Some info dumping and traditional concept arts of my OCs!!
Doodle of my fursona to welcome you down this trail of blabbering if you so choose to continue onwards:D
Tumblr media
These first few sketches are concept pieces for practicing different shapes. I plan to make my OC story a comic, so of course posing and shape consistency is very key:]
They're not rlly specific characters, just good ol' practice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some form of disclaimer ig: the bits of worldbuilding of my story that I am introducing in this post may be similar to Warrior Cats in a way, I definitely take inspiration from WC with this all, but these are not WC OCs in any way.
The 4 "divided" groups call themselves Septs, each group is made of a different breed of an original species I made called "grimalkin" (feline esc animals but each breed has special physical characteristics)
The 4 subspecies of grimalkin who divide themselves are ryfons, koas, lampyridae, and kimaira ("kimair" is the non-plural). They all have different physical characteristics, such as ryfons possess feathery fur and tend to grow larger than the others ; koas have more of a squirrelly and round look to them ; kimaira possess venomous fangs (works similar to a snakes fangs, can sheathe and unsheathe) ; lampyridae are very fox-like in looks rather than feline-esc like the others are. Their Sept is also the only Sept with a monarchy ruling system. (More on the lampyridae Sept, the inner workings of their Sept is very key to the plotline of my story;)
Fun little note as well ~ lampyridae and kimaira have black eyes--or, fully one-colored eyes with no pupils/scleras; like how rodent eyes are:]
×
~ breakoff from topic baby name lore cus yes ~
- ryfon babies are called "kits"
- koa babies are called "fawns"
- kimair babies are called "cubs"
- lampyridae babies are called "nymphs"
×
That's the most notes I will share of the worldbuilding. Now onto some character introductions:D
This rapscallion below is a ryfon by the name of Taika (he/him). He's the main antagonist of my story.
Tumblr media
This lil guy is a koa by the name of Chiryo (he/him). He's close to the main character of my story and a major main side character throughout the story (will probably have an individual post for my MAIN guy. He's a doozie.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This ball of chronic anxiety and heavy insecurity problems is Fawn (he/they ; prefers pronoun shifting)! They're a lampyridae, and of the royal bloodline in his Sept.
Tumblr media
This ones a bit of a rushed sketch, but it's the only one I have of a kimair character. I kinda neglect them a lot lmao even tho I truly love em sm.
This is Goose (she/her), a kimair. She's the youngest of the main characters in my story and is very young throughout the main story so of course this is her as an adult lols. Big buff girlboss, I love her❤️
Tumblr media
I have a LOT more characters than just these guys ofc, this is just an introduction post to get people connected to my OCs. I've been working a lot on these guys for a long while, and the stories coming together so nicely. It's gone through TONS of changes throughout it's lifetime, and I'm very content with where it is now. I hope to soon, in the soon far future at least, finally start putting this universe into production.

Katy my darling <3 I have a very fun ask for you!! What method of arts do each glee characters prefer and what is their favorite thing to create?
oooooo this is a fun ask!
I'm gonna do S2 New Directions for now, but may add S3-6 ND or other characters later 💛 (warning... this is LONG)
Artie: Film. 100% film. He loves using visual media to tell a story, he also really gets into the sound design side too when he learns it in College. He loves making music videos and after Uni that's mostly what he does. He also directs a lot of movie musicals and musical TV shows. Basically he loves making visual media for songs.
Blaine: Performing - mostly singing. He also love writing songs, which we never see in the show but I can imagine him learning about songwriting in NYU and loving it as a way to express his feelings. it's like a step up from using someone else's words to express them.
Brittany: Obviously dancing! I like to think that after marrying Santana she either goes to college for Dance, or maybe owns a dance studio/goes on tour with Mercedes a lot (with Santana as a guest singer) She really loves teaching little kids how to dance, she knows how to interact with them on their level and the kids love her.
Finn: Singing? I honestly can't think about what he likes. Like singing is the closest thing. He sings in the shower a lot and obviously he loves singing on stage. But he's not that much of an art person outside of that. He likes consuming it but not making it.
Kurt: Sewing, obviously, as well as sketching clothes. He loves making accessories for friends - scrunchies for the girls, bow ties for Blaine, a dog bandana for Sam's golden retriver (because you know he gets one) etc. - but he also loves designing and making costumes for small productions. Maybe he volunteers/works with a small theatre troop and makes & designs all of the costumes while also performing.
Mercedes: Mercedes likes making cards for everyone for Christmas and Birthdays. It started because she'd forgotten to buy a card for someone but had some card and pretty pens on hand and it spiralled from there. She now owns a fancy die pressing kit and lots of card toppers and pretty glitter pens and washi tape and all of that. She has a small kit she brings on all of her tours, it helps relax her after a show - making cards for the crew as a thank you/maybe selling some for charity because she makes so much? When she finally gets back together with Sam they both work together to make Christmas cards from them with cute pictures of themselves in terrible christmas jumpers and their golden retriver in a Kurt made bandana and later their kids in matching outfits.
Mike: Like Brittany he's a dancer first and formost. That's his art. He later goes on to be a professional on Dancing With The Stars where he reconnects with Matt on set (maybe they even get together in the end and the DWTS fans love their relationship and their jokingly competative instagram stories) He loves creating a story with only movement and music. Mike also really likes doodling.
Puck: Photography. I don't know why but I see Puck loving to take pictures of places he visits in his travels. He also scrapbooks but only Quinn knows that - he has a whole scrapbook of pictures of Beth that Shelby sends them and later makes them for all of his other kids too, and he has, like, travel journals and scrapbooks of roadtrips he's been on. Basically he's a Bullet Journal guy. He really likes washi tape and pretty papers and stickers and what-not. He will never admit this.
Quinn: Quinn's a writer. In my head she goes on to write a book that's losely based on her high-school years and it becomes a best seller and is later adapted into a Netflix series directed by Artie. I just like the idea! Maybe Rachel plays, like, the Miss Pillsbury character... or Terri! Or maybe Shelby? I dunno one of the adult characters.
Rachel: Obviously her art of choice is performing. It's singing and acting and standing on a stage or a set and making the words in her script her own. Also scrapbooking/moodboard making.
Santana: Santana likes knitting. She won't admit it but she likes knitting little plushies for Brittany, her favourite is a little bi flag coloured bunny. She makes knitted plushies and blankets for all of her friends when they have kids but she never tells them she made them - everyone knows though, they're too perfect for the couple/person (a cat in a scarf or a toy poodle in a bow tie for Klaine, a teddy adorned with gold stars for St. Berry etc. etc.)
Sam: This could be an essay for me (and kinda is opps). Sam is the Art nerd of the group and tries every type of art he possibly can. Macaroni art, illustration, digital art, traditional art, crafts, pumpkin carving, glass blowing, handlettering, graphic design, knitting, crochet, rag rugs, sewing, card making, pyrography, etc. He will try everything he can in terms of visual art. He doesn't, however, write because dyslexia, and he can't wrap him mind around, like editing and film stuff - he does try though because why not. He also really likes songwriting and music arranging.
All of this i'm trying to do as close to canon as i can but going off of canon let's say Sam goes to Parsons for illustration because he's so good at art, he stays with Mercedes in her brownstone and they never break up, after graduating he becomes a comic book illustrator (which i believe is literally a minor at Parsons, so let's say he does a Major in Fine Art/Illustration with a Minor in Comic illustration) and illustrates a run of Young Avengers comics and becomes a fan favourite artist.
In canon, however, he loves teaching the new generation of New Directions but he misses art because he doesn't have that much time anymore (because being the teacher of the new directions is a full time job, apparently, judging by the lack of adult friends or hobbies Will has lol) he loves loves loves arranging music, however, and that becomes the type of art he does the most. He does doodle a lot during faculty meeting (also he does a music teaching certification during his first few years of coaching the nNDs) and goes all out with pumpkin carving at Halloween, and loves decorating his apartment and the choir room at Christmas. He loves doing sets for the musical (and has a lot of fun staging it too) and helps out with the decorations for Prom.
Basically Sam loves to be creative in any way he can. He loves making things, whatever they may be.
Tina: Tina writes fanfiction and draws fanart. She's a nerd 100%, she watched Supernatural, she was a SuperWhoLockian, she loves Merlin, she's loves Twilight but more ironically than, say, Mercedes, and prefers books like Morganville Vampires or PC Cast's series that I've forgotten the name of. She loves the Hunger Games and Firefly and Star Trek and Star Wars. She definately has a tumblr. She mostly writes all sorts of fanfiction and is a huge name in the Supernatural fandom. Only Sam and Blaine know about all of this becuase they found one of her Star Wars fanfictions and in an authors note she said something that they recognised - idk she ranted about Santana or Rachel or something.
This was so much fun omg, thank you for the ask Myle 💛

