Happy New Year, Ma - Fezco
Summary: After Fez smashes Nate’s face in, you come over to help take care of his hand.
Fezco x Reader
Word Count: 1,330
Author’s Note: This started because I kept rewatching that scene of Fez beating Nate’s ass and I was turned on from it. Anybody else? No? Just me? Okay lol. Also, this should have been posted like January 2nd lol. My bad.
Tumblr media
“What?”
“Let me in Ash.”
“What you doin’ here,” Ash question through the screen door.
“I’m here to help,” you replied as you held up your mom’s first aid kit as proof.
Ashtray huffed then opened the screen door.
“Where is he?”
Ash nodded his head in the direction for you to follow. “Kitchen.”
You made your way down the hallway already knowing your way around the O’Neil home. Once in the kitchen entryway, you saw Fez, closing the lid on a Tylenol bottle, his hand haphazardly wrapped in gauze.
You sighed shaking your head at the sight. “Really, Fezco?”
Fez turned around to see your disappointed expression. His eyes trailed down your body to see you still in your New Year’s Eve dress, a long cream coat, heels still on, with a black bag in tow.
“What you doing here? Go back to the party,” Fez said shaking his head, then walked pass you.
“I’m here to clean up your hand.”
“Don’t need any help. Took care of it.”
“Like you took care of Nate,” you asked, annoyance in your voice.
“You come over here just to tell me I messed up,” Fez asked, plopping down on the couch.
“No... seriously Fez. Let me help.”
Fez eyed you considering your offer. All he had to clean up his hand was water, soap, and gauze. “Fine.”
Relief filled your eyes, your lips turning up into a small smile. “Bathroom please.” You quickly took your coat off, dropping it on the couch before you turned, going down the hall knowing Fez would follow. You sat your mom’s first aid kit on the counter, taking out the supplies you would need.
“Where you get all this from?”
“My mom’s cabinet. My house was only a few doors down from the party. I knew you wouldn’t have anything to take care of that,” you said, nodding your head towards his messed up hand.
Fez put the toilet seat down then sat. You reached for his hand and began unwrapping his attempt to cover up his cuts.
His hand was bruised and still bleeding. Your face winced at the sight. “Oh Fez.”
Fez just sat there quietly not making eye contact with you. Nate deserved what he got, but he didn’t want to see the disappointment in your eyes.
You noticed a tiny shard of glass still in his skin. “Did you even try to clean this up?”
“Not exactly a doctor over here.”
You rinsed his hand off in the sink then dried it off. Cleaned up the skin between the cuts with some alcohol. You put a little Neosporin on the cuts to help them heal. For just a moment, you held his hand looking at the cuts and bruises. Your thumb moving back and forth over his enact skin.
Pulling out a bandage to began wrapping up his hand, you broke the silence. “Why’d you do it, Fez? I know Nate Jacobs is an ass and I don’t doubt he deserve it, but... why at a party in front of everyone?”
Fez was quiet for a moment. Just watching you wrap the bandage around hand and through his fingers. “Remember the raid I told you about?” You just nodded. “He tipped them off.”
Your face scrunched up, anger clouding your eyes. You didn’t question how Fez knew it was Nate. You believed him. If Fez and Ash wouldn’t have had time to flush all the drugs they had, Fez would be in jail, Ash would probably be in foster care, and their grandma sent to a home. The thought made your blood boil. You tried to put all your focus into carefully wrapping Fez’s hand. Not too tight so he could still feel his fingers, but tight enough to stop any bleeding or the bandage from falling off.
“But why at the party?”
“Rather me have pulled up to his house?”
You finished wrapping his hand then began putting up your things. “No, but... witnesses Fez. And that family has pull in this town. What’s to stop him from pressing charges?”
“He ain’t gonna do nothin’,” Fez replied confidently.
“You don’t know that,” you said annoyed how easily he downplayed the situation.
“Trust me, ma,” Fez said standing up, now looking down at you. “Nothin’s gonna happen. And if it does, that’s for me to worry ‘bout.”
You stared up into Fezco’s crystal blue eyes. You sucked your teeth then looked away. “Fine. Whatever.” Then you turned and zipped up your bag, completely over this night.
“I’m sorry.”
Anger turned to confusion, turning your head to face him. Your expression asking the question your lips didn’t have to say.
“For ruinin’ the start to your New Year. You should be at that party with your friends. Not here with me.”
You reached out for his good hand. “You are my friend, Fez. I’m right where I’m supposed to be.”
“Nah, you were suppose to be takin’ a shot or kissin’ some guy. Not watching me punch Nate in the face.”
You chuckled. “Well, I don’t drink. I see how my friends get and somebody has to be the sober one. As for the kissing part... I’m kinda lackin’ in that department.”
Fezco was staring you down making you nervous. You began to drop his hand and look away, but he quickly picked it back up, lacing your fingers between his. You glanced down at your interlaced fingers, your cheeks growing hot.
“That’s hard to believe,” Fez said.
Swallowing the lump in your throat, you replied, “well, believe it.”
Both of you were silent just staring at one another. You could practically hear your heart beating in your chest. Fez was moving in closer to you and before your brain had time to process what was happening, his lips were hovering over yours.
Fez’s voice came out softer than you’ve ever heard it before, “Can I?”
You didn’t trust your mouth to speak properly so you settled on nodding your head. Fez took the leap and closed to small gap in between you two. His hand that was holding yours let go and came up to your neck, his thumb gently touching your cheek.
He was being so sweet and tender with you, but you wanted more. You wrapped your arms around him, pulling him in closer to you, so now you were chest to chest.
Fez was trying his best not to move his bandaged hand, but he couldn’t help himself. His other hand wrapped around your back, a moan leaving your lips.
The two of you got lost in each other. You began to feel off balance a little, the two of you trying to get as close to each other as possible, you taking a step back. Then you felt your back hit the sink counter. Fezco yelped in pain, taking a step away from you, his hands leaving your body.
Your hands shot up to your mouth, covering your lips. “Shit, I’m sorry,” you repeated over and over feeling guilty for his hand getting smashed between your backside and the hard counter top.
“Nah,” Fez replied holding his hand tight to his chest. “Ain’t your fault.” His hand stung, the skin not under the bandage turning red.
You grimaced at his hand making Fez feel bad that you were feeling bad because of him.
“Hey,” he said catching your attention dropping his hand so you wouldn’t stare at it feeling guilty. Once you made eye contact with him, Fezco continued. “Happy New Year, ma.”
You smiled up at the ginger, your heart filling with joy. “Happy New Year, Fezco.” You watched the corners of his lips turn up into a small smile, his cheeks turning a light shade of red before you spoke again. “Let’s go put some ice on that hand of yours,” you said sweetly feeling bad for the extra pain he was in now. You grabbed his good hand then led him out the bathroom.

I need a level headed adult to calm my stupidity. look, I'm severely paranoid and a hypochondriac and every little thing I believe is a Sign(TM) and the thing is I know rationally that it's all in my head and I probably need therapy cause I've always been like this and nothing has ever happened. please convince me the end of the world is not coming. I convince myself it's happening all the time since I was a kid and corona is scaring me so much irrationally thinking it's the actual apocalypse.
idk how to help you because i’m also a hypochondriac since childhood and the only thing saving me from this is the fact that i never leave my house to begin with (but my mom is a receptionist at an urgent clinic so she could be bringing shit home without even knowing it!!!!!!!!!! lol anyway). BUT i highly doubt the end of the world is coming. the spread will slow down and things will get figured out, hopefully very soon. all you can do until then is just do what everyone else is saying and stay away from people as much as possible and wash your hands
gotta add i completely understand the “every little thing is a sign” because i’ve been trying to learn welsh and there are a lot of throat sounds and it made my throat sore and i was like FUCK IT’S HAPPENINGGGGGGGG even though it’s obviously the welsh… so i totally feel you and maybe i’m not the level headed adult you should go to lol

You groan as you lay in your bed just getting home from the hospital. Everything was too loud and too bright. It was like the moon decided to turn its brightness up just for you tonight. You used your blanket to cover your head and attempted to go to sleep until you heard a tapping at your window.
“Goddamn Peter,” You say sighing. You stand up and make your way slowly to the window. Every time you stood up the room would spin and give you this awful nauseous feeling. When you get there of course Peter is waiting there like he is just about every night. As awful as you felt the sight of him makes you smile. You open the window and Peter comes in taking off his mask as you close the window slowly.
“Y/n! Holy shit you would never believe wha-” Peter started but you quickly used a hand to cover his mouth. Peter was never an exceptionally loud person, but when he was talking about something he was passionate about? His levels usually got louder than normal. He would never talk loud enough that would get you in trouble, and he could sense where your family was which is why he is looking at you so confused. You bring your finger to your lips for him to be quiet “What’s going on y/n?” He asks whispering. You grip his shoulders for support as you can feel yourself swaying slightly. Peter grabs your hips getting scared. You take a deep breath before saying,
“I got a concussion today at practice. I literally just got back from the hospital like ten minutes ago.” You say knowing your whisper is plenty for him to hear.
“Oh, baby,” Peter says cupping your face and studying you. You laugh quietly looking at him.
“Everything else is fine Peter. The doctor said I should probably spend the week home from school though. And my mom bought a bunch of Tylenol, Advil, and any other form of headache medication at the store” You say with a smile.
“Well, what are you doing out of bed? You need to rest” Peter says shaking his head and picking you up carefully placing you in bed. You shake your head with a smile on your face. You loved the way Peter cared for you as he leaned down to place a kiss on your forehead. “Maybe I should head out,” He says and you quickly grab his hand.
“I can guarantee I will heal faster if you cuddle me,” You say looking at him with that teasing smile that he loved. God he loved you.
“Fine, but if something happens that your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man could have prevented, I’m gonna tell the city of New York that it’s your fault,” He says making you laugh
“That’s fine. I’ll take all the blame” You say. Peter joins you in bed laying on his back as you fix the blanket so that way it covers the both of you. You snuggle up to him placing your head on his shoulder and a leg across his middle. You place your free hand on his chest rubbing it softly. Peter looks down at you using a hand to tilt your chin up so he can kiss you.
“Go to bed gorgeous. Need you to rest up and get better for me okay?” He says softly wrapping an arm around you to keep you close.
“Yes, boss. Will do” You say with a smile.

*does not follow original plot of sally face*
Tumblr media
summary: larry knocks (y/n) off her feet, literally. later, him and sal come to apologize, bearing a gift of homemade lasagna. sal and (y/n) bond over their similar bodies. his eyes look familiar.
Tumblr media
The sound of your skateboard and the wind brushing past your ears practically deafened you, which allowed you to think in peace. Maybe you’d survive in Nockfell.
Maybe it wasnt as bad as you made it. You’d grow close to the old apartment, push through school, leave your mother as quickly as possible, and start fresh somewhere across the world. The only thing that you wouldn’t get close to is the forest surrounding Addison. It loomed over you, day and night, dewy pines poking out at you like a warning sign. Maybe mom moved here just so she could torture you with the forest. Remind you of what happened.
Loud footsteps joined the wheels of your skateboard. You looked back, and on your trail were those two kids from the apartment. The tall one’s face was almost right in yours. You let out a small yelp as your skateboard hit a rock and sent you tumbling to the ground, completely destroying your knees in the process.
“Shit!” larry yelled out in surprise as he dodged the skateboard that went right between his legs.
You quickly reached out to your head, trying to calm the searing pain pulsing through it. What the fuck just happened?
“What the fuck?” you groan. The blue haired boy, sal, grabbed your skateboard and came up close to you. pulling down his sleeves, he quickly grabbed your knees and covered them, soaking up the gushing blood.
“Larry!” sal turned around to face him. You winced as the fabric of his sweater clung to your knees. Your hands grabbed his to pull them off but you froze. They were soft and cold, almost like snow. How would it feel to hold them longer? Would you warm them up? or would they freeze you?
What the fuck?
You snapped out of your trance and moved them off your knees. You scowl at larry and pick your skateboard back up.
“Nice job, asshat.”
His face flushes at the insult and he moves back. Sally stands up and offers you his hand, but you dont need his help (obviously a lie, your entire body was aching like a scale 8 earthquake). You shove yourself up and wipe your burning palms on your jeans. With your feet back on the skateboard (it took a few tries to get up because your knees kept buckling), you flip them off and begin skating back to addison. You just wanted a nice fucking stroll alone, why were these fucks literally everywhere you went?
It’s around 12:45 now. You came home, took a bath, bandaged up your knees and took some tylenol. Mom was already in her bedroom and there were some leftover beer bottles on the coffee table, so she probably wouldnt wake up anytime soon. you quickly trashed the bottles and decided for a quick nap on the couch, since your room was… occupied. your pyjamas, for now anyway, consisted of an oversized grey ac/dc shirt and some soft-ass spandex shorts.
“finally, a fucking break from this shit.” a content sigh escaped your lips as you threw yourself onto the cold couch.
a few knocks sounded at your door.
“(y/n)? it’s uh, it’s sal. and larry.”
“fuck.”
THEY’RE LITERALLY EVERYWHERE WHAT THE FUCKKKK AGGHHH WHY CANT THEY LEAVE YOU ALONE THEY ALREADY BUSTED YOUR KNEES LIKE WHAT
“coming.” you mumbled angrily even though they couldn’t hear you.
the blinding fluorescent lights of the hallway hit you as you opened the door. along with them came the smell of freshly baked lasagna. your eyes widened for a second, before looking up at sal. he stared at you, taking in your appearance. your hair was ruffled, eyes blinking sleepily as they adjusted to the light. your shirt had ridden up and showed a bit of your stomach. he blushed as you pulled it down and glared at him, a slight tinge of red on your own cheeks.
“larry.” he nudged his friend. the brunette walked up in front of sal, holding a pan of lasagna.
“listen man, i’m sorry. i didn’t mean to fuck up your knees n shit. jus’ got excited cause of your sanity falls shirt. can we, uh, can we come in?”
Slam.
larry quickly jumped back in surprise.
“i guess that means no.”
you yelled out a quick ‘wait!’ as you cleaned up your apartment and hid your mom’s weed and other things. god, for a grown woman, she didn’t know how to clean for shit.
opening the door back up, you waved them inside.
“god, you smoke a lot.” larry coughed a bit at the smell of your apartment, which earned him a shove.
“sorry! god, sal, so mean.” he mumbled.
“s’ my mom. i only smoke outside. uh, take a seat on the couch, i’ll warm up the lasagna.” you pulled it out of larry’s hands as they both took a seat on your makeshift bed.
sal shifted. “you sleep here?” he asked, confused. maybe your room was being used as storage.
“for now. there’s some weird ghost shit going on in my room. some fucking preppy ghost woman keeps squealing when i come in.”
ghosts? you believed in ghosts? maybe they’d be able to take you on their expeditions! sal perked up at the thought of you becoming friends.
“you believe in ghosts?”
“well, i saw one, so what else could it fucking be?” you chuckled as you shoveled the now warmed up lasagna onto three plates. sal noticed and his eyes widened.
“oh, no, i- i don’t want any-” he waves his hands.
“you’re having it, i don’t care.”
larry laughs as you shove it into their hands.
“feisty, aren’t ya?” he stabs some and shoves it into his mouth. you sigh and lean back into the couch.
“you guys go to the school here, right?”
larry nods. “yeah, there’s only one school in nockfell.”
“eww, larry face, don’t chew with food in your mouth.” sally laughs. in the corner of his eyes, he thinks he can see you smile.
“yeah, we go to nockfell high. i’m assuming you’re going there too.”
“mhm. starting monday. hurry up and eat, i’m not warming it up again.” you grumble. sal doesn’t move. “god, okay, i’ll look away. i have to go clean this thing anyway.” you wave your prosthetic’s fingers.
“oh, yeah, you also have a prosthetic!” his face shifts into a child-like curiosity. it’s a face that you’ve seen before, and it makes you giggle a bit every time. you place your hand on his lap. sal does a double take and his mask raises a bit.
“you wanna touch it, don’t you. go ahead.”
“damn, sal, you get all the ladies. leave some for me.” larry chimes in, hand on his forehead in mock sadness. he chuckles.
“you gonna touch it or what?”
“uh, yeah.” sal slowly lowers his hands onto it. he traces your fingers, flexing them every once in a while. he flips your palm and looks at the graffiti ‘s’ you drew on it.
“when was this?” he looks back up at you.
“grade 10, two years ago. got bored in class and accidentally took out my sharpie instead of a dry-erase marker. god, my mom was mad.” you chuckle at the memory. she didnt let you back in the house for two days. you had to camp out in the shed, where you stored your extra food so she wouldn’t steal it.
sal hummed. “what about this one?” it was a big ‘SF’. was it for his name? of course not, she didn’t know you back then, moron. still, it warmed him up a bit.
“not for you, that’s for sure.”
“damnnn, savage!” larry put his plate down. “mind if i get more?”
“larry, we brought it for (y/n).” sal scolded.
“nah, i don’t mind. knock yourself out.” you nodded, continuing your conversation with sal.
larry trotted towards the kitchen.
larry’s point of view:
sal and (y/n) seemed to be getting along quite well. good for him, really. we might be able to coax (y/n) into our friend group. i didn’t like her at first, but i think she’s just a little stand-offish. anyway, back to the lasagna. man, i wish mom would make it more often. she only makes it for guests. where is it? oh, there. (y/n)’s going to nockfell high, right? probably should tell her about travis.
your point of view:
sal was still tracing your arm, running his pale fingers over where the prosthetic connected to your skin. the doctors could have chopped your arm off completely, up to your elbow, but you wanted to salvage as much as you could, so it stops mid-forearm.
“do you take it off often?” sal hummed. it felt a little intimate, tracing your prosthetic. it was like soothing a part of your body that was already gone. what? what was he thinking?
“mmm, i take it off every night. if i leave it on, i could get rashes ‘n shit. rashes aren’t fun. ‘m assuming you take yours off every night too.” he nods.
“i don’t like taking it off during the day. phantom limb shit, you know? it hurts a lot.” you grumble.
“got the lasagna. since you’re going to nockfell, ‘should probably tell you about travis.” larry sits down. “he’s your typical stick-up-the-ass bully. doesn’t really like sally face ‘n our crew.”
“yeah. just ignore him and you should be fine.”
“we‘ll protect you.” larry swings an arm over your shoulder.
huh? you can protect yourself. does he think you can’t? is it because of your prosthetic?
“i can do it myself, you dimwit.” you push his arm off your shoulder.
“time for you to leave.”
“woah, dude, calm down-” larry’s eyes widen in panic. he didn’t mean to offend you.
“i’m sorry!”
“i’m not hurt, just need my sleep. it’s 1:30. go on now.”
sal sets down his cold, uneaten lasagna and larry takes a quick bite out of his.
“see ya!” he mumbled, words muffled by food. you click your teeth as he walks out of your apartment and towards the elevator.
“(y/n).”
you spin around to face sal. his hand lingers on your counter.
“your knees. how are they?”
you look at his eyes through his mask. they’re light blue. like the lake that you so dreaded. like the sky that morning. like your dad’s shirt. he blinks.
“uh, f-fine. they’re fine. they should heal in a few days. time for you to go.” you grab his shoulders and shove him through the door.
“see you tomorrow?” he stumbles.
“yeah.” the door shuts with a slam and you’re filled with an overwhelming sense of dread.
oh god, not this again. your vision blurs as you try to grasp onto your breath. you can hear the blood rushing in your ears. your heart thuds like it’s going to break through your rib cage. it feels like someone is strangling you, coaxing the last breath of air from your lungs. your nails scratch at your throat desperately, your salty tears only making the marks burn more. at least the cold metal of your prosthetic cools you down a bit.
shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up. you can’t wake anyone. you bite down on your lip to suppress the strangled cries leaving your mouth. god, not the lake, please. not the forest. not the huge, dirty, rabid wolf-looking creature behind your father. not his cries. please, just make it shut up. SHUT UP.
you wake up the next morning to your alarm ringing.

