Stargirl S3
I’ve been kind of disappointed with this season as a whole. I’ve enjoyed parts of it and some humor but it just seems kind of all over the place
1) Remeber when it was supposed to be a murder mystery? Murder mysteries, if I’m not mistaken, are supposed to have the culprit be someone that is currently accountable, not someone that you don’t even see. Just compared to S2′s horror tone, they just couldn’t keep to the genre they were supposedly going for
2) A lot of the episodes, especially after the Infinity Inc 2 parter just seem to be leadup to a shocking reveal to end the episode on.
3) They leave you waiting to figure out what the tease from the last episode was about
Ex: E11: Sylvester asking Courtney’s permisiion to go after Icicle, E12: “Oh you wanted to see that that scene?...Not needed
4) Icicle returning...It’s just not that surprising a twist and I’m just tired of  the “Oh shoot we can’t think of a new solo villain, bring back S1 villain” trope that the CW seems to love doing.
5) For a show named after her, Courtney has not had much time actually being suited up as Stargirl.
I am disappointed the show is cancelled, but I wish it could have been on a better season story. It just feels like to me that the crew had a feeling it was going to be their last season, and jammed in too much.
As much as I do like certain elements of the show, I think they screwed up making Eclipso the villain of S2. Like how can you get something more dangerous than the literal embodiment of evil.
E12 Spoilers Underneath
Even the Sylvester being Ultra-Humanite twist is underwhelming to me because while interesting, literally every single person had had theories about “Sylvester being evil”..”Sylvester not being himself” to the almost “it’d be way too obious if it was actually a twist” levels

“I Like You”
for @hournites
He seemed like he had something to say, but she didn’t want to push. Everything was changing, all of the time. (She might have to just get used to things changing on her). Beth Chapel loved stability. She loved routine. She loved plans. She loved knowing what to expect, or getting as close to that as knowledgeably possible. But, she could never tell what ideas were at play behind those brown eyes. Sometimes, she thought that she might.
Whenever they made eye contact and they smiled softly at each other. He might accompany it with a small chuckle or twiddle his thumbs. He might bat his beautiful eyelashes a little, maybe turn away, maybe look at her more intently… Any of those things, she never knows exactly what he’s thinking when he looks at her like that.
She knows what she is thinking in those moments. She knows what she’s wondering. Why does he have to look at me like that? Doesn’t he know how weak it makes me? Doesn’t he realize how much I want to be closer to him, to move into his personal space, to reach out and touch him, when he looks at me like that?
“Hey,” she said. Rick looked up from the journal that she had gotten him and there it was. One of those warm smiles. He looked like he was waiting on her to say more, but didn’t he know that she was momentarily speechless because of the way that his eyes seemed to be collecting every single detail they could, from her appearance, into her very soul? She cleared her throat, “Umm… Wanted to check in on you and see how things are going.”
Rick’s eyes lingered a little longer and she basked in this. Beth was never one to be uncomfortable with someone looking at her, especially not Rick, and over time, she actually became not only expectant of having it, but she loved the feeling. “Things are… going,” he said. He set his pen down and began to twiddle those thumbs as he continued to stare back at her. “What about you? You haven’t called with anything since…” He furrowed his eyebrows and looked at his thumbs.
Beth joined him at the table and he returned his attention to her face. “I’ve been trying to give you some space. Honestly, after everything that’s happened, I’d say that you’ve had the worst time of it… Well… I guess Courtney having a demon literally fling himself down her throat is worse, but after that though… your… happenings.”
He shrugged his shoulders, “I’ll be okay.”
“I know, but what about right now?”
“Right now, I’m good.” he shrugged again, this time deeper. “You’re here. That’s always a plus. I thought maybe you were too busy with your new fan club for me.”
“My new…?” She realized that he was chuckling. “You mean my parents. Oh my God! I do love being able to say, “I’ve gotta do hero things,” but honestly… They are doing too much.”
“Too much? For you? No such thing.”
He said it jokingly, but his eyes seemed to convey something else.
That’s it. Whatever he’s thinking and whatever he means, she’s not going to let that deter her. She’s been coming out on top of everything, of everything that she’s had to face lately, and those were all terrifying and horrible things. This was a lovely thing. A sweet, lovely, warm thing and even if he told her not to hold her breath, that couldn’t be any more scary than facing Eclipso and wouldn’t be any more painful than seeing her parents think that she hated them. “I like you,” she said, with a big smile.
For a moment, he looked shocked, then confused. He didn’t know what she meant by that and was likely going to rationalize that it was simply one of Beth’s casually generous facts. “I like you in a ‘liking a boy’ way,” she clarified.
His lip dropped and he stared at her. She blew out a breath of air, set her hands on the table, flat, all business like. “I know that you have a lot going on and don’t have the time to really address something like this, but I’ve been really making my “Most Likely to Succeed” nomination matter this summer and so I wanted to tell you. I. Like. You.”
“I… I like you too.”
“In a ‘liking a girl’ way?” Beth asked, the excitement of already knowing the answer glowing through her smile.
“Maybe even more than that.”
She squealed. “This is quickly becoming the best summer.”
“You… want to go for a ride or something?” he wondered, suddenly much more shy than he’s ever felt before.
“I would love to!”

Okay okay this is my last one 💀💀💀 number 19 to shake things up (thank you for taking the time to write these prompts like I highly recommend to the 10th power)
Hournite + "No...No! I can't lose you."
Warning: heavy angst & description of arson (thanks a LOT 2x08 synopsis).
~.~
Rick didn't even know what he'd done with his car. Parked it somewhere illegally. He flew out of his seat and then rocketed back inside. He forgot his seatbelt. The thick smell of smoke permeated the air before he got there. It terrified him. This was his fault. He shouldn't have left, he shouldn't have been so fucking angry. Rick never should've left Beth alone no matter what she'd told him.
"You don't actually care. If you had, you wouldn't have lied to me. I poured my heart out to you nearly every day but I mean nothing to you. Everyone always lies! You think you're so much better than Mom or Dad because you wear that stupid cape but you're proud and selfish and too full of hate! That's what I realized. I can't believe I ever entertained the idea of wanting you!"
He should've seen it then what had been off, but the purple gleam in her eye was hidden behind the goggles. And it had hurt him so sharply that he didn't want to see her anymore, he didn't want to be near any of them anymore so he had pushed and pushed it away. Until he wasn't anywhere near town and he was alone with himself and the groans of the monster and his own thoughts which ended up crueller than anything Beth had ever said.
Rick reeled back at the heat of the flames. Beth's house blazed before him, bright orange and reds of furious fire. He spun around until he saw Yolanda, Pat and Courtney. "Where is she?"
Pat yanked Rick back from behind the yellow caution line.
"Let me go! Where is she, we have to get her!"
"We can't get in." Courtney gripped onto his sleeve, her eyes full of terrified tears. "Pat says it's too dangerous, the firefighters are going for a rescue."
"But it's Eclipso in her!"
"We know, Rick," Pat said. "But he already corrupted her and all these people are here, we can't interfere."
His chest tightened as his breath grew erratic. That wasn't an excuse. They couldn't just wait and find Beth dead in her own house and not even try. She didn't deserve this, they've saved everyone so far, this wasn't just a random victim of Eclipso's wrath. This was Beth. They needed her. They were supposed to protect her. Rick was supposed to fucking protect her. He loves her. He can't stand and wait. He ripped his arm from Pat and ran into the house.
"Rick!" Yolanda screamed, "You can't survive that heat, it's going to burn!"
Beth was going to burn if he didn't find her.
There wasn't time to bother with the suit, Rick yanked the hourglass upside down and blasted in, ignoring the shouting firefighters and first aid swarming around the lawn.
"Beth!" His lungs filled with smoke immediately, and he coughed, covering his eyes. But he had to be there and he needed to help her. Shards of glass littered the hall from the foyer. Every picture frame shattered to pieces, scorched portraits of the happy Chapel family under his shoes. "Beth!?"
Barreling through walls and doors and plaster, he moved as his muscles ached and screamed and his head went light and foggy but he kept moving, kept searching, until he saw her figure passed out on the floor.
Her eyes were glossed over, purple, arms and legs limp, face-planted against the stairs. He scooped her up as well as the goggles, letting the artifact slide down his elbow. Out through the back, he shielded her as he rammed through the screen door, glass smashing around them all again. Stumbling through the grass of the backyard, he dropped to his knees. Distantly, he saw the glow of Courtney's staff pulsing through the darkened soot covering over her face.
"Beth! No...No, I can't lose you!"
Yolanda put out a fire on his shirt Rick wasn't even aware of. A part of him was throbbing, burning in fiery pain but he couldn't process anything but Beth's blurry body in front of him. He choked on a hysterical sob, forcing her eyelids open so she could look at him. She had to see him. He was here for her now. Rick was here. He was sorry, this was his fault. He was here now, she needed to see that he was here. Eclipso was washed away from her, seared apart by the cosmic staff's light, but Beth wasn't awake, her open eyes still wouldn't focus. It was useless. Rick's power was useless. He saved her from the house and her warped darkness but he couldn't revive her with his strength. What good was he if he couldn't save her when she needed him. His fists drove a cater into the earth as he wept. He didn't need to be strong. He didn't need to be Hourman, he didn't even need to be a hero. Rick just needed Beth to look at him again and not regret ever loving him.