Felinette Month 2020 - Day 12: Reunion
The prompts on @felinettenovember are gold and everyone should check out what the others are doing for this month!
Theirs are also most likely on time, and this one is only 3 minutes away from being posted on the wrong day... but it’s still the right day for me!
Approximately 3100 words of absolute Lila salt. Her character is poorly enough written in the show that I had to make her villainy almost cartoonish to a certain degree.
Also before anyone takes my word for it at the silk part, just know I have the bare minimum of knowledge about the intricacies of fabric as I’m just a data analyst. I did however read a really interesting article earlier this year discussing the difference in modern and ancient forms of fabrics (it was specifically discussing cotton, if I remember correctly) and how industrialization of fabric production had drastically reduced both the initial quality of the fabric and the durability. Which they were using as an explanation of why it’s still possible to find cloth artifacts in archeology, whereas it’s suspected that the “same” fabric now wouldn’t have survived due to the poorer quality. So I willy-nilly applied this logic to silk weaving. If you are an expert in this stuff and want to pass along actual knowledge, I’d love to hear about it.
Marinette had found that going to university for fashion design was both easier and harder than it had been doing it during school. There were similarities with the existence of homework and specific class times to schedule around. Working at a smaller fashion house had been another beast entirely. Marinette had been offered a 5 year contract as the only pupil to the head designer, working both with the team of designers and working apart from them. Her ideas first needed to gain the approval from the head designer before she could put them through peer review with the team. She was required to have her designs be closer to a final product before she would get approval to proceed to peer review than the designs of many designers on the team had after multiple reviews. Marinette kept her head high, as her designs often went through fewer changes in the review stage as a result of this additional standard.
However with less than 10 designers doing all stages of the process, from researching ideas and sketching to actually assembling the final product and altering them for the models that would wear it, they were always busy. As a result, Marinette found herself more devoted to work outside of their standard hours, sketching variations on most outfits for potential changes she thought may be suggested while she sat at home.
At 25, Marinette found herself married to her career, with only two nights per week that she had set aside for her friends and her family and refused to budge on that time. This had left dating relatively untouched outside of some short high school relationships and a few first dates that never went further.
Alya never could understand why Marinette was so content on her own. She married Nino at 22 and had been happy in her marriage, but she was able to have her career and her relationship. Sometimes her journalism interfered but often she would just finish typing up any articles or notes she had while home and returned her attention to Nino.
Marinette often didn't disconnect from her sketchpad until late in the evening and then she simply wanted to eat, relax a little, and sleep. Dating required too much effort and time during the week and she only had so much time on the weekends, especially because of the occasional work event on a Saturday night.
This Saturday was one such event, a black tie party in a ballroom, where many designers were getting together under the pretext of a party, however most realized it was an important networking event. Designers would be discussing the styles that were in currently, some boasting about what they expected the next trend to be, and many would try to woo the various models in attendance to sign on for a certain number of shoots or shows in the upcoming seasons.
Marinette knew that she had to show her best at this, as she was entering the fifth year of her contract and would need to get her options in order. She was determined to have at least one outside offer waiting at the end of her contract, so she felt more free to decide if her current company was the best fit.
She had invited Alya over before to help her solidify her outfit by reassuring her choice in dress and accessories, as well as providing suggestions with make-up choices as requested. Marinette really needed a hype woman to get her in the right mindset for dealing with pretentious models and designers for her entire evening.
The ballroom hosting this event was as decedent as Marinette had anticipated and each designer eyed the others' appearance critically. Many of the compliments bestowed on others were backhanded, in the most subtle manner possible. The more inexperienced often missed the jabs but Marinette had expected them. Her mentor had arrived shortly before her and gestured for her to join his conversation upon seeing her entrance.
For nearly an hour, her mentor paraded her around, introducing her to each designer he personally knew and discussing with them her strengths. She was grateful for his support when he could have easily left her to flounder. The designers that had taken a liking to her brought others to meet her the moment he left her side to fetch a new drink. After dealing with their undivided attention for a while, she tried to find a polite way to excuse herself so she could breathe and let her face rest a moment.
The opportunity to slip away came when Gabriel Agreste entered, accompanied by his assistant and three others. The designers commented on his boldness to bring three young models and speculation started about which of the blond men was Gabriel's heir and if they knew the woman with them. He had brought Lila, Adrien, and Felix. She should’ve expected to see at least two of those three here. Time had allowed her to forget about their presence in this world.
Marinette murmured to the closest person that she was going to grab herself a beverage, then quietly slipped away while the designers speculated amongst themselves. She wouldn't contribute with an explanation of any person in that group, let alone bring an opportunity for her past relationships with them to come up.
She instead had snuck around, hiding amongst the various crowds filling the room to get to the hallway where the bathrooms were located. Rather than going into the bathroom, she walked around a turn in the hallway past them and stopped, leaning against the wall to take some deep breaths and think.
If Lila was here, she was definitely still employed with Gabriel and in good standing. She had cut contact with Alya and Nino after the graduation day incident so Marinette hadn't heard much about her since then. Luka didn't talk much about Juleka outside of their time together at the houseboat or in Kitty Section, but Marinette was sure he wouldn’t have let any news of her reach Marinette anyway. Mr. "High-road" Agreste was here so she would likely need to stay hidden or leave so he didn't try to be overly friendly with her. She didn't want to deal with his attempts to catch up and accusations about not staying in touch, even though he hadn't been a great friend of hers after trying to convince her to be a doormat, even if it nearly got her akumatized. Ice King Felix was a wild card. In school he had been a strange mixture of harsh and quietly supportive (primarily in dealing with Lila or Chloe). If Marinette had to deal with any of those three, he would be her preferred. He had potential to be on her side simply on the conditions that Lila still despised her and that Felix still disliked Lila or/and Adrien. Regardless, Marinette preferred if she could just make it through the night without needing to speak with any of them. Slowly she was considering going back to attempt navigating the party. Pushing herself off the wall, she took one more deep breath with her eyes shut.
And promptly fell to the floor due to the unexpected force of something ramming into her. Her head bounced off the carpeted floor and she felt like her brain was trying to restart.
“Oh, I’m sorry! I didn’t see you around the corner and ran into you. Are you alright?” The man leaned down next to her, while Marinette blinked a few times, trying to get her bearings. Then she slowly started to sit up. He spoke again, “Do you need to have your head examined? It looks like you may have bumped it and messed up your hair.”
Her hand came up and ran across the back of her head, over the hair, still blinking as her brain started running again. She turned to look at him and felt a little bit of dismay.
“Felix. I’m okay. My head is just pounding a little bit. I should really check to see what I need to do to make myself presentable again,” Marinette slowly moved towards getting up, hand reaching out to the wall. Felix took her hand and offered his other for more support. She took it without thinking, balancing herself as she stood. Then she turned her body, releasing his hands, and leaned against the wall again. “Thanks. It is Felix right?” Maybe if I play my cards right, he won’t recognize me and will think I just know from his ads.
“Yes Marinette. One and the same,” he smirked at her efforts and she groaned inside. “Did you know that you’re the hot topic in that room? Well actually you’re right behind whether Adrien or I will inherit Gabriel. As if the man is even considering retiring at this point.” Felix leaned one shoulder against the wall next to her, grinning like a cat.
“It seems that you made a splash socially, then disappeared right as Gabriel Agreste showed up. They’re speculating and Lila seems to have convinced enough of them that the two of you are friends. She’s so sure you have a surprise planned for her, even if she hasn’t figured out that you’re the same person yet. That only brought more speculation as to why you aren’t working at Gabriel. ‘Is it perhaps because she has an indecent relationship with an heir? Or is she the victim of nepotism?’ If you don’t make an appearance again soon, these rumors may live on past the evening.” His eyes had narrowed slightly as he brought up Lila and the rumors starting around her, trying to read the slightest reaction. Marinette just deflated. She had just been ready to go back before their collision and now she just wanted to curl up in a ball. With this last statement, she let out a little sound of exhaustion.
“Why did she have to be here? And how is it that even the people that are used to dealing with snakes don’t recognize her as one?” she groaned out, hands pressing her eyes. After a moment she straightened her back against the wall, breathed deeply and sighed. “Alright. We’re adults. Might as well act like it.”
“You’re going back now?” Felix stood, sounding more curious than before. Marinette had stood straight up, and was taking a step from the wall to walk back into the main hallway and looking at Felix as she replied.
“Of course I’m going to go back. I’m a professional that doesn’t lie and pretend to get places. I do the hard things and succeed--” she raised her eyebrows and smirked back at him “--Of course I need to fix my hair first, since you messed it up. Are you going to hide here longer?”
Felix faintly blushed at her expression as she told him he messed her hair up and thought about another way he could mess it up. As she slowly walked he turned to follow her. “Did you have a companion with you tonight? It’s not uncommon for designers to bring one…”
“I did not. I have been networking. Why do you ask?” Marinette slowly stepped towards the restroom door, nearly laughing at his stalling tactics.
“Would you like one when you’re finished fixing yourself up?” Marinette couldn’t believe how warm he was being with her, even with his mocking way of warning her what she was walking into. Is this really the Ice King I knew in school?
“I guess you’ll have to wait if you want to see…” Marinette pushed into the bathroom, walking up to a mirror. Luckily my hair wasn’t too extravagant and the back is just a little messed up. With a little bit of water on her fingers and some adjustments of her bobby pins, her hair looking untouched and she was exiting the bathroom.
Felix had moved to stand against the wall near the bathroom, and straightened to join her. Marinette liked the way he was acting with her now and made a split second decision that at worst, she didn’t need to keep him around if he changed his tune. She could push him back out of her life. She reached a hand out to beckon him and he offered her an arm. Their strides matched as they walked back to the party.
Whispers started in the groups closest to the door as they saw their up-and-coming sunshine designer enter on the arm of the model known for his aloofness and cold professionalism. Felix’s face slipped back into it’s icy indifference, looking harshly at specific individuals that dared to make too inappropriate of a comment in his earshot. Marinette smiled and nodded at different individuals that she hadn’t spoken enough with at length. A small squeeze to his arm and twist of her head had the pair walking towards one of Marinette’s first choices for her next employer.
Other groups had taken notice of the pair, drawing more eyes, and conversations turned to theories about their relationship. The two ignored stares and managed to strike up a pleasant conversation with a woman that could drastically improve her prospects. With the increasing curiosity of most guests, one young woman noticed and began to formulate a plan.
“Marinette! Over here! It’s me! Why didn’t you tell your best friend that you were coming?” Lila loudly exclaimed as she began prancing across the room and waving a hand wildly like a child trying to catch attention. Her dramatics went unacknowledged as Felix used his most winning smile, describing Marinette’s designs throughout their school years and then drawing attention to the dress she was currently wearing. She couldn’t help but blush that he had recognized her craftsmanship even after years apart. The woman seemed to be swept up in the warmth and friendliness he was using, as well as the atmosphere those two formed around their group. Others paid particular attention to the hand Felix had rested on her side.
Marinette had been gaining attention up to this point, however the entire party noticed the atmosphere tense as Lila appeared to trip, right as she was about to reach the designer. Felix moved behind Marinette, having her twirl in front of him to show off the patterns embroidered into her dress, and felt the liquid on his back before Lila collided with him. Felix had made note of Lila as he was gesturing to Marinette’s dress and guessed at her plan with a fair bit of accuracy. Marinette was completely dry and far enough forward to avoid being bumped by Felix when the force from Lila’s impact pushed him. The icy glare returned to his face as he turned to deal with her.
A few men from nearby moved over to help Lila, who faked a sob story about how clumsy she was, because she was just so excited to see Marinette since “our schedules have just been so busy that we haven’t gotten to see each other!” when Felix interrupted her.
“Strange that you say that. I actually remember Marinette getting a restraining order on you after graduation, when you tried to poison her food. You claimed to be allergic to shellfish and said she was trying to slip clam broth into your food. However you had the broth container in your bag, it was slipped into her food, and according to her up-to-date school medical records, she’s severely allergic to mollusks so she wouldn’t come near the container. At the time, you were supposedly diagnosed with a disorder that causes you to compulsively lie. Regardless, the courts didn’t seem to believe that a disorder like that, which was unknown to and unheard of by medical professionals, wouldn’t have been grounds to explain trying to harm her and granted the order. Do you not remember that?” Felix recited the story almost impassively, as though it was simply a reminder of what she ate for breakfast, however he gave a mock confused look with his rhetorical question. The crowd had gathered around with her fall and were well within earshot as Felix described one of the worst incidents of Marinette’s life. The pale expression she wore and the Lila’s furious expression as he described it convinced even those that would’ve been inclined to side with Lila.
With one final look of distaste, Felix turned to Marinette and reached for her hand. The onlookers were surprised at the obvious tenderness as he spoke to her, “We should get you away from here. Do you want to stay at the party and talk to some more people or would you prefer I escort you home? We can see about getting some contact information before we leave, if you’d like.”
The room was deathly silent, even Lila having the sense to wait, in case she broke the tense quiet that had formed. After a deep breath and a shaky smile directed at Felix, Marinette turned back to the woman she had been speaking with before Lila’s act and politely said, “I enjoyed our conversation and hope we have the opportunity to speak again soon. I would love to hear more about your work to more effectively create silk patterns by hand. I know you said it before but hand weaved silk really is so much nicer than the machine weaved and I’ve read that it’s much more durable. Thank you for your time this evening!”
Felix moved to her side and Marinette slipped her hand into his before stepping towards the coat room. With coat in hand, the pair swept out of the ballroom to leave behind the drama of the evening.
Suddenly the room burst into chaos and Lila was escorted to a private room to wait for Gabriel to decide how to handle this revelation. He knew he would lose the respect of his peers if he kept a young woman on staff that they all knew had tried to murder another one. The cherry on that cake would be that the would-be victim is an up-and-coming designer that nearly all were considering making an offer to. It was clear to him that Ms. Rossi would be fired. Now it’s just a matter of the other clean up that would follow. Additionally, it seemed Ms. Dupain-Cheng also had a close relationship with his son, considering the show that he was putting on since they arrived. He would have to dig into his sons’ involvements with the designer's misfortunes, as that would impact how they looked to the public. There was one other aspect that Gabriel Agreste was rather certain of, one of his son’s was smitten with a good match and if they were happily married, it would help their careers immensely.
Marinette’s night out ended with a private car pulling up to her building, a kiss placed on Felix’s cheek, and her hand slipping a piece of paper with her phone number into his jacket pocket. She was pleased to find he messaged her immediately to make sure she made it into her apartment alright.
Felix was too lovestruck to sleep that night.

I was so inspired by this one picture of a Cat in the late 30′s - whose owner had lovingly written “Our [cat name]” in pen on the photo itself, that I just had to draw a version for a beloved Engine 💙🥺😊
I’m partially copying the expression the cat had, Thomas himself may be midblink or simply not expecting a camera when he looked ahead. I imagine he’d complain about the face he was pulling when he later gets to see the photograph, and yet someone’s kept it, written the captions and put it in a frame...! 😸💖🚂
Flat, colour ver and inspirational Cat below the cut! in original post please click the link!! lol 🐱

Redward day!! Redward day with a bit of Fanart for Jobey’s lov-er-ly scene of the two lads~! 💞🚂😸
I had no idea what I wanted to draw for this day, but really didn’t wanna miss it... so while I’m glad I went with the idea, I do wanna revisit this in the future with features like ....rails! and shading and better perspective =w=; Two Engines at an unconventional angle is very tricky ^^;;
This version of their first meeting is yet to be topped and it will always live rent free in my head as the default canon 🥰✨💕

Short Stumpy Boy....
My own spin on the world’s most famous Tank Engine! I’ve seen and enjoyed many, many other takes, and lots of those have really cute ideas. Seems to be a fairly even split between his wearing Work Clothes or Formal Attire, so with my take I tried to do something different, maybe a bit more modern and a lot more casual, but hopefully Trendy! ✨
I absolutely wanna do more down the line... I actually had the coloured sketch done as more a concept than Final Product, but I’ve no idea when I’ll be able to draw a neater version so here he is! Featuring a tiny selection of iconic lines and moments ;3c

So, ya’ll know about the Isle of Man having a unique native Cat Breed, the Manx? I’m here to propose there’s a similar situation on Sodor, which I call the Small-Eared Sudrian (Suddies or Small-ees as an affectionate nickname)
A breed of Domestic Cat, Suddies are defined by the physical characteristics of small (but still upright and triangular!) ears and long, fluffy tails. Contrasted with the tailless Manx cat, these look much more like a ‘normal’ moggy, but the Suddies have a unique temperament that causes them to be highly tolerant, if not clearly preferring, the hustle and bustle and the steam and smoke of Sodor’s famous Locomotives.
It’s theorised they were brought in to Engine Sheds to keep mice populations in check, though the claims are disputed by those who swear up and down that the cats just appeared one day, drawn instead to the warmth of the Iron Horses.
The Sudrian cat breed favours noisy environments and high temperatures, hence they are more of a pest in the sheds than the actual mice! Indeed, the difficulty in removing a cat from a prime position draped across footplates and shooing them from a Tank Engine’s bunker has been cited as reason for minor delays.
Very hardy and unlikely to be spooked with wheeshing steam or piercing whistles, some Cat Fanciers have despaired at how their Pedigree Queen insists on getting covered in coal dust. It is advised owners comb the cat to help prevent them swallowing soot that settles in their fluffy tails. More recently, health concerns have lead to attempts to keep the cats more distant from the Engines, but the Cats consistently have other ideas.
The cats are generally placid and can often be heard purring. It appears most of the Engines themselves are interested in the Suddies and get moody if the cats are chased away by human workers. A tender engine who refused to be named was most displeased when a cat was wrenched off from curled around his lamp iron and there was a personnel change shortly afterwards. Engines at rest sometimes compete with each other to coax a cat to sit on them to see who can charm more. The record is rumoured to be anywhere from 7 to 13 (in which a mother cat brought her kittens inside a cab), though this is highly disputed among the NWR fleet.
Suddies do have the sense to stay off the tracks and only build up numbers in sheds and smaller stations. The closest any have brought to an incident was the aforementioned upset engine, and another event where a bunker stowaway was only spotted in between stations on the Ffarquhar line, so the cat was kept in the Guard’s Van for the rest of the journey. The Guard in question took the cat with him upon retirement.

