im typing this but i literally couldn't wait any longer LOL

I'm PROUD TO ANNOUNCE that Dread Me Not: The Animated Series is currently in PRE PRODUCTION!

So whats that mean exactly?

Dread Me Not is a series I started in 2018 as a webcomic. It only lasted about 50 pages, but I eventually decided a webcomic was NOT the best way to tell the story, and would require me to compromise on my original vision for the series, so I put it on an indefinite hiatus.

I've continued workshopping it over the years, and a lot of things have changed since the initial release! I hope those who enjoyed the comic before will like this story even more!

The changes in the series story are the result of a clearer vision overall of the messages I'd like to convey.

The series officially entering pre-production means that you'll start to see more and more updates as time goes on!

The plan at the moment is to produce six episodes (between 10-20 minutes each) as a first season, and then begin releasing them publicly.

There is currently no release date because this project is just starting to get off the ground. Many portions of the script are completed, as well as multiple pages worth of storyboards.

In the coming [Amount Of Time], you may see posted casting calls, or announcements about the official Dread Me Not team! I've already gotten a few folks together (to be announced at a later date) that will be helping me along with this project, and I'm so excited to share more details with you!

Again we all have a lot of work ahead of us, and it'll be a while before DMN is actually something you can sit down and watch, but despite this, I hope I've at least gotten you a bit interested in what the future holds for these characters.

I'd like to cap off this long thread with a brief story synopsis:

Dread Me Not is the story of 3 strangers meeting in a desolate place known as "The After". There are very few other people around, and powerful creatures known as "Rave Demons" roam the land, attacking anyone they see.

When the cast awakens in this strange wasteland, they resolve to team up, protect each other, and help anyone in need that they come across.

Dread Me Not explores themes of loss, friendship, queer relationships, reconciling personal trauma, navigating the slow and difficult process of healing, and much more!

Please stay tuned for more updates. As a small team of myself and friends that volunteered to help, I ask that you please be patient while waiting for more info. This is very much a "long-haul" passion project that I will be hard @ work on for many months, and likely years ahead.

IMPORTANT FLOP SQUAD UPDATES

This is a rather long post, but if you're a fan of Flop Squad, this will be worth it!

First off, I'd like to thank all of you for your support on the series thus far. You gave me the motivation to turn this into an actual thing and not just a quick joke drawing. I'm glad everyone is enjoying the series so far!

Now that that's out of the way, onto the updates.

Now that I know I want to make this a full series, and that I have a decent idea of how long it's gonna be, I'd say it's time we finally get a schedule in. From now on, I will no longer be posting singular page updates. Instead, I will upload an entire chapter all at once at a set date. (Well, once I know when the date is, anyway.) Inbetween I'll post small filler things, like one off pages or even short stories!

Ah, speaking of chapter updates, it looks like we have one right now...

The entirety of chapter 3 will be releasing sometime next month!

After hearing about the still unclear Key abilities, Noiji and Shikaku visit a relaxing village located near Mt. Nantai in hopes of drawing out Noiji's Key.

Age gap + height difference + teacher/student

Young Bad Education (Dayoo): I fell in love with Mizusawa’s eyes on the cover and bought the volume in Japanese years ago without an ounce of idea what the story was about. No regrets. Young Bad Education and its continuation Young Good Boyfriend will feed your soul. You can read it on Manga Planet (Futekiya).

Hitorijime My Hero (Memeco Arii): This title is a classic so you might have already seen it but just in case. Hitorijime My Hero has an anime adaptation as well (I’m anime-only) and the manga has a spin-off with the side couple as far as I know. The height difference is less pronounced here but if you’re like me and you love delinquents as well, this will be your jam.

The Trees in Spring (Nakaoka Naka): I’m kind of cheating but I’ll do anything to recommend this title! MCs here are a teacher and student, but the teacher isn’t teaching the student, they meet each other in a different way. I have reviewed this title before and take any chance I can get to recommend it, so there you go!

Warbler, Sing of Spring (Nago Nayuta): I felt like they don’t have height difference (and checked the first chapter again) but the MCs are always drawn in weird angles so I’m not sure. Another title with the delinquent sprinkled on top. Really enjoyed reading this, Nago Nayuta’s works have a cuteness I like and the uke in Warbler is kind of unhinged xD Love him!

