Jamie Johnson 5x09 Review

We see Jamie at his sullen worst and poor Boggy’s mental deterioration continues apace in what was a good but downer ep. Let’s dig in!

We finally return to the season’s most important story line, e-gaming. Jamie’s doing pretty good for himself in the virtual world of gaming so much so that he’s clearly willing to throw away his chance at making a full recovery in the real world. Jamie was well out of order this ep, just constantly burning bridges and being a sullen jerk. We’ve seen this play out before where Jamie can be a little shit but they really dialed it up to 11 this ep. In general from what I’ve seen of British TV they’re not afraid to have their characters be more unlikable then most American shows but we really do need to see Jamie act like a good guy at least a few times this season

A good start would be for Jamie to actually be a good friend to Boggy who’s not doing great. His anxiety is getting quite bad and we can see that he’s desperate for Jamie to talk to him again even though the pressure of being Jamie’s stat man is making his mental state deteriorate further. The only other example of anxiety being tackled on kids tv is Jonah Beck from Andi Mack and while the writers did a very good job in S2 with Jonah’s panic attacks, that story line was abruptly dropped half way through S3 without Jonah ever seeking treatment, telling his parents, or even telling Andi herself onscreen. I don’t expect the JJ writers to make those mistakes and I would imagine Boggy actually gets real help and Jamie does find out

The Jamie and Boggy friendship has become seriously one sided this season. During Andi Mack S3 the friendship between Andi and Cyrus wasn’t really apparent on screen but it just seemed like Andi didn’t particularly care about Cyrus, she was never actively malicious towards Cyrus like Jamie is being with Boggy. We certainly need to see Jamie being there for Boggy but we also need an apology and I hope Boggy gets one #justiceforboggy

As an aside, the writers obviously couldn’t have known in advance but this e-gaming plot would have been ideal for the post covid19 S6 they’ll eventually get to filming

There was a darkly funny moment where Jamie confronts Dillon about being jetpac11 only for Dillon to reveal he’s only texted his mom to let her know he wouldn’t be coming home and Jamie just drops it without asking follow up questions. I hope we get a Dillon coming out to Jamie scene as having Jamie Johnson himself react positively to Dillon coming out would be important in setting a good example for the mostly young audience

There’s been a lot of theories as to the true identity of Jetpac11 bandied about, the one I favour is that it’s Howard Royle’s son. We’ve seen him e-gaming, he has a grudge against Jamie which might explain the use of 11 which is Jamie’s jersey number, and he’d know all about Hawkstone’s strict social media policy which would explain why he got Jamie to post a sexist comment that would surely get him in trouble. Though one strike against that theory is that he might not know enough about Phoenix to correctly guess that it was Zoe who made Jamie take down his sexist comment

I’ve heard Jethro Stevenson as a possibility which would be interesting. He’d bear a grudge against Jamie, they specifically brought up the stolen bike escapade earlier this season, and might have learned enough playing with the Phoenix kids to guess that Zoe would make Jamie take down the post. I’ve also seen it suggested that Boggy created Jetpac11 as a way to get Jamie to need him which would be quite the twist but I don’t know if Boggy is capable of pulling that off at the moment. It seems that Aisha was ruled out as a suspect as she was seen doing other things when Jetpac11 would have been playing

I liked the detail of Dillon still wearing the same clothes he left home in

Nice to see Zoe and Kat being friends and good to see Zoe not just giving up on playing professional football. Her making Jamie write an apology post and then telling him she’d be watching him was hilarious

There were a lot of sad moments this ep but I think Liam bringing his kite to the beach in hopes of ‘’accidentally’’ running into the gang was the most desperate and pathetic moment of the night. He’s burned a lot of bridges and though he has made things right with Phoenix he’s still not in the inner circle. Clearly he regrets outing Dillon and he did have the good sense to wait until him and Dillon were alone to ask when he’d be coming home but he still needs to actually apologize for his actions. I’m excited to see how his redemption arc will play out

Poor Mike, you could see how disappointed he was when he caught Jamie lying to him. We already knew about Mike’s career being ended by injury but it hammers home that Jamie still has the chance to go pro. It also adds a nice little parallel to Graham Simmonds, Graham wasn’t injured but he had been a talented football player in his youth who never went pro and that drives him to pressure Dillon and Liam to succeed where he couldn’t. Of course, unlike Graham, Mike has never pushed Jamie like that and has always been his biggest supporter

I don’t know why we needed an Eric/Aisha/Freddie love triangle but I assume it ends with them learning to choose lads over lasses. It already seems that they’re taking this love triangle to a more textual level than they took the Jamie/Jack/Michele love triangle from S2

Looking Ahead:

Jack’s back, wonder if she’ll interact with Jamie at all

I assume the eventual reveal that Zoe has the pendant will put a damper on her friendship with Kat

Graham Simmonds goes to see Dillon in person. That should be an interesting scene to watch

