This is going to be long so I can understood if you ignored it just see it as me venting my frustrations with her character. I'm just about done with her which sucks since I use to love her a lot. Sorry for sounding negative in this ask I sent you hope it wasn't a bother.
You've successfully swayed me into becoming a staunch supporter of Chat Noir; how audacious of you! Just kidding, of course. I now grasp your perspective regarding the complexities of Marinette's situation. In the past, I never delved into their dynamic and, admittedly, held some reservations about Chat Noir for frequently causing problems and adding stress to Ladybug's plate, a sentiment that seemed prevalent in the fandom and one I once shared.
Honestly, Season 5 was my breaking point. That episode where she powered down and tried to talk some sense into Gabriel? It made me see her in a whole new light. If it were any other parents, she'd be all action, no chat. But because it's Gabriel, Adrien's dad, there's this glaring bias, and it's been a massive letdown for me. She made her bed, and now she has to lie in it. It's not just Ladybug who's drawing my frustration but also her dedicated supporters. Some, who use Marinette who's age I assume to be around 14 often use her age as a shield. It's strange to witness this phenomenon in the Miraculous fan community, where her character's age is consistently invoked as an excuse. They seem to forget that she's a fictional character, brought to life through pixels and scripted character arcs. I've been a fan in various mediums, but the Miraculous fandom takes the cake for clinging to this age excuse. It's like they think 14 and the stress of her trauma are the ultimate get-out-of-jail-free cards. But hey, what else is new in the world of fandom, right?
Back when I was a ripe old age of 14, I did some growing up, and now at the age of 21, I can confidently say Marinette's actions don't resonate with me at all. I'm all about that honesty, and I can't see myself pulling off any of her shenanigans. I mean, why keep secrets in the first place, especially when you've been partnered up for ages? If we're in the same boat, risking our lives and all, it just seems unfair to leave the other person in the dark when we stumble upon something fishy. That's just basic BFF code, isn't it?
I had some optimism when Season 5 rolled around, but man, it just felt all kinds of wrong. There was something off about it, and Adrien... oh boy, he's like a completely different person from Season 1. I mean, he actually had some color in his skin – talk about a glow-up! He used to look so much happier as Chat Noir. Now, it's like he's tiptoeing around, walking on metaphorical eggshells.
And don't even get me started on the LadyNoir dynamic. It's like a trainwreck in slow motion, and it stinks. I mean, I've watched Totally Spies, and those characters, they had their own stuff going on, but they had each other's backs. It's crystal clear that Miraculous Ladybug is missing that camaraderie.
Her portrayal as a romantic interest, whether in or out of her superhero costume, has been notably lacking. In neither capacity does she appear to be a suitable match for Adrien, and her dynamic with Chat Noir has been fractured to an irreparable extent, leaving much to be desired.
This indeed raises a pertinent question – how can they be considered soulmates or destined for each other when the connection is this lackluster? Adrien seemed to have a more promising dynamic with Kagami than with our primary female protagonist. In Season 5, it appears as though they simply forced them together without genuine chemistry or compatibility. It's all about what he caters to her Marinette the star!
Her performance as a superheroine leaves much to be desired. I find myself questioning her role as the protagonist, particularly given the abundance of problematic situations within the show, many of which are left unaddressed. There's a conspicuous absence of meaningful connections with the victims, with only fleeting interactions following the vanquishing of the villain. The absence of emotional depth is striking. I can't help but wonder why she's the star of the show. There's a disturbing amount of abuse happening, and the lack of follow-up with victims is baffling. It's like they defeat the bad guys and call it a day, no emotional depth, nada.
Upon witnessing her actions in the finale, I reached my breaking point. She ranks as one of the most disappointing female magical heroines when compared to Bloom, Luz, and Iris from Lolirock. Her treatment of her partner left me deeply disheartened, and I remain uncertain about what her fans could possibly rescue to redeem her character.
Thank you for reading~
Feel free to vent, anon, it's never a bother!
I'm glad my points resonated with you! I'm not posting all this to try to change anyone's mind, but it is nice to see that people are considering what I have to say.
And I agree with a lot of what you have to say! I will say, though, that I don't really think Marinette is to blame all that much for Gabriel winning. It's not her fault that he stabbed her in the back. She gave him a chance and he ruined it, and that's all on him. And one more thing I sort of disagree with is that Ladybug doesn't form meaningful connections with the victims. I think it's rather unfair to expect her to form deep emotional connections with every single person she saves. Both Ladybug and Chat Noir do spend some time comforting the victims after the fights, but I think they can't be expected to stick around and solve every problem. I hope this doesn't seem rude, it's just my take.
But I agree largely with everything else! I especially like this point:
This is so right. Like, Marinette is a 14-year-old, but that isn't really an excuse? It's an explanation and a valid one, certainly, but it's not an excuse. At any rate, it's not the fact that she's making mistakes that's the problem, it's the fact that she never seems to learn from them. I admit this is a writing issue and Marinette is, at the end of the day, the mouthpiece for the writers, but it does not help me connect with her like I used to. Using her age as a constant excuse does not fly after a certain point of time.
At the end of the day, whatever Marinette does is portrayed as the right thing to do, and it makes it more obvious than ever that she's not a real approximation of a 14-year-old. She's a character in a children's cartoon who serves as the writers' mouthpiece, and whatever is coming from the writers' is some weird ass shit.
And I also very much agree with your assessment of the Ladynoir dynamic. It really sucks how low it's fallen. It was a major draw of the show for me, and now it's been reduced to nothing, all to prop up the least interesting side of the square. It's too bad.
Thank you for your ask!

I'm not going to lie but the whole Ladybug is a huge mess, I can't deal with Mari...Her friends are honestly to stupid to realize that she WANTS to forget about Adrien but I feel like thet are forcing her to like him. Idk..I guess I'm fed up with the series thst I can't stand it anymore...It makes me sad really.
Only more the reason why I quit the show, anon. I cannot and will not stand for mistreatment of Mari. I'm actually SUPER CLOSE to rewriting ML to fit my own canon & standards. One where Adrien will actually face consequences for his actions, because it's downright ridiculous that he can get away with absolutely everything, whereas Marinette faces all the backlash & consequences as if she doesn't already go through enough! Marinette has too many responsibilities! LET THE POOR GIRL BE HAPPY FOR ONCE, DAMN IT! So yeah... I hate canon and I can't even be bothered to follow along with it anymore. Luka & Kagami supporting Adrienette? Eww... No! THAT'S THE LAST THING SHE NEEDS! Those two can't possibly be this dumb! Kagami broke up with Adrien for a reason, so why would she push Mari forward to get with her ex? She would be so much smarter than that. And Luka? >_> I love this boy to bits and pieces, but please... he's also so much smarter than this. He needs to protect the girl he loves and see that Mari clearly is uncomfortable with "Adrienette". He's made her feel safe for so long, that she needs that safe space again... Away from Adrien, and just with him. Also what’s with the whole Kagami & Lila suddenly being bffs thing that I heard about? Umm... No. I do not approve of that. I know I'm extremely biased and I will NOT apologize for it. I do plan to bring back some ML content soon, but I won't make promises as to when.