The Neighbor I Desire (Makoto): This one started off a bit weird for me but I can assure you it’s super cute! I have written a review before so if you want more details, here you go.

The Good Teacher (Eeej): Another title I reviewed before. It’s pretty, fun but short and while the plot is not this series’ strongest point, I think it’s worth giving a shot.

Love for Sale (Dal Hyeon-ji): It’s official, you guys. I will literally disintegrate if I don’t recommend Love for Sale, the doctor said it not me. But honestly, do yourself a solid one and read it if you still haven’t. The pinnacle of ultimate goodness. I wrote on LfS before but since the post contaşns spoilers and is more about sugar dating than a review, I’ll spare you the link. On Lezhin.

Love Me Doctor (ANA): Another series I constantly recommended on Twitter and got a couple of unassuming, kind-hesrted people to read it with me as well. Focuses on a university student and a urology doctor he had tovisit for his ED. If you’re comfortable reading a title where a doctor kind of uses his position to get to know a patient and stepping over boundaries, please give it a chance! TOTALLY worth the time. On Lezhin.

On or Off (A1): Can’t say I understood the drama with the artist and the series being wrapped up rather quickly, but I read this popular webtoon with joy! Not as big of a fan as the rest of the BL fans but if youdig these two tropes I think it’s worth checking out. On Tappytoon, but I think TOKYOPOP has released it in print.

Metro (Chika Hongo): This is more of a dramatic title, where a high school student is being touched regularly by the same man on the train and he likes it, until one day he follows him home upon being invited. If you prefer a story that’s laced with trauma and flawed characters, this is for you! On Manga Planet.

Pound Cake on a Sunday (Amida Shizuku): Man this series is SUPER funny that I had to reread today! A father and son lives alone after the mother’s passing and one day, out of the blue, the father starts complimenting the new transfer to the company about how he’s so beautiful or saying how shiny his hair is. Is his father gay? Did he finally lose it? Read and find out! Very different from your usual BL, worth your time!

Bonus - I’m a Dom and I Want You To Stroke My Head (KINACO): Has dom/sub universe (a big fan) height difference as well, but it’s a teacher x teacher pairing.

I should probably make an introduction oops..

Hello!! My name is Khrisz but by pen name I go by z.k woodrow (or just z.k)!

I am a 16 year old genderqueer person with a passion for storytelling and art. I aspire to become a YA horror author someday in the future!! I've been drawing digitally for around 5-6 years.

SO! What is there to expect from me?

• I am currently working on my first YA horror book: THE NEW NORMAL which has started its official first draft on March 31st of this year (2023) and WILL include illustrations drawn by me! :) I don't go by a schedule, so the date for this books release is a mystery of the future! But fear not, for I will be giving out updates from time to time ^_^!

• On the side of art, I occasionally draw characters from my book(s) and I'm mostly original content centered. Though I also SOMETIMES draw fandom artworks (Current hyperfixiation is The Spirit Bares Its Teeth and Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White)

• My works heavily rely on symbolism! I like to work with animal symbolism the most. Though surely other topics will appear later on!

Then the "angels" come and the world erupts into armaggedon...teens develop powers and everything they've ever been becomes a thing of the past as they try and not become 'saints'. (CONCEPT YA HORROR NOVEL ABOUT RELIGIOUS TRAUMA)

- TO ESCAPE BY A "HARE": Story about a boy with unusual rabbit-like ears who lives with his overly protective mother in an isolated house in the woods. His mother says the outside world is dangerous and he must stay at home. A few "bad apples" show up on his yard and tell him he's in danger living in his house. Then he starts seeing ghosts that beg to be freed and are thirsty for revenge. (CONCEPT YA HORROR NOVEL ABOUT THE ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A MOTHER AND SON)

- BIRDCAGE (UNDECIDED TITLE): Story about a 16 year olds car crashing down in the forest so they are forced to stay the night in a strangers house who has dreams of becoming a well known artist. Soon they realize they can't leave, and find themself stuck in a cycle of torture with the painter who is mentally un-well. After 2 years of torture, a mysterious car pulls up in the driveway. It's the MC's car. (CONCEPT YA PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR NOVEL WITH A TIME PARADOX PLOT)

Bill and Ted: What They Mean to the LGBT Community

Hello! This is my first tumblr post! So before you read any further, here is a brief introduction!