Ruby and Alba’s adoption story line comes to the fore again, I wonder if we’l lget more light shed on their past before coming to live with Becky and Dawn

There’s not much left from the S5 trailer that hasn’t already happened. Dillon playing in blue against an adult team in red is the biggest thing. I could buy part of it being a dream sequence but I also think it’s likely that there is a real game he plays in. I wonder if he ends up signing for Northport since he knows that our problematic fave Duncan Jones is stridently anti-homophobia

cilla and daisy are EXTREMELY affectionate, they just love holding hands, kissing, just being close. mick loves having his arm around del’s waist, and he gets progressively more affectionate as the drinks go around. pru is affectionate with bee in a very Horny Girl way 24 / 7 so her affection actually becomes very sweet when she’s drunk / high. we’re not at all surprised that caia and lauren are the queens of affection, but mostly to each other.

johnny and cameron likely bickered more often and tbh, i feel like one mick realized he had legit feelings for delphine, he acted super weird and the whole family noticed. fern was probably very gentle about it but liam went full tf is up with you, kid ? cameron and freddie always inherently had feelings for one another, so it was just there from the get go.

most of the nicknames are just ones everyone sort of had growing up ? pru, bee, vee, mickey, duffy, del, etc. like, i don’t know if any nicknames are singular to any particular ship tbh they’re free for everyone.

fern worries about liam more than she lets on and it’s probably her inner saboteur that has her cope with that by drinking with ethan. gideon worries about lauren CONSTANTLY, because he’d legit die if anything happened to her or caia. he doesn’t worry about rome necessarily, but he gets wind of her endeavors without him and hopes she’s staying safe. jack wonders if she’s going to fall into old habits the longer she’s around pru, del, and co., so she’s worried about disappointing / hurting kimber because of that. arlo knows coco has her shit together, but he can’t help but worry !!! she doesn’t need his concern and he knows she can handle herself but he does !! want to help !!

shocked to learn that bee wasn’t kidding about the occasional topping ! though daphne def topped her. mick physically tops, del does it emotionally. molly tops romy which is amazing for their height difference, and olivia and esme def battle it out every time, LOVE that for them.

cilla is big on kissing often, so henry tends to arrive at parties with some trace of her lipstick on him every time. with everything going on in the press, dom and emmy are wise to play up their affection, but behind closed doors, he’s definitely the one to initiate. dusty probably drunk kisses lucas every time and it’s just never mentioned ever again. jack’s horny on main, so she’s always all over kimber. meg initiates kisses often, though mostly as a power play.

cilla’s only an early riser if she hasn’t gone to bed, so henry’s usually the one trying to make sure she’s up before noon. dom’s always up early, and while daisy was the type to mumble sweetly for him to stay longer, emmy usually doesn’t stir unless she wakes up in a Mood and pulls at him to stay behind. bee’s always up before pru, and pru thinks that’s a complete crime.

gideon obvs doesn’t sleep, but when he allows himself to rest, he demands WEEKS of going undisturbed, so imagine a pale, lonely freak vampire sitting in the woods and staring at the sky motionless basically. meg, unlike bee, happily sleeps in late and takes her sweet fucking time to do it, though with sid she always skips out before morning. ivy doesn’t believe in anything before one pm, so surprise surprise that nora started suggesting breakfast dates for nik.

since they’re all stupid soft, gonna go out on a limb and assume it was mostly mine idiots who said it first. except for obvious ones like sadie, who ran to the hills, and gideon, who believes love is too weak to encompass it.

listen EVERY CHARACTER IN EVERY GENERATION IS TOO CLOSE so nobody needed to be told. someone gets together, and by the time they home, the information has fully been spread.

what do their family/friends think of their relationship ?

each ship has their own pros and cons, and while certain people have LOUDER opinions ( fern loves bee, doesn’t understand why pru let her go ; if cameron were alive, she’d be politely and quietly apprehensive about camille’s friendship with clem’s son, the same with daisy and henry / cilla, etc. ) but it’s usually either we hate this ( meg @ pru/bee, sadie @ mick/sadie ) or we love this ( fern @ pru/bee, mick @ jimmy/caia, dusty @ duffy/vee )

who is more likely to start dancing with the other ?

lauren’s always the one who gets elliot dancing, grady would’ve sat in the corner at his own wedding if not for cecile while simon LOVES to dance and always guides em and asha out to the floor. pearl will pull ANYONE out to dance with her.

who cooks more/who is better at cooking ?

cameron is a horrible cook and has set freddie and johnny’s respective kitchens ablaze many times, marilyn has specialty dishes but she’s too lazy to cook often. ivor knows the basic, but he whips them up for cecile. nora’s excellent at cooking, but for some reason, only nik and coco have ever tried it.

simon is often too hetero for his own good. clementine is guilty of this, too, but she’s cute enough to get away with.

who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during inappropriate times ?

