The MW2 boys reaction to you calling them pretty boy
Tumblr media
w/ Price, Gaz, Ghost, Soap, Alejandro, Rudy
warnings?: swearing, mentions of drinking
*gn reader ( can be read as any gender ! )
!-!more under the cut!-!
John Price:
—You calling him pretty boy would definitely catch him off guard.
—Honestly he thinks it's a dare
—Depending on how well he knows you he might let it slide, unless you're in public or around other members of 141, then he'll reprimand you for it.
—Secretly enjoys it but tries not to show any reaction
"Drinking all by yourself pretty boy?"
John's head snapped in your direction, seeing you leaning against the counter. He was currently at the bar having a drink though your presence completely caught him off guard. He eyed you up and down before taking another sip of his drink, already sensing the headache inducing conversation ahead. "Pretty boy?" He questioned, his body jolting in a silent laugh, though it was more out of disbelief than anything. "Never call me that again Sergeant." "Yes sir."
Kyle "Gaz" Garrick:
—Did he hear you right?
—Is honestly super flustered but is very happy with the new nickname, he's still very confused at the suddenness of it though.
—He's super smiley all day afterwards like it's all he can think about. Price had to ask him what was had happened to make him so happy.
Gaz was going through a routine pre-workout stretch in the training room. He had more of a lean build compared to some of his mates and though that doesn't make him any less capable it still made him feel as though he has to keep up sometimes. "Nice arms you got there pretty boy!" He turned his head in your direction, his eyebrows raised as he watched you wink at him before disappearing into the hallway. He beamed, feeling a bit more energized than before. He completed his workout with a confidence boost, nobody could tear Gaz down that day. He knew he was getting questioning looks from Price about his smiley attitude but he didn't care.
Simon "Ghost" Riley:
—He's so confused? Like did you really just say that to him of all people?? The guy wearing the mask all the time???
—Like Price, he thinks it's a dare or a joke you got forced into by Soap or something
—Doesn't know how to take random genuine compliments that have no context so please bare with him
—Might just fully ignore you honestly, especially if its early mornings
Ghost sighed as he walked into the common room. Soap and Gaz were talking about something in the corner of the room while Price seemed to be sat reviewing some files, you standing over his shoulder. You noticed him first, your eyes catching his as he stood in the doorway. You nodded your head at him, "Morning pretty boy." He blinked at you, seeing if you were serious. It wasn't something he had expected to leave your mouth and he didn't know how to react, he was thankful for his mask at times like these. Noticing your greeting, Price had turned and nodded to him as well before the both of you went back to looking at the files. He mumbled a "Fuckin' 'ell" as he walked deeper into the room. He just hoped that nickname wouldn't stick.
John "Soap" MacTavish:
—He easily accepts the new nickname with a smirk
—Two can play that game 'cause he'll definitely flirt back a little to be honest
—You're just adding fuel to his ego ya know
—Like Gaz he's just a big ole happy boy after you call him pretty boy
Soap was with Ghost in the locker room on base. He was chatting with Ghost, though it was more like he was talking while Ghost was listening, only giving input when he felt necessary. You'd walked in when Soap had just taken off his tactical vest, leaving him in nothing but a tight black shirt. A whistle cut through the air, catching the attention of both men. "Looking good pretty boy." Soap's expression morphed from confusion to that of an amused one. A smirk rested on his lips as he crossed his arms. "Not lookin' too bad yourself there la' " He winked before hearing Ghost groan about how you two were being gross.
Alejandro Vargas:
—It catches him off guard much like Price but he quickly gets over his shock
—Like Soap he's more than likely to flirt back with you
—Finds it funny, especially if it comes from nowhere
—Will tease you to hide his own flustered state
You were currently occupying yourself by cleaning off one of your favorite submachine guns. It was then that Alejandro had walked in with Rodolfo. They were both coated in sweat after a morning run which Rudy had immediately left to wash off. You would have joined them both had you not been minorly injured on one of the recent expeditions. You weren't complaining though, you got to rest all day and take in sights like this. A smirk found its way onto your face as your eyes scanned over Alejandro's form. "Welcome back pretty boy." Alejandro shook his head, a smile resting on his face. "Ten cuidado amigo/a, falling for me can be dangerous." (Be careful, friend)
Rodolfo Parra:
—He's flattered to say the least, he definitely wasn't expecting it but he's not mad at all
—Like Gaz and Soap he's very smiley afterwards
—You made his day with such a simple compliment and he secretly hopes the nickname will stick cause it makes his heart flutter.
Rodolfo was currently training some new recruits for Los Vaqueros, yelling semi-threatening words of encouragement as he watched them run the track. The yelling along with the heat had made him a bit lightheaded though he fought against the feeling. He jolted when a hand clapped his back, turning to see your face greeting him with a smile. "You doing alright pretty boy?" If you asked Rudy later he'd definitely blame the blush rising in his cheeks on the heat. "S-Sí, I'm ok." You tilted your head, unhooking your hip flask from your belt. You held it out to him "Cuídate Rudy." (Take care of yourself) He nodded, grabbing the flask from your hand and taking a big sip before handing it back to you. "Gracias." "De nada."

Mary Fowler x Reader
Summary: You're a bit of a wallflower
Tumblr media
You've never really paid much attention to the Australian girls on your team. That wasn't to say that you didn't get on with them. Hayley and Alanna were a laugh to be around but it's not like you always hung out with them.
You tended to be stuck to Esme's side, your best friend since childhood. You didn't really need anyone else when you had Esme. She was calm and sweet and was happy to just sit making friendship bracelets while you curled up next to her and read a book.
Most of the time the two of you were just in your own little world which is probably why when Mary Fowler got announced as a new signing, it completely went over your head.
You were completely blindsided when she turned up to training days later in a Man City training shirt. You didn't let it show on your face though as you ran through drills, ate lunch and then did more drills.
You had night training as well so you hunkered down in the break room with a blanket and a book, curling up on the sofa with Esme next to you.
The Australian girls joined you a few minutes later, whispering amongst each other. Occasionally, they glanced up at you before looking back down again when they saw your confused look.
You went back to your book, momentarily reaching your wrist out for Esme to measure as she weaved a new bracelet.
"They're not dating," You heard Hayley mutter," I'm sure of it. They've never done anything remotely coupley."
"Private but not secret?" Alanna wondered," They're always around each other. I've seen them feeding each other before. That's pretty coupley."
You almost laughed. Yes, Esme sometimes fed you food straight off her plate and, yes, you were always around each other but that's how you'd always been. You had been next door neighbours for years.
Esme was the taller of the two of you so had often times been seen leading you around by a hand or feeding you when she thought you weren't eating enough.
It's just how you were.
"Guys," Mary whispered," Stop it. It's weird."
"We're only doing this for you," Alanna said," You're silly little crush might come true."
"Shut up."
"No," Hayley said before raising her voice," Hey, Esme, are you dating y/n?"
Esme looks up in confusion. Clearly, she hadn't been secretly following the conversation like you had. "No? Why?"
Hayley looked triumphant as she nudged Mary harshly in the ribs before flashing you a blinding smile. "Mary's got a crush on you, y/n. Please let her take you out on a date."
"Oh..." Your cheeks suddenly felt flushed. "Er...yeah, alright then."
You hadn't thought much about the date. In all honesty, you were feeling super flattered that someone even had a crush on you. You tended to fade into the background until needed. You hadn't even realised Mary had noticed you.
You just turned up at the nice restaurant Mary had asked to met at and smiled. You felt a little nervous. You hadn't been on a date since you were fifteen and a boy asked you out from the school across the way.
You said yes and it ended with Esme punching him in the nose after she found out he had asked you out on a dare. It was the most violent you had ever seen her.
You leaned over the table as you opened up your menu. "Don't turn around," You said," But Alanna and Hayley are dressed in trench coats and sunglasses behind you."
"Esme's wearing a bad wig and a cap behind you," Mary whispered back.
You drew away from her, glancing down at your menu again. A small smile appeared on your face as you used the reflection in your spoon to spy over your shoulder at Esme.
It wasn't one of her best disguises but, at least she'd put effort into it, which was something you couldn't say for Alanna and Hayley, who you were sure were squinting while they wore their sunglasses in the low light of the restaurant.
All three of them were a bit too far away to hear you and Mary talking so you clung to that bit of hope.
The date was going extremely well but you just had to ask. The question had been bubbling at the surface ever since you agreed.
"So," You said as you drained your wine glass and indicated to the waitress for the bill," I'm sorry. I just have to know...Why are you interested in me?"
Mary looked at you like you were insane. "Are you kidding?" She said," You're you."
"I am me," You replied," But that doesn't really answer the question. I'm not really that special."
"You're crazy," She said, shaking her head in disbelief," You're amazing. I mean...on the pitch you're so quiet. My first day you came out of nowhere and stole the ball." She looked down a bit bashfully. "I don't know how I didn't notice you before. You're...You're just so nice..."
You took the bill from the waitress. You sighed. "I don't go out a lot," You warned her," I like to stay in. I read too much. I don't even own a tv. I just use my laptop. And I'm messy. My house is a mess."
"That's fine," Mary said quickly," We can stay in. Though...we might have to chill out at mine. My tv was expensive."
You reached into your purse to fish out your card but she beat you to it.
"I'm not going to change," You said," I like my quiet."
"I don't want you to change just...to give me a chance to be in your quiet with you?"
You grinned. "I think that can be arranged." You stood up and offered her your hand. "If we get out of here quick enough, we can probably ditch the date crashers."
"Can I walk you home?" Mary took your hand.
"Of course."