Marinette knew nothing about Lila when she first showed up. She was worried that Adrien would be impressed by all the stuff Lila claimed she's done that they'd get together or something. Like, Adrien is allowed to make friends dude. Even if he did end up dating Lila, I don't see how (at that point, before she was outed as a liar) that's Marinette's issue other than she'd be heartbroken. I'm under the impression that if she didn't stalk Lila and Adrien to the library and listen in on their conversation then she'd still think Lila a threat but for an entirely different reason (aka her then non-existent love life w/ Adrien) .
Actually, if Lila was in the same role as Kagami (only a threat because Marinette considers them as a romantic rival), Marinette might also have done something to Lila like she how she teamed up with Chloé to humiliate Kagami.
I do argue that Marinette had some reason to be suspicious, given that one of the first things she hears about Lila is that Lila told Alya that she's "Ladybug's bff".
But she did go far overboard in assuming that everything Lila says is a lie when even post-Volpina she's only caught Lila in two interconnected lies.

Maybe I should yell in a comment on the fic itself but I’m yelling here instead: this entire chapter was sooooo GOOD. Nino being hurt about Alya keeping Senti!Adrien a secret? Zoé not trusting her sister to take the snake despite how Chloé is the one who took it from Monarch and gave it to Luka in the first place (which btw does Zoé know/guess this since she’s blaming Chloé for getting Luka wrapped up)?? Poor Luka just bleeding out on the carpet???
Interesting as well to learn that Marinette didn’t fill Alya in on Adrien being Chat Noir, but she’s clearly started pulling away since around that time. Was it that specifically that sent her into lockdown mode or something else? Will it be Vesperia from now on or Queen B? Who will be the one to decide, Ladybug? Also wth is going on with Félix and Kagami, are they on their way too or are they currently duking it out with Lila as well?
Ahhhhhh I’ve got so many questions and I know they’ll be answered but I’m so invested! This chapter really was a great downbeat while still keeping the tension/stakes high. Also a bit nervous to see how Mari reacts to Alya having revealed her identity to Nino but in Alya’s defense she needs a support system too. Heavy secrets are hard to bear on *all* parties who know, and it is extremely beneficial to have someone to confide in. Especially when your BFF is totally stonewalling you while trying to enact her one-woman-rampage lmao.
Anyways fantastic chapter fr and also kudos to LB’s clever idea in the one before to try and cast her charm on Chatdrien to keep his amok from controlling him. Also very clever to have it fail do to his loss on control of his own powers. Nice job outdoing what could’ve been seen as a Deus Ex Machina. 👏🏾
thank you nikki i enjoy your enjoyment lol. nino was indeed butthurt about being kept out of the loop, but mostly about not being trusted enough to keep alya's secrets. and i absolutely loved giving zoe her pissed!vesperia scene because honestly she's earned that. and yeah she does know chloe gave it to luka - they're all pretty much up to speed on everything everyone else has done.
it's not exactly that marinette went into lockdown mode; she's not intentionally keeping it a secret that adrien was cn/is cw. rather, she's got tunnel vision on him and hasn't thought about anything else besides getting him back. but yeah, it was the reveal that sent her spiraling lol. he's literally the only thing she's thinking about rn!
you'll get the answers to the rest soon enough ;)) thank you so much for the compliments on my narrative strategies lol. i was worried it would be too much of a downbeat so i emphasized the conflict between the half re-formed hero team. they're getting their power back, but it's not quite the triumphant return it should be!
also, fun fact you might like to know - the charm lb tries to cast on cn in this chapter is an idea ripped from my other fic, what makes a monster! odnlb is kind of an au of that one lol, so you'll see a lot of the same themes/plot devices i recycled into this one >:3

I am loving your Miraculous lesbian headcanons! Tbh (while I've HCed Alya as bi/pan myself) I've always read Alya and Nino as a clear case of wlw and mlm solidarity (maybe they're romantically into each other on some level or maybe they're not, idc, but they're each DEFINITELY into their bestie, and you just know they've talked about how cute their BFF is to each other before, lol) And ofc Chloe and Kagami are both so gay (esp for Marinette) that you can see it from space
Aw thank you!! I'm so glad you've been enjoying them :)
I could totally see Alya possibly being bi or pan, too! No matter what, she definitely strikes me as being fruity in some sort of way lol
And I'm definitely glad so much of the fandom also realizes how obviously gay Kagami and Chloe come off. I feel like there are way too many signs, but they try to hide it a bit by showing them "crushing on Adrien."

same anon as earlier hi! something else i think is interesting is how mlb as a show views sacrifice and selfishness.
adrien agreste is incredibly selfless to harming degrees. getting killed as a hero. getting pushed around as a civilian. everything around what's best for him is decided by someone else. he has very few moments in the actual show where he's allowed to make the snap decision to be anything other than a self sacrificing doll. and this leads to harm of people other than him, too, like with how he decided to deal with lila. compared with marinette, who, time and time again has made selfish decisions that lead to harm in more direct ways.
but the thing is that neither of these traits are shown to be inherently bad by the show, which is SO fucking rare. marinette sacrifices more as a civilian, adrien sacrifices more as a hero. and they both have an excess of (respectively) selfishness and selflessness. THATS treated as wrong. its incredibly refreshing to see some kind of media that says "thinking only about yourself is wrong, but thinking only about others is wrong, too."
anyways i think a lot about the themes of balance in the show, creation and destruction are central but arent the only way that the show uses balance to compare and contrast characters and situations
sorry for rambling lol ! >u<
do not ever be sorry for rambling i love it. and god youre so right. like adrien is so self sacrificial and doesnt seem to care abt himself as much as he should- like my man has essentially killed himself (as chat noir) in front of ladybug multiple times to save her without understanding why that might be super upsetting for her. i think part of that comes from his insecurities abt not being needed or necessary which- to be fair. the ladybug miraculous is fundamentally necessary to defeat akumas. but weve seen time and time again that she cant defeat them without chat noir. like when he was cat walker and she couldnt figure out what to do with her lucky charm bc she needed the real chat noir. and adrien gave up his miraculous bc he didnt feel it was necessary and he thought she'd work better with someone else and. agghhhh it makes me so insane. hes always compromising and sacrificing and giving things for others and like . man its just so SAD. & im hoping he'll like. figure out his self worth anf that thinking abt himself is okay actually in later seasons but with the way kids shows work hes probably like. metatextually doomed to that pattern of behaviour for at least several more seasons if not forever<3
and marinette i feel tends to do more selfish things when shes emotional and not thinking thru her actions, & then realizes her mistakes and has to fix them later, but when shes thinking thru what she does before she does it shes also very selfless (but not to the worrying extent that adrien is). like all the times where shes making insane plans to try to stop chloe/lila/kagami in the earlier seasons/whoever from talking to adrien, or when tikki has to stop her from using being ladybug for personal reasons, giving adrien the snake miraculous (and accidentally locking him in a 5 minute long time loop for months tho she couldnt have known he was fucking crazyinsane in love with her lol) when luka was the one who needed to use it, all the times shes tried to expose lila.. its all in this like. rush of emotion and when she stops to go Hey. what if i actually did not do that . shes able to realize her mistakes and fix them and learn from them (until she also is doomed to repeat this forever due to being trapped in a kids cartoon lol)
though she also does show a similar tendency to adrien when she tries to take on being guardian and handing out miraculouses etc on her own when she is FOURTEEN YEARS OLD(!!!!!!!!!) and has geometry homework to worry about. bestie . bff. girlie. u do not have to do this alone !!!!!! u literally have a partner to help u please learn to accept help u r not burdening people u r not endangering them i prommy