(This is based off the lovely prompt you gave me a while ago, and I decided to incorporate it into the kid!verse. Khaleel is five years old now.)
Part 14 of Jimercury Kid series
Freddie’s hands were shaking as he held the wrapped package in his hand and he cursed himself internally, wishing his nerves would settle long enough for him to just open the door and give Jim his damn present. He had never been this apprehensive about giving someone a gift before; he usually couldn’t wait to surprise his loved ones, to see the absolute delight on their faces when they unwrapped the paper and saw what he had bought them. It was usually something expensive, something unobtainable to them, something grandiose that only someone with his paycheque could afford.
That’s what everyone wanted, right? Big, expensive presents?
Not Jim, apparently.
Jim was a simple man. That’s part of the reason why Freddie had fallen so hard for him, aside from his unmeasurable kindness and rugged good looks, of course. And being a simple man, he preferred the simpler things in life; he appreciated the lavish gifts and parties that Freddie treated him to, of course, but Freddie knew fully well that he could have been a road sweeper and Jim would still be in love with him. That’s the kind of person his husband was.
Which was precisely why Freddie was in the predicament he was in now.
--
He had been trying to figure out what to get Jim for his birthday for weeks, enlisting the help of Phoebe and Mary to scout out all the local department stores in search of the perfect gift. Phoebe found a nice pair of garden shears, which would come in useful, given that Jim’s current ones were old and rusting and Jim was always talking about replacing them. Practical, thought Freddie, but not exactly the most personal of gifts. Mary found a lovely ceramic cat ornament, its features hand painted by the artist; Jim would love it, Freddie knew, but he had already bought him a similar gift years before. In the end, Phoebe and Mary purchased the presents to give Jim themselves and the search continued.
It was their son who ended up inspiring Freddie, though that was hardly surprising because Khaleel was always inspiring him. Freddie had come home from a long day at the studio and found the little boy painting at the kitchen table with Phoebe, old newspapers spread out to make sure he didn’t make a mess. They had been at it for a while, judging by how many paintings there were scattered around; paintings of flowers, and dinosaurs and, of course, every one of the cats with their names scribbled underneath in felt tip.
‘These are lovely, Bijou.’ Freddie beamed, after Phoebe had excused himself to wash the paint off his hands. ‘You’re so talented. We should hang them up in your room.’
Khaleel nodded enthusiastically, adding one final dab of paint to his wonky picture of Garden Lodge before setting it beside the others. ‘Daddy said you paint too, Baba.’
‘Did he now?’
‘Yeah. He showed me a painting of Delilah you did. It was pretty.’
Freddie couldn’t help but roll his eyes fondly. He had thought he’d thrown out the unfinished portrait of his favourite cat, but he should have known Jim had held onto it. ‘Baba doesn’t really have time to paint anymore, darling. I’m too busy with my music.’
Khaleel looked disappointed. He glanced down at his messy fingers and began to fiddle with them. ‘Your painting made Daddy smile so much, Baba. You should do it again. It’s pretty.’
Freddie was at a loss for words. He had always loved art and still found himself doing the odd sketches and doodles now and then; but painting was something he had given up long ago in favour of singing. He simply didn’t have the time or the patience to commit to it. But Khaleel’s words were now engrained in his mind.
‘I’ll think about it, Bijou.’ He said softly, before leaning down to pick the child up. ‘Come on, you’re going to need a nice, warm bubble bath to get all this paint off you.’
He smiled as Khaleel squealed with excitement. (1/2)
It had taken Freddie a while to figure out what exactly he was going to paint. He still had the old brushes and materials Phoebe and Joe had bought him years ago, when he was ill and had temporarily been inspired to try his hand at art again; but as he sat there, staring at the blank canvas in front of him, he realised he had no idea what he intended to make for his husband.
He considered finishing the painting of Delilah but couldn’t summon up the motivation to continue it. He tried doing a landscape of the garden, but after a few attempts on some scrap paper, he gave up and decided to stick to what he knew best – portraits.
It was only when he leaned back in his seat and surveyed the room a moment that his eye fell upon the large photo frame he kept beside his bed; the one of himself, Jim and Khaleel, professionally taken a year before. There was a copy of it hanging up in the lounge, over the fireplace, but Freddie always kept the original right by his bed, so it was the first thing he woke up to every morning. Safe to say, of all the hundreds of photographs that lived in Garden Lodge, this one was by far his favourite. He and his two favourite boys. His perfect family.
Without giving it a second thought, he picked up his brush and began to paint.
------
It had been two long weeks of staying up late and sneaking around to make sure Jim didn’t catch him, but on the eve of his husband’s birthday, Freddie’s portrait was finally complete, and he carefully wrapped it in brown paper in preparation for the party the next day. He was satisfied with the finished product, and yet, he couldn’t help but feel his gut twist with uncertainty as he stored the painting away in a drawer to keep it from prying eyes. He knew there wasn’t a materialistic bone in Jim’s body but… what if he didn’t like the gift? Phoebe and Mary had bought him such lovely things, what if Jim was disappointed when he got to Freddie’s?
Thoughts like that were why Freddie was now standing outside the door to the lounge, trying to gather the courage to go back in. He had excused himself under the guise of getting another bottle of wine and had quickly darted up to the bedroom to collect the package and bring it down. Taking a deep breath, he finally pushed open the door and re-joined the others, who were already sitting down to start opening Jim’s presents.
‘Mary, I love it!’ Jim smiled widely as he examined the ceramic cat, turning it over in his hands before carefully placing it on the coffee table beside the garden shears Phoebe had gifted him. ‘It’s beautiful. Thank you so much.’
Mary smiled back, ‘you’re welcome, Jim.’ And they leaned forward to give each other a kiss on the cheek.
Freddie’s heart fluttered in his chest. Mary hadn’t been very supportive of his relationship with Jim at the start, most likely out of overprotectiveness and jealousy. But once they adopted Khaleel, she finally had to accept that Freddie had found the love of his life and it was time for her to move on. She seemed a much happier person for it. It touched Freddie to see her and Jim gradually becoming good friends.
Finally, it was Freddie’s turn to present his gift. Despite his best efforts, he still couldn’t help shaking slightly as he watched Jim slowly tear off the paper. Maybe this was a mistake. Maybe he should have gotten Jim a new suit. Or a pair of cufflinks. Or-
‘Freddie…’ Jim sounded breathless and when Freddie looked up, he could see the Irishman’s eyes were sparkling with tears. ‘Freddie, did you paint this?’
The singer nodded, his mouth dry. ‘Do… do you like it?’
His answer was Jim leaning over and pressing their mouths together in a passionate kiss. When they pulled away, the tears in Jim’s eyes had spilled down his cheeks. ‘Sweetheart, it’s beautiful. It’s amazing, it’s perfect.’
Jim wasn’t usually one for PDA, but he was so overwhelmed in that moment, he couldn’t stop himself from kissing every inch of Freddie’s face, while their guests admired the gift that had enthralled him. It was a painting of Freddie, Jim and Khaleel, almost an exact copy of the family portrait hanging up above the fireplace except they were surrounded by flowers; yellow freesias, azaleas, and Khaleel’s favourite, Eden roses, all painted in watercolour.
When Khaleel saw it, he almost fell off Phoebe’s lap in excitement. ‘Baba painted me! Baba painted me!’
After the party was over and their friends had gone home, Jim snuck up behind his husband as the singer was placing the canvas on the mantlepiece and wound his arms around his waist. ‘So, this is why you wouldn’t come to bed all those nights? You were working on this?’
Freddie nodded, leaning back into his husband’s embrace. ‘I was going to buy you something, but I know how you always feel guilty when I spoil you. I wanted to give you something personal, that I made with my own two hands. Even if it isn’t perfect…’
He felt Jim kiss his ear, his thick Irish accent murmuring softly, ‘it’s the greatest gift anyone’s ever given me, sweetheart. And the best thing about it is that it came straight from your heart. I love it and I’m going to keep it with me. Always.’ (2/2)
--------------------------------------------------
OMG THIS IS PERFECT😭😭😭 This is the best interpretation of the prompt, MY HEART😭😭
Call me dumb, but whenever I'd think of Freddie doing something for Jim, it'd always be related to music. Until now, I had never considered art as one of the possible ways in which Freddie could've expressed his love for his husband. But this... this is so beautiful, oof.
I genuinely marvel at your ability to convey so many emotions in these short drabbles. You managed to portray Freddie's insecurities, his want to please his husband and do something special, his nervousness and fear so brilliantly. And Jim's reaction was so sweet🥺 This was truly such a special gift for him, and for their family, I am crying😭
Thank you so much for this, anon💙💙

