you already knowwww. another album review.

random thoughts:

so the thing is i didn’t have high hopes for this, bc i hated sweetener and people were saying this was like a part 2. and shitting on positions, my favorite ari album, to compare this one. so i’m like i’m gonna hate this. but i am actually so excited bc i like it. i finally have new music to be obsessed w rather than relistening to the same songs over and over.

also just bc i like the album, don’t mean i’m like a homewrecker stan. she gotta chill.

she should’ve kept the red themed cover like i get the message of the new one but it just doesn’t hit the same.

anyways bc i’m a psycopath, i listened out of order bc that’s the only way i can properly listen idk y.

also i love that there’s no musical features

anyways to the review:

intro(end of the world):

it’s a cute lil intro. my everything vibes. 6/10. probably won’t relisten to this one much. but i love how she’s being so honest on this album bc i’m a nosey ass bitch. love when ppl air out their business. more more!

bye:

modern disco viiibes. upbeat. very dancey. but also lyrically it’s very idk not melancholy but like kind of sadish i like that. 7/10. the song is really not my personal taste but it’s really good still.

don’t wanna break up again:

naur he turned up the tv when he heard her crying throw that man in the trash!!! i like this one. i like the melody and lyrics and the chorus is my favorite part of the song. i wish the production was a little more melodic. it only does it for me during the chorus tbh. but i like this song. 8/10 “but i just can’t refuse” in the chorus sounds like the “im finding ways to stay concentrated on what i gotta do” in die for you by the weeknd.

i really hate trap beats tbh. but ik it’s like ari’s signature now. but ick. it’s a bop tho for sure. but not really my taste. i only really like it bc the lyrics. i just love ppl telling their business y’all i’m not kidding. 7/10

AHHHHHH BITCHCHHHH YESSSS THIS IS WTF i’m TALKIN ABOUT THIS IS POP BITCH YESSS 100000/10 i love the modern 80s pop vibe and the chorus is so perfect w/ the beat. it just rides man i love this song. i’d love this album JUST for this song.

true story:

so 90s love it. very aaliyah beat. i love a good 90s r&b moment so ofc this is an automatic like even if the chorus isn’t that catchy. idk ig i just feel like pop should have catchy melodies and/or an infectious beat. y’know? also she ate w/ the belting at the end. 8/10

the boy is mine:

YASSSSSSS. again we know i love a 90s vibe. the slowdown right before the chorus is insaane. and the choral style harmonies on the “is” of the boy is mine scratches something in my brain as well as the “gotta be a reason why” robotic voice thing. this is so catchy. this is totally a fantasize vibe. so good. 10/10

yes and?:

i dont have it in me to keep defending this song from u vultures. AND i wish she put the mariah carey version on the album too 8/10 and no i will not be explaining myself further y’all are gonna make me cry.

we can’t be friends (wait for your love):

feel i’m getting an 80s vibe again. i like it. i’m loving the upbeat music, sadish vibe lyrics thing going on in this album. i like the vibe of this song a lot. i do wish something in here was more catchy. but i like it. it’s so soft and wistful almost. that’s probably why i’ll relisten. conjure up some interesting maladaptive daydreams w/ this one. 7/10 edit: i watched the video now i like it more. 8/10 lol

i wish i hated you:

it’s very vulnerable. again i’m nosey so i like that. but the song is eh for me. i don’t think this is a song i’d listen to for the music but more for the vibe. 6/10

imperfect for you:

i looooove it. a little weird melodically but i love it. just scratches something in my brain it’s so good. so catchy. 10/10

ordinary things:

it’s good. not one of my favorites but the more i listen, the more i like it. i love the way she pronounces ordinary in here lol. 7/10

p.s. i feel like why try from my everything would fit in here idk. this album feels like a perfect combination of all of her others, it’s so weird how that works out. i love it tho. pleasantly surprised!!

Got the Aux hcs||Jujutsu Kaisen

A/N: These hcs are prolly gonna vary from general artists/genres to general chaos towards the end :D also gonna do some for the kyoto school...eventually. Didn’t incl. Yuuta because he’s not here yet but tbh he prolly listens to MCR or smthng let’s be real. I apologize for Maki’s being so short, I know her fanbase is starving for content and I’m sorry I was unable to provide it this time.

Plot Synopsis: Some dumb music taste headcanons for the tokyo school. ((I only included characters that have appeared in the anime like fully, onscreen w lines not just mentioned, and I also only did the main ppl from the Tokyo school so that’s why there’s no Yuta or Nanami.))

Itadori

First and foremost

The man is a barb (Nicki Minaj fans) and a hottie (Megan thee stallion fans)

No I don’t take criticism

Aside from that, Yuji listens to pop and some rap (mostly megan thee stallion)

His pop taste is also not limited by generation, he definitely listens to artists like Anri and Miki Matsubara

Other artists he listens to are probably; Rihanna, Post Malone(he just does, idk why), Doja Cat, Brittany Spears, Shakira, Kesha, Lizzo, Ariana Grande

Fushiguro

Fushiguro unironically listened to wake me up inside in middle school, again, I do not take criticism

He also listens to artists like Mother Mother

Fushiguro is kinda embarrassed of his music tastes though so he’ll lie about what he’s listening to

“Fushiguro what are you listening to?”

