Headcanon i've had for a while now about how minecraft hack clients could work, similar to the headcanons about how in game chat would work.
Just sort of an explanation with some examples, obviously some hacks are pretty hard to translate into a physical thing, but i tried my best. :)
Full text can also be found under read more.
"Hack Clients" are illegal modifications of a player's attire (i.e. player skin) in order to give them an unfair advantage. The visibility of a "Hack Client" modification depends on the server a player is on. On servers such as 2b2t, these modifications are obviously visible while on stricter servers, such as Hypixel, hackers will try to be more subtle, often hiding modifications underneath clothing.
Eyewear: Modified for use of visual hacks (i.e. x-ray. fullbright, esp, etc.), the easiest to hide from moderators.
Footwear: Modified for use of hacks such as Anti-Knockback, High-jump, and other similar hacks.
Mechanical Braces: Used to allow players to move with otherwise impossible reaction times, most often used for PVP. Completely illegal on most servers, players will attempt to hide them underneath clothing but often fail.
Leg brace: Used for b-hopping.
Arm brace: Used for kill-aura and aimbot.

I can’t really play minecraft anymore because it makes me too motion sick and frankly terrified (every video game is a horror game when you’re bad at combat and have anxiety) but the cultural impact of this game is such that I have been hangin around watching people play minecraft on YouTube for over a decade at this point

As a game dev I feel bad for the Minecraft team, I totaly get why people are upset about the firefly and the birch biome, but my guys, adding a new boss type character is a humongus task, especially in such a short time frame.
I can tell you all that the fact that, they wanted to send the Warden out in the next update, and that was their priority, so by Mojang standards it had to be really clean with as few bugs as possible (0 bugs is really hard to send out, even for a big team)
So they were probably thinking, ehat can we cut so no one is overworked and the priority asset is the main focous, and BAM birch forest is out.
Next a higher up says to the team, firefly are poisonous to frogs, don't make them eat it. So the team was ok! But then fireflies didn't have a use, and they didn't have the time to brinstorm, conceptualize, program, make assets for the fireflies, and then BAM fireflies are out.
I understand people are upset, but please think about how many AAA teams are overworked and underpaid, and still sends stuff with 0 quality (cof cof Cyberpunk). And maybe this update isn't what you expected, but who knows what the next updates will have.
Yoir feelings are valid, but let's not shit on a team of people that are trying their best ok?

When I was still getting into mcyt and saw all these posts about how much prettier hermitcraft was compared to the dream smp I was like: it's still just Minecraft? Like it's sort of an ugly game.
Then I watch hermitcraft and was like: oh no people were right this is beautiful.

I'm really glad to have found the Hermitcraft fandom here on Tumblr, I've been a long time fan and it's awesome to discover all this great fanart and content and stuff. Any must-follow MCYT/Hermitcraft/Minecraft blogs?
oh gosh, welcome! in general i am BAD about remembering who i follow and who i don't; a great way to find who you want to follow might be to just go through the #hermitcraft tag and follow people you find funny, or, heck, if i reblog a lot of art from a certain artist you like (or not a lot, like one art even), go follow them!
while we're here, a few additional general etiquette rules (keeping in mind that like, this is tumblr, trying to claim ANYTHING is a whole-community norm is basically impossible i am claiming a norm from my specific circle of guys): do not crosstag, only tag things that are actually in your post. don't use the 'minecraft' tag, that tag is for people who like the actual game. (i mean, you can use it if you are posting about minecraft, but not if you're posting about the youtubers). it's generally considered rude to put your crit in the main tags, especially without tagging 'discourse' somewhere so it can be filtered. shipping should generally have a 'hermitshipping' tag on it for filtering purposes as well, but if something is tagged hermitshipping and you're mad about it just like, block them, they did the important part.
the hermits i know of on tumblr (could be more, idk): @/joehills @/pearlescentmoo @/falsesymmetry @/therealdocm77 (not actually active but has the account) @/geminitayyt. cleo also had an account but it is no longer active. also @/inthelittlewood is here and like very active, as is @/askzloyxp and @/quinnhills. as a general etiquette rule, just... act like they're perfectly ordinary tumblr users and continue your business as usual! and don't send them weird asks or anything.
off the top of my head, a few blogs i like, an EXTREMELY non-exhaustive list, find your own guys out there as well you won't regret it! like, you will find the experience you like best just going out there and looking for it yourself! i've absolutely missed a bunch of guys i love, let alone guys you would love! this is like 10 million percent non-exhaustive, i follow 1,570 blogs apparently, many of which aren't hermitcraft or mcyt related, but many of which are, so i just sorta. went for it. and when i was having trouble remembering if a name was a repeat that's when i stopped. so. non-exhaustive list:
@nightshadeowl, @jestroer, @astronomodome, @kingtheghast, @floweroflaurelin, @roenais, @silverskye13, @wasyago, @rusty-courage, @art-by-fate, @silverskye13, @redstonedust, @betweenlands, @sixteenth-days, @judas-iscaryot, @terracottakore, @cherrifire, @antimony-medusa, @hybbart, @made-nondescript, @luigra, @cuteiemonster, @mawofthemagnetar, @potionofinstantdamage, @concorp, @spiderziege, @salemoleander, @bc-jpeg, @magicalmanhattanproject, @simplydm, @12u3ie, @mishapen-dear, @lunarblazes, @girltimeswithscar, @kishdoodles, @quaranmine, @shadeswift99, @bdoubleowo, @quicksandblock, @beacon-lamp, @kikunai, @sideblague, @applestruda, @ingapotejtoo, @belmarzi, @strifetxt
anyway FEEL FREE TO PROMO GUYS OR YOURSELF ON THIS POST TOO! from what i understand we may be getting some new guys sometime soon here from the twitter lands? so it may be helpful to have that for anyone who's looking for new guys to follow!
and most of all: WELCOME!!!