BIG ROME AND GIDEON ENERGY. also big dom and emmy / daisy energy. jack and kimber are definitely guilty of this, too. jules probably whispered something indecent to bella at cecile’s wake ( big ow typing that ! ) and it made bella feel so normal for five seconds that she was sort of always endeared after that.

who needs more assurance ?

given their history, hannah and freddie need a lot of reassurance from each other. that was obviously a problem for mick and look how THAT turned out. immediately post rehab romy needed a lot of validation from molly, which became messy.

cameron could NOT sing, but did it all the time for daisy and henry, so bless freddie’s patience. fern walked in on liam softy singing one of his inappropriate songs to pru once and loved it, a la baby emma and baby got back. duffy does this constantly for his daughter, and vee’s definitely caught him a few times. emmy would never sing, but she def played medieval choir music over bastien’s baby monitor and dom was full ???? over this.

what do they do when they’re away from each other ?

most of the time they literally do not shut up about the other person, for better or worse. or it’s messy and they don’t consider them enough. it’s VERY one or another, which never turns out well.

one headcanon about this otp that breaks your heart.

AGAIN too many to choose from but the way we wrote charlie out and put johnny in as daisy’s father ? astounding, 10 / 10 because that works a little TOO well for the dynamics that played out with gen two and makes cam’s death hit a little HARDER. also we’ve been saying this for years but ivor / dom interaction pls. the scandal of it all.

one headcanon about this otp that mends it.

soft concept is the scooby gang ( there’s no freddie, just gay daphne, a shaggy and scooby, and velma ) having elaborate halloween plans every year, even if it’s just to have a movie marathon. costumes are often required, and dusty LOVES some good riddles, so she’ll get every stoned and hide clues around the apartment that lead to the snacks.

Alright soooo, we all know how Louis and Harry met so I won’t go THAT back in time but I’ll start at 2010 where they where already formed as a band. My timeline will be a little different than most you’ve seen. In all honesty, it’s a lazier version but still somewhat informative so bare with me or whatevs.

These are MY outlook and opinions on there relationship so don’t hate because I got time today, tomorrow matter of fact, everyday.

But anyways chile,

2010 and 2011 - So these 2 years is a year I truly believe was the “puppy love faze.” I say this because in my opinion they seemed to like each other (Especially Louis *cough cough*) but didn’t really talk about those fellings to one another just yet due to the fact that they MIGHT have been confused on those feelings they had for one another. I also believe that this was the year one of them made a move (verbally or physically.) By this I mean that either Harry or Louis confronted the other individual first (ex: Louis confronts Harry first about his feelings or vise versa.) and told them how they truly felt. I can’t really say what year I believe that was (could have been 2010 or 2011) but for sure, one of them confronted the other about how they felt first. In my opinion, it resulted well because the other individual returned those feelings to. I also believe that towards the end of 2011 they most likely started getting even more comfortable around one another in a sense that they shared “single beds” and also went on a trip with no other band mates but themselves and shared a tent. I could say clothes but all of the band mates shared clothes (in the early days) so that’s not really proof in my opinion. When they started wearing the same clothes when the band to a hiatus (Louis and Harry) that’s proof for sure but when they shared clothes and was still in the band I can’t really consider that proof. (Sorry not sorry) This was also the year Eleanor came into the picture.

** Random little rant/input about Eleanor and Louis “relationship.”

* Okay so there relationship confuses me it’s like... you can only fake a relationship for so long until you explode you know what I mean? So I’m questioning why Louis still drags her along with him if the relationship is “fake.” His contract is over and he publicly followed Harry so like there’s literally no reason for him to associate with one of his “beards” anymore. But what I honestly think is that Eleanor is lowkey his dog sitter like y’all think about it she’s ALWAYS with his dogs like what if she just babysits them that’s all?! Lol I know I sound mad crazy but like for real! Another thing to is I totally understand that you don’t have to get married to someone to prove your love to them but like... he shows more affection to Harry more than his actual “girlfriend” and he hasn’t at least proposed to her. I also heard that they have little tattoos on there hand that says the first letter of there name. (L and E) but idk she still associates herself with his sisters to so like idek she confuses me a bunch because it’s like I know Larry is real but where does El fit in ya know?