If you’re up for more of a series could you possibly write the part of Remus recovering at home after leaving the game (the one with the stick to the face) and Sirius having to take care of him and all that?
Yes, I can! I’m so glad you guys are enjoying the continuation of something I wrote so long ago <3 Side note: I would give my left foot to be part of the Lions groupchat. Sweater Weather credit goes to @lumosinlove!
TW for bruises and blood
Sirius was worried. Even though Remus claimed he felt fine, he was just fine, everything was fine, a small seed of doubt lingered in the back of his mind. He had dozed off in the car on the way home—Sirius’ heart had stuttered for a moment before the swelling-enhanced snores started. His phone lit up every few seconds, but he didn’t dare take his eyes off the road for even a millisecond, just in case.
Remus woke when the car stopped and immediately winced. “What’s wrong?” Sirius asked, taking the hand that rested on his thigh.
“Just hurts.” Remus kissed his knuckles as best he could. His skin felt strange, and the edge of the tape was an unfamiliar sensation next to the softness of his lips. Sirius collected their gear from the trunk, then helped him up the front steps; just as he went to unlock the door, he felt Remus’ hand tighten on his forearm. “I hate not being able to see well.”
Sirius kissed his temple. “That’s what you’ve got me for.”
Hattie stopped in her tracks as soon as the door opened, and Remus frowned. “Hatters? Where are you, sweet girl?”
“She’s here.” Sirius whistled for her and crouched, setting their bags aside while Remus sat crosslegged on the floor and held his arms out. Hattie’s tail wagged low, almost as if she was afraid; she glanced up at Sirius, who tilted his head back toward Remus. “Go on, mon chou, he’s not going to break.”
“C’mere,” Remus said softly, shifting in her direction. “C’mere, babycakes. I need some cuddles right now—there we go. Okay, Hat Trick, okay.”
Sirius carefully closed the door as Hattie climbed into Remus’ lap and let him hug her, resting her chin on his shoulder. “Good girl,” Sirius said softly. A quiet sniffle led to a flinch. “Re? What’s wrong?”
“I fucking love our dog.” His voice sounded even more clogged than before.
“Are you alright?”
“It really hurts.” A shuddering breath made Hattie nuzzled closer. “Hey, good girl. I love you.”
Sirius sat down next to them and wrapped his arm around Remus’ shoulder, tracing a pattern with his thumb. “Deep breaths. You can take more Tylenol in a few hours. Let’s go get some ice, yeah?”
“Can I stay here with her?”
“Of course.” Sirius kissed the top of his head and gave Hattie a gentle pet before walking into the kitchen and grabbing an ice pack out of the freezer, as well as a towel to wrap it. The last thing Remus needed was a freezer-burned bruise. They were in the same position when he came back, though Remus raised his head from her thick fur when he heard him coming. “I’m going to put it on your face, okay?”
“Okay.” Remus sighed when the ice pressed against his eye and one hand came up to cradle Sirius’, running carefully down to his wrist. “Love you.”
“I love you, too. I was thinking about making some soup if you want to hang here for a bit.”
Remus nodded silently, though his lower lip wobbled in the one spot it wasn’t puffy. Sirius carefully transferred the ice pack to his hand and ran his thumbs over Remus’ cheekbones—usually they were sharp enough to cut glass, but now they were purple and overheated under his touch. He kissed each one before going back to the kitchen.
After grabbing some soup from the freezer and turning the stove on, he finally took his phone out. You Have: 20 New Messages

Home safe. Re is fine, getting lots of cuddles from Hattie. Thanks for the messages.
He sent a few more texts to the individual people and, after a quick conversation with Hope, stirred the soup until it began to bubble. Remus entered the kitchen a few seconds after he took two bowls out of the cupboard. “Smells good.”
“It does. Are the lights bugging you?”
“Nah. At least I can see.”
Sirius poured out two portions and set one in front of Remus, handing him a spoon as well. “Careful, it’s hot.”
The corner of his mouth twitched. “Can’t cook it cold.”
Sirius’ phone began to ping several times in rapid succession and he turned the ringer off quickly, checking the screen to make sure there wasn’t an emergency. “Leo’s bringing us soup in the morning.”
“Neat. Is everyone else okay?” Remus blew the steam off his spoon.
“The guys are all worried about you.” Sirius glanced back up, only to see Remus staring down at his soup bowl, frozen in place. “Re? Sweetheart, what’s wrong?”
“Is this my mom’s?” he asked in a small voice.
Sirius wracked his brain. “…I think so? It was in the freezer. Is that okay?”
He nodded silently and a tear dripped down his cheek. “ ‘s fine.”
“Are you sure?” He reached across the counter and pressed Remus’ hand between his own, wiping his cheek dry.
“God, I miss them. You called her, right? To let her know I’m fine?”
“I did. She told me to give you something.”
Remus’ eyebrows drew together and he looked up. “What?”
Sirius scooted around the table and wrapped his arms around Remus, pulling him in for a tight hug and pressing his face into his curls. “This.”
“Thank you.” Remus went a little boneless against him. “I needed that.”
“I bet. Do you want me to give them another call so you can talk to her?”
Remus squinted at the clock. “It’s pretty late.”
“They’re still awake.”
“Could we?” Remus dug around in his pocket and handed it to Sirius, who dialed Hope’s number and put it on speakerphone.
The call connected on the first ring. “Hello?”
“Hey, mom.”
“Are you okay, love?” Hope sounded like she was on the verge of tears already. “You sound a little funny.”
“A little banged up, but I’m alright.” Remus gripped Sirius’ hand tightly. “We heated up the soup you left us.”
“Oh, I’m so glad. Have you taken any Tylenol? Ibuprofen is bad for bruises, but I don’t know how much pain you’re in.” Her voice hitched at the end of the sentence.
“Mom, it’s okay,” Remus said gently. “It’s okay, I promise I’m fine. It looked worse than it was.”
Looks pretty bad to me. “Hestia took really good care of him,” Sirius said instead. “We got home safe and we’re icing up now.”
“What’s the healing look like? Sirius said you didn’t have a concussion.”
Thank you, Remus mouthed before turning back to the phone. “About two weeks, mostly for the little scrapes.”
The ‘little scrapes’ were held together by strips of medical tape, but once again, Sirius kept his thoughts to himself. “The blood was just a regular old nosebleed and a cut on the lip.”
Hope paused and they heard a new voice in the background. “Alright. Is it okay if Jules and your father say goodnight?”
“Yeah, totally.” Remus sniffled and Sirius silently handed him a tissue.
The line crackled for a moment. “Re?”
“Hey, buddy!” All trace of pain and exhaustion disappeared from his voice. “How’s it going?”
“Are you still bleeding?”
“Nope, my nose is a-okay. I’ve got a pretty cool black eye, though. Kinda look like a pirate.”
“The announcers were saying you were really hurt.” Jules’ voice wavered and Sirius’ heart broke a bit.
“Well, they were wrong.” Remus leaned closer to the phone, as if he could reach right through it. “In two weeks I’ll be good as new. I was really lucky.”
“Okay,” Jules still sounded unsure. “Mom says I have to go to bed.”
“Yeah, it’s late, buddy. Sleep well. I love you.”
“Love you, too.”
There was a rustling noise. “Remus?”
“Hey, dad.” The exhaustion returned and Sirius rubbed his back gently, letting him lean on his shoulder.
After a moment of hesitation, Lyall sighed. “Alright, they’re in the other room. What actually happened?”
“High stick from the Ravens caught me in the face. No concussion, just bruises and swelling.”
“Do I want to ask Sirius to send me a picture?”
Remus winced. “Probably not.”
He sighed again. “I’m sorry we can’t come out and see you.”
“Don’t worry about it, dad,” Remus said softly. “Really, I’m okay. It sucks, it hurts, I’ll ice it and be fine.”
“Sirius, are you there?”
“I’m here.”
“If he starts pulling some ‘go back to practice early’ bullshit—”
“Dad—”
“—don’t let him. If you have to lock him in the bathroom, I promise to cover for you.”
“Yes, sir,” Sirius laughed.
Lyall chuckled on the other end as Remus groaned. “Love you.”
“Love you, too. If Sirius locks me in a bathroom, I’m citing you in the court case.”
“There won’t be enough witnesses if he does it right. Sleep well, kiddo. Thanks for calling.”
“Love you,” Remus said again as the call ended. He blew out a long breath and leaned his forehead on Sirius’ chest. “Thank you for that.”
“Ne rien, mon loup. You should eat and then take a shower.”
“Are you saying I smell?” Remus teased.
“Yes, I am. I also think you’ll feel better if you do.”
They ate in silence; both were hungry, so it wasn’t long before Remus walked carefully up the stairs. Sirius checked the groupchat as he poured himself a third bowl of soup. You Have: 7 New Messages.

Sirius paused just before responding. Despite the quiet of the house, he couldn’t hear the shower running. “Re?”
“Up here.”
“Did you take a shower already?”
“Not yet.”
The bathroom door was ajar and the light was on when he entered their bedroom; Remus stood at the sink, staring into the mirror as he felt along the edges of the butterfly tape at his lip. “Did something happen?”
“It’s worse than I thought.” Sirius stepped inside and joined him, staring at their reflections. The stripes that marked the stick’s edges had turned almost indigo since they left the rink; no less than six pieces of tape decorated the places between mottled bruises. Remus reached up to touch his cheekbone and Sirius guided his hand back down.
“Poking it won’t help.”
“Two weeks, huh?”
“That’s what Hestia told me.”
“Will you help me get the tape off?”
Sirius patted the edge of the counter and Remus pushed himself up on it, leaning forward for easy access. The first one was easy—a small cut just below his brow. It slid away without an issue and Sirius pressed a gentle kiss to the spot, then moved on to the next one. They fell into a rhythm—one side, second side, slow pull, and a kiss, until only two were left.
Remus hissed in pain as he lifted the edge of the tape across the bridge of his nose and Sirius shushed him softly, moving to the other side. “Two more, sweetheart.”
“Just rip it off.”
Sirius gave him a look. “Absolutely not.”
“I’ll do it.”
“No, you won’t, because that would be a stupid idea.”
Remus huffed, but didn’t protest. His jaw ticked as Sirius pulled the last bit off. “Can we leave the lip one?”
“Not unless you want an infection.”
“You’d be a good PT.”
“I would be the worst PT.” Sirius worked the inner edge free. “I know, like, ten stretches and basic first aid. My bedside manner sucks, too, and I’d pass the fuck out if someone asked me to set a bone for them.”
“Good points all around,” Remus laughed.
The motion pulled the last of the tape off and Sirius held it up with a grin. “All done. Hey, your swelling is down. I can see your eyes now.”
The slight gleam of amber brightened as Remus smiled. “I thought I could see a little better.”
“Do you want company?”
Remus thought for a moment, prodding the cut on his lip with his tongue. “As much as I’d love to invite you in, I think I need a second to myself.”
“Cool.” Sirius kissed his cheek and stepped out of the bathroom. “Yell if you need anything. I’ll be in bed.”
He made a pit stop downstairs to gather Hattie and bring Remus’ ice pack up, and by the time he finally slid between the sheets it was nearly midnight. Remus came out of the bathroom a few minutes later, looking happier but still incredibly worn out. He took another Tylenol and snuggled up against Sirius’ side with a quiet hum, laying the ice pack over his face once again.
“Sleep tight, Re.”
“Love you.”

A/N: I’m sorry this took so long to finish!! I actually wrote it twice so I might post the “alternate version” as well lol
Outer Banks Masterlist
✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
For the longest time your yard had backed up to woods so dense that you couldn’t see the water line passed them. The path to the jetty cut through them and it made night trips in the boat your family owned a little eerier than they should’ve been. It wasn’t until high school that your dad donated the land to the island, giving Figure Eight a beautiful little park, complete with a playground, that it wasn’t really in dire need of.
Now there were no scary trees at night, just creaky swings and a merry-go-round that screeched when it spun. The equipment had felt outdated when it was put in but your father claimed that he wanted that nostalgia feel of the sort of playground he used to play on with his friends. And why shouldn’t he, it was his money.
Three weeks into the existence of the playground someone tapped razors to the slide and the whole thing had to be fenced in, your dad blaming the incident on ‘teenagers’ and more specifically ‘those kids from the cut’. He was convinced that some pogue from the cut had come up in the middle of the night and vandalized the park because they were just that bored or just that jealous of Figure Eight.
“They want a nice park; they should pay for one themselves.” He had grumbled as he watched the fence installation.
When you pointed out that they’re park had been destroyed in the hurricane, and that the board had yet to finalize a date to even address clean up on that side of the island, no one was privately wealthy enough to pay for the repair, he told you that you were being too liberal.
You didn’t think too much more about it. The only time you thought about the park was when you had to walk past it to get to the jetty. Otherwise, it was just for kids and you spent most of your time anywhere else on the island. But the chains on the swing still creaked and when you heard them that night, closing in on midnight and far too late for anyone to really be there, you went to your open window and looked out.
In any logical scenario you always hoped you were the levelheaded, immediately call the cops friend who didn’t take any risks. But it turned out that nigh that you were the ‘investigate first, ask questions later’ type. You grabbed your phone and walked out to the small park, standing on the other side of the fence and shining a light through the rungs at the kid on the swings.
“What the fuck, turn that off.” He cursed, holding his hand up to block his eyes from the light. It did little to shield the rest of his face and when you got a good look at the bruising eye and bloody lip you were immediately concerned. Some stranger was bleeding on your dad’s swingset and he looked about the same age as you.
“Are you okay?” You asked, shifting your phone so the light was hitting a beat up pair of boots on his feet and not his face. Would it be weird if you invited him in. Your mom kept a surprisingly well stocked medicine cabinet, ready for any scenario in the entire world, including but not limited to, you bringing in a stray person.
“I’m fine.”
“You don’t look fine.” You commented. When he said nothing in reply you offered your name, hoping that the introduction might help ease some tension. Or at least get him to consider admitting that he wasn’t doing so great for a Tuesday night.
“I said I’m fine.” He repeated, not offering a name in return. You noticed when your flashlight shifted again, that he was holding his side, leaning against the chain of the swing.
“Did you climb over the fence?” You chanced asking, looking up. The fence was arguably seven feet and, though you were not a great climber, you liked to think there was still some part of you that could’ve climbed a chain-link fence if you wanted to. But not this one.
“The gate was unlocked.” He replied, nodding his head to the gate that was, in fact, open.
“Oh.”
“I thought this was a public park.”
“I mean, kinda.” You admitted. Public in the sense that anyone on the Eight could use it whenever they wanted but not in the sense that anyone could use it whenever they wanted. And this kid was not from the Eight. “Are you sure you’re okay? I have some first aid stuff inside my house. I’m just right there.” You turned, waving your light toward the house directly in front of the park.
“I’m fine.” He said and you joined at the end of the two word sentence.
“Yeah, of course. Look, I know we don’t know each other that well, but I’m still worried about you.”
“Why?” He asked.
“Because you seem upset.” You said. Sure, he was hurt physically and that definitely wasn’t great, but more so he just looked so sad, even in the dark when you were concentrating the light on his boots. He looked upset and tired and sad.
“Do you have any tylenol?” He asked.
You smiled, it was a break through, probably not one you should’ve been celebrating too much because he was still a stranger and this could have all been some bizarre and elaborate rouse based solely on the coincidence that you were gullible enough to walk outside and see who was in the playground. Or even that you were still awake.
“What’s with the gate anyway?” He asked, standing and walking toward you, there was a slight catch in his step, as if walking was hurting him.
“A couple kooks put razors on the playground. My dad put the fence up for protection...he’s convinced it’s pogues.”
“How do you know it’s not?” He asked, falling in step beside you as you walked him to your home as if the two of you were lifelong friends. You led him in the laundry entrance, letting him sit in the comfy chair that was in the mud room.
“Because, I know which kooks did it.” You shrugged. “What’s your name?”
“JJ.”
“Well, JJ, are you sure you’re okay?” You asked, handing over the Tylenol and a glass of water, “I have like...bandages and stuff.” In the light you could see him better, you could see the deep bruising on his right eye and cheek. The cut on his bottom lip that had opened while he was talking, red stained on his chin. You handed off a wet washcloth.
“I’m fine,” he said it again but this time the resolve seemed to have dwindled. He sunk down in the chair, holding the washcloth to his mouth.
You frowned, however fine he kept saying he was you were positive it was a lie. You weren’t sure how he’d gotten the injuries; you knew there had been some kook on pogue violence lately and you figured that maybe it was from that. “If I asked you to stay, would you?”
“Why?” He asked, looking genuinely surprised by your question.
“I’m worried about you,” you shrugged, “looks like you could use some company?”
“I’m not the kind of company you’re looking for.”
“This isn’t some After movie...I’m just saying I’ve got some popcorn and some weed and a never-ending list of movies to watch on Netflix.” You said, grabbing a water bottle for yourself out of the fridge in the mudroom.
“Yeah alright,” JJ agreed, “have you ever seen Killer Klowns from Outer Space?”
“I asked you to hang out and watch a movie with me and your first suggestion is Killer Klowns?” You asked, trying not to laugh as you led him into the basement.
“You said it was chill.”
“Yes I did.” You replied, caving to his movie option.

