I remember getting the gardasil vaccine when it came out. I was a sophomore in high school at that time. My mom was like, the antithesis of an antivaxx mom, she would basically hand the doctors our arms anytime they mentioned a new vaccine. And I remember that was the first time I really heard of the antivaxx movement. I remember this woman got popular pretending that it caused her uncontrollable shakes that prevented her from walking (sound familiar? who would’ve thought antivaxxers would be a one trick pony) and just fear mongering about mercury in the vaccine. I remember my high school BIOLOGY teacher (the class that also taught sex ed) went on this entire rant about the HORRORS of Gardasil. She was not ecstatic when I announced to the class I got the two shots with no side effects.

And bc the vaccine was mainly for teens and young adults (to hopefully vaccinate them before becoming sexually active-which will be explained in depth in a minute) and at the time it was only available for afab, and it was for a sexually transmitted virus, casual slut shaming surrounded it too. Which I’m sure prevented many parents from allowing doctors to vaccinate their kids bc “their child isn’t a whore”.

Cervical cancer has one known cause. HPV. Gardasil protects against the strains of HPV known to cause cervical cancer (there’s over a 100 strains but only few cause cancer). HPV is THE most common STI with around 80% of the population having had it at some point. There is also no actual test for HPV. If abnormal cells are present during a pap smear, HPV is considered the culprit. There is no test to speculate if you have HPV (at least that im aware of) if you do not have a cervix, unless you have one of the strains that could potentially cause genital warts. Which most don’t. It can also lie dormant for weeks to YEARS before it becomes active. So a partner could transfer it from a previous relationship to a new one, while remaining completely monogamous. Or be impossible to pinpoint if someone has had multiple partners over the course of years and had unprotected sex. Which is why it was pushed to teens and young adults before they had sex.

This means that there are no doubt people who have died or at least suffered unnecessarily, bc even tho there is a vaccine out there that would prevent against that very scenario, due to the misinformation (and in this specific case additional misogyny) of the antivaxx movement.

“Potential scientists” fuck offffffffffff. “potential scientists”, their “potential scientist” told a classroom full of teens, whom they trusted to be an educated source of scientific information, they should avoid a possible life saving vaccine based off dogshit.

Anyways. Sorry this is clearly a topic I’m passionate about. I also know a lot of people who’ve never heard of this vaccine. The information about HPV came directly from my gyno when abnormal cells were found in my pap smear and she nearly cried tears of joy finding out I received both shots. The vaccine is available to everyone now. It’s better late than never, so even being sexually active it’s still a good idea to get it. This also being the celibacy website, getting it BEFORE being sexually active is ideal. (Also in case i scared anyone about HPV, the reason so many people have had it is bc its generally a very mild virus and usually has no symptoms and the body normally fights it off on its own. It’s just those strains that can cause cancer, both of the cervix and throat, are the ones that are obviously a concern. Which getting vaccinated can prevent against)

There is an extremely personal message at the end of the excerpt. Been sitting on this news for several weeks and needed to get it out. Opened my word document to find this excerpt. Had written it MONTHS ago. So here goes:

Warning: Very brief violence and talk of death.

Background: Wrecker and Tech are on the Marauder with the newest group of child refugees they rescued from the Empire. Unfortunately a nosy pirate looking for a bounty reward sneaks aboard. (Hunter and Echo are away on the Dread Beldame with Mad, Sil, and Love.)

The pirate advanced on the crew of the Marauder, pointing his weapon and threatening everyone aboard.  Several of the children started to cry out of fear. 

“Ehh, you’re scarin’ the kids!” Wrecker angrily pushed back. 

The pirate smiled creepily, licking his lips. 

Tech kept his cool, quietly watching the situation.  He looked like he was waiting for...something. 

“Whattaya lookin’ at, ya goggle eyed Gungan?”  The pirate snarled. 

“Your speedy demise.”  Tech sassily quipped. 

The toddler pointed to the dark brindled shadow quietly creeping up behind the pirate, “Tiggeee Goggeee.” 

Tech stoically gave the command: “Ra’mor!” 

She was upon the pirate in a flash. Took him down by the back of his neck, shaking furiously. He didn’t last long. Wrecker grimaced and grabbed the toddler in his arms while pushing the rest of the children behind him, shielding them from the sight. 

“Let slanar!” Tech barked.  

Tiggy released the mangled pirate.  

“Briik laam.” 

Tiggy immediately ran to and healed at Tech’s left side, clacking her pearly teeth excitedly. 

“Jate Tiggy. Wrecker, please dispose of the body immediately. As far away from the ship as possible.” Tech held his hands out for the toddler, which Wrecker dutifully handed over. 

“Awww...I ALWAYS get the dirty work!” 

“Wrecker, you are the best man for this job. Remember, no shallower than 6 feet. We don’t want his companions to find him. Come children...we are safe now.” 

