[TRANS] 레오(LEO) 1st MINI ALBUM Commentary 'Draw Your Attention'

"I really like and enjoy listening to Leo's voice and the emotions (in his voice)" I was really touched by these words.

Q: What kind of album is CANVAS? Canvas is an painting that is full of only VIXX LEO Jung Taekwoon's color, image and anything I wanted to put in.

Q: The title Touch&Sketch I wrote the lyrics for T&S. It has a dual meaning of the touch b/w people, the touch in love and also the touch when you paint on canvas. One more is to make people feel touched. So by combining all these to make a very sexy song I though of this title.

Q: How did L.E featuring come up. L.E is like a really close younger brother kinda friend. When I wrote the song I felt it would be really cool if she could feature, so I asked her and she happily agreed. Just as I had though her voice and rap complemented the song so well!

Q: You wrote the lyric to all the songs, which one was the hardest? Rather than making the music and writing the lyrics it was a lot harder to write lyrics to match music made by someone else. Composing is a hard job. For T&S even though it's a generic sound, the ideas and feel were all good but there were lots of fixes to be made so it took quiet a long time to complete.

Q: Introduce 꿈 꿈 tells us that what ever our dream is, we need to be more mature toward achieving it, not to get frustrated and to always have a dream. From the music to the lyrics it's a song that contains feelings I treasure so I made it with hopes that it will comfort people.

Free Tempo is about the excitement of new love. I really like R&B so I wanted to try an Acoustic R&B love song.

Q: What do you thing abt the Sexy Leo reputation you have among fans? I'm still a little awkward with titles but I'm really thankful and it also encourages me a lot.

Q: Special prop for concept film "Another Leo" It's made with silicon. Others are afraid when they see it but to me maybe cus it looks like me I didn't feel any different.

Q: Your thought on the first album release? Solo has been a dream of mine since I was 17 so you could say I have achieved another one of my dreams. I'm really honored that I got to produce, compose and make the songs myself and that fans enjoy it, so I feel its my duty to make a really good stage. I hope the promotions will give me the opportunity to return all the love.

Q: While making songs what inspires you most these days? Honestly I don't have anything like that now. I'm always busy promoting and composing, I do try to find inspiration but I think I just don't have time to find it. There are times when I see something and I feel like writing about it though not a lot these days. But if I decide to write a song I keep looking for inspiration and as soon as I find it I get started on it.

Q: What is "music" to leo Music is kinda like a household item. It's like a necessity, when I'm happy, sad, hurt or even sleeping just anytime. Something I can always lean on.

Q: How important is music to the Singer Leo? That a very diff question. Singer Leo has not only music but also the performance and stage to think about. Music is definitely the majority but to the person Jung Taek woon music is the most important since it a part of my daily life.

Q: A theme you want write a song based on? Mom. I definitely want to write a song about my parents.

Q: What do you think about most these days? If I say it in a single word "Complicated". There's work and a lot of things happening so I'm in the middle of organizing my thoughts. I'm sure its the same for everyone but its not easy. Living and going about the day may not seem big but these days I feel the me, who is going through the day is very complex. Later I may be able to tell you i'm happy but now its just complicated.

Q: Are you happy now? When i'm on stage, when I meet fans I'm really happy but there are times when I feel empty. I try to be happy, but I didnt know where to look for it so I used to always worry about it. Now happiness is the fact that I'm eating well, I'm healthy, I'm working so I don't try to find happiness. I used to tell myself that its not enough, that I need to do more, need to improve, was really hard on myself so now I complement myself more, that I worked hard today,I did well today, started this recently but I have started.

Q: What was the most difficult part preparing this album? I was so burdened by having to do broadcast alone and was have a hard day yesterday. Hakyeon texted my saying that 'Taekwoon-ah you are starting anew. I hope you don't feel impatient, it will be fine if you gain just a few people who like the solo artist Leo." Those words gave me a lot of strength and decided that I would just start again and make my way on my own.

Q: Did the members encourage you a lot? Ravi is very emotional when he's emotional, Jaehwanie is a cutie, Hongbinie and hyukie are both curt but even their curt comments tend to be really touching. They would just say "Don't get hurt this time" or "be careful of your ankles" but since I know them I can tell that its just how they show their concern.

Q: Difference in VIXX&LR&LEO? I have to do the ment alone. When we all do it I can choose not to but now I have to memorize the ment and it embarrassing for the ppl filming it is embarrassing for me too if I keep making mistakes. I think I should slowly start getting used to it.

Q: To Starlight Starlight. After 6 years I have come out with my solo, I don't know if you will like it but I made every song with you all in mind so I really hope you like it. I believe I need to do a lot more to be able to reciprocate all your love so I have been thinking about how to do that. When I'm resting, promoting, hurt, winning you guys are always the first to cheer for me and worry for me and i'm grateful to have you guys. I will improve but will always be by you side as the same JTW. Lets go forward together. Always grateful and thank you.

Switching Perspectives - Weekly Reflections / Reading Blog - Week 3

***This is a combination of both the readings and weekly reflections since it was said I could do both, if we’ve done both.

Reflections

Rather than learning about repetition, I learned about something else. Many of the activities we seem to do truly reflect what I already learned in taisha’s, interestingly enough, so I never really have anything to add onto my vocabulary beyond learning that I am improving in finding new ways to approach things when it might have taken me half the performance/activity to do so before.

Regardless, I was hoping to say something in response to the question, “What have you learned from doing repetition yesterday?” I suppose it was a leading question because we went on an enormous discussion on repetition, even going as far as making an entire chart. I was hoping to have at least expressed what I wanted to share at the end, since it was short and not an answer meant to be elaborated upon by my peers.

The one thing I did learn was from the demonstration with ana’s group. I always read about artists going far and beyond by including the audience or changing the perspective of the piece, but it was not until I finally got to see an example of this at work that I was to finally “put a name to a face.” The only way I really imagined ‘audience participation’ is when I would have people come up and teach them some Tahitian or West African, or even have them walk around the performance for each person. While this could basically apply to any other technique-ridden form, the way people can creatively implement audience participation without prompting people to come up--apart from what I had done with the concept(s?) of Body Madness in taisha’s--really put everything in perspective. It was also something I really needed to see because it gave me something to think about for my piece (for UCRiD) that I felt was missing and also gave me something to add to my vocabulary for future reference, now that I understand it.

“Repeating is not a choice for everybody” (a classmate said this)-- I think not

I think there are different ways of repeating beyond movement and routine. Maybe it’s the repeating mindset or beliefs that creates different actions, but the fundamentals from where it comes from is repeating.

*    an odd structure “causes us to speak fast/slow in the wrong places & places emphasis on the wrong syllables when it works ->wrongness makes you prick up your ears just when your ears had felt like giving up’

Reading #3: Thinking Slowness