I’ll Always be There For You
Tonights episode was a doozy. BUT!! We got some solid Hournite moments so I’m here with a fic of Beth taking care of Rick after his fight with Artemis, and they have a conversation regarding Rick’s self-sacrifice habits.
Warnings: Mention of injury. Lots of fluff :)
Post 2x06 so if you’re not there yet in the show, there are spoilers ahead!
Tagging @blackfemmecharacterdependency
!! If you want to be tagged for next Tuesday’s Hournite fic feel free to ask :)
.
It’s late at the Pit Stop, but neither Beth nor Rick want to go home. Yolanda is long gone, having to comply with the curfew set by her parents, leaving Beth and Rick alone. So here they are, sitting close as they try to comprehend what’s happened. Things had been going so well, and then Eclipso had escaped, killing Issaac, Cindy, and possibly The Shade too. Rick adjusts in his chair with a grimace, his breathing labored as he struggles with the pain of his broken rib.
“Rick! Are you okay?”
Rick forces a smile onto his face as he turns to Beth,
“I’ll be alright, yeah.”
“Are you sure? There’s not much I can do, broken ribs need to heal on their own but I can double check that everything’s okay, if you want?”
“It’s a broken rib, it’ll heal in time. I’ve had one before, I’ll live.” “You’ve had one before!? Rick, how do you get yourself into these situations?”
“It wasn’t my fault. It was Matt.”
“Oh.”
A moment of silence, and Rick sighs as he sees Beth begin to fidget restlessly. She does that whenever she isn’t sure what to say. He’s pretty sure it’s a habit she’s picked up from him.
“There is something you can help with.” He offers, and Beth immediately perks up, looking his way.
“Really?” “I think there’s a cut on my arm from one of the porcelain shards from my fight with Artemis. Now that the rib pain is starting to settle, my arm is really starting to hurt.” He rolls his left arm as he says it, and Beth gets up immediately, sliding around him to look at his arm.
“Well, roll your sleeve up and I’ll take a look.” She gestures to his injured arm, and he forces back a wince as he rolls up his sleeve.
“Jeez!”
“What? Is it that bad?” Rick cranes his head to see his wound, but stops when it sends a jolt of pain through his cracked ribs. “Well it’s not that good. But you’ll live.” Beth provides a small laugh and Rick is glad that she still has the capacity to joke despite everything they’d witnessed tonight.
Beth walks over to the table and begins organising her first aid kit, grabbing cotton balls, rubbing alcohol and bandages and putting them into a neat stack.
“Doesn’t your costume protect you from injury? How did this happen?” She asks, and Rick sighs, rubbing the back of his neck with his good arm.
“The cape protects me. The costume is just as vulnerable as I would be without it on.” He explains and Beth’s head shoots up, her eyes wide.
“Rick!” Her tone is accusatory.
“What?” “You jumped in front of me when Artemis shot at me. If those arrows didn’t hit your cape, they could’ve killed you!”
“It was worth the risk. I couldn’t let anything happen to you. I’d never forgive myself if something happened and I could’ve saved you.” And that’s the honest truth.
If anything happened to Beth, it would be the end for Rick. He would go off the deep end, let his rage consume him, probably get himself killed doing something stupid. She was the only person he truly trusted, the person who always had his back no matter what. The two of them had a bond like no others on the team, they grounded one another, and kept each other safe and sane. If something were to happen to Beth… Rick can’t even bring himself to think of what he might do to whoever had done it.
“Rick.” He had been so deep in thought that he hadn’t realized Beth had sidled up to him with her medical supplies tucked under her arm. He doesn’t look at her, not sure if his words had been too intimate. This is just like him, to go and say something that ruins a relationship, now things are going to be awkward between him and Beth and-
There’s a soft hand on his cheek, directing him to look at Beth.
“Rick.” She’s got such a deep look of concern on her face and it tugs at his heartstrings to see her so worried for him.
“Yeah?”
“You don’t need to risk yourself for me. I can fend for myself.”
“No, Beth, you can’t. You don’t have strength like me and Yolanda, or a weapon like Court. You have your goggles, and you're brilliant, but on the battlefield I worry that isn’t enough. I worry that it’ll get you hurt one day, and if you get hurt I won’t know what to do with myself.”
Her hand is still resting on his cheek, and as he makes eye contact with her he can see she’s formulating a reply, trying to find words to reassure Rick that she’ll be alright.
“If I get hurt, then you’ll get me to safety. You always do.”
“Beth, we saw Issac and Cindy die tonight. That could’ve been any of us. I can’t get you to safety if you’re… if you...”
“I could say the same about you.” She shakes her head softly and lifts her hand from his face, kneeling to begin cleaning his arm wound.
“That’s different.” Rick huffs, trying not to jerk his arm away when he feels the sting of rubbing alcohol on his cut.
“Really? How?” Beth asks, giving Rick a side glance.
“I’m me. I can take a lot of hits, and if something happens to me? The world keeps turning. I’m more of a nuisance than anything.”
“Rick!”
“It’s true! I have no potential, I’m not going anywhere with my life. You, on the other hand? Beth, you’re destined for great things. Everyone loves you, and you make everyone’s life better. I make everything worse. That’s just who I am.”
“I am going to give you a stern talking to as soon as I finish bandaging your arm. I just need to focus, give me a moment.” Beth huffs, as she begins to wrap Rick’s arm.
Rick can’t help but laugh, but his chuckle causes the pain in his ribs to flare, making him stop abruptly with a grunt.
It’s a while before Beth is done, but as soon as she is she gets up, face determined, and pulls her chair in front of Rick. Then she sits so her knees are touching his, and frowns at him. Rick can’t help but smile a little. She looks so cute when she’s trying to be angry at him.
“Hey! Don’t smile, this is serious business.”
“Right, sorry, no smiling.”
He still smiles just a little.
“Rick, we care about you. You know that right? He shrugs awkwardly, looking at the floor. “Yolanda, Court, Pat, Mike, me, we all care about you. You can’t just keep putting yourself in danger for us saying it’s because you don’t matter, because you do matter! You matter to us!”
A pause, and then she says a little quieter
“You matter to me.”
He looks up at her, and there are tears in her eyes. She’s genuinely concerned for him. Rick doesn’t know how to react. In all his life he cannot recall someone being so worried for his safety. His parents were, once, but his memory of them is so faded that he barely considers it real.
“You matter to me too.” It’s an awkward confession, but Beth provides Rick with a smile, and so Rick smiles back. The pair laugh for a while, until Rick’s ribs flare up again and he has to stop.
“So, do you promise not to recklessly throw yourself into danger anymore?” Beth is back to her stern side, and he sighs.
“Fine. But if you’re in trouble there’s no guarantee.”
“Rick!”
“Hey, I’m just being honest!”
“I appreciate your honesty, but I don’t want you to put yourself in danger because of me.” Beth pokes his knee indignantly.
“But I will. I’m sorry but I will, You’d do the same for me. It’s just the way we are, I think.”
Beth throws her head back with a disgruntled huff.
“I hate that you’re right.”
He smiles at her, and when she moves her head back down to look at him he sees that she’s smiling softly too.
“What are we gonna do with ourselves? We’re a mess.” Beth says with a breathy laugh, as she presses her head into her hands.
“Keep on protecting each other I guess.” That’s the best answer Rick can provide. It’s not perfect, but nothing ever is with him.
“Right.” Beth is looking at him again, and there’s something there. Some sort of tension, and Rick thinks there’s something she wants to say. Whatever it is, Beth leaves it unspoken and pushes her chair back, getting up.
“Well, now that you’re all taken care of I should probably head home. I don’t want to get back too late.” She brushes herself off awkwardly and then starts to pack up her first aid kit.
“Oh, yeah. I’m staying here for the night, but I can give you a ride home, if you want?” Rick offers.
“Can you even drive with broken ribs?”
“Probably. It’s not that far anyway.”
“Alright, but if it hurts too much I can walk.”
Rick nods in agreement, and takes as deep of a breath as he can before he stands, powering through the pain. Then, he and Beth make their way down the stairs to his car. She hops into the passenger seat, and he slides into the driver seat. It’s quiet as he puts the key into the ignition, neither of them quite sure what to say after the deep conversation they’d just had. As the car begins to move, Beth speaks up.
“Thanks, Rick.”
“For giving you a ride? I always do that, you don’t need to thank me every time.”
“For everything. For saving me, for being there for me, and for giving me a ride. And for every other thing you’ve done to keep me together through everything. Just… thanks.”
“Oh. Uh, you're welcome I guess? It’s nothing you wouldn’t have done for me.”
“You always say that, but that’s not the point. The point is, over the last little while you’ve done so much to help me. And I’m grateful for that. You don’t need to compare yourself to me. Just know that I’m grateful.”
“I… Alright.” Rick taps his fingers on the steering wheel awkwardly as they pull down Beth’s street, and then stop in front of her house.
There’s another moment of tense silence that is so common between the unsure teens, and then Beth turns and throws herself at Rick, embracing him in a hug. Rick is startled for a moment, and then the pain in his ribs sets in and he lets out a faint
“Ow. My ribs, Beth.”
“Oh! I’m so sorry! I entirely forgot!” She lets go instantly, and she looks him over frantically.
“It’s okay Beth, I’m fine.” He chuckles, and that eases her worry.
She still checks him over one last time with her goggles just to be sure, and then unbuckles her seatbelt and opens her door.
“I guess if you’re sure you're ok I should get going... Um... goodnight.”
“Goodnight Beth. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow! And if you start coughing up blood, or the pain gets worse, call an Ambulance! Don’t call me, I am not a medical professional. Do call me afterwards though, so I can make sure you’re okay.”
“Okay Beth. I’ll be fine.”
“If you’re sure.”
“I’m sure.”
They share one last Smile, before Beth closes the car door and heads to her house, throwing one last look over her shoulder and waving to Rick. Rick gives her a small wave back, before turning around and driving back to the Pit Stop. After tonight, Rick isn’t sure what the two of them are to each other. There was some sort of admittance, he’s not quite sure how to explain it. It wasn’t a grand confession of love, but it was something. Something has changed between them, and all Rick can do is grip his steering wheel and hope it'll all turn out alright. Somewhere deep inside, beyond his shattered ribs, he knows it’ll turn out alright.

