Random Hatchetfield headcanons in no particular order.
In honor of Cinderella's Castle being fully funded, have my silly little thoughts about Hatchetfield and it's residents (A few of these I yoinked from Tumblr so they're mine now :3)
Richie and Pete are both autistic. Grace is too but she has lower functioning autism.
Pete’s special interest is horror movies/special effects. Grace and Richie's special interests are…pretty obvious. But Richie also loves Godzilla and Grace loves the supernatural.
Jon Matteson said that Paul might be autistic, so I take that as canon. On top of that he has undiagnosed depression and anxiety.
Paul has two siblings. One being Gary, his little brother. And his older sister, who he lives with, who is actually Richie's mother. Richie's father died when he was very young so Paul stepped up to help his sister and nephew financially, and he’s the closest thing Richie has to a father figure.
For someone who used to tell Gary and his sister that he'd never have kids, Paul adores Richie and tries his absolute best to be the father he never had.
Boy Jerry is Paul and Gary’s cousin.
Ruth and Richie probably met when they were really young & both were lonely & in need of a friend. Like walking up on the playground “you wanna be friends?” “Yeah!” type of deal.
Paul and Charlotte were friends in middle school-high school.
Gary decorates his house like a suburban white mom, those rustic white letters in the kitchen, everything labeled in slightly stretched text, that type of thing.
In the proshot for NPMD, Ms. Chasity uses the correct pronouns for Ziggy. So I headcanon that The Chasity family, despite being hardcore christians, respect the LGBTQ community.
The most lethal weapon in all of Hatchetfield is Grace Chasity’s puppy dog eyes.
Charlotte’s sweater was a birthday gift from Ted. He made her swear not to tell anyone it came from him. He has a reputation, y’know?
Paul uses his phone like a grandma, he puts on the glasses to read and everything.
Gary knows how to play the piano.
Ted loves Steph and treats her like his sister. He's so proud of Peter for not only pulling one of the most popular girls in school, but that same girl is helping him with his self image and confidence.
Charlotte does yarn crafts (like knitting and crochet and cross stitch and shit) to get her anger out because stabby stabby.
Barry Swift is fully, completely, absolutely, 100% gay and in denial about it. Also he and Gary are childhood friends (to feed the Attorney in a hurry fans).
The people who went to Sycamore are, in no particular order; Paul Matthews, Charlotte Sweetly, Sam Sweetly, Gary Goldstein, Barry Swift, Karen & Mark Chasity, Dan Reynolds, Nora Beanie, and Melissa Nolastname.
Grace is the type of girl who says she hates drama and gossip but she knows all the drama at Hatchetfield High.
Like Paul, Gary is also autistic.
Paul drives Richie, Steph, Pete, Grace and Ruth everywhere. Paul likes all of Richie's friends even if they're a little weird (he finds Grace a little obnoxious though but he's not gonna say it)
Steph says Paul’s aesthetic is “Cardboardcore”
Pete is just the most attentive and perceptive partner ever. In every sense of the words. He picks up on every little detail. Steph had a bad day? Pete instantly knows how to cheer her up. Steph is excited about something and needs to talk about it? Hey babe what’s up tell me all about it. Pete’s the type to start keeping snacks on hand because he knows Steph’s internal clock and that she always forgets to eat and then gets hangry after a few hours.
When Stephanie is exhausted she literally makes no sense, she babbles the most nonsensical bullshit.
Barry Swift has ADHD and OCD.
Gary wears those blue pinstripe pajamas. With the lil hat too.
Paul has the most unorganized and dirty room for some reason, like he never even bothered decorating it.
Sam and Charlotte were high school sweethearts and kinda rushed into marriage soon after graduating.
Gary wanted to buy a Wiggly doll for Richie.
Steph’s ripped jeans had small holes in them when she bought them and her dad made fun of her for buying something already broken so she made the holes bigger out of spite.
Grace has asked Steph, Pete, Richie and Ruth at least 3 times if they would still love her if she was a worm.
Gary unironically refers to Facebook as "the book of faces”

boyfriends but awesome (and instead of a webtoon its an independent webcomic)
design notes and 3ds flipnote concept art below the cut
general notes abt their designs and what the comic would be like in my head:
>they dont have names in this version cause i think that was one of the good things they did originally. i imagine they refer to eachother as "that one" "the other guy" etc like the dhmis guys when talking about eachother.
>they are not in a defined romantic relationship with eachother because i think thats more interesting, the polyamory aspect would be kept (im not polyamorous btw so im not gonna try to write an established polycule) but its more vague in that they all kind of have a thing for eachother but also hate eachother and want to rip eachothers guts out. and theyre all roommates and bffs. if you asked them what they were the answer you would get would be "friends who are boys". they are the height of male friendship, hate, love, etc.
>instead of focusing on sexualizing them in strange ways and doing boring moe shit it would lean into the comedy aspect BUT NO MEMES OR LATE 2010S SLANG !! this was something i could not fucking stand when reading the original (if you couldnt tell by now i did used to read boyfriends. it was a regrettable time and in redesigning and overhauling them i hope to make something good out of this wasted period of my life) like even when it was current boyfriends always made memes feel.. out of place. like as soon as they said it it wasnt cool anymore. it was the unfunniest shit ever
>i wanted the characters to look less WHITE and also more distinct from eachother and also less young cause in the original its like the same twink 3 times in different haircolors and their Chad. said chad is the best character only by way of not being annoying. so yeah i'll be more specific later but none of them are white and i gave them all different eye and nose shapes and distinct physical traits and bodies etc.
>mostly i just did this cause the "nerd" and "goth" ones piss me off so bad like thats not real. thats not a nerd thats just a nondescript waify femboy with glasses. thats not a goth, thats a tiktok eboy. and i felt bad for jock being trapped in this comic. and the prep one i feel nothing towards hes the most accurate to gay preps irl because they really are that annoying. but i tried to make him a little interesting atleast. anyways
Tumblr media
nerd - black, brony, always aggressively corrects the others when they state an incorrect fact, really into playstation eyetoy and obscure playstation games. insanely autistic. usually pissed off if hes not indulging himself in something he likes (yaoi, games, ponies, figures, etc). i just wanted to overhaul him completely to make him almost nothing like refrainbow's nerd because nerd type characters are always the ones i tend to see myself in and are my favorites but reading the webtoon that guy just pissed me off fr.
Tumblr media
jock - 2nd gen chinese american, one of the things i liked in the original actually was when they sexualized the jock (probably cause hes the only one who doesnt look 14 in that comic) and his big tits. hes a very genuinely kind guy, not the brightest, has a voracious appetite, he also still bakes cause thats cute i think.
Tumblr media
prep - he looks different here because i was originally going to make him white but i decided to make him a light/medium skintone black guy (he just wears a blonde wig and contacts). when companies make their pride month merchandise and advertisements this is the exact person they imagine in their head who is going to buy these products. hes a million percent one of those swifties who thinks taylor swift is secretly a lesbian. trust fund kid btw obviously. his only redeeming quality is that hes good at makeup. jokes in the comic are usually made at his expense.
Tumblr media
goth - 1st gen latino american, specifically peruvian because i am a self serving motherfucker. hes a really big numetal fan and listens to like 2000s evil wolf amv music in addition to legitimate gothic. his face changed a little too between this and the final design. his outfit completely changed but its only because i realized everyone else was dressed for relatively warm weather so it wouldnt make sense for him to be wearing multiple layers of black. if i do cold weather outfits for them id def reuse this look for him. hes still trans but i think all of them are in my version. also they dont use labels for their sexual/rom orientation. except prep hes homosexual gay.
congratulations for reaching the end of this incomprehensible bullshit 👍 hope someone enjoys this but idrc if its just for me either

This is probably gonna be a longer and potentially more spicy ask than usual so apologies for that. I've been reading through the new chapters as they've been released (great stuff by the way) and I've noted the frequent switching back and forth of jade/silverbark going by her original name (jade) or her moniker/title (silverbark/harbinger silverbark ) depending on who she is currently talking to, the nature of her relations with the person and the context of the conversation. One example being her last conversation with karkat at the end of the latest chapter. This along with the nature of deunistic radiation you mentioned previously and the theme of divergence/character divergence throughout this series so far, makes me wonder if eventually we may reach a point where she drops her original name and goes solely by her moniker/title (at least for a while anyway).
i've got two responses to this. the first is
Tumblr media
but the second is a bit more credulous. only a bit though. yes, godfeels has given multiple characters the opportunity to change their names, and this is partially a result of my desire to get away from the iconography of homestuck so that we can focus more on unpacking the themes of homestuck while telling a more “original” story. but i’d caution against the assumption that changing one’s name is the natural endpoint of self-actualization in godfeels.
is silverbark plural? is jade a mask she puts on around other people? is what we see in A1 the code-switching of an autist or a manipulator? these are excellent questions to be asking! but on the matter of names as such, let’s remember that silverbark is thousands of years old. a name change and gender realization is one thing for 22-year-old june egbert because she’s young and inexperienced. we see “june” as the hatched egg, the evolved form, the destination. but what if we fast-forwarded another hundred years, and she’s had all that time to live and be comfortable in her own body. would she remain rooted in transfemininity? would she still feel like “june”? does one break their gender or identity once, and no more?
among the many themes in its bucket, godfeels 3 is about change. changing people, changing times, changing expectations, changing lives and homes and friendgroups... and i’ve lived long enough to see the barest jagged tip of the truth that no two people “grow up” in quite the same way. “growing up” isn’t a static thing either, it isn’t affixed to age and it’s not a one-way street nor is it a bridge you can only cross once. i tried to show this in microcosm with dare in ch8, how they keep having life-affirming epiphany after life-affirming epiphany, only to backslide and start over from a place of only minimal progress. people can get better, and then they can backslide, and then they can get better again, and on and on, and nothing is ever done until it’s dead.
all of which is to say that i’m not interested in repeatedly showing the same types of change when i’ve got such a wildly weird cast of traumatized blorbos to poke and prod at. if june’s name is her planting a flag in her own identity, then perhaps to silverbark names and titles are a means of maintaining the area around that flag? what is “mary” to kanaya, what is “risk,” what is “dare” except a shield put up around something that needs protecting? or that’s worth protecting? for different reasons, to different ends. it’s all relative.
lastly, i would also caution against looking at a character changing their name and going, “ah, denexustic radiation!” not because it’s necessarily wrong (at least according to what VV said in the ch8 epilogue), but because it’s the boring lab-coated science officer answer to a profound philosophical question. which, you know, isn’t really an answer at all. there may be times when denexus is the culprit, or at least partially, but in most cases it’s the difference between wearing a glow in the dark radon watch for a few months when you were a kid, vs airsurfing in the radiation cloud of the chernobyl nuclear disaster.
anyway, i’ll leave us on a passage from the homestuck epilogues that is very important to me:

lukas question for you- do you think he knows that he's autistic? I don't know... anything about how developmental disorders are viewed/diagnosed in sweden and I'm torn between he knows/was diagnosed at a young age and doesn't talk about it or tell anyone, knows and will casually use it to get people to underestimate him (or anything else he wants), or genuinely doesn't know and thinks he's just a weirdo coder who wasn't socialized enough
I think Lukas got diagnosed pretty young - he took longer to start talking than the other children, got upset around large groups of people, had a narrow area of interests and had a lot of sensory issues around clothing. Being autistic is something he’s always been aware of and Swedish schools a pretty good with providing extra support to neurodivergant children so he didn’t feel “different”. I imagine his mum and dad were pretty good at making sure he had coping strategies and socialised so he wasn’t labelled the “weird kid” at school. Then his dad died and everything went downhill and Lukas spent all his time in his bedroom with his computer so when it came time to interact with people, he really struggled and started getting picked on. A teacher suggests that the annual summer coding camp would be good for him but Lukas is adamant he doesn’t want to go until his mum bribes him with some new computer parts. The first two days are awful and he hates it but then he meets Oskar and despite the other teen being very loud, Lukas finds it surprisingly easy to make friends with him. He’s very upfront about being autistic which doesn’t seem to phase Oskar, even when his new friend comes across as a bit of an oddball the more time they spend together. Then he’s got his own little gang of nerdy friends much to the relief of his mother, even if all they ever seem to do is talk about coding.
Most of Team GoJo are computer nerds so it doesn’t matter if Lukas talks solidly for ten minutes straight about some random piece of code because everyone else is just as interested in it as he his. Nor does anybody care that the CEO wanders around barefoot because shoes and socks give him sensory overload or that he often comes across as “odd”. Being autistic isn’t something Lukas ever tries to hide or see’s as a weakness - his brain just works a bit differently to other peoples.
It’s when the company starts growing and he has to deal with people outside of the GoJo bubble that being autistic is seen as being something he needs to hide. Suddenly the expensive PR person they hired is muttering about Lukas coming across as “weird” and wants to remove all his usual coping strategys to make him fit in more with “normal” society.
You can’t wear sweatpants to a finance meeting because it won’t send the right message. You usually leave all the social stuff to Oskar to deal with? Sorry, thats not how it’s done so you better get out there and pretend you know how to relate to people. You need to stim because you’re having sensory overload? Yeah, you can’t do that anymore because you look like a freak.
After five months of this and Lukas being so burnt out that he spends almost a week in bed they fire the PR guy and decide to do their own thing. Between them Oskar and Lukas devise a system so that if Lukas is getting overwhelmed or not hitting the right social cues, the other one can step in and redirect. It works pretty well over the years and they’ve got the whole “elusive foreign billionaire” schtick down to an art form, with everyone thinking Lukas disappearing from parties early is because he’s off on a hedonistic adventure but in reality he’s leaving so he can go to bed because masking is exhausting and he’s in danger of autistic shutdown.
Then Lukas sets his sights on America and the Roy Family empire and Oskar is surprised he makes it out alive because it’s months of talking and trying to understand the social norms of a country that’s so different from their own and with a bunch of people who seem in desperate need of therapy. At first it’s fun making up fake stories and dropping little nuggets of information for Team Roy to dig up but it quickly becomes apparent that Lukas is going to have to suppress his autistic tendencies if he’s going to get the deal he wants. There’s no way Logan Roy would even entertain speaking to GoJo if he knew that there was something “wrong” with Lukas so whatever previous mentions there were of him being autistic get burried.
Then Logan snuffs it and Lukas is stuck with a presidential race, Succession Bowl and the Roy siblings infighting. Oh, and his crush telling him he hates him whilst perched on top of a rock. Now he’s got to drag Team GoJo back to America whilst simultaneously figuring out which of the CEO candidates is going to be the least irritating to deal with. The Kill List is fun because he already knew who he was keeping but it’s fun to watch them all flapping around in a panic and trying to get on his good side.
However it’s exhausting having to pre-plan all his social interactions, even down to the facial expressions he’ll use, and try and remember how to act with each individual person. Sometimes it goes fine but most of the time Lukas experiences an overwhelming sense of physical exhaustion to the point where he keeps trying to brush off Shiv and her insistence that he attends every party on the roster. He’s having more difficulty managing his emotions than usual and is prone to outbursts of anger and waves of intense anxiety. His stimming is off the charts, as is his increased sensitivity to sensory input, and he’s even more insistent on everything being his way due to struggling with all the change thats happening.
Then the deal finally goes through and Lukas hides out on his private island for a month to recharge, barely getting out of bed or looking at his phone until Oskar comes to rouse him for the first WayStar/GoJo team retreat.
So in short, yes I think Lukas knows he's autistic and is pretty chill about telling people but as times goes on he becomes a bit more guarded with who he tells and how much he tells them. For instance Oskar knows all his safe foods and can easily tell when he's masking but Tom will only ever know that the reason Lukas doesn't like wearing shoes is because he's got big feet.

phineas wore exclusively button up shirts and varieties thereof until he was about five or six because regular tshirts do not fit over his head easily at all and until he made the conscious decision to try wearing them he couldn’t get one on without hurting himself and/or crying

alright so I know literally no one cares about this but it’s my social media I’m doing what I want /lh
I’ve been seeing a lot of slander about justin russo on the internet lately and I’m currently hyperfixated on wizards of waverly place so here’s why justin is an awesome character/doesn’t deserve the hate he gets
He’s kind and treats those he loves well. Justin is canonically really good at comforting people. Although he argues with Alex a lot, at the end of the day, he’s also her older brother and genuinely cares about her. When Professor Crumbs threatens to take Alex’s magic away because she doesn’t turn her report card in, Justin says that Crumbs will also have to take his magic away. Justin is ultimately selfless. We see again and again the sacrifices he makes for Alex and I think we mainly see his kindness in that relationship. Despite that, I think he’s also notably kind to Juliet. When he finds out that he made the mistake of reporting Juliet and her parents, he instantly tries to fix it. Not only does he try to fix it, but he puts his job as Monster Hunter in jeopardy for Juliet and her parents - her parents haven’t even been that nice to him. Justin is ultimately selfless and at the end of the day, he sacrifices himself or what he wants for others. When Rosie turns back into a good angel, instead of selfishly continuing to date her and keeping her in the mortal world (which he could have done - she literally offers to stay with him), he gives her up because he realizes the world needs a guardian angel more than he needs a girlfriend. Even though it hurts because he loved her, he gives her up. There’s no “award” for doing this - he won’t move up a level in the wizard competition, he really won’t get any recognition for giving Rosie up. He doesn’t even get any recognition for turning the moral compass back to good. He does it because it’s the right thing to do. Although later I’ll argue that Justin is constantly seeking validation, I also think that the heroic/good things he does are often done with no expectation of being praised for it. He does them because he has a strong sense of morals. He’s also kind to Harper, Zeke, his parents, and even Max, who people rarely ever show kindness to in the show.
He’s in touch with his emotions. When the show starts, Justin is very against anything that will show him as feminine or emotional. In fact, he even says he’s allergic to emotions (or something like that) to cover for the fact that he’s crying over his missing dog. As the show goes on, we see Justin start to embrace and accept his emotions more and to lose touch with his toxic masculinity. I think dating Juliet changed him in a lot of ways (making him more relaxed, etc), and I think one was encouraging him to be more emotional. After Wizards vs. Vampires, Justin is pretty emotional and open about his emotions in the show. He’s even open with talking about them. In the movie, he opens up to Alex about how he feels like Jerry & Theresa wouldn’t love him as much if he were less “perfect,” which brings me to my next point.
At the end of the day, Justin is a sad character. I know it’s a kid’s show but they really do cover a lot of issues so bear w me. I’m hyperfixated and I like to over analyze shows so I’ve thought about this a lot. Justin is the oldest, which means he already deals with pressure to be perfect. Then, add in the fact that his parents are constantly describing him as the “perfect child” and putting him on a pedestal, while pitting the kids against each other as a result of the wizard culture bc of the family competition (I love Jerry & Theresa but they’re not perfect). He’s also a high achiever and we know he puts extreme pressure on himself to do well - they always make a joke about it but it’s actually quite sad. He literally feels poorly about himself when he gets a B and bases his entire self worth on his grades and skills as a wizard. In fact, in the movie he voices doubt about whether or not he’s good at anything other than magic. I have a few things I want to say about all of this. First of all, I think Justin is constantly seeking validation. I think as the oldest and “best” child, he feels the need to be perfect all the time, but he also does many of the things he does because he just wants validation. When Harper decides to run a marathon, Justin does too, and sadly his accomplishment of finishing it is overshadowed by Harper “winning.” I also think Justin feels threatened by the success of others because he thinks it invalidates his. When he opens up to Alex in the movie, he says that he’s jealous of her because it seems like everything comes naturally to her. Justin feels as if his parents loving his siblings takes away from their love from his. It’s irrational, but very real. Which brings me to my next point - Justin has generalized anxiety disorder. It makes sense - the overthinking, the outbursts he has (Alex refers to it as a conniption once) of panic or frustration, the overachieving, etc. As someone who probably has autism, I also think he’s autistic (which would explain his troubles with tone, struggle making friends, obsessions with things like Captain Jim Bob Sherwood and science, being better w robots than people, and so much more).
Ultimately, Justin has a strong moral backbone. Although he’s a stickler for the rules and this oftentimes leads him to do bad things initially, he always does the right thing in the end. For example, when Justin and Alex go to court and Justin duplicates himself to be his lawyer, his lawyer ultimately proves that Justin is guilty; he even says something along the lines of “We’re Justin Russo. We always do what’s moral and just.” Justin has a strong sense of justice (which could also be from being autistic but I could do a whole other post about neurodivergency coding in WOWP and Disney & Nick shows overall bc there’s a ton of coding) and does what he thinks is right, most of the time. Sure, sometimes he does bad things, but he’s also a teenager at the end of the day and he’s highly competitive.
Finally, Justin Russo is super progressive - in fact, he’s probably the most progressive characters of the show. He acknowledges climate change and actively tries to create a solution for it. In fact, for his science fair project he makes a water powered engine, which would reduce carbon emissions. He also wears a shirt at one point that says “Make art not war.” I will admit that his biases against the werewolf he dated were problematic, but he clearly grew from that because he never held any of that against Mason. He’s also into science and is a nerd and although this is a stereotype, most young people who are into science and are nerds are progressive. I’m pretty sure he also is well aware of current events and would probably read the newspaper. Also I myself headcanon Justin as trans and bi (again could make another post about characters in wowp that are queer)
Little note even tho probably no one will see this - this is all just for fun. If you disagree with anything I said, just say it politely hahsh. Also please don’t make fun of me for this WOWP is a huge hyperfixation and comfort thing for me rn and I just wanted to make a silly little post where I analyze one of my comfort characters. Also I kin Justin so pls don’t like hate on him in the comments.

