Can I have some headcanons of Lauriam having a small crush on Elrena? 👀💖 Thank you in advance!
You hit me right in the OTP mate!
He lowkey started having a crush on her back when they were keyblade wielders, though he didn’t really realize it at the time (Since his mind was almost completely occupied with looking for Strelitzia)
“Ah yes, I always feel excited when I see her. It must be because with her help, I’ll get closer to finding my sister!”
When they met again as Nobodies, he couldn’t remember her, but he immediately felt a sense of kinship with her. Like she was trustworthy, while he was very suspicious of the rest of the Organization
(Not having a Heart, sadly, tends to get in the way of romance. Had they stayed, well, alive long enough to regrow more of their Heart, they might’ve developed feelings for each other)
Once the whole business with Xehanort is finally taken care of, Lauriam goes to look for Elrena to see whether she’s already recompleted, too
And at first the reasons are a) check up on her since they’d worked together for so long, and b) ask if she again wants to help save Strelitzia
But then he sees her
And his heart skips a beat
And he finally realizes that he’s got a crush
(Congrats it only took you a couple millennia!)
Naturally, he does what any sensible person would do. And decides to ignore it because right now, he has more pressing concerns
Namely, Strelitzia. If all the Nobodies were able to come back, why not Strelitzia, too?
So, basically, he decides to figure that stuff out once he has his sister back. Lauriam is nothing if not goal-oriented.
(Elrena, who’s known him for a long, long time now, can pretty easily tell what’s up. But she also knows that talking to him about it now wouldn’t do anything, so she starts by helping him get his sister back)
So. Once Streli is safe and sound (Listen, this is my fantasy here, and I want her back!), it’s finally time for Lauriam to think about the whole crush thing
He’s not scared to tell her. They’ve pretty much been to hell and back together; their bond won’t break, even if Elrena doesn’t reciprocate Lauriam’s feelings
However, that still leaves the question of how he should tell her
In the end, he decides to give her a bouquet and tell her (Since Elrena is nowhere near as well-versed in flower meanings as Lauriam is)
Part of the bouquet are red tulips, as they stand for a declaration of love, and dandelions to symbolize how long they’ve been together (The mod has looked up more flower meanings, then realized they’re not good enough with colors to think of a bouquet that’d look nice; rest assured that it’s beautiful and deeply meaningful)
Elrena takes it and grins
“I don’t know much about flowers, but I’m guessing this means you love me?”
Lauriam nods and starts to answer
But before he can say a word, Elrena kisses him on the lips
When they seperate again, Elrena is still grinning and winks at him
“Any more questions?”

Post KH3 Headcanon
Headcanon Post
Tumblr media
// Here it is, finally. Expect there to be edits done to this post because I always end up thinking of something new/something I forgot to add.
Upon re-completion and the return of his heart, Marluxia/Lauriam has at last begun to remember his past life and self. Many of his memories are still “hazy on the details” and there is a lot he does not remember yet. It is his hope that over time as he lives his life and explores the memories returned to him, he will remember more. Regaining his memory is now one of his larger goals at present since he at last has his heart (that’s one mark off the checklist) . It was always one of his goals, but it is only now that he has made any sort of progress and he intends to make more- or try.
Rather than him remembering everything all at once and immediately, I’ve taken a more realistic approach to his amnesia. It is a slow process, and it is seen as ultimately impossible to completely remember every aspect of one’s pre-amnesia life.
However, as we know (thanks COM), even though he cannot remember them, the memories themselves are all there and they can never completely disappear. Which is why even as Marluxia, a lot of his past self’s traits still persisted/made themselves known subconsciously- I.E.  his manner of speaking, taking on a leadership role, his affinity for the keyblade...
((^--- *Interesting tidbit- there are 2 big types of Amnesia, the first being when someone cannot remember the past, and the second being when someone cannot make new memories. There was a study done on a man with the latter of the two; what researchers did was ask him an opinionated question and receive his answer. Due to his amnesia he would always forget ever being asked the question, but every time they asked it, his answer was always the same. Every time.))
(((As Union X continues on, I will be making headcanon changes to adjust of course, as there are a great many unknowns. BTW)))
Though he remembers his name, Lauriam, he does not choose to go by that name now, continuing to use the name Marluxia. Why? Firstly, everyone knows him as Marluxia and knows nothing of who he was as Lauriam, it is simpler to just continue going by Marluxia than to correct people or try to incite the change- and it is not something he considers important right now. Marluxia is the name he feels most familiar with and is most comfortable with. Secondly, he does not feel ready to take on that name, he doesn’t feel like Lauriam. He only recently remembered his name and has only just begun to remember things about his past life. He is not ready to call himself Lauriam yet, if he ever will be.
Marluxia essentially has two different lives and experiences melding together in his head at this point. He is in the process of remembering who he was, reflecting on who he is now, and questioning who he will be in the future.
Having a heart, his voice is now more emotive when he speaks-- there are lilts in his tone and the words he says. He speaks far less flatly.
