Teddy bears
Tumblr media
13th Doctor x GN!Reader (romantic)
The Doctor doesn’t realize the bear she bought you would have lasting consequences.
Fluff, pure fuckin fluff
The Doctor really really should’ve thought better when you came running up to her, practically death gripping her hands and dragging her back to the shop you had launched yourself into. Her brain was running a thousand miles a minute, trying to figure out what you had found, or if you had gotten into trouble. Instead, she saw the shop keep setting a brown stuffed bear on a shelf behind the counter, with two TARDIS blue hearts stitched over the chest.
"Please, Doctor. I would've given them earth currency but we don't have a universal currency and I don't know what currency this planet takes. I won't ask you to pay for anything ever again." You had practically begged, your voice coming out with words that even her brain had a hard time keeping track of.
The Doctor had to laugh, you looked adorable looking between her and the bear. Your feet were still tapping in excitement at finding the bear at all. "Yeah, we can get you the bear, if that is what your asking for."
"I forgot to even mention what I wanted! Oh thank you so much!" You didn't even think and pulled the woman in for a kiss.
The Doctor eagerly kissed back, her brain lighting up with ideas of what else she could do to have more kisses like this. Obviously more stuffed animals had made their way onto her list. She gently pulled away and rested her hands on your hips, laughing softly.
~
She really should've thought better when you started carrying the bear around everywhere, if she even mentioned there could've been a chance at sleeping outside The TARDIS. You had it stuffed in a bag you took everywhere. You and The Fam were curled up in a tiny tent, miles away from the TARDIS and you had pulled the bear out, setting it in your lap as she paced back and forth.
Yaz just smiled at the bear while Ryan snorted. "You still carry it around everywhere."
You smiled and nodded. "Gotta have a piece of my Time Lord with me everywhere I go. Plus, she's gonna be so busy tonight trying to figure out how to fix all this, she won't be open to cuddling. So next best thing."
The Doctor stilled at that, and then started pacing again. Graham was the one who picked up on The Doctor's stutter in her walk and the smile that had crossed the Time Lord's face.
Of course, you had been right and spent the night curled around the bear, and The Doctor had just stared at you. Your face had been burrowed into the bear's chest, barely enough room for you breath but it was how you slept with her.
~
The Doctor really should've checked the bear after that night, because when she heard you talking to someone in her room, her heart dropped and when she peeked her head in, and saw you curled up in her lilac and rainbow bedding, that damned bear sitting on your chest with her voice coming out of it.
She immediately pulled her sonic out and tried to discretely sonic it but your ears had caught the whirring and you sat up. "Hi Doc!"
Her eyes watched as the bear fell onto her side of the bed and she couldn't help but feel the spike of jealousy in her hearts as you readjusted the bear into a sitting position. She slowly moved the rest of the way into the room and sat next to the bear. "So when did you get it to speak to you?"
You tilted your head before looking at the bear. "I thought you did that. I had left her on the bed when we went out on Lavernus and when I came back she had started talking back to me."
"She?" The Doctor asked and you looked away from her, trying to not show how flustered you were.
"I mean, its kinda obvious who I'm projecting onto that bear, Doc."
"I just heard my own voice come out of that bear. I know the bear is representing me."
"Oh-Oh good, because its kinda embarrassing to project your girlfriend onto a stuffed bear."
The Doctor suddenly pulled you into a kiss, her hand wrapped the back of your head, gently keeping you in place. When she finally pulled away, she pressed her forehead to yours and a smile was on her face. "Do you know how jealous of that bear I have been since I bought it for you?"

What about the earliest Shadow?
Tumblr media
Mods and Shadow has his Chao following him...
I imagine that most people got so interested in Shadow lately because he is back to be likeable, but also because of the incoming movie.
For the last decade Shadow has been the laughing stock from Sonic series. Crazy OoC-ness from fans were deliberate and not a mistake.
Tumblr media
Yes, happy Shadow was a choice by its autor. Is a long story...
The most common image of last decade Shadow we had was... THIS...
Tumblr media
Idiot...
I knew Shadow first from Adventure and Heroes. I didn't play heroes but I played a lot SA2B, especially the chao game and I always used Sonic and Shadow because they were the safest to have around chao. I rediscovered him later, in 2010, but he wasn't the likeable character I once knew so I completely lost interest in him (also I'm more a Sonic fan). I forgot who he was and all the things I knew were from meme. But also video from games showing 'how Shadow is an asshole' 'Shadow the edgelord' and IDW comics, the worst of all (not that Game Shadow was better, he was often underused and his few lines tasted as 'Go fuck yourself'. To make things worse he was dubbed by Kirk Thorton, not a really beautiful voice, to not say brutal things...).
Sega just took Shadow and removed all his good qualities, all what made him well rounded, keeping only the flaws (I've read the mandates, do you know what an Anti-Mary Sue is? Well...). They wanted him being unlikeable I guess. Is mainly from Prime and tMoStH that Shadow sparkled my interest again into exploring him as character, that made me think there is more, that he must also have good qualities, not only flaws.
Tumblr media
The earliest Shadow (Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes) was hardly grumpy. He was sad, lonely, somewhat insecure, often lost in though, but also stubborn, certainly less cold than people might assume. As for grumpiness, if I compare him to Sonic in 2001, Sonic seemed slightly grumpier than Shadow at that time. Shadow himself seemed to be aware of that and to have fun picking on Sonic. Both of them are rather cold outside but both of them are shown to be able to feel strong emotion (Shadow having a panic attack and Sonic wiping his eyes during the credits, Shadow being controlled by is own emotions while Sonic refusing them) At least that was the impression he gave me. Since Shadow was meant to die, most of his personality traits aswell as his backstory were packed and shown during the whole game, like a character ark. He is pratically the protagonist in the dark storyline. By the end of the storyark he is able to open up to Sonic (during the final battle against the biolizard he openly told Sonic he was not feeling well. Also the hand clasping was a gesture of openess from Shadow) and to some degree toward Amy. Not so much toward Rouge who pratically is the one who hurt him the most. In heroes Shadow appears to be pleasant to have around, althoug aloof. He is not fond in humanity and that's one of his main traits, but he doesn't let his predjudice win over him. He still has this melancholic aura around him though, it doesn't matter how content or cheerful he may seem sometimes.
Sonic was dubbed by Ryan Drummond and Shadow by David Humphrey. David's voice was different from the other VA Shadow had. His voice was more high pitched, youthful, cute. Still soft spoken. Ryan's voice was legendary, and when he made Sonic talk soflty, he sounded almost like Shadow. The two VA had so similar voices that made Sonic and Shadow sound like legit twins, and back in 2001 I though they shared the same VA all the time. Well, Drummond also dubs Shadow for a short time.
So what went wrong?
The 00's era were the years of the prince of the saiyan, or better, the king of the edgelords:
Tumblr media
This guy was also sad and lonely. But he was also more impulsive, rough, boorish and extremely grumpy. Maybe because he is a muscular human and not a cute velvety male calico kitten hedgehog he filled the dreams of young and older teenagers.
Some said Shadow is based on Vegeta (not only him but also him) the more the 00's approaches the 10's, the more Shadow became grumpier, arrogant and standoffish. Sadness and melancholy were replaced by selfishness and he became less and less fun and interesting. Shadow the edgelord.
Tumblr media
Archie Shadow was maybe too expressive (and his sadness was very underlined) but with only SA2 and Sonic Heroes around this interpretation was more than understandable. They (Flynn, Penders I can imagine) referred from the material they had. Shadow opening up to Sonic is there in Adventure 2, is undeniable, so it was normal assuming he was more open.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is left handed, yeah! (This is actually correct)
In Sonic Universe Shadow was more balanced, maybe closer to the one we saw in early '00s. Lonely, rejected, sometimes bullied (although he could defend himself with his sharp tongue) because he was different.
Then the IDW.
Tumblr media
No. Seriously Shadow?
That is unavoidable if we are talking about characters that are created by a team and not by a single. We already see this with Disney. When the writers change the charcters change too, everybody notices different things about a character, based on it's own experience of life. The characters chanfe even when the single writer deals with them, because people change too. Any kind of mandates can only help this far, if they're too heavy they end to be counter productive.
This is my personal opinion, but I would have seen better Shadow befriending Amy and Sonic more than Rouge in early days. Rouge worried for him at times, but there were moments she purposefully hurted him (although later she cared sincerely for him). She would take time to regain his trust. With Sonic, following SA2 would have been open, even more than what we see in Prime. With Amy he would be in good terms though often drained by her own cheerfulness and extrovertion. Tails is rather reserved although not socially awkward so he would not have problem with him. With Knuckles things would become funny I guess, Shadow used to be calm and smart while Knuckles is more simple and is grumpy. I think he (Shadow) would still have issues and relapses with his PTSD though and the need to be left alone.
