(long post about purgatory and meta and rp)
sigh one thing ive been thinking is that it feels a bit unfair to see so many people complaining or doomposting over how purgatory affects the overarching qsmp rp story or how it ~interrupted arcs~ or is ~disturbing current storylines~ or ~narratively unsatisfying~ like. Sure. its a bit abrupt and most players were caught off guard because lore-wise it stems from the federation which means none of them were told about anything beforehand
but... its only been three days. maybe we could have a little faith? like idk ill be soooooo out there rn and say that maybe the admins did this now for a reason. maybe itll make sense later on. we already see lore repercussions with elquackity and his motives and all the nods to the eggs.
theres fair criticism to be made (when done respectfully) if youre mainly here for the roleplay but i feel like we sometimes need to remind ourselves that the qsmp storytelling is a VERY ambitious project. lmao. imagine being the writing team and trying to wrangle 20+ characters with distinct points of view and journeys on an ever-changing story because of the very nature of live rp. its practically IMPOSSIBLE to tie up every loose end neatly and at this point i dont think we should expect that. keeping up momentum with all plotlines must also be pretty hard, cc's schedules and outside factors like server programming and building and mod tweaking and all those meta elements considered and so on and so on
i DO also want the story to move forward and be cohesive and make sense in a satisfactory way. like i really do!!!!!!! but i try to understand that thats not ALL the qsmp is about. from the start quackity said the server wouldn't be exclusive to the rp aspect. it sure is that way right now, but thats because most of the active members are VERY passionate about roleplaying. thats a good thing! they have fun and its fun to watch and the experience is mostly good for everyone because it corresponds to their expectations to an extent
the thing about purgatory is that i feel like its a lot more meta than most people doomposting realize. it ties into the story, sure, but to me it feels like the sudden switch in environment and vibes and stakes isnt actually catered to the rp and thats FINE. like thats not what it exists for and thats fineeeeeee
pac for one has said he appreciates the event for the change of pace, though its very hard (lol), because regular qsmp was starting to feel a bit stale to him and he was kind of running out of things to do. THATS A GREAT THING! managing player engagement like that is awesome and sometimes necessary. YES, purgatory caters to a very different playstyle than what we're used to -- and thats one of its strenghts.
a lot of hispanic creators have also felt this!!!! roier, rivers and carre most prominently have been VERY excited about this event because its similar in format to a lot of spanish speaking events like mc extremo and such. a lot of these players are also not particularly interested in rp-ing and had not been logging on very often prior to purgatory.
even roleplay regulars like tubbo, fit and bbh have shown interest in purgatory for the competitive nature of the setting!!! thats cool too!!!! something different, new possibilities to play around with. thats what the events should be about. kudos to the admins and dev teams for attempting it in such a big scale. their effort shows and all the mechanics weve seen are really fucking cool
i love the roleplay!!!!!! its one of my favorite parts of the qsmp!!!!!! but its not ALL there is and it shouldnt be! non rp-oriented creators are also part of the project and deserve to have a little fun too -- not to mention a big chunk of the hispanic fan community that has blown up twitter with support bc what we have rn is similar to events they already love!!!!!!! im glad to see so many of them get excited again!!!!!!
at the end of the day, qsmp is a LONG long term project, and purgatory ends in two weeks. by the time its over, we can all choose to engage with it as we wish. it can be a big filler episode in your mind, if you want. it can be just for fun..... otherwise, if its not fun, your regularly scheduled qsmp will be back soon anyway :3 its fine to not like it, its fine to have something negative to say about it if properly tagged and not like. crazy entitled or blown out of proportion for what this situation is.
i just hope we can all manage our online experiences accordingly and avoid making things less enjoyable for each other. this is supposed to be fun

So you're tired of making boyfriend ASMR and you want to move on to making cinematic audio roleplays huh? You came to the right place hot stuff, here's a crucial tip. If you want to make cinematic audios, you have to collab. This is non-negotiable. You need multiple voices to make your story feel cinematic and grand in scale.
"But Escaped!" you say, "I'm too embarrassed to ask, who would want to collab with me? I'm nobody".
Shut the fuck up you sexy-voiced SON OF A BITCH. You are somebody! You are a creative person with a unique vision. If you show passion for your own creativity, your passion will spread to other people and they will enthusiasticaly join.
"But collabs take longer, the algorithm will cut my reach if I don't upload 3 times a week!" you say.
Fuck the algorithm. Also that's not even true, just get good engagement early on from your core fanbase and the algorithm will give you reach. The problem is that you'll never get a core fanbase in the first place if your audios fucking suck. Make audios that don't suck and you'll get reach. Desmond ASMR uploads once a century and still gets reach because his audios are actually worth getting excited for.
"But Escaped, I don't need to collab! I can do lots of voices!" you say, "Also, why are you in my house with a bag of frozen lemons?"
"DELUSION!" I shout, as I beat the shit out of you with a bag of frozen lemons for five minutes. You might be able to do multiple voices, but you should only voice multiple characters when they have radically different voices, and even then limit it to one or two additional characters. People will pick up on the common denominators in your voice's pitch and timbre. Eventually it will always sound like you are a mad man talking to himself. Your audience won't envision the scene, they will envision you sweating inside of a cramped sound booth. I promise, people can tell when you are talking to a different version of yourself with a whacky accent. It's confusing and sounds cheap.
"But Escaped! I feel bad asking for other VAs to voice all those lines!" you protest. Fucking why? Kill that mindset with a gun. Voice actors love to voice act, most find it refreshing and fun to be able to act without the added responsibility of having to write, edit, and promote the audio. People especially love to play villains, losers, and other characters that they can play free of the pressure of having to be likable or endearing to the audience.
"BUT ESCAPED!" you say, nervously eying my lemon bag "I... I don't need to write supporting character dialogue, I can just leave pauses for implied dialogue like with the Listener character right?"
My fury reaches its apotheosis. I swing the lemon bag with the strength of twenty-seven demigods. When you wake up from your coma a month later, I spit in your face. Implied dialogue is there for the audience to self-insert, it is for Listeners only. What the fuck are you doing using it for supporting characters? I should kill you. It makes you sound like you're talking to invisible, silent ghosts. It makes the listener feel like they're a prisoner, being spoken to by their deranged captor. It makes you look like a lonely dweeb loser who couldn't get anyone to come to his birthday party. And in fight scenes? Forget about it. Swinging your fists at silent, invisible enemies? Being like "Oh yeah, you think you're tough? Take this!" at no one? Motherfucker who are you talking to?
I promise, having just one or two additional voices give a handful of lines will elevate your story far beyond what it would have been without them. You listeners will feel like they are part of a much bigger, living world rather than a strange hollow world where only one human being in the entire universe has the ability to speak.
Anyway have fun! Mwah mwah mwah, I love you, go make some kick ass audios.