*cue panicked Fushiguro struggling to put his phone away* “N-Nothing why”

Also this man listens to Lady Gaga and probably some Panic at the Disco

But for sure panic at the disco

Also he makes playlist named after his friends and what not

Now one might say aww, how sweet

Which, yes it is, but also, Fushiguro refuses to let anyone know his true music tastes so adaptation is necessary for survival

If Fushiguro has the aux, it’s a good day, he knows everyone’s music tastes and probably already has a playlist tailored specifically to everyone’s taste, there’s never a single song that everyone hates

Kugisaki

She listens to Avril Lavigne and Kesha

Her and Yuuji have pretty similar music tastes (himbo/lesbian solidarity)

She also listens to songs like Jenny(by the studio killers) and Youth(Troye Sivan) and just stares at the ceiling pining

Her playlist reflects this

From pop to pining and then back again

Also she hasn’t stopped streaming Driver’s License(Olivia Rodrigo), her and Yuuji listen to it and every time she just falls out (when it first came out, she got so invested in the drama of it all)

Genres she listens to are rock ballads, pop, and any playlist with words including but not limited to ‘wlw’, ‘girls are pretty’, ‘how to not have a crush on Maki-senpai’

Artists she listens to incl. Kali Uchis (stumbled upon Dead To Me and hasn’t ben the same since), Queen, pop girlies like Brittany Spears, and Troye Sivan

Maki

Maki mainly listens to workout music or indie/chill beats

Like her playlists are lowkey dry

And she refuses to use spotify premium, even though Gojo’s paying fo it

I can also see her listening to an occasional orchestral/instrumental piece like Ushiwakamaru

Inumaki also kind of put her onto listening to video game soundtracks, she probably listens to the soundtracks of games like Persona tbh

She does allow herself the small pleasure of listening to Hozier from time to time

Inumaki

Inumaki is a menace

His music taste, while there are bangers, mainly consists of music found in memes/tiktoks/etc.

((He also listens to video game music, but more of the Mario Kart sort))

I’m thinking like Vengaboys, Aqua, etc.

He does listen to other artists like Junko Ohashi and Rina Sawayama on occasion, the majority of his music taste exists to make him laugh as he thinks of all the random jokes made to the songs

Whenever, Inumaki has the aux cord, everyone in the car just mentally prepares themselves

With Inumaki, they feel bad telling him to stop because he’s really sweet and nice, and, maybe he just doesn’t know

But he does know, he just doesn’t care

Panda

Panda listens to 80/90s rap

Tbh he’s got the best music taste out of everyone sorry not sorry

He mainly listened to whatever Yaga put on growing up so that’s why his taste is older than he is

Artists for Panda include Biggie, Pac, Outkast, etc.

Principal Yaga is black I just know Panda grew up listening to Ice Cube and the like while he was training I just knowwww

Panda’s playlist choices though usually aren’t too egregious

While Panda’s no Fushiguro in terms of adaptability, who’s really gonna be opposed to listening to bangers from the 90′s

Gojo

Gojo’s taste in music exists solely to torture Fushiguro

Now does he necessarily like any of these songs he plays? No

But does his desire to antagonize out rule his dislike? Yesyesyesyesyes

Gojo, unlike Inumaki, does not get the same sympathy

When Gojo syncs up his Bluetooth (bcus let’s be real that man does not have a car with a physical aux cord) everyone in the car just lets out the loudest groan

Just for that he’s gonna make 3 extra unnecessary turns

In actuality though, when he’s not bothering his students or Nanami, I imagine Gojo is a fan of 90′s rap as well as classical music

I think he also likes rock too, he discovered it back in his student days and it never really went away

He also definitely has a playlist called something like ‘my main character music’

General car shenanigans(imagine this as a class trip to some place that’s about 2 hours away)

Gojo and Inumaki team up to antagonize everyone

Like they will play 10 hour loops of caramelldansen with absolutely ZERO remorse

Fushiguro and Kugisaki slowly just go insane during the course of this

Although, Kugisaki will be a lot more vocal about it, cussing up a storm by the 4th loop.

This will then lead to Gojo and Inumaki being overthrown; Gojo being replaced with Ichiji at the wheel and Inumaki on thin fuckin ice

When the inevitable silence becomes too much to handle, Yuuji will tentatively offer to play his music

It’s all good, California Girls and Toxic instant hits

Yujji’s reign will end in one of two ways; 1) eventually, a Megan Thee Stallion song comes on a Gojo’s like “whoa kid, that’s not very family friendly” or 2)The sound of Kugisaki, Gojo, and Itadori singing poorly on purpose pushes Maki to take over out of frustration

Either way Maki takes over and they all kinda doze off because of how chill and soothing Maki’s music is

This ends when Ichiji gets a little too relaxed by the music and almost swerves, causing them to abruptly cut the music off

Panda just puts his paws up non-defensively like, “Don’t ask me, my music isn’t family-friendly either

At which point they all look to Fushiguro to save the day

And he does... until his phone battery dies

(Bonus) Sukuna

Sukuna probably tunes out all the miscellaneous stuff that Yuuji listens to

But one day he was minding his business till he heard Yuuji playing a Nicki Minaj song

Now, whenever Yuuji falls asleep, Sukuna will pop out every once in a while just to turn on Nicki.