ZELDA HEADCANONS
Sun:
-- considers "Zelda" and "Hylia" as 2 different identities. When she has to act as Hylia (to give a serious order, to do some magic...), she moves her fringe to her left side. Also when Sky makes her angry in a discussion she is like: "remember I can be Hylia!" and  not "remember I'm Hylia"
-- she wears shorts under her dresses, she would be pretty uncomfortable without them.
-- She has a very strong personality, like a girlboss, and she's as chaotic as Tetra
-- She's Hylia, and so she must handle magic pretty well. Also Sky didn't have problems, if not more frequent nightmares and lightning scars and fear of thunderstorms... But "fear of thunderstorms" doesn't even count! However, she noticed her hair became lighter near the tips, and wavier.
-------------
Dot:
-- the girly princess? No way! She grew up with Four, she's a smith too, she loves adventures and festivities. The fucsia jacket is a hoodie (she covers the hood with her cloack), she wears leggings and seakers nunder the dress, that's actually a high waisted long skirt she can remove
-- her hair is kinda orangey! Also it's pretty long
-- she's a relative of Four! In the italian version of Minish Cap she refers to Link's grandpa as "uncle Smith". This might mean Smith is her uncle, grand-uncle or greta-granduncle? Dot's mom might be Smith's younger sister for example.
-- She had a pretty simple life before MC and FS.  Dot had learnt some magic because of the whole "descendant of a goddess" thing. Not much, and she preferred to not use it. So, when she got petrified by Vaati's magic, she got the signs of it. Her hands and feet are as small as when she was 12 (MC), and her hair got way straighter than before. And when Vaati kidnapped her, she got some eye markings, like tattoos, on her arms.
-------------
Lullaby:
-- genderfluid! But their father doesn't really support them and when they feel like a boy they just become Sheik and go in the woods or at Lon Lon!
-- They have a tanned skin and dark blonde hair
--They do want to be a mom though. Dusk is their daughter!
-- They can handle magic well, but Lullaby turned into Sheik for the first time when they were really young, and this had an impact on them. Their blue eyes became red with the Sheik mask (yeah I headcanon it as a mask!), and the repetitive use of it made their eye color turn from blue to violet even when they're "Zelda". They also got a sheikah eye symbol on their left eye, which they cover with their hair.
---------------
Dusk:
-- She grew up with her grandpa (Lullaby's father)
-- She has Lullaby's skin color! Also she's thin and tall
-- She  didn't attend a royal/exclusive school but went at Twi's same one so they were friends as kids. She also studied swords and archery!
-- She simply didn't recognize Twi as a wolf, she thought he had become a spirit, because she didn't know he had the triforce too!
-- When Ganondorf turned her into his puppet, her skin became pale, and she had those black scars/signs and her eyes turned yellow. Her light power kinda healed this, but she now has light brown eyes, that turn blue when she's really happy and yellow when she's angry. Her skin color changed back to normal but her lips are always more violet than normal and she still has those black scars.
--------------
Artemis:
-- Dusk's great-great-granddaughter! She has a similiar face, but her colors are different. Also she has chubbier legs.
--When the war started, she took the master sword and trained with it, until Impa told her she had to leave it for the next hero
-- She's been training with magic for a long time, since she can really use it perfectly, and she masters different kinds of magic. Every scar/sign she got is from the enemies' weapons, and not magic
-------------
Flora:
-- She refused the whole princess/goddess thing, she just refers to herself as a scholar, researcher and adventure.
-- she loves Sheikah clothing!  She has stealth lessons with Paya
-- she tries to imitate Wild's cooking in secret, but she refuses to admit it because of the "powerful hero/ useless princess" thing
--She has also been training a lot with magic, and when she sealed herself and Calamity Ganon, her powers were awake. But being sealed for 100 years, with constant light powers on, and Calamity Ganon surely did something. The constant light made her photosensitive, and her hands are burnt, not as badly as Wild's face of course, but you can recognize they are. The usage of a newly awakened magic, for so long time and with that intensity made her unable to use magic for the next years after she came back, and if she'll ever get her magic back, it'll be only few.
------------
Tetra:
-- She grew up knowing her name wad Tetra. She didn't know it was just a nickname, so for her "Zelda" is a nickname she doesn't even like. In the italian version of WW/PH, her name is Dazel. She prefers Dazel over Zelda when she has to do royal stuff.
-- even as Zelda her skin is dark and her hair is all curly
-- Wind's grandma loves her and already adopted her in her mind XD but she keeps telling her she needs warmer clothes and she also gives her lots of Wind's clothes that became too small for him
-- she has blonde freckles on her dark skin, Aryll says she's a starry night
-- chubby!!
-- She had never heard of magic before her first adventure, so you might imagine she must have taken it really badly. She has a messed up sleping schedule and she falls asleep in the strangest ways, positions, and times. One second she's arguing with you, the next moment she's asleep, even if she's on her feet, this thing can get dangerous for her so she always brings someone (mostly Wind) with her. She has scratches everywhere from her petrification too, and being petrified surely didn't help with her previous situation.
------------
Fable:
-- she loves to wear pink and sky blue together! Pink is her favorite color and sky blue represents the goddess. She's a fan of jewels too!
-- Don't touch her hair, she'd get mad!
--Legend's step sister and somehow twin! She and Legend have different mothers and the same father (the father became a king after the marriage with Fable's mom, the queen). Oddly enough, they were born the same day of the same year.
-- She knows how to use a sword but she mostly uses magic and she can kick pretty well!
-- She can use magic almost perfectly, like Artemis! However, being in a painting gave her some lighter/"discolored" spots on her skin, pretty much like vitiligo. Just few spots, as she could handle that magic well too.
----------------
Aurora:
-- a child. She's like 10/12. A pretty smart kid!
-- redhead, tanned skin, curly hair and lots of freckles!
-- autistic, her stims are most likely jumping and moving her arms! She loves springs and water in general, she could spend her entire days with fairies in a spring! Pretty enthusiastic about literally anything too!
-- she sees Hyrule as an older brother
-- She had negative memories about her brother, and giving the adjective "brother" to Hyrule is  like turning the page, seeing that adjective with a new meaning
--The poor kid often thinks her dreams are reality. She has problems in distinguishing vivid dreams from reality as she had been asleep for too much. On the other hand, she barely sleeps.
----------------
BONUS:
Phantom/Angel (Spirit Tracks!):
As the great granddaughter of Tetra, Phantom and Link should be related (One of Spirit and one of Phantom's parents must be cousins) Unless Spirit isn't the great grandson of Tetra and Wind... but maybe the great grandson of Aryll instead! This would explain why Spirit is in contact with the pirate crew but not royal, and since their first common relative is so distant (Wind and Aryll's parents) they wouldn't be considered as related and the fact they didn't know each other before would have more sense
-- She took her personality from Tetra AND Wind: her will to help and be a hero too, still being a bit sassy, and a little rebel (escaping from the castle). She's like, a perfect mix of their personalities.
-- As for her design, she has wavy hair, a slightly tanned skin (she's not dark skinned, unlike Tetra), she loves earrings and she has a lot of them!
-- She wasn't used to magic, she knew that but not too much, so being a phantom and leaving her body because of said magic had an impact on her. Her eyes were originally dark blue like Tetra, but they're now pink to purple and yellow! Her skin got lighter after ST, and so she wears makeup to seem less pale. Her eyes get irritated easily (red eyes when possessed) and she spaces out a lot, sometimes she has dissociative events

Shit they don’t tell you about Autism/Aspergers
Well, I’ve been learning more and more about different signs of being neurodiverse and I thought I’d put my own experiences here just in case it might be able to help someone else understand their diagnosis or themselves better. If you feel you have Autism, please speak to your GP or doctor to be able to talk to a professional because like all things, self diagnosing isn’t a good idea, ya feel me. - Let’s talk clothing b. Yes, so basically Autistics like to dress more comfortable, probably hate things like tags (I used to cut them off) and might only wear certain fabrics. Some people might wear certain colours only as well. Although, the general thing is that Autistics “aren’t expressive” you’ll find a lot of Autistics are and that might be reflected through their alternative clothing choices. Another thing is you might have very sensitive skin, washing powder can cause rashes and itchiness, you might not even be able to use soap. - Hair. Hair is so gross. So basically you might feel that having your hair in your face is so annoying. Ever since I was little I always remember just tying my hair up and leaving it like that. Wanting short hair to avoid it touching your face because of sensory issues. Although, you might like to have it coloured and expressive you might struggle to have your hair down because it just feels so gross. In relation to hair when washing it you might hate the sensation of shampoo and water and all that. - Although, being very monotone is a sign of Autism being very expressive is also a sign. The thing is I feel a lot of Autistic people without the correct support have probably got a diagnosis of depression or anxiety and I feel like that combined with feeling Autistic might make it hard for you to put any energy into things, whereas you know you are a expressive person. Also you probably have hella empathy. I know that is like the opposite of what you hear but seriously, myself and some other people I know with Autism are very empathetic people and feel emotions to an extreme. Although, it might not seem like we feel anything from facial expressions and responses we might be feeling so much it’s just too overwhelming to express it. - Let’s talk acting like a child. Not saying this to dig because I’m the same way, but most people who have Autism might regress into a childlike state which is known as age regressing. It’s usually a coping mechanism to deal with stress but I suppose it could also be triggered by sensory issues? Like I find when I’m really happy I’m very childlike. Oh and you might act younger then you are or be really immature, not always taking things seriously or understanding things. Which is okay and why having a specialist to help support you with the stuff you struggle with is key. - Stim. Stim. Stim. We hear about happy stim, sad stim but honestly you might just stim for every emotion. Also people with Autism might seem like they have tics but they can have vocal stims as well as motor. - Gender is complex right? Yeah I feel you. Feel like you flucuate between genders, have no gender, feel in the middle or might even be trans - although, this is a sensitive topic Autistics actually are more likely to have different relationships with gender due to how we view and feel about the world. So whatever gender you are b, you are valid! - Identity is confusing. The thing is you might feel like you have alters or different versions of yourself as well, which is why Autism is not diagnosed and you might be diagnosed with BPD or like DID. The thing is identity for us is always so confusing and we have such a different relationship about things about ourselves and how we view things. Sometimes it feels like someone were not and sometimes we feel like a different person, but that is okay and valid. - Control as a stress management. Now this is where things like eating disorders can be developed, maybe self destructive behaviours like self harming or perhaps being very toxic to keep everything the way you can because you feel like your life is going out of control. I really do feel you - and that’s why seeing a specialist can help you cope with shitty times like this. But that is a sign. - You have a safe space. Probably your house, your room and you barely leave it. You feel so fucking overwhelmed outside. Too many people, too many noises, too many things going on, which is why Autism can seem like an anxiety disorder but you just feel things very sensitive and can have sensory overload. - If you’re an adult now, probably as a child you were told you were just intelligent and there’s nothing wrong with you. Yep. Same here. Parents tried to get me diagnosed as a young age but they wouldn’t even test me. - For me, I cannot stop listening to music. I express myself through music. I’ll send people songs and tell them to pay attention to the lyrics or the video because it’s how I feel and it’s how I express myself. Some people might do that with art or writing or something they use to express that isn’t vocally with words, people might sing or make songs. There tends to be a creative or different way you express your emotions. - Special interests. They might change throughout your life. I thought you had to have something you were interested in since a kid but they can change and it’s known as hyperfixations! It can be literally anything, and they are valid. You probably hate talking to people if they don’t share one of your hyperfixations because you feel misunderstood or weird or lonely. Doesn’t have to be anything out of the ordinary. - Might blurt out how you feel to people, like having no filter. You like to have deep meaningful relationships and want friends you can talk about your deep routed emotions and dreams with rather then wow there is something on the news. That shit doesn’t interest you at all. - This might be an embarassing one but you might have a lot of issues with going to the toilet (ie. bleeding or runny stools and etc), especially when you’re stressed you might have really bad stomach issues or abdomen issues. That aren’t always explained but are probably stress induced when everything is too much for you, people tend to be more sensitive to those types of things if they’re Autistic due to sensory and sensitivites. - Meltdowns can be shown in crying breakdowns, anger breakdowns, can also be shown as completely shut down and you might experience catatonia, where you struggle to talk or move because you feel so sad, you might get so worked up and might even feel as low as feeling suicidal and might self harm as well when in these meltdowns. - You hate injustice and you probably are an advocate for the mentally ill or disabled. Seeing injustice might actually trigger a meltdown because you want to change things - due to your extreme empathy but you struggle to accept you can’t save the world. - Might have fake friends but as you grow older might cut those people off for using your energy and might end up with having barely any to no friends. Might feel extremely lonely and not understand why people can’t just be nice to you. - Relationships you probably take very seriously, like full on planning marriages when it might just seem like nothing to someone. This can make you prone to abusive relationships and you might not always notice if that person is good for you, no matter what they do you probably try to continue to fix the relationship. Took some notes from p-3a-s-life-resources <3 and personal experience.