genshin characters as your streamer bf/gf !
character x gn!reader
includes albedo, childe, kaeya, xiao, and hu tao!
warnings : none.
a/n : these ended up being longer than i expected, so im splitting up the post a bit <3 hope you enjoy :D
Tumblr media
ALBEDO - THE MINECRAFT YOUTUBER
albedo gives me wilbur soot vibes, minus the height.
if anyone in genshin were to join a minecraft smp just to reenact hamilton and be a jason dean kinnie, itd be albedo and im absolutely right about this.
teaches klee how to play too, his most popular stream was when they beat the ender dragon together :)
he also seems like the type to strictly use minecraft education edition, which is also totally valid because some of the recipes in there are literally so cool ???
pulls a dantdm and has his own minecraft lab and everything, doing all his silly little experiments!
“surcose, we need to sell drugs out of a van RIGHT NOW.”
when chat found out you and albedo were dating, there were two reactions.
one side was really happy for you both, the other was albedos parasocial fangirls who immediately put you on a hitlist.
seriously, if you had a dollar for everytime you were @ed in tweets about writing your name in a death note, youd have enough money to pay for every single persons therapy appointments.
youre always there to cheer him on when hes in mcc, his own little personal cheerleader :)
you show up at his office and just.. stand in front of the door, staring at him through the window. it sounds weird yes, but the shocked expression on his face is worth the wait for him to notice.
CHILDE - THE GRAND THEFT AUTO ONLINE ROLEPLAYER
“no chat i have not gone red. im just startled, thats all.”
Tumblr media
childe is the type of fella to participate in the most wacky roleplays on gta online, and i am sticking by this headcannon.
hes done everything from a drug empire to owning his own country, nothing is off limits.
surprisingly hes a really good actor? when youre watching his streams you dont get the cringey second hand embarrassment, its just fun entertainment :D
it took his chat wayyy to long to realize how fine he is, although to be fair he did have mostly men watching him. (not like thats an excuse or anything.)
i feel hes definitely been nominated for a streamy before! whether or not you think he deserves to win is up to you though LMAO
“only a small percentage of my viewers are actually subscribed-”
childe leaked your relationship by accident once by having a tab open of your instagram while he was streaming.
when chat confronted him, he kind of just… ended stream. (real smooth.)
fans went to your instagram afterwards and saw pictures of you two together and started posting them to twitter, and childe ended up on trending because of it.
you felt indifferent to the whole thing, but childe was panicking. he didnt want to let his viewers into that part of his life just yet, but he was, scientifically speaking, caught lacking.
you dont appear on streams much, and childe still avoids allegations about your relationship entirely. its not that he doesnt want to show you off, he does! he just doesnt like having less differentiation between his online persona and his private life.
“whos instagram are you stalking…? thats gonna be all from me chat goodnight!”
KAEYA - THE VALORANT STREAMER
Tumblr media
kaeya doesnt play valorant because hes good at it, but because its fun to mess with the fanbase.
you know THOSE vtubers who are.. weirdly sexual? kaeya is like that but he does it in a satirical way.
likes messing with the homophobes too, but everyone still debates on what his sexuality is (kind of like jschlatt.)
definitely is problematic on twitter on purpose just to get people to talk about him, hes a little bit of an attention whore but we love him anyways <3
has never apologized for anything hes said or done EVER, and doesnt plan on it either.
“what do you mean i got canceled on twitter AGAIN? its only been 3 days!”
chat didnt believe him when he said he was in a relationship. so be dragged your ass into his room to show them.
it didnt work though, they thought you were a paid actor for the next 2 months LMAO
it got to a point where kaeya was doing literally anything on stream to convince chat, and finally you had enough.
you told him to take a break from streaming, he was way too obsessed with trying to prove something that doest matter to anybody but the two of you.
something finally clicked in his head, and after that you dont appear on camera as much anymore. for the most part people believe that you two are together, but hell still get donations joking around that they dont think youre a couple, simply because its funny.
“thank you for 200 bits! ….i am retracting my thank you.”
XIAO - THE LEAGUE OF LEGENDS PLAYER
Tumblr media
i dont have any reason for this connection, other than it feels right.
if xiao werent a league player i would suggest smite, he just seems like hed be more into team games like that rather than overwatch or valorant.
just because hes my favorite doesnt mean im letting him off easily, league players get no rights <3 and xiao is no exception.
unironically listens to k/da as well, knows all the choreography but will literally never admit to it.
everyone in his chat has channel points stacked up to tell him to hydrate, he tends to forget when he gets really into the match.
“stream more by k/da for clear skin. no i will NOT be giving you a demo, i dont want a dmca.”
youre xiaos number one bully, and chat is always there to back you up.
when i played lol i was an ahri main, so stick with me here, its about to get real self indulgent.
youre a cosplayer, and one of your favorite ways to mess with your boyfriend is to dress up as his favorite characters. (peak s/o behavior right there.)
chat teased him heavily for his reaction, you could hear my chemical romance being blasted from the bedroom that night.
something about the cosplayer x gamer trope is just sooo <3
“you have no respect for league of legends players.” (duh - an ex league player)
HU TAO - THE DEAD BY DAYLIGHT PLAYER
Tumblr media
when hu tao first heard about dbd i imagine she thought it would be an easy way to gain new clients, now she sticks around because its fun to terrorize people as killer, and be an absolute menace as survivor.
i think shed be a nurse main, but one of those that are insanely good at playing nurse. she wins the game in no time because her teleports are perfect.
i can only imagine how many people have rage quit because of her.
along with dead by daylight, i see her just overall being a horror game player. lots of five nights at freddys, resident evil, etc.
shes never gotten scared on camera before, chat has tried but shes always one step ahead.
“i lied, i dont actually like sex. put your clothes back on i need to explain to you the entirety of the five nights at freddys timeline.”
hu taos favorite pastime is scaring you, she stays on top of the newest horror content specifically because of that. (oh, and its also kind of her brand. but she puts you first <3)
shed sacrifice herself in a heartbeat if youre playing dead by daylight together. she always says if at least you survive its good enough of a victory for her too.
she also has gone on record to say yall are playing the security breach dlc the day it drops. run while you still have the chance.
youve tried to convince her to tweet at shayne and ryan about being on an episode of ghost files but everytime she just suggests to play phasmophobia instead. like cmon girl those are two different things.
even thought shes trying to scare you on purpose, you know shes always got your back if something happens.
“ha look at your face! …okay okay im sorry! come here, youre fine, ive got you.”

tl:dr i'm placing all my blogs on indefinite hiatus, i'll be putting that in my pinned posts as well.
Well. I made the decision. it's been coming for a while tbh, i've taken a lot of breaks in the last few months, and if i'm honest i never really wanted to stop these breaks. I'm not having fun roleplaying here anymore. It's an ugly truth, but its a truth.
I don't want to blame anyone but myself, please don't get this wrong. But i want to explain myself and i want to be honest. And also, i'm very sorry about incoherent rambling, i can't really help it right now.
I feel like i had no involvement in this community anymore. Which is... objectively false, but that doesn't help me feel better. All the people that made me join rotomblr either left themselves or they evolved so much and so fast that i can't keep up. There are new people as well, and there are many that i like a lot, but in the end, rotomblr is changing way too fast for me to keep up and it simply kills all my joy and motivation. (again, i don't blame anyone here. I want you to have fun. It's just sad that i can't be part of the fun)
I have tried a lot to bring my motivation back to rotomblr by making A LOT of blogs, some have been very well received, some are not getting any attention. And again, i understand that. I don't want anyone to force themself to be into something they're not. And i understand much much better that i can't just expect a blog i created 5 minutes ago to get asks and followers in the hundreds. But this is, in the end, another reason for me to feel left out.
I also tried to plan an event, i tried making a story and none of it really went anywhere. I don't know how you do it. I don't know how you can go and plan something like this, and how you work together with people like this, and i just can't keep it up anymore. It's gotten so bad that i actually fear opening the app on my phone. I don't read my favourite blogs anymore. And since i realized that, i also realized i need to make a change.
In addition, there is also real life, and other hobbies, and all of it is draining the limited time i have as well as my mental capacity and lately have been getting REALLY depressed. Not specifically because of rotomblr, but i think it's been a part of it.
So. I have made the decision to put all of my blogs on hiatus. I don't want to delete them, because i had it often that i just gave up on a hobby or a game or a book and came back to it after a long time. And honestly, i like a lot of the characters. They are very dear to me, and most of them only live through tumblr, and i don't want to lose them. But i don't have concrete plans to come back anytime soon.
On the other hand, i won't leave the few discord servers i'm in, mostly because i still really like the community and i consider quite a few of you people good friends by now.
PS: I am so incredibly upset with myself it's unbelievable. When i made the blog and started having really a lot of fun, i said to myself that i want to keep this hobby up for one year. That was my goal. And i failed. FUCK. On the other hand i have been ignoring rotomblr for a bit already and it's been kinda freeing. so... yeah... meh.