i feel like i need . to know like what kind of vibes you’re talking abt like … do you have a group/artist or song in mind? bc the only songs/artists i can think of are like . exclusively singing/singers like my brain has blanked and i can’t think of any r&b songs from that time period w rap parts in them? that’s obvi not to say that they don’t exist i just can’t recall any atm djfjsjd my mom didn’t listen to rly any music with rap in it when i was growing up and by the time i started listening to my own music, i sought out more modern rap/hip-hop/r&b !!!

also i’m so sorry to the potentially offended johfam for what i’m abt to say but . r&b, especially older r&b, i feel like requires a Lot Of Soul. it takes Heart and like . Emotion, y’know? like i feel like that style of rapping would require, like, some level of expressiveness, emotion, etc. and honestly i don’t rly think i could see johnny—or Any Member of NCT 127 for that matter—doing that style of rapping,,, like at all.

jaehyun has the like timbre i think? like the vocal depth and the kinda soothing voice, but i don’t think he has the . intonation… like i think when he speaks, (again, speaking abt english bc that’s the only language i can assess) he speaks Very Well like very proper w like . practically perfect diction and stuff and i feel like he’d require like . some more coaching on how to loosen up a bit when it comes to his expressiveness? i think he might get in his head at times and be more concerned abt like being on beat and on key (which of course is super important) but i don’t know,,, if he feels comfortable enough in his rapping? to be able to just let it flow? and like Deliver the words w emotion? bc i’m thinking once more abt … dancing in the rain and how . that went . to me . djfjdkfkd

mark, to me, doesn’t rly have the timbre but i don’t think that would immediately count him out !! however i think he might have the best idea of how to deliver the words like how maybe to let the emotion come through at times? but tbh i think that his diction might trip him up a bit? like i think that his way of speaking might sound more heavy-handed in a song like that? (for example think abt like . code switching… most ppl i know that code switch can Turn Off the AAVE and even alter their pronunciation of some things, but i don’t think mark’s ever needed to do that, so i don’t know if he knows how) thinking abt better days by superm and how it’s a very beautiful song but i remember thinking that smth abt mark’s part was like Just A Teensy Bit Off to me? like i think it rly was part of the way he pronounced some of the words/his syllables? idk jsfjskkd again this is my opinion!!! mark’s style(s) of rap seem to fit hip-hop/rap more than it does r&b, in my opinion!

johnny, to me, doesn’t really seem like he’d fit that kind of vibe? again, pls let me know like what songs/artists you had in mind!! so far i’ve evaluated, like, in terms of expressiveness, timbre, and diction!! to me, his diction does Not Seem like it fits the vibe djfjjdkdkd and that’s coupled with his expressiveness i think bc he basically sounds like he’s reading off a teleprompter in the kind of… semi-stilted way where it seems like he doesn’t know what’s coming next 😭😭😭 JOHFAM, I APOLOGIZE FR FR I DON’T SAY THIS W MALICE !! i think his timbre may be subjective bc i personally . am not too crazy abt his speaking/rapping voice so i feel like ppl who like his talking voice might have a diff opinion!!

honestly, it wouldn’t rly feel fair to me to evaluate taeyong on a song like this bc he . doesn’t speak english yknow? and given that diction is something i’m considering, (it’s not abt Proper Pronunciation, it’s just the way the words are said in general) i don’t think it’d be fair for me as a native english speaker to critique taeyong, someone who doesn’t speak english fluently, on things like his diction / pronunciation !! in terms of his, like, expressiveness,,,,, i don’t rly know? i don’t believe i’ve heard much like . emotional variety in his parts, tbh? which isn’t his fault rly bc SM isn’t rly like . giving him opportunities to do parts in songs where his delivery can be emotionally varied (unless we count lightbulb and i’m SO sorry but i cannot stand that song i can’t 😭😭😭) so idk abt expressiveness either… i will say that his timbre Does Not Fit The Vibes To Me…At All djfjdkfkd like he has a very . kinda like. gruff, nasally (not always a bad thing) approach ?? there isn’t usually much like . variance there i don’t think :/ BUT long flight!! his song long flight !! when he sang in long flight he sounded SO nice and pleasant and i rly love that song!! but like… that’s singing, so i don’t think that rap wise he could pull it off? i just don’t think he has that like . soulful, emotive kind of expressive way of speaking/rapping that i imagine when i think of this genre?

i’m not going into the rappers in other units bc you only mentioned johnny who’s in 127 so i just did 127 members that rap djfjdkfkd but yeah !!! i feel like SM doesn’t have as much of an investment in Developing or Honing any of their skills? (speaking abt 127 “rappers” which i quoted bc i’m including johnny and jaehyun, neither of whom, to me, actually fulfill the title of like “rapper”) like their team is just kinda like “this is what works and what’s been working so let’s just do that” to some extent? like yeah the music itself is more experimental but the actual delivery and cadence and stuff that never rly seems to vary to me djfjsjd and when . it has . i rly didn’t like it 😭😭😭