Scoot Over
This is for @chickwiththepurpleguitar who deserves all the good things but all I can provide at the moment is a little Sunset Curve sickfic. We needed something vaccine related but I couldn't bring myself to make it real world 2020/2021 so this is what we get. I hope this makes you feel a little better, my friend! (There's Luke/Bobby if you squint because Lilly's fics have done that to me within a very specific context but you absolutely don't have to read it that way)
It had been a particularly bad flu season and in an effort to keep the school from having to shut down like the neighboring school distract had, the principal had organized a clinic at the school giving out the flu shot.
Which according to Alex was a good thing since none of them wanted to end up stuck inside their houses, feeling like crap for two weeks.
Only Luke’s argument was that any reason to close school was a good one and if he had to be miserable for two weeks he would just as soon it be at home with his guitar rather than the usual misery of attending classes.
None of the guys had dignified that point of view with a response though and given the fact that he was still on thin ice with his parents after his latest blow up with his mom, he accepted his fate more or less without protest when she handed him the signed permission slip.
They were scheduling the shots by last name so Alex, Luke and Reggie all got theirs on Wednesday while Bobby would have to wait until Friday. So the majority of Sunset Curve got their flu shots on the same day and that was fine until they were gathered in Bobby’s garage for rehearsal that night and Luke started feeling...off.
He didn’t say anything at first, never one to be the reason a band practice was cut short, but the longer it went on the harder time he was having acting like everything was normal.
His arm ached where he had been injected and every time he strummed his guitar the ache spread all the way down to his fingertips. He was also just tired. The kind of tired that usually only came the morning after they snuck out to play a club at 2am, crawling out of bed to go to school only a few hours after finally tumbling into it. He had already missed his cue to come in during the bridge of Bright three times and he could see the looks his friends were exchanging out of the corner of his eye like there was something wrong with him but there wasn’t he was fine...only maybe he wasn’t.
Because his head hurt and his arm hurt and he was so damn tired.
So against all previous precedent Luke didn’t argue when Bobby said it was time to call it a day, just propped his guitar up and then dropped heavily onto the couch.
“You ok, man?” Reggie asked, concern clear in his voice.
Luke sighed. There was no denying it at this point. He felt like crap.
“I think that shot gave me the flu.”
“You can’t get the flu from the flu shot,” Alex corrected.
“I think he just means it made him feel bad,” Reggie countered helpfully.
“Well, I just think we should be scientifically accurate,” Alex said firmly. “That’s step one.”
Luke reached up to rub at his aching forehead and hoped they would tire themselves out soon so it would be a little quieter. He was the type who usually never met a silence he didn’t feel the need to fill but in that moment he was dying for a little peace.
Maybe a nap.
“Ok, you two, chill,” Bobby stepped forward to take charge. “You stay there, I’m going to go get you some Tylenol.”
Luke tried not to let Bobby mother him too often, even though it seemed to be Bobby’s natural state and even though if he was being honest Luke kind of loved it. But he was too tired to pretend he didn’t want to be fussed over so he merely nodded and then tipped his head back and closed his eyes.
It felt like only a few seconds later that Bobby was shaking his shoulder to get his attention, Luke forcing himself to raise his head sluggishly. Bobby handed him two pills and a bottle of water and stared down at him expectantly until Luke mustered the energy to swallow them, immediately tossing the bottle of water off to the side and letting his head flop back against the couch.
“You’re going to wake up with a messed up neck,” Bobby said disapprovingly though Luke didn’t bother opening his eyes to check his expression.
“Don’t care,” Luke managed to grunt out stubbornly.
“Maybe you should just go home,” Reggie suggested.
“Yeah, Luke, you don’t look comfortable,” Alex added.
And Luke knew that what they were saying was logical but that didn’t mean he was ready to hear it. Would he be more physically comfortable at home in his bed? Probably. But mentally there was nowhere he felt more comfortable than here, in their studio with his boys, even their nagging giving him a warm and fuzzy feeling in the pit of his stomach. Not that he was about to tell them that.
“Nah, I’m good here,” Luke said flatly.
“Oh scoot over,” Bobby sighed plopping down beside Luke and nudging him over slightly, careful to avoid his sore arm as their sides pressed up against each other.
Bobby reached up to guide Luke’s head down to rest on his shoulder, and yeah, Luke grumbled a little, but he went willingly enough, wiggling his head slightly until it slotted perfectly against the soft spot between his friend’s neck and shoulder.
“I want to cuddle too!” Reggie insisted immediately, his weight dropping onto the couch and jostling Luke a little prompting a groan to escape his lips.
“You’re not even sick,” Alex reminded him as Reggie laid down with his head in Luke’s lap.
“I got my shot today too,” Reggie argued, his voice indicating just how pleased he was to be part of the growing pile of bodies on the couch.
“That doesn’t mean...ok, whatever,” Alex gave up quickly. “Watch out.”
Then Alex was squeezing into the last bit of couch real estate left, pulling Reggie’s feet up to rest across his legs.
Luke smiled contentedly, hoping he was subtle about it but not really caring that much,  and let his eyes slide shut again.
His arm hurt and his head hurt and everything kind of hurt but Bobby had brought his arm up to slot behind Luke’s shoulders and Reggie was snuggling happily into his lap and Alex was muttering about the misconceptions about vaccines and it was good.
After a day or so Luke felt so much better it was like his reaction was a distant memory. He couldn’t wait to show up for Saturday rehearsal until he showed up to find Reggie and Alex lingering around in the garage and Bobby nowhere to be seen. It wasn’t like Bobby to be late to rehearsal, especially when his commute was about five steps, so Luke instantly spun on his heels and headed for the main house at a quick pace, Reggie and Alex trailing after him.
They hovered just in front of the porch, looking up at the window they knew led to Bobby’s room, though it gave them no clues about their friend’s whereabouts.
Luke stride forward and gripped the porch railing, prepared to hoist himself up to the roof.
“Whoa, whoa, what are you doing?” Alex demanded, reaching out to grab his arm and halt his progress.
“Climbing in his window,” Luke explained like it was the most natural thing in the world. “He could be dead!”
“There’s a simpler solution,” Alex rolled his eyes.
“Ooh, ooh we could throw rocks in a pattern, like Morse code!”
Alex and Luke both shot Reggie a slightly judgemental look for that suggestion.
“Or we could just knock like normal people,” Alex sighed, jogging forward to do just that probably afraid to give his friends time to do anything else dumb.
He knocked and nothing happened for just long enough for Luke to be ready to go back to his original plan when the door creaked open and Bobby’s form appeared, slouching and wrapped in a blanket.
“Hey, man, did you just wake up?” Alex asked with concern.
“Yeah,” Bobby croaked. “I think that shot hit me hard yesterday too.”
“They hit you?” Reggie asked in horror. “They were pretty gentle with me.”
Alex rolled his eyes and Bobby sighed but Luke only chuckled and stepped forward to wrap an arm around Bobby’s shoulders and lead him back into the house.
“Come on, I’m going to get you some Tylenol.”
And if they all ended up in yet another cuddle pile in Bobby’s bed, overcrowded and jostling yet cozy...none of them were complaining.

Sicktember - Zach has a headache
Another @sicktember post! Today’s story is with my oc’s Kylie and Zach.
Prompts:
Blankets
Medicine
Missing Out
Headache
Fever
Zach and Kylie are in the last week of summer before their senior year of high school and want to make every minute count. So, when Zach arrives at Kylie’s family’s End of the Summer BBQ looking flushed and develops a headache, Kylie drops everything to take care of him.
Zach swings by the kitchen where his sister, Emily is garnishing her avocado toast — a sprinkle of paprika, an egg over easy — before taking the right Instagram photo to share with her friends.
“‘Morning!” Zach croaks, startled by the sound of his voice. Must just be my morning voice he tries to convince himself.
He grabs a glass from the wooden cabinet nearest to the refrigerator and pours a glass of orange juice for himself before finding a quick breakfast.
His eyes grow wide when he sees a white plate with four pieces of bacon lying on it. He quickly takes piece by piece until only one remains on the plate.
“Zach!!” Emily exclaimed, her eyes raised and face scrunched in annoyance.
“Those were for Mom!” she explains, holding a hand on her hip.
“Sorry…” he mutters, “That would’ve been nice to know before, you know” he gestures his hands to the plate of bacon, pouting his lip.
“Ugh, it’s fine. I can just make more”
“Sorry, I have to be at Kylie’s soon for their barbeque and I totally woke up late,” he says trying to justify his actions.
“Oh, nice! I’m going to try and stop by later with Kara”  she half-smiles. Emily has been seeing a girl named Kara for over a month now since they met at her summer job as a school nurse at a summer day camp. Emily’s first job since she graduated from Med School.
Zach touched his Home screen button to reveal the time, 12:48 PM with five unread messages from Kylie probably asking him where he was.
“Fuck. I better go” Zach said, panicked. He had been up late watching Netflix aimlessly and his throat was sore. He had tried everything: tea and honey, gargling with salt water, and honey-flavored cough drops. Nothing was curing the aching in his throat.
Finally, around 2 am, he was able to fall asleep thanks to some NyQuil.
But, he was deeply regretting his decisions when he woke up at 11:45 am after Kylie told him to get to her house at 12.
Luckily, the pain in his throat had hindered. Please, don’t do this to me again, he said into his mirror as he pulled on a blue t-shirt and khaki shorts.
Zach pulled into the Daniels’ driveway which was beginning to pack up with cars. As he parked his car, Kylie’s brother, Blake ran over to him waving his arms around in excitement.
Blake was a year younger than Kylie and Zach, playing in a band with some of his high school friends.
“Yo! You playing tonight?” Zach asked as he got out of the car to greet him with a handshake.
Blake laughed, “Nah. I got out of that tonight. One of my bandmates is taking their brother to college,” he said.
Blake escorted Zach to the back gate where their ingrown pool was fenced in and the party was brewing. Kylie waved to her boyfriend the minute she saw him. She wore an ombre purple bikini top with denim shorts and flip-flops, pulling out pool noodles for the kids to play with.
Zach smiled, walking over to her, greeting her younger cousins. He pulled her in for a kiss on the cheek.
“Do you have any water?” he asked feeling dehydrated.
Kylie perked up, turning her head toward him.
“Yeah! Right in the blue cooler”, she mentioned, throwing a couple of pool noodles into the pool at the kids. The kids screamed with excitement, one laying on their stomach and the others blowing water out the trunk of the noodle. Kylie giggled.
Zach pulled a cold water bottle out of the cooler and sighed out of relief. Suddenly, he felt light-headed and super thirsty. He chugged the water bottle until only drops of water remained.
“Let’s go inside. My mom still needs help getting everything set up” she mentioned.
Zach nodded, following her lead.
Kylie closed the gate over and started heading into the house.
When they walked into the Daniels’ home, Zach was immediately greeted by her family members.
“Zach! Nice to see ya,” Uncle Tim said. Zach nodded waving at him. “I’ll be right back, you chat” Kylie whispered in his ear.
Zach shrugged. “Ready for senior year? Do you have any colleges picked out?” Aunt Michelle (Tim’s wife) asked.
Zach dreaded this question. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to do.
“Uh, I’m going to community college, actually,” he said, confidently.
“Oh,” they said in unison. Zach was so used to hearing the disappointment in their voices when he told any adult he wasn’t going the “traditional” route for college.
Why was it so bad that he’d rather save money and figure out what he actually wanted to do instead of contributing to being in crippling debt from student loans? His sister had done the same thing and now, she landed a job as a school nurse. When he figured out whatever the hell he wanted to do in life, he would be successful, too.
“Yeah! Trying to save money” he said smiling at them. This was his cue to walk away. He walked over to the sectional in the living room across from the kitchen where the TV was playing a re-run of a Food Network competition.
Once the winner was revealed and another episode started, Zach looked around for his girlfriend. The chatter of Kylie’s loud relatives made his head start to hurt and fatigue set in.
His eyes lit up when he saw a hint of purple and his girlfriend bringing in a folded chair for an elderly woman to sit in. He ran over to Kylie as soon as he saw her.
“Hey. Can I go lay down in your room? I have a headache” he said, talking low so no one could hear him.
“Sure. Do you want some Advil?” she asked, pouting her lip with concern, “You look a little flushed” she mentioned.
Zach nodded, “Yeah, that’d be great” and jogged up the stairs turning a corner in the hallway to enter her room.
The noise died down as he closed the door. Now only hints of loud voices were in the distance. Zach grabbed a fuzzy blanket from a wicker basket and lied on top of her dark purple comforter, closing his eyes as his head pounded.
Then, the door opened.
Kylie rubbed his back saying, “Hey, I brought some water and Advil”
Zach opened his eyes and grabbed the two pink tablets from her hand, chasing them with the water.
“A nap might help? You look exhausted” she said brushing her hand through his soft brown hair.
He nodded, “Thanks” and curled back into his position. A shiver went through his body. Making Kylie now more concerned.
“Do you feel okay? Besides the headache?” she asked quietly.
“Mhmm” Zach mumbled. “Alright, I’ll check in later, or come and get me if you’re feeling better,” she said, closing her door over.
Zach woke up an hour later, feeling cold, his throat burning, and his head pounding more than earlier. He groaned. He could just go home and rest, but driving felt impossible.
He laid in the bed trying to muster up some strength to send Kylie a text. He waited, counted to five in his head, and slowly picked his body up.
Z: come here pls i need u
K: coming!
He threw his phone down and curled back up in his position. Shivering under the one blanket from earlier.
The door opened and Kylie quietly walked.
“Hey, everything okay?” she asked, calmly.
Zach opened his eyes seeing she changed into a Lakewood University shirt - the college she was most eager to attend.
“Need to go home. Can’t drive” he muttered.
“Aw, what’s wrong?” she asked, worried.
“Everything,” he said, his voice raspy. “I just need to go”
Zach groaned. “Babe, you can stay here. I don’t mind. I know you don’t feel well” she offered.
He was silent.
Kylie held in a laugh, resting the back of her hand on his forehead. “I think you have a fever,” she said frowning.
“Why don’t you stay here until you’re feeling a little better? Then, I’ll drive you home” she suggested. “Your sister and your mom are already here, so I don’t think anyone would even be at your house”
“Okay,” he mumbled.
“Let me get you some medicine and see if you have a fever,” she said, running out to the hallway closet where the Daniel’s stored their medicine.
Kylie returned to the room with a bottle of Tylenol and a digital thermometer.
“I’m sorry, but I need you to get up. Please”
Zach slowly, painfully got up and looked at his girlfriend.
Kylie frowned at his glassy eyes and pink cheeks.
“This should help relieve your symptoms for a bit,” she said gesturing to the pink bottle.
Zach just looked at her. He looked exhausted, she thought.
She poured the liquid into a plastic measuring cup and handed it over to him. Zach took a big gulp of the medicine, wincing from the taste.
“It’ll make you feel so much better. I promise” she said smiling softly, then grabbing the digital thermometer.
“Next,” she said holding the thermometer in the air. Zach opened his mouth, letting the instrument rest under his tongue.
“I’ll get some more blankets while we wait,” she said softly.
Even though he felt like utter shit, Zach was so grateful for Kylie. She would drop anything for him, even their family’s annual barbeque. Even before they made things official, as just friends, she was still always there for him.
Beep. Finally, the thermometer beeped as she held two blankets in her arms.
She placed the blankets on the bed as Zach lied on his back with the blanket she gave him earlier.
Kylie took the instrument out of her boyfriend’s mouth and read it. “Okay, you probably just have a bad cold. Nothing we can’t fix! And, you have a little fever, but the medicine should help with that ” she explained.
Zach grabbed the blankets at the end of the bed, ignoring whatever she was saying.
“Zach? Are you listening to me?” she asked noticing her boyfriend’s extra blanket.
He placed the blanket on top of the other and sighed out of relief.
“Sorry, what did you say?” he asked.
Kylie sighed. “I said, you have a little fever. But I think you just have a bad cold. Nothing we can’t fix”
Zach nodded, feeling warmth under the blankets. “Sorry. I really was looking forward to today” he muttered.
“Oh, don’t even worry! We had a great summer, anyway. Now, let’s get you better” she said kissing him on the forehead.
See more of Zach and Kylie!