Yet again ranking the 5 animes I’ve watched most recently
After losing the will to just sit down and watch it for quite a while, I’ve finally gotten through 5 anime series yet again, and, as is tradition for me by now, I’ve decided to just type out my thoughts and rankings of them, with my first two posts of this nature being here and here. As usual, this is just my personal thoughts, and the only other thing worth noting before I start is that, unlike last time, I do think everything listed here is at least decent on its own. With that, I’ll just get to it. 5. Robotics;Notes
Tumblr media
Number of episodes: 22. Language options: dub and subs available. Streaming availability: Funimation. Robotics;Notes is an adaptation of a visual novel, which I actually just wrote a review on, which can be found here. Long story short, it’s the third entry in the Science Adventure series, the same series Steins;Gate is part of, unknown to most people, with Robotics;Notes technically being the sequel to it. Originally aired in 2012, the same year as the visual novel was released, and made by Production I.G, Robotics;Notes is in an interesting middle ground between the acclaimed and popular Steins;Gate animes and the downright awful and obscure Chaos;Head and Chaos;Child animes, and until 2020 was the only option those who didn’t speak Japanese had to experience it at all. Since I went into so much detail in said visual novel review, I’m mostly going to focus on how the anime holds up both by itself and as an adaptation. Ever since its creation nearly ten years ago, the dream of the Chuo Tanegashima High Robotics Research Club has been to finish Gunbuild-1, a lifesize recreation of Gunvarrel, the titular mecha of an insanely popular anime that’s credited with starting a “robot boom” within Japan, and the club’s current president, Akiho Senomiya, the little sister of the club’s founder, Misaki Senomiya, is extremely determined to see this dream achieved. Unfortunately for her, the club has fallen on hard times, with its funding being cut, its advisor being completely unreliable, and the few other members it has, namely Kaito Yashio, Subaru Hidaka, Junna Daitoku, and Kona Furugoori, aka Frau Koujiro, being quite difficult in their own ways, and often more than Akiho can handle. While Akiho puts her all into finally bringing the club to greatness, the otherwise apathetic Kaito finds himself involved with a mysterious AI called Airi, who exists within the augmented reality app IRUO. Airi’s creator, the deceased Kou Kimijima, turns out to have also created several AR annotations scattered throughout Tanegashima, titled the Kimijima Reports, which warn of a grand conspiracy that will utterly devastate humanity if unopposed. I’m not the most unbiased viewer, since I had played, and enjoyed, the visual novel months before watching this anime, but generally, it’s actually an enjoyable time. Some of Robotics;Notes’ biggest strengths were always its cast of characters and lighter tone, and for the most part, the anime preserves both well, keeping it mostly silly, but endearing early on. The artstyle actually matches up fairly well with the VN’s CGs, and the dub, which I watched just to spice things up, since I already knew the Japanese voice cast was quite good, is overall solid, with Clifford Chapin as Kaito, Lindsay Seidel as Akiho, and Monica Rial as Junna especially sticking out to me. As an adaptation, on the other hand, it falls short in quite a few places, namely when it comes to characterization. While obviously, no adaptation could feasibly fit in every detail from its source material, the Steins;Gate anime managed to preserve almost all of its cast’s characterization, whereas in Robotics;Notes, several characters lose prominent details to their backstories or personal conflicts, or act differently in scenes unrelated to that, making quite a few of them come off different. While instances of the latter case, such as Junna coming off as less shy and hesitant, don’t necessarily worsen anything for the most part, the former definitely does, as it makes the affected characters much less developed and interesting. Nobody suffers from this worse than Kaito himself, who loses most of his backstory, motivations, and arc, to the point of one of his best moments being changed from something intentional to completely accidental, with the end result making him come off as a completely different character, and an inferior one, at that. Additionally, around episode 16, the anime starts diverging pretty significantly from the VN, and not in ways that are improvements, to the point it even leaves a few otherwise preserved scenes in earlier episodes without context. Overall, I can imagine the Robotics;Notes anime still being a decent, if unremarkable watch on its own, and was certainly an interesting and fun way to reexperience the story, and definitely fares better than many visual novel adaptations, but I can’t quite say I’d recommend it. If Robotics;Notes interests you, the visual novel is very much preferred. 4. Nichijou
Tumblr media
Number of episodes: 26. Language options: dub and subs available. Streaming options: Funimation. Here we have one of the most acclaimed anime comedies out there, an adaptation of Keiichi Arawi’s surreal sketch comedy manga series, produced by Kyoto Animation, a name that’ll be showing up here again later. Nichijou mainly focuses on two different trios of characters. There’s the ordinary high school girls Yuuko Aioi, a rather dim and reckless girl with terrible luck, Mio Naganohara, the most relatively normal one of the cast, whenever she’s not having explosive freak outs that involve beating people up, and Mai Minakami, a stoic girl who enjoys messing with people just for their reactions. On the other hand, there’s the far less ordinary Shinonome Laboratories trio of Professor Shinonome, an 8 year old girl who happens to be capable of building incredibly advanced machines, Nano Shinonome, a robot built by the Professor who desperately desires a normal girl more than anything, and Sakamoto, their pet cat who, thanks to a special scarf also made by the Professor, is capable of talking. The series focuses on their would-be ordinary lives, were it not for the seemingly daily chaos they get involved in, from witnessing the school principal wrestle a wild deer, to being trapped in an elevator for hours, to the school science teacher attempting to capture Nano for study. It also follows the antics of several other side characters, such Koujiro Sasahara, the seemingly upper class student who is actually just the son of a family of farmers, to Misato Tachibana, a very typical tsundere towards Sasahara, whose tsun side manifests as assaulting him with military-grade weapons, to little effect, to the equally quirky teachers of their school. Needless to say, it’s a very silly and chaotic series, and that’s exactly what makes it so memorable. The humor is pretty hit and miss in the first half of the series, but from episode 14 onwards, they thoroughly master it, with every episode having at least a few scenes that got me laughing. Beyond the silliness, though, the series actually has a lot of heart to it. There’s a few moments that change up the status quo, or even develop the characters just a bit, and some scenes are surprisingly sweet, if still played for laughs more often than not. There’s also a lot of continuity, which in later episodes often provide the punchlines to some of the best gags, which definitely encourages watching the whole series. The Japanese voice acting is fittingly crazy for each character, and the animation fits perfectly, as while the character designs are quite simple, there’s many would be mundane moments that have contrasting overly impressive and exaggerated animation that makes them very memorable. All in all, Nichijou is a very enjoyable series once it finds its groove, and about the only reason its not higher on my rankings is just because pure comedies aren’t really one of my favorite genres. Still, if you ever want a good laugh, you can’t go wrong with this. 3. Soul Eater
Tumblr media
Number of episodes: 51. Language options: dub and subs available. Streaming availability: Netflix, Funimation. Soul Eater is yet another adaptation, this time of a manga by Atsushi Ōkubo, produced by Studio Bones, who also did the Fullmetal Alchemist animes, and is quite similar to the original FMA series in that it outpaced the manga and, rather than simply overloading itself with filler, decided to go in an entirely different direction by the end. The Death Weapon Meister Academy is a school founded by Death himself, dedicated to the training of Meisters, who wield Weapons, humans with the ability to shapeshift into weapons, for the purpose of destroying Kishin Eggs, evil beings who have consumed the souls of others, and pose the risk of transforming into extremely dangerous demons. Any Meister who can collect the souls of these corrupted beings, as well as the soul of a Witch, can transform their Weapon into a Death Scythe, the personal arms of Death. Among the students of the DWMA are seven Meisters and Weapons who stand out in particular: the teams of Maka Albarn, a kind hearted and responsible, though temperamental, girl, her Weapon, Soul “Eater” Evans, a laidback and snarky wannabe “cool” guy, Black Star, a prideful and loudmouthed ninja who’s seemingly always out to make a spectacle of himself, regardless of how it hampers him, his Weapon, Tsubaki, a humble and levelheaded woman, Death the Kid, the son of Death and one of the top students in the cool, held back only by a crippling obsession with symmetry, and his Weapons, Liz and Patty Thompson. While these seven gradually come together as a team, a Witch named Medusa begins to put an ambitious and destructive plan into motion, one involving her “child”, Crona, and the strange, insanity inducing black blood that courses through their veins. Soul Eater has a lot going for it. A likeable and crazy cast of characters, even the side ones, like the maniacal Doctor Stein, or the surprisingly goofy and casual Death, or the tragic Crona, or the hilariously egotistical Excalibur, to a lot of fun action scenes, to its great animation and overall unique visual design, including the sun and moon having giant, creepy laughing faces. It has a lighthearted, comedic tone that doesn’t detract from the serious moments, and the main characters get some pretty good development as the series goes on. The dub is also great, with Laura Bailey as Maka, Micah Solusod as Soul, Brittney Karbowski as Black Star, and Todd Haberkorn as Death the Kid especially sticking out to me. In general, I don’t have a lot of significant criticisms, besides how the story is handled once the villainous organization Arachnophobia is introduced, which is also about where it begins to deviate from the manga. Most of the villains part of it never really feel like a threat, and the story becomes much more simple and typical compared to how the manga went, and when the ending arrives, it just kinda, happens, with several notable subplots just kinda left unfinished. It definitely feels like an underwhelming ending, and is a big reason why I place this lower on the list, but Soul Eater is still a pretty entertaining watch that’s worth a try if you want a decently lengthy, but not horribly long shonen. 2. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Tumblr media
Number of episodes: 28. Language options: dub and subs available. Streaming availability: Funimation. Here we have the big one, an extremely memetic and famous series by Kyoto Animation, based on a series of light novels by Nagaru Tanigawa, a series that was finally completed back in November 2020 after its start in 2003. Kyon is a lazy and down to earth high school student who wishes for little more for himself than an uneventful, normal high school life- a hope that’s abruptly shattered when, on a whim, he becomes involved with Haruhi Suzumiya, an eccentric, hyperactive, and thoroughly self centered girl, who claims to have no interest in ordinary humans, and instead wishes to discover things thoroughly unusual, such as aliens, time travelers, or espers, and forces Kyon to form a club, the SOS Brigade, with her to achieve this. Haruhi quickly pulls three other students into the brigade, those being Yuki Nagato, a stoic and quiet bookworm, Mikuru Asahina, a shy and passive girl often subjected to humiliation and abuse by Haruhi, and Itsuki Koizumi, a calm transfer student who acts extremely subservient to Haruhi. While Kyon initially writes off the club as an unreasonable use of his time, his fellow members reveal an unexpected truth to him: the subjects of Haruhi’s fascinations actually do exist. Yuki is an alien, of a sort, created and controlled by an entity known as the Data Overmind, Mikuru is a time traveler from some point in the future, and Itsuki is an esper, and member of an organization of similar people. All three of them have been sent to observe the oblivious Haruhi, who appears to have the unconscious ability to change reality itself according to her desires, and is at threat of remaking the entire world if not placated. With Haruhi apparently having taken a unique interest in Kyon, he finds himself taken along for all sorts of supernatural adventures spawned from Haruhi’s whims. There’s a lot I could go on about regarding Haruhi, but in the interest of not turning this into a full on rant, I’ll keep shortish. It’s more or less an insane mishmash of several different genres, from slice of life, to science fiction, to fantasy, just depending on what each individual story feels like being. The episodes are mostly adapted from the early light novels, mostly the multiple stories from the third and fifth novels, The Boredom and The Rampage of Haruhi Suzumiya, respectively. It’s not often you’ll have any idea just what to expect from each individual episode, which makes the series very chaotic, but interesting. The characters are likeable and memorable, including the side characters, and the sheer ridiculousness of what goes on makes for many amusing moments. At the same time, the series is surprisingly complex, with many possible interpretations of its characters and the events they go through, furthered by the antics Kyoto Animation pulled when it was originally airing, such as airing the episodes out of chronological order, meaning the plot would often jump from the middle of an arc to something else. The end result is a very unique and enjoyable product, helped by the fantastic dub, with the actors capturing each character perfectly, from Crispin Freeman as the grounded and snarky Kyon, to Wendee Lee as the aggressively energetic Haruhi, to Stephanie Sheh as the gentle, yet secretive Mikuru. That said, there is one pretty disappointing part of it all, and that’s the second season, mostly thanks to the infamous Endless Eight arc, an eight part arc that’s more or less the same things happening over and over, with only the first and last episodes having anything noticeably different. Regardless of its own uniqueness, more than half the season is taken over by this, and something that may have worked if cut down to three or four episodes instead singlehandedly killed off the series’ goodwill. About the only redeeming factor of the second season is the five part adaptation of The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya, which has some of the funniest moments in the whole series. Overall, Haruhi is still a very fun series, and I’m really gonna have to watch its movie, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, one of these days. 1. Trigun
Tumblr media
Number of episodes: 26. Language options: dub and subs available. Streaming availability: Funimation, Hulu. Finishing off this list is an adaptation of a manga series by Yasuhiro Nightow, produced by Madhouse and another adaptation that overtook its source material. Compared to how Soul Eater handled it, however, Trigun went down much, much better, to the point Nightow himself had nothing but praise for how the anime turned out, and the series is generally considered one of the best animes of the late 90′s. On the harsh desert planet of Gunsmoke lives a wandering gunslinger known as Vash the Stampede, the “Humanoid Typhoon” with a large handgun known to leave tremendous destruction in his wake, who amassed a bounty of $$60,000,000,000 after destroying the city of July, leading to an endless trail of bounty hunters out to collect the price on his head. In the middle of all this, Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, two representatives of an insurance society which is often forced to pay for damages caused by Vash, track him down for the purposes of minimizing the chaos he causes. Upon catching up with him, however, the duo discovers that, contrary to his reputation, Vash is a kindhearted goof, and self proclaimed hunter of love and peace, who absolutely refuses to ever take another person’s life, even at great personal risk to himself. Vash continues his travels carefree, helping out whoever he can, with the occasional assistance of Meryl and Milly, as well as a traveling priest known as Nicholas D. Wolfwood, only to one day have an encounter with a mysterious and cruel man known as Legato Bluesummers. Vash soon learns that Legato has hired a group of assassins known as the Gung-Ho Guns to kill Vash, and leave a trail of bodies wherever they go, seemingly for the sole purpose of tormenting Vash. As Vash hunts down Legato, he is gradually forced to face his past, and consider whether he can truly stay committed to his pacifist ideals. In general, Trigun is just a very, very well made series. It has a likeable and developed cast of characters, with special mention going to Vash, who is a very compelling and sympathetic character, and Wolfwood, who makes a great foil to Vash with very interesting development of his own, with characters outside of the main cast being memorable as well, from Legato himself, to even some of the more minor villains, such as the varied members of the Gung-Ho Guns, or Brilliant Dynamites Neon, who makes an inexplicably strong impression for a one off villain not even important to the overall plot. The space western setting is quite good, and the designs are great, with many villains having distinctive looks that further help them make an impression. The action is great, and the animation is also quite good, and has that 90′s anime charm. The dub, while a bit rough around the edges, is generally solid too. From Lia Sargent as the ditzy but kind Milly, to Dorothy Elias Fahn as the hotheaded Meryl, to Jeff Nimoy as the weary Wolfwood, to Richard Cansino as the calculating and disturbing Legato, with special mention needing to go to Johnny Yong Bosch as Vash. Despite it actually being his first voice acting role ever, he does a great job in portraying the many sides to Vash, and absolutely sells many of the biggest moments in the story. Speaking of which, the series started quite lighthearted and wacky, with the first four episodes actually being filler, but gets gradually darker as it goes on. The earlier episodes are still quite enjoyable on their own, though, and manage to slowly reveal new aspects to Vash in each one, before finally setting his nature in stone in episode 5. What really sells the series and makes it so memorable, however, are the themes it explores, of the practicality of unwavering pacifism, and whether taking a life, whether for heinous crimes committed without remorse, or with the purpose of protecting others, is ever justifiable. While quite a few series have touched dilemmas like this before, what makes Trigun stand out with it is the emphasis placed upon it throughout the whole series, with many episodes touching upon it in some regard. It genuinely fairly looks at the different sides of it all, and the consequences of each, with many emotional moments coming from it as a result. While the manga did ultimately take a very different turn from the anime, the anime actually preserves several of the most important plot moments, and manages to come to a satisfactory conclusion of its own regarding the themes. Ultimately, Trigun makes for a very fun and interesting watch that I highly recommend. And with that, my ranking is complete. With the exception of Robotics;Notes, I can pretty confidently recommend every show on this list. Got some more shows I plan to get through soon, so another ranking like this may be soon in the making. Either way, till next time. -Scout

*steeples fingers* So... tell me about Trevor. Like, what's he look like, what's his skills, what weapons does he use. Stuff like that n anything else you wanna throw in uwu. Just feel like lettin ya talk about someone yknow?
BB! 💕❣💕❣💕
Trevor is also on the tall side at 6'4. Long black hair in dreads. At this point I might as well just admit my male and male presenting OCs almost all have long hair. Pretty dark complexion like Jelani, Ginger, Abigail and Latoya and some of the others. His eyes are super dark and in most lights they just look like his pupils swallowed up his irises. He's fit, bit vain in that department but I wouldn't consider him a gym rat but he does go more than Jela and certainly more than Lo lol. His upper and lower canines are gold (to be brutally honest when I first saw Black Panther and saw Killmonger I was all like, "fuck yeah, I'm doing that on Trevor but modified because werewolf".) Some scars here and there from when he was human and a mess more from his initial bite from a werewolf. Those start at his left shoulder down to his left elbow. Both ears pierced along with a side lip piercing (right side), same one Angelus has because both went to get that same piercing together the same day. He has tattoos or at least I want him to have some but like with every OC that has tattoos I haven't ever drawn them because I haven't decided what to do with them so he's also on stand by for that. Someday ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
As a werewolf he turns into a werewolf though he's wearing that charm thingy that let's him control the transformation and makes it a teeny tiny itty bit less painful. He also has hightened senses as well as crazy amounts of strength. Like other werewolves in human form he can make his irises or entire eyes glow, in his case silver, which doesn't actually do anything in the way of harm but it serves for intimidation purposes. He can also extend his claws and teeth to use to defend himself or shoo away potential threats.
He is also like THE sniper and counter-sniper with the world record of longest confirmed kill. He's like the embodiment of One Shot, One Kill - No Luck, Pure Skill. The man can defend himself in any scenario but ya really don't want him aiming a sniper at you that's like lol his final form. He's kinda old school preferring bolt action to semi-auto even tho more modern semi-auto snipers are more stable now than they were before. He can also fly just about anything from small planes to helicopters and is pretty much the go to pilot.
Bit of an understatement but Trevor is freaked out by magic. But he's in a team full of people who to some capacity use magic? You could also argue werewolves are kinda sorta not really but yeah by products of magic? True and true. He still doesn't like it but he trusts his friends and teammates so he's sorta chill. Enemies or an unknown person or thing using it or a place is inherently embedded with magic and he's outta there or will be pretty hostile. He just doesn't trust it.
Oh! Trevor also knows ASL. His little brother was deaf and they kind of had their own sign language to talk to each other. Now, his little brother died of pneumonia which he caught while both were running away from some very bad people and given that they didn't have a home and were squatting in abandoned buildings the kid didn't make it. Then years later when he learned of ASL he felt a need to learn it and added Braille in for good measure.
He's super into cats. He likes all sorts of animals but as a pet he feels that cats are the best for him. He has two male Peterbalds named Ice Cream and Cheesecake. Did I mention he's got a serious sweet tooth? He totally does.
He's also an avid horror fan. Book, movies, shows, podcasts, video games--if it's horror he'll happily consume it. Because of his love of horror he named his son Damien. He's aromantic and pansexual as well. That's a quick and sorta short bit of Trevor :3
I still haven't exactly sketched him out yet bc I'm being a dumbass perfectionist but I'm hoping to get something down one of these days.