Hi there! I read "Call me menace" back when it first came out, and it came across my dash today via a long post of tumblr stories, and I was delighted to find you'd written so much more in that universe. I burned through everything on ao3, it's all amazing!!
But the reason for me sending in this ask is: Call Me Menace was actually kind of the first step in me coming to terms with being genderfluid. I knew I was trans, but I had been trying for a while to force myself into the other binary and questioning my own validity when sometimes the other end of the binary didn't fit. I admittedly had a lot of internalized stuff to deal with but that story was i think the first time I saw gender fluidity as something...strong? I guess? Instead of bending over backwards to try and not be "confusing" to other people, I could just... lean into it, if that makes sense. Being confusing with gender could be empowering, not a social weakness. I feel a bit embarrassed sending this, but your story really was the starting point in a chain of events that lead to me sitting here, a year later, so much happier and intentionally "confusing" and more comfortable in my own skin. I just wanted to send this in since reading through the rest of the synoverse writing made my day and reminded me of where I was a year ago.
Anyways, I hope this doesn't come off as weird lol. Thank you thank you thank you for your awesome writing and I'm super excited to see where things go next! :))
Thank you for reading, and for writing in!!!
Synovus is one of those characters who just kind of… manifested, fully formed. They were never a ‘he’ or ‘she’ or any other specific gender in my mind, but rather fluid between them from the get-go. I did worry, a little, about presenting a non-binary villain, especially since I’ve tried to be clear that Synovus really isn’t a misunderstood hero (though some readers may still interpret them that way).
But the responses I’ve gotten have done away with that fear entirely. Villain or not, Synovus is the protagonist of the story, and that’s resonated with so many more people than I ever expected. Even one person finding themselves a little more comfortable in their skin would make writing the whole thing worth it.
And for what it’s worth, anon - I’m proud of you. And Synovus would be too.

Calling Them With a Nickname/-chan Honorific
SUMMARY: Basically the title; calling various Tokyo Revengers characters with the -chan honorific (and a nickname, sometimes) WORD COUNT: 1.2k
WARNINGS: Angst in Kazutora (oops), Hanma being a flirty bastard, you being flustered in like half of them, you being hella confident in the other half, generally just fluff, fluff, flustered guys, probably OOC.
CHARACTERS (Because there are a lot): Mikey/Sano Manjiro, Draken/Ryuguji Ken, Baji Keisuke, Matsuno Chifuyu, Hanemiya Kazutora, Mitsuya Takashi, Hanma Shuji, Shiba Hakkai, and Kisaki Tetta (phew that’s a lot-)
A/N: I dunno I keep jokingly calling the characters in Tokyo Revengers -chan to show affection for them (totally not to make fun). And I thought I should share my thoughts on how they would react to you all (lol). Some of them, it's by accident, and some you know exactly what you're doing lmao- Also, you aren't dating in these, just friends (crushes??). Sometimes (like half of the time) it's a nickname paired with chan because that's cute lol- A/N Part 2: Hope they aren't like super ooc?? Lmao- oops- I mean I don't know a lot of them that well so- I tried by reading a bunch of fanfics (lol) A/N Part 3: Kisaki is scary- Like I don't know what you guys are talking about, I wasn't able to write him fully because he's terrifying lmao- A/N Part 4: Also feel free to use these nicknames for any fic-writing that you do- cause these are adorable </3 A/N Part 5: Also this is my first time writing in this format so. Uh- yeah. It was fun though, it combats my inability to write long fics lol- A/N Part 6: Originally posted here.

Tumblr media
Mikey/Sano Manjiro
You were frozen, eyes wide as a soft blush grew over your cheeks. You hadn't meant to call Mikey with an honorific—chan, no less—and you were worried on how the other would react.
"I- I'm sorry, Mikey, I didn't-"
"Call me that again."
"...What?" You stuttered slightly, not sure on what to say.
"Say what you called me again." He blinked, staring at you.
Was this a punishment...? "M-Mikey-chan...?"
You watched as Mikey's face brightened, smiling softly at you. "I like it when you say that... Say it more. Mkay, [Y/N]-chan?"
You felt your cheeks grow hot. "All right... But, one question."
"What is it?"
"Why didn't you yell at me when I said it the first time- I mean, we don't know each other and all..."
The male let out a soft huff before shaking his head. "Well, because I like you. And, I like being called nicknames by you. So." He shrugged slightly.
"...Okay..." You were confused, but a faint smile grew over your lips as you watched him.
"C'mon, let's go to a cafe- I want to eat the parfait there!"
"Wait- I thought you already ate one today?"
"It's a different store, [Y/N]-chan!"
Tumblr media
Draken/Ryuguji Ken
"Ryu-chan! You look really pretty today!"
You were met with a blank stare.
"Huh?"
You stammered a little as you gazed into his eyes, hands raised placatingly. "Hey- Didn't mean any harm, I just wanted to see how you'd reac-"
"...Okay."
"Okay?"
"Yeah. I don't care."
Truth be told, he did care... And he spent a while in his bedroom, flustered at the fact that you called him with a nickname.
Tumblr media
Baji Keisuke
"You can't just keep on beating people up like that, Baji-chan." You pouted softly at him, prodding his chest lightly. "Seriously. What's your reason this time?" You were too caught up with scolding him that you didn't notice the nickname that you said.
Baji was... 48% confused, 43% surprised, 8% annoyed, and 1% flustered. His thoughts were racing inside his head- did you actually call him a nickname, or was he just imagining it?
He just let out a soft huff, interrupting whatever trivial thing you were saying—probably telling him to stop being so reckless and stupid—before he picked you up, much to your surprise.
"Wh-what are you doing? Where-"
He just plopped you down on his bike, putting his helmet on you before sitting down. "Hang on tight, I'm taking you on a date."
"Wait why-"
"Because you called me 'Baji-chan.' And it was cute. And I like you."
"...This is a confession? Wait, when did I call you Baji-chan anyway-"
Tumblr media
Matsuno Chifuyu
"Fuyu-chan- Can I have one of your romance manga?"
Double punch to Matsuno Chifuyu—wait no, triple punch. Firstly, you had called him with his first name. A nickname, at that. Secondly, there was the affectionate 'chan' honorific. Thirdly, a romance manga? One of his romance manga? Was this a sign for him to confess? All of his shoujo manga that he had read hadn't prepared him for this.
"Wh-which one?" He asked, flustered.
"Any- you know there was one you were recommending a while back. About a forward girl and a shy boy?" A smile tugged at your lips as you leaned closer. "I remember thinking that it sounded kinda like our relationship, mm?"
Relationship...?
Chifuyu let out a soft huff, trying to ignore how close you were, how flustered he was. "Yeah... I have it somewhere."
You let out a soft laugh before grabbing your phone, quickly taking a picture of him before he could react. "Baji-san was right, you did get super flustered-"
"What- hey- you better not send that to Baji-san, he'll laugh at me for days-"
Tumblr media
Hanemiya Kazutora
"Kazu-chan. Look at me. You are not the horrible person you think you are."
Kazutora let out a soft huff. "Yeah, you're just obligated to say that."
Your nose scrunched up slightly. "No, I'm not. Don't be so dense, Kazu-chan." You gently bopped him on the nose. "Seriously. You deserve love, affection, friendship."
Kazutora shook his head. "But-"
"Shut up and listen to me, Kazutora."
He paused slightly. "...You stopped calling me that."
"Calling you what?" You blinked slightly.
"...Kazu-chan..." You watched as his cheeks flushed a soft red before feeling your cheeks heat up as well.
"Shit- I'm so sorry- didn't mean to-"
"Nah, it's okay. It's the only thing that makes your argument worth listening to."
"Well then, guess I'm gonna have to keep calling you Kazu-chan until you believe what I'm saying. Because you deserve everything good that this world has to offer."
Tumblr media
Mitsuya Takashi
It wasn't any surprise when you called Mitsuya 'Taka-chan.' Probably because you were always with him and Hakkai.
Still, what surprised Mitsuya was the fact that you had done it on purpose.
His heart skipped a beat, a faint smile on his lips as he watched you.
"What's with the smile?" You asked teasingly.
"Nothing... I just like it when you call me 'Taka-chan.' It's cute."
"Really?" You let out a soft laugh, wrapping your arms around him. "Well, I'm glad. Though, you're smiling a bit more than when Hakkai-kun calls you 'Taka-chan'~ Any reason for that?"
"Mm, I'll tell you... If you kiss me first."
"All right, then."
"Wait no I was kidding, [Y/N]-chan-" Cue a flustered Mitsuya.
Tumblr media
Hanma Shuji
"...Shu-chan? Did you just call me that?"
You tensed slightly, backing away. "N-no-" You stammered, eyes wide as a faint blush grew on your cheeks.
"You did, didn't you..."
You shook your head slightly before a soft squeak left your lips as his arms wrapped around you, pulling you into a hug. You felt your cheeks burn as you just hugged him back. "...You're touch-starved."
"What- No I'm not, love."
"Yes you are. And it's not like you're in love with me-"
"But I am-"
"...What." You blinked slightly as you watched him.
"[Y/N]-chan- It's true! So call me Shu-chan more." He pouted softly at you, and you could only relent, eyes softening a bit as you watched him.
"Fine... Only to calling you Shu-chan, though."
"Hey!"
Tumblr media
Shiba Hakkai
Watch Hakkai literally freeze.
"Hakkai-chan?" You ask again, an innocent look on your face. "Can you please help me with my homework?"
You watched in amusement as his cheeks flushed brightly.
He knew what you were doing, how you were trying to make him more flustered and unable to speak than usual. He was pretty used to being around you, to the point where it was fairly easy to talk to you, but... Still, when you wanted to be flirty, it broke him.
He looked away from you, pressing his lips together as he didn't look you in the eye, feeling his cheeks heat up even more. "Wh- what..."
"It's for math. Help-" You got rid of the teasing look, poking the male gently.
"O-oh..." He mumbled, looking at the papers.
"...Wait, [Y/N]- I thought you were the smart one here."
Tumblr media
Kisaki Tetta
Welp. You were dead.
That was the thought that flashed through your head, as well as regret and a tiny- tiny- bit of fear.
After all, you had called him Tetta-chan- either he would think you were making fun of him, or that you were flirting- neither of which you wanted to think about.
Before he had the chance to reply, you just dashed off, sprinting as fast as you could.
By the time Kisaki had processed your words enough, you were long gone.
"Well..." He shook his head slightly with a soft sigh, feeling his cheeks heat up. "They're the only one allowed to call me that."
Hanma just let out a soft snort. "Tha has a nice ring to it, don't ya think, Tetta-chan~"
"Shut up."