132 Hours, Chapter 9
“Don’t kill Cardan.”
The Bomb cocks her head to the side. “I thought you didn’t like him.”
“I… don’t.”
Previous
Read chapter 9 on AO3, or read below:
The Bomb returns sometime later with a liter bottle of spring water and Tylenol. “Prescription strength,” she tells me, dispensing two pills into my open palm. “Good stuff.”
“Whose prescription?” I croak, sitting up. It feels like every ounce of liquid in me is squeezing itself out as sweat or something else. Masturbating only helps so much—the only thing that abates the worst heat symptoms is mating with an alpha. And since that’s not happening, it’ll just have to run its course.
Oblivious to my true suffering, she winks at me.
I throw the Tylenol back and wash them down with a swallow of cool water, then keep drinking. My mouth has grown so dry. But I wrench the bottle away from my mouth and say “Leave it” when the Bomb moves to take the pills back.
She gives me a look. “I’ll be back to give you more later, but I’m not leaving this with you. For all I know, you’d shut down your liver to make us take you to the hospital.”
I blink at her, wretchedly aware of the heat of my skin where my eyelids press together. I hadn’t even thought of that.
“Crap,” she says, fumbling in the plastic bag. “I should have taken your temperature first. Hold on, maybe we can still get it before the meds kick in.” She clicks her tongue. “Chemistry I like fine, drugs, sure—but nursing isn’t my area.”
“What is your area?” I ask. I don’t really feel like talking to anyone, but my curiosity is strong enough that I push through it. Anything to learn more about the people who’ve taken us.
The Bomb holds up her prize, a thermometer still in its plastic packaging, and grins at me. “I like blowing stuff up. I dabble in hacking. Basically, if there’s a wall, I want to bring it down.”
I shift in my blankets. It’s an endearing answer, but I worry that any positive feelings toward our kidnappers is budding Stockholm Syndrome. “This must be a boring job for you.”
“It was supposed to be, yeah.” She wrestles the thermometer out of the plastic and hands it to me. “You have a way of keeping things interesting. And Cardan’s a riot. I hope we don’t have to kill him.”
The beep of the thermometer turning on immediately after that statement makes me jump. “You said you wouldn’t,” I protest. “You said you’d take care of us.”
“I know. Our employer’s anxious about how much you’ve both seen and heard. But we can’t kill you, so there isn’t much of a point to getting rid of him. And between you and me, the Roach is very fond of him.”
“So—”
“Stick that thing in your mouth,” she says. “We don’t have all day.”
I glare but stick the cold tip of the thermometer under my tongue and wait for it to start beeping again.
The Bomb leans over, reading the lit-up display—red, already a bad sign. “One hundred point nine,” she announces. “No wonder you’re miserable.”
“No real danger though,” I sigh, pulling it out of my mouth and giving it a little shake. Would they really take me to the hospital if my condition deteriorated? Maybe I should consider trying to dehydrate myself. That’s the real danger of going through heat without a partner. I could do it, I think. “Forget” to drink, drive the fever higher. But our current circumstances are already precarious, and there are a million ways this might end badly for me. The headache is pulsing stronger over my left eye already, and the last thing I need is a full-blown migraine. I take a sip of water and silently will the Tylenol to kick in faster.
“We’ll keep an eye on you,” she affirms.
I wipe my hand on the back of my mouth, already feeling a little more like a person instead of a sweaty blob of hormones. “Don’t kill Cardan.”
The Bomb cocks her head to the side. “I thought you didn’t like him.”
“I… don’t.” I cap the bottle, looking down at my hands. My cheeks are hot again, which at least means some blood in my body has decided to circulate instead of pooling in my groin. “But I don’t think he deserves to die. He didn’t do anything.”
“Hmm,” says the Bomb, mulling it over.
I jerk my head up, but she’s smiling at me. Teasing. I flush again. “I’m just saying. I don’t see you guys as killers, anyway.”
Her voice has a dangerous edge to it when she asks, “You don’t?”
I shake my head to clear it. I may be sick, but I can’t allow myself to forget where I am and who I am with. The Ghost shot me already, and it’s easier than I’d like to imagine the Roach’s twisted features contorting further as he plunges a knife into someone’s back. “Maybe just you?” I offer.
“Well, you’re not far off. Murder is a messy business. I prefer to set the charges and wait at a safe distance. But we all do what we have to.” She shifts, and I must look worried, because she adds, “He’s probably going to be fine.”
“Probably,” I echo, and then sigh. “His family’s even more messed up than mine.”
“Well, your dad is Madoc.”
“My parents are dead,” I say.
“Oh,” says the Bomb. But no apology, no condolences. I kind of appreciate that. I learned a long time ago that no amount of apologies would bring my mom and dad back.
“And my sister—never mind.” I shake my head. I really must be addled if I’m spilling my guts to a stranger. Is this Stockholm Syndrome? Is this how it starts? “At least she’s not trying to kill me.”
“It’s another level of family drama,” she agrees. “The Kardashians have nothing on the Greenbriars.”
I try to work out why I feel comfortable around the Bomb. I think her frankness reminds me a bit of Vivi. She never bought into the pretensions of our new life—she wanted out as soon as she was in. And she talks about it like she really is outside of it. The Bomb is like that. She says what she means. She isn’t bowled over by anything.
“How can you do it?” I ask. “How can you do this kind of work for them? Is it really just the money?”
The Bomb blinks at me, her eyes large and luminous in the dark. Her brows draw together, and she looks past me. I seem to have struck a nerve, and for a moment I think she isn’t going to answer my question. Then, at last, she says, “It isn’t just that. The Roach and I—we owe them a lot. I think if… we might not be alive now, if not for what they did.”
“That’s worth kidnapping for? Maybe killing for?”
She looks back down at me. “I know you’ve had shit happen, Jude. I’m not interested in a competition there. But I think Madoc’s kept you from a lot of bad stuff, given you options. Some of us aren’t so lucky.”
“I know that,” I protest. How many Designation Equality Club meetings had Taryn and I attended in our time? Vivi was president for a little while, I think to spite Madoc. “I know it’s not all mansions and parties. And you know, bad stuff can happen in parties and mansions too.”
“Sure. We are the bad stuff.” She flashes me a grin, then says, “Just think about what could have happened if Madoc hadn’t been there to catch you guys. Where you might have ended up. What you might have done to get out of it.”
My stomach twists. I have, of course, thought about that, but it’s an alternate universe that I can’t look directly at, like a solar eclipse. It’s easier to think about two branching possibilities: parents alive, or parents dead with Madoc intervention. Thinking about Madoc never showing, about Taryn and Vivi and I getting put in foster care, maybe separated… it’s so dim and distant.
“I’m not interested in a competition either,” I tell her. “I mean, I am judging you a little for kidnapping us. I will judge you harder if you kill Cardan.”
“No one’s going to kill Cardan,” the Bomb says, patting my shoulder. “You should lie back down. I’m surprised you’ve been upright this long.”
I scowl, but my head is already beginning to feel swimmy, so I settle back into my blankets. “I’m really stubborn.”
“I got that.” The Bomb gathers up her things, but leaves the water bottle within reach. I am grateful.
Just before she can put her hand on the doorknob, I call softly, “If you kill Cardan, I’ll kill you.”
She looks back over her shoulder at me, looking oddly fond. Maybe a gang of kidnappers and thieves respects threats. “Yeah,” she says. “I got that one, too.”
---
Cardan somehow manages to con his way into spending a lot of time outside of the cell. I am not sure how long, because I am curled up toward the wall and barely notice the light from the window wax and wane. But as the day passes his scent starts to go stale and sour, and I pick my head up every time someone opens the door.
It’s always the Bomb, returning to give me more Tylenol or hand me fresh fruit—not fast food, therefore a luxury. It occurs to me then that they kept buying us stuff from a drive-thru or grocery store because they didn’t think they would have us for long and didn’t bother stocking up. But someone must have thought to buy one a bag of mandarins this time, because I am given a couple to nibble on after each dose.
“Boosts the immune system,” the Bomb says when she drops off the first one. She seems in a good mood, probably because the medication has managed to wrestle my fever down to a balmy ninety-nine. Achy and hollow, I just give her a nod. My hands shake when I peel it, but I can peel it, and I’m grateful for that. I have been so humiliated already, and I can probably take more, but I don’t want to.
I slip into a weird daze for the second half of the day. Even though the fever is gone and my cramps are easier to bear, I find myself cursing Cardan’s name. I am pretty sure his presence made my heat worse—just the presence of an alpha, a desirable one, has convinced my body that there’s a chance I might mate, so it’s punishing me worse for abstaining. The longer he’s gone, the more clearheaded I feel, to the extent that my head can clear. And I am angry, at him for intensifying my misery, and at myself, for being like this in the first place.
By the time he returns, any trace of sunlight is gone. He walks slowly, shuffling behind the Bomb. Even as she talks to me and I nod along, sticking the thermometer in my mouth, my eyes track his progress as he settles in his corner.
His hair is damp, his scent shot through with the floral soap from the bathroom. He showered before coming in. I am unreasonably jealous of him. My hair is plastered to the back of my neck with sweat, and my thighs are basically stuck together with dried—anyway, I haven’t left the room all day, not even to pee. I feel like a damp towel someone wrung out and left to dry over the side of a sink.
After I’ve taken the Tylenol, the Bomb hands me a paper napkin with two more pills folded in it. “In case you wake up in the middle of the night,” she explains.
“It’s night?” I ask.
“We sleep in shifts. If there’s an emergency, have Cardan pound on the door.”
“Why me?” Cardan asks. He’s assumed his usual posture, with his leg propped up and his arm balanced casually on his knee. I wonder if the Bomb notices the rigidity in his shoulders, the tension in the line of his mouth. I do.
“I don’t think Jude’s going anywhere anytime soon.”
I sniff derisively, which is a bad move, because I get a fresh whiff of Cardan and am forced to bury my face in my pillow to smother a whimper.
“Point taken,” Cardan says. “Night. Thanks…” I imagine the rest of his sentence curling up and dying at the novelty of him thanking anybody for anything, but he manages to continue. “Thanks for taking care of her.”
The Bomb dusts off her knees as she stands up. “No problem. If she dies, we’re extraordinarily screwed.”
“I know. Still.”
She nods, then leaves. This time, I hear her lock the door behind her. Cardan and I are once again stuck together, alone.
I turn over and curl toward the wall again so I don’t stare. It’s not like heat gives you night vision, but for a couple of seconds he seemed to be a crisp outline in the near darkness of our cell. I don’t want to be tempted. I don’t.
“How, uh.” Cardan clears his throat and tries again, awkwardly. “How was your day?”
“Sucked,” I mutter.
“Yeah.”
“Yours?”
“Sucked less, probably.” He pauses. “But still sucked. I, um, I wanted to check on you.”
“It’s okay.” I shift my head. There’s a twinge in my abdomen, but at least it’s not another full cramp. “Did you learn any neat card tricks?”
“Yeah, actually. The Roach says I’m a fast learner.”
“High praise from a career criminal.”
Cardan chuckles, and my heart jumps. I made him laugh. I don’t know why that affects me the way it does. It must be the heat, another weird side effect. “I should’ve brought the deck in. To show you.”
“If we get through this, you can show me another time.”
“Oh yeah?” I can tell he cracks a smile just by the way his voice picks up. “You’re still gonna want to hang out when we’re out of here?”
I press my lips together to keep from echoing a smile. “I don’t know,” I say to the wall. “Maybe I’ll be too busy with my cool new friends from college to make time for you. And maybe you’ll be too busy hanging out with the Roach. Although that’s honestly an upgrade from your normal crowd.”
“Ouch.”
“He’s not a douchebag alpha,” I point out.
“I don’t know what he is.” I can picture Cardan shaking his head. “I sat next to him for most of the day and I still don’t have a clue. He sounds like an alpha, but he doesn’t really look like one. He doesn’t smell like anything. He and the Bomb seem to have some kind of communication going, but I don’t know if that means they’re mated, or… just close, I guess.”
“I think the Bomb’s an omega,” I say. “Like me. We kind of had a moment earlier.” I screw up my face in thought. “It bothers me that I still can’t get a clear read on her scent, though. Especially now. That’s weird. What do they have to hide?”
“Maybe they’re all betas,” Cardan suggests. “They don’t give off the same pheromones we do.”
I snort. “That’s not possible.”
“Betas exist.”
“Yeah. They’re one in a thousand. The odds that there would be three in one place...”
“Impossibly low, yeah. You’re right.” He sighs. “Well, we’ve seen their faces, but maybe they don’t want to leave scent markers around so they can be tracked that way. That seems like a smart crime thing… to do.”
My lips twitch again. “A ‘smart crime thing?’”
“Oh, like you could do better.”
I snicker, but then the cell falls quiet. We have officially exhausted every subject that will keep us from facing our circumstances, and we know it.
“So,” Cardan says, “now what?”
I don’t know. I cannot imagine spending the night in this cell with him, like this. But I am supposed to be the one with the plans.” “Um, I guess we try to sleep.”
“Right, right. Will it hurt your foot if I take the pillow under it? I’d ask to borrow a blanket, but…”
“No, I get it,” I rush. The blankets are in no condition to be lent, but I’ve left him without any bedding and anywhere to sleep. “Definitely take the pillow.”
There is silence, in which I can imagine him nodding, then the rustle of his clothes as he crawls over to take the pillow propped up under my leg. His hand skims my foot, and it’s like an electric current zings up my body. I hold my breath, waiting for something else to happen, but I just hear him move back to his corner.
“Do you want, um, my sweatshirt?” I offer.
He scoffs, “I don’t think it’ll fit, Duarte.”
I roll my eyes. “You’re such an asshole. To keep your arms warm, because you don’t have a blanket.”
There’s a longer pause than the situation calls for, and then he says, “Yeah, toss it over.”
I make myself sit up so I can unzip it, then ball it up and fling it toward him as hard as I can. I am not feeling very strong, but the room is short, so it lands at his feet anyway. He picks it up and buries his face in it.
“Oh, you pervert,” I scold, even as my stomach does a flip. I am surprised to find I’m not mad. I’m not even annoyed. What had I thought was going to happen when I threw it over to him? It’s saturated with my pheromones.
And my scent. Which he’s supposed to hate.
“I just,” he says, taking another sniff. There’s a fuzzy edge to his voice. “I thought it would help. Since we can’t—I don’t know, I just thought it would help.”
I force myself to lie back down and turn around and not watch, even though I am unbearably curious. My face is hot, and heat gathers between my thighs again. It’s just the pheromones. It’s just the circumstances. If my mind were less addled, maybe I could make more sense of all this, but I cannot.
A minute or so later I hear him shift again. “Yeah, it’s a good blanket,” he says. “Thank you, Jude.”
“Sure.”
Then all is silent again, and I think he has fallen asleep. It seems impossible that he could. I am so weary, but my arousal is skewering me like a hot spike, and I keep listening for him on the other side of the room. There’s no way I can seek relief with him here, and no way I can sleep like this.
“Cardan,” I say, breathily. “Are you awake?”
He whispers back, “Yeah.”
I shift. It’s like parts of my body flare to life at just the sound of his voice. “What do you think would happen if you came over here?”
“You don’t—want that, right?”
I don’t know what I want. I think I am closer to wanting him—to wanting at all—and then the memory of Valerian using his knee to try and wedge my thighs apart comes back. I pull the blankets tighter around me. “This sucks so much.”
“Yeah.”
“Less for you, right?”
“You think so?”
“I don’t know. Aren’t you flooded with adrenaline or whatever it is that theoretically enables you to keep thrusting for days on end?”
Cardan chuckles. “Wow. You must really be far gone if you’re willing to put me and ‘thrusting’ in the same sentence.”
My cheeks warm. “I meant ‘you’ as in ‘alphas.’ Don’t be dumb. And aren’t you used to this?”
“From—oh. The O?”
“Uh-huh.”
“No, that’s different. They alter it somehow, on a chemical level. All of the euphoria and adrenaline, none of the, uh… the aches or the erections lasting longer than four hours. You know, stuff you want to avoid if you’re not in rut for real.”
“Right, makes sense.” I hesitate. “So, you are? I couldn’t tell.”
“What?” He sounds incredulous. “Yeah, yes, I am. Of course I am. There’s like no space between us and no ventilation. It would be impossible for me not to be.”
“Alright, alright.” I squeeze my pillow a little tighter. “You just seem so…”
“So…?”
“Clear,” I finish. “And calm. Calmer than this morning, at least.”
Cardan is quiet for a second before he asks, “Remember this morning, you asked if I was afraid of you?”
My heart thumps. “Yeah?”
“I’m not. I’m afraid of me. I’m afraid of… of...” He grasps for words. “I’m afraid of all the stuff I want to do. Because I’m coming to a realization that’s very painful and you can’t laugh, but I am, and it’s, it’s important—I don’t want to be like Valerian. Or like my brothers. Or even like Locke. I want to be different. I don’t know if there is a different, but I want to be it.”
I am so bewildered that I don’t reply. For as long as I have known Cardan, he’s never been anything other than a bully, a terror, delighting in other people’s suffering, reigning from the top of the food chain. He always seemed to enjoy being an alpha, relish it. I can’t make heads or tails of what he’s telling me now.
Is he saying he doesn’t want to hurt me? He’s never cared before.
But I think about him tucking the blankets around me, gingerly propping my foot up on the pillow this morning, and I wonder.
“It wouldn’t be like Valerian,” I whisper, but he must have fallen asleep, because he says nothing.

