last year, around november, i decided to listen to the bsg soundtrack and write my thoughts as i listened to each song.
didn't get all the way through (i got up to s3's soundtrack and stopped) and honestly i'm so glad i went through as much as i did and wrote until my hand cramped because re-reading some of my thoughts is both fun and useful.
think once i finish the current notebook i'm filling with quotes from antigone i'm gonna go and finish my....detailed listening? i suppose is what i wanna call it.
(also it was a surprisingly good writing exercise!)

My Vetinari Playlist. Some songs are very specific others are entirely vibes based, also a lot of girlboss songs because those fit his approach to being a Tyrant the best somehow. Like Vimes he would vehemently hate some of these songs, I have added them nonetheless. Reasoning/guide to the songs under the cut.
Politics and The City, always the City. I think a lot about Vimes' internal monologue from Night Watch about the city's supply chain and Vetinari being the only ruler of the city to really worry about it's function :
Hymn to the Breaking Strain by Secular Solstice (because the Leslie fish version isn't available on Spotify. Vetinari isn't an engineer but he appreciates their value and danger)
All Along The Watchtower by Bear Mcreary (Vimes gets the Jimi Hendrix, Vetinari gets the version from BSG, which is ominous and was used to unveil a conspiracy)
& by Tally Hall
How Now Dark Cloud by TMBG
I Am Alone by TMBG
Darling The Dose by TMBG
His Kiss The Riot from Hades Town (I also imagine if Vetinari sang his voice would be a baritone of this caliber)
The Body Is A Blade by Japanese Breakfast
Stone Cold Coup D'etat
Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles
Ballad of a Politician by Regina Spektor
Everybody Wants to Rule The World by Tears for Fears (cover by NSP)
She's Always A Woman by Billy Joel
The Circle by Secular Solstice (this is actually a carrot song, but there's a reason Carrot and Vetinari get along)
Gun Song from Assassins (I am always thinking about men at arms and the Gonne)
This is where I would normally put the characters love interest songs but Vetinari's one true love is (bad)puns:
Hate the Villanelle by TMBG
Rest Employed by The Stupendium
Poisoning Pigeons in the Park by Tom Lerher
I Palindrome I by TMBG
Party Dog by Tom Cardy (dog things AND city-state politics)
The World's Address by TMBG
Havelock "do I need a button that says Tyrant" Vetinari and his commitment to the Villain bit:
Villain by Stella Jang
Red Right Hand by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Oh No! By MARINA
Villain by K/DA
Feeling Good by Nina Simone cover by Micheal Bublé (Bond villain sounding song but the lyrics are just enjoying normal nice stuff, exactly Vetinari's thing)
Enemy by Imagine Dragons
Bitch Better Have My Money by Rihanna (soundtrack to drumknott getting out the Tax Ledger)
I'm Alive from Next To Normal
Vetinari's nihilism and humanism, the roiling sea of evil and the moral imperative to be better than the gods:
No one Knows My Plan by TMBG
Be Prepared from The Lion King (did you think I wouldn't include a real Disney villain song, besides it's JEREMY IRONS aka Vetinari from the Color of Magic tv series)
Things Are Not What They Appear by The Gothic Archies
Last Wave by TMBG
This Too Shall Pass by Danny Schmidt
They're Only Human from the Death Note musical (hear me out, it's a conversation between Vetinari and Margolotta, you decide who's who)
Let's Get This Over With by TMBG
Cruel to be Cruel by Jessica Law
Living Thing by Electric Light Orchestra (Vetinari and his difficulty getting rid of one of a kind things, I think about leonard of quirm a lot)
Mad World by Gary Jules and Micheal Andrews
Misc:
I Like Fun by TMBG (entirely for the "my excellence at parkour may be unexpected at the age of 58" also the clock thing)
A Good Song Never Dies by Saint Motel (local patrician haunted by a little goblin girl's music forever)
Little Lion Man by Mumford & Sons (Vetinari and Vimes song, ruining his life/the watch, being part of fixing it, constantly pushing him, occasionally pushing too hard)

Thank you for the tag, @madamairlock!
Last song: "Lords of Kobol" by Bear McCreary from Battlestar Galactica: Season 2 (Original Soundtrack)
Currently watching: Rewatching a lot of things recently: Killjoys, Battlestar Galactica (2003), The Pretender, Star Trek: Voyager, Into the Badlands, and Miami Vice. The last new thing I started was Shrinking. The last new thing I watched as it aired was Ted Lasso. The last new thing I binged was The Diplomat.
Currently reading: I finally picked up Wool again. My best friend started watching Silo and was very disappointed in the adaptation. She loved the books and had recommended them to me ages ago. So, I decided it was time. I must understand her pain.
Current obsession: Still obsessing over BSG mostly. Trying to make progress on about five stories in that world. Really excited about rewatching Killjoys so I can flail with @madamairlock as she watches it.
Tagging: @imsfire2, @callioope, @brynnmclean, @miabicicletta, @holy-ships-x-red-lips, and anyone else who might be interested. As always, no pressure!

