No Control- Peter Parker x Reader
Prompt:
Hey, can you do a Peter Parker x Reader imagine, where the reader is really really shy, and Peter is under the impression that the reader hates him, until one day at Avenger Headquarters. He sees her there, and learns that she has electric powers, and that's why she usually keeps to herself. Her powers are triggered by strong emotions, such as a crush. so she stays away from Peter, until a mission and he saves her, then you can decide what happens. ^.^ thank you! + For the drabble thing. Y/N and Peter dance together. At first nervous but then they get comfortable and confess feelings.
P.S. Read my previous post about changes made to the prompt, I messed up sorry :(

Your name: submit What is this?
Peter wasn’t sure what he’d done, or if he’d even done anything at all. All he knew was that Y/N left the room every time he entered, kept their conversations to one-word answers, and was generally cold towards him. He was nice to her when they’d first met at HQ, he had no reason not to be. She didn’t say much, just that she was a trainee. And although she said “See you around”, it was very clear she wanted nothing to do with him. Peter wanted to befriend her, she was the only other person at HQ younger than 30 besides Wanda. He didn’t want to come off as pushy or bother her too much so he kept his distance.
You, on the other hand, had no idea you were coming off so rudely. Painfully shy is the only way you could describe yourself. You’d been harboring a crush on Peter ever since the two of you met. Your powers, the result of a freak accident, gave you the ability to manipulate and absorb electricity. As confusing and unpredictable as they were, they seemed to intensify whenever he was around, so you always made a point of excusing yourself before all the boroughs of NYC were without power.
You were avoiding him that morning as well.
Wanda had made a stack of pancakes for the two of you to share. You doused your pile in syrup, cutting it up into little triangles; something Wanda always teased you for.
“Eat them like a normal person Y/N!”
You roll your eyes at her, a smile gracing your features. “Shh Wanda, I’m trying to eat in peace.”
You take in the background noise of the television, enjoying the quiet of the early morning. You heard the sound of a cabinet door opening and feet on the kitchen floor. Peter. “Morning Wanda, morning Y/N,” he greets. Perfectly friendly. You feel your face heat up as you mumble a hello, pushing your plate away and excusing yourself. “I-uh, I have to go,” you stutter, eyes on the ground as you brush past Peter. Just as you had done every day before that. Just as you had done every time you happened to be in the same room together. The flickering lights didn’t go unnoticed. Peter frowns but doesn’t say anything to stop you. Peter looks at Wanda, expecting some kind of explanation, but she just shrugs. That was something she would leave to you.
You take a turn down the hallway, getting onto an elevator down a couple of floors, and into a training room, wanting to collect yourself before your embarrassment got the best of you. You drop to the floor, sitting against the wall and bringing your knees to your chest. You close your eyes, focusing on getting Peter’s stupid face out of your head.
You try to concentrate, tilting your head up to examine the tiles of lights on the ceiling. You hold a hand up, flicking your fingers from left to right, watching the lights illuminate from one end of the room to the other. You feel the tingle in your fingers, the barely there sparks. You let out a sigh, wishing for the hundredth time that week that you were normal. You watch the lights turn on and off, the repetition of it almost therapeutic. You are so caught up in your own thought you don’t hear the approaching footsteps or the call of your name. Not until he is right in front of you.
You drop your hands, the room enveloped in darkness for a second. You bring the lights back on, eyes still glued to the floor.
“How did you find me?” was all you could bring yourself to say.
He shrugs, sliding down the wall and sitting beside you, “F.R.I.D.A.Y sees all.”
You don’t know what to say, feeling embarrassed and ridiculous and confused because you don’t know what exactly it is about him that makes it hard to speak. He breaks the silence.
“I’ve never seen you do that. Use your powers I mean.”
You still don't look up at him, “Yeah they're pretty unpredictable.” You fall silent again.
“Are you ok Y/N? Did I do something to upset you? I was only ever trying to-”
You rush to correct him, not wanting him to think any of it was his fault. “No, no, I just-”, you feel the heat rising in your cheeks and you force yourself to turn and make eye contact, “I’m shy. Really shy. Not the greatest socially.”
Peter just nods, but then a smile begins to break on his face. You wonder what is so damn funny but he speaks before you can, “So you don't hate me?”
You suppose you really shouldn’t be surprised at this, your behavior wasn't indicative of anything else. “No, Peter I don't hate you.” Quite the opposite. “Sorry if I made you think so.”
He doesn't make you feel worse about it than you already do, just flashes you an understanding smile. “You’re forgiven.”
You sigh, relieved that he wasn't holding it against you.
“On one condition.”
Your eyes widen at this, unsure of what would come out of his mouth next. “What are you talking about?”
“We hang out a couple of times a week. Can do whatever you want.”
You think about it. About how much time that would give you to embarrass yourself.