Well, now the movie will come out. They did a good job until now. I'm curious about what they will do with Shadow. I hope he will be likeable like in SA2.

To give my general 13 Who feelings since I asked:
Ryan was my favorite Chibnall era companion though I suspect Tosin probably felt pretty burned by lack of material and hope he's on to better things that make him happier. He's quite a good actor IMO. Makes a lot of interesting choices when left to the background.
Dan and Graham were both quite charming but just not character types I need from stories right now. Dan also really suffered from not getting, like, any breathing room as a character. It ends up feeling like after Brian Williams, Chibnall needed a comfort older white dude in the TARDIS.
Yaz I like on paper but never felt like she got the focus or exploration the many interesting things about her deserved. Can You Hear Me was a very clever retcon to explain her lack of material in series 11 in addition to being poignant though it does totally change her from the character introduced in Woman Who Fell to Earth.
I like the idea of the Timeless Child and the opportunities it offers and relate a surprising amount to the whole forgotten child childhood trauma questions about identity, but think it stalled on examining that after the quite underrated Once, Upon Time.
Sacha Dhawan is a superb actor who elevated a lot but I did not care at all for the direction the Master was taken in. The lack of acknowledgment of Missy was painful, the Nazi stuff doubly so, and the redestriction of Gallifrey just annoying.
Jodie Whittaker is wonderful and very Doctory. I wish she could have played more range though and really wanted to see her play a fuller relationship plot because I love the Doctor in that kind of thing and think she'd have nailed it.
Loved the sonic. Didn't love the TARDIS. Liked series 12, apart from Spyfall part 2. Thought Resolution and Eve of the Daleks were fantastic. Complicated feelings about Flux and how it all in my view fell apart (well documented that Chibnall wrote it while it went and it shows). Thought series 11 was the right idea but didn't think it was good enough overall.
Really enjoyed writers like Vinay Patel, Ed Hime, Joy Wilkinson, Maxine Alderton, and Nina Metivier contributing, and even controversially Pete McTighe, though I wish they got a bit more polish the way RTD or Moffat added sparkle to their guest writers. It's probably not fair to expect Chris Chibnall to meet the dialogue crispness of two of the best living British TV writers who proceeded him. It's not that he's bad, but Moffat and Davies are really special talents on that front and a tough act to follow.
Thought the best director of the era was Nida Manzoor and hope they get her back. Also loved Wayne Yip again but sounds like he didn't love doing it.
Some episodes and elements I really liked but overall the era of modern Who I'm coolest on. Still would take it over several classic runs any day.

New thread for Whittaker!Doctor.
Episode: The Woman Who Fell to Earth - Hi, Ryan, Yas, Graham! I love how Northern it is. Sonic Swiss Army Knife - thank you! The tooth monster is so horrible. I like that Ryan is the Doctor's favourite because he agrees with her, just like Five and Nyssa. Good start.
Episode: The Ghost Monument - I like the new credits more than Twelve's. Venusian aikido! Ohm, Ryan used a gun so he's no longer the Doctor's fave. Honestly, the Doctor running to greet the TARDIS was quite romantic. Love the new look.
Episode: Rosa - Great episode. Ryan especially is excellent - love that he keeps using Rosa Parks' and MLK's full names. A proper history episode, haven't had one of those in a long time.
Episode: Arachnids in the UK - Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Silly fun, enjoyable but no thanks to the giant spiders.
Episode: The Tsuranga Conundrum - Nice to see Brett Goldstein. Bit of a mixed bag though. I liked Graham and Ryan's story better than Eve's. The Pting is very cute.
Episode: Demons of the Punjab - Another lovely historical episode. I do like that it's teaching us things. Graham is very wise. Once again, the Doctor has learnt nothing about taking companions to see their relatives.
Episode: Kerblam! - That robot delivery thing is horrible. Poor Kira, I liked her. It was a fine episode but nothing very exciting.
Episode: The Witchfinders - I love Alan Cumming. I'm surprised The Doctor hasn't been burnt at the stake for witchcraft before now tbh. The historical stuff has been really great this season.
Episode: It Takes You Away - Yas wanting to reverse the polarity was a highlight. Sad but lovely. And Ryan calling Graham grandad was very touching.
Episode: The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos - Not a great series end but also not terrible. I enjoyed it on the whole. I love the whole TARDIS team.
Episode: Resolution - Your standard Dalek story but it was very enjoyable. Like the extended fam. I love how Yorkshire Whittaker!Doctor is.
Episode: Spyfall 1/2 - Great introduction for Dhawan!Master. (I still miss Missy though). Everyone looks fantastic in their tuxes. Fab Bond episode to start and then a nice historical ep with Ada Lovelace and Noor Inayar Khan. Love the Doctor's eyerolling over the Master's theatrics and then they go to the Eiffel Tower for a date. Bless. Aaand then Gallifrey is destroyed again. *sigh*
Episode: Orphan 55 - Nice exciting episode. Loved all the characters and the very tight plot. One of the best.
Episode: Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror - I do enjoy the historical episodes and the little educational asides. Good but not one of my favourites.
Episode: Fugitive of the Judoon - Jack! I like Ruth. A very exciting episode, a good mystery and lots of interesting things going on. Whittaker!Doctor is brilliant.
Episode: Praxeus - I liked everyone getting to go off and do their own thing. Too many creepy birds though. Some nice educational moments.
Episode: Can You Hear Me? - Love Whittaker!Doctor talking to herself and forgetting she's alone. Love how awkward she is when Graham is trying to talk to her. Yaz's story made me cry.
Episode: The Haunting of Villa Diodati - Gorgeous, creepy, funny. A perfect episode.
Episode: Ascension of the Cybermen/The Timeless Children - I don't hate the Doctor's history reveal. I think destroying Gallifrey again was stupid and I don't understand why we're still associating The Master and the Cybermen this closely.
Episode: Revolution of the Daleks - Harriet Walter! Jack! I like that Ryan and Graham decide to leave and aren't forced out traumatically like all the other New!Who companions. It's just a continuation of Resolution and the Dalek story isn't as good as that one.
Episode: The Halloween Apocalypse - I like the way everything is set up for the whole season. It makes an interesting change. Not sure how I feel about Dan yet.
Episode: War of the Sontarans - Yay Mary Seacole! I do like Sontarans but I don't like the makeup this time. Swarm and Azure's makeup however is amazing.
Episode: Once, Upon Time - I love Bel. I think her and Vinder's story is the most interesting this season. I'm still not really invested in Dan.
Episode: Village of the Angels - A good episode but I didn't really like the ending. I do love a good weeping angel episode though.
Episode: Survivors of the Flux - Yaz looks fantastic in all her 1904 outfits. I don't really care about the Flux or Division - I don't think more mysterious secret organisations were needed. Kate!!!!
Episode: The Vanquishers - Oh there's two Whittaker!Doctors in the same place at the same time. Yaz is having so many impure thoughts. Poor Jericho.
Episode: Eve of the Daleks - Time Loop! My favourite trope. I loved it. And yay to Dan for giving a few home truths to the Doctor and listening to Yaz.
Episode: Legend of the Sea Devils - Pirates, beautiful ships, swordfights, Whittaker!Doctor being brave and honest with Yaz. Lovely ending.
Episode: The Power of the Doctor - This episode is going to make me cry isn't it? Oh yes, the regenerating Cybermen. Ugh. ACE!!! TEGAN MY LOVE!!! Bye, Dan. I'm so pleased they all made their own choice to leave. "Your Master awaits." But what do they mean by that? Really? KATE!!! She did not sign up for this drama. The Master is looking good like a professor. "How did you escape from Gallifrey?" How does he escape from anything, Doctor? FFS. Love a bunker. Lava pools seem to be Whittaker!Doctor's quarry. Poor UNIT. Dear lord, just ask her on a date, you idiot. It's not really regeneration, so much as a body swap. Oh Tegan <3 Lol at the Master wearing a bit of every Doctor. All the Doctors. I'm crying. Yaz is awesome. I love Tegan so much. I love Ace. I love the Master's emo hood. Brave heart, Tegan. *crying forever* "All children leave home!" *yeah I'm never going to stop crying* Graham! Oh Kate <3 The only thing I like about the regenerating Cybermen is the beautiful Galifreyan swirlies. Oh poor Master. He needs some hugs and some therapy. Him and his bisexual TARDIS. I do love that there's five women here and one man. And the Cloister bell. Oh Yaz <3 Jo!!!!!!! My darling, Jo. Ian! Mel! Tag, you're it! Incredible. Hello (again) David.
Whittaker!Doctor Era Roundup
I love Jodie. I love the fam. I love how Yorkshire it is. I don't really have a strong opinion about the Timeless Child revelation, but I do think getting rid of Gallifrey again was a mistake. I hope we can dispense with the Master & Cybermen connection now too. Overall, I love how Whittaker!Doctor was brave, excitable, full of nervous energy and a little bit steampunk!