Can’t Go Back Part 18
A/N: This chapter got away from me a bit. It’s over 6 thousand words so tuck in guys. I hope you like it. And as I’ve said before, any time a character gets sick in this, it’s nothing more than a flu or common bug. Given this is a Before chapter, COVID didn't exist, but just given the situation currently. I feel like it is important to say that. Just a note on temperature. According to Google 52 degrees F is roughly 11 degrees C. 45 degrees F is roughly 6 degrees C. For my fellow non-USians. Feedback is appreciated as always and much love. -Em
Winter formal was upon us. It was only one day out now. Jeff was still on me about going, like he had been for weeks. I still had no intention of going. And as luck would have it, I had just run into the perfect excuse not to go. I woke up Friday morning to my stomach cramping and churning. Oh god this is awful. I feel like I got hit by a truck. Before I even had time to wake up wake up, I rolled over and grabbed my trashcan. My body shook as I coughed. Sitting up, I flung my legs over the side of my bed. My mom knocked on the door. “Addison? Are you alright honey?”
“Yeah Mom. I’m okay. Just not feeling very well.” She opened the door and peeked inside.
“Let me check your temperature.”
“Can I brush my teeth first?” Mum looked around the room cautiously.
“Of course. I’ll be downstairs. Come down whenever you’re ready.” I nodded and held my stomach.
I went downstairs once my teeth were cleaned and I had rinsed my mouth several times. Mum and dad were in the kitchen. I groaned. The smell of coffee brewing was making me queasy. “I already called the school. You’re staying home today.” Mum said, coming to fawn over me. I waved her off.
“Okay. I’ll call Justin and tell him he needs to get himself to school.” I grabbed a pack of saltines and a Gatorade to take upstairs.
“Feel better.” Dad called after me. I heard him say to mum that it probably wasn’t really that bad. “She should still go to school.” Mum didn’t answer. I changed into a different pair of pyjamas and crawled into bed. My crackers and juice were set neatly on the nightstand by my bed. I grabbed the book I was reading last night. As a last-minute decision, I grabbed my trash can and pulled it closer to the bed.
I called Justin after I got comfortable. “Hello?”
“Morning Justy.”
“Morning Addy.”
“I’m sick.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah. You’ll need to find your own way to school today.”
“I can do that. Are you sure you’re sick? Or are you just trying to get out of going to Formal?”
“I have crackers and Gatorade. I wasn’t even out of bed yet.”
“Oh.” He exclaimed. “Um. Yeah. You stay in bed. And remember to drink water. And dry toast.”
“I will. Can you grab my homework? And tell Jeff Atkins that I’m sorry I won’t get to enjoy the magic of Winter Formal tomorrow.”
“Sure thing. Feel better.”
“Mhmm. Love you.”
“Love you too.” I rolled over in bed and tried to get a little more sleep. It was a useless venture. I spent half an hour tossing and turning. I couldn’t get comfortable. It was too hot with the blankets on. It was too cold with them off. One leg out didn’t feel much better. My head was starting to hurt. My stomach was doing flips and cramping. Frustrated, I threw the covers off and went to the bathroom. The bottle of Tylenol was shoved in the back of the medicine cabinet. I took two of the foil packets and went back to bed.
Briefly, my mind went there. I had a flash of another kind of foil packet. And a flash of a calendar. My eyes widened slightly before I counted. Then I remembered that we hadn’t not used a condom, ever. I had an IUD. We were protected either way for…. I couldn’t think the word. We also hadn’t had sex in a month. And I had gotten my period between then and now. I sighed in relief. That thought did make me realize I hadn’t texted Monty yet. I took my phone again and saw that he had texted me about fifteen minutes ago.
Morning Addison. I swiped left and his message opened.
Morning Montgomery.
You’re up late this morning.
I’ve actually been up.
Oh? Everything okay?
Yes and no.
??
I’m kind of sick. But it’s nothing to worry about.
You sure?
Yeah. I’m alright. Just need to eat my crackers, drink my juice, and sleep. On the plus side, I can get out of going to the dance without lying to Jeff Atkins.
I can come by tonight if you want.
I’ll think about it.
Okay. A few minutes later he sent me another text. Why do you call him Jeff Atkins and not just Jeff?
I dunno. He calls me Addison Hawthorne. No one else does it. It’s kind of just a thing we do.
Can I call you by your full name?
No.
Not even occasionally?
No.
Why?
Is your name Jeff Atkins?
No?
Then there is your answer.
Fine, fine. Feel better, okay?
I’ll try.
I’ll text you later baby.
Mmkay. The Tylenol I took was starting to kick in and my eyelids were getting heavy. Before I could drop it, I put my phone on the nightstand. I woke up again around noon. My stomach was feeling a little better, so I sat up and ate a few crackers slowly. The medicine had worn off by now. I grabbed my phone and scrolled through my missed notifications for a bit. Nothing too interesting had happened. I sighed heavily and tossed my phone to the side of my bed.
My book was more interesting than I expected it to be, and soon enough I was almost done. The tri-tone buzz of my phone distracted me. I rested the book in my lap and grumbled to myself. “Who’s texting me now?” It was Jeff Atkins.
Hey Addison Hawthore. Justin tells me you’re sick. I hope you aren’t trying to just avoid the dance.
Jeff Atkins. I would NEVER. I am definitely sick. Doesn’t seem like anything major though. Probably be at school Monday. I trust you will give me a very thorough report on all things Clay Jensen and Hannah Baker?
Glad to hear. Leah says feel better by the way. I’ll find you.
Tell her thank you. Now. I don’t want to be rude, but I’m almost done my book.
See you Monday Addison. I didn’t answer him. I texted Monty instead.
Don’t worry about coming over tonight. I should be fine by Sunday. I’ll see you Monday.
Sounds good.
The rest of the day I lounged in bed. My mum came in to check on me when she got home. Saturday was much of the same as Friday. I stayed in bed. I read another book. I slept. My illness was doing better. Not well enough to go to the dance, but I could handle toast which was a good sign. Justin called me while he was getting ready at Bryce’s.
“Hey Justin, what’s up?”
“Getting ready with Bryce and the guys.” I could hear the boys roughhousing in the background and Justin’s voice seemed far away. He must have had me on speaker.
“Hi boys.”
“Hey.” They called back.
“You stuck me with him tonight.”
“I’m sick Bryce. I would not be very much fun or help at the dance tonight.”
“You say you’re sick.” Bryce kidded back. He must be in a good mood.
“Would you like me to describe to you in detail what I spent my day doing yesterday?”
“Not really.”
“Didn’t think so. Now boys.”
“Yeah Addy?” Justin asked.
“I need all of your attention.”
“We’re listening.” Zach laughed.
“Oh no. Is she going to give us the lecture?”
“What lecture?” Anders asked.
“Yes. She is.” I said. “Please try to keep the shenanigans to a minimum.”
“But they’re fun.” Justin complained.
“So is not getting arrested. Do not add to the population. Remember that is often a permanent commitment.  However, I do support the right to choose. Do not fight anyone tonight. And please, for the love of God, if you are going to drink, do not spike the punch bowl. Do not be that guy. And don’t be messy drunk. I want to hear no stories about messy drunk athletes come Monday. And another thing, do not drink and drive. If you need a ride, my mum is perfectly happy to go get you and take you home.”
“She took the fun out of a dance in two minutes.” Someone grumbled.
“That was not me taking the fun out. I’m more than okay with some shenanigans. I encourage some. Please have fun for me. I just don’t want you getting anyone pregnant. You’re all old enough to go to the drugstore or the corner store and buy yourselves some damn condoms. If I can go do it, so can you. As for the drinking and driving thing, a DUI is bad. Especially when you’re underage. My mum likes Justin. So she will gladly give someone a ride if they need.”
“Wait. Wait, wait, wait. Back up. You have condoms?” Bryce asked.
“I’m not the Virgin Mary.”
“Who could you possibly be having sex with?”
“None of your business. And I swear Bryce if you say Justin.” I laughed. I may have said too much.
“You’ll what?”
“She won’t anything. I will.” Justin laughed.
“Oh! One more thing. Don’t screw up Clay’s night.”
“Fine. We won’t. Gotta go, bye.” Bryce said. I could hear him grumbling before Justin hung up. “Wonder how far she’ll go with Jensen, hey Justy?” I rolled my eyes. How can he go from fun and not horrible to a disgusting pig in thirty seconds flat?
By Monday, I was back to feeling like myself. I grabbed a soft cream sweater from my closet and paired it with a floral skirt. A worn in pair of black combat boots and silver studs rounded out the look. I left my hair down to let it air dry without a weird kink in it. Bounding down the stairs, I smiled brightly at my parents. “Morning mum. Morning dad.”
“Morning sweetie.” My mum laughed brightly. My dad looked at me strangely.
“You’re awfully happy this morning.” My smile faltered slightly.
“Well, I’m not physically sick today. I think that warrants being happy. And it’s the last few days before winter break.” There was a voice in the back of my head I tried to ignore. I was happy. I plastered on a smile and grabbed a packet of oatmeal. Silently, I warmed my milk and stirred my breakfast. My parents were going over their schedules for the day. It was just about grade deadline for mum, so she had a stack of tests and papers in her office. Dad was already prepping for tax season in a couple of months. The office at work was stacked too, I’m sure.
“I’m going to take this to school.” I mumbled.
At school, I grabbed my cup of oatmeal to eat before class. “Peaches and cream. Interesting.”
“Jesus.” I gasped. “Morning Monty.”
“Morning Addy.” I began walking to my locker. He fell into step beside me.
“Did you need something?” I was sure people were watching us.
“No. Just wanted to say hi.”
“Okay? You know we are at school, right?”
“Yes. We have chemistry together. Is it really so bad to walk to your locker together?”
“I don’t know Monty.”
“For all anyone knows, I’m looking for Bryce. Who will probably be with Justin. Who will be at your locker.”
“I guess.” I sighed. I handed him my cup of oatmeal. “If you’re going to follow me to my locker, hold this while I get my spoon.” Pulling my bag around me, I took the spoon from the front pocket. Monty handed back my breakfast for me to eat while we walked.
“Peaches and cream oatmeal.” He muttered.
“Huh?”
“Nothing. Just making a mental note.” He smirked. I could see the smile behind his eyes though.
“It was on sale. It was this or plain and plain oatmeal is….”
“Plain.”
“Exactly.”
We made it to my locker, where it just so happened that Justin was waiting for me. With my least favorite white boy in tow. “Hey Justin. Walker.”
“Addy.” Bryce nodded.
“Feeling better?”
“Much. What did I miss Friday?”
“Not a whole lot.” Justin shrugged.
“A better question would be what did we miss?” Bryce asked, looking between Monty and I.
“I was on my way in when I saw her pull in. Figured I’d stop and tell her about what she missed in chem.”
“Which apparently wasn’t much.” I shrugged, scraping the last of my breakfast up. “I need to go to class. I expect a full report on what I missed at the dance at lunch.”
“Jeff will give you one. Don’t worry.” Justin laughed. “You’re awfully invested in Clay and Hannah.”
“I could have been invested in you and Hannah. But….” I looked at Bryce briefly. “Here we are.”
“I don’t think she put out for him, if that’s what you’re wondering.” Monty added.
“Gross.”
“Don’t think he would even know how.” Bryce laughed.
“And I’m leaving. Be nice boys.”
My classes were abuzz with talk of the Winter Formal. Mostly talking about what so and so wore, or who such and such was dancing with, or that one song Tony played that went like this or that. Clearly, I hadn’t missed much. Apparently, Jessica had had one or four too many nips off Bryce’s flask. I rolled my eyes internally. I mean, at least the boys weren’t messy. By the time lunch came, I was excited to hear about anything that wasn’t the dance. I knew, of course, that wouldn’t be the case. But still.
Sliding into my usual seat next to Justin, I placed my head on the table. “What’s eating you?” Scott asked.
“Nothing. I’m just bored of hearing about the dance.”
“It wasn’t that bad. And you haven’t heard Jeff’s retelling of Clay Jensen and Hannah Baker’s dance.”
“I want to hear about that. And then nothing else.” He nodded in understanding.
“Seriously though, are you feeling okay?”
“Yeah. Just had a long weekend is all. Guess it knocked more out of me than I thought.” I heard him hum. Jeff laughed jovially as he sat down. How can one man be so damn happy all the time?
“You missed quite the dance on Saturday, Addison.”
“It seems that way. Though, anything would be better than what I spent the weekend doing.”
“Fair. You’re feeling better?”
“Yeah. Just tired now.”
“I bet. Now. About the dance. More specifically, Clay and Hannah at the dance.”
“Yes. And then no more dance talk please.”
“Okay. So, Clay was being a wallflower.”
“As usual.”
“Yes. But he was sitting on the bleachers across the gym from Hannah. And he waved and nodded at her. When I told him to go, he was all ‘I can’t dance’ and so I was like ‘no one can dance. It’s a dance.’”
“Of course. No one likes the ones who can dance.”
“That’s what I said! He was awkward as hell and then they were cute. Danced around like idiots. Had the best time. Leah thought it was fantastic. I was waiting for the slow song that was coming. Or I hoped it was. And then it did. They were awkward again.”
“Right.” I adjusted my position and leaned in to listen to him better.
“Hey gu-.” Justin said, sitting down.
“Shh.” Charlie cut him off. “Jeff is telling a story.”
“They almost kissed.”
“Almost?”
“But then Jess….”
“Ah, this part of the story I know. She was messy. And Hannah cleaned it up.”
“Yes. But that was the dance. Good time.”
“I’m sorry I missed it.” The boys around me spent the rest of lunch having their own conversations. Or giving me their own rundown of the dance. I tuned most of that out. It was hard to pretend not to notice the small glances Monty was sending my way. I sent a few his way too.
Christmas break, finals, and January flew by. Before any of us knew it, it was February. Valentine’s Day was fast approaching. Which, if you didn’t know from looking at the calendar, you certainly knew by the annual Oh My Dollar Valentines posters. There were little heart shaped boxes of chocolate at all the stores in town. The price of roses soared exponentially. I rolled my eyes as I passed one the first day of February. Justin tried to get me to buy one that day.
“No. I’m not interested in paying for cheer camp.”
“You’re always on my ass about school spirit.”
“Yeah. Because like it or not, you and your friends run this school. School spirit is not paying for the wonderful cause of sending the squad to cheer camp.”
“Fine.” He grinned mischievously at me. I watched him reach into his pocket as we passed one of the many tables lining the halls. “Two Dollar Valentines please.” My eyes widened.
“Justin. No.”
“Oh but it’ll be fun.” He laughed.
“I don’t care.” I couldn’t help but smile. He held it out to me, but I shook my head. “No way.”
“Suit yourself. I know you well enough to fill it out for you anyways.” Justin grinned and stuck his tongue out at me. You little shit. I reached out to grab the paper from him. I was going to return it. He held it above his head. I tried to grab it again and he waved his arm around.
“Give it to me.” I laughed.
“Nope. Get taller and maybe I’ll consider it.”
“I can’t do that.”
“Well then I guess you won’t be getting the survey.” I huffed at him. He lowered his arms and I tried to take it again. He pushed my hand away and took off running. “It’ll be an exciting surprise.” Justin yelled as he ran.
“Justin Foley!” I yelled back. I love that boy. But sometimes I just want to…. Oh. What am I going to tell Monty?I sighed and turned around, intending to cut Justin off at his first class and steal the stupid survey from him. When I turned however, I collided with someone.
“We should really stop running into each other like this. People might think we are together or something.” Monty said.
“Or they’ll think you have a thing for me. Since you seem to be the one who always approaches me.”
“That is definitely a possibility.” He handed me my keys. “Might need these later. Wouldn’t want someone finding them and trying to use them.” He started to walk away backwards. I followed after him.
“I highly doubt someone would try to steal an ’09 Camry.”
“Never know.”
“Besides. It’s Evergreen County. Nothing ever happens here.”
“True. I’ll see you at lunch?”
“Yeah. I need to have some words with Justin Foley.”
“Uh oh. Trouble in paradise?”
“Maybe.” I rose a brow. Monty gave me a funny look. “I’ll explain later.”
At lunch I stopped Justin in the hall on the way to the cafeteria. Pulling him into an empty classroom, I locked the door. “I need that survey back Justin.”
“Why?”
“Because I have no interest in going on a valentines date with someone. You know I hate Valentine’s Day.”
“It could be fun.”
“I highly doubt that.”
“Well, you have thirteen days to change your mind.”
“What do you mean?”
“I submitted it on the way to second period.” I blinked at him. Did he just say…?
“You what?”
“I submitted it already. You’ll be receiving a list of ‘promising matches’ on Valentine’s Day.” Oh no. Throwing my head back, I sighed very heavily.
“I hate you.” I groaned.
“I love you too Addy.” Justin brushed past me to leave. “I’ll save you a seat?”
“Nope. That’s okay. I need a break from the testosterone today.”
“Okay.” As soon as he was gone, I texted Monty.
Hey. I need to talk to you. Can you meet me in the library?
Yeah. Bring a book?
Please. My locker was on the way, so I grabbed my books for the rest of the day.
There was a table free in the back of the room. I snagged it so Montgomery and I could have some privacy. He found me a little while later. I was pretending to be taking notes. In actuality, I was doodling and trying not to think about his reaction to Justin’s little stunt. Or reactions. “What’s going on?” He asked as he sat down.
“Hi to you too.”
“Sorry. Hi. What’s going on?”
“So don’t freak out.”
“Don’t start with don’t freak out and I won’t freak out.”
“Justin uh,” I paused.
“Justin? What?”
“Justin filled out and submitted a Dollar Valentine for me.” I quickly added, “I didn’t ask him to. He just bought it and did it. I was going to get it back from him at lunch, but he submitted it on his way to second.” I looked up. Monty was staring at me. And he was… what is he doing? And then his lip twitched. He was trying not to laugh. “What?”
“That’s what this is about? That is what was so urgent?”
“Yes?”
“The fact that Justin Foley filled out a Dollar Valentine for you?”
“Yes?” I was extremely confused.
“Addison. I really don’t care if he filled out a stupid survey for you. Are you going to go on the date?”
“Of course not!”
“Then I don’t give a shit.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yeah.”
“That’s good.” I was still a little hesitant to say anything. “Oh. I should probably mention. I hate Valentine’s Day.”
“Really?” He frowned in confusion.
“Yes. Is that really so hard to believe?”
“Honestly? Yes.”
“Why?”
“You’re a romantic.”
“I know. Which is why I hate Valentine’s Day. It’s the least romantic holiday. If you want to do something nice for me, or get me flowers, show me that you like me, do it on a random day. Not when you have to because it’s a Hallmark holiday.” I was careful not to say the word love. It may have been five months, which is a long time in high school, but we weren’t there yet.
“So, you’re a romantic who hates Valentine’s Day. Okay. Coffee date though?”
“Sure. But not because of what day it is.”
“No. Of course not.” Monty winked at me and then got up to leave. “Come find me after school.” I nodded.
“I’m going to stay here and make Justin sweat a little.”
The next couple of weeks passed slowly. I had forgiven Justin for filling out a Valentine for me a couple of days after he submitted it. After school on the thirteenth, I ran to Walplex to get ingredients for macarons. I browsed the aisles in search of almond flour and raspberry flavouring. Before I left the lot, I texted Monty. Turns out you’re worth it after all. He was busy with practice. I didn’t expect an answer any time soon.
At home, I unloaded my ingredients and put the carton of egg whites in a bowl of lukewarm water to come to room temperature without overheating them. “Hey Siri. Play State Champs on Spotify.”
“Playing State Champs.” I sang along quietly while I went about making my macarons. I said very kind and loving things to the batter aloud. In my head, I was swearing at them with words that would make a sailor blush. He really is worth it.
Dad came home while I was piping the batter onto the Silpat.
“Hi.”
“Hi. What are you doing?”
“Making macarons for my friends.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow.” I shrugged. Dad scoffed and shook his head. “What?”
“Nothing.” He snapped. My face didn’t react. Inside, I felt the familiar sensation of becoming smaller and my insides closing in on themselves. Just ignore him. It’s okay. You’re okay.
“Okay.” I replied meekly. Instead of responding, he went and shut himself in the office. I sighed softly to myself and started on my macaron filling while the cookie batter sat on the tray.
Once my cookies were baked and cooled after dinner, I began to fill them. I picked a Wilton number 18 tip, a small star, and piped chocolate ganache around a raspberry on half of the cookies. When they were all filled, I topped each one. Then I carefully placed them in a container and grabbed several napkins. I also put five each in two disposable aluminum containers. One for Justin. And one for Montgomery. “They won’t notice if one is missing.” I muttered to myself. I took a bite, and it was perfect. Not hollow. Still had a chew to it. The outside was crisp. The slightly bittersweet filling complemented the sweetness of the cookie Perfect. I moaned softly. Setting the containers in the fridge so they didn’t melt overnight, I went upstairs to take a shower and get ready for bed.
The next morning it was Valentine’s Day. As much as I hated the holiday, I wasn’t opposed to dressing up. I dug around my closet for something to wear. I had a red circle skirt in mind. I just needed to find something to wear with it. “Hey Siri, what’s the weather today?”
“It’s currently cloudy and forty-five degrees. The high is expected to be fifty-two degrees and the low will be forty-five degrees.”
“Thank you.” Only fifty-two. I can wear a sweater. I pulled out a couple. The red cable knit was too match-y. The plain black was too plain. My last option was a black sweater with white hearts. This is nice. Shrugging it on, I pulled on a pair of black tights to cover my legs. Topping off the look with my favourite diamond studs and a simple charm bracelet, I checked the clock. I had time to paint my nails.
Soon, I was ready for school. I redid my nails in a nice nude shade. Knowing I was going on a date today, I went quite neutral on the makeup. I wanted my skirt and top to be the focus of my look. My parents were putting their breakfast away when I went downstairs. “Morning guys.”
“Morning sweetie.” We exchanged pleasantries with each other. “You look lovely Addison.”
“Thanks Mum. May not like today, but it’s an excuse to wear this sweater.”
“Very true.” She kissed my cheek gently, so her lipstick didn’t transfer.
“Why are there three containers in the fridge Addison?” Oh crap. Uh….
“Because one is for Justin, one is for my friends to share, and the other one is for me when my friends inevitably leave me with none.”
“I see.” He didn’t sound convinced. Or interested for that matter. When does he ever sound interested? He called after me as I was leaving. “Remember your mother and I are going out tonight for dinner and date night.”
“I know.” I smiled at him. “You kids have fun. I’ll see you in the morning.” I smiled brighter when he dipped my mom and kissed her. Gross but so cute.
“I love you, Margot.”
“I love you too, Brooks.” My mom replied.
My friends were waiting at my locker when I got there. “Hey guys. What’s going on?”
“Justin said you were bringing macarons to school.” Charlie grinned.
“Ah yes. You’re here for snacks. Of course. Hey Clay.”
“Hey Addy.” I shooed the boys away from my locker so I could put my bag in and take out the large container.
“These are for sharing.”
“We know. We can share.” Bryce nodded. Sure, you can. I rolled my eyes playfully. Then I set about passing each of the plethora of boys gathered around my locker a napkin. And then I gave them one macaron each. Jeff got two so he had one to give to Leah.
“Why does he get two?” Luke complained.
“Because he has a girlfriend. And I like her. Do any of you have girlfriends I like?” My eyes shifted to Monty minutely. He smirked softly and quirked a brow quickly. No one seemed to notice. “No? Then you get one for now. You can have more at lunch.” The bell rang. The boys began to disperse to their respective classes. I grabbed Justin and gave him his container.
“You’re the best.” He grinned and kissed my temple when he pulled me in for a hug.
“So are you. Now go get educated.” I texted Monty as I walked to class. I’ll give you yours after school.
I think I like being worth it. This is delicious. Why don’t you make these all the time?
Make them with me sometime. You’ll see.
On my way to lunch, I stopped to pick up my Dollar Valentine. “Hey Sheri.”
“Addison! Oh my gosh. When I heard you filled out a survey, I almost didn’t believe it.”
“Justin did it.”
“Oh. At least he knows you. I hope you get better matches than I did.”
“We’ll see.” I waited while she printed out my list. I glanced at it when she handed it to me.
Andrew B.
Cody K.
Daniel R.
Justin F.
Bryce W.
“Oh. My. God.” I laughed.
“What?”
“I matched with Justin. And Bryce Walker. How the hell?”
“Well, Justin knows you best. And he did the survey for you.” Sheri shrugged.
“Okay fair. But Bryce?”
“I don’t have an answer there.” We both laughed and I left to go to the cafeteria to join my friends. While I walked, I called Justin.
“Hey Addy, what’s up?”
“Hey Valentine. Have you picked up your matches yet?”
“I’m just looking at them now. I was just about to call you to see who you matched with.”
“Well, I think you’re my best match.”
“No one else up to your standards?” I was behind him now.
“Nope.” He turned and hung up. “But I have very important plans tonight, so I’ll need a rain check.”
“No problem. Your annual Bones marathon?” Sure.
“You know it. Next season is the last one.”
“Since I can’t take you out tonight, at least let me escort you to lunch.” He held his arm out to me. I grasped it dramatically.
“Such a gentleman.” We laughed hysterically.
Montgomery loved the macarons. We met at Monet’s after school to get coffee to go because it was crowded. Thankfully no one questioned us if they saw us. They were too wrapped up in their own dates to be concerned about us. Our date was wonderful. There was no chocolate in heart shaped boxes. There weren’t any overpriced roses. Just the two of us spending time together privately. Since my parents were out for the foreseeable future, he came back to my place. We hung out for a bit until he had to leave to avoid my parents. All in all, it was a pretty good Valentine’s Day. He found it hysterical that Justin and I were matched for Dollar Valentines.
Spring had sprung in Evergreen in mid-March. By the time April rolled around, flowers were in full bloom again and it was getting warmer and warmer. On a particularly nice Saturday, I woke up in an unusually good mood. I looked out the window and it was sunny, not a cloud in the sky. As I was sitting in bed, I looked around my room. My camera caught my eye on my bookshelf. Maybe today is the day I introduce Monty to my camera. I got ready but didn’t get dressed. It was still early for a Saturday. And I knew Monty was a big fan of sleep.
After an hour or so of putzing around in my room, I decided to call him. “Morning Addy.” He answered. His voice was still thick with sleep. I smiled.
“Good morning sunshine.” I heard him shifting in bed.
“You’re chipper this morning.”
“It’s nice out. It’s finally spring.”
“It is.” He smiled.
“I was wondering if you had plans today?” I eyed my camera.
“No, I don’t think so. What did you have in mind Bookworm?”
“I thought I could introduce you to my other hobby Casanova.”
He gasped dramatically. “You mean to tell me you like things other than books?”
“Yes.” I laughed. “What do you say?”
“I’m in. When and where?”
“The park by the docks? Say, one o’clock?”
“Sure thing.”
“Wear something comfortable.”
“Okay. I’ll see you in a few hours.”
“Okay. Bye.”
“Bye baby.”
My parents were in the office working. It was ten am on a Saturday. But it was getting close to exam time for my mom, so she was busy. Tax season was ending, so dad was busy. I opened my bedroom door and called into the house. “I’m going out later. I don’t know how long I’ll be out.”
“Okay honey. Have fun.”
“That’s nice.” I sighed and closed my door. After a quick shower I got dressed. I knew I would probably be moving around a lot today, so I picked a pair of leggings and a loose black t-shirt from American Eagle. I really should go get one of these in every colour. They’re the best shirts. I threw a random cardigan on my bed. It was later joined by my wallet and camera.
Sitting down to do my hair and makeup, I decided to just do a quick French braid. It kept the hair out of my face. I contemplated my makeup for a while. I still had plenty of time to spare. Pressing play on my Spotify and it picked up on a random Beartooth song. Artist Radios are always interesting. I hummed and tapped along with the music while I dug through my vanity. I didn’t have an excessive amount of makeup. Maybe I had a little too much lipstick, but it’s my favourite type of makeup. I kept everything but my lipstick fairly light and neutral. My skin was actually nice today so I could just use concealer and set it. With the rest of my makeup done, I dug through my slightly embarrassing amount of lipstick. “I’m feeling bold today. Red?” I asked myself in the mirror. “Red.” I nodded. I was ready to go now. I chucked the tube of lipstick in my wallet.
It was close to lunch so I texted Monty. Did you want me to make a couple of sandwiches or something?
Sure. I went downstairs and dug through the cheese drawer.
I have turkey, ham, and some other white meat. Possibly chicken?
Ham is okay.
Cheddar okay?
Yup. I made our sandwiches. I knew how he liked his sandwiches now. Placing them in the fridge, I ran upstairs for my camera, camera bag, and now my purse. Our lunch was set on top of my wallet. I threw an ice pack in to keep everything cold and food safe. A couple of snacks joined in before I grabbed my keys.
“I’m leaving now. I’ll see you later.” I called.
“Okay.” My parents called together.
At the park, I met Monty over by a tree. He was wearing jeans and a plain white t-shirt. No flannel. That took me by surprise. He looked damn good though. I stopped on the way over for a couple of coffees from Starbucks. “Hey Casanova.”
“Hey Bookworm.”
“Lunch now or later?”
“Now is good. I could eat.” I rolled my eyes. “What?”
“You’re always hungry.”
“I’m a growing boy.” He defended.
“If you grow anymore, you’ll give Dempsey a run for his money.”
“Never know. They say boys grow again around nineteen.”
“Oh god. I don’t know if I could handle you getting taller.” He laughed.
“Might have to. Never know.” I looked down to hide my blush. I didn’t read into what he said. He was right. You never knew where you could end up. We talked quietly while we ate. Monty regaled me with stories of the baseball game I “missed” yesterday.
“Sounds like a nail biter.” I smiled.
“You don’t like baseball, do you?”
“No.” I replied quickly.
“That mean you’ll never come to a game?”
“Quite possibly. I will go to as many football games as I can though.”
“Deal. Now. What did you want to show me?”
“This.” I said as a pulled my camera out of the bag.
“Oh?”
“Yes. I told you I like photography.”
“I remember. I’m just surprised it took you this long to show it to me.”
“Good things come to those who wait.”
“Okay. I won’t question you.”
“Don’t worry. I’m not Tyler. I keep my photography to when people know about it and can see it.”
“I kind of figured.” I spent some time showing him my camera. It was the first thing I had spent any big amount of money on. I got it a few years ago. I saved up birthday and Christmas money. I never really got an allowance so that’s what I had to work with. I looked out at the water and stood up. Holding my hand out to my boyfriend, I nodded in the direction of the dock.
“Come on.” Montgomery took my hand and we walked to the railing. I examined the water for a few moments quietly. Then I lifted my camera and started shooting. It was beautiful. “It’s nicer at sunset. But daytime shoots are so fun.” I could feel him watching me. A bird was flying close by, so I snapped a picture. “It’s beautiful.” I said softly.
“Very beautiful.”
We wandered around the park together for a few hours. Occasionally we would stop to sit and just people watch. During one of these stops I noticed Monty had turned to look out over the water. The way the light was hitting his face was perfect. I quickly snapped a photo. I wanted to preserve the peaceful look on his face forever. Lord knows the boy could use some peace. He turned to me when he heard the click of the camera. Luckily it didn’t ruin the shot. He was smiling. I couldn’t help myself. I took a quick scan of the area and kissed him. When we pulled away, he quickly wiped the lipstick off. I laughed and dug around in my purse for a makeup wipe. “Here. Use this.”
“Thanks.” I touched up my lipstick. While I was doing that, he took my camera from my lap and snapped a photo of his own. “I’m not very good at this, so don’t be shocked if it comes out crappy.”
“I’m sure it’s great. Here, let me see.” He handed it back. I scrolled to the photo. It was really nice. “This is great Monty.” He nodded but didn’t say anything. Instead, he threw his arm over my shoulder and pulled me in close to him. I rested my head on his shoulder. Turning the camera around, I snapped a picture of the two of us. It wasn’t exactly a candid, but it was as close as you could get with a selfie. We called it a night around six o’clock. He had to get home for dinner. I had some homework to do. I also wanted to get our photos transferred as soon as possible.
I walked into the house smiling to myself. Today had been a really great day. I felt good. “What the hell is all over your face?” My dad asked. Not a hello. No other acknowledgement.
“What do you mean?” I reached up to touch my face. Is there something on my face?
“You really caked it on today, didn’t you?” Oh. My makeup. I’d forgotten that he didn’t see me before I left.
“I put on a little makeup. I’m trying to use up a red lipstick.” I shrugged. The small feeling had begun to grow again.
“It makes you look like a prostitute.” Wow. That escalated quickly. My good mood vanished. I set my face. I wouldn’t let him see that he had hurt me.
“Thanks Dad. That was my goal today actually.”
“Don’t take that kind of tone with me, young lady.”
“Okay, whatever. Where’s Mum?”
“At the grocery store.”
“Okay. I’ll be upstairs.”
“Take off the paint while you’re up there.” He called after me.
When I reached my room, I closed the door and slid down it. Not wanting him to know I was crying I went to the bathroom and grabbed a towel. I curled up on my bed and sobbed into the towel. I didn’t care that there would be makeup stains on it. My phone buzzed on the floor. Sitting up, I stood to grab it. It was Monty. I want to see those photos baby.
Okay. I’ll send them over when I’m done.
Looking forward to it.
Yeah.
If I forgot to say, you looked pretty today.
Thanks. I wasn’t sure I believed him after what my dad said.
Any other mystery hobbies you want to show me?
Don’t think so.
Not even the art of knitting?
Maybe.
You okay Addy?
Yeah. Just tired.
Okay. I’ll talk to you later then.
Sure. I didn’t answer his next text. It was too much effort to do it now. I just wanted to lay in bed and be sad.