2012 - By this time I believe they where dating and beyond comfortable in there relationship nobody can tell me otherwise lol. 2012 was the LOUDEST year ya feel? (Besides 2018) in 2012 there where MANY proofs pertaining to there relationship I won’t name them all because if your a Larry you should know by now every “Larry moment” from A - Z without needing it written down. 😆 Anyways love, what made me become a Larry was this year alone (2012.) Their would be videos of Louis touching Harry or vise versa. Or there would be videos of Louis getting jealous of something Harry did or said or Harry getting jealous by something Louis did or said. I believe this year was there prime year of their relationship in a sense that they where so open with it and not closeted because they weren’t ridiculed by the whole world just yet. Even though Eleanor was in the picture by then, and Harry was supposedly dating Taylor, Louis and Harry bond was beyond unbreakable around this time. In my eyes they where head over heels in love with one another. (Sounds corny but it’s true honestly.) I believe that Taylor and Harry had a thing. It most definitely wasn’t anything super serious but it still was a little “fling” I should put it. I say this because when they would ask Louis about how he felt about “Haylor” he would get this little attitude in a way that anyone in relationship would react. He said in one interview; (can’t remember what the interviewer was called) “I’m happy that there good friends.... if that.” He said the last part not so loud but babygirl thank the lord for subtitles. Why would Louis react like that if Harry was just his “friend” ? No one else in the group seemed bothered by Harry and Taylor little “fling” or any of Harry’s other little “flings” but Louis... why? Because Harry at the time, was Louis man babygirl periodddd.

I believe that they had a open relationship where they where allowed to date whomever as long as it wasn’t something long term or serious. I say this because most of the little “flings” or relationships Harry had never lasted past a year... + we all know for a fact that Harry didn’t date all those girls the media said he did. Anyways back to there open relationship. It would make the most sense why Harry could have a little “fling” as well as Louis and there relationship stayed somewhat neutral. I know it might sound crazy but it could be true. Doing that in any relationship is extremely toxic but I believe it’s something they did. I’m not considering El as part of Lou’s “relationship” because idek what Louis considers her tbsfr sis) anyways love, it would honestly explain why Harry got broken - hearted when Louis got Brianna pregnant. For example that one concert when he said “Here in One Direction we love love, we usually just spread it all around.” And Louis told Liam and Niall that he thinks Harry is f’ing with him. Why would Harry say that if he didn’t feel some type of way about Louis becoming a dad? Why would Louis respond in such way if what Harry said wasn’t directed to him? I’m going to get hate for this to but Freddie is Louis child sis. I don’t think that Louis would go as far to fake a child tbh. (I could be wrong) But on a side note, It’s so disrespectful when people say that Freddie isn’t his kid when Freddie little adorable self looks exactly like Louis. Some people in this fandom (sometimes) have a tendency to deny every relationship the boys are in and say “management formed it!” I literally never seen a relationship that Harry or Louis has been in where the fandom accepted it and admitted that it was real. (Besides the relationship between Louis and Harry) it’s always “FAKE” or “FLUKEY” or “ARRANGED” even when Harry said my “ex” in one of his interviews (referring to Camile) Some Larries & Harries where so quick to say; “HE WAS FORCED TO SAY THAT I PROMISE YOU HE NEVER DATED CAMILE AHHHHH.” Like love chill out. I’m not even trying to be rude but someone had to say it. 🤷🏾‍♀️

2013 - I consider this the first downfall of there relationship in a sense. This was a time where I feel like there relationship was sort of rocky. Around this time management restricted the boys (Louis and Harry) to not really “touch” or socialize with each other like they did before. I believe management did this in hopes to kill the “Larry Stylinson “rumor”.... but we all know that if a rumor lasts for more than 10 years ... love that ain’t a rumor no more that’s a FACT. Anyway, by management doing this it got Louis and Harry so used to ignoring each other in a way and being very cautious to what they did or said. We all know that both of these gentlemen are both very private individuals so I believe that they themselves didn’t really like the fact that people knew about their relationship and was constantly talking about it + management making them hide there relationship didn’t make the situation any better. It seemed to me that this had a big toll on both of them equally. If you watch Larry proofs (2012-2013) there’s most definitely still proof there (2013) but it’s not as straight forward as it was 2012 it’s more hidden emotions or hidden gestures. (There where very few moments (in 2013) where there gestures between one another was out there) Another thing I have to say to is Zayn was so LOUD lol. What I mean by that is that he would ALWAYS BE SO OBVIOUS when he saw Louis or Harry flirting with each other or when they where mad at one another. He would always look back and forth between the two or nudge them if they did or said something naughty to one another (he would mostly do that with Louis)

2014 - 2014 was a year where they (Louis and Harry) officially became “pros” at ignoring one another. They where so used to doing what management told them to do that having to act a certain way around one another for sure had a big toll and them and the relationship as a whole. To many people it looked like they “hated” one another but to me that’s not the case. All the boys in the band (not just Louis and Harry) where used as muppets. The media and management controlled them. When you get famous, you have no control of you anymore in all honesty. People paint/make you the way THEY want and that’s what happened to Louis and Harry but instead it was with management. I believe 2014-2015 they argued a bunch. Not to the point where it became physical, but to the extent of some harsh words getting thrown here and there so with the fighting it cut ties between them even more. (Harry ain’t sing sweet creature for nothing)