Edna Mode was a renowned designer, famed for her harsh but accurate critiques, her fierce and practical lines, and of course, being the designer of the majority of superheroes.
And now she was hosting a fashionista gala, inviting those worthy of a Mode gala. As for those asking for an invite, Edna just asks who they are and calls security.
Lila, as the self-proclaimed BFF of Ladybug, and Gabriel’s muse, had already boasted of receiving the glamorous invitation. It didn’t just come in an envelope, it came out of the sky in a rosewood chest, accompanied by a bottle of wine and canapés. (Or so she says. Adrien and Marinette rolled their eyes. Chloé wasn’t paying attention)
Alya: Girl, I’m so jealous. But hey, maybe this will be a good thing. After all, Adrien is going with Kagami. Chloe will just stick with her mom. That means it’s a chance for you and Marinette to know each other better.
Oh yeah, did I mention that everyone knows Marinette is MDC?
Lila forced a grin but didn’t want to make any promises.
Imagine Lila’s rage to know she wasn’t given an invite because she was just a model. Adrien was the heir to a fashion company. She was not.
With all the bragging Lila did, she can’t back out or Chloe and Marinette will call out her absence. (Chloé learned about Lila being a guest from Sabrina later from gossiping)
So, she stole Marinette’s invitation. She did some editing and made her own customised invite, brandishing it for her class to see.
Marinette saw her invitation missing, rolled her eyes and reported the theft to Edna. Plz, everyone knows Edna invited her. She didn’t really need a piece of expensive paper.
The day of the gala arrived, and Lila brought out her invite.
The guard looked at his clipboard. “You’re not on the list.”
Lila: No, but I do have an invite. Obviously someone must have made a mistake with your list.
The guard snorted. “If that’s the case, then your fingerprints and eye scans should have already been registered. That’s what opens the doors.“
Tumblr media
Lila gulped and thought about sneaking in with the next guest. But no such luck. Security made sure one person entered at a time.
As the security guard moved to push Lila back into the crowd of fans, Lila cried out that she knows Ladybug and Gabriel.
Guard: what’s your point?
Lila: You’ll be fired for this!
Guard: Yeah, yeah. I’ve heard this all before.
Another guard just scoffed. “You’re only a model. One of many in the industry. Miss Mode doesn’t care for models.”
Lila: what are models if not the face of fashion?
“Spoiled, stupid little stick figures with poofy lips who think only of themselves” Edna herself was at the entrance, wondering what was causing the disruption in her guest entrance flow.
Lila: How can you say that? Then why would Ladybug be my Best Friend?
Edna: the day Ladybug says she is your Best Friend is the day I wear crocs. And I don’t mean crocodile leather.
Edna points at a random guard. “You, get this so-called model out of the way. She is blocking the queue.
Oh by the way, Edna calling out Lila was caught on camera by the reporters.
One of them questioned why she was kicking out Gabriel’s muse when his son, a supermodel himself, was invited.
Edna: I did not invite the boy because of his face. I invited him because I saw potential (basically she realized he was Chat Noir. She would never invite Adrien otherwise. As seen from her quote, she doesn’t have a high opinion of models) That is, if he ever gets out of his father’s shadow. Because, let’s face it darling, what can Adrien do besides look pretty and play with swords and piano? You would think the boy would be in part of business meetings, but no. At this rate, Gabriel needs this gala to get out of that stuffy house. Realize that maybe his parenting methods are flawed compared to some other talented figures here. Look at Miss Kagami, focused on upholding her family legacy of fencing. MDC already knows how to run her own business after learning a bit from her parents. Even Audrey’s daughter has been joining in on becoming a fashion critic and throwing parties for political parties. But I must go, my guests await.
Back inside the party, guests were avoiding a seething Gabriel’s eyes. He had come to scout out the superhero guests, only to be called out by Edna on live tv.
Marinette went up to Edna and asked one of her fashion idols why she burned the Agrestes in public.
Edna: do you think Gabriel would change his parenting ways if we did not expose them to the influential figures of this industry, as well as the public eye? I guarantee you Adrien will be allowed more freedom of choice, lest Gabriel wants his son to be known as a coddled boy who can’t even make his own decisions.
Edna didn’t bother softening her sharp voice as she says these words.
Adrien flushed.
Quickly changing the subject, Marinette asked why Edna hated models.
Edna: it’s not that I hate them personally. I just hate their jobs and what they represent. Models nowadays are beautiful only according to the world standards. People who see them want to be like them, never mind that the models they see on the screen are airbrushed to unrealistic and impossible perfection. Now models focus only on their own appearance, trying to maintain their beauty as time ages them. They go on diets and become superficial. Whereas outside the modelling industry or such like, you don’t need to be stereotypically beautiful to be worthy. Where your worth is measured in kindness and bravery and talent and intelligence and anything beyond superficiality.
Adrien overheard and he frowned, not liking the idea where his appearance on ads is not exactly right. He only joined the company to make his father happy. But maybe it’s time he stepped into the business side of things and exit the modelling world. Bonus: no more Lila!
Edna snorted, “Though I must admit Gabriel surprised me with his newest model. Her attitude is lousy but she doesn’t strike me as a model. She just doesn’t have that model walk. But enough about the old man, my dear MDC, let’s talk about you. I love your gender-neutral line. And was wondering if you would like to join me in creating my next line of clothes for the Incredibles. A rare opportunity but I like style. Now take this offer before I change my mind.”
Marinette: wait, do I have to fly over or-
Edna: you are too excited, darling, but don’t worry, my assistants will send you the details.
Why are the Incredibles getting a new look? The kids are growing up and Edna wanted to move on to new styles.
As Marinette was flabbergasted, Audrey congratulated her for landing the job. Kagami and Adrien also beamed at her good fortune.
Even the Incredibles admitted they looked forward to working with her. Violet was a big fan.
Gabriel was seething and thought about akumatizing himself but come on, one villain against a room of superheroes? No thanks.
Drinking a glass of wine, he eventually admits that Edna had a point, however loudly and rudely it had been announced.
He would not be around forever and he wanted to leave the company in Adrien’s hands. In order for that to happen, his son needs to know business (if he can’t design, he can hire designers)
And yes, Lila was a lousy model. She survived by shooting with professional models who managed to overpower her mediocre work. But a deal was a deal. Besides, her contract was only for a year.
After the gala, Adrien happily quit modelling (aka Lila) to spend more time with his father, learning about how to run a company.
Marinette and Edna proudly claimed credit for the fashionable Incredibles.
Violet also became the talk of the school for her MDC exclusives.
Lila had been humiliated on air. Alya hesitated but finally did her research. At the end, she collapsed over the ruined credibility of her blog. But she can still get revenge by informing the principal, Ms Bustier and Mrs Rossi what Lila lied about. The perks of being a class vice president for a busy class president is that she also has the contacts list for emergencies.
Considering how Lila framed Marinette, there would be no suspension or detention. Only expulsion. Good luck finding a new school when Edna’s gala was a global topic.
When Lila returned to school for her last week (it takes time to gather evidence and get the attention of busy adults), nobody wanted to talk to her or even exchange glances. She quietly kept to herself, hoping for this to blow over soon. She was still a model working for Gabriel. She could befriend other supermodels (as if. Like they would want to befriend her after Edna called her out)
Hell, even her jobs were down. Gabriel just told her to take test shoots to fill up her portfolio until the hype died down (aka her contract expired)
When Lila was expelled, she was ready to be akumatized into Chameleon again. Except one problem. Everyone avoided her like hell so how could she kiss her target. Even Adrien was told to stay away lest his reputation be tarnished.
Ok, I admit it. I was hit by “I’m no Angel” quotes as I wrote this. But seriously, does anyone feel weird at the idea of trying to become thinner when your weight is just right, all the while you know there are people out there even thinner than you are and are starving, not because they want to be stereotypically thin, but because they cannot afford food?