Hello Technoblade voters!
So, your guy lost to the GoodTimes. Maybe you don’t know who to vote for now. I mean, if Technoblade isn’t immune to the good times… who is?
I propose to you: Ethoslab.
Now, if you don’t know who Etho is, lemme give you a rundown.
he’s one of THE og minecraft letsplayers. your favorite minecraft youtuber? yeah, etho is probably one of the reasons they got into mcyt. etho is your favorite mcyt’s favorite mcyt
he’s faceless, and has been for his entire 12+ year youtube career
he has only changed his skin once or twice in those 12 years, and the most recent one was to remove the extra face on his torso because he didn’t know how previously
that skin is literally just kakashi naruto
etho is a god at redstone. he basically invented half the redstone that’s used today. hopper clock? that’s etho’s. i mean… he’s invented a storage system that lets you search for a specific item. it’s called the googler because it’s basically a search engine.
he is an absolute NERD (/aff) and insanely smart
he is genuinely kind to his friends, and has a very sweet yet mischievous demeanor. though, even his friends will call him mysterious
he’s canadian so like… arctic/antarctic solidarity… right?
he has spent many many MANY years perfecting a PVP arena game called Battle Bane. look it up. it’s insane.
actually, all the minigames he’s made are pretty insane. and most of them involve death. i mean. he had one called Hurtin’ Hermits where the whole goal was to kill the other hermits as much as possible and enact chaos
I could go on and on about Etho and what he’s like. HOWEVER. I think it’s more interesting to tell you how he’s portrayed by the fandom.
etho tends to be portrayed as a quiet, broody, mysterious guy despite actually being a bit of a goofball
he’s drawn not as kakashi naruto, but more often, a hot twink that can range from sad puppy to sexy dude covered in blood in the span of a single post
some people headcanon him to be as old as the universe, and tied to the void
he has multiple popular animal traits, from catboy to bunny to most commonly arctic fox
there’s etho titty tuesday. there’s. i mean. there’s etho titty tuesday.
i mean really, just… go into the ethoslab tag and you can see all the ways he’s portrayed.
And if that’s not convincing enough, here are some things he’s done in canon to hopefully sway you.
in season 7 of hermitcraft, he had a shop called Shade-E-E’s, where people could sign other people up to basically get harassed (/lh) by Etho’s shenanigans. “Free Glass” meant panes of light grey glass hidden in all your chests so you couldn’t put things into the chest. “Gardening” meant beehives hidden throughout your base so you would hear buzzing at random. “Pest Relocation” meant spawning endermites in your home.
also in season 7, he had the shop Sneak-E-E’s, which was a secret popup shop where he undercut prices or sold rare item overstock. you could only buy while it existed, and only when you could find it. the first time it was built was up in the sky, all out of shulker boxes so it wouldn’t render in until you got close. the second time was in the unused floor of Mayor GoodTimesWithScar’s shop. scar had no idea for. a while.
in last life, he scammed scar out of a life to give to bdubs, and then promptly killed scar and stole the enchanter. oh yeah, he did it with a fishing rod, too.
in season 9, he moved into bdubs’ basement without telling bdubs
in season 9, he also started late. so, in order to catch up, he exiled himself to a place untouched by the other hermits and wouldn’t let himself come back until he was able to defeat a full raid on his own. it didn’t take him long.
in double life, he and joel were paired, and were the most chaotic duo on the server. they hunted people for sport (notably, grian and scar) and burned things down for fun. “the ship burns everything burns” chanted as they set the entire map on fire
in last life, he went around trying to intimidate people into giving him gifts and he would spare their life. pretty much everyone was instantly afraid of him.
actually, most of the hermits are pretty intimidated by etho. including goodtimeswithscar.
also, most of the hermits are ethogirls.
etho and scar end up on opposing sides in pretty much everything, especially the life series (which is a funky lil hardcore battle royale). they are traditionally enemies. they pick fights with each other for fun.
If you want vengeance for Technoblade— blood for the blood god— vote Ethoslab.
Sincerely, Ethogirls