Thirteen Era Rewatch: The Woman Who Fell to Earth
I'm re-watching Thirteen's era in lead up to the Centenary and since this is likely going to be my last full re-watch for a while I thought I'd do a post on each ep where I just go over all the things I love, hate or just have some general thoughts on. I've tried to keep this organised but it's a bit ramble-y.
I don’t fully understand Graham’s desperation for Ryan to call him Grandad. He married Grace when Ryan was like 16. I can’t imagine many 16yos are going to call their Nan’s new husband Grandad. I don’t think it’s the end of the world bc I love Ryan and Graham’s relationship and watching them grow through the series and I think Ryan changing to calling him Grandad is a good way to represent their growth but it is a little odd imo
Love 13 and Yaz’s interactions on the train, the Doctor basically convincing Yaz to not call it in, and of course it doesn’t take much. Could be showing that Yaz is already intrigued by the Doctor this early into knowing her or it could be showing how Yaz is young/naïve bc she’s letting this random train woman take control, basically showing the Doctor companion power imbalance, Yaz is obviously out of her depth with this.
I love Ryan’s vibe. Sometimes he’s quiet, sometimes he’s moody, he’s low-key kinda funny. I’m a big fan. The moments are small but they work for me.
Tumblr media
The back and forth between Graham and Ryan in this ep is so good. I think the scene where Graham mentions Ryan blaming his dyspraxia for starting the invasion is maybe a bit much? But idk, Ryan has been making comments for like half the ep at this point, and probably for the last three years, so maybe Graham is allowed to say something twatty back every once in a while.
The scene where they find the dead body is a bit odd because we don’t see anything, we just get them taking turns describing what they see. I get why, they’re obviously not gonna show the stuff they’re describing in a family show, but I wish they’d showed us something.
Tumblr media
Thirteen is true chef’s kiss when it comes to confrontations. I love how she says ‘Get behind me now’ and I love that it’s a theme that runs through the era. It’s giving not wanting Bill 2.0 to happen because she wasn’t in the way to stop it.
Love that while Thirteen clearly wants to keep the fam safe and seems to like them, she isn’t massively attached to them. There are multiple times where she basically tells them to shut up because there’s important shit she needs to get on with.
Tumblr media
I find it very interesting, and depressing, that Grace is the only one in the episode to explicitly say that she loves what’s happening and then she is the one who dies.
It isn’t my fave thing in the world that the way Tim Shaw was defeated was because 13 did a bunch of things offscreen that we didn’t see and that weren’t mentioned at all prior to that point. They show the red thing that helps Tim get home during the sonic making scene but that’s it from what I noticed. It's not a big deal for me because I think the main thing about this ep is that we get to know all these new ppl and not that the resolution to the plot is 10/10 but it is something I noticed.
I love the start of this ep with Ryan’s video and how we think he’s talking about the Doctor but it ends up being about Grace but tbh Ryan doesn’t give me a YouTuber vibe. It feels like they did it in this ep bc it was cool and they didn’t think about it much outside of that
I would really like more concrete information on what happened between Grace's death and her funeral tbh. I find the fact the Doctor stayed, especially this Doctor who goes on to be known to not want to let people get too close, very interesting. In my mind she spent the time before the funeral living at that place where she made the thing to get her to the TaRDIS, maybe with the fam dipping in to see her, bc imo that would explain the fact she still hadn't got changed, and then she decided to stay for the funeral and leave as soon as it was over
I love Ryan and the Doctor's chat at the funeral about Ryan's dad. She is literally his surrogate dad I stg
Graham's funeral speech is so Thasmin coded it's disgusting. Only having a short amount of time with her, she showed him a better way to live?? Also this shot while Graham is saying that? Earlier Yaz was complaining she wanted more and now she is about to get more !!
Tumblr media
I think the fam are well fleshed out in this ep? Especially Ryan and Graham. Idk I’m not that good at like, analysing shit but just from this one ep I feel like we know them decently.
Graham - Wants a relationship with Ryan, had cancer, was a bus driver, loves making one liners
Yaz - Wants more from her job, can be authoritative
Ryan - has dyspraxia, isn’t a fan of Graham, bad relationship with dad, works in a warehouse, doing his NVQ, YouTube
Yaz is defo the one we have the least concrete info about at this point but even then I think the main thing we do know about her, the fact she wants more from her job, is kinda an important thing so meh

finished Frontiers about an hour ago, have some disorganized thoughts
Massive spoilers under the cut
General/gameplay stuff:
-I played the PC version. My laptop's a bit of a potato so I had to crank the graphics settings way down and still had a lot of chugging going on (and it broke a couple of the cutscenes)
-But despite having to fight hardware limitations the whole time, I enjoyed it! There's some jank (and I don't think it's just a result of hardware limitations since I've heard other people struggling with it), but on the whole, the open world was a blast to play through even with the chugging. And Cyberspace wasn't too bad actually, though I might be looking upon it more favorably since it didn't have framerate drops on my device like the open world did; if the open world wasn't having such severe framerate drops for me it probably would've blown Cyberspace out of the water. (I'll have to play this game again on better hardware sometime.)
-IKARUGA IN A SONIC GAME
-BOTTOM TEXT
-Chaos Island had some major issues gameplay-wise but I'm willing to forgive it for Ikaruga
Soundtrack:
-HOLY SHIT THE SOUNDTRACK.
-I think this is my favorite Sonic soundtrack ever.
-I will be coming back to this tag to scream about each and every song in this soundtrack over the next couple of years, mark my words.
-It all bangs. You know it all bangs. Moving on
Story:
-To be honest I wasn't huge on the actual *story,* but I really enjoyed most of the character writing, so I think it all balances out.
-The Kocos were cute. But the Ancients and the End were kinda just there, IMO?
-The Sonic corruption plot being resolved that quickly was kinda dumb. I think it's probably an even bigger anticlimax than the Null Space breakout in Forces was (though the presentation was better, so I can give it that).
-Plot beats aside, I like this Sonic portrayal overall, and Tails and Knuckles were both done SO MUCH justice. I'm so proud of my boys. (The scene where Sonic reassures Tails was the first time I've ever cried at a Sonic game, I- the funny two-tailed fox got to me, ok?)
-I liked Amy too, though I think they might have gone a little *too* subdued with her? I could probably go into some more organized thoughts about her later, but eh
-Sage is where things get a little bit *interesting,* because I really like her as a character. I think the contrasting teal-white vs. red-black color scheme thing ties in really nicely with the Ikaruga hacking minigame duality thing, I like Ryan Bartley's performance, and I mean... she's an AI in the process of self-actualization who (at least to my reading) desperately craves validation, of course I was gonna get attached. And I really like her dynamic with Sonic.
BUT I'm not sure how I feel about her dynamic with Eggman. I'm not necessarily opposed to an Eggdad kind of approach (though I recognize that some people weren't gonna be fond of the Eggdad thing no matter what, and I think they've got the right to feel that way), so I feel like for me personally, had Frontiers taken the time to really develop their dynamic I'd find it easier to swallow. But as-is, it feels too rushed to really justify the departure between how Eggman usually treats his creations and how Eggman treats Sage.
(Personally after that Chaos Island cutscene, I was halfway expecting Sonic to get Sage to join up with the gang and turn against Eggman, like with Knuckles in S3&K. It's been a while since we've seen the "bad guy of the week turns good and teams up with Sonic to defeat Eggman" trope. Maybe I'll write an AU about that someday.)
Anyway, at least she's got the potential to appear in future games courtesy of the true ending, so maybe they'll make some more changes to her dynamic with Eggman later on down the line. I dunno.
-Mike Pollock gives an excellent performance as Eggman (to the surprise of absolutely no one), but other than that... Eggman was just really out of focus in general? I think I saw someone saying that you could probably tweak the story to cut Eggman out of it entirely and not much would change, and I'm inclined to agree. Which is a shame- I was hoping he'd have more of an impact. Getting the seventh Chaos Emerald on Ouranos was nice, but felt like too little too late after he spent most of the game's cutscenes stuck in the same Cyberspace level. (His voice memos talk about seeing replicas of South Island, Westside Island, and even Angel Island in Cyberspace. Give us more locales, you cowards!)
Overall:
-It was pretty clear they ran out of budget after Chaos Island (and I know I'm not the first to say this, either).
-There was a lot of jank, and some questionable decisions in terms of both story and gameplay.
-But... I liked Sonic Frontiers! And I'm glad I get to say that, after the absolute rollercoaster that this entire marketing cycle was.
Anyway, I'm off to go listen to Undefeatable on loop for the next 24 hours. See y'all later!

Demons Unleashed ~ Origins of the Ink Demon Gaiden Pt.4 ~
[Advertise - Fumie Kumatani]
Sonic : Yo, Nights! What's with the new Get up?