I've had this discussion before with friends, but I wanted to delve into it more. In a meta mood today I guess, but I've been thinking while watching s4 (well, I've thought it for a while but it's glaringly obvious in s4), but ML has a huge pacing problem.
I know that s1 was more or less a pilot season. It introduced the concept and dynamics of the show, and they weren't exactly sure if it would get its feet off the ground yet, but seasons 2-4 so far have just had a lot of pacing issues.
And I'm going to preface this by saying that everyone who can't understand the difference between critical discussion and salt, feel free to leave. I don't care if you think the show is perfect the way it is. Go do that somewhere else. People can and should be able to look at the media they consume critically. It doesn't mean it's bad or that they hate it. They just fundamentally understand that it is flawed, and enjoy discussing the plot and its flaws on a deeper level. Refusing to see flaws where they exist isn't the positive power move you think it is.
Anyway, back to the pacing issues.
S2 and s3 had barely any plot. The plot we did get was trickled in. Crumbs. Now we got to s4 and Thomas has declared that every episode will have Chat Blanc levels of bombshells dropped as if that's a good thing. Don't get me wrong, s4 has been better than prior seasons, but I still leave every episode feeling like they rushed to cram in too much.
We all know how I feel about the love rivals, and setting aside personal feelings, the rivals from a writing standpoint were not necessary. At least not functioning as love rivals. Introduce Luka and Kagami, sure, but from a storytelling standpoint the purpose they served in s2 and 3 was just to be a cheap distraction. And they didn't have to be.
The big draw of this show is the love square and its subversion of the love triangle. Now people argue that it's realistic to explore other options before getting together, and while that might be true of real life, that isn't in line with the genre/style of this show. It wasn't a needed lesson, so to speak. They drew us in with the promise to subvert a specific trope in an interesting way, then immediately dragged out that very trope. And not even for any big reason. They just needed an excuse to keep the endgame ship split. And as we can see with how swiftly they dropped the rivals when they were no longer "necessary" as distractions, the writers were always using them as an excuse not to put the square together earlier. They knew the square's chemistry was too good and fans were going to be foaming at the mouth by s3 if they didn't do something. Then the second they have another excuse for the square not to get together, boom. Dropped the rivals.
You felt cheated because it was a cheap tactic, and honestly, it was so avoidable if they had just paced things better.
Honestly, I feel like Alya should have found out in s3. Granted, in order to do that they would have had to changed a lot. So this is what I personally (you are welcome to your opinions elsewhere if you disagree or enjoy canon the way it is) feel would have helped fix this pacing problem:
S1 was a bit unavoidable, and it works for what is is: a market tester.
S2 should have focused more extensively on the lore and Marinette's guardian training. We should have been introduced to Mayura earlier. They should have spent more time expanding Master Fu's story and the order's backstory. They could have created tension with the girls/Alya/Marinette's relationships by having her constantly sneaking around to either fight bad guys or train as a guardian which begins to harbor Alya's suspicion. They very well could have moved Master Fu passing his role onto Marinette to the s2 finale if they were more efficient with their time, leading into s3.
S3 could have had Alya finding out. Marinette becomes too overwhelmed with her new duties as guardian and being Ladybug just as she is in s4. S3 could have been her exploring her new role with her bff by her side for support while they begin to build up the Agreste plot more.
S4 then would have been free to expand the Agreste plot without having to crowd in so many other plotlines. Everything would have room to breathe. Marinette would have been busy enough in prior seasons to justify not dating anyone.
What the rivals effectively did was waste time that could have been utilized to develop the plot further in other areas. I get some people like them, but from an objective storytelling perspective, they were filler. When you write a story, like an honest to God professional story, everything has to serve a greater purpose for the plot and move it forward, and if you are experiencing pacing issues or a plot line isn't working, you have to make the executive decision to cut it or change it. I get that time constraints are a thing in TV. Executive meddling happens. Deadlines are tight, which doesn't always leave room for this kind of long game thinking. I also get that this is (I believe) the first time Thomas has been a head writer. Mistakes are bound to happen. It's how you learn and get better. I get that.
This post is more just me speculating what would have made things work better. For me. So backspace over your butthurt comments. Your precious canon is still untouched. I promise. This is just my opinion, shared on my own blog (and not even tagged). Go make your own meta post.
But that being said, I enjoy s4, but it still doesn't quite sit right with me because they are putting too many eggs in their basket now in an attempt to be epic and up the stakes, but in reality, it just leaves the show feeling really unbalanced. To me.
If you like ML the way it is, great. Go enjoy it, scamp. I wouldn't be here if I didn't glean some enjoyment from it too. I just like to think about things sometimes. And that's perfectly okay.