October 2021 Picks
Tumblr media
It’s been a bit, but I’m BACK! Life’s been busy, but I’ve still found time to watch TV (as you can probably tell) and man have there been so GREAT things! I can’t wait to talk about them all.
I know October is still going on, but as I’ve missed September, I thought why not get a head start. So, without further ado, let’s do this!
Some spoilers ahead....
You’ve been warned....
Tumblr media
NANCY DREW-SEASON 3
Is it shocking that I’m starting with Nancy Drew? Maybe, if you’re new to this page. If not, you already know my love for this show. (It runs deep.) The third season started three weeks ago-and airs new episodes on Friday on the CW...Catch up now on the CW app, you’ll be happy you did.
The start to this season is already SO STRONG and has me longing for the next episode. (I just watched last night’s for the second time already.) The cast is so fantastic, and talented. No matter which pairs are on screen it’s fantastic. (Can I say fantastic too many times?) I love every member of this crew so much. This season we are tracking a serial killer, the Frozen Hearts Killer, and keeping our eyes on Temperance Hudson who has recently returned to Horseshoe Bay (and is definitely up to no good). Romances are blossoming. Nick and George are the cutest and feel like parents. Bess has a growing attraction/hate-love relationship with a new character, Addy, and I’m here for it. (Plus, she’s learning magic and I love that for her.) And the Nancy and Ace crumbs are GIVING ME SO MUCH LIFE. (Check out my other blog @lydia-yougowith-stiles for more shipping fangirling moments. There’s many. You’ve been warned.)
I’ve gotten at least three people to watch this show since the summer, and it is my life’s mission to continue to get people to watch it. It is hands down the best show on the CW right now, and one of the least appreciated. Give it some love. I mean just look at this good-looking cast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
STARGIRL-SEASON 2
Okay, so I know I just said that Nancy Drew is the best show on the CW (and I stand by that), but Stargirl is up there as a very close second. It is my favorite superhero show on the network (and I used to LOVE everything about the Arrowverse, and now I watch like none of it).
Season 2 is killing it! Season 1 was really strong and I’ve been planning to re-watch it, and I’m so happy that season 2 is delivering so much. The villain this season is *so good.* Eclipso is so creepy and anytime I see that little kid I want to punch him in the face. He is SOOOOO CREEPY. I’m so frustrated where the new JSA is right now, but that just shows how good the writing is. I literally have no idea how they are going to take him down, but I’m here for it and ready. Losing the Shade last week really hurt, and just adds to my list of people I think the show killed off too soon. (You know how I feel about the Brainwaves-specifically Henry.) That being said, a lot of them get to come back in flashbacks, so hopefully we can see him return in some way. I also really love how this show gets to the point. Barbara being a part of the team makes me so happy as does the progression of revealing secrets. Arrow would have dragged out soooo much.
So, just like I said for Nancy Drew, watch Stargirl on the CW if you aren’t already. You’ll be so much happier that you did.

DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW-SEASON 7
Wow, season 7! That sounds crazy. (I actually had to double check before I posted this.) I figured to stay with this CW train we’re on, so here’s the only Arrowverse show I still watch regularly.
Last season for me was a little rough. I still enjoyed episodes, but I didn’t love it overall. The aliens plot for me felt forced, and Gary being an alien felt like an after thought and way to make the connection stronger. I also felt like we were losing a lot of the legends. The Waverider has always been a revolving door, but for some reason this one felt like so much was changing. So far, this season I am really enjoying it. (I know there have only been what, two episodes so far?) I like how they are stuck in the 1920s, and need to find a way back to the waverider. There feels like a lot more mystery this season (especially with Gideon and her message at the end of 7x02). Can’t wait to see what happens next.
Tumblr media
LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE
Do you remember the old Nickelodeon game show, Legends of the Hidden Temple? Purple Parrots, Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas, Sliver Snakes, Green Monkeys, and Red Jaguars sound familiar? If not, have you ever seen anyone wearing one of these TV shirts at a convention or amusement park? (Guilty.)
Well, if you ever dreamed of being on the 90s Nick competition show, you’re dream might come true as the CW has rebooted it. On Sunday nights journey back to your childhood as adults compete against each other (outside) for $25,000. The games are familiar, but the vibe is definitely different. Olmec feels old, and the legends are no longer PG rated (which I have no problem with, I would probably still not be able to remember them all). I haven’t been getting into it as much as I thought I would. Maybe you’ll enjoy it more.
Tumblr media
GHOSTS
There’s a joke in my house that I don’t remember that CBS is a network. This is because I don’t often watch TV shows on it. Luckily, one of my friends mentioned Ghosts and I’m so happy they did because it’s a lot of fun.
Rose Mciver (iZombie) and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Pitch Perfect) star in this half-hour comedy as a couple who inherit a house after Mciver’s distant aunt dies. She wants to flip it into a bed and breakfast, while Ambudkar wants to sell it. The twist is that the house is home to several ghosts who have died on the property over the years, and live there for the unforeseeable future. They don’t want the couple to open a b&b because then they would be stuck sharing their home with more of the living. When Mciver suffers a fall and wakes up from her coma, she sees the ghosts and is now the barrier between them. It’s really funny and definitely worth the watch. The episodes go really fast and will have you laughing. Highly recommend you check it out.
Tumblr media
THE WALKING DEAD-SEASON 11
After a show is on for ten seasons, plots start to feel repetitive and you question if the show has to still be on. The Walking Dead has lost a lot of its original cast, and there are times where I ask myself the above. However, this season had some really great episodes. I was excited to see more of the cast in one episode compared to last year when the filming was limited to how many people were able to be on set at the same time.
Now with the Whispers gone, we have a lot more problems from the Reapers (who I can’t stand and feel won’t be solved with one season, but has to be), to the Commonwealth (which gives me such ‘The Governor’ vibes. I keep saying that their governor/leader isn’t real-even though they show a picture of her in the upcoming trailer). Plus, there’s the feuding within the group: Negan and Maggie. I did really love how they used the Whispers tacit against the Reapers and that finale was EXPLOSIVE. It’s got me hooked for what’s up next. I also love that Darryl is back with us as is CONNIE!!! Her episode with the feral people gave me nightmares. That’s something I definitely didn’t think I’d see on this show.
Tumblr media
GRANTCHESTER--SEASON 6
Completely shifting gears, because I don’t know how else to jump from the Walking Dead. This month the PBS Masterpiece Mystery, Grantchester, returned with its sixth season. I didn’t realize how much I missed this show. The characters, the town, and all the mysterious drama that comes with it.
There’s already an overarching story, but each episode also brings another mystery with it. I really enjoyed the second episode with the adoption case. It was SO GOOD. My heart aches for Leonard this season. I have no idea how that’s going to go, especially the way the last episode ended. While I liked Sidney, I really like this fresh breath of life the show got with Will. I really enjoy his character, and his dynamic with Geordie. I’m also excited to see the rest of this season. New episodes are on Sundays on PBS. You can catch up for free on Amazon video with a prime account.

THE BABYSITTERS CLUB-SEASON 2
I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH. Give it a season three right now.
This adaptation of Ann M. Martin’s beloved book series, released a second season earlier this month, and I watched it so fast. It was SOOO GOOD. I wish it was longer than eight/half-hour episodes. I was laughing, and crying (both sad and happy tears). The characters are so great and real. The stories are heartwarming and feel good, which feels hard to find sometimes. They continue to update the book series in such innovative and creative ways. I can’t stop smiling as I watch. If you want to feel good look no further. You’ll be happy you did.

SOY LUNA-SEASON 1
Guys! I have made it to episode 62! Are you shocked? I started watching back in June, and hit a lull, but now I am cruising through.
So much has happened, and now Luna and Simon are a thing? It happened fast, but I don’t think it’s going to last long. Matteo is back with Ambar, which is so annoying and I can’t wait until they break up. Nina is having her webcam call with Gaston as Felicity. (I seriously can’t wait until these two discover who Felicity really is.) There are some things (like Ambar’s sneaky annoying stare) that bother me, but overall I’m having a good time. I will just need to take a break before watching season 2.

THE OUTPOST
The Outpost finished last month, and I’m so sad to see it go. I was surprised when a fourth season popped up on my DVR (as I’ve said it before) and while they didn’t know the show was ending for good, it had such a strong ending. I’m so happy to see Talon and Garret together and Talon as Queen. It’s the role she deserves. I loved the addition of Luna this season. The gods freaked me out, but thought they were a good villain. I still don’t think Tobin had to die and miss Gwynn, but wish Falista wasn’t around for so long. Munt became one of my favorite characters as the show continued on. Good for him finding love. Janzo and Wren are everything. I wish we could have met their baby. This was an amazing show. More people should have watched it.
Season 1 and 2 are available with ads on IMDB. Check it out.

So excited to watch the second season! Now I have to remember what happened at the end of season one....