how would you go about explaining the concept of being transgender to a child?
Good question! I think the best thing you can do is to be honest with your child. Exactly what you go about explaining after your initial definition differs by situation. I’d always start out with:
“Sometimes when people are born, they feel that the gender they were given when they were a baby doesn’t match up with the gender they know they are. The doctor’s might’ve said someone was a boy/girl, but that person feels that’s not correct.” And since I’m trans myself, I could add, “When I was born, the doctor said I was a girl. But it never felt right to me, because I’d look at other boys and feel more like them. I knew I was one of them.”...And cue perhaps a sea of questions.
Don’t worry about having to explain the ENTIRE subject to them all at one time. Answer only the questions as they come asked if they approach you first. And if you come to a question you yourself don’t know the answer to, don’t try and make something up. Simply say “I don’t know” because you can always find out together! Look for times when they look confused, ask if they need you explain more. But what I’ve found is that generally, after a few questions, a child usually doesn’t often inquire more, at least not for a while.
A lot of adults think that by making the definition sound more appealing to a child (one example I heard of was talking about hormones as being magic potions), but sometimes phrasing things this way can create more confusion. It can put too much distance between the child and the subject. One thing that really began to confuse me on my own trans identity was when people talked ahout being trans like it was on the same level as the stork bringing babies. It made me feel there was something “hush-hush” about being trans, and it made me feel like I too needed to conceal myself.
Parents think “what if I explain this to my child and they start thinking they’re trans, when they’re really not??” A) It’s not bad if a child thinks they’re trans, do not let them think that B) you can’t say if someone is or isn’t trans, you’re not them. Even children can know C) if they try things out and figure out they aren’t trans, no matter when they figure that out, then sure they aren’t trans, it’s fine, but D) if they try things out and figure out they are trans, well you have a trans child! Explaining being trans to someone doesn’t “make them trans”. If that was true, then how come I’m not cis when ALL I was brought up on were cis ways of thinking, or how come I’m not straight when ALL I ever saw on TV or in my life was straight people? Explaining what being trans is gives them tools to help them understand the world around them, and to potentially better understand themselves!
You might get asked how a person knows if they’re trans, and you can say “It’s different for everyone. Some people know by looking at other genders and feeling a very deep knowing that that is how they see themselves. Some people start knowing by what kinds of clothes they like or how they like to be called. Mainly, you can tell mostly by how happy you become when you think of yourself as a different gender.”
You might find yourself saying things like:
“Some people feel they need to change their bodies to feel better in them, but not everyone does, and not everyone can. Sometimes people just like to change clothes, their name, or pronouns! That’s like the he/him, she/her, they/them you hear everyday, but there are more. It’s whatever will make that person feel happier in their body.”
“You don’t have to know right away, it can take a long time. It’s alright to explore too! And you can explore it for as long as you want. If someone finds out they aren’t trans, that’s okay!”
“Sometimes, people think transgender people are all bad because the way the feel about themselves is different from other people, but being trans is not only good thing, it’s a beautiful thing. There are trans people all over the world, and they’ve existed for a very long time!”
Overall, I think there’s a lot of different things to be asked and their responses to fit here, but if there’s something more specific you’d like to know how you might describe, feel free to ask :P sometimes it can be helpful to a child if you look up definitions of words, like explaining what the word cis means or what pronouns are.
Above all, do NOT:
say there are only two genders. Let the child know there are many, even if the world around them tries to say there are two. Try to keep language all-gender inclusive, don’t say “to the opposite gender”, say instead “to a different gender”. Also mention pronouns don’t have to be gender specific. You might say something like, “a person might wear dresses, makeup, and have long hair, but go by ‘they.’” Mention sometimes people will go by all pronouns, only one, or more than one!
say you must medically trasition to be trans. They don’t have to change their body in any way to be trans.
put an emphasis on gender dysphoria (the unhappiness you have about your given gender), if the topic arises. Include it if it comes asked, but tell them what’s more important is gender euphoria (the happiness about being the gender you know you are actually). Priding dysphoria as a hallmark indicator of being trans is harmful to self image and can damage a person’s relationship with how they think about their trans identity.
talk to them like they could never be trans. Parents will end these things with “but you don’t need to know too much, you aren’t trans!” Imagine this child IS trans and doesn’t quite know it yet, or will figure it out later. What sort of impression do you want to leave on this child about it? What tools do you want to provide this child with now so they might better understand themselves later? Create a welcoming space for them to come to you if they ever think they’re trans. Let them grow up with a positive outlook on trans people, not as medical phenomenons, but as human beings just like anyone else
say you can’t know until you’re older. Kids can know now! I might’ve not been able to understand I was trans when I was 7, but I ALWAYS thought I was being perceived as a boy. Later, I learned it was called being transgender. Take your child seriously. Understand your child might not have the language to express themselves yet, so allow them to express themselves in ways they are comfortable with
perpetuate harmful ideas/stereotypes. For instance, autistic trans people know they’re trans, I’m one of them, but recently a Certain Famous Someone In The Media said that autistic trans people are “just confused” on their gender due to their autism. Not only is this incredibly transphobic, but also incredibly offensive to autistic people.
use outdated/transphobic language to talk about trans people. Don’t say “a trans woman is basically a man” or how a non-binary trans person is “basically a girl/boy” because that’s NOT true. A trans person is not some Off-Brand of their gender, I’m not a man 2.0, I’m a man. Don’t say you can tell when people are trans. Don’t say you can only be trans if you “”pass”” (I avoid that word anyways, it made me feel like I was wearing a costume). Additionally, you might look up ways with your child on how you can be aware of transphobia.
If you’re looking up websites or videos with your child that promote these ideas or shares views you think are transphobic, take the time to openly correct them, or switch to another source
It’s better to introduce this concept young before things like school, media, and other people introduce gender roles or the silly x genital must equal x gender idea or get them thinking of the two gender concept, because once those concepts are learned by a child, they can be harder to unlearn as an adult.
This is coming from someone who doesn’t have a child yet, and since I’d be a trans dad, these kinds of concepts would be simply a part of how I’d raise my kid anyway. But if you’re a parent already with kids you would like to introduce this topic too, it can seem daunting if you don’t know much about trans people. This can be as much of a learning experience for them as of can be for you. If you don’t quite know something yourself, you can always say “Let’s look it up!” and sit down with your child and learn about it together. The main idea is freedom: freedom to ask questions, to explore, and to learn.