That is an interesting question.
Ive seen that comment before. another popular one was.
"If Adrien wasn't there, Luka and Marinette would have worked out."
I don't think there was a 'Right time' for them. Not just because Lovesquare supremacy or whatever. In the series prior there was no time that Marinette and Luka would have been together that would have worked out, even if Luka knew her secret identity.
and as for the
"If Adrien wasn't there, Luka and Marinette would have worked out."
I actually have a different theory.
"Marinette and Luka would never have become a couple without Adrien."
A bold statement I know, but lets look at the facts.
Her first interaction with Luka was captain hard rock. At the beginning of that episode Marinette was bummed about Adrien not being there. She meets Luka thinks he's is cute and a bunch of people are saying she loves him making her question her compass. This plays more into pier pressure (catch the pun there?) and I remember as a teen that people push us and others into situations. If you got your best friend saying you like someone, you trust your BFF, so of course you would start thinking about it even a little.
Now next time we see Luka interact with Marinette is in frozer. And its almost like he doesn't exist at ALL on her radar until this moment. Marinette goes to Luka after Adrien asked her for advice with Kagami. Pushing Marinette closer to Luka in that instant. This allowed for Luka to put himself in a better light in front of Marinette, who was feeling down and was starting to think about letting her crush on Adrien go. This was the time she started seeing Luka as an option, (without every character shoving it down her throat.)
Next moment canonically is desperada. Which I don't really need to say much cause as soon as Adrien is on the ship, Luka may as well have been a cardboard cut out to marinette. But it wasn't until Kagami pushed a bit more (as she was pursuing Adrien) that we start see Marinette be more active in hanging out with Luka.
Silencer is the first time we don't have Adrien involved at all, and Marinette's interactions with Luka mirrored interactions she has had with Adrien. Albeit the plushy crush antics. Plus Luka also confessed here. Luka got to know marinette more because of those pushes to the point where Luka started seeing marinette as someone to be romantically interested in.
Then there was Felix where they made that video for Adrien to cheer him up because it was the anniversary of his mom's disappearance where Luka ASSURES marinette that if things don't work out with Adrien, he would be there. Essentially saying, 'Im here as a rebound'
After this I think the next interaction we have with Luka and Marinette is Loveater, where he gives her a lift to that wedding anniversary party. And then after that he comforts her after she has a breakdown (over a lot of things, one of which did involve Adrien and Kagami being together). And the last interaction of season 3 being her finally listening to the song he wrote for her, which was her way of moving on from Adrien.
(I'd mention the NY special but really did not help Marinette and Luka's dynamic. and its canon inclusion is debated. so lets just put that on the side)
And then Truth happens where they break up 'Because of the ladybug secret.' which had nothing to do with Adrien. (but Adrien was still in Marinette's head based on the pictures on her wall, that doesn't relate to the break up, I just want to point out that Luka saw this and like didn't even complain about it. dude wasn't even like bitter. I think he knows that Adrien is the reason him and Marinette are even together.)
If you cut Adrien from all of these situations, Marinette may have seen Luka as a cute guy, but she had no urgency to spend time with him in most situations. She probably wouldn't have even been looking for love. Or she probably would have fallen for chat noir (who is still Adrien, but for the sake of the case she doesn't know that). Because before chat blanc there was a LOT of opportunities for it to happen, and Marinette herself even admitted if Adrien wasn't in the picture she would have gone for him.
Luka was the safest bet to help her move on without the world ending.
Without Adrien, Luka and Marinette wouldn't have had those pivotal moments (Frozer, Desperada, Felix) where she sees Luka in a different light and goes to hang out with him actively. And Luka probably wouldn't have gotten to know marinette without marinette being more direct. Luka is pretty passive, just look at how he assures marinette he will be there if things don't work out with Adrien. Most guys that know the girl they are interested in is into someone else usually have a 'try to improve their relationship' action or a 'try to move on themselves' action. In a way Luka//nette wouldn't have happened without Adrien.
TLDR: There was no right time because Luka was not the right guy. Adrien was the right guy wrong time, which allowed Luka to be the wrong guy right time.

Currently obsessed with the idea of 18-19 year old Adrien, Kagami, and Nino sharing an apartment together
Hawkmoth still hasn’t been caught yet, and Adrien is still Chat Noir, but now instead of just being able to slip because no one was watching him anyway, he has two roomates who love and care for him very much and he appreciates it so much but “hmm you guys I need to go, climb out the window, because I forgot to water my shoes,, ok bye see you later!”
Nino and Kagami know each others’ secret identities and they think that they’re a secret alliance of superheroes teaming up to protect Adrien
Nino has started some kind of music business and it’s actually going really well, meanwhile Adrien and Kagami are both like working at McDonalds, and everyone expected them to hate it because they’ve been super rich their entire lives so being thrown into customer service must be a nightmare, but instead they’re both so happy?
Adrien’s like “yes! I get to actually talk to other people at work!! My coworkers are super nice and i get to hang out with people my age!! My boss actually cares about me!!!” And Kagami’s like “wow this is so much easier than training and studing nonstop and I’m not even yelled at very much!” And Nino is like “hey guys I think I need to fight your parents”
Speaking of which, Kagami and Adrien offer each other a lot of emotional support on the whole “we are actually doing fine and we do not owe our parents anything” thing
They weren’t kicked out or anything, their parents just literally did not believe that they would be able to survive living on their own, so they’re still kind of just waiting for them to come crawling back, meanwhile they’re all just chilling and eating pizza together while they watch old movies and laugh
The love square is still being a disaster in the best way possible, ladynoir bffs, marinette sometimes visits their apartment and brings them random baked goods, it’s great. Also Marinette thinks that Adrien and Kagami MIGHT? be dating (they’re not) but it’s too awkward to ask at this point, so she’s trying to subtlely figure out if they are dating, and then is like “wait why do i care i like chat noir instead now” and two seconds later she’s like “nevermind i lied i do care”
It’s not really jealousy at this point, she’s bffs with Kagami even more than the other two, but she still,, just want to know,, if they’re together or not
Alya and Nino are still together but Alya’s just living on campus at her college, she visits almost every weekend though, and she’s become super close friends with Kagami by now, they watch movies together and bake and just hang out
They have board game night and Nino keeps beating Kagami at checkers and they get super competitive and Adrien just watches because it’s so entertaining
Also Kagami and Nino both play the violin and they practice together sometimes and Kagami features in some of Nino’s music
Adrien is taking a few physics classes online but mostly he’s just trying to hang out and learn how to be human and live a semi normal life (he’s still chat noir though lol)
Kagami finds out that Adrien has a crush on Ladybug and starts trying to set them up, it goes badly, then Nino joins in and it goes even worse
Kagami and Adrien are just really happy?? A lot of the time?? They just really appreciate having a kind of normal life
They also romanticize the heck out of the tiniest normal things, Adrien is like “!!!! Nino! Look!! I’m doing dishes! I’ve never done dishes before!!! This is so cool!!” And Nino is very supportive of his overly excited friend
Also Nino is having so much fun because like,, these two amazing idiots make literally everything so much more fun,, and also they’re some of his best friends and it’s like a sleepover with his bffs every single day
I have to stop at some point but this has been stuck in my head for literal months so if this gets popular I’ll probably make a part 2 with more of my ideas about them