so i don’t consider it like a personal failing on any of their parts rly i think that SM is maybe inadvertently steering them into One Trick Pony territory? which i would hate to see happen djfjsjd i think that mark def seems to be the most like eager to learn and try new stuff, followed by jaehyun i think, then taeyong, then johnny !! which tbh is def a downfall of having a group with So Many Members like there are only so many coaches and stuff and only so much time so i fear that they (LSM & the SM production team, by extension) have spread themselves too thin by trying to go too big too fast ?? like maybe make sure all… your current members are taken care of and are developing well… before adding new ones… bc like the last thing you want is for ppl to start viewing NCT as like . stagnant? ig? predictable? and again i think they double down on their experimental noise music vibes (which i LOVE) to combat this, but i don’t know if they’re aware that it might start appearing to some ppl as though they’re just like . distracting ppl with shiny bells & whistles :/ while they’re actually just kinda doing the same thing but w a slight variation? ig? like do we always need raps from gruff, nasal taeyong, “edgy,” kinda badass mark, sexy whisper-rapper jaehyun, and johnny? (i’m SO sorry i rly couldn’t find words to sum up johnny’s rapping that didn’t sound mean i’m SORRY sjfjsjd)

like tbh??? say what y’all want abt him, but i fw chanyeol’s rapping HEAVY (chanyeol is from exo in case you aren’t aware!) like: promise, baby don’t cry, obsession, lotto, monster—he has a very versatile range of deliveries!!! promise as a song . is so beautiful but i’m being deadass when i say that i actually started tearing up in public when i heard chanyeol’s rap in that song. he rly does seem to have a very good concept of what vibes to bring to the table for certain songs and if he doesn’t and the production team was helping, then he seems to take direction incredibly well!!!! but again, i think that has a lot to do with the fact that . they were working with Way Fewer Members bc he was in EXO-K with only 6 members obvi and then even when they joined EXO-K and EXO-M, there were 10 members and it kept 😭 going 😭 down 😭 and weren’t trying to do so many different things i don’t think? also, quite honestly? EXO vocalists are like. p much elite to me in the KPOP music industry, like baekhyun, kyungsoo, chen, and junmyeon (give that man his credits, damn it!! he has a beautiful voice), and i rly don’t think that they required as much attention/one-on-one coaching as maybe like . some NCT members (i am not using “some” to be deliberately vague in a shady way, i rly just am not thinking of any specific members at the moment) who are definitely very talented but are Younger and Less Experienced than the EXOs, y’know?

so like thinking abt it like that: when chanyeol was in EXO-K, out of the 6 members, like 3 of them def didn’t need v much guidance bc they’re Vocalists and they’d prob come in, kill the damn thing, and leave sjfjdjdj so i feel like it was chanyeol, sehun, and kai that prob got more individualized attention and also if i’m not wrong, sehun & kai are also like main dancers and at least one of ‘em is the visual/center, right? like sehun was a dancer/visual (?)/rapper, kai was a dancer/visual (?)/rapper/vocalist (?) and while chanyeol has a lovely, warm voice, they weren’t always doing very much with it, so i feel like they kinda steered him to rapping and bc he was their like . Main Rapper, they most likely gave him a lot more attention!! i also think that chanyeol probably very much wanted to improve!! like, he seems like that kind of person and he’s very musically inclined, so i bet he was def more proactive in seeking out guidance which, again, was def easier back then because SM didn’t have so many ppl to manage (in the group) i don’t think!! therefore, the production team/coaches probably Had More Time to work with chanyeol if he’d needed it back then as opposed to the time that each member of NCT might get/want now, yknow?

also this is slightly related but also not. it def might be controversial but. i will say it anyway. not every song . needs a rap . 🧍🏽‍♀️ when i first heard focus, i LOST my fucking mind !!! everything abt the vocals and the music was INCREDIBLE AND THEN. and then they started rapping . i do not believe . that song needed a rap . i think they maybe wanted to recreate or emulate smth like faded in my last song? but they . didn’t do that djfjdkfkd i just heard the rappers coming in and sat in place like “that just seems unnecessary” like . you don’t have to play every card all the time djfjdkfkd just like no longer doesn’t have any rap parts in it!! they could have done that!! just an r&b song!! if they were worried abt the members who were rapping (p sure they were johnny taeyong and mark) not getting enough lines or smth, toss ‘em on a harmony!! like i was so . HhHhHhHh i was pretty bummed abt it sjfjsjdjd like yeah i still listen to it and it slaps still but it could have slapped More if they’d kept it a strictly vocal song i think :p

also speaking of faded in my last song, i think the amount of rapping in there was Excellent i think it was a perfect amount !!! not to mention i remember specifically getting chanyeol vibes from lucas’s part so . that was excellent i love faded in my last song with all my heart and soul it’s one of my top favorite nct songs!!!!

those are my thoughts sjfjsjdjsjdsj and if, for some reason, someone wants me to do smth like this post for like . a diff unit, like wayv or dream, or maybe do smth similar for unit vocalists? i could try and do that ig!!

as a parting gift, here is my summary of my rankings for which 127 “rapper” might best embody the song genre anonnie suggested!

expressiveness: mark, most likely

timbre: jaehyun

diction: …not rly any of them tbh but the closest would have to be mark i think!!

Galaxy: What fascinates you?

thats a really hard one. there's a lot of stuff that fascinates me. i think learning anything is fascinating. like the act of learning. one thing that comes to mind is like art and learning more about my craft. also my friends! im often fascinated by them and with them. they're all so smart and intelligent and driven and creative and like kind and it's just a wonder to watch them do their thing.

lots of small things are just easy to pull me in, again, with learning. i really like learning about almost anything i have even a slight interest in, part of it really being that it's just intriguing? idk.