you deserve to feel good all the time (sally mckenna x reader)
Tumblr media
for anon who requested: “oh okay so me and my overactive imagination have a new autistic reader idea 😅what about reader and her parent(s) goes to Hotel Cortez. her parent(s) aren’t the best, maybe they’re kind of abusive and don’t accept reader because she’s autistic. well, Countess ends up feeding on her parent(s) so reader is left alone. reader finds out and maybe has a meltdown, but Sally is there and surprisingly knows a lot about autism so she’s able to calm reader down and help her through it. reader has to either stay at the hotel or go live somewhere else because her parent(s) were all she had so Sally makes the decision to have reader stay at the hotel and take care of her because obviously she would do a better job than Countess because Sally knows more about how to help someone who’s autistic. and reader ends up bonding with Sally too because of how accepting she was and her parents were never like that. i know this is super specific and you don’t have to do it, but i thought i would share in case you were willing to do it. 😊”
so yeah basically that’s the summary ^^ also this is kind of an AU because the timeline I’m using does not line up with the show at all lol.
Trigger Warnings for meltdowns, death, ableism and mentions of sally’s drug addiction
I myself am autistic (at least according to my therapist) and a lot of these reactions/experiences that the reader has related to her autism are my own or close to my own. Hopefully I do this request justice and do a good job and don’t oversimplify anything.
You ran through the hotel, searching for your parents, but they were nowhere in sight.
Breathe, you thought to yourself, don’t break down, they’re probably just out getting food or something and didn’t want you bothering them. You just have a couple hours of freedom, you can let yourself enjoy it.
You tried to enjoy the few hours you got to yourself without your parents. Without them mocking the way you talk or walk or move your hands, without them grabbing you with full knowledge of how uncomfortable it makes you. No cracks about how you had to leave college because you “can’t take care of yourself”.
The first words your dad said after you checked into the hotel were “God, it would be so much easier if we had a normal kid, wouldn’t it?”
As if you didn’t have feelings. As if you weren’t a human being who could fucking hear them.
It was 4pm. Your parents didn’t come back.
6pm. Nothing.
10. No sign of them. Neither one answering their phones. Maybe they’re finally abandoning you the way they’ve threatened to for ages.
Midnight. Still nothing.
2am and you started looking again. You couldn’t find anything.
What happened?
You started to panic and could feel a full-on meltdown coming on.
You tried to be still and silent, but it proved impossible. You began to cry and cry uncontrollably, rocking and hitting your head, unable to stop. You felt like your life was ending.
Two women showed up beside you. One was older and appeared to be the manager of the hotel, the other was a bit younger, with crimped blond hair and heavy makeup. You barely noticed either of them, however.
The older one touched your back and you screamed. You hated when people touched your back.
“Hey, do you want to take my hand, honey? It’ll be alright, I promise.” said the blonde woman. You obeyed her.
“Wh-Who are you? Where are my parents? Do you know?”
“Your parents... died. I’m sorry you had to find out this way. It was The Countess..” said the older woman.
You couldn’t speak, but you had about a billion questions for the two women. For example, Who the fuck is The Countess?
“You don’t need to speak. Just breathe, okay? In and out, good. Good girl. I’m Sally, by the way. This is Iris. You’re gonna be okay, I promise. I’m not gonna let anyone hurt you.”
You waved, not knowing what to do, completely overwhelmed.
“You know what, it’s late. I’m gonna take her back to my room and have her rest. We’ll deal with the rest of this shit tomorrow when she can talk and isn’t so clearly exhausted,” said Sally.
“I-I.....can..... talk. It’s...okay.” you said, each word making you more spaced out and tired.
“No. You’ve been through too much. I’m taking you up to my room and you’re gonna rest. You don’t have to speak or do anything you don’t want to do.”
You followed Sally, so scared and tired and in need of some damn sleep.
“You’re safe with me. I promise. Here’s, um, the bed. Get some sleep. I’ll be right here if you need anything. The Countess doesn’t want to hurt you either, I think she wanted to- it doesn’t matter now.”
“Who is... The C-Countess?”
“It’s a long story and you likely won’t believe me until you meet her. But it’s alright, you’re safe. I’ll protect you. Can I come over there and hold you?”
You nodded. Sally got on her bed next to you and put an arm around you. You winced as she touched your upper back.
“You don’t like when people touch you there, do you?”
You shook your head no, and she put your arms around your waist instead.
“Thank you.”
“Hey, I understand.”
Sally made you feel more comfortable speaking and you said,
“My parents didn’t understand that. They used to touch me there as much as they could, just to upset me. They laughed at me trying to keep my wet hair off my back when I took a shower. They thought it was funny.”
“What does that feel like to you?”
“I don’t know. It doesn’t, like, hurt, but it’s terrible, it makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.”
“Aw, honey...”
“It’s dumb, I’m sorry I’m so sensitive.”
“Hey, no, don’t apologize. You know, you remind me of my baby sister. I loved that girl so much when we were growin’ up. I practically raised her. So God only knows how she turned out as good as she did. Our parents were terrible, they were never there. She was the only one who stayed with me. Until she didn’t.”
“What happened to her?”
“It was all my fault, really. I put her in danger. I sold drugs in the 90s, and I started using when we were living together. She was in school, and I had to find her somewhere safer to live. So I did. She’s okay, very successful actually, and she’s still alive. I’m the one who died young. I miss her.”
“You... died? What? I’m sorry, you-”
“Yes. I’m a ghost, The Countess is a vampire, I think Iris might also be a vampire now too? I don’t know. I know you think I’m crazy now but trust me.”
Sally saw your look of disbelief, then held out her hand and said, “Watch.”
As she spoke her fingers began to disappear and reappear.
“What-”
“I’m a ghost. I can alter the way I’m seen by others, if I want to. I’m surprised other ghosts don’t do it more often really. One time I scared some kid by making all my teeth fall out. It was awesome. I didn’t wanna scare you though. I like you.”
“Thanks?”
“Sorry, I-”
“No, it’s- um, how did you die?”
“Iris fuckin’ pushed me out the window.”
“Wow.”
“Yeah.”
“What was your sister like?”
“She was the best. Sweet, talented, sensitive. But people didn’t understand her. I did, though. At least best I could. We only had each other. Our parents didn’t care, the kids at school bullied her relentlessly. I had to protect her. She sometimes had meltdowns like the one you had earlier too-”
“I’m sorry-”
“No! It’s not your fault! You were terrified. Anyone would be. It was pretty intense though, I was worried.”
“Was your sister autistic like me?”
“She was. We didn’t know for sure until after she stopped living with me, but we both kinda knew.”
“Oh.”
“Anyway, it’s almost four in the morning, you really gotta get some sleep. Come here.”
You did, and you fell asleep in Sally’s arms.
When you woke up, Sally was still there, as well as another woman, blonde and glamorous. They were arguing.
“What do I do then if you don’t want me to turn her? Kill her-”
“Please don’t hurt her, I can- she-”
Sally noticed you were awake, and saw your scared face.
“It’s okay, no one’s gonna hurt you. I’ll protect you.”
The blonde woman who you assumed was The Countess approached you.
“Do you have anywhere to go?”
You shook your head no. Sally spoke up for you, intuiting that you must be stressed.
“She can stay with me. I’ll make sure she’s safe. She won’t bother you or anything. She’s sweet and quiet and-”
“Sally, it’s okay. You want her, you keep her.” said The Countess.
“Alright. Thanks. Can you get out of my room now? You’re freaking her out.”
She left without saying a word.
“I’m sorry about that, (y/n). You’re safe here. You can stay as long as you need to. I’ll be here. This is a dangerous place but I’ll make sure you’re safe, alright?”
“Okay.”
You still felt sad. Not about staying with Sally, you liked her, but about the way The Countess talked about you. The way your parents talked about you.
“Hey. I just want you to know that I don’t see you as some kind of pet or anything. I know that’s what you’re thinking, that’s how people treated my sister sometimes too. It was awful. No, I just want- I just want you to be okay. I want someone to spend time with. it’s awful lonely being a ghost, but I thought maybe if-”
“I understand, Sally. I like you a lot, and I want to stay here. It’s just sad the way most people see me.”
“It isn’t your fault, you know. I need you to know that.”
“I do. You make it easier to feel okay because you’re so nice to me.”
“I’m glad. You deserve to feel good all the time.”
You started to tear up a bit. No one had ever said that to you before. You were always expected to make yourself uncomfortable, speak when you didn’t want to, shut up when you wanted to talk, wear clothes that pinched, let people touch you when it made your skin crawl, and you were still made fun of because still, somehow, none of it was enough. But with Sally you didn’t have to do any of that, and yet you still felt loved by her in a way that you never have been before.
“Aw, hey, don’t cry. You’ll be okay. I’m gonna make sure of it. I can’t actually leave the hotel, but I can make sure you get everything you need. Are you a picky eater by any chance?”
“A little bit, but not as much as I used to be.”
“Alright. And you’re good on clothes?”
“I think so.”
“Good. I’ve gotta say, I’m excited. It’s been so long since I’ve felt a real connection to anyone here.”
“You really feel a connection with me?”
“Yes, honey, I do. Do you.... feel the same way?” Sally asked you. She said it as if she was worried you may say no.
“I do, Sally. I really do. I know how it feels to be lonely like you are. It’s how I’ve felt my whole life. Maybe... I...”
“Maybe you’ll learn to love it here. Once you’re comfortable I’ll introduce you to the other ghosts. They’re annoying, but we’re still a family or whatever it is they call it. They’ll like you. I promise.”
You spent the rest of the day in Sally’s room with her, barely talking, not really even needing to talk. She was the one who broke the silence by telling you
“I like this. Just being here.”
“Me too.”
“I want to kiss you. Can I?”
“Yes.”
You had never been kissed before, but you let Sally be your first. You felt so... loved by her as she kissed you and held you lightly by your waist.
You stayed in the hotel with Sally, and it quickly felt more like home than anywhere else you’ve ever lived. You became a part of the family, and you and Sally fell deeper in love. Sally protected you, knowing the dangers of the hotel, and made sure you felt okay. Your meltdowns became far less frequent as you were no longer being forced to be someone you weren’t.