“Come on Y/N, I need some friends my own age.”
“Okay, fine.” You nod.
Peter claps you on the shoulder, a grin on his face. “Great.”
You return his smile. This should be interesting.
You weren’t wrong. The last two months had been a whirlwind of movie nights, board games, food trucks, and minor missions together. He had even introduced you to Michelle and Ned. They were always brutally honest and blunt, forcing you to come out of your shell. You were comfortable around them; there wasn’t ever a need for mindless small talk.
You were happy nonetheless, and given your newfound comfort around Peter you were like a completely new person, he could hardly believe it. During the time you had spent together, Peter had grown quite fond of you, he could never tell you of course, despite the fact that it was incredibly obvious to everyone except you. You never even let yourself entertain the possibility that Peter might like you back. You were practicing, pretty much every night on how to control your powers, blaming anything that happened unintentionally while you were around Peter on “figuring out the kinks”.
It was a quiet night, the two of you sprawled out on the couch. You’re on your back, holding a book above your face. Peter is laying on his side, his head resting on his arm as he scrolls through his news feed. He occasionally stares at you hoping you would notice, and when you didn’t he nudges you repeatedly with his foot.
“Come on Y/N, I’m bored. Let’s do something.”
You lower your book and turn to face him, “I don’t know, I’m having a pretty good time.”
He frowns in response but the look on his face says he’s thinking. “You know, I heard this song the other day, 80’s I think. Really catchy.”
You raise an eyebrow at him, “Where are you going with this Peter?”
“Hey F.R.I.D.A.Y, play ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’”. The music fills the room, breaking the silence.
He doesn’t say anything else, just stands up and starts moving clumsily around the room, moving his arms dramatically along the music.
You can’t help but burst into laughter, a hand going up to cover your mouth. Peter frowns at you, noticing that you still hadn’t moved from your spot on the couch. He moves towards you, a hand outstretched, staring you down with a ridiculous grin on his face. “Come on Y/N, I know you want to.”
“I can’t dance Peter!”
“And I can?”
“Yeah you’re right, I did just witness something atrocious didn’t I.”
He shakes his head, his fingers wrapping themselves around your wrist and pulling you upwards.
“Not fair Peter! Super-strength and all.” You stand up the rest of the way, Peter pulling you towards him and performing some sort of awkward side step, before once again launching into his previous routine of jumping around and swinging his arms about. You mimic him, shouting playful insults at his moves as you do so. A couple of weeks ago, you never would have done this. Not in front of anyone. Definitely not in front of Peter.
You yell along to the lyrics, arms outstretched as you dance around the living room. “I wanna dance with somebody, I wanna feel the heat with somebody!”
Peter finds himself stopping, watching you as you parade around the room. He notices how bright your eyes are, the sheen of sweat on your skin and the red flush in your cheeks. An adoring smile creeps up on his face. He can’t help it.
You notice his stillness and the smile on his face. You squint your eyes at him, moving to stand in front of him. “Hey, I can’t be looking like an idiot all by myself you know.”
His smile only gets wider and a little laugh escapes his lips as his gaze falls to the floor. “What?”
“It’s nothing,” he mumbles.
You furrow your brows, not happy with his response. “Nope, it’s definitely something.”
His gaze returns to your face and only then do you realize how close the two of you are; faces mere inches apart. You can feel your heart hammering in your chest. His eyes flicker to your lips for a millisecond, but you catch it and before you even stop yourself, your hands are on either side of his face and your lips are pressed against his. Peter doesn’t move for a moment, clearly shocked, before reciprocating. It all feels warm and safe, and you taste peppermint and take notice of the way his hands press into your hips. Your whole body feels like it’s tingling, vibrating, and even with your eyes closed you know the lights are flickering on and off. Peter pulls back unexpectedly, a surprised sound leaving his lips. “You totally shocked me Y/N!” He’s not mad though, he’s just smiling at you, his hands still at your sides.
You mumble an apology, cheeks burning red, and you bury your face in his chest, nervous and giddy and excited all at the same time.
“That was-,”
“Nice,” you finish. “Really nice.” You step out of his embrace, eyeing his bright eyes and boyish smile.
“I didn’t think you liked me back,” he says after a moment.
You frown, “I never said anything, because you know, I’m me and I didn’t think you saw me that way either.”
“Literally everyone knew except you two idiots!” You jump slightly as the voice and you turn to see Wanda peeking her head around the corner. She doesn’t say anything else, just sends a wink in your direction and saunters off.
You groan, acutely aware of all the teasing that would be soon coming your way. You lean back into Peter, enjoying the feeling of his arms wrapped securely around you. “Hey, remember when you absolutely hated me and wanted nothing to do with me?”
You move your head slightly to peek up at him, sincerity in your words, “You know I could never.”