1975: if you could time travel to any time period, what would it be and why?

part of me wants to like impulsively say THE VICTORIAN ERA but like i really wouldn't. like that's The Brand but it's been really glorified in my mins by period pieces like women still didnt have rights and gay ppl also didnt have rights nor were on the radar for rights like. maybe rhe make-believe victorian era in my mind but definitely not.... the real. victorian period.

SO INSTEAD IMMA SAY LIKE THE 80S TO LIKE THE EARLY 2000S???

largely bc like a sense of nostalgia? like, i feel like things were a little better back in the 2000s but like also i was like anywhere from a literal infant to age 10 so i wouldn't ACTUALLY know i was too busy being a fucking kid.

but the music was nice and the tv shows were nice. i love the old tech that was used. there's a sense of imperfection to it that just FEELS good. i like grain and i like crunchy sizzle that digital recordings don't have.

and i think one thing i REALLY REALLY fucking miss the most was the weather. like... i miss when it used to ACTUALLY SNOW where i live and i miss falls being crisp and wet and ALWAYS being crisp and wet, not like having a random OPE ITS 81 DEGREES OUT TODAY like WHAT!? IT'S FUCKING FALL.

plus, i feel like, there was a form of a stronger sense of community in the US before. like, i dunno i often feel disconnected from people and also just my local community and i feel like... to a certain degree the world may have been a little kinder. not like on the most revolutionary levels, and maybe this is a culmination of media ive watched, my own nostalgia, plus my parents' nostalgia for these times but it just sounds like people were more engaged?

and like maybe its bc im not in public school anymore, but block parties? like i've never been to a block party, but i remember hearing them across town and singing along to the music with my cousin. like, i remember that with a LOT of festivities and i just don't think my younger cousins now, who live in the same spot, can relate.

also i miss 90s/2000s RNB and hiphop! and the tv that was airing in the 90s n 2000s. like xfiles? banger. well at least the first 2 seasons i'm still watching (im on season 4, season 3 fucking sucked)

also fresh prince! i started rewatching it last night and like. i was 10 when i last watched fresh prince so a lot of shit went over my head that i didn't pick up on, but i'm 22 now and it's just been like ohhhhh.

but also idk it's nice and idk if i live under a rock or if i feel like a lot of shows i watch or see now don't have the same vibes, but idk i just like 90s shows like that.

Y'know, I think the only thing that might be a bit of a talking point between the two of you is the not having kids thing. Brian strikes me as such a strong family man. However, I don't think he's incapable of bending, so if the two of you want to be fur parents, he'd be just fine with that. Other than that, one of Brian's love languages is touch to like, be prepared for hugs, kisses, all that wholesome stuff. He's definitely a bit of an insomniac so like, please spend time with him cuddling on the roof while the two of you talk about anything and everything. Brian will definitely cook and bake with you as well, seeing those are two things he loves to do. Hi love bug, sorry this is late. The matchups were giving me some wonky type of burn out, but it's here now. To answer your thing about why animals don't need toothpaste, it actually has a lot to do with their diet! They don't eat refined sugars or the high amount of acids we do, and they also tend to eat way more twigs, sticks, bark, bones and even grass that help keep their mouths free of debris. Tell me about your characters and stories! One of my favorite things to do outside of running this blog is OCs and world building. Again, apologies for this being late. 10 albums that influenced my taste and made me a music snob (with commentary):

1. Linkin Park - Meteora

I think I’ve already talked about this, but I was in my early teens when this album came out, and I had a classmate that liked rock(ish music) so I went to the local CD shop that sold burned CDs (we won’t talk about it, 90s and 00s Macedonia was in a different century than the rest of the world) and asked for something cool and rock, and they gave me this CD. Now, like the nosy music nerd I was, I decided to play it once before I gave him the CD. Long story short, loved it so much, ended up buying him a picture frame and keeping the CD for myself. The angst in Chester’s voice and the tiny electronic twists together with the dark tunes made my teenage years (and still do) bearable.

2. Kyo - Le Chemin

I was maybe 9 when I first heard these guys on TV and fell in love with the guy in the red shirt. This was around the time I started understanding a bit of French and it certainly helped when a few years later I found a copy of this baby in our local French Institute. I’ve been listening to a lot of French music throughout the years, but nothing compares to this album. It made me understand emotions in French if that makes sense. There’s always a dark undertone to every song and I love how Ben’s able to infuse his voice with enough desperation/anguish/urgency while still talking about love.

3. Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane

Early teens again, on a vacation in Montenegro, bought it from a shop right off the beach lmao. The cover looked dope, and it was 2 euros. Mainly bought it because I loved that there was Jane in the title, a male name in Macedonian, also the name of the guy I had a crush on. When I went back to camp, he played it for me and he liked it as well (he was an employee there and a biiiiiiiit older than me). Little did I know that the syncopation, the embellishments and the raw energy Adam sang with in (only) this album was gonna make me compare every pop album to this one for years to come. This is like IT for me when it comes to pop music, even if it’s not entirely pop.

4. Six Pack - Minut Cutanja

I was 13, my brother wasn’t at home, so I decided to raid his computer for music. “Borrowed” a lot of punk music and this album which was titled just Six Pack. I didn’t really listen to Serbian music (tbh, I turned my nose at it bcs I thought it was something older people did, or ppl with no taste), let’s just say that living in a post-Yugoslavia world as a kid was fkn weird (@httpsgfg might agree). But there’s this song called 2 Minuta Straha (2 Minutes of Fear) which served as a soft transition to punk (punk-rock) for me, and consequently heavier rock and metal. Like, it’s such a great album, and made me open to finding other ex-Yu bands that sounded modern before their time.