Personality-wise, Marluxia exists as a fusion of Lauriam and Marluxia. Marluxia lacked empathy, but with a heart and memories, he now takes empathy into account where he did not before. He remembers feelings; being sad, hurt, angry, happy, and so on and empathizes with his heart, taking that empathy into consideration when making choices.
He cannot/will not simply 180 and revert back to his 15 year old self. He has grown too much since that time and through the life and experiences he lives through as Marluxia.
For example: Marluxia would have made a point of punishing/torturing/destroying Axel for his betrayal at Castle Oblivion and the destruction of all his goals. Now, this no longer feels so important to him. Does he dislike Axel because of it? Yes. Does he forgive Axel? No. If Axel had not intervened there is a possibility that Marluxia would have been successful in using Sora to aid him in overthrowing the Organization( knowing, of course, that Xemnas never cared to help his fellow Nobodies regain their hearts and wanted them as empty husks). With himself as Superior he could have directed the Organization toward their actual goal to study the heart and regain their hearts, and perhaps avoided becoming vessels used in Xehanort’s plot entirely. You never know.
Marluxia cares more about regaining his memories, his keyblade, avenging his sister’s murder, and perhaps bringing her back to life than he does destroying Axel for the past and his past obstruction of Marluxia’s goals. Again, it no longer feels so important to him.
About Strelitzia.
Marluxia remembers her being his little sister, remembers her name, remembers that one of the other Union Leaders-one of his supposed friends-murdered her and took her spot. Rather than having Marluxia still searching for Strelitzia like he is in Union X at exactly this moment, I have opted for a more angsty storyline in which Lauriam did eventually uncover the truth. Something happened when he was 16 that he cannot remember, and after that he was in the present time, 100+ years in the future. He was never able to pay the killer back for stealing her life, and this bothers him. He does not know what became of the killer (Blaine?), but it is likely that they were able to live out their lives, evading justice, evading him.
This is important right here: Marluxia does not know Strelitzia’s heart is in the Final World. How would/could he? That’s why Sora telling him where she is is such an important plot point. He doesn’t know she’s there.
He remembers he was a Union Leader and there were four others, his friends. He can remember their faces, but not their names. He remembers he had a Keyblade, was a Union Leader in fact, but cannot manage to summon it now. In accordance with his private manner, Marluxia does not seek out help with this issue/does not wish to make his business anyone else’s, because it’s not their business. The one person he MIGHT have considered approaching would be Sora, who just so happens to be missing. Marluxia is too proud to go to any of the Seven Lights for help and instead is determined to figure it out himself.
His third main goal now is Strelitzia. Finding a way to bring her back, and finding a way to get to her killer if possible. The latter being an ambitious and seemingly impossible task, but if he, Elrena and co are in the future there is a chance the killer might be too. He might also look into things with fellow amnesiac Luxord on the manner of time and different world lines, which a certain someone once mentioned and it stuck with him.
As for the task of returning Strelitzia, he is working to regain his keyblade (as I stated before) to aid him with such a task, thought possible due to the keyblade’s, and his own, unique powers. The life/death energy he commands. It is another very ambitious task, but another he is pursuing. He can create and take life in the form of plants and flowers through energy- living things- so why not try to expand his reach? It is more complicated as human beings are not like flowers and such- comprised of heart, body, and soul. Having been deeply involved with Vexen’s replica research, he knows that a body can be made (thank you Vexen Frankenstein), he will work toward providing a soul, but as we all know, a heart cannot be made. Not without memories like a replica’s hearts are made from, which isn’t a possibility. Where did her heart go? Where does a heart go? Was it destroyed? Is it gone forever?
Death is the total destruction of body and heart, so it seems impossible to bring her back, but something makes Marluxia determined anyhow. If he can get his keyblade, remember how to summon it, how to use it, learn its secrets, he may be able to do something. He believes in the possibility that her heart isn’t truly gone, that it is somewhere (perhaps Kingdom Hearts), which is what makes all of this probable to him.
Unbeknownst to him, we know that he’s right.
*He also remembers flashes of the Keyblade war. The Foretellers, though not which union he was in [conveniently ;) ] Elrena. Some childhood moments.
???The big 10 year gap is one of the biggest mysteries. Lauriam is 15-16. Marluxia is 25-26. Unless he was asleep, something had to happen during this time. Because I don’t think the Square writers will want to come up for anything during this long-ass time, I’m betting he was asleep or something. Luxu likwly knew they were sent off into the future/the events of Union X and was like, well, guess I’ll wait until the day they pop up again. Then they did. Ven went with Xehanort and he was like K, Subject X was found Ansem the Wise and he eventually yoinked her. Maybe he yoinked Lauriam and co. when they first showed up as 15 year olds too, and stuck them in some pods until he needed them. Then at the point Xemnas/Xehanort was like we need more vessels, Xigbar was like, hey, I know a few good vessels with strong enough hearts to retain their human forms as nobodies, and then they were turned into Nobodies and finally woke up.