My name is Cameron! My pronouns are he/him, and I am a 16 year old transgender kid currently living in America. Given the state of most of the country I am living in today, it's safe to assume that I've seen a lot just simply growing up here. The topics of my posts will be mostly random, although each blog will have a point and a focus, as I intend to dedicate this account for organizing and explaining my ideas in a well thought out and cohesive way, often tying these thoughts into the media I consume. Some of these posts will be about my personal experiences, opinions, beliefs, and thoughts, all with a hard basis in reality. Some might be persuasive, argumentative, or informative, as I intend to let the world peek into my perspective of the world around me. I do not officially speak for any minorities or groups of peoples or organizations, as all of my blogs are my bias, and are rooted in the way I think, feel and act, as well as things I have simply observed. Any ignorance on my part is in no way intentional, so always feel free to correct me. With that being said, my name is Cameron, and welcome to my blog!

Research available to write a post solely on this subject was very limited, so I will try to articulate everything I write to the best of my ability, and excuse me for any absence of cohesion and structure.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is a film released in 1989, distributed by Orion Pictures, a subsidiary of the better known Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Studios. This film was the first installment to what would soon be a franchise, spawning two sequels in 1991 (Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey) and 2020 (Bill and Ted Face The Music) respectively. A franchise that proved to be profitable, raking in millions in the box office and boasting a spin-off animated series (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures), a video game for the NES, and other novelties.

The first film, and easily the most memorable, follows the story of two teenage boys, Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted "Theodore" Logan. Two known slackers who are doomed to flunk out of school because of their grades in history. To prevent this from happening, the two of them must perform an oral report detailing different famous historical figures, and how they may view the world of their little Californian town of San Dimas in the year 1988. With this seemingly impossible task at hand to create this report overnight, all hope is lost until they are met with a time traveler from the future named Rufus, who presents them with a time traveling phone booth. Using this booth, Bill and Ted go back in time to gather different famous people from throughout the world's history, with the intent to bring them back to San Dimas to help them present in their oral report.

This movie at it's core is very comedic and lighthearted, with the two main characters easily being the defining novelty of the film, with their wholesome friendship always on display throughout the course of the entire movie and franchise. Bill and Ted are simple characters at face value. Teenage boys, both seemingly naive, deemed as "lazy slackers", who speak with dated vocabulary and valley accents, only seeking to have a good time and gawk at girls their age. Being a stereotype of the nerdy, stupid, metalheads of the era, Bill and Ted were definitely a mold for the underdogs of the audience to fit themselves into.

So, what does this have to do with the LGBT community as we know it? Assuming you have seen this movie and are familiar with our titular characters, Bill and Ted, all of what was previously mentioned is already known to you. If you have not seen this movie, I suggest you stop reading and go do so, the movie is available to rent on Prime Video or stream on Paramount Plus with a subscription. (Of course pirating is always an option, but please be safe on the internet, and only do so if the movie isn't currently readily available to you. I do not condone any kind of illegal or unlawful activity.)

Spoiler warnings exclusively for the Bill and Ted film trilogy are in effect for the rest of this post. You have been warned.

Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) are established as best of friends from the beginning of the movie as we are introduced to the exposition of the film by Rufus (George Carlin) as he refers to them as "the two Great Ones."

From the get-go, Bill and Ted are already seen as great friends, as they spend their time in Bill's garage, practicing guitar for their band Wyld Stallyns, as they laugh and have a good time together. They keep this act for the entire film, their friendship never letting up, and they stay together for the duration of the series, not just in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. They figure out different situations together, usually listening to one another and sharing ideas, one hardly ever being upset or angry at the other when things go wrong. In fact, the most angry we ever see either of them get at one another is when Bill irritably tells Ted to shut up when Ted would adoringly talk about Bill's stepmother, Missy, with Ted hardly being afflicted by this, only smiling at him in response.