could you write a shigaraki x reader who loves to sing and is a music lover but is super shy abt it? ❤️ty
Yes ofc!!! This should be easy bc I went to music school for 3 years but don't ask me about music theory...
Tumblr media
_______________________________________________
Music was your biggest passion. Radio was always on and your guitar was always tuned, ready to play. Despite being extremely talented, you only played when nobody was around. Your alone time was the only time you got to sing or practice any songs.
You were gifted with a beautiful voice that could rival any professional singer. If only the league knew, you'd be pressured to perform and collect money. However, that wasn't what you wanted. You were far too shy to do that.
To avoid anyone listening, you would inspect everywhere around you to make sure absolutely NOBODY was around to hear. It was your biggest secret. Whenever anyone asked about the guitar you tried your best to play it off as a bad hobby. However, you never really checked as much during your practices.
It was a warm afternoon, the league all left to their own devices. You never asked too many questions because you didn't wanna be dragged along. If anyone asked for your company, you offered to stay back and protect. Not like there was much to protect but it was a solid enough excuse for everyone to ignore.
You didn't hear Shigaraki arrive. You were locked away in a room, singing along to the radio. Your voice was powerful enough to be heard through the walls. Lots of studying with vocal technique helped with that but little did you know it'd also come back to bite you in the ass. Shigaraki could hear you the moment he stepped foot inside, and he was amazed.
At first he froze. He was confused and suspicious until he realized it was you. He slowly walked, taking in every moment of your beautiful voice. You were none the wiser. After a few songs, you left the room to get some water to rehydrate your throat when you noticed Shigaraki relaxing on an old, torn sofa. You jumped at first, defensively asking how long he had been there.
You could feel your heart drop to your stomach, beating a million miles per hour. Your mind, desperately searching for an answer, began racing with a timeline. Did you hear anything? When did he arrive? How long has he been laying on the couch? Did he even hear you? There's no way he didn't hear you. Why didn't he say something when he knew you were around? Why didn't everyone else come back too? You definitely would have heard them, especially Toga and Twice.
Dabi, Compress, Spinner, and Shigaraki were moderately quiet for the most part except a few games from Spinner and Shigaraki. It'd be a nightmare to quietly practice or focus on singing with Toga and Twice. You wished it was one of them because at least you would have heard them and saved yourself the embarrassment.
Shigaraki didn't seem phased. Not even by your outburst. He slowly propped himself up on his shoulders then shrugged.
"Awhile? Maybe."
His nonchalant nature only made you more nervous. There was no reading his expression whether he liked it or was tortured by it. The lack of response could be a bit relieving for some assuming the listener didn't care, but not for you. You were the master of overthinking your talent.
"I thought it sounded nice," he said in a soft tone as he laid back down. "You shouldn't be embarrassed about it." Did he see the blush on your face? Was it really that obvious? However, you could now see he was deeply relaxed and wondered if maybe your singing soothed him. Shigaraki was Japan's most wanted villain. He didn't really get time to relax. This was the first time you had seen him so laid back.
You sat down next to his feet and rubbed his leg as you softly sang to him. It took a lot of courage. Sometimes your voice cracked or high notes turned into more of a whisper, but it seemed to only have more relaxed Shigaraki. His eyes closed, his breath slowed down, and his muscles relaxed. Perhaps you were better at it than you gave yourself credit for. To see Shigaraki like this, it inspired you to sing around him more often.

“Meet Little Miss Sano !”
Tumblr media
—›› cw :: afab-reader, super fluff, mention of stepcest, menstrual cycle, explicit kissing, mentions of Shinichiro, Emma, college au, mature language, mention of foster parents; precis–Big (step)brother comforts Miss Sano for the first time; wc–1.5k tap here to browse my works.
Tumblr media
The day Shinichiro brought you to the Sano household was the luckiest day of your life since all you ever wanted was a big brother doting on you, taking care of you, and keeping you safe, especially from those gawking stares. Childhood bleached from happiness, too many houses, too many surnames, and too many abusive parents until you crossed paths with your bloodline.
“There you go, Awhh! Don't be afraid. He's not gonna harm you...”, Shinichiro's voice laced your ears as you gripped onto his sweatshirt as if your life depended on it. Meeting new people always felt like a knot of death around your neck, trying to kill you yet not giving you the privilege of dying.
Fear was so deep-seated in your heart that it took months for Shinichiro to get you comfortable. He was nice and kind and unlike other visitors, he didn't bring candies and soft toys; he brought flowers and books. You always found it strange but your heart wouldn't suffice enough courage to spill it out.
And one day, when you were quite comfortable in his presence, you finally mustered up enough courage to open up to him he brought someone. Shorter yet firm built, seemed like your age, blonde and a little chubby cheeks with a dorayaki in his hand. While you stood in surprise, the boy gave you a piece of his dorayaki exclaiming, “I can only give you half”
Shinichiro ruffled his hair while you looked at him seeking assurance. As Shin nodded you took it. That was your first meeting with Manjiro Sano. How could you not like such a home? But Shinichiro had his flaws; he never mentioned anything about Emma, probably because telling either of you might reopen old wounds. He didn't want that, never.
So, the day he brought you to his home you're a bit cautious seeing such a lovely face but couldn't seem to ask. But Manjiro sure was perceptive. "That's Emma! Our little sister", he softly added. That day, Manjiro couldn't avert his eyes from you, you looked like an angel with a crescent adorning your face.
Life became simple and easy to understand. There were no more fights, no more terrible headaches, and no more scars. It didn't take you long to settle in comfortably in the Sano house and Emma warmed up to you so quick. Tackling the brothers became so much easier for her as you helped her in cooking.
Shinichiro still brought you flowers and books. So, one day the Junior Sano popped the question you always wanted to ask. Shinichiro said flowers because they glow if you take care of them and books because who doesn't like to read stories. He was always like this silly yet charming.
But Manjiro came in shades. Sometimes he fought with you over the last piece of dorayaki and sometimes he used to wait outside the college even though he missed it that day. He never let you be alone; Even though you were quite capable of crossing the road by yourself, Manjiro always used to hold your hand. And if you complained, he said that it's not you, it's him who gets confused among the cars and lights. Bike rides with him were the best and since you loved flying like a bird he always used to take you out late at night. Days passed like blooming tulips. Finally, you knew what happiness tasted like; but seasons change don't they?
As soon as you entered the house you threw yourself on the bed. Just when your eyes were giving up you felt the mattress sink. "Hey, everything all right?", Manjiro asked tucking your hair behind your earlobes to take a good look at your face. "Yep. Just tired. ", you mumbled.
"I was about to go to pick you up.", Manjiro said as he left the bed to fetch the water bottle. You'd have called him to take you home early but didn't want to bother him. Besides, you could barely talk from the exhaustion and this massive stomach ache. Getting out of the bed you checked your cupboard and your guess were totally on point: it was your month yet you were out of tampons.
Manjiro looked at your worried face and his question was at the tip of his tongue, “What’s wrong? Why the frown?”, to which you hesitated to reply because till now you never talked to him about these things. “I — I need to go out”, you blurted out to which he jerked his head accompanied by his dancing eyebrows asking for further explanation.
The more you hesitated, the clearer it became to him. He tapped on your shoulders and asked you to get a shower, to get refreshed. When you came out of the shower, you noticed a pack of tampons on your bed and got a little embarrassed.
Drying your hair you went towards the kitchen to fetch food but he was already there sitting on the couch, legs stretched onto the table, one hand kept on the backrest of the couch while the other held the remote. “Hungry already?”, he asked as you sat beside him.
You nodded letting him know that you weren't. He snapped his fingers to gesture for you to lay down on his lap. It's one of the sweetest things you two shared. Whenever either of you felt down, the other sought comfort by laying their head down on your lap. Although, it was mostly him enjoying your pillow-like lap.
Manjiro turned off the TV and skimmed his hand through his hair. You noticed his sharp jawlines and forced yourself to look away. A deep exhale as his arm slips from the rest upon your belly to adjust the hot bag you were holding. “Feeling better?“, he asked as you took his hand and started to play with his fingers. “Yeah.”, you added.
“Take rest tomorrow. Don't go to college. I won't too”, he muttered.
“And do what? Start watching a new series?”, you muttered as his other hand gently stroked your forehead. His eyes fell over your body. You tapped on his nose to gain his attention. He started to play with your hair again while you interlaced his fingers with yours humming a tune. He kept talking about his day, about how he did most of the grocery shopping, Emma was there too, a little too excited since she doesn't get much chance to go out.
Manjiro noticed that you were lost, somewhere else; he didn't complain, he felt happy seeing you relaxed in his presence. You slid the hot bag while Manjiro tucked his hair behind his earlobes jocking down and pressing his lips against yours. You swallowed a gulp and your palm that rested in his gripped harder while the other clenched the sheets. He pulls away, face still inches apart from yours as your boobs heaved vigorously.
“What was that?”, you sternly asked sitting upright facing him. He folded his legs and buried his face in his palms exhaling deeply. He is nervous too. As silence seeped both of your skin you got up to leave but he pulled you back into the couch. His hand over your back as you closed your eyes in reflex. His hands are ice cold. He was way more nervous than you. “Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. I— I shouldn't have. Sorry”, he mumbled rubbing your back calming your senses.
As your breathing relaxed you looked at him, his eyes tainted in sadness and worry; you could get lost and never find your way back. “Has he always looked at me like this?”, a thought popped and you wrapped your arms around him mumbling how frightened you were for a moment that you'd lose him. “I didn't mean to scare you”, he softly spoke.
His husky voice wrecked your senses as he curls his hand around your body kissing your temple. He quickly moves on to your neckline making you gasp. You pull away from the embrace, breathing heavily and so does he.
He takes your palms in his eyes looking down asking, “Do you trust me Miss Sano?” to which you fail to respond but your hands wrapping around his, intertwined fingers are enough for him. “Close your eyes!”, he directs, and as you do you felt strawberry-scented lips taking yours. He holds your chin between his index and thumb deepening his kiss and then breaking is followed by a kiss on your cheeks.
“Manjiro”, you call as he rests his head on your shoulder. “hmmm?”, he hums to which you just convey that you both are going college tomorrow. He jumps out of the couch in excitement merrily exclaiming,“So, we're going on a date!“ earning a pout from you.