okay, so i kinda had this idea for a
MIRACULOUS ACTORS AU
(which i'm sure already exists somewhere because i'm unoriginal like that, but hear me out)
'Miraculous' is a wildly acclaimed tv drama. It's actually kinda dark too, but still amazing (it actually has character development too)
Mari is Bridgette and Adrien is Felix, and the rest play their same roles as in the series (except Gabriel, he's actually the director/producer of the series)
And i also offer you this:
Marinette Dupain-Cheng:
• oblivious af
• has a crush on adrien but thinks he doesn't like her back so she friendzones him constantly
• bffs with chloe, alya and luka
• is totally trying to set up luka with chloe
• also designs clothes, has a very suffessful clothing line
• plays bridgette in the "miraculous" tv drama
• used to date luka a long time ago but they are best buds now
Adrien Agreste:
• head-over-heels for marinette but is constantly friendzoned
• cat puns because he can
• son of the tv director, gabriel agreste
• bffs with kagami, nino and luka
• is totally trying to set up luka and kagami
• plays felix in the "miraculous" tv drama
Alya Cesaire:
• plays bridgette's best frien on the "miraculous" tv drama
• was a fangirl of marinette's character and accidentally went to a casting and got chosen for her role on the series
• totally ships adrinette, but is done with mari's bs
• started dating nino after their characters also started dating because they started spending a lot of time together
• bffs with chloe and mari, but also befriends lila (she's still kinda startruck with all her new famous friends, can't stop looking at lila through rose-colored glasses because of that)
Nino Lahiffe:
• plays felix's best friend on the "miraculous" tv drama
• young disney star who rose to stardom for his music and his amazing acting
• fell in love with alya when he saw her tumble into the set during auditions
• secretly asked the writers to give his and alya's characters more scenes together (he was bamboozled by the dating thing tho)
• bffs with adrien and luka, also best buds with the rest of the 'akuma class'
• the friendliest off all cast members, a social butterfly
Chloe Bourgeois:
• plays bridgette's rival/eventual friend on the "miraculous" tv drama
• is actually a sweetheart in real life, with fans, actors
• constantly donated to charity, but tells no one because she doesn't like to brag
• extremely shy too (she can't talk to kagami without becoming a tomato)
• is totally crushing on kagami, thinks it's unrequited
• absolutely has bi panic when she sees kagami and luka in the same room
• kinda hooking up with luka, but no strings attached (that's why mari is trying to set them up)
• bffs with alya, mari, adrien and luka
Kagami Tsuguri:
• plays bridgette's love rival/friend on the "miraculous " tv drama
• panics in gay when she sees chloe
• isn't out yet because of her family
• one time she was ogling chloe while she was talking with luka, and adrien came up to her and scared her, causing her to lie that she was looking at luka, thus making adrien want to set them up
• is convinced chloe hates her because he often chloe runs away when she tries to approach her
• bffs with mari and adrien, really good friends with luka too, but not quite as close as with the other two
Luka Couffaine:
• plays felix's love rival on the "miraculous" tv drama (they butt heads a lot for bridgette's affections)
• is actually a world-renowned rock artist, but he wanted to change it up a little and took up acting too
• accidentally finds himself in a love triangle that actually just two very chaotic girls that need to learn to communicate
• is actually aromantic (not asexual, he likes to mess around with people)
• used to date mari before he realized he didn't feel any romantic feelings for her (or anyone)
• they broke up in the best of terms tho, truly, they saw each other more as friends than as lovers
• a huge gabriel agreste's movies/series fanboy (even if he won't ever tell that to anyone, over his dead body)
Lila Rossi:
• plays bridgette's classmate/yet to be revealed main villain on the "miraculous" tv drama
• liar liar pants on fire
• likes to spread rumours around about all the cast members and what will happen in the series
• producers hate her
• but she's a damn good actor and the public seems to love her so they really can't kick her out (they really wish they could tho)
• everyone on cast kinda hates her too
• is trying to get with adrien, makes fun of mari to make her 'less appealing' to adrien (doesn't really work, boi is whipped)
• likes to wreck havoc in the relationships for the lols
Gabriel Agreste:
• director and producer of the "miraculous" tv drama
• ACTUALLY A GOOD FUCKING FATHER
• loves adrien very much, kind of overprotective of him after his wife's death
• but let's him have his freedom
• secretly has a bettinf pool with tom and sabine on when adrien and marinette will get together
• bffs with tom and sabine (mari's irl parents, they are still bakers), used to know each other in school and went on multiple double dates when emilie was still alive
• for some reason they never really organized a play date for mari and adrien when they were childre  but oh well