why you should vote herobrine in every single Tumblr Sexyman poll
he's one of the originals: look, a lot of these upstarts are new to the party. they may be sexy and they may be men, but they lack legacy. not so with herobrine. herobrine's been around. he's been around before sans. he's been around before bill cipher. he's one of the original originals alongside the onceler himself. know your herstory etc etc
he fits more of the criteria: look. i love benrey, i love reigen arataka, i love raymond animalcrossing. but look me in the eyes and tell me: is there a significant portion of people who ship them with themselves? once upon a time that used to be a requirement. and guess who does fit that requirement? that's right. herobrine. i mean, yeah, there's also herosteve i guess, but i was there back in the mid-2010s! i know what i saw! even to this day people will make new herobrine variant ocs! and guess what! sometimes they smooch!
he's a trailblazer: i think quite possibly one of the few more influential video game creepypastas you could cite would be BEN Drowned, but with all my respects -- he does not have the advantage of being in one of the longest-living games of the decade. herobrine, meanwhile? herobrine comes from the same time as first-era MCYT, and no matter how you feel about the phrase "MCYT" as a whole, you should know that interpretive roleplay and storytelling in the confines of video games is very, very cool and very, very important. and the first villain of every 13-year-old's minecraft roleplay? if it wasn't herobrine, he almost certainly made an impact elsewhere.
he's been through a lot: if i had a nickel for every time i saw whitewashed herobrine i would probably be a millionaire. despite being blocks he gets drawn as a stereotypical muscleman (twig herobrines get a pass they have a je ne sais quoi about them). his alive half-brother is a total asshole. people hate him on instinct because some famous jackass or another happens to play the game he's originated from. he's gotten banned from minecraft at least 10 separate times. he doesn't deserve this. he's just really been through the ringer and he really deserves this win.
i love your other guys. i do. except one or two of them but i don't want those guys anywhere near my blog so i'm not naming those fuckers. but for the most part i love like 90% of them and if it were up to me they'd all be given titles for their individual contributions to sexymandom.
but c'mon, y'all, it's herobrine minecraft. someone changed four pixels on the original steve skin and made a complete and utter legend and we can't just let that go unaccoladed forever.
Tumblr media
[ID: an image of Herobrine's skin at a 3/4ths angle facing right. /End ID.]
the universe loves you very much, be gay do minecraft and vote herobrine.

I don't know if this is gonna make sense but sometimes it feels like the mcyt community is the same as americans forgetting other countries exist
People talk about mcyt when really what they mean is Grian and adjascent creators. They do exist, sure, but there's an entire world out there. There's even (shocking news, you may want to sit down) mcyters who only play on singleplayer
And I don't have anything against hermitcraft or life series, but for fucks sake there's more to minecraft youtube than Grian and Scar throwing tnt with love letters attached at each other
Mcyt involves farm and build tutorials, it involves exploiting game mechanics to break limits, it involves making torture machines to punish mobs that killed you, it involves trying to beat the game under self imposed rules, it involves trying out modpacks and texture packs, it involves writing a storyline for a mob, it involves breaking out of escape rooms, it involves sharing pvp tips
I'm sick of seeing people go "everyone in the mcyt fandom likes this and hates that" shut the fuck up. Everyone on hermit or life series fandoms might have that opinion, don't speak for the rest of us