2015 - Same thing as 2014. By this time Zayn has left the group which had a big toll on all of them but for sure had a bigger toll on Harry. Around this time to, Louis announced he’s going to be a dad. I know for a fact Harry was somewhat hurt at the fact that Louis got a girl pregnant (like I mentioned above) so he had a little “fling” with Kendall and MAYBE another girl or 2, to get his mind off Louis. To me though there relationship seemed like the type that they broke up then got back together... multiple times. Because around November of 2015, Louis and Harry went on a 14 hour plane ride and when Louis landed he for one looked mad happy and not tired and Harry plaid shirt was more ripped I believe. Later on the boys when on a talk show where the host asked if any of the boys “did it” on a airplane. Louis turned his board proudly saying “I HAVE.” Harry was hesitant but he said he has to. What a coincidence that, that interview was 2 weeks after the plane incident between Lou and H. I am fully aware that TV shows are always pre -recorded but for a fact that interview was AFTER the plane incident (Nov. 11 when the pictures leaked of H and L). So like I said before there relationship seemed like an on and off thing which can be draining most definitely.

2016 - By then, the boys agreed to take a “break” from the group. Harry was working on his album and his upcoming movie “Dunkirk” which both got released in 2017. I believe this year wasn’t really loud (I WILL NOT consider Harry supporting Lou when his mother passed away as proof because that’s beyond disrespectful he was being there for him through one of his toughest times and to use that as “proof” is very impertinent. ) There was some photos of Louis sleeping in Harry bed around but that’s all I could find for any “proofs. correct me if I am way wrong.

2017 - 2017 was the year Harry was with Camile (Around June I believe the started dating) many fans didn’t know due to the fact that they where very private about it so it’s almost like that relationship never existed lol. They dated for exactly a year or so but I believe they broke up because of Harry heart feeling for someone else... his little baby Louis. Some of the songs in his album (Harry’s) was based on relationships especially sweet creature. Every time I hear that song, I literally say to myself he should have just named it “Louis Tomlinson I miss you so I wrote a song for you kk bye.” Around this time I don’t think they where talking in “that way” (couple way) due to the fact that Harry was being busy touring while also being with Camile and overall just always doing something around the clock. (As well as Louis.) When asked if sweet creature was about Louis, Harry stuttered like crazy. It was a personal question but it for sure caught him by surprise because he knew it was and didn’t really know how to get around that question without stuttering like crazy first. Also he didn’t really make sense with what he said. In the beginning he mentioned how he didn’t really want to tell a listener what or who the song is about and for them to think whatever they’d like but in the end Harry said; “I would lean towards no... But it’s like I thought you didn’t want to tell people listening to the song what to think of it... hmmmm 🤔

2018 - This to me was the second loudest year (Besides 2012) Louis was a judge in X-factor and Harry was touring again. I believe this was the time where they rekindled there relationship again (L and H) because to me Harry seemed more happy and more open with himself. There where also photos of Louis watching his little boo thang (Harry) at his concert. Harry would sing and look up at someone while smiling. Also when the girl said “Looks like THEY made it.” Harry just smirked because the girl done changed the lyrics (sorry I don’t know her name don’t come at me lollll) I believe that was the same day Louis was there watching H. Also, how they where both together with Nick that one day:) (2018 was so loud fax no printer) anyways love, in my opinion Louis looked happy to and more vibrant because he knew that him and H where together again. There was video proof of L struggling to sit down while he was getting in the car with Simon also he had a pillow for his X-Factor chair 👀 I ain’t saying Harry did some but he had his man struggling to sit the next day so idkkkkkkkkkk. ☕️

2019 - The only proof that I can recall is Harry taking that photo of Lou for his birthday. Lou and H are very private but to me it seemed like their relationship was still going strong around this time and that they just where vibing.

2020 - Biggest proof pertaining to Larry 2020 would have to be that interview in January that Louis did where he is at home and is literally soooo distracted by whoever is infront of him (*cough cough Harry sis.) After that interview I don’t even wanna know what happened because chile Louis was READ-TEAAA. Anyways yes here’s my lazy version of the Larry timeline. Excuse my typos it’s 4 AM right now and I’m tied but if I got more to add I will!

If you are looking for distractions today, I’d always love to hear more about Killian and Anna in New York.

You are a bright light in my time of free agency trauma. Alright, here we go:

Anna is sliiiiiightly older than Killian, which is a fact she lords over him their entire lives. She’s got a stubborn streak several miles wide (like Killian told Emma in The Period of the Long Change she’d kick his wall just to be a dick when they were kids) and that never really changes, but she’s also got a habit of being fiercely protective of the people she loves and, eventually, that includes both Jones brothers.

And the same goes for Killian. That’s part of the reason they butted heads at the beginning. He and Anna are frustratingly similar. They act on emotion and they can both be a little hot-headed (Anna was his first on-ice fight, after all) but they feel with their whole heart and their whole soul and once they care, well, that’s it. They’ll defend you to the end.