Hi Vincent! Since you're studying Japanese & Korean, I was wondering if there are any major differences in the way you approach studying each language? Especially since you are laddering Japanese and Korean.
Any helpful hints you've picked up on the way would be great too! ありがとう!
Oohhhh... This is a good question...
I think in terms of grammar I approach them similarly, by memorizing grammar by its function rather than by how it's translated, but when I review grammar I try to review my Korean by comparing to equivalent Japanese grammar. They're a lot easier to compare than either one with English, so it's easier since the word order is often the same and stuff.
But with Korean I think I use a lot more learning apps? Although that's mostly because the Korean resources around me aren't as plentiful as Japanese ones, so I can't get my hands on as much native reading material and stuff to practice. (And I'm not huge on k-dramas, haha)
Oh, another thing with my experience with Korean is that my learning community for it is much smaller- I couldn't really click with a lot of my classmates in Korean the same way I could with my classmates in Japanese (and there was one person in my Korean class who was kind of... A creep so I sort of avoided socializing in there in general), so a lot of my Korean learning is more independent. I won't lie that specific person being so like, uncomfortable to be around kinda killed my motivation to study Korean for a little while, so I really had to improve my internal motivations for studying to make sure I didn't give up.
In terms of tips and tricks I have, one thing I've made a habit of doing is writing down the equivalent Japanese grammar point next to each Korean grammar point in my textbooks! I'll write down conjugations with the same meanings, particles with the same meanings, and sometimes also phrases or vocab terms in Japanese next to the Korean headings and try to memorize based on that. It's usually pretty easy to do, honestly, since the English language textbooks I use for both languages describe things very similarly!
Also, I try to cut out English as much as possible when I learn new words in Korean! Like, I have the Learn Korean With BTS book, and in that the new vocab is only written in Korean, and then if I can't guess the word's meaning from the illustration they put with it, I'll listen to the audio translation in Japanese. I only use English if I'm totally lost because I don't know the word in either language and the illustration is confusing.
Hmm... Another tip I think is important is to not beat yourself up if you aren't "fully laddering" or something like that. If you sometimes have to go back to your native language to double check something, that's fine! It doesn't cancel out all the laddering if you have to go back sometimes to make sure you're actually understanding.
You can also usually find what textbooks Japanese universities use for their Korean language classes! I know Waseda puts all of their textbooks up on their class search and that's publicly available to look at, so you can go find whatever level of Korean textbook written in Japanese with Japanese explanations if you're advanced enough in Japanese!
I feel like laddering is pretty similar to immersion study in the sense that they can both feel pretty difficult and high-intensity even when you're just doing something basic. Completely getting rid of your native language makes things a lot more stressful, I think, so it can be harder. Even if you know that for you personally laddering will be a better way to learn it or more efficient or whatever, it can still feel kinda overwhelming to suddenly be trying to avoid your native language when you study, and I think it's important to remember that! Because sometimes it'll feel discouraging to be overwhelmed by "super basic stuff", but the way you're studying is more intense than studying using native language textbooks! So feeling overwhelmed by stuff you'd find "easy" in your native language is fine! Because it isn't your native language!
I dunno, I don't have many life hacks for it yet... But I hope this blurb helps somehow anyway!

Little Talks with a Big Robot Turtle
Raph has some questions, and Casey Junior has some answers.
🔴 This fic is based on Cass Apocalyptic Series by @somerandomdudelmao!! If you haven't seen the comics already, I'd suggest you check them out!! They're really good and fun!!
🔴 rottmnt au || 2,452 words
🔴 click here to read on AO3!!
🔴 mostly Raph-cently, almost no angst, mostly family fluff
🔴 don't tag with any ships!!
There were many things Raph was happy about. Like being 'alive' again, getting reunited with his brothers, seeing familiar faces in the Resistance…
There was something that bothered him though. A lot.
He wasn't sure how many years passed. While he was 'offline' (as Donnie would describe) it was impossible to tell that. He didn't remember anything from that time. It was as if he had fallen into a deep sleep.
And that brought memories. Bad ones. Things he'd rather forget, like the dark cold feeling as he was pulled into another deep sleep—
You're safe, Raph.
He took a deep breath. Let it out. (Thankfully Dee had made his robot body work as similar to his organic body, as much as he could.) He was safe and with his family. Raph was okay.
Yeah, it wasn't what bothered him right now anyways. The thing was, how much he missed while being offline.
Clearly, way too many years had passed. Considering how much Casey Junior grew up and how his brothers had aged (especially Mikey, apparently years weren't kind to him, thank pizza supreme in the sky for Donnie’s new invention) in his absence. He guessed that at least twelve years must have passed.
Twelve years away from his family.
He didn't want to think too much about that. Not yet.
Instead, Raph decided he wanted to simply gain information about what he missed.
And luckily he had plenty of time and someone he could learn a part of what he missed, specifically possible embarrassing stories of his brothers' shenanigans. (There was no way these three didn't do something stupid in all of those past years.)
Leo and Donnie were on a field mission, Mikey was training, and April was on a super secret mission for a while now according to Leo. Which left him alone with no one other than Casey Jones Junior.
The teen was sitting next to him, leaning towards the large robot turtle as he cleaned his weapon.
Raph watched him for a bit before he spoke, "Casey, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure, uhh, Ma- Uncle Raphael." Casey replied.
"What did Raph miss?"
"Huh?" Casey turned to look at him a bit confused.
"I feel like I still need to catch up on a lot of things. I hoped you'd be helpful?" Raph explained.
Casey frowned, "I think Sensei would be better for that job, I didn't take an important role in missions until the recent years—"
"No, no, no, not missions and information about the Resistance," Raph already learned a summary of that from his brothers. "Raph means family."
"Ah." Casey put his weapon down, "Yes, I can help with that!" He turned to Raph to look at him better. "What would you like to know?"
Raph thought for a second before answering. "What did Donnie mean when he said he turned Leo into a tangerine-sized baby ?" Leo was stubbornly avoiding answering the question and he hadn't got the chance to ask Donnie or Mikey about that.
Casey grinned, "Uncle Tello was experimenting and Sensei was helping him. They tested it on Sensei, and he literally turned into a small baby." He explained. "He was so… small." Casey used his hands to show the scale of baby Leo. "I'd thought he'd be a giant toddler, and yet…"
Raph laughed, "I can't believe I missed that. I'd have loved to see him that small again." The memories of when they were tots, much smaller and tiny flashed before his eyes. He barely remembered those days anymore, yet the warmth of the good old days was something he always welcomed. "I sometimes forget how small we were."
Casey looked at him with concern, as if trying to wrap his mind around something. Maybe he was wondering if he'd be as tall as them like he would ask when he was four, or maybe he was thinking of how Raph could be that small back in the past. Finally, he shook his head, "I never thought I'd see Sensei like that. It was…"
"Odd?" Raph guessed.
"Yeah, and a bit scary." Casey nodded.
"Responsibility?"
Another nod.
Raph looked at the boy and considered saying anything about it., but decided against it. Casey seemed like he had already talked it out, even if he was drifting into his thoughts. Raph smiled, and asked another question, something silly to distract the boy: “Was he as naughty as in our time?”
“No, not really.” Casey hummed.
“Huh, when we were much younger he would cause a lot of trouble.” Raph said. “Maybe he was aware of himself this time?”
“Uncle Tello says he didn’t, but I am not sure.” Casey explained. "He claims he doesn't remember anything from his time like that, but I have my suspicions."
"Is that so?"
"Why would he have gotten embarrassed at the mention of chirping if not? And he always avoids the topic." The boy pointed out. The way he used his fingers to count his proofs and the way he talked reminded Raph of Donnie. "Also I caught him threatening a guy who had yelled at me earlier, when Sensei was tiny." He quickly added.
"Chirping, you say?" Raph asked with a joyful glint in his eyes.
"Yes!" Casey laughed. "I didn't even know he could chirp."
"That's a turtle thing. A thing that I didn't hear him make for years." Raph grinned.
"A turtle thing…" Casey briefly seemed to think about something, before continuing his tales.
Casey told him about other adventures, such as Mikey sleepwalk-floating around in the middle of the night and almost getting attacked by sleep-deprived Donnie, the twins getting banned from card games, and the karaoke night fiasco…
Even if his heart ached as he learned how much he missed out, he still enjoyed every single memory and story Casey shared with him. Even if he was not there, he still found comfort in them. (And of course possible material for comebacks against his brothers' silly annoying jokes.)
After who knows how long of talking, they were back to silence. Raph was glad it wasn't an awkward silence. He also felt lucky with how quickly Casey adapted to his presence and felt comfortable around him too. He knew very well how hard it was for everyone in the current times.
Then Casey looked at him and said, "Uncle Raphael, can I ask a question?"
"Of course, Casey."
"Is it true that you can multiply your form?” Casey asked.
“Yeah, it is!” Raph grinned. “But I haven’t done that for a long while. Thankfully it’s not necessary that often.”
Casey looked at him in a way that made Raph sure he was trying to figure out how multiplying worked. “I can show you if you want to see?” Raph offered.
The boy’s eyes shined with excitement as he nodded.
So Raph did his old trick and watched the boy look amazedly at him. He could tell Casey had many more questions, and Raph was ready to answer every single of them.
Because if there was one thing he was sure of, it was that he missed having small talks with his family. And besides, how could he say no to a chance to bond with the kid more? He had many years to make up for after all.
That was how their time passed. Talking about memories and simple things, having laughs over embarrassing things (that mostly his brothers did), and answering questions.
Though he had to admit, he never expected to hear this question:
“What’s a Godzilla?”
Raph blinked in confusion, “Where did that come from?”
“I once heard someone say that you were like Godzilla. As big as it is or something like that.” Casey explained.
“Ah, it is a fictional character. A big dinosaur-like thing. A giant reptilian monster.”
“Something like the aliens from Jupiter Jim?” Casey asked excitedly.
“Yes! Kind of.” Good thing his siblings hadn’t forgotten to teach Casey the essential knowledge. “I’m glad you’re familiar with the series.”
“Of course! I know it all, including Jupiter Jim Pluto Vacation 4 — the best movie.” Casey said proudly.
Raph stared at him in shock. “Did you mean Jupiter Jim Sails The Seven Galaxies ?”
“No, that’s the second best movie.”
No way Casey had said that. Raph knew who was behind this though, and he mentally took a note to have a nice talk with Donnie and remind him why Jupiter Jim Sails The Seven Galaxies is the best one truthfully. Meanwhile, he had a kid to save from false information. “So Casey, would you like to learn more about the movies?”