5. Opeth - Blackwater Park

It was late 2007 and I made my first friend in high school (other than the ppl I already knew). She was this goth type that had a brother in a band and she listened to a lot of the music he listened to. Long story short, she showed me Bleak and that was IT for me. Loved the oriental vibes, the distorted guitars and the growls so fkn much. To this day I’m a growl > scream girl, and Mikael Akerfeldt’s to blame. Like... his growl is so smooth and homogenous, I love it, and wait until you hear his clean vocals. Top that all off with the jazzy solos and acoustic-sounding guitars, just makes it all so perfect damn it!

6. Avenged Sevenfold - Avenged Sevenfold

2007-2009 was definitely my a7x moment. I started my journey with Waking The Fallen, but The White Album (self-titled) was the pivotal one for me. There’s just something about the complexity of the composition, like the drums are fkn vicious, the guitars are more technical but also more melodic and the lyrics are liakfjndjflsdkjn! It’s also the album The Rev wrote some of my all-time faves like Brompton Cocktail, Afterlife and Almost Easy, and in hindsight... no, don’t want to think about it. But yeah, it set the bar for modern metal music for me.

7. Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime

Now, where do I fkn start with this one. Found it in 2009 or 2010, the peak of my prog metal days and I was just blown away that someone thought to create banger sonics with a banger backstory. Queensryche (at least those bandmembers back then) were absolutely genius in their craft, and I’m just sad they never got to make another album similar in quality.

8. Alice In Chains - Dirt

Back in the day, I really hated grunge, and if I’m being honest, I still hate Nirvana with a passion, hated the fact that musically they weren’t the best but got so famous post-mortem. I mean it’s not their fault, it’s their fans’ fault for being such dicks lbr. But in 2010 I bit the bullet and played me some AIC. I was trying to broaden my horizons so to speak, and grunge was next in line. Layne’s vocals had me hook, line and sinker. I’ve been a fan ever since and I even gave Soundgarden and Pearl Jam a chance.

9. The Police - Synchronicity

My mom’s to blame for this, she’s always liked them, and I used to listen to a lot of ska-influenced music as a kid (I still love it today). I think Synchronicity was the peak of their musicianship as a band and it’s just such an evergreen album. Like... It doesn’t sound like something produced in 1983, yknow? Sting is a mf genius.

10. Ludovico Einaudi - Divenire

The beginning of the last decade was a weird time for me music-wise. I think I wanted to make myself appear more grown-up in the eyes of ppl, and I got a lot of shit for listening to metal. So I went in all sorts of directions, from grunge, to pop-rock (ATL, Paramore that kinda thing), post-rock radio hits and even a bit of minimalist classical music and instrumentals. I used to play classical guitar, so this wasn’t really anything new, but the minimalist subgenre definitely was. I think I could classify my taste as sounding modern/timeless, I really don’t like music that’s stuck in a certain decade, and this album, or more like the song Divenire because that’s the one I’ve played the most, is exactly it. I could be 80 and still listening to this, thinking it just got released. This man is a genius.

hell yeah i do (17 yr old me is jumping for joy that someone actually wants to talk about grunge music).

hole - mostly known for being courtney love’s band, and my personal favourite band. they made really good music, but are criminally underrated due to ppl dismissing them bc of courtney’s personal dramas. can’t name my favourite songs by them bc i’d be here all night listing off their entire discography, so i’ll just recommend their most famous songs, which are: doll parts, violet, miss world, awful, celebrity skin, jennifer’s body (the movie jennifer’s body was inspired by this song), asking for it, burn black, teenage whore and plump (there are so many more hole songs i’d like to include but i’m trying to keep this succinct).

babes in toyland - were a very influential band on female-fronted grunge bands and riot grrl bands. have similar themes and aesthetics to hole, due to courtney love being best friends and room mates with babes in toyland’s lead singer kat bjelland in the 80s (kat was the one who taught courtney how to play the guitar and at one point they made a demo tape together). my favorite songs by them are: angel hair, bluebell, quiet room, won’t tell, he’s my thing, handsome and gretal, ariel, bruise violet and sweet 69.

jack off jill - another female band. their music sounds like if you combined grunge with emo. my favourite songs by them are: angels fuck devils kiss, when i am queen, clear hearts grey flowers (also the name of one of their albums), underjoyed, surgery, my cat, vivica, witch hunt, strawberry gashes and fear of dying.

pearl jam - one of the big four bands of the seattle grunge scene. known for playing in a lot of large arenas. their singer, eddie vedder, is famous for mumbling the lyrics. my favorite pearl jam song is jeremy. other notable songs include: love boat captain, even flow, once, alive, black, better man, sad, light years, dirty frank, blood, and spin the black circle.

soundgarden - another of the big four seattle bands. were influenced by many different genres, including metal and middle eastern music. their most famous song is black hole sun. other songs include: spoonman, jesus christ pose, rusty cage, let me drown, my wave, outshined, gun, and 4th of july.

alice in chains - very influential on the grunge genre. made rather dark and gloomy music. their most iconic songs are: dirt, man in the box, would, rooster, no excuses, them bones, dam that river, junkhead, untitled, and bleed the freak.

nirvana - you definitely know who nirvana are. they have a reputation for writing depressing music due to their lead singer's suicide, but they also made a lot of upbeat music. i’m just gonna name some of my fave lesser known nirvana songs, bc you probably already know their most famous songs: frances farmer will have her revenge on seattle, on a plain, mexican seafood, hairspray queen, pennyroyal tea, territorial pissings, negative creep, dive, stain, where did you sleep last night, sliver, turnaround, breed, polly new wave, tourette's, old age, radio friendly unit shifter and aneurysm.