*chugs drink and slams hand on table* I never thought I’d go to such a crazy extent, but I got sick of hearing people talk about Blaine in a negative light, so I guess I’m gonna have to pour my whole soul into this, and this might as well be my final big post before I disappear into the void.
I kinda got tired of people saying we know nothing about Blaine, which is kinda true to some extent. However, if you dig around for details and tiny actions, there might be small hints pointing at what might’ve happened. AKA I got a bit carried away about Blaine, since y’all keep pointing out his actions are shady and evil, so I’ll do the exact opposite and attempt to fill in the gaps (or widen them, I dunno. I’ve just been craving to analyze something for ages.).
Anyways this is gonna be kinda long (and a bit repetitive, cuz this is speculation mixed in with my rambling, featuring analysis at it’s finest) and really up to how you interpret his words/actions/how you exactly look at these translations, so all of this is just a very thin stretch (ready to snap or break at a moment’s notice). Who knows, I might be off the mark completely and he may be a villain after all (in which then you can all stab me if you want), but I wanted to at least provide this before my (possible) hiatus day:
()()()
Possible Backstory/Background/Personality Traits/Whatever Else Falls into this Category:
By the look of it, Blaine is well-educated and loves his studies (most likely in the science department if the Dream Eaters are anything to go by, along with his love for books). The name Brain also means ‘noble/son of the judge’ possibly hinting at a high and wealthy status as well. His speech patterns are laid-back and casual, which kinda contradicts his name meaning, but he can also be quite serious and observant (as seen with his explanation about the Player character linking to Strelitzia somehow, his comparison of Skuld to Lady Ava, thoughtfully choosing the Spirits as their first task to help them out in the long run, and figuring out Ephemera as the leader type) if he desires to. His impatience (with Lauriam's arrival and the meeting dragging on) could prove that he's not used to waiting around for things either, though it’s minor and nothing too overboard.
Now this is where the lines start blurring, since the details are kinda all over the place. When Ephemera, Skuld, and Ven are all talking about having friends, Blaine interrupts with, "Friends. Cool." I'm still not sure what the intention was, but he had a smile on his face when saying this, but he never brings up the topic of “friends” ever again. He also reacted quite positively to Ephemera’s teasing aimed at Skuld (while Ven didn’t react at all), which could indicate this type of friendship is familiar to him, but his smile quickly turned into a frown when the topic of lying popped into play. It's a reach for sure, but I don't think Blaine had a good relationship with his friends in the very end. To prove this, Blaine's trust issue with Ava stems off of his morals of honesty, which his friends might've lacked based off his reaction and harsh choice of words. He also seems to avoid a lot of contact with the other leaders, instead focusing on his books and purposely isolating himself as the outsider.
Y'know...maybe Blaine can recognize the leader-spirit in Ephemera because he used to be a leader of something himself (especially judging by how he picked out their first task by himself). Maybe a leader of a party/his friend group? A handful of his personality traits seems suited to such position, such as how blunt he can be, his honesty, his observative behavior, his support (”I trust you’ll lead us down the right path.” -to Ephemera), and quick-decision making backed up with reasonable evidence. Adding onto this, his blunt speech and his quick decision-making might indicate that he's used to serious discussions, and after watching the custcenes a few times, Blaine never seems to argue back at the others’ decisions. He disagrees with the others often, yes, but a heated argument never occurs, since Blaine either decides to go along and accept that he’s not gonna get his way (though unhappy) or the others outnumber him/he gets what he wants. Not once have we seen him angry (I mean maybe we have? It’s kinda really hard to tell with the lack of eyes. He just sorta opens his mouth when he’s upset, but the same sprite is also used when he’s surprised, so??? Let my boy get more original expressive sprites please???). Whatever led to the downfall of his group, might be linked to this (or Blaine’s just a really nice guy. Or both. Both work too), so a heavy verbal argument may have been the key.
This could be why Blaine seems to be pushing Ephemera to the position of their leader, since Blaine regrets (to a certain degree) whatever he couldn't accomplish and wants to guide him on the right path to prevent a similar downfall or the same mistakes he made.
Though it's odd that Blaine was alright with PvP, since it's "just a competition", so I assume there's a competitive nature to him as well, and he received no relative trauma to Keyblade wielders clashing with each other. He also seems to respects privacy to a certain degree (based on his "let's not pry" about Lauriam) and some of his members may have turned to him for comfort, if his friendly brother-like behavior is anything to go by. (No seriously, who says, “You guys are going on a scavenger hunt,” if they’re an incredibly serious person??? Pfft...)
Quick Summary: Anyways, to throw this out there and sum it up, I believe Blaine may have once been a leader of a (hard)core party. His teasing nature shows that he did once have close friends to bond with, but things went downhill, based on his more serious side of his personality and fair distance from the others. The downfall of his leadership/party probably doesn't relate to Keyblade wielders turning their blade against each other, but maybe something more verbally and misunderstandings stacking on top of each other (with lying being involved somehow), where they say things they can't take back. Though based on his position of becoming a Dandelion, I’m assuming the party disbanded early on, since most people became Lux-thirsty once the war came around. Due to his lack of reaction to PvP, I assume he never saw Keyblade wielders fight for Lux in Daybreak Town often, so he must’ve just spending his days inside and reading/running experiments.