Error: Program Not Found - Four
Tumblr media
Summary:  You are in charge of programming the droids that work most closely with both General Hux and Kylo Ren. Unbeknownst to you, each of these two men have it in their heads that your relationship extends beyond the workplace. This causes things to escalate quickly when your two apparently secret boyfriends compare notes on their respective partner who is far too similar for their liking.
Read on AO3
“Gossip is the opiate of the oppressed.” - Erica Jong
 Four: Gossip
Millicent did not take long to adjust to Eddard’s presence. She curled up three feet away from him on the ground. Startling twice in the first ten minutes that he was in the quarters, the feline opted to follow him with her eyes then determined he was not a threat. It was at this point that she fell asleep whilst purring up a storm. Eddard, after this occurred, seemed to feel freer to move about as needed to map out the room. It was this that provided him insight as to how large the TIE-shaped droid would need to be. You already had your own idea and measurements, however a second opinion on this front was not unwise. To top it off, there would be necessary adjustments should the suggestion of the droid doubling as a cat bed be utilized.
Basic knowledge of droid engineering was required for your career and current position. That hardly made you an expert, which was why your designs often met with modifications by those on your team. Experience was an excellent teacher. The ability to choose members of your team proved an asset when you took this into consideration rather than become insulted should any subordinates correct you. Where this had the potential of becoming an issue was during optional modifications and alterations to blueprints that you did not accept for the final project; there were engineers and technicians
Gossip and arrogance were what you worked hard to avoid in the workplace. Thus far Eddard did not seem the kind to start gossip. As to whether or not he would believe gossip, this was not anything you could determine in the short amount of time that you had known him. There had been nothing to set off alarm bells in your head regarding these matters.
Eddard sketched out his own tentative design for the TIE-shaped droid on the datapad that he had brought with him. It was a model older than the one you possessed, and one you recognized as being assigned to newer workers within the First Order. He might have been given the datapad after a transfer from a different base. In the end, this was not important enough for you to spend more time thinking about it. You instead asked that he link you to the project in order for you to pull up the hologram on your own device. Eddard complied, and you changed the settings on your datapad so that you were able to display both blueprints side by side.
Merging the two versions together, you worked through which portions of the droid were superfluous. The bed idea was one that you were growing fond of. This rang more true as you came to realize that one of the toys you had scrapped before was perfect for this altered version of the droid. It would be capable of deploying a fuzzy ball attached to a string for Millicent to chase. The droid when in bed form could continue to dangle the ball, giving the cat the option to play while in a more relaxed state. You kept the hover setting along with the light beam that Millicent would chase. Reducing the altitude that the droid could reach was a necessity; the added bulk of the bed feature would otherwise be a danger to the cat.
The revised blueprint was not yet completed when Eddard was set to go off duty for the remainder of the cycle. You informed him that you would finish the fine details for General Hux to look over. Anything more would be minor, and Eddard would receive a chance to look over the project along with the lead engineer that would begin construction. Most work left revolved around programming as well as ensuring the droid had the necessary components to carry out the instructions you wished to give it. In the end, the remaining work rested on your shoulders anyway. Eddard exited the quarters with a wave of farewell.
Millicent slunk forward to climb into your lap. She nudged your datapad with her head until you lifted it a fraction higher. The new position was awkward on your arms. The muscles in your limbs cramped, prompting you to push your elbows outwards. It was not a large improvement, however you had worked in worse conditions.
“TeeArr should be repaired soon,” you said under your breath. Your fingers were in constant motion typing in commands for the program to display. Examples of what cushions could rest within the droid without becoming a fire hazard. “I don’t know how soon General Hux wants me to alter his programming, do you?”You dipped your chin. Two bright eyes stared up at you in reply. They were similar to those of her owner’s. This was nothing you had made much of a note of before.
The door to General Hux’s quarters opened not a quarter of an hour later. You did not bother to turn around to greet the one who entered. This was not to be taken as unprofessional behavior by the man; he had always been upfront that he preferred that his presence not interrupt the flow of work. You were right then hitting the finalize command for the program. This set the blueprint as read-only and would allow you to send it to General Hux then later the engineer to work with without either being forced to run the program that you had been using. It would lessen the strain on their datapads as well as prevent accidental edits. Millicent, unlike you, happily raced towards her owner and greeted him.
Feet shuffling spoke of how General Hux altered his stance to lift up his beloved cat. As for the rustle of a bag, that did draw your attention away from the image displayed on your datapad. You spared a brief glance over your shoulder. He was carrying with him a cloth bag that had a logo you recognized from the lotion that he had been ordering.
That was fast, you thought, fighting off the urge to scowl. It was one thing for him to purchase a high end product. Another to pay the exuberant price for same-day delivery. You held in these thoughts despite the bubbling urge to protest so that such behavior was not repeated. That in itself would have been presumptuous. He had not promised to give you anything beyond this single bottle.
You wiggled your toes in your slippers. General Hux had set the bag down on the ground next to you. Next he sat on the couch, drew a blanket over his lap, and placed Millicent atop it. He would not cover his uniform in fur. Not that he didn’t own several lint brushes for the occasions that her fur did stick to his clothing.
“I’ll have the blueprint sent in just a moment,” you said. You straightened your posture and watched the movement of his hand. He stroked Millicent head to tail. She purred at his touch while nuzzling him through the blanket. “Eddard had several suggestions that helped. I appreciate you giving approval.”
“I look forward to seeing the results.” General Hux paused in stroking the top of Millicent’s head. “I overheard how Kylo Ren damaged TeeArr. Is this something you would like me to address with him?”
It was a kind offer even without the animosity that existed between the two men. You declined, albeit not without thanking him for the offer. General Hux continued with surprising you. He stated that you need not wait to use the lotion. He had caught a glimpse of the forming blisters again when he had walked into the room. Treating them as soon as possible was wise. This time you took him up on the offer. You stretched out your legs, removed the slippers from your feet, and opened the bottle of lotion. Using one hand, you applied some to your right foot simultaneous to attaching the blueprint to a message that you sent to General Hux.
“You can sit on the couch if you would like,” he offered, tilting his head a little to the left to indicate the cushion beside him. His words elicited a stutter from your heart as blood pooled into your cheeks. This, in your opinion, entirely intimate behavior was worrying you. He had been sleeping even less than usual. That had to be it, you reasoned. Otherwise there was a chance he was feverish. You were not about to request the chance to feel his forehead to check. Likewise, you could think of no way to ask if he felt alright without insulting him.
You reached for the bottle of lotion again to apply some to your other foot. “Uhm…” A thought entered your mind: it will be easier to discuss the project if you are sitting next to him. “Thank you. Just one moment.”
General Hux nodded acknowledgement. He resumed petting Millicent with one hand, and with the other he grabbed his datapad to review the work that you had sent to him. You finished rubbing and massaging the lotion into your foot. Already there was a light tingling sensation as the product soothed some of the discomfort. You lifted the bottle to eye level and read its name. Smiled a little to yourself. Finally you replaced the bottle in the bag that you would later take, and stood to join him on the couch. He did not react as you sat down beside him.
He did, however, lean into the back of the couch. Lounged rather than sat rigid as he normally did. Your eyebrows rose. Averting your face in the hopes that he had not caught your expression, you began to speak of the alterations that you and Eddard had made. The cat bed drew from him an interest hmm and he expanded the image to zoom in on the design.
“It is a much different project compared with training and assassination droids.” So conversational, you thought. You were already nodding in agreement when you were reminded of the project that you had mentioned to Kylo Ren. “If I may, there is another project I wish to discuss once this is submitted to the engineering team.” His green-blue eyes left the image to search your face. The close proximity allowed you the ability to appreciate how soft his features could be and how young he was given his rank. “Physical training droids for wounded officers and stormtroopers.” You wondered for a second if you should have held off giving a pitch until later.
That second passed. General Hux offered something of a smile; not quite a grin, not a smirk. “Your mind is rather remarkable.” If he was aiming to give you a heart attack or kill you with praise, he was close to succeeding. “I will arrange time for your official proposal.” He turned back to the blueprint. Maker, you were grateful that he did. It was the one thing that allowed you to regather yourself as you worked through the shock and pleasure of being complimented in such a forthcoming manner by General Hux.
You again began to verbally outline your thoughts on the TIE droid. You focused on the reduced altitude and the complications that might arise for the engineer while the individual decided which material would best serve as cushion for the bed. You imagined that this would require additional testing by the engineer, and those tests might include your presence to work on the programming. This, you acknowledged, might push back the time for when you were prepared to officially propose the new project to the board. It would not be an issue, and General Hux was prepared for potential delays.
More might have been said had you not received a summons from the maintenance lead you had no fond feelings for. The issue was not with the training droids, however, but with TeeArr. General Hux gave his approval for you to dismiss yourself. You grabbed the bag that he had brought for you and carried it along with your datapad out of the room. Your mind was already proposing numerous possibilities as to what had gone wrong with TeeArr. The vagueness of the message irritated you. It served as yet another reason why you hoped to not have many projects with the man in the future.
On the way to the maintenance room that TeeArr had been taken to, you walked past a group of three stormtroopers. Their postures were rather lax in comparison with what you knew was expected of them. One was playing the role of lookout. His visor tracked your movements before returning to stare at the other end of the hallway. The other two were speaking. You generally did not make a point to eavesdrop, but when your mind registered the name General Hux, you couldn’t help but listen while you walked.
“I hear he’s going to be spending some time with his girl,” one stormtrooper theatrically whispered conspiratorially to the other. You had two thoughts on this; the first was how childish it was to gossip, and the second was wondering how much General Hux spoiled the woman he was romantically involved with. Unless, you continued, it was nothing more than a political arrangement. His strange behavior suddenly made more sense to you. It was better that it was due to romance than that he was falling ill.

Felt like a messy post tonight. First is a Cosplay rough - where I draw the finalish look I want for a costume (this is Felicia from Darkstalkers, look I’m called Kitty for a reason-). It’s only a tiny section of the actual portfolio I make of each character when making costumes. The sketches aren’t perfect nor will they be finalised persay HOWEVER they will be getting a ‘post’ art - the final fashion design, that’ll reflect the final product. Otherwise it’s all design concepts and functionalities, fabrics, costs, etc.
Second is my Katie Killjoy WIP. Like with Lady, it’s going to be finalised on PC and the paper is just a skeleton layer. This page in now covered in notes than what you see here.
Third is the FUCKING CAT WHO WELCOMED HERSELF INTO MY HOME. Meet Tiny. Long story short, I must have a spiritual sign that says ‘catnip dealer’ because cats (and other animals) tend to be drawn to me instantly. She’s not microchipped and I’ve been hunting everywhere for a sign of her owner (if she even has one), including the cat rescue. No leads and I only have one final place to search (once outta isolation) before everything’s dead ends. No one in the local community knows her home, just that she’s everywhere. Some even thought we owned her as she started to get food and hugs from me (all I did one day was sit with her and say “What’s the matter, eh? Tell me allllll about it” and... she really fuckin called my bluff and mewing- since then she’s accepted that we call her tiny and climbs up our door for us. Even yowled until I came outside when she presented me a dead sparrow.)
She lives with us now, and it looks like she’ll be here to stay (she’s fine, like the others, she’s like glue to me) but I want to be at least 90% sure that no ones missing her. We had a black cat visitor for months before finding out he was owned but he just... weirdly preferred my company. We looked for him home for ages until the owners found us - we live closer to each other than we thought. We’re in frequent contact and she was the one suggesting he lives with us if he’s happier. We also have a neighbour cat called Oswald who lives with an old man. Stopped him and my old boy Trav fighting, now Ozzy visits just to get fusses from me before going home. There’s Missy, she’s a grumpy mate who fears people and hisses, but she still runs up to me knowing I always spare safe food for her. We get many other neighbourhood cats and strays - even spent ages looking after a large mother spider and her babies (only one baby lives with us now as the family have moved to find a warmer spot) as well as magpies, pigeons, doves, starlings, foxes, hedgehogs (that... that was fucking awkward finding out-) and even a fuckin badger.
Long story short, THIS is the result of letting me share a home with you. So does the entire fuckin neighbourhood of creatures. My bad. They just know my weakness. The room is a mess as it’s going through total revamp. I’m a mess because I’m a mess lol. Tiny now holds my hands and the others are in the habit of this as well. Cant get shit done but I love them.

Left Behind In The Halloween Parade: Late Review of Bob’s Burgers And The Simpsons.
Tumblr media
The First Sunday of November, and the Last Sunday of the Trump and Biden election, found Hulu finally uploading the Bob’s Burgers and Simpsons Halloween episodes. So in the spirit of taking your sweet ass time that is exactly what I did with this review. The Bob’s Burgers Halloween episode is probably the weakest of the series, a series that is practically a Hallmark card company in terms of the amount of holiday-inspired content they have churned out. Episode “Heartbreak Hotel-oween” isn’t a particularly offensive in any way it just fails to live up to Halloween episodes such as my personal favorites Season 8 “The Wolf of Wharf Street,” which remains one of the most visually stunning episodes of the series,  and  Season 4, the series’ second Halloween episode,“Fort Night,” which has incredibly gruesome stakes and the most satisfying entry in the Louise versus Millie feud.
“Heartbreak Hotel-oween” is still ultimately pretty good and though it took a second viewing to fully appreciate it I do like watching the Belcher children deftly sail through the world of adults. The tantalizing plot thread of a Bob’s Burgers Delivery service is dangled and I would like to see more Delivery based plots. Getting these characters into different areas and expanding upon the ambitious Jersey shore town. Having the kids deliver a burger to an older woman using the burger as a lure for her seance is flattened against a brown and forgettable after thought of a hotel. Everything with the Belcher kids is good and interesting and with the help of Andy Daly voicing the Hotel Manager; Lindsey Stoddart doing Quarantine duty and voicing multiple characters including the old woman Dolores conducting the seance, and Loren Bouchard Home Movies collaborator Melissa Robbins stops by as a bystander character as well.
The episode starts getting in its own way with the adults blood bank centric B-plot. The entire plot is given in a single exchange with Teddie being excited about donating blood and everyman Bob with his everyman  O-negative blood finds giving blood nauseating and gross. That’s it. That’s the whole plot and besides the blood banker workers being dressed up as vampires there are no other comedic games being played and it is total unmemorable fluff, which has been a common issue for the ongoing series. One thing this episode does right is at least get Bob, Linda and Teddie out of the restaurant and into a new environment. A lot of the verbal exchanges between Bob, Linda and Teddie feel a lot more stilted due to Covid recordings and the lack of non-scripted banter is sorely missed. I have noticed this season having more John H. Benjamin monologue Bob by himself moments, which only work when Bob’s imagination is in full flight. Where was the talking bag of Bob’s blood? Hell I wouldn’t even had objected to hearing a dang song sung by the vampires to help soothe Bob into giving blood or something beyond: Bob doesn’t like giving blood because it makes him woozy, he gives blood and get’s woozy.
Overall this is a perfectly serviceable episode: three Ghost-baiting cheeseburgers out of five.

