#and inferiority complex
Note
Hey I’ve been struggling with developing a character’s inferiority complex. Do you have any tips on ways to show not tell this?
How to write an inferiority complex
An inferiority complex can be described as a chronic low self-esteem, a consistent feeling of inadequacy.
Causes:
a low status in the social hierarchy
specific aspects about themself (physical or something else) that are looked down upon in society
being talked down on a lot
a lack of parental acceptance
failing to live up to high expectations put upon them
not reaching a goal they decided on themself
How to show a character's inferiority complex:
People act differently with this diagnosis, sometimes also depending on the situation and the person they are with. Here are some ideas.
show them focussing on negative aspects a lot
not being able to see it when something did work out well for them
talking badly about themself
withdrawing from friends and family
not being able to take a compliment or criticism
demeaning other's as a way to make other's feel as bad as they do
trying to get attention and even pity
can be shown through perfectionism
and not being able to cope well if something does not fit into the standard they have
I hope this helps you out!

How did Elesa get a Blitzle as a starter if she's from Sinnoh? (hang on this is ironic she could've learned about warden ingo in school back there)

Blitzle Elesa backstory under cut!
Blitzle was gifted to Elesa so she has an “easier time” integrating into Nimbasa by her well meaning dad. This is not the greatest move, since the two feel they are more obligated to stick together then, you know, actually choose each other. Blitzle’s meant to be a utility mon— he helps charge elesa’s hearing aid batteries and basically serves as an emotional support when things get rough. He’s… not the biggest fan. (I like to imagine Blitzle was originally part of a battle track, but his IVs aren’t the greatest so they shuffled him out. He’s a bit bitter about that.)
Tumblr media
Inciting incident where they actually start taking the proper steps to becoming partners is when Elesa takes a tumble down a hill and Blitzle twists his foreleg going after her. (Local child eats shit! More at 11.)

They’re just kids, and they’re still learning.
(When Elesa decides to challenge the gyms, Blitzle’s so excited he accidentally trips their house’s circuits.)
((As for Elesa hearing about Warden Ingo, well… that’ll be a future issue.))
((DIRECTLY INSPIRED BY THIS ASK!! TY @scarftale-bryan ))

Yes. YES.

sometimes honestly if you're feeling invalid/anxious/any sort of negative feeling about your selfship , you just have to go back to canon. and i know it seems like such an easy answer but you really do have to. it is always SO comforting to me when i'm feeling bad about things to just see my f/os normally, without any fan interpretation or characterization or opportunities for jealousy involved; to remember why i fell in love with them and that no one can take that specific experience away from me. that other people's thoughts on the character don't matter because at the end of the day, none of it has any bearing on canon and no one can "know" a character any better than anyone else. it really really does work and i wish id realized it sooner

This is how the creators, Catra fans, and c//a fans view Catra
Tumblr media
It's not even hiding how wrong this is if they actually genuinely believe that Catra is right about everything, especially in the portal world where everything is only perfect to her, not Adora
Too many fans say, "oh, she's got an inferiority complex🥺" when she's so fucking selfish and self absorbed that she doesn't see anything wrong in her past war crimes (even during her redemption arc with the half-assed apologies she gives)
Somehow the people who support Catra the most make her out to be always right and Adora in the wrong for leaving her (WHICH SHE FUCKING DIDN'T), despite the fact that Catra canonically uses phrases like this to manipulate people like Adora
Whenever I see people talk about c//a, they always hyper foxus on Catra and her trauma (which is still valid, mind you), but when any of them mentions Adora, it's always one of the following:
Simping over her muscles in both her normal and She-Ra forms
Calling her a dumb, jock lesbian (she's been proven to actually be very smart)
Connecting everything unrelated to Catra to her love for Catra (even the connection between stars and Catra's freckles somehow???)
Claiming that Adora is abusive to Catra because of her She-Ra powers (Catra has literally been shown to be the abuser, not Adora)/left her alone to the big bad Horde people (Adora literally asked her personally to join her while Catra refused and willingly stayed in the Horde, despite knowing that the Horde was bad)
Claiming that Adora wasn't abused as much as Catra just because she was the golden child of the Horde (in reality, Adora being the golden child IS considered abuse, even if it's not similar to the scapegoat type of abuse Catra endured)
Catra is wrong for having to manipulate Adora into believing her and I'm sad that this wasn't picked up on during season five when she was supposed to be redeemed
Catra actively expects the princesses to forgive her for killing many innocent lives, including Glimmer's mom, and making Adora feel guilty for things outside of her control (seriously, she apologized to Catra for dying, despite the fact that she was doing it to protect the universe)
Catra was wrong and nothing was perfect about their relationship!