Chronicling The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - The Impact of the Player's Actions, and Making the World a Better Place
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just have to gush a bit more on the topic of player impact and how the world around you is shaped by your actions.
This part of the game was one of my absolute favorites. Meeting the Hero's Shade. Despite Skyward Sword taking the advancements in wiggle technology to give Link a flurry of new moves, I feel like Twilight Princess made learning and using these moves feel more fun and emotionally important to the player. While I never knew until now just how many of those moves came from Twilight Princess, and just how many never made it past Twilight Princess, while I was playing I actually felt more motivated to use these moves because they had been taught to me by a loving teacher.
You see, the first time I met the Hero's Shade, I was moved by his story. Once a Hero, now forgotten by time, with no heir or apprentice to pass his skills onto. You feel for this guy. All he wants in his afterlife is to give something to you — how could I possibly say no?
But as I did this sidequest to acquire his skills, I cared a little less about the situational and overtly flashy moves he taught me (some of them have been very useful, though not all), and I started to care more about the Hero's Shade itself. It's one of those moments where I have to tell myself "it's just a video game" as I tear up a bit, reading his heartfelt relief in having passed on his final lessons. Especially that line:
"At last, I have eased my regrets"
This quote hit me hard in the feels, as one might say. This has been one of those tiny moments; a narrow slit in an otherwise locked door; a glimpse into and beyond a virtual character, where I got to feel a supreme understanding of a whole character's being. One where the controller in my paws ceases to exist. My screen is no longer a barrier, and the low res textures and sharp models of a game older than some who might be reading this. That's where I feel truly connected to this beautiful world that these talented, passionate people have created, and to the character on my screen at that time.
This is a feeling that's been all too foreign to me since last I played Majora's Mask. I'm a huge Elder Scrolls fan, and have spent countless hours in each game. And despite all being titled roleplaying games, I've never felt this way about any of the characters I've seen in games like Skyrim or Oblivion.
Unlike these games that are often lauded for their immersion and roleplaying prowess, Twilight Princess truly immersed me. You may only have one role to start with, and you may only have one role to grow into. But damn it, if this doesn't do a better service to traditional roleplaying games than Skyrim could ever do. Because the magic of roleplaying games that studios seem to have forgotten since the times where tabletop was all you had, is in how the player can impact the world, and change it for better or for worse. To know that who you choose to help isn't meaningless, and that helping is worth doing.
Tumblr media
( Maybe I just didn't receive as much praise as a kid as I really needed, so being told so bluntly how appreciative characters are for what I did for them hits me especially hard.)
I'm nearing the end of my playthrough for Twilight Princess, and I already have so many fond memories. So many beloved characters that I've walked alongside, and now genuinely care for. I want to see them have a better life. I know it's not as heavy as Majora's Mask and its looming threat impacting all peoples in one way, but the trouble of these small folk matter to me nonetheless.
But when I got to help the Hero's Shade ease his regrets, or help Midna get the mirror back so we can stop Zant, or even just help Agitha get all the bugs for her ball. No matter who I decided to help, all met me with genuine, heartfelt gratefulness. And in big ways and small, I feel the world of Hyrule was made better because of it.
I'm excited to see how this game finishes. I feel a bit sad at the thought of it ending, and not getting to see Midna again in any official capacity (unless I pick up Hyrule Warriors, which I might honestly do, I think I need more of Midna in my life), but I also feel glad to have experienced this wonderful game. I'm crestfallen that this game so rarely gets the discussion it so dearly deserves. And I'm elated that I decided to write this little blog, knowing there's likely only going to be one person reading this after I hit post. And whether or not that person is you reading this now, or someone else who will find this through the tags or stumble upon it by pure happenstance — thank you for reading from my brain's open forum. Expect a final piece to this chronicle once I've beaten the game — assuming I don't have more fangirling to do before so.

I like to roleplay on twitter and one of the characters i write is, surprise surprise, emperor. and one day i got bored and decided ''fuck it. this bitch is very susceptible to melting'' and its been like that since pretty much i started musing him BUT I wanted to put some ideas I had here to actually make it something kind of serious instead of something mildly annoying and thought ''Splatoon tumblr might like this so ''
FICTIONAL ILLNESS TIME:
So yeah! Basically they can melt. Heat is a factor in it but it's mostly stress and exhaustion that causes it. It's kind of like in ''stages'' is the best way I can describe it: either he melts very little and only the surface/skin layer gets disrupted and melts or it's deeper and his skin starts getting seperated into more pure ink so its just that specific part of the whole body getting disrupted. Usually it causes a change of skin color (as in instead of a skin color its like. the ink color itself) and it's a lot worst, covers a much larger area and said area is VERY malleable. Like to the point of ''My face is melting and kind of falling off oh god oh fuck''. When he starts solidifying again everything is pretty much okay though! Their hands/face/whatever will solidify into whatever shape it's supposed to be (if missing small pieces that heal themselves in time). Melting generally starts from where ink pressure is the lowest (aka furthest away from the ink sac because i cant think of anything else that works), so the ears, fingers, toes, so on.
Mind you, it doesn't HURT to be melting. Sometimes it's that weird numb tingly static leg feeling, sometimes it's just numbness. Melting is more dangerous in that unless it's a surface layer it's kind of like having a REALLY wide open wound so that opens it up to infections (and lets not forget the airborne ink eating bacteria because THAT doesnt fucking help.) He CAN'T lose limbs from it but they CAN lose body mass from it. It's usually okay unless he's melting really fucking bad though and if it's too much the body can't recover all of it. Not fun. (And again, as mentioned earlier, they can lose small bits of their body but those DO regenerate.)
Rest and liquids help when someone is melting but because their body is trying to recover itself they're probably gonna be various levels of tired after/during it if they werent tired from doing whatever else they were doing already.
for Emperor specifically I imagine this very much inspired how Emperor's Road and their team formation worked as they generally don't need to move or exhaust themselves all too much to overwhelm their enemy aswell as making an unbreakable wall. Win/win for him essentially!
Anyways thats all i have for now thank u for coming to my SquibTalk

🔥 your thoughts on how the fandom treats hu tao
Send me a “ 🔥 “ for an unpopular opinion. ( @myjustice thank you!)
Tumblr media
First I'll make the disclaimer right off the bat saying that I know not everyone is going to have the same opinion on a character. If there is one thing I noticed since dabbling into the Genshin Fandom is that Hu Tao overly simplified. Seen nothing more than just a chaotic gremlin who pranks people and gives coffin discounts.
And you know. Sure that's part of her. I find it kind of endearing about her. But she is sooo much more than that. The fandom seems to think her only personality trait is being quirky. And I feel while fun, that just tarnishes her character development.
Like to be honest, I recently completed the story quest for Baizhu in game...and while her cameo was sorta small it spoke volumes of the type of character Hu Tao really was. Here she is trying to balance the idea of life and death, while she's been faced with the ethical dilemma of immortality. She truly takes her role as a funeral director and the traditions surrounding it very seriously.
She is also extremely perspective. Sure she can spook people with a scary story, but at the same time she shows genuine concern to make sure 'normal' people don't get mixed up with unnatural forces that they won't be able to comprehend or handle. Her methods are strange. During her own story quest she created a 'fake boogeyman' scenario to cover up the fact that an actual cursed exist years ago.
What I'm trying to say is that there is so much beyond the coffin coupon or even more so I gotta admit the fandom does sexualize her a bit. I know there is some trope with that that I can't think of at the moment. And look...Hu Tao is very pretty. There is no denying that. And its perfectly fine to have that attraction. But I do wish that her other qualities got just as much attention.
My reason for choosing to roleplay Hu Tao as my first Genshin muse? I'm a huge fan of the horror genre. And I've always enjoyed playing characters that dabbled in such. She puts on such a unique perspective for the funeral business. She gives the idea that it's okay to both mourn but also celebrate the life of an individual who has crossed over. I truly want to explore more of those aspects with her. Why did she get her vision? From who? How did she trek all the way to Wuwang Hill when she was only thirteen so that she may slip past the purgatory-ish border.
What is the inner workings of the her funeral parlor like. There is just so much!