"Tiggy" was based on my Amish rescue "Petunia" I obtained from work. For those of you who don't know, I am a certified veterinary nurse and work at a 24 hour veterinary ER. She came to us sick and injured at 4 WEEKS old.

Attacked by her own mother and possibly needing corrective surgery for necrosis of that wound, it looked dire. The Amish don't spend a lot of money if they don't think they can recoup the investment. Her heavily infected wound burst open all over my scrubs. She was TINY and helpless. I couldn't say no.

We kept her until she was a year: paid for medical care, orthopedic surgery, vaccines, meds, training, spay surgery, the works. Unfortunately, due to her being a high drive Dutch Shepherd, we could not keep her. This breed is known for their mercurial nature and sometimes aggression. I knew there was a VERY slight chance we could keep her, especially with 2 geriatric dogs in the household. She wasn't my first rescue, either. Petunia spent time at a shelter for police and military dogs, and was evaluated for bite work. Unfortunately, she passed from the wave of respiratory "Doggie Covid" that is sweeping the US right now. With some dogs medical treatment works...with some...they don't rally from the infection. We feel sick about this and sadly miss "Looney Petunia."

She now lives on in a galaxy far, far away. Love rescued her and she fiercely defends that Force sensitive teen, their family, and The Batch. She will forever track prey with Hunter, ride on Wreckers shoulders, snuggle with Omega, lay at Crosshair's feet while he polishes his rifle, listen dutifully to Tech's commands...and steal Echo's prosthetics.

She LOVED to watch TV too!

DANGERS OF VACCINES

In defense of astrology, slightly

I am generally a fairly private person, save for the topics I have decided to be embarrassingly detailed about for the greater good (the greater good). Bipolar! I'm it! Therefore, however, there are many topics I have not really weighed in on, and THAT IS FOR THE BEST. This is a policy that Cleolinda Industries will largely continue.

However, this also means that you do not know that I am a crystal-loving weirdo. Listen, I love shiny rocks as much as I love vaccinations and democracy, that's just how it is. I really like essential oils because I like perfume, not because I think they cure miasma or wifi emanations. I am vaguely interested in past lives, but not to the point that I think hypnosis (or crystals, or essential oils) would really tell me any details. Maybe it would! Life is a rich weird tapestry.

(I do suspect that I was some kind of governess or housekeeper or lady-in-waiting in a past life, but that may be my love for Jane Eyre talking. You know, the kind of person who just stood back, clutching a tea tray in amazement/horror, while Things Insisted On Happening. Probably while keeping a diary about it. Don't lie, you know I'm onto something here.)

What I am really here today to talk about is: I love astrology. BUT. The "but" is very important here. To me, astrology is a uquiz on steroids, or maybe shrooms. People love it because it's just another way of talking about themselves, and I am no exception. Downside: there are angles and degrees and, if you get deep enough into it, math, and I didn't ask for homework in my navel-gazing. However, I admit that the math is a plus for some people. They can be the ones to explain quincunxes to me.

So, I can't read your chart for you (I could take a messy stab at it), because I am interested in astrology insofar as it helps me become less of a disaster. I use it for journaling, mostly. As prompts for calling myself out on my own shit. "You know, perhaps I AM too much of an absent-minded dreamer! Thanks, South Node!" But that's the thing: I am very good at reading my own chart therapeutically, or maybe making up bullshit therapeutically, and either way, if it helps, it helps. I don't know what your placements mean for you. I know that I am a Sagittarius sun with negative athleticism who never leaves the house—a very lacking Sagittarius, in other words—but my moon and ascendant and whatever-all account for that. Maybe I should aspire to be more Sagittarius-like. Maybe I should look into traveling more! This too shall be journaled upon.

I do have a Sagittarius mug from when I was a kid that I still use to hold pens. The knick-knacks are the best thing about astrology, honestly.

So I can't explain anyone else. I reverse-engineer my interpretations from what I know about myself, because I'm the person I intend to help. I don't try to predict the future, because obviously I would get that wrong. I don't wring my hands about Mercury retrogrades (because I was born during one. Bring it). I definitely do not judge people by their signs, a thing I have actually heard people complain about. They are probably Scorpios. My Venus is in Scorpio and I very much enjoy this sign (I believe this placement explains why I love vampires), so I'm the last person to judge them.

Anyway, I felt like discussing my approach to astrology because I think it can be very helpful, even for skeptics, if you use it—I won't say "the right way," but a particular way. I don't know which planet indicates self-improvement, but mine is probably somewhere very earnest.

He: Odd question... But you'd likely be charged with criminal negligence... perhaps with intent to kill... and of course child abuse... Your child would be taken away from you... Do you know of someone's who's doing this to their child? This is criminal...

Me: An industry... These are the ingredients used in vaccines... With binding agents to make sure the body won't flush these out... To keep the antibody levels up indefinitely...