Spoilers for this week’s episode of Stargirl!
(My review’s late because the cable cut out and I didn't get to watch the episode until Wednesday)
Hmmm, didn't see this episode coming: it throws us a huge curveball about the Shade's motivations and changes his origin somewhat.  He appears at Courtney's house at the beginning of the episode, badly wounded from what Eclipso had done to him, and tells everyone that they need to put the black diamond back together to trap Eclipso.  Pat doesn't believe him and blames him for telling Starman decades ago that they had to kill Eclipso's host, but gets shouted down and they eventually re-fuse the diamond with Jennie's Green Lantern ring.  Too late does Beth learn that putting the diamond back together merely empowers the Shade by reconnecting him with the Shadowlands, and it actually summons Eclipso.  Once summoned, Eclipso tosses Jennie against the wall and sends Courtney into the same portal Cindy Burman fell through.
Shade's origin here is also different from the comics.  In the comics, he was a regular businessman who was a little too trusting and got dragged into a terrifying mystical ritual because of his own inherent gullibility.  In the episode, he was a conman who was hired to procure a black diamond for a ritual, and created a fake for those who'd hired him.  He was still dragged into the ritual, but because the diamond was fake the shadow powers entered him instead and made him the Shade.
We also learn that the "Emily" Shade has been talking about is apparently his sister, who he neglected when she needed him and is presumably long dead now.  Or at least, that's what he says when seemingly delirious; we know now that he's a proven liar who was manipulating the family for his own ends, so who knows if any of that is true.  It's possible that Emily was completely made up to get Barbara on his side.  That said, he clearly was severely injured so it's possible he was genuinely delirious and speaking truthfully.  He does look very sad, and he's obviously got a lot to feel guilty for.
Of note: Dr Mid-Nite's files mention the Shade currently lives in Opal City (his adopted home in the comics), and his known aliases are taken straight from the comics as well.  The files also mention his association with Ted Knight, Simon Culp, Captain X, and others, which are all comics references.  Culp was the one who tricked him and tried to kill him in the mystical ritual.
Beth speaks to Dr Mid-Nite again in the Shadowlands, and he believes that the Shade wasn't trying to kill him, and in fact wanted to save him.  Maybe that's true, but I'm a little more suspicious about his motives than previously, so I can't help but wonder if Shade was trying to get him out of the way for some reason.  He clearly wasn't trying to kill him or he'd already be dead, but I'd wonder why he hasn't gotten McNider out yet if his intentions were completely benevolent.  However, maybe there's something he's still trying to protect McNider from.  He did seem genuinely upset about what happened to Rebecca McNider, but perhaps that was all part of the con.  Even so, you'd have to be a monster to shrug off an innocent kid getting horribly killed by an evil entity.
Some other things of note -- we see in the past that Sylvester apologized to Pat for getting him involved in the killing of Bruce Gordon, and was actually nice to him and seemed to care about him for once.  It's long overdue, because I was starting to wonder why Pat liked the guy.  Solomon Grundy reciprocates Rick's kindness by tossing him some apples in his jail cell...although you've got to wonder how he can do that unnoticed.  And we get hints of Todd Rice (Obsidian) and his involvement with Helix, with the head nurse speaking to Mr Bones on the phone.  The nurse is named Louise Love, while the director of Helix in the comics was Benjamin Love.  I get the feeling that we'll be seeing more of Helix next season.
So, a pretty great episode and I'm genuinely surprised that they used the Shade differently than expected.  It's nice to be surprised, even if I like to see comics-accurate stuff in adaptations.  Now I'm not sure what to think about his motives, or what he'll do next.  It's probably in his best interest to fight Eclipso, so he may help out just for purely pragmatic reasons, but I have to admit that I'd like to see him show some genuine altruism and regret for what he's done to the JSA.  And maybe he's even pulling a long con against Eclipso and will turn on him when the demon least expects it, since their powers are linked, after all.  But regardless, I can't wait to see what happens next.

DC's Stargirl 2.13 "Summer School: Chapter Thirteen" has aired on the CW and I'm here to talk about it
Finale time baby!! Finales are always bittersweet. You know it's gonna be fun but how long will it be until the next season? Season three is obviously confirmed and I think has started pre-production? I'm not sure. Maybe.
A previously on intro, how exciting! I don't think we've had one of these before, definitely not in this season. Maybe for season 1's finale. And a new creepy logo. Love the purple.
Y'all I fucking hate Eclipso Kid so much.
Eclipso ripping open a portal to another dimension, love to see it. I also love to see Rick being a little genius! It's cute. I think Mike is going to finally use S.T.R.I.P.E. here in the finale.
I love the Stargirl, Shiv, and Wildcat trio. Such power! Yolanda fighting Ted Grant (kick his ass bestie), Cindy fighting (???) her young self, Pat fighting a younger him too (assumedly specifically the version that let the old JSA go kill Bruce Gordon). I wonder what kind of effect specifically fighting Ted will have on Yo, especially with that little "you kill one person, specifically Brainwave of all people, and you quit" jab. Maybe it'll be the reminder she needs about how Brainwave is someone who kinda needed to die. I've ranted about this before but we don't know if anywhere that can really hold the super-powerful psychic Brainwave exists. We haven't seen an ARGUS or a DEO. They may exist but we haven't seen them, so killing him was the only solution. He was also lowkey trying to commit genocide.
It seems they can see what the other people are fighting so I'm betting this is one of those "we have to fight each others demons" kind of solutions. Like, idk, Cindy has to beat Ted, Yo has to beat young Pat, and Pat has to beat young Cindy (or any combination). We'll come back to this and see. Or maybe Courtney has to beat their illusions and in doing so she embraces her darkness or whatever, and that's how Eclipso gets her.
Surprisingly good advice from Pat's dad. I can be into that phrase.
Or Beth and McNider are going to save them because they can see the illusions aren't real. That works too. Not as fun but whatever.
Courtney & Cindy work so well together holy shit. Another great example of teamwork. I'm not in the camp of people who want Cindy to be redeemed and join the JSA permanently (though I wouldn't really be mad at that) but I definitely wanna see these two team up like this more. A lot of the action has been really stellar this season. And I love how many of the fight scenes in this show overall are long takes. Really showcases the work the choreographer as well as the cast and their stunt doubles put into making these fights work.
Hello and welcome back to Sheep thirsting for Rick Tyler yet again. He's such a fine man.
I love how this mechanic guy (Zeke??) genuinely doesn't give a single fuck about any of this weird shit. Truly iconic behaviour.
Even the way Eclipso moves is creepy! I wasn't sure if they'd be able to pull this guy off in this show but man has it worked! Gets me really hyped to see Eclipso hopefully get brought into the DCEU one day.
I love the upgrades to S.T.R.I.P.E.!! It's so funny watching Eclipso just get punched in the face by a giant fucking robot. Even he responds like "the fuck is this". And finally, Jakeem Thunder!!!
Rick is so hot in his uniform. And he brought Grundy!! And the good thing about Eclipso fighting Grundy is that Eclipso can brutally murder Grundy and it'll be fine! Because Grundy technically can't die. Ope and I wrote that literally right before Eclipso blasted a giant hole in Grundy. Called it I guess. Something I do also predict (but still might not happen) is a reveal that Rick actually does have super strength even without the hourglass because of reasons and this specific event of watching Grundy get murdered is gonna be the final trigger to unlocking it. Maybe not but it'd be fun.
Who is it Barbara?! Who's "you"?! Clearly whoever Cindy called, but who did she call. Artemis? Tigress & Sportsmaster? Those are the only options that make sense in my mind but who knows.
S.T.R.I.P.E. constantly getting taken out, RIP. Curse you budgeting.
I think Courtney saying that she hates Eclipso one time being enough to let him possess her completely is kind of a cop-out on getting more interesting here if I'm being perfectly honest. It'll be fun to watch her try and kill all of her friends but I think we've could've gotten here in a more fun way. I do, however, love the VFX of the Staff but in purple.
Okay so the Shade is here now. Was he "you"? Not surprised he didn't actually die as I did call it back in whatever episode it was, 11? I'm thinking maybe he isn't "you" though. It seems like he only just now materialized. Like, he was brought out through these two portals in the sky.
OH MY GOD SYLVESTER?!?!?! Okay yeah, he's the "you". He's gotta be. BUT HOLY SHIT!!! We haven't seen you since like the fucking premiere, where the fuck have you been all this time?!? If this is who Cindy called, I have so many questions.
Courtney being saved by the power friendship and family! How cute.
Okay so Artemis, Sportsmaster, and Tigress are who Cindy called. Love it. And Sylvester just also showed up, great timing.
Ha, he literally turned into toast! I love Thunderbolts genie rules.
I like how it's now a requirement that the season finale includes a scene of the kids all hanging out injured together.
There we go Court, the best villains are the ones we can learn from.
Oh, spoiler Beth! Beth is also now the only one who has officially had her title passed down to her. Courtney sounds like she will, but currently Beth is the only official one.
Both of Cameron's grandparents have ice powers?? Sounds like he's being set up to finally be a villain in season three.
Hold on, Cindy wants to join the JSA? Okay, that's a twist. But I could see it working. It'd be nice to see more of her. Is Shade also sticking around?? A fun, weird maybe kinda mentor for the JSA next season? That'd be fun!
Is everyone getting a happy ending? Fun! The Crocks are the new next-door neighbours, aren't they?! Fuck yeah, that's gonna be crazy! Sportsmaster and Tigress teaching the JSA new fighting styles, Artemis can join! It's gonna be an awesome time!!
Post credit scene??? Oh, Mr Bones is so gross! But he could be a fun main villain for next season. I know he has a connection with these characters in the comics but I really only know him from his more recent adventures and relationship with the D.E.O. and Kate Kane. Those probably won't be relevant but who knows, maybe we'll get a surprise.
It's always a sad time when a season of your favourite show ends. It's probably gonna be another full year before we get to see them back for season 3. I'm really excited for season 2 to be up on HBO Max so I can rewatch it all in one big sitting. I absolutely love binge-watching. I really hope y'all enjoyed both this season and seeing my thoughts about it every week. The wait for season 3 is going to really suck but I'm really excited to keep up with how production is going. For more Stargirl, Courtney has become Stargirl on HBO Max's Young Justice. How much of her we'll see is anybody's guess but she is there and that has new episodes every Thursday with episode 5 this week.
Until next time.