"There is some question as to whether Rodrigo is actually Juan's father, so he feels constant need to prove he is a real Borgia, Juan has a lot of flair and personality, but he's also perhaps a bit naïve and a little weaker than his brother. That compels him to compensate with bravado, which makes him dangerous." — DAVID OAKES

Now I'm curious cause of your tag. What did Swedish media say about the eurovision thing?
Oof yeah, here's a post detailing it ... here another... Basically they've absolutely flipped over the fact that Finnish public didn't give Loreen points at all (which I find absolutely hilarious) and suddenly started wielding such rhetoric as "the former eastern part of our kingdom" referring to Finland, which is???? like??? do I even need to say how Not Okay that is?
It might seem to some that the Finnish people are reacting to Sweden's (unfair) win and them being sore winners (which, points to them, I didn't know was possible!) with too much drama, but it's all tied to our history together. Finland has traditionally seen itself, and has been seen by other countries (Sweden included) as the sort of "little brother" to the more advanced, better-faring, glorious Sweden. While Sweden to my knowledge doesn't much care about what Finland gets up to (perhaps overlooking/ignoring us and our merits), Finland is always comparing itself to Sweden and trying to live up to it. It's a very common rhetoric and sort of, the atmosphere over here. We know more about Sweden than Sweden knows about us; we're constantly conscious that Sweden exists. Sweden gets talked about in international news; Finland, if mentioned, is often tied to - you guessed it - being Sweden's neighboring country.
We used to be part of Sweden for 600 years. During that time, Swedish was implemented as the language of the culture and the "civilised" whereas the finns living in the eAstErn pArT oF tHe kiNgDoM were seen as "wild" and "uncivilised" and just, generally a lesser people to the Swedish speaking population. We haven't been under Sweden's rule for some 200 years and STILL we can't seem to shake their influence on us. Swedish is still a mandatory language to learn at school (and I have many opinions on that, but that'd be another post). Finnish as a language has been disregarded for its whole existence. Our leading national thinkers and poets in the 19th century, who were the first ones to really push for the Finnish identity instead of us seeing ourselves as part of Sweden or Russia, wrote in Swedish. The first novel in Finnish was published in 1870.
So this is monumental to us, to have the whole word watching Finland and not Sweden. Finland has a lot of merits, especially considering how small a people we are (just 5,5mil). To have a song in our language, in Finnish be this popular, is something we couldn't have imagined. We as a people are humble to the extreme, so much that we might easily scorn anyone who is too successful (not a good thing!), and this is the first time in my life that I'm seeing the whole country rally behind someone like this. When we say "Our Jere" we mean it with our whole hearts. We're so so proud of him, everyone is, and for once Finnish people seem to think in unison that someone deserves all the praise and the success.
SO, to have Sweden in this UNIQUE moment of Finland raising its head and being "we're so amazing", with the rest of Europe going "yes you're so amazing!!", spew rhetoric like this, is just, unbelievable to me. Like I can't just believe that in the 21st century there are people in Sweden who hold up 200 year old thought patterns of our country. It's been shocking 'cos though there's always been rivalry, it's felt more... tongue in cheek. We "love to hate" Sweden over here. It's been "I hate Sweden (affectionate)". But now we find this unbelievably condescending and belittling attitude towards us raising its head, and we wonder, we thought we two were okay?? But have they always held these beliefs???
So there's a sense of betrayal in the air as well. And just, full on disbelief. And maybe we're starting to see that it has been like this all along, but we've decided to turn a blind eye to it? True colours shining through? Perhaps not... but yeah.
Sweden not looking good here!
(here's one more post that says the same that i did but was better at making it SHORT oops)

Obsessed with the Jon Snow in my head. Goes to penal colony boarding school and beats everyone else up bc they’re poor and smelly. And then he is Oppressed when they call him a rich asshole. Even when he finally makes friends he broods but refuses to tell anyone what’s wrong when they ask because they aren’t on his intellectual level and no one could possibly understand his tortured psyche. Everyone’s most extremely ride-or-die friend but also the most insufferable.