Nights : Oh this? This is what I look like from now on. Yuji Naka had to give me a fresh new pair of clothes.
Sonic : What happened to your old pair of clothes?
Nights : I got rid of them. Nope, their in the clothes. Naotoa Ohsima had to give me some better clothing, technically I don't give two ducks about wearing clothes!
Sonic : You heard that on TV while you still can, you probably referred that to the movie Friday. So, what's with these newly clothes?
Nights : This? This is for the sequel that I'm participating in. So you're finally joining the olympics after Mario tells you decided to become someone is new to smash ain't it?
Sonic : That's right. I'm new to smash! Along with Snake from Metal Gear. You sure you don't want to join?
Nights : I'd love to join Smash, but I can't. I have to go meet with the writers. Hey, Reala! We need those new kids to make out for the missions!
Sonic : Not at least what I expected. Okay, look after sega made a storybook that I had defeat a genie, I'd still remember something about what happened during that incident back in 2003.
*flashback*
Sonic : The Shaula Gorgon witch that was sented, was a heartless from the real and original Shaula Gorgon, and Erazor sented a fake one to destroy the legacy! Good thing the Traitors army she created had turned to be another diversion set up by other villains. No wonder why she wasn't dead, but hiding tho.
*flashback ends*
Sonic : That explains a lot.
Tails : Hey, Sonic. Did you find any chao that disappeared from Blue Coast?
Sonic : Not much, Tails. If we are definitely closer to finding Eggman about releasing the demon Ifrit, why would the Chao be very edible for the Ifrit Gain Power?
Tails : That's what I thought. So the reason that Metal Sonic telling us the truth and to realize that we've been fooled by Eggman Nega. That's why the chao went missing from Blue Coast Zone. And, uhh, FYI, [quietly] He's right next to you! (Sonic turns and sees Metal Sonic)
Sonic : Metal Sonic! You alive again, I thought I defeated after you turned into a monster in a thunderstorm controlled by you! Remember that you turned into a titan and you rebelled Eggman for committing those crimes four years ago?
Metal Sonic (?) : Well, if you're so kind about that, of course Metal Sonic had turned into a titan and then became Neo Metal to take over the world as the Ultimate Overlord. Good thing that I had to reprogram while the robots put him on restrictions for betraying me.
Sonic : Wait a sec. I know that voice somewhere before.
Sonic & Tails : [together] Eggman?!
Metal Sonic (via Eggman) : Long time no see, Sonic! It's been awhile since our last fight with the Black Arms.
[Have a Nice Talk - Yoko Shimomura]
Sonic : What are you doing voicing Metal Sonic? I heard that you were the king in the Arabian Nights.
Metal Sonic (via Eggman) : That was just my alternate self. And you are correct about voicing Metal Sonic. I had to use this programming to hack into his brain in order to talk through. I'm trying to go into incognito to get away from Eggman Nega! Don't mind in that question.
Sonic : What happened to his voice.
Metal Sonic (via Eggman) : Well, umm, ever since he went into Neo Metal Mode after acquiring the emeralds, our company decided to get rid of our original voice actors and mine passed away, so I am Mike Pollock right at the beginning of the Black Arms Invasion.
Sonic : You mean Sonic X don't ya? We've been voiced by 4kids since Sonic X debuted on TV Tokyo in 2003. Why don't Metal Sonic talk anymore since all he can do is just go like this. [imitates as a robot] I AM METAL SONIC. I HAVE LOST MY VOICE AFTER RYAN DRUMMOND WAS FIRED FROM SEGA, THEREFORE, I MUST GO MAKE ROBOT NOISES BY NOW. [talks normally] Yeah, he couldn't just talk anymore. So, i'm gonna hang out with this programming of voicing Metal Sonic. I heard that Silver is going to be friendly for counceling. Back in the 06, he acted like the school bully and was very harsh, cold blooded. Not necessarily in order.
Tails : So what's the deal now, Eggman? What do you have us in common?
Sonic : Gotta little know something.
Eggman : There's a shocking truth about Eggman Nega from Blaze's world, you see that he is not from Blaze's world, he's from 200 years in the future to destroy our world! It turns out that Eggman Nega is an inter-dimensional criminal who escaped from prison after went into the past that took place during the Black Arms Invasion.
[Mystery of the Meteorite - Fumie Kumatani]
Sonic : Hold it. Are you saying that Eggman Nega is from 200 years in the future. That's the time of Silver's futuren that I truly remembered before we retconned the entire plot of Sonic 06!
Tails : Ah, yes. We remember. When you sent us to the future in Silver's time, we were there in a ruined city that a big fire monster with green eyes there and a recolored shadow was there. That was the first time we see a recolor that killed Sonic. That's right, he was the other son of Amaterasu.
Sonic : We only figured it out that the fire monster we encountered was it's brother?
Tails : Two brothers.
Sonic : Can't believe that someone would just go off and had to get with away with everything. Who could I trust a Death God somewhere? (thinking) Hmmm...while thinking about trusting a Death God, what would Grim the Hedgehog would do?
Tails : But I do know is, we just gonna get to the bottom of this mystery.
Lou : Mr. Sonic! I need your help!
Sonic : Hey there, cast girl. What's the rush?
Lou : Mr. Sonic, it's an emergency. We the Guardians from PSU have been attacked by a mysterious group called the Illuminus and the Endrum Collective, were only a facade to those guys! (holds Sonic's hands dearly) Please, in the addition I saw everything on the news, they say that our man Ethan is wanted for some kind of assassination attempt! It's bad and I know that's really bad. Please, tell me, do you know where Ethan wabers, we haven't seen him since the year 2006!
Sonic : Wait just that thought! I know where that guy from PSU is!
"meanwhile..."
Seto : I've been looking for you, Shotaro.
Shinigami : How many times do I have to keep telling you? The old Shotaro the Dokeshi you knew is gone, I am Shinigami, I am the ruler of the cosmos.
Seto : No you're not. You're still the same Shotaro I once knew before. Master Grim had you make it something important like the one person who says it all. Got it memorized?
Shinigami : You would've actually think that I was created a 1000 years ago all thanks to Shinra and his amazing influence! It helped to maintain public order from the threats of the witches.
Seto : You mean like this! Read this note! I wrote in Kanji characters to figure it out that why are the witches being targeted by you.
[translation : THE WITCHES ARE SCAPEGOATS!]
Seto : I finally knew that something is fishy going on in Real World Au. Now I understand what we know, Shotaro. You have no desire to become a God of Death, you only crave more power and annihilation. Your only lust is to fuel Shinra's influence that will easily destroy the Kasugatani. Master Grim knows that I am the one true Shinigami that i am willingly to join the council. Still being shady, Shotaro the Dokeshi?
Shinigami/Death : Oh, who am I kidding. MY name isn't shinigami, it's death, the man-made son of Shinra Kusakabe. I've been using this boy's body from the start, I knew that others would that the shinigami of Soul Eater does not exist. Now do you believe me? I've been waiting someone to tell the truth from the others! I see you wanted the title to become Shinigami, so what if I don't exist! It's true what they say, I pretended to become shinigami which is why I stole your title. If you really want it back, then I suggest you'll have a friendly reminder. I'm gonna knock this one out of the park. (coverts into Shotaro from B.Ichi) Now do you see me, Seto?
Seto : Just as I suspected, you are the kid who the Mabuki race with Alchemy from your bones!
Shotaro : I thought I was gonna go easy on ya.
Seto : If it wasn't for the author's, you would've get the chance of meeting one's fate, I still recall on that one.
Shotaro : Just as I expected. You'll get from what you deserve. If you want title back as Shinigami, then come and get me.
Seto : So do I! *sniffing* Hey, umm, not to mention about interrupting the fight, but do you smell gasoline?
Shotaro : Uhh, no. But why though?
[Eathan - Tai-Hey]
(it is revealed that the two are in a bed of flames)
Seto : What the he-? Who put all this fire here!? I bet it's one your tricks, Shotaro. You can't a make a fool out of me, now!
Shotaro : Hey, man! Look! I didn't do that! I don't know why the flames just appeared all of sudden! It's just my imagniation, I'm sure these are just special effects!
Seto : If these are special effects, then I suggested that who's walking through the flames like a boss.
Shotaro : Th-Th-That guy!
Seto : Is it Sephiroth, the one winged angel who sabotaged Shinra's world?
Shotaro : No man, he's edgier than Sephiroth! I heard that he's wanted for an attempt on Assasination!
Seto : Wait. Then who's wanted for assassination?
Ethan : I am! Or perhaps it was one of the villains that has mistaken me for the crimes of assassination. If this wouldn't been for Magashi, he would've expect to get the chance from you, not even the good guys can handle the feelings of what I did. I did nothing wrong, someone decided to make you believe in truth.