Ocean Eyes - Part 7
Tumblr media
When we finally arrived at Sue's house Chris walked with me to the front door... i nearly tripped at one point but luckily he managed to grab my arm and keep me upright! I had whispered a quiet 'thanks' before knocking lightly on her front door. Sue opened the door ushering us inside and leading the way to the living room where i saw Mason curled up on the sofa. He was asleep but he looked white and sweaty, there was a bowl on the floor beside his head incase he was sick again.
"He hasn't been asleep long, i think he wore himself out crying"
"Chris can you get Mason please? I can't carry him like this...."
"Yeah sure, i got him" he quickly moved forward and scooped Mason up into him arms.
"Mama...." Mason moaned looking around for me.
"Im right here baby, your dads gonna carry you out to the car".
"God you weren't kidding bout that fever" Chris added looking down at Mason in concern.
"Im gonna get him home, thanks for watching him Sue"
"Sure thing hon, hope he feels better soon. Here, take the bowl incase he gets sick on the drive home" she smiled passing me the plastic bowl that had been next to Mason.
Tumblr media
The drive home i had Mason cradled against me as he slept, the seat belt going around the both of us being as we had no car seat in Chris's car!!
God i felt like a crappy mom tonight!
When we got home i sat with Mason on the sofa and stripped him down to his underwear to try and cool him down.
"Chris could you get me a cold washcloth please, there should be some in the pile of laundry on the table"
"Sure" he rushed off to grab the cloth, Mason was just laying against my chest, whimpering slightly.
"Here you go" Chris passed me the cloth and sat beside us "i got him some water too, he should be drinking plenty of fluids"
"Thanks" i smiled before folding the cloth and laying it over Mason's forehead. He moaned at the coldness but soon settled again clinging onto me, it didn't take long until he was asleep. I sighed in relief and carefully moved forward in my seat so i could lay him down.... i was desperate for the bathroom!! Mason stirred and held on tighter, for such a little thing he had a grip on him.
"Can you try taking him i really need to pee!" I looked at Chris with desperate eyes. He chuckled and managed to pry Mason off of me and into his arms.
While i was in the bathroom i wiped off my make up and tied my hair up before getting changed into my pyjama's.... it was gonna be a long night. Once i was done i headed to the kitchen and made coffee, hopefully it would help sober me up a bit more.
"Ah fuck!" I cursed as i sloshed the coffee onto the floor while making my way back to the living room "i made coffee, you might still have some left if you're lucky"
"Thanks" Chris looked up and smiled, i didn't miss the way he looked me up and down either.
"Does he still feel hot? If his temperature doesn't start to go down soon we'll have to try a lukewarm bath maybe give him some Tylenol...."
"Yeah his still hot, but it doesn't seem to be getting worse"
"This is so unlike him, Mason never gets sick. I can literally count on one hand the amount of times his been sick" i shook my head "i'm so close to freaking out right now you have no idea...."
"Calm down sweetheart, he'll be fine"
"Thank you for staying with us, i probably would've been calling my mom in hysterics if you hadn't been here"
"There's no where else id rather be" he said looking down at Mason lovingly.
"Right.... i should probably text Scott let him know we're home" i got up to grab my phone from my purse and started a text to Scott. We had dropped him at his place on the way to collect Mason.
There was a message from Derek on my phone too which i quickly skimmed, he was saying how much he enjoyed meeting me and wanted to know if i wanted to get dinner with him sometime!! I decided i'd reply to him in the morning and put my phone on the table, Mason was the only thing i could deal with right now.
Tumblr media
I applied a fresh cloth to Masons forehead and checked his temperature, slowly but surely it was going down. I sat beside him and Chris on the sofa and sighed in relief.
"Looks like his fever is easing off finally" i said yawning and letting my head fall back against the sofa, we'd been up for hours now keeping watch on Mason.
"Yeah, thank god" Chris mumbled as he carefully tried to move Mason in his arms.
"You want me to take him?"
"No no, i'm good, my arm has fallen asleep is all" he smiled.
"You sure? i don't mind...."
"We're all good".
We sat in silence with the TV on low for some background noise and i couldn't help but look at Chris and how natural he was at being a dad.
"You should get some sleep, you look exhausted" Chris suddenly said interrupting my internal thoughts!
"You trying to tell me i look like shit Chris?" I asked raising my eyebrows at him.
"What?? No!! I didn't mean that..."
"Im fucking with you relax" i chuckled shaking my head.
"You looked beautiful tonight" i heard him say quietly, maybe i wasn't supposed to hear him but i did.
"Its amazing what you can do with some make up and clothes that aren't sweats and t-shirts"
"You look beautiful without make up even wearing your sweats and a t-shirt, i just meant that you looked good. I personally prefer this version of you"
"Haha, now i know your just trying to make me feel better....i'm a mess!"
"Prettiest girl i know" he said giving me that smirk of his.... my god damn weakness!!
"Are you just saying this because you think i'm drunk and wont remember?? Because i'll have you know i have mostly sobered up by this point"
"Im well aware, i just..... never mind. You should try and get some sleep".
I nodded agreeing with him, the conversation was about to turn awkward and i wasn't ready for that!
"Wake me up if Mason needs me...?"
"Of course".
When i woke up again i had somehow ended up cuddled up against Chris! He had his arm around me, my head resting on his chest, Mason still sleeping on his other side. To anyone who saw us and didn't know better we looked like the perfect little family. I felt myself start to panic..... i shouldn't have let myself get this close to him! It was too easy to fall back into that comfortable routine we always had..... but we didn't have that anymore, at least i didn't think we did. I carefully eased away from him making sure he was still sleeping and made a quick exit to the kitchen, he didn't need to know about this!
As i started making some coffee and toast i heard the soft voice of my baby boy. As i stuck my head round the door i saw he was sitting up talking with Chris, he looked so much better this morning thank god.
"Where's mom?" I heard him ask and i stepped into the living room giving him a smile.
"Im right here bud, how you feeling?" I asked as i sat in front of them on the coffee table, i reached over to hold the back of my hand against his forehead "looks like your fever is almost gone"
"Im hungry"
"I bet! But its dry toast for you buddy. You've gotta go easy for a little while.... are you still feeling sick?"
"No, not anymore"
"Okay thats good!".
"Dad are you staying for breakfast?" Mason asked.
"Um...."
"Pleaseeee" Mason begged looking at him with those eyes that were exactly like his dads, Chris looked at me waiting for my say so.
"Its fine with me, if you have time..."
"I do! Yeah of course!" He said quickly nodding his head with a huge smile.
Tumblr media
After we had all eaten Chris took Mason for his bath after Mason insisted he go with his dad. While they were gone i sent a text to Scott with an update and saw a missed call from Hannah, i sat at the kitchen table and quickly called her back.
"Hey! Hows Mace?? My mom said you had to come get him last night"
"Yeah it was eventful, he had a fever and was being sick" i sighed "Chris stayed to help out with Mason... i had had so much to drink Han"
"You let him stay..."
"To help with Mason yeah"
"Hmmm of you say so" she laughed
"Shut up, what happened to you last night, huh?? You disappeared with Troy"
"I know, im sorry but did you see him?? I knew you were okay with Scott. So what about you and Derek?? He seemed very interested"
"He was nice" i nodded "he texted me last night but i haven't had a chance to reply yet"
"But your gonna right??"
"Yeah...."
"Y/N text him back!! That man was gorgeous!!"
"I will"
"Don't make me come round there"
"Oh god Han, your so pushy" i laughed.
"Only because i love you"
"I love you too, i gotta go though i'll speak to you later".
When i walked into the living room Mason was sat on the sofa watching cartoons and Chris was gathering his things.
"Your leaving already?"
"Yeah i've got a meeting at 11:00am..."
"Okay, well thanks for last night"
"Sure, anytime" he smiled "hey, i was wondering if next weekend i could take Mason to meet my mom? She's been asking when she can meet him...."
"Um.... yeah sure"
"You can come too if you want? I know my mom would be happy to see you" he said with a smile.
"Okay" i nodded "it'll just be us though right? I don't want Mason getting overwhelmed with too many new people"
"Yeah of course, maybe Scott too if he finds out you know what his like"
"Thats fine" i nodded with a smile knowing exactly what Scott was like.
"Thank you, i should go.... can i come by later though? Id like to check in on Mason"
"Sure, i'm sure he'd like that"
"I'll see you later then" he smiled before heading over to Mason "bye buddy i gotta go to work for a bit but i'll come see you later"
"Okay, bye dad".