()()()
So why are Blaine’s eyes hidden from view on his sprite, but present clearly on his official artwork? After pondering for a bit, I decided to dig in a little deeper to see what I can find. Some sources I found stated that gray eyes could symbolize in for “leadership”, so that could squeeze in for above. On the other hand, the covering of his eyes could symbolize a secret he’s hiding from the other leaders. Note that Blaine has spoken nothing of his personal life, unlike the others. Ven says he’s always been a loner, Lauriam talks about his sister and his relationship with her, Skuld states she and Ephemera were once in the same party. Why is this such a big deal exactly??? There seems to be a connection to having a point where each leader seemed to be alone:
Ephemera: Was the one who left (both Skuld and Player).
Skuld: Was the one who got left behind (by Ephemera).
Ven: Was always alone, so left since the beginning.
Blaine: ???
Lauriam: ??? (I don’t want to jump to conclusions just yet, but I’m going to say...maybe he was the one got left behind...?)
Strelitzia: Had friends, but they constantly left and kept being replaced. Based off of what Elrena says, it seems like she sorta isolated herself, so maybe was the one who left?
Also, Skuld and Strelitzia both seem to have friends who are alive, at least by canon confirmation. After all, Skuld talked about her Dandelion friends a few times, right before she left the Player in KH X. Meanwhile, Strelitzia says things about her friends during her introduction.
Anyways, if this is anything to go by Blaine could fall into one of these categories (the one who left or the one who was left), but it’s kinda difficult to tell since Ven throws things off. Either that, or nothing bad ever happened to his friends, so maybe he never had a lonely period in his life.

*puts up glasses* So what was all the background dump about? Well, honestly, I just wanted to ramble about Blaine, but *shoves that aside* we’re also here to discuss his innocence and why I think Blaine wouldn’t have the heart to kill Strelitzia:
(Er...skip this “point”, or at least just read what I highlighted in bold and move on. This isn’t even a point, I just got pissed off of the lack of evidence and love for my boy.) Blaine being “just plain old suspicious” is an excuse way too tired out for everyone’s sake. This is why I tried to fill in some gaps with the background details above as well to at least provide some insight into his actions/words. None of his character traits can be seen as evil exactly. Honestly, he portrays a type of kid that’s tired out and wants nothing more but to mind his own personal matters. The gaps I filled in seem like stretches, I understand that, but we all thought the same for Lauriam as well when he was first ushered on stage. Blaine’s been one of our main suspects for ages and his introduction was barely even brushed upon by the fandom when the story update launched. (On a personal note, I think I stumbled upon maybe 3 or 4 pieces of fanart of him on launch day??? I got interested in him to some extent, but my love for him that y’all see today, just came crashing down naturally over time) I saw more people bashing him, cuz “fucking damn it, it’s another dude, but he’s a cowboy” was all that stretched on for miles. Either that or “is that Ienzo cosplaying Ardyn???”. Those were dark times...very dark times indeed. *cough* Back on track, anyways Blaine’s been quite the unnoticed character compared to the other leaders (especially when compared to the other three that came after him), so why make him the killer when he never hit off for the JP and NA fanbase? Nomura heavily values his twists, especially with KHUX, so there’d be nothing of interest if the murderer was just a generic evil-looking cowboy that’s not even that popular with the fans in the first place. Blaine’s also a lot less developed than the other leaders, since he was unfortunately shoved to the side for the sake of filler right after he joined the cast. To a casual (yet devoted, based on how far they shoved aside filler hell) player, Blaine’s just a random kiddo that has no development, motives, and personality (unless you’re highly bored and decide to go on a analysis spree like I am right now). In all honesty, Nomura seems to be pushing us to believe Blaine did it, since he refuses to give Blaine the development he so desperately needs, to give him the ominous and sketchy vibes to make him an easy culprit.
I’m aware that the latest story update shows Blaine as a smart-ass, seeing how he was able to connect Strelitzia and “the person she’s interested in”’s supposed fate so easily. This puts the spotlight of suspicion on him, correct? Well, I’ve read my fair share of speculation posts for the past few days and everyone just naturally assumes it’s Gula that did the dirty work. I already posted an ask earlier on this topic and I’m not in the proper position to argue such a point all day, but I also don’t think Blaine could possibly be Gula either, or that Gula committed the murder himself.