[a person appears walking through the flames appears to Ethan Waber]
Ethan Waber : Hey, Reaper. Remember me? Someone foolish enough to set me up for the assassination, and the Guardians have been attacked by the Illuminus. It's all thanks to that Karl F Howzer guy.
Seto : No, not you. You're that guy from the year of 2006, you helped us to defeat Dark Nebula. Ethan Waber! Why are you here dressed like that!? You would never do something like this! But just assure to remind you one thing, who's side are you on anyway?
Ethan Waber : You'll probably find out after you beat me in a duel. Seto the Deathless, I challenge you to a duel! I want to prove to you that the Guardians can be heroes or enemies! I am willing this for the sake of my father! So I guess it's up to you to face the consequences!
Seto : What!? No way!...Hmph! If you say so. If you really wanted a fight, then I'll give you a fight! I will accept your challenge!
Shotaro : Oh, I don't have time for this! [reverts back into Shinigami] I'm retreating! [flies of with his jet boosters]
Seto : Come on, bad boy! It's just you and me, let's settle this fight just to prove whether you are hero or traitor! So then…[prepares to fight against Ethan]…Here I go, Ethan Waber!

ranking every original song from the next star
because i can and also i've never listened to the full discography before! reminder that this is only really my opinion and that this is just for fun (not an actual serious critique lmao). also i only watched from season 5 onwards, so there may be a bit more bias to the newer seasons and songs. this will only be songs that were written specifically for the show, no songs that were released by participants after the show.
1. good as gone by melissa (charlie) storwick
C A T C H Y. it's no wonder she won with this song, with how good it is melodically and lyrically. sonically, her voice really suits it too and while it does have electronic elements to it, it's not so overpowering that it feels dated by any means. the dynamics of her vocals in the last chorus carry it higher and makes the song not feel energetic and fun. one of the best, if not THE best written and produced song on the next step
2. all i want by alex zaichkowski
you could flip a coin between this one and in my mind because they're pretty similar to me. at least musically, both really lean into the live instrument/band aspect and i eat it up. what puts this one above in my mind is slightly better writing in the chorus and a stronger bridge. i really like how this one paints a distinct image through the lyrics though, and the songwriting is definitely some of the strongest out of the songs on the show
3. in my mind by ryan hawken
the chorus of this one is so genuinely catchy. and i feel like he has the vocal chops to pull off the way it swells in the last pass of it. the verses are memorable, and really the only weak part of this song is the bridge. definitely something you could see an early 2010s boyband singing, and one of the better songs from season 5. one i find myself inclined to listen to again
4. my best friend's girl by diego gomes
does it have a ton of vocoder and voice modulation on it? yes. does it also hit insanely hard and is a party hit? also yes. i really like the simple guitar at the beginning that transitions into a more electronic sound. i also love the breakdown section/guitar solo. obviously, the lyrics are quite juvenile but they somehow work for this song? it fits and doesn't make me feel weird and in high school lmao. i also love the octave change in the last chorus. why this wasn't more of a hit? idk.
5. fever by victoria duffield
one where i'm like how the FUCK did she not win with this song. the way the chorus hits and while repetitive, isn't at all grating or annoying. i love the verses, they're so well written, and the second verse pre-chorus is genuinely one of the best parts of the song. it really set up where she was going to go as an artist tbh and i really love that. definitely a hit, and there's a reason it's probably the most popular song from the next star
6. breaking glass by kaleia simons-cook
another one where it genuinely flabbergasts me that she didn't win with this song. it fit pretty perfectly with what was popular around the time she was on the show, an edm banger, and her voice sounds so good. has top 40 hit written all over it, and i'm still a bit salty this song wasn't appreciated more
7. sparks are gonna fly by j.d. meeboer (rip)
this was the pop-punk/pop-rock song this show NEEDED. it was so refreshing to listen to, the live instruments sound great, and the breakdown is great. of course, the lyrics aren't amazing, but you can absolutely tell that there was a lot of thought put into them and that there was a story they wanted to tell using the imagery. it's catchy as hell, and definitely one i'll revisit and replay until my heart's content. my one complaint is that i wish it went a bit harder, but i'm sure live, it could be different (it is different).
8. into pieces by electric ave
the instrumental on this one is amazing, and the swagger the guys bring to the song is unmatched. it's truly been years since this song was released and i *still* remember the lyrics because that's how fucking catchy it is. instant brainworm. i love the breakdown too, and it just elevates the song going into the final chorus. everyone sounds good on the track and really, just a song you can absolutely bop to
9. we are the brave by rebel coast
such a unique song concept! the instrumental of this one might be one of the best the next step has ever done, with the excess of snares and dark sound. the vocals on this sound great, especially from kyle and curtis. i think the lyrics are pretty weak but this does have one of the better choruses out of all of the songs. replayability is high, and i have nothing more to say than this one is a bop
10. we just don't care by the season 6 top 6
a bit autotuned, yes, but never to the point of annoyance. i think the outro really sells it for me, it's just so catchy and everyone's voice is utilized well in this one. it's also not repetitive in the way now is, even though the chorus is similarly simple. the mixing is great and everyone has a moment to shine. i like the lyrics and sonically, the backing instrumentals provide just enough that it is easily one i revisit and listen to often.
11. turn it up by the season 4 top 6
are charlie, milly, april and parker's lines completely autotuned garbage? yes. but does it slay regardless? also yes. it's a certified bop, that i will always love dancing to. i think the lyrics are perfect for a dance track, and in general, i think it'll always bring good memories for me. so what if i'm a little nostalgic for this song? it's valid. it's catchy as hell.
12. better off anyway by brandon bizior
this song walked so the holy trinity of sparks are gonna fly, in my mind, and all i want could RUN. that pop-punk flair i really love is so apparent and there, and i cannot understate enough how much i love the instrumental. i didn't expect to like it this much even, but sonically it's so good. reminds me a lot of check yes, juliet by we the kings to be honest. what knocks it down here (still top 20 lmao) is just that i think the lyrics aren't as strong as the three songs i mentioned above, and there are other songs i like better. but definitely a replayable song and one that i was shocked to like so much that i want to revisit it!
13. see you again by amer dhaliwal
the chorus of this one is so catchy!!!! i really like how it's written too, and i think the melodies are really good. i would say the verses are kind of boring though, and they're cheesy as well. but amer sounds amazing singing the lyrics so does that cancel it out? to me it does. the high notes are killer and it's definitely one i can see revisiting. however, it does land here because i just like the other ones more, and they appeal more to me.
14. dreams by shania fillmore
classic tbh!!!! i love the instrumentation, and while the lyrics are very VERY cheesy, i find that shania's delivery makes them less so. she seems to really believe the message of the song lmao. it's also insanely catchy, and i applaud the decisiveness of wanting a country-pop song instead of something that might be more leaning into edm or straight pop.
15. front row by madi amyotte
i swear this song was featured somewhere and tbh even if it *wasn't*, it should've been. even though the writing is very very cheesy, it doesn't seem played into so much, like the artist genuinely believes that it's true. i also love the instrumentation and think the vocals are great. i genuinely think that this is one of the best songs, just for how catchy it is even upon my first listen. season 3 really had a great group!
16. up to us by jory zechner
wow season 7 really had some of the best production and songwriting in terms of melodies. i think the chorus carries this song but around it, there's p good lyrics and melodic tendencies. the one thing that i do dislike a lot is the spoken word bridge, but overall, the rest of the vocals are really solid. replayability factor is also high.
17. if i fall by wren burnett
i was shocked to find out how much i liked this one! i think the writing in the verses is really solid, and the chorus has a lot to it too. the instrumental is amazing and you can tell that wren has a great voice that doesn't need excess vocal modulation. i genuinely am going to revisit this one and it is definitely my favourite of the season 2 songs for sure. it's very early jojo and you know what?? not a bad thing at all.
18. the last word by briar gillis
so evanescence, so angsty. and genuinely i really enjoy it! i think that the verses have pretty good songwriting, but the pre-chorus is cheesy. the chorus could come in stronger, but her vocals overall are pretty good throughout and fit the song. i like the instrumental a lot too, and that she leaned into the live instrument thing. the belt before the last chorus is what i would want for the whole song going into the chorus.
19. it might be you by parker schmidt
okay so if we're talking on writing ALONE this one would be way down there with "the way i see you". but we're not, so i would just like to say that i really like the instrumental of this one and how catchy it is. yes there is a ton of vocoder on it, but it's a really really cute song otherwise and i think it's one of the ones with the most earwormy choruses. def a fave of mine, no matter what.