So, while Killian and El are definitely each other’s best friends, he’s got an especially soft spot for Anna and no one worries more when she’s climbing up mountains. She’ll tell him to relax, KJ, God, it’s not like I’m no wearing safety equipment and it doesn’t do any good. Even Mr. and Mrs. V are like...you’ve got to calm down.

Plus, that’s another thing they’ve got in common. Anna’s constantly going somewhere and so is Killian. It’s a little different, but they definitely spend phone calls discussing the pros and cons of various on-flight peanut mixes and Anna is constantly teasing him about charted flights, KJ, you could probably ask for any snack you want, but then he tells her well, you refuse to get on a real plane, so...and she sticks her tongue out and the FaceTime call wobbles a bit because he’s laughing so hard.

She always stays with him when she’s in New York. There’s not really ever any question about it, she just shows up one day on his doorstep, even before he gets hurt and is still living with Will. And that catches Will off guard the first time (mostly because he’s not used to so much family) but then he calls her Little Vankald and she kicks at his ankles and they all make pasta together.

Anna is very good at boiling water. And that’s about it. Killian teases her endlessly -- “It’s a small miracle you haven’t starved to death, Banana.” “They still have delivery in foreign countries, you realize that, yes, KJ?” And Scarlet makes sure to mention that “His only experience with foreign countries is the vast wasteland of Winnipeg” and Killian probably throws garlic bread at him.

Will is very good at making garlic bread.

And it keeps going like that. Anna flies home after he gets hurt and it takes both Elsa and Liam to calm her down, but Elsa’s only kind of hanging on by a thread and Liam’s the only one who can string a coherent sentence together. “Is he going to be ok? Will he be able to play again? Does he know about Milah yet?” Liam makes her count to a hundred before she answers anymore questions.

Anna cries when they lose in the Cup finals. She tells Killian about Kristoff before she tells Elsa. And when Killian gets hurt again, she doesn’t even think before she flies home, with that sign, because she knows what this game means to him and what his family means to him and the only thing that makes sense is to drop everything and help.

Also Anna is a MAJOR pushover for every member of the Jones Line. She knits for all of them and babysits and when she and Kristoff get married she tears up a little bit at seeing both Matt and Peggy dressed up.

Scoring Your Love (Part 2/?)

Modern AU where Killian is a world famous soccer star who has hit rock bottom and been sentenced to the place where ‘football’ legends go to die – America. While here he crosses paths with Emma, an up and coming musician and film scorer who challenges everything he thought he knew and makes him want more than the game he’s always loved. Will be filled with fluff for days, and eventually rated M.

A/N: Hey all! So first and foremost want to thank the kind people who already liked, followed, and commented on this story! Your support and enthusiasm has been awesome, and I hope you continue to enjoy. As promised, this chapter we are switching over to Killian’s POV and seeing where he is at. Let’s just say it’s not as glamorous as Emma’s world at the moment. Anyway, hope you all enjoy and let me know what you think!

Waking up from an almost deathlike sleep to the splitting pain that was currently slicing at his temples, Killian Jones felt the need to groan but couldn’t muster the strength. Bloody hell this was awful, easily the worst hangover he’d had in years, and how he had gotten to this state he couldn’t recall. How had he possibly drunken himself into such a stupor as to feel this terrible?

Last night was a blank, but slowly the pieces trickled back to him even as he fought off the instinct to open his eyes. He’d been trying to forget about his current tale of woe and had ended up at his favorite spot across the city. They had the best rum he could get outside of his own personal collection and a reputation for a discrete staff, but something had happened. He tried to remember what it was and then the words rang out in his head.

“This is you, right?” A young woman he originally believed to be a waitress had asked, pulling out a tabloid rag that claimed he wasn’t just using performance enhancing drugs but hard stuff, stuff on the street that killed and killed quick.

It was all lies, rubbish in full, but he’d seen red because… well, what could he say? He hadn’t the proof to exonerate himself. He couldn’t just piss in a cup and prove his innocence, and it infuriated him to be so powerless. Besides, if today the story were drugs, tomorrow would be inappropriate women or sexual fetishes. Then it would be on to secret families and children, maybe some money laundering for the mob, and perhaps an embarrassing tell all about his skills in the bedroom just for good measure. The onslaught of bad press he was suffering these past few months was relentless and Killian had no means to stop any of it, leaving him feeling frayed and more than frustrated. Then he’d seen the flash of a camera and realized somehow a photographer had gotten in and that the woman who had saddled up to him was too close for comfort and he lost it. Would he never get a moment of peace again?

From there the details were hazy. He’d been whisked away by his security, a charmingly named giant of a man called Tiny, before he could get himself into any real trouble (though it was close when he moved to punch the pap square in his ugly face). But he’d ended up back here and then Killian had done what he was beginning to do too much of these days – he’d poured himself a glass of liquid fire and then another and another until he was obliterated enough to crash. Now he was regretting that idea in the realest way, and as he opened his eyes to the too harsh light, a part of him wondered how he’d turned into this man. He should have been better than this, but alas here he was, wasting himself away in the style of the one person he hated most of all.