Maribat Prompts/Au/Ideas That Live Rent Free in my Head
A while ago, I said I would share a few things that I’ve been wanting to write...
Damigami (platonic)- Damian decides to make a fencing team at Gotham Academy (because he’s bored) but couldn’t make a team with the minimum amount of members to apply to competitions. Damian decides to venture into competitions on his own, going as far as entering the Cadet World Championships (or juniors...I don’t know much about fencing pls bare with me). While waiting for his match, he decides to check the women’s division and sees Kagami utterly defeat her opponent. He wants to approach her to ask if they could have a match of their own, but is called for his own. After winning his own, he sees Kagami and asks for a match. She tells him that she will be up for a match after winning her next and final match. BOth end up winning their final matches and Damian asks her for that match. She agrees. They become good sparring partners and friends.
Jasonette - Jason and Marinette are neighbors, but have never actually met each other. Mari often works during the day at her boutique while Jason is a stay at home dad with two adopted kids nicknamed Xol and Matt. At night, Mari sometimes checks on the kids because she knows that their father works at night. (The kids like Mari a lot, especially her cooking and baking.) One day, while with the kids, their father comes home early and Mari forgets to breathe. Jason wants to scream at the kids for letting someone in but after getting to know her, he’s okay with Mari looking after the kids while he isn’t there. A week later, Jason is asking Mari for help. To pretend to be the kids’ mother for a home-visit from their school (a nosy parent told the school she often saw the kids by themselves). Mari agrees and chaos ensues (because these kids want their favorite people to stop beating around the bush and get together already).
Luka and Cass (platonic) - Luka (as Viperion) finds Cass during patrol one night and discovers she’s in Paris as an undercover agent for Batman and Co™ for the Hawkmoth situation. (They got their distress signal a week late.) Cass is surprised that he got it correct, Luka explaining that her song told him as much. While Cass remains in Paris, the two share each other’s interests with each other
Adrijon - Clark is wandering around the house, cleaning up the place while Lois is off out of the state to get the scoop on the latest national incident. While picking things around, he starts to notice how pricey and how nice these items look, wondering if they were Kon’s. After all, Kon was dating Tim and Tim always paid for whatever caught Kon’s eye. However, Kon doesn’t recognize any of the sweaters, coats, scarves nor trinkets as his own, leaving Jon as Clark’s only answer. As he enters Jon’s room, he’s met with Jon wearing the latest Gabriel piece from that week’s fashion show in Paris. Clark only then finds out that Jon’s boyfriend was yet again another rich boy. What was it with his sons dating millionaires/billionaires?
Wally x Mari x Jinx - The JL is still young, still getting used to getting requests, especially international ones. So when they get an SOS from Paris, the JL want to send the Teen Titans but can’t so they send Wally and Jinx who meet Chat on one of his solo patrols. They get along well but when they meet Ladybug, the couple immediately click with her. The trio often spend time together, Wally and Jinx always there for Ladybug/Mari (Chat always complaining that Wally and Jinx stole his bff from him). Even after the defeat of HM, Wally and Jinx continue to be there for Mari.
Corpse Bride inspired Au, Damigami - The Tsuguri’s have an arranged marriage with the Agreste's, but Kagami isn’t exactly on board with the idea (sees how uncomfortable Adrien is to marry her) and wanders through the woods to clear her head. While saying her vows (in hopes of trying to find a way to clear her head), she ‘weds’  Corpsebride!Mari. Mari is shocked at first but whole-heartedly accepts Kagami as her groom. Kagami tries to tell Mari it was a mistake, but Mari doesn’t listen. Kagami finds a way to return to the land of the living for help, only to find out her mother is now marrying her to the Wayne heir Damian. Kagami is then found by Mari and Mari confronts her on ‘cheating’ on her. MIsunderstandings and drama later, Kagami is about to marry Mari when Adrien crashes the wedding. Mari confronts Adrien (they were supposed to get married/had eloped) and ends up clearing the misunderstanding (someone had murdered her on her way to the wedding). Adrien drinks the poison to be able to be with Mari, leaving Kagami by herself. Or at least she thinks so. Damian had called off the wedding, and instead told her if it would be okay to just be friends and get to know each other. She agrees.
No Miraculous Au, BFF Adrijon- Adrien is on a fashion tour and ends up in Metropolis. He meets Jon but as Jon gets to know Adrien, he finds out about his situation. One thing leads to another and with the help of Bruce, the Kents have a new family member.
Juleka x Rose x Cass (platonic or romantic) - Juleka and Rose meet Cass on one of Prince Ali’s charities in Paris, a charity where Bruce and Oliver are at. Bruce brought Cass while Oliver brought Artemis. Rose quickly tries to befriend the two but Juleka reminds her to tone it a bit when she notices that the two are having trouble trying to handle Rose’s energeticness. But the girls find themselves getting along, especially Cass. Cass is intrigued by Juleka and Rose’s dynamic, how Rose is able to understand both her and Juleka with little to no words. She finds herself accepted by the two, keeping in touch with them and visiting them (with the help of zeta tubes)
Roynette - While visiting Titan Tower, Speedy meets Red Scara, a new teen who recently wanted a change of pace after defeating her villain in her hometown. While at first he didn’t pay much mind to her, he started to like her after being paired up with her on missions. He couldn’t help but enjoy their missions where they would have to go undercover. He gets to see Red Sacara in so many pretty outfits. He always compliments her, but Scara never fully accepts it. When Roy asks why, Scara says it's because she’s nothing like this. Roy calls bs and when Scara reveals her face, reveals her eyes, Roy couldn’t help but fall in love with her even further. “Who doesn’t love eyes as bright as sapphires and stars freckled across such a loving face?”
Big Sister Mari - Flash brings in a child who he found lost in Central City to the JL. Robin (Dick) watches Barry get scolded by Bruce, only for Barry to tell Mari to tell everyone why she was there. Mari shows off the ring she was wearing, that allowed her to transform into Noir. That it was the last magical item from her Earth, as she had used said magical item to destroy the others (after freeing the Kwami). How she used the knowledge as Guardian to move to another Earth to hide the last miraculous and was looking for a place to live. Bruce takes her in, earning Dick an older sister.
Cassette (I blame Phi for making me have a new fav ship) - Cass was looking through Marinette’s scrapped designs, designs that Marinette loved but others didn’t. Seeing her upset, Cass commissions her to make them for her and she adores wearing them. (Cass always shows them off to her brothers and family)
Cassette - Cass teaching Mari ballet just so that she can always catch Mari.
Cassette - Cass wants to bring a date to the gala. She chooses Mari and practically goes around the Gala to show off her very cute date.

I’m a warrior (now I’ve got thicker skin) Pt. 2
Part 1          Part 2          Part 3          Part 4          Part 5
Okay, so leaving off from the video.
Marinette gets an outpouring from love and support on Twitter, where she posted the video. However, there are a few comments that are rather disparaging. Chloe sees one of these and goes off.
She admits to being the childhood bully Marinette talked about, but despite her ruthlessly bullying the girl for four years and doing a multitude of things like stealing her diary, her designs, and attempting to frame her for a multitude of things, Marinette still offered her chances. (Of course, she had done this as Ladybug, but Chloe ignored that fact). She talked about how “disgustingly sweet” she was and how when offered an internship at New York by her mother, the Style Queen herself, she declined it and proceeded to jeopardize her career and risk getting blacklisted from the fashion industry to get her to stay in Paris with her bully. “I mean, who does that?!” And even after this act of kindness, she admitted to continue to bully Marinette. “We only became friends until that she-devil, Lie-la turned all her idiotic classmates against her. Honestly, the fact that Marinette is still trying to defend them is utterly ridiculous! They deserve to burn! The girl’s practically a saint, and they threw her away for a few half-baked lies.”
Adrien sees a hate comment saying “What even makes this girl so special?! It’s not like she even did anything” and writes a whole dang essay.
He starts by talking about the scarf she made him, and how she let him believe it was from his father just to make him happy. How she risked getting blacklisted again by taking the blame for Lila, who stole a book from Adrien, just to get him back in school and see him happy. Anonymously. “Marinette is the most caring person I know. She would do anything for another person’s happiness, even if she doesn’t get credit or acknowledgement.”
“Lila Rossi may have been the one to reach out to Hawkmoth, but everyone played a part in what happened to Marinette. Her BFF and childhood friends all turned on their ‘everyday Ladybug.’ The teachers and principal stood by and let it happen. They invalidated Marinette’s feelings by gaslighting and victim-blaming and showed blatant favoritism. They believe Lila, even after she made up the so-called ‘lying disease.’ They told Marinette she had to be the example. Our classmates hurled insults at her, tore up her work, tripped her in hallways. They spread petty rumors and posted nasty things online.
Let me remind you that people have been akumatized over nothing. A baby has been akumatized over wanting a lollipop. Marinette went through three years of physical and emotional abuse because of people she considered to be her friends and managed to not get akumatized for no other reason besides the fact that she couldn’t.
Hawkmoth himself said that Marinette would be his most powerful akuma; even more so that Chat Noir, who almost destroyed the universe. She’s the strongest person I know. There’s not anyone else I can think of that would be able to handle any of that without being akumatized.
Marinette may want to forgive these people for what they did to her, but I never will. And out of the two of us, I’m the one who’s more forgiving. They deserve everything that’s coming for them. They weren’t manipulated by Lila. They chose to believe her. They’re not the victims here. They had opportunity after opportunity to see that she was a liar, but they didn’t. They turned on Marinette because of a few pretty words and fake tears. Whenever one of Lila’s lies were uncovered, they chose to keep believing her.
Marinette went through what must have been torture to protect the world, and she’s still trying to protect the people who put her through hell and back. They don’t deserve her. None of us do.”
People go even MORE crazy after these series of tweets. It put into perspective what some of them didn’t think of, and the gushing about Marinette seemed to be a shared sentiment among her friends.
Now, the Justice League obviously knew about Hawkmoth. They talked to Ladybug and Chat Noir and decided the young heroes could handle the situation but continued to keep tabs on it. Once Marinette’s video came out, Dick was the first to see it. He sent it to his friends and the family group chat, and soon enough, all the heroes knew who Marinette was.
In the meantime, Adrien decided to start a fundraiser with some of the money he got from his father’s company. When Hawkmoth was revealed people questioned whether or not he had been involved, but the police quickly came to the conclusion that he had nothing to do with it. It didn’t hurt that he had the entire Miraculous Team backing him up.
Anyways, he tweeted it one night as a suprise alongside a reveal video. The Marinette Project, it was called. Adrien, Chloe, Kagami, and Luka had been in her living room with smiles on their faces. She was rightfully confused until they unveiled a cake and showed her a few papers. The video ended with her bursting into tears and a group hug.
The fundraiser was for bullying awareness and prevention. Once Adrien’s tweet went up, people started donating; from random citizens to celebrities that Marinette had worked with as MDC. Bruce Wayne even donated a very large sum, and--well, let’s just say the screams that came from the Dupain-Cheng bakery were loud.
What Marinette didn’t know, though, was that this donation would put into a series of events that would change her life forever.