Two best friends, who in their school life, are implied to not fit in among the crowd. They are called out in class, and laughed at by the other students when they can't answer the teachers' questions. In a deleted scene, Bill and Ted walk to school together, where before they get to class, they are picked on by a few jocks or seemingly popular kids in their school. Ted in particular has a strained relationship with his father. Ted's father, is shown to be a cold, demanding and hard hitting man, who weighs his high expectations onto his son. In the first few scenes of the film, one of these scenes is an interaction between him and Ted, where he tells Ted that if he fails history, Ted is to be sent to an Alaskan Military school.

Bill and Ted are at their core, a spin on the underdog stereotype, where they against all odds, do the impossible and face a task together in spite of what their teacher, their parents, or their implied classmates might say. This underdog trope is one of many that members of the LGBT community, myself included, can reconcile with. Familial and societal pressure to fit in, and yet still being outcast because of who they are. Bill and Ted certainly do not fit in among their peers, although not as apparent in the movie we know it as, research into the production of this film speaks more on this implied trope. Bill and Ted are certainly not popular, and are known as nuisances to the school.

Although once adapted for the big screen, Bill and Ted were modified to be older, seeming to be around the ages of 16-17, and less cookie-cutter characters, the original characterization of Bill and Ted remains. Even with the remnants of this vision remaining, Bill and Ted are highly relatable characters to their targeted audience. Many of those who struggle with their own identities might see themselves in these characters, feeling as if the weight of the world is pushing on them, and if not pushed to do what is asked of them can mean the ends of their lives as they know it. Still, Bill and Ted raise their heads high and adapt to their situation with gung-ho attitudes, which serve as inspiration to those who might be struggling in their own lives.

The story of Bill and Ted's wacky time traveling adventure is universal, with the two main characters appealing to a wide audience, and not just those of the LGBT variety. Yet what makes this film particularly special to specific members of LGBT community is the very stuff that holds this movie together as a whole: Bill and Ted's friendship. Due to a severe lack of media representation, I and many other members of the LGBT community resort to seeing traits and ourselves in characters when they're not there or not intended to be there. Bill and Ted's unbreakable friendship is never established to be anything more than just a friendship, but looking through the lenses of a queer person, they can be interpreted as a couple, or at the very least, to be less than heterosexual, despite their on-screen relationships and romantic interests in the princesses they meet in Medieval England, Joanna and Elizabeth. Taking what is already there and building on it, shaping the movies canon to create something they can further relate to.

Bill and Ted definitely care about each other, otherwise the interpretation of their relationship being less than platonic wouldn't hold much merit. Bill tends to show his concern for Ted more often in the first installment of the franchise. In a scene where Bill and Ted are in Medieval England, after fooling around in suits of armor, Ted falls over and falls down a flight of stairs.

This scene is one of the most talked about clips when it comes to Bill and Ted and their sexualities. Bill, after witnessing Ted presumably die, he proceeds to mourn his friend. While witnessing the events unfold leading up to Ted's death, he shows clear concern for his friend by running after him down the flight of stairs. While mourning, Ted's attacker appears and Bill immediately gets up to fight in an attempt to avenge his friend, saying the iconic line "you killed Ted, you Medieval dickweed!" While anybody would mourn their friend if they were killed, not many would actively throw themselves at somebody to avenge them, showing that Bill would intentionally put himself in harms way to protect/save Ted, which can suggest a more-than-friendship between the two of them.

To address the elephant in the room, Bill and Ted do use a homophobic slur after they hug each other in this scene. Back then, this was seen as socially acceptable and the word f*g was a word in the general lexicon. This movie was released not too long after the historical AIDS crisis in 1981, where many gay people were blamed and hatecrimed for the spread and outbreak of the sexually transmitted disease (AIDS) due to a spread of misinformation and hate rallying against members of the gay community at the time. All christian churches were condemning homosexuality, so gay people were seen as deviants, and treated like many other much more heinous and harmful deviants would be treated today (i.e p*dophiles and z**philes)

The use of this slur doesn't just date the film to a degree that might taint it's overall lighthearted and wholesome image, but the use of the slur sometimes serves as a form of signaling to some members of the LGBT community. The word f*g has since been reclaimed by the community, and many gay people today use that word to describe themselves or others who are comfortable with it and use that word frequently as well. Bill and Ted call each other f*gs because they are insecure about their loving friendship for one another, and is in no way used maliciously, which is why many of us have looked at the two of them and decided that they could be interpreted as a gay couple.