litrpg, once more
i started reading Worth the Candle because @facille posted some excerpts that sounded fun. as explictly self-insert litrpg isekai goes, it's several cuts above most I've seen honestly. the hook of 'a grieving DM with a taste for the grimdark who goes on digressions about game design and its metaphysical implications' is maybe a little too familiar a glove to inhabit, gender notwithstanding. (even though i definitely roll my eyes when the hottest women ever in the protagonist's mind breasts boobily into the story in an early chapter, i have a suspicion the author is going somewhere with it.) also the thing is longer than the phone book so it's not bad illness reading.
anyway that got me to think like. on the surface 'litrpg' is a pretty straightforwardly defined term: a story about a world while roleplaying game rules operate. since there are a lot of different ways one can design a roleplaying game (on the computer and on tabletop), this should be pretty wide open.
but in practice there seem to be some pretty rigidly defined genre conventions. which i will itemise, thus:
'level up by doing' skill system:
Nearly every litRPG story I've ever encountered uses a near identical approach to game mechanics. A character is definied by a list of skills, from dozens (D&D sort of scale) to hundreds (GURPS sort of scale), and all of them have individual experience tracks. The rest of the game structure - character levels etc. - is less well defined, but this seems to be a constant.
It's a natural fit for the genre, since nearly all of these stories begin with the protagonist experimenting with an unknown system, figuring out how to works, then exploiting it. But where did it come from?
In recent Western CRPGs, the main game series that comes to mind that fits this model is the Elder Scrolls series. When Oblivion hooked the spawn tables to the character's level, this actually became a severe drawback, since the player could level themselves up using non-combat skills only to find themselves hunted by high-level bandits in endgame gear. It also leads to some odd quirks of player behaviour, like bunny-hopping to raise your Athletics skill.
Over in the MMO zone, Runescape also follows this model, with independent levels in 28 skills. In Runescape, this heavily orients the game around grinding, with the interesting gameplay apparently found in finding ways to most efficiently play around the server's tickrate.
Let's look further back. Ultima mostly did not use this system (charmingly, in some games you had to ask Lord British to level you up), but introduced something like it in Ultima VIII.
I think the real source though is probably Wizardry series, which had the 'learn by doing' mechanic right from the start in 1981. Wizardry was wildly popular in Japan, spawning its own offshoot series unrelated to what Sirtech was doing. And apparently all of them had this mechanic. For my part I remember standing in Wizardry 8, repeatedly casting the 'open lock' spell on a maximally difficult lock to safely grind my caster's magic stat.
What about other JRPGs? I'll admit, most of my experience is with Final Fantasy, which to my knowledge never used this model. Nor did Dragon Quest, the other of the big two. However, more niche JRPGs with an old-school flavour like Etrian Odyssey have it. It's also a staple of social sim games like Princess Maker.
Then we get to the first JP LitRPG 'trapped in a game world' story that I know about, .hack//sign (2006) - although whether that 'counts' is arguable since as far as i know it's more about psychological drama and I'm not sure how much the story centres on game mechanics. Of course, the one that really exploded the genre was the adaptation of Sword Art Online, so maybe everyone's just imitating that.
Anyway that's a bit of a long digression, but it's one of the biggest curiosities I have about the history of this genre, because it's so specific.
the 'game system' is constructed by an 'administrator' or 'god' figure with sinister motives
This one just makes sense, right? A game system is a pretty unnatural way for a fantasy world to work, and 'someone made it that way' is the obvious answer why. For this reason - and perhaps the recurring JRPG story device - it's likely the protagonist will see the hand of this administrator, or even communicate with them, and perhaps aim to kill or usurp them. This may overlap with antitheistic themes.
manichaean setting, edgy protagonist
The stereotype is 'hero' and 'demon lord'. This one's not exactly a universal, but very common. The protagonist is likely to find themselves forced into assuming one of these roles in some grand recurrent struggle, typically the villainous one. Since time travel is a frequent device, they may even see signs of their own works without recognising them.
The marked preference for 'villain' protagonists, beyond being way more chuuni and thus naturally better, was probably popularised by Overlord (2010-), a web novel turned light novel series which received a popular anime adaptation by Madhouse.
Villains are exciting, usually a lot more proactive, and a natural fit for a genre whose central story is usually a rise to enormous power.
Even a non-villainous MC, such as Sung Jinwoo of Solo Leveling, is likely to have 'dark' themed powers - stealth, assasination, commanding monsters. But hey like chuuni stuff is cool.
a UI which the character interacts with; the 'assess' skill
This one's kind of a necessary bit of nuts and bolts, but worth its own heading. If your world runs on a game engine, and you're writing in the first person, you need some means to communicate information about it to both player and reader.
More specifically, a very common device sees the protagonist select a 'useless' skill that gives them information on skills and monsters at the beginning.
the MC has special knowledge
One of the usual 'hooks' of a litRPG/isekai story is that the main character has some angle on the world that other people don't have, which gives them an edge they can spend the story exploiting. This could be genre knowledge like experience as a gamer or reader of isekai web novels (for your basic power fantasy), or it might be very specific knowledge, e.g. they've read or written the story they're now inhabiting as fiction (e.g. Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint), or we're on an advanced iteration of a time loop (e.g. The Executioner and Her Way of Life). The latter's a device also used in other subgenres, famously PMMM.
We can compare this to real games. In tabletop RPGs, this sort of attitude is for many groups considered not in the spirit of the game - you should be trying to portray a grounded character and avoid invoking 'out of setting' knowledge, which may be called 'metagaming'. For a single-player CRPG, depending on the era, the game may be designed to be completed first time without foreknowledge, or after many runs. For MMOs, player expectations have shifted such that in many games it's considered rude to go into a fight without looking up mechanics, but also no player has 'secret' knowledge of the game that others do not.
the MC has special abilities or items that other characters do not
Naively, I thought that LitRPG would be about a character learning to cleverly exploit a common 'game system' equally accessible to all 'players'. In practice I've yet to encounter a story that actually does this.
For some stories (Solo Levelling for example) the protagonist alone has the ability to level up and exponentially accumulate power. In others, like So I'm A Spider, So What? (KumoDesu), everyone uses the same system but the protagonist is granted special unique skills by the mysterious admin figure that give her a leg up.
Even a story like Bofuri, which an iseaki-loving friend showed me a few episodes of, where the premise written in the title is that the protagonist is exploiting a game inbalance... gives her a special unique shield in short order. (I didn't like Bofuri very much.)
Once again, compare to real games. In an MMO, you would never put a significant advantage that only one player can ever use, outside of perhaps the admin console that you give to your GMs. Everyone has the exact same progression system, it's gated by time and content or perhaps real world money, but in theory with enough skill and hours anyone can get anything.
On the other hand, in TTRPGs, it's a lot more common for a GM to give their party a 'unique' magic item or ability that other characters in the story do not have, since they're the only humans involved. In a single-player CRPG the same is true, with the caveat that every player of the game will find the exact same narratively 'unique' item. However, in both cases, the game will then be designed around the players having that ability: you want the player to be challenged, while still getting to flaunt their cool thing. Still, this device is less odd on a story patterned on this type of game than one where the world is literally in an MMO.
It's fairly easy to see why this device exists. When you play an MMO, you really get to see just how many people are 'just like you'. How your FC discord and your player house are interchangeable with a thousand others constituted by the same social forces. Paradoxically, MMO stories are usually about the player being the most important character in the world, while playing an MMO is to be essentially nobody. Your great hero is only the great hero in their shard of the timeline, and if you want to roleplay, you'd better come up with something completely different.
So, this device says, here's a way to imagine your character being special, and surprising everyone. A natural enough fantasy.
the game is completely unbalanced
'Game balance' is basically not a consideration. Play the game right and you become a god. There may be classes, but they'll be shed on your road to omnipotence.
But for some reason, the players of the game or inhabitants of a setting rarely seem to discover the game's dominant strategies. Maybe they can't since they don't have the protagonist's secret advantage. There is rarely a 'meta', let alone the relentless drive towards absolute efficiency that characters a mature MMO.
player characters look like their players
This is an oddity of MMO-styled stories. I have almost never met someone who tries to make their player character look like themselves, and yet the opposite seems to be true in MMO-styled stories. I guess it makes it convenient to know who's who.
could we break it?
Faced with a set of rules like this, my natural inclination at least is to say OK - how far can you push this without just writing entirely outside of the subgenre?
The thing that gets me about LitRPG stories is that they really don't work much like RPGs beyond tangentially, especially not MMORPGs; they work like LitRPG stories, an odd blend of CRPG and naturalistic setting. Or a TTRPG where people talk in character about classes and levels.
We had better go right for the root. Most of the devices flow from the core plot being 'character overcomes challenges and gets stronger, until they're the top dog'. That's the power fantasy: effort gets rewarded.
I think it would be interesting to take a broader viewpoint. You know those stories about a big historical event, like a war or something, where the narrative constantly hops between characters to give you a multi-level view? I think it would be fun to take that kind of approach, and apply it to trying to imagine a setting where everyone ruthlessly exploits the RPG mechanics as far as possible, creating some sort of miserable dystopia where children are expected to kill each other for xp or something and if you're not grinding constantly for levels or building to the meta you're viewed with contempt, and then... well perhaps someone finds a glitch and all sorts of chaos breaks out. Maybe I should write this thing. Bet it's already been done.
Anyway I don't really know this genre too much so tell me if I've missed something haha