Autistic max? I’m all in -🦖
yes!! Max being on the spectrum is one of my favorite headcanons! Here’s a bit of my thoughts and hcs for you anon! <3
okay so first i wanna talk a little about where this hc came from! this idea was born in my head for a multitude of reasons, but the general summary is this:
-she misses a lot of social+emotional cues! she didn’t pick up on just how annoyed Mike was with her in the gym and kept pushing until El intervened, she didn’t detect any of Lucas’ panic or frustration when he was explaining the upside down to her until he touches her, and when el is jealous and just not interested in meeting her, she seems to be completely unfazed by that until she walks away. also every scene she has with Billy, he’s very shut off and she seems to be confused about what she’s expected to say, missing that he’s angry until he’s lashing out, and idk to me it just seems like she doesn’t really have a grasp on understanding others’ emotions!
-similarly, she only seems to react in the face of immediate danger, as if she’s a lot of the time unaware of how bad things truly are around her. like when she’s helping to find dart without even knowing what’s going on, driving a whole muscle car and going down into the tunnels without a hint of fear, seeming barely concerned when the mindflayer was about to drop through the ceiling. it’s almost like she has trouble fully processing the consequences of certain things, which could also explain why she sneaks out even though she probably knows what Neil is like and the fact that it could potentially put her in danger.
-the way she dresses just screams tactile sensitivity! she doesn’t ever wear anything flowy, any scratchy materials, and even at the snowball, where we see Susan fussing over her, she’s still dressed for comfort. what young girl with a mother clearly interested in making her pretty is going to get away with wearing jeans to a school dance if she doesn’t have sensory issues?
-also, whenever she gets upset she seems to shut down. like she almost never talks to Billy after he yells at her unless it’s necessary, when her and Lucas are talking on top of the bus it definitely seems like she’s struggling to voice her feelings or put words to her emotions, when Billy’s in the sauna, after he’s activated she starts turning in on herself, and after his death she’s just sitting in his room. like maybe she doesn’t really understand her own emotions that well either.
I’m not really viewing any of this as like, solid evidence or anything btw, these are just some things I’ve noticed about her as an autistic girl her age and living in a very similar situation that I think are neat and relatable!
onto the stuff I literally made up because I love her!
-Susan gives me autism mommy vibes. Like, making it her identity that she has a child with autism, and at times that can get super frustrating for Max because she hates being her mom’s little trophy daughter, gossiped about at all the potlucks so people feel sorry for her. Her absolute least favorite thing is “She’s such a handful.” and when Susan pulls the I’m so lonely because of taking care of you card to make her feel bad. Especially because she doesn’t feel very taken care of, once she’d hit a certain age her mother decided she’d be alright without all that “kid stuff” and basically tossed her into the world on her on. (hence why she’s Billys responsibility)
-In the 80s (and still now if we’re being entirely honest) it was very normal to just throw a casual r slur into conversation and it kills Max every time her friends say it, especially Mike because she thinks he’s being mean and doesn’t like her. She doesn’t know how to explain to them that that hurts her feelings because she doesn’t even know how to bring it up that she’s autistic. Billy tells her once to try to cheer her up that he could beat them up for her but she cries even harder because that’s what she doesn’t want, is for them to think she’s overreacting. He feels bad and tries to make up for it bringing it up with some of the moms of the group and asking that they tell their kids to stop using that word ever.
-In California she was in special ed classes, but Hawkins Middle deems that not necessary for someone of her “functioning level” (yuck) and she gets landed in coed instead. It might’ve been alright if that was how she started her education, but she was already used to classes of four or five kids like her, and she just cannot learn in that new environment. So she does really, really bad in school her first year in Hawkins. She feels kind of self conscious around her friends because they’re all so smart and her grades make her feel stupid even though it’s not her fault, and that’s why she kinda drifts towards being close with El because she struggles with learning things too.
-Smells are probably her worst overstimulation triggers. Things like cigarette smoke, fresh brewed coffee, her moms perfume, cooking and baking smells, the automatic air freshener thing, candles. Pretty much anything stronger than the smell of water is just overwhelming for her, especially if there’s something else already working her up, because then a whiff of something too strong can put her straight into a meltdown. Billy decides to quit smoking for her (he’ll never admit that, he’s adamant that it was because it was messing with his lung capacity and he’s trying to work out) and he also does things like buy Susan a new, less offensive perfume for her birthday and open windows to get stuffy air out of the house. They never really talk about what that does for her but like, that’s part of how they start getting closer, is when he starts making little accommodations for her like that.
-In addition to smells, there are very specific sounds she can’t stand. It’s not all loud noises, some of them like the rev of Billy’s car or a bass guitar at an outdoor amphitheater are some of her favorites, but the ones she doesn’t like, she really hates. Things like styrofoam, dishes hitting off of each other, something scratching against ice that builds up in the freezer, TV static, the toaster popping up or the oven beeping, and people who can’t chew with their mouths closed (looking at you Billy, keep that gum in your mouth please) all make her feel gross. She’ll try to physically shake off the way those sounds make her feel but sometimes they’re just too much and she shuts down for a while until she gets to hear something else. In that case usually really quiet music or someone talking to her quietly can reel her back in.
-Her interests vary a lot! The longest she’s ever held one special interest was a Miss Piggy phase! Susan liked that she was showing interest in a feminine character because of a lot of her si’s were tomboyish, but Max liked Piggy because she knew karate and punched people who laughed at her or tried to make her feel bad about herself! She has all sorts of Piggy collectibles, like toys, bed sheets, posters, books, mugs and watches! Otherwise her interests and fixations tend to come and go pretty quickly, like one week she could want to know everything there is to know about pro skaters, and the next she’s into the history of circuses! She liked cars for a little while and Billy was really excited to indulge in that and let her get familiar with the camaro, but she shifted to video games pretty soon after and he had to let it drop.
-Another interest that’s also pretty constant for her is nature! Not only for the sensory experience of it, listening to leaves rustle and birds chirp and water rush, but also all the knowledge about it. She can identify any type of flower, grass, tree, critter, or fungus! When she’s melting down and needs to be away from the house, she asks Billy to take her to the state park so she can just sit and be quiet and calm down on a fallen tree or a swing set somewhere. They do have some woods behind their house but she’s too afraid to venture out there and prefers to be out with her brother anyways.
-Stims! She’ll fiddle with zippers and buttons and loose threads constantly to the point that they buy her three or four of the same jackets and shirts for when she inevitably breaks them. She also chews on sleeves and hoodie strings a lot. Other tactile stims she favors are string tricks and braiding and tieing knots! Braiding her and Billy’s hair is something she’ll do anytime she needs to feel grounded, and she has a whole bunch of those little wooden boards that kids use to learn how to tie their shoes to tie knots with. She also always has a pocketful of yarn, and her favorite thing to make with them is a spider web or a star!
-Sort of related to her fascination with string is that her shoelaces never ever match, she has like a whole drawer in her room full of different ones to change them out! (and she has Miss Piggy Bow Biters to put on them!)
-She’s also a very verbal stimmer at times! Giggles for days with Max, if she’s excited, happy, nervous, whatever, she’s giggling. Humming and mimicking too, like if she hears a sound she likes she’ll try to make it, whether it be part of a song or something she hears outside. But if she is sad she’ll get as quiet as a mouse.
Idk these are just like my sort of canon compliant hcs I guess? Like what I feel would be true for her in the timeline and storyline of the show!

I didn't know you could just be a boy
I was listening to a podcast today, about a girl who stood up to her parents at the tender age of four and told them that she was a girl and that she'd chosen a name. I'm in awe of this little girl being so damn sure of herself. I got super emotional listening to it and it got me thinking about my own childhood. It was NPR’s radio ambulante, the episode called “yo nena”.
I knew I was different from a young age but I didnt know how.
I just felt it. And probably cause I visited a lot of doctors and i guess most kids don't do that?
I learned that my brain was different but not the details. I had some vague notion of being adhd. I would not learn it until much later by googling different developmental disorders and learning about being neurodivergent and autistic.
I would later on go on to learn I was queer too, and though I had read the word genderqueer once and thought it fit, I hadn't given it much thought.
I was assigned female at birth, and though I have never liked it, I thought I was stuck with it, that I just had to make the best of it.
I remember wishing to be a boy so many times. Identifiying with male characters, creating ocs and alter-egos, acting the male parts (it was an all-girls school, someone had to), and begging mum to let me cut my hair short, and being so happy when people thought I was a boy.
I never liked traditionally female things, never had a barbie, hated dresses (there's still a photo of a tiny grumpy me being forced into a dress one of my grandmas gave me) and my school uniform was trousers 99% of the time. The other 1% was like official acts, maybe the first and last day of school, stuff like that. I hated it, but at an all-girls catholic school I had much biggers issues that complaining about wearing a skirt a few days out of the year. I remember the gym uniform being a problem. Not sure what the problem was. Something about tights maybe?
I never felt like a girl. But it wasn't something I could properly explain so when I tried to talk about it, with my parents or friends what they usually got out of it was the usual self-steem issues of any girl. Mum tried to help by helping me choose new clothes, telling me how good I looked. And trying to get me to be more feminine, teaching me about 'girly stuff',
But that wasn't it. I understand it better now .
See, it's not that I have self-steem issues about my appearance. I know I'm conventionally good
looking. And if I gave 1/10 of a fuck I can be a very hot girl. I have photos of pasts attempts to prove it. But it never felt right. It never felt like me.
I can put on a bikini and I'm young, thin, fit, I'll look good. But that doesn't mean I'll like what I see in the mirror. I don't feel uncomfortable because I think the person in the mirror looks bad but because I don't know who that is.
I feel exposed. Vulnerable. Bikinis are uncomfortable by design, meant to exploit feminine bodies and for someone who's already uncomfortable having one? A bloody nightmare.
And there's a lot of understand. Why the hell am I being punished for the crime of having a female body by being constantly uncomfortable ? Why are clothes so terrible? Why is so hard to find something basic and decent? Why are bras the worst?? On and on and on. questions I never got the answer to. So much confusion about girl stuff that every other girl i knew seemed capable of navigating.
For a long time I blamed it on me being weird (ie, neurodivergent)
Like, all my friends started caring about boys, parties, romance, alcohol and drugs.
I'd always struggle in school and one year I got literally left behind.
I struggled with depression. I tried hard to fit in and be like them. I tried to be normal, followed their strange rituals. I let my hair grow out, i went on dates with boys, I drank too much and made out with strangers. I got into trouble. I wore a dress to my graduation and invited a boy I'd been talking to.
It was one of the few times I wore a dress voluntarily. Another one was a christmas dinner. And a new year's party. I also wore a skirt to dress up as kate bishop. That's about all I recall. I did buy a dress to cosplay clara oswald but never did it.
I wonder, what if I had told my parents I was a boy and I wanted to be treated like one before? How would they have reacted ?
Laughed it off probably. As they did when I pretended to be a boy for a game as I often did.
I can't imagine them taking it seriously, even now.
I don't know when I found out trans people existed, or who was the first one I heard about.
But I do know I thought it meant you like hated your body or yourself and wanted to be totally different.
And that didnt fit me. I had never hated myself. I hated how the world treated me. I hated arbitrary rules based on gender.
My scout group was mixed-gender, but we were divided in troops and these were single-gender and divided by age.
But we all learned the same things. Whether it was building a fire, tracking, or cooking, we got the same lessons. Sometimes we competed and we slept/bathed separately.
In TECHO it was all mixed-gender. Well, except bathing, but often we'd shared the same bathroom. We slept, cooked, and worked together.
And nobody ever looked down on girls as 'the weaker sex'
That was cool.
My actual education was the opposite. Academically, it is better for a school to be all-girls, at least for girls. But socially, not so much.
As a teenager, I hadn't quite forgotten how much I wanted to be a boy as a kid, but idk I thought I had left it behind me. That what I craved was freedom, independence, the benefits of being a boy, not actually being one.
Later I would discover terms like 'internalized misogyny' and think that was the problem. Cause I liked Lucy and Arya, not Susan and Sansa.
Yet here I stand, years later. Having done a lot  of work. Recognising the value of Susan and Sansa. Appreciating Peggy Carter, in a gay and feminist way, and still not wanting to be a girl.
It just doesn't fit me. It's not a rejection.
I'm a feminist. I think women are great.
I understand there are many ways to be one.
That I don't have to be feminine to be one.
And yet, it just doesn't feel right.
After I learned of what 'gender dysphoria' was I though, 'oh I can't be trans I don't have that'
And then, I learned about 'gender euphoria'
And that finally opened my eyes
Trying to be a girl always felt like an ill-fitting costume, no matter how hard I tried. Like I was playing a part and didn't know my lines.
I remember cutting my hair short, like kstew, and going WOW upon seeing my reflection.. I looked more like myself than I had in ages.
I bought different clothes. Boy's clothes. I'm too small for men's clothes but I can fit just fine in clothes meant for 12 years old boys.
I cut my hair, put on new clothes, bought tight sport bras, and when I looked in the mirror, I wasn't sure who the person staring back was but I really liked how he looked.
My parents, for ages, tried to get me to 'dress nicer' to 'act like a lady' and so on. I cared enough to shower and put on clean clothes. I bought a lot of nerdy shirts which I at least liked. Did some experiments. Occasionally I'd make an effort but otherwise I was pretty basic. Loose-fitting jeans and hoodies.
Family kept gifting me nicer girly things I'd wear once and often ignored later.
It wasn't till I gave myself permission to truly dress how I wanted, and yes to shop in the boy's/men's section that I started to actually care about how I looked and putting more effort in.
I never thought I could be a boy, because I didn't know that was a thing you could do.
if I had been like that little girl and said 'i'm a boy' I think they'd havebeen at a total loss.
would they have asked my shrink? What would he have said?? It felt as though they were always on my case to be more lady-like but I know that's unfair. They were generally pretty okay with me being a tomboy, at least until puberty. And even then it was never that huge a thing. More of a constant annoying issue. There were many more pressing ones.
It's 2019, and I bet most parents would still be at a loss. There's not exactly a lot of rep or info.
I'm a lot happier with how I look now, but I still haven't found the right words to explain myself to my parents. I know I have to eventually, I want to stop hiding, to be visible, to change my name.