It's no doubt that Bill and Ted have been through a lot together, and since the beginning of the film, it can be assumed that they have been friends for a long time because of the way their personalities nearly mirror one another. While they're not completely the same (Bill seems to be just a bit more outspoken than Ted, usually being the voice of reason at times, while Ted is the 'ladies man', and is more observant, contributing to their shenanigans by helping to come up with ideas to weasel their way out trouble.) Their demeanor and behavior are damning evidence of their friendship having started long before their adventure through time was conceived. As a queer person myself, I have certain close, long-lasting friendships where our dynamic is similar to that of Bill and Ted's, and if being queer has taught me anything, it's that falling in love with your best friend can certainly come easy if you let it.

Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey is the second installment in the Bill and Ted's franchise and is definitely less frequently talked about. The plot is somewhat convoluted, so explaining it here is a luxury I cannot afford, but to add context to the clip, Bill and Ted are being hung over a cliff by two evil robot clones of themselves, these evil robots having been tasked to kill the real Bill and Ted so the clones can take over their lives. In a desperate attempt to save themselves, Bill and Ted pretend to be in love with the robot clones to increase the possibility of the clones letting them walk free. This obviously doesn't work, and Bill and Ted are thrown off the cliff. While this scene is usually just there to be a joke, digging deeper, it can be seen that maybe Bill and Ted are inadvertently confessing their feelings for one another before death. And while Bill and Ted do not truly "die" (this movie takes the concept of death very lightly, and character death isn't an end-all for a character's development) it's still plausible to assume that this is how many people view Bill and Ted at this point.

Many project themselves onto Bill and Ted. I mean, we are human, and projection is something that a lot of people do, whether that be intentional or unintentional. Seeing yourself in a character, whether that be explicitly or not, is something that means a lot to many people, which is why media representation is so important. One minor detail can go a long way. I have already mentioned that I am a transgender male. I struggle with my identity and those struggles have taken over many aspects of my life that many cis people hardly have to think twice about. The way I dress plays a big role in my self image, so any 'feminine' clothing, or any clothing that can be interpreted as 'feminine' was a no-go for me for the longest time.

Seeing Bill wear a crop top for most of the first movie was a detail that I and many other people have grown to appreciate. Fashion for men in the 80's was wildly different to what fashion for men is now, so then the crop top wouldn't have made any impact. As times have changed, the crop top has become a more 'feminine' article of clothing.

Despite identifying as male, it was never clothing that gave me a problem with my identity, but rather the connotations attached to it. If I could be called a male while wearing a bikini at the beach, I would wear a bikini. Clothing ultimately has no gender, so when I see a piece of clothing I like, simply wearing it wouldn't tear apart my self image. Since society has insisted on putting people and inanimate objects into little defining boxes, wearing a skirt to school would mean I'd get a sleuth of 'she', 'her', 'ma'am', and 'girl' hurled at me, which is the root of the problem. Seeing Bill rock his crop top, not being shy to expose his midriff to most everyone who encounters him, is empowering. Because of Bill, I had grown to be more confident in wearing crop tops in public, despite what others might say or think. And damn, do I look good doing it.

And it's not just me who has noticed this either. Many people have gone out of their way to headcanon Bill himself as transgender FTM, and Alex Winter himself has spoken out in support of the headcanon.

In addition, I have noticed many other fans headcanon Ted as non-binary along with Bill being transgender. There is clearly something in these characters that speak to the LGBT youth of today, the franchise having come a long way since the 80's and is still being enjoyed today. As a member of the community myself, this is something that I love exponentially, and I definitely feel less alone in this battle of being a queer kid in a big world that still hasn't grown to love me the way other queers love me as one of their own. There are some points in this essay that I didn't touch on, but I feel like my point has still been made. Bill and Ted are characters that have shown themselves to be universal in their love for each other and their friendship, and it has touched the lives of many, even today. Most importantly, they have touched my life, and the lives of my queer brethren around the world. May Bill and Ted continue to be excellent to each other!