Before he could think at length of painful childhood memories and the disappointment made flesh that was his father, Killian pushed himself upwards and tried his best to act human. He showered, he changed, he looked a piece of toast in the eye for quite a while unsure if he could eat it, and he was about to go back to bed and call it a wash of a day when the front door to his place swung open. In walked his brother dressed in a pristinely tailored suit, not giving a damn that it was a weekend or that Killian surely would have no such apparel to be sporting in kind. Leave it to Liam to turn up just as Killian began to believe he was in the clear, but any hope of his evading the disappointment of his brother was cut down as Liam stared at Killian with a look that so effortlessly mixed pity with barely reined in frustration.

A standoff between the two brothers ensued then where neither man spoke or made any sudden movements. Killian knew if he waited long enough even the ever-silent and constantly composed Liam Jones would eventually break, and it wasn’t hard for him to keep from speaking either since each time Killian tried the sound echoed around in his head and made the dull throb of his hangover roar into something more. But it was difficult as the seconds ticked by to keep his mouth shut and Killian watched his brother harden a little more with each passing moment. Liam had come in here with some kind of hope it seemed, hope that he’d been misinformed about last night and that he’d show up to a less unsettling scene, but Killian had lived up to the bad expectations yet again and if that wasn’t oh so bloody typical he didn’t know what was.

“You’re still breathing,” Liam finally said and Killian waved his hand over his chest as he inhaled and let the breath go with a bit more sarcasm than his brother deserved, but Liam ignored it. “Well that’s something at least.”

“It’s the little things you know,” Killian barked out, less as a joke than as a jab, but Liam didn’t take the bait even if something flickered in his eyes like the tiniest bit of amusement. Anyone else would have missed it, but Killian saw that in another situation when things weren’t quite so ugly, Liam would have laughed at that.

“And last night… would you call that a ‘little thing’ as well?”

“Could have been worse,” Killian replied and now Liam did laugh but the sound lacked all humor.

“Right. Hold on to that thought,” Liam said as he pulled out an envelope from the lining of his suit and handed it over to Killian. Killian eyed it warily and then put down the coffee he’d managed to half choke down as he opened it and blinked a few times.

“What’s this?” Killian asked looking at the plane ticket in his hand. Flying from Heathrow to LAX? Why in God’s name was he heading to LA?

“That is your future. Pack what you need, brother, because you leave in two hours.” Liam said the words with no hint in his inflection that he was anything but serious even as he said the most ridiculous thing Killian had ever heard uttered aloud.

“Ha! That’s rich. I have to give you credit, brother. I thought your sense of humor had long since died. But this… this is a prime joke indeed.”

“It’s no joke, Killian. You’re on the next plane out. I got the call from the club this morning. You’re done, finished, or rather, they’re finished with you.”

Dread crept into Killian’s veins even as he didn’t believe what his brother was saying. There was no way. There was just no way that a team – his team – would throw him to the wayside over this. It didn’t make any sense. Nothing he’d done could merit kicking the best player bar none off of the team in a year like this when the competition was stiff. It had to be a joke, but Liam wasn’t cruel enough to say things like this to him. Was he?

“Done?” Killian repeated, still not meeting Liam’s gaze.

“For now,” Liam said, though his words were hardly hopeful as he delivered them. “You’re too much of a liability to them at the moment, leading scorer in the league or not. But you’ve got one last chance to make it right. You clean up your act with a season of nothing but a spotty clean appearance in the States and then you get to come back.”

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me!”

The words were out of Killian’s mouth before he could think the better of them. Not that he would have changed his phrasing. He was pissed as all hell, and his brother was damn well going to know it. As Killian’s manager it was Liam’s job to protect Killian’s interests, and this felt like the opposite of that. During his career Killian had made a killing, putting enough money away in contracts, endorsements, and bonuses to mean that none of that mattered anymore. All that mattered was the game, and the game was hardly played at a level worth Killian’s time in America. He wasn’t going to take this shit lying down and accept that his newfound fate required taking everything he’d worked his whole life for and tossing it out the window.

Killian had been building towards this career and making a life from the game he used to adore for decades, almost since he was old enough to walk. As a boy he’d been adamant that football was for him. All he wanted was to play the sport that everyone he knew loved and rooted for, but the most important person to Killian who actually played was his elder brother. Liam had always been Killian’s role model and guide in everything. He’d been every bit of inspiration Killian needed first when they were at school and then when Liam got his own shot at the pros himself. But when injury sidelined Liam and grief struck their family as they both lost their mother, Liam’s role had shifted. He’d moved to guardian and then manager and became the constant voice of reason that Killian needed. Where Killian lived life in a reactionary, organic, and oftentimes too genuine way, Liam was levelheaded. He was the smart one, and Killian was the one who kicked a ball around a pitch and looked pretty so as to keep his name on the list of most desirable players in the world and prolong his time playing the world’s favorite game.