Fox is certainly using the Loren Bouchard & Molyneux sisters brand like a blood bag with the recent announcement of the new series The Great North. Wendy Molyneux is a frequent writer, (executive) story editor since Bob’s Burgers inception. She is the writer of  “The Wolf of Wharf Street” and the episode of Bob’s Burgers I have watched the most - “There's No Business Like Mr. Business Business,” because I am a cat fanatic, John Oliver fan, and have been the pet companion of a standard poodle exactly like Snoodle named Faust that I love dearly. Basically, I am excited for this show. Molyneux is also a deeply connected collaborator with Megan Mullally writing on all 74 episodes of Mullally’s forgotten by the ages The Megan Mullally Show. A show according to Wikipedia’s citation of Fox News, “viewers were disappointed to find out that Megan is not anything like Karen in real life,” and if there is any white woman out there that is an anti-Karen it is Mullally. Mullally is not the focus of the show but her more visible and commercially accessible husband Nick Offerman is finally being anointed into the annals of TV Dads. With his three sons voiced by Paul Rust, Will Forte and National Treasure Aparna Nancherla and sole daughter voiced by Bob’s Burgers alum Jenny Slate, who recently honorably stepped down from a lucrative tv series Big Mouth deal like the real champ that she is.  Mullally will show up as Jenny Slate’s character’s boss andThe cast is undeniable the backdrop of Alaska has a lot of promise for elaborate or interesting set pieces. I am ready for this show! Will this be Bob’s Burgers Futurama? That’s probably a vicious hex based on how Futurama was infamously jerked around by Fox. FOX has already given the show a promising two-season deal, which is already a lot better than what Netflix did for Tuca and Bertie. Faint nowhere discussions of the Bob’s Burgers movie were also mentioned in an interview with Bouchard who has a cantankerous “theater release only” policy, which bums out a little, but I would much prefer they take as long as possible. The Bob’s Burgers movie cannot end up carrying out the Simpson movie curse.

I am no Simsons scholar. I could not give you an active ranking of favorite Tree House of Horror episodes. I could tell you that I really like Bart as an Edgar Allen Poe’s Raven. You don’t need to be Simpsons scholar to safely state that “Treehouse of Horror XXXI” should be ashamed to show its “funny face.” For starters the entire appeal of the anthology style of storytelling has been completely deflated by having two of the previous episodes in this season being gimmicky non-standard episodes. The only positive thing I can say about this episode is that it is an important teaching tool for what the most broken and shittiest, laziest satire imaginable would look like and the 2020 Election cold opening is actually pretty solid. All of the good will earned by the strong opening is completely squandered starting with an inexplicably CGI Toys Story sketch. I am assuming the animation department went with CGI because the source material is CGI. The CGI is really bad and makes me really miss the 3D models of Simpsons Hit And Run and perfectly charming The Simpsons Game. Instead this sketch’s particular animation looks like the animators were most inspired not by Pixar’s clean and craftsmen like CGI models but were going for more of a Fanboy & Chum Chum look. A Toy’s Story parody in this day and age is asinine in its laziness, but it’s still an evergreen territory. A good Toy’s Story parody is possible, but simply having Bart play out the role of Toy Story’s Sid except he gets lobotomized by his own toys. I did appreciate the writer’s making the explicit moral of the story to not buy toys, which for a Disney product like the Simpsons is pretty rich.
Tumblr media
Behold! The last recorded instance of a quality Toys Story satire from China, IL
The next two parodies go down slightly better simply because they aren’t sporting that eye bleeding animation but paying homage to Enter The Spider-verse and Russian Doll/Happy Death Day 2U in 2020 feels just as dated as Toy Story. What kind of fool is still writing about Russian Doll in 2020? The Enter the Homer-verse sketch is at least ambitious and showcases how masturbatory  the show has come whenever it is showcasing Dan Castellaneta’s various vocal talents. I get it dude, you like having dump trucks of money given to you for barely making an effort and doing Hannah Barbara impersonations that sound more like a bad Woody Allen. Regardless, this is still the one sketch that makes the most attempt to have comedic games with its multiple iterations of Homer and even throwing out some alternative universe Burns and Smithers for good measure. The final third Russian Doll sketch that let’s you know that this sketch is more Russian Doll than Happy Death Day by using the same exact Harry Nilsson “Gotta Get Up”  piano riff. This sketch had potential but once again the show writers and creatives seem to only indulge the worst possible instincts and cast Lisa as the lead of the sketch. So that means we get to watch this 8 soon-to-be 9 year old girl and fellow child Nelson get murdered in a variety of banal and brutal ways, and it’s just not fun or pleasant to watch. The obvious choice is an unexpected Springfield resident and if it has to be a Simpson having Marge or one of her sisters be the Nadia surrogate makes far more logical sense and Marge’s birthday would carry more emotional weight.
Tumblr media
Reminder to myself to check out this lost late series entry where Natasha Lyonne is the voice of Krusty’s daughter.
I completely understand why The AV Club canceled their coverage of The Simpsons. The whole series has a very masochistic and sadistic pull and tug between creatives and fans. The sweet and simple souls of Den of Geek are still reviewing the Simpsons and offer a far more favorable review: https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/the-simpsons-season-32-episode-4-review-treehouse-of-horror-xxxi/.  Google results also yield one another publication reviewing this current season published on medium that has been taken by for violating medium rules. Will the Simpsons be coming for me next?
Skip this episode! Judging by the synopsis of the season’s next ep finding the Simpsons, once again, finding themselves somewhere other than Springfield is looking to be another skippable entry. I want to be proven wrong! The latter day Simpsons seasons usually have a memorable or decent episode here or there. So far the only thing remarkable about this season is how much it wants to try to be different and think outside of the Springfield box but in the process give the season an overwhelming sense of hollowness. I shall forge ahead with my coverage, because I am either a masochist or a sadist depending on the weather.

Suadade: Kaoru x reader
Be prepared for some feels. Just a little story I wrote...it was supposed to be happy but i was in the mood for angst so here you go! Grab some tissues and buckle up tight. **Send me prompts and ideas and AUs to write! My ask box is open!**
Nothing was wrong. Dinner turned out great, the boys took their baths and went to bed without a problem, and Kaoru even had the headspace to sketch up a couple new designs. But, as he lay in his bed, eyes wide and glued to the ceiling, he couldn’t find the will to go to sleep.
Nothing was wrong. No alarm bells went off in his head, and everything seemed alright. But he had this vague suspicion, an itch under his skin, that something was amiss.
Kaoru sat up. He tossed the sheets away and swung his legs to the floor. The cold floor, his colder bed.
A sinking feeling washed over him as he realized what the feeling was: suadade.
Suadade: the feeling of missing something you used to have but don’t anymore. The longing crept up his skin as he looked out the window into the clear night sky, sighing at the rough outlines of trees in the yard. Out here in the country he could see the stars, breathe in the mountain air. It was better for him and the boys, that they could run around on grass rather than pavement. He was so glad you had agreed to move the family out here, even for the very little time you were able to enjoy it.
Kaoru rose and dragged his feet to the window. He quickly untied the curtains, letting them fall against the glass to lock away the outside world. You had hated having the curtains open at night. Even out in the country, you were scared of people peeking in your window while you slept. You husband, on the other hand, preferring to wake up to natural sunlight, would just chuckle and pull you tighter into his arms, proclaiming that he would protect you from all peeping Toms.
Now that his bed was empty, he understood your hesitation.
Too frustrated to sleep and too sad to do anything productive, Kaoru glanced at his clock and knew the night was nearly over. Another wasted night mourning you. He comforted himself, however, in the fact that in just a few hours the sun would rise, a sign that you were looking down on him. The red clouds were reminiscent of your rosy cheeks, and the blue sky matched your eyes. And the sun--the sun was your smile. And every day you would smile on him and your sons, just as a reminder of your love.
That was how Kaoru had explained it to your oldest, at least. After the funeral, it was the best way he could describe Heaven to a six-year-old, now 8--God, they had grown so much.
Kaoru put his head in his hands. He didn’t even know about death when he was four, the age of your youngest boy.  Having to explain to Hiro that his mommy had died was one of the hardest things he had ever had to do.
What kind of parent was he? You were so much better at this kind of thing. You had masterfully explained it to Tooru when his cat had died, explaining the farm up north and that the love they shared will always be there, even if they were separated. But Kaoru, all he did was stand there and watch while you comforted your crying son.
It had been two years since you died, and he still felt like a piece of his heart had been ripped out of his chest.
How long was he going to feel this way? Feeling like he’s not enough, that his world has darkened? Hiro was only four and Tooru six when it had happened--would they retain any memories of you? Kaoru returned to bed, finally exhausted and on the verge of tears. There were no words left to explain his grief; he had cried, screamed, and prayed them all.
Nestling back under the covers, he stretched out his arms to the spot where you once had laid. There was a strange, phantom warmth. He felt that warmth spread over his body, caressing his face, dragging its fingers down his arm, cuddling onto his back. It dispelled the melancholy grief.
You were still there. He didn’t need the sun to shine to know that you were smiling down on him. You already were. You always had. You always would.
Finally, for the first time that night, he fell asleep.