Even parents need friends
I think Barbara needs an adult friend. It seems like she has never really interacted with anyone her own age; hung out, if you will. I mean, yeah, she talks to people in her office, but that’s hardly the same thing. She had some really nice moments with Jordan, but we know how that went.
Why do I bring this up? I honestly get tired of seeing Barbara scenes with only Pat. It’s like she doesn’t really have a storyline this season. Like, she’s just...there. It’s all very stagnant. I know this show is about Courtney and a young group of superheroes, but it needs more of, like, just adult scenes and everyday issues. That was one of the best parts of Smallville: you had Johnathan and Martha Kent dealing with stuff that didn’t always deal with Clark. If Stargirl is going to have parents be in-the-know with the kids’ antics, there needs to be a bit more branching out.
Moving on.....all that I have stated above is why I have loved Barbara’s scenes with Richard so far. There is such a different dynamic going on. It’s so interesting. Her interactions with him have brought out another side to her. Like, she didn’t hesitate to call him after Mike was kidnapped and stuff was about to go down with Cindy. We were shown that she wouldn’t hesitate to protect those around her, even if it meant going to a questionable source (Martha and Johnathan did the same). It makes the character more dimensional.
Barbara has just always been so level-headed and has always had this calmness when speaking. The only time we’ve seen her more lively was when she found out about Courtney and kicked Pat out. This year, with all the dark material, you’d think we’d see a lot more like it. But we haven’t. The synopsis for two episodes from now suggests that Courtney gets hurt or something. I would LOVE to see her blow up at Pat AND the Shade because she’s had it with Eclipso’s crap and all the danger her family’s been in. I can see it now that Richard approaches her after something happens with Courtney, and she just goes on a tirade because he’s involved with all of this, and he’s the one to talk her off the ledge. They have that potential to be the person for one another. It doesn’t have to be romantic. You need another person to lean on besides your significant other. Richard obviously likes Barbara well enough to help her out of Eclipso’s shenanigans (and now use her first name casually), which she seemed totally relieved to hear him, and I think Barbara might question him about Emily. Adults need friends, too.

Dc Stargirl 2x13
s2 final showing all the other superhero shows THIS HOW YOU DO IT! This show tell a tight story, powerful villian, lots of characters, high stakes, don't undercut anyone, power of love/light, cool fight scenes, great characters, and fantastic final episode👏👏👏
Let the final battle of s2 begun:
Not Beth's parents being trapped by Eclipso 😱 their greatest fears and darkness is their daughter saying she hates them.
Not everyone falling for illusion Eclipso created
Rick has no super strenght I'm worried
Grundy is dead! Damn!
Cindy and Courtney fighting together was epic😆
Okay let one Dr Midnight stay with the hurt people and let the other go out to tell fighters what is real. Come on there is two of them!
Mike finally got to drive S.T.R.I.P.E and he was doing a good job. Not S.T.R.I.P.E shaking his ass😂
The Shade is back and in full sass! I simply love him and love his swagger.
Poor Chuck was like "but I was griving you" and Shade was too busy enjoying the drama of it all😂 Shade faked his death to be dramatic ho. Loving it!
Double dose of Dr. Midnight😭👏😭
Chuck took the time to tell Beth's parents they should be proud😭😭😭 He's a good dude and everything Beth deserves.
When Evil wants you to tell you that you hate something NEVER do it!
Cindy listened to Yolanda. Deep down part of her doesn't really want to kill Courtney after she saved her.
Yes Cindy learned from the light being the answer!!
Starman! Starman beliving in Courtney was the best thing ever! I was worried he might charge in and take over but no he worked with Court.
Artemis got her parents to deal with Eclipso. Smart Girl!
Crusher took the time to say hit to Pat his bestie😂
Artemis got her parents to deal with Eclipso. Smart Girl!
I knew he was gonna turn him into actul toast soon as Jakeem said it 😭
What a ending for Eclipso 👏👏👏 New JSA, old JSA and ISA and old ISA all together. Perfect ending!
Tumblr media
Chuck is leaving I'm so upset. At least he's alive and hopefully can come back or stay in connact with Beth. I'm glad he going to have a son but heartbreaking he lost 10 years with him. What if his wife remarried.
“What happens if the world needs Dr. Mid-Nite again?” “They have one" 🔦 passed!
Everyone but Chuck had plot point returning them in s3. Jennie and Grundy both are hinted to return. Shade, Starman & Crooks are staying. Cindy wants to stay. Court is getting a mentor. Everyone but Beth gets someone to stay. Not fair.
Starman is already a bad influence and undercutting Pat about superheros not needing school. 🤭 I can see how s3 is going play out.
Cindy saying "you got pass so I should get a pass" girl you don't get it. Redemptionis demanded it's earned. Maybe one day you get it will since this was a step in the right dirtection.
I wish Beth's parents sudden attention wasn't framed like "your a superhero which is exciting so now this going have our full attention" and more "we saw you hated us and we realized we could lose you". Hopefully s3 will go into that. Hopefully the excitement is covering some of their pain. They went through thinking someone was wrong with Beth & saw her yelling she hated them and blamed them. Over compensating in reaction makes sense.
Beth's parents are helping her make her suit!
Mr Bones looking awesome!

Going to ask you a happy question re: Stargirl for something fresh to think about (and hopefully less sad). What are you looking forward to the most/want to see in stargirl s2?
Aw, thank you! Love this question 💕
So, with Eclipso in the mix, I’d like the show to explore Courtney, Yolanda, Beth, and Rick’s insecurities and feelings of inadequacy, while taking the time to have the rest of the group uplift one another and remind each other how amazing they are. I think that’d be an emotional and cathartic way to really deepen the friendship between the characters.
More dad!Pat and the new JSA.
I’d like to see more of a leadership role for Yolanda. Also more healing for her, as well. Just lots of support for her, as well. She still has such a journey to go in her own healing, and I want to see that for her. Like Yolanda really coming into her own and taking care of herself and her happiness.
Beth. Just more Beth, this season. I want to see more vulnerable moments from Beth, where she is supported by Rick, Yolanda, and Courtney. Beth is always putting on a brave face for everyone and is always so caring, and I want her to be supported more. More Beth-centric story-lines, in general.
More exploration of Courtney’s abilities. Also further complications to Courtney and Cindy’s dynamic. I don’t want things to simply be an easy road where Cindy ends up everyone’s friend. Like there’s just too much that’s happened, and I prefer the dynamic of Cindy potentially helping the new JSA occasionally, but still being a thorn in their side.
Beth/Rick teases 👀 I want them to be a slow-burn, but not too slow a burn, lol.
I’m really curious about how the show develops Tigress, and I’d like to see some focus on Paula’s relationship with Artemis.
I know they’re introducing a lot of characters/bringing old ones back into the mix. So I’m curious, for example, how Jay Garrick might interact with the new JSA.

what would happen if the nightforce and shadowpact met? Like whod hate or get along with who, what shenanigans would occur? Like what potential dynamics would Occur
Another Long Response, so Under the Cut It Goes! (& apologies if Tunglr fucks up!)
OKAY! so its been a few months since I read Day of Vengeance ofc BUT- iirc, the team by and large got along really well with Lori! I’m sure the Doylist reason for her not joining the team permanently may have been one part her Newness and another part her character being used more sparingly in BoP at around the same time? (I like to think the Watsonian reason tho is Lori deciding “no im evil now >:) hehe” and joining the S6 instead fjdkla i think part of the actual in-universe reason was she was kinda fucked up about the whole thing with eclipso & spectre??? again its been quite sometime since i read it so like. grain of salt on that) ANYWAYS
would LOVE to think that these two teams would crash into one another like this:
Lori revisits the Shadowpact bc Something Something Magic
Lori becomes fast friends with Laura bc Teen Mystics
Laura is introduced to the rest of the NF bc YES! MORE FRIENDS!! HER OWN AGE!!!
Shenanigans Ensue
I did write a snippet abt the Shadowpact Hearing abt Laura hanging out with the NF and i do still Stand by it. BUT... let’s give it just a Smidge More Nuance ye?
From the Shadowpact’s End:
Still Think that Jim would be mainly Distrustful overall of the kids’ intentions but he’d slowly warm up to them as he got to know them! He can’t help his Dad Energy lmao
June would LOVE having more ears to lecture on witchcraft (actually wait..... June leading socratic lessons in witchery with the NF+Laura all together omigod. this is it.. this is exactly what ive been missing fjdkals;a)
Like to think that Rory, Eve, Zauriel & Bobo would be really chill about team-ups & would overall treat the kids the same way that they do Laura, as like, pretty fully formed heroes in their own rights ofc, but still with that Undertone of looking out for them bc They’re Kids
(I really want Danny & Eddie to go back to being like the Spiderverse Peter B & Miles meme, but they’d probably be a lot more like the Spidermen *pointing @ each other* meme when they see each other again ;-; c’est la vie)
From the Night Force’s End:
Already talked abt Eddie a little there, but other than maybe having yknow.. TO TALK with Danny, I like to think that he and Rory would get along rlly well after too :D
Raven would latch onto Eve. I can’t fully articulate why I think so fjdka; just vibe with me on that for a moment
its canon that Traci & Bobo have a Back n Forth fjadkl; not gonna change that ye
Zach & Klarion would get on everyone’s nerves but like... Zach’s doing it by accident bc he’s just Like That, and Klari’s purposefully trying to be a Nuisance bc he’s just Like That
Kinda Almost same with Lori, but she gets a free pass with the Shadowpact bc they consider her their Honorary Daughter (Laura is Fully their Collective Daughter tho. jots these things down!)
I’m waffling on if i wanna include Skye or Amy in this run down bc like...  now I’ve been leaning towards leaving Amy on the YJ team and maybe possibly considering dropping Skye since she’s such a one-off but like... idk. they’re both blank slates as far as Interaction With Others go. I’d say they’d just be Agreeable with most everyone fjdkla;
As far as Specific Shenanigans go, I’d love a general crossover with the teams banding together to defeat a Big Bad™, and then some smaller, one-on-one team-ups here n there? Like little groups mix and matching? You can have some of the adults & kids maybe starting prank wars on each other, or pulling pranks together on other mystics who deserve it (*cough* Nabu and Winters *cough*). again, im still vibing REALLY hard with the idea of June taking all of the kids under her wing, and I do kinda maintain that while the JLD might be most ppl’s First instinct to pair the kids up with respective mentors (I know it was certainly mine)... the Shadowpact feels so much more like a family and esp like a team that they’d WANT to team up with and get to know, yknow?
anyways i think i hit everything? even if the last answer’s kinds vague... actually all of this feels p vague all things considered djkl;afd but also its getting late and i’d really want to like... just straight up write fic abt these two groups hanging out ahhh. talking meta and Potential only goes so far until you want to start like!!! writing it out line by line instead so!!!!! yeah on that note, thanks for coming to my tedtalk \o/