Now though the charm and the wit and the lopsided grin that used to be just as valuable as his skill on the field weren’t working in his favor. Because it didn’t matter that Killian still had the best stats in the game for successful goals or assists. All that mattered was his name was being dragged through the mud and in a last ditch attempt to spare Killian’s already dampened reputation, he was being shipped off to the MLS, a shit storm of mediocrity over in America where they didn’t even have the bloody sense to call the game football. Soccer. God, it was ridiculous!

“I am deadly serious, brother, and it’s time you got serious too. The only reason any of this is even happening is because you can’t get yourself together. You need to man up and take responsibility. It’s the only way you’re going to fix this.”

The terrible crimes that Killian had committed to deserve this punishment weren’t theoretically all that bad. Celebrities and famous sportsmen did far worse every single day, but Killian had crossed the line with the wrong person. He’d slighted a powerful man, a man who had the owners of nearly every decent club in Europe in his pocket, by sleeping with the man’s ex-wife. That in itself wouldn’t have been a crime, especially since he and the lady parted ways after only a brief fling, but Killian couldn’t let things just be. Instead he’d gotten far too drunk at a team event and he’d insinuated – or actually blatantly stated - that the lady had been far more pleased with Killian’s performance in the sack than she ever had been with her husband to a nearby reporter. It was stupid to be sure, and in hindsight he was more than disappointed with his own foolishness, but now all these months later he was paying the price, a price that in his mind was far too steep to be fair.

“All right, all right. Perhaps there’s some room for a change in my life, I admit. But you have to realize where I’m coming from. If this were anyone but Gold it wouldn’t be such a mess.”

“And yet it is Gold, and you knew it was Gold the moment you went after that woman,” Liam said with stern condemnation in clear as day in his tone. Only after a moment did Liam seem to think the better of the coldness. “Men like that are low, Killian. Hell, they’re lower than low. They don’t have honor and they don’t fight fair, but you have to keep your head above the water line, or you give the enemy every chance to take you out. You have to be smart, instead of risking all you’ve worked for on things and people that just don’t bloody matter.”

Killian dropped down to the chair in his too-large living room with the full window view of the city below and put his head in his hands. He had such a headache from all of this nonsense and he was still furious, but damn if Liam wasn’t right. What point was there in fighting this when it was happening? The trade had been made, contracts had been signed, and the only chance he had of ever getting back to an actually competitive match was to suck it up and face the consequences. Nothing would be solved by moaning over his injustices to Liam, and every second that Killian continued to do so Liam would lose patience for the situation.

“But why this? I don’t understand, brother. How does my going to America fix anything?”

“It doesn’t, but it buys you a precious ally. The one person I can figure the world over who can actually check Gold in any way.”

“Such a creature exists?” Killian asked skeptically. How could they? They’d need more money than god and likely even less moral standard than the reptilian devil who was putting Killian through his metaphorical paces right now.

“She does, and she and her family’s media empire just bought the LA Galaxy. But even if she realizes you’re an asset, Regina Mills isn’t in the business of disappointment. So if you want a second chance you’re going to go there for a year, play the hero, and win that team every bloody game this season to help her build the brand she wants. When that’s done and you’ve managed to not make a fool of yourself she’ll get you back here.”

“And you trust her?” Killian asked as Liam let out another harsh laugh.

“Never. But I got it all guaranteed in writing, and gave that lawyer you’ve got on retainer something to do other than keeping those drunk and disorderly arrests off your record. It’s ironclad, and all you have to do is live up to your end of the deal.”

Killian let all of this sink in and though he still had the feeling like his stomach was twisted up in knots, there was a subtle comfort in having a plan. The past few weeks had been so bleak with all of the terrible media coverage slandering him for things that weren’t even remotely true, and it would be nice to get away from that. He’d never be happy to be shipped off to America, for that was where faded stars went to die in this game, but as long as he held firm to the fact that this wasn’t forever, he could find a way to press forward.

“It’s just one year?” he clarified.

“Aye. Just one year.”

And from there, no more words were needed. The brother’s came to a silent understanding that this was their new reality, and things shifted into motion to bring Killian from the country he’d always known to a sunny, stylized, and superficial city half way across the world that he didn’t imagine could ever compare to home.

Post-Note: So as I said before, there’s a very clear difference between Emma’s life trajectory and Killian’s at the moment, but that won’t do anything to stop a love from forming (because after all this is one of my stories, and it’s guaranteed a certain level of gratuitous fluff). Anyway, there are a number of chapters I have already written for this story, and I am hoping to post the third chapter (where a meeting between CS will happen) in two weeks time.