20. goodbye gravity by dante scott
i love the verses and pre-chorus of this song. the soft drop is also perfectly timed, and it's just a great dance song! it's so catchy that by the end i was singing along to the chorus, but it's also not dated. however, i can't put it in the top songs simply because the post-chorus is quite shallow and i really like other songs more
21. be your holiday by shon burnett
say what you want but this is a cute ass song. catchy for sure! while it is really shallow writing, and i really think the instrumental is grating with the brass, shon's voice is actually pretty good in this, and makes it up for it. aside from the spoken word pre-chorus of course. i would've liked this song to explore the more tropical sound in the way the bridge implies, as opposed to the brass. but like it's one that i always find myself aw-ing at
22. say u 2 by paige prescott
cheesy yes, but it's so catchy and easy to sing along to. i love her vocal on it and it sucks that during the live show, she also got sick similar to issy. but i like this song far more than issy's, just for how cute it is. it also has great background instrumentals and overall is just a bop!
23. i got a crush on you by isabelle stern
such a cute little song! i really like isabelle's vocals on this, and you can tell that she has such mature depth in her voice. again: electronic elements but it doesn't feel dated. the lyrics do make this feel a bit juvenile but at the same time, i think it works for her voice and she sings it well. i love the octave change too. definitely catchy, but it's not good enough to be pushed up into the upper echelon of songs.
24. lioness by kat moscone
the instrumental on this one really hits, and tbh saves it. outside of the verses, which come in really strong and are lyrically pretty alright, the chorus is weak and so is the bridge. i really dislike the rap bridge section, and while kat's vocals are good throughout, i just find myself drawn more to the backing track more than the melodies. it's catchy, but in a way that's definitely grating by the end of the song due to its repetitiveness
25. from the heart by amanda rowland
i wasn't expecting to like this one as much as i did! i think it works and fits perfectly with her voice, and i love the instrumental and how it builds throughout the song. it doesn't feel juvenile either, if a little bit cheesy in the lyrics. i think my one knock is that it builds so much that by the end, you can tell the vocal chops just are not there to hold it up.
26. caught up by grace johnston
i like the instrumental of this song and i absolutely love the chorus. they're both really catchy. however, i think the vocal delivery on this song is weak and really, the lyrics are pretty mediocre. it doesn't hit hard enough either. middle of the pack seems right about right for this song. i like the name drop too though.
27. without you here by tiana flegel
very hilary duff-esque. i really enjoy it, it's solid in terms of sound. and the songwriting is decent enough that it's not a bother to me! i wouldn't necessarily look for it to listen, but if it came on, i wouldn't be mad. kinda just a middle of the pack song
28. what r u doin 2 me by michaelah weekes
i don't love the chorus of this one, but the verses are really great lyrically. i think the instrumental is interesting too. but overall, there's nothing super special about this song. it just kinda feels like it's there.
29. shy by dunnery bond
again, it might just be that it's not my style, but i feel like this song sounds a bit like elevator music. it doesn't feel juvenile to me though, which is good. i think it's just cause i'm not drawn to this type of music, but overall it's really not that bad
30. gotta give a little extra by darren espanto
darren's vocals in this song are amazing, and that's genuinely the only thing that saves this one lmao. the verses are bloated with unnecessary lyrics, and the chorus is annoyingly repetitive. there's nothing even interesting going on in the instrumental. darren's runs sound great though, and you can tell he's probably the most talented vocalist (on vocal talent alone) out of all of the top 6's in the show. i wish they would've given him a better song though, so all of that could shine.
31. so hepburn by ryland clark
meh. that's really all i can say about this song. i think it's catchy enough, but i also don't find myself dancing along like with the others. it has this guitar lick that just goes on forever and never gives up, and it's quite annoying. the verses are also quite bloated with lyrics. i don't find that there's anything spectacular about this song, although i think that the concept is interesting! the songwriting also isn't great though, so it falls flat.
32. now by the season 5 top 6
a pretty shallow pop song tbh. i find the chorus a bit grating with it's repetitiveness, but i like the post-chorus. the verses are not that well written either though, and the overall mixing of their voices together wasn't done very well. definitely the weakest of the top 6 group songs, by far.
33. more by issy dahl
i could only find a live version of this, and she's very visibly sick in it tbh. chorus hits but the verses are super boring. kinda just meh. i wish there was a better version of it online because she really does kill the chorus. hard to judge because of the vocal performance.
34. solitude of sunday by darrelyne bickel
cheesy writing and boring instrumentals, really nothing i like in it. i think the vocals are really lacking too. just a boring song that has not much going for it, and isn't memorable overall in terms of the show. i won't be revisiting it. it's alright though i guess. mid.
35. insane (thru with you) by mimoza duot
ugh with mimoza's voice they could have done SO SO much more!!!! instead we get an electronic and vocally modulated song, with shallow lyrics. it also completely loses me on the catchiness factor, really does sound like something from an early 2000s movie that plays during the shopping montage. i wish we had more from her cause her vocals through all the modulation sound deep and great but...
36. everyday crazy by christina leclair
i really dislike the lyrics to this song. they feel really cheesy and they remind me of a knock-off of wonderful crazy by katelyn tarver. the backing instrumental IS good, but that's about all that is with this song. i think the vocals are alright, but it's really nothing special and i don't enjoy it in the same way i enjoy the others.
37. spotlight by april llave
it's so similar sonically to breaking glass, but i think the writing is worse, and there's an overuse of woahs and ahs in the verses. the pre-chorus really does hit, but the chorus is boring as hell with the same words repeated over and over again. the bridge is pretty bad as well. the edm backing music is interesting though, and that's probably what keeps it here and not somewhere lower. cause it is pretty catchy.
38. you better watch out for me by alicia moffet
this one is really just mid for me tbh. like i genuinely don't know why people liked it so much. i liked the message and it was a cute song, but the production is really lacking anything interesting and the lyrics aren't great either. of course, i like it better than many of the other songs but really, there's nothing special with it.
39. more perfect than a doll by lizz kellermann
the audio for this one was really bad, but i don't think that changes how bad the songwriting is either. i can see where she's coming from with this song, trying to be relateable, but at the same time, it just feels really fake. i like the vocals, but there's just not much else that draws me to this song.
40. the way i see you by brooklyn roebuck
oh wow, listening back to this one really makes you realize how HIGH SCHOOL it is. it's really not at all that catchy either. maybe it's just because it's very country and i don't love that genre, but in comparison to the other country songs on this list, it's definitely the weakest.
41. winners by jaden macphee
it might just not be my style, but i find this song really just boring and not at all catchy. the verses are quite bloated with lyrics in comparison to the chorus, which only has a few. the edm drops just aren't appealing here to me, and there's so much more they could have done with jaden's voice i feel like. he kills it on his runs, but unfortunately the rest of the song is just repetitive and annoying to listen to .
42. what we need is love by rayandra hudson
maybe it's just because of the sound quality but i really just did not like listening to this song. aside from the sound quality, rayandra sounds pretty pitchy. and it's far too reminiscent of a song like hey there delilah without the charm. it's definitely not the worst song, but not something i'd ever reach for.
43. stuck in my world by maranda thomas
i don't like the repetitiveness of the chorus nor the random people shouting things throughout the song. it's very early 2000s though, reminds me of outrageous by britney spears. i don't like that song either though, so maybe it's just the style. not one i'll be revisiting
44. do it by nissita francis
it's so cheesy and juvenile and i am cringing about it, but trying to keep in mind she was really young when she sang this. i mean it is kind of catchy, in a bad way, with just the chorus. the verses aren't really engaging and i feel like she sounds very autotuned. i really don't like the background instrumental claps either. the video is cute though! and her vocals are also good, just not her natural vocals, and you can tell.
45. if you were mine by milly benzu
the catchiest part is the "if you were mine"s and even that is really just a bright spot in a sea of edm that is bad and uncatchy. the songwriting is really juvenile and tries to have so many unnecessary drops and vocal modulation sections. i really would've just loved a song with milly's singing on it cause i know it was good, not this bs.
46. one more first chance by brock zanrosso
it's so early 2000s and so just boring. i imagine this song as a glob of wet paper mache tbh. it's just so unappealing to me, and maybe i just don't like the style, but there's something that distinctly turns me off from it. i really couldn't listen to all of it, i think the lyrics are cheesy and sonically it isn't amazing either.
47. gonna make you dance by alyssa reid
this was NOT what i was expecting from alyssa reid's debut song. it's so latin flair for no reason? there's also a really odd vocoder on her voice that's entirely unnecessary. i really question what they were going for with this song, because it's not really all that catchy either.

little bit cold
Thirteenth Doctor x reader
Day two of my December/festivity oneshots (even though it's the early morning of day three.) You practically freeze on a snow planet.
Tumblr media
A wintery wonderland full of nature that practically eminated magic - although it definitely wasn't magic, as the Doctor had been so enthused to point out - seemed like a wonderous idea. Personally, you had planned on initiating a snowball fight, your first target being Ryan. Yaz was too precise to go for first, Graham would be grumpy, and the Doctor had frightful amounts of stamina. So Ryan it was, you had thought, stepping out into the snow with hands shoved deeply in pockets. Even with a scarf wrapped around your neck, you had still felt the air nip at your skin, unable at the time to resist constantly blowing out simply to watch the condensation that rised.