pls spill on miraculous ladybug’s flaws
the horrible production cycle
it took 2½ years in between seasons 1 and 2
seriously why did the animation change drastically in quality depending on which studio did the animation. and why was it ugly anyway
marinette's flaws being treated as funny and quirky instead of borderline creepy and obsessive
you know what no scratch that part abt it being borderline. she stalks adrien 😐
adrien's flaws not even being acknowledged as such bc he's "perfect"
he never grows!!! astruc is seriously trying to find reasons to justify adrien's constant harassment of ladybug even though she keeps saying no to chat and its weird!!!
alya and nino being token black bff characters and are completely obsolete to the narrative unless its relevant
actually the entire supporting cast is like that tbh
chloé being "irredeemable"
astruc trying to victim blame a fictional 13 year old girl that he created just so he has an outlet for all of his childish rage is so fucking dumb!!! why did we idolize this manbaby!!
the identity shennanigans never go anywhere and the reason changes every time its brought up
actually everything is like that. this show has no continuity. and anytime the plot seems to progress its because they set the plot backwards while you werent looking and convinced you that there was progress
bonus points for the fact that the writers just make up plot points as they go along with no build up (and a lot of the time zero exposition)
luka
they botched a perfectly good plotline with kagami by making her have an obsessive crush on adrien
honestly the entire love hexagon scenario in general. the love square had enough potential as it did and yall ruined it with forced love triangles
the premise of the show being "strong women" and then reverting back to tired tropes about catty high school drama
SECONDHAND EMBARASSMENT OVERLOAD
the 3d models for the characters are just. so bad. like dolls. and you can see it especially with their clothes and the way their joints move 🥴 yikees
token ethnic diversity seen in alya and nino (obv), marinette being mixed-chinese but looking entirely white and not participating in her chinese heritage at all, etc (on that note isnt alya's family from martinique? not sure if i created a false reality or not but if i didnt i never hear anything abt it)
honestly the whole chinese zodiac thing just. eeuggh it Feels like a white man wrote it (and it was)
i never watched the movie but again. proper cultural representation matters and when u have characters that are a certain ethnicity and u dont bother to involve their culture..... 😬😬
if i had a nickel for every time this show sexualized its young teenage characters, you might as well call me jeff bezos
i think i remember seeing that the storyboard artists for the show literally drew p*rn of them 🤢🤢🤢
not even gonna mention that robot girl's design from the ny special. what the fuck w
gabriel is so way over-the-top he doesnt make for a sympathetic OR compelling villain. hes an emotionally abusive father, an obsessive husband, a deranged madman all while being a stone cold rich genius. he just feels fake (like all the characters in this show)
lila
félix
half the characters in this show do not need to exist
i do not care about adrien's extended family drama and nor should you
astruc's god complex seeping into the show gives me secondhand embarassment. animaestro felt like the virgin edition of butch hartman making himself a ripped chad doctor in his own show

As someone who doesn’t watch the show, what is it about “Chameleon” that upset people?
Well...
Despite being the Season 3 premiere, the episode had zero connection to the events that happened in the Season 2 finale, like the appearance of a new supervillain and Marinette actually kissing Adrien on the cheek (seriously, the show is as determined to forget this ever happened as China is to forget the Tiananmen Square protests ever happened).
The plot follows Italian transfer student Lila (who had appeared in a total of three episodes over the past two seasons and is now being made a major threat) easily winning over the attention of everyone in Marinette and Adrien’s class with her lies which sound incredibly ridiculous. I get this is a kids’ show, but the fact that we’re supposed to see her as this master manipulator is ridiculous when she tells lies such as...
Having tinnitus as a result of saving a famous rock star’s pet cat (a pet he doesn’t have as he has a crocodile) by running onto an airport runway
Having a famous pianist as for an uncle, but can’t play the piano because of arthritis
Being friends with a famous manga artist in Japan
Having an uncle that works for Nintendo (Okay, she didn’t say that last one, but would you really be surprised if she really said that?)
The main conflict of the episode being that Marinette’s friends easily turn on her by believing a girl they barely know, with Marinette’s friend Alya dismissing her claims that she’s a liar with the fact that she’s just jealous because of how close she is with Adrien (though some have taken Alya’s side on this issue, saying it’s believable with how she acts around love rivals like Chloe and Kagami), and forcing her to sit in the back of the class in a new seating arrangement without even consulting her first
While we’re on the subject, the fact that her friends are never called out on their behavior by the end of the episode when things are set back to normal (because of course they are). It doesn’t help that Alya says, and I quote “You didn't think I'd let my BFF sit all by herself, did you?”

The fact that despite being called “Chameleon” Lila never gets a cool chameleon costume when she gets akumatized.
And the controversial lesson at the end where Adrien convinces Marinette to give up on trying to expose Lila, reasoning that “making a bad guy suffer has never turned them into a good guy”. Debate that all you want, but I like to believe that making a bad guy suffer makes them less likely to do bad things, a prime example being Hiroshima in 1945.
I’m more lenient on this point, as it did lead to one of the few actual character arcs this show had, with Adrien realizing how harmful Lila’s lies are to others, and reaching his breaking point by the end of the season
But as a whole, this episode was really the changing point for the Miraculous Ladybug fandom. It changed the perceptions of several characters like Adrien and Alya, to the point where an entire genre of Miraculous fanfics, dubbed “salt fics” was born.
These stories usually followed the formula of Marinette finding a way to get back at Lila by teaming up with other supporting characters (and possibly Adrien, depending on how the author feels about him), while treating most of her classmates like they’re the spawn of Satan, having them do far worse things to Marinette than simply shunning her. If Adrien isn’t on her side (being too afraid to actually tell everyone the truth of Lila), it would be another love interest like Luka, Felix (basically an original character based off concept art shared by the fandom), and sometimes, Damian Wayne. I’m not making that last one up by the way.
While I don’t think it’s as bad as everyone says (trust me, it’s still bad), I can understand why people were so pissed off by "Chameleon”.
If you want to learn more about salt fics or what people thought of this episode, just look up “Chameleon salt”. Just be careful, it’s a real rabbit hole you’re diving into.