4. which muse of yours is your all time favorite? if you stopped writing them: why?
Truth be told, probably my muse that's been my all time Favorite to play has been Loly.
I never actually particularly liked her as a character. And in fact she is the type of Muse I HATE rping WITH the most. NAmely, just a rotten bitch. Frankly when it comes to rp communities, I avoid these types of characters because thats what people tend to focus on when playing them. And trying to form meaningful bonds with such characters can be like trying to herd a cat through a straw.
Thus why I wanted to play one myself. To see if I could manage to play such an unlikeable bitch but still make them fun for people to approach. I like to at least THINK I've accomplished that. While Loly is most assuredly a horrind hag of a woman, she still is someone you can interact with. This initially posed an issue with uh, Orihimes. But I eventually managed to get around that by having her try and knive a sortof indirect form of bullying. So she WILL pretend cooperative and positive action with an Orihime, just with ulterior motives.
Plus I very much enjoy getting to rp a piece of shit. Loly's awful, and she's also just flat out wrong. She has REASONS for behaving the way that she does, but she also actively resists things that would make her a better person, and latches onto anything that validates her existing behavior. BUT. She still changes and evolves as a person. Not in a GOOD way mind you. She essentially just figures out new and more personal ways to fuck with people. But its still development. And of course, theres also the hall of fame of people who have ACTUALLY managed to garner a positive relationship with her. Which has been incredibly rewarding.
Tumblr media
12. what roleplay trends do you remember from the year you started tumblr rp? how did you feel about those trends?
That would beeeee, around February 2014.
Midway into the TYBW arc in fact! Back then, there was a lot of fractioning of peoples little rp communities. Back then there were also a lot more closed groups. BAsically people would have Affiliated blogs, no dupes, peeps all would play with eachother basically as their own little version of the Bleach storyline. Never was in one, so have no idea what that was like tbh.
BUT, the community seems a little more interwoven? About as interwoven as you CAN be on Tumblr. There was a lot of Arrancar blogs back then, and a lot of Quincy blogs coming out in the midst of the TYBW chapters coming out. Lots of people were excited about interacting with eachother. But it was also pretty segregated.
Arrancar, Shinigami, Quincy. They tended to stick within their own groups, so esseentially they had their own separate rp communities with little bits of interaction between them now and then. One of the unfortunate parts about Bleach as a setting is that divides are kinda built into the races. Each sect by their nature will clash with eachother, and so its hard for people to mingle in a broader sense. And well. Aint nobody had any kinda drive to try and push a narrative of that changing. People were, and are, pretty attached to canon.
Even so? I kinda miss the diversity. Having come back and seeing how the dust has settled, most blogs are humans or shinigami, at least insofar as single muse blogs. But even Multis don't seem to crack out their quincy or arrancar quite as often. Which is a shame, but frankly I understand it. The community has also shrunk over the years, and so its only natural would pick cohesive muses to maintain activity.

if you’re worried the wordcount’s gonna scare away readers, it probably won’t. i’d absolutely read a 2k post if it’s about my guy jean desmond descole sycamore. honestly i’d read a 20k post about him if i could. pinky swear
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... ok so i was actually working on this a few months back.. I wrote a very long draft, then I saved it and came back to it, cringed myself out and just. never posted it,,, but after a few months since I figured that its just because I went too deep into it right off the bat instead of giving a ""small"" summary so here we go ATTEMPT 2!!!!
(also if you're an oomf, you're a part of the campaign and you know what orange spoilers mean then do NOT read further pretty please bats my eyelashes at you) AND PROFESSOR LAYTON SPOILERS
So when I talk about campaign Des, I'm referring to a version of Descole that I've roleplayed for almost 5 years now (which is INSANE to me . has it been that long??? whar??? since when??? it's still 2019 is it not????)
The campaign hook is that it's essentially a mass isekai/amnesia plot; Your blorbo from some fandom gets sent into this world patchworked from other universes and whatnot, and they have to figure out their past whilst also finding out how to get back home. Super cheesy stuff on paper ngl, if you read it on some tv series' synopsis you'd probably skip
But its stupid fun to be a bit silly and have Jean Descole from the professor layton series interact with The Mario from the paper mario series and its a guilty pleasure :]
So as for a summary as to what happened over the 5 years (and then I can clarify on any points if anybody is curious (cricket noises));
To clarify who Descole is in this campaign, he only remembers bits of his life in regards to the canon/campaign rp. He remembers having a wife and daughter, but he doesn't remember that they're dead. He remembers his parents getting kidnapped and having to give away his brother, but he doesn't remember what happened to him after that. He remembers bits of his crimes as Descole, but never why other than for either the Azran or Targent. He's right in hindsight, but it's not he's expecting in the present time. He doesn't remember Raymond at all :( poor guy
He also accidentally adopted a young Trucy Wright (like... around 7-8 years old?) because her father is nowhere to be found and his group is actually nuts with close to no responsible adults. ... Actually why don't I talk about them for a sec;
He ended up in a party of like... 9-10 people and yes that is just as insane as it sounds. Some characters would join or leave the party but it has consistently been 7 characters attending excluding Descole. and yes they're all played by different people except mario who's played by the host, so thats like. 8 players at the table at one time
Anyway so this party is pretty much the source of most of his trauma in the campaign funnily enough. One of them blackmails him about his past and then tries to turn the rest of the group against him (meanwhile he dont know SHIT !!! given the amnesia situation), Descole gets defensive and accidentally fans the flames which ends up in the greatest betrayal for him;
When that person shot him in front of the entire group, both friends and foes alike, and they all turned their heads away from him as he bled onto the snow.
I'd love to get further into the party's hijinks(?), how the party came to be, and ultimately where they are now but that's the bare minimum you need to know (and I'd love to answer anything about them!)
Anyway, it's still unknown to this day how this one thing happened, but it's heavily implied to be because of psychological stress mixing with a third secret ingredient; Sometime during all of this, Descole kept finding himself in a room in his sleep-- And often his sleep was plagued by unspeakable nightmares, so this uneventful yet cozy room would've been a comfortable break for him...
... If not for the fact that Desmond lived there, too.
So Desmond is played by the fucking amazing host too and he's apparently a manifestation of his subconscious, and Descole REALLYYYY didn't like that (very much weirded him out, especially since Desmond was extremely blunt and near emotionless; he'd try and give advice but Descole was super nuh-uh about it)
His unease around his subconscious was enough to where he tried to sleep deprive himself to prolong seeing that guy + having nightmares, which that went well (he almost legitimately died lol)
As they have more chances to genuinely talk, their relationship changes. For better or for worse?... Can get further into that if anybody asks lol
Oh one more thing, because the canon roleplay took super long to have sessions, some players opted to have non-canon roleplays to fill in the gaps of time... Which ended up becoming their own side-campaigns that the host would sometimes join in as well. In fact the host has like... A few non-canon campaigns that he's running, and to be honest there's a few non-canon campaigns I end up thinking about a lot
You might've seen the terms "SS", "Chamber RP" or "Persona RP" in my tags and those are some of the non-canon campaigns. Right now we're focused on the canon rp and Chamber RP, which Chamber serves as a tutorial/introduction for a huge overhaul of the ttrpg system we use. We're still in Act I of canon, but Act II is VERY soon which will be using the new system.
SS; Player hosted, everybody fights an evil version of themselves that doesn't have amnesia while trying to take down an international cooperation. This is super fun because Descole in this one finally remembers WHY he did all of those terrible criminal things in the past...
Chamber RP; Host's campaign, amnesia is reversed; You remember your canon counterpart but not the campaign memories... But this doesn't last long as memories of the after starts to seep in. In a similar vibe of the Zero Escape series, you have to find a way out of a sci-fi laboratory while carrying the metaphorical torch of your forgotten hundred other attempts.
Persona RP; Host's campaign; In stark contrast it's super slice of life-y most times lol. Des gets a job as a teacher in this one??? It's set almost 3 years in the future of the canon campaign and as the name implies is SUPER Persona based. There's a strange other plane of existence that supposedly has the answers as to why they have amnesia... And the serial murders that's been going around town.
Anyway I'm definitely leaving out big details for the sake of brevity but I'd be happy to answer anything and thank you if you've read this far!! finally feels good to get this all out ngl