Frank Angones quotes - Pt. 1

Doing a new ongoing thing where I comment on the online quotes of DuckTales 2017 creator Frank Angones (and sometimes other members of the production crew) about the show... particularly about Gyro and Team Science. (Look at the dates of each quote for more context):

Naturally, Frank was talking about the then-upcoming episode 'Astro B.O.Y.D.', which released May 2, 2020 as season 3's 6th episode. That is probably one of the most ambitious and high-quality episodes of the series on so many levels: writing, animation, emotion/heart, action, tension, voice-acting! And it's the big- and only- Gyro-centered episode of the series, which finally gave him the backstory and character development he needed, despite it only being a total filler episode and irrelevant to the F.O.W.L./Missing Mysteries storyline (heck, they barely even focused on Gyro's development/growth in the only other two episodes in season 3 he was in- 'Beaks In the Shell', which came out three episodes away from the very last one, and 'The Last Adventure').

It is AWESOME to know that Frank considered it his favorite episode of season 3 (or at least one of them), despite it being purely filler!! Honestly, I wonder if that's because of the insane amount of anime references they threw in (Astro Boy being the main one, ofc), or because of how well-done and high-quality that episode is on so many levels, or because Gyro was finally given his time to shine and be developed as more than just a joke character whose main thing pre-'Astro B.O.Y.D.' was being a slapstick-prone, arrogant, hardened, wacky mad scientist whose inventions accidentally turned evil all the time, and who nobody took seriously and everybody overlooked. Probably all of the above, and it makes me happy because I'm such a huge Gyro fan.

BOOOO. Now, GRANTED, Lena's role in season 1 and her development was directly tied into the season's main storyline with Magica's scheme leading up to 'The Shadow War.' Boyd, on the other hand- who was originally meant to be a throwaway character in season 2's 'Happy Birthday, Doofus Drake'- was brought back in season 3's 'Astro B.O.Y.D.' as directly linked to Gyro's past (and present, in the sense that Gyro's past made so hardened, cynical, and seemingly arrogant to mask his secret insecurities). And 'Astro B.O.Y.D.' was purely a filler episode that had no real importance to the main plot of season 3; Boyd didn't even show up again all the way until the finale (and even then, wasn't in it too much; and he and Huey weren't seen interacting once in it)...

...BUT, here's the thing. Because Boyd became Huey's best friend in 'Astro B.O.Y.D.' (and their bond was so meaningful and so wonderful), that automatically should've elevated Boyd's status closer to the main characters- closer to the Duck family- like both Lena and Violet were because they were Webby's best friends. Those two girls got a good amount of screentime, being so closely associated with Webby. That's why I was so hoping to not only see more of Huey and Boyd's friendship after 'Astro B.O.Y.D.', but also see Boyd become officially part of the kids' group... which, sadly, we didn't see on-screen (although I definitely hc he did become friends and hang out with the rest of them throughout the rest of season 3, even though we didn't actually see it; I don't for a moment believe 'The Last Adventure' was the first time Boyd interacted with all the rest of the kids, except maybe Gosalyn because she lives in St. Canard).

It’s interesting to me how this just happened to happen so soon after my passion for the show had reawoken so strongly as to instantly cure years-long burnout, and even sooner after I’d started streaming it with friends in a server while separately introducing my QPP over virtual dates.

In light of the author’s unexpected passing, I hope this will be an opportunity for more people to not just watch and/or play Yu-Gi-Oh for themselves or introduce more friends to it, but especially to watch the Japanese release(s) of Yu-Gi-Oh-- and I don’t mean that in the usual sub-vs-dub discourse kind of way.