Now, though, now you were particularly spiteful towards the cold, wrists bound very tightly, the rope cutting off circulation you didn't seem to have regardless of the weather. The Doctor's back was facing yours, a pole between the both of you. Where the others had managed to get off to, you had no idea, but the sudden lack of a coat was diverting your attention to the unreasonable amount of shivering you seemed unable to cease. Your lips felt numb and you had long since given up on attempting to flex your fingers, simply pressing them against your form in the hopes of warmth.
"I will get us out of here," the Doctor said. Her tone was that of hopeful panic. Nothing unusual there, though. "I just need- I just need to think."
You were staying silent, bringing your knees closer to perhaps conserve some kind of heat. If you weren't freezing beyond compare, you'd have marvelled at the drops of snow that rested on your eyelashes, or the large and grand standing trees that almost seemed to glow whenever hit by light, or the way the landscape stretched across impossible distances. But no, this wasn't exactly a winter wonderland, because why would it have ever been?
"You okay back there?"
You felt the Doctor shift slightly. "'M go-good."
In an unsprising twist of fate, Yaz had made a mad dash over to the both of you barely a moment later, pulling out the Doctor's sonic in a much welcomed rescue. Despite slumping back in relief, you still found it in yourself to wildly envy the fact that the three others were still in coats.
It didn't matter much, however, when the Doctor helped you up, pulling you agonisingly close as she clutched your hands. Vanilla, that's what you could smell, and maybe something faintly mechanical. Her hands soon regained the feeling back in yours, too. Although still twitching, you managed, very gleefully, to feel the tightness and the softness at which the Doctor was clutching onto you. "Nice hot chocolate, that's what you need," she said. She seemed to have a much paler complextion than usual, though she wasn't shivering at all. Of course she wasn't.
You huddled into the coat Ryan had passed to you with an appreciative smile, snuggling into the sudden and stark warmth.
Keeping your chin ducked, shoulders hunched in, they huddled you back towards the direction of the TARDIS, a certain relief emminating in your stomach once you reached the top of a slope. Seeing that shade of blue was always appreciated.
"What about the locals, Doc?" Graham asked.
You wondered why you hadn't even thought of that.
"Might have been trespassing just a tiny bit."
"Doctor!" Yaz chastised.
Ryan was next with, "You should probably check that before we step onto a random planet next time."
The Doctor kept a tight grip on your arm, the other hand already flailing. "I did check. Must have gotten the dates wrong."
You managed a smile. "N-not much concept of ti-time for a time lord," you added quietly.
"Oi, you, you're supposed to be conserving heat."
"True though, Doc," Graham said.
Upon arriving into the TARDIS, there was still an occuring discussion about the necessity to double check the planet when going on what was supposed to be a festive day out. You attempted to give Ryan's coat back, but the Doctor was pushing you through the corridors before you could even get it off, her hand flicking the hood over your head. You managed a small laugh, now unable to see, perfectly content as she placed - manhandled - you into a chair. The sound of the sonic filled your ears with another relaxing warmth, the knot in your stomach easing up.
"Very blue wrists. Think I have some cream for that, but the TARDIS should warm you up nicely."
Clutching onto the sleeves of the coat, you pushed the hood away from your eyes and smiled up at her. "Thanks for the trip," you said, definitely sounding sheepish.
The Doctor scoffed, looking back at you with an arched eyebrow as she managed to keep hold of five mugs.
"No, no, I mean, it was fun before all of that. And nothing bad really happened," you explained, wiping off any remnants of ice off of your face. "Just a little bit cold."
"I'm just lucky you enjoy chucking snowballs so much," the Doctor said, moving a mug under a machine you had never quite worked out before. The scent of cocoa filled the heat dominated air, though, drawing yet another smile onto your face. "Got tied up, but still you look like you're just enjoying the festivity of it." Whipped cream landed on top, and you were handed the mug with the Doctor scrunching her face to go with it. "Proper odd, that, Y/N."
With a grin this time, the Doctor shoved the hood back over your eyes, only a hum of protest coming from your lips as you licked the cream off of your mouth. You were almost bubbling with the same warmth, the wintery wonderland buzz from earlier, if that could even been said, coming back tenfold.

Interview with Electronic Audio Experiments
Righteous Ryan: When did you decide to become a builder and what motivated you to do so?
Electronic Audio Experiments: Even before I taught myself how to play the guitar I was always interested in what makes instruments work, so naturally I was a pedal nerd as soon as I learned what they were. After studying electronics for fun on the side (took a couple extra courses during undergrad and then read books on my own) it became a natural progression of my interests to start tinkering with my own. I did a few tagboard clone builds before I realized I wanted to have more control over the design process. And that's still my primary motivation: I love the design process with all of its challenges and room for artistic decisions.
EAE as a company formally started in approximately winter/spring of 2015. In February of that year, Boston was slammed over 5 feet of snow. I spent a lot of time in my crummy basement apartment eating frozen pizzas and breadboarding what would eventually become the Longsword V1. I used it on a couple records I was a part of (Perfect Moments by Tiny Fractures and the Native Wildlife s/t - both on bandcamp, for the curious) and that generated enough interest to do a release that summer. The rest has been a whirlwind!
RR: What motivates you to create original circuits?
EAE: Short answer - it's really satisfying to me, basically my favorite pastime.
Longer answer - I love the challenge of making something from scratch that hopefully lets my personality come through. I should qualify; I am not reinventing any wheels here. Designing "from scratch" is like building something out of legos. You can't really design new pieces (which leads some of the more cynical folks out there to say there's nothing new under the sun) but there are lots of building blocks and lots of ways to arrange them. The artistic merit is in the details, and the fun is in the thrill of the chase. It's an obsessive process but endlessly gratifying.
RR: Are you currently working on anything new?
EAE: Oh god, too many things. Here's a sampling:
Halberd - this is a drive which started as the preamp block of Sending, but heavily mutated into its own thing. It features pronounced treble attack/clarity, stupidly high output, and a strong second harmonic response. Been "finalizing" it for a while but I'm trying my damnedest to release it this summer. (If you want to hear a rough demo of an earlier iteration, check this video out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpGgzl3lOgs)
Sending V2 - I'm trying to add some features while I do an SMD conversion - mostly modulation and CV control over delay time. Currently on the back burner while I get the Halberd sorted out.
Hypersleep - this is my weird multi-tap chorus/vibrato/reverb-ish thing (nb: this is also in Ian's video linked above). It's also on the back burner while I get the Halberd sorted out. I really want to put it to production but it depends fully on whether I can source enough MN3011 BBDs to make it happen. If I can get enough to build 50 I'll do a limited run, but I'd really prefer to do 100 if at all possible... so we shall see what happens.
Super secret collab with Electrofoods Pedals - stay tuned, I am very excited
Surveyor - IVP side of the Dude Incredible, will be released later this year. It's ready to rock.
Various contract designs - Caroline Somersault (just wrapped up), Caroline Megabyte (working on the second round of prototypes), Dunable Eidolon (close to done, just needs some code fixes), another 2 or 3 projects all TBA.
RR: What is your design process like?
EAE: Whenever I design something new I have to answer two questions. 1) does it exist already? and 2) does it address a need or want in my own sonic pursuits? For instance, drive pedals will reflect my tone in whatever band I'm currently in. If it's already been done I can go buy it. If it hasn't been done then the work can begin.
If the design is simple or contains simple building blocks I often go straight to the circuit board layout and if necessary, debug from there. I can often turn a project around pretty quick if that's the case. If I'm not sure whether or not a building block will work, I can try simulating or breadboarding. Circuit simulation is extremely powerful but requires interpretation of the results, which also sometimes differ from reality. Breadboarding is great for audible characterization of a new idea, but the added parasitic capacitances can dramatically alter the frequency response of a circuit - especially a high gain drive or something with lots of complex filters. So there's usually a loop of steps where I move between a breadboard, circuit simulations, and a working prototype until everything works out. Sometimes I just have to resort to plain old math to get what I want.
The first pass of design is a go/no-go check. Does it work? Once it does, I refine it until it can produce sounds I truly like. This is also the step where I do the most work to address noise, oscillation, unwanted artifacts, etc. The final step is to identify which controls I want to keep, and then I determine the tapers/ranges of those controls.
Once there's a working prototype I do extensive beta testing with friends, local musicians and engineers, etc. When testing at home I can lose sight of how good (or not good) a prototype sounds. So a sanity check helps! Once this feedback is incorporated into the process we can go to production. At that point we get the artwork done and start working with our local SMD shop to get boards going.
RR: What's your setup (guitar, amps, pedalboard)?