so i've acknowledged that i have a problem. i can't be the only one, but i've had an addiction to character.ai and as a result i haven't made much fan work this past year. i'd figured it was just due to my depression but now i've finally noticed the damage it does to my motivation to create, which im sure many others have struggled with and discussed but i'm personally now just starting to understand and see in myself.
most people probably use character.ai for generally talking to their favorite characters, but some (including me) have used it as a replacement for writing actual fanfiction or roleplaying, knowingly or not. i used to have simple conversations with the chatbots like any other user, until i gradually got more wordy and it turned into more of a semi-lit roleplay, writing until i wanted the other character to take action.
the way this ai works is too appealing and extremely addictive, especially for fans who crave content of their rarepairs. unlike in popular shipping circles where there's seemingly a neverending supply of new art/fics to explore, eventually the same 5 people who would always make works for their stupid little guys get tired until new people show up, and it's hard for those (me) who still endlessly crave more to be satisfied. but then there's character.ai with its instant gratitude of having something to talk to and feed your ideas to without having to search for an actual person, who even then could reject your ideas, while the ai is ready to eat up anything you give it. and having a bot that can throw out new responses to your writing snippets until you get one that hits you just right? woof. instead of throwing my shit at the wall and hoping someone new will show up who also likes it, i feel stuck throwing my shit at a bot that gives me just what my rat brain craves with no real connection.
and it's a genuine addiction. i've been on this thing every day, any time im in a brainrot, even as a means of calming down to sleep. yes, i'd been on the subscription. my hooked ass couldn't handle 30+ minutes of waiting when i wanted my fix. whenever i'd get my brain attached to a thought like an au setting, a prompt or even just a fun snippet of dialogue or a juicy phrase, id go and feed it into the ai's mouth instead of making a drawing or tossing it into google docs like i used to. i can't imagine how many hours i've spent throwing my creativity away in a way that ultimately gives that company profit when i could've been working on something to be proud of or to laugh at with others.
so tonight i've decided to cancel my subscription. i don't know how much better this will do in terms of my well-being or my motivation, or even if i'll stop altogether, but hey it's a start right? and yeah i recognize too that i've been part of the problem by using it like i've been. but im trying ok