NearlyMellodraMattic headcanons
I'm obsessed with these three lads so I felt like compiling some of my headcanons!!
Near:
- He has minor amnesia and doesn't remember anything before entering Wammy's House when he was around five. Nothing. This amnesia might be the result of him coping with a traumatic event in his past, but even he doesn't know.
- He's easily grossed out. Not by any traditional sense tho, mostly by things that trigger sensory issues (touching dirt, for example).
- On that note he has really bad trypophobia. Like, it can make him sick.
- He loses like ALL reasoning ability when he's around Matt. Like, stupid shit he'd normally not do he'd do with Matt. Matt's one of the few people that can bring out Near's silly side (and also one of the VERY FEW people that can manage to make him laugh!!)
- this ones practically canon but Near is autistic. Thankfully due to Wammy's specialized education he's better at managing it, but he still can't work without some assistance. He has sensory issues, bad at conveying and processing emotions, stims, hyperfixates, doesn't know jack about social cues, etc.
- In relation to that, he HATES thunderstorms. The sudden loud and bright noises/flashes and the general "impending doom" feeling they give him freaks him out. He tries not to show it, though.
- Him and Matt could VS in Tetris for HOURS. There's a 50/50 chance either will win.
- Near suffers from depression and existential crises. It got ESPECIALLY bad after the Kira case once Mello and Matt were gone. (Suicidal thoughts were not uncommon, although he never acted on any of them or planned to.)
- Matt introduced him to online gaming. Near has been playing Webkinz ever since.
- Near is probably really perverted. Won't give any indication of it, however.
- He likes wearing overly large pajamas so he can do the Sleeve Flap Thingy.
- Obsessed with early 90s CGI box art for like computer games and shit. He just loves it.
- He has poor as shit health and multiple vitamin deficiencies and chronic illnesses.
Mello:
- Before coming to Wammy's House, he grew up in a poor urban area with a physically abusive father. He'd go to the public library or steal books when he could, as he had a fascination with learning. Due to this upbringing, however, he has a very strong "fight to survive" mentality: always pushing himself beyond his limits as if his life depended on it and being very, very agressive with others.
- He has minor ADHD.
- Also due to his mental state and nature, he has a really hard time showing that he loves or cares about others, which can lead to him losing them down the line.
- (He almost cried when Matt admitted he thought Mello hated him.)
- He's, what we in the industry call, pansexual.
- He's always eating chocolate because a) the snap is satisfying and calms him down, b) sugar = energy, c) cuz chocolate is fuckin' good.
- His favorite subject is science and philosophy.
- He's actually a really good singer!! He can do a lot of different pitches (him and Matt have def had a drunk karaoke night).
- He's not necessarily religious, and if you asked if he was he'd say "no", but whenever he's scared or feels hopeless he'll clutch the cross on his necklace and pray. (He did this when he knew he was about to die, and recited some prayers under his breath).
- While he doesn't tell people, Mello is actually an amazing artist. Painting, mostly. (He doesn't do it often though. He thinks it's girly smh.)
- Speaks fluent English, Japanese, and German. He may also have German ancestry.
Matt:
- WEALTH OF GAMER KNOWLEDGE. Literally ask him anything that has to relate to video games, he'll know the answer.
- He actually has the compacity to become the smartest Wammy's Kid, even above Near. He wasn't born a genius like Near was, but he could definitely reach a higher level than Near. He just lacks the passion or drive someone like Mello has to actually do better.
- He has really, really terrible anxiety. Video games help him escape reality and shut his mind away from the world, and smoking helps calm his nerves. When he gets panic attacks, it's not uncommon he's unable to speak during them or that he might pass out.
- He enjoys petting Near's hair (when Near lets him); he named a Mareep after Near.
- He also has a psychic-like connection with Near?? Like, they can just look at each other and instantly know what the other is thinking. This makes them a scary duo in Smash Bros. tag team.
- Desite Mello being a bit of an ass, he considers him his best friend. He just finds everything about Mello endearing and fun, even if he can get a bit pushy or annoying at times.
- Though, he often wonders if Mello actually cares about him as a friend, or just hates him. It's the Anxiety™
- Despite how laid back and goofy he is, he's quite introverted and barely talks to people. Usually Mello has to be the one to drag him outside.
- CONSTANTLY forgets or foregoes words and replaces them with nonsense. One time he interrupted L talking about his life as Hideki Ryuga, "...so since my bookbag was heavy and I had to lift my arms up, my shoulders-" "oh, so your shoulders are gayass now?" Matt finishes for him without thinking. Of course he means his shoulders are sore now, and Mello and Near know this and don't even question it or bat an eye, but L just stops and has to think about it for like a minute.
- Doesn't actually want to be L's sucessor. Was kind of forced here because he was Smart.
- For personal reasons, he doesn't like nor celebrate his birthday. Nobody in Wammy's knows his real birthdate except for himself. Everyone else just decided to celebrate his birthday on March 10.
- Has the attention span of a fly. You have to basically strap him to a chair to get him to pay attention to something he finds boring.
- When his anxiety acts up he will aplogize for every little thing. For laughing, for stuttering, for coughing—and especially for crying. Mello as a young child said Matt's crying was annoying, so it's something he's internalized (unbeknownst to Mello).

This is what I do instead of sleep
So! A while ago, @starbucks-remy sent me an ask that just said “hot take: tamakyo.” Thus, this post is born. It got so long I put it under the cut. You’re welcome, Starbucks-Remy. Enjoy.
Headcanons
Tamaki is a dog person. Kyoya is a cat person. They’ve gotten into so many arguments about which one is better that they’ve lost count.
When Kyoya really wants something or is feeling particularly evil, he’ll call Tamaki a pet name in French. It’s more effective than the puppy dog eyes.
Kyoya is gay. Tamaki knows this. Kyoya knows that he knows. They do not discuss it. Ever. (almost.) //side note, if anyone wants me to write that incident out, I will//
You’d think Kyoya would be the one nagging Tamaki about self-care, but in reality it’s the other way around. Kyoya will go for days without sleep or food if Tamaki isn’t there to remind him.
Tamaki once made Kyoya take a Harry Potter house quiz with him, and Kyoya still hasn’t lived down his Hufflepuff result (Tamaki was a Gryffindor, of course).
Kyoya is an artist. He spends all day drawing in the elusive black book. At least a third of the drawings are of Tamaki.
Tamaki is autistic. Kyoya knows exactly what to do when he’s overstimulated or on the verge of a meltdown.
They know each other’s favourite songs as well as their own.
Fuyumi absolutely thinks that Kyoya and Tamaki would be a great couple. Of course she knows that Kyoya is gay, she doesn’t care, she just wants her baby brother to be happy.
Tamaki is the only person allowed to see Kyoya when he’s sick.
Kyoya has chronic headaches. Tamaki takes care of him when it’s bad. They’ve had a routine down for years.
Kyoya is always warm, while Tamaki runs cold. They’re holding hands because the other is a nice temperature, that’s all.
Kyoya is red-green colour blind.
Tamaki is the one who has to kill spiders because Kyoya is deathly afraid of them. It’s one of his best kept secrets. //Again, if you want me to write about Tamaki learning this interesting fact, let me know//
ADHD Kyoya
Kyoya who doodles and writes little notes to himself in his notebook all day because it keeps him from getting bored
Kyoya who’s always moving subtly in some way, nothing obvious, but tapping his foot or drumming his fingers on the table
Kyoya who has a lot of various stim toys and is always carrying at least one with him (he initially started keeping them around for Tamaki, but then found that they help him too)
Kyoya who prefers to stay in the music room or classroom during lunch because the cafeteria is Too Much
Kyoya who always has to be doing something or else he’s dying of boredom
Kyoya who’s not great at taking care of himself, he just forgets most of the time. Tamaki is there to remind him
Kyoya with at least five weighted blankets
Kyoya who takes a long time to do homework because it’s hard to focus on for more than 30 minutes at a time
Alternatively, Kyoya who sometimes hyperfocuses on homework because it’s a subject he’s interested in and good at
Kyoya who knows an alarming amount of facts no one will ever need
Kyoya who’s really sensitive to different smells, some are nice but others must be avoided at all costs
Kyoya who feels like he talks about his special interests too much but Tamaki is always willing to listen (and Kyoya is always willing to listen to Tamaki as well)
Kyoya who doesn’t eat nearly enough because his meds kill his appetite
Kyoya who is very unorganised and would be a complete disaster without maids to help clean up
Kyoya who loses things constantly, all the time, for about six months on average
Kyoya with RSD
Kyoya who’s comically bad at time management
Kyoya who gets sensory overload and listens to Tamaki play the piano to cope
Autistic Tamaki
Tamaki whose special interest was Japan/Japanese culture for years
Tamaki who sometimes sits and plays random notes or nonsensical tunes on the piano as a stim
Tamaki with echolalia
Tamaki who’s hyperempathetic, but who also couldn’t read the room to save his life
Tamaki who has a hard time understanding boundaries sometimes
Tamaki who always needs to double check that the costume he’s wearing has no tags (they never do. Kyoya’s in charge of that stuff and things relating to Tamaki are the only things he’ll never forget)
Tamaki who can’t remember names or faces and it stresses him out, he cares, really, he just doesn’t know why you’re acting like you know him
Tamaki who stims almost constantly in various ways
Tamaki who would eat the same thing for every meal if Kyoya wasn’t there to stop him
Autistic Tamaki who helps Kyoya with his ADHD, and vice versa
Playlist currently in progress
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAI_I9Mp-NCVP0L94pRj2RMUWOWpU3Tby
Small blurb warnings: alcohol abuse, implied sexual assault, dysfunctional family, character death
Kyoya’s mom never wanted him. They already had three kids and she had hoped that’d be all, but maybe one night Yoshio had a little too much to drink and well, Mrs Ohtori really didn’t have much say in the matter. When she finds out she’s pregnant she tries to be happy, but she’s just not, because she never wanted another baby in the first place and it’s a constant reminder of what Mr Ohtori did. Eventually she ends up dying in childbirth, and the family is torn apart. Fuyumi tries to take on her mother’s role. Yuiichi throws himself into his work. Mr Ohtori becomes even more cold and distant. Akito blames Kyoya for their mother’s death. It’s a bit part of why he’s so hostile towards his youngest brother. And Kyoya? Kyoya knows the whole story. He’s always been a natural observer, and some rather gossipy maids clued him in at a young age. Part of the reason he works so hard is to prove that he’s more than just the unwanted child who drove his family apart, and to make his mother proud. She gave up everything for  him, a baby that she never wanted or got to know, and he can’t let that be in vain. So yeah. Kyoya’s mom never wanted him. But it’s okay. After all, until he met Tamaki, nobody else did either.