I love that the finale came full circle for Jordan and Yolanda. Jordan getting killed by a truck when that's how he killed Joey and Yolanda being scared to jump off a building and then surviving the jump (off the same building she almost jumped off originally)
i didn’t notice the jordan one tbh but i DID notice the yolanda one !!! i thought it was a really neat way to bring her arc full circle
i think a lot of characters (most if not all) got a really full circle arc in the finale? courtney giving pat the mug (while still calling him pat, but referring to herself as his daughter, which i was really happy about), beth being loved and supported and having friends that finally fuckin listen to her, rick’s forgiveness and sense of self shining through, yolanda’s jump, brainwave dying too; stuff like that.
this being said the finale is definitely not without it’s critiques; where it excelled in emotional depth & comeuppance, the eventual big fight of it all felt shallow; it really did feel too easy. looking at it as meta-medially as possible i think it’s partly because it’s a family show, but holistically, there have been wholly more terrifying & high stakes moments on stargirl than that “big fight” in the isa lair. the fight didn’t feel nearly on the level of starsquad vs tigress n sportsmaster, or even yolanda court hank jr vs isa drones. i get the feeling there’s a couple minutes of that fight we’re not seeing; it felt like too small of a chunk of the episode to be the big battle. on the contrary, as this episode IS a two-parter, looking at it holistically as one episode, it was paced well, and their wins seem more feasible when viewing the episodes as one? everything seemed awful in part one. it really, really looked like starsquad would NOT win. from pat’s horrific beatdown to fleeing to the cabin, the 30 minute mark being the start: things were REALLY grim in that episode, but part two was the win. i think viewing it as it airs actually dampers that experience, because the two episodes which ARE a two parter, don’t meld as well with a week of thoughts in between. while this angle doesn’t excuse part two of it’s faults, it certainly leavens them to a point.
everyone seemed to shine as an individual character rather than as a unit; both jsa and isa alike. neil jackson fucking SMASHED his scene on the roof, holy FUCK. it was so stomach churning to see; the way he clutched barbara, hugged her; i felt SO scared for her. the way amy smart cried but couldn’t pull away in fear of her life; that was GOOD CHARACTERIZATION. the jsa shone as individuals, not as a unit? each of their fights were fairly individualistic, which made them out to be less of a team in a sense; yolanda vs brainwave (also yolanda vs tigress), rick vs solomon grundy (also rick vs sportsmaster), justin vs dragon king (ft. cindy ex machina), pat vs grundy, pat n court vs icicle, court vs cindy. it was very individualistic in most senses; the team didn’t exactly work together. i don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing, it just wasn’t what i was expecting.
i can’t remember the exact lines but there’s that exchange between pat & barb that’s just “so it’s all over?” “yeah thats how it looks” which i think is PRECISE writing; combined w luke’s statement that the isa isn’t truly gone n that the threat is still there, i think a lot more of the isa survived than meets the eye. calls for speculation? yeah. this isn’t a courtroom ur honour
also the last like,, ten minutes of the ep was dedicated PURELY to teasers for season two, which we could have done with like,,, maybe two of those four? (for clarity i think the four are justin’s departure/search for the seven, shade, eclipso, and sylvester) (*edit: also worth noting i think justin’s fit narratively. i think justin’s was necessary!! the other three we could pick & choose from but justin’s departure IS a s2 tease but it’s also essential.) and i would have honestly been happy with just syl and justin? those two specifically would have rounded out the season without making it feel like we were just pushing season two for ten minutes? i’ll be honest i would have preferred eclipso’s name reveal to be next season, shade i’m not too bothered about either way but i don’t think he HAD to have that tease? idk. the pacing of the ep felt weird bc i feel it spent a LOT of time teasing next season and not nearly enough on the final battle sequence; i would have traded those minutes.
this turned into a long essay im sorry but overall yes stargirl good but could have been better

35 “would you be upset if i kissed you?”
Beth was a force to be reckoned with. She knew that a lot sooner than anybody else around her did, and didn't even realize that she was as strong as she ultimately turned out to be. She was doing things that she never imagined and always came out on top.
Her daily words of affirmation, an extensive system of self care, and a small but very close network of friends that she loved like family made her unstoppable. Fearless. The GOAT in recent history...
Then, she would see Rick Tyler. Her main weakness.
They were friends, so she didn't think too deeply into the way he made her feel at first. She was happy to have friends! They were teammates, so it didn't Dawn on her how much he had her back when stakes were high and her fighting skills were low. She was relieved to have survived the battles! They were close, so she overlooked the gazing, the gleam in his eyes when he smiled, and convinced herself that she was overanalyzing the soft touches and tender whispers of support.
She would call him up, "Where are you?" And merely expect an answer. She would compliment him as naturally as she breathed, "Rick has AMAZING super strength." In all those times, she missed something. Granted, she had things going on that kept her attention scattered, but if Rick showed up, her attention found it's resting place.
He had gotten a broken rib in his defense of her.. or maybe he got it afterwards, but in her mind, he went through a lot specifically because of his protective nature. That was when it happened. When she could no longer explain away the feelings. When she thought back on all of the looks, the tone of voice and gentleness he now had with her. The way that they gravitated to one another mentally and physically.
That was when she realized that she liked him, maybe more, and she figured that she probably wanted him too. But, there had been so much going on.
Facing off with Eclipso, Rick's jail stint, her parents' relationship... She had a lot keeping her from going after her heart's desire. She promised herself that when it was over and they were all safe and victorious, she would make a move. They. Were. Now. IN. That. Era.
Rick was at his locker, trading out books. She watched him adjust his hair, apply lip balm, reapply cologne, and then linger on a photo of her in his locker. She smiled, took a deep breath and marched over, telling herself that this was the time. She could do it. Just walk up to him and make her declaration!
"Rick!" She said louder than she planned. He looked up from her photo and smiled. Weakness. Once again. She stared at him, frozen in her place with her smile frozen on her face. He squinted and she stepped even closer, clearly with something important to say.
"Beth, are you okay?" He wondered. He reached out and took one of her hands, which normally would steel her nerves, but today made her feel even more anxious.
"I just.. wanted... To say.. to ask.." she laughed at herself. She's faced the devil and won, but when it came to Rick Tyler, her defense system was non-existent, because usually HE was a defender. But, his face was so concerned, she bit her lip, twisted her face in a most uncomfortable smile and for one of the very few times in her entire existence, timidly asked, "Would you be upset if I kissed you?"
That was NOT what she had planned to say at all. It was on none of the note cards. It wasn't in any of the saved docs. It hadn't been practiced in her mirror or with a hologram of Rick from her goggles. But, when he smiled like Christmas morning, pulled her tense body into his arms and responded with a kiss - all was lost.
She had no clue of where she was or who, for a moment. Only enraptured with his hands gently rested on her waist, his lips, so soft and recently moisturized, and his intoxicating cologne wrapping her in a cloud of sensation.
Her elbows were bent and unmoving, her hands clenched into fists, and she was making sounds that drove Rick wild and only made him kiss her more and harder. Several students had stared, a few began whispering and Rick suddenly became conscious of the fact that they weren't alone. He withdrew his mouth, but kept her in his arms and she made a whining whimper when his mouth left hers.
Immediately, she covered her mouth and giggled uncontrollably. Then she began tracing her lips with her fingertips as Rick collected her with one arm and helped her move forward. She seemed to still be in her.. weakened state. "No," he said. "I wouldn't be upset at all."
Beth smiled brightly at him and snuggled into his side. "Good to know!" She cheered, slowly redeeming her will from his hold. "I've gotta say though... I think when we kiss from now on, it should probably be in private."
He laughed, "I agree. You did not have control of your functions back there." Rick teased, but his eyes were full of the warmth of love that his kiss sent radiating through her body.
"I had not properly prepared myself for that.. I don't know if I COULD prepare for that.. but, privacy will give me more practice!" She smiled and raised her thumbs, unable to shake all of the electric impulses Rick made her feel.
"Mmm. I'm going to be eager to assist you with this."
With her confidence falling comfortably back into place, now that she had addressed her weakness, Beth flirtatiously said, "You never know. I might show you a few things." With that, from the color of his face and his expression, she knew that she had conquered yet another fear and become victorious. She bit her lip for emphasis, and then giggled and shrugged her shoulders.