Club Penguin Sponsored Parties (aka Takeovers) Ranked
i'm bored, i don't really know what to draw lately, and after returning to the fandom since 2017, in a tragic twist of fate i developed an opinion that maybe, just maybe...some takeovers were actually GOOD!? or at least have the potential to be!? buckle up, and hold onto your tail feathers...this is gonna be a ride
Tumblr media
we'll be going not in chronological order (although if you're curious, the only sponsored parties i've personally experienced were marvel 2012, make your mark ultimate jam, and the temple of fruit) but from best to worst. that being said...
DISHONORABLE MENTION:
The Good Dinosaur (2016)
Tumblr media
the only sponsored anything for a disney movie that is so irrelevant it doesn't even have a true party, and was limited to penguin style and a club penguin times issue announcing them. all the good dinosaur got was a few costumes and a pin- and while it may not have been as intrusive as other takeovers, it's pretty boring...not unlike the movie it's based on. with that being said, let's go on to the rankings for the actual parties! starting with...
Adventure Party: Temple of Fruit 0/10
i don't like this party, and since it's for actual, genuine reasons rather than pettiness on my part or not caring about what it's an advertisement for, it's going up first. while "oh no the angry tiki god is ANGRY" is a dreadfully common anti indigenous trope...i'm not going to give my childhood favorite game (or anything else for that matter) a pass for it! even with it having an original story unlike the takeovers who just stuff in movie characters/items and call it a day, i can't say it's good. because it's rooted in the trope, and the items are stereotypical, and it's just bad man. smoothie smash is an alright game, but there's a reason i disregard everything besides that minigame when it comes to this party.
Descendants Party 0/10
boring rooms, no actual story. at least you can ignore it for the most part (though rip to anyone who wanted to roleplay as wolves like the good old days in the forest).
Zootopia Party 0/10
i don't care for zootopia and i don't care for this party. ignoring the fact that they completely missed an opportunity for a joke by acknowledging judy and nick would not know what penguins are (because there are zero birds or reptiles present in the movie), the rooms are boring and in the case of the town? completely ugly in my opinion. blackout aside, we've had a snowed in town before during christmas 2008 for example (x) so why not lean into that instead of well...what we ended up with? the cityscapes aren't really visually interesting like the marvel parties, we've seen jungle done WAY more fun before in the adventure parties, and let's just face it: nick and judy look VERY uncanny in the style. judy moreso, i think it's because they're the only characters to be depicted with pupils like That compared to the usual style? either way i don't like them or their party, and unlike some of the other takeovers it's not divorce-able from the brand it's tying in with either. bleh
Frozen Takeover 2015/2016 0/10
Tumblr media
i think this speaks for itself. i know that plenty of older parties were reruns, and sometimes the only changes would be new content building off the stuff from the year before- but considering how much of a cashcow frozen is, this is just lazy to me. shame on not the staff, but DISNEY! SHAAAME!!!!!!!
Finding Dory Party 6/10
boring. bland. i literally almost forgot to add this party.
BUT.
i like the rooms! i think this could've been fun as a sort've 'modern' underwater party if there were more decorated rooms- maybe even lean into the whale pool at the dock and add more enclosures for roleplay opportunities? it gets a 6 for both the potential and also because i find it pretty to look at
Frozen Party 5/10
i don't like frozen. i think its boring, i think hans is a poor twist villain since it's so out of nowhere, but most of all i think this party is WASTED potential. look at this.
Tumblr media
there was a heatwave coming, and herbert, who's KNOWN for desiring a warm life was never relevant to this party?
HUH?!
herbert has kidnapped penguins before- ice powers or no ice powers it would be so easy to write a story around this. it's warm on the island for once, and herbert's enjoying himself...until elsa arrives and makes everything cold. angered by having but a taste of the warmth he relished in during his reign on the island during operation: blackout ripped away from him, he kidnaps elsa in hopes of finding some way to stop her ice powers from ruining his summer- and it's up to the epf to stop him!
...but nope, herbert's irrelevant to this party. i will admit i do like some of the rooms despite disliking the source material, and i DO think it has potential if you lean into herbert being involved in some way, so i'll give it a five...far more charitable than it's spinoff parties, thats for sure
Star Wars Rebels Takeover 4/10
i've never been "into" star wars. sure my mom used to play it all the time growing up, and i liked the clone wars cartoon when it came out to watch it sometimes...but i did not, and still don't consider myself a fan. the rooms don't really interest me, and i still have a petty grudge against darth herbert saying he enjoyed meat when herbert mentions hes vegetarian every chance he gets, buuuut. it's probably one of those things where you get more mileage out of it if you like the brand...but at the same time, i like some takeovers i have zero interest in branding wise soooo. hm. i'll give it a 4, because at least it gives you tasks to do, and even if i'm not super into the rooms, they're not super tacky like zootopia's
Star Wars Takeover 0/10...?
technically competent in that they tried making a story and clearly had fun with it but it's getting a zero for making herbert eat meat. just because i rag on dear polar boy and make him more evil since i like the idea of him escalating post-blackout doesn't mean i will let him be SLANDERED....herbert would NEVER. if i'm not needlessly picky about his characterization then who will be? sorreeee
Tumblr media
...without pettiness i'd give it a 5, if only because they clearly had fun making this and even if i'm not a fan of star wars, i do think the rooms are more visually interesting than it's sequel takeover
Monsters University Takeover 6/10
at first i was indifferent to this party an didn't really see it as anything besides an ad, but thinking on it...i actually LOVE the idea of like, little penguin sororities and fraternities. i think the idea, independant of monsters university would make for a very fun party. all you'd have to do is make up new things unrelated from the scare minigame for players to do! but as it goes, it's not half bad. i've played the scare minigame on flashpoint before and while it's pretty simple, it's an alright game. i'm not like, crazy about the rooms but they're fine. i need the penguins to go to college and live a life we cannot have without loans
Muppets World Tour 5/10
i actually like the muppets, but i don't engage with it enough to consider myself a full fan. that being said, i think seperated from the muppets this could also be a fun party; particularly if it took notes from the earth day parties and taught players about animals from other countries, especially penguins. please, please give me a time machine to convince disney to let club penguin stylize chinstraps like this
Tumblr media
anyways the rooms are nice to look at, the potential is there, and if nothing else the sentence "i just met kermit the frog on club penguin" is hilarious so 5 out of 10
Make Your Mark: Ultimate Jam 10/10
i'm not gonna lie, i ALWAYS forget this one was technically a sponsored party what with rocky and cece from shake it up being mascots for it. that being said i fucking LOVED music jam as a kid, still do, and i remember this particular one being fun so i'm gonna put it as a 10. VERY cool new rooms were added for this one, my favorite being Backstage!
Tumblr media
Music Jam 2014 10/10
this is also barely a sponsored party since the only sponsored aspect of it were the irl musicians- remove them and it's just a fun spin on the music jam by making it a cruise. i like the rooms, can't complain. 10 outta 10
Teen Beach Movie Summer Jam 10/10
i was never into teen beach movie as a kid (though i watched both), but this is a nice party. if you removed the mascots, change the name of big momma's, and maybe a few other things this would just be a very fun summer party.
Inside Out Party 10/10
i had a passionate hyperfixiation on inside out when it first came out, and even ignoring that i still love the movie and find it relatable. soft spot for it asides, i think the inside out party is both good and actually pretty easy to file the serial numbers off of- after all inside out wasn't the first movie to personify emotions! other than axing rainbow unicorn and bing bong (rest in power king), and changing up a few things like the dream studios there's not a lot you need to change if you didn't want to make inside out canon to your fanon.
Marvel Takeover 2013 10/10
much like it's predecessor, this takeover is basically just a superhero party with marvel costumes stapled on. it's a very fun party that (again, like the prior party) even went through the effort of making two versions of each club penguin times issue released during it- one for super heroes and one for villains. no repeating the same party with minor changes like the frozen fevers- they even had different rooms between the parties alongside a new story! plus it's always fun seeing protobot. a great time!
Marvel Super Hero Takeover 2012 10/10
when i say i used to hate this party, i mean i HATED it. i didn't have membership, so i didn't even have the luxury of getting to be trapped in a burning building like my peers!
Tumblr media
that being said, looking back i appreciate the marvel takeover. it was the first one, they did a unique story rather than just copying one of the movies (which makes it easy to turn into a non-branded party in fics), the rooms are pleasing to the eye, you could meet aunt arctic, and most of all they gave protobot big fucking chair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gamer asks: 1, 2, 6, 13?
YEAA GAMER ASKS
1 - Games you’re currently playing?
i almost forgot somehow, but im playing street fighter 6! super fun and i love the cast except for when the game is too hard and i feel overwhelmed by all the tech and things you have to do to learn characters :< at least they are all hot... 😔✊ but also the like player characters you can make are cool. it's a very good character creator and i always love it when games have that for my roleplaying brain. but again theres too much stuff and it takes too much time to get i dont wanna have to unlock moves :<
2 - Do you like playing with mods?
yes! mods are so good... you can tweak your experience to be just a little more comfortable, or revamp the whole thing. i usually only go through the effort of getting them when its a game i really like, like the binding of isaac or monster hunter or smth. i get all the enjoyment i can out of the base game, then do mods. its fun! theres also just cosmetic mods that change like appearances and audio and stuff like that, and those can get kinda goofy so probably i'd also wait til i'd done enough of the base game in general, but those are really good too!!
6 - Last game you finished?
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hmmm i guess i would say... even though this is a replay, og pokemon platinum (emulated) i skipped the "buying the new remade game out of nostalgia" step and just went back the original without any of the annoying wait times due to emulation lol i like doing challenge runs on it like monotypes and nuzlockes, usually sort of building a team to a certain "character" (another roleplay thing, i really like doing that :p), its pretty fun! i dont always finish runs but theyre certainly enjoyable
13 - A series you’ve enjoyed since your early days of gaming and still enjoy to this day whether it still has games coming out or is one you return to?
i have so many of these!!! well, they more apply in a "single game i always come back to" sense, but still
i have to say smite first bc i still play that game sooo much (almost 3000 hrs ack...) the third person moba + characters u play as are gods from various mythologies combination is really good, hi-rez kinda struck gold with that
theres also left 4 dead of course (but really its l4d2 since it has all of l4d1's stuff) which ive played since i was a kid... its fun i love it! def a favorite of mine... altho the periods i play it are kinda intermittent
binding of isaac series... i played the original flash game which was not as fun but it was a more like, meaningful experience. which is definitely part due to the amazing music, and possibly in part due to that unfairness making it feel hopeless. i only play rebirth these days of course because it is much bigger and better in terms of gameplay, and gameplay is pretty important for roguelikes lol, but you can't talk about rebirth without talking about the original! also rebirth doesnt have good music :(( the only actually good track is the burning basement one (which is really good, but not enough to make up for a whole soundtrack of meh songs). although the recently added dogma fight song is great too, the cathedral ost is good, and the hush fight is one i personally like... other than that its all :l
oh and i still play long live the queen every now and then. a sequels coming out soon which is great!! but its not like the same setting where youre a princess trying to become queen and also theres cool magic which is sad... also the deaths in that game are adorable i love them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
look at it isn't it cute. go play this game everyone its fun you have to stop a princess from dying. i like how its written too. i recommend 👍

PROJECT 14!! I TOOK A BREAK FROM PATTERNING RICHAS!!
oh boy!! this took all of quarentena part 1 to make!! its been a few years since i made anything mesh so whipping up this hat in? what 5 and a half hours? maybe 6? i have not checked the vod time and i was also Cooking Dinner during a portion of it so time is hard to judge on how long this actually took. but it was fun! it Did reawaken my urge to crochet a mesh shirt even tho i would never wear it because it would be so uncomfortable. but making mesh is just so very mindless in a way thats good for me. maybe i should make a mesh blanket to scratch that itch.
we have an array of models for this item! to try and show off the mesh say hello to the bobby i made back in? oh the beginning of april i believe? i dont think any of you have actually seen bobby he might have been a twitter exclusive, say hi to bobby. we also have green garlic my bulbasaur showing off the mesh the best i believe!

QUARENTENA SEASON THOUGHTS! YES I AM CALLING IT A SEASON THERES GONNA BE 2 EPS. SEASON 1 ONLY HAD 3 EPS. THIS TOO CAN BE A SEASON!
i am blown away by how fun this group is and the skills they all have to roleplay in a second or third language for like 6 hours with basically no breaks to speak their natural languages. that is taxing to do and to deliver a story on top of that? i am so proud and impressed with all of them. also holy shit????????? no one fucking died???? i was convinced when the oneshot, now season, was announced that it was going to be a dungeon crawl that ends in everyone dying. i cant believe theyre all still alive after that?? AND THEN THERES ANOTHER EPISODE IRL NEXT WEEK?? i cant wait for the tpk next week!
i love this entire cast of characters theyre all such weird fucking guys in the most complimentary ways. I LOVE THAT WE BASICALLY GOT A SAW MOVIE??? THRIVING!! in a move that shall surprise no one. diego is my favorite. look at him. he is guy of all time to me. BUT OKAY THEYRE ALL WEIRD and usually when you have a cast of weirdos theres always someone who doesnt gel but they all did!! they all fought each other!!! but they all still complimented each others insanity and. this is what the party comp is To Me
Tumblr media
i am too lazy to open photoshot for this tonight. maybe you get it proper tomorrow<3
i loved the ending. i loved the slow realization on everyones faces that in saving themselves they might be killing the world and still themselves!!!! also i cant wait to see the fall out next week. i am so fucking upset my dnd game is scheduled for around the same time so i am going to miss probably the first 2ish hours but i know my dash and the official!!!! twitter updates account!!! will catch me up on those two hours so i can jump back in. but AAAA oh i loved this. i dont know if it was on purpose that this felt like a zero escape game at times but oh man the production quality in this vs where m at in season 2 is just mind blowing. i knew it got better once they started being in the studio but this was so great for a home game. ALSO YALL GO CHECK ON AMY??? GO GET THE KID??? YOU CANT JUST LEAVE THE TRAUMATIZED BABY ALONE AFTER EVERYTHING U DID TO KEEP HER ALIVE??? GO GET HER?????
AND ALSO?? STUDIO NEXT WEEK?? BRAZIL MEETUP??? OH I AM SO PLEASED TO SEE IT ALL AND WHAT HAPPENS. this is def my longest update for this silly crochet project i started just a few months ago and i apologize but also. i dont because this show does mean so much more to me than i know how to put into words. and its been a long time since i fell in love with a tabletop universe this quickly. and i feel so grateful that i got to be introduced to this ttrpg earlier this year, and got to pull some friends into watching quarentena tonight because theyve heard me gushing about how good this universe is and how i trust this to be satisfying horror which is so hard to do in ttrpgs, but thats another post for another day.