*plops onto chair* So while I clean off Blaine’s plate, I’ll clean off Gula’s too...so I realize that y’all naturally assume it’s him due to the rather convenient timing and his ominous quote after defeating him in battle. If you do believe in this theory, may I ask you: “Then why didn’t Gula attack Skuld and/or Player (evidence is provided below)? Also, how would you explain the sudden change in sprite?” If you pause right before Gula steps outta the shadows to fully reveal himself, we have his blacked-out silhouette, which heavily differs from ‘Darkness’ + the sprite we saw at the warehouse when Strelitzia was killed. I also doubt that Gula would change outta his robes at that exact moment, minutes before Strelitzia’s arrival (since we now have confirmation that their talk occurred before Strelitzia came along a little bit later), especially since we see him again in the same outfit at the war (when everyone’s getting prepared to fight). Lord Gula also questioned if they came inside the warehouse to search for Ava, since they’re skipping out on collecting Lux, clearly aware of the Dandelions. *cough*
Anyways, as I was saying about Blaine, I believe he’s genuinely trying to help Lauriam find Strelitzia. His morals stand that he despises lying with a whole passion, still holding up as he doesn’t seem to hesitate to speak his thoughts to the others, so I doubt he’d lie to cover up his tracks.
Though, on the other side, there’s one thing that’s holding me back to say he’s innocent completely:
To contradict myself, there was someone that pointed out that Blaine called the Foretellers’ Chambers, the Master’s room instead, having a similar tone to ‘Darkness’ calling the Master of the Masters, just ‘Master’. I dunno either...I just hope he’s innocent, but that’s just wistful thinking at this point.
In all honesty, I was going to go into full depth into how Blaine could be innocent, but the lack of information surrounding Blaine makes things a lot more difficult than it should be, and I kinda grew tired of trying to piece together things for hours. Maybe one day I’ll make a Part 2, but I just wanted to dish this out there, before KHUX updates and does the opposite of what I just said.
Feel free to add on, I’m just tired and rambling at this point!

I’ve come up with a list of disjointed headcanons because I’m having an existential crisis over Roxas and Ventus being different people/the same person and KH3′s looming presence is scaring me.
The headcanons are written for an AU based on the initial premise of the “Cranky Old We’ve-seen-some-serious-shit-you-would-never-understand People” trio, but blown way out of proportion.
This post can be considered Part 2 to the one linked above.
Expect some wild dumb thoughts also being thrown in…
KHX, KHUX and Pre-BbS:
The era of small, angsty children going through mid-life crises and not appreciating Disney because Lux collecting is insane.
Strelitzia. Dead.
The Keyblade War.
Mass memory wipe commences.
Amnesia galore and Union X is formed.
Problem with that though is that the new leader all have to bear the burden of retaining everyone’s memories of life before and what happened during the War.
They’re just kids.
Bless them.
Aren’t Ephemer, Skuld, Ventus, Brain and Lauriam Keyblade Masters by default because of this?
I mean, there’s no one around to tell them if they’re still ordinary Keyblade wielders or not, but now that they’re Union leaders, it would make sense for the five of them to perform a mock Mark of Mastery exams in the Keyblade Graveyard.
Just to feel like its all official and the end of the worlds wasn’t upon them or something.
Ventus should be allowed to laugh at Terra and Aqua in BbS.
AKA, the reason why Ventus doesn’t have Starlight in BbS but probably does like every other NPC in KHUX.
Because the Mark of Mastery back in the old days granted you a new Keyblade.
You remember the Masters of Masters having the Gazing Eye in each of his apprentices’ Keyblades?
Apparently, he also forged their Keyblades from their hearts.
Well there you go.
While five kids doing the same to each other is a chaotic mess, it’s still in the realm of possibility.
Just stick your hand in a heart and viola!
An entirely new Keyblade.
For reference, go look up Gatchaman Crowds’s NOTE.
The Keyblade version of Graceful Dahlia is formed via this method?
All those weird plot points Nomura makes.
Out of the five new leaders, Ventus is undoubtedly the youngest and has the least experience when it comes to leadership. He doesn’t understand why he was chosen in the first place anyways when he can’t even stand for himself.
He has issues.
But he wants to be helpful.
Shift Pride is introduced to Union X and Lauriam starts to go looking for his sister, asking for Elrena’s aid in his endeavours. Every possible lead they follow winds up a dead end and they have to start their searches all over again. In this AU, Lauriam doesn’t confide in the others about his sister’s disappearance because he believes too much in the power of friendship. It’s during this time that Lauriam starts neglecting his duties as a Union leader, and Ventus, being the nice kid he is and all, covers for him and does the workload of two grown-ups.
This arrangement goes on for quite a while, so much so that Ventus loses it.
He goes ham on Lauriam’s ass because it’s not fair; they all lost important people and things before and during the War, what matters now is what they can do to preserve the memories.
“Why are you so intent on chasing a ghost of the past?”
“She’s my sister, you wouldn’t understand!”
Laurium and Ventus get into a fight, which ended up with Laurium losing his heart and Elrena following him shortly after because she stepped in the way of his Keyblade to stop him from doing the same to Ventus.
Guys, Elrena just wants everybody to be happy.
She used to be sunshine and rainbows.
AKA, the story of how child soldiers became Nobodies.
AKA, a method of leaving the Realm of Sleep, or in this case, the dream within a dream, the alternate reality which Union X formed.
In his guilt, Ventus exiled himself from Daybreak Town.
Like, he just up and left the second layer and went back to the dream world where the Keyblade War took place.