Setting aside the English dubs themselves, 4Kidz Entertainment cut and edited a lot of the content to make Yu-Gi-Oh more “family-friendly” and less Japanese, retconning several of the characters’ names (even some of the white ones) and even replacing the whole soundtrack. Their censorship of emotional weight or serious subject matter made the plot incoherent or completely absent in several scenes. This site goes into more detail episode-by-episode, but I’ll throw in one of the most well-known examples:

(If I recall correctly, the final season of the second show GX never even aired because there wouldn’t be anything left to watch after all the cuts, but to quote someone else, there’s no denying they really do go right from school life to the war crimes part of Judai’s Wikipedia page.)

Granted, even in Japanese, the Konami anime is already toned down compared to Toei before it (widely called season zero, which can be watched here), and that too is toned down compared to the earlier manga. On one hand, it’s hysterical looking further and further back, but on the other, it’s infuriating that 4kidz still diluted it even more.

I want more people to remember Yu-Gi-Oh for how it was meant to be viewed, how Takahashi intended for it to be viewed. I’m all for piracy, especially in the interest of saving media from becoming lost media under censorship politics or etc.; but if you want viewership to show heightened interest wherever it’s available more officially, Crunchyroll has the sub. If anyone out there has other streaming services that have it, please mention which ones in the notes.

tl;dr: Yu-Gi-Oh is good actually, 4kidz just scoobied it. My way of honoring Takahashi’s memory is to encourage people and their friends to watch the sub for themselves and get back a chance to fall in love with it like I did.

My Osica cards finally arrived! (they were originally scheduled to release on Feb.24th, but then the date got postponed until end of March).

So kind of a crazy story with these cards. I didn't know anything about Osica as the only card game I regularly play is Weiss Schwarz, which is a crossover card game from Japan that was also brought to the US several years back (it mostly has anime series but other franchises too, like Marvel and Star Wars).

I was really hoping SxF would come to Weiss, but back at the beginning of this year, Osica announced that they'd be releasing a SxF set. It's rare that more than one company gets the rights to release the same series in their card games, so after that announcement, I thought the chances of Weiss getting SxF were shot. So I decided to preorder some Osica cards just to see what they were like. By that point they only had starter decks left to preorder on AmiAmi, so I got two of those. Then later on, when Osica announced that the release will be delayed until the end of March, I noticed that AmiAmi got more of the cards back in stock. But unfortunately their descriptions were a bit...misleading. They kept using the word "pack" with their description for their starter deck boxes, and I always associate a "pack" in terms of card games as card packs that have random cards in them. So when I saw the below item, I thought it was a starter deck that also came with five packs of cards.

What also threw me off was the price, which is extremely cheap compared to what Weiss Schwarz charges for their starter decks (literally the cost of one Weiss starter deck is triple what it is for Osica!)

Because of all this, I thought I had preordered two starter decks and two boxes with five packs of cards each...but instead I ended up getting twelve of the exact same starter deck and no packs! I'm a little bummed, but it's not a huge deal. I can't blame AmiAmi too much as maybe I would have figured it out if I scrutinized the description more. At least they weren't that expensive and I have a few friends who would probably want a deck, lol.

Anyway, these are the cards in the starter deck.

The starter deck comes with the only Twiyor and Anya & Yor cards in the set, so that's a plus!

Unlike Weiss Schwarz, Osica has no presence outside of Japan and thus no English-language resources available for how to play or what the cards do (doesn't help that it's a relatively new card game as well). So I spent a bunch of hours last night trying to learn how to play by translating the rules on the official web site and the paper rulebook that came with the deck. I think I have the basics down...luckily I have friends who are also into Weiss Schwarz and other card games and want to give Osica a go too! If we do end up liking the game and figure out how to play, maybe I'll buy the actual booster packs that I intended to buy, lol (here are all the cards in the SxF set by the way. Kinda weird that they only cover cour 1).

But after all of that, it was announced that SxF would also be coming to Weiss Schwarz after all!

The Japanese set is scheduled to release on July 21st, while the English version (which I'm going to get) is still listed as "coming soon." Hopefully the release date will be the same or close to the Japanese one.

Recently Weiss Schwarz showed off the new SxF illustrations that will be used for promoting the cards!

With all these new cards I bought/am going to buy, I'm glad I also got these sleeves to put them in!