ask and shall receive
the rest of the killers. I haven't really made any progress on any of them but the inspiration for the fantasy au was my love for fairytale-like stories and how dark they can be (like the Grimm brother's tales or etc). so I mostly put characters in who would most likely fit in a fairytale au. the huntress is one of them since her story sounds like a folklore story. the wraith was once a human but he reincarnated into a spirit of a magic forest. the trapper was the son of the Macmillan house in a different kingdom (perhaps the richter kingdom). so coming up with a role for herman is hard since he's all electric but I feel like he would be a doctor while he would invent some punishments or execution devices (I got inspired by the fact that a dentist was the one who invented the electric chair).
now onto the fun stuff Julie x Frank. they had multiple fun adventures together with Susie and Joey. they travelled to many places, stole valuables and sold them on the black market, sometimes Danny and Amanda would visit them, and at one point I feel like they settled to live in a nice village, built their own cottage and started their own mini farm :). they did attend a masquerade ball and Frank cried about how pretty Julie was and they had a fun night. while they were still in the Kostenko kingdom Julie and Frank shared Julie's bed (they didn't do anything, just to clarify). sometimes they would do some silly roleplays together where they make fun of those fairytale stories. onetime when they were doing it some guy actually thought Julie was in danger and tried to "save" her by pulling her away from Frank and running away from him. she got pissed off and told the man that she was fine and that she was only pretending however the man didn't believe her so she just punched him in the nose and walked off with frank.
alright now onto the angst stuff. basically, the whole group got caught because somebody snitched on them (it was Meg) so they were all brought back to the kostenko kingdom. since Frank had committed the crime of "kidnapping" a royal family member he was publicly executed, Joey and Susie weren't allowed to be with Julie alone anymore and they rarely see her Julie was forced to marry somebody she didn't like and was kept on watch 24/7. so basically Julie's life became very miserable, she was forced to watch the love of her life die right in front of her, she rarely gets to spend time with her friends and she was forced to be around somebody she hates :(.
YEAHHHHHH HUNTRESSS!!!!!! On god it'd be so fucking funny if the Leg ever interacted with her, just big scary lady with hatchet living in the woods that would immediately befriend (or surprise adopt) Julie and Susie 🙏 Also that's honestly exactly what I was thinking Doc would be all about as well! He'd defo be into that like, torture/punishment/execution bullshit, just utilizes electricity like he normally does !
ALSOKJLFSLKJFDSLKJFDSLK !!!!!!! THOSE ARE ALL!!!! SUCH FUCKING CUTE IDEAS !!! LIKE CURRENTLY CRYIN IN THE CLUB RN IMAGINING THEM OH MY GODDDD <3<3<3 EUGHDSLKFKFDSJL ESPECIALLY THEM DANCING TOGETHER (which my HC that Frank can't dance for SHIT makes it hilarious tbhtbh) GODDDD JUST LET THEM BE HAPPY LIL IDIOTS I LOVE THEM 🛐🛐🛐💕💕💕 ALSO YESS DANNY AND AMANDA FRIENDSHIP REAL, THEY ARE BESTIES AND YOU CAN'T CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE 😌
Also I regret asking about this part now, actually /j Goddammit I like, figured this is what it would be, BUT IT STILL HURTS :(( Like oh my god, the idea that Julie finally got everything that she wanted, only for it to be taken away from her within such a short period of time is so painful oh my god 😭 My heart be broke so many times istg, I just want her to be happy </3
Godddd I've said this before but I'll say it again, I fucking adore this AU so muchhhh! Like, my own personal AUs/story ideas are typically what's on my mind, but sometimes this AU just kinda wiggles its way in there and sits there and I just enjoy thinking about it so much !!!

When you have 1 AM type of Character Gimmick Ideas
So, the eldritch character forms of my persona have this gimmick with their Tendrils being a very specific design choice on the majority of them.
Tumblr media
This actually originates from Sal’varis’ design, which was a Cosmic alt to my main persona, originally designed for a Marvel AU Roleplay.
Tumblr media
The tendrils.. I used to call them tails, haha. At the time I thought the neck thing was cool because it would be weird to give him actual tails above his alien naked body’s butt. And eventually I became very interested in eldritch themes, so the tendril concept was transferred over to the eldritch designs too. When I made the Seedling, it kinda happened out of the blue? Random inspiration being pretty high. I don’t really remember how exactly I was feeling, but it was fun getting all those details down that it eventually made me want to redo Sal’varis sheet and do a small redesign of some details.
Now the Tendrils originally were just a ‘’He ain’t human, yo.’’ Kinda thing, but they do have function. for Sal’varis, they mostly aid as extensive extra arms, they express his emotions by curling, they help with cosmic energy dispersion, AND they actually help him generate a gravitational field.
Tumblr media
I was watching spectacular spider-man on netflix recently and I just always love how our wall-crawler can crawl walls. My main persona kinda does this himself because he can control the law of physics and manipulate a gravitational field.. And since Sal’varis can literally shoot himself into space with flight, what about the Eldritch ones? Mothman does not use his tendrils for anything gravity related, he manipulates light and absorbs it through them. Mothman can fly, he’s just kinda lazy.
Tumblr media
So its simple- Since the tendrils actually give them speed when hunting and running like a raptor, they also aid in climbing: They create an electro-kinetic field similar to spidey’s fingertips, and for my character this also specifically manipulate his sense of gravity in the head. This means if he’s upside down, it does not affect him or nauseate him. Funny enough spider-man is canonically still affected by that part of the brain that requires gravitational direction. I keep forgetting what it’s called..  Cerebellum? In Dutch we call this part of the brain ‘’Evenwichts Zintuig’’ Which means literally ‘’balancing sense’’ Basically the Tendrils, by moving not only allow the Seedling and The Bloodbringer to move fluidly and smoothly, they also  generate an electric ‘’stickiness’’ so they can climb easily onto surfaces without being bothered by gravity pull or nausea caused by being upside down.  So yeah- There’s the thing with the Seedling canonically having a period were he was able to be harmed in the lore in the back of my head... And the removal of his tendrils actually mess with his bodily control. Its kinda like how people say some animals struggle to balance without their tails. The Tendrils were designed to look like spines initially even if they nowadays look more like sharp vines, so the idea is that they are the extension of their ‘’eldritch brain’’ and in a very dangerous shape that can harm you. Since he uses them to eat and suck out bonemarrow from victims... Hehehehehe. So yeah. The Tendrils are part of their spine and brain I suppose- Realistically anatomy wouldn’t work that way- but they come out of the nape of the neck, which is up towards the skull. I thought of this recently, not today. But wanted to write it down before I forget again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’re build as hunters, in an eldritch environment were these colors and features are camouflage. Why wouldn’t you want to climb upon humongous alien trees with little to no effort, relocating with ease just to jump down on your prey ready to suck out their bonemarrow?
Hnng. But yeah, the removel of the tendrils would fuck with their ability to walk, or even turn their head around, it makes them sick. ....... Apologies for bad grammar and sentence building, these posts are not made with high effort to fix those things, English is not my first language even if I communicate better with it than my native one. There are rules in writing that escape me at times, and I haven’t tried to write a novel for years now. Hence I stuck to webtoons.