I'm writing my first Ruben fic! Can I know some of your hcs for Ruben? and is it alright to borrow some?
of course! here’s just the ones that make up the core of what i consider my ruben characterisation, use whichever ones you want.
- he’s autistic, and sometimes especially when he’s very stressed/tired he goes non-verbal and communicates either via writing stuff down on his phone or sort of half-sign language. like it’s not proper ASL but he’ll mime more obvious things.
- ptsd probably goes without saying. his biggest triggers are unexpected touches, people calling him “rubes” or other variations on his first name, planes/anything airport related, men who are bigger than him standing too close, a specific kind of jazz music (that’s what was playing in the car when ian drove them out from the airport), sitting in the backseat of a car, and feeling pressured into doing things. has frequent nightmares.
- literally a genius. went to college at fifteen, got his phd by 22. will win a nobel prize one day.
- LOVES PLANTS. PLANT BOY ALL NATURE ALL THE TIME pets would not work around his schedule when he’s at IMH and post-jamaica they’re more responsibility than he can deal with (plus he has allergies), but he doesn’t mind because to him his plants are his pets. he sings them little songs when he’s watering them to help them grow. taking care of them helps him feel like he’s doing something good, like even if he’s struggling to look after himself he’s keeping something alive.
- he bakes a lot when he’s stressed. it’s basically just lab work but the stakes are significantly lower and at the end he has cake.
- his food preferences are either “intensely bland plain toast level” or “enough spice to make satan’s eyes water”. there is no in between setting.
- his dad is a fuckin deadbeat who ditched when he was seven. ruben barely remembers him other than that he was a dick, but it had way more impact on ruben and his need for validation/for people to think he’s useful than he’s actually aware of. he is a total mama’s boy but still often prone to hiding things from her, he doesn’t want to worry/upset her so often he doesn’t tell her things.
- his younger sisters are his half-sisters (different dad to him, they’re full sisters to each other). he is an extremely kind big brother, there’s a fairly big age gap  (i have paola as about ten years younger than him and mercedes about thirteen years) so he never really got into fights with them. they both adore him.
- favourite animal is seals. probably was a seal in another life. is definitely a seal in a parallel fic universe.
- he can have a really dry, dark sense of humour, especially round the few people he’s comfortable with. dark in the sense of it being turned towards himself - he doesn’t make fun of other people’s problems but will make jokes about his own terrible experiences that make everyone else wince. it’s a coping mechanism. also loves a stupid pun. that one’s not a coping mechanism, just him.
- he is the most patient human being alive. he can have some sass about it sometimes, if the other person deserves it (god knows he made sarcastic comments at jason/ian enough in the show, not that it had much impact on them), but if someone’s struggling or if it’s a young kid he can sit and explain something over and over and keep trying to find a way that will allow them to understand it.
- he doesn’t drink very often but when he does he likes stupid cocktails with ridiculous umbrellas. smokes weed very occasionally.
- loves comfy clothes. changes out of jeans and into soft sweatpants as soon as possible on getting home from work. wears colourful stripy socks and boxer-briefs with fun patterns on them. has the biggest collection of sweaters in varying shades of dark blue that you’ll ever see.
- he is soft and squishy in terms of body type, v good pillow, and when his hair grows out a little it is entirely a mess of cowlicks so he wakes up in the morning he always looks like he’s been electrocuted. always smells like coconut oil because he uses it to try and minimize some of the scars and also to keep his beard soft.
- despite all evidence to the contrary, genuinely doesn’t believe he’s a very good person. tries his best to be anyway. just desperately wants to be loved.

Tell me about the lovelies in broken thrones!
i have many of them!!
there’s the Braddocks, one of the main families in the wip! Adair is the king of Issera, a horrible and abusive king. Ianthe is Adair’s wife and a very sweet woman who was forced into the marriage.
Amary Braddock is the eldest of the children. her twin brother died when she was sixteen and she became a drunken mess soon after. known as the ‘Bloodhound of Feria’, she has been working to track down all those who were involved with her twin’s murder. her hands are soaked in blood and she keeps a sash with lines for every life she has taken. she feels responsible for her younger sisters and wants to protect them. the shortest of her siblings, but a force to be reckoned with. she has her father’s anger and she isn’t sure how she feels about it.
Eira Braddock is the middle daughter. she’s autistic. her days are spent bee keeping, collecting shiny rocks, tinkering with clocks, doing other little crafts, occasionally wandering the gardens with Rosar, or she goes to the library in town to spend time with her best friend crush Lumi and her cat Leaf!! she’s a sweet girl, but she worries. she hates the violence that Amary is involved in, she actually hates violence in general and wants to make peace for the land. her plan as princess is to make things peaceful for everyone!
Rosar Braddock is the youngest daughter. blind and kind, she’s an absolute sweetheart. she spends her days in the gardens, wandering around, trying to avoid her father’s wrath. in the beginning, she was his favorite, but when it was discovered that she was blind, she fell all the way to the bottom and became his punching bag. according to him, she can never do anything right. however, she stays kind. it’s her worst nightmare to become cruel and angry like him. she’s a Seer and there’s an ancient voice in her head that is her only friend besides Finlos and her sisters.
other Ferians!!
Finlos is a knight of the royal guard and Rosar’s best friend. he has a smile that can kill and a past that almost killed him. he’s been through pain, suffering, and a broken heart. still, he’s the captain of the royal guard and he stays strong for his soldiers and for Rosar. he doesn’t speak of his past, but it’s not uncommon to see him in town when he isn’t on duty, passing out money and food to the poor and needy.
Barrow Reeves is Amary’s fiance, legally and according to the king. he’s a marquess and information dealer. a kind young man who feels like he’s transparent to all. he falls in love with just about everyone he comes across. his left eye is brown the right is blue.
Marigold Reeves is Barrow’s younger sister and a spitfire. she works with him in the information dealing. a silvertongue and bright and bubbly young woman. she fell in love with Amary when they were kids. they shared a kiss, once, and then years later got her heart broken.
Lumi Rosewood is a librarian and the daughter of librarians. her best friends are her pet cat Leaf (who is the size of a lynx but acts like a housecat) and Princess Eira. she works in the library most of the time, but also takes care of the garden outside their home, and paints things she loves. she has nature magic!!
The Keeper resides in the Dark Forests of Feria and guards them and the creatures within them. a shadow creature who was once human but had that form ripped away from him at a young age but still takes the appearance of a boy with shaggy hair and soft brown eyes.
Cintu is the leader of the Shadow Wolves in the Dark Forests. he took the Keeper in as his own pup and raised him as best he could. he’s six feet tall at the shoulder and is a shadowy figure with glowing yellow eyes. a good leader and dad.
now for the Isserans!!
Jayah is the former queen of Issera. she has an insatiable need for power and will do anything to attain it, even if it means killing her son, which is definitely on her list of things to do. even though she grew up in a good home with good parents, she came out cruel and greedy.
Athum is the king of Issera. a man who regrets the decisions he made when he was a teenager and in his early twenties, but he doesn’t know of any other way he would’ve done things. he killed his father and overthrew his mother from the throne and banished her. he wants the fighting to end once and for all and for his people to thrive. he’s waiting for the Dragonheart, the one of legends, to come help him and his people finish this war and suffering. he has chronic pain.
Jeris is a retainer of the king and a father figure to Athum. he worked for the royal family as a horse trainer before Athum was born and took the young king in and helped him through the initial revolt against the former queen and has been at his side ever since. he has nature magic and a scar over his left eye. he was married once and has a daughter, Rialzi, who is a spitfire and holds down the fort at home with the horses.
Erihhn is a retainer of the king. he was a retainer of Athum’s father as well, but sided with Athum during the revolt. he’s a grumpy old man with a form of nature magic. he’s a very secretive man and refuses to let anyone get to know him. he has only one goal, to get back to his former position and do what he loves, but he won’t tell anyone what he used to do. grandpa-aged
Culraes is the youngest retainer of the king! he’s a brash young man who started his training at eight years old after his parents died and he lost his arm. he is after the woman who is the cause of his loss, Jayah, and he has no intention of stopping. when training, he pushes himself until he collapses. doesn’t know how to express his emotions properly.
Warin is Culraes’ adoptive father. Warin has the highest position in the desert oasis city of Aligran. he finds the wounded kids and takes them in, shows them how to use their anger to complete their goals. he definitely takes the law into his hands when needed. he’s never been married but he loves all his adoptive children more than he loves himself. fell in love with Jeris when they were teens.
Jayi is Culraes’ older adoptive sister. she’s a dragonborne and Culraes’ number one competitor. she is in charge of most of Warin’s soldiers and she commands them well. she always makes sure her soldiers are fed and tries to keep them from wasting their lives. she cut out her own eye when she was a child. she also got in a fist fight with a dragon when she was a teen.
Sazai is another adoptive child of Warin’s and she’s younger than Jayi and Culraes by a couple years. she has the appearance of a soft girl, always wearing pink and eating sweets (and anything else she can get her hands on), and she terrorizes her siblings by teasing them. however, if you present even the slightest threat to her siblings, she will rip your heart out. also, she’s the go-to torturer for Athum’s side of the war.
Tasiriti is the youngest of Warin’s adoptive children. she’s just a child (13/14) and she’s been in the midst of war before. except, she doesn’t fight. she’s a healer, but she doesn’t have the nature magic that healers usually has. she has dark magic that helps her sneak around, and she uses it when she goes out at night to heal those who need it. her hands always shake when she goes to the battlefield, but she does it because she has to heal her friends.
Lei-ya is the eldest of Warin’s adoptive children and the first one he took in. she isn’t angry, not like the three siblings in the middle, but she’s determined. she makes the plans for her siblings when they go out to battle, she can’t let them die because something wasn’t well thought out. she goes over everything multiple times before it’s allowed to be used.
then!! two dragons!!
Avei is the mother of all dragons, a grand dragon who loves humans, in fact, she has designated that the one who will take her power into them will be a human called the Dragonheart. she will make sure the land is saved from evil, no matter what.
Taedhe is the dragon Jayah makes a deal with. with poison breath and attitude he wants nothing more than to eat people, but he’s been hunted before and doesn’t wish to be hunted again, so he’s waiting for his time.
some ships:
Eira/Lumi, The Dragons (Rosar/Jayi), Desert Rose (Athum/Rosar), A/C (Amary/Culraes), Finlos/Barrow, Marigold/Amary (when they were younger)