There is no better way to get to know someone than through a good question tag. In this case we have decided to make an Indie game dev question tag with the responses of our four developers. We hope that it will reveal many unknowns, but if you are left with any questions, do not hesitate to use our ask.
What part of game development are you responsible for?
Athe: I write and write, I melt in my seat, I correct, I cry and then I program. It’s an endless cycle. Occasionally I laugh like crazy while I eat Pringles.
Sam: I draw and color without leaving the lines (almost always) the sprites, the illustrations and the ravings that usually occur to us past 3 in the morning.
Illy: English translations.
Sher: I draw BGs
What tools do you use (hardware / software)?
Athe: Recently my desktop PC has passed away, so I’ve had to rescue my old PC from the garage. I also have a laptop that saves my life more times than I would like to admit. As for the software, I need, above all, drive documents, video editing programs, image etc (I have an Adobe package) and of course Renpy and Atom.
Sam: My main friend and companion is my tablet, a wacom intuos S (pistachio color, so cute). As programs I mainly use the Paint Tool Sai, because there is nothing in this life like its stabilizer. And less frequently than I would like (for details, texture brushes, effects ...) I also use Clip Studio Paint, which I only know how to use at about 2% of its capacity ... If someday I have time I would love to stop and learn seriously what can be done with it.
Illy: During the school year I live in a residence, so I use an old laptop, and when I return home I use a desktop computer that never has memory space. I translate the chapters in the same Atom where the complete script is and I keep them in google drive files where I share them with our beta reader. I also use editing programs like photoshop when I have to translate comics or procreate for when my artistic skills are required.
Sher: ipad+procreate+some final tweak in photoshop, I don't need much more
What is your favorite part of the job?
Athe: Would it be wrong if I say that is when we released the episode? During the whole production time everything is very stressful, there are times when it’s really uphill, but when we release a new chapter it feels soooo good. It's like saying to yourself, yeah, dammit, I can do it. Look at everything you've climbed by yourself. You're doing it right.
Sam: In general, my favorite parts are when the first scenes start to be programmed, and I can see the sprites with the backgrounds, the texts, and how the illustrations look. Everything always looks so much better when viewed in-game… I also really like being able to check out the script as it is written. And from the artistic part that concerns me, when I see that my hands capture the idea that I had in my head ... Especially in character designs.
Illy: Having to find a way to translate very spanish expressions into English, research vocabulary that I have never had to use and commenting on some translations with our beta reader (which we adore) to make it understandable without losing the original meaning.
Sher: I like to do the lineart when the sketch is complete, if I no longer have to think about anything else and it's just going through it, I find it very fun and relaxing
What is the most difficult part for you?
Athe: Offf, yes, I admit it, sometimes writing is the WORST. Other times I love it, especially when I can expand on the descriptions or stop at a part that is intimate or that I find interesting (for example, Hasiel's conversation from 6.3, small spoiler: P). But, I HATE having to paste scenes, often the protagonist moves between scenes and you always have to add lines to those transitions that really do not interest anyone, but that otherwise the text would be confusing. Anyway... It is a very wide world, with a lot of history, I have to deal with what I need readers to know to understand the facts, although sometimes it gets a bit boring.
Sam: What part does not... Rather who e.e Zihel and Ariel are a thorn in my side. Especially Zihel. I know it has to do with the fact that it has never been my strength to draw boys, and much less if they are more masculine in appearance... That's why I also suffer a lot from drawing muscles. Another thing that brings me a headache is the perspective of the illustrations. Every time I try to get out of the typical shot or poses a little... It doesn't work out.
Illy: Doughy’s  stuttering ¬.¬
Sher: chairs, sofas, tables... anything with four legs is my enemy
Anything to help or encourage you while you are working?
Athe: I need music, no, seriously, I NEED IT. I’m unable to focus without it. If, on top of that, I can get what I hear to act as a sounding board for what I write, the text is a thousand times better... But the muse is a pretty bad person.
Sam: Having a show/movie in the background that entertains me. The longer the better, so I don't have to stop to think what I want to put on next.
Illy: Eating sunflower seeds to trick my brain and not be tempted to do something else that distracts me.
Sher: I try to see other artists to motivate and inspire me before I start drawing, what I find most difficult is that initial push and that is where I need the motivation, then I usually have something in the background but it is not necessary
Something that’s a pet peeve or discouraging?
Athe: Some narrative climax moments. Generally, they are not important plot moments (that is almost entirely decided), they are often small decisions to go from scene A to scene B, but I can spend a LOT of time deciding which is the fastest and best way to tie those two ends. I'm the worst.
Sam: Many times when starting, I can't get the poses to fit the way I want, for example.
Illy: Finding many parts in a row that I find especially difficult to solve and that make me believe that I have forgotten how to English properly. And looking at how many lines I still have left.
Sher: When I don't know how to fill in some area, if I see something very empty but I don't know how to solve it, I can spend days looking at the screen without being able to advance, even if I have other areas that I could do in the meantime
What is required on your table or work surface?
Athe: Notebooks, sticky notes, pens… I’m a person who writes everything down, especially the tasks, but I also order the story by color schemes. The stack of sticky notes have 9 different colors, each one represents a character and I play a lot with them for a lot of nonsense. Besides, even though I have been writing on the computer for many more years than I wrote by hand, I still have a preference for the analogical.
Sam: Coffee, sweets, chocolate, cereals... And cats.
Illy: My phone, the sunflower seeds, a Capital America: Civil War 1L water cup, sticky notes that remind me of tasks.
Sher: I have nothing really lol all my things are for decoration
Your most productive hours?
Athe: Owl. Totally nocturnal. Although I have several crises a month to force myself to work at other times that always end... Wrong.
Sam: Also at night for the most part, although I can no longer stay awake as long as I endured before having a job (the good old days...) However, in the middle of the afternoon, when the zoo that I have at home is still taking a nap, I also manage to go a long way.
Illy: From when I finish eating until 7 or 8 in the afternoon, when I don't have to cook, clean, run errands...
Sher: I take over for Illy apparently, from 7 or 8 is when I start to get into the mood until bedtime
Do working hours make you forget to eat or make you eat twice as much?
Athe: It depends, in the past I ate a lot, now if I have stress I don't eat anything. If I'm in a normal productive phase and I'm not on my nerves, I'm probably eating by inertia.
Sam: They make me eat more, but especially junk food e.e And they make me forget healthy meals, especially dinner at night.
Illy: It depends on my mood, but I usually eat twice as much.
Sher: I'm generally a VERY distracted person so I don't usually get to focus on a task to get to either of those two modes but I guess when I am sooooooo much on the task, I forget. But that happens like a couple of times a year and "forgetting" is "I delay an hour."
What part of your set up would you improve / change (in aesthetics or functionality) if you had no money limit?
Athe: I'm trying to match some of my peripherals with the rest. They are all a damn different color, apparently I'm cursed... Now seriously, I wish I had a better graphic card that would allow me to make video captures, some speakers and a quality printer.
Sam: Actually, I don't think I need anything more complex than what I already have… But if I had to improve something, I'm curious about the most professional tablets, the big ones with the included screen and all that stuff.
Illy: A new laptop that lets me open 4 chrome tabs, Atom and photoshop at the same time without dying.
Sher: A pc screen that will not change the colors I use on the iPad would be nice, really
Which character are you most like? And why?
Athe: Phew I think the easy answer would be to say Akane ... But, Akane is a better person. : P
Sam: This is very difficult... They are all very different, but still I do not think I look much like any of them. If I have to say something, I could identify with Maske's tendency to avoid problems, and his more homey and calm side. And well… Since Akane has been an OC of mine for many years, surely I have something of her too.
Illy: I think I partly have Maske's instinct to stay out of trouble, and on the other hand Joe's shallowness, although tbh I wish I really did look like any of our awesome babies.
Sher: surprised because (unpopular opinion around here) is one of those who I "least care" about really but I would say that Pin because he is a little dumb, happy and probably has a Satanic room and proud of it
Favorite CG/art.
Athe: AT THE MOMENT. Maske chapter 1. It couldn't be more predictable. I know.
Sam: I quite agree with Maske in chapter 1. But I would also put Pin in chapter 5 and Akane in chapter 6.2 on the top.
Illy: Kyeran in Coco's tank ?? Is he even real? Being basic is my brand.
Sher: surprised again and disappointed but I would say that of angel Hasiel because I like pretty dresses, pretty hairs and pretty wings
Favorite BG/scene.
Athe: The Red Light District amazes me. I already liked the life of that place, its history, but the way of expressing it... Uggg Sher took it to another level. The dirt on the street, the night, the constricted buildings...
Sam: I think I’ll say Raziel’s square, I like it a lot from the first day.
Illy: I don't know if I can choose just one T__T but I would say that the Red Light District and Valefar's pub are at the top.
Sher: for not repeating the red light district that I also like very much, I really like the areas of Coco's laboratory, including the “main” area although the perspective is horrible and makes the characters look tiny, but I like how it looks :(
Your favorite chapter to date?
Athe: Ufff... The first and second one I assure you no, hahaha. I will say that the third one, but also for things that are not necessarily from the chapter, but of the production. It was a good moment. I felt that everything was flowing with ease. We all assumed a clear role, they were times that made us feel comfortable and capable of assuming what came next, I think it was a qualitative leap also, both in texts and in art.
Sam: Oh. Well let's see... Chapter 5 is amazing for me, for everything that happens but also because there are many personalized interactions and choices. I can't say I have a definitive favorite, but it could come close… Also from the last ones I really like the 6.2.
Illy: Chapter 5 has so many details, so many things happen, it's hard not to be my favorite. But the last ones with the specific routes are so great that if I stay with the 5 it’s with the  pain of my heart to have to choose one.
Sher: I would say 5 also because in the end when a lot of things happen is when you remember the most

Illy: Las traducciones a inglés.
Sher: Hago fonditos
Sam: Qué parte no… No sale bien.
Athe: Los nudos narrativos.
Y mirar cuantas líneas me quedan todavía.
Athe: Libretas, post-its, bolígrafos…
Sam: Ay. Pues a ver…

Genuinely wondering. Why do you think using the name lady noir(e) is rude to the Fandom? I know you're kind of over this subject so you don't have to answer
(I haven’t actually answered this question yet so you’re gucci c: )
So, and I forgot to mention it today because I didn’t scroll through for posts to reblog (whoops), but as of today we’ve had the show for 4 whole years! 4 years of Ladybug and Chat Noir saving the day. (Approximately a little less time for the fandom to take hold, but I’ll say about October 2015 with the French premiere was when the fandom really got going.)
Obviously the romance is a major focus of the show, so tumblr immediately had to get going with the tags. People quickly realized that the love square had different dynamics on each side, and came up with something for each part. Some pieces took time to workshop; during the early fandom I heard “Adrienbug” or “Chatmari,” and I think to this day we’re not completely sure what we prefer with “Adrienette.”
But if there was one ship name we nailed, it was “Ladynoir.” Of the four, this could easily be seen as the “main” ship of the show, as it is first and foremost a superhero show (so they’re always transformed at some point) and even at the beginning we saw their cute banter. I considered it so dominant, in fact, that my original tag for shippy content was just “ladynoir” even when I just meant any aspect of the love square. (A tag I gave up on when, yknow, I realized that the whole show was one big romance)
So in interacting with the fandom all these years, the staff knew well that we called one of the ships “Ladynoir.” Heck, they’ve been known to tease us on Twitter with “you guys will be happy with the Adrienette in this episode :)”, etc. This isn’t a fandom secret or something.
Now, I don’t know how long ZAG has been planning a kwami swap. It’s been a popular fan idea about as long as the show’s been on, certainly it had also been tossed around the writers room. But I don’t think they could have feasibly designed them before October 2015.
Even if they had? There would be 4 years before the episode actually hit screens. All the time that it takes to make an episode, from writing room floor to animation to dubbing, takes months. On a smaller time frame, say they designed Lady Noire and Mister Bug when they first started writing season 3, and sent out the doll designs immediately so the merch could get a head start; there were months between then and the script getting sent in for animation. Anybody with even a little fandom exposure could’ve said “yeah what if we tried a different name?” and workshopped it a bit before the lip flap animations were locked in.
They shouldn’t lock in bad ideas before sending them to animators, and in fact, we know they don’t: Nora was named “Nancy” in her first sketches, Queen Bee’s leaked design had a purse instead of the top, and don’t forget Zag leaked the season 2 powerups as a big reveal for the season… and it turned out they’d tossed the pearl idea and went with the potions. Things can and should change to make sure only the best ideas go in the episodes.
But all of that means that, way back when we first found out about the swap names, it was likely early enough that they hadn’t even gotten to animating Reflekdoll. (The fact that we’re not getting this episode until this week, despite having it in production for about a year, means they had plenty of time to change.)
Now, after typing and researching all of this, I’ve come to a realization: maybe ZAG did it instead as an homage to the ship name. The writers can definitely see our fandom, and the idea that they actually saw something from us and wanted to shout it out is kind of flattering. We can ask Thomas more about this in a couple days after the episode has aired.
Why I don’t want her to be Lady Noire? Because having a character take the exact name of a ship only serves to screw up tags. Fans group and find fanworks by ship name tags, and having something completely different come in and take the tag only confuses everyone. I mean, cartoon-makers are very familiar with the phenomenon: they have to strive to give characters and shows unique names so they stand out among other properties. It’s one of the reasons we get ‘Cat Noir’ instead of just ‘Black Cat.’ And for some of the creators being so active in the fandom, they know we love our tags and ship names. They should know better than to pick something so now we have confusion between the Ladynoir ship and Marinette with the black cat.
Anyway. They’ve had a lot of time for the backlash to set in, so maybe for the finalized ep they did go with different names. Heck, maybe this is why the ep took so long to make and kept getting pushed back – like I know there are some new models here, but not that many more than a typical new ep, right? Especially since Reflekta’s power is legit just “reuse Reflekta’s model.” Maybe, just maybe, renaming the hero(es) meant they had to go back and get the animators to change every instance that they mentioned the names (probably a good few times in the ep). Super unlikely but, as always, I can dream.
I just wrote more for this than I’ve often written for school assignments, soooooo I hope that answers the question. lol. and happy birthday ML!

Byzantine Nyctophilia
by Giovanni Gasbarri, ANAMED Senior Fellow (2019–2020)
Tumblr media
Anyone who has ever been a fellow or a guest at ANAMED would confirm this: nights here are, undeniably, very animated. Even if you prefer not to join the hyper-intense social life of the local community at Merkez Han, the stream of tourists, musicians, and bon vivants flowing along Istiklal Caddesi constantly remind you how the old Pera neighborhood, although radically transformed over the centuries, has never lost its energetic and cosmopolitan allure.
However, after a certain hour (usually around 3:30 am or so), the ANAMED building seems to fall into a sudden state of calm. Then, only a gentle whistle from the elevators and, occasionally, alley cats fighting in the streets can be heard. That is the moment when bats, introverts, and other eerie creatures of the night are allowed to emerge from the shadows and finally live their moment of glory. It is also, undeniably, the most creative and productive time in the study room on the 3rd floor. Unfortunately, I have always found it extremely difficult to persuade other fellows of that.
Tumblr media
ANAMED: the study room at night
As a Byzantine art historian and a resolute night owl—the two attributes being concurrent, but apparently not consequential—sometimes I love indulging myself with the idea that artists in Byzantium might have shared my personal preference for nocturnal atmospheres. Indeed, for a culture that had developed such a highly sophisticated aesthetic based on the symbolic and soteriological values of light, Byzantium seems to have also cultivated a surprisingly serene relationship with the visualization of the night. Truth be told, Byzantine religious iconography used to associate darkness with some of the most tragic episodes in the Christological narrative, such as the Agony in the Garden and the Crucifixion. In a famous sixth-century representation of Gethsemane from the Rossano Gospels, Christ’s loneliness is emphasized by the presence of a dark background, and the colors are so dense and deep that they permanently stained the parchment on the verso of the same folio.

The night sky, however, often played a positive role in Christian imagery, functioning as a dramatic tool to highlight (pun intended) some crucial moments of the divine revelation and to express the universal potency of God’s nature. The star of Bethlehem descends from a deep blue hemicycle to brighten the darkness of the cave in Byzantine Nativity scenes; golden stars decorate the maphorion of the Theotokos in numerous icons, mosaics, and wall paintings; and in an early seventh-century icon at Mount Sinai, a gleaming, starry night sky surrounds the austere figure of Christ as the Ancient of Days.

Byzantine secular arts also seem to reveal a fascination with the night. Much of this attitude was due to the robust Greco-Roman cosmological tradition, which the Byzantines constantly updated and reinterpreted in their own ways. The luxurious Vat. gr. 1291, a ninth-century copy of the Procheiroi Kanones by Ptolemy, has preserved a calendar table in which the hours of the night, depicted as dark-skinned female busts, surround the chariot of the sun, providing the necessary counterpart to daylight. Another folio in the same manuscript shows a majestic astrological representation of the night sky, in which numerous classical personifications of constellations, delicately sketched in white paint, emerge from a deep blue background.

Ancient archetypes contributed to religious iconography, too, and led to some very eclectic (and sometimes curious) results. The well-known Paris Psalter (BNF gr. 139), produced in the mid-tenth century for the court of Constantinople, has preserved some quintessential examples of the enthusiasm for classical imagery that characterized aristocratic artistic production during the so-called Macedonian Renaissance. Among the plethora of Hellenizing personifications that accompany various characters from the Old Testament we can find the elegant Nyx, the personification of the night, depicted as one of the three protagonists in the episode of the Vision of Isaiah. She is clad in a long flowing peplum and her airy blue veil, decorated with little white dots like a starry sky, floats over her head while she gently moves away from the scene, pointing a torch to the ground. The sense of the whole composition is easy to understand: Isaiah’s vision takes place at a very specific moment when the night is slowly making way for the dawn of a new day, Orthros, represented as a cheerful young boy holding a flaming torch.