I didn't know until now that Deadline is hosting those exciting behind the scenes episodes where the actors, writers, directors and others members of the artistic team explain how they create the show.
If you loved like me episode 5 Partings, you will really enjoy this bonus.
This time the special guests are for the actors: Morfydd Clark (Galadriel),Charlie Vickers (Halbrand), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Queen Regent Miriel), Trystan Gravelle (Pharazon), Ema Horvath (Earien), and Leon Wadham (Kemen)
The episode director Wayne Che Yip, writer Justin Doble, and composer Bear McCreary gave too some interviews.
My favorite parts:
When Charlie Vickers and Wayne Yip confirmed that Morfydd Clark and all the actors that played with her in the swords fight scene had done so much stunt rehearsal, when came the day of filming it, they did the entire scene without the help of the stunt actors, which allowed the director to make full shots of Morfydd instead of doing only close ups of her face to hide the fact it's not her.
Leon Wadham is so excited about playing Kemen, his relationship with Eärien and his father Pharazön! He gave a lot of insights about what Kemen thinks and what he wants, that changed my view on the character and his intentions."His" Kemen is more eager initially to follow his father's path and more selfish than i perceived him to be, thus Isildur's decision to save his life instead of running away shocked him: he saw it as something incredibly selfless and heroic.
Ema Horvath brings so many good insights about Eärien's attachment to Nùmenor, how her love for Isildur is linked to the fact that she already lost her mother and can't see her other brother.
Which brings the question: what about her father? Why isn't her relationship with Elendir more developed? They had one scene together long ago (episode 3), in which' their relationship didn't seem good. While he showed a strong support to Isildur's career to the point to force him to enroll in the Sea Guard, he was shocked that she submitted a new application to the Builder's Guild (she hide it from him probably because she feared he would discourage her, he was already convinced the Guild wouldn't reconsider its decision), and shouted at her when she tried to defend her brother. When they left for war, the crowd stopped her from reaching Isildur, which broke her heart, but nothing was showed or said about her feelings about Elendil'sdeparture (unless it was cut).
Everything that Bear McCreary said about the role of music in Tolkien's work and what it meant to him is like poetry (especially the part where he said he was already creating music for the LOTR universe in the back of his mind decades before being hired for the series). He's so attuned to Tolkien's work, so immersed in Howard Shore's soundtracks for the films and in Peter Jackson's adaptations, that contributing to the series is really a dream coming true for him, which explains why he reacts in such powerful and vibrant way to it.
I discovered his work on Battlestar Galactica (2005), the best Sci-Fi show ever made, and to say he fell deeply in love with this show and felt it in his bones wouldn't convey even enough how composing for BSG was intense for him. BSG soundtracks were his greatest work ever. I feel the same level of dedication here and it's moving.
The actors, writer and director are talking a lot also about Galadriel and Halbrand's relationship, so it's a good BTS episode for their fans too.

Tagged by @merelyafigment - thank you!
three ships: Oh gosh. Three??? Making decisions is not my forte xD Well currently it's Kassidas, no question. I'll go with Kassandra x Daphnae from Odyssey too. Been thinking about writing for that for a long time. And... Starpollo, because I've been thinking about rewatching BSG again (comfort show status). That's not a true romantic pairing though. I just find them both really interesting character studies. And their relationship is fascinating too, romantic or otherwise.
first ship: Hah! Probably Revanasi. KotOR shoutout. If Raphael Sbarge doesn't come back to play Carth in the remake I won't be able to do it. He's my favorite comfort voice of all time because of this character. Tried to name my kid after him. The partner wasn't having it xD
last song: Unshaken by D'Angelo.. This soundtrack has had its hooks in me all day, especially this song. Aaand I'm having thoughts on it, so you're stuck now... HA! I've never seen music used this way in any other game and it ROCKS. The sound... the lyrics (I mean come on - that bit about the pines and the well... in context?! Amazing.), and that RHYTHM... GAH. I'm a former equestrian and it's timed to a flawless lope... 3 beats... perfectly synced. I feel it in my entire body every time. It's body-memory. In my bones for life. And D'Angelo... so good! SO good!
last movie: I had to think really hard about this. It's been a looooong time. I think it was Fellowship of the Ring - brother's birthday. Family obsession.
currently reading: Witcher Series, VERY slowly. I suck at sticking with books these days. Too many other things going on. Andrzej's work is fantastic though. LOVE his version of the Beauty and the Beast. He tells the most wonderfully horrific stories.
currently watching: Nothing.... Lame, I know. I never have the time xD
currently consuming: This is very ambiguous. I'm going with media. Working on my first AC Valhalla playthrough at the moment. Great winter game in theory. Mixed feelings.
currently craving: Nothing. Going through a weird never hungry phase. Do not recommend.
I enjoy being tagged and hate pressuring people, so I'll throw a bunch out there and I'm serious when I say this is zero pressure xD I do love reading them though! @findusinaweek, @brasideios, @aeide, @justalittlerayofpitchblack, @dmisthios, @fikali

So I was tagged by @apicturewithasmile to post screenshots of my lockscreen, homescreen, and last song I listened to.
My lockscreen is a pic of me with my mom and my sisters at my graduation (not posting the screenshot because I don’t feel comfortable posting a picture of my family on here).