And then he destroyed his Chirithy, basically an intimate part of his soul since he started sleeping. Soon he jumped off a cliff and BAM.
AKA, a method of leaving this particular part of the Realm of Sleep, which was fabricated by the Masters of Masters.
Ventus enters Reality, where times are different and years have passed.
Surprise, surprise, though, the first layer of dreams was very real (despite everything they’ve been told) and lots of children died.
The people of Daybreak Town were the SURVIVORS of the War, the Foretellers were more senior Keyblade wielders, and MoM being the guy to put them all to sleep.
So the War in KHX was technically the second of its kind.
The War (the player has flashbacks of) in KHUX is the first.
Memory alteration magic for the win here.
HE’S IN THE FUTURE.
PANIC.
Confusion.
He’s alone for a period of time, in which he starts to adopt a backhanded grip in the hopes of utilising Wayward Wind’s blunt edge because he’s scared of doing the same to anyone else like he did to Lauriam.
Stabbing and hitting becomes guarding and slashing.
And then Xehanort showed up
To screw things up.
Heart-splitting action occurred some time later.
As did Vanitas.
Sora’s healing time also happens and Ventus forgets about Daybreak Town for like a second.
Actually, more than a decade.
Daybreak what now?
“TERRA! AQUA!”
Post-KH(ish) and Early-358/2:
Roxas doesn’t remember his first six days because he was having flashbacks of the War through his connection with Sora and Ventus.
Xemnas is scared that he’s remembering Sora.
Marluxia nearly cried foul when the boy was inducted.
Larxene wanted nothing to do with him.
Why?
Since the two lost their hearts in a fake realm of sleep, their memories are a bit scrambled. So what they remember of their Sombodies is in correlation to strong emotions.
You know.
Like that time they died.
OR THE KEYBLADE WAR.
Still, Marluxia needs power and Roxas seems familiar.
And Larxene?
She just wants to have a good time.
See what makes him tick, what makes him different, what makes him Roxas and not Ventus.
She’s bitter and jaded. A few years of being nothing can do that to some people.
Don’t expect her to pat Roxas on the head mockingly.
Okay, she does but that was only a one time thing.
It’s accidental, but she ends up forming some sort of amicable acquaintanceship with the boy.
She hasn’t had proper friends since…
.… Since what?
Ah, it doesn’t matter.
On the other hand, Roxas is weirded out by the fact that Marluxia and Larxene seem so familiar despite not having any memories of his Somebody’s life.
When he looks at them, he feels nothing but regret and the urge to profusely apologise for something he doesn’t know about.
He’s paranoid, guys.
Wait, what?
Day 11.
“You’re going on a reconnaissance mission with Number XII.”
“But, Saïx, she’s going to kill me!”
“Not a concern of mine unless it hinders your ability to collect hearts.”
AKA, the beginnings of a proper adventure with “Accidental Murder” and “Friends Should Not Fight (Even If I Die)”.
Note to self: Marluxia’s crack code name is “Death by Sister Complex”.
It’s a grand adventure.
One that includes flying saucers, a grand amount of explosions and lighting raining down from the sky and roasted acorns.
Just like old times, in Larxene’s mind.
Seriously, what were the Foretellers thinking when they sent children to go collect Lux?
Oh, just casually go defeat huge Heartless, no biggie.
What was that about a war?
Roxas learns survival skills like a madman.
A friendship is formed?
Day 22 and sea-salt ice cream like normal before RTC.
Pre-CoM(ish) and During:
Roxas is still being paranoid, even with less people occupying the Castle That Never Was.
At least Larxene and Marluxia isn’t around to give him the heebie-jeebies.
He thinks.
Paranoid to the point that he doesn’t even interact with Xion as much as he did in canon and Xion doesn’t get a face (from him or Axel) because he’s scared that someone might try to use him as scapegoat.
Plans go awry because initiating social interaction isn’t in her programming. Xemnas almost throws himself off his throne.
Meanwhile, Marluxia’s just doing his own things in Castle Oblivion and unintentionally makes Naminé give Sora memories of Strelitzia.
Also, thanks to his tenure as Union leader, he does in fact have power over memories to a certain degree, how else would the War be wiped out from the Dandelions’ minds?
He teaches Naminé things.
But memories of Strelitzia only means one thing. Lauriam.
And Lauriam’s… nice. Very different to Marluxia in some ways.
“Who the hell is this?”
“Lauriam.”
“YOU.”
“Who?”
“Strelitzia?”
“WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT?”
Confrontations within Castle Oblivion are disorderly.
In this AU, the goal is not to cause a coup, but rather, it’s to make others (coughxemnascough) think twice about forming Kingdom Hearts.
Stop trying.
It’s not gonna work, old man.
Not knowing that he’s in the process of leading a group to stop another war from breaking out is Marluxia’s mood.
Larxene low-key just wants to burn Castle Oblivion to the ground because she can feel Ventus’s ghostly presence withing in the walls, even after how many years its been since she lost her heart and forgot some things. A few millenniums? She knows it’s familiar but she can’t put her finger on the feeling. Maybe it’s just her excitement acting up, high voltage running through her body making her think there’s something not quite there here.