EAE: I've been awful about maintaining a static setup. I realized that when you're not in a band you can just buy whatever sounds good instead of worrying about serving a song or particular mix. I have a wide assortment of guitars and amps that I use to test pedals during the R&D phase but listing those won't really tell you a coherent story. BUT I started a new band and we're tracking a record (we just did guitars + drums at GodCity) so I can tell you all about the gear I used for that. It's a post-metal sort of outfit so there are lots of heavy sounds but lots of unique mid-gain tones as well. This is also a great chance to plug some work by my friends...
Guitars - Travis Bean TB1000S, which is essentially vintage correct after some restoration work at Electrical Guitar Company (new bridge + pickups). Sounds like a piano. A very angry piano.
My very heavily modified Classic Player Jazzmaster with EGC JM500 pickups and a Robot Graves neck. It can do pristine, chimey cleans or a savage clang depending how much gain you use.
Amps - Traynor YBA1 MKII - Basically a marshall-ish amp with really big transformers. I modded the preamp to roughly superlead specs, but it's got way more bandwidth than a typical marshall.
Traynor YBA3 - not mine, lives at GodCity. Was extensively modified by my friend Scot from SnK pedals, who is also a gifted amp tech. It's loud and clean with a sound that's almost like an ampeg.
For cabs we mostly used an emperor 6x12 with an assortment of speakers. The mic was placed on a Texas Heat.
For my own use I have a pair of Joe's TL806 cabs (Thiele 1x12 design) with EVM12Ls.
Pedals - Halberd proto - great for slamming tube amps!
Electrofoods Oprichniki - the highest gain big muff variant around. I don't even know if it should be called a muff variant because of how twisted and souped up the circuit is. It is an absolute beast.
Dr. Scientist Frazz Dazzler - another extraordinarily high gain fuzz which sounds like absolutely nothing I've ever heard. It's a nice contrast to the more scooped flavor of the Oprich.
SnK VHD - a high gain distortion, used extensively for lead parts especially. Super tight and clear.
Sending V1-ish prototype - also has a tone control. It works ok I guess. Still very much a work in progress!
Lastgasp Misty Cave - weird drone-y reverb/flange thing? Hard to describe. Sounds heavenly.
Hypersleep proto - for room-ish reverb
Red Panda Tensor - Used for a particularly glitchy "solo"
Dirge Slowly Melting - I saw the end of the world, and it was terrifying
Lots of other stuff - I forgot!
Other - Yamaha FX500. The ultimate digital pad machine.
Roland RE-501 Chorus Echo - my drummer owns this, holy hell it is magic
My modular synth - a whole goddamn mess of its own

Sleep

Thirteenth Doctor & Reader (Platonic)
The Fam & Reader (Platonic)
Part of Escape and Sick and Home
The other people and alien on the TARDIS realize you don't have a set sleep schedule.
~
You had leaned up against the crystal pillar, your eyes half open when you felt hands gently grab your upper arms. "You okay?"
It was Graham's voice, ever the grandfather type. You smiled softly and held your left hand up, giving him a thumbs up and a "mhm" as a confirmation.
"Hey, uh, Doc? The Kiddo's not doing well." Graham called to The Doctor causing you to groan.
"I'm perfectly fine. Just tired." You said, pulling your eyes fully open and you spot that Yaz and Ryan had turned to look at you. The Doctor was heading full speed to you and Graham.
"Guys I'm okay." You said, and let Graham and The Doctor shift you around.
The Doctor's sonic screwdriver was whirring in your face and your face scrunched up in discomfort from the noise. The Time Lord whispered a sorry as she scanned your body. "Huh, it just says sleep deprivation, a little bit of dehydration, and your a little bit hungry."
"Trying to beat your all-nighter score?" Ryan asked and you laughed softly.
"Nah, just not good at sleeping." You replied, turning to look over at him.
As Yaz and Ryan took in your face, their faces scrunched up in a wince and you realized you must've looked like you hadn't slept or at least like you've been hit my a metaphorical car.
"Did the TARDIS forget to start your night time process last night?" The Doctor asked, prompting the TARDIS to groan and rumble at the question.
The Doctor quickly pressed a hand against the console, a silent apology to the machine.
"No, she didn't. I just couldn't sleep, that's all." You were quick to defend the ship against her owner, even if you were half asleep.
The TARDIS let out what you interpreted as a happy groan and you smiled. The Doctor laughed softly. "She's spoiling the four of you, I know it."
"I hope she is. I still cant believe she lost my blanket." You grumbled.
The group around you laughed and The Doctor rested her hands on her hips. "I'm ordering a down day."
All of you groaned, and you yawned in the middle of your groan that caused The Doctor to whip her head around to look at you. "Specifically for you. The rest of us can stop in Sheffield, let the rest of them pick up some things from home and let you sleep."
You let out a slight groan and leaned your head back on the crystal pillar behind you. "We're gonna land and you four are gonna end up saving Earth again without me."
The Doctor shook her head. "We promise to not end up saving Earth without you."
You lifted your head, sending her a look. "I have the strange feeling that that promise is going to end up broken."
The Doctor gave you a look, one you'd only see when a parent was getting ready to scold their child. You laughed softly. "Sorry, Sorry. I'm just tired."
"Oh that's going to be your excuse for everything today, isn't it?"
"Yep, get used to it."
"Not if I get you to go to sleep."
"I'm okay."
"No you are not, c'mon kiddo, lets get you to your room."

Hey, Ryan. A new game came out just recently in a franchise I have played since childhood. I am more familiar with this series than any other; I have played the games countless times. I recently started a YouTube game analysis channel. I found this game really lacking in a lot of story-related, non-gameplay areas. The internet is in blind love with every aspect of it, though. I'm a smaller channel and afraid to publish the wrong take, but I strongly feel I have valid criticism. What should I do?
Well, you're talking to the guy who published two videos talking about how he didn't exactly love Sonic Mania, at a time where Sonic Mania was the highest rated Sonic game since 1994.
If you have something to say, say it. It's entertainment criticism. Ultimately it doesn't "matter." I mean, it matters to you, it matters to us, it matters, but it's not like you're advocating genocide. Nobody is going to die or experience physical pain. If you have these thoughts and you feel like you want to express them, do it.
But again, maybe it would help to unpack my perspective.
There are many reasons I opened this blog, but what really started things off was me making fun of people who would leave me angry comments on my Sonic 2006 video. People who would defend the game, people who didn't watch the video and left comments thinking I was making fun of Sonic 1, or the Sonic franchise in general. They would come to my channel, to my video, and leave me nasty comments, so I used this blog as an outlet to make "get a load of this guy" style jabs without it turning in to a big flamewar in the comments section.
I also sometimes think of myself as the kind of guy who takes his critics head on, when it makes sense. I remember back in the day being at SFGHQ and leaving critical comments on games posted for SAGE, and usually when the creator would come to me upset with what I had to say, we'd talk it out and I'd explain my reasoning. And those types of conversations went on to influence the way I talk about games now.
The one constant, across my entire life, from teenager now to adult, is explaining myself. Growing up, one of the things that gave me anxiety as a kid was worrying that people thought I was lying. This is presumably where my tendency to over-explain myself came from, and is the entire source of why I can write pages and pages and pages here on this blog now. I've gotten pretty good at unpacking my thoughts and laying those ideas bare.
I have also never gotten in much trouble for my opinions, at least so far. Every now and then I get an ask here on this blog and I get scared, because you hear all these stories about the angry internet mob descending on a single person and ruining their lives. And, either because this blog is small enough that it never catches people's attention, or because I go out of my way to tread lightly and respectfully, I generally don't get dog-piled by an angry mob.
But I am also a white guy, and have the undeserved immunity that comes with that, I guess.
Regardless, if it was me, and I was in your position, I would just do it. Make your criticisms respectfully, fully explain your reasoning, and everything will be fine. If you're afraid of people getting mad at you, just don't make them mad. Sounds reasonable enough, doesn't it? Imagine you're giving bad news to a loved one and you're trying to let them down easy while still getting the point across.
The one piece of legitimate advice I'd like to impart is to avoid dealing in absolutes. The fastest way to make someone angry is to take a stance of authority. It's my Sonic 2006 video, right? I got a lot of angry comments because it's called "Sonic the Hedgehog is a bad game." That's not an opinion, it's a statement of fact. You can soften the edges of that up a lot by coming at it from the perspective of, "this is just what I think and it's only my opinion." People will be a lot less inclined to tear your head off if you remind them that you're just one little guy in an ocean of other voices.
But that's also a double-edged sword. That Sonic 2006 video of mine is one of the top three most watched videos on my channel because it's pitched as a toxic absolute. It all depends on what kind of attention you're looking for. (And note, that was a decade ago, so this is only something I've come to understand better after that video went live)
I still say you should do it.