.
Leo was so dang tired of the repeating nightmares.
The same fucking memories blended together in different ways. Seeing the same faces and colors, and hearing the same screams again and again and again —
His brain wasn't kind to him, he already knew that. It still annoyed him, though. But it was like that for the last ten-something years. Old habits die hard, huh?
Except Raph was no longer dead. And he was such a great big brother that welcomed him every time Leo felt way too bad to go back to sleep.
The truth was that Leo didn't only seek comfort, but he wanted to make sure Raph was there. He needed to be sure he was alright.
Some nights he'd check the rest of his family's rooms too. He knew Donnie had a similar habit too, except he'd check their vitals and locations from the trackers he put on them instead.
Quietly Leo walked towards Raph's room. The big guy was there, as always. Awake too. Leo knew he would never ‘sleep’ before his brothers did since the time he didn’t need sleep. (And that some nights he'd stay awake just to make sure they would be safe.) His bright eyes noticed him in no time. "Nightmares?"
Leo simply nodded, feeling too tired to say anything.
Raph opened his arms, welcoming him to a hug. Leo gladly approached him and hugged him back. Embracing the hug, the safety of his big brother- even if he was made of titanium- gave him the biggest comfort.
Leo finally relaxed, enough to fall asleep.
He'd fall asleep if it wasn't for the noise coming from Donnie's lab, followed by a loud " Fuck !"
Ah, yes. As Leo mentioned earlier, old habits die hard. Donnie was overworking and probably chugging coffee as usual. He should've guessed, considering how when Leo manages to sleep it's usually Donnie's turn to be the insomniac of the night.
Raph sighed. Then he got up without letting go of Leo. "All those years, and you guys still don't sleep." He murmured.
Leo smirked, "I'm not guilty tonight." he yawned.
" Tonight ." Raph repeated, emphasizing the word.
Soon they arrived at Donnie's lab. Opening the doors, they were met with a loud hiss coming from Donnie. As Raph stood with Leo held in his arms at the doorway, Donnie froze with realization.
"Donnie."
"Raph."
"Its 4 am."
Donnie looked away and started to fiddle with his hands. "Gasp, is it? Well, better I go to sleep—"
Before he was able to squirm away, Raph caught him with his free hand. As he held him, Donnie once again froze. Leo snickered as he watched them. With Donnie in one hand and Leo in the other arm, Raph began walking back to his room. "That's enough work for tonight, Donnie."
"But–-"
"No buts, you sleep. Now."
"Ha ha! Got busted." Leo smirked.
"Shut it, as if it wasn't you who gets scolded five times in a week for not sleeping." Donnie retorted.
"It's four, actually." Leo corrected him.
"Wrong. It's five."
"Four."
"Five."
" Four ."
" Five ."
"If you don't shut up and rest, it will become seven days a week." Raph threatened lightheartedly.
As Raph lay on the bed, Donnie scoffed and gave in. He knew there was nothing he could do to escape Raph's grip- curse him for making Raph's arms so powerful!- so he accepted his fate. Leo yawned once again, while Donnie started snoring in no time.
"He's been working on something nonstop lately." Leo commented, looking at his twin.
"Do you have any idea what it is?" Raph whispered.
"Maybe. Not sure though." Leo closed his eyes.
"Does it have anything to do with the tot-you experiment?"
Leo's eyes flew open. "What?"
"You possibly couldn't have forgotten that."
"Who told you- Casey !" That little snitcher.
"It doesn't sound bad." Raph said.
"It was bad." Leo protested.
"So you remember."
"No." Leo replied a bit too quickly.
"Sure." It was Raph's turn to smirk.
Leo bit his tongue, there was no way Raph didn't understand that Leo knew everything that happened while he was in that whole situation. Well, shit. "Please never bring this up ever again." He groaned.
"Okay," Raph said. Leo sighed, but Raph hadn't finished. "I didn't know you still chirped."
" Nooooooooo ," Leo whined. "Not this again." This embarrassment was too much.
Raph didn't care, he enjoyed messing with his brothers. He missed them, and the old days, so he was making up for that. Leo was aware of that. It didn't make this any better though.
With how this was going on, the whole Resistance was going to learn about this and know him as the 'chirping leader'.
Raph looked at him knowingly. Then he chirped.
Come on, like the old days?
He knew what he wanted to hear. Of course, he knew that Leo wouldn't be able to say no too. Not if he wanted to keep it as a secret. He didn't have a choice.
Damn turtle genetics.
" Fiiiiine ," He huffed. Then, after a second, he chirped.
I'm never ever doing that again.
Meanwhile, Raph was looking at him as if he was a tiny wet puppy. "Can't believe you still sound the same as when you were tiny."
"Shuuuuut up!" Leo buried his face in Raph's plastron.
Raph snorted, "Alright, alright." Then he gave him and Donnie a light squeeze. "Good night, Leo."
Leo didn't raise his head as he replied, "Good night, Raph."
°
.
A few hours later Mikey found the turtle pile, and gasped, saying how dare they have a sleepover without him.
More hours later, Casey found them, smiling at the scenery of four turtles. All sleeping and snoring peacefully. He had a feeling that Commander April would be sad to miss that, and wish there was a picture of them.
Casey considered joining them, but before he did anything he noticed the half-open eyes looking at him. His Sensei smiled and gestured to him to join them. Without a second thought, Casey did. And in a short while, he fell into a peaceful sleep.

Your made-up people are not stupid! Also, I'm terrible at engaging without specifics. But I'll give it a go. :')
Um... I've been following the kennel and I'm really enjoying it! Pet whump's way outside my norm *and* it's not fantasy, but it's still drawn me in. I'm really enjoying your writing style and I love Will's sarcastic self-deprecating sense of humor/coping.
I just saw your post with the pics of Will and Tommy 👀 I love visuals, so thanks for that!
I began reading the kennel late and then went back to the beginning. I'm really curious about Wills's past and his relationship with Tommy.
Honestly, if there's anything you'd like to infodump re: the kennel, you have a willing audience right here.
I hope you stay safe! 💜
Ah, sweet William! I can infodump a little bit about him (and thank you so much for your willingness to distract!).
Will is an only child. His parents were mismatched high school sweethearts who married when they were really young. Sometimes, that works; for them, it did not. Will's mother, in particular, felt very restless in the relationship and felt like there were too many things she never got to try. She left Will and his father when Will was in the third grade.
Will's dad is a very sensitive guy who didn't quite understand what he'd done to make Will's mom run off and who really didn't understand what to do with an eight-year-old boy on his own. He loves Will, but he hasn't always been a model parent. He worked a lot, and he didn't know how to deal with his own feelings let alone Will's confusion and hurt. He grieved out loud in front of his son, and that set an expectation for Will that he should always be ready for people to let him down--and that he should question whether or not he's worthy of other people's love, because if his Dad (who was his superhero when he was little) wasn't enough, how could Will be?
Will's dad did have the wherewithal to recognize that he didn't know how to do everything by himself, so Will spent a lot of time at the Mahoneys'. Will and Tommy met in second grade. They sat next to one another in class. Tommy liked Will's Ninja Turtles tee-shirt; Will liked Tommy's light-up sneakers. They built forts out of cut grass on the playground and played Spiderman (Tommy was so good at climbing the play structures that, for a hot second, Will thought Tommy might be Spiderman). When Will's mom left, the Mahoneys offered Will's dad whatever help they could, and he took it. Will had dinner there several nights a week, spent the night more often than he probably should, kind of became another son. Will's dad felt guilty about that, and maybe a little sad that he couldn't provide Will with all of that, and withdrew. He loves Will, but he thought he was doing him a favor--giving him the room to have the kind of family he deserved.
Tommy never resented Will's closeness, and the Mahoneys never made Will feel like a burden, but he felt like one anyway. He's always scared that he's going to chase people away the way he thinks he did his mother and, to a lesser extent, his father.
As they went through middle and high school, Tommy's talent and devotion to dance started to change their relationship a little bit. Will was super proud of Tommy and always stuck up for him when other people made fun of him for dancing, but Will also felt a little jealous that there was nothing he was good at, nothing he could be special for. He was an average student, an average-looking guy, just...average. And that was fine, but he just didn't get why he couldn't have something.
Then came Jessie.
She and Will started dating during their junior year of high school. Tommy never really liked the way she treated Will. Will was such a people pleaser that he spent all of his time trying to do whatever it was he thought might make Jessie happy, and Jessie took advantage of that. She also knew how to keep Will in line by exploiting the things she knew he was self-conscious about, his size especially. They dated for three years, and for about half of that time, Will and Tommy didn't really talk, because Jessie thought Tommy didn't like her (he didn't) and that Will should take her side (he did). She left Will halfway through college. She'd been sleeping with someone else for a while. Will was prepared to forgive her (of course he was), but she told him that she wasn't attracted to him. That kind of set him on the path of negative self-talk we find him on in the story.
Tommy did go away for school, but he and Will were constantly in touch, with the exception of the Jessie period. However, Tommy moving to the city and starting his life reminds Will that he has no idea what he should do with his own. It's very scary for him, and that's why he's clinging to Tommy so hard at the beginning.
There are a lot of things Will doesn't realize about himself--that Tommy values him tremendously and actually would have felt completely lost at different points without Will; that his dad loves him more than he knows how to express; that he has a wonderful, giving heart that deserves to be rewarded. Both Annie and Tommy will try to help him with that, but once Will is eventually safe again, it's going to take him some time to work that out.