If they did actually succeed in finding the Chamber of Waking, Larxene’s reaction to Ventus’s body living without a heart would be, “Oh, great! I was right, there’s a damn ghost in this place!!”
A lighting show inside a half-dead world is great.
Larxene finds it ironic that she’s dying to a Keyblade for the second time and just laughs, instead having a “I’m fading” moment like all the other Nobodies.
Sora is confused.
Larxene. Gone.
“It was great while it lasted.”
Yes, Ventus is asleep here still, but he’s currently wrangling with Roxas’s acute trauma in sleep land.
Roxas’s coma is key.
Because he remembers being Sora AND Ventus and he’s so confused because he:
a). Saved a whole bunch of kids like himself from serve trauma.
b). Saved a whole bunch of worlds from being taken over by the darkness.
c). He’s lost himself at least twice in wherever he is.
He’s walking through a version of Daybreak Town before everything in KHX and KHUX.
“When the worlds were bathed in light” sort of Daybreak Town.
Half-awake and half-asleep.
The real incarnation, present day where the legacies of Ephemer, Skuld and Brain are lived and breathed by Daybreak Town.
Also, Ephemer, Skuld and Brain is another friendship trio that forms in this AU.
This is important.
They lost Lauriam and Ventus in one fell swoop and what do you do when you lose your friends?
You became stronger by strengthening the bond that remain and forge new ones.
In Union X’s case, they soon abolished the old Union system and formed a meager with what was left.
Competing amongst themselves to collect the most Lux becomes a thing of the past.
The people who didn’t agree with this change were free to leave Daybreak Town (the dream within the dream) and establish connections with the outside and Reality, moving from the Realm of Sleep and into the Realm of Light or Darknes, but they still regarded Daybreak Town as home, so now and then they’d send themselves to sleep.
AKA, how Luxu got to the outside world by blending in.
AKA, the ability to put something in the universe to sleep forever is exclusive to the old people for once.
Those that remained slowly regained their memories, and despite all the aftereffects of the War(s) on the population of Keyblade wielders, these people and the ones who left still interacted with one another.
Which basically means, if the leavers found any potential across the worlds, they’d send those who could possibly wield a Keyblade into a deep sleep to be trained in Daybreak Town; while they might age mentally, they’ll stay physically the same.
AKA, a better option for immortality.
Luxu’s around for a bit.
He passes on No Name at some point after this.
Their comatose bodies are sent to Scala Ad Caelum for safekeeping, where they are to remain for all eternity unless they chose to leave Daybreak Town themselves.
And because of this, Scala Ad Caelum is abundant with darkness and light, ensuring that it stays between the two Realms.
I guess Scala Ad Caelum is a world formed from the hearts of the participants of the Keyblade War.
Their hearts didn’t become part of Kingdom Hearts?
Scala Ad Caelum is the original base of most, if not all, Keyblade-related activities.
Scala Ad Caelum is home to many; light and darkness guide those whose dwell on this world.
Daybreak Town 2.0?
Somewhere in the realms between it exists.
Many years later, Xehanort and Eraqus became the apprentices of a Keyblade Master descended from a person who left Daybreak Town all those years, who acted as one of the guardians to all the sleeping hearts.
Yen Sid is trained by a wandering Dandelion descendant.
Back in the old days, being a Keyblade wielder meant you went to sleep, guarded Scala Ad Caelum or you got found by a stranger who took a particular shine to you.
After Lauriam “died” and Ventus left, Ephemer, Skuld and Brain realise for once that they’re just children.
Two of their friends are gone for eternity.
Back to Roxas, he’s just… tripping out. Majorly.
What’s with all these grey cats surrounding him and bawling their eyes out right next to his ear?
They’re going off the rails, saying things about calling the Grand Masters over to the plaza he awoke in, calling him a name unfamiliar to his memory.
Then there’s a corridor of darkness and light opening right before the poor boy and the trio that steps out are who he assumes to be the Grand Masters.
They look barely older than him, maybe by a year or two but no more than that.
“Ventus?” the girl whispers, taking a knee to meet him at eye level. “It’s been years, how…?”
“Please, Skuld. We could’ve never known if he left in the first place. He might’ve actually run off to another dream and accidentally opened up a corridor here. Don’t overwhelm him with questions,” says one of the boys, tilting back his head slightly to stare at Roxas from under the brim of his hat.
“I wasn’t about to, Brain! Eh, Ephemer, back me up here… Ephemer? Something wrong?”
“It’s Ventus for sure, but… His heart… I can’t sense it.”
During Days 23 to 50, Sora goes through Castle Oblivion and Axel does the dirty.
When Larxene and Marluxia cease to exist, it begins the process of reforming as their Somebodies.
They’re how old by now?
Their Heartless are long gone.
Which means that while their bodies end up in Scala Ad Caelum, their hearts awaken in Daybreak Town, just as Sora is put to sleep by Naminé—meaning they just missed Roxas returning to Reality.
