I totally read this ask when I woke up in the middle of the night and was too sleep drunk to respond. I'm posting today but it won't be for a few hours so here you go 🥰🖤

Anna finishes piling eggs and bacon on a plate for Mike and he presumes Kie as well, and excuses herself to go get ready for the day, and "hopefully" find her daughter along the way.

JJ waits until she's out of ear shot before fully turning towards Mike, wanting his uncensored opinion. "How's Kie been about going back?"

He wouldn't have asked so straight forward, or even at all in the past, but things between him and Mike aren't so surface level any more. At least with this topic. The times were few and far between that they were even alone long enough to have this sort of conversation but JJ wasn't about to let another opportunity pass him by to get some intel on his girlfriend's mental state.

For whatever reason, JJ was jumpy about this; her going back to school. Was probably on edge more than Kie was about it, and he didn't even know why. Fucking anxiety.

Maybe he just didn't want there to be any more problems for her. She'd been through fucking hell and barely made it to the other side. Maybe he didn't want anyone to say anything stupid. Because people were stupid. He'd almost decked a few kids for comments they made about that night. Shitty rumors being tossed around; started by neighbors and other locals that heard and saw a bit of commotion, but had no idea what actually transpired.

Regardless, his question about Kie's current state of mind was important, if only to assuage his own nerves about her being able to handle it. Just needed to be a little prepared.

Mike's eyes dart around JJ's face, making him pull back like he had a laser on him. "What?"

"Kie's alright," Mike says assuredly. "Think she's ready to be out of the house."

JJ scoffs a laugh. "Yeah, I can imagine." He rests his head on his hand, feeling his eyelids growing heavy.

"JJ?" Mike says, little louder to gain his clearly drifting focus.

It startles him back and makes him blink harshly. "What's up?" he says, looking around, not unlike he did before.

"Are you alright?"

JJ blinks a couple times, working out the words he heard and assigning them meaning based on the seventeen years of hearing the English language. You'd think it'd be easier to comprehend.

"Uh, um what?"

Mike's face settles into a more recognizable emotion, though it being on his face in regards to JJ was strange. But he doesn't miss the piercing brown eyes that mirrors Kie's, as it hits him that Mike is concerned.

"Are you okay? You seem a little...off."

"I'm fine," he says instinctively.

       esther and her family have lived in the new world for two decades. she had helpful knowledge about nature and the plants in this world, which were partly so different from tatia’s home.

       today, esther wanted to show tatia a place where medicinal plants grew, and the young woman had visited esther’s house. to her surprise, however, esther did not seem to be present.

       "esther?"

       she circled the hut in search of esther, hoping she might be in the adjacent garden but found a young man instead. she knew this must be a son of esther – she had often seen the family together from a distance.

       "excuse me, i didn’t mean to disturb. esther had invited me to show me something, but she doesn’t seem to be here…" she paused as she eyed the young man, whereby subconsciously a small smile appeared on her lips.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

My Sera backstory fic, A Pot to Piss In, was my big personal project this year (most of what I wrote otherwise was exchange fics, actually) and I am really immensely happy with it. It was so much fun to dig into everything we're given on Sera's life and history in canon and synthesize it into a story that made sense to me in terms of who she grew up to be and is still growing into.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

100% did not expect the Briala/F!Tabris fic I'm working on now to be the longest single fic I've ever written. One minute I was squeeing to @chocochipbiscuit about an idea I might maybe write sometime and then the next thing I knew I was winning a NaNoWriMo. What has happened.

Don't look at me but I can't help but think that Al-Haitham might be the third person who he'd connect with the most / see himself reflected the most (being the first Diluc and then Xiao) and this teaser made me consider it even more than before. Putting aside the fact that he's also a truth seeker but at the same time, he archives history, he knows where the limits are and he knows better than trespass them and I think that is a genuine bonus point to look at him with good eyes. There is also a leaked line of Al-Haitham talking about gods that is pretty similar to something Dain said in Nahida's miscellany that caught my attention a long time ago and I can't stress enough how excited I am to see his miscellany and see if I'm on the money here—