Aether Chapter 8
So the first time Digilife and Maggie's friend Kelly was mentioned I thought to myself "Wouldn't it be cool if that was Naomi." And the thought returns when Maggie gets a notification from Digilife even though she had them turned off, and I'm like "Naomi and/or Chase could make that happen..."
Then "Kelly" drops the fact that she has two hot girl friends and I'm like "holy shit is it?"
AND THEN "Kelly" calls Sierra "stupidhead" and I'm like "CHASE??? MY BELOVED!!!"
By the time we're talking Nurse Hotness and C Cup I'm sold, and the they start discussing Chase's prolific fanfic writing and I'm just wiggling happily in my chair.
I would not be even a little surprised with Chase was about to/already had broken several data privacy laws trying to find out Maggie's status before she finally answered back.
Chase's breakdown of the different dynamics of SuperCat, SuperLane, and Dream Girl held some Opinions™ and I am very here for them. 10/10 if I was living some sad alternate reality where I didn't know Molly's fan writing prior to reading these books I'd sure as fuck know she was involved in the scene now.
Also I need to go trawling Ao3 for some good gender fluid Lucy fics after this. It's been a fucking while and I need something that stops me from burning through Aether too fast and then getting sad about it.
Breakfast was interesting.
I'm getting the impression that some of the team engage in some good natured ribbing of Varsha's quick talking and fast eating of copious amounts but that maybe it doesn't always land how they intend it? It could also be that she's a little extra put out because they are doing it in front of the pretty new girl she likes. Idk.
I did laugh at Industry and Element only tolerating each other before coffee and being ready to set on fire and otherwise torture everyone else if approached.
Sierra has me in this weird place. Because she has been through So Much what with the almost dying, almost losing her best friend, losing someone she thought she was in love/felt she was in love with for 6 years, and has spent the night in a superhero base which non-super employed folks don't usually do if life if going well.
Of course finding out her life's work is about to get confiscated is gonna have a "straw that broke the camels back" effect.
It's a lot harder to imagine things slowly going back to something like normal when the thing you'd normally throw yourself into to ignore the not normal around you is being taken away. But also it feels off that Maggie is the one taking care of her, and that she's cut up about losing the machine instead of concerned and willing to find out what the fuck part it played in her friends new condition??? I don't know.
I don't think she's a bad person and she's probably holding up better than plenty of others would. I just feel like maybe there is a faint pattern of Sierra taking more from this relationship than she gives back? And like sometimes friendships are like that and so long as the person getting less is still getting Enough that is totally fine. It's just feels off from the outside until you get that confirmation that person B (Maggie in this case) is actually getting Enough instead of settling for less for whatever reason (crush, low self esteem etc.).
On a less confusing and lighter note, I feel like Maggie's coffee order is something I would drink if I hadn't long given up on coffee as something that just gives me fast depression. Mocha with 3 shots chocolate syrup sounds yum. It also sounds warming which might be part of my attraction rn.

i LOVE naming chapters. rip to everyone who has trouble naming things but i’m different
#especially love it when chapter titles in a sequence make a little fun thing#y'know like building / crumbling / rising --> reflects the phoenix cycle#the sun / the moon / the truth --> 'only three things cannot be hidden for long'#searching / for you / forever --> just a neat little phrase c:#although i didn't actually title the orchid epilogue 'forever' it was a strong consideration#huh wow it's only really happened in orchid huh#though i do have at least one chapter title sequence planned for zenith#everything under the sun / the face in the moon / the truth of stars#for a sun / moon / truth thing AND sun / moon / stars thing#god i'm so so so so so so excited for that part of the story it's god a mad plot twist#one time i read a book where the chapter titles were an actual canon part of the story#and if you didn't read them you'd sometimes be a little confused it was SUPER NEAT in my opinion#ever since i wanted to write a fic where each chapter title flows seamlessly into the story#like maybe not confuse you if you don't read them but it would be SUPER COOL#extra added challenge of having the chapter titles tell a mini story in themselves#or only named after song lyrics from a certain band. or both those things at the same time#idk man i just love love love taking on little technical challenges like that in writing#but YES I LOVE TITLING CHAPTERS I ALWAYS HAVE FUN REASONING BEHIND MY CHAPTER TITLES#and also titling fics in general is pretty fun for me! star always tell me i have banger titles c':#and i AGREE like they're not really poetic or anything but i am the kind of person who prefers to catch people's eye through light comedy#rather than moving poetry. like yeah i can come up with some banger lines and thoughts but i wanna catch people off guard with them#i feel like having a poetic title makes readers expect a certain kind of tone in what they're reading and i'm too irreverent to deliver that#花話

Heya! I scanned over your rules a few times before wanting to request something! Its cool if you don't want to so don't feel pressured! If possible, could you do a Monty Gator x reader from the new fnaf game? The premise being reader is a new night mechanic and takes a liking to Monty and double checks him more often to see if he's doing alright, and he eventually starts following her around like a lost puppy? Please remember to get rest and make sure you eat and hydrate!

Tumblr media
▸ being a new mechanic at freddy fazbear's mega pizzaplex was... interesting to say the least. it wasn't bad, no not at all- the pay was good, the coworkers were generally okay, and the work wasn't all that difficult for you- it was just... strange.
▸ the animatronics certainly were pretty pieces of tech, but they almost seemed too good. they might be slightly unnerving to some, due to how human they could be. you didn't seem to mind though.
▸ it was your job to take care of them- you wouldn't be able to do that if you were uncomfortable with them.
▸ in fact, you got along exceptionally well with them. sun and moon were less anxious for maintenance with you. you like when chica chatted with you during her routine check ups. you enjoyed how patient freddy was with you during repairs. and even roxanne's company was nice to have.
▸ you could never pick a favourite out of them. you loved all the animatronics at the plex the same. the staff bots, music man- even the tiny little wet floor sign ones. their well-being was your responsibility and the payment for your rent! how could you ever play favourites?
▸ well. it wasn't exactly a favorite. it started more as concern than anything. montgomery gator- or monty- had some issue arise with his ai
▸ actually, a lot of the animatronics did. management said it wasn't too much of a big deal, but it still bothered you sometimes. somehow, with their complex ai- they had picked up negative emotions
▸ you noticed with roxanne. and then with chica. and then, possibly the most obvious one. monty.
▸ he would absolutely destroy his room after every show during closing. that was especially weird- extreme anger issues wasn't exactly something you'd expect from an animatronic who's main purpose is for children's entertainment.
▸ but this resulted in you checking up on him more often. mostly because the other mechanics absolutely refused to interfere with monty's tantrums
▸ weirdly enough, you seemed to be able to calm him down when these issues occured- given, the first few times were incredibly difficult to do, your patience towards him allowed you to find certain ways to get him to cool off
▸ so every night, just after you finished all of your check ups and had fixed everything that needed to be fixed- you would knock on monty's door and do a quick after check up for him. just to make sure, really
▸ you'd ask him how he was doing just to make sure he was alright
▸ the first three times you did this, he was confused. monty just told you he was fine, and then asked why. you shrugged, saying it was just you doing your job
▸ the next few times, he tried to make more conversation. a bit of friendly banter here and there- even invited you into his green room just to talk.
▸ now it's routine for you to stay a little overtime just to talk with monty.
▸ however, it became routine for him to follow you literally everywhere
▸ now it was your turn to ask questions.
"monty, why are you following me?"
he probably made up an excuse on the spot- because yeah, he totally needed to stretch his legs. his metal legs. duh.
▸ you can't get rid of him, you can't fight it- you just now have a giant alligator animatronic that follows you around everywhere
▸ monty doesn't see you any other time, except for your nightshifts. and he's really trying to make the most out of it.
▸ sometimes, you'll stray from your tasks just to explore the plex a little bit. monty isn't snitching- besides, he's not even technically supposed to be glued to your side.
▸ in fact, he'll encourage a little rule breaking if it means you two can do it together
▸ one night, you figured that monty was recharging or had decided to leave you alone. curiosity taking you over- you decided to see what was left of bonnie bowl. after all, bonnie had been decommissioned and they meant to re-theme it. maybe one last glimpse before it was revamped was a good idea. you know, for fun.
▸ you snuck in as careful as ever, only to discover it was empty. still, a few staff bots might have been stationed, so you practically tiptoed the entire time
▸ until possibly the loudest footsteps you ever heard caught your ear. ah. so much for your little stealth mission. (hey, monty couldn't let you explore alone.)
▸ the other animatronics take note of monty tagging along with you constantly. chica laughed once, talking about how he trailed you like a lost puppy
▸ it earned a laugh from you- completely flustered monty. now whenever you two are walking around the plex, you'll look over your shoulder at him and mouth the word "puppy" to him just to tease him
▸ he won't let you off the hook that easy everytime you do that but it's funny seeing how he reacts.
▸ monty would literally follow you anywhere- except when it's time to leave. he hasn't left the plex, and you insist that he stay.
▸ him following you around all the time is already enough to get you in a bit of trouble- if you were the reason he just completely left the pizzaplex, you'd probably be fired.
▸ so instead he'll drop you off and say goodbye, watching as you walk away.
▸ this is the only time the saying "later, gator" doesn't piss him off.
▸ he's always excited to see you again, and can't wait to see what type of trouble you two will get up to tommorow. or you can be responsible and he can follow you around while you set a good example.
▸ either is fine with him. as long as he's with you :]