Did I forget to mention Xion is still a puppet?
Late-358/2:
“All my friends are dead to me.”
After awakening, Roxas immediately begins to distrust the Organization. He’s beyond paranoid by this point.
He’s suspicious of Axel especially, considering that the members who perished at Castle Oblivion weren’t exactly pushovers.
He thinks he’s done this before; maybe Ventus did too?
The Grand Masters weren’t exactly transparent on what Ventus did, but Roxas knew better than to question it when he saw the way they acted guarded around him.
He has a “contemplating on running away from home to find answers” phase. Like all good Nobodies do at some point in their meaningless existences.
Seeing as Xion doesn’t have any problems following the orders of anybody, he enlists her help to investigate.
She gets a face.
Finally.
Jokes on Roxas because Sora’s memory is questionable.
IT’S STRELITZIA’S FACE.
[ I just realised Marluxia and Larxene aren’t around by this point. ]
[ That’s a shame. ]
The change affects everyone’s sight. Yes, even Saïx and Xigbar aren’t safe.
She retains the colour of her hair, but it is noticeably longer than what it appeared to be initially.
No one knows whose face Xion has and no amount of programming can change it.
Xemnas is tired of kids not following the plan.
A wild Riku Ansem appears.
And he’s just as confused by Xion as the rest of the Organization.
“DiZ, it looks like no one Sora’s ever met.”
“Perhaps it took its face from another source.”
“What—those other drawing of Naminé’s? How can that be?”
“Not everything needs a sound explaination. No matter, regardless of the puppet’s state, you need to capture it as it will be necessary for our plans to move ahead.”
Despite Riku’s Ansem’s skepticism, Xion having Strelitzia’s face is on Naminé’s part.
Because Marluxia was half the asshole he was in canon and memory magic is very potent in the hands of a capable student.
Going through Marluxia’s head and finding a girl of unknown origins was very good blackmail material.
She drew creepy renditions of his old life.
And then she shoved a copy of Lauriam’s memories into Sora’s heart when she put him to sleep to reconnect his chain of memories.
Why?
Because she could.
And she wanted to flip the bird on Marluxia in the case that he didn’t die and would have to fight Sora again.
[ Oh, jeez, this AU’s version of Sora will be so weird in KH3′s setting because of that one trailer showing us Marluxia’s return. ]
Naminé the Witch of Memories for the win.
The wonder duo of Roxas and Xion eventually allow Axel into their circle of conspiracies. However, there are cutthroat rules about how and what he can do to help.
The days go.
Kill Heartless, collect hearts, lie to Xemnas, eat sea-salt ice cream.
Just the usual shebang.
Traitor!Xion is a thing now: desperate to discover her origins, instead of being forcefully taken and convinced, Xion willingly walks right up to DiZ and Ansem’s doorstep.
Yes, even though she and Roxas are friends, it should also serve as a remainder that their relationship isn’t as close in canon, here they both halfly trust one another because they know the Organization has more sinister plans for them.
They need another pair of eyes to look out for their backs.
Their partnership is just them using each other for personal gains.
Axel is completely on a different loop.
He has no idea what’s going on in his friends’ heads.
They were planning on offing Axel but resisted the urge.
Xion learns exactly who and what she is.
DiZ finding the opportunity to do so, puts her to sleep and forces Naminé to rewire her memories; making it seem like to Xion that the Organization stole her (Sora’s) memories and DiZ is trying to help her get them back from Roxas.
“Destroy the boy.”
“Okay, DiZ.”
Naminé takes the time to stick a copy of Lauriam’s memories of Strelitzia in Xion too. For good measure, she reasons to herself.
Roxas’s final battle is technically against “Mystery Girl”.
An unholy amalgamation between Xion’s last form and Marluxia’s own.
Her memory went out of wack.
There’s flower petals everywhere when she lands a blow on Roxas while they fight above Twilight Town.
Prologue-KH2:
Making munny is exhausting.
The normal stuff happens, except:
a). Naminé to anybody she can get her hands on, “You get a copy of someone’s memories and you get a copy of someone’s memories! Everyone gets a copy of someone’s memories!!”
b). Axel buys a crate of sea-salt and throws it down from atop the clock tower, wanting to test the limitations of digital data and human injury on Day 2.
“Accidental Murder” evolves into “Natural Disaster of a Murderer”.
When Roxas thinks Axel died, he shrugged it off.
People come back from the dead all the time.
Stop starting fires, DiZ.
Ansem Riku questions his morals.
Everything should be back to normal when Sora wakes up, right?
Unknown Point(s):
“Lauriam?”
“Ah, my old friends. How long has it been since we last talked like civilised people?”
The three Grand Masters laugh. “Far too long.”
“Hey, Marluxia, where—”
“Who’s this?”
“Why, might I introduce to you my dear friend Elrena?”
“You may.”
In other news, Ventus is a time traveller, Lauriam served his time, Elrena didn’t ask for this and Kingdom Hearts is bad news.
I might add some more headcanons after KH3 blasts a hole somewhere in my ship and becomes safe to talk about.