————
"Dustin, Please, just leave me alone." She lay back on her bed, tears streaming down her face and hair amiss from where she'd run her fingers through it. "I'm fine, I just...give me some time."
"But, we tell eachother everything." Her little brother sounded so small and defeated that it almost broke her heart in two. She could hear him leaning his back against the door, the back of his head thumping dully against the wood a second later. "I feel like we're drifting apart. You don't talk to me anymore."
"Dustin-"
"No, it's okay. Don't worry." Dustin cleared the remnants of his upset from his throat, "We can talk later. I get that you need time."
And with that, he'd left. She could hear his muffled footsteps on the carpeted floor of the hallway, walking away from her bedroom and back to his own. She knew that she wanted to talk to him and vent about all of the happenings of the day, but she couldn't bring herself to let her walls down in front of anyone about her current situation just yet.
It was Steve. And it was bad.
They'd been together for a year and ten months. He'd been there for her through thick and thin. Whenever their mom went MIA, something that happened more often than not, during the days and weeks and months that Y/N was left to take care of her thirteen year old brother on her own with no notice whatsoever, Steve was there. And he'd take Dustin out to the cinema, give him free ice cream, play Dungeons and Dragons with him and his friends - even though Steve had no idea how to play Dungeons and Dragons. He'd sleep over, make her feel like she wasn't alone. It filled her with pride to see him taking Dustin under his wing, more like a dad than even an older brother.
When they lost Hopper, who'd become more of a parental figure than she and Dustin's mom was to her, he was standing by her side at the funeral, hand grasping her own smaller one with force and squeezing it every so often, just to remind her that he was there. He was there after the funeral, too, when they went to the cabin and went through Hopper's things. He was there when she found the birthday present that Hopper had bought for her, a necklace with, 'you're pretty cool, kid', engraved on it. Hopper's way of saying that he loved her. It came with a letter, one that she cried so hard while reading that she couldn't see the words on the page.
The point was, that Steve had been there through everything. And now that they'd had a huge argument over - of all things - Nancy Wheeler, she was unsure of whether or not she'd have Steve to lean on anymore.
It wasn't so much a stupid argument as it was a stupid mistake on Steve's end. He even admitted to himself that what he'd done was more than a dick move. Tina was having a party, a big one, for old time's sake. Y/N wasn't invited, having been socially considered as 'uncool' while in High School, while Steve was invited. He said that it wasn't a big deal, it didn't matter, he wouldn't go.
Except that it was a big deal, it did matter, and, well, he did go.
He'd gotten really drunk, so drunk, in fact, that he had no recollection of the night at all and managed to stumble to Y/N's front door at five in the morning.
He'd told her that he went to the party, that he was sorry. She'd been mad, but she was so tired that she said she'd deal with it in the morning and told Steve to sleep it off on the sofa. Before going to sleep, however, Steve had told Y/N that he 'thought he might've kissed Nancy' that night.
They'd argued about it the next day. She'd dropped him off at home, neither of them speaking at all in the car, and they'd screamed at eachother in Steve's living room. Little did either of them know, Steve hadn't actually kissed Nancy, he was just so drunk that he made himself believe that he had. And then, Y/N told Steve that they were done, and he'd said 'fine', and she'd left and cried in her car for an hour.
And now, she was here. Crying on her bed, little brother probably thinking that one of her friends had died or something.
She hated herself for blowing up and flying off the handle and literally breaking up with Steve. Steve, on the other hand, hated himself for even going to the party, hated himself for - possibly - kissing Nancy, hated himself for going to Y/N's front door and waking her up so early in the morning.
In the grand scheme of things, Steve Harrington had been an asshole. And he was all too aware of it.
It had been around half an hour since she got home when Dustin knocked on the door again. This time, she'd managed to calm down enough to allow him to come inside. She looked horrifying, hair messed up, tear stained face, cuddling a pillow and wearing one of Steve's shirts, but Dustin was her brother, he had no right to judge her.
The door swung open slowly, and Dustin was there, grinning and holding two pints of ice cream, spoons, and some movies. "Thought we could put a movie on and eat. And you can tell me about your problems and I promise I'll listen."
"Is the ice cream cookie dough?" Y/N asked, sniffling, and a watery smile crossed her face. Dustin laughed, happy to see his sister perking up at least a little bit, even if it was over ice cream, and turned the carton to reveal to her that it was, in fact, cookie dough.
"Only the best." He tossed one of the cartons and a spoon at her, and turned on the TV set that sat across from her bed. "Besides, I know it's the only one you'll eat when you're sad."
"You know me entirely too well." She hugged her knees to her chest and dug into her ice cream, relishing in the taste of it for a second, "Oh my God, I haven't had this in so long. And the Scoops cookie dough is so bad."
"Right? I know Steve thinks it's the best, but he is so wrong." Little did Dustin know, one mention of his name would make Y/N's meltdown begin all over again. Soon enough, she was crying hot tears into her ice cream, and she allowed Dustin to lay his head on her shoulder while she explained everything.
"Okay, I have to go somewhere." Dustin knew what he had to do, and Y/N's eyebrows furrowed as he got swiftly up from her bed. "I'll be like, maybe half an hour. But you can eat my ice cream if it starts to melt."
"Dustin! Don't leave me!"
"Watch the movie!"
And then he was gone, and she was by herself, with only some ice cream and E.T. to keep her company.
Meanwhile, Dustin had found Steve at work. He was insanely hungover - although, the headache and sickness had gone away thanks to Robin and her Tylenol, but the tiredness still remained - and reminded Dustin faintly of a particular zombie in Day of the Dead when he walked into Family Video to find him leaning on the counter. The grim look on his face wasn't so much because of the hangover, though, it was more to do with the fact that he and his girlfriend of nearly two years had broken up half an hour ago, and he'd been forced to go to work.
"If you're here to talk to Steve, I wouldn't. He nearly punched me when I asked him if he wanted Tylenol. And I'm a girl." Robin stopped Dustin at the front door, a serious look on her face, but he shrugged her off.
"It's fine. He won't do anything. Besides, I know what this whole thing's about. That's why I'm here." He tried to walk off again, but Robin grabbed his upper arm, tugging him back and making him elaborate.
"Is it Y/N? I think there was a fight between them or something. He’s never looked this rough.” Robin looked concerned, and she was. She’d never seen Steve so upset before. “He was crying when he came in.” She added.
Dustin shrugged, “Yeah, I’m gonna talk to him. He’ll be fine tomorrow.” He decided not to give Robin any more information on the situation in case Y/N or Steve would've gotten mad at him for it.
"Henderson, hey." Steve said quietly when he noticed that Dustin had entered the store. He looked like he'd been crying, and Robin was definitely right when she said he’d never looked rougher. "If you're here to hang out-"
"I'm not here to hang out, Steve. We have to talk." Dustin crossed his arms sternly over his chest, raising his eyebrows and nodding his head in the direction of the store room. Steve grumbled and complied, unlocking the door and ushering Dustin inside.
"You have to apologise."
"Apologise? Apologise for - what exactly are we talking about?" Steve rubbed a hand exhaustedly over his face, leaning against a sealed box of movies that he was supposed to have put away by now.
"You know what for, Steve. Y/N. You hurt her. Like, really badly. I don't think I've ever seen her so upset." Steve already wanted Dustin to stop, but he continued, really wanting him to get the message of just how hurt his sister was. "She cried in her room for half an hour before she even let me talk to her, and now she's at home by herself, probably crying some more because you went to a stupid party. I mean, seriously man, couldn't you just have stayed home? What was so important about it?"
Steve threw his head back and hid his face with his hands, wanting the floor to open up and swallow him whole. He knew that he'd been a dick, he knew that he'd hurt her, but, Jesus, knowing the details made his heart flip in his chest and his stomach hurt. He hated seeing Y/N upset at the best of times, nevermind when it was his fault.
"Yeah. Yeah, I should've just left it. Jeez, Dustin, I'm such an asshole."
"Yes. An asshole, you are. And what was that other shit? About you kissing Nancy?"
"I didn't kiss Nancy, okay? My drunk mind just kinda...made me believe that I did. I called her today just to confirm." Steve swallowed, suddenly having the nausea of his hangover coming back to him.
"Does Y/N know that?" Dustin had his arms crossed, back against the wall, looking unimpressed as Steve shook his head. "Seriously man? Don't you think that the first thing you should've done after finding out that you didn't actually cheat on your girlfriend, was tell your girlfriend that you didn't actually cheat on her?"
"My head's all over the place, Henderson. Cut me some slack, okay?"
"You have to come say sorry, you know that, right?"
"I will. I will, I promise. I finish in an hour, why don't you go home, I'll buy some flowers, take a shower and get changed, and I'll come chap on your door like none of this even happened." Steve had suddenly perked up, gesturing with his arms and almost getting excited to initiate his plan.
"Yeah. Sure. But it better be good, Harrington. You better make her happy."
Steve didn't even have time to respond before Dustin was running off, getting on his bike, and cycling back home to his sister. He promised himself internally that he'd do all it took to make her happy.
Y/N had finished her ice cream and Dustin's had started to melt by the time he got home. She hadn't cried any more, had been too focussed on the movie, and Dustin was relieved to see her laughing at something on the screen when he entered her bedroom.
"Hey." She smiled. "Your ice cream's melting, you'd better eat it."
Dustin smiled and bellyflopped onto her bed, sending her into a fit of laughter. They both laughed so hard, in fact, that they barely heard the doorbell ring, and Dustin almost got up to go and get it.
He stopped himself though, not wanting Steve to call him an idiot or something along those lines. "You should go. I have to eat my ice cream before it melts." He said sheepishly, sitting back down from where he'd jumped up. Y/N rolled her eyes and threw the pillow that she was holding at Dustin's face.
"Alright, make your sad sister get the door because you have to eat ice cream." She stood up even as she spoke, knowing that Dustin wasn't going to budge. "Nice one, asshole."
Y/N had left her bedroom before Dustin could retaliate, bounding down the stairs and realising that, if anyone saw her the way that she looked now, they'd probably never respect her again. The doorbell went again, and she sighed quietly at the lack of patience from whoever was on the other side.
She - stupidly - didn't even bother to look out of the window that stood next to the door to check who it was before opening it, and nearly closed it again when she realised who was standing there.
"Hey, woah, don't close the door yet!" It was Steve, his eyes widened from the possibility that he'd come all the way to her house so that she could slam the door in his face, holding white lilies and a box of chocolates, which was - in Y/N's opinion - the cheesiest apology ever. "Just...listen? For like, a minute."
She slowly let her hand slide off of the door knob, watching as Steve relaxed a significant amount even from seeing her do that. "A minute." She crossed her arms over her chest, chewing her cheek. "You have a minute."
"Okay, uh, yeah, okay." Steve began his rambling. "Listen, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I know I shouldn't have gone to that party, I know I shouldn't have gotten so drunk that I managed to convince myself that I kissed Nancy. Did I already say that I didn't actually kiss Nancy? I called her, and she said we didn't even speak. Bottom line is, I'm an asshole. I know that, and I hate myself for hurting you. Dustin told me how upset you were and I...I couldn't even comprehend the fact that I did that."
He paused, looking down at his feet and waiting for Y/N to say something. Something that didn't come, she simply stood, looking at and biting her fingernails, trying to figure out whether or not she should give in and forgive him or not, so he stopped waiting and spoke some more.
"I'm sorry. I love you. I love you so much. And I know that I fucked up, and I don't expect you to forgive me-"
"Steve." Y/N stopped him. He looked up at her, expecting that she'd look upset or annoyed, but she was smiling and shaking her head. "Come here."
"Seriously?" He already wished he hadn't said what he did before he'd even finished speaking. Seriously? What kind of thing to say was that? "I mean, you know-"
She was already hugging him before he could finish speaking. She knew that he'd ramble on for hours if he could, but she also knew that she already forgave him and didn't need to listen to his rambling. "It's okay. I forgive you."
"Oh, thank God. I thought I'd lost you, really, I did." He sighed into her hair, realising that he was probably ruining the bouquet of flowers with the way that he was crushing them against her back.
"Well, you were an asshole. You had every right to think you'd lost me." Steve had always loved her subtle sassiness, it was a habit that she often fell into unknowingly, but it made him chuckle.
"Yeah. Yeah, you're right. I was an asshole."
She let go of him, finally, and stood back. He was wearing his light blue jeans, a black t-shirt and belt, with a blue jacket. It was an outfit that she'd seen him in before, quite a few times, but he never failed to look good in it anyway. His hair was slightly amiss, as though he'd gotten ready as quickly as he could - which was true, but she didn't know that for sure - but it still had his Steve 'the hair' Harrington charm.
"So, can I come in, or are you just gonna stand there and mock me?" He grinned and she stood to the side, allowing him to join her in the hallway. He went straight for the kitchen, taking out a vase and filling it up with water, then placing the flowers in it and leaving it on the kitchen counter.
"I didn't say you could-" She was trying to joke with him, but he didn't seem to care much, as he cut her off by dipping his head towards hers and kissing her passionately. He hated to admit it, probably something to do with the small part of his King Steve persona that he still carried around with him, but he'd missed her, and it had only been a few hours.
"Woah, easy tiger." Y/N laughed, pulling away when Steve's hands started to travel downwards. "We haven't even properly spoken yet."
"Yeah. Sorry." Steve said sheepishly. He pushed his hands into the pockets of his jeans and smiled down at the floor. "Do you wanna talk?"
She shrugged. "Not particularly."
"So, really, it's okay for me to do this," He closed the gap between them again, beaming at her while he searched her face for any sign of disapproval and admired the little flecks of contrasting colours that danced in her eyes. And then he kissed her again, lips soft against her own, gentle - something that wasn't widely believed, Steve Harrington was actually one of the most gentle people that Y/N had ever met.
"Well, yeah." She grinned, breathless. "But I'm sort of in the middle of watching a movie, wanna join?"
And so they spent the rest of the day, wrapped in the blankets on Y/N's bed and Y/N wrapped in Steve's arms, watching movies that Dustin fished out from the cabinet under the TV that Y/N didn't even know that they had.
She had to say, Steve's apologies were often cheesy and terrible, but this one wasn’t so bad as it was enjoyable.

🐷 Hyunsuk
"Should there be that much blood? You're not dying right," the face would actually be kinda cute if he didn't look so disturbed, but you reply anyways.
"Yes and it's the normal amount now will you please just bring me a towel?"
"You know what you seem like you have it all figured out I'll let you do what you have to do and then you just call me when you want cuddles," Hyunsuk is already speed walking out of the room before you have the chance to reply.
God he's an idiot you think.
He loves you but periods just make him to nervous
He will give you all the cuddles in the world
He will NOT buy you pads or tampons no matter how much you ask
He is terrible at dealing with the mood shifts
🐼 Jihoon
"Babe what size do you need?" Jihoon questions over the phone.
"I need Regular and the brand doesn't matter," you respond.
"Are you sure the brand can also be important. I don't want you to feel any discomfort love."
You coo at your boyfriend and reassure him that as long as he picks regular you are fine.
100% would make a midnight run for you
He has a heating pad ready as soon as you mention your period
Buys you chocolate and snacks when you ask
Has ibuprofen or Tylenol for you when the cramps get to much
He says it hurts to see you in pain and wishes he could take all the pain away
🐯 Yoshi
"Do you want a hug or maybe a massage or I don't know...do you want me to leave?" Yoshi questions pacing around the carpet in your room.
"No but can you please stop moving your’re giving me a headache," you say holding you head.
"Okay so I should stay?" He questions sitting down on the bed next to you.
You hum and he pulls you close, tucking your head into his neck while rubbing your head.
Confused yet really wants to help
He isn't sure if he should leave or stay while you have mood swings
Claimed he would be able to help you through your period because of his sister, but he was actually clueless
He instead just cuddles you through all your cramps and headaches
🐨 Junkyu
"Can we get ice cream on the way back," you whine pointing to a nearby Baskin Robbins.
Junkyu pauses and thinks for a moment, "I don't think we have time if we want to make it to the movie."
This doesn't sit well with you and the whiny face turns to one of sadness. You pout and slowly nod, "Okay. To the movies it is then."
Noticing your sudden shift in mood your boyfriend laughs in an attempt to lighten the mood, "Okay, we do have a few minutes to spare."
Doesn't want to but with a little push will do anything for you
He doesn't know much but is willing to learn
Doesn't want to make you upset so he just complies
He isn't a big cuddler but when your on the verge of tears from a strong cramp he turns to butter
🐹 Mashiho
"No, don't cry. I didn't mean to hurt you," Mashi says crouching down to be the same height with the couch.
You hold on the side of your stomach which he accidentally hit while trying to show you a new flip he learned.
"I didn't hit you in the stomach, why are you crying," he whines, voice becoming a little bit high pitched and it's cute.
"I get sore everywhere you fool,"
He looks a bit astonished at the new information, "Really?"
You look at him with a small glare but let up when you can still see the curiosity and remorse in his eyes, "Yes and now I need a pain reliever and a glass of water."
"I'm on it,"
He treats you like a piece of glass
All the information he knows about periods are from dramas and tv so he is really interested in learning
He doesn't want to make you cry or sad so he try to be the perfect boyfriend
When your having a bad cramp he talks in his cute voice and you smile (he considers this an victory)
🦁 Jaehyuk
"Say ahh," Jaehyuk says holding out the spoon ready to feed you a bite of bulgogi.
"You know I can feed myself right," You question back.
He pouts," I am aware, but you're already going through so much. Let me take care of you."
He looks so determined to help out so you end up letting him feed you through the rest of dinner. Even though you got a few stares from the other dinners around you.
"Let me take care you" he takes it to a new level
Anything that he can do for you he does
He makes sure your alarm is set and you're up in the morning
Makes sure you have extra tampons or pads in your purse
He also cares around a pill or two of ibuprofen
He made sure to do his research on periods to make the experience better for you
🤖 Asahi
"We should do something today," your boyfriend suggests.
You glance up from your phone, eyebrow already raised, "You want to go out."
"Sure why not. The sun is about to set and I know you want to go take pictures," Asahi replies. You smile already getting on a pair of slippers.
"To the roof we go!" You shout.
-
"The sky is so pretty look at that cloud," You exclaim, spinning around pointing at the pink and blue sky.
Ashai smiles at you. It's the first time this week he's seen you happy all week.
It's just a normal week for Asahi and you
Your cramps aren't as bad this week but Asahi despite being nervous takes care of you
He does little things that make your life easier. Such as making food for you, washing the dishes, and bringing you a glass of water without you even asking
🦊 Yedam
"We should go to the park today," Yedam says over the phone. He can hear him shuffling with papers in the background, probably some lyrics or homework.
"I can't today. My period decided to attack me this morning. Maybe next weekend." You say.
"Ahh, well we could just stay in then." He suggested.
"No, I'll be fine, enjoy your free weekend and we can plan next weekend."
"Nope, I'm coming over and we are gonna eat Ramen and I'll sing you a song to sleep." He says.
"Okay, let's have a sleepover then."
Drops everything he is doing to be by your side
Sings you to sleep even over the phone if he has to
Sleepovers are a must for your relationship
You both love spending time together and when your cycle starts Yedam just holds you all night
He won't ask you about any of the details of your period but if he has to he'll will make you tea for your cramps
🐰 Doyoung
"Can we make a special stop?" You ask.
Doyoung looks at you confused, "For what?"
"I need to stop and get something you just wait here and I'll be right back."
Doyoung still looks puzzled but then it clicked, "Ah, you mean feminine stuff."
A shy smile makes its way onto your face, but you nod anyways.
"It's okay we can go together." He says, already making his way to the isle.
Is comfortable with periods to an extent
Knows what to do when you have cramps or are out of pads
May have asked his mom for advice but won't admit it
Cooks for you when your hungry
Is just the perfect boyfriend when your not feeling the best
🐏 Haruto
"It hurts. You don't understand it's painful," You groan holding your stomach.
"It can't be that painful come on."
"You know I love you but you're really clueless."
He sits down next to you, head in his hands," Okay, I know nothing about this at all. Tell me what I can do to make you feel better."
"Can you just hold me?" You ask.
"Of course. Anything to make you feel better." Haruto smiles.
"And order me pizza."
"Don't push it."
Doesn't really understand periods
He is willing to learn although he doesn't know anything
Decides to just be a good boyfriend and do whatever you ask
🐺 Jeongwoo
"Okay, I got you a chocolate chip cookie, popcorn, jelly, and orange juice and apple juice because I didn't know which one you would like. Oh and I also picked out a salad because all this sugar isn't good for you." Jeongwoo says placing all the food he picked up from the convenience store on the corner.
Chuckling you reach for the apple juice, "I didn't need all this food. All I asked for was a pack of gum."
"Yes, I know but what if you get hungry then you have more options."
"Awee, that's so cute," You coo standing up to give him a hug, "Thank you for thinking of me." Before you can give him a proper hug through he moves away.
"Sorry I love you but what if you bleed on me or something."
"Omg, really? Please tell me how I could bleed on you from giving you a hug," he opens his mouth about to respond but you put your hand up silencing him, "Don't answer that just make me my popcorn please."
Trying to be there for you
The overall fear takes over him though
Makes up any excuse to not touch you he's too afraid to make something worse
May have googled 'how to help your girlfriend through a period'
the advice didn't help
🐮 Junghwan
"Eww, no please just pick it up," Junghwan cringes pushing the pad away from him with the end of his pencil.
You laugh picking it up, "It's just a pad it won't kill you."
"How do you know that?! Anything could magically grow legs," he debates.
"I can't believe we are having this conversation right now," you say pushing the pad back into your book-bag.
You don't even get to talk about periods with Junghwan
He avoids the topic at all costs
The sight of a pad makes him feel weird
But when your having a bad cramp or just in a bad mood he will bring you a bag of jelly's or sweet bread (it makes you smile)
I hope you enjoyed!