Bro I just had an idea
So, a personal HC of mine is where the player that falls in Hisui forgets their past life, but has still somehow retained all of their knowledge on Pokémon. So like whenever Laventon or Rei is with them, and sees a new Pokémon, like a Goomy for example, the player just “oh yeah that’s a Goomy.” and spits out knowledge no one knew about it.
I imagine it absolutely baffles people when they do it, but people get so interested they can’t help but listen, and bonus points if they start yammering on about a Pokémon that’s not even in Hisui. Like Oddish(the Mon I originally thought was for the three-leaves request), or Aerodacytl.
And if you’re still on an Ingo kick, extra bonus points with a side of brownies if they start delving into a Pokédex-brain rant and start talking about a “Unovain Zoroark” and a “Basculin that can’t evolve”.
That one springy tail quest (I won't spoil!) had me thinking that spoink was in the game, so I'm definitely with you there! The actual answer wasn't my first thought when I read the quest's hint, hahaha! I'm still trying to keep author commentary short, so I'll stop rambling now and get to it!
.
. Even though you're considerably the most clueless person in all of Hisui given your lack of fashion sense, etiquette, and overall understanding of anything diplomatic, it's a bit of a trade off in comparison to how well you do with Pokemon. Well, mostly. Sometimes you get a little... confused. How you managed to even find an Oddish in the land of Hisui, no one quite knows, but Laventon has been so perplexed he's made a collage board of possible ways the Pokemon could have gotten here, though the lady who asked for a Pokemon with three leaves had been quite impressed with your dedication. That wouldn't be the last time you'd done something similar... One conversation with an Alolan Native later and you've been wondering where all the Meowth, Spoink, all of these different Pokemon species you can think of being found in Sinnoh-- Hisui, have gone, and why they're not here. You've been wracking your mind to try to figure it out. Had most of the modern species been stowaways, the result of foreigners inhabiting the land? Were they simply in hiding still, waiting for peaceful times before they'd show themselves once more? There are myths out there that you know of for certain that might account for the lack of species in the region. Laventon of course greatly enjoyed it when you rambled out in the field about how "Wingull" should be along the coastline and how "Caterpie" should have been super common to the point that even children could capture them without a problem before, because a few of the Pokemon you've named he's actually been familiar with, which leads to an even greater mystery-- Where did you come from for you to know so much about Pokemon?
Even better, for those he didn't know, does that mean they without a shadow of doubt exist? Even the few that are nothing but myths according to the education he received when he was still studying in Galar? It's all incredibly fascinating. However, you're not the first person to go on about things like this. And by no surprise, sometimes when sitting in on lunch with both Ingo and yourself, Laventon and Rei get to hear all sorts of outlandish stories shared between the two of you-- the resident time and space stowaways. The fact that your stories both line up is what makes this so much more incredibly eerie. Warden Ingo doesn't have all of his memory intact, so for the continuities to be shared between the two of your separate recollections, there's got to be some amount of truth to it after all. And, well, neither Laventon or Rei can really imagine a Zorua with short black fur, nor an aggressive Basculin with red or blue stripes, and definitely not a tiny red Braviary (It's not really that tiny, but they've incorrectly imagined a Starly sized Rufflet with red feathers), but they're growing even more eager for the expeditions of the future when they can possibly meet such fascinating Pokemon! Perhaps that's why Arceus has elected to keep the two of you in Hisui for the time being after all.

This was originally requested on my other account by @biqherosix and I feel in love with this idea the moment I read it! I haven't seen a lot of Asami content so I'm super excited about this one, hope you like it!
•••
Asami having a crush on you
It all started with Korra's birthday.
Asami had seen a cute bracelet that reminded her of her friend and finally decided on getting it for her.
When she first walked into the store, she was completely mesmerized by how beautiful everything was.
But once she saw you, she thought that there was nothing in there that could be prettier than you.
She usually wasn't very shy, but when she walked to you and decided to talk, she could tell that she was a nervous wreck.
The girl told you about the bracelet she'd seen and you immediately knew which one she was talking about.
"You have a great eye, that's one of my all time favourites pieces that I've made," you commented as you started looking for the bracelet.
"Wait, you made that?" She asked, surprised.
"Yes, I make everything in the shop!"
"Wow, that's amazing."
You both talked a bit more and then she had to go, even though all she wanted to do was stay there with you.
After that day, she thought of every excuse to go and see you. Dinner with his friends, gifts, treating herself or just to enjoy your company.
It didn't take you long to realize what she was doing, of course.
That first time you'd seen her, she only had a pair of simple earrings, so you assumed she wasn't a super materialistic kind of girl.
So you'd figured there had to be a reason for her to visit you so often.
At first you thought that maybe you were imagining things and she just liked the jewelry you made.
But after thinking about it for a bit, you decided to ask her out the next time you saw each other; life was too short to doubt things.
A few day later, she walked into your shop and greeted you with a warm smile.
You were super nervous, you felt like your knees were gonna fail you and let you fall to the ground.
Eventually, you decided to walk up to her.
When Asami saw that you were approaching her, her heart started beating very fast.
You didn't know it, but she was planning to ask you out too.
"Hey, looking for anything in specific?" You asked.
"Not really, I was just looking around to be honest. You're so talented and I always love seeing your work."
"Thank you, you're so sweet."
You both took a deep breath and decided to do what you wanted to.
"Would you like to go out sometime?" You said.
"Would you want to go on a date?" She said at the same time.
You both opened your eyes in surprise and then let out a small giggle.
"I would love to," she answered.
You two agreed on having dinner the next day.
She picked you up and then you both went to the restaurant.
The evening was beautiful, you had fun and and got to know each other a bit better.
After having dinner, you two decided to walk a little, and then you both stopped and decided to look at the stars.
"I have something for you," you said.
She looked at you confused, slightly raising an eyebrow.
You handed her a pair of earrings, the most beautiful earrings she'd ever seen.
"When you first came to my shop I noticed you were wearing some simple earrings and I wanted to give you something like that, too." You said. "I chose a green stone because it matches your eyes."
"They're absolutely beautiful, (Y/N), I love them."
She grabbed your hand and slightly caressed it, making you feel butterflies.
"(Y/N), I'm pretty sure you've already noticed this, but I really like you," she started saying. "I had a wonderful night, and I'd really like to do this again."
"I feel the same way, I really like spending time with you," you answered.
After a small pause, you decided to talk again.
"Is it okay if I kiss you?"
"It's more than okay," she said as she wrapped her arms around your waist.
After the kiss you two stared at each other for a while.
It didn't take you long to make things official.
You were very happy Asami walked into your shop that day, and you were even happier to share your life with her.

Hello, so I had this little nugget of an idea because of a post about how NQS and Kendy are basically Morticia and Gomez Addams in pastels and I thought you'd enjoy it. It's UsaMamo rather than NQS and Kendy bc lets be real, they don't need to be married and rule the world to be like that, but here:
"Okay, but Mamo-chan, you have to admit you were hot as Moonlight Knight!"
"I wasn--"
"Semantics, he was still a part of you, so it still counts!"
The deep sigh that pulled from Mamoru's chest belied that of someone who had had this conversation before and was aware it was a losing battle. There were a few hills he would die on, but this one wasn't one of them, "If you say so, Usako."
"Thank you," She acknowledged primly, before continuing with the conversation despite him and his attempt to end it, "And it's not that you're not hotter as Tuxedo Mask, or even just you-- personally I don't really have a preference."
Mamoru's eyebrows nearly disappeared into his hairline because he knew very well that even if she didn't have a preference she definitely had way more fantasies concerning his masked alter ego than she would probably admit to. Right now, anyway.
She continued on, unfazed, "But Moonlight Knight was just like... Different, you know? Definitely beat the 'dramaticness' of Tuxedo Mask sometimes and the white roses were so dreamy... And the way you said 'ad-ew' every tim--"
"Ad-ew?" He echoed, and she flashed him an adorably irritated look as he interrupted her. The smirk that pulled at his lips was reflexive.
"Yes, the word for Goodbye in French? Ad-ew." She answered, her tone implying the unspoken duh.
The smirk became a full blown smile as he looked at her from his place on the couch. It was a smile she had become very intimate with very quickly after she'd first met him, the smile of a Mamoru who was endlessly amused (and simultaneously thinking she was the most adorable thing in the world, though she had not learned that until much later) with her and her antics. She narrowed her eyes at him.
"What?"
"It's not Ad-ew, Usako."
"It's not?" She untensed, brow furrowed with slight confusion. She knew better than to argue with him about a foreign language when she had barely passed the one foreign language course she'd been required to take.
"No, it's not." He finally set the book he had been reading down on the coffee table, "It's adieu."
There was a small but very audible gasp from her and before he could look up from where he'd placed his book, Usagi had joined him on the couch and left absolutely no space between them as her hands grasped his arm. He jolted slightly in surprise, gaze flying up to see Usagi staring at him with star-struck blue eyes.
"Yes! That was it! Say it again!"
"Ad-adieu?" No matter how many times she'd done this, he couldn't help the blush that heated his cheeks and reddened the tips of his ears at the attention.
She practically melted against his side, hugging his arm as she did sometimes. A dreamy sigh left her.
"Say something else in French, Mamo-chan? Pleaseeee?"
"Usa-"
"My name isn't French!"
Anon! This is super cute! Please make an Ao3 account and write for my personal enjoyment LOL (everyone else can read, too, I suppose lolol.)
But for sure, if this is what you write into an ask box, please consider posting your work!!!!