MCYT on Ao3 - March '24
The state of MCYT on Ao3, just for fun. Yes I do this every month, I like numbers.
There were some very significant changes in the MCYT space with certain people being outed as abusive or predatory, with some people describing the wave of people coming forward as "mcyt's #metoo moment", so I would expect to see that reflected in the statistics. Let's go for it!
Incidentally, I reached the limit for bullet points on Tumblr, so it's time to switch this over to a spreadsheet! Which means I get to do colour coding, fun.
Some Notes:
I didn't see any new fandoms this month, but ocassionally I've missed something. Feel free to let me know if I've missed a fandom!
Fics are still primarily in english, but we have three exceptions with significant spanish fics. Karmaland (751 of 860 are in spanish, from 750 last month), Tortillaland (109 of 115 are in spanish, the same as last month), and QSMP (845 of 8,475 are in spanish, from 827 last month.)
QSMP also shows 47 fics in French, up from 43 last month, and 454 in Brasilian Portugese, up from 452 last month. While I did not check every language this month, I checked on the languages I knew had a fic in QSMP and we see 1 fic in Bahasa Malaysia, 1 fic in Dansk (Danish), 2 fic in Deutsch (German) up from 1 last month, 1 fic in Esperanto, 1 fic in Filipino, 5 works in European Portugese, 2 fics in Polski (Polish), 7 fics in Русский (Russian), 1 fic in Suomi (Finnish), 1 fic in Svenska (Swedish), 1 fic in Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese), and 4 fics in 中文-普通话 國語 (Mandarin Chinese, I believe) up from 3 last month. While several 한국어 (Korean) speakers were recently added to the QSMP, there are currently no fics in 한글 (written Korean). The one fic in ASL has been either re-filed or deleted.
In the small and micro-sized fandoms, HBG's atypical increase of 16 fics last month was followed by a decrease of 7 this month. So not sure what happened there but something happened there. The fandom with the greatest increase is New Life, with an increase of 11, followed by My Inner Demons, with an increase of 9.
In the middle sized fandoms, another Aphmau fandom took the flag, with MyStreet showing an increase of 42 fics. That is followed by Minecraft Diaries and Evolution SMP, at 26 and 25 respectively.
In the post-canon big fandoms, 3rd Life was our standout, with an increase of 398 fics (less than last month's 558 or the previous month's record 831. Origins was noteworthy for posting an actual decrease of 30 fics, in contrast to the previous month's increase of 19. Dream SMP was probably the fandom hardest hit by the outing of abusers mentioned at the start, and far from last month's increase of 591, they showed an actual decrease of 801 fics. So a difference in expected fics posted of approximately 1,400 fics.
Dream SMP was actually not the fandom that posted the greatest decrease, as that belongs to Minecraft (Video Game), which saw a decrease of 1,555 fics, a difference in expected fics posted of approximately 1,800 fics. So many fics were deleted that Video Blogging RPF, which showed an increase of 3,513 last month and this time last year had 3,343 fics posted, only showed an increase of 51 fics.
In the currently airing big fandoms, Hermitcraft's increase of 628 did not reach the previous month's 716 or the month before that's 784, but does beat December's 574. QSMP was also, presumably, hit by the deletion wave, as this month's 391 did not reach the previous month's 729. This marks the fifth month of decline for QSMP.

I dont get the polls, like a bunch of the contestants dont even count, Sneeg is not a minecraft youtuber, neither is Slimecicle, there are just npcs, I also dont really think Aimsey counts as an mcyt either? I mean, I get its fun and games but still :/ why are they even included since they dont really count i dont wanna be a party pooper or killjoy but I just dont get it :(
Like, what were the criteria for adding to the polls?
Im really not trying to be mean or anything, if it comes across that way im sorry
Okay first off, it was purely based on nominations, this is a democratic poll. We put out the nomination criteria, and collated the votes when people interpreted it. If more people had voted Karl Marx, we probably would have put him in, but unfortunately only one person made that joke. 😔
Second of all, I'm fascinated by your critera for what makes a minecraft youtuber. Sneeg has been recently streaming on Origins and uploading the videos to youtube, Slimecicle makes epic scripted minecraft dramas in an interconnected universe, and Aimsey is doing minecraft lore like once a week. If it's just that they do media other than minecraft, I literally just watched a Cleo crafting stream and watched them stream Mass Effect, and Tango streams horror media like once a week, so why didn't you name them?
But either way, it's a moot point, cause this is about characters, not streamers, which is why NPCs were allowed to be nominated. You can play minecraft once, log onto a server, and play an iconic character who'd be eligible to be nominated.