Will It Wash Me Clean?
Hournite fic: Rick gets a visitor in jail -  2x08
(Part 1/?)
Read on ao3
~.~
One minute, Rick was asleep.
One minute Rick was asleep in the dingy holding cell, the next Beth stood over him, arm outstretched and figure glowing green in the night, activated goggles perched at the top of her head like a translucent halo.
There wasn’t time for Rick to formulate his questions about how or why or where she’d come from. Sweet, intoxicating relief pierced through him like a needle, ran like an aching supplement for adrenaline he’s missing, craving, through his veins. His heart started pumping and his chest expanded and out expelled a breath that got lost in the leather suit of Dr. Mid-Nite’s shoulder-padded arm. Her hands stayed still at her sides as her head turned, calculatingly, already onto their next move as he slumped against her.
Rick didn’t understand. He didn’t need to understand. He’d go with Beth. Rick would go anywhere with her.
“Beth!” her name gasped out his lips. Her sheer presence was enough for Rick to tremble, to break for her solace. For this long-imagined and forbidden embrace. Beth slid her goggles firmly over her eyes just as Rick pushed himself up and got a proper look at her. It had been...It had been days.
There weren’t any attorneys Rick could afford. Not even with Pat and Barbara’s savings. Not with his reputation and disdain in this town. No legal counsel, no salvageable way to untangle Rick from the terrified grief-stricken rambling he shouted at the dispatcher through the phone. The tearful plea at the first aid responders blew into a full-fledged panicked insistence to take him away and to deal him in. That he didn’t mean to kill anyone except for all the ways that he did.
“Rick. Yeah. It’s okay. It’s me. Come. Quickly. Now, while the jail’s still empty. The coast is clear.”
The holding cell creaked wide open behind her, keys jammed stuck in the lock.
“What?” His head whipped back behind him at the solid wall. The one he’d stared at for nearly a week in peril as exhaustion seeped into his bones.
She laughed and gave him a light push. He stumbled along, following her out of the shadowed bars and through a maze of sterile halls, squinting through his blurry vision. “Beth. What are you doing?” He looked back at her as the fresh cold air hit his lungs.
She grabbed his arms, yanking him closer. “I’m breaking you out, silly.”
Their chests collided together. Rather, her head met his shoulders and Rick was so deliriously happy he wanted to kiss her. Rick wanted to more than kiss her. He blinked slowly, dazed through his wet, clumped eyelashes to gaze down at her. The green goggles snapped downcast over his cuffed wrists. Beth reached into a back pocket, olive cape flaring behind in the wind behind the police cruisers. “One second.”
A new set of keys emerged and she freed him. And then there were his hands, free to stretch out and expand. Arms free to spread as he half-spun around in his spot by the lamplight shining on them. Free to tilt his head back and thread his fingers through his dirty hair and drag his palms over his face, holding off a choked sob first, then hiding a smile that grew and grew until he was urgently gripping onto Beth, choking over clumsy laughter for real.
Beth watched Rick break down with mild interest.
“Let me. Let me—” Rick fumbled over his words, over his thoughts. Over everything. What was he even trying to say? Rick couldn’t process the next minute. The next moment. Beth pulled him aside and they walked through forgotten back alleys on a mission to weave through the town without a trace. Without a word.
“Wait!” He hardly caught his breath but his mind cleared enough to know what the buzzing was ebbing through his muscles, warming his face underneath his set jaw. He just wanted to hold her. Look at her. Thank her. “Let me…”
The pads of his thumbs reached below the thick band of Beth’s goggles. She went still, letting him lift the folded material, unclouding her gleaming eyes. Face no longer obscured, Rick gazed on adoringly. He stepped forward and blinked back more tears. It was a lot and too much and not enough all at once when he bumped his forehead down to hers and just absorbed the night between them.
“Beth,” His voice broke altogether. “God. You didn’t have to do this.” The realization set in. “You didn’t have to.” Rick loves her though. He reached for her suede brown gloves for one of her hands. He slipped his hand into hers, felt the curve of her palm through the suit, and attempted to pull the tips off slightly. The gloves weren’t enough. Rick needed something skin to skin.
Her fingers twitched. Then pulled away.
“This is illegal, Rick.”
“I know. I know, and I can’t believe you did something like that for me. I’m not— this could get you in trouble. I’m not worth a risk like that. You didn’t have to get me out of there but...there you were.” Rick’s breath hitched. “Like my angel.” He’d been thinking that since she appeared to him like a glorious fever dream. She was driving him mad. “Beth… please. Let me kiss you.”
“No, Rick,” her soft voice whispered. “Listen to me. I freed you because it was the right thing to do.” She cupped his cheek as he searched her eyes. “But what is there left for you here? You have nowhere to go. You’re too dangerous, Rick. Even before the hourglass. This is a dead-end. Nobody’s come to defend your case. This town can’t handle you.”
Rick squeezed his eyes shut, shutting down. Beth touched him tenderly, soft fabric grazing across his sunken cheeks then carded through his hair that gave him the care he yearned for. He couldn’t tear himself away.
“But what about you?” he asked desperately. It didn't make sense. "What about you, Beth?"
“Me?” Beth took a step back into the shade by an old crooked fence. The goggles sat on the bridge of her nose, green overcast shining harshly on him. “That’s why I’m here. So you can go.”
Rick shuddered through another breath, shielding his eyes.
“You let Grundy free. I’m doing the same for you. We can agree on that, can’t we, Rick? Granting mercy to Monsters like you that don’t deserve it?”
Rick crumpled. Ground hit his knees, freed hands grasping at cruel, empty air after Beth vanished. Wind lifted a young giggle that was never hers.
~,~
“We’ve got a sixteen-year-old detainee currently at the Blue Valley holding center needing medical attention and a psych eval. Yes, ma’am. Looking like PTSD. Over.”
~.~
“Hey! Kid!” The officer shook Rick hard. “Kid! Shit.”
Rick jolted out of the vision. Two uniformed policemen flanked with guards crowded into Rick’s cramped tiny room.
“Stand down,” the officer called out to his partner over his shoulder. “Yeah, he’s stable. He was in a terror trance or something.” He studied Rick. “Need some water?”
Rick couldn’t even manage any words. He nodded, panting, then knocked his head hard against the cement wall of his detention cell. Not again. He ground his teeth and clenched his fists over his buried face, knuckles pressed against the intrusive hallucinations spinning more tricks as tears streamed down from his eyes. Of course, again.
And it would continue to happen over again. As much as Eclipso pleased.
They could lock him in a straight jacket and throw him in a pit, still, Rick couldn’t claw Eclipso out of his damn mind. His shirt clung to clammy, pale skin. There was no relief in the flat jail heat. Horizontal bars were still too sturdy for him to bend. There was no out. No hourglass. No jailbreak. No rescue mission to get Rick out while the JSA mapped out their next plans. No Beth with her arm reached out forward, to both save and break him.
“I’m sorry,” he croaked. He got a water bottle still cold, wet on his palm with condensation.
The officer with Carl on his name tag squatted down low. “Does this happen often?”
Rick glanced away. Since he landed there? Often enough.
“We’re gonna get you help, kid.”
Why were they pretending to be nice to him in jail? Rick squeezed the crinkling plastic bottle as he thirsted, letting it deform in his grip instead of taking a drink. More lights flashed on and one of the officers got him a starchy blanket he didn’t even want. He looked down at the pins and needles in his shackled foot. They’d kept him in one leg cuff. Because he was dangerous.
That part really wasn’t fake.
The vision wasn’t real. What Eclipso dug out of him again. But it was dug out from something real. It was buried there. The stuff he said to Illusion Beth, wanting to run with her. More than that. The way that rush had made him feel. A part of him almost wanted to hide back in Eclipso’s game. Did he even have to fight back? He was too easy for the devil to manipulate, terrorized and broken down, powerless. What left was there to take from him anyway?
Rick was beyond help.