L7 - a popular female grunge band. had a lot of overlap with the riot grrl scene. known for organizing the first rock for choice benefit concert and for lead singer donita sparks throwing her used tampon into the audience when they performed at reading festival. their most famous song is pretend we're dead, which i think is probably the most 90s song ever. other songs include: shitlist, wargasm, everglade, uncle bob, and talk box.

there are more, but I'm going to leave it here. if you ever get into grunge music I'm sure you'll eventually encounter the other bands, like the melvins, tad, mudhoney, etc.

well, this question has the power to truly Expose™ me on the first day of Christmas, but… here goes nothing

i think ppl expect me to respond with something like “tear you apart” from she wants revenge, which is a great song! but i’m afraid i’m going to have to take you back to the ye olde days and show you what really embarrassing, early ‘00s trash sounded like.

first, a few concessions:

trash by suede and poison by alice cooper are 80s/90s classics of the “you’re bad for me but i can’t help it” dynamic. but they’re too classy for this list. there’s not gonna be any Divine on this list, no 80s late-disco jams, no “west end girls” by pet shop boys, no britney doing “toxic” or “momma i’m in love with a criminal”, no christina aguilera wrestling in the mud while singing about being “dirty”, no baz luhrmann-esque “lady marmalade”. that’s all great. it’s just not this list.

you also won’t find any my chemical romance, panic at the disco, evanescence, papa roach, marilyn manson etc. because they weren’t part of my trash experience. i mean they were there in the background, i was aware of them (and who hasn’t watched edits with “bring me to life”? don’t lie…)… and they’re kind of similar to what i have here, but they weren’t the trash i was particularly attuned to (plus, manson can choke).

some other exclusions: i remember the original p&p edits back in 2005 had all of these “cuz there’s you and me and all other people” songs that were really wonderful, cheesy, shippy songs. but that’s…not this list (although that would make a great list too! remind me to do that one too!)

i once got a message about how “mr. brightside” by the killers would make a great song for a bonkai edit, and…i like the killers just fine, and that’s a great song, but…no. this list ain’t that.

the trash here is not trash on purpose, it’s not tongue-in-cheek, it’s not a “steamy hot mess”, it’s just…really bad and angsty and earnest and totally committed to the “no one understands me (but you)” vibe that a lot of early ‘00s trash ships fostered.

okay…let’s…shame…me…:

1. cold by crossfade - back in the late ‘00s, you couldn’t find an anime AMV that didn’t have this song in the background, ESPECIALLY if your male character was a murderous, brooding (secretly soft) boi who disdained the female sex because “feelings are weakness” or something. it was baaaad, but it’s a nostalgic fave. the whole song is basically about how that arrogant, cold guy who’s shunned you and treated you badly was secretly into you all this time. yeaahhhh. (i remember this song was also popular with m/m ships because you had that classic dynamic where one of the guys was still in denial about his “gay” feelings. god i miss 2006.)

2. vermilion pt. 2 by slipknot - another 2005/2006 era song that capitalizes on the bad guy/good girl trope where she’s too “good” for the brooding antihero, but he can’t help but ruin her. or something. it’s soooo angsty. it has the great, eerie feeling of a doomed romance which was also definitely written by teenagers. i love it.

3. i hate everything about you by three days grace - obviously, you can’t leave out the big dick energy song.

4. anything by nine inch nails’ 2000-2010 period, but especially “fragile” and “we’re in this together now”, because they’re very much trashy power couple aesthetics, but also aaaaangsssst. “fragile” always cracks me up because it’s basically that one direction song about how the girl doesn’t know she’s beautiful, except it’s alternative rock and trent reznor is screaming about how he has to save this beautiful, pure soul from the corruption of the world. (for anyone expecting “closer”, that’s a great song…but i said real, embarrassing trash).

5. vampire heart by HIM - because OF COURSE. 2006 me was LIVING for Vampire Hunter D AMVs. that iconic line “love me like you love the sun” POETRY OKAY. another fave line has to be “you can’t escape the wrath of my heart”….like, whew, what a badass.

6. hate me by blue october - AAAANGST. aaaaaaaaaangst. maybe the apogee of late ‘00s cheesy alternative rock. but probably not. there’s always one that goes harder. this list, unfortunately, is 90% this genre because they really SLAPPED when you put them together with trashy ships okayyyyy there was an innocence and earnestness that the ‘post-9/11 iraq invasion’ atmosphere really captured.

7. let me go by 3 doors down - see, i was wrong, THIS is the apogee. “you love meeeee, but you don’t know who i aaaaaam” belts the lead singer of this oft-forgotten band aaaaand 15-year old me screamed yaaaaaaaaas

8. pieces by sum 41 - WRONG AGAIN. IT’S THIS ONE. the anime AMVs…my god….i can even tell you, beat by beat where the angsty edits happened depending on the breaks in the song.