The representation of the night sky as a precious veil is also included in one of the most notable masterpieces of late Byzantine art in Constantinople. In the Last Judgment scene preserved in the parekklesion of the Kariye Museum (ex-Chora Monastery), visitors can still see the representation of an angel wrapping the starry sky in a roll as if it were an expensive silk fabric, similar to those for which the Byzantine capital was celebrated all over Europe. I have always loved to think of this scene not as an act of destruction but, rather, as an attentive gesture of conservation. The angel is not tearing the sky apart: he is carefully folding and storing away a valuable artifact that is not needed anymore. Another example of Byzantine nyctophilia? Perhaps….

Soft Petals, Chapter III
It’s finally here! This chapter finally gets into a bit of the actual romance aside from banter, and I’m introducing a bit of an overall plot as well (nothing overly seriously or anything, as this is still mostly a fluff piece). I hope you enjoy! If you haven’t read the other two chapters, I’m going to post links to them at the bottom (both to the tumblr posts and to AO3). You can read this chapter on AO3 here
Chapter One: Tumblr and AO3
Chapter Two: Tumblr and AO3
The early morning air was crisp and dew still lay kissing the grass around the campsite as a single ray of light came to rest on the face of the sleeping princess. She huffed, roused just enough to be irritated, and she turned her head this way and that in an attempt to stay comfortable and avoid the obnoxious responsibilities the sun brought with it. Finding no solace on her back, Zelda rolled onto her side and pressed her face into the warmth of her knight, nuzzling and nestling in soft delight. Link, still very much asleep, reactively wrapped his arm around her and pulled in her closer. Mornings like this, Zelda thought, were well worth her hundred years’ inconvenience at the hands of Ganon.
As what felt like hours passed, Zelda rested gently against her lover and sighed in contentment as she felt him begin rubbing her head as he played with her hair. He placed a slow and soft kiss on her head as he began to awaken, wrapping his other arm around her and turning to face her.
“Good morning,” he mumbled into her neck.
“Good morning yourself,” Zelda giggled in reply. She’d learned early on that he was very affectionate when he first woke up, a secret she was more than happy to exploit every morning.
“Come on now hero. It’s time to get up,” she whispered after a while. “You know we can’t keep Paya waiting.”
Link grumbled as Zelda pried herself off of him and stood up. He knew she was right, but he had taken quite a liking to sleepy mornings ever since they began sharing a bed.
One of these days I’m keeping her in bed all day, he thought to himself.
His eyes drifted over to Zelda and watched as she stripped off her nightgown and began dressing for the day. She winked over her shoulder when she noticed him looking and Link turned his head away in embarrassment at being caught, his face turning bright pink. Zelda laughed and threw her nightgown at him, which only served to make him blush even harder. He stood and turned to get dressed himself, tossing the nightgown onto Zelda’s pack.
This girl….
Paya looked up from the fire where she’d been cooking breakfast to see Link and Zelda emerge from their tent. She smiled as Link ran a hand through his hair in a fairly useless attempt to calm it. He’d taken to wearing his hair down lately, something about Zelda preferring it that way. Paya certainly wasn’t complaining either. It was shorter than it was when he wore it in his tiny ponytail, but it was still long enough to blow handsomely in the breeze. When the wind caught it gently it seemed as if he were enveloped in a halo of gold, and he seemed utterly divine.
Paya shook her head in an attempt to clear her thoughts. She had got to stop daydreaming about him like that.
“Good morning Princess! Master Link!” Paya called, waving a poker with a sausage on the end. Zelda giggled at the sight, causing Paya to blush just as Link had. It still took her quite some time to stop being nervous around new people, and the added royalty of the woman in front of her certainly wasn’t helping things.
“I made breakfast,” Paya stuttered, offering up plates to the couple.
“I can see that! Thank you so very much Paya,” Zelda replied, eliciting a blush from Paya.
Link was silent. He was far too busy stuffing his mouth with the eggs Paya had prepared, and he was eyeing the sausage with the look of a starving cat. Zelda snickered and handed him a biscuit from the meal bag as she sat down.
“So, what’s the plan for today?” Paya asked, sitting across from the pair with her own plate.
“I’d like to make it over to the old research laboratory near the castle, and hopefully poke around a bit for any surviving manuscripts or other items that might still be lying around the old place,” Zelda responded. “I know Robbie and Purah grabbed what they could in their escape, but I’m hoping there are even more useful materials buried in the rubble. Functioning or not, everything that we can salvage I’d like to. It all will help us rebuild the kingdom and help the people of Hyrule live better, safer lives.”
Link swallowed and said, “That’s a good day’s ride from here, especially if something catches our eyes on the way there.”
“I can ride ahead and secure the route and the lab if you’d like, your majesty,” Paya offered. I doubt I would run into much trouble, and I can ensure the lab is kept free of looters for one more night now that the monsters are mostly gone.”
Zelda smiled.
“I would very much appreciate that, Paya. Thank you.”
“Then I’d best be going!” Paya smiled, blushing once again.
She grabbed her already packed bag and jumped over their heads, landing on her horse seemingly without any sort of impact. She coaxed it into a sprint off towards the lab, waving behind her as she did. Link and Zelda waved goodbye in return, then set about cleaning up the rest of the campsite and packing their gear into the saddlebags.
“Well,” Link said after about half an hour, “that looks to be everything.”
He ran his hands through his hair again, brushing it back and clearing it off his shoulders.
“Not everything,” Zelda smirked, placing her hand gently against his chest. “There’s some unfinished business we need to take care of before we go.”
Her hand traced down to his waistband and she slipped a finger inside before walking slowly backwards, coaxing him towards the privacy of the forest hill next to their camp.
Hylia, this girl…
This wasn’t the first time Link had had sex with Zelda in the privacy of the woods, and he doubted it would be the last. He guessed (correctly) that she had picked up on how he had higher levels of energy when immersed in nature, supposedly due to his connection to some ancient forest goddess, and his princess was never one to shy away from an advantageous situation.
She loved getting him on his back like this – naked and staring up in loving awe at her as she admired his incredible form from her spot on her knees between his legs. His muscles were incredibly well defined, and his numerous scars showed off just how many battles he’d fought valiantly in. There was, of course, the one large and circular scar on his chest where the guardian’s beam hit her champion all those years ago and sentenced him to a century in stasis. The Shrine of Resurrection had, thankfully, healed it quite nicely and caused it and his other scars to fade to a soft pink against his tan skin. She knew he was self-conscious about them, so she always took care to trace them gently with her finger and give them equally gentle kisses.
Her eyes traced his chest down to his pelvis, teasing him by purposefully avoiding looking at him where he most wanted her to. Her hands ran down his body and made him shiver as they made their way to his thighs. She knew she wasn’t the only one getting a show. She could plainly see him ogling her, his eyes indecisive as to where they wanted to land as they bounced between her breasts, her waist, her lips, her hands, her eyes. He almost had the same look as when he was staring at a delicious meal, but the hunger was deeper. Much deeper. Zelda leaned down and placed her lips gently against Link’s pointed ear, her warm breath causing it to twitch as he shuddered in anticipation.
“Show me what you’ve got, hero.”
“This specimen is truly fascinating,” Zelda posited from atop her horse. “I wonder if there’s any record of it in the old lab.”
The pair had been on the road for a few hours now, having finished their business at the now abandoned before the sun reached its apex in the sky. The horses were trotting along at a casual pace and Zelda had taken the opportunity to get out the purple Silent Princess and her notebook, hoping to get some useful notes taken down to pass the time. Link on the other hand was alert and watching the roads, just as he had when he accompanied the princess all those years ago on her travels across Hyrule. He had his bow across his lap and was idly popping nuts into his mouth as he scanned the horizon for any sign of trouble.
The Yiga had seemingly disappeared after Koga’s defeat, with the stragglers vanishing once Ganon had been destroyed. Link wasn’t going to take that at face value, however. He didn’t trust them to truly be gone, and he was always wary of travelers he met along the road - especially those that smelled like bananas. Monsters were obvious and easy to spot; the Yiga Clan was not.
Link glanced over at Zelda and smiled. The sunlight was catching her hair in such a way that her golden locks seemed ablaze with a gentle fire. Her forehead was contorted into an almost comical depiction of focus as she stared at the flower in her hand before taking a few brief moments to sketch what she saw and make little notes on the sides of the page. The particulars of her field notes didn’t especially interest him. Link understood them most of the time, a product of the two of them sharing the same tutors back in their castle upbringing. He just wasn’t as captivated by the specifics at the moment. He was perfectly happy to sit and watch his love excitedly obsess over a new specimen, and he knew he’d hear all about it once she was finished. Besides, he had a habit of reading her research journals by candlelight when he had trouble sleeping; they relaxed him while helping him keep up with her at the same time.
He looked back towards the road and saw a familiar figure emerging from the road behind a hill. The humorously large backpack and shuffling pace gave away their identity in even the briefest of glances, and Link was more than happy to see his friend appear.
“’Hoy there Beedle!” he called, waving from his saddle.
Beedle straightened up in excitement and waved back, shuffling faster towards the pair.
Zelda placed the flower back in the research container she’d stored it in and closed her book, returning both to her satchel. She rolled her head in an attempt to pop her neck and let loose a yawn as she too waved to their traveling merchant friend.
“Hey there Mister Link! Your highness!” Beedle exclaimed as they neared each other. “What brings you out this way?”
“Oh, just taking in the sights,” Link replied with a smirk.
Zelda chuckled.
“I wanted to take a survey of what’s left of the kingdom. It’s quite different from when I last was here.”
Beedle grinned.
“Yes ma’am, I suppose it would be! I hope you’re enjoying being out in the fresh air like this! Say, Link. You wouldn’t happen to have anything for me, would you?”
“Oh, I’ve got the stuff,” Link laughed, pulling a small box out of his pack. “I was hoping we’d run into you, actually. I’ve got five good specimens in there for you.”
Brimming with excitement, Beedle took the box and cracked open the lid to reveal the five Rhino Beetles within.
“THAAAAAANK YOU,” Beedle shouted, turning about ecstatically in place. “Beedle loves beetles!”
He tossed a money pouch to Link, who caught it in one hand and put it in his saddlebag. He’d told Beedle time and time again that he was happy to gather beetles for free, but the man had insisted on payment. Link decided that using that extra money to further the rebuilding of Hyrule was a better use than having it sit around in his house gathering dust, so he began just accepting the rupees and handing them over to people who needed them more when he came across them. He wasn’t really sure why Beedle loved rhino beetles so much, much less what he used them for, but he was happy to oblige his quirky friend’s interest.
“Well Beedle, it was good seeing you. We need to keep moving though if we want to catch up to the rest of our crew on schedule,” Link said with a smile.
“Don’t let me keep you! You two stay safe now!” Beedle replied with a wide grin before giving the pair a wave and shuffling down the road once more.
The sun was low in the sky as Link and Zelda neared the ruins of the old research laboratory. Zelda felt tears well up in her eyes as she took in the sight of one of her favorite places from before the Great Calamity. It was truly a decrepit sight - the walls and ceiling were collapsed in places, the windows were burst out and their glass littered the ground beneath them, the wooden door had mostly rotted away, and vines were creeping all along the guardian laser scorch marks on the sides. This had been her sanctuary away from her father back before the Great Calamity, and now it was decayed beyond repair.
Just one more thing taken from me.
Wiping the tears from her eyes, Zelda dismounted her horse and began walking towards the lab. Link followed, coming to a stop next to her at the door.
“Glad to see you two made it here safely. I take it there wasn’t any trouble along the road?” Paya said, emerging from around the side of the building.
Link shook his head and asked, “Anything interesting happen on your way here?”
“Nothing to report, sir,” Paya replied with a wink.
She was almost surprised at how informal she’d gotten with Link, chalking it up to how much time they’d ended up spending together since he woke from stasis. Once she had gotten to know someone she was much more comfortable being herself, and with Link that had taken even less time to occur than normal. He had a friendly air about him that caused nearly everyone to take to him within the span of a single conversation, and he had quite a few friends and lovesick admirers throughout the kingdom.
It’s almost too bad he’s chosen the princess, she thought, sighing to herself.
Zelda reached down to the small Sheikah lantern hanging from her waist and flicked the switch on the side, casting a pale blue glow on the grass as she walked to the door. She reached for the handle and pulled it, causing it to come right off in her hands. She huffed, drew back, and kicked hard against the rotting door. It burst open and fell off its long-rusted hinges, crashing to the floor with a thud. Zelda stepped over it and entered the dark room. Link and Paya followed suit, lighting their lanterns as well.
“Let’s spread out and see what’s left for us to salvage,” Zelda suggested as she walked towards the bookshelf in the back of the room.
After a few minutes of the trio searching the cabinets and counters and shelves for anything worth taking, Zelda gasped.
“Oh good! It’s still here!”
Link looked over at her quizzically.
“What’s still here?”
Zelda held up a small key and flashed a smile at the knight.
“You’ll see. Now help me clear these rocks over here.”
Link and Paya set about assisting the princess in digging out, well, whatever it was she was looking for, taking care to avoid any rubble that looked like it was acting as a makeshift support for the ceiling. Pretty soon their goal was revealed to them: a trap door on the floor with a lock built into the frame. Zelda clapped her hands in delight, a sight that for a moment catapulted Link back to that incident with the frog by the lake.
“Oh, I do hope everything down there is safe!” Zelda exclaimed, inserting the key into the lock.
With a solid CLUNK they heard the mechanisms inside the lock open, and Zelda carefully pried open the door to reveal an iron ladder descending into the blackness below. She quickly climbed down, descending two rungs at a time. Her companions followed after her, a little more cautiously than their energetic ruler.
When they reached the bottom, they found Zelda standing inside the now open doorway to a large room. Link found it odd that the room seemed from where he stood to be well lit by a blue glow similar to the one emitted from their lamps, only several times brighter – similar to the ancient forges he’d lit at the two Sheikah researchers’ labs – considering the abandoned nature of the rest of the building. He looked over to Zelda, who had on her face a look of both confusion and delight.
“Well,” she started. “That’s new.”