//Sickly Sweet. Sugawara Koushi//
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1.3K
Notes: Sugamama really is so precious who let him do this
Eyes trained on your alarm clock, watching as the minutes changed.  Your head was killing you.  Your stomach was twisted into knots and it seemed like every breath you took was only combatted by a series of violent coughs.  You should’ve been at school by now, but when you had tried to get up earlier, you were welcomed by a wave of exhaustion and forced yourself to sit down.  You had simply crawled back into bed, deciding to stay home for the day.
You buried your head under the covers, desperately trying to fall back asleep in an attempt to just sleep it off.  Just as your eyelids had started to grow heavy and sleep was pulling you into its dark embrace, the loud ding of your phone brought a low groan from your throat.
2 new messages: Suga baby <3
You unlocked your phone, going to your messages.  He had already texted you good morning so you weren’t really sure what he was texting you about now.  A small whine sounded from somewhere within you as you stared at his recently sent picture.  His big brown eyes looked so sad as they added to the already adorable pout that was set on his lips.  He was bundled up in his scarf and you could still see the faintest hints of white in the air from the chilly morning freezing his breath.  Daichi and Asahi stood over his shoulder, giving wide smiles for the camera.
“He’s so cute,” you muttered to yourself, saving the image to your camera roll.
                                 7:47 a.m.
babyyy~ where are you?? i miss you :(
I don’t feel good :( I’m just going to stay
home today.  I miss you too, Koushi <3
awww get better okay? get lots of rest.
i’ll come check on you after practice.
i love you!
                                                            I love you too :’)
He was absolutely too cute for words.  You didn’t know what you ever did to deserve to have the pleasure of calling Sugawara your boyfriend, but you were in no way complaining.  He was always so sweet and considerate, sending you cute texts or silly pictures, knowing they would make you smile.  You were both relatively reserved when it came to adventures, opting for a night in with your favorite snacks rather than going out to whatever parties were being held that weekend.  It’s part of why you two worked so well.
Smiling once more at the photo he sent you, you tug your blanket tightly around your shivering body.  You couldn’t wait for this to all be over, but Suga fawning all over you like the caring boyfriend he was- well, maybe you could be sick for a little while.
Hours passed, boredom overcoming you quickly.  You would rather be at school than laying in bed doing absolutely nothing.  Sure, you were miserable, but at least you wouldn’t be bored and miserable.  You groan, rolling over in bed, throwing the blanket off of you as another hot flash overtook you.
A soft knock on your door makes your head turn excitedly towards the sound.  The school day had ended a while ago, so was it-
Your mom opened the door, a gentle smile on her face.  You whine a little, flopping back against your pillows, disappointed that it wasn’t Sugawara coming to keep you company.  “How are you feeling?” Your mother asks.
“Awful. . .”
“Oh, that’s too bad.  Should I just tell Suga that you’re too ill to see him then?”
You’re sitting straight up, eyes wide at the prospects that he’s here.  “Don’t you dare!”
The familiar laugh is heard just outside your room.  “Thank you, Mrs. Y/L/N,” the voice says.  Sugawara passes by your mother and shuts the door as she leaves.  There’s a paper bag from the Sakanoshita store in his arms.  He sets the bag down on the bed, beginning to unpack everything.  “Okay.  I didn’t know what was wrong, so I just got a bunch of different stuff!  There’s cough syrup, decongestants, Tylenol to reduce your fever, I mean, if you have one.  Saltines and Sprite to settle your stomach.  Soup, that you- put in the microwave?  That doesn’t sound great, but that’s all they had.  Lots of water, because you need to hydrate!  Some orange juice, because I know you like it.  I don’t know if it’ll be good if you’re sick, but it can’t hurt, right?  I got your favorite candies and some chips and-” He rummages through his school bag and pulls out a little stuffed dog.  “This!  You can cuddle it while I’m at school and you’re lying in bed getting better!”
“Suga, you didn’t have to do all this.  We have most of this stuff here,” you say, looking at the massive pile of stuff that he just laid on your bed.
“Well, now you have extra, just in case you run out.”  He puts his school bag on the ground and crawls into bed next to you.  Sugawara’s hand immediately finds your head, pulling it down to lean on his shoulder.  His fingers tangle in your hair, letting you snuggle close to him.  “You’re really warm,” he says absently.  “You should probably take some Tylenol.”
“What?  Suga, I’m fine.”
“If you were fine, you wouldn’t have missed school today.”  His free hand reaches for the little bottle of medicine and a bottle of water.  He carefully reads the label, trying to find the recommended dosage.  “This says two tablets every four to six hours.  Have you had any of these today?”
“No, and I don’t need th-”
“Yes, you do.”  Suga shakes two of the little pills into his palm and hands them to you.  “Here.”
“I don’t want to,” you whine, staring at the medicine.  Taking medicine was hands down the worst part about being sick, but there was absolutely no way to get out of it with your boyfriend staring at you intently, waiting for you to swallow the pills.
“We can watch that show on Netflix that you’ve been really wanting to see once you take those.  Or don’t.”  He shrugged.  “But, if you don’t we’re just going to watch that sad whale documentary again.”  He looks at you with a sly smile on his angelic face.  He had won and he was very aware that the looming threat of that
“You cannot put me through that again!  I do not want to spend another 2 hours crying!”
“Then take your medicine.”
Mock hate written all over your face, you swallow down the pills with water.  Your boyfriend leans over to reach your laptop, pulling up Netflix and finding the show that you had been begging him to watch with you for weeks.  He nestles down next to you, letting you lay your head on his chest as the opening scene begins to play.
“Hey, Suga?”
“Yeah?”
“Have I ever told you that you’re the best boyfriend?”
“Thank you, baby.”  He plants a soft kiss to the top of your head, causing you to turn your head to look at him.  Sugawara couldn’t help but smile at how absolutely adorable you were, gazing up at him with wide eyes, mouth tucked in the cutest frown.  “What’s that for?”  He laughs, tangling his fingers in the soft strands of your hair.
“I want to give you a kiss, but then you’ll get sick,” you huff, looking up at him with sad eyes.
Your boyfriend simply tilts his head, pulling you up his body so your face is next to his.  His lips feel soft and warm against your own and you can feel him smiling into the kiss as his hand goes to the nape of your neck, pulling you closer to him.  Pulling away, he nuzzles his nose cutely against your cheek.  “You’re worth getting sick for.”

Maxwell: “hey you guys?
I was wondering if i could ask y'all for advice”
Gyuteinnit: “What's up?”
Maxwell: “do any of y'all know a good way to get rid of headache
I woke up this morning to one and it hasn't gone away yet”
Gyuteinnit: “Try a cold pack and don't be online as much and just try to get away from the screen also possibly sleep if you can”
Maxwell: “Yeah I had been doing that mainly”
fetch: “Warm rag over the eyes and lay down, maybe shut off the lights
thats how mona helped me with mine anyway”
Gyuteinnit: “That also helps”
Maxwell: “hm....”
Tumblr media
fetch: “You also just might need to eat or drink something”
Maxwell: “hopefully it does I havent had a headache this bad in a while
usually it goes away after i take a tylenol but its been hours now”
emuhlee: “that's not good”
Maxwell: “ey its
just a headache
itll go away eventually
i just hope sooner rather then later ha...”
emuhlee: “hopefully!”
dreaming: “if it persists you should look into it..
further”
Maxwell: “might be a little hard
not many doctors are accepting of hybrids...”
dreaming: “that sucks, hopefully you can find one..”
Tumblr media
Maxwell: “i should be good...i might look up what type of headache it could be that might help with figuring out what caused it”
dreaming: “yeah!”
Maxwell: “it might be a tension one....i cant tell though
its not really near my forehead
more so right above my ears and then around the back”
dreaming: “that.. considering some stuff doesn't sound good...
i don't want to make you scared or anything but..”
Maxwell: “reminds me of when i used to wear a headband or something and it would be sore after ha
scared?”
fetch: “You prolly just slept on your head wrong lmao
I wake up in messed up positions all the time”
Maxwell: “yeah....what was it you were gonna say dreaming?
What?
Is something wrong?”
Tumblr media
emuhlee: “i can't speak for them, but what i understood, is they might be a bit worried about syd's new.. headpiece.. and how it uh.. came to be.. and then, uh. you now having a headache..”
jaynoblade: “...yeah that's what i was thinking as well”
Maxwell: “....what...
no no no its not”
Mothbo: “I'd suggest staying away from Baroness/interacting with her until we get more info.”
Maxwell: “it cant be
im fine
ive jsut been sleeping on the floor so much thats it”
fetch: “yall I'm pretty sure we'd know if max had vines growing out of his head”
Maxwell: “yeah”
Mothbo: “To be fair we didn't see Syd's coming either.”
Maxwell: “id notice it when i shower or brush my hair”
Tumblr media
Marcus: “Hey hey hey, max it’s okay”
emuhlee: “i think it's just a headache, but it's probably something we should keep in mind”
jaynoblade: “i saw what was happening to syd. none of us knew it was anything more than a headache until it... happened”
fetch: “can we talk about something else. you're just scaring him.”
Mothbo: “It will be okay, Max. I doubt it's the same thing. Try to rest and take headache meds.
Yes lets”
Marcus: “You probably slept on the floor wrong”
jaynoblade: “yeah good idea”
Marcus: “My arm is kind of numb maybe you laid on it?
Made your head sore”
fetch: “oh yeah I caught yall nappin on the floor earlier >:P”
Tumblr media
Maxwell: “jus the idea of that happening to me....ugh....watching it happen was bad enough
yeah i....was a little tired earlier
tried to nap to get rid of the headache”
fetch: “farming awwws”
Marcus: “..you weren’t sleeping well last night
Maybe it was that too
Tossing and turning, not getting enough sleep can give you a headache too”
Maxwell: “Maybe...”
emuhlee: “Most signs point to it having to do with your sleep, so i think everything is okay, just a normal headache”
jaynoblade: “i typically find that when i get a headache, drinking a ton of water helps bc i tend to forget and then i get dehydrated"
Maxwell: “True”
Tumblr media
Marcus: “We’ll get you some food and water just to make sure it’s not those and then we can do something low energy until you either nap or it goes away on it’s own”
Maxwell: “Could be my teeth too...”
fetch: “Yeah, you're part rat right? Their teeth grow pretty fast don't they”
emuhlee: “Do you normally have caffeine? It could be a lack of caffeine if it's something your body is used to.”
Maxwell: “Yeah I used to have things I’d chew on to keep em from growing too much but I haven’t done that in while”
[emuhlee: “Do you normally have caffeine? It could be a lack of caffeine if it's something your body is used to.”]
Maxwell: “No Mona likes it but I can’t stand the smell, makes me kind of sick”
emuhlee: “not even soda or chocolate? those have caffeine too”
Mothbo: “Tea and energy drinks too”
Tumblr media
Maxwell: “I like chocolate but I haven’t had it for a while I’ve mostly been drinking water and milk”
[Maxwell: “Yeah I used to have things I’d chew on to keep em from growing too much but I haven’t done that in while”]
Marcus: “What kind of things do you need? I’m sure there’s something around here”
fetch: “Maybe we can get you chewies? Like hard candies or even a chew stim to keep your teeth grinded down”
[Marcus: “What kind of things do you need? I’m sure there’s something around here”]
Maxwell: “Anything like wood or something would work”
Marcus: “Does it have to be a certain kind? There’s lots of sticks and stuff outside..”
[fetch: “Maybe we can get you chewies? Like hard candies or even a chew stim to keep your teeth grinded down”]
Maxwell: “That....might be helpful thank you my last one broke a while back”
[Marcus: “Does it have to be a certain kind? There’s lots of sticks and stuff outside..”]
Maxwell: “Honestly no as long as it isn’t dirty and won’t give me splinters it’s good”
Marcus: “Okay so we get some from out there, maybe take the bark off and wash them?”
Maxwell: “Sure as long as it doesn’t break super easily”
Marcus: “Okay! I’ll go look around the backyard”
Tumblr media
[dreaming: “have you done anything like that recently?..”]
Maxwell: “I don’t like energy drinks or such or sweets...
Hey jack...”
Jack: “hey Max!
honestly i had a pretty bad headache a few days back and it turned out i was just dehydrated.
make sure you drink plenty of water :)”
jaynoblade: “dehydration my abhorred”
Maxwell: “I’ll try”
Jack: “yeah i had like two glasses of cold water and was fine
staying away from Baroness and the Court is probably a good idea for you + the rest of Mona's crew anyways, headache or not. You're all more at risk to start off with.”
Marcus: “Okay I got some, I’ll go clean them up and bring you some food and water
And request for food max?”
Tumblr media
[Jack: “staying away from Baroness and the Court is probably a good idea for you + the rest of Mona's crew anyways, headache or not. You're all more at risk to start off with.”]
Maxwell: “I still gotta ask her about that note though....”
Jack: “Even if it's completely unrelated. better safe than sorry. someone else can always ask for you!”
kate: “We can ask my man”
Maxwell: “And not really, maybe some thing cold? My....my mom used to say to me if I wasn’t feeling good to eat something that gave you electrolytes to feel better”
Jack: “coconut water is rad for dehydration, if you're into that sort of thing.
[Maxwell: “And not really, maybe some thing cold? My....my mom used to say to me if I wasn’t feeling good to eat something that gave you electrolytes to feel better”]
Marcus: “Okay! How about some fruits? Strawberries and watermelon boost electrolytes and that’ll help with dehydration too”
Maxwell: “I’ve always liked watermelons....”
Tumblr media
Marcus: “Okay I’ll be right back. How do you feel about turkey and cheese sandwiches?
You need some protein”
Maxwell: “Maybe not Turkey but I like cheese....”
[Marcus: “You need some protein”]
Maxwell: “Hey, what’s that supposed to mean”
Marcus: “Okay cheese it is but I’m getting you to eat protein at some point
I’ll be right back okay?”
Maxwell: “Course”
Marcus: “I’ll just be in the kitchen if you need me”
Maxwell: “Got it”

Survey #396
“every time i leave, you say you won’t be there, & you’re always there”
So, is it gif with a hard G or soft G? I used to say "jif," but now I pronounce it as "gif." If you use libraries, what is the largest overdue fine you’ve ever had? *shrug* Do you ever borrow things other than books from the library? I remember back in the day, they used to offer educational computer games, and I bought a dinosaur one as a kid that I was madly obsessed with. Are there still any movie rental places left where you live? Just Redbox things outside of some stores. Do you ever buy secondhand books (or DVDs, video games, CDs)? Yeah; Ebay is my friend. Or do you prefer them to be brand new? I mean yeah, but it's not a massive deal to me so long the thing is operational or not falling apart. Do you ever write fanfic? Of what? Nah. Do you ever READ fanfic? Of what? Also nah. Do you have a favorite classical composer? No. Have you ever had multicolored/rainbow hair? No, but I would LOVE to. What kind of hats, if any, do you like to wear? I don't wear hats. What is your #1 deal-breaker with friendships? If you're manipulative, byyyyyeeeee~ Who is your favorite character on Bob’s Burgers and why? (If you watch it) I've seen some episodes, but I don't actually watch it. Have you ever had a retro celebrity crush? Like a crush on an “old” celebrity who was most famous a long time ago or is long dead? Audrey Hepburn, for one, is drop-dead GORGEOUS. When you buy/receive new clothes, do you instantly wear them or wash first? It depends on what I bought and where it's from. What’s the weirdest item you’ve seen for sale on Ebay? Idk. Are parents to blame for what their kids do on the Internet? No; kids make their own choices. I do, however, believe the parents should monitor what they do until they reach a certain degree of maturity, as well as the child's history with what they've done on the Internet. Do you use acronyms to remember things? Sometimes. Do you take pills like Tylenol for the littlest aches and pains? No. Only if I'm really in pain will I take Ibuprofen/Advil. Don’t you think Crocs are ugly? Big time. I don't know why they're in vogue now when they used to be so widely hated. When was the last time you went roller skating? Oh, it's been years. Who was your favorite Ninja Turtle? I was never into the franchise. Horror flicks make you: laugh, scream, or squirm? I prefer the ones that make you uneasy. I'm not a big fan of the nasty ones, and I want to feel on edge when I'm watching a horror film, but it's EXTREMELY rare I become legitimately scared. If you could become a doctor, what would you specialize in? Uhhhh. Maybe genetic disorders. What’s the cutest thing a little kid has ever said to/in front of you? I'm sure it was something my niece or nephew said, but I'm unsure of what. They've said many adorable things. Did any characters from TV shows scare you as a kid? Which one(s)? FUCKING KING RAMSES FROM COURAGE THE COWARDLY DOG. FUCK he gave me nightmares. What’s the saddest thing you’ve heard on the news recently? I was very saddened to hear about the giraffe that died giving birth. Do you believe that acupuncture works? I'm not educated enough on this subject. Have you ever been hypnotized? No, and I don't believe it's possible to be. What’s the first food you can smell when you enter the mall? The soft pretzels, omg. That little stand is my favorite part of our local mall. They make DELICIOUS pretzels. What is the worst hurt you’ve ever experienced? Jason leaving. Are huge muscles gross or sexy? Like serious body builders, it's gross to me. I prefer a natural musculature. Have you ever fished and caught something weird? I know I have, but what isn't coming to mind. Do you use an umbrella when it rains? Unless it is absolutely pouring, no. Do you like getting caught in the rain? No. What is the hardest part of cleaning for you? It requires physical exertion and I am INCREDIBLY weak with non-existent stamina. Do you have any fake flowers in your room? No. Do you own any succulents? No. What is your favorite thing about spring? The only thing I like about spring are all the flowers. What is something you find hard to draw? HANDS. UGH. Was it sunny for your senior prom pictures? Sigh. It was a beautiful sunset. I REALLY wish I didn't delete all those pictures from existence. Have you ever seen a double rainbow? I've seen like, a triple rainbow. What’s one thing you want to learn how to make? Your ordinary meals. I really want to be able to cook my own food from scratch. Do you have stomach issues? Maybe TMI, but it's been questioned but not fully examined that I may have IBS. My stomach is very sensitive. When was the last time you apologized and didn’t mean it? I'm not sure. Do you prefer to be the “talker” or the “listener” in a conversation? The listener. What’s a movie that you think everyone should see? Johnny Got His Gun. If you could have any hair color, what color would you want? Either pastel pink or light creamsicle orange. When was the last time you saw your “first love”? February of 2017. Who’s the smartest person you know personally? My best guy friend Girt. What makes them so smart? He's just very intelligent. Book-smart. Are there any bands/artists that get you all emotional? Ozzy. He and his music are so important to me. What’s your favourite aunt or uncle’s first name? Robert. Have you ever done a first aid course? No. What time do you generally wake up in the morning? It varies from like, 6:00-8:30ish. If you could have one superpower, what would it be? Definitely shapeshifting. I'd love to be a druid, man. Do you ever make surveys? If so, are they long or short? No, but I combine them because I don't like surveys that are too short by my standards. When is the next time you’ll change your hairstyle? Will you color it? Honestly, probably never. I love my current hairstyle, but I most certainly plan on dyeing it maaaany more times. As a child, what was your favorite game to play? I was hooked on the first three Spyro games. I would play 'em over and over. Do any of your siblings have significant others? Do you like them? My older sister is married, and I am NOT a fan of her husband. He's WAY too conservative and bigoted and racist and misogynistic, etc. etc. He's wonderful as a dad, like holy shit he loves his kids, but his beliefs are abhorrent. Dad's daughter is also married, and her husband is awesome. Mom's eldest daughter is also married, and her husband seems cool. My brother has a fiancee that I've never met. Do you believe in the concept of global warming? No fucking shit I do. It's impossible to logically deny, especially as the years go on. When was the last time you took a picture of something? Was it yourself? I took some pictures of this beautiful hydrangea bush outside the TMS office a few days ago. When drinking soda, do you prefer bottles or cans or poured in a glass? Cans, because it stays colder. Do you wear deodorant? Um, yes? If you had a pet pig, what would you name it? Probably something very unoriginal, like Wilbur. Do you like Led Zeppelin? I LOVE "Kashmir." "Stairway to Heaven" was madly important to me, but yeah... I can't listen to it anymore. Like seriously, I haven't in years. Do you like hugs? I do. Have you read the Constitution of the United States of America? Only the Bill of Rights for school. Do you have your own computer or use a family one? I have my own laptop. Do you take out the trash? Sometimes. Is there a calendar in the room you’re in? Outdated meerkat ones. What is your best friend’s name? Sara Jane. :') Have you ever seen a real-life cop chase? Maybe? What is your favorite shape? Circles. Are pigs adorable or dirty? They're precious! And pigs are actually a lot cleaner than people think, if they're not muddy. Anything moldy in your house? Not to my knowledge. Our old house had a serious mold problem, though, which is the primary reason we had to move. Especially with Mom having cancer at the time, she needed to be in the most sterile environment possible. Have you ever been in an earthquake? No. Do you enjoy history? No. Are you watching TV right now? No, but rather GameGrumps on YT. Could you ever be a mortician? True shit, it actually doesn't seem THAT bad. Can you solve a Rubik’s cube? Never seriously tried. How many pets do you have? Just two right now. Are you more close with your mom or dad? My mom. Who is the person that has impacted your life the most? Jason. Or Mom. Have you ever had a pet fish? Yeah. Poor things, they had terrible husbandry. I've learned a hell of a lot from a YouTuber/streamer that is like obsessed with fish about just how misinformed people are on how to take care of various fish. Your goldfish in that little bowl died for a reason, you know. Do you believe in ghosts? Yes. Do you prefer tea or coffee? Both suck. Have you ever vaped? No. How did your parents meet? They were co-workers. What was your first word? "Dada." Have you ever had a kinky dream about a celebrity? ... I mighta lmao. When was the last time you had Nutella? A long time ago. It reeeeaaaally needs to stay out of my house, because I will eat it straight out of the jar. Name someone with a sexy sounding voice. So I don't know where this was, but Mark was once credited in something as "if chocolate had a voice" and I was like YOU FUCKIN BET YOUR SWEET ASS.