9. sour girl by stone temple pilots - “bad” boy waxing about how he’s ruined a good girl? check. super Extra lyrics that go “what would you do? what would you do if i followed you?” check. sarah michelle gellar/buffy being a dark goth muse for the tormented bad boy? triple check!!

10. hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me by U2 - i meaaaaaaan. it’s in the title. 10-year old me WAS LIVING. this is THE batman song, and if there’s a god, it will be featured in the upcoming robert pattinson movie. ppl wanna say this song is more of the “trash on purpose” variety, but i don’t think so. i think joel schumacher plays this dead straight (and “batman forever”, while being one of the cheesiest movies ever made, takes itself extremely serious).

11. insatiable by darren hayes - finally breaking away from the alt rock scene a bit for this one. ppl who are now trying to make this song “respectable” and classify it as sweet 00s nostalgia are WRONG. everything about this song is convoluted and overly wrought and pitch perfect, even the fact that you would never believe that this waspy blond dude in the music video has anything to do with the actual song.

12. behind blue eyes by limp bizkit - don’t look at meeeee. this is basically a meme song. the band itself turned out to be dumpster fire and fred durst is…blehh. but this song stiiiiiill slaps, i have the courage to say it. the video definitely helps, i mean u got that trashy dynamic of prisoner/guardian @___@ and halle berry @___@. half-naked fred durst kinda ruins it, but it’s still got its charm.

13. i have to include some linkin’ park songs here at the end and i’m choosing the ones that were trashiest to me and that’s gotta be “one step closer” and “somewhere i belong” because they were always juxtaposed with villain/heroine ships in edits, and i remember fanfic authors would use them in songfics. “in the end” and “numb” are waaaayyy too classy.

additional “kinda too good for this list” rec: the entire Queen of the Damned soundtrack, but especially “slept so long”, “system” and “before i’m dead” and really ALL the songs.

this disaster list could definitely go on (i’m sure u guys can pitch in. and hey, i might be persuaded to do part 2) but imma stop here before i lose my last shred of credibility on this website lol. k byeeeeeee

More hc

-Ted has his haircut bc he pretty much just showed the barber a picture of Dee Dee Ramone

-Bill can (casually) dress pretty well but ted is the one who usually needs,,,a lil help

-he gains a better sense of fashion after high school when he moves in with bill tho

-every time they drink together ted does this lil hip swivel fists up dance when he’s drunk and bill absolutely hates it

-bills mom used to be a bad ass biker gang chick w a lot of tattoos but now she’s in jail,,,she’s really sweet and bill and his dad go to visitation often (sometimes ted tags along and he’s always so excited!! To see !!! mama s. preston esquire !!!!)

-they only have like 2 classes together but they sit with each other at lunch

-they’re both passing English but uhh not too well in everything else

-they’re in and out of detention a lot only sometimes bc they won’t stop talking and giggling during class but mostly bc of tardies

-they have learned how to have basically entire conversations thru facial expressions

-Bill can forge his dad’s signature perfectly and as far as Eugene Preston Esq. knows nothing happens at school

-Ted had to keep taking the driving test over and over bc he keeps hitting the cones and the only reason he got he license is bc one instructor got so tired of him always bein in the DMV she just passed him anyway

-Bill and ted give each other DIY piercings all the time and the only ones that don’t close up are the ones in their ears and even those got infected (once)

-like for example bill tried to pierce Ted’s nose and they already had enough trouble trying to get the nose ring thru the hole (that was bleeding a lot), but then his body just kinda ,,rejected the (cheap) jewelry over time and the hole closed up in like 2 weeks

-Bill was able to hide his shoulder tattoo from his dad for about half a year before they took a trip to the water park and had to do some explaining real fucking quick

-Ted loves Van Halen and especially David lee Roth and one time got a Charlie horse from trying to do those high kick jumps

-Ted’s dad is the type of guy to stand up in his living room and salute when the national anthem plays on tv and ted and deacon think that shit is so corny

-Bills dad tries so hard to be the hip cool dad bill kinda thinks it’s embarrassing but he loves the freedom he gets

-Bill n ted tried to recruit ppl for Wyld Stallyns but not too many ppl at school were interested and Deacon wasn’t really either.. they weren’t too bummed out bc they have big dreams about getting Eddie Van Halen

-Ted will only let go of a hug if u let go first

-Bill has a major crush on Christina Applegate as Kelly Bundy and pretty much only watches the show for her

-same thing for bill but except with Kings Hawaiian bread rolls (were those a thing in the 80s-90s?? ah who cares)

-they’re both ticklish but especially Bill !!!!!

-every Christmas is just a battle of “idk dude what do YOU want?”

-whenever bill gets nervous her gets a slight lisp it’s kinda like the S sounds as a “thzhz” sound but it’s very very unnoticeable unless ur really listening

HHHHH well. the main thing that came to mind was 3 years ago when i was driving and took a turn too fast and accidentally crashed into the front of a lady’s car….obv i didn’t mean to do it but i definitely was being reckless thinking i could make the turn. i totaled her car (i was driving a mustang at the time and those mfers are built like tanks so only our fender got dented but her entire front end was crushed) but luckily everyone was physically ok. i def learned my lesson about being a dumbass and also don’t fuck w rwd cars anymore lmao…even to this day thinking about how badly i couldve hurt her makes me shudder and i haven’t been in a wreck since