If u want someone to ask about zero escape….what are you thoughts on Akane and Junpei in ztd compared to 999? Like which characterizations are better to you, and what could the other have done better?
Thank u for taking that tidbit on my description and running with it Thank u Thank u
Okay so you see, this is kind of tricky because while I do have Big criticisms of it as I do almost every aspect of ztd, their characterization is also something I literally described to my friend as pretty much the only worthwhile development in the whole thing? Like I don't think they drop the ball on the two of them or, okay, well at least not that hard, not to the degree that many other threads are dropped or to a degree where it bothers me necessarily
So uuh, yeah! It's complicated! And it's going under a read more because it's a lot apparently! Hi btw if you're new here I'm a Pretty wordy person lol
• Okay so first, Junpei thoughts, finally I have some Junpei thoughts to let loose
One of the big things that stood out to me about Junpei in particular while replaying 999, and well with my friend's perspective on him as well, is that he isn't really allowed to be as dynamic of a character in ztd as he used to be, like I legit forgot why I liked him so much until I revisited 999. He's so jaded during the whole entirety of it that the little bits where he does let anything other than edge shine through is when you're reminded oh yeah that's the same dork, other than that he's pretty one note as either the asshole of c-team or dead. Oh and in love with Akane, did you know he's in love with Akane? I think we should tell the audience again, they didn't hear it the first 90 times including the other games. SORRY I Do like them but it's kind of a peculiar situation how he seems to fall on a bunch of love interest pitfalls usually reserved for female characters, basically every single action and narrative development of his is primarily defined by his relationship with Akane which like I get it but this game is Also trying to pretend she isn't the protagonist at the same time and it just feels off because I would like to think him and at least the Fields would remain in contact after 999 and it's nice that he kind of works with Seven sometimes but it's an especially weird direction as follow up on the set up from vlr since it allowed him to have another person dear to him, which you know Quark is just an X-Pass now since he hasn't adopted him yet if at all and he truly Only cares about Akane and quite literally nothing else not even himself and okay fine go off I don't like that very much if he's supposed to be very average how am I not supposed to wonder about what kind of life he had before the nonary game if he drops everything in it to go after the childhood friend he hardly knew anymore/woman that literally kidnapped him? I can see why that'd be a kind of sort of natural progression for him character wise, I can see the sheer impact of the experience leading him to desperately want closure sure, can also see him starting off less like that but then the line of work takes a toll on his mental health, sure, but I still... don't... vibe. Maybe it's just me not enjoying romance more than half the time but yeah I just don't think it's that great of a direction, I think it doesn't completely not work and i Do like how they still don't entirely get along despite all that, I'll get into that more a bit later I think but still on the subject of only Junpei
In 999 he is great he subverts what you'd expect of a protagonist by starting out with the exact vibes you'd expect from a generic one, again he is a dork, but he is also just a dude super confused and not even necessarily trying to get along with everyone, he just wants out and since he knows June he wants to get her out as well, he even has a pretty unapologetic cold streak on like Door 3 being the most egregious example but even smaller things like cheating on the draw or just the way he conducts himself when pulling off his whole gambit on exposing Ace. And still despite all that his heart's in the right place and he does connect with the people he's stuck with, especially Clover y'know, and he saves a little girl not even only because it's his friend but because it's someone that needed his help and he couldn't just ignore that. Like, I truly think that one of the neat things about their relationship in 999 is that it Is still on pretty equal standing in regards to the narrative, since well it was designed to be as part of the premise, he is getting the puzzle solutions from her sure but mini-Akane only got to witness a bunch of important stuff because Junpei was capable enough to figure those out himself in the present as well. I miss those moments of him figuring shit out and being allowed to be a smooth smartass about it for two seconds and then it goes on cooldown and he's back to dumbass bi disaster hours cracking puns and getting attached to the silliest things to cope with the stress of the situation and no impulse control
Can I talk about how I don't like that one fragment from ztd? Suspicion? That one where he's dead. It is a joke lmao, it's probably just the melodramatic tone moreso than characters actually getting dumber but everyone I've watched get to that part went wow Junpei died and Akane immediately lost braincells okay, like, it would make sense for her to flip her shit! But something about the framing was... Not selling it. It also made me seriously consider wether or not Junpei was, kind of, sort of fridged? Obviously because uh that's just what the imagery evoked but setting aside the gender stuff about this trope for a bit can we acknowledge that like, Akane gets impactful moments relating to vlr stuff while all he gets is to be collateral of those moments? He really doesn't do much of his own accord. I also will much more fiercely defend that Phi was definitely fridged but that's not who we're talking about now kajsks
• Here I go talking shit about how their relationship is handled in ztd despite enjoying it in theory
Okay remember when I mentioned I enjoy how they aren't entirely getting along? Well yeah! I think it's pretty great that we get to see how the trauma is still there and how junpei doesn't entirely know what to think of the whole thing after finding her again and immediately being given the cold shoulder and how he wants it to be acknowledged while Akane wants to keep pretending she's someone else so she can do what she was there to do and then leave and not be reminded of all the feelings she indeed has under all her calmness, because, for once, she didn't plan for him to be there at all. But that's almost just the premise and the little bits we get from D-com before it went to shit, during the actual game I think it could've developed the idea that That's where their relationship is at much much better. Instead of, like, not only immediately jumping to getting engaged but getting engaged at the fucking death game too. Like if there was at least any room to breathe before he actually gets to propose y'know? Gets kind of old dying on different fragments over and over and only gathering that the weird thing he's holding is a ring because it rolls off one of the times and have the immediate reaction be wait seriously? Aw ok. I think if he wasn't obsessed about it and just idk found it in the common area and did the proposing as a spur of the moment thing after they've already done some shifting bullshit it'd be much better, he's impulsive like that and I think it'd make it feel like there was actual progression from where their relationship started out y'know?
• Akane is the writer's favorite character and it shows (honorific)
The thing with Akane on the other hand is that, well, I most definitely don't prefer her in ztd, but I almost feel like it would be incomplete to look at her character in the other games without the context we get here? I just wish it was I dunno on a fucking leaflet instead of part of this game lol I feel like ztd is the time where they Best convey the idea they had of her as the ''World's Worst Heroine'' and everything, I feel like in the other games she is too... defendable? For that title? Is that the word I'm looking for here? You could look at her in 999 and completely justify her actions or even just comprehend them, you don't really have too much context from her perspective in VLR but it's easy to do the same depending on who you are, easier even. In ztd, however, we actually get to see first-hand the messed up things she's capable of including her mindset going into preparing the AB game. Not that we couldn't surmise it from context and actually playing through it, but watching her actually say the ends justify the means as she drugs junpei into passing out again while still being able to see how it just pains her to with the callback to when they were kids is pretty much a buckwild fucking wow moment for me still, and I think her being aggressively theistic up to that point is also good spice as I've once discussed already.
And the thing is? I don't think 999 could have showed us that side of her at all, I can imagine that side to her being there as zero while in the planning stage, or while Junpei is away from her in the game, all I want but that could never be in the game proper aside from the implications it already has. It couldn't fit, if she ever slipped in her charade in a way that clues the audience in more than we already are then it circles back into undermining the very point that she is scary good at this, mini-Akane still hasn't fostered so many of those traits for us to know from her either, all of that. I like to pretend only 999 happens a lot but even then I wonder what if it actually was the only game in the franchise how much my perception of her character would be different then, y'know?
That being said, while I think ztd ties a bunch of things together in respect that we finally get to see her without putting on a big farce, I also think it had a bunch of missed opportunities? But that I'd say is derived mostly from how the game itself is paced and structured, all that jazz and, look, I love shifting junkie himbo Carlos, enjoy c-team ot3 as much as the next guy but he is. Just. A Guy. And their interactions having to go through such a vanilla ass character's thick skull most of the time almost annoys me? I think what annoys me is that he's so out of the loop while both the characters around him And the audience are begging to know about what's happened since 999. Like on a basic dialogue level he just doesn't bring much to the table despite having a background that would make you think he would. It is staggering how much of a creep they make him come across as just for gross anime little sister jokes and despite enjoying what they did for Akane's general sense of dark freaking humor, it drives me absolutely insane how Akane seems like she forgot she isn't an only child to enable those particular jokes, or how she has literally no aversion to fucking Fire, and this one's probably a me thing tbh but there's a minor interaction from an item where she was the one positively thinking back on how nice nurses were like girl how do you let yourself have a single good memory related to hospitals after everything. Whatever Carlos has going on with Junpei is okay though, I like how jaded ass junpei rags on him being so selfless every chance he gets, don't love it but it's okay
• Okay there's a tldr about Junpei and Akane, aka what you actually asked about, after this next paragraph because I needed to rag on this particular aspect of ztd a bit, you know for my sanity, cause sure I had fun with the shifting segment but it's pretty fucked
OH MAN I have to get this out of my chest Know the Whole thing with the aliens?? It drives me insane how the only reason it's there probably it's that they had both vlr to follow up on and the Stupid premise of the decision game, at some point they realized oops if only three people can survive the game but five of these people need to make it through the fucking apocalypse what do?? And they went with just copy paste two of them from another timeline like. what. It's a poor premise for a death game in this universe to begin with, it's very saw-ish and while you can justify it as a character thing it's still just. Not an environment that is as thought provoking or as good for enabling character stuff as the ones that came before, the whole narrative isn't. I say the time travel becomes the main character after 999 and I stand by that, the gimmick that they choose to flesh out isn't very well conducive to actual character studies, so as the series goes on the form and the time travel and mechanics related to that become way more interesting by design to pick apart than most of the new cast. Unfortunately even the old cast suffers from that being the case, fucking shifting itself is something I majorly dislike in relation to a bunch of character stuff especially pertaining to these two, but if I dare say maybe having the characters have very little qualms about offing themselves at the drop of a hat is at best boring and dull and lessens the impact of literally everything that's come in their stories before and why should I care about getting Akane to survive in 999 if we're treating every timeline as equally devoid of merit well then that'd be kind of missing the point of the many timelines bullshit wouldn't it? Life is unfair, yadda yadda, nihilism doesn't inherently bother me I'm a Hello charlotte fan for fucks sake but here we are, I won't even pretend Akane going on about the anthropic principle didn't capture something kinda special for me, but you know what absolutely irked me? The q-team epilogue, that just goes hey, and what if, we tried to split the timeline even faaaarther back before literally everything, doesn't even solve the nonary game existing by the way but the Kurashikis probably wouldn't end up involved how about that huh no 999 then huh that's like a microcosm of what bugs me through the whole game, that's where it hurts where it doesn't only present this idea of hey what if nothing has inherent meaning to it and shit just changes based on circumstance as it's only philosophical backbone it Also constantly points at things and iconography from the past games because it knows they're things you've already embed with meaning, and then it scrambles and shuffles them until it's a purposefully shallow and inconsequential backdrop. Did Phi need to get incinerated? No, but you remember when Akane did so it'll pull on the heartstrings easier if that's how she dies. Why is the mystery person going by Q? He has way too many aliases and none of them relate to the letter, but hey remember the twist about the last door? Remember bases? Did you know the CQD thing is a reference to the distress signal used before SOS? Remember when we were on a ship? Well it doesn't really matter, because nothing does, but we can't get that point across without familiarity. The narrative is about that idea, 15 seconds of anime speech at the ending don't change that, and in a way that just ends up undermining every other game that came prior. It is not about these characters anymore.
Tldr; I greatly prefer Junpei in 999 and would have appreciated if ztd at least gave him more to do than propose and I think not getting specifics on his background hurts that whole development for him. Akane though while I still prefer her in the context of 999 I greatly appreciate most of the characterization she gets in ztd and I end up falling back on it even when imagining her going through the second nonary game, I just wish she also remembered Aoi exists and had things related to her past trauma actually bother her. Lastly I ranted about how I think shifting as it's handled in ztd kneecaps their characters and even the whole story of the franchise for me, and how the reason for all these draw backs is that, aside from 999, the time travel is the main character and not the actual characters.
So there you go!