Hope for Better Days
Post 2x09. I figured we didn’t get much Hournite content this EP so I made my own :) This follows Beth going to visit Rick at the jail just before the storm starts after she gets off the phone with Courtney. Just some good ol Angst/Fluff content. Sure Rick is in jail but I can still make him kinda-sorta happy. Ish.
Warnings: N/A
Taglist: @hournites @bethchapelsbonnet
If you’d like to be added to my weekly Hournite fic tag list feel free to ask :) .
“Has Rick called?” Beth finds herself asking as soon as she gets the chance.
Courtney called her to help devise a plan on what to do about Eclipso. It’s a valid mindset, one that Beth is trying very hard to reciprocate but she just can’t. She can’t stop thinking about Rick, alone and cold in his jail cell. The storm that’s hitting today is supposed to be really bad, there might even be a tornado. And sure Beth’s safe at home. So is Courtney, and Yolanda too, but Rick? He’s in a jail cell, which is probably one of the least safe places he could be.
“No, he hasn’t called. Yolanda still hasn’t answered my calls either.” Courtney snaps Beth from her train of thought.
“Oh. Okay.”
Beth isn’t sure what else to say. Courtney seems to ignore her disappointment and continues to prattle on about how to use the staff and the goggles together to beat Eclipso. Beth tries to listen, she really does. What Courtney is saying is important, but Rick keeps flitting across her mind. She can’t help but worry about him. She looks out her window at the storm, wondering how long until it unleashed itself. Would there be enough time to go visit Rick? The police station wasn’t that far, and he should still have his twenty minutes of visitation time, nobody had gone to see him today. Beth could go see him.
“Beth?” Courtney seems to have asked a question that Beth has absolutely not heard.
“Sorry, can you say that again?”
Courtney sighs, but repeats her question; “You said Eclipso presented himself as a child?” “A child version of Bruce Gordon, yeah.”
“Well then it’ll be…”
Courtney’s voice fades into obscurity as Beth spots her Dad’s car pulling into the driveway. He’s home early, this is too perfect. If she can convince him to drive her to go see Rick, then she’ll be good to go. It’s a foolproof plan, probably.
“Sorry Courtney, my dad just got home. I have to go.” Beth manages to get her words in between Courtney’s seemingly endless rambling.
“Oh, yeah of course. I’ll call you later, okay?” There’s a hint of disappointment to Courtney’s voice that makes Beth feel a little bad about the whole situation, but she really has to go see Rick.
“Yeah! For sure!” And with that she hangs up, sliding her phone into her bag.
She’s still wearing her goggles, and spends a moment debating whether it’s safe to take them off or not. She resolves to put them in her bag just in case, not wanting to endure another questioning from her father regarding her wearing her ‘swimming goggles’ everywhere. Then she grabs her bag, pulls on a sweater and races down the stairs to see her Father.
“Dad! You’re home early!” Beth tries to put as much enthusiasm into her voice as possible, and judging on the smile her dad flashes her way her tactics are working.
“Yeah, work was worried about the weather so they sent everyone home early.” He’s already taking off his jacket and hanging it up.
Once he gets his shoes off and sits down on the couch Beth knows he won't be moving. She has to act quickly. She steadies herself, shaking off any worries before she asks to go visit Rick. The worst he can say is no is all she keeps telling herself in a (failing) attempt to keep herself calm.
“So, dad.”
“What is it sweetie?” He’s halfway through unlacing one of his dress shoes.
“I was wondering if we could go visit Rick? You know, before the storm starts. I just want to make sure he’s okay.” She’s rushing her words, but her Dad seems to understand what she says perfectly well as he gets up and looks at her with some concern.
“Beth, it’s about to start raining any minute now. Don’t you think he can wait?”
“His hearing got cancelled today. I just think he could use someone to talk to, you know? The station isn’t that far away, I could walk there if you don’t feel like driving me-”
“Absolutely not. You’ll get soaked. I’ll drive you, but we have to be quick.”
Beth mentally jumps for joy, but she doesn’t vocalize her excitement, just offers her Father a smile.
“Thanks Dad!”
Beth leans against the window as the car rolls down the street, her eyes scanning the dark clouds in the sky as they go. The drive to the police station seems to stretch on forever, especially with her Dad asking questions near-constantly. They’re just around the corner when her Dad asks,
“What is it with you and Rick anyway?”
“What?”
“Sorry, I mean, you two just seem close… You’d tell me if you had a boyfriend right? Your Mother and I would be so happy to hear that you-”
“Dad! No, it’s not like that! We… We're best friends, that’s it. He doesn’t really have anyone else, so I have to be there for him.”
“Oh, yeah. That makes sense.”
The rest of the ride is silent.
Beth doesn’t tell her dad that she wishes her and Rick were more than best friends. It doesn’t feel like the right time to admit it. She doubts there ever will be a right time to admit it, but this would definitely be one of the absolute worst times. Her dad would never shut up about it. Not that that was a bad thing, Beth could talk about Rick and how much she cared about him for hours. But with her Dad? It doesn’t feel right. She continues scanning the clouds and fiddling with one of the straps on her bag while dwelling on thoughts of her relationship to Rick all the way to the police station parking lot.
Rick is slumped in his cell, leaning against the wall as he sits on his cot. This place is hell, but at least he doesn’t have to deal with Matt. That’s an upside. The downside is the fact that he rarely gets to see his friends, especially Beth. Beth. His mind lingers on her name a moment too long, and he has to shake his head in an attempt to dispel any thoughts of her. He’s found it best not to think about her unless she’s visiting him. Every time he does it feels like his soul is ripping in two, a deep ache in his chest that he can’t dispel, so he finds it better to not think about her altogether. As he sits now, staring at the blank ceiling of his cell, Rick hears footsteps approaching down the hall. Probably just a guard going for an hourly checkup. The steps however, stop in front of his cell, and Rick turns his head to see an Officer waiting at the door.
“There’s a visitor here for you Mr. Harris”
Rick cringes at the name, but forces himself not to say anything about it. He’d rather not start any kerfuffle.
“Isn’t there supposed to be a bad storm out there? Why the hell is someone visiting me?” Rick wonders aloud and the Officer shrugs.
“Not my business. I just gotta get you to the phones, the faster the better. I have a break in ten.” The Officer sounds exhausted, and Rick can’t help but feel himself sympathizing.
He really just wishes he could fall asleep, and wake up to find all of this was a dream. It won’t happen of course, but that doesn’t stop him from thinking about it. Sometimes he wonders if all this is one giant illusion done by Eclipso, if he’s still stuck in that hellish landscape. But nobody would visit him if he were still in Eclipso’s hellscape. He’s not sure if it’s reassuring to know he’s not still there, or awful to know he’s actually trapped in jail. It’s a lose-lose situation, really.
When Rick sees Beth waiting on the other side of the glass to see him, his heart does a flip. He spots her Dad standing awkwardly in the corner, and makes a mental note not to say anything too personal, and not to mention the JSA. All inhibitions leave his mind as soon as he sits across from Beth and picks up the phone, however.
“Beth, what are you doing here?” He tries to keep his voice steady but he can't help the relief that he feels encompassing his entire body.
“Visiting you, obviously!” Beth smiles, and Rick swears he’s going to melt on the spot. Nothing but a puddle of love-struck Rick Tyler left on the chair. The Officer would have to mop him up to get him back to his cell.
“I thought there was a storm out there? Shouldn’t you be at home preparing?”
Beth shrugs as if that’s the least of her worries, which it really shouldn’t be, but she doesn’t seem to share that sentiment.
“It hasn’t started yet. I figured I’d come check on you before it got too bad.” As if on cue the police station is shaken by a peel of thunder that makes Rick wince and the lights flicker.
“You don’t need to check on me Beth, I’m doing fine.”
“I don’t care if I don’t need to check on you Rick. I want to. I want to make sure you’re okay, and not freezing, and well fed, and as happy as you can be given the conditions. I just… I just want you to be okay.”
Rick can’t help but smile at this, wishing more than anything to reach through the barrier separating him and Beth so that he could hug her. She’s too kind. Too good for Rick. He doesn’t know what he’s done to deserve her. Frankly, he probably doesn’t deserve her. And yet here she is. Making sure he’s okay.
“Thanks, Beth. I’m doing okay. I’ll be okay. You don’t need to worry about me, I’ll be alright.” This doesn’t seem to reassure Beth at all, but it’s all he can offer.
“You’re in jail, Rick. Of course I’m going to worry about you. There’s not really much else I can do.” Beth looks so serious, so distraught, and Rick hates himself for causing her so much stress.
“I guess you’re right. But try not to worry too much, okay? I don’t want to stress you out. The thought of me stressing you out stresses me out.” He half-laughs, and butterflies fill his stomach as he sees Beth laugh with him.
It’s a small laugh but it’s enough.
“Alright, I’ll try, I promise.” Beth agrees.
The conversation lulls into small talk about Courtney and how she’s doing, and how Yolanda still hasn’t called back. Nothing too consequential, but Rick likes it that way. Makes his life seem more normal if only for a moment. It reminds him of all the days spent with Beth in her living room or in the Pit Stop just rambling about nothing and everything. Enjoying each other’s company, because they had nobody else to talk to. Because they were made to talk to one another. Those are the days Rick misses the most. He just wants to go back in time to tell himself to enjoy those moments more, to take in everything Beth is saying, to tell Beth everything he’s feeling. Because right now it’s looking like he may never get the chance again. He wants more than anything to have that chance again.
The lights flicker once more, and that seems to spook the Officer enough that he puts a hand on Rick’s shoulder, gesturing for him to get up.
“It’s only been ten minutes.” Rick growls, and the Officer taps his watch idly in response.
“Twelve minutes actually. I’m sorry, really, I just want to get you back to your cell before things get worse. It’d be best your friend here goes home too, I don’t think anyone should be driving in this weather. Car accidents kill so many people every year, you wouldn’t believe it!”
Both Rick and Beth wince at that statement, and Beth shoots him a sympathetic look. Rick swallows down any malicious retort, knowing the Officer only has good intentions, deciding to respond with a nod.
“I’ll talk to you as soon as I can.” Beth reassures him as Rick starts preparing to leave, and he smiles at her softly. “Yeah, of course. Get home safely, okay?” “Of course I will. Sit in your cell safely, okay?”
Rick can’t help but laugh at that as he nods, blinking tears from his eyes.
“I always do.”
And then he’s hanging up the phone and being escorted down the hallway. He throws one last glance back at Beth as he goes, but she’s already talking to her Dad, so she doesn’t notice his longing stare as he’s carted away.
The walk back to Rick’s cell is relatively silent. Most of the other cells are empty, save for a few sleeping drunks in some of the holding cells. Blue Valley isn’t particularly known for it’s non-supervillain related crime. It is a small town after all, so Rick’s incident was quite the exception. As they reach his cell, and Rick steps inside, the Officer finally speaks up.
“You know, that girl really must care a lot about you to come all the way out here to see you in this weather. You’ve caught yourself a good one there Mr. Harris.”
Rick gives a breathy laugh as he walks into the cell, sitting down on his cot. “Yeah. Yeah, I know.” And he does. Beth is like no other girl he’s ever met, and for that he will forever be grateful. She’ll always be there for him, and he knows that as long as he’s alive he will always be there for her.
He hopes it will stay that way forever.
And a few blocks away, driving home in the pouring rain, she hopes for the same thing.