Hello! I've been told to ask you this =D
What do you think about Jimmy as a minecraft player, what is he?
It's for a project =3
ooh a project, how fun :0
i should preface this by saying i’m not the BEST person to give this opinion, cuz despite how much i write jimmy, i uh… don’t actually watch his pov? i haven’t seen any of empires (except the hermit’s crossover in s2), i don’t watch his streams, and i don’t watch the one-off vids he posts on his channel. most of my knowledge of jimmy comes from his appearances in other pov’s life series episodes and how ppl portray him in fandom.
howEVER, that said, i’m curious how my interpretation would line up with other ppl’s. i view minecraft players as generally fitting into a few broad categories- tho there can def be overlap between them or a jack-of-all-trades situation. and this prob applies more to people who actually play minecraft professionally (ie. ‘play video games for a living’) than the casual player (such as myself hagshdha).
builders: have a creative eye and practiced skill in building to the point where they can, generally speaking, throw down a decent build on the fly (things that require a lot of planning/detail work often drafted in creative mode first). have good understanding of achieving a certain shape and color with their block placements. may or may not include terraforming ability. generally drawn to the game’s building aspect and spend a lot of time/care making things look good.
redstoners: have an adequate amount of base knowledge for how most redstone components work and interact with each other, tho they may occasionally still use tutorials or take inspiration from others (can only reinvent the wheel so many times). usually capable of making simple redstone machines/contraptions on the fly. generally drawn to the game by the possibility of farms and automation. some take it to extreme game-breaking lengths (doc).
competitors: have highly-trained skill in areas such as PVP, parkour, and/or any other multiplayer server type minigame. think hypixel and MCC. this isn’t to say they don’t have their own solo worlds for building or other projects, or don’t participate in smps, but their main draw to the game initially was competitive multiplayer and it features heavily on their channels. to me, speed-runners/challenge-seekers are a subcategory of this.
explorer: this type doesn’t actually show up often in popular mcyt bc it’s a largely solitary- and in some ppl’s opinion, boring- experience. but these are the players that spend hours in their solo worlds just traveling around, mining out massive caves, or doing any other kind of repetitive grindy work as a manner of relaxation. some ppl really enjoy this aspect of minecraft and it’s a major draw for them. special mention for kurtjmac, a mcyter who’s spent 13 years and counting just walking to the farlands in an old version of the game (tho he does other things on his channel as well).
and now for what category i think jimmy fits best in (which again, doesn’t mean he can’t build or do other things). i don’t have a good name for it rn so i’m just gonna call it ‘the sillies’ (affectionate).
sillies: above all else, they’re here to have fun. most, if not all, of their content is on multiplayer worlds (both public servers and private smps), and on these worlds they are extremely social, making a concentrated effort to interact with others even if not legitimately roleplaying. high amounts of pranks and hijinks abound, as well as ‘committing to the bit.’ lots of videos feature them doing some kind of funny little challenge, game, or mod with their friends. again, that doesn’t mean they can’t engage w the other aspects of the game or be skilled in those categories, but generally, it’s not their main objective and not how they spend most of their time.
that’s what i’ve got! obviously u could split all of these into many subcategories, and your average player is gonna be fairly well-balanced. but for our pro cubitos, i think this is a nice way to categorizing things (and it at least makes sense in my mind).

I was gonna make a post about how it's so sad that a certain someone destroyed the reputation of mcyt to the point where titans like hermitcraft get tagged as "lame ass Minecraft youtubers" when they constantly revolutionize Minecraft, Minecraft YouTube, and building and redstone. But I think... It's important to point out that even if they didn't, they deserve respect. Even if scar didn't build scarland, even if tango didn't make decked out, even if etho didn't constantly revolutionise redstone, even if tango and impulse didn't invent some of the most important farms out there, even if some of the most iconic Minecraft minigames weren't invented by some of these guys, even if bdubs didn't elevate Minecraft building to an art form - it doesn't. Fukcing. Matter. They deserve respect, because I mean, fucking duh, every human being deserves respect dipshit. Even if they were just dumb guys playing Minecraft doing nothing of note - they would deserve respect not just as human beings but as creators. Especially in MCYT, it feels like to the outside world you need to be a fucking god to earn respect, and I don't think that's right. Even if the hermits had done nothing of note, they would deserve the same respect as any other gaming youtubers. And as much as I can say I'll always hold a grudge against a certain someone to fucking with their reputation - Minecraft, outside of its fans and the circles of mcyt, is still considered lame by the layman. Because it's liked by children - and worse, usually by children around the age of 12, who are all stripped of respect by the masses. There's a lot of intertwined issues at play, but needless to say, it's fucking vile