I guess that besides all the drums and rhythm sections the BSG soundtrack really captures the longing of and for true humanity.... Everyone who has watched the show knows that "humanity" turns ou to be a fluid concept on the show. But if we think of humanity as something that involves emotions, feelings, brokenness, vulnerability. Then yeah - the music beautifully transports all those feelings. A desire to feel, to be real, to love and to be ...back home.

🌧️ 🎄 🎶 💘 🔪
🌧️- favorite thing to do on rainy days?
Stay in and listen to the rain of course!
🎄- what is your favorite holiday?
The 4th of November aka Death to America day
🎶- favorite song right now?
A couple but let’s go with Something Dark is Coming from the BSG soundtrack for the time being so that I don’t have to decide which Gazelle Twin remix is my favorite right now
💘- 3 ways to win your heart?
I’m not that complex, there are no requirements or boxes to tick or shortcuts for me to love someone, it’s the little gestures and being good that counts
Just be yourself, show a bit of interest and see what happens
Or just tell me outright if you’re bold and brave enough
🔪- scariest/creepiest experience?
I honestly can’t think of anything truly interesting I’m afraid, I don’t live a very exciting life but I don’t mind it

C J O U X
C: A ship you have never liked and probably never will: blair waldorf and chuck fucking rap*st asshole bass. (“be nice” is reserved for pairings that don’t involve fucking terrible people.) sterek is another one. aside from that, i still do not understand kid/law or care for it and probably never will.
J: Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr: uh. the magicians (rip), teen wolf, shadowhunters... predominantly fandoms i have since disowned. huh.
O:Choose a song at random, which ship or character does it remind you of: okay so i hit shuffle on my library and the first song that came up was “never had” from the 10 years soundtrack and uh. that song is forever my shao/zeke song. and now i’m emo.
U: 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms: okay here we go
kara thrace - bsg
benjamin florian - descendants
alec hardison - leverage
dizzee kipling - the get down
maia roberts - shadowhunters
X: top 5-10 characters who are yoUR PRECIOUS BABIES AND YOU WILL DIE DEFENDING THEM: okay okay this is gonna be fun.
MAL FROM DESCENDANTS. STOP HATING ABUSE SURVIVORS YOU FUCKWITS
ben from descendants. if you hate ben, i probably don’t like you.
kel from tortall. people think she’s boring and i truly want to punch those people in the face. really hard.
shawn from psych. especially because a lot of the reasons people have for disliking him are frankly just his trauma and lack of therapy showing
scott from teen wolf. literal sunshine baby that i will FIGHT people over.
quentin from the magicians. remember how people called the depressed bisexual lead who underwent a shitload of trauma boring and said they’d prefer him dead? yeah those people can fucking fight me.
steve from stranger things. angel baby. not really. but he’s a lot better now. and if anyone really wants to say he’s still an asshole after the scene with robin they can fucking fight me
kaku from one piece. he’s a sweetheart, government assassin stuff aside. i love him.
idk how i got here but jace from shadowhunters. for similar reasons as shawn.
listen i only just started going her wrt her but i will die defending o-kiku from one piece and if anyone tries to misgender her i will personally punch them in the face

Thank you @spacepandar and @holy-ships-x-red-lips for tagging me! I hope you both don't mind that I'm answering both tags with this one post! (Also—sorry it took me so long to do this!)
Shuffle your ‘on repeat’ playlist and post the first ten tracks: So, I work from home and don't use Spotify at all or play a lot of music from my phone or laptop. I tend to listen to what my spouse plays either through his computer or on vinyl or CD. What I'm trying to say is, if I shuffled my recently played list on Apple Music, all ten tracks would be off the BSG season 2 soundtrack. In light of this, I have taken the last five records we listened to and his recently played list and mine and made a playlist and shuffled that. WHEW!
"Dreamer" by Voyager from Fearless in Love
"City Dreams (interlude)" by The Midnight from Monsters
"Epic Keeti" by Pilich Und Funk from Lullabies for Robots
"Chiasm" by Berlinist from Gris (Original Game Soundtrack)
"Be Yours" by Laveda from A Place You Grew Up In
"Demi" by Analog '82 from Youthtopia
"Reuniting the Fleet/Roslin Confesses" by Bear McCreary from Battlestar Galactica: Season 2 (Original Soundtrack)
"Droplets" by Whytwo from Ghost
"Flowers of Gold" by Sakura Tsuruta from C / O
"Running Out of Time" by Paramore from This Is Why
Tagging: @callioope, @brynnmclean, @melyzard, @madamairlock, @cryscal, @fracktastic, @thevulcanbobdylan, @theshadowsedges, @miabicicletta, and anyone else who might be interested—no pressure!
